Transcript
- 0:00Speaker 1: Right.
- 0:00Speaker 2: PM's back in his hotel in Kuala Lumpa now after
- 0:03Speaker 2: a dinner hosted by the Malaysians. No sign yet of
- 0:06Speaker 2: a meeting with Donald Trump. Of course, there could be
- 0:08Speaker 2: a chance at APEC. He's now done with the Ussian Summit,
- 0:12Speaker 2: that is Trump and he's off to Japan, but Luxon
- 0:16Speaker 2: remains in in Malaysia for the Asian Summit. Then he
- 0:20Speaker 2: is off to South Korea for APEC Becausearria, how his
- 0:22Speaker 2: newstalks here by political reporter with him in Kuala Lumpa.
- 0:26Speaker 2: Welcome to the shows.
- 0:27Speaker 1: Aaria, Thanks so much, good to be with you.
- 0:29Speaker 2: So any sign of the big Man ye? Any sign
- 0:31Speaker 2: of Donald Trump for his modicaide Yeah, no.
- 0:34Speaker 1: Sort of sign of Donald Trump in terms of what
- 0:37Speaker 1: I've seen. I mean, he was in the area, but
- 0:40Speaker 1: he since actually left. So Donald Trump now in Japan
- 0:44Speaker 1: a meeting with their new leader. Trump did not meet
- 0:47Speaker 1: with Chris Luxon, but the two paths do cross again
- 0:51Speaker 1: in just a few days at APEX in South Korea.
- 0:54Speaker 1: There's no word though if there will be a meeting,
- 0:56Speaker 1: but there was a press conference from PM Chris Lue
- 1:00Speaker 1: and he said they may meet, they may not, but
- 1:03Speaker 1: admitted though that it was unlikely we will see any
- 1:06Speaker 1: sort of reprieve from those US tariffs. I mean, in
- 1:09Speaker 1: terms of the wider situation at Asian you can tell
- 1:13Speaker 1: there's something big going on. I mean, there's motorcades as
- 1:16Speaker 1: far as the eye could see, there's so much security
- 1:19Speaker 1: and police in the area. But in terms of actually
- 1:22Speaker 1: any sign of Donald Trump, haven't actually seen him and
- 1:26Speaker 1: he's gone off to Japan now, but maybe South Korea
- 1:29Speaker 1: will be the place to catch a glimpse of him.
- 1:32Speaker 2: This gala dinner that was hosted by the late Malaysian
- 1:34Speaker 2: PM tonight, what came with that much?
- 1:37Speaker 1: Yeah, well, Luxon finished the day with that gala dinner
- 1:41Speaker 1: that was put on by the Prime Minister of Malaysia.
- 1:43Speaker 1: It also came with some performances, cultural performances, speeches and
- 1:47Speaker 1: orchestra as well, but media were not invited to go
- 1:52Speaker 1: to that one. But it did sort of put an
- 1:55Speaker 1: end to what had been a massive political day for
- 1:59Speaker 1: really a lot of world leaders. I mean, Luxen met
- 2:01Speaker 1: with a number of world leaders in Malaysia for the
- 2:05Speaker 1: Asian Summit, bilateral meetings with people like the Prime Minister
- 2:08Speaker 1: of Vietnam, the PM of Cambodia, Lao Thailand as well.
- 2:13Speaker 1: And also interestingly, Chris Luson actually met with India's Minister
- 2:17Speaker 1: of External Affairs. Now that's a really important meeting for
- 2:20Speaker 1: the government. New Zealand's really been pushing for that free
- 2:23Speaker 1: trade agreement with India, so it is important that they've
- 2:26Speaker 1: managed to get that meeting as well. But in terms
- 2:29Speaker 1: of that gala, I think it's more about celebrating Asian
- 2:33Speaker 1: and bringing together all of these sorts of cultures as well. Also,
- 2:38Speaker 1: there will be today later today in Asian New Zealand
- 2:41Speaker 1: leaders gala lunch and that comes with a kapahaka performance.
- 2:45Speaker 1: Chris Luxan last night obviously treated to those cultural performances
- 2:49Speaker 1: at that gala. This is a chance really to show
- 2:52Speaker 1: what New Zealand has to offer. So it will be
- 2:54Speaker 1: quite interesting to watch that one.
- 2:56Speaker 2: Azari, I've been to these things before. You've been to
- 2:59Speaker 2: these things before. You know, it's all about the size
- 3:01Speaker 2: of the motorcade. How big was Chris Luxeon's. Because I
- 3:04Speaker 2: saw he was greeted by the Minister of Youth or
- 3:08Speaker 2: something Ran. I mean, it's almost like being greeted by
- 3:10Speaker 2: the mayor when you arrive.
- 3:12Speaker 1: He was greeted by the Minister of Youth. Yes, that's correct,
- 3:15Speaker 1: and I mean some people did make those comparisons between
- 3:19Speaker 1: Chris Luxon's arrival and Donald Trump's arrival. There was no
- 3:23Speaker 1: sort of dancing from Chris Luxon, no people waving flags,
- 3:26Speaker 1: but it was still he did still get a guard
- 3:28Speaker 1: of honor and a mot cat as well, so it
- 3:31Speaker 1: wasn't like it was, you know, completely nothing. But yes, sir,
- 3:36Speaker 1: Donald Trump really taking the headlines in terms of us
- 3:39Speaker 1: and he's already left.
- 3:41Speaker 2: He's gone, he's out the building. All right, Well, we'll
- 3:43Speaker 2: look forward to your next update. A Zaria, thanks very much.
- 3:46Speaker 2: That was Azaria Azaria Hall, who's our political reporter in Malay.
