really
0:19
going
0:19
to
0:19
enjoy
0:19
this
0:20

0:21
but
0:21
before
0:21
we
0:22
get
0:22
to
0:22
the

0:45
the
0:45

0:46
of
0:46
the
0:46

0:47
its
0:47

0:47
and
0:48
how
0:48
to

0:48
it.

1:51
Well,
1:51
Drew,
1:52
welcome
1:52
to
1:52
the
1:52
Articulate
1:53

1:55
Thank
1:55
you
1:55
for
1:55
having
1:56
me.
1:56
Yeah,
1:56
looking
1:57
forward
1:57
to
1:57
it.
1:57
And
1:57
we
1:57
have
1:57
a
1:58
tradition
1:58
on
1:58
the
1:58
Articulate
1:59
Fly.
1:59
We
1:59
like
1:59
to
1:59
ask
2:00
all
2:00
of
2:00
our
2:00
guests
2:00
to
2:00
share
2:01
their
2:01
earliest
2:02
fishing
2:02
memory.
2:04
Well,
2:05
I
2:05
can
2:05
go
2:05
back
2:05
to,
2:06
I
2:06
believe
2:06
I
2:06
was
2:07
7
2:07
years
2:07
old
2:08
fishing
2:08
with
2:08
my
2:08
grandfather.
2:09
We
2:10
were
2:10
on
2:10
a
2:11
little
2:11
tiny
2:11
trout
2:12
stream
2:12
in
2:12
Constable,
2:13
New
2:13
York,
2:14
and
2:14
he
2:15
was.
2:16
He
2:16
was
2:16
walking
2:17
behind
2:17
me
2:17
and
2:18
I
2:18
had
2:18
the
2:18
rod
2:18
over
2:19
my
2:19
shoulder
2:19
and,
2:20
and
2:21
I
2:21
stopped
2:22
and
2:22
he
2:22
didn't.
2:23
And
2:23
next
2:24
thing
2:24
I
2:24
know
2:24
is
2:25
the.
2:26
The
2:26
worm
2:26
hook
2:26
is.
2:27
Is
2:27
hooked
2:28
into
2:28
his
2:28
shirt
2:29
pocket
2:29
and
2:30
he
2:30
looked
2:30
at
2:30
me
2:30
and
2:30
he
2:31
said,
2:31
well,
2:31
you
2:31
just
2:32
caught
2:32
yourself
2:32
175
2:33
pound
2:34
sucker.
2:36
That
2:36
was
2:37
my.
2:37
That's
2:37
my
2:37
earliest
2:38
fishing
2:38
memory.
2:40
We
2:41
didn't.
2:41
We
2:41
didn't
2:41
catch
2:42
many
2:42
trout.
2:43
I've
2:43
subsequently
2:44
gotten
2:44
Fish
2:45
that,
2:45
that
2:45
the
2:45
stream
2:46
a
2:46
fair
2:47
amount
2:47
and
2:47
it's
2:47
a
2:48
fun
2:48
little
2:48
stream.
2:49
Mostly
2:50
stock
2:50
browns,
2:51
but
2:52
it
2:53
was
2:53
a,
2:53
it
2:53
was
2:54
a
2:54
great
2:54
memory
2:54
of
2:54
my
2:54
grandfather.
2:56
Very,
2:56
very
2:57
neat.
2:57
And
2:57
so
2:57
when
2:57
did
2:57
you
2:57
come
2:58
to
2:58
the
2:58
dark
2:58
side
2:58
of
2:58
fly
2:59
fishing?
3:00
When
3:01
I
3:01
was
3:01
in
3:01
college
3:02
at
3:02
SUNY
3:02
Plattsburgh,
3:03
I
3:04
picked
3:04
up
3:04
fly
3:05
fishing
3:05
in,
3:06
I
3:06
guess
3:06
it
3:07
was
3:07
1993,
3:08
the
3:08
first
3:08
time
3:09
I
3:09
graduated
3:09
from,
3:10
from
3:10
college
3:10
there.
3:10
I
3:11
graduated
3:12
an
3:12
art
3:12
degree
3:14
and
3:14
I
3:14
asked
3:14
my
3:15
parents
3:15
for
3:15
a
3:15
fly
3:16
rod
3:17
grad
3:17
in
3:17
December
3:18
and
3:18
I
3:18
went
3:18
out
3:18
and
3:19
beat
3:19
the
3:19
snow
3:20
quite
3:20
a
3:20
bit
3:20
with
3:20
it
3:21
and
3:21
taught
3:21
myself
3:22
how
3:22
to
3:22
cast.
3:23
And
3:23
within,
3:24
within
3:26
a
3:26
month
3:27
of
3:27
having
3:27
that,
3:27
I
3:28
bought
3:28
a
3:28
fly
3:28
tying
3:29
kit
3:29
and
3:30
the
3:30
two
3:30
kind
3:30
of
3:30
went
3:31
hand
3:31
in
3:31
hand.
3:32
And
3:33
that
3:33
next
3:34
spring,
3:35
very
3:35
first
3:35
fish
3:36
I
3:36
got
3:36
on
3:36
the
3:36
fly
3:37
was
3:37
a,
3:37
was
3:38
a
3:38
nice
3:38
smallmouth
3:39
bass
3:39
out
3:39
of
3:39
the
3:40
Saranac
3:40
river,
3:41
probably
3:42
about
3:42
four,
3:42
four
3:42
and
3:42
a
3:42
half
3:43
pounds.
3:44
And
3:46
definitely
3:46
developed
3:47
a
3:47
love
3:47
of
3:47
smallmouth
3:48
at
3:48
that,
3:49
at
3:49
that
3:49
moment.
3:51
Very,
3:52
very
3:52
neat.
3:52
And
3:52
so
3:52
obviously
3:53
you've
3:53
been
3:53
in
3:53
the
3:53
game
3:54
for
3:54
a
3:54
long
3:54
time.
3:54
You
3:55
know,
3:55
who
3:55
are
3:55
some
3:55
of
3:55
the
3:55
folks
3:55
that
3:56
have
3:56
mentored
3:56
you
3:56
on
3:56
your
3:57
fly
3:57
fishing
3:57
journey
3:57
and
3:58
what
3:58
have
3:58
they
3:58
taught
3:58
you?
4:00
Well,
4:00
you
4:00
know,
4:01
it's,
4:01
it's
4:01
interesting.
4:02
So
4:03
initially
4:04
I
4:05
really,
4:05
you
4:05
know,
4:05
I
4:06
had
4:06
a
4:06
couple
4:06
of
4:06
buddies
4:07
in
4:07
college
4:08
that,
4:08
that
4:09
I
4:09
fly,
4:10
you
4:10
know,
4:10
that
4:11
I
4:11
fly
4:11
fish
4:11
with
4:12
a
4:12
little
4:12
bit.
4:14
But
4:14
most
4:14
of
4:14
it,
4:15
most
4:15
of
4:15
my
4:16
early
4:16
fly
4:16
fishing
4:17
experience
4:17
was,
4:18
was
4:18
entirely
4:19
on
4:19
my
4:19
own.
4:21
There
4:22
weren't
4:22
a
4:22
lot
4:22
of
4:22
people
4:23
that
4:23
I
4:24
knew
4:24
that,
4:25
that
4:26
really
4:26
fly
4:26
fish
4:27
seriously
4:28
and,
4:29
and
4:29
were
4:29
interested
4:30
in
4:30
doing
4:30
the
4:30
kind
4:30
of
4:31
fly
4:31
fishing
4:31
that
4:31
I
4:32
wanted
4:32
to
4:32
do.
4:33
I've
4:34
always
4:34
had
4:35
kind
4:35
of
4:35
like,
4:37
like
4:37
what
4:38
can
4:38
I
4:38
catch
4:38
next?
4:39
Attitude
4:41
and
4:43
so
4:43
I
4:44
would,
4:45
I
4:46
would
4:46
get
4:46
out
4:46
and
4:46
chase
4:47
whatever
4:47
I
4:47
could
4:48
find.
4:49
You
4:50
know,
4:51
I,
4:52
when
4:52
I
4:52
first
4:52
started
4:53
fly
4:53
fishing,
4:54
I
4:54
really
4:54
wanted
4:54
to
4:55
get
4:55
into
4:55
pike,
4:55
you
4:55
know,
4:56
catch
4:56
pike
4:57
on
4:57
a
4:57
fly,
4:57
I
4:58
wanted
4:58
to
4:58
get
4:59
musky
5:00
on
5:00
a
5:00
fly.
5:01
You
5:01
know,
5:01
all
5:01
these
5:02
warm
5:02
water
5:02
species
5:03
that,
5:03
that,
5:04
you
5:04
know,
5:04
in
5:04
the,
5:05
in
5:05
the
5:05
early
5:05
90s,
5:06
nobody
5:06
was
5:07
really
5:07
talking
5:07
about,
5:08
nobody
5:08
was
5:08
really
5:09
chasing
5:10
and,
5:10
but
5:11
that
5:11
was
5:11
what
5:11
I
5:11
wanted
5:12
to
5:12
do,
5:12
you
5:12
know,
5:13
like
5:13
my
5:13
first
5:14
muskie
5:14
on
5:14
the
5:14
fly
5:14
was
5:15
95,
5:15
right?
5:16
And
5:16
there
5:16
was,
5:17
there
5:17
was
5:17
nobody
5:18
talking
5:18
about
5:18
muskies.
5:19
There
5:19
was
5:19
nobody
5:20
in
5:20
my
5:20
area
5:21
in
5:21
northern
5:21
New
5:22
York
5:22
doing
5:22
it.
5:23
So
5:24
I
5:24
didn't
5:24
really
5:25
have
5:25
any
5:25
mentors
5:25
and
5:26
in
5:26
a
5:26
lot
5:26
of
5:26
ways
5:26
I
5:26
was
5:27
kind
5:27
of
5:27
self
5:27
taught.
5:29
That
5:29
has
5:29
changed
5:30
in
5:31
the
5:31
past
5:31
10
5:31
years
5:32
or
5:32
so
5:32
where
5:32
I've
5:33
really
5:34
kind
5:34
of
5:34
come
5:35
into
5:36
the
5:36
industry
5:37
more.
5:38
And
5:39
you
5:39
know,
5:39
I,
5:39
the
5:40
people
5:40
I
5:40
really
5:41
look
5:41
up
5:41
to
5:41
and,
5:41
and
5:42
I'll
5:42
I'll
5:42
hit
5:42
up
5:43
for
5:43
advice.
5:43
Are,
5:44
are
5:45
Tom
5:45
Rosenbauer
5:47
and,
5:47
and
5:48
Blaine
5:48
Chocolate.
5:49
Are,
5:49
are
5:49
two
5:50
people
5:50
that,
5:50
you
5:50
know,
5:51
who
5:51
I
5:51
have
5:52
a
5:52
lot
5:52
of
5:52
respect
5:53
for
5:53
and
5:55
are
5:55
willing
5:56
to
5:56
answer
5:57
questions
5:57
for
5:58
me
5:58
and,
6:01
and
6:02
talk
6:02
me
6:02
through
6:02
things
6:03
when
6:03
I
6:03
need
6:03
help.
6:04
And
6:04
that's
6:05
been
6:05
really,
6:06
you
6:07
know,
6:07
I
6:07
couldn't
6:07
ask
6:08
for
6:08
two
6:08
people
6:09
to
6:10
reach
6:10
out
6:10
to,
6:11
you
6:11
know.
6:12
Yeah,
6:13
absolutely.
6:14
And
6:14
I
6:14
think
6:14
the
6:14
amazing
6:14
thing
6:15
too
6:15
is,
6:15
you
6:15
know,
6:16
not
6:16
only
6:16
back
6:17
in
6:17
kind
6:17
of
6:17
the
6:17
mid-90s,
6:18
you
6:18
know,
6:18
there
6:18
was
6:19
no
6:19
information
6:20
for
6:21
chasing
6:21
these.
6:21
We'll
6:21
just
6:22
call
6:22
them
6:22
kind
6:22
of
6:23
alternative
6:23
species
6:24
on
6:24
the
6:24
fly.
6:25
But,
6:25
but
6:25
I
6:25
mean,
6:26
the
6:26
gear
6:26
wasn't
6:27
there
6:27
either,
6:27
right?
6:28
I
6:28
mean,
6:28
and
6:28
so
6:29
no,
6:29
you
6:30
know,
6:30
this
6:30
isn't
6:30
like,
6:30
you
6:31
just
6:31
go
6:31
to
6:31
like
6:31
the
6:32
catalog
6:32
or
6:32
the
6:32
Internet
6:33
and
6:33
you
6:33
get
6:34
a
6:34
muskie
6:34
line,
6:34
you
6:35
get
6:35
a
6:35
muskie
6:35
rod,
6:35
you
6:36
get
6:36
a
6:36
muskie
6:36
reel,
6:36
you
6:36
go
6:37
buy
6:37
muskie
6:37
flies
6:38
and
6:38
you
6:38
go
6:38
buy,
6:39
you
6:39
know,
6:39
terminal
6:40
tackle
6:40
and
6:40
you're
6:40
done.
6:41
I
6:41
mean,
6:41
it
6:41
was
6:41
like
6:42
you
6:42
had
6:42
to
6:42
kind
6:42
of
6:42
build
6:43
it
6:43
all.
6:44
Oh
6:44
yeah.
6:45
Oh
6:45
yeah,
6:45
no
6:45
doubt.
6:46
You
6:47
know,
6:47
my,
6:47
my,
6:48
my
6:48
initial
6:48
muskie
6:49
flies
6:49
were
6:50
basically
6:50
just
6:50
a
6:50
kind
6:51
of
6:51
a
6:52
deceiver
6:54
derivative
6:55
that,
6:55
that
6:56
I
6:57
kind
6:58
of
6:58
made
6:58
up
6:58
myself,
7:00
you
7:00
know,
7:01
with
7:01
a
7:01
lot
7:01
of
7:01
bucktail
7:02
and,
7:02
and
7:03
rabbit
7:03
strip.
7:03
And
7:03
I
7:04
was
7:04
using
7:04
the
7:04
old
7:04
Mustad
7:05
3366
7:07
hooks
7:08
and,
7:09
and
7:09
whatever
7:09
hooks
7:10
I
7:10
could
7:10
find
7:12
the
7:12
wire.
7:13
I,
7:14
I
7:14
had
7:14
picked
7:14
up
7:16
some
7:17
single
7:17
strand
7:18
wire
7:18
down
7:18
in
7:19
Florida
7:19
on
7:19
a
7:19
fishing
7:20
trip
7:21
to
7:21
the
7:21
Everglades.
7:22
I,
7:22
you
7:22
know,
7:22
I
7:23
found
7:23
it
7:23
at,
7:23
at
7:24
this
7:24
fishing
7:24
shop
7:24
and
7:24
I
7:25
bought
7:25
you
7:25
know,
7:26
like
7:26
a
7:26
couple
7:26
of
7:27
packages,
7:28
like
7:28
30
7:28
foot
7:28
rolls
7:29
and
7:29
that,
7:29
you
7:29
know,
7:30
that
7:30
was
7:30
my
7:31
pike
7:31
and
7:31
muskie
7:32
leader.
7:32
You
7:33
know,
7:33
for
7:33
pike.
7:34
When
7:34
I
7:34
was
7:34
pike
7:34
fishing,
7:35
I
7:35
was
7:35
just
7:35
using
7:35
a,
7:37
you
7:37
know,
7:37
a
7:38
conventional
7:38
tackle
7:39
leader,
7:39
which
7:40
really
7:40
aren't
7:41
great,
7:43
you
7:44
know,
7:44
when
7:44
you're
7:44
fishing
7:44
on
7:45
a
7:45
fly,
7:45
fishing
7:46
with
7:46
a
7:46
fly
7:46
rod.
7:47
And
7:47
you
7:47
know,
7:47
back
7:48
then
7:48
there
7:48
were
7:48
no,
7:49
like
7:49
none
7:50
of
7:50
these,
7:50
these
7:51
awesome
7:51
lines
7:52
that
7:52
are
7:52
out
7:52
now
7:53
that
7:53
are,
7:53
you
7:53
know,
7:53
like
7:54
two
7:55
line
7:55
weights
7:56
heavier
7:56
to
7:57
really
7:57
help
7:57
you
7:57
propel
7:58
those
7:58
big
7:58
flies.
8:00
So,
8:01
you
8:01
know,
8:01
and
8:02
the
8:02
rods
8:02
weren't,
8:03
the
8:04
rods
8:04
weren't
8:04
quite
8:05
right,
8:06
you
8:06
know,
8:07
you
8:07
know,
8:07
back
8:08
when
8:08
I
8:08
really
8:09
got
8:09
into
8:09
it,
8:09
it
8:09
was,
8:10
you
8:10
know,
8:11
it
8:11
was,
8:11
Im6
8:12
was
8:12
like
8:12
the
8:12
hot
8:13
thing.
8:15
And
8:16
you
8:16
know,
8:17
I
8:17
remember
8:18
building
8:18
a
8:18
couple
8:19
of
8:19
my,
8:19
my
8:19
own
8:20
rods
8:20
because
8:21
I
8:21
worked
8:21
for
8:21
a
8:21
hook
8:22
and
8:22
hack.
8:23
They
8:23
were
8:23
based
8:24
in
8:24
Plattsburgh
8:24
for
8:25
quite
8:25
a
8:25
while
8:25
and
8:25
I
8:25
worked
8:26
for
8:26
them
8:26
for
8:26
a
8:26
while
8:27
and
8:29
built
8:29
my,
8:29
you
8:29
know,
8:30
an
8:30
IM69
8:31
weight.
8:31
And
8:32
that
8:32
was
8:32
my,
8:33
that
8:33
was
8:33
my
8:34
go
8:34
to
8:34
musky
8:35
rod
8:35
for
8:35
for
8:36
several
8:36
years.
8:37
Musky
8:37
and
8:37
pike
8:37
rod
8:38
for
8:38
several
8:38
years.
8:40
And
8:40
you
8:41
know,
8:41
I
8:41
just
8:41
remember
8:42
what
8:42
a
8:42
bear
8:42
that
8:43
was,
8:43
you
8:44
know,
8:44
like
8:45
it
8:45
was
8:45
so
8:46
much
8:46
more
8:46
pleasant
8:46
to
8:47
do
8:47
the
8:48
stuff
8:48
that
8:48
I
8:48
do
8:49
with
8:50
gear
8:50
that
8:51
is
8:51
intended
8:51
to
8:52
do
8:52
what
8:52
I
8:52
do,
8:53
you
8:53
know.
8:54
Yeah,
8:55
absolutely.
8:55
And
8:55
so
8:56
when
8:56
did
8:56
you
8:56
get
8:56
the
8:56
guide
8:56
bug?
8:59
So
8:59
I
9:00
had,
9:00
I've
9:01
been
9:01
fly
9:01
fishing
9:02
for
9:02
about
9:02
15
9:03
years.
9:04
I
9:05
had
9:05
moved
9:05
from
9:06
northern
9:06
New
9:06
York
9:06
to
9:07
Vermont
9:09
and
9:10
you
9:10
know,
9:10
I
9:11
thought
9:11
about
9:12
guiding
9:12
here
9:12
and
9:12
there
9:13
I
9:13
was,
9:13
I
9:13
was
9:13
kind
9:13
of
9:14
like,
9:14
you
9:14
know,
9:14
I
9:14
don't
9:15
know
9:15
if
9:15
I
9:15
really
9:15
have
9:15
the
9:16
chops
9:16
for
9:16
it.
9:17
I
9:17
don't
9:17
know
9:17
if
9:17
I
9:17
really
9:18
have
9:18
the
9:18
know
9:18
how
9:19
and
9:19
you
9:20
know,
9:20
do
9:20
I.
9:20
Is
9:20
this
9:21
something
9:21
I
9:21
really
9:21
want
9:21
to
9:22
do?
9:22
And
9:23
then
9:24
I
9:24
happened
9:25
to
9:25
see
9:25
a
9:25
local
9:26
guide
9:27
service
9:27
that
9:27
was
9:28
looking
9:28
for
9:28
people,
9:29
looking
9:30
to
9:30
bring
9:30
people
9:30
on,
9:30
on
9:31
board.
9:31
I
9:32
think
9:32
it
9:32
was
9:32
an
9:32
ad
9:33
on
9:33
Craigslist
9:33
of
9:33
all
9:34
places.
9:34
And
9:35
I
9:35
was
9:35
like,
9:35
you
9:35
know,
9:35
what
9:35
the
9:36
heck,
9:36
I'll
9:36
do
9:36
that.
9:37
And
9:38
I
9:38
came
9:38
on
9:38
board
9:38
and
9:39
you
9:39
know,
9:39
it
9:39
was
9:39
mostly
9:40
guiding
9:40
trout
9:41
and,
9:41
and
9:42
