- 0:00I was spending. A big spender. Money was coming
- 0:08Obviously having you as a mentor and walking me through some strategies on
- 0:12It's not also about not spending, is it? Because you spend money still, but
- 0:23I think it's the fear. The fear of the unknowing. The fear of getting uncomfortable.
- 0:29Do you think the strategy is complex? No. I'm Lloyd James Ross, seven-figure
- 0:32investor and entrepreneur, and I've helped thousands of business owners and
- 0:36professionals turn financial stress into success. If

- 0:42to start, this is for you. I'll give you the mindset and
- 0:46strategies to take control, grow your wealth, and achieve financial
- 0:50freedom. It's time to make your money work for you. All
- 0:53right, welcome to this very special episode of the Money Grows on Trees podcast.
- 0:57I'm joined by a very, very, very special guest. You're going to love this
- 1:00episode. She's flown in all the way from
- 1:04Canada. And by that I mean Canada. So yeah,
- 1:0830 hours to get here. We just came off the back of a wonderful event together.
- 1:12She's now actually a big part of our team. But most importantly,
- 1:16she's here to share her journey of how she got
- 1:19her money under control. And it's none other than Melissa Corciato.
- 1:24Thanks, Lloyd. Good to be here. Great to be here. It's wild that you're in the studio. Absolutely,
- 1:28We've known each other for just a bit over three years. Yep.
- 1:39So you come all the way to Australia and we pull you into a studio. Yet
- 1:42to see a kangaroo, but that'll change today. Excellent. So welcome.
- 1:55We like to have some fun. So we
- 1:59just came off the back of an event together these last two days. We had our elite student
- 2:02event which we were able to fly in for which is awesome. And
- 2:06so now we are in the studio and I would love to unpack for
- 2:09the audience to share with them the lessons you've learned on
- 2:13shifting your entire money, I would say
- 2:17philosophy, your wealth philosophy, since being with us
- 2:20for the last three years and how that's impacted your life. So
- 2:23I'd love to share that with them, if we can impact that wisdom. Because you're
- 2:29the first Canadian student on the show. ever,
- 2:33which is cool. So I want to go back and
- 2:36begin with what was life like
- 2:40before we got to know each other, before you came into
- 2:43our circle, into our realm. So go back and
- 2:46tell us a little bit about who Melissa is, what life was like, what you
- 2:55Prior to meeting you, I thought life was good. I thought
- 2:58life was smoothing along. Things are going great. But
- 3:03it wasn't until I started being
- 3:06in your circle, being in your realm, seeing other
- 3:09people and coaching other people where I actually
- 3:12had to look myself in the mirror and be like, holy man,
- 3:17I do have issues with my finances. Things aren't perfect. And
- 3:21that's when I realized that I actually needed help myself. seeing
- 3:25my clients go through the process and changing their mindset, changing
- 3:28their behaviors, changing their finances and getting results. I
- 3:33needed to take control of myself and my finances because they're
- 3:40Out of control is just not being mindful of what I was doing with my
- 3:44I was spending. A big spender. Money was coming
- 3:50So what things, like what, well, firstly, why,
- 3:55I think it's just, it was happening because
- 3:59of how I grew up and growing up
- 4:02with nothing and not having money to go out and spend, not
- 4:05having money to go out and buy things for myself restricted
- 4:10me. And then all of a sudden I have money now and
- 4:16Right, so you had no real control mechanism on it. What are some of the things you spent
- 4:21Clothes, vehicles, side-by-sides, you
- 4:27So for those non-Canadian or non-North American listeners, a
- 4:33Is an off-roading machine that's
- 4:39It's like this cool off-road like Polaris buggy. We went in
- 4:42one when we were in Canada. We drove one. A friend of ours had one and they're
- 4:49Actually I asked him when I was like, how much are they? And he said it's like
- 4:53Yeah. And it was like we always had to have the next best thing, the
- 4:56next best thing. So as soon as it got old, well we needed to purchase something new
- 5:04I don't know. I think it really goes back to again, not
- 5:10Sure. So you had this like, it's like when you, you
