- Nathan Hawthorne: we live ⁓ in It's the greatest intro. It's the greatest intro in sports podcast history. And people are missing out. Can you believe that? On a week to week basis, on a week to week basis. 36 people, and to all 36 of you, I love you. Ladies and gentlemen, welcome back to yet another episode of KYP aka Know Your Personnel. This is episode 17. My name is Nathan Hawthorne. This is my co host Jared McEnroy. Jarod McInroy: Every week. I know, I can't believe it. There's 36 people who aren't missing out though. Nathan Hawthorne: Where we break down all of the biggest, brightest, and best news in sports, bringing you some hot takes, some freezing cold takes, and everything in between. So we got plenty to talk about today. So let's dive right into it. You've got the Knicks jersey on, our twenty twenty six NBA champions. Break down how you're feeling in this moment right now, as a fraudulent New York Knicks fan. Jarod McInroy: And yes, it is a Carmelo. It is a Carmelo Anthony Jersey. I will say I got this when I went to New York. ⁓ But needless to say. Nathan Hawthorne: Yeah, and that's and that's That's real swag, by the way. I just want to point out the fact that it's the Adidas jersey. Says you've had it for a while. You didn't just pick that up. It's not Jalen Brunson, Little Munchkin. You ain't getting the Ananobi to try and be fringe and act like you're a fan because you know who Ananobi is. Come on, bro. Anyways, tell tell celebrate. Do what you need to do in this moment. Jarod McInroy: Mm-hmm. Mm-hmm. Adidas and it's it's the alternate as well Okay. I just want to say it, you know, I hate basking in the glory of being right, but like I've been saying it since the playoffs started. I said it from day one. I said, if anyone's coming out of the East, I didn't believe in Boston. I told you Boston was going to lose. I said, if anybody's coming out of the East and actually winning the thing, it is New York. There was multiple reasons why I thought this. think they have the recipe that clearly they had the recipe. You need long wings who can defend. You need a 1A player. Shout out Becky Hammond for just being incredibly wrong about Jalen Brunson, as are you and many others. But needless to say, he earned it. He went out and earned it. We're talking about one of the best collective defensive guard rooms that we have seen in recent years with the best defensive player we have seen in recent years. are this year's defensive player of the year. Nathan Hawthorne: I don't think she was wrong. Jarod McInroy: Victor Wembenyama and this man just put up 33 points a game on him. He put 45 up on him to win the NBA finals. The MVP of the league, Shea Gilgis Alexander, had 26 points a game. That's a seven point differential. And I'm no mathematician, but seven points can win you a game. All I know is top to bottom, yeah. Nathan Hawthorne: Clearly it can win you a game. It did the Spurs did the Spurs lose by more than seven points total in all in all these games? Jarod McInroy: And it came down to the wire every single game. I don't think so. That's what I'm saying. So, ⁓ no, the recipe was always there. Kat played incredible. No one really expected him to play as well as he did against Wenbin Yama. And maybe his stat line didn't look like he was that dominant, but he made Wenbin uncomfortable the entire series. Mikkel and Josh Hart, well, Josh Hart actually did play exceptionally well offensively, but both of them just Nathan Hawthorne: He's working. Jarod McInroy: tried to be pests on defense, they tried to put a hand in people's face. And then OG was just the hero. He really took it to a next level. ⁓ He was playing incredible defense, had a few huge blocks. ⁓ Final play of the game when Wemby missed the jumper. ⁓ The tip-in to win the game, obviously, in game four. ⁓ just moment after moment after moment, he showed up. He had a game where had, what, like seven threes. just, just incredible performance, but to say that that man was the second most important player in the series is kind of crazy because Jalen Brunson really is like that. Like I said, he'll continue to prove it. He's proven it before he'll continue to prove it moving forward. And now he's a champion and there's nothing anybody can possibly say. Nathan Hawthorne: Well, now he's gonna win league MVP. Now he's gonna win League MVP. You know, I I give so little credit to this New York Knicks team. I I think the Spurs bottled the series. They got lucky to escape Boston with the injuries. They got lucky that Oklahoma City didn't have their second best player in order to win that series. ⁓ actually probably like second second best player and first best player off the bench. Like they just they got lucky. I think this is the worst team to win the NBA finals. Jarod McInroy: That's all I got. doesn't have to do anything. Om. Nathan Hawthorne: Since that Toronto Raptors team with Kawhi Leonard. That's all I have to say. Jarod McInroy: ⁓ my god, these takes are freezing cold. First off that Toronto T was great They just happened. Okay We're now we're taking we're taking ⁓ 100 % they should not have won That year. However, that was a great collection of talent that could have won any other year Nathan Hawthorne: I don't care. I don't care. No, it wasn't. They play they play they played a golden state team on half of a leg. They played a golden state team on half of a leg. Wasn't that the wasn't that the foot on the line the foot on the line here? Was that the Kevin Durant foot on the line year? The Jarod McInroy: Yeah, Kevin Durant was out, Klay Thompson was out. Yes, they played a battered and beaten Golden State Warriors team. ⁓ But needless to say, that was a very rare occasion where you have one of the best teams ever in the history of the NBA. That specific year, they got lucky by injuries. However, that doesn't make them a bad team because there was a better one. Nathan Hawthorne: No, I'm not saying I'm not saying they're a bad team. I'm just saying if you lined up all the NBA if you if you line if you lined up all the NBA championship teams, if you lined up all the NBA championship teams from twenty ten, yeah, let's go like twenty ten to now, they're probably how many years is that they're probably fifteen. Jarod McInroy: Kwai Leonard, Mark Gasol, Kyle Lowry, Danny Green, like that team was stacked. Pascal Siakam, OG Ananobe. Nathan Hawthorne: They're probably the fifteenth best. Yeah, this see that's my point. Jarod McInroy: Yeah, they're probably down there. New York's not down there. I'll tell you what, I'm not going to go to bat for the Raptors, but I'll go to bat for New York. ⁓ you're saying New York is 15. ⁓ God. ⁓ God. That's terrible. That's terrible. Nathan Hawthorne: No, that's what no, that's where that's where I'm saying New York is. That's where I'm saying the New York team is. Yes, absolutely. Can't stand ⁓ Listen, and is the take rational? Probably not. I just I don't I don't like this team. I faded them every single step of the way. I'm gonna continue to fade them. I don't think that and ⁓ what I'm I think what makes me more upset, and this is something that's really tough with especially NBA media. Jarod McInroy: You're just a hater. Just accept it. Nathan Hawthorne: NFL you get players, players, players and Taylor Swift. In the NBA, it is so about who is sitting courtside in Madison Square Garden and who's sitting courtside at any game for rather. Like I don't I see more Timothy Chalamet, Ben Stiller, Adam Sandler, Spike. ⁓ my gosh, they're courtside. Look at their reaction to this awesome play that just happened, rather than showing me the actual awesome play. And it just makes me so sick that these guys, other than Timothy Chalamet and Spike Lee, get to come out of the woodworks when the Knicks are finally doing well. When was the last time they had won? The 70s? Like they they're finally doing well. And these teams get to sh and the and these celebrities get to show up, sit courtside, and act like they've been