- 0:19Speaker 2: 10 Ladies and gentlemen, welcome to the Mike Blitz.
- 0:32Speaker 2: I'm your host, Mike Wade, my co-host over there, Mike White.
- 0:35Speaker 3: Happy Wednesday, my man Happy Wednesday.
- 0:37Speaker 3: Good morning and good birthday, thank you.
- 0:40Speaker 2: Thank you very much.
- 0:41Speaker 2: Those of you who don't know, today is my 40th birthday.
- 0:44Speaker 2: First day of the rest of my life is a 40-year-old.
- 0:46Speaker 2: I woke up.
- 0:47Speaker 2: Coffee feels delicious.
- 0:48Speaker 2: Feel a little older.
- 0:49Speaker 2: Took a couple extra looks at my grass this morning.
- 0:52Speaker 2: I feel like I'm really bracing this next decade of my life.
- 0:54Speaker 2: So that's good news.
- 0:56Speaker 2: Off to a good start.
- 0:57Speaker 3: Yeah, you're looking good, you're looking fresh.
- 0:59Speaker 2: Thank, you, thank you.
- 1:00Speaker 2: Thank you very much, very excited.
- 1:02Speaker 2: So wife's got some things planned for me later today, very excited to enjoy my 40th birthday.
- 1:06Speaker 2: But obviously there's nothing else I'd rather do on my birthday than talk about football.
- 1:09Speaker 2: So that's what we're doing today.
- 1:10Speaker 2: So it's very exciting.
- 1:12Speaker 2: Before we do that, how are you Quick check in?
- 1:14Speaker 3: I'm doing pretty well.
- 1:15Speaker 3: It took me a couple days to recover from our weekend in Blacksburg.
- 1:19Speaker 3: Yeah, our quick trip, our quick jaunt to Blacksburg.
- 1:24Speaker 2: Yeah, I know we usually stay in homers for last.
- 1:26Speaker 2: Let's go ahead and jump into that.
- 1:27Speaker 2: So those of you who also don't know, mike and I went to the Virginia Tech game together this past weekend.
- 1:31Speaker 3: We went to the Virginia Tech series, series.
- 1:34Speaker 2: Yeah, we went to the experience that happened at Virginia.
- 1:36Speaker 2: We did not see a football game.
- 1:38Speaker 2: Unfortunately, those of you don't know, but honestly, I was telling my wife this earlier.
- 1:41Speaker 2: It was a fabulous trip.
- 1:42Speaker 2: Friday night kicked ass.
- 1:44Speaker 2: We had an awesome dinner in Roanoke at Beamer 25.
- 1:47Speaker 2: Big Lick Brewery was cool.
- 1:49Speaker 2: Shout out Patreon, anna Monkier-Moncy for hosting Mike and I, we even know while she was overseas.
- 1:55Speaker 2: Thank you, thank you, thank you, thank you.
- 1:56Speaker 2: On Saturday, the tailgate was awesome.
- 1:59Speaker 2: Touring our campus was awesome.
- 2:01Speaker 2: Hanging out with you and some other peeps was awesome.
- 2:04Speaker 2: Enter Sandman was awesome.
- 2:06Speaker 2: That was really hyping.
- 2:07Speaker 2: And then we only saw like 13 plays of football.
- 2:10Speaker 3: Yeah, I couldn't recommend Beamer 25 enough.
- 2:13Speaker 3: That place was awesome.
- 2:14Speaker 3: The wings were great, sandwich was great, just the right amount of service.
- 2:22Speaker 3: They didn't care that we were there, but they still brought us some food, it's true, which I was thankful for.
- 2:29Speaker 3: But yeah, I got some good beers.
- 2:30Speaker 3: Yeah, overall, great, great, great trip.
- 2:35Speaker 3: The weather was crazy.
- 2:38Speaker 2: Yeah, yeah.
- 2:39Speaker 2: So those of you who don't know, we went to the game.
- 2:41Speaker 2: We saw about two drives Hudson-Cardwood and drive them down.
- 2:44Speaker 2: The field Went up 7-0.
- 2:46Speaker 2: Immediately it was raining intermittently.
- 2:48Speaker 2: Then it started crashing and booming and they were like everybody get out of the stadium.
- 2:51Speaker 2: And we sat in the concourse for I don't know, 60, 65, 70 minutes tried and they were like we'll reevaluate at 3.30, at which point we were like see ya, although we did get to take that cool hike through the indoor training facility at Virginia.
- 3:03Speaker 3: Tech.
- 3:04Speaker 2: That's a pretty cool little piece of college football Ran a couple button routes, button hooks.
- 3:09Speaker 3: a couple quick outs.
- 3:11Speaker 2: Saw that.
- 3:11Speaker 2: That was sweet.
- 3:12Speaker 2: And then we hit the road and they're coming back to Richmond.
- 3:14Speaker 2: Ended up watching the game from my bedroom, so I got to watch most of the football games Don't forget, don't overlook our Applebee's experience.
- 3:23Speaker 3: We also had a really good neighborhood on my home.
- 3:25Speaker 2: I believe we stopped in Salem.
- 3:26Speaker 2: Virginia Is that where we were?
- 3:27Speaker 2: We were with the Applebee's so we really had dining and the company and the dining.
- 3:33Speaker 2: That was all wonderful experience.
- 3:34Speaker 2: We're going to do that again Later this season or next season.
- 3:37Speaker 2: We're going to do more football trips.
- 3:39Speaker 2: Maybe we'll catch some football next time.
- 3:40Speaker 2: We'll just be open to outcomes.
- 3:42Speaker 2: That'd be ideal.
- 3:43Speaker 2: That'd be ideal.
- 3:44Speaker 2: But I just feel good knowing that when you and I go on football trips together it doesn't really matter.
- 3:48Speaker 2: We're going to have a great time.
- 3:49Speaker 2: Anyway, we talked a lot of ball.
- 3:51Speaker 3: We talked a lot of football.
- 3:53Speaker 3: There's a lot, a lot, a lot of color.
- 3:55Speaker 3: Kyle's football banter.
- 3:56Speaker 2: The three people that were with us heard about 17 podcasts worth of football Just between Mike and I going back and forth.
- 4:02Speaker 2: So yeah, anyway, it was the right call.
- 4:04Speaker 2: They didn't end up resuming the game until 6.20 PM.
- 4:07Speaker 2: By then all of us were back in Richmond.
- 4:09Speaker 2: So is what it is.
- 4:11Speaker 2: Other nature, other plans, but otherwise that was too bad.
- 4:15Speaker 2: We'll talk about the football game.
- 4:18Speaker 2: Genie Tech takes a tough loss there.
- 4:20Speaker 2: I'll tell you my favorite part Kyron Drones got in the last two minutes of the game.
- 4:25Speaker 2: I think we might be seeing a shift to drone season.
- 4:28Speaker 2: Grant Wells a little banged up.
- 4:29Speaker 2: Have they announced a starter for next week yet for the Genie Tech game?
- 4:32Speaker 2: I haven't seen it.
- 4:33Speaker 2: No, I don't see any there.
- 4:34Speaker 2: I just looked a little bit and it looks like they're still going back and forth.
- 4:37Speaker 2: They said they put in Grant Wells the end of the game because he was banged up and he was.
- 4:41Speaker 2: But honestly, I think they're looking for a fresh player.
- 4:45Speaker 2: I think they're looking for something new they know Grant will have with Grant Wells.
- 4:48Speaker 2: I think maybe this is the moment they're going to Rutgers this week.
- 4:52Speaker 2: I think they're about 7 point dog on the road I'm hoping for really optimistic.
- 4:56Speaker 3: It's going to be drone season, so we will see, yeah, I want to see some drone strikes, yes, lots of drone strikes.
- 5:02Speaker 3: Rutgers is notoriously terrible every single year.
- 5:05Speaker 3: So yeah, I'd love to see the Hokies get a win.