I
9:42
was
9:42
like,
9:42
hey
9:42
guys,
9:42
you
9:43
know,
9:43
I
9:43
do
9:43
all
9:43
this
9:44
stuff
9:44
with
9:44
like
9:44
bowfin
9:45
and
9:45
carp
9:46
and
9:46
gar
9:46
and
9:46
pike
9:47
and,
9:48
and
9:48
they're
9:48
like,
9:48
you
9:48
do
9:49
what?
9:49
And
9:50
you
9:50
know,
9:51
I
9:52
was
9:52
just
9:52
like
9:52
this,
9:53
you
9:53
know,
9:53
I,
9:54
I've
9:54
got
9:54
all
9:55
these
9:55
things
9:55
that
9:55
I
9:55
do.
9:56
Is
9:56
this
9:56
something
9:56
you
9:57
think
9:57
people
9:57
would
9:58
be
9:58
interested
9:58
in
9:58
trying
9:59
out?
9:59
And
9:59
they're
9:59
like,
10:00
sure.
10:01
And
10:02
within
10:02
a
10:02
couple
10:02
years,
10:03
about
10:03
a
10:04
third
10:04
of
10:04
the
10:04
trips
10:04
that
10:05
we
10:05
were
10:05
running
10:05
were
10:05
the
10:05
trips
10:06
that
10:06
I
10:06
brought
10:06
to
10:07
them.
10:09
And
10:10
I
10:10
quickly
10:10
realized
10:11
that,
10:11
you
10:12
know,
10:12
didn't
10:13
really
10:13
want
10:13
to
10:13
do
10:15
one
10:15
on
10:15
one
10:15
trout
10:16
trips
10:16
anymore.
10:16
And
10:17
I
10:17
really
10:17
wanted
10:17
to
10:17
focus
10:18
in
10:18
on
10:19
the
10:19
kind
10:19
of
10:19
stuff
10:20
I
10:20
was
10:20
more
10:20
interested.
10:21
And
10:21
I
10:21
went
10:22
out
10:22
on
10:22
my
10:22
own.
10:23
Started
10:24
masterclass.
10:26
Yeah,
10:26
got
10:26
it.
10:27
And
10:27
so
10:27
when
10:27
was
10:27
that?
10:29
That
10:29
was
10:30
in
10:30
fall
10:31
of
10:31
2010.
10:33
Got
10:33
it.
10:33
And
10:34
you
10:34
know,
10:34
so
10:35
you
10:35
mentioned
10:35
Tom
10:35
and
10:35
Blaine
10:36
in
10:36
terms
10:36
of
10:37
fly
10:37
fishing
10:37
mentors.
10:38
You
10:38
know,
10:38
I
10:39
would
10:39
imagine
10:39
they've
10:39
been
10:39
incredibly
10:40
influential
10:40
in
10:41
your
10:41
guiding.
10:41
But
10:41
are
10:41
there
10:42
any
10:42
other
10:42
folks
10:42
in
10:42
the
10:42
guide
10:43
space
10:43
that
10:43
have
10:44
kind
10:44
of
10:44
mentored
10:44
you
10:44
on
10:45
your
10:45
journey?
10:47
You
10:47
know,
10:47
I've
10:47
got
10:47
some,
10:48
some,
10:48
some
10:48
friends
10:49
around
10:50
here
10:52
that,
10:53
that
10:53
have,
10:55
that
10:55
have
10:55
been
10:56
pretty,
10:56
pretty
10:57
helpful.
10:57
You
10:57
know,
10:57
there's,
10:58
there's
11:00
Jesse
11:01
Haller
11:01
who
11:02
works
11:02
for
11:02
Orvis
11:03
now,
11:03
was,
11:04
was
11:04
really
11:05
great.
11:07
You
11:07
know,
11:07
we,
11:08
we
11:08
talk
11:08
shops.
11:09
There's
11:09
definitely
11:10
a
11:11
group
11:11
of
11:11
guys
11:11
around
11:12
here
11:12
that
11:12
I
11:12
talk
11:12
to
11:13
pretty
11:14
routinely
11:14
now.
11:15
But
11:16
you
11:16
know,
11:17
stuff
11:17
that
11:18
I
11:18
do
11:18
isn't,
11:20
you
11:20
know,
11:20
it's,
11:21
it's
11:21
very
11:22
non
11:22
traditional,
11:22
especially
11:23
for
11:23
Vermont.
11:24
Like
11:25
there,
11:25
you
11:25
know,
11:25
when
11:26
I,
11:26
when
11:26
I
11:26
started
11:27
Bringing
11:27
Bowen
11:28
to
11:28
the
11:28
table
11:29
around
11:29
here.
11:31
You
11:31
know,
11:31
I.
11:31
When
11:32
I
11:32
brought
11:32
it
11:32
up
11:32
to
11:32
the
11:32
guide
11:33
service
11:33
that
11:33
I
11:33
was
11:33
originally
11:34
with,
11:35
I
11:35
was
11:35
like,
11:36
you
11:36
know,
11:36
there's
11:36
these
11:37
fish
11:37
called
11:37
bowfin
11:38
in
11:38
Lake
11:38
Champlain,
11:38
and.
11:39
And
11:39
they
11:39
all
11:39
looked
11:39
at
11:39
me
11:39
and
11:40
they're
11:40
like,
11:40
what.
11:40
What's
11:40
a
11:41
Bowen?
11:41
You
11:42
know,
11:43
so
11:44
I
11:44
didn't
11:44
really,
11:46
you
11:46
know,
11:46
like,
11:47
I
11:47
kind
11:47
of,
11:48
you
11:49
know,
11:50
not
11:50
trying
11:50
to
11:50
put
11:50
myself
11:51
up
11:51
on
11:51
a
11:51
pedestal,
11:52
I.
11:52
I
11:52
just
11:53
know
11:53
the
11:53
stuff
11:53
that
11:53
I
11:54
like
11:54
that
11:54
I
11:54
know
11:55
the
11:55
stuff
11:55
that
11:55
I
11:55
want
11:56
to
11:56
do,
11:56
and
11:57
I
11:57
know
11:57
how
11:57
to
11:57
do
11:57
it.
11:58
And
11:58
I'm.
11:59
I'm,
12:00
you
12:00
know,
12:00
and
12:01
kind
12:02
of
12:02
a
12:02
natural
12:02
educator.
12:04
I
12:04
worked
12:04
in
12:04
the
12:05
education
12:05
field
12:05
for.
12:06
For
12:06
10
12:06
years.
12:07
And
12:08
I
12:08
love
12:08
teaching
12:09
people
12:09
new
12:10
things,
12:10
and
12:10
I
12:10
love
12:11
teaching
12:11
people
12:11
about
12:11
the
12:12
lake
12:12
that
12:12
we're
12:12
on
12:12
and
12:13
then
12:13
the
12:13
fish
12:13
that
12:14
are
12:14
here
12:14
and
12:14
how
12:14
to
12:14
catch.
12:16
And
12:16
it
12:16
just
12:16
kind
12:17
of
12:17
came
12:17
together
12:17
for
12:17
me.
12:21
I
12:21
don't
12:21
know
12:23
that
12:24
if
12:24
that
12:24
makes
12:25
sense
12:25
at
12:25
all.
12:26
Yeah,
12:26
it
12:27
does.
12:27
You
12:27
know,
12:27
and
12:27
it's
12:27
an
12:28
interesting
12:28
thing
12:28
because,
12:28
I
12:28
mean,
12:29
I've.
12:29
I've
12:29
got.
12:29
I've
12:30
been
12:30
fortunate
12:30
enough
12:30
to
12:31
know
12:31
and
12:31
fish
12:31
with
12:32
a
12:32
lot
12:32
of
12:32
guides,
12:32
and,
12:33
you
12:33
know,
12:33
it's
12:33
kind
12:33
of.
12:33
And
12:34
you
12:34
and
12:34
I
12:34
have
12:34
talked
12:34
about
12:34
this.
12:35
I
12:35
mean,
12:35
it's
12:35
kind
12:35
of
12:35
that
12:35
secret
12:36
sauce,
12:36
right,
12:37
where,
12:37
you
12:37
know,
12:38
like.
12:38
Like,
12:38
God
12:39
nirvana
12:40
is
12:40
to
12:41
fill
12:41
your
12:41
calendar
12:42
with
12:42
people
12:42
that
12:43
you
12:43
want
12:43
to
12:43
fish
12:43
with
12:44
that
12:44
want
12:44
to
12:45
fish
12:45
the
12:46
way
12:46
you
12:46
want
12:46
to
12:46
guide
12:46
people.
12:48
Right,
12:49
Right.
12:50
Well,
12:50
you
12:50
know,
12:50
actually,
12:51
I
12:51
actually
12:52
have.
12:52
I
12:52
have
12:52
to
12:52
take
12:53
this
12:53
back
12:53
a
12:53
little
12:53
bit
12:54
because
12:54
I
12:55
just
12:55
remembered
12:57
probably
12:57
one
12:57
of
12:58
the
12:58
best
12:58
pieces
12:59
of
12:59
advice
13:00
that
13:00
I
13:00
ever
13:00
got
13:01
about
13:02
guiding
13:03
was
13:04
in
13:05
2012,
13:08
and
13:08
it
13:08
was
13:09
in
13:09
August
13:09
of
13:10
2012.
13:11
And
13:13
earlier
13:14
that
13:14
year,
13:14
I
13:14
had
13:15
filmed
13:15
with
13:16
River
13:16
Monsters.
13:17
They
13:17
came
13:17
to
13:18
Vermont
13:18
to
13:19
film
13:20
an
13:20
episode.
13:21
It
13:21
was
13:21
just
13:22
Vampires
13:22
of
13:23
the
13:23
Deep.
13:23
They
13:23
were
13:23
chasing
13:24
after
13:24
lamprey.
13:26
And.
13:27
And
13:28
U.S.
13:28
fish
13:28
and
13:28
Wildlife
13:29
Service
13:29
had.
13:30
Had
13:30
recommended
13:31
me
13:31
because
13:32
they
13:33
wanted
13:33
to
13:33
try
13:33
to
13:33
put
13:34
Jeremy
13:34
on.
13:35
Jeremy
13:36
Wade
13:36
on.
13:36
On
13:37
some
13:37
muskies.
13:38
And
13:38
they're
13:38
like,
13:38
the
13:39
guy
13:39
you
13:39
got
13:39
to
13:39
talk
13:39
to
13:39
is
13:40
Drew
13:40
Price.
13:41
And,
13:41
you
13:42
know,
13:42
and
13:42
I
13:42
talked
13:42
to
13:43
them
13:43
and
13:43
I
13:43
was
13:43
like,
13:43
you
13:43
know,
13:43
muskies
13:44
may
13:44
not
13:45
be
13:45
a
13:45
great
13:45
option,
13:45
but
13:46
bowfin
13:46
and
13:46
Gar
13:47
and
13:47
there's
13:47
a
13:48
few
13:48
other
13:48
things,
13:49
and
13:49
I'd
13:50
be
13:50
happy
13:50
to
13:50
help
13:50
you
13:50
out
13:51
with
13:51
this.
13:51
So
13:51
I
13:51
was
13:51
like,
13:51
I
13:52
know
13:52
all
13:52
these
13:52
waters
13:53
that
13:53
you're
13:53
on
13:53
and.
13:54
And
13:55
ended
13:56
up
13:56
spending
13:56
five
13:57
days
13:57
with
13:57
them.
13:58
You.
13:58
You
13:59
barely
13:59
even
14:00
see
14:00
me
14:00
in
14:00
the
14:00
episode.
14:02
It's
14:02
kind
14:02
of.
14:03
Kind
14:03
of
14:03
funny.
14:03
They.
14:04
They're
14:04
filming
14:04
the
14:04
back
14:05
end
14:05
of
14:05
the
14:05
canoe.
14:05
Jeremy's
14:06
in
14:06
the
14:06
front
14:06
of
14:06
the
14:06
canoe.
14:07
I'm
14:07
in
14:07
the
14:07
middle,
14:08
and
14:08
the
14:08
top
14:09
third
14:09
of
14:10
the
14:10
screen
14:10
is
14:10
my
14:10
butt,
14:12
so
14:13
you
14:14
really
14:14
don't
14:14
see
14:14
me
14:15
much
14:15
in
14:15
the
14:15
episode.
14:16
But
14:17
Jeremy
14:17
came
14:18
back
14:19
to
14:19
Vermont
14:20
later
14:20
that
14:21
summer,
14:22
and.
14:22
And
14:22
he
14:23
reached
14:23
out
14:23
to
14:23
me,
14:23
and
14:23
he
14:23
said,
14:24
you
14:24
know,
14:24
let's
14:24
go
14:24
fishing.
14:25
And
14:26
we
14:26
took
14:26
him.
14:27
I
14:27
took
14:27
him
14:27
out,
14:27
and
14:29
at
14:29
the
14:29
end
14:29
of
14:29
the
14:30
day,
14:30
when
14:30
I
14:30
was
14:30
driving
14:30
him
14:30
back
14:31
off
14:31
in
14:31
the
14:31
hotel,
14:32
we're
14:32
just
14:32
sitting
14:33
in
14:33
my
14:33
truck
14:33
in
14:33
the
14:33
parking
14:34
lot
14:34
talking.
14:35
And
14:35
he
14:36
was
14:36
telling
14:36
me
14:36
about
14:37
when
14:38
he
14:38
guided
14:38
in
14:38
the
14:39
Amazon,
14:39
and
14:40
he
14:40
said,
14:40
you
14:40
know
14:40
what
14:40
I
14:41
did?
14:41
He
14:41
said,
14:44
I
14:46
did
14:46
what
14:46
I
14:47
wanted
14:47
to
14:47
do.
14:48
I
14:48
didn't
14:49
let
14:50
other
14:50
people
14:50
create
14:51
the
14:51
expectations
14:53
of
14:53
what
14:54
they
14:55
wanted
14:55
my
14:55
guide
14:56
service
14:56
to
14:56
be.
14:56
He's
14:57
like,
14:57
I
14:58
wanted
14:58
my
14:58
guide
14:58
service
14:59
to
14:59
be
14:59
this.
15:00
He's
15:00
like,
15:00
I
15:01
went
15:01
out
15:01
and
15:02
I
15:02
fished
15:03
for
15:03
the
15:03
things
15:03
that
15:04
I
15:04
wanted
15:04
to
15:04
fish
15:04
for,
15:05
and
15:05
people
15:06
came
15:06
to
15:07
me
15:07
because
15:07
of
15:07
the
15:08
interest
15:08
that
15:08
I
15:08
had
15:08
in
15:09
those
15:09
things.
15:10
And
15:10
he
15:10
said.
15:11
He
15:11
said.
15:12
He's
15:13
like,
15:13
I
15:13
was
15:13
booked
15:14
out
15:14
two
15:14
years
15:15
in
15:15
advance.
15:15
He's
15:15
like,
15:16
there
15:16
is
15:16
a
15:16
waiting
15:16
list.
15:17
And
15:18
he's
15:18
like,
15:18
do
15:19
what
15:19
you
15:20
want
15:20
to
15:20
do
15:21
with
15:22
your
15:22
guide
15:22
service.
15:23
And
15:24
that's
15:24
really.
15:25
The
15:25
first
15:25
10
15:26
years
15:26
of
15:26
my
15:27
guide
15:27
service,
15:28
that's
15:28
what
15:28
I
15:28
did.
15:29
And.
15:30
And
15:31
it's
15:31
kind
15:31
of
15:31
still
15:32
my
15:32
attitude
15:33
about
15:34
it.
15:34
Like,
15:35
I.
15:36
You
15:36
know,
15:37
I
15:37
could
15:38
do
15:38
trout
15:38
trips.
15:39
I
15:39
don't.
15:40
For
15:40
the
15:40
most
15:40
part,
15:41
I'll
15:41
do
15:41
some
15:41
streamer
15:42
trips
15:42
for.
15:42
For.
15:43
For
15:43
larger
15:43
trout
15:44
here
15:44
and
15:44
there,
15:44
or
15:44
sight
15:45
fishing
15:45
for.
15:45
For.
15:46
For
15:46
large
15:47
browns
15:47
in
15:47
the.
15:48
In
15:48
the
15:48
fall,
15:49
but
15:50
for
15:50
the
15:50
most
15:50
part,
15:50
I
15:50
avoid
15:51
that.
15:53
I
15:54
have
15:55
been
15:55
very
15:55
fortunate
15:55
that
15:56
most
15:56
of
15:56
the
15:56
people
15:56
who
15:57
come
15:57
to
15:57
me
15:58
want
15:59
to
15:59
do
15:59
the
15:59
things
16:00
that
16:00
I
16:00
do
16:00
because
16:01
they
16:01
see
16:01
the
16:02
excitement
16:02
that
16:03
I
16:03
have
16:03
for
16:04
what
16:04
it
16:04
is
16:04
that
16:04
I
16:05
do.
16:06
And.
16:07
And,
16:08
you
16:08
know,
16:09
whether
16:09
it's,
16:10
you
16:10
know,
16:10
learning
16:10
how
16:11
to
16:11
catch
16:11
both
16:11
in
16:12
a
16:12
gar
16:12
and
16:12
a
16:12
fly
16:13
or.
16:13
Or
16:13
learning
16:14
new
16:14
techniques
16:15
on,
16:15
you
16:15
know,
16:16
like,
16:16
how
16:16
to.
16:16
How
16:16
to.
16:17
How
16:17
to
16:17
locate
16:18
lake
16:19
trout
16:20
and
16:20
target
16:20
lake
16:21
trout
16:21
with
16:21
a
16:21
fly
16:21
rod
16:22
or
16:22
going
16:23
out
16:23
and
16:23
just
16:24
like,
16:24
how
16:24
many
16:24
different
16:25
species
16:25
can
16:26
we
16:26
get
16:26
in
16:26
a
16:26
day
16:26
on
16:27
fly?
16:29
And.
16:30
And
16:30
I
16:30
think
16:31
a
16:31
lot
16:32
of
16:32
people
16:32
really
16:32
appreciate
16:33
that.
16:33
And.
16:34
And
16:34
I've
16:34
actually
16:35
found
16:35
that
16:36
I
16:36
get
16:36
a
16:36
lot
16:37
of
16:37
guides
16:37
who
16:37
come
16:38
to
16:38
me
16:38
who
16:39
want
16:39
to
16:40
do
16:40
something
16:41
different.
16:42
Right?
16:43
Like,
16:43
we've
16:44
all
16:45
chased
16:45
trout.
16:47
And,
16:48
you
16:48
know,
16:48
that's.
16:48
That's
16:49
one
16:49
thing
16:49
that
16:49
is
16:50
like,
16:50
you
16:50
know,
16:53
we.
16:54
Fly
16:54
fishing
16:54
is
16:54
really
16:55
a
16:55
trout
16:55
culture
16:56
for
16:57
the
16:57
most