fans, grinding it out, wanting it. I don't want to see that. I want to see the guy in his living room who can't afford to go to the game because he's been priced out by all the celebrities and he's crying. And he's got real and he's got real tears. Jarod McInroy: Okay. That's every single Super Bowl, that's every single NBA Finals, that's not just this year. And you wanna see real tears? Nathan Hawthorne: It just makes me sick. No, it's it's worse. It's w it's worse with New York. It's worse with New York. It's worse. You know who I'm happy for though? You know who I No, I don't care. I'm not gonna listen to it. You know who I'm no, no, no, no, I'm not gonna hear it. You know who I'm actually happy for though? Josh Hart. Josh Hart, former Blazer. You know, we shaped him, molded him, turned him into the star he is today. And ⁓ now, all jokes aside, I appreciated when he was in Portland, he probably didn't want to be there. Jarod McInroy: ⁓ Go on Twitter, check out Side Talk, and I'll tell you what. Who's that? Mm-hmm. Nathan Hawthorne: But he bought into being there. And then unfortunately he exactly and for that Yep and for that I salute him. So no credit to anyone but Josh Hart. Thank you. ⁓ Jarod McInroy: He played like he wanted to be there. He played like he would be in Portland forever, and that's the style of player he is. Bro, just go on Twitter if you want to see the fans who couldn't afford to get in the game. They were lighting that place up. Nathan Hawthorne: ⁓ I see him. They were literally lighting the city on fire. Can we talk about that for a half second? You guys, get under control. No, it's not don't don't be out here embarrassing yourselves, embarrassing the city. There is nothing other than maybe I don't know, your child winning the NBA. Like if Jalen Brunson's dad was like that, I would get it. But let's not let these sport teams come so close to the heart that you just black out and lose all self control. Jarod McInroy: I love it. Do what you need to do. No, no, no, no. Do what you need to do. Nathan Hawthorne: Let's draw a firm line in the sand somewhere. Yeah, you know what? Jarod McInroy: Let's see what happens if the Blazers ever win. Because I'll tell you what, I'll be in Portland right alongside everyone else. Nathan Hawthorne: If the Blazers win, if the Blazers win, if the University of Oregon Ducks win, man. Whew. Jarod McInroy: Yeah, shout out to Tom Dunn and he just won his Stanley Cup and now he can maybe actually focus on the Blazers, but I digress. Okay, we said we weren't gonna spend too much time on it. Let's move on. You're a hater. Nathan Hawthorne: got me angry. The US Open. US Open coming up. ⁓ the is this the greatest event in golf or is it the second greatest event in golf? Jarod McInroy: Yeah, I don't know. Depends on how you look at it. No, no, it's one or two. ⁓ well, okay. Are you taking Ryder? Okay. Nathan Hawthorne: Or is it the third? Or is it the fourth? In including team events. I I'm adding Ryder Cup to this conversation. I'm adding President's Cup to this conversation and then the rest of the majors. And perhaps the Zurich classic. Jarod McInroy: Okay, then it's three. It's two or three. ⁓ One is clearly the Ryder Cup. President's Cup is not in the top three. So let's, you threw that in there, but like. Nathan Hawthorne: It might not be in the top five. I I'm it listen, and I body slam the players. I might rather watch the players in the President's Cup. Jarod McInroy: And this might be one of the best ⁓ international teams that we've seen, we'll see in a while the one that's coming up. But I, even then like just the environment around the event, it's still just, it doesn't have the juice and maybe they'll bring it. I guess we'll see. But if we're talking top three best, it's one Ryder Cup and then two and three is either the masters in the U S open. But. The Masters just has the pageantry. has all the stuff. It has Augusta. has all of the hype videos leading up to it. has Jim Nance. has everything you need in a golf tournament. But the actual play of the US Open sometimes surpasses that. And it depends on the venue, of course. ⁓ Nathan Hawthorne: I'd agree. Jarod McInroy: I have a tough time. That's a good question. I would say it just depends on the year. It depends on the year. Nathan Hawthorne: Yeah. You know what I'll what I'll say is the masters will test your t creativity. I think it's a two A, two B situation. Masters will test a player's creativity. Meanwhile, I think the US Open tests your overall game more. I think a US Open venue typically leads to you having to use all different parts of your game where masters you can kind of play your way around to the things that suit you best. Whereas in a US Open, just the way they set up the course. Is typically a little bit more difficult. You actually have rough in play. I I don't think this the second cut, you know, at ex at Augusta is not really a thing. So yeah, two two very different kinds of tests. And I think just the boogeyman that is the back nine of Augusta ⁓ can kind of scare some people. But yeah, regardless, we are spoiled in the game of golf to have not just events that are big in scale, but big in tradition and the US Open, regardless of going venue to venue. Always big on tradition. Jarod McInroy: Yeah, and Shinnecox a great venue this year, ⁓ They're all the way down to their gear. Their gear looks great. Like, I don't know if you've seen what people have been repping, but they're it looks great. ⁓ The course is going to be tough. ⁓ Here's my thing with the US Open. It also tests like your soul and your willingness to like stick with it. That's another piece of the pie where like, like you said, even Augusta like Nathan Hawthorne: And ⁓ I've so I've seen the merch. Jarod McInroy: not this last year, but the prior year, Rory put one in the water, made double, like you can do that and then bounce back at Augusta because there's gettable holes kind of mixed in. Like the US Open, do you have that fescue on every damn hole at Shinnecock? So like you hit one in, if you hit one in the next hole, you're right back in it. it'll test, no, it'll really, really test you. So that's another piece of the pie. Nathan Hawthorne: Yeah, he finded it. Jarod McInroy: ⁓ It's going to be interesting to see who comes out on top. ⁓ Do you want to start with who we think has to have a good week this week? Nathan Hawthorne: Yeah, let's let's talk about who has to have a good week. And I kind of broke mine out into a couple of different segments. But yeah, there's a number of guys that are playing, whether they're on the tour, the PGA tour, the Live Tour, European tour, they're all convening at this event and they have to contend. Some of them I think more more so have to win, but they must absolutely contend at this event. And my first kind of section of guys, right? I've got this is legacy defining. Like you need to contend and show something. I've got a young superstar as hey, it's time to show something. And that's how I'm looking at this. But ⁓ and two yeah, let's okay. So let's let's hear what you got. Who must contend this week for you? Jarod McInroy: We looked at it in two different ways. This will be good. All right. Yeah, so I thought about it more just like in this season scale. So like who really has to do it for this specific season? And I have two, two kind of subcategories, one being who's going to make their statement for their place in the writer cup and their place in the president's cup. ⁓ And then I thought about it of again, just who needs to wake up because we're at the, we're at the third major now. Nathan Hawthorne: Mm. Jarod McInroy: and there's a couple people asleep at the wheel. ⁓ So where do we want to start? Nathan Hawthorne: Let's start with what you got. I I like framing it within this season. 