- 5:14first discover alcohol in your teens, you're like, yes, I can drink a beer. And
- 5:17then you have no like gauge orders to how many you should have. You
- 5:21learn the lessons. So, okay, cool. All right. So what
- 5:24else is going on with your money? Like besides the spending thing, what, what
- 5:28else, what other habits and behaviors had you picked up or that
- 5:34I think not looking at my finances, so not looking
- 5:37at the bank account, not auditing, not being
- 5:44So those behaviors as you had them going on, like
- 5:47getting the best new thing and not looking at your bank statement and
- 6:08I could venture with my family, go on trips, travel. Come
- 6:14OK. And what other things? Like, what else was, like, when
- 6:17you went, oh, I can see where my gaps
- 6:21are here, why, like, what
- 6:24could you see unfolding if you didn't fix the gaps? So
- 6:27besides not being able to travel and take your family on vacations and stuff, was there anything
- 6:31I would have been never be able to retire. I wouldn't
- 6:35be able to have anything for my children for going to school or nothing
- 6:39to live on because I had no pension. I had no emergence,
- 6:52In times, yeah. If something broke down and we needed to fix it, pull
- 6:58Right. So, and what impact did that have, having the credit card
- 7:06And so, you got two boys, you're married with two boys, two young
- 7:10boys, so you're a mom. And
- 7:13tell us a little bit about like what you do for work and how that had an impact on
- 7:17I'm a success coach. Um, I do make really good money
- 7:24In sales. Yeah. So just allow me to spend more
- 7:27money because I was making lots of money. So I spent it. Um,
- 7:35No, like what, what are you, so like if we, if we go back, so you're a mom, tell
- 7:39us a bit about who you are. Like we need to, I want to know,
- 7:42I want the audience to know like who is Melissa and why
- 7:48So a mom of two boys, success
- 7:53coach, passionate about health and wellness. I'm a
- 7:56bodybuilder, I compete, really
- 8:02value my family and just
- 8:08Yeah. So you're a bodybuilding competitor, right? Yes. Like
- 8:12Yeah. So you have discipline in that area. Did
- 8:19Not always. Not until probably
- 8:24Okay. And so what, what, what did you discover in that moment
- 8:30Yeah. Because how you, how you approach your health is
- 8:35not always, but mostly how you approach everything else. Right.
- 8:39Because would you agree to have, to have a good body, to
- 8:42be healthy requires discipline, like not eating the wrong foods
- 8:45too much and working out, et cetera. Massive. Right. So what happened to
- 8:53Coming up from an addiction. and being in a
- 9:02That's when I decided to change. And I decided to
- 9:12Eating healthy, looking after my body, working out, fueling
- 9:23So stop drugs, was
- 9:26it drugs you're addicted to? Okay, so drugs, you started
- 9:31eating better, looking after your body and then the impacts
- 9:35Feeling better, got my family back, got
- 9:40And so you hit rock bottom in your health and then
- 9:43you fixed it. Was there a time where you felt you hit rock bottom
- 9:49Yeah, two times back in 2008. When
- 9:52I had to claim bankruptcy, that was rock bottom,
- 9:56handing over everything and being a failure in my
- 10:00finances. And then got my credit back up,
- 10:04built my credit back up and kind of went rock bottom again because my
- 10:08patterns and my habits with my spending didn't change.
- 10:18who failed once before, you can fail
- 10:22But what impact was that having on your life, being bankrupt or
- 10:28It was like an impact because I've already done that with my body
- 10:31and my being an addict for so long. It was almost like being
- 10:37And so what was the story you're telling yourself? Like I'm bankrupt? The
- 10:55And what about going bankrupt and then hitting rock bottom financially again? Like,
- 10:59what were you, were you seeking answers? Were you wanting to get out of
- 11:02it? Were you wanting to live a different life financially? Like with more
- 11:05money, is there anything you had on your, in your mind? Like, I really
- 11:09would love to do this, but because I have claimed bankruptcy and I can't get
- 11:12control of my money, I can't do those things. Was there ever that conversation?
- 11:21just something inside of me changed that there is more to life
- 11:26than being a failure. There's more to life than hitting rock bottom.
