- 0:56A lot of thunderbolts out there in the world, guys, by the way.
- 0:59Looking up all the movies named Thunderbolt, going back to like 1929.
- 1:03Apparently Ryan Reynolds is gonna do a Thunderbolt and Lightfoot reboot.
- 1:07We'll see if that actually happens.
- 1:08That's not the one we were supposed to watch.
- 1:10Yeah,
- 1:13no, that is not the one we were supposed to watch.
- 1:15No, no, no, no.
- 1:16Darn.
- 1:17We watched the 1995 Thunderbolt Starr, Jackie Chan.
- 1:20I'm reviewing the wrong movie.
- 1:22Good luck finding it somewhere.
- 1:23How long have we been putting this movie off?
- 1:25Uh, two years, three years, maybe?
- 1:27Yeah, like a little while.
- 1:27Yeah.
- 1:28It's been a long time.
- 1:29I am so excited for this review.
- 1:31Did it live up to the hype?
- 1:32We'll find out.

- 1:52Sportscast.
- 1:53Yeah, motorboat.
- 1:57How's your guys' motor boating going.
- 1:58See Eric?
- 1:59That's what the new F1 segment should be called.
- 2:01Motorboat.
- 2:02Yeah.
- 2:02Yeah.
- 2:03F1 Motorboat.
- 2:04You got a motorboat?
- 2:05'cause I want an F1.
- 2:07Oh.
- 2:08Given all the rain races.
- 2:09Oh man, that's good.
- 2:11It's better than two girls.
- 2:12One F1.
- 2:12Yeah.
- 2:14Does this movie review require some drinking to go with it
- 2:18or can we go into it sober?
- 2:19I'm always down for a drinking.
- 2:21I'm recovering from a cold, so I am going to skip an alcoholic
- 2:24beverage, but I encourage everyone else to drink on my behalf.
- 2:27Ah, out of solidarity.
- 2:28I'm gonna drink twice as much.
- 2:29No.
- 2:30Yay.
- 2:31But, uh, you guys drinking anything on your end?
- 2:33I am enjoying it.
- 2:34Izzy, not to be confused with Izzy.
- 2:37Oh, you can't see it?
- 2:37'cause of my special virtual background, but yes, this is
- 2:39one of my favorites over here.
- 2:41These fancy fruit water things?
- 2:42Yes.
- 2:43We've had this before.
- 2:44I'm enjoying a nice, refreshing glass of moss.
- 2:47Apple juice.
- 2:48Ooh, what are you three?
- 2:51Yes, I have a 2-year-old and a 4-year-old.
- 2:54Yes.
- 2:55My house is well stocked with juice.
- 2:58Oh look, he's got the little sippy straw and everything.
- 3:00Oh, I don't hate.
- 3:02Oh, never, never.
- 3:03I'm jealous.
- 3:03I'm whimsical.
- 3:04How about you, Tanya?
- 3:04What you drinking currently?
- 3:05Nothing.
- 3:06Oh, she's drinking in the goodness of this film.
- 3:10That's what she's drinking in Steve.
- 3:12Did she actually watch it?
- 3:13Tanya, did you watch it?
- 3:15I did.
- 3:15Wow.
- 3:16Did you watch all of it?
- 3:18So I had actually, when I brought this movie up.
- 3:21First time I had started to watch it.
- 3:24Oh boy.
- 3:24But I had stopped all the way up through the container home scene.
- 3:28I had seen all that actually already.
- 3:30Oh, okay.
- 3:32Wow.
- 3:33And you stopped because you had already spent or that that that's,
- 3:36no, I don't remember why I stopped.
- 3:38It was like watching it off YouTube or whatever.
- 3:39A couple years ago.
- 3:40You think I know why you stopped.
- 3:45We all know why you stopped.
- 3:46Get stop, get a nice little warm bath going.
- 3:49Couple candles.
- 3:49She needed like a three year break.
- 3:53It popped up.
- 3:53You must pay for YouTube premium to finish watching this movie.
- 3:57And she said, Nope.
- 3:59Delete.
- 4:00Delete.
- 4:01So is this everybody else's first time watching this?
- 4:04Yes, I've seen a lot of Jackie Chan movies and I have never seen this one.
- 4:08I didn't know who Jackie Chan was.
- 4:12Never heard of them.
- 4:12This is my first foray.
- 4:14Who is she?
- 4:15Who is she?
- 4:15Was she the reporter?
- 4:16Jackie Chan.
- 4:16Jackie Stewart.
- 4:17I got 'em all mixed up.
- 4:20Nice.
- 4:20Well, yes, from writer director Gordon Chan.
- 4:23No relation.
- 4:24Who's he?
- 4:24Steve.
- 4:25Oh, well I'm glad you asked.
- 4:2630 plus credits.
- 4:27You might know him from 18 Golden Destroyers.
- 4:30Nope.
- 4:30Nope, nope.
- 4:31How about the Yuppie Fantasia?
- 4:33Nope.
- 4:33Nah.
- 4:34Fight back to school.
- 4:36Half started Grande Dangerfield.
- 4:39I get no respect.
- 4:40You wanna catch these hands?
- 4:41Inspector Pink Dragon.
- 4:43That sounds like fun.
- 4:44That sounds like a different kind of movie that we probably
- 4:47don't wanna review on this show.
- 4:49Yeah.
- 4:49Followed by King of Beggars, also like eh, could go either way, but then okay guys.
- 4:55Fist of legend.
- 4:56You know the Jet Lee Classic?
- 4:57Oh, okay.
- 4:58Yeah, yeah, yeah.
- 4:59This Armageddon?
- 5:00No, not that one.
- 5:01Oh.
- 5:02Came out around the same time.
- 5:03Oddly enough.
- 5:04Armageddon, beast Cop.
- 5:05Sounds interesting.
- 5:06Cat and Mouse.
- 5:07The Medallion.
- 5:08Hey, there we go.
- 5:09There's our Jackie Chan there.
- 5:10He is the King of Fighters.
- 5:11The uh, video game adaptation one, and then a movie called the Four.
- 5:16The four two.
- 5:17The four three.
- 5:19These are the title seven.
- 5:20Yeah, six, seven.
- 5:23But they stopped him just before the four.
- 5:25Four, which is unfortunate.
- 5:27Wow.
- 5:27It's a great time.
- 5:28Signature God of war.
- 5:29No, not that one.
- 5:30Tempting Hearts, faces in the crowd.
- 5:32And he currently has two movies in development.
- 5:34Oh wow.
- 5:35Getting that work.
- 5:36Pretty healthy career.
- 5:37Yeah.
- 5:38Speaking of healthy career, ho ho ho.
- 5:40Jacqueline Onassis Chan as a no good old Jackie Chan.
- 5:44I was gonna say, is that his middle name for real?
- 5:46No, I, I forget what his real name is, but you know it, it's Chinese.
- 5:50Let's be real.
- 5:51Jackie Chan's.
- 5:52Real name is Chen Kung Sing.
- 5:55Okay.
- 5:55Kong Chinese name.
- 5:56Yeah.
- 5:57His name's Kong, right?
- 5:58Yeah.
- 5:58Yeah.
- 5:58'cause it's backwards.
- 5:59Chan is the family name, so yeah.
- 6:02Oh yeah.
- 6:02So yeah.
- 6:02So Kong sang.
- 6:04Yeah, he's, he's like a, like a giant singing gorilla.
- 6:06I love it.
- 6:06Yeah.
- 6:07No wonder we love him.
- 6:08Yeah.
- 6:09Uh, he stars as Chan Foto.
- 6:11I don't know.
- 6:12Chan Chan, I think he goes by in this or no, Fae.
- 6:15They call him Fae.
- 6:15That's right.
- 6:16Uh, no.
- 6:16Alfred.
- 6:17Yes.
- 6:17Tanya's, right.
- 6:18Alfred in the movie is his name.
- 6:20If you watch the English version, he's Jackie Chan in all of my notes.
- 6:23So, or just the great jc.
- 6:25There you go.
- 6:26The only JC Willow in this house.
- 6:27That's right.
- 6:28150 plus credits.
- 6:30He's been doing it since the sixties.
- 6:31Guys, uh, you know, he was an Enter the Dragon briefly, but he really
- 6:35got into his own with movies like The Drunken Master, battle Creek Brawl,
- 6:38Cannonball Run Police Stories Super Cop Series, rumble in the Bronx.
- 6:42This Jackie Chan's First strike, the Rush Hour series.
- 6:45Shanghai Noon, Shanghai Nights.
- 6:47The Tuxedo, the Medallion, the Karate Kid, Kung Fu Panda, the Foreigner.
- 6:51And guys, he has six movies currently in production 'cause he's Jackie.
- 6:55Jan. Yeah.
- 6:56By the way, if everybody out there has not watched The Foreigner,
- 6:59please go watch The Foreigner.
- 7:01It's so good.
- 7:02Pierce Brosnan plays an excellent, just gross villain.
- 7:06Jackie Chan plays a great old man.
- 7:08Yeah, excellent.
- 7:09And I believe Jackie Chan was also the, uh, first MTV Lifetime Achievement
- 7:13Award winner, uh, back in the nineties.
- 7:15Nice.
- 7:16Awesome.
- 7:16RRIP to MTV apparently.
- 7:18Yeah, right.
- 7:19They lost ridiculousness and were closed three months later.
- 7:21Weird.
- 7:23Uh, but also starring In this movie we have Anita Yin as Amy Yip.
- 7:27Who's she?
- 7:27Steve.
- 7:28Well, I'm glad you asked.
- 7:2970 plus credits.
- 7:30You might know her from Tom, Dick and Harry.
- 7:32I got you babe.
- 7:34The wrath of silence.
- 7:35This.
- 7:36The Golden Girls?
- 7:37No, not that one.
- 7:38He comes from Planet K 29.
- 7:40Episodes of All Men Are Brothers.
- 7:42The Death Day Party.
- 7:44The Gold Finger again.
- 7:45No, not that one Gold Finger.
- 7:48And coming Soon, more episodes of All Men Are Brothers and only Live twice
- 7:52that, assuming it's the James Bond thing.
- 7:54Yeah.
- 7:54She looks super familiar though, like, I mean obviously she has more
- 7:57credits than what you mentioned.
- 7:58Was she in other Jackie Chan films?
- 8:00Did she play any other roles there?
- 8:02Because as soon as I saw her, I was like, you were in some other movie.
- 8:05I've seen Eric, are you baiting me to say something racist because she looks
- 8:09like every other woman in this movie.
- 8:10No, she looked very familiar.
- 8:12She looks like the two sisters.
- 8:15We'll get to that later.
- 8:16I did have her Her a little confused with one of the sisters, I'm not gonna lie.
- 8:19Oh yeah, yeah, totally.
- 8:20It was when she said, I'm gonna take care of the sisters.
- 8:23I'm like, wait, you are one of them.
- 8:25Shoot.
- 8:26It was an IT man.
- 8:27Wait, Tanya, did you say she was an IT man?
- 8:29She was an IT man.
- 8:30The final fight.
- 8:31There it is.
- 8:32Oh, there it is.
- 8:33Okay, Don.
- 8:33End.
- 8:33All right.
- 8:34There it is.
- 8:35I knew it.
- 8:35Do it.
- 8:36I've seen all those.
- 8:37They're fantastic.
- 8:37Well, also starring in this movie we have Michael Wong as Steve Cannon.
- 8:42Who's he?
- 8:42Steve.
- 8:43Oh, it's a great goddamn name.
- 8:44120 plus credits though, babe.
- 8:46Did he look familiar from perhaps a Jean Claude Van Dam?
- 8:49Rob Schneider movie that you love?
- 8:51Oh, is he from Knockoff?
- 8:54He's in Knock off.
- 8:55I unapologetically love knockoff.
- 8:57That movie is so insane.
- 8:59Have you guys seen it?
- 9:00No, but I'm wondering, is he the head cop?
- 9:03Yeah, yeah, yeah.
- 9:03Okay.
- 9:04Steve Cannon.
- 9:05Alright.
- 9:05They say his name like four times and I'm like, I gotta change my name.
- 9:08Yeah.
- 9:08So guys knockoff Jean Claude Vanda and Rob Schneider.
- 9:12Are living in China selling knockoff jeans and they accidentally get roped into
- 9:17like a whole murder drug ring plot, like an Interpol situation kinda like this.
- 9:22This sounds like a film I need to watch.
- 9:25It sounds like the Lawrence Stroll Lance Stroll origin story.
- 9:29Oh no.
- 9:32Doesn't Lawrence Stroll like own like a denim company or something?
- 9:35I thought.
- 9:35I think so.
- 9:35Yeah.
- 9:35I think that's right.
- 9:37It's called Knockoff and guys, it's so stupid.
- 9:40I love it so much watching that.
- 9:42But you might also have seen him in movies like City Hunters, seven
- 9:45Swords, transformers Age of Extinction.
- 9:48Oh, zombie Fight Club.
- 9:49And of course Skiptrace another Jackie Chan, Johnny Knoxville vehicle.
- 9:53Yeah.
- 9:55Uh, we also have Thorston Nickel as Vna Cougar.
- 9:59Cogman Krugman or whatever the hell man, that guy.
- 10:02Wow.
- 10:03Yeah.
- 10:03Only six credits.
- 10:05Not surprised.
- 10:06I know, right?
- 10:07Uh, he was in this, he was Demon thorston in Jackie Chan's Fist of fire.
- 10:11Yes.
- 10:12The legendary video game from around the same time.
- 10:14And he was in 1990 nine's lethal combat.
- 10:17You'll never guess what this is.
- 10:20It's about a game designer who gets caught up in a computer generated
- 10:24assassins thing, blah, blah.
- 10:25It's basically someone trying to make a moral combat rip off.
- 10:27Yeah.
- 10:28Yeah.
- 10:28But, uh, so tell me that he isn't the living embodiment of the bad guy
- 10:32from Captain Planet with the pulled back hair and the tight ponytail.
- 10:36Remember that guy?
- 10:37Oh, yeah, yeah, yeah.