'Cause right 'cause right now I don't think there's yeah, right now I don't think there's a clear cut golfer who can say, you know, they are going to be player of the year. You know, for a second it looked like Rory after he won the second his second masters, he might run away with his thing. Scotty, you figured he might get over the hump. He's playing so well, but just not well enough, right? ⁓ who else out there? Aaron Rye, he's your open champ or not your open championship, I'm sorry. Jarod McInroy: Okay, yeah, let's start there. Yeah. Yeah. Mm-hmm. Nathan Hawthorne: You're PGA champion, but does anybody think he's really gonna win that award? So yeah, I like this frame of who this season needs to do it for just player of the year, but then yeah, also rider cup, presidents cup, etcetera. Jarod McInroy: Yeah. So let's start with that then. ⁓ My two that I think need to really compete to show that they're back, and they're both in a very similar situation. They've played really good golf previously. ⁓ One of these people I like far more than the other. ⁓ But they've played really good golf. They've proven that they can do it. They've won tournaments. ⁓ They've been on prior Ryder Cup slash President Cup teams, but they've also been terrible. ⁓ So as of late last few tournaments, they're kind of picking it back up and that's Wyndham Clark and Sam Burns I think they're both in very similar positions of like hey We're starting to figure it out. We're really competing for tournaments again The game looks really sharp Sam Burns is back to being one of the best putters in the world Doing what he knows how to do best Wyndham Clark, I hate the guy, but he plays good golf When when he's on and he is on as of late, he made the putter switch ⁓ And god, he just hits in a mile man so This is gonna be a really tough course for a guy who just goes out and bombs it Because it's not a bombing gouged type of golf course But his his length certainly can help him if he's gonna be accurate off the tee as well So I think both of those two names they they really have to have a good week to show that They can show up in majors and in big tournaments. Nathan Hawthorne: Yeah, two guys who have extremely athletic swings. They are the prototype of the new age golfer that looks entirely different than that, you know, Fred Couples, Ernie Ells, when it's breezy, swing easy. These guys mash the golf ball. I love those picks. You have anybody else on that? Yeah, yeah, k yeah, let's let's keep it going. Let's keep it going. Jarod McInroy: Next up, ⁓ just, ⁓ yeah, I got more. So that was just for those, for that, that side of the house. I'm going to jump into this man has been asleep at the wheel for six majors. Now he won two majors in the same year, two years ago, and he hasn't done anything since Xander Schauffele wake up. You got more, you got more golf to play. We're going to need you, especially team USA is going to need you, but There's money on the table. You want to wait. That's halfway to the grand slam. You're not going to do anything else. So this is, and this is a leg that he needs if we're going to get it done. So, ⁓ you know, a couple of years ago when he won the open or the, ⁓ open championship, rather, ⁓ the British open, whatever you want to call it. ⁓ and then he won the PJ championship as well. His, was in the best form we've ever seen him and Nathan Hawthorne: Ha ha. Jarod McInroy: He's had a few injuries since then as well that he's been kind of battling but that just it just feels like an excuse Because the swing doesn't look good. He doesn't seem locked in for the entire tournament And and he's really just making a lot of mistakes a lot of boneheaded mistakes even the short game, is his like bread and butter ⁓ Doesn't look as sharp as usual. So he's got to wake up and it's got to be sooner than later Nathan Hawthorne: Yeah, absolutely with with Xander. And I want it for him all the time. What's weird is he finally got those major championships. And what was the knock? He couldn't close on Sundays. There's a few guys like that. And he and he finally did. He gets the major championship wins. And it's almost kind of faded back to that zone. And again, you've mentioned the injuries, but something is going on at the top of his swing, his paws, or that nice little motion he has at the top, just that hesitation. And it's not a hesitation that What do want to call it in transition? I can't even think of the word. But but you but it's yeah, but it's when you remember that silhouette thing that that went wild a couple of weeks ago. Like you knew it was Xander instantly because of that just that the way he brings that something's not something something's out of sync. And like you said, something with his short game as well, those chips and pitches greenside, ⁓ that he used to scare the hole. He's not quite getting it as close, not getting up and down. Jarod McInroy: No hesitation works, yeah. Mm-hmm. He gets to the slot in like such a smooth way. Nathan Hawthorne: I love that he's committed to the same putter for five thousand years now. But yeah, just want to see him get one just want to see him compete for a major again. Jarod McInroy: Yeah, I'm right there with you. My last one's boring. It's Bryson. He sucks. If he's going to prove that he doesn't suck, got he had he only gets four tournaments a year to prove to us because we're not up at three in the morning watching a tournament in Melbourne. Like we're we don't care that much. So like for us who are more in favor of the PGA Tour style of things, ⁓ this is your chance. This is your chance to show that you can still do it. And he has not done it. He's switching gear yet again. He's Nathan Hawthorne: Ha ha ha. Jarod McInroy: Like it's exhausting following this guy, but like when he plays good golf He is so unbelievably good that I'm like we we need him to get back to that his puttings been awful and The stroke it's already not a great look ⁓ Just in terms of his his putting stroke in general just the stiff arm exactly, but like when it's bad it looks terrible Nathan Hawthorne: Repeatable. Jarod McInroy: So I don't know what he needs to do. I don't know why he looks so out of sorts. We'll see. He's on the TaylorMade driver this week, so we'll see how that goes for him. The TaylorMade prototype. Yeah. Nathan Hawthorne: I saw that, that funky looking QI4D. Kinda sick. Kinda sick. But hear me out. Hear me out. And I and I had Bryson on my list as well. And I and I had this nice little tagline. You want to hear it? Bryson DeChambeau. Content, content, or compete. What does he want to do? Does he want to be a content creator? Is he content with just, you know, playing some decent golf, cash and checks? Or does he want to compete? I need to know, Bryson. You gotta show me this week at the US Open that it's not just about tinkering with equipment. It's not just about keeping enough of a profile up to make content. Show me you want to win. You've already got two US Open championships. If there is somebody who can battle out of the rough when they miss the fairway, it is Bryson, right? He has the strength to do that. But if that driver is awry like it was at Augusta, I mean it it doesn't matter how great you are hitting it out of the fescue, you're just not gonna have a chance. ⁓ Michael Kim put out a great note. The fairways are wide, but just off the fairway is that fescue. You've got maybe two, three yards of error. So if you're if you're driving the ball decently accurate, you're gonna have a good time. But you cannot have the big, big misses, and hopefully that's what Taylor Maid's doing for him to minimize those ⁓ those big misses. Jarod McInroy: No. Yeah, and first off that tagline, that's why they pay you the big bucks. That's incredible. ⁓ But, and I texted you this earlier, he posted today some video of like, check out, know, like when they walk in the rough and they drop the ball and they're like, ⁓ can't even find the ball. Yeah, okay, we get it. The rough's crazy. But he calls it the rough. It's fescue. It is not. Nathan Hawthorne: Ha ha. Jarod McInroy: It's not your traditional rough and that bothers me so much. Like this is not, this is not