- 0:01Luke chapter 8 Let us pray. Dear Heavenly Father, here we
- 0:07are again. We're coming to learn from you.
- 0:12We're coming to be taught by you.
- 0:14Help us to hide your words in our heart so that we might not
- 0:18sin against you. Father, I pray for revelation
- 0:21today. God, I pray that you'll reveal
- 0:24more of your Son to us. God, I pray that we can become
- 0:28more like Christ today than we were yesterday.
- 0:31Help us, Father, to get out of our own way.
- 0:33Help us, Father, to know that you're near.
- 0:35Help us, Father, to know that we have stayed our mind upon you.
- 0:41God, lead us in peace. God, lead us in perfect peace.
- 0:45God take us from glory to glory. Father, help us to stiff arm all
- 0:50the things of this world, the cares and the anxieties of this
- 0:54world. God, and help us to lock eyes
- 0:57with you. Help us to put our hand to the
- 0:59plow and not look back. Father, we need, we are
- 1:03desperate for a touch from you. God, we want to hear from you
- 1:06today. Hide me and hide my words and
- 1:09hide my thoughts. Holy Spirit, you take center
- 1:13stage. Holy Spirit, you give us our
- 1:17marching orders. Holy Spirit, you give us the
- 1:20direction and teach us today. I decrease as you increase.
- 1:25Holy Spirit, we love you, Jesus Christ, we love you.
- 1:29Thank you, Father, for all the many blessings that you're
- 1:32pouring out upon us today. The breath and our lungs, the
- 1:36heartbeat in our chest, our cognition.
- 1:39Father, we thank you, God, that you have given us a life worth
- 1:42living, that you have given us purpose and dignity.
- 1:45God, take us to new heights. Lord, see us there with you in
- 1:50heavenly places. And God give us the mind of
- 1:53Christ and help us to know what it it is that we are to do
- 1:57today. Thank you, Father, for
- 1:59everything. We love you, King Jesus, and
- 2:02it's in your holy and precious, strong and powerful name that I
- 2:07pray. Amen.
- 2:10Let's start in verse one. And it came to pass afterward
- 2:16that he went throughout every city and village preaching and
- 2:20showing the glad tidings of the Kingdom of God.
- 2:24And the 12 were with him. So you can see here that
- 2:27ultimately Jesus is coming to proclaim the Kingdom of God.
- 2:31He's telling them that the Kingdom of God is at hand.
- 2:34And what glad tidings are these? And look how He goes round and
- 2:39about, and look how He is going, and showing them that they need
- 2:45to repent and to be baptized, and that there is no salvation
- 2:50apart from Him. You can see that the 12 were
- 2:53with Him, and they were watching every single thing, and
- 2:56recording it for us. For all time's sake.
- 2:59And heaven and earth shall pass away.
- 3:01But not one of these words. Friends.
- 3:03Verse 2 And certain women which which have been healed of evil
- 3:08spirits and infirmities, Mary called Magdalene, out of whom
- 3:13went seven devils. Imagine that.
- 3:17Can you imagine what kind of stir there must have been to see
- 3:21these women following Jesus around and especially this one
- 3:27who was of ill report. Look at how Jesus was never
- 3:35afraid of being tainted. Look at how he never condoned
- 3:41sin, but he was able to drive it out.
- 3:45And look at how he was completely relaxed and there was
- 3:49no sin in him. And look at how Jesus doesn't
- 3:54look upon the outward things, but he sees the inner motives
- 3:59and he knows what it is that we desperately need.
- 4:02And we need a touch from him today.
- 4:04And we need to be cured and cleansed.
- 4:06We need to be made whole in this Mary Magdalene.
- 4:10She was so incredibly thankful for him.
- 4:14And they left everything to come and follow this rogue St.
- 4:19Preacher. This band of unlearned men and
- 4:23look at how these women were there to minister to them,
- 4:27praise God, Hallelujah. Even this verse 3 and Joanna,
- 4:32the wife of Choosa, Herod, Stewart and Susanna and many
- 4:36others which ministered unto them of their substance.
- 4:40Even this Joanna look at how she's connected somehow through
- 4:47up to Herod and look at how she saw the ministry of Jesus
- 4:52Christ. She believed in the ministry of
- 4:55Jesus Christ so much as to help to minister to them for their
- 5:02needs. Praise God for these women for
- 5:05and when much people were gathered together and were come
- 5:09to him out of every city. He spoke by a parable.