- 10:38He had like the German accent or whatever.
- 10:40Right.
- 10:40That's exactly it.
- 10:41So every time this guy was on screen, I was like, you're the
- 10:43bad guy from Captain Planet.
- 10:44That's also the bad guy from Gargoyle Santos.
- 10:48Except for, I mean, whoever that struck the accent, but it's, it's the same.
- 10:52He's voiced by Riker.
- 10:53I was gonna say the only one guy that isn't from this cast of Star Trek.
- 10:59One other, I wanted to mention Corey Yun as the doctor who he, Steve, well
- 11:04he has over 110 credits, but what he's really known for is being a stunt slash
- 11:09fight coordinator for movies like.
- 11:10The drunken Master X-Men.
- 11:12The one, the Transporter series, cradle to the grave, Bulletproof
- 11:16Monk, war Expendables and Wild Card.
- 11:19Another Statham Classic.
- 11:21That's awesome.
- 11:21So he's got legitimate credits.
- 11:23Oh yeah, yeah.
- 11:24He has like 110 credits, but it's always as guy Jackie Chan punches in face over
- 11:28the railing or something like, you know, he's probably got it in his contract.
- 11:31I'll teach all these stunt guys, but I need a, I need a cameo.
- 11:34He's constantly wearing a rig just in case.
- 11:37Nice.
- 11:37Yeah.
- 11:37That's all I got for cast.
- 11:38How'd you guys watch this?
- 11:39We watched this on YouTube and, uh, threw a couple bucks their way.
- 11:42I watched it painfully, I bought it on Voodoo because.
- 11:45I have reasons.
- 11:47So you now own it.
- 11:48You bought it for like 15 bucks or whatever.
- 11:50It wasn't even that bad.
- 11:51I think it was like eight or nine bucks.
- 11:53Yeah, that sounds about right.
- 11:53Yeah.
- 11:54I'm adding it to my collection of Jackie Chan movies that I have a
- 11:57quite extensive collection of movies, so I was like, why not add one more?
- 12:01How bad could it be?
- 12:02It can't be any worse than the Shanghai series, which are super cringe today.
- 12:07They're very hard to watch.
- 12:08The Shanghai movies are great.
- 12:09What are you talking about?
- 12:11I love them.
- 12:12When I was younger it was like, watch 'em on repeat.
- 12:15But now I have a hard time watching Shanghai Noon and Shanghai, John Wayne.
- 12:19That's a terrible cowboy name.
- 12:20When was the last time you watched rush hour?
- 12:23Yeah, it's pretty bad too.
- 12:25It's okay Eric, if they're making another one.
- 12:27Oh no.
- 12:28Our uh, great dictator demands it apparently.
- 12:30So what I love is, you know, like rush hour, the food was, uh, do you understand
- 12:34the words that are coming outta my mouth?
- 12:35No one understands the words you're coming outta your mouth.
- 12:37The fact that Jackie Chan did not speak English at that time, he was
- 12:40learning all of his lines phonetically.
- 12:42So even Jackie Chan did not understand the words that were coming out of his mouth.
- 12:45That's awesome.
- 12:47That's awesome.
- 12:49Super pathetic.
- 12:50Before we dive into the movie, did anybody watch the trailer for this?
- 12:54Before they watched the movie?
- 12:55Oh, no, no.
- 12:56It was like the first two and a half minutes of the movie.
- 12:59That was the trailer.
- 13:00Thank you.
- 13:01I'm glad you watch it because I, I was gonna watch it with my family, like,
- 13:04Hey, you wanna watch a Jackie Chan movie?
- 13:06Why not?
- 13:06Eh, it's like 30 years old and we put on the trailer and we're like, what is this?
- 13:11It was so slow and so boring.
- 13:14And I'm like, is this even the right movie?
- 13:15And I'm like, all over the internet.
- 13:17Did I get the wrong thing?
- 13:18Like, what is going on?
- 13:19Blah, blah.
- 13:19You know, usually the trailers are like action packed and I've always
- 13:23seen that clip, which is the opening scene of the movie with him at the
- 13:26training facility in Japan with the Mitsubishis and all the rally art
- 13:30stuff and which is what got me excited.
- 13:32Yeah.
- 13:32Excited about the movie, right?
- 13:33Oh, we're gonna do racing.
- 13:34This is gonna be great, but it's like, what is going on?
- 13:38Yeah.
- 13:38When you guys were telling me about this, I was like, why would Jackie
- 13:40Chan be doing a racing movie?
- 13:41Like, it's okay.
- 13:42There's gonna be some Jackie Chan stuff in here.
- 13:44It's not just gonna be a drama.
- 13:46Hopefully.
- 13:47Like, it'd be weird if this was like the one time Uhhuh, you
- 13:51know, it's like a romantic comedy called Thunderbolt or something.
- 13:54Uh, Uhhuh Uhhuh.
- 13:55But uh, but yeah, when we started off and yeah, he's at car manufacturing,
- 13:59like taking notes and shit.
- 14:00Like, wait, is he learning to become a mechanic or just
- 14:02getting all the latest info?
- 14:04And apparently they were planning on doing a double loopty loop.
- 14:07Yeah.
- 14:07Because that was one of the things like, they're like, you know, pointing
- 14:09to the chalkboard, blah, blah, blah.
- 14:10And then down to a, a diagram of double loopty loop.
- 14:13And I'm like, what are they doing there in Mitsubishi?
- 14:15Yeah, it was like the Hot Wheels track.
- 14:17I was like, what is happening here?
- 14:19They're teasing the finale, right?
- 14:22Yeah.
- 14:23Yeah.
- 14:23It's basically just a a, a testing montage and then we see like a bus
- 14:27on a racetrack and I'm like hills.
- 14:28Yeah.
- 14:29So you know what's interesting about that montage?
- 14:31You know that big oval where they were testing the bus on Yeah.
- 14:35Super high embankment or whatever.
- 14:36Mm-hmm.
- 14:37So I dug into this a little bit 'cause I was like trying to figure
- 14:39out what racetracks this was.
- 14:40And so, super fun fact, which we'll get to later if you have
- 14:44it on your list, but I don't, not all of the filming was in Japan.
- 14:47Some of it was in Hong Kong and this and that, but that particular track is in
- 14:51Germany and it's owned by Volkswagen.
- 14:54Oh, top gear used that track many times.
- 14:57That's where James May got the top speed on the Bugatti Beron, correct.
- 15:01It is the high speed track and so yeah, it's in Germany, so it was
- 15:04pretty cool to see that they used that.
- 15:06I like when he's trying to run up it at one point, like what's going on?
- 15:09Yeah.
- 15:10You know, outtake, whatcha you doing?
- 15:11Yeah, let's say, is that the same one from the outtakes where
- 15:12he was like trying to climb it?
- 15:14Yeah, I think that's kind of the only part in the entire movie that, uh, spoiler.
- 15:17We'll find out later.
- 15:18He has a totally shattered ankle 'cause he is kinda limping
- 15:22in that scene a little bit.
- 15:23Did you guys also happen to know who the stunt coordinator for this movie is?
- 15:26Jackie Chan.
- 15:27Is it a doctor or stunt director?
- 15:29I guess?
- 15:29Well, Jackie does his own stunts partially.
- 15:32Well, he does his own stunts, but he doesn't direct all of his own stunts.
- 15:35It's Samo Hung.
- 15:36Who's he?
- 15:37You guys know who Samo Hung is?
- 15:38No.
- 15:38Remember, uh, a series in the late nineties called Martial Law with slightly
- 15:42overweight Chinese gentlemen, basically kicking everybody's ass every week.
- 15:46Oh, I know who you're talking about.
- 15:48Yes.
- 15:49Yes, yes.
- 15:50Yeah, that's Sam o Hung.
- 15:51He's also legendary stunt coordinator and martial artist since like the seventies.
- 15:55He's also in the man from Hong Kong, one of the greatest movies ever made.
- 15:58Yeah, the stunt woman, him and Michelle.
- 16:00Yo stunting it up.
- 16:01Yeah, he's, that's a great flick.
- 16:03But yeah, he pops up everywhere, but yeah.
- 16:04Yeah, he's the stunt director for this movie and I, as soon as
- 16:07I saw that, I'm like, oh good.
- 16:08There is gonna be some Jackie Chan shit in this movie.
- 16:12So music montage encapsulates all the racing part at the beginning
- 16:15of the exciting part, which could have been the trailer.
- 16:17And then we go to the scene with his hand and the girl and Right.
- 16:21That was super weird.
- 16:22So we see him in the garage, we, Jackie Jan's working late, they're at
- 16:25the garage and it's like, okay, cool.
- 16:26What's going on?
- 16:27And some girl's just going through all the cars, like opening the doors,
- 16:30looking around a little bit closing.
- 16:31I'm like, is she gonna try to like steal some of 'em?
- 16:34Some girl like, who is this chick?
- 16:37He goes over to like, excuse me, can I help you?
- 16:39She's like, oh, sorry, I'm looking for my earring.
- 16:41Ha.
- 16:42I don't know.
- 16:43It's kind of just klutzy or whatever.
- 16:45And like bashes him at the door and slams his hand in the door.
- 16:48He like gets a concussion.
- 16:49I swear.
- 16:49He sold it pretty well.
- 16:50We were talking about watching this movie.
- 16:52Really good.
- 16:53Stunt guys have no problem, like playing sort of like.
- 16:57Injured or clumsy on screen.
- 16:59And this is something you never see Vin Diesel or Sylvester Stallone do on screen.
- 17:04They never have a moment of weakness.
- 17:06But like Jackie Chan, who's doing all his own stunts and has forever, is like happy
- 17:10to like sort of do these kinds of scenes.
- 17:12Like it's almost a trademark.
- 17:13Well, it's also the steroids and the fact that they can't turn their necks.
- 17:16Yeah.
- 17:16So it might be kind of hard to play the goofy guy.
- 17:19Right.
- 17:19True.
- 17:19True.
- 17:20To your point, Izzy, I've always viewed Jackie more like almost like
- 17:23a circus clown or like an acrobat.
- 17:26Like his style is very playful.
- 17:27Yes.
- 17:28And obviously he's a martial artist, but he's very fluid in what he does.
- 17:32Joyful in what he does.
- 17:33Exactly.
- 17:33He's more Dick Van Dyke than Dolf lre.
- 17:35Yes, exactly.
- 17:36Exactly's ridiculous.
- 17:37So we were like talking about like who in the Expendables
- 17:39would do this kind of scene?
- 17:40And Steve's like, oh, it's Jet Lee.
- 17:42Yeah.
- 17:42Jet Lee's Lee Won's.
- 17:43But because he's a super accomplished martial artist.
- 17:45Yeah.
- 17:46He doesn't have any hide because he physically can like maybe sta
- 17:50them, but sta them's not like, oh, I'm not taking a punch to the face.
- 17:53Right.
- 17:54Yeah, exactly.
- 17:55He's not gonna play the full.
- 17:56You don't have to.
- 17:56When you've participated in the Olympics, Steve, that was a dilemma.
- 18:01He was a diver.
- 18:03So this is where we cut to the trailer.
- 18:04Yeah.
- 18:05We cut to the Bonneville salt flats like outta nowhere.
- 18:08Like okay, cool.
- 18:09Some ponytail German guys testing his race car and we find out he's Cougar,
- 18:14Cougar Krugman, or whatever his name is.
- 18:16Apparently he found out there was another undercover guy in his crew.
- 18:20Are they doing drugs out there at the Bonneville Salt flats?
- 18:22Like?
- 18:22Like we know nothing about this guy going in.
- 18:25Just like I knew you were undercover and now I'm gonna drag you fur style through
- 18:29the Bonneville salt flats with his thumbs.
- 18:32Oh yeah.
- 18:32God, you feel like the thumbs would give up after like a quarter mile maybe.
- 18:37But enough of that shit.
- 18:38Then we cut to outside the police department where there's an exchange
- 18:41of suitcases going on, literally in front of the police department.
- 18:45Ballsy.
- 18:47There was something to do with drugs.
- 18:49'cause I thought he, I was so confused if we back it up for a second.
- 18:52Yeah, yeah, yeah.
- 18:52After the Bonneville salt flash thing, and he's hanging out in
- 18:55front of the police station.
- 18:56Mm-hmm.
- 18:57And he's wearing a cap with a police badge on it.
- 19:01Yeah.
- 19:01I thought he, is he a dirty cop?
- 19:03Maybe.
- 19:03Because then a guy walked out from the station and was
- 19:06like, here's the briefcase.
- 19:07What do we have here?
- 19:08And he opens it up and there's guns.
- 19:09But then there's like the secret compartment full of cash and something
- 19:12swaddle, probably cocaine, I don't know.
- 19:15And then he opened the other secret compartment with little vials,
- 19:18probably heroin, likely of drugs.
- 19:20And it's like, all right, we're going to Hong Kong next.
- 19:22Yeah.
- 19:23That, that was all that scene.
- 19:24But it's like, okay.
- 19:25But he is also like a world famous race car driver or whatever, apparently.
- 19:29And nobody's gonna talk about his C four Corvette, his Barbie car.
- 19:31I was thinking it the whole time.
- 19:32Yes.
- 19:33And then we cut to Hong Kong for shopping and racing.
- 19:36What is going on at this movie?
- 19:38And we're only three minutes in.
- 19:40That's the best part of two hours.
- 19:42But yeah, enough of that shit.
- 19:43Now we cut to a junkyard.
- 19:44Yeah, right.
- 19:45Alright.
- 19:45Now we gotta identify every car that's in the junkyard go.
- 19:48No, we're not doing that.
- 19:49There's a lot of cars.
- 19:50Dan is not here.
- 19:51There's no car.
- 19:51There was that to charade.
- 19:53There was a Chrysler Valiant.
- 19:55There was the Pacific Tanya.
- 20:00I'm glad you brought up a desu charade.
- 20:02When we left San Francisco in 2019, there was still a singular DSU
- 20:07charade that was driving around in parking in like the mission area.
