- 0:46Speaker 4: Hello everyone, Okay, stop, welcome. You are dressed like a
- 0:53Speaker 4: Jehovah's witness today.
- 0:54Speaker 3: Yes.
- 0:54Speaker 5: I was actually hoping we could sit down and talk.
- 0:57Speaker 3: I'm ready to convert. Yeah good, Yeah, I'm ready to
- 1:00Speaker 3: find Jesus.
- 1:01Speaker 5: Yeah.
- 1:01Speaker 6: It was funny you walked out to open the door
- 1:03Speaker 6: for me, and I thought we could not be further
- 1:05Speaker 6: apart in terms of how we're dressed.
- 1:07Speaker 4: Yeah, Usually it's the other way around. Usually I'm quite
- 1:10Speaker 4: well equipped.
- 1:11Speaker 5: What's going on around here? It seems like it's a
- 1:13Speaker 5: little grim in the radio world.
- 1:14Speaker 4: Have you noticed the lights are out? Basically now looks
- 1:18Speaker 4: like a cryptocurrency office has been raided.
- 1:20Speaker 6: I take your clothes off you when you come in.
- 1:22Speaker 6: They're like, no, no, we're going to sell that. You're
- 1:24Speaker 6: going to wear this now?
- 1:25Speaker 3: Yes, yes, put on this smock. This is how.
- 1:30Speaker 5: We're close out for the day.
- 1:31Speaker 4: So you've got your polo top on, You've got your
- 1:33Speaker 4: bloody roll Ex terrible band.
- 1:36Speaker 3: You really should look at something else? Yes, anything?
- 1:40Speaker 5: Have you been?
- 1:42Speaker 3: Have you hopped in anything interesting lately? Because here's my thing.
- 1:46Speaker 3: There is nothing.
- 1:47Speaker 4: I I am not that excited by anything coming out
- 1:51Speaker 4: at the moment. Yeah.
- 1:52Speaker 6: So I'll be taking off for the Tokyo Motor Show
- 1:55Speaker 6: next week. Okay, so hopefully there's some exciting stuff going
- 1:58Speaker 6: on there. We're hopefully going to see the new high Lux.
- 2:00Speaker 6: We'll have some details on that soon. But I was
- 2:03Speaker 6: actually at gwm's tech day to David tech Day at
- 2:08Speaker 6: the proving ground and I had a chance to drive
- 2:11Speaker 6: a couple of interesting things. So part of what g
- 2:13Speaker 6: WM's doing in Australia, they've employed Rob Triviani, who's their
- 2:16Speaker 6: former who is the former ride and handling boss for Holden,
- 2:20Speaker 6: and he's been working furiously away and we obviously see
- 2:23Speaker 6: him at the proven ground when we're filming doing stuff.
- 2:25Speaker 6: And I finally had a chance to drive one of
- 2:27Speaker 6: his projects, which was a new sort of ride tune
- 2:31Speaker 6: for the H six plug in Hybrid.
- 2:32Speaker 3: That's cool.
- 2:33Speaker 4: So he's the guy who's kind of responsible for tuning
- 2:35Speaker 4: these cars to Australian conditions and he's.
- 2:38Speaker 6: Done a good job. It is fantastic. It's like night
- 2:40Speaker 6: and day in terms of the Chinese tune versus his tune.
- 2:42Speaker 3: So what is this you're talking about?
- 2:44Speaker 6: So it was the ride in handling tune for the
- 2:46Speaker 6: H six plug in Hybrid. So that's been available for
- 2:49Speaker 6: a little while in like a Coupei swoop back type trim,
- 2:53Speaker 6: but now it's like the normal suv shape.
- 2:55Speaker 3: Oh yeah, the Age six Yeah yeah, yeah, that's like
- 2:58Speaker 3: a GT version.
- 3:00Speaker 6: Yeah, this is just the normal one. So it's still
- 3:01Speaker 6: zero to one hundred and like four point seven seconds.
- 3:03Speaker 6: We actually published a drag race where we drag race
- 3:06Speaker 6: the niss and Z the ad E S five e Vant.
