- 0:00SPEAKER_00: Welcome back to the No Time to Waste Podcast Studio.
- 0:03SPEAKER_00: I'm your guide, Marcus Murray, and I just want to welcome you.
- 0:07SPEAKER_00: You are in one of the best places of your life at this point.
- 0:10SPEAKER_00: You've made it to the second half.
- 0:12SPEAKER_00: You know, if life only has the four quarters, you've got two down, two to go, there's still an opportunity to win.
- 0:20SPEAKER_00: The best is yet to come, and the future is absolutely bright.
- 0:24SPEAKER_00: But there are some things today that I do need you to consider.
- 0:28SPEAKER_00: In particular, it's around identity.
- 0:31SPEAKER_00: You know, when you've carried a title, an identity, that people have come to know you, you're you're this, you're a counselor, and they know that you're a great counselor, and everyone just wants you to do counseling, or you are a, I'm trying to think, a therapist, and they know you're a great therapist, and everyone knows that you're a great therapist, and they just keep sending you more and more therapy clients.
- 0:57SPEAKER_00: You can actually find yourself trapped where your identity becomes awe-consuming.
- 1:05SPEAKER_00: It's almost like being uh a dentist, and then everyone that sees you, the only thing they want to talk about is their teeth and their dental problems and their dental issues and all of their dental uh hiccups and all the things that have gone wrong and the number of feeling, feelings, and uh every bad episode they've had with a different dentist.
- 1:26SPEAKER_00: It's just like overloading the way people will find out what it is that you do as a profession and actually lock your entire identity into that.
- 1:37SPEAKER_00: So you're no longer a person, you are a whatever that thing is.
- 1:42SPEAKER_00: I want to challenge you with that because many of us have carried identity so long that we actually believe we're that instead of the person that we actually are.
- 1:56SPEAKER_00: You as a person are far greater than the position that you actually hold.
- 2:03SPEAKER_00: And actually, this can become probably one of the greatest obstacles to change in our lives, embracing the position, the title where we actually believe we're that.
- 2:18SPEAKER_00: But do you know, kids, uh, and this is why I love kids, kids are brilliant.
- 2:24SPEAKER_00: Um, a very dear friend of mine is a pastor very in a very elevated position, but he's also a grandpa.
- 2:32SPEAKER_00: And what's amazing is um the kids don't call him pastor, they call him papa.
- 2:40SPEAKER_00: And what's amazing about that is papa is not pastor, he's papa.
- 2:47SPEAKER_00: And because of that, it's it creates a normalcy where when he's with his grandchildren, he just gets to enjoy and be a person and not have to carry the burden of the title, if that makes sense.
- 3:04SPEAKER_00: I just want to challenge you that your biggest obstacle may be not that you don't know what's next or that you need to pivot.
- 3:15SPEAKER_00: The biggest obstacle could be the title that's holding us back.
- 3:20SPEAKER_00: And I want to challenge you that possibly sometimes, not all times, but sometimes we have to release the expectations of a title so that we can embrace our next.
- 3:42SPEAKER_00: Many times, our position, our history, our prior accomplishments, and the pride of the life that we've created will cause us to avoid an opportunity that could transform our futures forever in a positive way.
- 4:01SPEAKER_00: But we avoid it for fear of relinquishing the title, the social position.
- 4:08SPEAKER_00: I want to challenge you that just maybe in activating your next, it's going to require releasing the chains that have held us in position, in those positions that we were given or that were placed upon us.
- 4:28SPEAKER_00: Remember, you've got more to give.
- 4:32SPEAKER_00: And we're at the beginning of the second half, and you can do this.
- 4:37SPEAKER_00: Activating your next requires your decision because there's no time to waste.
- 4:44SPEAKER_00: I'll see you on the next episode.
- 4:46SPEAKER_00: Take care.