16:57
part,
16:58
but
16:58
people
16:59
are
16:59
starting
16:59
to
16:59
see,
17:00
wow,
17:00
there's.
17:00
There's
17:01
all
17:01
these
17:02
other
17:02
options
17:02
out
17:03
there.
17:03
I
17:03
mean,
17:03
it's
17:03
not
17:04
really
17:04
starting
17:04
to
17:04
see
17:04
but
17:05
are
17:06
you're
17:06
starting
17:06
to
17:06
see
17:07
it
17:07
become
17:08
more
17:09
mainstream
17:09
these
17:10
days,
17:10
I
17:10
think
17:11
and
17:12
you're
17:12
seeing
17:12
people
17:13
like
17:13
wow,
17:13
this
17:14
is,
17:14
this
17:14
is
17:14
really
17:14
exciting.
17:15
I
17:15
can
17:15
go
17:15
out
17:15
on
17:16
the
17:16
lake
17:17
and
17:17
I
17:17
have
17:18
an
17:18
opportunity
17:18
to
17:18
catch
17:19
this
17:19
ancient
17:19
predator.
17:20
But
17:20
then
17:21
I
17:21
can
17:21
also
17:21
use
17:21
like
17:22
a
17:22
three
17:22
way
17:22
rod
17:22
and
17:23
catch
17:23
these,
17:23
these
17:24
trophy
17:24
beautiful
17:25
panfish.
17:27
And
17:27
you
17:27
know
17:27
I
17:27
got
17:28
a
17:28
shot
17:28
at
17:28
catching
17:29
a
17:29
channel
17:29
catfish
17:30
that
17:30
I'm
17:30
sight
17:30
fishing
17:31
for
17:31
or
17:32
along
17:33
those
17:33
guard.
17:33
I'm
17:34
catching
17:34
it
17:34
with
17:34
a
17:34
fly
17:35
that
17:35
I'm
17:35
not
17:35
using
17:35
a
17:35
hook.
17:37
You
17:37
know,
17:37
it's
17:38
and,
17:38
and
17:39
people
17:39
are
17:39
like
17:39
this
17:40
is
17:40
pretty
17:40
amazing.
17:42
And
17:43
you
17:43
know
17:45
I
17:45
see
17:45
a
17:46
lot
17:46
of,
17:47
a
17:47
lot
17:47
of
17:47
anglers
17:48
get
17:48
really
17:49
excited
17:49
about
17:50
that
17:50
these
17:51
days
17:51
and
17:51
people
17:52
are
17:52
coming
17:52
to
17:52
me
17:52
for
17:52
that
17:53
and
17:53
that
17:53
excites
17:54
me,
17:54
you
17:54
know,
17:55
like,
17:56
you
17:57
know,
17:57
I
17:57
think
17:57
you
17:57
can
17:58
hear
17:58
in
17:58
my
17:58
voice
17:58
like
17:59
that
17:59
I
18:00
find
18:00
this
18:00
stuff
18:01
really
18:01
fun
18:03
and,
18:03
and
18:04
not,
18:05
not
18:05
knowing
18:05
exactly
18:06
what
18:06
the
18:06
day
18:06
is
18:07
going
18:07
to
18:07
bring
18:08
when
18:08
I
18:08
get
18:08
out
18:09
in,
18:09
in
18:10
some
18:10
of
18:10
the
18:10
backwaters
18:11
that
18:11
I
18:11
fish
18:13
that
18:13
you
18:13
know,
18:14
like
18:14
dropping
18:14
this
18:14
rod
18:15
and
18:15
grabbing
18:15
another
18:16
one
18:16
because
18:16
something
18:16
just
18:17
suddenly
18:17
showed
18:17
up,
18:18
you
18:18
know,
18:18
like
18:19
work
18:19
at
18:19
panfish
18:20
and
18:20
all
18:20
of
18:20
a
18:20
sudden
18:20
there's
18:20
a,
18:21
there's
18:21
a
18:21
30
18:21
inch
18:21
bowfin
18:22
that
18:22
comes
18:22
right
18:22
up
18:22
to
18:23
inspect
18:23
the
18:23
boat,
18:24
you
18:24
know
18:26
and,
18:27
and
18:28
you
18:29
know
18:30
I
18:30
love
18:30
that
18:31
stuff
18:31
and,
18:31
and
18:32
I'm
18:32
finding
18:32
more
18:33
and
18:33
more
18:33
anglers
18:34
are
18:34
loving
18:35
that
18:35
kind
18:35
of
18:36
opportunity.
18:38
Very,
18:38
very
18:38
neat.
18:39
And
18:39
so
18:39
you
18:39
know,
18:39
you
18:39
guide
18:40
you
18:40
know,
18:41
Lake
18:41
Champlain,
18:42
you
18:42
know
18:42
and
18:42
for
18:42
folks,
18:43
I
18:43
mean
18:43
I'm,
18:43
I'm
18:44
a
18:44
southerner,
18:44
so
18:45
not
18:45
super
18:45
familiar.
18:46
Yep.
18:46
So
18:47
can
18:47
you
18:47
kind
18:47
of
18:47
give
18:48
us
18:48
kind
18:48
of
18:48
a
18:48
little
18:48
bit
18:49
of
18:49
an
18:49
overview
18:49
of
18:49
the
18:49
area
18:50
and
18:50
the
18:50
fishery?
18:52
Sure,
18:52
absolutely.
18:53
So,
18:54
so
18:54
Lake
18:55
Champlain
18:56
is,
18:58
is.
18:58
It's
18:59
bordered
19:00
by
19:01
Vermont
19:01
on
19:02
the
19:02
east
19:02
side
19:02
and
19:03
New
19:03
York
19:03
on
19:03
the
19:04
west
19:04
side,
19:04
the
19:04
Adirondacks
19:05
on,
19:05
on.
19:06
On
19:06
the
19:06
New
19:06
York
19:06
side
19:07
and
19:07
the
19:07
Green
19:07
Mountains
19:08
on
19:08
the,
19:08
on
19:08
the
19:08
Vermont
19:09
side.
19:10
And
19:10
it
19:10
goes
19:11
north
19:11
into
19:11
Canada
19:12
into
19:12
Quebec.
19:13
And
19:13
10%
19:13
of
19:14
the
19:14
lake
19:14
is
19:14
in
19:15
Missisquoi
19:16
Bay,
19:16
which
19:16
is
19:16
part
19:17
of
19:17
which
19:17
is
19:18
in
19:18
Canada.
19:19
That's
19:19
a
19:19
place
19:19
I
19:19
don't,
19:20
I've
19:20
never
19:20
fished
19:21
in
19:21
in
19:21
the
19:22
Canadian
19:22
part
19:22
and
19:23
Canadian
19:23
waters
19:23
in
19:23
Lake
19:24
Champlain.
19:24
But
19:25
the
19:25
lake
19:25
itself
19:26
is
19:26
120
19:27
miles
19:27
long
19:27
and
19:28
it,
19:28
you
19:29
know
19:29
in
19:29
into
19:30
from
19:30
Canada
19:31
down
19:31
past
19:32
Whitehall,
19:33
New
19:33
York.
19:34
Both
19:34
places
19:35
the
19:35
U.S.
19:35
navy.
19:37
And
19:38
it
19:38
is
19:39
12
19:39
miles
19:40
wide
19:40
at
19:40
its
19:40
widest
19:41
point
19:41
near
19:42
burlington.
19:43
It's
19:43
about
19:43
400ft
19:44
deep
19:45
at
19:46
its
19:46
mean
19:46
level
19:47
which
19:47
is
19:48
about
19:48
96ft
19:49
above
19:49
sea
19:50
level.
19:51
It's
19:51
got
19:51
about
19:52
7
19:52
1/2
19:52
trillion
19:53
gallons
19:53
of
19:54
water.
19:55
But
19:56
I
19:56
really
19:57
like
19:57
to
19:57
think
19:58
of
19:58
Lake
19:58
Champlain
19:59
as
19:59
a
19:59
very
19:59
dynamic
20:00
system
20:02
because
20:03
it,
20:04
it's,
20:04
it's
20:04
a,
20:05
you
20:05
know,
20:05
a
20:06
big
20:06
catch
20:06
basin
20:07
right
20:07
for,
20:07
for
20:07
it's
20:08
got
20:08
a
20:08
very
20:08
large
20:08
watershed.
20:09
And
20:10
after
20:12
the
20:12
spring
20:13
melt,
20:14
Lake
20:14
Champlain
20:14
typically
20:15
will
20:15
get
20:15
to
20:16
99
20:16
to
20:17
100ft
20:17
above
20:18
sea
20:18
level,
20:19
sometimes
20:19
higher.
20:20
We
20:20
had
20:20
the
20:20
highest
20:21
lake
20:21
level
20:21
in
20:21
2011
20:22
of
20:22
103.3ft.
20:24
So
20:24
tremendous
20:25
amount
20:25
of
20:25
water
20:26
there.
20:27
And
20:29
unlike,
20:30
you
20:30
know,
20:30
Lake
20:31
Champlain
20:31
is
20:31
not
20:31
like
20:32
a
20:32
bathtub.
20:32
So
20:32
it
20:33
doesn't
20:33
just
20:33
come
20:33
straight
20:34
up
20:34
when
20:35
it
20:35
comes
20:35
out,
20:35
it
20:36
spreads
20:36
out
20:36
and
20:36
it
20:37
spreads
20:37
out
20:37
into
20:37
these,
20:38
these
20:38
large
20:39
wetlands.
20:39
We
20:39
have
20:39
these
20:40
massive
20:40
wetland
20:41
complexes
20:42
in
20:42
both
20:42
New
20:43
York
20:43
and
20:43
Vermont.
20:43
Vermont
20:44
has
20:44
a
20:44
lot
20:44
more
20:45
than
20:45
New
20:45
York.
20:46
And
20:47
you
20:47
know,
20:47
so
20:48
you
20:48
get
20:48
these
20:49
incredible
20:49
opportunities
20:50
to
20:51
fish
20:51
flooded
20:51
forests
20:52
in
20:52
the
20:52
springtime.
20:53
And
20:53
we
20:54
have
20:54
carp
20:54
and
20:55
bowfin
20:56
and,
20:56
and
20:56
pike
20:58
and
20:59
it
20:59
like
21:00
literally
21:00
in
21:00
the
21:01
trees.
21:01
It's
21:02
pretty
21:02
neat
21:02
to
21:02
be
21:02
able
21:03
to
21:03
push
21:03
coral
21:03
through
21:03
the
21:04
trees
21:05
and
21:05
find
21:06
your,
21:06
your
21:06
target
21:07
species.
21:10
But
21:10
in,
21:11
in,
21:12
in
21:12
this
21:12
late
21:13
summer,
21:14
you
21:14
know,
21:14
getting
21:14
to
21:15
September,
21:15
even
21:15
to
21:16
October,
21:17
the
21:17
lake
21:17
level
21:18
can
21:18
drop
21:18
down
21:18
as
21:19
low
21:19
as
21:21
94
21:22
or
21:22
even
21:22
93ft.
21:24
So
21:24
you
21:24
could
21:24
have
21:25
a
21:25
7
21:25
foot
21:26
lake
21:27
level
21:27
fluctuation
21:28
throughout
21:29
the
21:29
year.
21:29
And
21:30
if
21:30
we
21:30
have
21:30
like
21:30
a
21:31
big
21:31
water
21:31
event
21:31
like
21:32
when
21:32
we
21:32
had
21:32
Hurricane
21:33
Irene
21:33
or
21:33
we
21:33
had
21:33
the
21:34
big
21:34
flood
21:34
event
21:36
two
21:37
years
21:37
ago,
21:39
I
21:39
mean,
21:39
the
21:39
lake
21:39
level
21:40
came
21:40
up
21:40
two
21:41
feet
21:42
in,
21:42
in
21:43
two
21:43
days,
21:45
which
21:45
is
21:45
just
21:45
a
21:46
massive
21:46
volume
21:46
of
21:47
water.
21:48
So
21:48
it's,
21:49
it's
21:49
a
21:49
really
21:49
dynamic
21:50
system
21:51
that
21:52
can
21:52
change
21:52
a
21:52
lot.
21:53
And
21:54
every
21:55
time,
21:56
you
21:56
know,
21:56
every
21:56
year
21:57
is
21:57
new
21:57
on,
21:58
on
21:58
the
21:58
lake.
21:59
So
21:59
when
21:59
you
21:59
get
22:00
on
22:00
that
22:00
lake,
22:01
you'll
22:01
have
22:01
a
22:01
general
22:02
idea
22:02
where
22:03
those,
22:03
where
22:03
the
22:03
fish
22:04
are.
22:05
But
22:06
you
22:06
really
22:06
have
22:06
to
22:06
kind
22:06
of
22:07
relearn
22:07
it
22:07
every
22:08
year,
22:09
which
22:09
I,
22:09
you
22:10
know,
22:10
I,
22:11
I
22:12
find
22:12
that
22:12
very
22:12
exciting.
22:13
I
22:13
find
22:14
that
22:14
really
22:14
interesting.
22:14
You
22:15
know,
22:15
you
22:15
kind
22:15
of
22:15
got
22:15
a
22:16
different
22:16
playing
22:16
field
22:17
every
22:17
time
22:17
you
22:17
get
22:17
out
22:18
there.
22:19
You
22:19
know,
22:20
you
22:20
don't
22:20
know
22:21
exactly
22:21
where.
22:22
You
22:22
have
22:22
an
22:22
idea
22:23
what
22:23
everything's
22:23
going
22:23
to
22:24
be
22:24
and
22:24
how
22:24
it's
22:24
going
22:24
to
22:24
play
22:25
out,
22:25
but
22:25
you
22:25
don't
22:25
know
22:26
ex.
22:27
And
22:27
in
22:28
one
22:28
place
22:28
it
22:28
fishes
22:29
very
22:29
well
22:29
one
22:29
year,
22:30
may
22:30
not
22:30
fish
22:30
very
22:31
well
22:31
the
22:31
next
22:31
year.
22:32
So
22:32
that's,
22:33
that's
22:33
kind
22:33
of
22:33
a
22:33
neat
22:33
part
22:33
of
22:34
it.
22:34
But
22:35
we
22:35
have
22:37
88
22:37
different
22:38
species
22:38
in
22:38
the
22:38
lake.
22:39
Of
22:40
that
22:41
about
22:42
25
22:42
or
22:43
30
22:44
are
22:45
really
22:45
available
22:45
to,
22:46
to,
22:46
for
22:47
fly
22:47
anglers
22:48
to
22:48
catch.
22:49
We've
22:49
got
22:50
a
22:50
lot
22:50
of
22:50
different
22:50
panfish.
22:51
We've
22:51
got,
22:52
we've
22:52
got
22:52
some
22:53
of
22:53
the
22:53
Best.
22:53
Best
22:54
bass
22:54
fishing
22:55
in
22:55
the
22:55
country.
22:56
Lake
22:56
Champlain
22:57
is
22:57
rate
22:58
the
22:59
past
22:59
30
22:59
years
22:59
has
23:00
been
23:00
rated
23:00
by
23:00
Bassmasters
23:01
as
23:02
one
23:02
of
23:02
the
23:02
top
23:02
five
23:03
bass
23:03
lakes
23:03
in
23:04
the
23:04
country
23:04
primarily
23:05
because
23:05
of
23:05
smallmouth
23:06
bass.
23:06
The
23:07
small
23:07
mouse
23:07
fishery
23:07
here
23:08
is
23:08
just
23:09
absolutely
23:09
insane
23:11
and
23:12
I
23:12
love
23:12
chasing
23:13
them
23:13
in
23:14
the
23:14
lake.
23:14
But
23:15
what
23:15
I
23:15
find
23:15
even
23:16
more
23:16
fun
23:16
is
23:17
finding
23:17
is
23:17
chasing
23:18
them
23:18
in
23:18
the
23:18
tributaries
23:19
in
23:19
the
23:20
springtime
23:21
when
23:21
they
23:21
come
23:21
into
23:22
spawn
23:23
because
23:24
you
23:24
go
23:25
out
23:25
with
23:25
a
23:25
five
23:25
or
23:25
a
23:26
six
23:26
weight
23:27
and
23:28
you've
23:28
got.
23:29
You're
23:29
basically
23:30
fishing
23:31
like
23:32
you'd
23:32
be
23:32
fishing
23:32
for
23:32
trout
23:33
but
23:33
you're
23:33
getting
23:33
2
23:34
to
23:34
5
23:34
pound
23:34
smallmouth
23:35
instead
23:36
which,
23:36
which
23:37
doesn't
23:37
suck.
23:40
We've
23:40
got
23:40
a
23:41
lot
23:41
of
23:41
trout
23:41
or
23:42
we've
23:42
got
23:42
a
23:42
lot
23:42
of.
23:43
A
23:43
lot
23:43
of
23:44
lake
23:44
trout.
23:45
Our
23:45
lake
23:45
trout
23:45
fishery
23:46
is
23:47
fantastic.
23:49
They're
23:49
available
23:50
in
23:50
the
23:51
early
23:51
season
23:54
and
23:54
in
23:55
the
23:55
late
23:55
season.
23:55
I
23:55
kind
23:56
of
23:56
call
23:56
them
23:56
my
23:56
shoulder
23:57
season
23:58
fish.
23:59
I
24:00
so
24:00
I'll
24:00
start
24:00
catching
24:01
those
24:02
in
24:02
in
24:03
March
24:04
and
24:05
using
24:05
floating
24:06
lines
24:06
and
24:06
intermediate
24:07
lines
24:07
and
24:07
they're
24:08
available
24:08
until
24:09
the
24:09
water
24:09
starts
24:09
warming
24:10
up
24:10
to
24:10
about
24:10
45
24:11
degrees
24:11
and
24:12
they
24:12
think
24:12
stop,
24:13
start
24:13
sinking
24:13
down
24:13
a
24:13
little
24:14
bit
24:14
and
24:14
you
24:14
can
24:14
still
24:14
get
24:14
them
24:15
on
24:15
sinking
24:15
lines
24:16
down
24:16
to
24:16
about
24:16
50ft
24:19
and
24:19
then
24:19
they'll
24:19
show
24:20
back
24:20
up
24:20
again
24:21
starting
24:21
usually
24:21
in
24:22
October.
24:23
October,
24:24
November
24:24
and
24:25
December
24:25
can
24:26
be
24:26
fantastic
24:27
months
24:27
for
24:27
chasing
24:28
lakers
24:29
on
24:29
a
24:29
fly.
24:31
We've
24:31
got
24:31
some
24:32
great
24:32
salmon
24:33
runs
24:33
on
24:34