- 5:13We know that Jesus, he loved to speaking parables.
- 5:19He would cast right along some things that were familiar with
- 5:22them and if you wanted to learn, if you wanted to lock in, if you
- 5:27wanted to engage, then you could see yourself in these parables.
- 5:33We know that He spoke them so that those who were
- 5:36disinterested would check out and they would never engage and
- 5:40what it is that He was saying. But those whom they were for
- 5:44they would actually engage and lock in, and they would actually
- 5:48start listening to all of His words and reasoning with
- 5:53themselves, and they would go into these parables and see the
- 5:57error of their ways. 5A Sower went out to sow his seed, and as
- 6:03he sowed, some fell by the wayside, and it was trodden
- 6:06down, and the fowls of the air devoured it. 6 And some fell
- 6:10upon a rock, and as soon as it was sprung up, it withered away,
- 6:14because it lacked moisture. 7 And some fell among thorns, and
- 6:19the thorns sprang up with it and choked it. 8 And other fell on
- 6:24good ground, sprang up, and bore fruit a hundredfold.
- 6:30And when he had said these things, he cried.
- 6:33He that has ears to hear, let him hear.
- 6:37Can you hear him today, friends? Can you hear him calling out?
- 6:42Can you hear the Lord crying out?
- 6:44He's saying, If you have ears to hear and if you have eyes to
- 6:51see, then you must see that we have to be the soil that
- 6:57produces much fruit, friends, we need to be the fertile soil.
- 7:06We need to break up the fallow ground so that the seed, which
- 7:09is the word of God, will come in and take up root and actually
- 7:16produce a crop and produce a harvest. 9 And his disciples
- 7:24asked him, saying, What might this parable be?
- 7:2810 And he said unto you, It is given to know the mysteries of
- 7:32the Kingdom of God, but to others in parables, that seeing
- 7:36they may, they might not see, and hearing they might not
- 7:39understand. So here we can see that He
- 7:43intentionally concealed these from those whom they were not.
- 7:49For you know, in a moment's notice at, at the breath of the
- 7:55Lord, every single human being on planet earth could become a
- 8:01believer, right this very 2nd. And you might ask yourself,
- 8:06well, if God can make every single person here, then why
- 8:10doesn't he? And it is because we have become
- 8:14hostile towards God. We've made, we have made a love
- 8:17decision for this world and we care nothing for the things of
- 8:21God other than just escaping damnation in hell.
- 8:26And we want to be able to live our lives, however we want to be
- 8:30able to live our lives. And we just want to know just
- 8:34enough about God to not have to go to hell.
- 8:38But we like our life down here and we're not willing to give it
- 8:44up. We're not willing to sell
- 8:46everything and take up our cross and follow him.
- 8:50And that is what it takes, friends.
- 8:52To truly be sold out and to be a disciple of Jesus Christ means
- 8:57that you hold everything loosely and that you can actually hear
- 9:02Him when He's calling out to you.
- 9:04And when He says come, you do not tuck tail and revert and go
- 9:10back into your nice little cushy, comfortable life.
- 9:14It is by being sold out to the King of Kings and the Lord of
- 9:18Lords, faithful and true, that we will find the abundant life.
- 9:23Friends. 11 Now the parable is this.
- 9:30The seed is the word of God. He's talking to them like little
- 9:35children. He's telling them the things
- 9:38that they should have been able to reason and to think about.
- 9:41But Jesus is so kind. He makes it as plain as the nose
- 9:46on your face. He makes it as plain as humanly
- 9:49possible. He talks to us in ways that we
- 9:54can understand. He tells us the most simple
- 9:58ways, friends, but we try to marginalized it and we say,
- 10:03well, that's not actually what he meant.
- 10:05And it is not about the interpretation of God's Word.
- 10:09It is about the obedience to God's Word which is flown out of
- 10:15a love for Him. If you love Jesus Christ, it
- 10:18will be easy to obey these words, and we will not call all
- 10:22of them into question and try to sit around and discuss and
- 10:27dispute all the meanings of the Word of God.
- 10:30Let's obey them. And if you want to know the
- 10:33unrevealed will of God, you must obey the revealed will of God.
- 10:37And He cannot make it any more plain.
- 10:39He cannot make it any more clear than the 66 books that are
- 10:44contained within the Bible, friends.
- 10:47From Genesis to Revelation, the inerrant, infallible word of
- 10:51God, nothing taken out and nothing added.
- 10:54It is simple, friends. It's a simple gospel.
