- 0:04Everybody's talking about what's going to
- 0:06happen with the World Fitness Project next
- 0:08year.
- 0:10So, so are we.
- 0:22I love the chase and the hunt and
- 0:23I set the pace when I'm running.
- 0:25I always take what I want and I
- 0:26always give it one hundred.
- 0:28Don't need a bank, no I'm funded.
- 0:29Play the game like it's nothing.
- 0:31I'm always thankful for something.
- 0:32Don't take for granted, stay humble.
- 0:34Now wake up!
- 0:35It's time to look at the enemy.
- 0:37Look in the mirror if he is no
- 0:39friend to me.
- 0:40It's not working out,
- 0:42maybe it's the chemistry.
- 0:43It's time to break up slowly.
- 0:59You're muted.
- 1:01Are you kidding me?
- 1:04You're live now, but it didn't play the...
- 1:06All right.
- 1:10I'm good now.
- 1:11Yeah.
- 1:11All right.
- 1:13Man, this Rodecaster,
- 1:14I got to figure out what's going on
- 1:17with it.
- 1:17I did not hear it at all.
- 1:19And then you went to talk.
- 1:23What the heck?
- 1:24I can't even pull up stuff.
- 1:25Corey is in the house.
- 1:27Yes.
- 1:27What's up, guys?
- 1:30It's birthday week,
- 1:31so we've got to plan out like tomorrow's
- 1:33big adventure of hot sauce.
- 1:37Just so everybody knows.
- 1:40So for my birthday,
- 1:41I'm going to go back and do some
- 1:43hot sauce eating.
- 1:45I used to get this subscription from
- 1:47heatness.com.
- 1:49It's a box that comes with three hot
- 1:57sauces.
- 1:59that were used on the Hot Ones YouTube
- 2:03show.
- 2:06They don't tell you how hot each one
- 2:08is, so I've randomly picked two boxes.
- 2:12It comes with a card as to what
- 2:15the hot sauce is made out of.
- 2:17I'm going to take a picture of this
- 2:19to give to Corey and tomorrow while we're
- 2:21talking about stuff.
- 2:24And what makes this fun is you get
- 2:25to shoot questions at me that I have
- 2:27to answer while eating the hot sauce.
- 2:31So we have two boxes randomly selected
- 2:34from my collection.
- 2:37didn't even like that's the first time
- 2:38this box has been open is what you
- 2:40just saw and I have a second box
- 2:42right over here and I will cook up
- 2:47some chicken tomorrow morning and I will
- 2:49dab it on the top and we will
- 2:50eat it and answer questions and talk about
- 2:54CrossFit yes Frida it is the Russian
- 2:56roulette of sauces exactly so I have no
- 3:00idea what I'm getting into we are going
- 3:02to just have fun with it it's going
- 3:03to be fantastic
- 3:06yeah if you have not seen i did
- 3:08a full hot ones ten sauce challenge for
- 3:12my birthday a few years ago it is
- 3:14all still out there on youtube um my
- 3:18ass was lit up pretty bad and i
- 3:21think i drank a whole half gallon of
- 3:23almond milk um a full beer and uh
- 3:27water and some other stuff just basically
- 3:32whatever you could find
- 3:33I was trying everything, peanut butter.
- 3:36I tried everything to get the heat out
- 3:38of my mouth.
- 3:40So, yeah, fun stuff.
- 3:43But we got Jody.
- 3:44We got Frida.
- 3:45We got Judy.
- 3:46We've got Joseph.
- 3:47We've got Larry.
- 3:48We've got Meredith.
- 3:50We've got Trent Olive.
- 3:52Amanda.
- 3:53Amanda is able to join us for a
- 3:55live episode.
- 3:58So there's a lot to talk about.
- 3:59We're going to pop around a bunch of
- 4:02stuff.
- 4:02We're going to get all chaotic today
- 4:03because that's what happens when Corey's
- 4:05here.
- 4:09Man, that sounds like a cement mixer.
- 4:12Just a random amount of shit that you
- 4:14drank to try to.
- 4:15Oh, yeah, it was crazy.
- 4:19So I don't know if you guys have
- 4:20seen,
- 4:20but when someone retires and decides to
- 4:23come back,
- 4:26You get excited, right?
- 4:28Like Philip Rivers, forty-four years old,
- 4:30comes back and plays in the NFL.
- 4:33You know,
- 4:34poor thing doesn't win a single game while
- 4:36he comes back,
- 4:37but he shows that he could still play
- 4:39a little bit in the NFL,
- 4:40which is crazy.
- 4:42And CrossFit has its own version happening
- 4:45right now.
- 4:48Craig Ritchie is competing in a functional
- 4:52fitness competition.
- 4:57I know everybody is excited to see Craig
- 5:01Ritchie back in functional fitness.
- 5:05He's back,
- 5:06but he's still refusing to say CrossFit.
- 5:10I was on the edge of my seat.
- 5:12Matter of fact,
- 5:13me and the wife and the kids went
- 5:16out of town over the weekend.
- 5:17That's all we could talk about was, man,
- 5:20I wonder if Craig Ritchie is ever going
- 5:21to do CrossFit again.
- 5:23And sure enough, here we are.
- 5:28he's functional fitness.
- 5:29I'm assuming that's the same as CrossFit
- 5:35without the licensing fee.
- 5:37Um, Meredith, uh,
- 5:38what has he been up to anyways?
- 5:39I lost track.
- 5:40Yeah.
- 5:41I mean, me too,
- 5:42but this popped up in my algorithm for
- 5:44some reason.
- 5:46Um, I couldn't believe it.
- 5:48So yeah, he's all,
- 5:49look how excited he is.
- 5:50He seems excited.
- 5:52He's talking to the legends and, uh,
- 5:57Yeah, getting back into CrossFit.
- 6:00Good for him.
- 6:02Good for him.
- 6:03I knew you'd be excited.
- 6:05Oh, look,
- 6:05if there's anybody who's a Craig Ritchie
- 6:08fan, it's probably me.
- 6:11Or not.
- 6:11I mean, whatever.
- 6:12Same thing.
- 6:13Yeah.
- 6:14I mean, I'll be honest.
- 6:15When he first hit the scene and he
- 6:17was, like,
- 6:18hanging out with Tia and he was hanging
- 6:20out with Justin and he was hanging out
- 6:22with Matt and doing all this, like,
- 6:24I really enjoyed his stuff.
- 6:26When it became about just training videos
- 6:28of him, like I totally lost interest.
- 6:34It was a complete,
- 6:36like we were on this path and then
- 6:39he just made like a nine degree turn
- 6:41that nobody else could follow because
- 6:44nobody,
- 6:45like they cared that you were talking to
- 6:47actual CrossFit athletes.
- 6:50Nobody cared when you just started doing
- 6:53whatever it was,
- 6:54the training that you were doing.
- 6:55Like, sorry, dude.
- 6:57You're not a games athlete.
- 6:58People weren't interested in that.
- 6:59It's just not a thing.
- 7:01Or you're not a coach.
- 7:02You're not trying to sell programming.
- 7:03You're not trying to do like,
- 7:04that's not what your channel ever was.
- 7:06So it was very hard for people to
- 7:08follow.
- 7:09And then he really lost me when he
- 7:10started like begging people for, well,
- 7:12why aren't you people sending me money?
