• 0:31
[laughs] Hey, everybody. Hey... it's Full Spectrum Cycling. [laughs] Big drop. [upbeat music] [laughs] We're, we're up here on top of the hill at Reservoir Park for the- Top of the hill, no beer, damn it...
• 0:41
Riverwest 24 [laughs] bike racey thing in, in Riverwest Milwaukee, Wisconsin.
• 0:48
This is the first, uh, batch of victims for the checkpoint, and what we're doing today is, uh, have a couple folks sitting here at the microphones as guests, and then the peanut gallery out there. Hello, peanut gallery.
• 1:02
Hello. Hydrating and, uh- Woo-hoo... and doing a good job out there. You dropped your sticker. Oh. Bingo. Guest number one to my, to my pointing at you guy. What's your name, sir? My name is Jeff Scanlon.
• 1:13
Jeff Scanlon, ladies and gentlemen, and we also have... Zach Zeigler. All right, Zach. Uh, Zach, how many years have you been doing the 24? This is my first real 24. Right on. Nice. Right on.
• 1:25
How are you enjoying it so far? I'm having a blast. I'm very tired. Yes. [laughs] We should note it's 4:00 AM. It is 4:00 AM. Yeah, that was probably- I took a 90-minute catnap and here I am.
• 1:36
Excellent, and Jeffrey, this is not your first, uh, trip to the rodeo? No. This is probably the seventh or eighth time being a participant on the grounds, and my third time being a formal runner of it. Awesome, awesome.
• 1:49
Nice. How is, how's your experience so far? Uh, tonight's been pretty great. I already got my volunteering out of the way. Uh, I'm getting my second wind, waiting for sunrise here. It's- Yeah...
• 1:58
we'll be all right through the rest of this. 14 hours to go. And 13. How many, how many laps have you burned through so far? Uh, I'm on my 10th. Nicey nice.
• 2:05
Okay, s- yeah, you're, you're setting my pace, so I can only do half. [laughs] So I can only be as half as good. That's JK everybody. That's my, that's my idea on every of this. Zach, what about you lapse-wise?
• 2:17
This is my personal fifth. I think our team is on 39. Wow. Oh. Wow. All right. All right. Wow, you're- Although I did just wake up... that's what you get when you have a team... so they might have been lying to me.
• 2:27
  All right.
• 2:27
So the, the final thing we're gonna do here is have each of you reach into the, the skull of knowledge there and, and pull out a question, and you're gonna ask your, your cohort there the question, and we'll see how this works out.
• 2:39
All right. From the... Are we- We ask each other the same questions? No, there'll be- Oh, no. You're just- There'll, there'll be random questions. All right. Definitely. I'm gonna ask Jeff.
• 2:46
Jeff, uh, Zach is gonna go first. Jeff, what is your greatest skill? We were literally saying this. [whistles] Ooh, that's a Jack Handy Deep Thought one there, huh? [laughs] Oh, man. Are you- Um...
• 3:02
Not answering questions on the fly. Yeah. No, I think- [laughs] I think, uh- Your-... a twist on that.
• 3:08
Uh, my greatest ability or my greatest skill is probably the ability to relate and connect to people instantly of all kinds of different walks of life. I, I have a, a, I have ability well. Kinda like a chameleon.
• 3:21
Yeah, a little. Social chameleon. Social chameleon. All right. And then- And what's yours for Zach, Jeff? So Zach, what word best describes the way you've spent the last month of your life? Uh, chaotic.
• 3:35
It's been a chaotic couple month. [laughs] What'd you do leading up to the 24? I was directing a four-week summer camp. We put on a whole musical in four weeks with middle schoolers, and it was just- That sounds chaotic.
• 3:49
Yeah, it was designed to fail. Totally. It was designed to be insane, and we pulled it off. All right. All right. Well, thanks very much for checking in with us.
• 3:58
Uh, your checkpoint check-off is waiting for you behind us, I think. Somebody's got the manifest and stuff back there. And you can bring your questions with you as well. Oh, take your questions with you. Yeah.
• 4:06
Yeah, we don't necessarily wanna ask the same ones again. I spent all day- [laughs]... cutting them on a little shredder thing, so yes, everyone take one. Well, this is a great bonus. Thank you, guys. [laughs] Yeah.
