- 0:06Speaker 1: Good morning, Elena, good morning.
- 0:09Speaker 2: How's everyone doing.
- 0:10Speaker 1: To Oh just on top of the world.
- 0:14Speaker 2: Oh, I love that.
- 0:16Speaker 3: It's you might be feel better if you got some
- 0:19Speaker 3: sun bill. Maybe you should go.
- 0:20Speaker 1: Get some some safety tips. The way I deal with
- 0:24Speaker 1: the sun as I stay in the house and get
- 0:26Speaker 1: under my bed. Yeah, just stay there.
- 0:30Speaker 2: But it's good to get completely covered.
- 0:32Speaker 3: It's good to get outside, though, just do it safely,
- 0:35Speaker 3: right Elena.
- 0:36Speaker 2: Yes, absolutely, And you know being outside, didn't. We've talked
- 0:40Speaker 2: about this in the past is one of the really
- 0:44Speaker 2: great ways to improve our overall well being. Of course
- 0:47Speaker 2: we have considerations such as sun exposure, and of course
- 0:52Speaker 2: are our air quality here in Utah is one of
- 0:54Speaker 2: the things that we need to be aware of as well.
- 0:57Speaker 2: But today we'll talk about sun exposures too much. If
- 1:00Speaker 2: we do everything in.
- 1:01Speaker 1: One Yeah, I mean you're talking about the right guy.
- 1:05Speaker 1: I'm mister skin cancer guy. Myself on you know, had
- 1:09Speaker 1: it on my face numerous, numerous times.
- 1:13Speaker 2: Oh my goodness, it's very common. Yeah. Yeah, I think so.
- 1:18Speaker 2: We were such high altitude that it definitely puts us
- 1:22Speaker 2: at a little bit higher risk than some of the
- 1:24Speaker 2: places that might be lower altitude.
- 1:26Speaker 1: So what are we?
- 1:27Speaker 3: What are we?
- 1:27Speaker 1: Where do we start here?
- 1:29Speaker 2: Yeah, so this is mostly the basics wearing protective clothing.
- 1:34Speaker 2: This can include long sleeves, pants, wide brim hats, anything
- 1:40Speaker 2: that can kind of help protect your body from that
- 1:42Speaker 2: direct exposure to the sun. Of course, you want to
- 1:46Speaker 2: look for clothing that is breathable so you don't overheat,
- 1:50Speaker 2: as well as that has built in UV protection.
- 1:53Speaker 1: Yeah. That's something I didn't realize until a few years ago.
- 1:56Speaker 1: You could buy shirts that actually have UV protection in them.
- 2:01Speaker 1: It's almost like sunscreen.
- 2:04Speaker 2: Yeah, yeah, absolutely, and those well, just like a cotton
- 2:08Speaker 2: T shirt or whatever can help. These give you just
- 2:12Speaker 2: that extra layer of protection.
- 2:14Speaker 1: Yeah, all right.
- 2:15Speaker 2: What's next next is to stay in the shade when
- 2:20Speaker 2: you can. So if you are spending time outside, do
- 2:24Speaker 2: your best to keep too shaded areas. This might be
- 2:28Speaker 2: places like parks with trees. Maybe you carry an umbrella
- 2:33Speaker 2: or have one of those little.
- 2:34Speaker 1: Pop up carry carries a parasol when.
- 2:40Speaker 2: Oh, I bet that's beautiful.
- 2:42Speaker 1: I have several to choose from. Yeah, it's very it's
- 2:46Speaker 1: very nice.
- 2:48Speaker 2: What else we got wear sunscreen of course, and we're
- 2:55Speaker 2: looking of course, for water and sweat resistant broad spectrum sunscreen,
- 3:01Speaker 2: the recommendation is to find an SPS of at least
- 3:06Speaker 2: thirty and then reapply every couple of hours. And this
- 3:11Speaker 2: might change based on if you're swimming and sweating, you
- 3:14Speaker 2: might need to do it a little bit more that
- 3:17Speaker 2: just generally that you.
- 3:20Speaker 1: I read somewhere I heard somewhere along the time ago
- 3:23Speaker 1: that thirty SPF that's that's pretty much all you need
- 3:28Speaker 1: if you see, you know, like the SPF fifty and
- 3:31Speaker 1: you're just you're paying for not really that much ext me.
- 3:34Speaker 2: You know, I have read that as well, and I
- 3:38Speaker 2: cannot cite my sources. It sounds like on it, but
- 3:41Speaker 2: I have seen that.
- 3:43Speaker 1: It sounds like big Sunscreen is trying to convince you, well, yeah,
- 3:47Speaker 1: the SPF fifty is much better, but apparently.
- 3:50Speaker 2: It isn't really you know what, Yeah, there's a diminishing return.
- 3:54Speaker 3: Yeah, you know, Elena, I keep sunscreen in my purse
- 3:57Speaker 3: and before I go, before I go out driving, I
- 4:02Speaker 3: put it on my hands. Yes, because you think, well,
- 4:05Speaker 3: you're in your car, you don't need it. Think about
- 4:09Speaker 3: your hands sitting there in direct sunlight when you're out
- 4:12Speaker 3: driving around.
- 4:12Speaker 1: Now what's causing all these brown spots on your hands? Man?
- 4:17Speaker 2: Yeah? Absolutely, And this is one of my tips as well,
- 4:21Speaker 2: is using sunscreen even while we're indoors, especially during these
- 4:25Speaker 2: sunnier months. So inside your home, inside your car, I
- 4:29Speaker 2: think the car especially you're exposed. But if you have
- 4:33Speaker 2: windows things like that in your house, you are still
- 4:36Speaker 2: getting that exposure. And so, yeah, Gina's right, absolutely, such
- 4:40Speaker 2: a good tip.
- 4:41Speaker 1: I'm going to start wearing sunglasses indoors and outdoors indoors.
- 4:45Speaker 2: Oh perfect, I think you're gonna look really good. And
- 4:51Speaker 2: sunglasses are actually a very helpful tool. They're not just
- 4:55Speaker 2: stylish and cool, although they are those things, they also
- 4:59Speaker 2: helped you protect your eyes as well as that delicate
- 5:02Speaker 2: skin around your eyes from the sun from the UV exposure.
- 5:06Speaker 2: So yes, where your sunglasses?
- 5:10Speaker 1: All right? And then what else is sunscreen? And oh
- 5:15Speaker 1: even indoors you already said that, yeah yeah, yeah.
- 5:17Speaker 2: Well so there you go, Gina read my mind.
- 5:20Speaker 1: Your skin is your largest organ, so take care of it.
- 5:24Speaker 1: Where can we find out more?
- 5:27Speaker 2: You can learn more about this as well as Nightingale's
- 5:29Speaker 2: amazing programs by visiting Nightingale dot ed U.
- 5:33Speaker 1: All right, thank you, Elena, thank you
- 5:35Speaker 2: Thank you, take care all right.