- 7:16Really?
- 7:16Well,
- 7:17the sad story that his company was going
- 7:19under because they got screwed on some
- 7:21stuff.
- 7:22And then the next week you see him
- 7:24front row at the Vegas Grand Prix F-One
- 7:28Series,
- 7:30hanging out in the pit row with the
- 7:32VIP tickets.
- 7:34Yeah, I lost a little bit of my...
- 7:38The luster wore off at that point,
- 7:42for sure.
- 7:42Trish says he's been doing PEDs.
- 7:47Okay.
- 7:48Yeah.
- 7:50Didn't he aim for weightlifting comp for a
- 7:51while?
- 7:52Yeah.
- 7:53And then I think, yeah,
- 7:55I think that's kind of what his focus
- 7:56has been.
- 7:57I honestly have not watched maybe one
- 8:00episode in the last couple of years.
- 8:05That's one more than I have.
- 8:08So we have a winner in the fantasy
- 8:13football league.
- 8:13Oh,
- 8:16As per usual,
- 8:18Jamie Latimer won the fantasy football
- 8:20league.
- 8:21So I have to send her the trophy,
- 8:22which is a ring.
- 8:26It looks like a championship ring.
- 8:28It is a championship ring.
- 8:30Twenty twenty five fantasy football
- 8:32championship ring.
- 8:34So she gets another trophy.
- 8:37She's never going to let that go.
- 8:42She is the most competitive person I've
- 8:44ever met.
- 8:48She's never going to let that go.
- 8:49She had the best record in the regular
- 8:50season.
- 8:51She dominated the playoffs.
- 8:55But the most impressive playoff was Andrew
- 8:58Sten came into the playoffs in last place
- 9:02and won enough games in the playoffs to
- 9:04get to ninth out of twelve teams.
- 9:06Good job, Sten.
- 9:08Yeah, that's quite the improvement.
- 9:12It's like winning the lottery or finding a
- 9:15lottery ticket a day after it's expired.
- 9:17Yeah,
- 9:18that's pretty accurate at that point.
- 9:23It's kind of like what the Saints are
- 9:24doing right now.
- 9:24It's on a four-game winning streak to
- 9:28improve their record to six and ten.
- 9:31Good job, boys.
- 9:34Hottest team in the NFL when it doesn't
- 9:35count.
- 9:36When it doesn't matter, a hundred percent.
- 9:39Corey looks like he's about to come break
- 9:41my legs for not paying off my rental
- 9:42furniture from his outlet store.
- 9:45I have people that do that, Trish.
- 9:47I'm not coming to it myself.
- 9:49That would imply me actually getting my
- 9:51hands dirty for something like that.
- 9:53That's not how this works.
- 9:56Also, pay your bill,
- 9:58and I won't have to come break your
- 9:59legs or send people to you.
- 10:01Just saying.
- 10:03So one more...
- 10:05Andrew Sten in the house,
- 10:07my player finally showed up to play.
- 10:10Just like the Saints.
- 10:11After he was eliminated from playoff
- 10:13contention,
- 10:14his players decided to pick up the pace.
- 10:21So it's weird.
- 10:24The Saints actually had an opportunity,
- 10:26because the NFC South is so terrible,
- 10:28to still get a playoff spot with a
- 10:32six and ten record.
- 10:34That was still in the cards.
- 10:37This whole season has been insane.
- 10:39It's been absolutely insane.
- 10:43There's absolutely no favorite in the
- 10:44playoffs this year.
- 10:46If you are a gambling person,
- 10:47this is not the playoffs to bet who's
- 10:49going to win the Super Bowl because if
- 10:52you know you're a better person than me.
- 10:56The Colts called Philip Rivers who had
- 11:01been retired for
- 11:04What, five years?
- 11:06Yeah.
- 11:08He was just about to be nominated for
- 11:10a Hall of Fame for being out for
- 11:12five years.
- 11:13Ten kids.
- 11:16What, three grandkids?
- 11:17Someone along those lines?
- 11:18And they were like, hey, man,
- 11:19I know you haven't played in five years,
- 11:21but would you like to come be the
- 11:22quarterback for the Colts?
- 11:22And he's like, absolutely.
- 11:24And he threw a couple touchdowns.
- 11:27And, like,
- 11:27he's playing with the same fire,
- 11:29and it looks like he never –
- 11:32really retired, you know,
- 11:33as far from that standpoint or whatnot.
- 11:35It looks like he quit doing sit-ups.
- 11:38He definitely could probably use a little
- 11:40bit of fitness work, but, you know,
- 11:41I don't judge.
- 11:43Good on him for still being out there.
- 11:45But what I'm getting at is that if
- 11:46that doesn't tell you everything you need
- 11:47to know about the NFL this year,
- 11:50is that out of all the people they
- 11:52could have possibly called,
- 11:53they were like,
- 11:54you know who we ought to call?
- 11:56Phillip Rivers.
- 11:59And they were like, well,
- 11:59he's about to get
- 12:01like be on the ballot for hall of
- 12:02fame.
- 12:03And they're like, no.
- 12:07All right.
- 12:07Yeah.
- 12:08He has more kids than a Minnesota daycare.
- 12:09There you go.
- 12:12That is a fact.
- 12:14Louisiana's governor is the best LSU coach
- 12:17of all time.
- 12:17All right.
- 12:23People who say shit like that have
- 12:24absolutely no idea how the state run
- 12:27system works down here.
- 12:28State school system.
- 12:29So I'll leave that alone.
- 12:36One more thing before we get into some
- 12:38WFP talk.
- 12:38And then I know you have a good
- 12:39story to tell.
- 12:40I did.
- 12:41Let me get to that too.
- 12:42But one thing I found,
- 12:44and this is just snarky Scott day.
- 12:46So we started with Craig Ritchie.
- 12:50The, the really big Trish had a nerve.
- 12:54Yeah, I think so.
- 12:59Sorry.
- 13:00Morning Chaka posted.
- 13:02Their favorite moments of.
- 13:06Twenty twenty five.
- 13:08Did you did you see this?
- 13:10I did not.
- 13:11I don't follow him anymore.
- 13:13This.
- 13:15This is the prime reason why the morning
- 13:18chalk up is now a weekly newsletter.
- 13:22Now.
- 13:23So these are their favorite moments.
- 13:25There's only three.
- 13:26So it's not going to take me long.
- 13:27Good.
- 13:29Annika Greer punches her ticket to the
- 13:30games.
- 13:33No bigger Anika Greer fan than me.
- 13:35I have been rooting for this girl for
- 13:38six years.
- 13:40Didn't even make my top ten of favorite
- 13:43moments of the year.
- 13:45But I'm happy for her.
- 13:47I was glad for her.
- 13:49But when you qualify for the games in
- 13:51an online semi that you didn't even get
- 13:54to watch...
- 13:56Okay.
- 13:58Favorite moment of the year.
- 13:59Number two,
- 14:01the Men's Rogue Invitational Podium Race.
- 14:05That was a pretty good race.
- 14:09Sure.
- 14:10Adler pretty much had it sewn up all
- 14:13day Sunday, but okay.
- 14:16I'll give you that.
- 14:18And then Justin Medeiros wins the Dukich
- 14:23MVP Award at Waterpalooza SoCal.