- 11:32So what are some of the things, once we met, what
- 11:35are some of the things that you wanted to do but you couldn't because you didn't have the finances
- 11:39I was thinking like there is so much more
- 11:43to life and I know that people can change and
- 11:46I've seen it in people with their finances. I've seen it in myself with
- 11:51becoming clean and changing and not going
- 11:54back. But it wasn't like that with my
- 11:58finances because I kept going back. But I think seeing that
- 12:03you can change in your health but you can also change in your finances as
- 12:12Like watching you and Alicia and your life and what you guys
- 12:16do and how happy you are and where you get to go and there's
- 12:19no stress, there's no financial strain,
- 12:26Yeah right, so you saw this vision of like hey well maybe if I have all this in
- 12:30place and it's I can utilize it more effectively. So
- 12:35tell us, what are some of the things then, like so you've discovered this,
- 12:38you're like, I want this. And then what are some of the steps you took
- 12:46I started working on myself, on
- 12:52Getting to the root cause of why I've spent money,
- 12:56where that originated from, why I needed
- 13:02Because it fulfilled me, because I never had it when I was younger. But
- 13:09So when did your mindset flip? When you were working on your mindset, what
- 13:12thing did you do that went, okay, I'm now ready to shift
- 13:16I think just looking back to my past and seeing all the patterns and seeing all,
- 13:20nothing was changing. and I knew I needed to
- 13:23change it, just like I changed it with my health and becoming
- 13:30Great, so what's the first step you did to change? The practical, tactical
- 13:34step in your finances that you recall, okay, this is
- 13:37a practical step. So you got your mindset going, hey, I'm aware, because
- 13:41awareness is the first step of transformation, so now I'm aware of these patterns, I
- 13:45now see a juicier life that I wanna get to, Tactically,
- 13:49physically, what did you then do to start
- 14:05Because of all the outgoings, all the debits, all the debits, all the debits and
- 14:12So then what did you do when you looked at it? Okay, lots of debits, lots of
- 14:15outgoings. What was going on then? What did
- 14:19Then I realized I needed to cut back and I just start saying no to
- 14:27And no to my husband. That
- 14:30was hard because as a mom, you want to give your kids everything.
- 14:36But at the same time, it's not teaching them anything either because they're
- 14:44So you made a decision, you're like, you know what, I'm just going
- 14:47to start saying no more. And
- 14:53The spending stopped. More money was in the account. There
- 15:03Then I started paying myself first. I
- 15:07started putting money aside for an emergency fund. I
- 15:11learned how to invest, where to put my money. I
- 15:18Yeah. So let's go recap the steps. So you looked at your bank statement. Awesome.
- 15:22Too much going out, not enough coming in or some coming in, not too
- 15:25much going out. So say no more often, bup, bup, bup. You put a
- 15:29plug in the hole. You kind of plug the hole in the boat. So it
- 15:32stops sinking. And all of a sudden, bup, bup, bup, money starts appearing in
- 15:35the account, right? Yeah. Then you said emergency fund. Why
- 15:39Because if I have an emergency happen, I don't have to put onto a credit card. Right.
- 15:48Right, without relying on credit. Right. Which could build up and
- 15:52So that's a good step. So look at the bank accounts, start saying no more,
- 16:02So when I pay myself 10%, that 10% goes into my investment.
- 16:22That's okay. It's the beginning. Have you been paid passive income? Yes. Wonderful.
- 16:26It's funny when you see people, they come on the show and I say, have you been
- 16:29paid passive income? And their smile goes. What's
- 16:40It's like, wow. my future is
- 16:46Sure, yeah, so your money's falling off the tree. Great. So, anything
- 16:51else? So, you've put in these steps and like if you listen to our show
- 16:55and you read our books, you can see these steps in action, right? And that's what you saw
- 16:58with our students. You're like, oh, I can see these steps getting put in place and
- 17:01it makes so much sense because there's financial pieces not as far away as I thought
- 17:05it would be. So, you start doing it. And so, you're shifting things,
- 17:08right? And what was happening then? How did you feel then? What was going on?
- 17:12I felt in control of my life, like my destiny.
- 17:16And not only being able to shift these behaviors
- 17:20and these habits, it also allowed
- 17:23me to pay off all of my credit card debt, all of my personal loans, which
- 17:27was $150,000. You had $150,000 in debt? Yes.