- 10:58And Jesus is the way, the truth and the life.
- 11:02And no one comes unto the Father except through him.
- 11:05And you must be born again, Friends. 12 Those by the wayside
- 11:15are they that hear. Then comes the devil, and takes
- 11:19away the word out of their hearts, lest they should believe
- 11:24and be saved. Think about that for a second.
- 11:26The Word of God goes out and it goes on to the hard ground, and
- 11:30the birds of the air come and snatch it, and that is the
- 11:35devil. How many times have you seen
- 11:38somebody receive the Word of God as if it was going to take root?
- 11:42But immediately all of the cares of this world, all the
- 11:49distractions of this world, all the cultural pulls of this world
- 11:55come in and drag that person away before they can even take
- 12:01root. And so you can see this
- 12:04happening all around you, the person who is trying to believe.
- 12:08But there's so many questions and they have been sold so many
- 12:13lies. And they'll tell you things like
- 12:16the Bible was written by man and that religion is the thing that
- 12:20has started the most wars in the world.
- 12:23They will tell you so many different reasons that the earth
- 12:27is billions of years old, and that this is just a bunch of
- 12:31fairy tales, And that is whenever the devil has snatched
- 12:37the word of God out of their hearts. 13 They on the rock are
- 12:44they which when they hear, they receive the word with joy, and
- 12:49these have no root, which for a while believe, and in time of
- 12:55temptation they fall away. So these are the ones, friends,
- 13:00who they might go to a revival, they might go to camp, they
- 13:07might go to a church because they were invited.
- 13:11And they get there and through an emotional pull, they think
- 13:15that they should follow the Lord and they might even try to make
- 13:18a decision. But then as soon as temptation
- 13:22comes, as soon as persecution comes, as soon as hard times
- 13:26come, as soon as they pray about something and God doesn't behave
- 13:30in the way that they need him to, they fall away and they're
- 13:33offended by him, Friends. And there is no substance, there
- 13:36is no deep roots in these people.
- 13:40They were built on shallow ground and their faith was
- 13:43shallow, friends. And it is because of a fence
- 13:47that they fall away. It is because of all of the
- 13:50temptations that they fall away. And they could not see the worth
- 13:55in finishing strong. They could not see the worth in
- 13:59finishing well. They could not see the worth in
- 14:02running this race to the end. And they chose to go back to
- 14:08their menial lives. They chose to go back to their
- 14:12understanding of how this world works, which is all centered
- 14:16around power and greed and money.
- 14:18And the way that this world works is all about pleasure and
- 14:22pleasantries. And the way that this world
- 14:24works is that you can have your glory now with no suffering.
- 14:29And that is not the way of God, friends, and it is the blood of
- 14:34the martyr. That's the seed of the gospel.
- 14:37We should never forget that. 14 And that which fell among thorns
- 14:43are they which, when they have heard, they go forth, and are
- 14:46choked with cares and riches and pleasures of this life, and
- 14:51bring no fruit to perfection. So we can see that these tares
- 14:55that come up and choke us out. This is what happens whenever
- 15:00people choose to be wealthy and to have so many pleasures in
- 15:07this life. And as they see all their bills
- 15:13piling up, as they see all of the costs of goods going up, and
- 15:19as they see all of the things that are available to them in
- 15:23this world, they turn their back on God.
- 15:26They care nothing for the church.
- 15:28They care nothing for the word of God.
- 15:30They're not doing the things that God has asked them to do
- 15:34and it their conscience is bothering them and they don't
- 15:40open the word of God anymore because they're not living a
- 15:44life that is pleasing to God. And they're getting choked out
- 15:48by the spirit of oppression. And it's such a squeezing.
- 15:54And they bear no fruit. Friends. 15 But that on the good
- 16:00ground are they, which in an honest and good heart, having
- 16:03heard the word, keep it and bring forth fruit with patience.
- 16:07That is what we are called. 2 friends.
- 16:10And it sounds good when we read those things to put ourselves in
- 16:15that place. And I pray to God that you are
- 16:18in that place. I pray that you're the good
- 16:21ground. I pray that you're making an
- 16:24honest living. I pray that you have a good
- 16:27heart and you can see the world around you the way that God
- 16:30does, That you can see the people all around you the way
- 16:33that God does. I pray that when you hear the
- 16:35word, that you keep the word. I pray that when you hear the
- 16:39word, you bring forth good fruit which calls for patience.