- 5:10Speaker 2: Purdue would have tough her test than I thought, yeah, they're two and no, they've beaten two Power Five teams.
- 5:14Speaker 2: Actually, shiana was doing a decent job with Rutgers all things considered, so it's not going to be a gamey.
- 5:20Speaker 2: But this is a game where, if tech is going to go, if they're going to go to a bowl this year, this is one they got to have.
- 5:25Speaker 2: I think this is going to be one of those moments where, if they're between five and seven and seven and five, I think this is one of those games you circle and you say you got to win, so hopefully drones can bring up something fresh.
- 5:37Speaker 2: I know, ali Jennings, their best receiver is out and it looks like their number two might be out as well, so they're going to be a little limited on the outside anyway, which for me even says for more reason to let drones play, because drones can just do more things with his legs and he brings a different element.
- 5:52Speaker 2: If you don't have that outside deep threat, I think Ali Jennings, to establish himself, is that having a quarterback who could do more things, challenge Rutgers defense in more ways, just seems like a better bet to give Virginia Tech a better chance to win.
- 6:05Speaker 3: Yeah, it's got to be drones in tooting season.
- 6:07Speaker 3: Yep, I agree.
- 6:08Speaker 2: I totally agree let's get tooting, let's get tooting.
- 6:11Speaker 2: Tooting's obviously running back for Genetech.
- 6:13Speaker 2: We're all over the place.
- 6:13Speaker 2: We've got a way out of order this show, but whatever.
- 6:15Speaker 2: So let's go back and review some of Week 2, some of our good, some of the good and the bad.
- 6:20Speaker 2: Huge pat on the back to Mike and I, both agreeing solidly that Texas was going to win that game outright, not to spread outright.
- 6:29Speaker 2: We both said it on the pod, we have receipts, so do you Nice call Mike?
- 6:36Speaker 3: Nice call, mike.
- 6:36Speaker 3: Thank you, appreciate it.
- 6:37Speaker 3: Nice call back to you.
- 6:38Speaker 3: Great call by us.
- 6:39Speaker 3: And yeah, I'm feeling really good about that one.
- 6:41Speaker 3: Not surprised at all Now.
- 6:43Speaker 3: Bama looked like we thought they would.
- 6:47Speaker 3: Millrow looked like we thought that he would.
- 6:50Speaker 3: It might be time for quarterback change in Tuscaloosa and Texas is back confirmed.
- 6:57Speaker 2: Texas is really good.
- 6:58Speaker 2: They are the best team in the Big 12 by far.
- 6:59Speaker 2: The question still remains will they drop a silly game?
- 7:02Speaker 2: I still kind of think they will, but they are unquestionably the most talented game.
- 7:05Speaker 2: They went toe to toe for them.
- 7:07Speaker 2: They did not get pushed around and Alabama does not have any superstar coaches other than Saban and they don't have any superstar playmakers on offense or defense.
- 7:15Speaker 2: Right now it seems like their secondary, which is supposed to be all world, is super suspect.
- 7:21Speaker 2: They weren't getting a humongous push, a great pass rush.
- 7:25Speaker 2: Texas came in and did what they said they were going to do, which was take some shots and beat Alabama deep, and they did.
- 7:32Speaker 2: And then, on defense, they forced Millrow to be a pocket passer, which they couldn't.
- 7:37Speaker 2: This is one thing you and I said, and it played exactly the way we said it was going to do is Alabama was going to try and play straight Murder ball, pound the ball, just rush for a million yards to win this game, when they were getting second and nine, third and eight.
- 7:51Speaker 2: They couldn't do that and they were forcing Millrow to throw the ball.
- 7:53Speaker 2: And that's when Alabama just pinned their ears back, dropped eight, he threw some Colisean receptions.
- 7:57Speaker 2: And there you have it.
- 7:59Speaker 2: That's exactly how you.
- 7:59Speaker 2: That's a quality recipe for losing a game.
- 8:03Speaker 3: Yeah, that's a great breakdown.
- 8:04Speaker 3: Bama couldn't run the ball like we thought that they would be able to.
- 8:08Speaker 3: We thought it's.
- 8:09Speaker 3: Texas.
- 8:09Speaker 3: Yeah, I mean, they'll still probably look really good on the ground, but Milro proved to be a pretty pedestrian passer and he can't do it all with his legs.
- 8:19Speaker 3: He still ran for 44 yards.
- 8:20Speaker 3: He ran the ball too much and so, yeah, I expect that they're going to take a look at maybe some other options there.
- 8:27Speaker 2: Yeah, although neither Buckner nor Tyson at this point seem to be particularly promising.
- 8:33Speaker 2: No, this might be, you know.
- 8:35Speaker 2: Is this the end of the Saban era?
- 8:37Speaker 2: Is this the decline?
- 8:39Speaker 2: This is the most vulnerable I've seen Alabama since 2008,.
- 8:44Speaker 2: His like second year, and even then they went to 2007.
- 8:48Speaker 2: This is a team that has holes and has clear deficiencies in a way that I haven't seen an Alabama team have in 15 years.
- 8:56Speaker 3: Yeah, let's be real, they could still run the table and only lose this one game, but they just are sort of they've fallen back down to earth and they're they.
- 9:04Speaker 3: They could easily lose two, three games as well.
- 9:07Speaker 3: So it's not the Bama year used to.
- 9:10Speaker 2: No, I think the talent is there.
- 9:11Speaker 2: But if it's if what you're saying happens, what that also means is there's going to be several people emerge a superstar wide receiver.
- 9:20Speaker 2: Offensive line is going to get a heck of a lot better.
- 9:22Speaker 2: Jalen Milro is going to find a fifth gear, like they're going.
- 9:26Speaker 2: Some things are going to come to come together if that to happen, because what I saw on Saturday, I don't think that's the end of the table, but I also know they do have the ammo in terms of talent.
- 9:36Speaker 3: Yeah, they've got Ole Miss in two weeks, so we'll see.
- 9:39Speaker 3: Yeah, we'll see.
- 9:40Speaker 3: Got to figure it out quick.
- 9:41Speaker 2: Ole Miss is going to score.
- 9:41Speaker 2: The defense is not very great but they're going to score.
- 9:44Speaker 2: Let's talk about that game really quick.
- 9:45Speaker 2: So they went to.
- 9:46Speaker 2: They went to Tulane, they did and want to want a pretty good game.
- 9:51Speaker 2: Tulane is exactly I mean, ole Miss is exactly who I thought.
- 9:56Speaker 2: They were a team that could score a lot of points and they did, and a team that's really questionable.
- 9:59Speaker 2: Defense Michael Pratt was out from knee injury from the last week.
- 10:02Speaker 2: In the backup, kai Horton, he still did a pretty good job moving the ball, spreading it out, and obviously the final score was a 17 point loss.
- 10:10Speaker 2: But that was a very late field goal and then a scoop and score at the very end.
- 10:14Speaker 2: That game was highly contested until the end.
- 10:17Speaker 2: Tulane easily could have won this game.
- 10:20Speaker 2: I came away with this game in two impressions.
- 10:22Speaker 2: One Tulane is still really good.
- 10:24Speaker 2: Even with a backup quarterback they played really really well.
- 10:27Speaker 2: I think they're probably one of the best top two or three G5 schools.
- 10:30Speaker 2: Two Ole Miss can score.
- 10:33Speaker 2: Defense is bad.
- 10:34Speaker 2: That's that's where I am.
- 10:36Speaker 3: Yeah, I was a little surprised to see Ole Miss not leaning on the run as much as last year.
- 10:41Speaker 3: Quenchon Junkins, you know.
- 10:44Speaker 3: He went 18 carries, 48 yards.
- 10:46Speaker 3: I don't know what their offense is going to be.
- 10:49Speaker 3: I still don't know what their identity is this year.
- 10:51Speaker 3: Is it Jackson Dart, you know?
