- 2:38I like that. That was nice, y'all. Hey, you guys,
- 2:42is another Saturday Night and it is your girl sc book galt A four three
- 2:46Patrece Grimble and we are here with another book. You guys, this is
- 2:54crazy because I had just saw this author's book on TikTok and I screenshot it
- 3:00right because I know I'm gonna read it. And then I put out a
- 3:04post saying hey, I got an open date, and she chimed in.
- 3:07You guys should see my mouth drop. When I knew the book, I
- 3:13was like, yo, I just screenshot this book because I wanted to read
- 3:17it because the TikToker was going mad crazy and I'm like, look, I
- 3:23gotta add this to my list. It is so privileged tonight to have the
- 3:28author of a second Chance Christmas off the Queen Tea. Come on up,
- 3:35girly, Hi, thank you for hi. No, thank you. It
- 3:43was crazy. When you hit me and I got the email with your book
- 3:47cover, I was like, yo, I just screenshot this book. Look
- 3:52book and my son is looking at me like, oh, here she go.
- 3:55So thank you for coming on to night. How are you? I'm
- 4:01doing well. How are you today? I'm good, good, good,
- 4:05got off the jump and now I'm here tonight and getting ready to talk to
- 4:11you. So tell us a little bit about yourself. Oh wow, my
- 4:18name is Tatiana. I go by the pen name Queen Tea. I have
- 4:23been published since twenty eighteen. I just graduated from college with my undergrad and
- 4:29I said to myself, I want to at least drop one book just to
- 4:32you know, get my foot in the water, see if I like it.
- 4:35And from there I've been, you know, writing. I did have
- 4:40like a little break last year. I dropped maybe one book, a Christmas
- 4:44book, which you know I love dropping Christmas book. I had my twins
- 4:47in January, which was the reason why I didn't write last year. And
- 4:51after graduating with my master's last year, I decided, let's try to get
- 4:57back into the swing of things, and so I separated from my former publisher
- 5:02and I had this Christmas book that I was writing in between, and I
- 5:06was like, you know what, let me try to see if I can
- 5:09do it independent and see if it's going to be well received if it's not,
- 5:13just so I can get an idea off. You know, writing is
- 5:15really what I want to do on the side because I'm a special education teacher
- 5:18by day and I'll never give that up. So I knew for sure that
- 5:25let me see what happens, because everybody loves Christmas. But when I was
- 5:28writing this book, I decided to write a little bit different, and I'm
- 5:32happy I actually got it out. So that's a little bit about me.
- 5:36Now. That's one of the things that the TikToker said. I cannot remember
- 5:41her name because she said the book was different. She said, Christmas,
- 5:45I think different. I was like, everybody's going to fall in love and
- 5:48blah blah, somebody gonna get stabled something in this book. So that's what
- 5:54it had me thinking, and that's where I screenshot it. Well. First
- 5:58of all, from the sister of someone who has or had special needs,
- 6:03I would like to say thank you because I know it's not easy and we
- 6:10as the family really do appreciate it that you take that extra step to give
- 6:15love to those with special needs. So thank you. Now my pleasure to
- 6:20the twins. God bless you and happy early birthday. Do you have twin
- 6:28girls, a twin boy. No, I have a boy and a girl.
- 6:31Oh you got the best of both world, girl, I do.
- 6:38So let's get into this Second Chance Christmas. Okay, you said it's difference.
- 6:46Can you tell us a little bit about Oh, he's about the difference.
- 6:51Okay. So it's still a happily ever after. So there is a
- 6:56happily ever after with the ending. However, it's different because like all my
- 7:01other Christmas books, there's always some hint of like chaos, but then it
- 7:05also railed together towards the end. So I say it's different because it's titled
- 7:11The Second Chance Christmas because it shows a second chance at love. So the
- 7:15two main characters were married, been going through a nasty divorce, and the
- 7:20husband realizes after having so many issues two Christmases in a row. That's why
- 7:27it's called second chance. He decides when Christmas that he wants to win his
- 7:30family back, and so you go through the whole thing of them trying to
- 7:35figure out if they can make it, you know, back to each other,
- 7:39or if it was really just leave it how it is. Let's co
- 7:42parent, We don't need to be in a relationship together, but the main
- 7:46character. His name is Solomon and his ex wife is Sage. Solomon goes
- 7:50through a lot. He puts stage through a whole lot. He not only
- 7:54cheats two Christmases in a row, but he starts realizing as he gets older,
- 7:59everything he did he regrets. And so I'll just call this a little
- 8:05bit about the beginning. He gets into an altercation with his brother in law,
- 8:09which is the opening scene. It's chaotic, it's everything that you wouldn't
- 8:16think in a Christmas book. But at the same time, you get an
- 8:18understanding as to why Sage decided she didn't want to deal with this anymore.