- 17:33Just quickly, if you're ready to take control of your finances but feel stuck on
- 17:36where to start, I have a solution. My book Money Bias Happiness
- 17:40simplifies investing and wealth building with practical steps to help
- 17:43you achieve financial peace. Get your copy via the
- 17:47link in the show notes and let's get your money working for you. Now back
- 17:56The truck, your truck. I had a truck. And just credit
- 18:02You also notice in North America, I see, because I see
- 18:05students, you know, set ups all the time, financial situations all
- 18:09the time, every day. And notice in North America, they will keep giving
- 18:12you credit card beyond six figures. It is wild. Like in North America,
- 18:15so it could be Canada and America, but generally in the States, they
- 18:19just throw credit card debt, like, until it's
- 18:22just insurmountable. So that was happening to you had car debt, toy
- 18:26debt, which is side by side, credit card debt. And
- 18:30then, so how did you pay it off? I know that's the audience is thinking, how
- 18:36Well, obviously having you as a mentor and walking me through some strategies
- 18:43Do you think the strategy is complex? People
- 18:46are going to be, how do I pay credit card debt off? Well, first thing is, have an emergency fund
- 18:49so you don't get any more of it, look at your bank statements, and then start shifting
- 18:53the money from toys and other things into paying
- 18:57it off. What was it like? Did you think, I'm ever going
- 19:00to pay this off? Or did it feel like a struggle? Or did you do it
- 19:03quickly? Because you're able to earn money. So that's
- 19:07a big bonus. Because a lot of people I see, too, they go,
- 19:10I want to pay my debts off. And they're earning like a pittance, like $40,000 a year. I'm like,
- 19:14you need to make more money. Right? But you're already making enough
- 19:17money to do that. You're just sending it the wrong places. So once
- 19:20you shifted and started sending it, I think I remember the conversation we
- 19:23were having, like, I'm gonna pay, I forget what it was,
- 19:27and I'm like, well, you could pay all that off. It's almost like people
- 19:30don't realize, you mean I can pay it off now, I don't have to
- 19:37Yeah, we had, well, firstly,
- 19:40we had way too many vehicles. And so having a conversation with
- 19:44you and overcoming that we don't need to have, shifting that
- 19:47mindset, we don't need to have all the new things and all of these things.
- 19:51So we sold a vehicle, which ultimately gave us cash
- 19:55in our hand, which paid off our trailer, our
- 19:58motorhome. And so that
- 20:01was nice to have that. But yeah, just the strategy of being mindful of
- 20:05where my money went, knowing I had a goal that I
- 20:08wanted to reach, paying this off in two years, I did it in 17 months. but
- 20:13just sticking to that and devoting,
- 20:18Was it a bit like, it's a slippery slope. So when you were coming
- 20:21into more money, was it a very like challenging mental
- 20:25place to be? Like, were you having a fight mentally about, well,
- 20:28I'd like to get another car, or I'd like to do, and
- 20:35It was tricky. Yep. Because I, I seen the money, I
- 20:40could have spent it. So it was, it was hard not
- 20:43to spend it, but it's like, I don't know if anybody else
- 20:47that goes through your program, it's like when you go through Lloyd's program,
- 20:50it's like Lloyd's in your mind all the time. It's like, no
- 20:53matter if I went out shopping or if I was going to make a money decision online,
- 20:59Lloyd was always there, do you need this? Do
- 21:03you really need this? So that
- 21:07helped because obviously the habit wanted to
- 21:10be there to spend it, but I knew I finally had
- 21:13a financial goal that I wanted to reach. And I was disciplined in
- 21:22Because you had this, you've won bodybuilding competitions, you've
- 21:25got discipline in all these other areas. Relationships, relationships with
- 21:29your boys, and your body, and your health, and
- 21:33work. You have discipline. It's just not in
- 21:36that area. Yeah. So you did find that you're able to apply it,
- 21:42Once I had financial goals because I have goals in my health,
- 21:45I have goals in my relationship, but I never had goals financially.
- 21:49Got it. So it's not also about
- 21:53not spending, is it? Because you spend money still, but
- 21:56It goes to things that are purposeful and that are just going to
- 22:01So you're still a spender. That's
- 22:05why I think, too, I'm like, well, I'm a spender. I just spend a ton on
- 22:08income-producing activities. And I spend a ton on assets. And
- 22:12I spend a ton on experiences. And I expect, you
- 22:19Yeah. So it's not like toys and things that depreciate. It's actually things
- 22:22that appreciate. So as you said, you've spent $25,000 or
- 22:26whatever, probably less than that because it's grown, but on assets. You've
- 22:30now spent some money from your side hustle to come here. So
- 22:36In different areas. Things that are going to progress me forward,
- 22:45Marvelous. Excellent. So have you had slip ups along the
- 22:54Where? Just a little, like, where do you think you've had slip ups?
- 22:57Well, definitely. We needed it.
- 23:02A slip up of purchasing a vehicle. But
- 23:10So what'd you buy? Because I will never buy a vehicle on financing ever
- 23:19Right. So you set up some rules about your spending, right? So at least you did it. And I
- 23:22remember we had the conversation. You went, I just bought a Jeep. I'm like, you what?
- 23:26Like, I just bought a Jeep you like out of the commercial. I was like, why? Anyway,
- 23:38That's a good thing. And then what else? The other day, I wanted to talk about
- 23:41what happened the other day. You learned a lesson when you talked about how
- 23:46Oh, yes. So I got my emergency fund.