- 10:53Speaker 3: Slinging the ball around I mean, last year was the ground game was kind of their bread and butter and they scored their final ways to score.
- 11:00Speaker 3: I mean Linkhiphson is going to do that.
- 11:01Speaker 3: But it'll be interesting to see if they kind of revert to the ground game again, moving forward, Because that's kind of what they've done successfully in the past and they've got the running back stable to do it.
- 11:12Speaker 2: And outside Junkins it wasn't much better.
- 11:14Speaker 2: 35 or 89 for 2.5 yards carry that's their Ole Miss' whole rushing attack against two lane.
- 11:19Speaker 2: What does that say?
- 11:21Speaker 2: Going to SEC time, I made the offensive line pretty suspect.
- 11:24Speaker 2: I don't question Junkins.
- 11:25Speaker 2: I know I've seen Junkins do great.
- 11:27Speaker 2: He's a stud, he's a stud.
- 11:29Speaker 2: But the play calling the blocking particular run blocking doesn't look great.
- 11:33Speaker 2: Let's go.
- 11:34Speaker 2: Let's talk about one of our way off.
- 11:36Speaker 2: I'm talking about Nebraska, Colorado, Colorado went there, took care of business, put it on him.
- 11:41Speaker 2: I am going to remain bullish on that rule because that's what I really do.
- 11:46Speaker 2: Believe that.
- 11:47Speaker 2: But this team is not it.
- 11:48Speaker 2: And bigger thing is, Jeff Sims is definitely not it?
- 11:52Speaker 3: He is in your 40s and still digging your heels in.
- 11:55Speaker 2: Yeah, what can I say?
- 11:56Speaker 2: I'm an old man stuck in my waist.
- 11:57Speaker 2: It's.
- 11:58Speaker 2: Jeff Sims is a problem.
- 12:00Speaker 2: He is a turnover machine.
- 12:01Speaker 2: He's not good.
- 12:02Speaker 2: I thought Nebraska's defense actually played pretty well.
- 12:05Speaker 2: They didn't get pushed around at all on either side, offensive line or defensive line, which I thought was going to happen.
- 12:10Speaker 2: They are physically stronger team, and that's respect to Colorado, but they don't have any playmakers.
- 12:17Speaker 2: Colorado has many and Jeff Sims, the quarterback, is just.
- 12:21Speaker 2: He's just not it.
- 12:22Speaker 2: He's not it.
- 12:24Speaker 3: Yeah, this game went kind of how I thought it would go.
- 12:27Speaker 3: I didn't know.
- 12:29Speaker 3: I thought Colorado would roll.
- 12:30Speaker 3: I thought they'd put up points and we have a small sample size, but Nebraska has shown an inability to score.
- 12:37Speaker 3: So yeah, colorado continues to impress.
- 12:40Speaker 3: I don't know how much they've been tested.
- 12:43Speaker 3: I don't know how good TCU was.
- 12:46Speaker 3: Maybe there was a bigger step back after their run last year.
- 12:50Speaker 3: We know they've lost a lot of pieces, but Colorado definitely has some superstars.
- 12:56Speaker 3: Will they continue to fill in some of those gaps?
- 12:59Speaker 3: Enough to be a story throughout the year that we're going to find out.
- 13:04Speaker 2: Obviously, one of my bold predictions from the early season was two wins.
- 13:07Speaker 2: They're already there.
- 13:08Speaker 2: I predicted two in 10.
- 13:09Speaker 2: They are two and out, so that will bring us off to a bad start I'm having.
- 13:14Speaker 2: I'm obviously revaling the whole country's, revaling their take on Colorado, if those guys stay healthy and that way those guys, I mean Dylan, edwards, schiller, sanders, travis.
- 13:22Speaker 3: Hunter they're core.
- 13:23Speaker 2: They're kind of core offense.
- 13:24Speaker 2: If those guys stay healthy, I think this is quite.
- 13:26Speaker 2: I think we have to reevaluate.
- 13:28Speaker 2: I think their ceiling might be eight wins.
- 13:30Speaker 2: I mean, I actually think they're maybe even higher and possibly I still think getting to a bulls can be a huge accomplishment because their schedule is about to get.
- 13:38Speaker 2: They've got Colorado State this week, who's terrible.
- 13:40Speaker 2: They're going to win them.
- 13:40Speaker 2: But every other game the rest of the season is a power five opponent and they're good ones.
- 13:44Speaker 2: So I still think getting to a bull is going to be tough, but we obviously have to, I particularly.
- 13:51Speaker 2: You were.
- 13:51Speaker 2: You were read that on.
- 13:52Speaker 2: You said bull, you said bulleligible.
- 13:53Speaker 2: I have to seriously reexamine my Colorado Buffs.
- 13:58Speaker 2: Deon Sanders.
- 13:58Speaker 3: Well, and and we all know that anything can change week to week, especially when you take in the injury front and you've got guys like Travis Hunter playing like a hundred snaps a game, you know how sustainable is it.
- 14:11Speaker 3: I know he's a young stud, he's a young buck, he's not a 40-year-old man like you.
- 14:17Speaker 3: Yeah, he's not.
- 14:17Speaker 2: Yeah, he's not waking up in all the noise and stuff.
- 14:21Speaker 3: Just sleep on your neck wrong in your house two weeks at least.
- 14:24Speaker 2: And he's a.
- 14:24Speaker 2: He's in a low, he's in a low contact position.
- 14:27Speaker 2: Relatively speaking.
- 14:28Speaker 2: It's still football.
- 14:29Speaker 2: You know, he's not a linebacker, he's not a defensive tackle, so that helps a little bit, but that is still a lot of high end football and honestly, with what's coming, he's going to be a busy, busy man going up against some of these quarterbacks and offense.
- 14:41Speaker 2: So let's but good for the Buffs.
- 14:43Speaker 2: Two and oh, about to be three, and oh, that game, week four, which we're talking about this quickly, later in the pod looking like a monster.
- 14:49Speaker 2: Let's get rolling.
- 14:52Speaker 2: So 2000 last year one of my bold prediction was Tyler Van Dyke to win the Heisman.
- 14:57Speaker 2: I think I was just maybe a year early on.
- 15:00Speaker 2: Tvd balled out, got the big win.
- 15:02Speaker 2: I think the final score was 48, 33 against Texas A&M.
- 15:08Speaker 2: He was rolled them, they rolled them and he was throwing dimes.
- 15:12Speaker 3: You know, it's funny that you say that, because he just trademarked Tyler.
- 15:15Speaker 3: Tyler Van Dyke, that's right I know that was not a pun.
- 15:18Speaker 2: I mean, that was an intended pun I did just by myself.
- 15:21Speaker 2: He looked really really good.
- 15:23Speaker 2: I was very impressed with Miami's offense.
- 15:25Speaker 2: That offensive line really got totally revamped from last year.
- 15:29Speaker 2: It looks a lot better.
- 15:30Speaker 2: They have some dudes on the outside and TVD was just finding his guys and just putting it on and, honestly, that was.
- 15:36Speaker 2: That was after a couple of special teams Blunders.
- 15:39Speaker 2: Granted, they got one of those back with the big kick return, but they spotted Texas A&M 10 points early in that game on special teams miscues and didn't matter.
- 15:48Speaker 2: Really really impressed with Texas A&M.
- 15:51Speaker 2: On the flip side, a&m's defense is not good.
- 16:37Speaker 3: Yeah, trouble, trouble, trouble.
- 16:38Speaker 3: I kind of want to look at this from kind of a bigger picture standpoint because you know we talked about A&M's ability to have a great year or really flop this year and you know, no one kind of knew what to expect from them.
- 16:54Speaker 3: And I wonder, you know one loss in you know, are we going to start seeing some doubt creep into the locker room?
- 17:02Speaker 3: Are the wheels going to fall off?
- 17:03Speaker 3: This is a big week and really couple weeks for them to try to bounce back.
- 17:08Speaker 3: I don't know if they can.