- 20:12And it turns out that like I know the person whose brother owned it
- 20:15and apparently it was a complete piece of shit, but he thought it
- 20:17was hilarious to keep it running.
- 20:20Nice.
- 20:20Would bet it's still there.
- 20:21Oh yeah, yeah, absolutely.
- 20:23Now at this point, the yellow car shows up for those that are car aficionados.
- 20:28I got excited.
- 20:29That's a third gen RX seven.
- 20:31That car was new when this movie came out.
- 20:34That was the hot car in 1995.
- 20:37Like it was legit.
- 20:39Yeah.
- 20:39Awesome sauce.
- 20:40The color isn't the greatest, but, uh, no, it's kidding though.
- 20:43R seven wears yellow.
- 20:44Well, but I don't know about you guys.
- 20:46If you've watched enough Jackie Chan movies, you knew what
- 20:49was coming next though, right?
- 20:50So the guy's like, Hey, work on my car, give you money.
- 20:53You make it go fast.
- 20:54And he's like, get the hell outta here, blah.
- 20:56Right?
- 20:57And then they cut to the next scene and he's in his red jumpsuit as a mechanic.
- 21:01And the whole thing, I need a place to lose the cops when I'm running
- 21:04from him and you, you're gonna help me, blah, blah, blah, go to hell.
- 21:07And the guy's like, okay, fine, fine, fine.
- 21:09Bye bye.
- 21:10I'm just gonna go over here, blah, blah, blah.
- 21:12And then we cut to him.
- 21:13He's at a cafe just outside of the junkyard or whatever, and these
- 21:17two school girls go walking by.
- 21:18And so he gives a little firm open palm slap on the behind, and they're like,
- 21:22ah, you pervert, blah, blah, blah.
- 21:25I like to look.
- 21:27That's how we know he is a bad guy.
- 21:28Yeah.
- 21:29But then the girls go into the junkyard and it's like, oh shit.
- 21:32Like there's a certain formula to a Jackie ch like, you know a fight is coming.
- 21:36Oh yeah.
- 21:36Right.
- 21:37Yeah.
- 21:37Yeah.
- 21:37So he doesn't want no trouble.
- 21:38Here we go.
- 21:39Good old, uh, a brother Jackie Chan.
- 21:41He is like, surprise fucker.
- 21:44Before we get into the fight itself, which was amazing.
- 21:47Did you guys notice how it felt like the first Fast and the Furious at that moment?
- 21:52Like the little sandwich shop and they're getting their lunch and the
- 21:55guys are sitting there all around and there's some pretty girls.
- 21:58Yeah.
- 21:58Yeah.
- 21:58Toto Sandwiches.
- 21:59That's where they were at.
- 22:00Yeah.
- 22:00Yeah, exactly.
- 22:01And I was like, man, if Fast and The Furious did rip this scene off.
- 22:05Yeah.
- 22:05You know, back when Fast and Furious just sold Zoom players.
- 22:10Yeah.
- 22:10So yeah, it starts whooping their asses a little bit, but only a little
- 22:13bit just to teach 'em a lesson.
- 22:14'cause they start like, oh, I'm sorry, I'm sorry, I had no idea, blah, blah, blah.
- 22:17And he's got like a shovel ready to like dig a grave.
- 22:20And after beating him today, and then some cops drive by and they're like, Hey
- 22:24Jackie, what's uh, what's going on here?
- 22:26And they like pick him up and say, they gotta go do a sting or something.
- 22:29And I'm like, hold on, is he a fucking cock too?
- 22:31It's very confusing.
- 22:32And again, we're like.
- 22:33Five minutes into the movie now, like it moves really fast.
- 22:36Yeah.
- 22:37Don't explain a lot.
- 22:38There's a lot that you have to fill in your own blanks about.
- 22:42I'm like, yeah, some of us gotta work a couple jobs to get by.
- 22:45Even back in the nineties in Hong Kong, I think Jackie Shannon, every
- 22:48movie has to like work several jobs.
- 22:51He's not usually a rich guy.
- 22:52No.
- 22:52Well, yeah.
- 22:53Who was the one?
- 22:54Uh, battle Creek.
- 22:55Brawl.
- 22:55Battle Creek Brawl.
- 22:56Yeah.
- 22:57How other in that one?
- 22:58Like sick?
- 22:58Yeah.
- 22:59He like, he's like, all right, I gotta do some laundry.
- 23:01And then I kind of go to wash some dishes and uh Oh yeah.
- 23:04I also do street fights on the side.
- 23:06Jackie Chan was the washer woman, right.
- 23:08Yeah.
- 23:08So then we go to that night, they're setting up like a checkpoint, pull it over
- 23:12cars to see if they've been souped up.
- 23:13'cause apparently that's illegal in Hong Kong.
- 23:15You know, very fast and furious.
- 23:17Like I was waiting to see like the girls, the short shorts and jaw
- 23:20rule showing up for some reason.
- 23:23Jaw rule.
- 23:24This is like Brad's favorite scene though.
- 23:26We were even talking about this yesterday about how ludicrous it was.
- 23:30Oh yeah.
- 23:30Tow toe, toe.
- 23:32This, uh, these, these rotors are not stock to this exhaust.
- 23:35Does not smell stock tow.
- 23:36Yeah.
- 23:37That was my favorite.
- 23:37When he sticks his nose like up the exhaust pipe, he's like,
- 23:40this exhaust is not stock tow.
- 23:42Yeah.
- 23:43He, he was saying something like, you'd have to like look at the engines to see.
- 23:47Right.
- 23:47And, and I'm like, you haven't even popped the hood.
- 23:49Well the one, he was like, hood pins go toe.
- 23:53Yeah.
- 23:53Hood pins are not factory cho, but then boom, boom room a speedster
- 23:57goes by and they're like, oh, quick, Jason, blah, blah, blah.
- 24:00And there's like a cop on a bicycle that's like gonna stand
- 24:03in the way and get ran over.
- 24:04But then Jackie Jen runs over and like saves him the last minute
- 24:08and then a cop car rolls and I'm like, how the fuck did that happen?
- 24:11Yeah.
- 24:11That cop kind just like rolled outta nowhere more where that comes from.
- 24:15Yeah.
- 24:16But enough of that shit.
- 24:17We then cut to Interpol where we meet the real hero of the movie.
- 24:19Steve Cannon.
- 24:20Yeah, Steve.
- 24:24But it's really just so they can say his name and see that
- 24:26he's doing something involving a billboard and a crew of people.
- 24:30He's all that is man, Steve.
- 24:31Hey.
- 24:31He doesn't even say like, okay, we're trying to bring down a
- 24:34certain person or whatever.
- 24:36Just like, alright, we are set up here in Hong Kong.
- 24:38I am with Interpol.
- 24:39Then we cut to the junkyard.
- 24:41I don't know, I was a little confused at this scene at the first, 'cause I
- 24:43thought they were just playing dra, right?
- 24:45They're just like spinning a top or whatever, but it, they're trying to spin
- 24:48it on like one of those magnet things.
- 24:50So it looks like it's like hovering and spinning and like
- 24:52perpetually going or whatever and, but it took a couple minutes.
- 24:56One thing I do like about this scene though, we see their couch
- 24:59and you guys know it's the couch in the scene and their coffee table.
- 25:01Yeah.
- 25:01The couch was the back of a car with leather seats in it.
- 25:04I so yeah, it was like the back of a Cadillac or something.
- 25:06Pretty sweet.
- 25:07I want a car couch.
- 25:09Yeah.
- 25:09Those things are so expensive.
- 25:10It's like those car beds.
- 25:12Yeah.
- 25:12What a race car bed.
- 25:14I sleep in a race car.
- 25:15I mean, when you sleep in a shipping container, I guess you can have all
- 25:18that stuff, but we'll get to that too.
- 25:19Hell too.
- 25:20Yeah.
- 25:21You know the shipping container seems really cool until you realize there's
- 25:24no plumbing and zero insulation.
- 25:26Luckily they live in a tropical climate and then we cut to them
- 25:29again like a night check pointer.
- 25:31Jackie Chan and his dad, they're sitting in a tow truck waiting for
- 25:36speeds to come by, but they're doing the whole uh, gone in 60 seconds thing
- 25:39where they're like trying to identify the car by the sound and stuff.
- 25:42And I'm like, alright, this is why Eric picked this movie.
- 25:44Then this news crew, like a reporter and cameraman, just kinda
- 25:47pop around the corner, Hey, why are you guys helping the cops?
- 25:50Blah, blah, blah.
- 25:51And Jackie Jan's like, get that shit on my face.
- 25:53It's okay, we can cover your face.
- 25:54I'm like, it doesn't matter in China.
- 25:56I'm sorry guys.
- 25:57It really, Steve, you've been to China.
- 25:59There's five faces there, guy.
- 26:00I'm sorry.
- 26:01It's just how it is.
- 26:02The entire police force is out looking for people racing.
- 26:05Yes.
- 26:06Like hundreds of cops out in them streets.
- 26:09They're just sitting and waiting and then like, all right, well it's eight
- 26:12o'clock and nothing's happening, so we should just call it a day.
- 26:14The news car, like green of oil or something.
- 26:17Ran.
- 26:17Or gas.
- 26:18Or gas?
- 26:18Gas.
- 26:19That's right in the side of the road.
- 26:20And there's a great one liner here 'cause they're arguing about something and at
- 26:23one point his dad, the old guy who was sniffing the exhaust pipe earlier, I
- 26:27think he was still high on the fumes.
- 26:29And I thought this was really telling, right?
- 26:31He goes, all cars need gas except the electric ones.
- 26:34And I'm like, hold on a second.
- 26:36Yeah, this movie was written in the mid nineties.
- 26:38We were dabbling with electric cars back then.
- 26:41Not like today.
- 26:41Oh.
- 26:42Thought there was, they've been around for a while, Eric.
- 26:44Just not here in America.
- 26:45I mean, okay.
- 26:46Well and that's the thing, this is a movie made in Hong Kong, so Yeah.
- 26:50It's like in the, uh, karate Kid with Jackie Chan and Jayden Smith, where
- 26:53they have like the water heaters that are like the size of a two liter.
- 26:56Yeah, yeah, I know what you're talking about.
- 26:58Anyway, a lot of cool stuff going on outside of America.
- 27:01You guys should, uh, check it out.
- 27:02I mean, if you get the chance, but then, uh, they come by and
- 27:04they're like, oh yeah, we can give you some guests to top it off.
- 27:07And then a speedster comes going by.
- 27:09Okay.
- 27:09Okay.
- 27:10Let's talk about these two cars for a second.
- 27:12'cause you know, I mentioned earlier the RX seven, the hotness, the silver car.
- 27:16Not a Supra.
- 27:17Do you guys know what it is?
- 27:18It was a Gallant, well, it was a Mitsubishi.
- 27:21Well, the whole thing was Mitsubishi, right?
- 27:22Sponsored by Mitsubishi.
- 27:24Well, no, but the Bad guy's car was the skyline, correct?
- 27:26Yes.
- 27:27It was R 32 Skyline.
- 27:28Yeah.
- 27:28The silver car was a Mitsubishi, but not a 3000 GT or GTO.
- 27:32It was something else.
- 27:33Something from, I remember from the Grand Ismo days, but I cannot
- 27:35remember what it actually is.
- 27:37The FTO?
- 27:38Yes, that's it.
- 27:39Yeah, yeah, yeah, exactly.
- 27:40Yeah.
- 27:40The hot eclipse.
- 27:41Basically, the better eclipse, the one that we didn't get because it
- 27:44was front wheel drive, wasn't it?
- 27:45Correct.
- 27:46Like something, yeah, it's the cousin to the Eclipse.
- 27:48We got the prettier one with the Fast and the Furious car,
- 27:50the green one, the original one, but the FTO was the better car.
- 27:53Mm-hmm.
- 27:54Well, of course Jackie Chan's got a commandeer it though for some hot pursuit.
- 27:59So he hops in the car with the reporter, they go drive it off and he's like,
- 28:02call the police, pause you there because I would like to interject.
- 28:04That was very impressed by the zero to 60 speed of a Mitsubishi FTO
- 28:10from a dead stop to instantly being right on the tail of that skyline.
- 28:14You know how fast the skylines are?
- 28:16They are monstrously quick.
- 28:18That's why the car has to stop 'cause we see Cougar and he's obviously impressed.
- 28:23'cause you know, apparently Jackie Chan has teleport technology in that car.
- 28:26Yep.
- 28:27Here I wrote a note and I underlined it as I do.
- 28:30I take copious notes when we read these films.
- 28:32You remember when we did Highway to Hell and I kept talking about the bear?
- 28:35Yeah.
- 28:35There's no bears in this movie.
- 28:36However, did you notice.
- 28:39Our bad guy, captain Planet villain guy.
- 28:41How many different sunglasses he wore in the film?
- 28:44Oh, he has different sunglasses ever seen.
- 28:46Correct.
- 28:46So now we got the yellow like DeWalt.
- 28:48I'm gonna go cut some timber in my spare time kind of thing going
- 28:52on as he is driving at night.
- 28:53There's snow barter glasses 'cause the warm colors help
- 28:56you spot the trails better.
- 28:58Duh.
- 28:59Yeah, but this perpetuates through the film, as you said.
- 29:02He's got different sunglasses in every scene.
- 29:05It's ridiculous.
- 29:06And there's a lot of seeds waiting for him to have like the 3D glasses or whatever
- 29:09from back to the future or something.
- 29:11We all have that friend in our life who like is constantly losing their
- 29:14sunglasses and sitting on their sunglasses and has to go to the county fair and
- 29:17buy like 15 pairs of the $5 sunglasses.
- 29:20Uhhuh guy, guy, he's not Gof compartment filled with them.
- 29:22Like, he's like, oh fuck, I settle my glasses again.
- 29:25And just one of his s like your ego boss.
- 29:26Or maybe he's like Jordan, the stallion on Instagram.
- 29:29He's seen him and he like chucks his glasses all the time and
- 29:31the guy must go through like hundreds of glasses in a year.
- 29:34He is always throwing 'em across the room.