- 23:50It's sitting there. I never touch it. But our hot
- 23:53tub broke. And I'm like, oh, this is an emergency. I'm
- 23:58in Canada. We need this heated or else it's going to freeze. And I
- 24:02was all excited. I went and got the part
- 24:10And I remember saying, I don't think hot tubs are an emergency. And you're like, oh,
- 24:13I'm sure they are. In Canada, they are. But what you're saying, and you
- 24:16might be right here, is if you don't actually have your hot tub heated,
- 24:20the water will actually freeze in it and break it. So
- 24:24we could probably agree that if it wasn't fixed, it was going to break. But
- 24:28if it had of, it still would have been OK. Like it's
- 24:32safe broken for 20 years and it wouldn't probably impact your life. So
- 24:36where do you think now knowing that an emergency fund is really helpful for besides
- 24:46Right. So something where like, yeah, you that you need right now that
- 24:50you really need. Yeah. It's going to make a huge difference in the next day or two. Yeah. Right.
- 24:53So that's really more what it's for. However, you
- 24:57did have it there. You need to use it. And then what's
- 25:01next? You're going to replenish it, right? Yeah. Awesome. So you would
- 25:04have, how would you approach that before, before credit
- 25:12Fast, easy, accessible. And what's the knock-on effect
- 25:18You just keep doing it, and the interest. You're paying interest. You're growing
- 25:23Right. Yeah. Excellent. So you seem to
- 25:26have kind of drawn this line in the sand now, where you're not
- 25:30like a credit junkie where you're just spending money on credit card and personal loans
- 25:34for these depreciating assets. So that's definitely
- 25:37shifted. You've moved some money into building assets and
- 25:44My kids. I've been able to set aside over 15,000 for
- 25:50For, you know, whether to grow their
- 25:53investments. And so they have something for when I
- 25:59Yeah. And so how do you think their attitude has changed? Cause
- 26:08Sorry. The other way. Yeah. Gee, he was seven. Like the nine year old was seven and
- 26:12Okay. So you've got 12 and nine. And so how do you think they're, have
- 26:18Huh? You have no idea how much they've changed, especially my
- 26:21youngest one. So when I went through your program and on the lessons, he
- 26:25always sat in the room, not always, but the majority of the time he
- 26:28sat there and he literally took notes as you were speaking and
- 26:33he learned all my behaviors. He was a big spender. Soon
- 26:36as he got his allowance or as soon as he got money in his hand, he had to go to the store to
- 26:40Immediately all of it. Yeah, and then some well, yes what
- 26:44you do when you're nine Yeah, so him
- 26:48listening to you and seeing me going through the process myself
- 26:52He's nine. He started his own business He
- 27:01He bought his own 360 bucks go him. Yeah, nice and Yeah,
- 27:09Yeah, he gave me a gift the other day. He printed
- 27:13us this eagle, because we have another business with the team, which is called
- 27:16Team Eagle. And so he printed this eagle and a nice other thing. So two things,
- 27:20he gave us a gift. I was like, how did he do this? And he was like, he 3D printed it.
- 27:23I was like. And I was wondering how he bought it. So he saved the money and
- 27:30Well, now he has his little tracker where he tracks
- 27:34how much his things are worth so he knows what to sell them for. When
- 27:38he makes money, he replenishes it back into the business to buy more filament.
- 27:42So he's got that all set up and now he's saving up to
- 27:51So that's fantastic. So obviously you've had an impact on them, right?
- 27:55So this is flowing through to your boys, right?
- 27:59And I know that because I've spoken to it on the phone a couple of times. They come on to the call sometimes
- 28:04Yeah. So that's really great. So you're setting the example at home. And
- 28:11And it's even changed for my husband too because his behavior
- 28:15about needing, like he's got a different aspect around buying
- 28:18things. He doesn't buy things anymore. He used to, but he
- 28:22only buys things if it's going to appreciate in value. So
- 28:26like what I mean by that is buys something, fixes it up
- 28:30Oh, so it's just more thoughtful and intelligent. If
- 28:35I do this, then I can have both. I can have my thing and fix it and make
- 28:38money. So instead of a win-lose, it's a win-win. Awesome.
- 28:42I love it. Fantastic. And now, how did you get to Australia? How
- 28:46My side hustle. How did I? I flew here.
- 28:55Yeah, yeah. Swim. So you side hustle.