- 14:27Okay.
- 14:29Those are the three favorite moments from
- 14:31twenty twenty five.
- 14:35Not Lucy Campbell going toe to toe with
- 14:37Tia.
- 14:38Not Jason Hopper winning the CrossFit
- 14:40Games.
- 14:43Not the whole Waterpalooza SoCal event
- 14:46where Dallin Pepper gave him so much of
- 14:48himself that he gave himself rhabdo.
- 14:52None of that stuff.
- 14:55this is the three you pick again.
- 15:01Okay.
- 15:02It's just another reason why I had,
- 15:04I will, I,
- 15:05this is the first time I've seen that.
- 15:07And it's going to be the only time
- 15:08I've seen that because I don't follow
- 15:11them.
- 15:15And that's why it's determined.
- 15:16Scott, apparently it is cut up,
- 15:20slips of paper, throw them in a hat,
- 15:22shake it around and just pick out three.
- 15:24Let me ask you this.
- 15:25Who's we,
- 15:26as far as the morning chocolate is
- 15:27concerned, like who wrote that?
- 15:30I don't know.
- 15:32I don't know.
- 15:33When I was with the morning chalk up,
- 15:34there was this whole thing about,
- 15:37you didn't put your name on anything
- 15:38because we are a company.
- 15:40We are one.
- 15:41Okay.
- 15:42It's not about individual glory.
- 15:44It's about.
- 15:47That seems kind of silly, but all right.
- 15:49Sure.
- 15:51Every newspaper in the world has a byline
- 15:53with who wrote the article.
- 15:55Because that's why you have a writer.
- 15:57Right.
- 15:58Yeah.
- 15:59That is Jonathan.
- 16:04I know you don't care.
- 16:06I don't care.
- 16:07That's the point.
- 16:07I'm just being snarky Scott today.
- 16:10Yeah.
- 16:10And I'm just a week.
- 16:11It's my birthday week and I can,
- 16:13I can be snarky Scott for a day.
- 16:16Today's my day for snarkiness.
- 16:18I mean, good on them,
- 16:19but that's their three favorite moments.
- 16:21I feel like they were written by Annika,
- 16:24Justin, and Jeff Adler.
- 16:27Yeah.
- 16:31Maybe that's just me.
- 16:31Oh, that's good.
- 16:35Kenneth Labs is probably Presley.
- 16:37I don't think Presley works for them
- 16:38anymore.
- 16:38I think she is full HWPO.
- 16:46anyway um so anyway that's just me being
- 16:48snarky i know you don't care i don't
- 16:50care i just found it funny that those
- 16:53are the three things that you pick it's
- 16:57been a wild year in crossfit uh two
- 17:01out of three canadian probably was scott
- 17:03who wrote it well that would make sense
- 17:06with my canadian bias um but i would
- 17:09have picked better stuff than
- 17:12I mean,
- 17:12freaking Lucy Campbell beating Laura
- 17:14Horvat at the end of Wadapalooza when
- 17:18they're both on the muscle-ups and Lucy
- 17:20out-dueled her head-to-head.
- 17:22That was freaking awesome.
- 17:26Yeah, Jonathan, I think you're right.
- 17:27Presley's full HWPO.
- 17:34Okay, so.
- 17:37Let's go.
- 17:38You went to Mississippi.
- 17:40I did.
- 17:41And so we're going to do story time
- 17:44with Corey.
- 17:46So my wife decided a couple weeks ago
- 17:49that, you know, between Thanksgiving,
- 17:53Legends, Christmas, the whole nine yards,
- 17:55she wanted to get away one last time
- 17:57before we started the year over.
- 17:59And we got back into the normal swing
- 18:00of things.
- 18:01So we just went to Biloxi for the
- 18:02weekend,
- 18:02which is like a two and a half
- 18:03hour drive away.
- 18:05And I said, OK,
- 18:06we're going to do that.
- 18:07I'm going to drop in somewhere.
- 18:08And I went and dropped in at Bandit
- 18:10CrossFit.
- 18:11And I met a listener, Mr. Bruce,
- 18:16who has actually hung out with Jamie and
- 18:19Jim Peeper.
- 18:20Whenever he was up there,
- 18:21we went and dropped into a gym.
- 18:22He said he spent a couple of days
- 18:24with them and they tried to kill him.
- 18:26And I said, I can understand that.
- 18:29I said,
- 18:29I've met Jim people before and I met
- 18:32Jamie, you know,
- 18:33on a couple of different occasions I've
- 18:34seen Jim and, um, they're both ridiculous.
- 18:37So good on you for even, but, uh,
- 18:40it was cool.
- 18:41Uh, I, you know,
- 18:44dropped in and introduced myself to a
- 18:45couple of people with their coaches and
- 18:47whatnot.
- 18:47It was kind of hanging out and he
- 18:49came walk up and he said, Corey.
- 18:51And I said, uh, yeah, he said, uh,
- 18:57He said, hey, man, Bruce.
- 18:58He said, you know, big fan of Clydesdale.
- 19:01And I was like, oh, awesome, man.
- 19:02Thank you.
- 19:03That's pretty damn cool.
- 19:05He said, yeah,
- 19:06I don't really watch your show.
- 19:07And I said,
- 19:11I don't really get to make the lunchtime
- 19:13shows.
- 19:13I'm usually in the chat for a Sunday
- 19:16night CrossFit talk with Jamie and
- 19:19Carolyn.
- 19:20And I was like, oh, no, man,
- 19:21that's awesome.
- 19:23But even the fact that he knew who
- 19:24I was was kind of interesting in and
- 19:27of itself.
- 19:28But good people down there.
- 19:29Highly recommend it if you are in the
- 19:30area.
- 19:31Bandit CrossFit.
- 19:34And you say bandit like Smokey?
- 19:35Bandit.
- 19:36As in Smokey and the Bandit.
- 19:38Correct.
- 19:40Correct.
- 19:41I grew up in Ocean Springs,
- 19:42east of Biloxi.
- 19:43It sucks now.
- 19:46Well, they have a Bucky's there now, Mark,
- 19:51that we stopped at.
- 19:52Because I am...
- 19:54I like to talk about it too much
- 19:56mentioning it,
- 19:56but I am contractually obligated,
- 19:58obligated to stop at every Bucky's that I
- 19:59come across and, uh,
- 20:01go in there and get some snacks.
- 20:03And, uh,
- 20:05if it's the morning time before ten thirty
- 20:07breakfast, brisket tacos.
- 20:10So are the bomb.
- 20:13It's absolutely ridiculous.
- 20:15Um, and it's the.
- 20:20Amanda, Corey,
- 20:21I was in Lafayette this weekend.
- 20:22It was seventy seven degrees,
- 20:23vastly different than Maryland,
- 20:25where I feel like it was seven this
- 20:28morning.
- 20:29It is like I know you're in the
- 20:31south.
- 20:32We had wind that shook my house all
- 20:35day yesterday.
- 20:36So if it makes you feel any better,
- 20:38we were sitting last night.
- 20:41I got back from the gym and we
- 20:42were just sitting.
- 20:45Hanging out and.
- 20:48The wind,
- 20:48because there's a front passing through
- 20:50and it was loud enough to not shake
- 20:52the house, but we could hear it.
- 20:54Like I'm looking at Jennifer going,
- 20:55she said, what is that?