- 17:11Speaker 2: Yeah, I don't know.
- 17:12Speaker 2: This is.
- 17:12Speaker 2: This is everybody has, has has is eagerly watching the Patrino Jimbo Fisher thing.
- 17:18Speaker 2: I'll say this you know, on the flip side, the positive for A&M one kind of wagman looks like the guy he is.
- 17:24Speaker 2: I think they have their quarterback.
- 17:26Speaker 2: Good for him.
- 17:26Speaker 2: Evan Stewart is a stud playmaker on the outside, I think called 11 balls.
- 17:29Speaker 2: He was all over the place.
- 17:30Speaker 2: I really like that.
- 17:31Speaker 2: But I'll say it, this still looks like a Jimbo Fisher offense just asking the quarterback to do a ton.
- 17:37Speaker 2: So I'm questioning what Patrino's impact really is.
- 17:42Speaker 2: And two, when things, if things continue to go south and I think they've got Alabama here pretty soon, I know they've got Tennessee LSU the end of the year they've got some real challenges coming.
- 17:50Speaker 2: If, like you said, if the wheels fall off the bus, like what's that going to look like?
- 17:53Speaker 2: I mean, I've got my popcorn ready for that one.
- 17:55Speaker 2: It kind of seems like everyone's kind of waiting around for it to implode and the chances of it imploding are slowly getting better maybe.
- 18:03Speaker 3: Yeah, yeah, this was a very winnable game for them on paper and you know, patrino was brought in for his offensive schemes and it does look like that he hasn't been given the full reins, which is kind of that what everyone sort of thought might happen, jimbo Fisher being the control guy, that he is afraid to turn the reins over, taking a step back.
- 18:26Speaker 3: Bigger picture what is your knee jerk?
- 18:29Speaker 3: Reaction to the SEC?
- 18:30Speaker 3: Again losing out of conference, specifically to the ACC?
- 18:33Speaker 3: Yeah, I think SEC is one in six in out of conference games this year.
- 18:38Speaker 3: Yeah, I guess power fives.
- 18:40Speaker 2: Yeah, I know Tennessee, Virginia might be the lone victory that I know that I think of.
- 18:44Speaker 2: It's pretty average this year.
- 18:47Speaker 2: This is just not.
- 18:48Speaker 2: It's early.
- 18:48Speaker 2: It's early.
- 18:49Speaker 2: This is a gauntlet.
- 18:50Speaker 2: There's a lot of conference played.
- 18:51Speaker 2: I could still see A&M getting together.
- 18:54Speaker 2: I could see LSU and Tennessee both after sluggish not looking great first two games.
- 19:01Speaker 2: I could see them emerging.
- 19:01Speaker 2: We still don't know how high end Georgia is, so they might be very, very high end.
- 19:06Speaker 2: It's early.
- 19:09Speaker 2: But my knee jerk reaction is the gap is closed.
- 19:11Speaker 2: Sec has been dominant for 15 years, 20 years as the premier class of college football for a long, long time, Really, since the last time Texas was relevant in 2005, when they won the national championship against USC.
- 19:24Speaker 2: This has been an SEC sport ever since.
- 19:28Speaker 2: So my knee jerk reaction is the ACC is good, the Big Ten is good, the Pac-12, the rest, in peace, Pac-12, about to be dead is the best it's ever been.
- 19:38Speaker 2: Arguably eight teams in the top 25.
- 19:39Speaker 2: The gap is either very small between the SEC and the rest or it's non-existent, at least in 2023.
- 19:47Speaker 2: What's yours?
- 19:50Speaker 3: Yeah, the ACC is much better than I thought.
- 19:53Speaker 3: Again, still early, but North Carolina is better than I thought, miami is better than I thought.
- 19:58Speaker 3: Texas is as good as we thought they'd be.
- 20:02Speaker 3: So, yeah, I mean I kind of like to see it.
- 20:07Speaker 3: It's refreshing.
- 20:08Speaker 3: The SEC is wide open.
- 20:09Speaker 3: I don't think that any of these teams are bad.
- 20:15Speaker 3: I think it's early and we're witnessing some matchups.
- 20:22Speaker 3: It's a matchup game and, yeah, it's been fun to see Yep.
- 20:26Speaker 2: I want to shout out UNC.
- 20:27Speaker 2: I want to shout out Duke.
- 20:29Speaker 2: I think Duke is pretty darn good and they're one of the top.
- 20:32Speaker 2: They're definitely top half of the conference, maybe top third.
- 20:34Speaker 2: I'm not as bullish on UNC as you are, just because I mean, you saw that AppState game.
- 20:39Speaker 2: They easily could have lost that.
- 20:41Speaker 2: And they got away with a lucky PI at the end Very easily could have lost.
- 20:45Speaker 2: I'm not.
- 20:45Speaker 2: There's a lot of people who just want to quickly touch on the UNC app game.
- 20:49Speaker 2: There's a lot of people that pounced on the UNC stat line from last week.
- 20:52Speaker 2: They got like nine stats.
- 20:53Speaker 2: Spencer Rattler, that offensive line is a golf team.
- 20:56Speaker 2: That defense is still super questionable.
- 20:58Speaker 2: Unc has clearly upgraded, but let's pump the brakes on.
- 21:02Speaker 2: Let's pump the brakes right now on their defense.
- 21:06Speaker 2: So defense is not very, very good.
- 21:08Speaker 2: Pumping them, pumping them.
- 21:11Speaker 3: Let's keep it moving.
- 21:12Speaker 2: Let's keep it moving.
- 21:12Speaker 2: So who else we got?
- 21:13Speaker 2: Oh, I am bullish, very bullish on Sam Hartman and Notre Dame as a actual contender.
- 21:20Speaker 2: They went into NC State absolute rainstorm, kind of like we had in Virginia Tech too.
- 21:24Speaker 2: They did exactly what they were supposed to do.
- 21:27Speaker 2: They absolutely took care of business.
- 21:28Speaker 2: Did you see the lightning struck their new bajillion dollar scoreboard?
- 21:32Speaker 2: It looked like a horror movie, but it was all glitching out and whatnot.
- 21:34Speaker 2: We're gonna find out here in week four when they play Ohio State here in a second.
- 21:41Speaker 2: But I think Notre Dame is a top five team right now and I think we're gonna.
- 21:47Speaker 2: If they beat Ohio State I think we're gonna be I think there's gonna be a huge seismic shift in the college football attention world.
- 21:54Speaker 3: Yeah no, notre Dame looks legit.
- 21:56Speaker 3: I think it was you who was pumping the brakes on Sam Hartman week one saying like, oh no, he's not a high as a contender.
- 22:02Speaker 3: Look at him now.
- 22:02Speaker 2: Oh yeah, we're only three weeks in and he's like bad takes exposed, did not take long.
- 22:08Speaker 2: No, I think he is very quietly putting in, probably putting in the work and doing what he's supposed to do.
- 22:13Speaker 2: You could say he's doing Yehman's work.
- 22:16Speaker 3: Yehman's work.
- 22:17Speaker 2: Yehman's work.
- 22:17Speaker 2: I'm still not using that right.
- 22:18Speaker 3: That's a Charles.
- 22:18Speaker 2: Cowherd.
- 22:19Speaker 2: I didn't even know what that meant until this weekend.
- 22:21Speaker 2: I still don't really know.
- 22:22Speaker 2: So I was Yehman's work.
- 22:24Speaker 2: It's Yehman?
- 22:24Speaker 2: Yeah, and what does that mean?
- 22:26Speaker 2: Again, like it's like a blue collar, like a workhorse.
- 22:29Speaker 3: Yeah, you know, you're just you're going to work every day with your lunch, your Jane Tech lunch fail and you're just.
- 22:35Speaker 3: You know you're doing Yehman's work, man, okay, yehman's work it's not always appreciated, but it's the work that it takes to get it done.
- 22:41Speaker 2: Okay, sam Hartman doing Yehman's work again.