- 29:14And so tell us a little bit about the success there, how that's
- 29:17had an impact on your life. How is that? How
- 29:26So again, prior to meeting you, I was in so many different network marketing
- 29:30businesses, was never successful at all,
- 29:37I never believed in myself that I would actually be successful in
- 29:40it, but never having the roadmap, never having the
- 29:44guidance, never having someone backing me up is
- 29:49And now I've got the right mentorship. I've got the
- 29:53right system. I've got the right, community
- 29:57and since for last three years, since I started doing
- 30:01this business, I've not missed a week of pay. I've
- 30:10Okay, perfect. Now, I want to touch on There
- 30:15was a time there where you wanted to come to
- 30:19Australia because we have events here and you
- 30:22want to attend an event or you wanted to come out here, right? It's on your bucket list. So
- 30:26what changed in your mindset that got you here from
- 30:33Whatever I earned in my business went into an account to
- 30:38help me grow as a person to
- 30:43Right. Cause we had a conversation and you said to me, I'd like to go to Australia. I'm like, why
- 30:46don't you? And what
- 30:51I don't remember what I said back, but probably along the lines is I
- 30:59That conversation with you is what I earn in my business, put
- 31:05Got it. So what if the money you're earning on the side
- 31:08that's separate to your income, what if you just built that up to a separate account
- 31:12and it paid for the $2,000 to come to Australia? Plus
- 31:15a little bit of, like you can come here on the Canadian dollar and earn a little bit more because
- 31:19it's more valuable than the Australian dollar. And you can stay here for like
- 31:26It's not that much where I thought it was going to be a fortune to
- 31:29Yes. So we, you know, it's almost like we imprison
- 31:33ourselves in a story that's like, Oh, going to
- 31:36Australia is a long way. It's going to be so much.
- 31:40I have to have X, Y, Z before I can get
- 31:43there. Right. So you probably thinking in your mind, like I have to be so
- 31:47rich before I get to Australia. So when we had that conversation, I'm like, why
- 31:50don't you come? And you're like, oh, how can
- 31:59So diligently having a goal, which is to come to Australia, you
- 32:02knew then how much it was going to cost. You're like, oh, I looked at flights. They're not $10,000. They're
- 32:07like 50. Like to fly to America from Australia now, like I've been to
- 32:10a state three times this year. I'm pretty sure it's $1,400. It's just not
- 32:16your whole trip here was 3,000. And like, so, I mean, it's so achievable
- 32:21for someone to fly all halfway around the world. And
- 32:24now like today, I know you're gonna see kangaroos and koalas and
- 32:27all that cool stuff. You're gonna do that today, like after this episode. And so
- 32:30it's like, it's so close. But was
- 32:34it a mental, was it a personal growth experience to
- 32:39It was, it was a personal growth, like just to come here, to leave my
- 32:43family back at home. go through those emotions and jump
- 32:47on the plane. Oh my god, it's 14 and a half hours. Like, how
- 32:50am I going to manage that? That's so long on a plane. So that
- 32:53personal growth there and just being here is personal growth in
- 33:05Yep. when you said we had
- 33:08to do 10 steps in the TED talk at
- 33:12Okay, so we had an event the last couple of days and there's some things to do and it was
- 33:15more the aspect of speaking that was scaring a
- 33:18little bit. But like any point in time with your boys, like, mum, don't go, and
- 33:24Yeah, well, actually last year I wanted to come and I told my
- 33:27boys, my oldest son, he started crying. He's like, you're gonna
- 33:36So I decided not to go. I could have come last year, but
- 33:40I decided not to because the impact on him and seeing him
- 33:43cry. But this year having the conversation still,
- 33:48they didn't want me to go, but they
- 33:53Yeah. There you go. Okay. So you got through that.
- 33:57So you got through the financial obstacle of actually it's
- 34:01not that much. Actually, I will start a side hustle. Actually, I will save
- 34:04some money, which you did intentionally with
- 34:07the goal. And then it's the, I'm going to leave my kids and
- 34:15Yeah. And then you just ignored it to do this
- 34:19and now you're here. And so I just
- 34:23wanted you to unpack that a little bit because I do know that we've got even three
- 34:26of our other students are coming. There's a student coming in because we have a Mind & Money event
- 34:30this weekend that you're here for, right? So my friend Morgan and I run this
- 34:33three-day Mind & Money event. It's a breakthrough money event, right? And some
- 34:36of our listeners will have been to it. If you want to come to it, just go search
- 34:40Mind & Money on Google, come along, right? Yes, you've got to pay a ticket. But
- 34:44so you're here for that too. And we I
- 34:47know we've got like Burgess coming from Alaska. Alana is
- 34:51coming from New York. And it's the same conversation. Because
- 34:55it's like this. Well, I can't go there. And
- 34:58I've had the same things too. Like, there was a couple of times like I was wanting
- 35:01to see Warren Buffett at the Berkshire Hathaway meeting. And
- 35:05I could go. But I was like, Do
- 35:09I really want to get on three airplane flights and go to Omaha? Do I really want to? And
- 35:12you start to kind of just imprison yourself. And then you do need
- 35:15some guidance, right? So for me, it's Alicia. She's like, if you don't
- 35:19go, you're going to regret this. I was like, yeah, you're right.