- 3:09Speaker 6: One of our employees his WRXSTI and Tesla motte Y
- 3:14Speaker 6: and it was pretty impressive to see how quick it was.
- 3:16Speaker 6: But during the tech day, actually let us have a
- 3:18Speaker 6: drive of two things. One is the GWM Tank seven hundred.
- 3:22Speaker 3: Yeah, I heard about this.
- 3:23Speaker 6: This mean it's like a Rolls Royce like it's it's
- 3:27Speaker 6: basically a Rolls Royce that's off road capable, so air suspension,
- 3:31Speaker 6: front and rear, diff lock, center diff lock, plug in
- 3:33Speaker 6: hybrid with a twin turbo petrol V six and like
- 3:37Speaker 6: a thirty seven killer at our battery.
- 3:38Speaker 5: So it is this.
- 3:39Speaker 6: Enormous package and inside it is high end luxury stuff.
- 3:44Speaker 6: It is an impressive thing. So they haven't confirmed it's
- 3:46Speaker 6: coming to Australia yet, but that car is about one
- 3:49Speaker 6: hundred thousand dollars in China, so if it did come
- 3:51Speaker 6: to Australia, we're talking about one hundred thousand dollars proposition.
- 3:54Speaker 6: Last time we're at the Shanghai Motor Show, they announced
- 3:56Speaker 6: they're doing a V eight. They're producing vight, so.
- 3:59Speaker 3: Still that it wasn't that on the tank three hundred though, Yeah.
- 4:02Speaker 5: But I think it was like a concept thing.
- 4:05Speaker 6: I reckon they would stick it in the tank seven
- 4:06Speaker 6: hundred because it's due for a life cycle replacement.
- 4:09Speaker 5: So exciting stuff there. There was also they want to.
- 4:12Speaker 6: Launch the Way brand in Australia and they had a
- 4:14Speaker 6: people mover and this thing was unreal. It's got in
- 4:17Speaker 6: the second row, you've got captain's chairs with massaging, reclined heating, cooling,
- 4:21Speaker 6: a big screen that flips down from the centa. You've
- 4:24Speaker 6: got three screens ahead of the driver. And this is
- 4:26Speaker 6: another like five seconds zero to one hundred car. It's
- 4:31Speaker 6: just amazing what is available in China that we don't
- 4:34Speaker 6: have in Australia. Because this is another car that's about
- 4:36Speaker 6: the sort of eighty thousand dollar mark, but equivalent Lexus
- 4:39Speaker 6: in the LM is like a two hundred and fifty
- 4:41Speaker 6: thousand dollar car. So to think that you can get this,
- 4:44Speaker 6: which is much faster, much more luxurious, I just think
- 4:49Speaker 6: that there's potential for some of these cars to sell
- 4:51Speaker 6: pretty impressively.
- 4:52Speaker 4: Remember when we got news of the BMW seven series,
- 4:57Speaker 4: and I remember when that came out, like the the
- 5:00Speaker 4: screen came out for the second row.
- 5:01Speaker 3: We were like, holy shit, look at that. That's amazing.
- 5:05Speaker 4: Now, Nah, China are like, hold my bier did somebody
- 5:09Speaker 4: say massage, seeds and.
- 5:11Speaker 3: A blow job to all we got you got.
- 5:14Speaker 5: Your covered daarlly?
- 5:15Speaker 6: Yeah, but yeah, and even by d they're bringing out the.
- 5:19Speaker 5: One two, the Sea Lion. This is the thing. I've
- 5:22Speaker 5: lost track of all their cars.
- 5:23Speaker 6: But the two that I'm interested in, the Denzas, the
- 5:26Speaker 6: B six and the B eight, I think they are.
- 5:28Speaker 6: They're basically like the Shark, but with front rear diff
- 5:32Speaker 6: locks and off road capable, so.
- 5:34Speaker 5: There is It is really confusing.
- 5:36Speaker 3: Part of the reason, did you say the Shark is
- 5:38Speaker 3: now off road capable?
- 5:39Speaker 4: No?