the
24:34
lake.
24:34
We've
24:34
got
24:34
landlocked
24:35
Atlantic
24:35
salmon.
24:36
We
24:36
do
24:37
have
24:37
some
24:37
steelhead
24:37
runs.
24:38
I've
24:39
got
24:39
pike,
24:40
pickerel
24:40
and
24:40
muskie.
24:41
We
24:41
have
24:41
hybrids
24:42
of
24:43
pike
24:43
and
24:43
pickerel
24:45
which
24:46
some
24:46
people
24:46
around
24:46
here
24:47
will
24:47
call
24:47
pikerel.
24:48
Really,
24:49
really
24:49
attractive
24:50
fish.
24:52
We've
24:52
got
24:53
walleye,
24:53
we've
24:54
got
24:55
bowfin.
24:56
You
24:56
know,
24:56
I.
24:57
I've
24:57
got
24:57
one
24:57
client
24:58
who's
24:58
got
24:59
almost
25:00
every
25:00
IGFA
25:01
typic
25:02
class
25:03
record
25:04
bowfin
25:05
and
25:05
most
25:05
of
25:05
them
25:06
have
25:06
been
25:06
caught
25:06
on
25:06
Lake
25:07
Champlain.
25:08
So
25:09
we
25:09
have
25:09
a
25:09
lot
25:09
of
25:09
bowfin,
25:10
we've
25:10
got
25:11
long
25:11
nose
25:12
gar.
25:12
We've
25:12
got
25:13
a
25:13
great
25:13
population
25:14
of
25:16
carp.
25:18
We
25:18
get
25:18
these
25:19
great
25:19
sucker
25:19
runs.
25:19
I
25:20
love
25:20
catching
25:20
suckers
25:21
on
25:21
a
25:21
fly.
25:21
I
25:22
actually
25:23
the
25:23
state
25:23
record,
25:23
the
25:24
Vermont
25:24
state
25:24
record
25:25
for
25:25
white
25:25
sucker
25:26
caught
25:26
on
25:26
a
25:26
fly
25:28
which
25:28
is
25:28
a
25:29
massive
25:29
white
25:29
sucker,
25:30
like
25:30
6.3
25:32
pounds
25:33
or
25:33
something
25:33
like
25:33
that.
25:34
Really
25:34
big
25:34
fish.
25:37
Let
25:37
me
25:37
see,
25:37
what
25:37
else
25:38
do
25:38
we
25:38
have?
25:38
And
25:38
we
25:38
got,
25:39
we
25:39
got
25:39
just.
25:39
There's
25:40
so
25:40
many
25:40
different
25:40
opportunities
25:42
when
25:43
you
25:43
go
25:43
out
25:43
there.
25:45
And
25:46
we've
25:46
got
25:46
freshwater
25:47
drum.
25:47
I
25:48
love,
25:48
I
25:48
love
25:48
fishing
25:48
them.
25:49
A
25:49
lot
25:49
of
25:49
people
25:49
around
25:49
here
25:50
call
25:50
them
25:50
sheepshead.
25:52
That's
25:53
one
25:53
of
25:53
the
25:53
hardest
25:53
fighting
25:54
fish
25:54
on
25:54
the
25:54
lake.
25:55
They're.
25:55
They're
25:57
really
25:57
Challenging
25:58
to
25:58
sight
25:58
fish
25:58
for,
25:59
but
25:59
you
25:59
can
25:59
also
26:00
cast
26:00
streamers
26:00
for
26:00
them.
26:01
I
26:01
get
26:02
some,
26:02
we
26:02
get
26:02
some
26:03
big
26:03
ones
26:03
up
26:04
to
26:04
around
26:04
20
26:05
pounds.
26:05
And,
26:05
and
26:06
that
26:06
will
26:06
just,
26:07
you
26:07
know,
26:08
that
26:08
will
26:09
bend
26:10
your
26:10
e
26:10
way
26:11
right
26:11
down
26:11
to
26:11
the
26:11
cork
26:12
when
26:13
you're
26:13
fighting
26:13
one
26:13
of
26:13
those
26:14
things.
26:15
It's,
26:16
it's,
26:16
it's
26:18
pretty
26:19
awesome
26:19
fishery.
26:20
I
26:21
feel
26:21
really
26:21
fortunate
26:22
to
26:22
be
26:22
here,
26:24
and
26:24
I
26:24
feel
26:25
really
26:25
fortunate
26:25
to
26:25
be,
26:25
you
26:26
know,
26:26
like
26:26
one
26:26
of
26:26
the
26:26
first
26:26
people
26:27
who's
26:27
really,
26:28
you
26:29
know,
26:29
promoting
26:30
Lake
26:30
Champlain
26:31
fly
26:31
fishing.
26:33
Very,
26:33
very
26:33
neat.
26:34
And
26:34
you'd
26:34
mentioned
26:34
earlier
26:35
that
26:35
you,
26:35
you
26:36
know,
26:36
you
26:36
basically
26:36
had
26:37
to
26:37
relearn
26:38
the
26:38
lake
26:39
every
26:39
year.
26:39
And,
26:39
you
26:39
know,
26:40
most
26:40
of
26:40
my
26:40
guide
26:40
guests
26:41
are,
26:41
you
26:42
know,
26:42
creek
26:42
and
26:42
river
26:43
guides.
26:43
And
26:43
so,
26:43
you
26:43
know,
26:44
is
26:44
that
26:44
the
26:44
main
26:45
difference,
26:45
you
26:45
know,
26:46
fishing
26:46
in
26:47
a
26:47
lake
26:47
or
26:47
is.
26:48
Are
26:48
there
26:48
other
26:48
things
26:49
that
26:49
make
26:49
the
26:49
lake
26:49
game
26:50
different?
26:51
Oh,
26:52
there's,
26:52
there's
26:52
so
26:52
many
26:52
things
26:53
that
26:53
make
26:53
it
26:53
different.
26:54
I
26:54
mean,
26:57
you
26:57
know,
26:59
you
26:59
got
26:59
to
26:59
deal
26:59
with
27:00
boat
27:00
traffic.
27:01
You
27:01
really
27:02
have
27:02
to
27:02
know
27:02
how
27:03
to
27:03
play
27:03
the
27:04
weather.
27:05
You
27:05
know,
27:06
like
27:06
if
27:06
you're.
27:07
I'm
27:08
fishing
27:08
in,
27:09
in
27:09
a
27:09
towie
27:10
on
27:11
this
27:11
lake
27:11
and
27:12
this
27:12
is,
27:12
this
27:12
is
27:13
a
27:13
big
27:13
lake.
27:14
You
27:14
know,
27:14
it's
27:14
a,
27:14
it's
27:14
a
27:15
very
27:15
large
27:15
lake.
27:17
And,
27:19
you
27:19
know,
27:19
if
27:20
I
27:21
am
27:21
not
27:22
paying
27:22
close
27:22
attention
27:23
to
27:23
the
27:24
weather,
27:24
I
27:24
could
27:24
be
27:25
in
27:25
deep
27:25
trouble.
27:26
You
27:26
know,
27:26
you
27:27
really
27:27
have
27:27
to
27:27
know
27:28
what
27:28
bays
27:29
are
27:29
safe
27:30
with
27:30
the
27:31
direction
27:31
of
27:31
the
27:32
wind.
27:32
You
27:32
got
27:32
to
27:32
be
27:33
really
27:33
paying
27:34
attention
27:35
to
27:36
that
27:36
wind
27:36
forecast,
27:37
the
27:37
weather
27:37
forecast,
27:38
and
27:38
then
27:38
just
27:38
paying
27:39
attention
27:39
when
27:39
you're
27:39
on
27:39
the
27:40
water,
27:40
because
27:41
things
27:41
can
27:41
go
27:41
wrong
27:42
very,
27:42
very
27:42
quickly,
27:44
you
27:44
know,
27:44
especially
27:45
when
27:45
the
27:45
water
27:45
is
27:46
cold.
27:47
You
27:47
know,
27:47
when
27:47
the,
27:48
when
27:48
the
27:48
water
27:49
is,
27:49
is
27:50
below
27:50
60
27:51
degrees,
27:51
you
27:51
know,
27:52
that's,
27:52
that's
27:53
a
27:53
dangerous
27:53
place
27:53
this
27:54
is
27:54
now.
27:56
And
27:57
I,
27:58
you
27:58
know,
27:58
I
27:58
take
27:58
safety
27:59
very
27:59
seriously
28:00
on
28:00
the
28:00
lake.
28:03
If
28:05
it's
28:05
a
28:06
lake
28:06
where
28:07
things
28:08
can
28:08
change
28:09
very
28:09
dramatically
28:10
very
28:10
quickly.
28:11
I
28:11
can
28:12
remember
28:12
one
28:12
day
28:13
I
28:13
was
28:13
out
28:13
with
28:14
my
28:14
Bowfin
28:15
client,
28:16
Richard
28:16
Hart,
28:17
one
28:17
of
28:17
my
28:17
Bowfin
28:18
clients,
28:19
and
28:19
he's
28:20
the
28:20
guy
28:20
who's
28:20
got
28:21
all
28:21
the
28:21
IGFA
28:22
records.
28:23
And
28:23
Rich
28:24
and
28:24
I
28:24
were.
28:25
This
28:25
is
28:25
back
28:26
when
28:26
I
28:26
was
28:26
guiding
28:26
out
28:26
of
28:26
a
28:27
canoe
28:28
and
28:28
Rich
28:28
and
28:28
I
28:28
were
28:29
out
28:29
in
28:29
this
28:30
backwater
28:31
and
28:33
we
28:33
had
28:33
a
28:33
light
28:33
chop
28:34
on
28:34
the
28:34
water.
28:34
It
28:34
was
28:34
maybe
28:35
3
28:35
or
28:35
4
28:35
inch
28:35
chop.
28:36
And
28:36
I
28:36
just
28:36
saw
28:37
this
28:37
dark
28:37
cloud
28:38
coming
28:38
across
28:38
the
28:39
lake
28:39
and
28:39
I
28:39
was
28:40
like,
28:40
rich,
28:41
I'm
28:41
really
28:41
concerned
28:42
about
28:42
that.
28:42
And
28:43
it
28:43
started
28:43
getting
28:43
in
28:44
closer
28:44
and
28:44
the
28:44
wind
28:44
started
28:45
picking
28:45
up
28:45
and
28:46
it
28:46
went
28:46
from
28:46
a
28:46
3
28:46
to
28:47
4
28:47
inch
28:47
chop
28:47
to
28:48
a
28:48
3
28:48
to
28:48
4
28:49
inch
28:49
crashing
28:50
waves.
28:51
And
28:51
we
28:52
had
28:52
a
28:52
mile
28:53
and
28:53
A
28:53
half
28:53
to
28:53
paddle
28:54
back
28:54
to
28:54
the
28:54
launch.
28:55
And
28:56
that
28:56
was
28:57
one
28:57
of
28:57
the
28:57
most
28:57
frightening
28:58
moments
28:58
I've
28:58
ever
28:58
had
28:59
on
28:59
that
28:59
lake.
29:00
But
29:00
it
29:00
went
29:00
from,
29:01
it
29:02
went
29:02
from
29:02
zero
29:03
to
29:03
60
29:04
in,
29:04
in
29:04
under
29:05
five
29:05
minutes,
29:06
you
29:06
know,
29:07
so
29:08
you
29:08
really
29:08
have
29:08
to
29:08
keep
29:09
your
29:09
widget
29:09
value
29:09
on
29:10
the
29:10
lake.
29:12
And,
29:13
you
29:13
know,
29:13
you
29:13
kind
29:13
of
29:13
have
29:13
to
29:13
watch
29:14
out
29:14
for
29:14
other
29:14
boaters.
29:15
You
29:15
got
29:15
to
29:15
watch
29:15
out
29:15
for
29:16
other
29:16
anglers.
29:17
We
29:17
have
29:17
a
29:17
lot
29:17
of
29:17
bass
29:18
tournaments
29:18
on
29:18
this
29:18
lake,
29:20
and
29:21
sometimes
29:22
they
29:23
don't
29:23
always
29:23
respect
29:24
the
29:24
other
29:24
anglers
29:25
who
29:25
are
29:25
not
29:26
targeting
29:26
bass.
29:27
I've
29:27
had
29:28
them
29:28
blow
29:28
in
29:28
front
29:28
of
29:29
me
29:29
a
29:29
few
29:29
times,
29:31
but,
29:33
you
29:33
know,
29:33
it's,
29:34
it's,
29:34
it's
29:34
a
29:34
really
29:35
different
29:35
environment.
29:35
And
29:36
you
29:36
know,
29:37
like,
29:40
there,
29:40
there
29:40
are
29:41
times
29:41
you
29:41
can
29:41
go
29:41
into
29:42
a
29:42
place
29:43
where
29:44
you
29:44
have,
29:44
you
29:45
know,
29:45
like,
29:45
carp
29:46
are
29:46
notorious
29:46
for
29:47
this.
29:47
I
29:47
can
29:47
go
29:48
into
29:48
a
29:48
bay
29:48
where
29:48
I
29:49
normally
29:49
will
29:49
find
29:49
a
29:49
lot
29:50
of
29:50
carp.
29:51
And,
29:51
you
29:51
know,
29:52
the
29:52
day
29:52
before
29:53
there
29:53
was
29:53
carp
29:54
everywhere.
29:54
I
29:54
go
29:54
in
29:55
there
29:55
the
29:55
next
29:55
day,
29:56
you.
29:56
You
29:56
can't
29:57
find
29:57
a
29:57
fish.
29:57
You
29:58
can't,
29:58
like,
29:59
no
29:59
idea
29:59
where
29:59
they
29:59
went.
30:00
You
30:00
know,
30:01
like,
30:01
they
30:01
just
30:01
disappeared
30:02
overnight.
30:04
They
30:04
may
30:05
have
30:05
gone
30:05
into
30:05
deeper
30:06
water.
30:07
You
30:07
know,
30:08
something
30:08
may
30:08
have
30:08
happened
30:11
that,
30:12
you
30:13
know,
30:13
big
30:13
question
30:14
mark
30:15
and
30:15
one
30:15
I
30:16
have
30:16
never
30:16
figured
30:17
out.
30:20
But
30:20
it's,
30:20
it's,
30:21
it's
30:22
a
30:22
really,
30:22
it
30:23
could
30:23
be
30:23
a
30:23
very
30:24
variable
30:25
system.
30:26
And
30:26
you're
30:26
also
30:27
dealing
30:27
with,
30:29
especially
30:29
when
30:30
you're
30:30
dealing
30:30
with
30:30
cooler
30:31
water
30:31
fish
30:32
or,
30:32
or
30:33
sold
30:33
water
30:34
fish
30:34
like
30:34
the
30:34
lake
30:34
trout
30:35
or
30:35
pike.
30:36
As
30:37
that
30:37
water
30:38
warms
30:38
up
30:38
in
30:38
the
30:38
lake,
30:39
those
30:39
fish
30:40
start
30:40
moving
30:40
deeper
30:41
and
30:41
they
30:42
find,
30:42
they
30:42
move,
30:42
they
30:43
start
30:43
using
30:43
different
30:44
habitats
30:44
than
30:45
they
30:45
were
30:45
using
30:45
earlier
30:46
in
30:46
the
30:46
season,
30:47
and
30:48
they
30:48
will
30:48
move
30:48
back
30:48
to
30:49
those
30:49
habitats.
30:50
So
30:50
you
30:50
kind
30:50
of
30:50
have
30:50
to
30:51
know,
30:52
you
30:52
know,
30:53
that
30:53
progression
30:54
of
30:54
where
30:55
they're
30:55
going
30:55
to
30:55
head
30:55
to
30:56
and
30:56
when
30:57
they're
30:57
going
30:57
to
30:57
head
30:58
there.
30:59
And
30:59
that's
31:00
not
31:00
something
31:00
that
31:00
you
31:01
can,
31:01
you
31:02
know,
31:02
learn
31:02
overnight.
31:03
You,
31:03
you
31:03
really
31:04
have
31:04
to
31:04
spend
31:04
a
31:04
lot
31:04
of
31:04
time,
31:05
you
31:05
know,
31:06
watching
31:07
and
31:07
observing
31:08
what's
31:08
going
31:08
on.
31:10
And
31:10
on
31:10
a
31:10
lake
31:11
this
31:11
size,
31:12
you
31:12
know,
31:12
like,
31:13
I,
31:13
I
31:14
consider
31:14
myself
31:14
a
31:15
student
31:15
of
31:15
the
31:15
lake
31:16
because
31:16
every
31:16
time
31:16
I
31:16
get
31:17
on
31:17
that
31:17
lake,
31:18
I
31:18
learn
31:18
something
31:18
new.
31:19
I
31:19
learned
31:20
something
31:20
different
31:21
that
31:21
I
31:21
hadn't
31:21
learned
31:21
before.
31:22
It
31:22
might
31:23
be
31:23
a
31:23
new
31:23
location,
31:23
it
31:24
might
31:24
be
31:24
a
31:25
new
31:25
way
31:25
to
31:25
fish.
31:27
Different
31:27
parts
31:28
of
31:28
the
31:28
lake
31:28
or
31:28
for
31:29
different
31:29
species
31:30
are
31:31
like,
31:31
wow,
31:31
I,
31:31
I
31:32
never
31:32
realized
31:32
these
31:33
species
31:34
were,
31:34
were
31:34
utilizing
31:35
this
31:35
habitat
31:36
this
31:36
time
31:37
of
31:37
the
31:37
year.
31:38
So
31:38
you
31:39
really
31:39
kind
31:39
of,
31:39
you
31:40
know,
31:40
when
31:40
you're
31:41
out
31:41
there,
31:42
being
31:42
very
31:42
observant
31:43
really
31:43
pays
31:44
off.
31:45
And
31:46
being
31:46
willing
31:46
to
31:46
talk
31:46
to
31:47
a
31:47
lot
31:47
of
31:47
other
31:47
people
31:48
and
31:48
seeing
31:48
what
31:48
they're
31:49
having
31:49
for
31:49
experiences.
31:50
I
31:50
talk
31:50
to
31:50
a
31:51
lot
31:51
of
31:51
conventional
31:51
anglers.
31:52
I
31:52
have
31:52
a
31:52
lot
31:52
of
31:52
friends
31:52
who
31:52
are
31:52
conventional
31:53
anglers,
31:53
and
31:55
they'll
31:55
tell
31:56
me
31:56
a
31:56
lot
31:56
of
31:56
stuff.