- 20:56It's the damn wind that's blowing.
- 20:58Now it's forty three degrees here today.
- 21:03I'm sure it's probably a little bit cooler
- 21:05where you are.
- 21:07We're like fifteen.
- 21:10No, thank you.
- 21:11No, thank you.
- 21:12No, thank you.
- 21:12No, thank you.
- 21:13I don't know.
- 21:13I don't want anything to do with fifteen
- 21:15degrees.
- 21:17uh, wants to know where,
- 21:18who you got your contract through.
- 21:19Uh,
- 21:20he would like to ask for the same
- 21:21contract.
- 21:21I'll put it out.
- 21:22I'll put them, I'll put them on you.
- 21:24I'll put them on you.
- 21:25But, uh, no,
- 21:26the last thing I'll say about that is
- 21:27so dropped in over there.
- 21:28Great people.
- 21:29Um, they had to,
- 21:30they were doing their twelve days of
- 21:31Christmas workout, which was fun.
- 21:34Um, good, uh, good stuff.
- 21:35So I had to go do that with
- 21:36those people.
- 21:39We went and
- 21:41just did what my wife wanted to do
- 21:43which is basically what they actually what
- 21:44she said was to be bored in a
- 21:46different place uh than home so we brought
- 21:49the kids to uh one of the big
- 21:51arcades and then go play and stuff like
- 21:53that when i dinner saturday night we get
- 21:55home sunday about twelve thirty and you
- 21:59know this um all of us who are
- 22:01forty plus forty five plus i know this
- 22:04if you get a car for two and
- 22:05a half hours
- 22:07When you get out, it sucks.
- 22:09Like everything's stiff, painful.
- 22:12Like, you know,
- 22:12you got to move around and stuff like
- 22:14that.
- 22:16So we got home at twelve thirty or
- 22:18so,
- 22:19unpacked everything and kind of putting
- 22:23everything away and whatnot.
- 22:25And Jennifer said,
- 22:26I think I'm going to take a nap.
- 22:27And I was like,
- 22:27that sounds like a solid idea.
- 22:29I am also going to take a nap.
- 22:30And she looked at me and she said,
- 22:32no, you're not.
- 22:35You're going to go work out.
- 22:37My wife kicked me out of the house
- 22:39to go train Sunday afternoon.
- 22:43That's a good wife.
- 22:48If she ever gets tired of me,
- 22:49I'm going to tell her to go take
- 22:49a nap because she's stuck with me for
- 22:52the rest of forever.
- 22:54I was telling Brandon that actually Sunday
- 22:59evening because from her coming to Legends
- 23:04and seeing
- 23:05like the whole leading up to this,
- 23:06she was like, I'll be like, you know,
- 23:08I'm going to compete.
- 23:08I want to be in the final heat
- 23:10or whatever.
- 23:11She's like, no, you're going there.
- 23:12Try to get on the podium.
- 23:13And I was trying to explain to her
- 23:16the best way I could,
- 23:16that there's going to be actual games
- 23:18athletes.
- 23:19They're like younger people that are
- 23:21coming, just coming into the age group.
- 23:23Like if I'm in that top, then that's,
- 23:25that's a win for me.
- 23:26Right.
- 23:27She didn't, she isn't,
- 23:29I don't say nothing to understand,
- 23:30but like,
- 23:31She sees me at the gym and knows
- 23:34what I do there,
- 23:35knows the kind of work I'm putting in.
- 23:36And so at one point Sunday before we
- 23:39came back, she said.
- 23:42So everybody was moving as fast as you
- 23:44do.
- 23:45And I went, yeah.
- 23:48It's kind of it's kind of what was
- 23:50happening and going on.
- 23:52And so I think.
- 23:54To her credit,
- 23:57she didn't poo-poo any of that anymore.
- 23:59She was just kind of more like,
- 24:00holy smokes,
- 24:03for you to be able to do what
- 24:04you do,
- 24:05this is why you do what you do.
- 24:07The sacrifices that I've put up go through
- 24:10the training and all that other stuff.
- 24:11So for her to say, no,
- 24:14you're not taking a nap.
- 24:15I know we just had a two and
- 24:16a half hour car ride back from your
- 24:17stiff as shit,
- 24:18but you need to go to the gym
- 24:19and go work out.
- 24:21That's what I did.
- 24:22So mad props to my wife.
- 24:25So Joseph and Amanda were having a
- 24:27conversation of where in Maryland Amanda
- 24:29lives.
- 24:30She said technically the Eastern Shore,
- 24:32but Stevensonville, Kent Island.
- 24:34So I had to make a visit to
- 24:40the Eastern Shore of Maryland from
- 24:42Columbus.
- 24:44I was on a plane so small that
- 24:47my coworker and I were told we flew
- 24:49to Philly and then we flew a small
- 24:51plane from Philly to the Eastern shore.
- 24:54And my coworker and I were told you
- 24:56have to sit on opposite sides of the
- 24:57plane.
- 24:58So we stay balanced.
- 25:03That's how,
- 25:04that's how small the plane was.
- 25:06We flew to,
- 25:08Excuse me, Mr. Schweitzer,
- 25:09I'm going to need you to get on
- 25:10that side,
- 25:11and I'm going to need you to be
- 25:12on that side.
- 25:13My coworker was like six, four,
- 25:16two-eighty basketball player.
- 25:19Yeah.
- 25:20That's hilarious.
- 25:22That's hilarious.
- 25:23The only time I've ever been on one
- 25:24that small,
- 25:26it was taking one from Dallas to Houston,
- 25:29and then I was going to fly from
- 25:30Houston back to home.
- 25:31And from Dallas to Houston,
- 25:32we flew through a thunderstorm, right?
- 25:35And it's a little...
- 25:36Two seats on this side,
- 25:37two seats on that side type deal.
- 25:39And I was on the aisle seat and
- 25:40there was a lady sitting next to me.
- 25:42We're flying through a thunderstorm, dude.
- 25:43Like I've never seen anything like it.
- 25:45You can see the lightning jumping from
- 25:48cloud to cloud.
- 25:49So I'm leaning over her to look out
- 25:52the window.
- 25:52And at one point she said,
- 25:54do you want to switch spots?
- 25:56And I was like, no, I'm good.
- 25:57I just,
- 25:57I'm as close as I want to get.
- 25:59I just want to be able to see.
- 26:02Yeah, it was not a great experience.
- 26:07Tallahassee didn't have jet service when I
- 26:09lived there.
- 26:10So I've flown on a lot of small
- 26:12planes.
- 26:13One to New Orleans where I flew over
- 26:15a hurricane.
- 26:16That was insanity.
- 26:18But yeah, that time where they actually,
- 26:22because it was only one seat on each
- 26:24side and only four rows.
- 26:27they were like yeah yeah jim and scott
- 26:29you got to go on opposite sides of
- 26:30the plane so we can stay balanced and
- 26:33i was like holy hell it was almost
- 26:36like that it was almost a rubber band
- 26:37propelled plane they probably they had
- 26:39somebody go outside and grab the propeller
- 26:41and be like contact and then smash it
- 26:44down
- 26:48Yeah, there was no, like,
- 26:50we had to go out onto the tarmac
- 26:51and then up the steps and in.