rough. This is Fescue. Do not hit it in it. You have to, you have to scheme to not hit it in it. It should be punishing, but also like it's not there to punish you. That's the golf course. Nathan Hawthorne: Right. That's That's when you miss 60 yards to the right of the fairway. Or 50 yards, or probably more like probably more like 40 for these guys. Yeah, and then we've also seen the video. This is what I didn't like. We've seen the video of him being able to top the ball, right? Because it's a low point control thing. It's actually a skill if you can top the ball more than once. It's obvious that he did that with that swing. Anyways, we we he's the content king. See, we're talking we're talking about it. We're talking about it. He's good at he's good at what he does. I I tip the cap. Jarod McInroy: Exactly! It bothers me so much, Yeah. We are. We sure are. All right, what else you got for me? Nathan Hawthorne: Yeah, so I frame this up like I was saying as guys whose legacies are on the line right here and there's three in particular and they're best pals and maybe they're doing too many vacations in the off season together. You have a few kids, you're happy, but I'm talking about Justin Thomas. Yeah, go ahead. Jarod McInroy: Can I guess? Is it JT, Spieth and Ricky? Yeah, baby. Nathan Hawthorne: Yes! Yes! Yes, it is. Jordan Spieth. We're running out of star power. You haven't won since 2022. But the thing is, is he talks to his golf ball like all of us do, just a little bit louder. And so we love it. I'm like, ⁓ look at sit, sit ball, sit, bite, bite, okay. Come on. Michael, was that the right club, Michael? What are we doing, Michael? Like, I get it, and it's fun and it's funny. And he's guaranteed to have at least one, if not two. How did he make par from there around? And so the content stays relevant, but he's got to be able to dial it in. I don't know what has happened since he started to chase that distance. He just can't get back in the winner circle. He's having a tough time just putting all of his game together. You can tell that he has a talent and has the ability. It's obvious that he does. That's why he ripped off so many major championships right in a row. It's just something's not quite clicking for him. ⁓ in these big tournaments and in these big events, like this year alone, he's not doing well. Ricky Fowler, same deal. I think he only has one top ten this year. ⁓ and it's a guy who also hasn't won since 2022 or 2023. You can only wear the orange cream sickle for so long. Okay, I'm getting tired of it. And I want for him to win, but he's gotta w he's gotta want to win also. And then again, with our last guy, Justin Thomas. He had that epic comeback for the PGA championship and then he ended up winning, I want to say it was the RBC Heritage, ⁓ in twenty twenty five to kind of get back in the winner circle. yeah, something like that. But the but the deal is is right. So and f and for Justin Thomas, like this is a guy that we had very, very early written, ⁓ yeah, this is World Golf Hall of Fame. No doubt. Jarod McInroy: Yep. In a playoff against Matt Fitzpatrick. Yep. Nathan Hawthorne: And now you're kinda like, are you just another guy with two majors? And your two majors are the PGA championship. And not to say that that makes your resume incomplete. He's already done more than most golfers ever will. But if you don't have a second different major and it's not, you know, the open or obviously any any of the other three, then I just I don't know what to think about you. And again, like he's already done so much and he's so loved by the fans and he's so great with his wedges, the different flights and and and different spins he can control it with, but With the driver and his long irons, he's really gotta find a way to keep keep the ball in control. He's almost spinning it too much for his own good right now. He's gotta find it. And then and then that next guy legacy defining was Bryson. Yeah. Jarod McInroy: Yeah, I got a question. Was Bryson, I was going to say, so because he's he's he's much like JT in that. ⁓ So the question being. Is Bryson's two US Open's versus JT's two PGA championships, are those on the same level or do Bryson's mean more because they were US Open's? Nathan Hawthorne: I think Bryson's mean more because they were US opens. And one of and one of JT's, and I respect it because he went crazy. I think he went five or six under ⁓ on that Sunday. And he was and he was in and he was in the yeah, that's what I'm saying. So he finished in the clubhouse at a number, and for some reason everyone else just bottled it. That was a Mito Prairie. Yeah, and so he come he comes out like Jarod McInroy: Okay. Well, he did practically get handled one of them, It was a Mido Pereira. They just put one in the water. Yeah. Nathan Hawthorne: Three hours later, after everybody finished, he's like, ⁓ shit, I won? Like, what are we talking about? ⁓ again, but nobody hands you those tournaments. And I've got one last guy, actually, and it's and it's Brooks Kepka. This ⁓ it's the same kind of deal where, yeah, you've got five majors, you've got three PGA championships, you've got two U.S. opens, and actually you've won a US Open at this venue at Shinnecock. You've got that live stink on you, unfortunately. And he's playing. Jarod McInroy: Yeah. Nathan Hawthorne: Brooks Kepger right now is playing like a mid tour player, where you have that hot round, you're leading the leaderboard after Thursday, where you have a great moving day, and then you just falter. And he's putting, I want to say he's 104th strokes gained putting. He's got to find confidence with the putter. I think he's driving the ball just fine. His wedges are just fine. He's doing everything great. But listen, get the Scotty back in the bag, find your confidence, find your swagger, and just get the ball in the bottom of the cup. He's just, he's throwing. Jarod McInroy: Yeah. Nathan Hawthorne: thinking so much on the green right now and it's it's almost painful to watch. So ⁓ if if Bryce if not I'm sorry, not if Bryce, if Brooks can clean that up, I think he'll be all right. Jarod McInroy: Yeah, he just seems like he's he's uncomfortable. It seems like he lost his confidence like because I think I think people underestimate how non-competitive those live events really are. ⁓ And he's he's in the thick of it. There's guys coming out of nowhere that want his spot in that top, ⁓ you know, 50 top 30 at the end of the year. Like those those spots are not going to be handed to him. Nathan Hawthorne: So uncomfortable. Jarod McInroy: And I think he's kind of feeling that pressure now because every week we keep asking is it gonna be Brooks's week is he and he's playing in some of these tournaments that he Used to not want to have to play in because he didn't have to because he was winning majors and getting FedEx Cup points so like ⁓ Yeah, it's kind of sad to see and I want him to get back on track sooner than later But it's it certainly seems like it's just a confidence thing like his game is there. It's yeah Nathan Hawthorne: Yeah. With and with the putters specifically. And then last one, I've got my young stars. Okay. It's time to prove it. You've been on the tour. And I get I bet you can guess this name. But it's time. It's time to get your major championship win. No, not Chris Godd up. I he's still he's still got more time. He had that runner up at the open, I believe, or a top three. But he's I he's still got time to meet. And this guy in particular, we've talked about him a lot this year. Jarod McInroy: Chris Goddard up. Damn it, okay. Nathan Hawthorne: ⁓ Ludwig Oberg. It's time to close out a Sunday, right? You've got to win on tour. You're playing well, you're driving the ball great. Your stroke screened approach is fantastic, but you got to close out on a Sunday. Too many times this year we've seen him falter on Sundays. And if we are giving you this future number one in the world, you know, he's gonna be an eternal, you