- 29:36Anyway, moving on.
- 29:37So we get back into Harper Pursuit and they're treating some paint,
- 29:39eh, and then Jackie Chan like runs into a water barrel and I'm like,
- 29:43well, that's the end of that race.
- 29:44Oh, I would be wrong.
- 29:46I would be absolutely wrong that he's still able to keep up.
- 29:48Cougar, he like ends up like jumping in the car, like hitting a ramp or
- 29:52some shit and we, and then they come to a roadblock, start like spinning
- 29:57around, okay, well Cougar's back.
- 29:59Now they're like rear ending each other like the bumper, but then
- 30:03like hitting the brakes and shit.
- 30:04Luckily, eventually this kind of stops when there's a spike strip
- 30:07thrown out from a roadblock.
- 30:08Yeah, Cougar's caught rolled credits.
- 30:10Guys, what do we think?
- 30:11I think that was need for speed.
- 30:13Hot pursuit.
- 30:14Back in the old days, like throw the spike strip, call the cop.
- 30:17This was the messiest car chase.
- 30:19I'd ever witnessed super erratic.
- 30:22This was the end of act one of the film.
- 30:25We're 12 minutes into the film at this point.
- 30:28Yeah.
- 30:28Well, it wasn't cut the greatest, but you know, it's not, not
- 30:30like George Miller's directing.
- 30:32It's No, no, it's not even the cutting of the scenes.
- 30:34It's the driving itself.
- 30:35If you looked at what they were doing, it's not possible.
- 30:38And if you looked at a Fast and the Furious film later, or any of the great
- 30:41car chase scenes like the Seven Ups or Vanishing Point and stuff like that
- 30:45where the guys are really smooth and maybe they're drifting and whatever.
- 30:49I mean there were some points where it's like herky jerky, weird lane change.
- 30:53They were trading pain.
- 30:54Thought it was watching Lando and Oscar at Canada last year.
- 30:57It's like freaking bonkers the way they were driving.
- 31:00And it was just like, this is the worst cinematography for
- 31:03a chase scene I've ever seen.
- 31:05I know what you're saying.
- 31:06It needs one of those scenes.
- 31:07The camera goes under the hood and we watch the spark go down the wires and
- 31:11ignite the fuel and danger to, and then, and then through the steering
- 31:15wheel into the hands of the driver.
- 31:16And we see Paul Walker's baby blues.
- 31:18Electrify.
- 31:19Yes, yes, yes.
- 31:21All of that.
- 31:22So, so we catch up the next morning, we're at the police department.
- 31:25Amy, the, uh, reporter, she calls her boss and is like, oh my God,
- 31:29I've got the greatest story ever.
- 31:30I was actually there when Cougar Krugman or whatever got pulled
- 31:33over and he is like, that's great.
- 31:34Send me the pictures and we'll get on the news.
- 31:36And she's.
- 31:37Oh shit about that.
- 31:38I just have the story.
- 31:39I didn't have a camera with me.
- 31:41Nobody wants to hear your story.
- 31:42We want pictures, tries again next time.
- 31:45It's a bummer for her, but like, he's not wrong.
- 31:47Yeah, yeah, yeah, totally.
- 31:48But then, uh, we get to the interrogation room and Jackie Chan's in there
- 31:52and they bring in Cougar and he is basically like, oh, you want pithy
- 31:55good last night, you shall dress me.
- 31:57You got some skews.
- 31:59And you know, Steve Cannon comes into the room and he's like.
- 32:01Alright, bitch, you're going to jail.
- 32:03But then lawyers start coming in, they're like, uh, Uhuh, he's got a Libyan passport
- 32:08that says That's not Cougar Krugman.
- 32:10And I'm like, oh, okay, cool.
- 32:11He keeps the Libyans.
- 32:12Yeah.
- 32:13Yeah.
- 32:13I mean, alright, so it was just some other guy that you caught driving
- 32:17recklessly and blah, blah blah.
- 32:18Cool.
- 32:19We'll just keep you in cell until we can really identify who the hell you are.
- 32:23Alright, then next scene.
- 32:25Enough of that, Jackie Chan, he's gotta get back to work, but of course
- 32:27the news crew's there and his dad and his sisters are like letting
- 32:31him like go through all of his shit.
- 32:32Like check out, I guess he has a bunch of racing trophies and uh,
- 32:36all kinds of stuff as she comes to visit them at the junkyard slash
- 32:39shipping container house or whatever.
- 32:40Mm-hmm.
- 32:41There's a Kosh in the garage, which I thought was pretty cool.
- 32:44And then Tanya, did you catch as they're going into the office where
- 32:47she's interviewing the sister and then she's gonna end up talking to the dad?
- 32:51There was a. Audi Deutsche Touring poster on the wall, like Hans V eight.
- 32:57Audi was like right there in the doorway as he walked into that little office.
- 33:00I was like, what are you doing with your arm there?
- 33:01Talking about the Germans and the point Yeah.
- 33:04Yeah.
- 33:04That's, uh, the wall.
- 33:05What, what's going on there, Eric?
- 33:06That's an awfully odd way to position your hand and holding a
- 33:0945 degree angle and, and talking about some Germans out sharply.
- 33:12That's, uh, I call it the Elon, the Germans.
- 33:15And anyway, I nerd it out a little bit.
- 33:19That's what you did.
- 33:20You nerd it out.
- 33:21I don't think Tanya saw it.
- 33:23Tanya's dead.
- 33:24She's gone.
- 33:24You know what?
- 33:25A German stubs, his toe yells out Quin.
- 33:29Anyway, so the, uh, yeah, the reporter's like trying to like interview Jackie,
- 33:33but basically like, okay, but I've got like a whole backstory made
- 33:37out for you, so you should just lie about it, blah, blah, blah.
- 33:40And I'm like.
- 33:41What kind of reporter are you?
- 33:42This is very progressive.
- 33:43You should be an American journalist 30 years from now.
- 33:46Jackie's response is, there will be no interviews.
- 33:48That's all I kept saying.
- 33:49Yep.
- 33:50No comment.
- 33:50And then some guy in, uh, shades shows up and starts walking all over the Kosh.
- 33:55And of course everybody's like, Hey Jackie, some assholes and
- 33:58his buddies are down here.
- 34:00Eventually like walk up the stairs to like me, Jackie.
- 34:02And you're like, yeah, I got a message for you.
- 34:04Don't talk to cops.
- 34:05And then like has like a fist full of fucking cash.
- 34:08He just hands 'em and I'm like, sweet.
- 34:10Takes that.
- 34:11Cash goes to his room.
- 34:12No.
- 34:13Instead we got a fight.
- 34:14Wha Yeah.
- 34:15Jackie Chan shit, baby.
- 34:17Spin it off poles and drop kicking and going through like the barriers of like
- 34:22the stairs and back flips and, and getting hit and doing the facial reactions.
- 34:27Oh, facial reactions.
- 34:28So good.
- 34:29Yeah.
- 34:30But then also kicking him back.
- 34:32Izzy, are you gonna sing it?
- 34:33Are you you gonna go there like seventies?
- 34:35Everybody was kung fu fighting.
- 34:37Everybody
- 34:40get the fastest.
- 34:41Like we got, we gotta do the song that was going on during the, uh,
- 34:45manufacturing montage in the beginning.
- 34:50So, yeah.
- 34:51So, uh, eventually, uh, Jackie Chan works these like eight kung fu fighters,
- 34:55like into a, a paint bay at his garage and shut the doors and blast
- 34:59him with some of that yellow paint.
- 35:00They all die as of asphyxiation.
- 35:02Roll credits.
- 35:03Guys, what do we think?
- 35:05And vulnerable Act two.
- 35:09We, we, we have to wait.
- 35:10We lost Eric.
- 35:11We need to give Eric a moment.
- 35:12He, he needs to compose himself.
- 35:14He is so enamored with your beautiful singing voice.
- 35:20I'm sorry, keep going.
- 35:22Alright, so then we cut to the police department and uh, you know, Cougar's
- 35:25being released, but then Steve Cannon comes in and is like, psych bitch Jackie
- 35:29Chan says he recognizes you now from before and so you're arrested again.
- 35:33And I'm like, Uhhuh.
- 35:34So then, uh, call the FBI and Interpol and I don't know, they're gonna
- 35:38get extra security for Jackie Chan 'cause he is like a star witness now.
- 35:42So then cut to some chicken wings and uh, back at work, you know,
- 35:45at their container ship home.
- 35:47And I have in my notes, there's not a chicken wing in inside.
- 35:49Those are hot dogs on those sticks.
- 35:51What the fuck are they talking about?
- 35:53Uhhuh.
- 35:53But then there was like one chicken wing on somebody's hot dog
- 35:56roaster or whatever over the fire.
- 35:57And it's like, okay, I guess there's one cougar, his lady friend, his
- 36:01lawyer, she's going into the jail cell for visitation or whatever.
- 36:06I guess.
- 36:06And then, I don't know, the movie all of a sudden turns into heat.
- 36:09Whoa, whoa.
- 36:10Wait a minute.
- 36:10Wait, wait, wait.
- 36:11You went straight to the Rambo fight scene out of the matrix and
- 36:16you didn't talk about her pat down.
- 36:18Oh, well, I mean, yeah, there's the little pat down.
- 36:21We don't see anything.
- 36:22Pat down.
- 36:22It's just like, oh yeah.
- 36:24Sexy lady, little Pat.
- 36:25I literally wrote down in my notes.
- 36:27But cheeks.
- 36:29But cheeks.
- 36:30I was like, what is this?
- 36:33Like you see Pat Downs and Frisking, you know, in TV shows and movies, but
- 36:37I was like, what is this like full on?
- 36:39He's an international criminal mastermind.
- 36:41You gotta like go deep with those searches.
- 36:43Yeah, apparently.
- 36:44How much C four fits in a button enough.
- 36:48Did you notice when she unpacked she had it in a button?
- 36:51Or was it in her?
- 36:52Mm-hmm.
- 36:52All of her buttons?
- 36:53Yeah, because it was like a mound.
- 36:54It looked like a coconut on the side of that prison cell or the door or whatever
- 36:58it was that she put all that C four on there to like blow that thing up.
- 37:00Up?
- 37:01Yeah, it looked like a big red button basically.
- 37:03Where was she hiding that?
- 37:04It was between or coconuts?
- 37:07It was between, they thought it was a pack of Trident.
- 37:09Turned out it was a pack of C four.
- 37:11Good Lord.
- 37:13Chaos ensues.
- 37:14You know, the criminal enterprise that we still don't know what it is that
- 37:18he does other than reckless driving.
- 37:20So much reckless driving and you know, murder in the middle of the SA Flats.
- 37:24You know, that's true of the Fast and the furious too.
- 37:26If you think about Vin Diesel's car, if you think about Totto mm-hmm.
- 37:30Do we really know what he did wrong?
- 37:32So are we really gonna unpack this?
- 37:34Yeah.
- 37:34He steals Zoom players, zoom players and DVDs and MP threes,
- 37:38and he pissed off Hercules himself.
- 37:40I mean, that's a stand, but Yeah.
- 37:42But in the same way, we really don't know what Dom Totto did.
- 37:46It takes like 10 movies to kind of do that whole exposition, but in the first
- 37:50movie, you're like, well, he's the thug.
- 37:52He's a bad guy.
- 37:53In the same way this is right there.
- 37:55Like, do we really care what this guy does?
- 37:57Killed somebody on the Bonneville Salt Flats.
- 38:00I've seen like all 12 or 13 of those Fast and Furious movies several times.
- 38:03What is it that Totto does besides still Zoom players and then
- 38:08become a spy slash superhero?
- 38:09Nothing.
- 38:10Yeah.
- 38:10Zebra.
- 38:11He owns a sandwich shot.
- 38:12There you go.
- 38:12No, his sister.
- 38:14Owns the sandwich shot because I mean, he wasn't just stealing zoo players.
- 38:17I mean, it was armed robbery on like federal interstates.
- 38:21It was a federal crime, which is why Oh yeah, of course.
- 38:23The F fbi, I was involved.
- 38:24So it, I mean to limit it down to, oh, he stole Zune players, I think
- 38:29second a bit unfair to his character.
- 38:31We took, hold on.
- 38:31Hold on.
- 38:31Serious.
- 38:32Wait.
- 38:32He wasn't a petty criminal.
- 38:33He was like a legit armed robber.
- 38:36Wait, wait, wait, wait, wait.
- 38:37I thought you were joking.
- 38:38Did he really steal zoom players?
- 38:41Yeah, players flat screen TVs, whatever the hot technology was at the time.
- 38:46Yeah.
- 38:47Yeah.
- 38:47Where they drove the Hondas under the tractor trailers number.
- 38:50Yeah.
- 38:50Came like 2004.
- 38:52No.
- 38:52Was it 2001?
- 38:54Well, were they stealing from the tractor trailer?
- 38:55I honestly don't remember.
- 38:57Yeah, that's in the back technology.
- 38:59They were Robin Best Buy when they went into Johnny Tran's.
- 39:02Garage.
- 39:03Remember they saw like the boxes of DVD players and all that shit.
- 39:07Oh, like Reto was stealing the same shit and I think he was selling
- 39:09it to Johnny Tran on the side.
- 39:12Oh.
- 39:12So what is Cougar doing?
- 39:13Slapping underage girls on the ass, Steve?
- 39:16Well, there was something to do with drugs.
- 39:18No, that wasn't even him.
- 39:19That was uh, Randall Street, thug or whatever.
- 39:21Street or street.
- 39:22But basically as the police station's getting raided by the crew with like AK
- 39:2740 sevens and shit, just right, da, da da.
- 39:29We're seeing fucking head shots.
- 39:31We're seeing basically half the Hong Kong PD is wiped out.
- 39:34The cell gets blown with her smuggled in button C four or whatever, and
- 39:38her and Kruger just go walking out.
- 39:40Do do, do do.
- 39:41Oh shit, she's dead.
- 39:42But she got shot in the arm.
- 39:44Oh, I thought she got shot in the neck.