- 8:22So a lot of people have been saying it's kind of toxic in a way.
- 8:26I don't see it like that because I wrote it, but it does
- 8:30show the realization of I thought the grass was greener on the other side,
- 8:35but now I'm regretting it. I'm trying to win back. Oh yo,
- 8:41this grass is greener. I think that's gonna be twenty twenty four. I
- 8:46think so truly, because everybody is is telling people, look, you know,
- 8:54it's green. It might be spray painted. So this this grass is
- 8:58green. I think that might be the subject line of a lot of people
- 9:03in twenty twenty four, but hey, to each his own, to each
- 9:07his own. So is there a certain reason for your characters' names or it's
- 9:16just something that you came up with. Well, I always loved the name
- 9:20stage, so I knew that I wanted to have a character with that.
- 9:24But when I was trying to do like my Christmas like every time I get
- 9:26ready for Christmas and start writing the Earth, and I felt like, I've
- 9:31used so many Christmas character names and everybody ever uses the same one, Nicholas
- 9:37and and Ebony and Ebanie, the usual. So I'm like, you know
- 9:41what, I want a name that's close to like the Christmas element, but
- 9:45not really because you know, Solomon has been used a number of times in
- 9:48the urban fiction world, however I haven't seen one for Christmas. So I
- 9:52wanted like MATCHI names. I know it sounds really corny, but I'm like,
- 9:56Okay, her name is said, so I need to find something with
- 9:58a s as a ring to it. But at the same time, when
- 10:03I chose Solomon's name, it just sounded so good together with her name.
- 10:07And also, Solomon is a rapper, and so he does have a rap
- 10:11name. And when I broke down his name to get his rap name,
- 10:13it all just fits together. Oh but it's not. I don't think it's
- 10:18corny. I like that. Say you just Solomon. It just sounds right
- 10:24together. Yeah, it just like she saw sage Solomon. You know what
- 10:30I'm saying exactly, That's exactly what it was supposed to be. It just
- 10:35gives it that strength behind the name. So is there anything that you would
- 10:41hope your readers would take away from your book. I would hope that they
- 10:48take away from these particular characters that you see the dynamic of how when you
- 10:54love someone, you love them with everything in you and you try to see
- 10:56the good even though there's the bad right in your face. I would want
- 11:01for them to take away that Solomon realized his wrongs. It may not have
- 11:05been when everybody would want it, but he realized it along the way of
- 11:11what he did wrong and what contributed to the ending of his relationship. But
- 11:15at the same time stage even though she has her own secrets that will eventually
- 11:18come out in the book, she also was strong enough to realize that she
- 11:22deserved more, and so I feel like every bit of her character was to
- 11:28showcase that I love you, but then I also know that I have to
- 11:31love myself and my kids more, and I don't deserve what you're giving,
- 11:35no matter how long we've been together. So I want people to take away
- 11:39from Solomon realizing his wrongs, but Sage also being strong enough to realize that
- 11:43if we don't end up together, I'll be just fine. Ooh, okay,
- 11:48So we're gonna take a commercial break because you just put godly did not
- 11:54you make me really want to get this book? Like, but we're going
- 11:58to take commercial break and we're gonna come back now. The second half of
- 12:01the show is normally when the fun fun happens. So you guys, we're
- 12:05gonna take commercial. Come on back afterwards. Okay, turn off the lights.
- 13:07A candle, tonight, a man, a merchant. Let's take a
- 13:20shower shower together. I was abandoned. You was my da and some mot
- 13:39wealthy and save Jayce. Turn off the come girl. I want to care
- 14:01of you with special treat You're so sweet. Turn Oh sorry, y'all,
- 14:13I was all into y'all know that's my song, welcome back. We're on
- 14:20the second half, So Queen Tea, I don't know if you've ever seen
- 14:24my show before. But the second half is when we have some fun.
- 14:31I do send my authors out questions, you guys, we don't always go
- 14:35through all the questions. I like to let the conversation flow, okay,
- 14:39But the second half we try to have a little bit of fun. So
- 14:46if you can place any male character in your book, well, let's just
- 14:54go with your main character. If you could put him in any TV show,
- 15:03what would it be and how would he put into that ship? Hmmm,
- 15:11that's a good one. So let me tell you what I'm thinking.