- 16:44Friends, that is what we must do.
- 16:47We must be patient in the waiting.
- 16:49We must wait well, and we must know that Jesus can come at any
- 16:54time, friends, and we need to be ready.
- 16:57And we need to be like the five wise virgins who kept their
- 17:01lamps full. They kept their Wicks trimmed.
- 17:06Friends, we must live a life completely sold out to him, full
- 17:11of the Holy Spirit. 16 No man, when he has lit a candle, covers
- 17:16it with a vessel, or puts it under a bed, but sets it on a
- 17:20Candlestick, that they which enter in may see the light.
- 17:24So when we are the light friends, people will be drawn to
- 17:28us in this dark and wicked and perverse world.
- 17:32When you are completely sold out to Jesus Christ, they can't help
- 17:37but to see that there's something different about you
- 17:41and you should look for opportunities.
- 17:42When people ask you what is different, Why is it that every
- 17:47single time I talk to you that you are always in a good mood,
- 17:52you're never down? And it is because we are sold
- 17:55out to Him. We belong to Him, we love Him,
- 17:59and in light of eternity, nothing that is happening on
- 18:02this earth could ever compare. There is no comparison to what
- 18:08is to come, friends. And we need to know that we are
- 18:11headed into glory and that all the things that happened to us
- 18:15on this earth are nothing in comparison of what God has
- 18:19planned in in store for us, friends.
- 18:22And that is where we live. And that is this point of
- 18:27conjecture. That is all of the tension that
- 18:31we live in, friends. It is this cooperative tension
- 18:35that we live in that we know that we're bound to go to
- 18:40heavenly places, that we will be there with Him.
- 18:43He has gone to prepare a place for us, and we have eternal
- 18:47riches waiting for us, and we must be patient in the waiting.
- 18:52Friends, we cannot hide our lamp. 17 For nothing is secret
- 19:01that shall not be made manifest, neither anything hid that shall
- 19:07not be known and come abroad. You cannot hide anything from
- 19:11God, and you better believe, mark it down.
- 19:16You can bet your bottom dollar, you can bank on the fact that
- 19:22every single thing that you do will be brought to light.
- 19:29There is nothing hidden, friends to God, and it is His business
- 19:33to bring it into the light. And you can watch how God is
- 19:38good at that. You can see how He will always
- 19:42bring the things that you're trying to hide into the light
- 19:46because He knows that that is how we're going to be held
- 19:52accountable. And we're going to have to make
- 19:55a decision. And we're either going to make a
- 19:59decision to go into the world or make a decision to confess those
- 20:05things, to ask for forgiveness, to turn from those things to
- 20:10receive our healing, and to allow those things to become
- 20:15part of our testimony, and then to take His name to the ends of
- 20:23the earth. And he is good at what he does,
- 20:26and there's nothing hidden to him.
- 20:28Friends, go ahead and confess it to him, because he already
- 20:32knows. 18 Take heed, therefore, how you hear.
- 20:37For whosoever has to him shall be given, and whosoever has not
- 20:42from him shall be taken even that which he seems to have.
- 20:47So here we understand that once we have heard the Gospel, once
- 20:53we have heard that Jesus is the only way, there is such a
- 20:59responsibility on our side. And here's the other caveat that
- 21:05you must know, that those of us who think that we have read the
- 21:10Bible and that we know it all, He says if you do not continue
- 21:15in the faith, whatever you thought you had will be taken
- 21:18from you. But for those of us who are
- 21:23following after him, hard, following after him, completely
- 21:27sold out, following after Him wholeheartedly, whatever we
- 21:33have, He will continue to build upon that.
- 21:37And it will be layers and layers and layers and tapestry, and it
- 21:43will be swimming in the deep end and never touching the bottom.
- 21:47And God is so complex and it is a simple gospel and it is a
- 21:53simple truth, but it is unsearchable.
- 21:57The depths and the heights of the Word of God. 19 then came to
- 22:04him, his mother and his brothers, and could not come at
- 22:07him for the press. There were so many people, and
- 22:11perhaps they were coming to try and take Jesus back to his
- 22:15hometown. We already know that there were
- 22:17some who thought that he had lost his mind, and here his
- 22:23brothers and his mother are coming to retrieve him. 20 And
- 22:27it was told him by certain, which said, Your mother and your
- 22:31brothers stand outside, desiring to see you. 21 And he answered
- 22:36and said unto them, My mother and my brothers are those which
- 22:40hear the word of God and do it. So we can see these new
- 22:44relationships, that Jesus Christ is telling us that our
- 22:48relationships with our brothers and sisters in Christ supersede
- 22:52the natural relationships. Friends, we need to understand
- 22:58this eternal truth. 22 Now it came to pass on a certain day
- 23:06that when he went into a ship with his disciples, he said unto
- 23:11them, Let us go over unto the other side of the lake.