- 22:43Speaker 2: So congratulations to Sam Hartman, well done.
- 22:47Speaker 2: Nc State.
- 22:47Speaker 2: Anything on the NC State Notre Dame game.
- 22:51Speaker 3: Nope, I think we hit it.
- 22:53Speaker 2: I was often still horrible.
- 22:54Speaker 2: Cade McNamara 12 for 22 for 100, 33 yards and one pick.
- 22:57Speaker 2: The drive for 25 looks bad.
- 22:59Speaker 2: My Kirk Ferenc and Brian Ferenc's take is looking outstanding.
- 23:02Speaker 2: One or both those guys is getting fired, I'm quite sure of it.
- 23:07Speaker 3: Yeah, he fell short of his goal by just a few points, so we'll be tracking that all season.
- 23:14Speaker 3: Yep Got Western Michigan coming up, so a chance to potentially get that out of his back up.
- 23:20Speaker 2: He got to score 40, 50 in that game.
- 23:21Speaker 2: The PPP funds had another great day 28 for 30 for four or nine yards, three touchdowns, one pick for Tulsa still number two in the Vegas odds.
- 23:29Speaker 2: If you're a PPP fund holder, I know you are Another good week for my boy.
- 23:35Speaker 3: Mind our listeners what the PPP is.
- 23:37Speaker 2: Oh, that would be the polo.
- 23:38Speaker 2: That'd be PENIX for the polos for the Patreon fund.
- 23:41Speaker 2: If Michael PENIX wins the Heisman, I put a $30 bet at plus 1800 at the beginning of the season.
- 23:47Speaker 2: I'm going to buy and we're going to create Mike Blitz polos for all Patreon subscribers.
- 23:54Speaker 2: I'm going to mail to you.
- 23:55Speaker 2: They're going to be exclusive.
- 23:55Speaker 2: They're going to be awesome.
- 23:56Speaker 2: Mike's going to design them.
- 23:57Speaker 2: If Michael PENIX wins the Heisman, you get yourself a free polo of the PPP fund.
- 24:03Speaker 3: And a quick plug.
- 24:03Speaker 3: There's still time to put yourself in the huddle and be a Patreon Now.
- 24:08Speaker 3: Come join us and be a part of the PPP fund and talk some ball in the discord.
- 24:13Speaker 3: Absolutely.
- 24:16Speaker 2: Move it on.
- 24:16Speaker 2: Last thing I have about last week are just before the homers, shout out Utah and Oregon going into Texas and getting tough wins.
- 24:22Speaker 2: Both games that were easily, easily loseable.
- 24:25Speaker 2: I kind of thought Utah was going to win handily.
- 24:28Speaker 2: They did not.
- 24:28Speaker 2: Same with Oregon.
- 24:31Speaker 2: Those are Texas.
- 24:32Speaker 2: Tech and Baylor are good teams.
- 24:34Speaker 2: Beating those teams in Texas is tough.
- 24:37Speaker 2: So shout out to those two top teams, proving that they're still top teams at least it now and getting those two tough wins.
- 24:46Speaker 3: Let's move on to, let's look ahead.
- 24:48Speaker 3: Let's get a crystal ball.
- 24:50Speaker 2: We got quickly hit.
- 24:50Speaker 2: We already don't talk about Virginia Tech.
- 24:52Speaker 2: I want to talk quickly about LSU, Tennessee and UVA.
- 24:55Speaker 2: Lsu played Grand Blades.
- 24:57Speaker 2: They won by 72 to 10.
- 24:58Speaker 2: Defense offense looks exactly as opposed to if you score 72 points.
- 25:03Speaker 2: Defense looked a little suspect in the first half.
- 25:05Speaker 2: My takeaway for LSU is this is going to be.
- 25:08Speaker 2: This is a better version of the 2021 team.
- 25:10Speaker 2: It is going to be a work in progress.
- 25:12Speaker 2: We are not there yet.
- 25:14Speaker 2: This is not a national title contender.
- 25:16Speaker 2: I don't think so.
- 25:16Speaker 2: But I think this team is going to continue to get better as the season along, and if you watch 2021 LSU, it was the same thing.
- 25:23Speaker 2: So that's just that's where I am on LSU, just in 2022.
- 25:28Speaker 2: We're a work in progress.
- 25:29Speaker 3: Yeah, lsu continues to improve.
- 25:33Speaker 3: They're looking for some answers on the outside.
- 25:35Speaker 3: They're looking to bolster some wide receiver depth.
- 25:37Speaker 3: I think a game like the Grand Blades game can help do that, so you just got to build on that.
- 25:43Speaker 2: Yeah, passive defense continues to be a liability but again, hopefully we're getting more help in secondary UVA.
- 25:50Speaker 2: Heart breaking loss on a heart breaking afternoon.
- 25:52Speaker 2: They honored the this is their first home game.
- 25:54Speaker 2: They honored the victims of the fatal shooting last season and they lost a crazy game to in-state rival.
- 26:01Speaker 2: I got to have a go on rival, now JMU 3635.
- 26:04Speaker 2: Really tough way to go.
- 26:08Speaker 2: I'll stick with the positive for UVA Con Colin Calandria.
- 26:12Speaker 2: Like Calandria Calandria, I think it's good.
- 26:15Speaker 2: I think UVA has two legitimate options at quarterback the guys that can do the ball pretty well.
- 26:19Speaker 2: I think fields is a little legitimate connection.
- 26:22Speaker 2: You're starting to see some guys emerge on offense For this game.
- 26:28Speaker 2: Obviously it's tough to lose to a G5 school and especially in-state school that you really want to beat.
- 26:33Speaker 2: But I saw something, especially with you on a really, really emotional day.
- 26:37Speaker 2: But I saw some things I liked on UVA's offense, which was nice.
- 26:42Speaker 2: I really think UVA's got some options at quarterback and they're in it running back and wide out.
- 26:46Speaker 2: Offensive line is still woeful.
- 26:48Speaker 2: That's going to be a problem all season.
- 26:50Speaker 2: But you're starting to see Tony Elliott make some gains.
- 26:52Speaker 2: That's cool and I still think the defensive line is going to be the strength of the UVA team all season.
- 26:57Speaker 3: Yeah, you've got to be able to run the ball and you've got to be able to run the ball against a JMU.
- 27:01Speaker 3: But, like you said, I think they threw for almost 400 yards.
- 27:06Speaker 3: Yeah, calandria had 377 yards through the air.
- 27:10Speaker 3: That's the backup.
- 27:11Speaker 3: That's a big day and that was on 20 completions.
- 27:15Speaker 3: He went 20 for 26.
- 27:18Speaker 2: That's a huge takeaway for them.
- 27:20Speaker 2: It was also in a rainstorm.
- 27:22Speaker 2: There was a one-hour lighting delay.
- 27:23Speaker 2: So weather conditions, obviously wet balls just tough to handle.
- 27:27Speaker 2: So I just want credit him for stepping up and playing well and giving his offense, giving his team a chance to win in really really tough conditions, both emotionally and the weather.
- 27:37Speaker 2: And it's a good JMU team, a good JMU Sunbelt team.
- 27:41Speaker 2: So kudos to the Dukes on the win, Kudos to UVA for getting something to get an offense, hopefully next week.
- 27:47Speaker 2: Lastly, let's talk about your balls.
- 27:50Speaker 2: I'll let you start, because they're your team.
- 27:56Speaker 3: Yeah, not a lot to take away from this one, except the alarm bells are starting to ring a little bit.
- 28:01Speaker 3: It was a very sloppy game, slow start, there was a weather delay, they didn't even run through the tee.
- 28:09Speaker 3: I think the guys came out just a little humdrum, to be honest.
- 28:15Speaker 3: A lot of bad penalties drops, some missed throws by Joe Milton, but also some catchable balls that were just flat out dropped, so just a very dysfunctional looking offense.