know, rider cup player for the Europeans, a force to dominate. I need to see it. I need to see that killer finish. And I think he's capable. And I think it's coming for him. But this is his third full year on tour now. And I think two years ⁓ previous to that he had some ⁓ temporary status. But I need to see that major championship killer finish. And if there's a venue to do it, maybe it's shinaclock. I'm not quite sure. But it seems like he misses at the wrong times. Right? Like you can Jarod McInroy: Yeah, with his driver accuracy, it's gonna be a tough place for a man. It's gonna be tough. He does need it. This would be a great place to do it. This would be a great place to show like I can do it. And maybe that's taking other clubs off the tee. But God, when he misses it, he misses so bad. But this just this will be a place where you'll find his ball. He might not like the lie. Nathan Hawthorne: Mm-hmm. Jarod McInroy: but you'll find that you can find just about anything out there ⁓ Nathan Hawthorne: The fans will the fans will find it for you. The camera will find it for you. The volunteers will find it for you. Anyone, any but I don't want to get off track. But could I just get a spotter for my rounds? Can a golf course, a public course, start hiring guys and just give them a free round of golf? Just like, hey, don't caddy for this guy. Just be out there and spot his ball. That'd be I'd pay an extra five bucks a round for that. Maximum. Jarod McInroy: and then give you the signals when you hit the fairway. Nathan Hawthorne: That'd be hilarious. And then the the other young superstar, and this one's not legacy defining. I'm not concerned about him, but I want to see it. Cameron Young. Get that major championship. You've played excellent golf is golf this year already. You've got wins under the belt. Go close out a major. That's all I've got to say for Cam Young. Jarod McInroy: when hate it. Mm-hmm. Yeah, that's another one where it's like it's it's coming. It's just how soon will it come? But it's gonna be it's gonna be sooner than later. I think Nathan Hawthorne: Now now I gotta ask you the world famous question. Who do you have winning the two thousand and twenty six United States Open Golf Championship? Jarod McInroy: Ooh. You already know who I think is going to got two for you though. One of them is going to be a good one, but let's just get the first one out of the way. The story's written. Go. Go to whatever betting sites you like. Whatever. Draft Kings, FanDuel. None of them are sponsors. Maybe they will be in the future. Go put all your money on Scottie Scheffler. It's his birthday is on Sunday, his 30th birthday. It's father's day. It's his grand slam. If Scotty Scheffler does not win, then Adam Silver has nothing to do with the outcome of this. If he would be rigged, because you told me he's rigging everything. So somebody's got to get in and rig this thing. They got to start putting magnets on the greens. ⁓ That's going to sell them. That's going to sell the tournament for him. If Scotty wins and Nathan Hawthorne: Where where'd Adam Silver come from? They already have ⁓ Jarod McInroy: We're waiting for him to have that that big breakout moment this season talk about someone who feels like they're asleep at the wheel Scotty needs to Wake up now. It's it's now you got two more two more majors left If you're gonna go majorless this year, that's gonna I mean then again like that's crazy to have that high of expectations for somebody but that's how good of a golfer he has been ⁓ so It's Scotty But here's my take, okay? Are you ready for this one? And maybe he won't win. Maybe he won't win. Nathan Hawthorne: Let's hear it. Let's hear it. Jarod McInroy: I love my guy, Tyrell Hatton, put him in a top five at a minimum. I want to see Tyrell there. ⁓ He's another guy that I'm like, we've watched him compete for so many tournaments and play such good golf and shoot these crazy rounds where he's like nine under 10 under like the most insane rounds and in majors too, like he'll randomly like be ho humming around, make the cut and then pop off for like ⁓ a six under and a seven under back to back days and somehow make a top five. Nathan Hawthorne: Ha ha ha. Jarod McInroy: Like I want to see him string together four rounds and compete. And again, I know I'm naming another live guy, but like this is another live guy that I want back on the tour when this thing ultimately fails. ⁓ and this would be a great moment to do it. So. To all hadn't come on, go win yourself a major. Nathan Hawthorne: Yeah. Yeah. I believe that. I just lost my light. The light. I like that. I like that Tyrell Hatton pick. Scotty Scheffler, it's like, okay. I could pick him for every major in every tournament and probably, you know, be in some good shape. Tyrell Hatton surprises me though. Tyrell Hatton surprises me, but I'm gonna surprise you with this pick. Okay. He is a live guy. Jarod McInroy: Yeah, it could. here. Nathan Hawthorne: Who is going to win? And I faded him hard for the PJ Championship, John Rom. Jarod McInroy: okay. I thought you were gonna say like Waki Neiman or something. Nathan Hawthorne: Joaquim Neiman. No. I took a look at Joaquin Neiman. I took a look at Cam Smith just for you know some top 25s, things like that. I feel confident in John Rahm's game after seeing him at the open championship. After kind of having a disaster at Augusta, he kind of pulled himself back together in terms of getting his swing speed back under control, driving the ball more accurately. And then he's got some of the best wedge game and short game that you'll see. You're gonna need that here at Shinnecock. ⁓ he's an excellent putter. And I just think that he's coming in now. The Masters was embarrassing. PGA championship. He got his feet back underneath him. And then here at the US Open, an event in a tournament he's already won at Torrey Pines. He has the pedigree to do it. And I think that he's hungry to do it. ⁓ you know, with Bryson, we were talking about, you know, are you content? Are you hungry? To me, Rom's not hungry. He wants to solidify himself as the number one European player and still one of the number one Jarod McInroy: No. Nathan Hawthorne: Or ⁓ you know, a top three player in the world. ⁓ in unfortunately the live points, you know, they're just starting to get them. He's not gonna really be able to do that. But I think that he wants it batter, batter. He wants it. Gotta go to school. ⁓ he wants it. He wants us more than anybody right now. but I do, yeah, I do also have a surprise pick for you. Okay, and this is solely based off of. Jarod McInroy: Love it. Don't hate it. Nathan Hawthorne: An even killed, steady golfer, not the most distance, but a great putter. He won earlier this year. He's a young guy, Jacob Bridgeman. Jarod McInroy: ⁓ he kinda cooled off, man. Nathan Hawthorne: I think Jacob I think I know, but I think he could be a first time major winner. I think his form is fine right now. But I think if you're looking at the US Open at Shinnecock, I think that while a lot of times I've been talking a lot about, ⁓ this venue is not for a first time major championship winner, I'm trying to undo my thinking. I think Jacob Bridgman could do it. And kinda like you said with Tiro Tyrrell Hatton, he might not do it, but I think he's a sneaky pick to to make him to make a run for the US Open this year. Jarod McInroy: hate it. Don't hate it. He played good golf this year and if he can just get back to that and show us a little consistency then he could be a name that sticks around for a little bit but yeah don't hate it. Nathan Hawthorne: Yeah, he's an even killed guy. Yeah, absolutely. Jarod McInroy: Alright, that's it for the US Open. I think it's gonna be a great week. I'm excited to come back next week with how we were incredibly right or incredibly wrong on how it finishes out, but ⁓ don't actually put any US currency on anything we say. I don't want to be liable for that. Nathan Hawthorne: We don't we don't want