31:57
They
31:57
may
31:57
be
31:57
not.
31:58
May
31:58
not
31:58
be
31:58
going
31:59
after
31:59
the
31:59
species
32:00
that
32:00
I'm
32:00
going
32:00
after,
32:01
but
32:01
they'll
32:01
see
32:01
them.
32:03
They'll
32:03
be
32:03
like,
32:03
oh,
32:03
yeah,
32:04
that
32:04
bay
32:04
over
32:04
there
32:04
is
32:04
loaded
32:05
with
32:05
carb.
32:05
Okay,
32:06
great,
32:06
you
32:06
know,
32:07
Or
32:07
I've
32:07
seen
32:07
a
32:07
lot
32:07
of
32:08
bowfin
32:08
and
32:09
X,
32:09
Y
32:09
or
32:10
Z,
32:10
and
32:10
I'll
32:11
go
32:11
check
32:11
it
32:11
out.
32:13
And
32:13
that
32:13
can
32:13
be
32:14
really
32:14
helpful,
32:15
you
32:16
know.
32:16
But
32:17
the.
32:17
The
32:17
different
32:18
parts
32:18
of
32:18
the
32:18
lake
32:19
are
32:20
dramatically
32:21
different,
32:21
too.
32:21
Like
32:22
the
32:22
broad
32:22
lake
32:23
that
32:23
I'm
32:23
near
32:23
here,
32:24
I'm
32:24
in
32:24
Charlotte,
32:26
Vermont,
32:27
and
32:28
the
32:28
broad.
32:29
This
32:29
is
32:30
a
32:30
section
32:30
of
32:30
the
32:30
lake
32:30
we
32:30
call
32:31
the
32:31
Broad
32:31
Lake.
32:32
The
32:32
Broad
32:32
lake
32:33
is,
32:33
you
32:33
know,
32:34
big
32:34
and
32:34
deep.
32:35
You
32:35
get
32:36
down
32:36
to
32:36
the.
32:36
To
32:37
the
32:37
southern
32:37
end
32:38
of
32:38
the
32:38
lake
32:39
in
32:39
Orwell
32:40
and
32:40
the
32:40
Whitehall
32:41
area
32:42
down
32:42
there.
32:43
It's
32:43
kind
32:43
of
32:43
like
32:43
more
32:44
like
32:44
a
32:44
big
32:44
muddy
32:44
river.
32:46
So
32:46
it's
32:46
incredibly
32:47
different
32:48
environment.
32:50
Yeah,
32:52
it's
32:53
radically
32:53
different
32:54
than
32:54
streams
32:55
and
32:55
rivers.
32:56
Yeah,
32:56
very,
32:56
very
32:56
interesting.
32:57
And
32:57
so,
32:57
you
32:57
know,
32:57
you've
32:58
got
32:58
this
32:58
incredibly,
32:59
you
33:00
know,
33:01
diverse
33:02
lake
33:02
with
33:02
all
33:02
these
33:03
different
33:03
species.
33:04
Tell
33:04
me
33:04
a
33:04
little
33:04
bit
33:04
about
33:05
how
33:05
you,
33:06
you
33:06
know,
33:06
map
33:07
that
33:07
to
33:07
various
33:07
angling
33:08
experiences
33:08
at
33:09
Masterclass
33:09
Angling.
33:11
Well,
33:12
you
33:12
know,
33:12
a
33:12
lot
33:12
of
33:12
it
33:13
is
33:13
depending
33:14
on,
33:14
you
33:14
know,
33:14
what.
33:14
What
33:15
somebody
33:15
wants
33:15
to
33:15
do
33:16
or.
33:16
Or
33:16
the
33:17
time
33:17
of
33:17
the
33:17
year.
33:18
You
33:18
know,
33:18
I'll
33:19
get
33:19
people
33:19
who
33:19
reach
33:19
out
33:20
to
33:20
me,
33:20
and
33:20
they'll
33:20
be
33:20
like,
33:20
hey,
33:21
are.
33:21
Are
33:21
you
33:21
guiding
33:22
right
33:22
now?
33:22
And.
33:23
And,
33:23
you
33:23
know,
33:24
if.
33:24
If.
33:24
If
33:24
the
33:25
lake
33:25
is
33:25
open
33:26
and
33:26
I
33:26
can
33:26
get
33:26
my
33:27
boat
33:27
out
33:27
there,
33:28
you
33:29
know,
33:29
generally
33:29
the
33:29
answer
33:30
is
33:30
yes,
33:30
as
33:30
long
33:30
as
33:30
the
33:30
weather
33:31
is
33:31
conducive
33:32
to
33:32
get
33:32
out
33:32
there,
33:33
you
33:33
know,
33:34
and
33:36
lake
33:36
trout
33:37
are
33:37
a
33:37
great
33:37
option
33:37
in
33:38
the
33:38
early
33:38
season.
33:39
But,
33:40
you
33:41
know,
33:41
sometimes
33:42
people
33:42
will
33:42
come
33:42
to
33:42
me
33:42
and
33:43
they'll
33:43
be
33:43
like,
33:43
I
33:43
really
33:44
want
33:44
to
33:44
catch
33:44
a
33:44
bowfin
33:45
or
33:45
I
33:45
really
33:45
want
33:45
to
33:45
catch
33:46
a
33:46
gar.
33:46
And
33:47
I'm
33:47
like,
33:47
great,
33:47
let's.
33:48
Let's
33:48
do
33:48
it
33:50
and
33:50
get
33:51
out
33:51
and
33:52
teach
33:52
them
33:52
the
33:52
techniques
33:53
that
33:53
they
33:53
need
33:54
to
33:55
be
33:55
able
33:55
to
33:55
catch
33:55
those.
33:56
But,
33:56
you
33:56
know,
33:57
a
33:57
lot
33:57
of
33:57
it
33:57
is.
33:58
It.
33:58
I.
33:59
I
33:59
try
33:59
to
33:59
base
33:59
it
34:00
on,
34:00
you
34:00
know,
34:01
not
34:01
only
34:02
the
34:02
time
34:02
of
34:02
the
34:02
year,
34:02
but,
34:03
you
34:03
know,
34:03
what
34:03
people
34:04
want
34:04
to
34:04
experience.
34:05
And.
34:06
And
34:06
I'll
34:06
be
34:07
pretty
34:07
upfront
34:07
with
34:07
people
34:08
like,
34:08
you
34:08
know,
34:08
here's
34:09
what's.
34:09
Here's
34:10
what's
34:10
going
34:10
on
34:10
right
34:10
now.
34:11
Or,
34:12
you
34:12
know,
34:12
you
34:12
want
34:12
to
34:13
catch
34:13
pike.
34:13
You
34:14
know,
34:14
this
34:14
is.
34:15
We're
34:15
right
34:15
in
34:15
the
34:15
middle.
34:16
It's.
34:16
It's
34:16
August
34:17
we're,
34:18
this
34:19
is
34:19
not
34:19
the
34:19
time
34:19
to
34:19
be
34:20
chasing
34:20
pike.
34:20
If
34:20
you
34:21
really
34:21
want
34:21
to
34:21
come
34:21
to
34:22
see
34:22
me
34:22
and
34:22
get
34:23
into
34:23
some
34:23
pike,
34:24
your
34:24
best
34:25
bet
34:25
is
34:25
to
34:25
hit
34:26
me
34:26
up
34:26
in
34:27
late
34:27
April
34:28
or
34:28
May
34:29
into
34:29
June,
34:30
and
34:30
then
34:31
again
34:31
in
34:32
like
34:32
October,
34:33
November,
34:33
even
34:33
into
34:34
December.
34:35
That's
34:35
when
34:35
we
34:35
have
34:35
good
34:36
chances
34:36
at
34:37
pike
34:37
and
34:38
some
34:38
trophy
34:38
fish.
34:39
Some
34:39
trophy
34:40
pike
34:40
during
34:40
that,
34:41
that
34:41
time
34:41
period,
34:43
you
34:44
know,
34:44
I,
34:44
I
34:45
kind
34:45
of,
34:47
you
34:47
know,
34:48
I
34:50
use
34:50
the
34:51
available
34:51
resources
34:53
for
34:53
when
34:53
they
34:54
are
34:54
coming
34:55
to
34:55
see
34:55
me
34:55
or
34:55
I
34:56
let
34:56
them
34:56
know,
34:57
like,
34:57
hey,
34:57
you
34:58
know,
34:58
you
34:58
want
34:58
to
34:58
get
34:58
both
34:59
in
35:00
May
35:00
through
35:01
September
35:02
is
35:02
your
35:03
best,
35:03
best
35:03
bet.
35:04
So
35:04
hit
35:04
me
35:05
up
35:05
during
35:05
those,
35:06
that
35:06
time
35:06
period,
35:07
you
35:07
know.
35:08
Yeah,
35:09
it's,
35:09
it's
35:09
neat
35:09
too,
35:10
right?
35:10
Cause
35:10
I
35:10
mean,
35:10
you
35:10
know,
35:11
from
35:11
looking
35:11
at
35:11
your
35:11
website
35:12
and
35:12
doing
35:12
research
35:12
for
35:12
the
35:12
interview,
35:13
I
35:13
mean,
35:13
you've
35:13
got,
35:14
do
35:14
you
35:14
want
35:14
to
35:14
wade?
35:15
Do
35:15
you
35:15
want
35:15
to
35:15
sight
35:16
fish?
35:16
Do
35:16
you
35:16
want
35:16
to
35:16
fish
35:17
from
35:17
the
35:17
boat?
35:17
It
35:17
sounds
35:17
like
35:18
you
35:18
kind
35:18
of
35:18
offer
35:18
it
35:18
all.
35:20
I,
35:20
I
35:20
really
35:20
do.
35:21
You
35:21
know,
35:22
I,
35:22
I've,
35:24
I
35:25
offer
35:25
muskie
35:26
trips
35:26
in,
35:26
in
35:27
muskie
35:28
rivers
35:28
in
35:28
northern
35:29
New
35:29
York.
35:30
I
35:30
do
35:30
walk
35:31
and
35:31
wait
35:31
smallmouth
35:32
trips.
35:32
Like
35:33
I
35:33
said,
35:33
I,
35:33
I
35:33
will
35:34
do
35:34
some
35:34
trout
35:34
trips
35:35
here
35:35
and
35:35
there.
35:35
I,
35:35
I
35:36
know
35:36
some
35:36
great
35:36
trophy
35:37
trout
35:38
streams
35:38
in
35:38
Vermont
35:41
and
35:41
in
35:41
northern
35:42
New
35:42
York.
35:42
I've
35:42
got,
35:42
I've
35:43
got
35:43
some,
35:43
you
35:43
know,
35:44
I
35:44
spent
35:44
a
35:44
lot
35:44
of
35:44
time
35:45
in,
35:45
in,
35:45
in
35:45
northern
35:46
New
35:46
York.
35:47
That's
35:47
where
35:47
I
35:47
grew
35:47
up.
35:49
I
35:50
offer
35:51
landlocked
35:51
salmon
35:52
trips
35:52
on
35:53
Lake
35:53
Champlain
35:53
tributaries
35:54
and
35:54
Lake
35:54
Metro,
35:55
Magog
35:55
tributaries,
35:56
Clyde
35:56
river,
35:58
and
35:59
you
35:59
know,
36:00
there's
36:00
steelhead
36:01
opportunities
36:03
on
36:03
both
36:03
sides
36:03
of
36:04
the
36:04
lake.
36:05
You
36:06
know,
36:06
that.
36:06
And
36:06
that's
36:07
all
36:07
walk
36:07
and
36:07
wade.
36:08
So
36:09
there's,
36:09
you
36:10
know,
36:11
I
36:12
love
36:12
having
36:13
diversity
36:14
like
36:14
that
36:14
at
36:14
my
36:15
fingertips,
36:16
you
36:16
know,
36:16
and
36:17
I've
36:17
had
36:17
people
36:18
who,
36:19
you
36:20
know,
36:20
I've
36:20
got,
36:20
I've
36:20
got
36:21
some
36:21
clients
36:21
lined
36:21
up
36:23
in
36:25
April
36:26
that
36:27
want
36:27
to
36:27
do
36:28
one
36:28
day
36:28
a
36:28
walk
36:29
away
36:29
trout
36:29
fishing
36:29
and
36:30
then
36:30
they
36:30
want
36:30
to
36:30
head
36:30
out
36:30
in
36:31
the
36:31
lake
36:31
and
36:31
see
36:31
what
36:31
they
36:31
can
36:32
get.
36:33
I'm
36:33
stoked
36:33
for
36:34
that.
36:34
You
36:34
know,
36:36
I
36:37
love
36:37
those
36:37
challenges.
36:38
I
36:39
love
36:39
keeping
36:39
things
36:41
variable
36:41
and
36:43
really,
36:43
you
36:43
know,
36:44
exploring
36:44
the
36:45
diversity
36:45
of
36:46
fishing
36:47
opportunities
36:48
that
36:48
we
36:48
have
36:49
in
36:49
Vermont
36:50
and
36:51
in
36:51
northern
36:52
New
36:52
York,
36:52
you
36:52
know.
36:53
Yeah,
36:53
it's
36:54
neat
36:54
too,
36:54
right?
36:54
Because
36:55
I
36:55
know
36:55
you're
36:55
particularly
36:56
proud
36:56
of
36:56
your
36:56
bowfin
36:57
fishery
36:57
and
36:57
I
36:57
was
36:58
kind
36:58
of
36:58
curious,
36:58
you
36:58
know.
36:59
Yeah,
36:59
obviously
36:59
you're
37:00
fishing
37:00
for
37:00
all
37:00
kinds
37:01
of,
37:01
you
37:01
know,
37:01
we'll
37:01
just
37:02
call
37:02
them
37:02
fly
37:02
fishing
37:02
exotics,
37:04
but,
37:04
you
37:05
know,
37:05
but
37:05
what
37:05
attracted
37:06
you
37:06
to
37:06
start
37:07
chasing
37:07
bowfin
37:07
on
37:08
the
37:08
fly?
37:10
Just
37:10
to
37:10
be
37:11
blunt,
37:11
they
37:11
are
37:12
the
37:12
biggest
37:13
badasses
37:14
out
37:14
there.
37:15
They're
37:15
really
37:16
incredible
37:16
fish.
37:17
Like
37:18
I,
37:18
there
37:18
is
37:19
no
37:19
other
37:19
fish
37:20
that
37:20
I've
37:21
encountered
37:22
that
37:22
will
37:22
swim
37:23
up
37:23
to
37:23
you
37:23
and
37:23
look
37:24
you
37:24
in
37:24
the
37:24
eyes.
37:26
They
37:27
are,
37:28
they're
37:28
very
37:29
aggressive,
37:30
they're
37:30
very
37:31
intelligent.
37:32
They're
37:33
a
37:33
native
37:33
species.
37:34
They're
37:36
basically
37:36
unchanged
37:37
for
37:37
the
37:37
past
37:37
300
37:38
million
37:38
years.
37:39
You
37:39
know,
37:39
they're
37:40
not
37:40
the
37:40
same
37:41
species
37:41
in
37:41
the
37:41
fossil
37:42
record,
37:42
but
37:42
if
37:42
you
37:42
look
37:43
at
37:43
a
37:43
fossil
37:43
record,
37:44
when
37:44
T.
37:44
Rex
37:45
is
37:45
roaming
37:45
the
37:45
earth,
37:46
a
37:47
fossil
37:47
bowfin
37:47
from
37:48
when
37:48
T.
37:48
Rex
37:48
is
37:49
roaming
37:49
the
37:49
earth,
37:50
you
37:50
can
37:50
tell
37:50
that
37:51
it's
37:51
a
37:51
bowfin.
37:51
And
37:51
it
37:52
looks
37:52
almost
37:52
exactly
37:53
at
37:53
the
37:53
bowfin
37:53
we
37:53
got
37:54
around
37:54
here
37:54
right
37:54
now.
37:56
It's
37:56
pretty
37:56
amazing.
37:57
I
37:57
mean
37:58
they,
37:59
the
38:00
males
38:01
in
38:01
the
38:01
springtime
38:02
have
38:02
incredible
38:03
colors.
38:04
Their
38:05
fins
38:05
get
38:05
turquoise,
38:06
they
38:06
get
38:06
an
38:06
emerald
38:07
green
38:09
color
38:10
on
38:10
their
38:10
sides.
38:11
Their
38:11
bellies
38:11
kind
38:11
of
38:12
get
38:12
this,
38:12
this
38:13
pumpkin
38:13
yellow,
38:14
orange.
38:16
And
38:16
their
38:16
eye
38:17
spot,
38:17
they've
38:18
got
38:18
this
38:18
orange
38:19
eye
38:19
spot
38:19
that's
38:20
almost
38:20
glowing,
38:21
it's
38:21
so
38:21
orange.
38:22
And
38:23
they
38:23
get
38:23
incredibly
38:27
territorial
38:28
and
38:28
aggressive
38:29
when
38:29
they're
38:30
defending
38:30
their
38:30
babies.
38:31
I
38:32
actually,
38:32
I
38:33
had
38:33
one,
38:34
I
38:35
was
38:35
in
38:35
this
38:36
backwater,
38:36
I
38:36
was
38:37
in
38:37
a
38:37
flooded
38:38
forest
38:38
and
38:39
we,
38:40
we
38:40
found
38:41
this
38:41
little
38:41
male
38:42
was
38:42
22
38:42
inches.
38:43
I
38:43
know
38:43
because
38:43
we
38:43
ended
38:44
up
38:44
catching
38:44
this
38:44
thing.
38:45
But
38:45
it,
38:46
it
38:46
saw
38:46
the
38:47
nose
38:47
of
38:47
the
38:47
boat
38:47
come
38:48
in
38:48
and
38:49
it
38:49
literally
38:50
jumped
38:51
out
38:51
of
38:51
the
38:51
water
38:52
and
38:52
bit
38:53
the
38:53
bow
38:53
in
38:53
this
38:53
boat.
38:54
And
38:55
you
38:56
know,
38:56
like
38:56
here's
38:57
a
38:57
22
38:57
inch
38:57
fish
38:58
going
38:58
after
38:58
a
38:59
15
38:59
foot
39:00
boat
39:00
to
39:01
defend
39:01
its
39:02
babies.
39:02
You
39:03
know
39:03
there's,
39:04
that
39:04
is
39:05
just
39:05
really
39:06
cool
39:07
watching
39:08
how
39:08
they
39:09
stock
39:09
their
39:10
prey,
39:10
how
39:11
they'll
39:11
come
39:11
in
39:13
the
39:13
dorsal
39:14
fin.
39:14
You
39:15
know,
39:15
it,
39:15
it
39:16
just
39:16
this,
39:16
it
39:17
undulates