- 23:16And they launched forth, so you can see the words of Christ, and
- 23:19he's telling them that they will make it to the other side. 23
- 23:24But as they sailed, he fell asleep, and there came down a
- 23:31storm of wind on the lake, and they were filled with water and
- 23:35were in jeopardy. Look at how Jesus is at peace in
- 23:40the boat. He's asleep in the boat, and the
- 23:42water is coming in the boat. And he knew that they would make
- 23:47it to the other side. He was resting in the promise of
- 23:52his Father. He knew that his time had not
- 23:55yet come, and Jesus was perfect in his peace. 24 And they came
- 24:01to him and awoke him, saying, Master, Master, we perished.
- 24:05Then he arose and he rebuked the wind and the raging of the
- 24:08water, And they ceased and and there was a calm.
- 24:12So here we can understand that it's not enough just to hear the
- 24:16words of God. We must obey the words of God.
- 24:20And here the disciples have been given a clear directive that
- 24:24they were going to the other side, and they would have done
- 24:27well to trust in the fact that they were going to the other
- 24:32side. Jesus was asleep.
- 24:35They need not awake him. Jesus knew that they would make
- 24:39it to the other side. And here the disciples had
- 24:42little faith. And it's one thing to learn
- 24:45about all of the principles of God, but it is quite the other
- 24:50to actually apply them. And that is where we are refined
- 24:54in the fire. Friends, we can profess all that
- 24:57we want, but we must show it in our actions.
- 25:02We must show it, friends. Indeed, we cannot just say that
- 25:08we believe in God, and we cannot just say that we believe that
- 25:12Jesus is the Son of God and his Lord of our lives.
- 25:17We must go out, We must show it in our fruits.
- 25:22Friends. 24 And they came to him and awoke him, saying, Master,
- 25:32Master, we perish. Then he arose, and he rebuked
- 25:37the wind and the raging of the water, and they ceased, and
- 25:41there was a calm. So we know from the book of Job
- 25:48that Satan can have power over the weather, and you can see
- 25:54here that Jesus stood up and rebuked it.
- 25:58Perhaps Satan was trying to drown our Lord and the church
- 26:05and it would never come to anything because heaven and
- 26:10earth shall pass away. But not one of these words.
- 26:13And we know that the gates of hell will not prevail against
- 26:17the church. Friends.
- 26:19And there was a calm. I pray that there's a calm in
- 26:22your life, friends, that comes from a day-to-day relationship
- 26:28with God the Father through his Son Jesus Christ. 25 And he said
- 26:34unto them, Where is your faith? And they, being afraid,
- 26:38wondered, saying one to another, What manner of man is this?
- 26:44For he commands even the winds in the water, and they obey him.
- 26:48So here they were still thinking of What kind of man is this?
- 26:52What manner of man is this? And they had not come to the
- 26:57revelation that He is God, that He is the Christ, the Anointed,
- 27:04the long-awaited Messiah. They had not yet come to that.
- 27:09They were still wondering what manner of man is this to them,
- 27:13that He was a rabbi. To them He was their teacher.
- 27:20And they did not realize that even though they had seen all of
- 27:24the miracles, and they had seen the healings and the driving out
- 27:28of impure spirits, they still were thinking He was some kind
- 27:33of miracle worker. What manner of man is this?
- 27:3926 And they arrived at the country of the Gadarenes, which
- 27:42is over against Galilee. 27 And when he went forth to the land,
- 27:47there met him out of the city, a certain man, which had devils
- 27:51long time, and wore no clothes, neither abode in any house but
- 27:55in the tombs. So we know that there were two
- 27:57demoniacs here, and we know that this one was the most vocal.
- 28:01And we know that Jesus could have been swallowed up in the
- 28:06waves prior. Perhaps Satan was trying to
- 28:10drown him and his disciples so that they would not reach this
- 28:14demoniac, this legion. 28 And when he saw Jesus, he cried out
- 28:20and fell down before him, and with a loud voice said, What
- 28:23have I to do with you, Jesus, you son of God most High, I beg
- 28:28you, torment me not. So we see here that Jesus has
- 28:33the ability to torment these spirits and to send them into
- 28:37the judgment that God has awaiting for them.