- 15:16I am thinking living single, and I'm seeing Kyle. I love living single.
- 15:26I could I could definitely see that. I have, I could see
- 15:31that. I can. You know, I'm from New York, from Queens,
- 15:35so I can see him doing like being in a living stale on nineties
- 15:39kind of I honestly I would place him if I could, I would probably
- 15:45pay him either in the Fresh Prince of bel Air, okay, or I
- 15:50can definitely definitely see him. And there's a show I used to love called
- 15:56The Game with Tamauri. I could definitely see him in that more of like
- 16:00a comedic kind of serious drama kind of thing like I could see him in
- 16:06need of those two. Okay, so if we picked one of the main
- 16:10characters of the games, because I loved it too. I really got into
- 16:11it once, you know, him and Melanie was going through everything. M
- 16:15h. And they brought Brandy on. I was kind of like, Okay,
- 16:18they lost me. Yeah that was here. Then Tasha got pregnant.
- 16:23It was like, Okay, y'all could have been way better than us.
- 16:26But who would he be on the game? Hmmm? I could see him
- 16:33being either Moleik because even though like like I hated when Brandy came on,
- 16:38I'm not gonna lie. I really just stopped watching because it just wasn't too
- 16:44much for me. But when they did the reboot, which they canceled and
- 16:47I'm kind of mad about that, the growth from Eleak from the first series
- 16:52to the reboot, I could definitely see being Solomon. Okay, I think
- 16:56I might have to go catch well. I got some work to do,
- 17:00so I think that might have to because I didn't want to look at the
- 17:03reboot because that was what is this Brandy yet? Yeah, once you get
- 17:08out of that headspace like Brandy when she came when they took it to bet
- 17:11and they lost all the main characters, and then they try to make Lauren
- 17:15London and and Jay Elliott or something like that. They try to make them
- 17:22the main character. The storyline wasn't as good, but when Paramount repicked it
- 17:26up and they did a reboot, it wasn't the same. It was still
- 17:30some characters, but it was new characters. It was really good because now
- 17:34you got a backstory on why Maleak was the way he was from the first
- 17:38show, and it was really what wouldn't That's why it's mad they canceled it,
- 17:41but it definitely gave you more of an eye opener. And also Tasha's
- 17:45character grew too, So I really did like the reboot. Okay, you
- 17:51gave me on my I got something on my on my watch list. So
- 17:55now your female character, Sage, if she can be any old school female
- 18:00R and B artist, who would she be? Oh God, I from
- 18:07a little bit that I read, I was getting and I think I might
- 18:14be wrong on this one. I was getting like I need a Baker like
- 18:22I want to be. Was that good? I would definitely say Anita Baker
- 18:27or Tammy Torell. Definitely girl, I'm I'm in the wrong era I'm a
- 18:37motown girl. Listen, I just literally play your precious love over and over
- 18:41to the point I was like, I don't understand how you know any of
- 18:45these songs, but I would take her as Tammy Torell because if you listen
- 18:48to not only the songs that she have with Marvin Gaye, her song catalog
- 18:53itself beautiful. I would say tim Torell, she is her whole like a
- 19:00love song exactly. It's it's a whole exactly. You hear the pain in
- 19:07her voice and you definitely can hear there's a song that I can't remember who
- 19:12redid it, but she has the original, Oh Phoebe Wonder, she has
- 19:18the original one versus Stevie Wonder's version. Hers is more like you can literally
- 19:22hear her her pain in the whole song. What is it called? All
- 19:27I do? All I do is she has one and I play it all
- 19:32the time. Yeah, she has the original version. I didn't know that
- 19:37she has the original version, and it's really slowed down and you can hear
- 19:41literally every no, it sounds as if she's crying on the song. It's
- 19:45beautiful and that's I did get a lot of emotion from her in the book.
- 19:51I didn't have time to read the whole thing, but I did pull
- 19:52parts of it. But I was reading, I get a lot of emotion
- 19:56from her character h very very when I was writing her, like I literally
- 20:00do. That was like, now I have a new favorite character. So
- 20:11and that leads into this question. When you're writing these emotional scenes, is
- 20:18it training? Like how do you how do you set the mood to write
- 20:23this? Okay, this is gonna be hard, she's about to go through
- 20:27it. How do you how do you set that mood to write that way?