39:19
and,
39:20
and
39:20
you
39:20
can
39:20
really
39:21
tell
39:21
a
39:21
lot
39:21
about
39:22
how
39:22
that
39:23
fish
39:23
is
39:25
behaving
39:25
and
39:25
what
39:26
it's
39:26
thinking
39:26
by
39:27
what
39:27
that,
39:27
what
39:28
that
39:28
dorsal
39:28
fin
39:29
is
39:29
doing
39:30
and
39:30
the
39:30
way
39:30
they
39:31
do
39:31
the
39:31
smash
39:31
and
39:32
grab
39:33
when
39:33
they're,
39:34
when
39:34
they're
39:34
in
39:34
close
39:35
because
39:35
it's,
39:36
it.
39:36
Bowfin
39:37
fishing
39:37
is
39:37
almost
39:38
all
39:39
sight
39:39
fishing.
39:40
It
39:40
is,
39:41
it's
39:41
not
39:41
particularly
39:42
difficult
39:42
fly
39:43
fishing.
39:43
It's
39:43
really
39:43
dapping
39:45
or,
39:45
or
39:45
jigging
39:47
with
39:47
a
39:47
fly
39:47
rod.
39:48
But
39:49
you're
39:49
hunting
39:49
fish.
39:50
I'm
39:51
on
39:51
the
39:51
polling
39:51
platform,
39:52
I
39:52
have
39:52
my
39:52
client
39:52
in
39:53
the
39:53
front.
39:53
And
39:53
you're
39:54
looking
39:54
for
39:54
these
39:55
fish
39:56
and,
39:57
and,
39:58
and
39:58
if
39:58
the
39:58
fish,
39:59
you
39:59
know,
40:00
bites
40:00
the
40:00
fly
40:02
and
40:02
gets
40:03
off
40:04
it,
40:05
it's
40:05
not
40:05
gone.
40:06
I've
40:06
had
40:07
them,
40:08
I
40:08
see
40:08
this
40:08
all
40:08
the
40:09
time.
40:09
They'll,
40:10
they'll
40:10
grab
40:10
the
40:10
fly,
40:11
they'll
40:11
feel
40:11
the
40:11
hook,
40:12
they'll
40:12
shoot
40:13
off,
40:13
they'll
40:14
turn
40:14
around
40:14
and
40:15
they'll
40:15
come
40:15
in
40:15
from
40:15
a
40:15
different
40:16
angle
40:16
to
40:16
find
40:17
out
40:17
what
40:17
that
40:17
was.
40:18
And
40:18
you
40:18
Get
40:19
a
40:19
second
40:19
shot
40:19
at
40:20
them.
40:22
I
40:22
mean
40:23
that
40:24
really
40:25
cool.
40:25
I
40:25
mean
40:26
my,
40:26
my
40:26
very
40:26
first
40:27
bowfin
40:27
guiding
40:28
experience,
40:29
I
40:30
was
40:30
in
40:30
my
40:30
canoe,
40:31
we
40:31
were
40:31
going
40:31
through
40:32
this
40:32
backwater
40:32
and
40:33
these
40:33
lily
40:33
pads
40:34
and
40:34
I
40:35
hit
40:35
a
40:35
bowfin
40:37
and
40:37
the
40:37
thing
40:37
shot
40:38
off
40:38
and
40:38
I
40:38
washed
40:39
it
40:39
and
40:39
turned
40:39
around
40:40
and
40:40
came
40:40
back
40:41
and
40:41
looked
40:42
at
40:42
the
40:42
canoe
40:42
to
40:43
see
40:43
what
40:43
hit
40:43
it.
40:44
My
40:44
client
40:46
got
40:47
a
40:47
fly
40:47
in
40:47
front
40:47
of
40:47
it.
40:48
It
40:48
grabbed
40:48
it.
40:49
He's
40:50
got
40:50
it
40:50
on
40:51
and
40:51
it
40:52
circles
40:52
around
40:53
some
40:53
lily
40:53
stems,
40:54
gets
40:55
off.
40:56
He
40:56
gets
40:56
to
40:56
fly
40:57
out
40:57
of
40:57
the
40:57
lily
40:57
stems.
40:58
The
40:58
fish
40:59
comes
40:59
back
40:59
and
40:59
he
41:00
looks
41:00
at
41:00
the
41:00
second
41:00
time
41:01
and
41:01
it
41:01
gets
41:01
off
41:01
a
41:02
second
41:02
time.
41:04
Like
41:04
what
41:05
other
41:05
fish
41:06
does
41:07
anything
41:07
like
41:08
that?
41:09
You
41:09
know,
41:10
it's,
41:10
they're
41:11
really
41:11
cool
41:11
and,
41:12
and
41:14
the,
41:15
they're
41:15
very
41:15
long
41:16
lived
41:16
and
41:17
like
41:17
I
41:17
said,
41:17
they're
41:17
really
41:18
smart.
41:18
You
41:18
know,
41:18
I,
41:19
I
41:19
will
41:19
splash
41:20
the
41:20
water
41:21
and
41:21
get
41:21
them
41:21
to
41:21
come
41:22
in
41:22
because
41:22
they're
41:23
so
41:23
curious
41:24
and
41:25
a
41:25
lot
41:25
of
41:25
people
41:25
around
41:26
here
41:26
think
41:26
that,
41:27
oh,
41:27
you're
41:27
splashing
41:28
the
41:28
water
41:28
and
41:29
the
41:29
bowfin
41:29
come
41:30
in.
41:30
They're
41:30
really
41:31
dumb.
41:32
It's
41:32
the
41:32
opposite.
41:33
They,
41:33
they
41:34
hear
41:34
that
41:34
splashing.
41:35
They
41:35
think
41:35
something
41:35
is
41:36
wounded
41:36
and
41:36
they
41:37
want
41:37
to
41:37
come
41:37
in
41:37
to
41:38
see
41:38
if
41:38
they
41:38
have
41:38
an
41:39
opportunity
41:39
to
41:39
eat
41:40
something.
41:41
That's,
41:42
you
41:42
know,
41:42
that
41:43
curiosity
41:43
is,
41:44
is
41:44
intelligence.
41:45
So
41:45
these
41:45
are
41:46
an
41:46
incredibly
41:47
intelligent
41:47
fish
41:49
and
41:50
more
41:50
than
41:50
willing
41:50
to
41:51
take
41:51
a
41:51
fly.
41:52
But
41:52
if
41:53
you
41:53
really
41:53
keep
41:53
hitting
41:54
the
41:54
same
41:55
area
41:55
again
41:56
and
41:56
again
41:56
and
41:56
again
41:57
with
41:57
the
41:57
same
41:57
flies
41:58
and
41:58
the
41:58
same
41:58
techniques,
41:59
they
41:59
pick
41:59
up
41:59
on
41:59
it.
42:00
They
42:00
know
42:00
what's
42:00
going
42:01
on.
42:01
So
42:01
you
42:01
have
42:01
to
42:02
vary
42:02
what
42:02
you're
42:02
doing,
42:04
which
42:05
to
42:05
me
42:05
keeps
42:06
things
42:06
more
42:06
exciting.
42:08
You
42:08
know,
42:08
I,
42:09
I've,
42:09
I've
42:10
gone
42:10
on
42:10
record
42:10
saying
42:11
this
42:11
before.
42:12
I
42:12
consider
42:12
bowfin
42:14
the
42:14
most
42:14
American
42:15
game
42:15
fish
42:15
out
42:16
there
42:16
because
42:17
they
42:17
are
42:17
so
42:18
unchanged
42:19
for
42:19
so
42:19
long.
42:21
They're,
42:22
they're
42:22
incredible.
42:22
And
42:23
if
42:23
you've
42:23
never
42:23
fished
42:23
from
42:23
both
42:24
end,
42:25
you
42:25
really
42:25
need
42:26
to
42:27
because
42:28
it's
42:28
a
42:28
very,
42:29
very
42:29
cool
42:31
fish
42:32
to,
42:32
to
42:33
target.
42:34
Yeah,
42:34
that's
42:34
very
42:34
neat.
42:35
And
42:35
so
42:35
tell
42:35
me
42:36
a
42:36
little
42:36
bit
42:36
about
42:36
kind
42:36
of
42:37
like
42:37
your
42:37
rod
42:37
reel
42:38
line
42:38
set
42:39
up
42:39
and
42:39
then
42:40
sounds
42:40
like
42:40
you
42:40
got
42:40
to
42:40
kind
42:41
of
42:41
change
42:41
the
42:41
fly
42:41
situation
42:42
up
42:42
because
42:42
they
42:42
kind
42:43
of
42:43
get
42:43
dialed
42:43
in,
42:43
right?
42:45
They
42:45
do,
42:45
they
42:46
do.
42:47
So
42:49
I,
42:49
I've
42:50
used
42:50
a
42:50
lot
42:50
of
42:50
different
42:51
rods.
42:52
Seven
42:52
and
42:52
eight
42:53
weight
42:53
tends
42:53
to
42:53
be
42:54
the,
42:54
this,
42:54
the
42:55
sweet
42:55
spot.
42:55
I
42:55
like
42:55
to
42:56
use
42:56
a
42:56
stiffer
42:56
rod.
42:58
I
42:58
think,
42:59
you
42:59
know,
42:59
at
42:59
this
43:00
point
43:01
the
43:01
rod,
43:02
my
43:02
go
43:02
to
43:02
rod
43:03
right
43:03
now
43:04
is,
43:04
is
43:05
the,
43:07
the
43:07
8,
43:07
5,
43:08
7
43:08
weight
43:09
helios.
43:10
It's
43:11
a
43:11
short,
43:11
stiff
43:12
rod
43:12
and
43:12
it,
43:13
and
43:13
it
43:13
really
43:13
gets
43:14
the
43:14
job
43:14
done
43:14
very
43:15
well.
43:15
You
43:15
can,
43:15
you
43:16
can
43:16
cross
43:16
that
43:16
fish's
43:17
eyes
43:17
with
43:18
the
43:18
hook
43:18
set
43:20
line
43:20
really
43:20
isn't
43:20
that
43:21
important.
43:22
Any,
43:22
any
43:22
floating
43:23
line
43:23
will
43:23
do.
43:25
The
43:25
leader
43:25
is
43:26
very
43:26
short.
43:27
I
43:28
usually
43:28
just
43:28
do
43:29
a
43:32
short,
43:32
like
43:32
maybe
43:33
a
43:33
foot
43:34
of
43:35
or
43:35
so
43:36
of
43:36
like
43:36
20
43:36
pounds
43:38
fluorocarbon.
43:39
And
43:39
then
43:39
I
43:40
will
43:40
tie
43:40
off
43:43
16
43:43
pound
43:44
to
43:44
that,
43:45
about
43:45
three
43:45
foot
43:46
piece
43:46
of
43:46
that.
43:46
So
43:46
you
43:46
only
43:47
have
43:47
a
43:47
like
43:47
a
43:47
four
43:48
foot
43:48
leader.
43:48
You
43:48
really
43:49
don't
43:49
need
43:49
a
43:49
very
43:49
long
43:50
leader.
43:51
A
43:51
long
43:51
leader
43:52
is
43:52
actually
43:53
detrimental
43:54
to
43:54
good
43:54
presentation
43:55
when,
43:56
when
43:56
you're,
43:56
when
43:57
you're
43:57
doing
43:57
the
43:57
style
43:58
of
43:58
fishing
43:58
that
43:59
I
43:59
do
43:59
for
43:59
these
43:59
guys
44:00
because
44:00
you
44:00
only
44:01
have
44:01
a
44:01
couple
44:01
inches
44:02
of
44:03
fly
44:03
line
44:03
out
44:04
from
44:04
your
44:04
rod
44:04
tip.
44:05
You
44:05
know,
44:05
like
44:05
I
44:05
said,
44:06
you're
44:06
really
44:06
dapping
44:07
and,
44:08
and
44:08
to
44:08
properly
44:08
present
44:09
that
44:09
fly
44:09
and
44:09
to
44:10
be
44:10
able
44:10
to
44:10
get
44:10
a
44:10
good
44:10
hook
44:11
set
44:11
you
44:11
actually
44:12
have
44:12
to
44:12
have
44:12
the
44:13
rod
44:13
pretty
44:14
much
44:14
perpendicular
44:15
to
44:15
the
44:15
water,
44:15
parallel
44:16
to
44:16
the
44:16
water.
44:16
You
44:16
want
44:17
to
44:17
have
44:17
that
44:17
rod
44:18
parallel
44:18
or
44:18
parallel
44:19
to
44:19
the
44:19
water
44:20
because
44:20
you're
44:21
going
44:21
to
44:21
set
44:21
the
44:22
hook
44:22
kind
44:23
of
44:25
keeping
44:25
the
44:25
rod
44:26
flat
44:28
and
44:29
parallel
44:29
to
44:29
the
44:29
water.
44:30
So
44:30
you
44:30
kind
44:30
of
44:30
got
44:31
this,
44:31
this
44:32
upward
44:32
stroke.
44:33
You
44:33
don't
44:33
want
44:33
to
44:34
set
44:34
back
44:34
with
44:35
your
44:35
wrist.
44:37
And
44:38
when
44:38
you
44:38
sit
44:38
back
44:38
with
44:39
your
44:39
wrist
44:39
it's
44:39
a
44:39
lot
44:40
like
44:40
trying
44:40
to
44:41
set
44:41
a
44:41
hook
44:41
into
44:41
a
44:41
concrete
44:42
block.
44:42
And
44:43
I've
44:43
had
44:43
three
44:44
rods
44:44
that
44:45
have
44:45
broken
44:46
right
44:46
in
44:47
front
44:47
of
44:47
the
44:47
grip
44:48
because
44:48
of
44:48
just,
44:49
you
44:49
know,
44:50
the
44:50
way
44:50
you're
44:50
setting
44:51
the
44:51
hook
44:51
like
44:51
that.
44:54
As
44:54
far
44:55
as
44:55
flies,
44:55
I
44:56
have
44:56
kind
44:56
of
44:57
a
44:57
number
44:57
of
44:57
my
44:57
own
44:58
patterns
44:59
that
44:59
I
44:59
use
45:00
for
45:00
them.
45:01
They're,
45:01
they're
45:03
for
45:03
the
45:04
most
45:04
part
45:04
fairly
45:04
heavily
45:05
weighted.
45:06
They're
45:06
kind
45:06
of
45:07
really
45:07
buggy,
45:08
buggerish
45:10
flies.
45:11
I've
45:11
got
45:11
one
45:11
I
45:12
call
45:12
the
45:12
Mr.
45:12
Beauregard
45:13
and
45:13
I
45:13
got
45:14
another
45:14
one
45:14
I
45:14
call
45:14
Mr.
45:15
Bo
45:15
Squiggles.
45:16
I've
45:17
also
45:17
had
45:17
very
45:18
good
45:18
luck
45:18
with
45:18
crayfish
45:19
patterns.
45:20
Changer
45:21
craws
45:21
are
45:22
fantastic
45:23
certain
45:23
times
45:23
of
45:24
the
45:24
year
45:24
when
45:25
they
45:25
get
45:25
really,
45:26
when
45:26
the
45:26
boat
45:26
can
45:27
get
45:27
really
45:27
finicky
45:27
in
45:27
mid
45:28
summer.
45:28
I
45:29
find
45:29
that
45:29
the,
45:30
the,
45:30
the
45:30
changer
45:31
cross
45:31
can
45:32
be
45:32
more
45:32
difficult
45:33
to
45:33
get
45:33
a
45:33
hook
45:33
set
45:34
with.
45:34
At
45:34
that
45:35
point
45:35
you
45:35
really,
45:37
you
45:37
really
45:37
want
45:37
to
45:37
have
45:38
a
45:38
good,
45:39
you
45:39
want
45:40
to
45:40
get,
45:40
you
45:40
have
45:41
your
45:41
better
45:41
opportunities
45:41
with
45:42
the
45:42
changer
45:42
cross
45:43
earlier
45:43
in
45:43
the
45:44
season
45:44
when
45:44
they're
45:45
really
45:46
a
45:46
lot
45:46
more
45:47
aggressive
45:47
with
45:48
their,
45:48
with
45:48
their
45:48
takes.
45:50
But
45:50
they
45:50
will,
45:51
they
45:51
will
45:51
take
45:51
carp
45:52
flies
45:53
they'll
45:54
take,
45:56
they'll
45:56
take
45:56
almost
45:57
anything
45:57
to
45:58
be
45:58
very
45:58
honest
45:58
with
45:59
you.
46:01
But
46:03
if
46:03
you've
46:04
got
46:04
the
46:04
wrong
46:04
hook,
46:05
it
46:05
gives
46:06
the
46:06
fishing
46:06
advantage
46:08
when
46:08
you're
46:08
fishing
46:09
with
46:09
bow.
46:09
Fishing
46:10
for
46:10
bowfin,
46:11
a
46:11
short
46:11
shank
46:11
heavy
46:12
wire
46:12
hook
46:13
is
46:13
much
46:14
more
46:14
effective.
46:14
In
46:15
getting
46:15
a
46:15
hook
46:15
set
46:15
than
46:15
a
46:16
laundry
46:16
shank
46:16
hook.
46:17
And
46:18
if
46:18
you
46:19
have
46:19
a
46:19
longer
46:19
shank
46:19
hook
46:20
and
46:20
you're
46:20
playing
46:20
those
46:21
fish,
46:22
that,
46:22
that
46:22
hook
46:23
acts
46:23
more
46:23
as
46:24
a
46:24
lever
46:25
and
46:25
their
46:25
mouth
46:25
is
46:26
just
46:26
almost
46:26
all
46:27
bone
46:27
and
46:27
teeth.
46:28
And
46:30
if
46:30
you
46:31
have
46:31
any
46:31
kind
46:31
of
46:31
lever
46:32
like
46:32
that
46:32
and
46:32
the
46:32
way
46:33
these
46:33
guys
46:33
fight,
46:34
they,
46:35
they
46:35
thrash
46:35
around
46:36
a
46:36
lot.
46:37
A
46:37
longer
46:37
shank
46:38
hook
46:38
will
46:38
work
46:38
itself
46:39
out
46:39
a
46:39
lot
46:40
easier
46:40
than
46:41
the,
46:41
the
46:41
short
46:41
shank
46:42
hooks.
46:43
So
46:45
it's,
46:45
it's,
46:46
it's
46:46
a
46:47
lot
46:47
of
46:47
fun.
46:48
I
46:48
try
46:49
to
46:49
keep
46:49
the,
46:49
the
46:49
fight
46:50
pretty
46:51
short
46:51
and
46:51
sweet,
46:51
you
46:51
know,
46:52
using