- 28:41And there's coming a time when all of the impure, unclean
- 28:45spirits will be bound up in, thrown into the judgment that
- 28:49God has awaiting for them. And here we can see that through
- 28:54the name of Jesus Christ, we can command these unclean, evil
- 28:59spirits to go into the judgment that God has awaiting for them.
- 29:05We can see it here. And he recognizes Jesus.
- 29:09He knows him, 29 For he had commanded the unclean spirit to
- 29:14come out of the man, for oftentimes it had caught him,
- 29:18and he was kept bound with chains and in fetters, and he
- 29:21broke the bands and was driven out of the devil into the
- 29:25wilderness. So we can see that the devil was
- 29:30driving him into the wilderness. We can see that he was often
- 29:35bound, but he was so strong he could break all of the chains.
- 29:4030 And Jesus asked him, saying, What is your name?
- 29:44And he said, legion, because many devils were entered into
- 29:48him. So we know that a Roman legion
- 29:50was up to 6000 soldiers. So perhaps this man was riddled
- 29:56with thousands of demons. 31 And they begged him that he would
- 30:01not command them to go out into the deep.
- 30:05So there's so many intricacies here and there's so many
- 30:09interesting points here when it comes to the demons, when it
- 30:14comes to the fallen angels, when it comes to all of the spiritual
- 30:23realm going on all around us, which is more real than the
- 30:26physical world that you and I live in, friends.
- 30:31And it's happening all around us.
- 30:33And Jesus was in tune with it, and Jesus knew what to do with
- 30:38it. And we have that same authority.
- 30:41We have the same ability to command these unclean spirits to
- 30:46go into the judgment that God has awaiting for them and to
- 30:50rebuke them from off of our families.
- 30:52Rebuke them from off of our bodies and from off of our lives
- 30:56and minds, friends, and off of our workplaces, friends and
- 31:00houses, friends. We need to rebuke them.
- 31:02And everywhere that your footsteps is holy ground and
- 31:06everywhere that you go, you should be a peacemaker, friends,
- 31:10and command any unclean, foul spirit to leave in the name of
- 31:14Jesus. And they were begging Him not to
- 31:17send them into the deep. 32 And there was a herd of many swine
- 31:23fitting feeding on the mountain, and they begged him that he
- 31:26would suffer them to enter into them.
- 31:29And he suffered them. 33 And then went the devil's out of the
- 31:34man, and entered into the swine. And the herd ran violently down
- 31:38a steep place into the lake, and were choked.
- 31:42So these evil spirits would rather go into the pigs and be
- 31:47drowned than to have to go into the deep, into the judgment that
- 31:53God has awaiting for them. 34 When they that fed them saw what
- 31:59was done, they fled and went and told it in the city and in the
- 32:04country. 35 Then they went out to see what was done, and came
- 32:09to Jesus, and found the man out of whom the devils were
- 32:13departed, sitting at the feet of Jesus, clothed in his right
- 32:18mind, And they were afraid. Imagine that, friends, Why did
- 32:24they not bring all the sick? Why did they not bring all of
- 32:28the demon possessed people out there to be healed?
- 32:33Why were they afraid? 36 They also, which saw it, told
- 32:40them by what means he had. He that was possessed of the
- 32:43devils was healed. 37 Then the whole multitude of the country
- 32:48of the gatherings roundabout begged him to depart from them,
- 32:53for they were taken with great fear, and he went up into the
- 32:57ship and returned back again. Imagine that, friends.
- 33:01They should have begged him not to leave.
- 33:03They should have begged him to heal all of their sick, and to
- 33:07drive out all the unclean, impure spirits from those that
- 33:12were being tormented. But what did they do?
- 33:14They like their money more than they liked having Jesus with
- 33:22them, and a lot of times it's no different in our world.
- 33:27For right now and for today we would rather put up with all of
- 33:33the evil as long as we can have our nice little cushy life, then
- 33:40to beg Jesus to come and to cleanse everything and actually
- 33:45have to deal with all of our own sinful thoughts and behaviors.
- 33:5238 Now the man out of whom the devils were departed begged him
- 33:57that he might be with him, but Jesus sent him away, saying, 39
- 34:01Return to your own house and show how great things God has
- 34:06done unto you. And he went his way and
- 34:08published throughout the whole city how great things Jesus had
- 34:12done unto him. We know that this man went into
- 34:15Decapolis. We know that this man was
- 34:19telling everyone about what Jesus had done for him.