you guys in the comments screaming that you put some money down. You told me Jacob Bridgman was I said maybe. ⁓ but you c honestly maybe bet low round of the week to Rell Hatton. Not financial advice, but he's a guy that could do that. Jarod McInroy: Yeah... You told me Tyrell Haddon ⁓ Yeah, that's not a bad play. He always does, I'm telling you. Like, he'll randomly just pop off a Saturday or a Friday or like, whenever. ⁓ Yeah, not so much that one. ⁓ Okay, I got a surprise NFL segment for you here at Switching Gears. Now we've done this, this is a fun one. I always love this segment. But we're gonna switch up what the theme is gonna be. So this is gonna be the King of the Hill. Nathan Hawthorne: Him or Keegan Bradley? Talk to me. Jarod McInroy: So for the rules, everyone knows. King of the Hill, I'm gonna give you two names. You're gonna tell me which one you're taking over those two. ⁓ I'm gonna bring a new guy after you choose and we're gonna see who's left standing at the end. Nathan Hawthorne: Mm. All right, let's hear it. Jarod McInroy: The theme for this week is going to be... just okay NFL head coaches. That's it. They're just okay. They're not the elite. They're not the top of the barrel. They're just okay. And maybe they're bad, but they're just okay. You know? Nathan Hawthorne: Okay. He said just okay. Just okay. Okay. Jarod McInroy: Are you ready for your first two names? Nathan Hawthorne: I'm ready. Jarod McInroy: Who are you taking as your NFL head coach, starting tomorrow? You got an opening. Are you taking Aaron Glenn or are you taking Shane Steichen? Nathan Hawthorne: I'm taking Shane Steichen. I think Shane Steichen, it it is a little bit tough. Jets job is a much harder job to come into than what the Colts had situationally. But Shane Steichen, I trust to get my quarterback playing well. ⁓ he's been unlucky with the quarterbacks that he's had with Anthony Richardson, had to bring in Phillip Rivers there for a little bit. ⁓ but as soon as he got Daniel Jones, a semi capable quarterback, that Colts team started to look Really, really good. ⁓ and as far as an effective communicator for what I want my culture to look like and how I want my guys, my team to operate, I put him not quite in the Ben Johnson tier, but a a ⁓ similar tier of a great communicator. That's one of the things you have to do as a head coach is be a communicator. Shane Steichen to me is that guy. I and I love Aaron Glenn. I think he's a great players coach, really understands the game. But as far as communicating that trickle down to the staff. Building that staff and what needs to be done across the rest of the org. I'm not sure if he's the guy. Shane Siken. Jarod McInroy: Okay, I don't hate it. I like Shane Steichen a lot and that's why wanted him at the top of this list because I want you to have to compare him to a few other names. ⁓ So okay, Shane Steichen wins. He's moving on to round two. The next name up is are you taking Shane Steichen or are you taking Dan Quinn? Nathan Hawthorne: Let's hear it. Who? Shane Shane Steichen. I already know what Dan Quinn's gonna do. He's gonna bottle a game without an amazing offensive coordinator. I like Dan Quinn. He's a great, he's a great defensive culture builder, but when he has not been paired with an elite offensive coach on his team, his teams don't do very well. And we're seeing that in Washington right now, right? You had that one year of Cliff Kingsbury ⁓ coming in and kind of electrifying a glorified college offense with Jaden Daniels. Jarod McInroy: Hang on. Nathan Hawthorne: And then things didn't really look so hot. So I and things really fell apart for him in Atlanta once Jarod McInroy: He didn't have a quarterback last year. He led the Falcons to a Super Bowl. Nathan Hawthorne: Right, but that was with who? As his offensive coordinator? Jarod McInroy: Matt Ryan? ⁓ okay. Yeah. Nathan Hawthorne: Hello? Is it he's coaching in San Francisco now? Kyle Shanahan. Cal Shanahan was the offensive quarter, and as soon as he left, woof. Jarod McInroy: Kevin Stefanski? ⁓ Alright. That's, I feel like that was harsh on my boy Dan Quinn. Nathan Hawthorne: Anyways, but yeah, Sh Shane Sycano kids and I no that no well, the thing is is I know what Dan Quinn is. I've seen him coach long enough across a number of different orgs. Jarod McInroy: fair. Alright, you're gonna hate the next name. Are you taking Shane Steichen or you taking Nick Cereoni? Nathan Hawthorne: Okay. Next. They should have they should they should have fired Ciriani after the Super Bowl win and hired Chainstyken. Jarod McInroy: I had to throw better Alright, your next name up. And this is a similar type beat to Shane Steichen. Are you taking Shane Steichen or you taking Brian Schottenheimer? Nathan Hawthorne: Shame second. Jarod McInroy: Again, okay. Nathan Hawthorne: I like Brian Schottenheimer again, that offense got figured out towards the second half of the year and I'm big on details. Did your team with what you were coaching and communicating get better or worse towards the end of the year? Were things trending up and is the culture looking better? And to me, it didn't look like anything was going better towards the end of the season. Jarod McInroy: Alright. Don't hate it. Okay. God, Steichen's just cleaning house right now. He's a... Wow. Nathan Hawthorne: He's ⁓ I'm I'd put Shane Siken kind of like in one of those you know, up upper tiers of coaches. Jarod McInroy: Well, that's what this is. can't say he's maybe he's the best of the mid. We'll see. Are you taking Shane Steichen? Are you taking Todd Bowles? Nathan Hawthorne: Ooh, that one is a tougher one. Just 'cause I I personally like Tod Tod Bulls. Jarod McInroy: Yeah, he's a good coach. This, you know, this Bucks team, I don't even think they're nearly or haven't been nearly as good as, they've performed. Like they talent wise on paper. mean, they're, they're kind of just been okay. Nathan Hawthorne: They Talent wise, and they and they the defense kind of let two years ago when they still had Liam Cohen as the offensive coordinator, they were kind of let down by the defense in a number of situations. And Todd Bowles is supposed to be the defensive guy. And it's hard to say this, that, and the other because Shane Steichen hasn't put together a team that's been healthy and ready to go by the end of the season. Man, that's a tough one. I'm gonna I'm gonna rock steady with Shane Steichen. Jarod McInroy: Mm-hmm. Mm-hmm. Nathan Hawthorne: Because he's still I'm yeah, I'm gonna rock say with Shane Steichen. But I that's that's the closest one so far because I really like Todd Bowles. Jarod McInroy: Hey, I don't hate it. Alright. Next time up. And this is a young gun. Kellen Moore. Who are you taking? Kellen Moore or Shane Steichen? Yeah. Nathan Hawthorne: Give me, give me Kellen more. Give me Kellen Moore. He made that, he he made that New Orleans team by the end of the season exciting. Say what you want. He made them exciting. Did were they competing? Not necessarily. But again, what I was talking about from the start of the season to the end of the season, did you think did you see things trending up? Did players buy in? And to me, the answer is yes. And I think we're going to be surprised with. how good New Orleans is is is this year. I'm not saying how good is in, ⁓ they're about to win twelve games, but this team could be five hundred. Yeah, this team could be five hundred and could be very competitive. Jarod McInroy: Yeah, but like competitive. Okay. And this one, think it's going to be, I might even just call it at this one because I think it's the perfect finale to this list, but I will give you one more name after anyways. But are you taking Kellyn Moore? Are you taking D'Amico-Ryans? Cause I feel like this should be your, your Super Bowl matchup of, and I don't want to say they're not mid coaches. These are just not the top tier of coaches. Nathan Hawthorne: Okay. A meh If Jarod McInroy: They're just missing the... they're just missing