- 26:53It was not a, yeah,
- 26:55there was no jet way out to the
- 26:57plane.
- 26:58And when we landed in Maryland, literally,
- 27:01it looked like you pulled up to a
- 27:03Sunoco station.
- 27:05It looked like an airport.
- 27:06It was the damnedest thing I've ever seen
- 27:10in my life.
- 27:12There's a dude out there with a little,
- 27:13like, engineer hat on.
- 27:15with some dirty overalls.
- 27:17We had a rag,
- 27:18just wiping some stuff down.
- 27:20You boys getting off this plane or y'all
- 27:22catching it again?
- 27:23I got to put some fuel in it,
- 27:25check the air and the tires.
- 27:26Holy smokes, dude.
- 27:28I'm going to fill her up for the
- 27:31return trip.
- 27:34Check the oil while you're at your
- 27:35conference.
- 27:39That's fantastic.
- 27:41All right, man,
- 27:41let's get back into some fitness talk.
- 27:44I didn't get to see the full episode
- 27:46of Boys Interrupted,
- 27:46but Dents posted this and I thought it
- 27:49was a great talking point.
- 27:51So Jenny posted this on her site.
- 27:53It's from Boys Interrupted.
- 27:54I'm going to share my screen.
- 27:57And it's the Boys Interrupted minus Hopper
- 28:01talking about the World Fitness Project
- 28:03for next season.
- 28:07It's unknown that there's athletes that
- 28:11are considering if they're going to do the
- 28:13project next year or not.
- 28:15Everyone's asking,
- 28:15what are you guys doing this year?
- 28:16I'm going to do it as long as
- 28:17it does interfere with me trying to win
- 28:19the CrossFit Games.
- 28:20Yeah, we need the schedule,
- 28:22which we should be getting soon.
- 28:25Yeah,
- 28:27I'd like to see the schedule and how
- 28:28many I've heard different numbers of how
- 28:31many events all those things matter a lot.
- 28:34I think next year there's obviously I
- 28:36don't think it's unknown.
- 28:38So
- 28:40what this is clearly stating is there is
- 28:44a priority on the CrossFit game season
- 28:47over the WFP.
- 28:49The WFP will be done only if it
- 28:52fits within the calendar to make sense for
- 28:55these athletes.
- 28:58That James said it perfectly.
- 29:00I will compete as long as it doesn't
- 29:03interfere with me trying to win the
- 29:04CrossFit games.
- 29:06And he has a legitimate shot to actually
- 29:08win the CrossFit Games.
- 29:09It's not like if I was staying.
- 29:13All of these three have a legit shot.
- 29:15Yeah.
- 29:16All of them.
- 29:18And the guy who wasn't there because he
- 29:19was not feeling well or whatever the case
- 29:22may be.
- 29:22Just won the CrossFit Games.
- 29:24Just won the CrossFit Games.
- 29:25So yeah, one hundred percent.
- 29:28Yes.
- 29:31Jenny,
- 29:31I'm surprised they haven't released the
- 29:32schedule yet.
- 29:34I'm wondering if they are in scramble mode
- 29:37knowing that they are now the lower tier.
- 29:41It is obvious.
- 29:42The high-end athletes are saying they are
- 29:45the lower tier, and it affects them.
- 29:51Now they're probably scrambling to make
- 29:52sure that they fit within the season so
- 29:56that they can keep as many of them
- 29:57as possible.
- 29:59Well, here's the thing.
- 30:00The season's been out.
- 30:02we know what the season's good crossfit
- 30:04season yeah but the wfp have to find
- 30:08venues they have to find the places to
- 30:11go and be able to schedule them to
- 30:13be able to release their own schedule and
- 30:15it's probably what's holding it up because
- 30:17will i think
- 30:20Yeah, Jenny says it here.
- 30:21Will said earlier this year they would
- 30:23release next year's way before anyone
- 30:25else, but yet here we are.
- 30:26And I think it's because they have come
- 30:28finally to the realization that they are a
- 30:32lower tier competition season than the
- 30:34CrossFit Games.
- 30:35And now they're going to have to find
- 30:36a way to fit and they have to
- 30:38go get new locations, new venues,
- 30:42and get contracts with all of that to
- 30:45set up their schedule.
- 30:47And all the logistics that's involved with
- 30:49that, right?
- 30:50getting equipment there, volunteers,
- 30:54paid volunteers, whatever the case may be,
- 30:56medical staff, all of that shit.
- 30:59It all needs to be in place.
- 31:05Freda said they probably thought the
- 31:06CrossFit would dally as in prior years.
- 31:11Here's my thing.
- 31:12If I'm WFP and I see what's happening
- 31:15on the CrossFit side,
- 31:15because you know they're paying attention.
- 31:17They can't not.
- 31:19As soon as I see that, oh,
- 31:21they just released their entire schedule,
- 31:23I'm jumping on that right there.
- 31:25Okay, well,
- 31:26here's where their schedule is.
- 31:27So let's go, you know,
- 31:30if we're going to have overlap,
- 31:31if we're not going to have overlap.
- 31:32Like you're on it at that point.
- 31:34You have to be.
- 31:36I would think so anyway if you want
- 31:38to continue doing what you're doing and
- 31:39have what we just saw is a potential
- 31:43one, two,
- 31:43three at the CrossFit Games on the men's
- 31:45side, right?
- 31:45Those three dudes.
- 31:47not counting Jason, who wasn't there,
- 31:49right?
- 31:50Those are three of them,
- 31:51and they all just said, oh,
- 31:53I'm not going if it's not,
- 31:55if it's going to interfere with me trying
- 31:57to win the games.
- 31:58So why would you not have that as
- 32:01your number one priority to schedule it to
- 32:04where, well, I want these guys here,
- 32:07if at all possible.
- 32:09And the same thing on the women's side,
- 32:10because I'm sure the women are saying the
- 32:13same thing that the guys are,
- 32:14like the ones who want to win the
- 32:15games.
- 32:17are saying the same things that the guys
- 32:19are.
- 32:19I want to be the fittest on earth.
- 32:21I will do this other thing because it
- 32:23puts money in my pocket and I had
- 32:24a good time doing it.
- 32:26I want to be the fittest on earth,
- 32:29period.
- 32:30Right.
- 32:32I think Jonathan's making this argument
- 32:35that it's just a week after their finals
- 32:37or a couple weeks after their finals.
- 32:40If you're securing venues,
- 32:43you want to do it at least a
- 32:44year ahead of time.
- 32:45The longer out you can schedule it,
- 32:47the cheaper it gets for you.
- 32:50So I'm assuming that they had a plan.
- 32:53And if you listen to the podcast that
- 32:56had been leaked,
- 32:56that they were trying to get venues and
- 32:59they talked to Torian,
- 33:01they talked to some of these other
- 33:02locations.
- 33:03They've been working on this schedule for
- 33:05a long time.
- 33:07So they could have released this at any
- 33:09point.
- 33:10I truly think they looked in the mirror
- 33:11and said, oh shit,
- 33:14we're going to lose all of the top
- 33:16end athletes if we don't make this fit
- 33:18better into next season's schedule.
- 33:21and had to scrap all their plans and
- 33:24now have to find new venues,
- 33:25new locations to make it work.
- 33:28And like I said,
- 33:28I think they should do it more in
- 33:30Europe, in Australia,
- 33:31than they do it in the US.