- 34:23We know that he was not yet ready to be a disciple of Jesus.
- 34:29And look at how when Jesus drives out the impure, unclean,
- 34:33demonic from your life, you are in your right mind and He gives
- 34:40you a sound mind. Friends 40 And it came to pass
- 34:48that when Jesus was returned, the people gladly received him,
- 34:52for they were all waiting for him.
- 34:55Are you waiting on Jesus? I pray that you wait well,
- 34:59Friends, I pray that he does not find you in your sin.
- 35:04I pray that you have dealt with all of your sin.
- 35:07I pray that you have made yourself ready.
- 35:11The Spirit and the bride say, come, they were waiting for him.
- 35:15I pray that you wait well. 41 And behold, there came a man
- 35:19named Gyrus, and he was a ruler of the synagogue, and he fell
- 35:23down at Jesus feet, and begged him that he would come into his
- 35:27house. 42 For he had one only daughter about 12 years of age,
- 35:35and she lay dying, but as he went, the people thronged him.
- 35:40So here this leader of the synagogue Gyrus, we can see that
- 35:44he had a 12 year old daughter who's about to die. 43 and a
- 35:49woman having issue of blood for 12 years, which had spent all of
- 35:54her living upon physicians. Neither could be healed of any.
- 35:59Jesus is the great physician and there is healing on his wings
- 36:04and we know that Jesus, just the touch can heal us and make all
- 36:10of our sins as white as snow. Friends 44 came behind him and
- 36:18touched the border of his garment and immediately her
- 36:21issue of blood stanched. So we know that this woman
- 36:26reached out and grabbed the hem of his garment, grabbed these
- 36:29blue tassels. We know that she received
- 36:34complete healing and no position and no amount of money could
- 36:39have ever brought it. This was miraculous. 45 And
- 36:44Jesus said, Who touched me, when all denied Peter, and they that
- 36:50were with him said, Master, the multitude thronged you, impress
- 36:54you, and you say Who touched me. So there were many people
- 36:58bumping up against him, and he was trying to figure out who
- 37:01touched them. And the disciples once again got
- 37:04it wrong. They were looking at it from a
- 37:07very simple way and there was a lot more layers to what is
- 37:15happening here. They were looking at it from the
- 37:18natural way and Jesus was feeling it and Jesus was sensing
- 37:24it. And they had not yet received
- 37:26the Holy Spirit, so they were not yet in tune with what was
- 37:30happening all around them. 46 And Jesus said, Somebody has
- 37:39touched me, for I perceive that virtue has gone out of me.
- 37:45Jesus is limitless. Jesus is all powerful, and he
- 37:52feels this virtue go out of him. I believe that this was a moment
- 38:00to call her to her feet, to call her as a public witness to
- 38:05everyone all around, to show the power of God that was available.
- 38:1347 And when the woman saw that she was not hid, she came
- 38:18trembling, and falling down before him.
- 38:20She declared unto him before all the people, for what 'cause she
- 38:24had touched him, and how she was healed immediately.
- 38:27So this woman lived in a perpetual defilement where she
- 38:32could not go and worship. She could.
- 38:35She was not allowed in the temple.
- 38:37She was unclean, and this issue of blood defiled her.
- 38:43And so she goes and she tells Jesus of this healing that has
- 38:48taken place. And it is her faith, friends.
- 38:53And she knew that Jesus could do this, and her faith made her
- 38:57well. 48 And he said unto her, daughter, be of good comfort,
- 39:03your faith has made you whole. Go in peace.
- 39:06And he says the same to us, friends, if we will come and
- 39:10touch the hem of his garment, and if we will receive our
- 39:13healing, he will make us whole. Friends.
- 39:16And we don't have to live in the bondage.
- 39:19We don't have to live in the chains of oppression and anxiety
- 39:23and depression, friends. We can have a sound mind.
- 39:27We can have a clean heart. We can have have a clear
- 39:31conscience when we receive this healing, Friends. 49 While he
- 39:38yet spoke, there came one from the ruler of the synagogue's
- 39:42house saying to him, Your daughter is dead.
- 39:46Trouble, not the master. So they thought that he had to
- 39:51be present for her to be healed, and they thought that once she
- 39:56had died, that was it. And Jesus here is going to show
- 40:01them that he has all authority and all power, and there is
- 40:06nothing that he cannot do. Friends 50 But when Jesus heard
- 40:12it, he answered him, saying, Fear not, believe only, and she
- 40:17shall be made whole. What a.