- 39:45I thought she got Charlie Kirk.
- 39:46I didn't know she got shot.
- 39:47To me, it looked like it was shot in her arm and I something.
- 39:50She's like, I'm dead.
- 39:51I was like, wow.
- 39:52Well, that was just, her head flew back.
- 39:53So I'm like, oh shit.
- 39:54Is that where the squibb went off?
- 39:55Like you know, right in the neck or whatever.
- 39:57Because they're instantly like, no, no, no time.
- 39:59We gotta leave without her.
- 40:00She's gone or whatever.
- 40:01It's just DED dead.
- 40:03Yeah.
- 40:03And then there were grenades.
- 40:05We had more grenades.
- 40:06Oh yeah.
- 40:06Dozens of grenades.
- 40:08And then Steve Cannon is the last man standing with his freaking
- 40:11suspenders looking like Cobra.
- 40:13It's like a whole thing.
- 40:14I was like, what is happening here?
- 40:15The movie took a weird turn.
- 40:17Yeah.
- 40:17Again, another scene that almost could be deleted because it was just like,
- 40:20what the hell is the point of this?
- 40:22It was gory.
- 40:23There were a lot of scenes that could have been deleted.
- 40:25Probably 95% of the film could have been deleted.
- 40:30So like, all right.
- 40:30That scene was crazy and came out of nowhere.
- 40:32Like this Jackie Chan movie, our super cop, Steve Cannon.
- 40:35Did you notice he shoots sideways?
- 40:38Oh my gosh, yes.
- 40:39Thank you.
- 40:39That what's the style at the time?
- 40:41Yeah.
- 40:42He also like one hand semi-automatic, whatever it was.
- 40:45Yeah, yeah.
- 40:45Like those things.
- 40:46They probably have some hef to them and kick, but he's just like one-handed.
- 40:50He can just spray though, guy's a badass.
- 40:54So then we cut back, it's nighttime at the junkyard Act four.
- 40:57We're in the container home and everybody's just sleeping away.
- 41:01But then we start panning around and seeing, I guess all of Jackie Chan's
- 41:05buddies are dead, or were they sleeping?
- 41:07I don't know.
- 41:08They look, 'cause the people rocking must too.
- 41:09So I'm like, okay, they must have killed them silently somehow.
- 41:12So I wrote down, is this a dream sequence?
- 41:15WTF is going on right now?
- 41:17Like, I was totally confused.
- 41:19Yeah.
- 41:20We see them operating a crane and they hook it up to the container.
- 41:24That's Jackie Chan's bedroom, I guess.
- 41:27Mm-hmm.
- 41:28And then they just fly it from the rest of the home.
- 41:30And we get to see Jackie Chan inside waking up like, what?
- 41:33What the fuck?
- 41:34And being tossed around the room with the bed and the drawer, whatever the hell's
- 41:39in there, and all sorts of, I don't know, paper and blankets, shit go flying around.
- 41:43Oh shit.
- 41:43Now it's on its side.
- 41:44And then he basically falls out of there while this is going on.
- 41:48The guy that's like in the crane with cougar is like,
- 41:51why don't you just kill him?
- 41:53It's like, ah, because guns are easy.
- 41:55I am playing mind games.
- 41:57I'm like, what?
- 41:58Pat knows how to play with his mouse.
- 42:00Yes.
- 42:01Oh, that's the line while he wears his joke's.
- 42:03Did you see those two?
- 42:04Oh my god.
- 42:05The sunglasses were unreal.
- 42:07Can somebody explain to me why this scene lasted four hours?
- 42:10Because it's the greatest scene of the movie.
- 42:12It's phenomenal.
- 42:13What is wrong with you?
- 42:14'cause literally lasted four hours.
- 42:19Jackie Chan in his, his container room and his mirror breaks.
- 42:22And so now his bare feet and hands are being cut up by the glass.
- 42:26He's getting all die hearted and shit.
- 42:28Ah, so dramatic throw.
- 42:31Eventually finds a way outta the container, like the door opens or
- 42:33whatever, and he's able to get out safely.
- 42:35But the container's still held by the crane and being rammed into
- 42:39his home where his father and, uh, the corpses of his friends and his
- 42:42two sisters are still in there.
- 42:44We get to see it from the inside where everything is falling around
- 42:48them, and it's fucking awesome.
- 42:50I wrote down Smashy Smash, smash, smash, smash.
- 42:53Oh, that's right.
- 42:54So he got.
- 42:56Out of his container bedroom by jumping out the window onto the
- 43:00balcony of the house as it's being swung at the house, fall down and like
- 43:05save his sisters from being crushed.
- 43:07Then they just drop the container through the roof of it to
- 43:10crush everything, including the Lamborghini Kunta at the bottom.
- 43:13So Brad, you know why the scene felt like it took forever?
- 43:16Because unlike other parts of the film that were sped up and then slowed down and
- 43:21sped up and slow down, yeah, slow down.
- 43:22If you sped up the crane, it would've looked like something
- 43:25out of a Charlie Chaplin film.
- 43:26So you had to do it in the kind of real time.
- 43:28And cranes are not fast.
- 43:30Yeah, super slow.
- 43:31The scene looked like it was filmed in stop motion.
- 43:37It's, I, I had never seen a live action stop motion scene before until
- 43:44this scene, and it was ridiculous.
- 43:46I will say, I think it would've been really funny, the part where the
- 43:50cable snapped and the thing drops, and then Jackie starts falling through
- 43:54as, as Steve described it, if he had suddenly turned into like California
- 43:57raising Claymation and he's like, ah.
- 44:00You know, as he's falling, I think it would've been perfect.
- 44:02I think it would've been perfect.
- 44:04They played the music from like the old timey, like comedies where people
- 44:07were going in and outta doors trying to chase each other, like B drip.
- 44:13Yeah.
- 44:14That many hill shit going on.
- 44:15Yep.
- 44:15I think we should edit the movie and put that in over it
- 44:18and speed it up a little bit.
- 44:19It would be much better.
- 44:21But then, uh, everything's falling around.
- 44:23Him and his dad has a heart attack and the sisters just go catatonic.
- 44:27Oh my God.
- 44:28I wanted to slap them.
- 44:30Wait, is it, did we miss the tug of war?
- 44:31Tug of war?
- 44:32Yeah.
- 44:32Brad, you know what I'm talking about?
- 44:33This is the tug of war part.
- 44:35Tug of war.
- 44:35Fuck are talking about.
- 44:36Oh, because the, the, the one daughter falls on top of one of the cars.
- 44:39Oh.
- 44:39And then the dad is trying to pull one way and Jackie Chan was trying
- 44:42to pull the other way and I almost feel like they didn't read the script
- 44:46correctly and they really didn't know which way they were supposed to go.
- 44:48And Jackie Chan's just like, motherfucker go this way.
- 44:51Yeah, yeah.
- 44:51And he's like, oh, okay.
- 44:53I feel like they just left that in, but it wasn't supposed to be that way.
- 44:56Yeah.
- 44:56And then Cougar just like pops up around the corner and is
- 45:00like, Hey Jackie, how's it going?
- 45:01Race me in Japan.
- 45:03But yeah, then we cut to the hospital and Jackie chance there, 'cause you know, he
- 45:06got messed up and lost a lot of blood with all the gashes and a house being dropped
- 45:10on him and whatnot in a very cartoon way.
- 45:13I thought maybe the second or third, fourth time that they tried to hit him
- 45:16with that needle, that it was gonna bend like a cartoon, like Gumby or something.
- 45:21I was like, why do they keep showing this?
- 45:23Why do they keep trying to stab him with this needle?
- 45:25I don't get it.
- 45:26Yeah.
- 45:26I don't know what was going on there.
- 45:27Yeah, they're, they're basically trying to get him to calm down
- 45:29'cause he needs to heal or whatever.
- 45:31Right?
- 45:32Uh, and the reporters are there and they're like, cannon's there too.
- 45:35And they're like, Hey, so what happened?
- 45:36Was it Cougar blah, blah, blah?
- 45:37And he's like, no, no comment, no, no, no questions.
- 45:40Blah, blah, blah.
- 45:41And then he is like kind of rages out for a bit and like
- 45:43tells the reporter Fuck off.
- 45:44And then Steve Cannon is like, no, you really gotta help me out here.
- 45:48We stuck our neck out for you.
- 45:49He is like, and then come to my whole family like, you
- 45:51don't, don't protect anybody.
- 45:53And Steve Cannon pulls his gun on Jackie Chan.
- 45:57Yeah.
- 45:57And Jackie Chan takes the gun, like puts it to his forehead.
- 45:59He is like, do it, do it.
- 46:00I fucking dare you.
- 46:02And I'm like, what is this movie?
- 46:04All of a sudden, which Jackie Chan movie was it where he does the thing
- 46:07with the gun, takes it and flips it and disassembles it, gives it back to the guy.
- 46:11The shower.
- 46:12Shower, yeah, yeah, yeah.
- 46:13All in one move.
- 46:14This could have been the moment that he practiced that.
- 46:16So Steve Cannon eventually he's like, look, I'm sorry I, I know we're,
- 46:20we're all going through a lot here.
- 46:21Let's just, teal will take care of.
- 46:22He said something about like, don't worry, we will find your sisters.
- 46:25And I'm like, are they not the hospital?
- 46:27Did I miss.
- 46:28Where they got jacked or whatever.
- 46:30Cougar took one of 'em.
- 46:31Yeah, took 'em both.
- 46:32They took both of 'em.
- 46:33Oh.
- 46:33'cause at the end, only one an nevermind, whatever.
- 46:36He got one back.
- 46:37Did you watch this movie?
- 46:38Yes.
- 46:38We'll, we'll get to it, but yeah, he is got both the sisters.
- 46:40Your intro though from IMDB says singular, his kidnapped sister.
- 46:45And that's why they were both kidnapped, but he got one of them back.
- 46:48Hans Gruber there, let one of them go.
- 46:50And then, yeah, after the Pacheco fiasco we're about to into, yeah, yeah, yeah.
- 46:54But okay.
- 46:54In, in this scene though, at the hospital or whatever, Steve can
- 46:57like dropped some photos of like Cougar with I guess other cops.
- 47:00Again, everybody looks the same, but I swear it's other people we had seen
- 47:03at the police department or whatever.
- 47:05And so I'm like, okay, well you got that Cougar's working with the cops or what?
- 47:09What?
- 47:09Why are these pictures here?
- 47:10I don't know.
- 47:11It doesn't matter.
- 47:11They're all on the take.
- 47:12So yeah, Jackie Chan gets shot up with some sedatives and fades out
- 47:15and then we cut to Jackie Chan being outside the junkyard and I'm just like,
- 47:18okay, well I guess time has passed.
- 47:20I don't know how much now I'm gonna venture to guess.
- 47:23And the reporter's there too, and she's like, leave me alone.
- 47:26You know?
- 47:26He freaks out on her a bit and she starts crying.
- 47:28Then she's like, so you're gonna start racing?
- 47:31You know, I can watch your family while you do that, and then
- 47:33you, or you can focus on that.
- 47:35You don't have to worry about all the other stuff.
- 47:37Okay, cool.
- 47:38So then he, they start building a car from scratch.
- 47:40I like how they're basically like, how are you getting the money for all this?
- 47:43And Jackie Chan's like, don't worry about it.
- 47:45Yeah.
- 47:45It's like, okay.
- 47:46I'm like, is cougar financing it also?
- 47:48That was the ultimate overnight from Japan shipment.
- 47:51Yeah.
- 47:51Right.
- 47:52Well, you know, they're next door.
- 47:53So of the iconic Mitsubishi EVO three, so far, all of these cars are an initial
- 48:00DI just wanna point that out as well.
- 48:02There were moments where I was like, this is like, or I was
- 48:07reminded of initial D. Yes.
- 48:09And I was like, which came first?
- 48:10But they came at the same time.
- 48:12Correct.
- 48:12The D or the V?
- 48:13Which one came first?
- 48:14No, year.
- 48:14D Initial D. D as in delta.
- 48:17Uh, see I was making a semen joke.
- 48:19Ah, sorry.
- 48:21Whoop.
- 48:21Right over.
- 48:22Alright.
- 48:23I'm a grownup.
- 48:24So he builds the car and now we get another entertaining scene.
- 48:28Obviously Jackie is friends with the cops and they close the roads down.
- 48:32Yeah.
- 48:32'cause they're gonna test the car on the expressway.
- 48:36So Yeah, they're basically shutting down Hong Kong for a couple of hours
- 48:39midday just 'cause Sure, why not?
- 48:41But then as luck would have it, the governor's convoys pulling on and the
- 48:44cops don't like even put a hand up to stop him, just like radio it in or whatever.
- 48:50Jackie just kind of zips past, I guess, the British governor or whatever, wasn.
- 48:56Wearing a seatbelt and he went up into the front seat, he face planted
- 48:59into the dashboard and it was awesome.
- 49:01But why?
- 49:02Because this Jackie went around them.
- 49:04So it's not like, yeah.
- 49:05Why did they even slam on the brakes?
- 49:06Yeah.
- 49:07They weren't even going that fast.
- 49:08It was, it's for the comedy.
- 49:10Okay.
- 49:11What we don't get is the British oppression of Hong Kong.
- 49:14It was symbolic.
- 49:15They were making a statement, da da da da.
- 49:18It's all lost on us as Westerners.
- 49:20I like how Eric pretends, like, we've never seen a Jean-Claude Vanda movie set
- 49:24in Hong Kong or the rush hour series.
- 49:26Yeah.
- 49:26Or any of these other, just saying, I'm just saying double impact.
- 49:30Look at us.
- 49:30Yes.
- 49:301991. Yes.
- 49:32So then we cut to Jackie Chan and Amy, they're chatting about something.
- 49:37Enough of that though, we gotta get back to some racing.
- 49:39And he's, he's doing his, uh, his test laps or whatever to like
- 49:43qualify for the race, but his laps just keep getting slower.
- 49:46Amy's checking her camera for something.
- 49:49I don't know what, but then she sees that, uh, Cougar's people are there.