• 4:15
[laughs] Great, guys. Very funny. Thanks, Zach and Jeff. Thank you. Thank, thank you audience for participating as well. Welcome. Yes. Thank you for the group therapy session.
• 4:21
This is the way we get more people through here, so you guys can, uh, keep up, keep on your way. All right, that's group number one, folks.
• 4:28
We're gonna take a little break and get some more folks, uh, uh, queued up and, uh, do it again. Um, you are... What number are you, sir? Uh... You're 225. You're on there?
• 4:39
[upbeat music] Would you consider this house music maybe? Sure. It's not a- Gold. I'm not sure about that, but it's... All right. All right.
• 4:50
Hey, everybody, we're back here at the- My speaker was providing the, uh, feedback. Oh, yeah... that's why. Yeah, that was good. You could, like, bring it closer and further away. Yeah, yeah.
• 4:59
Hey, we're, uh, we're here at the Riverwest 24 Radio Radio checkpoint. Little after 4:00 in the morning.
• 5:05
We got our second group of, uh, riders here who are staring up at the stars and whatnot, but we wrangled two of them in to be on the show. My name's Sven. This is JK. Hello. Hello. And, uh, who do we have to my right?
• 5:19
Hey, guys. This is Nick. Nick and? Another JK. Jenna. Another Jenna JK. Nice. Right on. Right on. Jenna, how many years have you done the Riverwest 24? This is only my second year. All right.
• 5:30
How is it going this year so far? Absolutely amazing. Isn't the weather beautiful? The weather is perfect. This is perfect. Could not be a better night for the weather. And you, sir? Uh, this is my seventh year. Okay.
• 5:41
Right on. Yeah. Are you soloing or are you on a team? No, a team of six. Cool. Yeah. How's that going? How many laps you guys got in? Uh, probably like eight at this point. [laughs] Good, good. Good.
• 5:53
But we've been distracted with all the bonus checkpoints and, uh- Fair enough. Yep. Yep. But we're at 10. Is that right? Oh, we're on 10. Oh, sweet.
• 6:00
[laughs] Yeah, this year there's double the number of checkpoints of previous years. There's 48 checkpoints this year instead of 24. Oh. So you got your work cut out for you. Yeah.
• 6:10
So, uh, what we're gonna do with you guys is just have each one of you reach into the, the skull of knowledge there on the bottom and, uh, pull out a question.
• 6:19
Or you could just take one that pops out the bottom and we're just gonna have you guys ask each other the question and, and then- It's like a Pez dispenser... you're the interviewer and the interviewee. All right. Okay.
• 6:29
You wanna go first? Yeah. Your question- Dennis first... when you... Are you ready for it? I'm ready. Okay. When you close your eyes, what do you see? He's actually doing it, folks. I'm seeing a lot of blinking lights.
• 6:42
[laughs] [laughs] However, there's like 20 antennas with blinking lights right in front of me. [laughs] Yeah. So probably the echo of that. Nice. Yeah, a little late- [laughs]... little late imaging. Yeah.
• 6:53
[laughs] It's all the TV towers up the... It's actually a pretty good view of them. It is. All right. Yeah. Awesome. All right. You set? Yep. All right. In what way are you your own worst enemy? Ooh, that's deep. Ooh.
• 7:07
Oh my gosh. Yeah, I didn't know we were getting into psych- You're asking me to answer this at 4:00 in the morning?... psychology. [laughs] JK is responsible for the questions. I don't even...
• 7:14
[laughs] I, like, I don't even know if I even heard it. Um... [laughs] Um, probably
• 7:22
I take my thoughts, uh, at their word, and that's probably not the best thing to do, so maybe a little more emotional sometimes than I need to be. Right on. Right on. Okay. Well, thanks for sharing. Yeah. Thank you guys.
• 7:37
Thank you. All right. Hey, audience, you've been terrific. Thank you very much. Woo! [clapping] [laughs] Shout out, Al. Thank you for being the group therapy session, everybody. [laughs] All right.
• 7:45
Well, uh, you guys can go collect your rewards for the checkpoint- Yeah... and, uh, enjoy the rest of the 24. You two- Awesome. Thank you. Yeah. [laughs] Yep, have fun.