the... Nathan Hawthorne: If D'Amico Ryans could hire Kellen Moore as his offensive coordinator, I would do that in a heartbeat. I love I'm gonna go D'Amico Ryans here. D'Amico Ryans just needs to get somebody who's more competent offensively in the building. And for some reason, he can't reckon it's kind of like a Mike Tomlin situation, right? Like you know your side of the ball, you know defense, you know how to get this team set up, but just your ability to process offense just is not there. And so he needs to get somebody in there that will. And I've got faith that he's gonna get that figured out. ⁓ I'm gonna go D'Amico Ryan's. Jarod McInroy: All right, we're gonna call it there. That's gonna be the list. Demeek O'Rians is officially the king of the hill for mid NFL head coaches. Now I do wanna tell you this last name. That's great. Honestly, I was very surprised, one, that Shane Stoekin made it that far for you. you'd give him, I thought I heard you kinda talk crap about him a few episodes ago. That's why I wanted him up there, because I'm a big fan of his. I believed in the Colts. Nathan Hawthorne: I'll tell you what, I feel so good about I feel so good about that. Mm. Jarod McInroy: I still am not fully nodding on the Colts. ⁓ They clearly have a few holes and some stuff they got to figure out. ⁓ But I like him as a head coach. So ⁓ now this name, just, I just want to compare it just for, for fun here. Are you taking D'Amico Ryan's? you taking the guy who just walks around the building and doesn't know anything about football? Just John Harbaugh, just old John Harbaugh. Nathan Hawthorne: I'm taking D'Amico Ryan's. Jarod McInroy: You're standing on that. Nathan Hawthorne: Standing on it. And I like, I like John Harbaugh as a coach. I think he's one of the great coaches in the NFL, but I know I know what I'm getting from John Harbaugh. I've seen a long enough c career. Exactly, but with an all-time defense, by the way. Well, he was recently promoted and was just a glorified offensive coordinator. I'm sorry, a glorified special teams coordinator. Anyways. Jarod McInroy: a Super Bowl championship. Who says he can't build an all-time defense? Nathan Hawthorne: I'm not saying he can't. What I'm saying is I like John Harbaugh a lot. I've seen enough of him. There there comes a point where some of that old guard, they just you you just lose your touch a little bit. You lose your fastball as being that head coach. Jarod McInroy: Seahawks put together two all-time defenses under two different head coaches. Who says that he can't just do it again? Nathan Hawthorne: Under Pete Carroll. Well, Pete Carroll was a defensive head was a defensive focus guy. And then Mike McDonald was the Ravens defensive coordinator. And when he left their defense was bad the next year. Jarod McInroy: Okay. Both are. And you're telling me John Harbaugh isn't a typically a- okay. Alright. Nathan Hawthorne: Like like those are two defensive head coaches saying, I'm gonna build my side of the ball. And then I've got do and guess what D'Amico Ryans is doing? He's putting together an all time defense right now. With Jarod McInroy: God, there's just, I'm not over this. I'm not over this hate for John Harbaugh. No, I love D'Amico Rhynes. I love him and I hate that he had to be the name that I had to compare him against. ⁓ Because I do love D'Amico Rhynes as a head coach, but just the John Harrod disrespect kills me, Nathan Hawthorne: He's to me also he's a little bit too old for this list, if you were to ask me. He's he's like fifty years older than everyone else on the list. Jarod McInroy: Alright. And by the way, I did leave off all brand new head coaches, we don't know what they are yet. Okay, that's it. King of the Hill, D'Amico, Ryan's. What do you got for me? Nathan Hawthorne: That's fair. Yeah. The quarterback position is very important. And we just saw Patrick Mahomes get a $504, $503 million contract as part of his extension. A lot of millions. I I want to say it's up to $64 million average annual value right now. At what point are you paying your quarterback too much money? So what we're gonna do here is blind resume. We are going to look at their 2025 stats. Jarod McInroy: Mm-hmm. lot of millions. Nathan Hawthorne: And I'm going to tell you, you're going to maybe take a guess who it is. I will then tell you who it is. And I will tell you what their 2026 cap hit is. And I want you to. Jarod McInroy: Can I make one adjustment? Can you tell me the cap it before you tell me who it is so then I can tell you if it's worth it? Nathan Hawthorne: Talk to No, no, because the cap hit might give it away. I want you to I want you to know purely I want you to know purely the numbers if I'm evaluating this quarterback and he does this for me. And then it's okay, am I paying him too much? Okay. So I want are we are we signing this guy and we paying him the cheddar or are we cutting him? Okay. First guy. Played all 17 games in 2025. 4,564 passing yards. Jarod McInroy: ⁓ that's fair. Okay. Yeah, that's fair. All right, let's do it. Nathan Hawthorne: S sixty eight percent completion percentage, thirty-four touchdowns, eight interceptions. Jarod McInroy: That's a good year. Can I tell you who I think it or am I guessing or am I telling you if I'm keeping or cutting them? Nathan Hawthorne: Yeah, it's a good year. You can guess who it is and then tell me if you're keeping or cutting ⁓ I'll tell you who it is before you decide. Jarod McInroy: Let's do the reverse order. Let's do the reverse order. I would say just on the stat line alone. I'm keeping that. That's a great season. That's a quarterback who's ready to rock. My guess? I was going to say I'm between golf or DAC, but okay. Jared Goff. Got it. Nathan Hawthorne: Okay. Yeah. Okay. That's Jared Goff. Do you want to guess what his cap hit is? Jarod McInroy: He's gotta be at like 51 million, right? Nathan Hawthorne: So his average annual contract value is at fifty three million, but his cap hit in twenty twenty six will be thirty seven million. Thirty seven point six million. Jarod McInroy: Wow. His was on an extension, that's why I ran. Nathan Hawthorne: Yeah. But this is this is for twenty twenty six though. So this is what you're paying them coming up. Jarod McInroy: Got it. ⁓ I'm taking that. I'll tell you what, I'll take that 37 million for that kind of production. That's insane. Nathan Hawthorne: Okay, next guy, three thousand nine hundred and thirty-one passing yards, sixty-three point four percent completion percentage, twenty-five touchdowns, eleven picks. Jarod McInroy: Okay, this feels like... 11 picks, 25 touchdowns. I feel like Josh Allen didn't throw from any touchdowns last year. I'm gonna guess it's Josh Allen and I'm gonna cut that stat line by the way. Nathan Hawthorne: It is not Josh Allen. It is Bonix. Jarod McInroy: Wow, he really did get carried by that defense, didn't he? Nathan Hawthorne: Bonics. He had a and he will have in twenty twenty six a five million dollar cap hit. Do you take that for Bonex with that stat line? Or do you cut and you find something different? Jarod McInroy: Nah, I'm keeping that. Yeah, of course. I for that, for that amount. Yeah. Clearly it's a, it's somebody who's selling their rookie deal. He has a lot to prove. He could get better. ⁓ God, he really threw them. Okay. Yeah. I'm going to say keep. Yeah. Keep and let it, let it go just based on the contract value alone. Nathan Hawthorne: Keeping it. Yeah. Okay. This guy played all seventeen games, had four thousand and forty eight passing yards, a sixty seven percent completion percentage, twenty five touchdowns, fourteen picks. Jarod McInroy: Mm-hmm. 14 picks, you said 25, what was the completion percentage? Nathan Hawthorne: Sixty seven point seven, so almost sixty eight, and four thousand and forty eight passing yards. That's a lot of yards. Jarod McInroy: That's a good amount. Two of every three passes are getting caught. That's pretty good. Who was slinging that thing like that for 17 