- 49:52So she randomly takes a guy's bike and follows 'em.
- 49:56And I'm like, what the hell is going on that?
- 49:58The funniest little bike too.
- 49:59Yeah.
- 50:00Moto comp or something.
- 50:01It was like, it looked like the dog from Dr.
- 50:04Who remember Dr. Who in the seventies, the little dog that
- 50:06was like completely square Canine.
- 50:08Yes.
- 50:09Thank you.
- 50:10That's what the bike looked like.
- 50:12It was, it was like something outta Tron.
- 50:13It looked like a, a hot wheel intended for an 8-year-old.
- 50:16Yeah, that too.
- 50:16Yeah.
- 50:17But she's following 'em to a mall and I'm like, okay, cool.
- 50:20Oh, and then this is where it's like, wait, the sisters are kidnapped.
- 50:23When the hell did that happen?
- 50:24Because they're just hanging out with cooler.
- 50:26Y'all tied up both of them and then, yeah, so we follow 'em into
- 50:28a Pacheco parlor, apparently also headquarters for the fucking Yakuza.
- 50:32Okay.
- 50:32Okay.
- 50:32Let me ask a question.
- 50:33Alright.
- 50:34'cause I broke down.
- 50:35This is the craziest sounding casino I've ever heard.
- 50:37Just the noises.
- 50:38Mm-hmm.
- 50:38And so Pachecos come up quite a bit in anime and stuff
- 50:42like, what the hell are they?
- 50:43Have you ever played Pachinko?
- 50:45No.
- 50:45It's pinball slots apparently.
- 50:47Yeah.
- 50:48Yeah.
- 50:48It's like pinball and slots had a baby.
- 50:50Yeah.
- 50:50Uh, it's super huge in Asia.
- 50:51It's a gamble.
- 50:52It's the way to gamble.
- 50:53No, no.
- 50:53It's like our game where you roll the ball into the ski ball.
- 50:57Like ski ball.
- 50:58Yes.
- 50:59But it's pinball and you're trying to get the balls into different spots and
- 51:02in it's different payouts per thing.
- 51:04That sounds highly entertaining.
- 51:06Yeah.
- 51:07Yeah.
- 51:07It's super fun.
- 51:08It's like a big gambling thing for like 50 years.
- 51:10Why don't we have that here?
- 51:11Go to Vegas.
- 51:12Never seen them in Vegas.
- 51:13They also don't tend to break down as often from uh, Yakuza fights.
- 51:17Oh, there you go.
- 51:18So yeah, Jackie Chan gets there and he is basically, where are my sisters?
- 51:21See, this is the part where the movie leaves so much out in between.
- 51:25How did he know to go there?
- 51:27Because we know she followed him on canine Robot Scooter and then he popped up there.
- 51:32Yeah.
- 51:32And then how did he know to go there?
- 51:34Like you don't ever see that part.
- 51:35It's just like he shows up.
- 51:37I guess he called him or something and like once he was done doing is preliminary
- 51:41qualifying lapse or whatever, it's like, all right, I'll be right there.
- 51:44But the guy they were following or whatever, Cougar's guys is like,
- 51:47look, there's 30 of us in one of you.
- 51:49Get the fuck outta here.
- 51:51You know, they're, they're surrounded like, all right, we're
- 51:52gonna see some Jackie Chan shit.
- 51:54But then, nope.
- 51:55Jackie Chan just sort of, uh, walks away and then uh, he grabs a hammer
- 51:59from a nearby carnival test of strength.
- 52:01Yeah.
- 52:02You know, once where he is like slammed the hammer down and it's the little thing
- 52:05goes up the scale and hits the bell.
- 52:07But yeah, so now he is got the hammer and he is going like,
- 52:10Pachinko machine, pair machine.
- 52:11Like, Hey everybody, get outta here.
- 52:12The casino's closing.
- 52:13Get outta here, get outta here.
- 52:14Shit's about to go down.
- 52:15And then he start smashing machines, you know, they send everybody down.
- 52:19And then there was a fight, a fucking 30 hour one Jackie Chan shit going on top
- 52:23of the machines and drop kicking people.
- 52:25And then there's trampoline suspended in the air for some reason.
- 52:29Take a breath.
- 52:29Shit is amazing Flag on the play, my man.
- 52:33How do you avoid the part that all the dudes that come running out, not
- 52:37only are they Yakuza, they're naked.
- 52:40Subo Bathhouse.
- 52:41Yeah.
- 52:42Obligatory bathhouse scene.
- 52:43I literally wrote in my notes.
- 52:45More butt cheeks tattoo this time with tattoos tattooed butt cheek.
- 52:50Right?
- 52:50Well that, that's how you get a bunch of Yakuza dudes in one place at one time.
- 52:55You gotta get 'em all sweaty and in those baths and everything, it's not
- 52:58like they're there for a board meeting.
- 53:00It's not like they're telemarketing or something in the other room.
- 53:03No.
- 53:06I assume it was a brothel in the original draft, but they're like, no, we gotta
- 53:09work the Pacheco balls in it for the big finale at the end of this fight.
- 53:12No, no, no, no.
- 53:13The bathhouse is very cliche, especially in like anime and stuff like that.
- 53:17It's a token thing to do the bathhouse.
- 53:19Yes.
- 53:19Somebody had just seen, uh.
- 53:21Red Don or whatever the Yeah, right.
- 53:23You know, we see Schwarzenegger and fennel forcing fighting naked
- 53:26outside of the bathhouse in the snow.
- 53:27We should do that.
- 53:28But in Hong Kong, this is the precursor to the take the towel and do the gun thing.
- 53:33Did you notice that he ripped the sumo jock strap off the guy
- 53:37and he starts like, oh yeah.
- 53:38Like beating the shit out of another guy with it.
- 53:40I was like, this is awesome.
- 53:42This is Jackie Chan fighting.
- 53:44Right.
- 53:44This scene is his style, his thing, the circus, the comedy, all of it is so good.
- 53:50Yeah.
- 53:51Basically this whole fight culminates with all the Pacheco
- 53:54balls being dropped in slow motion.
- 53:56It's a pretty cool scene.
- 53:57So good.
- 53:59Such a good fight scene.
- 54:00So, so would you say you like his style?
- 54:01I do.
- 54:02You know who else liked his style Cougar, because he comes around after the fights
- 54:06all over and all the Pacheco balls spilled up and he is be like, he literally says.
- 54:09I like your style here.
- 54:11Have one of your sisters back.
- 54:13Mm-hmm.
- 54:13Mm-hmm.
- 54:14Okay, cool.
- 54:15Thanks bro.
- 54:16Anyway, see you on the racetrack, all that kind of shit.
- 54:18Right.
- 54:18So we cut to the track, it's the last day for qualifying and you know, Steve
- 54:22Cannon shows up and he's like, Hey, so, uh, where's your other sister?
- 54:26And Jack Jan's like, I'd like to talk about it.
- 54:28Leave me alone.
- 54:28Leave me alone.
- 54:29I, I gotta qualify, by the way.
- 54:30No, nobody's gonna mention that.
- 54:32He's got a bunch of bruises all over his fucking face.
- 54:34Yeah.
- 54:35I mean, mm-hmm.
- 54:36Oh yeah.
- 54:36This is the one time where it was like, it took 30 Yakuza warriors
- 54:40in a Pacheco bar to slightly swell Jackie Chan's lip, right?
- 54:44Yeah.
- 54:45I wrote down stairs, chairs, and trampolines.
- 54:48Yeah.
- 54:48Long story short, Jackie's gotta get a qualifying round or you
- 54:52know, lap like a minute 39.
- 54:54He just makes it and then instantly crashes and boom, fire roll credits.
- 54:59No.
- 54:59Act five so terrible.
- 55:01He comes out there and he is on fire and, but he is like, no, no, no, no.
- 55:04Save the car, save the car, use extinguishers on it.
- 55:07Not me.
- 55:07I'll be fine.
- 55:08I'm Jackie Chan.
- 55:09Yeah, so that night they have the hard remains of the car there in the garage and
- 55:12I guess the financier guy or whatever they we're like meeting for the first time is
- 55:16like, I'm sorry Jackie, I can't help you.
- 55:18Especially not by like tomorrow morning when the race is.
- 55:21Anyway, I gotta go get the track ready or whatever, you know, I
- 55:24gotta go, I gotta leave this movie.
- 55:26So next morning he goes out there and, uh, they're all getting the track ready.
- 55:29Like they have like a bunch of sweeper guys out there cleaning off the track
- 55:32and everything, getting it ready.
- 55:34And uh, Jackie Chan comes out and, uh, psych the financier shows up with like
- 55:39a couple semis filled with two new cars.
- 55:42Oh.
- 55:42And a whole shit.
- 55:43Ton of tires ready to go, and a whole semi full of tires.
- 55:47But babe, do you remember who was able to make this happen?
- 55:51I had to remind you who this was.
- 55:53Yeah, it's Ocho the girl from the beginning who lost her earring.
- 55:59That's right.
- 56:00And I'm like, wait, what?
- 56:02And she's like, I just brought my whole team.
- 56:03I figured you could use them.
- 56:05Obviously she's the queen of Mitsubishi, so we just gotta go with that.
- 56:08Yeah.
- 56:09She puts a mitsu in Mitsubishi.
- 56:11Oh yeah.
- 56:12Not only did he get a car, he got two.
- 56:13He got a spare car.
- 56:14And what did he get?
- 56:15He didn't get an FTO.
- 56:16He didn't get a lancer.
- 56:18He got a brand new 3000 GT VR four.
- 56:22Boom.
- 56:23You have this one, and so if you wreck it, you've got another one.
- 56:26Yeah, yeah.
- 56:27Backup car.
- 56:28Backup car on your guys' version.
- 56:30Did this then say, welcome to the 1999 championship?
- 56:34I don't remember.
- 56:36I don't remember there being anything.
- 56:37There's a music montage at that point where they're getting the car ready.
- 56:41The announcer announces something at the beginning.
- 56:44Yeah, and And it would expect to be 95, but I swear it said 1999.
- 56:48He said 1999.
- 56:49And I thought that was a little weird because we had the subtitle on.
- 56:52When I watch it the next time, I'll let you know.
- 56:54Yeah.
- 56:54So about this point, the previous financier, he's wearing that jacket.
- 56:59Did anyone notice that?
- 57:00It says Jackie Chan in the back of it.
- 57:02Yeah.
- 57:02Yeah.
- 57:02Jackie Chan rally something.
- 57:04Rally time or some shit like that.
- 57:06Oh, interesting.
- 57:07I didn't get that.
- 57:07Rally Mart, Jackie Chan Rally Mart there.
- 57:09I found it.
- 57:10Really?
- 57:11Rally art normally.
- 57:11Rally art.
- 57:12Rally art?
- 57:12Yeah.
- 57:12It was a Mitsubishi thing.
- 57:14Oh, it was a rally art.
- 57:14Oh, okay.
- 57:15Yeah.
- 57:15Rally Mart.
- 57:18The guys, it's race time.
- 57:20Cougar calls his people and he is basically like, you
- 57:22know what, kill the girl.
- 57:24Okay, cool.
- 57:25They hang up the phone, turn around the corner.
- 57:27Oh, the fucking wall explodes.
- 57:29They're being raided or something, but we're never gonna see it 'cause
- 57:32we gotta get back to the race.
- 57:34Amy gives OCHO something to give to Jackie Chan for luck.
- 57:38And I'm like, okay.
- 57:39Also, I was like, Amy and Ocho definitely don't look like the sisters.
- 57:43It reminded me a lot of the, uh, the old Liz Taylor White Diamonds commercials.
- 57:47These have always brought me luck.
- 57:49Oh, yeah.
- 57:49Geez.
- 57:50And an anime, their hair would've been like pink and green and blue and purple.
- 57:54So we would've been able to tell them apart.
- 57:56Mm-hmm.
- 57:57But we don't get that.
- 57:58So then there's like a five minute scene of like, all right,
- 58:00everybody clear the track.
- 58:01Five minutes to go.
- 58:02Oh my God.
- 58:03Okay, we're down to four minutes.
- 58:04Only the drivers and the crew and maybe the cheerleaders.
- 58:07This was the obligatory bathing suit scene was this one.
- 58:10That's what this was all about.
- 58:11Yeah.
- 58:13Yeah, we had pit bull playing in the background.
- 58:15I a Mr. Worldwide.
- 58:18That's right.
- 58:18Okay.
- 58:19Three minutes now.
- 58:19Cheerleaders.
- 58:20Get the fuck outta here.
- 58:21We got Bri to two.
- 58:22So the restarts my, it's raining a little bit like, okay, cool, cool, cool.
- 58:26Here we go.
- 58:26We're, we're seeing a whole bunch of spin outs and then we
- 58:29get our, our first pit stop.
- 58:30The camera's going super fast.
- 58:32Like you can see it's sped up because the timer is shown for about 25
- 58:36seconds, but it says like a minute 30.
- 58:38I wrote it down one.
- 58:4019.8. Yep.
- 58:42Amy's like, oh, I'm gonna help Jackie.
- 58:43I'm gonna take him some water.
- 58:44Blah, blah, blah.
- 58:45Beep, beep, beep.
- 58:4632nd penalty for interference.
- 58:48And the picker's like, oh, you stupid bitch.
- 58:50Would you feel like that would be like the first thing they would've told her?
- 58:53Like, Hey, if you're gonna be down here, don't fucking interact with the driver.
- 58:56We get penalized.
- 58:58Nope.
- 58:58So yeah, we get to sit there for a full 30 seconds as like
- 59:00the other car's pulling out.
- 59:02Yeah.
- 59:02We get more racing, we get more pit stops.
- 59:04Let's not forget the pit board scene in the middle of this race.
- 59:08Oh my God.
- 59:08So now we get the big declaration of love because she makes
- 59:11them change the pit board.
- 59:13And Jackie almost crashes or goes off the track because he reads the pit board.
- 59:17Yes.
- 59:17But now he's suddenly, he's got all the enthusiasm, you know, to,
- 59:21to win the race and everything.