• 7:53
We're going to wrangle another batch of suckers, I mean, uh, guests. [laughs] We'll be back. So we're here. Hi again. Haven't seen you in a few checkpoints. Well, yeah, I took a nap, so. I did not.
• 8:08
30-minute nap, took like good bit of coffee, and then, uh- I apologize for this interview in advance. [laughs] We're all words, words might fail us. [laughs] We'll forge forward valiantly. All right, everybody.
• 8:23
Uh, Full Spectrum Cycling Podcast is back here up on the hill at Reservoir Park. This is our third group of participants today so far, and we have two new guests. Uh, to my right is... Lauren. Lauren, and...
• 8:39
Anthony Costagrande. Hi, Anthony. This is JK. Hey, hey. What is the clever team names or solo names? Uh, I am the Scrumptious Pansy. [laughs] It almost sounds like a, it almost sounds like a Helium Hotspot name. I mean,
• 8:55
could be, could be, could be both. My team name is Face Paint. If you were here and this was a video podcast, it would be quite obvious. [laughs] Team Face Paint. How many years have you done the Riverwest 24?
• 9:09
I think this is my fifth year solo, and I've ridden on a team three or four or something times. Well, you must like it. How's it going this year? This is, it's rough right now. The, the 2:00 to 4:30 hours are hard.
• 9:23
Are you doing it completely without sleep? That is correct. All right. All right. [laughs] Anthony, how about you? Yeah. Also solo. I've been doing, uh, the 24...
• 9:31
I moved here in 2016 and have done it every year since pandemic, you know, 2020 year notwithstanding. Right, right. Yeah, right. Yep, I don't think that would've been interrupted but for the grace of God.
• 9:42
[laughs] I think some people needed a break, but seeing how some folks have come out now, I'm not sure. You know, they have two years' worth of aggression. [laughs] Scrambling. How, how is it out there?
• 9:52
I, we just, uh, have been touring around a little bit, but not really actively being in the midst of it. What's, uh, what's the sentiment on the road?
• 10:01
Well, you guys, Lauren, you've maybe- I notice that a lot of people can ride really fast. [laughs] Yeah. Sent- sentiment is Lycra heavy at the moment unfortunately.
• 10:10
Uh, I think some people are just trying to get in the checkpoints as quickly as possible and not really savoring the com- neighborhood like I think that was intended to be. Right. Sure.
• 10:21
Yeah, we don't have any real Lycra clad folks in the, even in the audience this time. Well, on- [laughs] I mean, it's just... Yeah. All right.
• 10:31
So w- uh, what we have in front of you guys is the, the head of knowledge or what- Yeah, there you go...
• 10:35
I don't know if we have an actual name for it, but if each one of you would reach inside, it's glass too, so it's got a little heft to it, but grab a question, and we're gonna have each of you ask the other a question that you have pulled out of the, the skull of cranium of knowledge.
• 10:48
Oh, this is... And then the rest are spectators. Yeah. So, uh, Lauren, give Anthony a shot first. Let's see how this goes. What could society do without? And then a random question out of... Wow. Hmm.
• 11:01
[laughs] That's- That's a big question. [laughs] Right. [laughs] It looks like are we doing a university lecture here or what? Yeah, this is, this is a difficult one. Let's just, uh, let's say- [laughs]...
• 11:12
investment bankers. All right. Hmm. All right. I can get behind that. Yeah. Treasure the bankers. All right, Anthony. Uh, Lauren, what is your favorite sound?
• 11:21
The sound of 200 rabbits munching on freshly, a fresh area of grass. That's amazing. I've never seen 200 rabbits. I w- I just saw one, one of you, so we, we need 199 more. I saw one over there on the other side.
• 11:33
They're, they're hiding in the bushes. [laughs] Right on. Right on. Well, thanks very much for being guests on the show. You all, including guests and, uh, participants and also audience may collect your, your reward.
• 11:46
Thank you, gentlemen. Thank you. Yeah, thanks very much. Thank you. Thank you. Thank you. Thank you. All right. Hey, we'll be back with, uh, with another group here in just a little bit. Thanks, folks. Oh, no.
• 11:58
Hey, everybody. We're back here at, uh, Riverwest 24 bonus checkpoint, Radio Radio On Top of Reservoir Park. [laughs] Well, we've r- hey, we're actually audience-less for this one. [laughs] Yeah. Yeah.