- 35:22So sometimes you need that little bump, that encouragement. And sure enough, I
- 35:25went to the Berkshire Hathaway meeting. I've always wanted to go to it. I don't know why I never went. Because
- 35:29Charlie Munger died last year and I'm like, well if I don't go now, Warren's going to die. And Alicia said,
- 35:32if he dies, you're going to regret it. It's a
- 35:35weekend. It's like you fly 36 hours to spend four hours or
- 35:39eight hours on an event and then fly home. So I know what it's like. So
- 35:42that's when I see others create
- 35:46these fake barriers in
- 35:49their mind, like, I can't go. So the question is, well, why
- 35:53Yeah, I always had that block, like, I can't go to Australia. I've got family here. What
- 35:57if something happens? And all that negative self-talk just
- 36:01starts. It takes over, right? Yeah. And I even got extra insurance
- 36:04on my ticket just in case I had to cancel. Just in case you
- 36:08die? No, just in case I had to cancel my flight to come
- 36:12Oh, you're even setting up, like, just in case I've got to cancel,
- 36:23But you're here, so you must have burned them a little bit in your mind. Make the
- 36:26decision, move forward. Yeah. So what if you did? For our audience too,
- 36:29what if you just did it? And also, I
- 36:33do encounter folks who want to buy. So part
- 36:36of the big dream of a lot of people financially is I want to buy a house. Now,
- 36:40if you've been following me on social media, it's not always the most astute
- 36:44financial decision for everybody to buy a house. Folks
- 36:47do, and I get it. So my question to them is, which one are you
- 36:50buying? And they go, huh? Like, which one are you buying? What do
- 36:54you mean? I'm like, well, if you're going to buy a house, which one
- 36:57is it? How much is it? How much is the deposit? Where are we at? Because
- 37:01if there's no actual plan, it's a BS. delusional fantasy,
- 37:06right? So the same with Australia. Hey Mel, when
- 37:09are you coming to Australia? I'm going to come. When are you
- 37:12coming? What dates? What's the flight? Which airline? What's
- 37:16the price? Where are you staying? How much is it? What's
- 37:19the price? And you start to build
- 37:23it, which is what you did, right? Okay, well, I've got the flights and
- 37:26it's only this. Wow. And I'm staying here. Wow. And
- 37:36Now you're coming back. Now you're addicted to Australia. I'm coming back again.
- 37:39I'm coming back again. Because once you unpack that experience and
- 37:43you build that belief and you build that muscle and the files, you
- 37:46can reuse it again. So it's never going to be this hard again, is it? No. Same
- 37:52You've got everything set up. So now, what's life
- 37:56like now? And what advice
- 37:59would you give to someone who's in the old Melissa's position?
- 38:04Life now is absolutely incredible. I have no
- 38:07stress. I have financial peace. My
- 38:11family's happy. We got freedom. We got choice. It's
- 38:24Always have, but it's just at a different level now. It's like, I, I
- 38:29Okay. So what are some of the things you think you're going to do now that
- 38:36Travel more. Um, keep putting it
- 38:40back into myself, going to events, showing
- 38:57And you're also here for two events this week. So it's a busy, interesting,
- 39:04So OK, great. So you want to do more experiences with them. And who doesn't,
- 39:08I've never met a mom who goes, I don't want to spend less time with my kids and
- 39:15But I have the ability to do it now because I've got the structure in place on
- 39:21Perfect. Yeah. How to get there without being in debt. Do you think the
- 39:29The biggest shift. Yeah. Cause I will not be in debt again ever.
- 39:33That's a big line in the sand.
- 39:37I still have one credit card but that gets paid off every month. And
- 39:44Right, so you just kind of use it as a charge card, right? Build your credit rating, keep
- 39:51Awesome. Fantastic. So what would your advice be to others
- 39:54who are listening? Because part of the idea of bringing our students on,
- 39:57and you are also a part of our team too, so you've actually facilitated and
- 40:01helped. You're part of our education business team. So
- 40:04you are helping a lot of people start into our programs. So you see everyone.