games? Nathan Hawthorne: Twenty five touchdowns, but fourteen picks. So half the time he's throwing a touchdown, he's throwing a pick. Jarod McInroy: That's a lot of pics, I hear ya. Is this Baker Mayfield? Nathan Hawthorne: It is not Baker Mayfield. Jarod McInroy: Mmm, that just felt like his like a stat line. He would have for me. Okay, one more guess then give me one more If it's not Baker Sam Darnold Nathan Hawthorne: It is Sam Darnold. Jarod McInroy: Yeah. ⁓ it felt like Sam. Nathan Hawthorne: His cap hit will be thirty eight his cap hit will be thirty-eight million next year. Jarod McInroy: Keeping them, you just want a silver bullet. Come on man. Nathan Hawthorne: He did. He did indeed just win a Super Bowl. Jarod McInroy: we're keeping them that's that that he threw a lot of picks so he was he he he did he made a lot of bad decisions but he in the playoffs turned it on so that's all that matters Nathan Hawthorne: Indeed. Indeed. And this individual, where'd my list go? Here we go. Only played in fifteen games. Three thousand three hundred and eighty-one passing yards. Sixty-six played in fifteen games, three thousand three hundred and eighty-one passing yards, a sixty six point three percent completion percentage, twenty-three touchdowns, six interceptions. Jarod McInroy: Wait, how many? Sorry. ⁓ huh. at first i was thinking brock purdy is it brock purdy? okay let me think again for a second then back to the drawing board 15 games only had a couple yeah that didn't feel right um who missed a little time last year who missed a little time um let's go over to Nathan Hawthorne: It is not Brock Purdy. I think I think Brock missed a few more. Jarod McInroy: Jalen Hurts missing in games last year. Nathan Hawthorne: I believe Jalen Hurts played an all. It is not Jalen Hurts. Jarod McInroy: Okay, then I got one more for you. ⁓ I'm running through the list of names in my head really quick. Nathan Hawthorne: Three, two, one. Jarod McInroy: There's no one on the browns. know that much. Hang on, hang hang hang on, hang on, hang on. It is Bryce Young. Nathan Hawthorne: It is not Bryce Young, it is Jordan Love. Jarod McInroy: Damn it. Jordan, ⁓ my god. That's a terrible stat line. Nathan Hawthorne: Paying his average annual value is gonna be fifty five million and his cap hit will be thirty six million dollars this year. So I believe this is the last year before his extension kicks in. Jarod McInroy: Miss me on that. Yeah, I'm going to cut that a hundred percent of the time. Jordan love is a good quarterback. He has good abilities. He has terrible instincts. And I think I just, and maybe it's just the recipe of him, how he likes to play football and who Matt LaFleur is. Um, I, maybe it's that maybe he needs a new, just a new environment to see how, how he does. Um, Nathan Hawthorne: Yeah. LaFleur wants LaFleur wants you to be in here, in his system, right? He's a system guy. But Jordan Love is a little bit more loosey goosey. He doesn't always love standing in the pocket and delivering the football. He'd like to get out, use his feet more, and use that arm talent he has. So yeah, I honestly maybe a new situation would look good for him. Jarod McInroy: That's not good numbers for the team he has. Also. Did you see the contract they just gave to Christian Watson? Four year, ⁓ $110 million. Nathan Hawthorne: That's what, twenty six a year? Jarod McInroy: Yeah, for Christian Watson. Nathan Hawthorne: Twenty seven a year. Yeah. ⁓ he see Jarod McInroy: Green Bay, dude, they're in, you wanna talk about a team in Purgatory? They've made so many, like just not good enough moves, like desperation moves that I am, I'm almost all the way out on them. Like I'm close. I'm close to saying they might be the worst team in their division. I'm so close to it. Nathan Hawthorne: I that surprises me because the going weight for an elite the going the going rate for an elite wide receiver right now, it is higher. It's starting to trend up. But when you pay an elite wide receiver like that and you give him four years You need them to play minimum 15 games a year. And I don't know if you can get that out of Christian Watson. And if you can get 17 games, I know at least at least seven of them, he's playing at maybe 70% from his hamstring or his ankle or his knee. And that's the big concern. A a fully healthy Christian Watson, I'm I'm all in on that price tag. But again, like part of it is knowing your personnel. Yeah, I am. I am 100%. Right. And I and I think Jarod McInroy: Yeah. Yeah. Are you? I think he's okay. I he's pretty good. 26 million dollars a year though. That's crazy. Nathan Hawthorne: Yeah, but that's significantly less than your top tier of wide receivers. We just did, you know, the one through the one through ten. Like he's a tier below that, which is what that contract, you know, would reflect. Jarod McInroy: Alright, alright, yeah sure. Who's my next name? Nathan Hawthorne: And last name I last name I got for you, ⁓ played in sixteen games, so missed one, had a ⁓ sixty four point eight percent completion percentage, three thousand two hundred and twenty four yards. Where'd my touchdowns go? my goodness. Jarod McInroy: Mm-hmm. Mm-hmm. I'm to clock it already. Nathan Hawthorne: twenty five touchdowns and six interceptions. Jarod McInroy: 25 and 6, god these dudes are just throwing just an okay amount of touchdowns 6 is pretty low though, he's taking care of the football This might be, actually that might be terrible. I feel like he might have, my first guess, my first thought was Aaron Rodgers, am I wrong? Okay. Then my second thought, and I didn't even know if he had missed any games last year, I didn't even think about that. ⁓ Nathan Hawthorne: You are wrong. Jarod McInroy: Going through the divisions again, who played a whole bunch. It's a Lamar Jackson. Nathan Hawthorne: It is not it is not Lamar, it is Jalen Hurts. It's Jalen Hurts and his contract, the average annual annual value is gonna be fifty one million and the cap hit of thirty one million. Jarod McInroy: okay hurt. ⁓ No pun intended. But I'll tell you what, they're paying him a lot of money. Again, it's just like we were just talking about the wide receiver market, the going rate for a starting quarterback is so much higher than it has been in years past. ⁓ want to say keeps so bad because like I do believe in him. ⁓ do think their locker rooms bad I do think that I mean we you and I go in on Nick Sariani every week ⁓ like ⁓ maybe a new ⁓ new coach something new ⁓ I just fear that if a new coach comes in I don't know how sold they're gonna be on ⁓ to put all their eggs in jail and hurts baskets So ⁓ that, I'm just like ⁓ 50-50. ⁓ if it's me, I'm taking him Nathan Hawthorne: Mm-hmm. Jarod McInroy: I'm going to say he's a serviceable quarterback. He's clearly won a Super Bowl before. ⁓ think, I think they just, there's too much going wrong ⁓ in, the back of the house in Philadelphia that they need to fix. And I don't think it's necessarily their actual personnel on the field. ⁓ So I'm going to keep them. And I believe in Jalen Hertz. Nathan Hawthorne: Okay. That's gonna do it for the blind resume keep or cut. We'll refine that segment a little bit. I like it. I wanna pose it to you a little bit differently. I wanna make that more of a challenge for you to ⁓ say keep or cut. So but we like it. Jarod McInroy: Yeah. I don't hate it. Maybe if I didn't know the name before I kept them or cut them, then I gotta just take them just on their numbers. Because the names did really sway me away from even what the numbers told me. ⁓ Nathan Hawthorne: Yeah, we'll I will refine it and kick. Yeah. But it does make you look again at the numbers and be like, How much value is this guy actually providing for how much he gets paid? 'Cause that's now that that was the question, right? Is are they worth the cheddar? Jarod McInroy: Yeah, it's true. Yeah, some were, some weren't. Nathan Hawthorne: Kw KYP listeners, let us know. Let us know what you think. Jarod McInroy: Mm-hmm.