- 40:22Passage of the Bible. Friends, he's telling you to do
- 40:27not fear, He's telling you to just believe. 51 And when he
- 40:35came into the house, he suffered no man to go in, except for
- 40:39Peter and James and John and the Father and the mother of the
- 40:44maiden. So here we know that this Peter,
- 40:47James and John, they got to go with him up to the Mount of
- 40:51Transfiguration. We see them later going into the
- 40:54Garden of Gethsemane with him. This was His elite unit that he
- 40:59would take. And these men were always
- 41:02looking at how Jesus was powerful and it was always
- 41:12connected. These little special missions
- 41:14were connected with powerful moments that they were going to
- 41:19need in their lives and in their ministry.
- 41:22And thank God we get invited into this little elite group
- 41:27that we get to actually see what they saw, which was hidden from
- 41:31the other 9 disciples at this time.
- 41:35And you can see that Jesus here wanted them to see a different
- 41:41facet of him and to see all his power on display here in this
- 41:48room there on the Mount of Transfiguration, and later in
- 41:52the garden as he prayed like drops of blood. 52 and all wept
- 42:00and bewailed her. But he said, weep not, She's not
- 42:04dead, but sleeps. You know, to God, no one's, if
- 42:09no one ever really dies, friends, everyone is still
- 42:15alive. And it's hard for us to wrap our
- 42:17minds around that. Every person who's ever been
- 42:20born is alive somewhere. They're going to spend eternity
- 42:25somewhere. And he's saying that she's just
- 42:29sleeping. She's not dead. 53 And they
- 42:34laughed him to scorn, knowing that she was dead.
- 42:38To us, death is the ultimate betrayal because God has placed
- 42:43eternity into the hearts of man, and we know deep down that we
- 42:47were made to live forever. So when someone dies, it is such
- 42:52a betrayal. But we must trust and we must
- 42:55believe that this is not it. There's so much more that's
- 43:01going on all around us all the time.
- 43:04And we need to be in tune with the spiritual.
- 43:08We need to be in tune with the reality that this is not it,
- 43:12that this is just one big test that is going to determine where
- 43:17you get to spend eternity. And there's only two options,
- 43:21friends. There's heaven and there's hell,
- 43:24and in heaven you are going to be with Christ forever.
- 43:30And in hell you will be eternally separated from God.
- 43:34You will be where the fire is never quenched, the worm never
- 43:39dies, there's weeping and gnashing of teeth.
- 43:42And we must get it right in this little menial 100 year time that
- 43:47we get. And the answer to the test is
- 43:53Jesus. We must place our faith in Jesus
- 43:58Christ, and we must live sold out to him.
- 44:02And all the words that are contained in this book, friends,
- 44:06and obey the word of God, and we will make it there with him.
- 44:12And don't be surprised if your laugh to scorn. 54 And he put
- 44:17them all out, and took her by the hand, and called, saying
- 44:22made arise Just a word, friends, and life comes back into the
- 44:31body, just a word. Jesus can do anything.
- 44:38God can do anything. 55 And her spirit came again, and she arose
- 44:44straightway, and he commanded to give her meat. 56 We'll end
- 44:50here. And her parents were astonished.
- 44:54But he charged them that they should tell no man what was
- 44:58done. It was not yet time for the
- 45:01world to know that the Messiah was in their midst.
- 45:08Look at how this young maiden just comes back to life with
- 45:16Jesus Christ. Everything that he touches comes
- 45:19back to life, and if anyone is in Christ, they're a new
- 45:24creation. The old has passed away and the
- 45:26new has come. Friends.
- 45:29And we can live a life that is abundant and we will not be
- 45:38hidden. People will see God in us.
- 45:42We will reflect the nature of God unto this wicked and dark
- 45:49perverse generation all around us.
- 45:51Friends, we can show them that God is real and He is
- 45:59trustworthy and true and that the Bible is the authority.
- 46:05And they'll see it on us. And they will look, and they
- 46:09will see that Jesus is working through us and that we are his
- 46:14hands and feet. What an amazing chapter this has
- 46:18been. I hope you've been blessed by
- 46:20it. I know I sure have many times
- 46:25over. I'm praying for you, I love you,
- 46:30so does God. We'll see you back here
- 46:34tomorrow. God bless you.