- 33:33It is abundantly clear that the crowds
- 33:36were much more receptive for what happened
- 33:38in Europe than they were in the US.
- 33:40And use those places to build your brand.
- 33:45Because without that,
- 33:48you're going to go nowhere.
- 33:51And we're going to talk about the Hiller
- 33:52video that came out yesterday that
- 33:55demonstrates that really, really well.
- 34:00Which,
- 34:04the one he put on the Hiller fit?
- 34:07I believe so.
- 34:08He interviews a gym in Indianapolis who is
- 34:12a CrossFit affiliate.
- 34:13They are a WFP affiliate,
- 34:16and they're a High Rocks affiliate.
- 34:17Oh, I didn't see that one.
- 34:20And they actually talk about what each one
- 34:22brings to the table.
- 34:23Oh, I need to watch that.
- 34:26I didn't see that at all.
- 34:27Yeah.
- 34:28Jenny says they were the ones saying
- 34:29CrossFit should release it sooner.
- 34:31And now they are not.
- 34:32It's the hypocrisy for me.
- 34:34And earlier she said,
- 34:35Will shouldn't make statements he can't
- 34:36follow through on.
- 34:39And I think it's,
- 34:40For Will,
- 34:41and not to make excuses for him,
- 34:43it's a moving target.
- 34:44They thought they were going to come in
- 34:47and be a shift in the system,
- 34:52and they're not.
- 34:54And they had to come to a realization.
- 34:57They had to look at themselves and tell
- 35:00themselves the truth,
- 35:01which they have not done for the majority
- 35:03of last year, and say,
- 35:05we are not going to be able to
- 35:06compete with the CrossFit Games.
- 35:08We have to now establish ourselves as
- 35:10something different.
- 35:15So...
- 35:21Jonathan, okay,
- 35:23how long did it take CrossFit to release
- 35:25a schedule early?
- 35:27But Jonathan,
- 35:28the WFP came in saying they were going
- 35:30to be better than CrossFit.
- 35:33They had learned all the mistakes that
- 35:34CrossFit had made,
- 35:36and they were going to correct those,
- 35:38and they were going to be better than
- 35:39CrossFit.
- 35:40You don't come in bombastic making those
- 35:43statements and then fall short on
- 35:46everything you promised.
- 35:48Or the athletes.
- 35:51For the athletes, by the athletes.
- 35:56And that's the issue.
- 35:57They should have learned from what they
- 35:59saw going on.
- 36:00They know what the complaints are.
- 36:02They know what people were upset about.
- 36:05Then make all these promises that you
- 36:07don't fulfill on anything.
- 36:14The reason why I say for the athletes,
- 36:15by the athletes is that
- 36:17you're, you're coming across as like,
- 36:20you're speaking for the athletes at that
- 36:21point, right?
- 36:23Oh, we're for the athletes.
- 36:24We're by the athletes.
- 36:25We're going to do things better because we
- 36:27know,
- 36:27because we've been the athletes and seen
- 36:29what's happening and going on.
- 36:31And in it,
- 36:32you just can't follow through on that
- 36:34because whatever reason you just don't,
- 36:38because it's,
- 36:38you have these pie in the sky ideas
- 36:42for some of the stuff,
- 36:43some of the stuff they did do better.
- 36:45Um,
- 36:45I mean, we've gone over that.
- 36:47Some of the stuff we did like,
- 36:48some of the stuff we didn't like,
- 36:49some of the stuff that they said they
- 36:50did,
- 36:50and a lot of the stuff I should
- 36:51say they said they did,
- 36:52they didn't actually do.
- 36:55And what Jenny just said right there.
- 36:58Hold on.
- 36:58Vindicate said,
- 36:59do you think they ever had a plan?
- 37:01I don't know.
- 37:02I don't know if they came out swinging
- 37:04like they did,
- 37:06but who knows if they actually did have
- 37:08a plan.
- 37:12then jenny says they underestimated
- 37:14everything it takes to run a successful
- 37:15season that is the truest thing anybody
- 37:19has ever said about if you look at
- 37:21the whole of their season of their plan
- 37:23whatever it was from when they said oh
- 37:26we're going to offer affiliates okay what
- 37:30does that look like uh we don't know
- 37:31tell us what you want that's not a
- 37:33plan
- 37:35right and what Jenny just said they just
- 37:38underestimated what it actually takes
- 37:41because you've never run a season before
- 37:43you've been in a season before and you've
- 37:45been part of it but there's a way
- 37:48way different from just being an athlete
- 37:52showing up competing being that part of
- 37:55that process as opposed to being the you
- 37:58know the Jason Ansley's of the world who
- 38:00was putting on this entire show that's
- 38:02going on the Dave Castro's of the world
- 38:04the
- 38:05you know, name somebody,
- 38:09it's two completely different things.
- 38:11So you can't just look at it and
- 38:13go, oh, we can do that.
- 38:16I got all this money.
- 38:18Surely with all this money,
- 38:19I can do all these things that CrossFit
- 38:22can do because we have all this money.
- 38:25Well, even though the sport is still very,
- 38:28very new and very,
- 38:29very much in its infancy,
- 38:31they've still been doing it for twenty
- 38:32years.
- 38:35Holly, the crack researcher that she is,
- 38:37gives us a quote from the great Michael
- 38:40Scott.
- 38:42Sometimes I'll start a sentence and I
- 38:44don't know where it's going.
- 38:45I just hope to find it somewhere along
- 38:46the way, like an improv conversation.
- 38:49An improvisation.
- 38:50That's why she's the best in the business.
- 38:59I love Holly.
- 39:01She does the correct research for us to
- 39:04bring us those types of things.
- 39:10Terry,
- 39:10Will is tremendously inexperienced at
- 39:12running competition,
- 39:13and he is surrounded by people with even
- 39:14less experience.
- 39:15He does have people like Jason Ainsley
- 39:17around him that are experienced in this,
- 39:21not at the grand level that they promised
- 39:25it to be, though.
- 39:29I've competed in one of Jason's events,
- 39:32and it was fantastic.
- 39:34I got to say it.
- 39:34That was one event.
- 39:37Jenny,
- 39:38they started this emotionally and not
- 39:39logically from the start.
- 39:41They set themselves up for failure,
- 39:42and now they have to figure out how
- 39:44to pivot.
- 39:46I have been preaching that myself for
- 39:48months,
- 39:48saying that they built this on a
- 39:50foundation of a tragedy.
- 39:54And that is not a concrete foundation to
- 39:57start a business of any kind on.
- 40:03Will's biggest mistake was not offering
- 40:05Wilson Pack half a million dollars to run
- 40:07the season.
- 40:08Amen, sister.
- 40:11I sat and talked...
- 40:15And I shared this, what, a week ago?
- 40:18That Wilson has moved into my
- 40:20neighborhood.
- 40:20He lives fifteen minutes up the street
- 40:22from me now.
- 40:23Wilson.
- 40:24And we had coffee.
- 40:26And I learned as much in that hour
- 40:28and a half conversation about competitions
- 40:32that I have learned in six years of
- 40:35media.
- 40:36Like,
- 40:36that man forgot more than I have ever
- 40:40known.
- 40:46Judy Reed, I give them props for trying.
- 40:47It's the way they went about it.