- 28:28Speaker 3: On the flip side, front, seven on the defensive side of the ball still looked awesome, came away with five or six sacks again.
- 28:37Speaker 3: Double digit TFLs again, I think, leading the country in sacks and right up there in the country for TFLs.
- 28:46Speaker 3: Two games in.
- 28:47Speaker 3: I don't care who you played, that's a good stat to have and running the ball really, really well.
- 28:52Speaker 3: So, yeah, you got to do better against low level competition and balls, fans not happy about it Already kind of calling for the backup quarterback.
- 29:05Speaker 3: But I still think I still trust in the offense.
- 29:08Speaker 3: I still think it's just a couple little things, a couple of things you gotta clean up.
- 29:12Speaker 3: But, yes, a little worry, a little bit of concern, for sure, sure.
- 29:17Speaker 2: And here I have a compliment sandwich, which is where I give a compliment.
- 29:20Speaker 2: I see something bad and I give another compliment and this is kind of my summary of the Vols.
- 29:24Speaker 2: Compliment number one I really like what I see out of your running backs.
- 29:27Speaker 2: I really like small and right.
- 29:28Speaker 2: I thought those guys are good, shifty, fast dudes and I think your offensive line is pretty good.
- 29:33Speaker 2: I mean, I think they're.
- 29:34Speaker 2: I think again, I recognize it's awesome paying UVA, but I just I know what my eyes tell me and I just I like what I see out of them.
- 29:43Speaker 2: The bad I totally agree with you.
- 29:46Speaker 2: The it is getting a little concerning for Ramel Keaton, those guys out wide, and Joe Milton and getting on the same page.
- 29:54Speaker 2: Joe Milton missed some balls, those guys dropped some balls.
- 29:56Speaker 2: They are.
- 29:57Speaker 2: There's something not hasn't happened yet and the preseason is over.
- 30:02Speaker 2: I'll tell you, one week ago Tennessee was playing.
- 30:07Speaker 2: I looked at this Tennessee Florida game as the game that Tennessee could not lose.
- 30:11Speaker 2: Now I'm seeing it.
- 30:12Speaker 2: Now I'm seeing a different story.
- 30:14Speaker 2: I still, like you have compliment, have a lot of faith in the offense.
- 30:19Speaker 2: I still think Milton and Hypal are going to get together.
- 30:21Speaker 2: I still think there's plenty of talent out wide.
- 30:23Speaker 2: I think Bru McCoy, squirrel White, I think these guys are playmakers in danger with the ball.
- 30:26Speaker 2: But their margin for error is now over.
- 30:30Speaker 2: You know they had 120 minutes to kind of figure it out.
- 30:32Speaker 2: They haven't really done it yet.
- 30:33Speaker 2: So now they're going to a game in the swamp.
- 30:36Speaker 2: I think the spread has dropped down to six and a half, so money's coming in on Florida, which I mean.
- 30:41Speaker 2: Understandably.
- 30:42Speaker 2: You and I both know for 20 years of watching football that the swamp is a at night is a tough place to play and Florida is a better opponent than UVA or Austin Pay.
- 30:53Speaker 2: So that is a.
- 30:57Speaker 2: It's go time Now.
- 30:58Speaker 2: It's time to put it together and we'll see that.
- 30:59Speaker 2: So we'll talk about it in a second.
- 31:01Speaker 2: The other comp, the last thing I want to end with is I think Tennessee's pass rush, pass rush, might be absolutely filthy.
- 31:06Speaker 2: They are again a record competition, but they are absolutely getting after.
- 31:11Speaker 2: They are flying around.
- 31:12Speaker 2: That leading is a very good sack.
- 31:13Speaker 2: Lsu has one sack in two games.
- 31:15Speaker 2: I would much rather have 11 sacks through two games, like Tennessee has.
- 31:18Speaker 2: I think I really like Tennessee's front seven and I think that's going to be an absolute strength.
- 31:24Speaker 2: This team has you going to SEC play if you can get after the ball and just from offenses I think it's really going to help the balls a lot, so really happy with that.
- 31:33Speaker 2: Like the run game, it's the middle part, the meat, the what makes the engine hum, which is Milton, and those receivers got to get it together.
- 31:41Speaker 2: So I think this is hopefully this is the week they do that.
- 31:43Speaker 3: Yeah, and this is not last year's team, and I think maybe they're still just kind of finding their identity and what's going to work for them.
- 31:50Speaker 3: And yeah, like you said, they don't have a lot of time to figure it out.
- 31:54Speaker 3: We'll see.
- 31:55Speaker 2: Yep.
- 31:55Speaker 2: So let's go ahead and just jump right into next week's games.
- 31:58Speaker 2: So, honestly, this is like the worst week of college football.
- 32:02Speaker 2: Stop saying that.
- 32:04Speaker 2: But I will say, if it makes you feel any better, week four.
- 32:09Speaker 2: The following week is maybe the best week of college football really quickly.
- 32:14Speaker 2: Utah, ucla both ranked Florida, clemson, ole Miss, alabama, colorado, oregon, utsa, plucky, tennessee, and then the headline event, which is Ohio State, notre Dame, iowa, Penn State.
- 32:27Speaker 2: There are like seven, seven awesome games week four.
- 32:32Speaker 2: So if you need to like do something, like spend your Saturday doing something else, like go to the pumpkin patch, go to the pumpkin patch, go to the Ransounds Festival, this is the week to do it.
- 32:41Speaker 2: Because the next week you're going to want to install yourself on the couch yeah, go ahead and get that equity with the wife.
- 32:46Speaker 2: Yeah, do what you got to do, because week four is going to be absolutely insane.
- 32:51Speaker 2: But Mike and I are comfortable junkies.
- 32:53Speaker 2: We're watching every week anyway.
- 32:55Speaker 2: Let's go ahead and start with UT.
- 32:56Speaker 2: I want to see Tennessee, like I said, going to the swamp.
- 33:00Speaker 2: They're playing Saturday night and this is actually probably this is the game of the week and the most intrigue is pretty, pretty thin slate.
- 33:05Speaker 2: I want to see Tennessee grind out Florida.
- 33:09Speaker 2: I want to see Tennessee run the ball like nuts.
- 33:12Speaker 2: I think they're going to be.
- 33:13Speaker 2: I think I think they actually have the guys to push Florida around and I want to see them do that in the swamp.
- 33:18Speaker 2: The best way to.
- 33:19Speaker 2: If you have a jittery quarterback and you've got receivers that are still kind of missing and let's face it, in the swamp it's going to be million degrees, can be seven o'clock.
- 33:26Speaker 2: It can be fired up.
- 33:27Speaker 2: It's going to be hostile.
- 33:28Speaker 2: If you're trying to give your quarterback and your receivers time to gel, the best thing to do that is a healthy run game.
- 33:33Speaker 2: So I want to see Tennessee run the ball like bonkers on Florida Saturday.
- 33:39Speaker 3: Yeah, I think that's definitely a recipe for success.
- 33:41Speaker 3: I think, getting after Mertz, who is, again, you know, he's a middle of the road quarterback, he's capable, he's capable.
- 33:49Speaker 3: But you know, I think they've got one weapon on the outside, florida with Parasol, who's a legit waterceaver.
- 33:56Speaker 3: He's put up good numbers week over week and, yeah, I don't, you know, florida couldn't run the ball against Utah.
- 34:03Speaker 3: Will they be able to run the ball against Tennessee?
- 34:06Speaker 3: Yeah, tennessee has shown a very capable run game and historically this game is one on the ground.
- 34:14Speaker 3: Whoever has the most rushing yards?
- 34:15Speaker 3: At the end of the day you look up at the scoreboard something like 20 out of the last 21 times and that's who's won the game.
- 34:23Speaker 3: Tennessee also hasn't won in the swamp in like 20 years.
- 34:27Speaker 3: It's been forever.
- 34:28Speaker 2: Okay, big monkey on the back, got it.