- 59:22Like what the what?
- 59:24Yeah.
- 59:25Uh, eventually Jackie smiles at Amy to cheer her up.
- 59:28Like, Hey look, having fun, see me smile.
- 59:31That was pit stop number 57.
- 59:33God, so many pit stops, right?
- 59:35Like, how long is this race?
- 59:36My God.
- 59:37I wrote down how long every pit stop took.
- 59:39Just wanna let you guys know in case you wanted to know how long they took.
- 59:42They got faster.
- 59:43Yeah.
- 59:43It was important that their pits, they got better.
- 59:46I don't know if we're just like speeding through the race scene and we're just
- 59:49gonna like get to the conclusion here, but I think we need to pause Oh boy.
- 59:53And reflect on the racing that was going on Uhhuh, because this was some bug.
- 59:58Wild shit.
- 59:59Yeah.
- 1:00:00So many crashes.
- 1:00:02So much cartoon level.
- 1:00:05I think my favorite crash because there was constantly crashes.
- 1:00:09I think my favorite crash was the one car, and I can't remember now which
- 1:00:15cars were which, but the one car like.
- 1:00:17He slides off the road, kind of hits a a sign, but then the
- 1:00:20next car comes and hits a sign.
- 1:00:22It literally just like hits the sign on the side of the track,
- 1:00:26nose up and just flips over.
- 1:00:29Yeah, yeah, yeah.
- 1:00:31God.
- 1:00:31Was that the one where it rode on top of the one car for a while?
- 1:00:35No, that was different.
- 1:00:36That was a different topic.
- 1:00:37Different one?
- 1:00:38Yeah.
- 1:00:38Yeah.
- 1:00:38The one where the one car was upside down on top of the other one was my favorite.
- 1:00:42'cause I was impressed.
- 1:00:43That was one shot where the car flipped, landed on top and the other
- 1:00:47guy kept driving before it slid off.
- 1:00:50Yes.
- 1:00:50Like I don't think that was planned necessarily, but like kudos to them.
- 1:00:55I was trying to figure out, and I haven't looked it up,
- 1:00:58were these legitimate quotes.
- 1:01:00Legitimate racing scenes?
- 1:01:02Or was there a blend of real?
- 1:01:04There was definitely real footage of like cars.
- 1:01:07I mean, there's some, but no, all, all the crashes and like the cars
- 1:01:10starting on fire and shit down.
- 1:01:11All those are all like stunts.
- 1:01:13No, no, no, no.
- 1:01:14Even like some of the handling of the cars was beyond physics.
- 1:01:18Like they shot off onto the grass and like made this like 45 degree turn
- 1:01:22and we're like back on the track and I'm like, were these matchbox cars?
- 1:01:26No really good quality.
- 1:01:28No, no, these are, these are thought motion Graham was talking about, it's
- 1:01:31like a lemons race is what it was.
- 1:01:32Yes.
- 1:01:33That's what I thought of.
- 1:01:34It was like lap two.
- 1:01:35It was like, my god, this is lemons.
- 1:01:37A hundred percent.
- 1:01:38A hundred percent.
- 1:01:38It was, to that point, I will say I enjoyed all the crashes.
- 1:01:42They were all really entertaining from the cars that caught on fire to
- 1:01:45the ones that ended up on the roofs.
- 1:01:47Oh.
- 1:01:47The other good one was like, he got like T-boned and the whole front end.
- 1:01:50Just like a Yeah.
- 1:01:52Oh yeah.
- 1:01:53That, that was the other 3000 gt.
- 1:01:55Yeah.
- 1:01:55Yeah.
- 1:01:55Yeah.
- 1:01:55They show that car at the end during the blooper reel where they're
- 1:01:58actually towing it out of there because the front end was gone.
- 1:02:01Yeah.
- 1:02:01To that point, there was some serious machinery on that racetrack.
- 1:02:05If you're a car person and you looked at, you had E 30 M threes.
- 1:02:10NS, X. Yeah.
- 1:02:11Mitsubishi of all types.
- 1:02:13Toyotas of all types.
- 1:02:14Supras like Nissan GTRs, R 30 threes.
- 1:02:18R 33 Skylines.
- 1:02:18Yeah.
- 1:02:19Mind blowing the machinery that they got for this.
- 1:02:22And I'm like, granted, the cars that they wrecked were like the Shitbox
- 1:02:25Corollas and stuff, and the Nissan Sentras and like all that garbage.
- 1:02:29So it was like, okay, fine.
- 1:02:31But there was some serious hardware out there on this racetrack, which super fun
- 1:02:35fact, they actually had to film this.
- 1:02:38In Hong Kong because at the time that they were making the movie, this
- 1:02:42was supposed to be at like Fuji or like Suzuka or something like that.
- 1:02:45They couldn't do it because at the time in Japan it was like way too rainy.
- 1:02:49So all those rain scenes you saw in the beginning of the movie were shot in Japan,
- 1:02:53and they were like, we can't race here.
- 1:02:54So they flew back to Hong Kong and they filmed this there.
- 1:02:58Oh, they mentioned that at the beginning of the race that uh, that it's raining.
- 1:03:01Yeah.
- 1:03:01That it's raining and it's gonna be a lot more slick.
- 1:03:03Yeah, yeah.
- 1:03:03But no, with actual, like making the movie, this was a
- 1:03:06problem that they encountered.
- 1:03:07Like they didn't want the race to be completely in the rain.
- 1:03:11All of the shooting moved from Japan over to Hong Kong.
- 1:03:14Nice.
- 1:03:14And yeah, basically I've written down the five laps left and
- 1:03:17then the, oh my God, whole thing turns into a goddamn demo derby.
- 1:03:20There were some days of thunder scenes.
- 1:03:23It was so good.
- 1:03:24It was so good.
- 1:03:24It was bonkers.
- 1:03:25It was like you said, it was buck wild.
- 1:03:29And then there was some BZA stuff going on in there too.
- 1:03:32Where he was like, I've seen this in video games.
- 1:03:34I know people that do this.
- 1:03:35That was Cougar's last move was like, fuck it, I'm going through the grass.
- 1:03:40Yeah.
- 1:03:40So, okay, so we get to the last lap, they're like neck and neck, Jackie Chan
- 1:03:44and Cougar, and they both start running into each other and they go running
- 1:03:47off the road into like some rocks.
- 1:03:49So I'm like gravel basically.
- 1:03:51And they're both stuck and try trying to get out woo woo and dig themselves out.
- 1:03:57But then Jackie Chan's able to get out but going in reverse and Cougar's
- 1:04:01coming forward, blah, blah, blah.
- 1:04:02Jackie Chan's reverse 40 miles an hour and then he pulls a fucking Rockford
- 1:04:09and his bumper crosses.
- 1:04:11First in a photo finished Jackie chant.
- 1:04:13Fucking wins.
- 1:04:15Woo.
- 1:04:16Roll credits.
- 1:04:17So then, uh, Cougar decides, fuck this, I gotta make a run for it.
- 1:04:20He pulls into his fit and uh, yeah.
- 1:04:22Yeah.
- 1:04:22His crew was like, there's no chance of winning now.
- 1:04:25Go, go, go.
- 1:04:27Where's he gonna go?
- 1:04:28He's on a racetrack.
- 1:04:29Yeah, exactly.
- 1:04:30Oh, so, so when he takes off a Jackie chance starts chasing him.
- 1:04:33That was my first thought was, you know, this is a circle right guys.
- 1:04:38It's like, wait a minute, it'll be back in about a minute 30.
- 1:04:41You know, there's some good pyrotechnics in that scene though.
- 1:04:45It was awesome.
- 1:04:45Yeah.
- 1:04:46Oh, I was gonna say, yeah.
- 1:04:46Yeah, Jackie and chase him down.
- 1:04:47Like, where's my sister?
- 1:04:48Where's my sister?
- 1:04:49You set up a bitch and then basically he like jumps the car and as everyone down
- 1:04:54he goes through the fireworks factory.
- 1:04:56'cause there's a bunch of sparklers going off the back of it.
- 1:04:58Yes.
- 1:04:58But Cougar crashes and there's a fire and uh, you are like, help, help, help.
- 1:05:03And of course, Jackie Chan saves him 'cause he is the good guy.
- 1:05:05Yeah.
- 1:05:06But of course he's also like, where is she?
- 1:05:08Or you die.
- 1:05:09And then, you know, the cops show up and they're like, it's okay,
- 1:05:11Jackie, in a completely separate movie, we saved your sister.
- 1:05:14The cops who've done nothing in this movie have finally, uh, done something.
- 1:05:18My name's Steve Cannon.
- 1:05:19I'm the real hero of this movie.
- 1:05:20Did you not get the phone calls that I said where I said I, I called
- 1:05:23and said, we have your sister.
- 1:05:24You check your pager so the sister's free.
- 1:05:26We go back to the winner circle.
- 1:05:28The whole family's been saved.
- 1:05:29Yay.
- 1:05:30Amy, uh, jumps on Jackie Chan and they fall down awkwardly.
- 1:05:33That was a fun little acrobatic stunt that was like, they practiced that
- 1:05:37like, you know, they did on a screen.
- 1:05:39Oh, yeah.
- 1:05:39Seen that move, you know, the legs and the momentum and the yin yang thing.
- 1:05:43It was, it was good.
- 1:05:44It was cute.
- 1:05:45There you go.
- 1:05:45And then just like a quick little peck of a kiss.
- 1:05:48Roll credits and then we get outtakes of car crashes and, uh, Jackie Chan
- 1:05:52trying to run up the wall with a broken ankle and trampoline, high
- 1:05:56jinks and guys wearing short shorts.
- 1:05:59There's some good outtakes in there.
- 1:06:00Jackie was wearing short shorts in one of the scenes.
- 1:06:02Oh yeah, yeah.
- 1:06:04Even Tom Selleck was like, Jackie, what?
- 1:06:06Cheeks?
- 1:06:07Like, dude, those shorts are a little too short.
- 1:06:09It was the nineties.
- 1:06:11See what NBA players were wearing back then?
- 1:06:12But yeah, guys, that's Thunderbolt.
- 1:06:14This was shorter than the actual movie, right?
- 1:06:16Well, we cut those racing montages down to like two minutes.
- 1:06:21So, yeah.
- 1:06:22Would, uh, uh, Brad, would you, would you recommend Thunderbolt?
- 1:06:25No.
- 1:06:25What, who do I recommend it to?
- 1:06:27Better or worse than the stuntman wearing the hierarchy of movies?
- 1:06:31How can we even compare this to stuntman?
- 1:06:33It was entertaining it.
- 1:06:34I don't know anybody that would enjoy watching this as much as.
- 1:06:39Eric did.
- 1:06:40I would recommend it to Eric, but he's already seen it, so watch
- 1:06:43it again because he owns it now.
- 1:06:45I recommend Eric watches it again.
- 1:06:47No, I, I just, people in my circles would not understand.
- 1:06:50I don't even understand it.
- 1:06:51So they definitely wouldn't underst That's what subtitles for.
- 1:06:52Well, no, we, you could watch it in English on voodoo.
- 1:06:54The dubbing was actually not terrible.
- 1:06:56That's what, not talking about that.
- 1:06:57I'm talking about the just the WA of whatever it is, the plot.
- 1:07:03No, I see your point, Brad, because I think it is hard to recommend.
- 1:07:08What I call kung fu action theater type of movie versus like some
- 1:07:12of the action films of today.
- 1:07:14Yeah.
- 1:07:14A a kung fu racing movie.
- 1:07:15It's bizarre, right?
- 1:07:17But it is a fun movie.
- 1:07:18I'm gonna say that.
- 1:07:19But anyway, Tanya, what do you, sorry.
- 1:07:20No offense.
- 1:07:21It's just way better than the stuntman.
- 1:07:23Yeah, the stuntman was trash.
- 1:07:24This, this is better than the stuntman.
- 1:07:26Still can't believe you guys.
- 1:07:27That's like the bottom of the barrel is the stuntman for you.
- 1:07:30It's not senior moment.
- 1:07:31It's not the stupid ass Lamborghini biopic or whatever.
- 1:07:35I didn't want, so.
- 1:07:36And I would watch this again over Highway to Hell.
- 1:07:39Oh God, yes.
- 1:07:40Oh my.
- 1:07:40Or Corvette Summer.
- 1:07:41Corvette.
- 1:07:42Summer was trash too.
- 1:07:43You know what, I'm right there with you guys.
- 1:07:44I'm gonna go out on a limb and I'm gonna say this movie might might top the fall
- 1:07:52guy for the best movie we've watched.
- 1:07:54What?
- 1:07:55No, you're an idiot.
- 1:07:56Okay.
- 1:07:56You're an okay.
- 1:07:58Somebody.
- 1:07:58Please turn off his mic.
- 1:07:59I don't know why he wants to say that.
- 1:08:02Come on.
- 1:08:02The Sandman at the Apollo.
- 1:08:03Please come and take Eric away.
- 1:08:05Exit stage left.
- 1:08:07Come on Dave, how about you?
- 1:08:08Where uh, would you recommend this one?
- 1:08:10Yeah, I would definitely recommend this is, I really, really
- 1:08:13enjoyed this movie quite a bit.
- 1:08:14Thank you.
- 1:08:14Thank you.
- 1:08:15I too enjoyed this movie.
- 1:08:16And I would actually put it up there in the higher tier, not above the fall guy.
- 1:08:19'cause that's fucking ridiculous.
- 1:08:21No, but above most of the other stuff.
- 1:08:23Just because guys, there's Jackie Chan shit in this and I fucking love it.
- 1:08:27Thank you.
- 1:08:28Dictate shit.
- 1:08:28And there's, and there's the stuff as ridiculous as it is, the home
- 1:08:31demolition in the middle of it, the containers and all that shit.
- 1:08:34That shit is awesome.
- 1:08:36That shit's so good.
- 1:08:37And it's real.
- 1:08:37No cg, none of that shit because it's in Hong Kong.
- 1:08:40Yeah.