- 40:08You see where they start, you see their breakthroughs, you see their results, right? But
- 40:11part of bringing them on and you on is
- 40:14to showcase real life everyday people just
- 40:18doing the basics and transforming things. Because I think when
- 40:22people say, oh, common sense with financing, what I think they mean is uncommon sense with financing.
- 40:25Because you weren't ever taught the rules of the game. So what
- 40:29would be your advice to someone who is listening? Perhaps they were
- 40:32in your same situation, or they are. What's the
- 40:36real juicy stuff you could give them? What
- 40:41just to stop living in old habits and to
- 40:44take action and that it is possible no matter where you're
- 40:47at, how deep you are in debt, how deep
- 40:52you are in, you know, uncontrolled finances, just to
- 40:55take the first step and take action and get, get help. Because
- 41:00I never would have been able to do it without your help. I
- 41:03would have never been able to turn the trajectory of my finances around
- 41:07without having someone there helping me through the process, someone
- 41:14So take action, take action, get help to understand the steps, get
- 41:17encouragement, get support, and then do it. And
- 41:23overcome the fears, right? What do you
- 41:26think it is that stops people, though, taking the action
- 41:31I think it's the fear. The fear of the unknowing, the fear of
- 41:36What do you think is the story they're telling themselves when the fear takes over?
- 41:46What do you think would happen if they think it's too hard and it's too much?
- 41:57Yeah. And what's the underlying, just to finish up, what's
- 42:01the underlying most important trait? Because we've
- 42:05had hundreds and thousands of students come through, right? And
- 42:09so what have you seen is the number one trait that
- 42:13they have? Because everyone starts, like people don't
- 42:17want a transformation if they're already happy with where they're at.
- 42:21There has to be some level of confusion, pain, like
- 42:24I'm stuck and I know that, like an awareness too, now
- 42:28I'm ready. But what underlying trait that all
- 42:31those students have that has been the one thing that's
- 42:34helped them to get to the other side, from hell to
- 42:38living in paradise, you know, financial peace, from crisis to
- 42:42I think it's their investing in themselves. They're
- 42:48But what's the trait of the students that do and
- 42:52get results compared to those that don't? What's the underlying trait? What's
- 42:55the behavior trait? What's the thing that they've got that others don't? Well,
- 43:02It means that they're open to receive coaching. They're open to receive
- 43:10And they surrender to it. So they don't say, yeah, I already know
- 43:14this. I already know that. Yeah, but, yeah, but, yeah, but, yeah. And they just, yeah, butt themselves
- 43:17into a hole, right? So they're open and coachable. And
- 43:21anything else that they do that you've seen, because they do that one
- 43:27They draw the line in the sand, they burn the bows, they say, and that's it. But all of our
- 43:30students you see, the ones that win, what do they do that others don't? What
- 43:33do you say to them when they start? No matter what happens, do this one
- 43:42Yeah, if you show up, you're gonna get
- 43:45the result. If you show up and lean in, what's
- 43:51Yeah. It's like easy not to do, easy to do. It's
- 43:55like, if I don't show up, I can't get the juice. If I show up, I get the juice. And
- 43:58the more you show up... the more you want to show up. This is like
- 44:04Because the more you show up, the results are going to start happening, and it's
- 44:09Yes, momentum. They start to get momentum. Yeah, and you see that,
- 44:14Yeah, you see it in our students, but you see it probably in bodybuilding. There's
- 44:18people that don't make it to the stage. There's people that don't make it to the gym.
- 44:22There's people that don't make it to Australia. There's people that don't make it to the call. There's
- 44:25people that don't make it. And once
- 44:28they don't show up once, then the thoughtfulness and the
- 44:31new story of... And it
- 44:35also self-perpetuates backwards. So if
- 44:39you could give our audience one piece of advice, what
- 44:46Take action, show up. And then... Then
- 44:49the result happens. Over time the results start to begin, yeah? And
- 44:53be patient. And be patient. Because why do you say that?
- 44:57Because it's not overnight success. Nothing in life is overnight success.
- 45:07So when you go to the gym for the first time, did you walk out with muscles? Nope. So
- 45:16You can try, but every time you go and try and make money quickly, it blows up in your face,
- 45:19right? Yeah. Yeah. Excellent. Fantastic. So have you enjoyed
- 45:26I didn't die. Any
- 45:41Wonderful. Well, here's for our audience. Thanks for coming to the studio. You come all the way