- 34:31Speaker 3: So yeah, it's that's.
- 34:32Speaker 3: That means something to the fans.
- 34:34Speaker 3: It doesn't mean anything to the current players, but that is a real thing.
- 34:38Speaker 3: It's hard to win in the swamp.
- 34:40Speaker 3: Yep, I'm really interested in the game plan here because if I'm Florida, I'm crowd in the box.
- 34:45Speaker 3: I'm making Joe Milton beat me over the top.
- 34:48Speaker 3: Oh yeah, absolutely War.
- 34:49Speaker 3: But what you?
- 34:50Speaker 3: That's kind of his game.
- 34:52Speaker 3: He struggled in the intermediate passes.
- 34:54Speaker 3: He struggled with some of those timing routes.
- 34:56Speaker 3: The timing's been off.
- 34:57Speaker 3: If you just let him on cork one and he connects on one or two of those early, it's going to be game over.
- 35:03Speaker 3: It's game over because you got to back off and then it will be ground and pounds for the walls.
- 35:08Speaker 2: Yeah, I like Tennessee to play really tight defense.
- 35:11Speaker 2: I mean, honestly, I would make the same case for them.
- 35:13Speaker 2: I think Tennessee is going to make Graham Erts try and beat them, and I don't know that he's going to do it that well.
- 35:19Speaker 2: Obviously, milton can be really dangerous legs.
- 35:21Speaker 2: I mean, if you get out of Florida it's over as Ellis and they're stacking the box and blitzing a lot.
- 35:25Speaker 2: You know a quick breakdown, a quick screen, quick, quick bubble screen, something like that beat the blitz.
- 35:31Speaker 2: Like I could easily see Tennessee deflating the swamp quickly with two early scores.
- 35:37Speaker 2: If they start slow and tennis and Florida gets a quick score and seven, nothing or 10, nothing, it could be.
- 35:44Speaker 2: It could be a tough fight.
- 35:44Speaker 2: I think a big, big key.
- 35:47Speaker 2: For I totally agree with you, tennessee scoring early, getting out ahead, will go a long way.
- 35:51Speaker 2: So that's, I think that's.
- 35:53Speaker 2: I think that's good.
- 35:53Speaker 2: Anything else on the Tennessee Florida game you want to touch on?
- 35:57Speaker 3: I think these Florida fans are really ready to punt on Billy Napier and they are going to come into the game fired up.
- 36:04Speaker 3: It's a rivalry game.
- 36:05Speaker 3: It's a night game.
- 36:05Speaker 3: Florida's backs against the wall and you're going to get a lot of effort from the fans and a lot of effort from the players.
- 36:10Speaker 3: You don't want to get into a dogfight.
- 36:12Speaker 3: Take the air out of the stadium, drain the swamp early, get up on them.
- 36:16Speaker 3: I could see Tennessee doing something a little little bit tricky, a little gimmicky early to try to get some juice.
- 36:23Speaker 3: I could also see D Williams popping one off in the punt return game.
- 36:26Speaker 3: I will not be surprised if Tennessee scores a special teams touchdown.
- 36:30Speaker 3: But yeah, I like the balls to win, I like the balls to cover, but it's going to be a tough one.
- 36:36Speaker 2: Yeah, I like Tennessee to muck it up and win.
- 36:38Speaker 2: I don't like I do not.
- 36:40Speaker 2: This spread moved.
- 36:41Speaker 2: It was.
- 36:42Speaker 2: It was minus eight minus nine early.
- 36:43Speaker 2: So a little bit of money has come in on Florida.
- 36:46Speaker 2: I mean getting getting more than a touchdown.
- 36:48Speaker 2: I think right now it's minus six and a half.
- 36:50Speaker 2: I like Tennessee to win.
- 36:51Speaker 2: I think it's going to be a close game.
- 36:53Speaker 2: I think the conditions are going to be harsh.
- 36:55Speaker 2: I think it's going to.
- 36:56Speaker 2: I think it's going to be ugly, I think I think it's going to grind out.
- 36:58Speaker 2: I think Tennessee this is going to be a moment where Tennessee can prove they can win in multiple ways, not just running, hurry up and score like that, but also playing a tough gritty.
- 37:06Speaker 2: We are bigger and stronger and better than you defense and, honestly, in the trenches, I think they are in the running game, I think they are the front seven.
- 37:13Speaker 2: I think they have the edge.
- 37:14Speaker 2: So I like to see Tennessee win this game through that.
- 37:17Speaker 2: Don't.
- 37:19Speaker 2: Let's put, let's put aside the idea that Joe Milton is heading hooker because he's not.
- 37:23Speaker 2: He might get there, he's not, he might get there, but he's not there yet.
- 37:26Speaker 2: So for now, let's see Tennessee flex other muscles.
- 37:28Speaker 2: I like Tennessee to win a close game like that.
- 37:31Speaker 2: Let's go to other.
- 37:34Speaker 2: My team, lsu, is going at Ole Miss.
- 37:36Speaker 2: Game is at noon, so it's going to be a pretty state, mississippi state.
- 37:40Speaker 2: Lsu is a nine and a half point favorite.
- 37:42Speaker 2: Mississippi state came with the overtime win against Arizona.
- 37:46Speaker 2: Arizona easily could have lost in overtime.
- 37:50Speaker 2: There's a questionable stepping out of bounds call.
- 37:52Speaker 2: Had that, they would have lost that game.
- 37:55Speaker 2: Mississippi state has got a lot of seniors.
- 37:56Speaker 2: I just don't think they're very good.
- 37:58Speaker 2: They are in the midst of Zach Arnett is changing the team.
- 38:00Speaker 2: They are running the ball 63% of the time, which is a huge amount of rushing attempts for a Mississippi State team.
- 38:08Speaker 2: Mike Leach rest in peace was the air raid thrower Pajillion time.
- 38:12Speaker 2: So they are in the midst of a transitioning offense.
- 38:15Speaker 2: I like LSU's chances against the run.
- 38:18Speaker 2: I really do.
- 38:19Speaker 2: If they're going to try and pound the ball at us, I think we're going to be ready.
- 38:22Speaker 2: Lsu's weakness so far this season is clear.
- 38:25Speaker 2: They're secondary and if this was a Mike Leach run throw the ball 80 times I'd be a lot more nervous.
- 38:29Speaker 2: So I look for I look for LSU to play good defense.
- 38:33Speaker 2: We are really strong in front seven as well and hopefully J Daniels, who had a good game against Grambling, kind of carry that over this week.
- 38:41Speaker 3: Yeah, this Mississippi State team has not looked good.
- 38:44Speaker 3: They've looked much worse, quite frankly, than I thought they would.
- 38:48Speaker 3: But they survived an overtime, an ugly overtime game Win to win Arizona and they should have dominated that game.
- 38:57Speaker 3: Arizona turned the ball over four or five times and then Mississippi State still took him to overtime.
- 39:05Speaker 3: Will Rogers should not be throwing the ball only 17 times in a game like that.
- 39:09Speaker 3: So we, yeah, like that's your strength, and so what I'm looking to see is if they tweak the game plan a little bit, try to attack LSU secondary, that's their best bet to win.
- 39:20Speaker 3: It's always tough.
- 39:21Speaker 3: This game is a little bit like the Tennessee Florida game we just talked about, because Mississippi State tough place to play.
- 39:27Speaker 3: They're always going to be.
- 39:29Speaker 3: Yeah, they've got the dumb cow bells.
- 39:31Speaker 3: It's loud as crap in there.
- 39:33Speaker 3: It is a hornet's nest and, yeah, I do think that they kind of drag LSU down a little bit.
- 39:40Speaker 3: But LSU obviously has the athletes to run away with it.
- 39:44Speaker 3: If Mississippi State turns the ball over, gives them a few plays early, I still like LSU to win, but I do think that this is kind of a close, tough fight to the end.
- 39:57Speaker 2: I'm only having these games at noon.