- 1:08:40They don't fuck around there.
- 1:08:42This is real shit.
- 1:08:43Pachinko, the Pachinko ball scene alone Yes.
- 1:08:47Is worth watching this movie.
- 1:08:48Thousand percent.
- 1:08:49But I will say this, it is not the best Jackie Chan movie.
- 1:08:53No, no.
- 1:08:53But compared to the catalog of things that we have reviewed
- 1:08:56together, this is pretty damn good.
- 1:08:58Absolutely.
- 1:08:59Like it may not even be the best Jackie Chan movie that year.
- 1:09:01Right.
- 1:09:02But it's still pretty dang good.
- 1:09:03Yeah, yeah, yeah.
- 1:09:05Well, damn, on that note, we're gonna take quick commercial break.
- 1:09:06Oh.
- 1:09:07But when we come back.
- 1:09:09Beer, what fun facts and what we learned from Thunderbolt Thunderbolt.
- 1:09:18Thanks Tom Jones.

- 1:10:54Oh, she said it.
- 1:10:55They get better every week.
- 1:10:57Well, guys, would any of you be interested in any fun facts about this movie?
- 1:11:01Yes, of course.
- 1:11:03Only if they're fun facts.
- 1:11:04Super fun facts.
- 1:11:05'cause of fun.
- 1:11:06Fun facts.
- 1:11:07Let's go.
- 1:11:07All right, guys.
- 1:11:08Rotten Tomatoes, no critic reviews, which is.
- 1:11:11Odd, but what do we think that audience score is?
- 1:11:14I can't comment 'cause I saw it.
- 1:11:16No, I'm biased.
- 1:11:18It would be 110%.
- 1:11:21Real number.
- 1:11:2242%. I was gonna say real number is probably like 68.
- 1:11:26Gonna be 69.
- 1:11:28I think Brad's the closest 55 with the audience.
- 1:11:33Pretty close to us here.
- 1:11:34Three positives into uh, what the hell are you talking about?
- 1:11:38Dan Votes in ab Absentia.
- 1:11:39He says This's a good movie.
- 1:11:41There we go.
- 1:11:42No, there were no Chevrolets in it.
- 1:11:44I bet he found one.
- 1:11:45There was a caprice in the background somewhere.
- 1:11:47Oh, there we go.
- 1:11:48So I looked up the budget for this movie and it said it was
- 1:11:512 billion Hong Kong dollars.
- 1:11:53Okay.
- 1:11:53And I put that through converter thing.
- 1:11:55How much do you think that is nowadays?
- 1:11:572 billion US dollars.
- 1:12:01It was 2 billion Hong Kong dollars.
- 1:12:032 billion Hong Kong dollars 1991 converted to, you know, 25 US dollars.
- 1:12:08There's a lot of math for 90.
- 1:12:10Yeah, sorry.
- 1:12:10Oh, I was gonna say it took four years to come to market.
- 1:12:13That's a long time.
- 1:12:13No, sorry.
- 1:12:14Yeah.
- 1:12:14Yeah.
- 1:12:1495 to 2025 it said $250 million.
- 1:12:18That can't be right.
- 1:12:19Well, with adjusted for inflation, that would be like thunderbolts,
- 1:12:22a K, a new Avengers type money.
- 1:12:24Yeah, I could see that with as many, but it's like, okay, maybe they meant 2
- 1:12:28million Hong Kong dollars, but definitely more than a quarter million dollars.
- 1:12:31Yeah, 250,000.
- 1:12:32So it's like, I don't know how much it costs, but obviously there was
- 1:12:35a lot of stunts and stuff involved.
- 1:12:37Jackie Chan doesn't roll outta bed for less than 20 million.
- 1:12:39Well, back then, but, but he is like Hong Kong's number one guy at that point.
- 1:12:44Right.
- 1:12:45So it wouldn't surprise me that he could command that kind of budget with all the
- 1:12:49cars that were involved and all the steer point, all the stunts and everything else.
- 1:12:52Like, I'm trying to think, mid nineties like yeah, that was when Schwarzenegger
- 1:12:55was getting like 20 mil a movie and stuff.
- 1:12:57But would that be Jackie Chan for an Asian production?
- 1:13:01Maybe $250 million.
- 1:13:03But it doesn't pop up on, like, this movie isn't discussed with
- 1:13:06Water World, you know what I mean?
- 1:13:07Like $200 million to make that or whatever.
- 1:13:10But uh, what other fun facts we got, the original title is pick lick foe
- 1:13:15Saw, which I assume is Mandarin.
- 1:13:17For Thunderbolt.
- 1:13:18I don't know.
- 1:13:20Jackie Chan suffered a broken ankle while filming Rumble in the Bronx,
- 1:13:24so stunt doubles were used for most of the fight scenes in this movie.
- 1:13:27This was a big thing for Chan, who was always known for doing all his own stunts,
- 1:13:32but you know, broken Ankle, $250 million budget, can't push it back anymore.
- 1:13:36I couldn't tell.
- 1:13:37Could you tell that he was.
- 1:13:38Suffering on a broken ankle?
- 1:13:39No.
- 1:13:40Like I said, not until that end cut scene when he was climbing up
- 1:13:42the wall, it was like, huh, he's got a little bit of a limp there.
- 1:13:45Yeah.
- 1:13:46The rain in Japan kept the climactic race scenes from being filmed
- 1:13:48there, uh, like you're saying.
- 1:13:49So they had to move to Malaysia to film them.
- 1:13:51However, a problem occurred when the Malaysian government became worried that
- 1:13:54people would get hurt during filming.
- 1:13:55So the race was filmed at regular speed and sped up during post-production.
- 1:13:59Okay, that makes sense then how they could pull off some of these.
- 1:14:03Yeah, yeah.
- 1:14:03Like going off in the grass and then immediately coming back in.
- 1:14:05Yeah, it was, you couldn't tell that it was sped up.
- 1:14:07Certain parts of it did look sped up.
- 1:14:10Oh yeah.
- 1:14:10Yes.
- 1:14:10Super cartoony.
- 1:14:11Exactly.
- 1:14:12It's fantastic.
- 1:14:13And guys, that opening theme song that's in Cantonese at the beginning Yes.
- 1:14:17And it did.
- 1:14:17The Mandarin in the end was sung by the one and only.
- 1:14:21Jacqueline Onassis Chan.
- 1:14:23Yeah, Jackie Chan.
- 1:14:24It was also written by Jackie Chan.
- 1:14:25That was in my Oh, written by him as well.
- 1:14:27Yes.
- 1:14:27Yes.
- 1:14:28Written and performed by Jackie Chan.
- 1:14:30So he is on the soundtrack too.
- 1:14:31Does it all.
- 1:14:32That's why it's 250 million.
- 1:14:33He's gotta do all of it.
- 1:14:35He's gotta earn that $50 million he's getting.
- 1:14:38Yeah.
- 1:14:38That's where the money went, went to his singing rights and his acting.
- 1:14:41And that's what makes this movie even more special if you think about it.
- 1:14:45So you're saying the opening song to this, uh, movie is basically the Mariah Carey.
- 1:14:49All I Want for Christmas is you over in Hong Kong.
- 1:14:52Yes.
- 1:14:52Yes.
- 1:14:53It comes out every year.
- 1:14:54He just gets those royalty checks.
- 1:14:55Yes.
- 1:14:55Coming through.
- 1:14:56He's like Jose Feliciano.
- 1:14:58It's.
- 1:14:58Brilliant.
- 1:14:58Yeah.
- 1:14:58There we go.
- 1:15:00Fel
- 1:15:04Fel.
- 1:15:06Except for that stupid.
- 1:15:07Oh, can't stand that Beatles song.
- 1:15:12My God's
- 1:15:18so so bad.
- 1:15:20Bye.
- 1:15:21So every time for Christmas?
- 1:15:24No, no.
- 1:15:25Having worked at, uh, Macy's for several years, the department store,
- 1:15:29and having worked Black Fridays, I haven't worked there in about a
- 1:15:32decade now, and we only just now led have Christmas music in the house.
- 1:15:37Hey, Santa?
- 1:15:39Oh, no, no, no.
- 1:15:40Not, Hey, Santa Sung by Harley Quinn.
- 1:15:43No, no, no.
- 1:15:43Nothing like that.
- 1:15:44No.
- 1:15:44You heard that song when I worked at Macy's?
- 1:15:46Yeah, that's exactly how it sounds.
- 1:15:48It is, yeah.
- 1:15:48I, I dunno.
- 1:15:50Anyway, only necking coal out in this house.
- 1:15:52Yeah.
- 1:15:53But we wish the most important part.
- 1:15:55What did we learn from Thunder?
- 1:15:59Ty, would you like to go first?
- 1:16:00I learned as a result of watching the movie and looking up some
- 1:16:05facts about it, I learned that that movie is what started a.
- 1:16:10Collaboration and partnership between Jackie Chan and Mitsubishi to the point
- 1:16:16that 10 years later they made a limited production 50 car counts special edition
- 1:16:22Mitsubishi Lancer for Jackie Chan.
- 1:16:26Oh shit.
- 1:16:28Partnered fax Cardax card.
- 1:16:34Bless you, Brad.
- 1:16:34He learned that fall guy is still better.
- 1:16:39I, I learned that you can do live action stop motion film apparently, and have
- 1:16:47a four hour scene in a two hour movie.
- 1:16:51I thought you would've doubled down on your love and appreciation for Jackie
- 1:16:55Chan and Jackie Chan racing, as we saw in LMP two many years ago at Lamont.
- 1:16:59I mean, Jackie Chan sponsored a race team for crying out loud.
- 1:17:03Yeah, Jackie Chan really art, but I learned that before this movie.
- 1:17:06That's right.
- 1:17:06See, that's what I learned was about the Jackie Chan race team.
- 1:17:09I didn't, I didn't know anything about that.
- 1:17:10What'd you learn, Izzy?
- 1:17:11I learned that a race car can travel a number of feet with
- 1:17:15another race car on top of it, and like sustain very little damage.
- 1:17:19I also learned that pachinko balls are just kept in a big bin
- 1:17:24above the gambling house casino and could be dropped at any time.
- 1:17:28But they choose not to drop like balloons at a birthday party.
- 1:17:32I wanna unpack that with you at some other point.
- 1:17:34There are many questions about the Pachinko balls that I have,
- 1:17:37but I, I learned about that through you guys, so that's good.
- 1:17:39Yeah.
- 1:17:40You're gonna have to come out and play Pachinko, but that's not what I learned.
- 1:17:43I had to double down on something Brad said, and you mentioned it
- 1:17:46a couple times already, I learned that you can successfully create a
- 1:17:51two hour live action anime movie.
- 1:17:55This movie proves it.
- 1:17:57There are so many tropes, so many scenes, so many things that this
- 1:18:01is an anime with real people.
- 1:18:03It's bonkers and buck wild.
- 1:18:05I loved everything about it.
- 1:18:06Yeah.
- 1:18:08I mentioned that to you when I first saw the, I guess it was the mechanics,
- 1:18:12like when they were going through the rally art school or whatever.
- 1:18:14Yeah.
- 1:18:15And the song that was playing, I was like, this is an anime.
- 1:18:17Yeah.
- 1:18:17Well, no, I had already had that in my note by the time you told
- 1:18:20me that, so I was like, we were on the same wavelength there.
- 1:18:23Yeah.
- 1:18:23Nice.
- 1:18:24Thunder Bull.
- 1:18:25I'm so glad we did this.
- 1:18:26Why did we wait so long?
- 1:18:27Absolutely.
- 1:18:28Yeah.
- 1:18:28Thanks for bringing this to my attention.
- 1:18:30I had never heard of this movie.
- 1:18:31What's our next challenge gonna be?
- 1:18:33Biker Boys.
- 1:18:34Oh, I'm down for Biker Boys.
- 1:18:35We already talked about it on our podcast.
- 1:18:37Brad hasn't picked a movie, has he?
- 1:18:39I, I have not picked a movie, which is it gonna be Biker Boys?
- 1:18:42Or Torque?
- 1:18:42Or Torque, yeah.
- 1:18:44Yeah.
- 1:18:45Biker Boys, Lawrence Fishburn.
- 1:18:47Come on now.
- 1:18:47What's the other one about?
- 1:18:48Same thing, motorcycle dudes.
- 1:18:50I don't know, but it's got, uh, Peter F or whatever his name is.
- 1:18:53So do we wanna double down and compare the two and double feature?
- 1:18:57Well, since Steve and Izzy have already reviewed Oh, we've done both of 'em.
- 1:19:01We did during Double Ger Month because they came out like less than a year Apart.
- 1:19:04Yes.
- 1:19:05Ah, and they're basically the same movie.
- 1:19:06We could compare them and see the good, the bad, the indifferent dude.
- 1:19:09Yeah.
- 1:19:10Like the Fall guy and stuntman.
- 1:19:11No.
- 1:19:12Yeah.
- 1:19:12That's never gonna happen.
- 1:19:13Yeah.
- 1:19:14I'm down.
- 1:19:14I got copies.
- 1:19:16All right.
- 1:19:16All right.
- 1:19:17We'll get Mountain Man Danning on that one.
- 1:19:18Yeah.
- 1:19:20Oh, well you, you were telling me, I, I heard somewhere around the
- 1:19:23way that you guys have a podcast.
- 1:19:24Is that correct?
- 1:19:25Four 12?
- 1:19:25Yeah, something like that.
- 1:19:26Oh, okay.
- 1:19:27Like a whole network of them?
- 1:19:28We do, we do.

- 1:19:44of, called Formula Fanatic.
- 1:19:46So stay tuned for that throughout the rest of 2026.
- 1:19:50Excellent.
- 1:19:50Anything else you guys wanna plug?
- 1:19:51Brad?
- 1:19:52Tanya, you got your own solo projects you got going on?
- 1:19:54Yeah, I'm writing an album that you were writing a book.
- 1:19:57Yeah, that's like 20 years from now that'll be be out.
- 1:20:01So it's a little early to start the marketing for that.
- 1:20:03It's never too early.