- 5:39Speaker 6: No, no, but that's what it should have been. But this
- 5:41Speaker 6: is like the same sort of drive train, but with
- 5:43Speaker 6: actual stuff in it. Part of the reason I'm so
- 5:46Speaker 6: dressed up today is we did our upfronts, and the
- 5:49Speaker 6: upfront so were basically we pitched to advertisers to advertise
- 5:53Speaker 6: with us.
- 5:53Speaker 3: But you beg them for money. You hold out your
- 5:55Speaker 3: little hands and.
- 5:56Speaker 7: Please please give me a little bit of last. I'm
- 6:00Speaker 7: just a poor boy on YouTube pointing to the cup
- 6:04Speaker 7: holders with my girometer. I had to sleep with a
- 6:10Speaker 7: big fat woman in regional Victorian just.
- 6:13Speaker 5: To fill up my electric car. Please, That's basically that.
- 6:19Speaker 6: But part of the research that we did for the
- 6:23Speaker 6: Upfronts is looking at how many cars are on sale.
- 6:26Speaker 6: So at the moment, there are over four hundred models
- 6:29Speaker 6: available in Australia and that is just models. Each of
- 6:32Speaker 6: those models will have variants. There's potentially thousands of variants
- 6:36Speaker 6: on sale. You imagine how confusing it is for a
- 6:38Speaker 6: consumer when someone like BYD goes, oh, well, I've got
- 6:40Speaker 6: six new things coming. Then you got like thirty other
- 6:44Speaker 6: Chinese brands that are coming soon as well, half of
- 6:46Speaker 6: which you've never heard of. So it is becoming a
- 6:49Speaker 6: confusing space. And part of the thing I could see
- 6:52Speaker 6: in this room of advertisers is traditional car brands they're
- 6:55Speaker 6: getting a little bit concerned because it's not as easy
- 6:59Speaker 6: as just pulling the ad lever and spending more on
- 7:01Speaker 6: TV and doing all this sort of stuff. It's now
- 7:05Speaker 6: a case of well, people are now just looking at price.
- 7:07Speaker 6: That is one of the part of the research that
- 7:09Speaker 6: we did with Nielsen. It was like an interview of
- 7:12Speaker 6: a thousand people and one of the biggest drivers is
- 7:14Speaker 6: price and where the car is manufactured. We've done this
- 7:19Speaker 6: same survey over the past three years. Where the cars
- 7:21Speaker 6: manufactured is becoming less of a concern for most buyers.
- 7:25Speaker 6: So that's telling you that price is a factor. They
- 7:27Speaker 6: don't care where it's made, which means why would I
- 7:30Speaker 6: go and buy a Masda or a Toyota or.
- 7:33Speaker 4: Some other he's expensive and legacy brands. You know, I
- 7:36Speaker 4: think we're going to be a very interesting test case
- 7:39Speaker 4: because you look at the state of Australia with these
- 7:42Speaker 4: car brands coming in, thousands and thousands of them, and
- 7:45Speaker 4: we're already We'll talk about Toyota later on, but if
- 7:48Speaker 4: you look at a brand like Toyota, we're already pretty
- 7:52Speaker 4: We get a generous amount of different models, say, from
- 7:54Speaker 4: a lot of different brands.
- 7:56Speaker 3: So you kind of look at us and right now
- 7:59Speaker 3: where we're.
- 8:00Speaker 4: About to be engulfed by all these different brands, more
- 8:04Speaker 4: than probably most countries in the world. And it'll be
- 8:07Speaker 4: interesting to see watch this space in a couple of
- 8:09Speaker 4: years time to see how we perform. Yeah, I mean
- 8:12Speaker 4: at her market. Have a look at Mitsubishi.
- 8:14Speaker 6: They've just replaced the Ax with Reno. Yeah, that's like
- 8:18Speaker 6: fifteen thousand dollars more expensive. So Mitsubishi used to be
- 8:22Speaker 6: about value and good warranty coverage.
- 8:25Speaker 3: They've got any performance, like in terms of like they
- 8:27Speaker 3: were that's dead now. Yeah, they were.