• 12:13
No, that's why I'm making the noise. Oh, thank you. [laughs] Right on. Right on. So we have two new guests. Get your hand. Uh, to my right, and I...
• 12:20
When we were getting ready at the, uh, riders meeting, I took some photos of you 'cause he's got a really cool- [laughs]... uh, outfit on. Uh- [laughs]... costume or riding apparel. What's your name, sir?
• 12:31
Uh, my name is Remy. How's it going? Remy. And we have also? My name's John. John. Are you guys riding together? No. We are now. Yeah. [laughs] Yeah. Yeah. There you go. [laughs] That's how this works. Yeah.
• 12:42
Remy, how many years have you done the 24? Uh, I think this is my sixth year, although in, uh, 2020, I was doing it on my own because COVID. Right. Right. Yeah, that was kind of a grim year, wasn't it? Yeah.
• 12:55
And you, sir, how many years have you done- Uh, this is my first year doing it. Hell yeah, man. Oh, right on. Welcome. Yeah. How are you liking it so far? It's good. I- I'm having a lot of fun, to be honest.
• 13:04
It's more fun than I anticipated. [laughs] Have you, have you had a nap yet, or are you just powering through this? Um, I took a break for two hours, but I'm, I'm almost done, though. Right on. We have a team.
• 13:15
[laughs] Oh, cool. So you're just gonna do your bit and then head on down the road? Yeah. And what is the clever names on the teams? Of the teams. Um, Well Lubricated. [laughs] It's pretty good. Nice.
• 13:27
Uh, mine's Ride Hard Jill Harder. Nice. Nice. Awesome. Awesome. All right. Well, let's, uh, get the Head of Knowledge into this.
• 13:33
It's a, it's a glass, so it's a little, got a little heft to it, but you could, uh- Oh, I see. I see. I see...
• 13:38
pull, pull, pull a, a, a question out of the bottom and, uh, then each of you, Remy, you can ask question, and then vice versa, and, uh, let's see how this goes. All right.
• 13:48
Well, um- We've had some pretty interesting questions so far. [laughs] That's really in-... Yeah, okay. When you think of home, what specifically do you think of?
• 13:58
Um, I think, I mean, of my childhood home, and then I think of more or less now being with family.
• 14:04
Uh, we moved out of that childhood home, or my mom sold it, uh, probably about five years ago, and so she lives kind of towards my brother. But any time, um, I'm with family, that's more or less when I consider it home.
• 14:17
That is a- Good specific answer, man... yeah, very good. Almost rehearsed. [laughs] I know that. What is the most enjoyable thing you have done in the last three years? Oh, my God. Uh... Oh, wow.
• 14:32
That's a, that's a hard question. [laughs] But, um, I don't know. Uh, well, not to be corny, but, but falling in love with somebody who I think is, like, a, actually a great fucking person, and- Nice...
• 14:43
it's been a [laughs] hell of a lot of fun. That's- Um... very solid. Awesome. Yeah. It... Yeah. I, I, I won't go into the details, but they're fun. [laughs] Yeah. All right. So what...
• 14:53
Y- y- you've done a bunch of checkpoints already, Remy. What do you... I- is there one that stood out, like, oh, that was really cool? Um, actually, there have been a lot of really good ones this year. Uh,
• 15:04
I'm not gonna steal yours. Uh, uh- [laughs] Yeah... uh, I, I did like the, the Girl Rock one, um, because it was, uh, sing lyrics from, uh, the...
• 15:14
Sing the chorus of a song that is, uh, a female sing- uh, singer-songwriter, or not singer-songwriter. She's a singer.
• 15:22
And I couldn't choose, but my friend who [laughs] unfortunately is, uh, out sick a little bit right now and resting, uh, he started singing Alanis Morissette. Um, and I, I was like, "Oh, hell yeah.
• 15:35
That's a great choice." And we just, I just jumped in with him. Had a great fucking time. Awesome. Nice. What about you? Um, well, I liked the one that was you had to make up your own rap.
• 15:47
So you went into some guy's garage, then you had, like... It was, like, well themed, too. Yep. You had the car, and the, the young kid was like, "All right. We're looking for the new star."