46:52
really
46:52
stout
46:53
leader.
46:54
When,
46:55
when
46:55
somebody
46:55
hooks
46:56
into
46:56
one
46:56
of
46:56
these
46:56
things,
46:56
I,
46:57
I
46:57
come
46:57
flying
46:57
down
46:58
from
46:58
the,
46:59
the,
46:59
the
46:59
pulling
47:00
platform
47:00
and
47:00
grab
47:01
a
47:01
net
47:01
and
47:01
scoop
47:02
them
47:02
up
47:02
as
47:02
fast
47:02
as
47:02
I
47:03
can
47:03
because
47:04
if
47:04
they
47:04
get
47:04
into
47:04
the
47:04
weeds,
47:05
they
47:05
will
47:05
break
47:05
you
47:06
off.
47:07
I
47:07
carry
47:07
a
47:08
lot
47:08
of,
47:08
I
47:08
carry
47:08
a
47:08
lot
47:09
of
47:09
bowfin
47:09
flies
47:10
because
47:10
there
47:10
are
47:10
a
47:10
lot
47:11
of
47:11
break
47:11
offs.
47:12
Yeah.
47:13
So
47:13
it's
47:13
not
47:14
exactly
47:14
the
47:14
no
47:15
changer
47:15
left
47:15
behind
47:16
mentality.
47:17
No,
47:18
no.
47:18
I
47:19
mean,
47:19
you
47:19
know,
47:20
it's,
47:20
it
47:20
sucks
47:20
to
47:21
lose
47:21
a
47:21
changer
47:21
to
47:22
these
47:22
guys,
47:22
but
47:22
that,
47:22
you
47:23
know,
47:23
that's
47:23
kind
47:23
of
47:24
part
47:24
of
47:24
the
47:24
process.
47:25
Right.
47:26
You
47:26
know,
47:27
it's,
47:27
it
47:28
does
47:28
happen
47:28
from
47:28
time
47:28
to
47:29
time.
47:30
One
47:30
thing
47:30
that
47:30
I,
47:31
I
47:31
will
47:31
say
47:32
and,
47:32
and
47:32
I've
47:32
heard
47:33
people,
47:33
you
47:33
know,
47:34
say
47:34
that
47:34
when
47:35
you're
47:35
fishing
47:35
bowfin,
47:35
you
47:36
got
47:36
to
47:36
use
47:36
a,
47:37
you
47:37
got
47:37
to
47:37
use
47:37
a
47:37
wire
47:37
leader.
47:38
And
47:38
nothing
47:38
is
47:39
further
47:39
from
47:39
the
47:39
truth.
47:40
Yes,
47:41
they
47:41
do
47:41
have
47:41
a
47:41
mouthful
47:42
of
47:42
teeth
47:42
and
47:43
you
47:43
do
47:43
not
47:44
want
47:44
to
47:44
get
47:44
your,
47:44
your
47:45
fingers
47:45
in
47:45
there.
47:46
They
47:46
will
47:47
shred
47:47
you.
47:48
However,
47:49
their
47:49
teeth
47:50
are
47:50
conical
47:51
teeth
47:52
similar
47:53
to
47:53
like
47:53
what
47:53
a
47:54
walleye
47:54
has.
47:56
They're
47:56
not
47:56
cutting
47:57
teeth
47:57
like
47:57
a
47:57
pike
47:58
or
47:59
a
47:59
snakehead.
48:00
So
48:00
you
48:00
don't
48:00
necessarily
48:01
have
48:01
to
48:01
have
48:02
wire.
48:03
Well,
48:04
you
48:04
don't
48:04
need
48:04
wire.
48:05
And
48:05
actually
48:05
I
48:06
think
48:06
wire
48:07
is,
48:08
doesn't
48:08
allow
48:08
you
48:08
to
48:09
give
48:09
as
48:09
good
48:09
a
48:09
presentation
48:10
as
48:10
you
48:10
will
48:11
with
48:11
just
48:11
fluorocarbon.
48:14
So,
48:14
you
48:14
know,
48:15
wire
48:15
is
48:15
not
48:15
necessary
48:16
for
48:16
their
48:17
type
48:17
of
48:17
teeth.
48:18
Got
48:19
it.
48:19
And
48:19
so,
48:19
you
48:19
know,
48:19
Drew,
48:20
what's
48:21
a
48:21
day
48:21
like,
48:21
you
48:21
know,
48:21
either
48:22
waiting
48:22
or
48:22
on
48:22
the
48:22
boat
48:22
with
48:23
you?
48:25
Well,
48:26
you
48:26
know,
48:27
it
48:28
really
48:28
depends
48:28
on
48:29
what
48:29
time
48:29
of
48:29
the
48:29
year
48:30
it
48:30
is.
48:31
You
48:31
know,
48:32
with
48:32
lake
48:32
trout
48:33
in
48:33
the
48:33
fall,
48:33
it
48:34
could
48:34
start
48:34
at
48:35
3am
48:36
going
48:36
out
48:37
and
48:37
chasing
48:37
them
48:38
for
48:38
dawn
48:38
hours
48:39
using
48:39
glow
48:40
in
48:40
the
48:40
dark
48:40
flies
48:42
in
48:43
my
48:43
boat.
48:45
You
48:46
know,
48:46
it's,
48:48
I'm
48:49
really
48:50
trying
48:50
to
48:51
help
48:51
people
48:51
dial
48:52
in
48:52
their,
48:53
their
48:53
cast
48:54
and
48:54
presentation
48:56
to
48:57
the
48:57
fish
48:57
that
48:58
we
48:58
are
48:58
fishing
48:59
for.
49:00
I
49:00
also
49:01
like
49:01
to
49:01
make
49:02
sure
49:02
that,
49:03
I
49:03
like
49:04
to,
49:04
I
49:04
like
49:04
to
49:04
educate
49:05
people
49:05
about
49:05
where
49:05
they're
49:05
at.
49:06
You
49:06
know,
49:07
Lake
49:07
Champlain,
49:07
not
49:08
only
49:08
is
49:08
it
49:08
an
49:08
amazing
49:09
place
49:10
for,
49:12
for
49:12
fishing,
49:12
but
49:13
it's,
49:13
it's,
49:13
it's
49:14
an
49:14
incredible
49:14
place
49:14
for,
49:15
for
49:15
U.S.
49:15
history.
49:17
You
49:17
know,
49:17
we're.
49:19
When
49:19
I
49:19
launch
49:19
at
49:20
Otter
49:20
Creek,
49:20
we
49:20
go
49:21
right
49:21
by
49:23
the
49:23
very
49:23
spot
49:24
where
49:25
basically
49:25
The
49:25
War
49:25
of
49:26
1812
49:26
was
49:27
won.
49:27
And
49:28
most,
49:28
you
49:28
know,
49:28
we
49:29
got
49:29
tens
49:29
of
49:29
thousands
49:29
of
49:30
people
49:30
who
49:30
go
49:30
by
49:30
that
49:31
every,
49:31
every
49:32
summer
49:32
and
49:32
have
49:33
no
49:33
idea
49:34
that,
49:34
you
49:34
know,
49:35
a
49:35
one
49:35
hour
49:35
gun
49:36
battle
49:36
right
49:36
there
49:37
is
49:38
what
49:38
changed
49:38
the
49:38
course
49:39
of
49:39
the
49:39
war.
49:40
So
49:40
that's,
49:41
that's
49:41
pretty
49:42
cool
49:42
to
49:42
be
49:42
able
49:42
to
49:42
share
49:42
that
49:43
with
49:43
people
49:43
and
49:44
also
49:44
explain,
49:45
you
49:45
know,
49:45
the
49:46
natural
49:46
history
49:47
of
49:47
the
49:47
fish
49:48
that
49:48
we're
49:48
going
49:48
after
49:49
or
49:50
other
49:50
animals
49:50
that
49:51
we
49:51
see.
49:53
You
49:53
know,
49:54
it's
49:54
a
49:54
really
49:55
neat
49:56
place
49:56
and
49:56
I
49:57
love
49:57
sharing
49:58
my
49:58
home
49:58
with
49:58
other
49:59
people.
50:00
I
50:01
also
50:01
like
50:01
to
50:01
have
50:02
like
50:02
plenty
50:02
of
50:02
good
50:02
snacks.
50:04
I
50:04
work
50:04
for
50:05
a
50:05
small
50:06
business
50:06
that
50:07
has
50:08
some
50:09
amazing
50:10
sweets.
50:12
Anytime
50:13
anybody
50:13
is
50:14
going
50:14
out
50:14
with
50:14
me.
50:15
I
50:15
have
50:15
these
50:17
maple
50:17
pecan
50:18
bars
50:18
which
50:19
everybody
50:20
seems
50:20
to
50:21
just
50:21
think
50:21
is
50:22
the
50:22
cast
50:23
Meow.
50:24
And
50:25
they're
50:25
really
50:25
good.
50:26
They're
50:26
incredibly
50:27
addictive,
50:29
which
50:29
can
50:30
be
50:30
detrimental
50:31
to
50:31
my
50:31
waistline
50:32
at
50:32
times.
50:34
But
50:34
you
50:35
know,
50:35
it's,
50:37
it's
50:40
sharing
50:41
this
50:42
incredible,
50:44
the
50:44
incredible
50:44
resource
50:46
that's
50:46
right
50:46
here
50:47
between
50:48
New
50:48
York
50:48
and
50:48
Vermont.
50:49
You
50:50
know,
50:50
this,
50:50
this
50:50
lake
50:51
is,
50:52
is.
50:53
I
50:53
love
50:55
sharing
50:55
this
50:56
lake
50:56
with
50:56
people
50:57
because
50:58
it
50:58
is
50:58
just,
50:59
it's
50:59
such
51:00
a
51:00
great
51:00
place.
51:02
Very,
51:03
very
51:03
neat.
51:03
And
51:03
rumor
51:04
has
51:04
it
51:04
that
51:04
you,
51:05
you
51:05
might
51:05
have
51:05
a
51:06
book
51:06
in
51:06
the
51:06
works.
51:08
I
51:08
do.
51:09
I
51:09
will
51:10
have
51:10
a
51:10
book
51:10
coming
51:10
out
51:11
from
51:11
Stackpole
51:12
in
51:12
September
51:13
called
51:14
Favorite
51:14
Fries
51:14
for
51:15
Vermont
51:15
where
51:16
you
51:16
will
51:17
see
51:18
some
51:18
of
51:19
the
51:19
offerings
51:20
that
51:20
I
51:20
have.
51:21
But
51:21
it's
51:21
also
51:22
kind
51:22
of
51:22
going
51:22
to
51:22
go
51:22
through
51:24
some
51:25
historic
51:25
flies,
51:26
but
51:27
also
51:27
flies
51:28
from,
51:28
from
51:29
folks
51:29
like
51:30
Tom
51:30
Rosenbauer
51:31
and
51:31
a
51:31
lot
51:31
of
51:31
other
51:32
guides
51:33
and,
51:34
and
51:34
anglers
51:35
throughout
51:35
the
51:36
state.
51:37
Mostly
51:38
trout
51:38
flies,
51:38
but
51:39
there's
51:39
a
51:39
lot
51:39
of
51:39
other
51:40
good
51:40
stuff
51:40
in
51:41
there.
51:41
And
51:41
you'll
51:41
see
51:41
some
51:41
of
51:42
my,
51:42
my,
51:43
my
51:43
bowfin
51:43
flies
51:43
and
51:44
gar
51:44
flies
51:44
and
51:45
it,
51:46
it'll
51:46
be,
51:46
it'll
51:47
be
51:47
pretty
51:47
neat
51:47
to,
51:48
to
51:49
see
51:49
my
51:49
first
51:49
book
51:49
being
51:50
published.
51:51
Yeah,
51:51
we'll
51:51
have
51:51
to
51:52
bring
51:52
you
51:52
back.
51:53
As
51:54
we
51:54
talked
51:54
about
51:54
before
51:54
we
51:55
started
51:55
recording,
51:56
you
51:56
can't
51:56
do
51:57
justice
51:57
to
51:58
the
51:58
God
51:58
experience.
51:59
And
51:59
then
51:59
the
52:00
whole
52:00
trauma
52:01
of
52:01
writing
52:01
a
52:01
book
52:02
deserves
52:02
its
52:02
own
52:03
entire
52:03
interview.
52:07
You
52:08
got
52:08
that
52:08
right.
52:10
You
52:10
got
52:10
that
52:10
right.
52:10
Yeah.
52:11
So
52:11
I
52:11
know
52:11
the
52:11
bucket
52:11
that
52:12
you
52:12
fall
52:12
into
52:12
because
52:12
there
52:13
are
52:13
kind
52:13
of
52:13
two
52:13
flavors
52:14
of
52:14
ice
52:14
cream
52:14
there.
52:14
They're
52:15
the
52:15
people
52:15
that
52:15
love
52:15
writing
52:16
the
52:16
books.
52:16
And
52:17
then
52:17
there
52:17
are
52:17
people
52:17
that
52:18
are
52:18
like,
52:18
they
52:18
did
52:18
it
52:19
once.
52:19
It
52:19
almost
52:19
killed
52:20
them.
52:20
And
52:20
they
52:20
Never
52:20
want
52:20
to
52:20
do
52:21
it
52:21
again.
52:23
Well,
52:23
I,
52:23
I
52:24
would
52:24
like
52:24
the
52:24
opportunity
52:25
to
52:25
do
52:25
it
52:25
again.
52:25
I
52:25
got,
52:25
I,
52:26
I've
52:26
got
52:26
some
52:26
other,
52:27
some
52:27
other
52:28
ideas
52:29
floating
52:29
around,
52:30
but
52:30
we'll
52:31
see
52:31
what
52:31
happens
52:31
with
52:32
this
52:32
first
52:32
one.
52:33
Very,
52:33
very
52:33
neat.
52:33
And
52:34
so,
52:34
you
52:34
know,
52:34
before
52:34
I
52:34
let
52:34
you
52:35
go
52:35
this
52:35
evening,
52:35
Drew,
52:35
is
52:35
there
52:36
anything
52:36
else
52:36
you'd
52:36
like
52:36
to
52:36
share
52:37
with
52:37
our
52:37
listeners?
52:39
You
52:39
know,
52:39
just,
52:41
you
52:41
know,
52:42
come
52:42
up
52:42
and
52:43
visit,
52:43
Visit
52:44
Vermont
52:45
and
52:46
check
52:46
out
52:46
Lake
52:47
Champlain.
52:47
It's,
52:48
it's,
52:48
it's
52:49
a
52:49
really
52:49
cool
52:49
place.
52:50
And,
52:50
uh,
52:51
you'll
52:51
really
52:52
enjoy
52:52
yourself.
52:53
Yeah.
52:53
And
52:53
so,
52:53
you
52:53
know,
52:54
for,
52:54
like.
52:54
So
52:54
I'm
52:54
down
52:54
in
52:54
Charlotte,
52:55
North
52:55
Carolina.
52:56
If
52:56
you're
52:56
not
52:56
kind
52:56
of
52:57
within
52:57
a
52:57
reasonable
52:58
drive
52:58
distance
52:59
of
53:00
your
53:00
neck
53:00
of
53:00
the
53:00
woods,
53:01
kind
53:01
of,
53:01
what's
53:01
the,
53:01
what's
53:02
the
53:02
best
53:02
way
53:02
to
53:02
get
53:02
up
53:03
there?
53:05
There's
53:05
a,
53:05
there's
53:06
an
53:06
international
53:07
airport
53:07
in
53:08
Burlington.
53:09
That's,
53:09
that's
53:09
really
53:10
your
53:10
best
53:10
bet.
53:11
We're,
53:12
you
53:12
know,
53:12
it's,
53:13
it's
53:13
about
53:13
a
53:14
four
53:14
and
53:14
a
53:14
half,
53:14
five
53:14
hour
53:15
drive
53:15
from
53:15
New
53:15
York
53:15
City.
53:16
We're
53:16
about
53:16
three
53:16
and
53:16
a
53:16
half
53:16
hours
53:17
away
53:17
from
53:17
Boston,
53:17
hour
53:18
and
53:18
a
53:18
half
53:18
from
53:18
Montreal.
53:19
So
53:20
it's,
53:20
it's,
53:20
it's
53:21
not
53:21
really
53:21
too
53:22
far
53:22
from
53:22
a
53:22
lot
53:22
of
53:23
stuff,
53:23
but
53:24
it's
53:24
just
53:24
far
53:24
enough
53:25
away
53:25
to,
53:25
to
53:25
make
53:25
it
53:26
a
53:26
little
53:26
challenging
53:27
to
53:27
get
53:27
here.
53:28
But
53:28
there's
53:29
a
53:29
lot
53:29
of,
53:29
A
53:29
lot
53:30
of
53:30
great
53:30
accommodations.
53:31
There's
53:31
a
53:31
lot
53:31
of
53:31
things
53:31
for
53:32
families
53:32
to
53:32
do
53:33
here.
53:34
You
53:34
know,
53:35
Burlington
53:36
is
53:36
a
53:37
wonderful
53:38
city.
53:39
We
53:39
have
53:40
great
53:40
food
53:40
culture
53:41
here.
53:41
If
53:41
you
53:42
like
53:42
beer,
53:43
you've
53:43
really,
53:43
you
53:44
know,
53:44
you
53:44
can't
53:44
go
53:44
wrong
53:45
with
53:45
Vermont
53:45
beer.
53:47
It's
53:48
a
53:48
cool
53:48
place.
53:49
And
53:51
fall
53:52
foliage
53:53
in
53:53
Vermont
53:54
can't
53:54
be
53:54
beat.
53:56
Yeah.
53:56
And
53:57
I've
53:57
never
53:57
found
53:57
bad
53:58
beer.
53:58
So
53:58
there
53:58
you
53:58
go.
53:59
Right?
54:00
No,
54:00
well,
54:00
there
54:00
you
54:00
go.
54:01
I
54:01
mean,
54:01
well,
54:01
you
54:01
know,
54:01
we
54:01
got
54:02
helmet,
54:02
Heady
54:03
Topper,
54:04
and
54:05
there's
54:05
a
54:05
lot
54:05
of
54:05
other
54:06
really
54:06
good
54:07
beers
54:07
around,
54:08
too.
54:08
So,
54:09
you
54:09
know,
54:09
we,
54:10
we
54:11
definitely
54:11
pride
54:11
ourselves
54:12
on,
54:13
on
54:13
the
54:13
microbrews
54:14
here.
54:14
Yeah.
54:15
And
54:15
so,
54:15
you
54:16
know,
54:16
if,
54:16
if
54:16
folks
54:17
want
54:17
to
54:17
learn
54:17
more
54:17
about
54:18
Masterclass
54:18