- 20:33I'm not gonna even lie. It's kind of hard now, Like I'm
- 20:37in a happy space like in my life, so really getting down to it,
- 20:41I have to be in my element. And that's like I'm a night
- 20:47writer, so I write late at night when my kids are you know,
- 20:48sleeping, or they're getting up for like the night feeding. That's when I'm
- 20:52writing. I'm writing like two three in the morning, and so my mind
- 20:56works a little bit better around that time because I'm like sleep the prime,
- 21:00So I can think a little bit clearer, and I can think of how
- 21:03I want to execute the emotion. So for her, I have to be
- 21:07in that space of like either being sleep deprived really heavily, like like liquid
- 21:12courage, like just drinking some wine and like really sitting with it, no
- 21:17serious like drinking it and sitting with it because like for me, like when
- 21:21I'm at a silence, like when it's just dead at night, no no
- 21:25music, no crying, nothing, my mind works a little bit better.
- 21:29And so I could tap in a little bit to those emotions, and a
- 21:32lot of them is like emotions from past relationships and just pass her and I
- 21:37literally have to hone in on it for me to write it. So I'll
- 21:41sit and I'm like, okay, this is how she's feeling. How can
- 21:44I really get that emotion out? And once I literally sit with it,
- 21:48I take a couple SIPs of my wine, the emotion starts flowing and I
- 21:52literally will sit and I will write so much, and then I have to
- 21:56revise it because I'm like, okay, that's a little too much. Like
- 21:59even one of the thing that she did and she was really just letting him
- 22:03have it. It was more intense. But I'm like, okay, this
- 22:07is novella. I can't really put all of this out. Let me try
- 22:10to scale it back a little bit where you can still get the point but
- 22:12not overdoing it. Okay, Okay, So you tell them about wine.
- 22:18Do you have a wind up choice? Or if I'm feeling like, okay,
- 22:25I need to get this out. I have a due date, I'm
- 22:26drinking either reasling or prosecco, those are my two. If if I'm just
- 22:32you know, I have no cares in the world and I just want to
- 22:33unwind, I'm drinking like moscato, and those are the three. I only
- 22:38like whites. I'll drink red every once in a while, but the whites
- 22:42are the ones that really taps into all the emotions for me. Are they
- 22:48say so? They say that that white stuff. Uh? I don't know
- 22:52people how that happens. So if you can invite one person at dinner,
- 23:00what are your characters? Who would it be and what would you say to
- 23:06them? If I can invite one character, it would definitely be Sage,
- 23:12definitely be said. What would you say to her? I probably would thank
- 23:18her because I feel like her story is a story that so many women can
- 23:25resonate with. I feel like she showed strength in times when she really didn't
- 23:30feel she had it inside of her, And I would thank her because writing
- 23:33her really was like very therapeutic for me because it really got a lot of
- 23:37past trauma passed emotions that I had bottled up. It finally came to the
- 23:42surface and I was able to really get her emotion out. And also,
- 23:47like I was watching Love and Hip Hop and this was around the time when
- 23:51Erica was going through her whole back and forth with Safari, and it really
- 23:55opened my eyes because I like, I like reality TV. I hate to
- 23:59say it, it's my way of unwhining after a hard work of her day
- 24:03of work. And so to see her relationship from the beginning that when you
- 24:07know, Love and Hip Hop showed it when she was on another show and
- 24:10he really just taste her and wore her down and she didn't want nothing to
- 24:15do with him, and then for him to do what he did to her,
- 24:18it really just did something for me, and I like felt Sage's character
- 24:23even more just thinking of her situation of how she had to deal with all
- 24:27that stuff, and so it mirrored for me Sage one hundred percent, because
- 24:32it's like you give your all and at the end, it's never exactly what
- 24:37you gave out, and then you question whether it's you, whether you know
- 24:40what's the reason why all this is happening to me. I'm a good person,
- 24:42so I definitely would invite her and thank her because I feel her story
- 24:47really tapped into a lot of emotions that I did not want to get out,
- 24:51but I was happy to get out. And once the book was done
- 24:53and sent to the editor and the test readers you know, were telling me
- 24:56parts they liked, then I'm like, Okay, I could pat myself on
- 25:00the back because I got out what I wanted to get out. I feel
- 25:03you with that. I am big in reality TV right now. Well,
- 25:08I've always been. My thing is married to medicine. Oh my gosh,
- 25:12did you see the new season? Hey, we might have to be in
- 25:18boxing each other on the show on because like we are, And how you
- 25:23going to write the ex wife to the bride and shallow of the new you