• 15:57
And then he's like, "Here's your contract"- Little producer... as he passed you the car. [laughs] It was, it was pretty cool. It seemed so intimidating at first, and then it just was, like, really, really fucking fun.
• 16:05
Yeah. [laughs] It was fun watching people try to do it, too. [laughs] That was the best part. Oh, yeah. Awesome. All right, guys. Well, thanks for being on the show. Thanks so much.
• 16:12
Uh, you can collect your reward from Tony back there or whomever is taking care of manifests and whatnot, and appreciate it. Have a good rest of the 24. Yeah. Thanks a lot, guys. Thanks for having us. Right on.
• 16:23
[clapping] Yeah. This is great stuff. [upbeat music] All right. All right.
• 16:40
Hey, we're here at the River West 24 bonus checkpoint called Radio Radio. This is Full Spectrum Cycling. And we're into our second half hour now. We have our first couple of guests here to my right.
• 16:52
Uh, tell us your name, gentlemen. My name's Chris. We got Chris. My name is Aaron. Aaron's got a cool Giannis shirt on. [laughs] Go Bucs. Right. Right? Okay. So, um, you guys have been, uh, doing the 24. Have you...
• 17:07
Tell, tell me how many times you've done the 24. This is my first year doing the 24. All right. So what's your impression so far? I love it. Um, I wish I would've registered so I got a manifestation, but it's okay.
• 17:19
I'm just doing all the bonuses. Um, I had got four bonuses earlier, then I had to leave for work 'cause I have to be there at 9:00, and then I came back at, like, probably 2:45, and I'm here till, uh, the end. Right on.
• 17:33
Sounds good. Oh, I see Swiss Miss back there. So what's up, Wood? [laughs] Hey, guys. Chris, how many times have you done this? Aaron. Oh, Aaron, sorry. Uh, this is my first time also, so just...
• 17:46
I've done a few of the challenges, but I've been just, like, doing the, um, just the laps. Um, having a lot of fun doing it. Nice. What are, what are you guys' team names? Aaron? Uh, I gotta ask my buddy, Matt, that.
• 18:00
He kinda forgot his, the team name. Oh, okay. [laughs] The Not So Instant Replay. What is it? The Not So Instant Replay. Not So Instant Replay. [laughs] All right. So it's Chris, then? Oh, I don't have a team.
• 18:13
I'm doing solo. Oh, right. You're just, uh, out there doing the bonus checkpoints. Yeah. But you could come up with one. Right. Boom.
• 18:18
Well, this year is they're doing something new in that you don't have to be a registered rider to do the bonus checkpoints, so that's something different for 2022. All right, guys.
• 18:28
Well, you can see the, uh, head of knowledge in front of you there. Uh, we're gonna ask each one of you to grab a question out of the head, and then we're gonna have you ask the other fellow the question.
• 18:37
[laughs] Oh, yeah. So just, uh, pick her up and grab one right from the bottom. It's like... Yeah, there we go. It's not a very intuitive fishbowl, but- Yeah, it, it looked cool. Yeah.
• 18:46
[laughs] Looks really, looks really neat. [laughs] I was like, "Hey, I got a thing. It's a human head." [laughs] I'm like, "Okay, problem solved." We got it now.
• 18:56
All right, uh, Aaron has the, the first question out of the, out of the head, so give, give... Here, I'll take it for you. Uh, ask Chris away. Uh- Do you celebrate the things you do have? She's well ahead of her.
• 19:14
[laughs] As in, like- [laughs] These, these questions are pretty, pretty far reaching. [laughs] Thought provoking. Like- Yeah, like-... my possessions that I have at home, like the things I've bought and worked hard for?
• 19:31
Or, like, people and everything in my life? It, any- Oh, yeah. Yeah, it does. 100%. All of it does, yes. [laughs] Right. Sweet. Uh, you wanna go ahead and ask Aaron now? All right.
• 19:43
What is the most recent dream you remember having while sleeping? Uh-oh. Ooh. Can, can we, can we talk about that one? [laughs] Yeah. Well, it wasn't a wet dream. [laughs] Ah, shit. Uh, you know, it's probably...