- 39:59Speaker 2: I mean, obviously that's going to bring some energy down, make it a little bit less hostile.
- 40:03Speaker 2: Anytime you play an SEC road game, just in general, those are just hard to win full stop.
- 40:08Speaker 2: I don't care who you're playing or who you are going on the road.
- 40:11Speaker 2: The SEC is tough.
- 40:12Speaker 2: So when you go in these places at night it's just that much more hostile, there's that much more juice.
- 40:16Speaker 2: So the fact that it's a noon game, which is 11am local time, I'm pretty sure, is central, so I'm feeling pretty good about I like that a lot.
- 40:23Speaker 3: I kind of like Jayden Daniels to have a day here.
- 40:25Speaker 3: Yeah, he's going to, he has to.
- 40:28Speaker 2: This is a moment.
- 40:29Speaker 2: This is kind of a week for Jayden Daniels and Joe Mille respectively, Like if they are really going to elevate their teams to division champions and have a chance to beat the Alabama's in Georgia, the world and kind of see that happen.
- 40:38Speaker 2: This is probably one of those weeks where they both need to have a day, so I'm looking for that, obviously as well.
- 40:47Speaker 2: Let's kick over to our friends here in the Commonwealth.
- 40:50Speaker 2: Virginia Tech is plus seven at Rutgers, as we all know, they put.
- 40:56Speaker 2: They pulled Grant Wells out of the game.
- 40:58Speaker 2: It's Kyron Jones time.
- 40:59Speaker 2: I'm looking for drones to do it.
- 41:00Speaker 2: I think we already talked about it a little bit quick.
- 41:03Speaker 2: But give me the seven points, give me Virginia Tech on the road.
- 41:06Speaker 2: I think Kyron Jones is going to bring something that Rutgers hasn't seen before.
- 41:10Speaker 2: So I like that a lot.
- 41:11Speaker 3: I just think Rutgers is so bad and they're not going to convince me otherwise.
- 41:16Speaker 3: I don't care that they're two and oh, I like the Hokies.
- 41:19Speaker 3: They, you know they put up a good fight in a weird, weird day.
- 41:23Speaker 3: You know, they showed a lot of resolve coming back against Purdue and I do think they're building on something and yeah, I just, I kind of like them to win this one outright.
- 41:36Speaker 2: Nice, nice, I can certainly see it.
- 41:38Speaker 2: It is Rutgers, it's not.
- 41:39Speaker 2: This is not exactly a, not exactly a behemoth.
- 41:42Speaker 2: Uva plus 15 at Maryland College Park.
- 41:45Speaker 2: You know this is a tough.
- 41:47Speaker 2: This is going to be a tough game.
- 41:48Speaker 2: Maryland has a really good offense the younger tongue of my low is still there.
- 41:53Speaker 2: They've got playmakers out wide.
- 41:54Speaker 2: They're going to score their points.
- 41:56Speaker 2: But they're also super vulnerable on defense, which is unfortunately been a staple of kind of Mike's lock.
- 42:00Speaker 2: Mike loxley led Maryland teams.
- 42:03Speaker 2: My point for this game I don't know.
- 42:06Speaker 2: I don't know if UVA can win, but I do think UVA can still grow.
- 42:09Speaker 2: I do.
- 42:10Speaker 2: I do think UVA has a chance to get some, to score some points, to see some more guys develop on offense.
- 42:15Speaker 2: I have not heard the.
- 42:17Speaker 2: What's the latest on musket.
- 42:18Speaker 2: I'm not sure who's starting, but honestly, at this point I think you're feeling pretty good about either.
- 42:22Speaker 2: Both guys have one game under their, one starter under their belt, so don't think you get a huge edge.
- 42:27Speaker 2: Either way, I'm looking for UVA to challenge Maryland's very suspect and very vulnerable defense and score some points.
- 42:35Speaker 2: And if this game does get into a track meet and Maryland is as bad as defense we want, who knows, I don't know, this could be, this is not.
- 42:41Speaker 2: I think UVA has got a puncher's chance.
- 42:44Speaker 3: I do think they have a puncher's chance.
- 42:45Speaker 3: Maryland is a dangerous offensive team.
- 42:48Speaker 3: Yep, yeah, tagger Viloa is an athlete that you know UVA is really going to struggle with.
- 42:55Speaker 3: I think Maryland wins this game.
- 42:58Speaker 3: But I think you're right, uva continues to build on their passing game especially.
- 43:02Speaker 3: I'd like to see them improve the run game.
- 43:06Speaker 3: I'd like to see them lean on that a little bit more.
- 43:08Speaker 3: But I do kind of like a track meet in this one.
- 43:10Speaker 3: I like.
- 43:11Speaker 3: I like a high scoring affair with Maryland getting the edge.
- 43:16Speaker 2: Yeah, this also just keeping it over for those of you watching on this game is on FS1 on Fridays.
- 43:20Speaker 2: This will be a Friday night special.
- 43:21Speaker 2: I think Paris Jones is a good back.
- 43:23Speaker 2: I think UVA has options backfield.
- 43:24Speaker 2: It's just a matter of question, which, to me, the same story all seasons what can that offensive line do for them?
- 43:28Speaker 2: Maryland does not have a superimposing front seven, so this might be a game where UVA's offensive line can gel a little bit.
- 43:35Speaker 2: Can't open up the run game.
- 43:36Speaker 2: They have some capable backs let's look at, let's look for UVA to do some, to do some offense.
- 43:41Speaker 2: That's all I, oh the only other thing I have.
- 43:44Speaker 2: We're going to skip right over it Again.
- 43:48Speaker 2: Usually we would be talking about all the games this week.
- 43:50Speaker 2: The only game that I'm particularly interested in this week is UW at Michigan State.
- 43:54Speaker 2: One, obviously, the PPP one, so I'm keeping close eye on, and two, the as anybody who knows Washington College football the Mel Tucker situation.
- 44:02Speaker 2: I'm not going to get all into it because you are probably already know, but they are in the midst of some potential firing, firing, coaching off the field scandal.
- 44:11Speaker 2: It is a whole thing.
- 44:13Speaker 2: It is a massive distraction and it is rapidly unfolding as we're recording this podcast, the news is still coming out, so it's a possible speculate, but I'm very interested to see what UW is going to do.
- 44:26Speaker 2: This game is at East Lansing.
- 44:27Speaker 2: What is East Lansing going to look like?
- 44:29Speaker 2: What is the vibe there?
- 44:31Speaker 2: Who's going to be staying on the sideline?
- 44:33Speaker 3: Yeah, how can you focus on a football game right now?
- 44:35Speaker 3: And, by the way, mel Tucker is still in deny, deny, deny mode, so there's a lot that we're going to see play out.
- 44:41Speaker 3: What did you say this?
- 44:43Speaker 3: What's the spread on this?
- 44:44Speaker 3: What it means to you?
- 44:44Speaker 3: It's minus 16.
- 44:47Speaker 2: So UW is getting two and a half touchdowns on the run.
- 44:48Speaker 3: Okay, give me UW all day, every day.
- 44:51Speaker 3: Take that to the bank.
- 44:53Speaker 2: You think it's just going to be a big bloodbath?
- 44:54Speaker 2: Just cover, cover, cover.
- 44:55Speaker 2: Okay, I for some reason have this weird fear in my mind that Michigan State is going to rally around the weird situation, rare challenges, but I it's, it's you just don't know.
- 45:05Speaker 2: In these situations it's just interesting.
- 45:08Speaker 2: That game is at five o'clock, so I'm interested in that.
- 45:11Speaker 2: Yeah, any other game this week that we haven't talked about.
- 45:14Speaker 2: We talked about the four homers and obviously UW, Michigan State, any game that you want to speak to.
- 45:19Speaker 3: No, I'm ready to get out of here.
- 45:20Speaker 3: Good stuff.
- 45:22Speaker 2: All right, folks.