- 8:29Speaker 4: Coming out with solid cars, but I mean the Trenton
- 8:32Speaker 4: just hasn't matched.
- 8:33Speaker 6: And you look at this this Ax that they've launched
- 8:36Speaker 6: and it's outrageously overpriced. Yes it's got a warranty, but
- 8:40Speaker 6: it's just a reno basically.
- 8:42Speaker 3: Come on, it's got two tone. Yeah.
- 8:44Speaker 6: I just I'm just like, what do you stand for now?
- 8:47Speaker 6: Just another brand? You're not competing with anyone with that car.
- 8:50Speaker 6: So I just think we're going to see some of
- 8:52Speaker 6: these brands, legacy brands really starting to hurt. They're going
- 8:55Speaker 6: to really start deteriorating in terms of their offering and
- 8:58Speaker 6: how competitive they are because people just no longer give
- 9:00Speaker 6: a shit whether they're buying a Chinese car or not.
- 9:02Speaker 6: They just want value for money.
- 9:03Speaker 8: Yeah.
- 9:04Speaker 4: Speaking of which value for money, you see Tesla's trimming
- 9:07Speaker 4: down their bits and pieces.
- 9:09Speaker 5: I don't hate it.
- 9:11Speaker 4: Yeah, look I get it, but also you're taking away
- 9:16Speaker 4: the coolest bits of the car just to make it cheaper.
- 9:19Speaker 4: Like I know, it's like useless, but I'm saying like, visually,
- 9:22Speaker 4: you've got a boring car to start with. You look
- 9:25Speaker 4: at say the light bar in the back that's gone. However,
- 9:28Speaker 4: I think I know the stalk has been there set.
- 9:31Speaker 6: They've taken the screen out from the back, which is
- 9:33Speaker 6: the most useless feed. Yes, yeah, I agree with that,
- 9:36Speaker 6: but the roof is weird, so I could take or
- 9:39Speaker 6: leave the glass roof because it just makes the cabin
- 9:41Speaker 6: too hot.
- 9:41Speaker 5: That they haven't figured that out.
- 9:42Speaker 4: Yet and a lot of people will get like after
- 9:44Speaker 4: market shades for those.
- 9:45Speaker 6: Anyway, what they've done now is they've kept the glass
- 9:48Speaker 6: on the outside but put like a fishing roof inside.
- 9:51Speaker 5: What the fuck? Why would you not just put.
- 9:53Speaker 4: It reminds me of those sketchy shops where you're just like,
- 9:56Speaker 4: what's going on there? They put aluminum foil behind the
- 9:58Speaker 4: glass that.
- 9:59Speaker 5: I don't get. It's like, remove the glass that I'd
- 10:01Speaker 5: be happy with that there's no drama. Yeah, and then
- 10:03Speaker 5: the cloth seats.
- 10:05Speaker 6: It's like, ah, come on, let's just take it easy
- 10:07Speaker 6: because you're removing the cooling seats, which is one of
- 10:10Speaker 6: the great things they actually added. So this isn't coming
- 10:12Speaker 6: to Australia. These cut price cars are just for the US.
- 10:15Speaker 6: Oh okay, but I think there is a price cut
- 10:18Speaker 6: on the horizon in Australia. I've been saying this for
- 10:20Speaker 6: a little while, but before their last sprint last quarter
- 10:23Speaker 6: they had three thousand dollars off Model three and Model Y.
- 10:26Speaker 6: They had further discounts on previous generation cars that were
- 10:29Speaker 6: in inventory, something like fourteen thousand dollars off. So I
- 10:33Speaker 6: think that we're going to see a further reduction in pricing,
- 10:36Speaker 6: which you know, I think is is just due to
- 10:39Speaker 6: the competition in the market. They can no longer move
- 10:42Speaker 6: the volume they are moving at the price that they're
- 10:43Speaker 6: moving it at. So I think we're going to see
- 10:45Speaker 6: reductions there as competition increases. And I'm all for it
- 10:49Speaker 6: because I want to buy it another model hy But
- 10:52Speaker 6: I'm certain, yeah, I'm certain there's a little reduction around
- 10:54Speaker 6: the corner. So it's going to hold out just a
- 10:56Speaker 6: little bit longer to see what happens closer to the
- 10:58Speaker 6: end of this quarter.