54:19
you
54:19
know,

54:20
with
54:20
you.

54:22
You
54:22
know,
54:22
where
54:23
should
54:23
they
54:23
go?
54:25
Masterclassangling.com
54:26
is
54:27
my
54:27

54:28
page.
54:29
But
54:29
also
54:29
I'm
54:30

54:30

54:30
at
54:31

54:32

54:32
All
54:32

54:32
word
54:33
and.
54:34
Yeah,

54:35

54:35

54:38

54:38
into

and
54:39
that
54:40
I
54:40
get
54:40
other
54:40
people
54:40
into.
54:41
Yeah,
54:41
very,
54:42
very
54:42
cool.
54:42
I
54:42
will
54:42
drop
54:43
all
54:43
that
54:43
stuff
54:44
in
54:44
the
54:44

54:44
notes.
54:46
Fantastic.
54:47
Well,
54:48
Drew,
54:48
I
54:48
really
54:48
appreciate
54:49

54:49

54:50
time
54:50
with
54:50
me
54:50
this
54:50
evening.
54:50
And,
54:51
you
54:51
know,
54:51
maybe
54:52
around
54:52
the
54:52
4th
54:52
of
54:52
July,
54:53
we
54:53
I'll
54:53

54:57
on
54:57
your
54:57
new
54:57
book.
54:59
Thanks
54:59
a
54:59
million,
55:00
Marvin.
55:00
I'm
55:01
looking
55:01
forward
55:02

55:03
as
55:03
well.
55:04
Absolutely.
55:05
Take
55:05
care.
55:07
Well
55:07
folks,
55:08
we
55:08
hope
55:08
you
55:08
enjoyed
55:08
the
55:09
interview
55:09
as
55:09
much
55:09
as
55:09
we
55:10
enjoyed
55:10
bringing
55:10
it
55:10
to
55:11
you.
55:11