• 20:01
It was, uh, just one of those, like, real cool, like, chill days. Mm-hmm. Just on the beach hanging out with my dog, you know, just- Right on Nice... just one of those kinda, you know- Do-... chill, relaxed days...
• 20:13
do you do that in real life, too? Yeah. Yeah. Just kind of- Yeah, I w-... dreams imitating life? Yeah. I go, I, I'll go to, uh, Grant Park, let my dog run around the shoreline. I'll bust out my hammock. Cool.
• 20:25
Just, you know, chilling. How's the water level down there? Is it still real high, or is it- Oh, it's, it's real low. Oh, good. Well, that's good- Oh, yeah...
• 20:32
'cause we used to ride our fat bikes on that beach down there. Yeah. With all those baby head rocks down there. Oh, yeah. [laughs] All right, guys. Well, thanks for being guests on the show. Woo.
• 20:41
And, uh, you can go back and grab your, uh, uh, rewards from- All the winnings... whom, whomever's back there doing that. Thank you. All right. Thank you.
• 20:49
Uh, in- including audience members, you may also de- You all win... depart with rewards in- Very Oprah-y... 2020. Awesome. [laughs] We're gonna... We'll, we'll be back with more fun- Fun and foolery...
• 21:00
fu- fun foolery in a minute. [laughs] A pleasure. Thank you, guys. Thanks. All right. Hey, we're back here at the River West 24 Bonus Checkpoint Radio Radio.
• 21:09
We're on top of the Reservoir Park hill, and we've got a new batch of, uh, victims to talk to. Or, or have be audience participant members. Uh, I have two people next to me. Let's, uh, get a name, please, to my right.
• 21:24
Is this my River West 24 name or my actual name? Well, we'll, we'll- Both... actual name and- Uh, my name is Samara. Samara, all right. And? My name is Matt. All right, Matt. It's good to have you guys on the show.
• 21:38
Uh, Samara, h- how many years have you done the 24? Uh, this is my third year. Right on. How's it going this year? Um, it's good. I'm tired, but that's okay. It's 4:00 AM. Yeah. Lightheaded almost.
• 21:49
Well, I can see the sun just starting to wanna make an appearance- Just cresting... pretty soon. Cresting, cresting. Probably another half hour or something. Matt, how, how lo- how many times have you done this?
• 21:57
This is year number one. Year number one. Nice. Woo. Yeah. Yeah. Virgin. [laughs] How are you enjoying it? It's been a lot of fun so far. You doing a lot of checkpoints?
• 22:06
A lot of checkpoints, a lot of hours in front of us. [laughs] I, somebody was, uh, uh, uh, uh, saying something about you spitting. Now, did you do the hip hop one? Uh-huh. You got a record deal and everything? I did.
• 22:15
Nice. [laughs] I got a record deal following up tomorrow. Awesome. [laughs] Cool. Uh, well, what we're gonna do for you guys is just, uh, have you reach into the head of knowledge over there.
• 22:27
Through, it's through the bottom. It's kinda, kinda weird- Yeah. But if you'd each grab a question, we're gonna have you ask the other person the question.
• 22:35
Samara, you can ask Matt first, and we'll see, uh, see, uh, see if any of these questions are- Uh, Matt... pulling the crowd out of the- What stands between you and happiness? Uh. Next checkpoint, 12 more hours.
• 22:50
[laughs] Yeah. [laughs] 12 more hours. However many more hours are left, yeah. [laughs] Yeah, right on. All right. What is your fondest memory from the past three years? Oh, that's really difficult. Um- Specific number.

Yeah, three, not five. Not two, but three. Um- The last three years of the River West 24. Oh, I, I think the fondest memory, um, of the last three years is being, um, with my sister and brother-in-law in, um,
• 23:21
w- they have a place in Austria, and we go s- um, s- skiing there. But the most fun thing is, is we go on these, uh, things. It's, like, called the Roba Bon, and it's, like, these kinda toboggans.
• 23:31
They're kinda scary, but, um, I think my fondest memory is I got my sister and my brother-in-law, um, the sleds, and they were so excited and so happy that it just, like, made me so happy.
• 23:42
So I think that was my fondest memory. Well, it's a good one. Right. Good answer. Aaron. Austria, I think, gets a lot of, uh, people good memories, for sure. All right, guys. Well, thanks for being on the show.