- 10:59Speaker 3: And to pop my name down EV price drop. I
- 11:02Speaker 3: can't believe you're jumping back in.
- 11:03Speaker 4: Tesla EV price drops, right. I know there's one on
- 11:07Speaker 4: the Cherry the yng day insta, Oh my god, that's
- 11:10Speaker 4: what we haven't talked about.
- 11:11Speaker 6: The Hynda Institut that didn't wasn't successful at the outrageous
- 11:14Speaker 6: price they launched it.
- 11:15Speaker 3: That's forty three thousand dollars.
- 11:17Speaker 5: That's so weird. That must be a mistake.
- 11:19Speaker 3: Now under forty thousand dollars.
- 11:20Speaker 5: But did you see the Ionic six. They virtually are yeah,
- 11:24Speaker 5: we will give.
- 11:25Speaker 6: You money if you just come and take this away
- 11:27Speaker 6: from the dealership. But they're all twenty three cars.
- 11:29Speaker 4: They've gone from seventy seven thousand, five hundred to under
- 11:32Speaker 4: fifty thousand with that one.
- 11:34Speaker 6: That is importantly for anyone listening, that is any twenty
- 11:37Speaker 6: three car. It is you're driving a car with a
- 11:39Speaker 6: battery that has been sitting dormant effectively for the.
- 11:43Speaker 5: Past two or three years. And I don't know, I
- 11:46Speaker 5: love that. Well, those cars are brand new. It could
- 11:49Speaker 5: have been sitting there.
- 11:50Speaker 6: Yeah, it's not like someone's driving them and charging them. Well,
- 11:53Speaker 6: I don't think they're driving them and charging them frequently,
- 11:55Speaker 6: so I'd be concerned about it.
- 11:57Speaker 3: Would that be current?
- 11:57Speaker 4: But yeah, would that be covered by some sort of
- 11:59Speaker 4: warrant to be a way of finding that stuff out?
- 12:02Speaker 6: Sure it is, but a warranty, you know for a
- 12:05Speaker 6: battery is typically eight years.
- 12:08Speaker 3: I don't know. Poster two from sixty eight to fifty five.
- 12:12Speaker 3: The still expensive that's.
- 12:14Speaker 4: Gone from sixty to a far out forty seven thousand dollars.
- 12:17Speaker 4: The ID four by Volkswagen has gone from a sixty
- 12:20Speaker 4: five thousand dollar car.
- 12:21Speaker 3: To sixty two. That's nothing tight ass.
- 12:25Speaker 4: I like that little in stuff, but it is it
- 12:28Speaker 4: is on the prices side. I think they're doing the
- 12:30Speaker 4: right thing by putting it under forty thousand. And I
- 12:32Speaker 4: also think the best one to get is the most
- 12:34Speaker 4: expensive one to get of that one, which was like
- 12:37Speaker 4: they kind of put this.
- 12:38Speaker 3: Roof rack thing on it. It's just a style for me.
- 12:40Speaker 6: It's just like, look you look at the Addo one
- 12:43Speaker 6: and two. Yeah, I mean they are probably going to
- 12:47Speaker 6: be in the twenties. Yep, we're going to start in
- 12:49Speaker 6: the twenties. So why on earth would you pay almost
- 12:51Speaker 6: double that?
- 12:51Speaker 4: And that'll sell a packet of those? How much is
- 12:53Speaker 4: the how much is the Model three now?
- 12:56Speaker 6: I think it's fifty mid fifties plus on roads?
- 13:01Speaker 3: Yeah, starting see.
- 13:03Speaker 4: I know, like the Ionic six, for instance, has a
- 13:05Speaker 4: lot of people going there.
- 13:06Speaker 3: I don't like that car.
- 13:07Speaker 4: I personally like love parts of it and hate parts
- 13:09Speaker 4: of it, But I mean that's now under fifty thousand dollars.