- 40:49And that kind of leads me to the
- 40:51other point.
- 40:51And that is that Hiller put out a
- 40:54video where he interviewed a gym owner in
- 40:56Indianapolis who is a World Fitness
- 40:58Project affiliate and a CrossFit
- 41:00affiliate,
- 41:02in addition to being a High Rocks
- 41:03affiliate as well.
- 41:04And his attitude was,
- 41:06I wanted to see what it was.
- 41:07And the only way to truly know is
- 41:09to join up and see what they were
- 41:11going to offer.
- 41:13And then I could talk to my people
- 41:14about what that meant and whether it made
- 41:16sense for us or not.
- 41:18But there's no way to truly know unless
- 41:20I dive in and do it.
- 41:21Right.
- 41:22And Hiller asked him flat out,
- 41:24what have you received from World Fitness
- 41:28Project as part of you being an affiliate?
- 41:31And he said, absolutely nothing.
- 41:36Absolutely nothing.
- 41:40And if that's your answer,
- 41:43That is the biggest,
- 41:45that was the fatal flaw of the World
- 41:47Fitness Project.
- 41:49You had people that didn't like what you
- 41:51were doing and then you had a group
- 41:53of people going, well, let's wait and see.
- 41:56And then you tried to come up with
- 41:58your own affiliate program and you lost
- 42:01everybody who was half-ass interested.
- 42:06And not only did you do that,
- 42:07you did it for a decision that you're
- 42:09not even following through on.
- 42:12You're giving those affiliate owners
- 42:14absolutely nothing.
- 42:16You could give a shit less about your
- 42:18affiliate program.
- 42:23And it's obvious.
- 42:24And that was your fatal flaw.
- 42:25There may have been other ones to come,
- 42:28but the minute you decided to create an
- 42:31affiliate program, you alienated.
- 42:35Seventy five percent of the CrossFit
- 42:37space.
- 42:41The minute you did it.
- 42:44And for what?
- 42:45You're not even doing anything with it.
- 42:48All you did was blow up your plan
- 42:50if you had a plan.
- 42:56I don't know.
- 43:04Sounds like another smear campaign.
- 43:06Careful, Scott.
- 43:09What Frida said right there.
- 43:12It's always better to start small and
- 43:14focused.
- 43:16Do one thing and do it well.
- 43:21When you do one thing and do it
- 43:23well,
- 43:23it's what Greg's been preaching forever.
- 43:25Focus on this is what we do.
- 43:29do that well and let everything else fall
- 43:32into place and just keep doing it well
- 43:34and just keep doing it well.
- 43:36And it's going to grow organically.
- 43:37That's how that, that's how that,
- 43:39that's how it works.
- 43:40Instead of I got a billion dollars and
- 43:43I'm going to use as much of it
- 43:45as I can and hope that it's okay.
- 43:52Uh,
- 43:52apparently it is smear and snarky Tuesday
- 43:55here on the Clydesdale.
- 43:59Um,
- 44:00Jenny says they really should pivot to all
- 44:02European.
- 44:03Like Ortega says, he's heard rumors of,
- 44:05I've been saying that for a couple of
- 44:06weeks.
- 44:06It's the only way they're going to
- 44:08survive.
- 44:09They have shown that the only audience
- 44:11they can draw in is in Europe and
- 44:14maybe Australia,
- 44:15maybe some of these other places around
- 44:17the world.
- 44:18They can try to do stuff at most,
- 44:20at most you should have one us stop
- 44:22on the tour.
- 44:25just to kind of appease some of the
- 44:27higher-end athletes so they don't have to
- 44:29travel overseas for everything.
- 44:32Correct.
- 44:33And maybe if you take it down to
- 44:35just one,
- 44:36maybe you get a little bit more attendance
- 44:39with just one stop.
- 44:41Who knows?
- 44:42But Europe showed up on Saturday and
- 44:44Sunday for the finals.
- 44:47And that's not... No, not at all.
- 44:52Not at all.
- 44:52And like the boys were saying, the...
- 44:55the the sunday especially like the
- 44:58atmosphere was electric like people were
- 44:59on their feet uh pepper was talking about
- 45:03it this morning saying like they were they
- 45:05were doing chants and they were at
- 45:07noisemakers like he said it felt like
- 45:09going to a european uh soccer match he
- 45:13said and that was awesome but you're not
- 45:16going to get that here it's just not
- 45:18the same it's just it's just not the
- 45:20same type of crowd
- 45:21And like we said the other day,
- 45:22there's already so many big competitions
- 45:26here in the States.
- 45:29Instead of adding one,
- 45:31which would have been okay,
- 45:32you decided to add two.
- 45:33Well,
- 45:33now you're splitting the population
- 45:35because people who are going to attend one
- 45:37are probably not going to attend two if
- 45:40it's the same thing with the same people,
- 45:42just different workouts.
- 45:43It's probably not going to happen.
- 45:48Frida says a smear snarky Tuesday is the
- 45:50best way to start off.
- 45:51Start with the week off.
- 45:57Train all of,
- 45:58I think Corey answered a lot of this.
- 46:00Why do you think people didn't show up
- 46:01in the U S locations, marketing,
- 46:03lack of interest?
- 46:04I think they pissed off a lot of
- 46:06people here in the U S and that
- 46:07was one thing too.
- 46:09We have a lot of options here in
- 46:11the CrossFit space to be able to go
- 46:13see the athletes and,
- 46:18And they didn't do any marketing.
- 46:20Their marketing this year was pathetic.
- 46:23No.
- 46:25And Hiller's pointed that out.
- 46:27I've talked about it a lot,
- 46:28that they had all these open gaps where
- 46:30CrossFit was kind of at rest,
- 46:32that they could have been just flooding
- 46:33the market with their stuff,
- 46:35and they didn't do any of it.
- 46:38And then they released the workouts on a
- 46:40holiday.
- 46:41We talked about that.
- 46:43Podcasts,
- 46:45YouTube videos don't do anything on
- 46:48Thanksgiving, Christmas.
- 46:50They just don't.
- 46:54They never have, and they're not going to.
- 46:57Amanda,
- 46:58we are already saturated with high-level
- 46:59comps all year long in the U.S.,
- 47:02And you have a lot of like these
- 47:03mid majors where there's like really good
- 47:06action to go watch live or,
- 47:08and with community events that you can
- 47:10participate in as well.
- 47:11And people are choosing to do that as
- 47:13opposed to like,
- 47:14just go sit and watch people.
- 47:16Right.
- 47:17They can be a part of something rather
- 47:19than.
- 47:22What Travis is saying right there.
- 47:27They were, he's not wrong.
- 47:29I can go to water Palooza,
- 47:31which is in Miami,
- 47:33which is already at South beach,
- 47:35which is already a travel destination.
- 47:38If there wasn't a high level competition
- 47:40going on,
- 47:41or I could go to where was the
- 47:43first one at Indiana, Indianapolis,
- 47:46Indianapolis,
- 47:48and not even like kind of a suburb.
- 47:50Yeah.
- 47:53I'm probably going to go to Miami.
- 47:56Yeah.
- 47:56Or you can go to Huntington beach,
- 47:57California and watch what a blues of
- 47:59SoCal.
- 48:01You know, yeah.
- 48:03I beat you to it, Jenny.