- 13:12Speaker 5: That's the thing.
- 13:13Speaker 6: If you're not concerned about the way that it looks,
- 13:15Speaker 6: which is the reason it's not selling.
- 13:16Speaker 5: It is a good value car at that.
- 13:18Speaker 6: Which a great drive. It's a great dri drive. Yeah,
- 13:22Speaker 6: the infertainment system sucks a bit. It's a bit sort
- 13:24Speaker 6: of lag in crap. But if you need value for money,
- 13:27Speaker 6: you get the FBT exemption if you do it on
- 13:29Speaker 6: a Novate at least, so there's value to be happy.
- 13:32Speaker 3: Hmmm, what else were we going to talk about? Oh?
- 13:35Speaker 5: Yes, the FJ.
- 13:38Speaker 3: Yeah, the baby land Cruiser.
- 13:40Speaker 5: This is interesting because it's been rumored for ages.
- 13:43Speaker 4: And ages and do you know what can I ask you?
- 13:46Speaker 4: When they first dropped the designs of it, and we
- 13:49Speaker 4: know the popularity of the Toyota FJ here was huge.
- 13:54Speaker 4: When you saw the designs, did you think that was
- 13:56Speaker 4: a true FJ.
- 13:58Speaker 3: Oh?
- 13:58Speaker 5: I thought it was a true FG that you're FJ
- 14:01Speaker 5: that your mother would love.
- 14:03Speaker 3: What does that mean?
- 14:05Speaker 5: I just think it's a bit It should come with
- 14:07Speaker 5: a handbag.
- 14:08Speaker 4: Oh yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, they're sad about it. It's
- 14:11Speaker 4: more of a baby land cruiser. But the thing is
- 14:13Speaker 4: about this car is yeah, I don't think they should
- 14:16Speaker 4: be calling it and linking it to the FJ. But yeah, interesting, small,
- 14:20Speaker 4: chunky four point six meters long. Am I right in
- 14:23Speaker 4: saying they've put a bloody old little.
- 14:25Speaker 3: Engine in that thing? Like it's four point seven Toyota.
- 14:28Speaker 3: It's like it's like a petrol from the HIGHLUKX. Yeah, yeah,
- 14:32Speaker 3: but it's was it also from that what's that one
- 14:34Speaker 3: that I saw in Bloody Thailands? Yeah?
- 14:36Speaker 5: It dates back to the prehistoric ages A chap.
- 14:40Speaker 3: Yeah, it's from the chair.
- 14:41Speaker 6: But it's an engine that you wouldn't wish upon your
- 14:44Speaker 6: worst enemy. And given this will be light, maybe it's
- 14:47Speaker 6: not that bad. But Toyota must have a stockpile of
- 14:50Speaker 6: millions of irrelevant engines because they just keep sticking them
- 14:53Speaker 6: in cars and rolling cars over with the two point
- 14:55Speaker 6: eight liter diesel, I mean, one hundred and twenty kilowats
- 14:58Speaker 6: of power two hundred and forty six meters of talk gutlet.
- 15:02Speaker 5: But so is the Jymney. So this is all ye're
- 15:04Speaker 5: going to try and compete with.
- 15:05Speaker 4: But it sort of stands in the line. I've got
- 15:07Speaker 4: that here, Jimney. What's that reno bloody feather duster thing?
- 15:10Speaker 4: Would you put this next to the tank three hundred?
- 15:13Speaker 5: God?
- 15:13Speaker 6: No, okay, tank three hundred is way bigger than this,
- 15:15Speaker 6: But okay, this is a lot more modern inside than
- 15:17Speaker 6: a Jimney.
- 15:18Speaker 3: Yeah, yes, oh god.
- 15:20Speaker 4: I was I'm trying to convince my wife for us
- 15:22Speaker 4: to get a Jymney. And I took her in and
- 15:26Speaker 4: I drove the auto, and I was like, hey, it's fine,
- 15:29Speaker 4: it's fine, but I'm like, I want the manual, like
- 15:31Speaker 4: I want.