- 48:09Jake's been talking about the affiliate
- 48:11effect in that.
- 48:12Like did anyone genuine,
- 48:15genuinely think they ever would, whatever.
- 48:18Did anyone ever genuinely think anything
- 48:20they ever did would actually make a dent
- 48:24on regular affiliates?
- 48:25No.
- 48:26Not at all.
- 48:28So they did it just to piss people
- 48:29off.
- 48:29The only outcome was to anger people.
- 48:33And you got a handful of affiliates to
- 48:35try you out.
- 48:37So that worked.
- 48:39They got the pissing people off part down.
- 48:41They got that figured right out.
- 48:44They got that.
- 48:45That's not even a question.
- 48:47He also says,
- 48:48I also don't think that many affiliate
- 48:49members give much thought toward comps
- 48:51these days.
- 48:52We need to engage affiliate owners again
- 48:54before we begin to think about starting
- 48:55these new comps on the scene.
- 48:59He's not wrong.
- 49:00It depends on the gym.
- 49:04It depends on the gym.
- 49:05There are...
- 49:09There are competitive gyms that think
- 49:10about it all the time and there are
- 49:11things that... Yes.
- 49:13I'm just trying to think of my gym.
- 49:14You know who Rich Froning is.
- 49:16Right.
- 49:17There's probably seven or eight people,
- 49:21maybe ten total at my gym who sign
- 49:24up for competitions regularly and
- 49:26therefore they know who people are.
- 49:30I'm trying to read Jake's messages.
- 49:33I speak gobbledygook.
- 49:37But there are gyms that I know of
- 49:40that aren't far from me that like they
- 49:42have a lot more competitive athletes.
- 49:44Some of that's location.
- 49:45Some of that's what you got going on
- 49:48and whatnot.
- 49:48But he ain't wrong.
- 49:52He's very, very not wrong.
- 49:54Yeah.
- 49:57Affiliate owners drive engagement and the
- 50:00open is the start of it all.
- 50:02I completely agree.
- 50:03I've told you guys my first gym that
- 50:05I belonged to up until twenty twenty one.
- 50:08The open was the biggest deal of the
- 50:10year.
- 50:12And some of those people didn't even know
- 50:13there was a competition after the Open.
- 50:16It was just we divided our gym up
- 50:18into teams.
- 50:20And the gym only did the Open workout
- 50:23on Fridays and Saturdays.
- 50:24And we roped it off.
- 50:25We had a place for the crowd to
- 50:28sit and cheer.
- 50:30And it was like an event every year.
- 50:34And we had a hundred and eighty people
- 50:37sign up for the Open.
- 50:39And we had like two hundred and fifty
- 50:40members.
- 50:41So that like, it was insanity.
- 50:47Now it is a lot of work on
- 50:48the affiliate owner and all the coaches to
- 50:51come in and run all that and get
- 50:52judges and all of that stuff.
- 50:55But it was pure insanity.
- 50:57And I,
- 50:57and I loved every minute of it.
- 51:01As a coach and a competitive athlete,
- 51:03I will say it's a lot,
- 51:04but I enjoy the shit out of it
- 51:06when there's a lot of people there doing
- 51:09it.
- 51:10And I think that like people leading up
- 51:12to it, you know,
- 51:14you try to hype it up.
- 51:15I know at our gym,
- 51:16people are kind of blase about it most
- 51:18of the time,
- 51:19but once they actually get in it and
- 51:22the heat start, did you see the people,
- 51:26the competitive people who everybody,
- 51:29if you were in a CrossFit gym,
- 51:30I do not care what you actually say.
- 51:32You are a competitive human being because
- 51:34you were looking at your score and you
- 51:36were trying to do well and you were
- 51:38putting yourself in a position where,
- 51:41you're leaving everything out on the floor
- 51:42at least once or twice a week.
- 51:44If you are a CrossFit athlete in a
- 51:47gym, you are a competitive person.
- 51:49When you get people to actually show up...
- 51:53could be my wife's competitive person ever
- 51:57she will stop in the middle of a
- 51:58workout to go give a high five um
- 52:01cheer someone on she could care less where
- 52:04she finishes on the leaderboard but that
- 52:06is the exception not the rule i right
- 52:09one of my best friends in the entire
- 52:10world um him and his wife when he
- 52:12comes to the gym uh they were actually
- 52:14there before i got there and uh jeff
- 52:17won't
- 52:18He won't judge his wife anymore because
- 52:22she flat cussed him out in the middle
- 52:23of it.
- 52:25Oh, man,
- 52:26which sometime around twenty twenty or
- 52:29twenty twenty one.
- 52:30So on those lines,
- 52:31I was there for it.
- 52:32It was fantastic.
- 52:34Like she stopped and turned around and
- 52:36like gave him one of these.
- 52:38And he was like,
- 52:38you're not getting low enough on your wall
- 52:40balls.
- 52:41And she flew on him.
- 52:42It was fantastic.
- 52:44But what I'm getting at is that the
- 52:45people that do end up signing up.
- 52:48Once you get in it,
- 52:49and then they remember, oh, yeah,
- 52:52this is actually fun, and they enjoy it,
- 52:54and they beat themselves up sometimes.
- 52:59I'm going to call you out, Larry.
- 53:00I don't know, Corey.
- 53:01I go and I don't care about beating
- 53:03anybody in the gym.
- 53:04Larry, I've seen your posts.
- 53:06I've seen you.
- 53:07You care about beating yourself.
- 53:09You want to be better than you were
- 53:11yesterday,
- 53:12and it is very evident that you are
- 53:14very competitive in making yourself
- 53:17better.
- 53:18And so shout out to Chase Ingram because
- 53:22he's the one that said it a couple
- 53:23of years ago.
- 53:24I've been repeating it ad nauseum is the
- 53:27the open is if nothing else,
- 53:30even if you're I don't care about blah,
- 53:32blah, blah.
- 53:33It is your yearly fitness checkup.
- 53:35Am I fitter than I was last year?
- 53:38Can I finish three spots higher to twenty
- 53:40spots higher,
- 53:41a hundred spots higher than I did last
- 53:43year in the open?
- 53:45So I don't want to hear that.
- 53:46I don't care about beating anybody.
- 53:48Then you still need to beat yourself.
- 53:51Like, yeah,
- 53:52you want to be better than you were
- 53:53yesterday for days.
- 53:55I need to,
- 53:56I need to be able to compete with
- 53:57these cardio junkies.
- 53:58And that's why he signed up for an
- 54:00affiliate.
- 54:01And that's why he's trying to make himself
- 54:02better.
- 54:07Therefore you care.
- 54:09yeah it's more about getting my old self
- 54:11back but failing badly you're not because
- 54:13you're there and you're showing up buddy
- 54:16yeah uh and don't talk about my friends
- 54:19like that larry you're not failing dude as
- 54:23long as you're still trying don't you
- 54:24still get up you are not failing you
- 54:26can't yep that man's an inspiration
- 54:32I'm going to finish off today's show with
- 54:34this.
- 54:35It's the year end.
- 54:37You look back a lot.
- 54:39I'm so thankful for all the people that
- 54:41make this show great,
- 54:42and that includes you, Corey.
- 54:43I talked about that yesterday.
- 54:46Holly is the best research and analysis
- 54:51person there is.