- 15:32Speaker 3: To strip back as like basic as you can get.
- 15:35Speaker 4: So I took her and the kid in the manual
- 15:37Speaker 4: Jimney and she just said, I feel like this is unsafe.
- 15:41Speaker 4: Are we driving a tin can. I'm like, yes, we are.
- 15:44Speaker 3: Shut up.
- 15:45Speaker 4: Yeah, it doesn't do hills, but just be you know,
- 15:48Speaker 4: I won't do over about one hundred and ten hundred
- 15:50Speaker 4: and twenty on.
- 15:50Speaker 3: The highway either.
- 15:51Speaker 4: But yeah, this baby land Cruiser I keep calling it.
- 15:55Speaker 4: It's sort of roughly from what I can work out,
- 15:58Speaker 4: sort of sits between all Across and a RAV four size.
- 16:03Speaker 6: It's not coming to Australia. We should probably point that out.
- 16:05Speaker 6: Australia has said at this stage it's not coming. They
- 16:08Speaker 6: might just pull the cat out of the bag at
- 16:10Speaker 6: some point. But Australia's got a unique issue because of
- 16:12Speaker 6: this Envers nonsense. They're having to basically trim back on
- 16:16Speaker 6: stuff that isn't electric and it means something like this,
- 16:19Speaker 6: which goes against all the hybrids they sell. They're just
- 16:22Speaker 6: not going to bother selling it because it'd have to
- 16:24Speaker 6: be expensive, doesn't help them meet any Envez targets, so
- 16:27Speaker 6: they just won't bring it.
- 16:28Speaker 3: So is that truly the reason why?
- 16:30Speaker 5: Absolutely?
- 16:31Speaker 4: Because here's here's my thought. I looked at it and
- 16:33Speaker 4: I go, it's a part time forward drive. It's got
- 16:35Speaker 4: some sort of forward drive bits and pieces. It's got
- 16:37Speaker 4: like a real diff lock I think on it. It's
- 16:40Speaker 4: got some stuff. A lot of journals are coming out
- 16:42Speaker 4: going toyotas lying they're going to bring it out, and
- 16:45Speaker 4: I thought that would be such a peculiar lie to tell.
- 16:47Speaker 5: I mean, why would you bother?
- 16:49Speaker 4: Yeah, I kind of think we are. We do get
- 16:51Speaker 4: a lot of land cruisers here, we get all of.
- 16:54Speaker 6: Us them compete with anything, so it's not like you
- 16:57Speaker 6: announcing it. You're not going to sell rab falls all
- 16:59Speaker 6: of a sudden, which is typically why a car company
- 17:02Speaker 6: will hold back talking about a product which is why
- 17:04Speaker 6: Kias started talking about the Tasman two years ago, because
- 17:06Speaker 6: it doesn't compete with anything else they sell. This is
- 17:09Speaker 6: the same if it was coming, they would have just
- 17:11Speaker 6: said it's coming, so they might surprise us and say, hey,
- 17:13Speaker 6: we're bringing it, But ultimately it just goes against their
- 17:17Speaker 6: targets for envies.
- 17:19Speaker 5: Because they're kind of screwed. They sell a lot of
- 17:21Speaker 5: diesel cars.
- 17:22Speaker 6: You look at their whole range, it is all diesels
- 17:25Speaker 6: and hybrids. So if you go to Hilux, Land Cruiser,
- 17:30Speaker 6: Prato seventy series, all diesel, you're offsetting it with some
- 17:34Speaker 6: hybrid products with.
- 17:35Speaker 5: RAV four and the smaller vehicles.
- 17:37Speaker 6: You can't then just come in and bring this which
- 17:39Speaker 6: doesn't really meet any of that objective for hybridization.
- 17:43Speaker 4: I also feel like maybe this could be a little
- 17:46Speaker 4: bit shit because because if they're not going to bring
- 17:51Speaker 4: in here, I mean, we get a lot of as
- 17:53Speaker 4: I said, we get a lot of different toyotas, we
- 17:55Speaker 4: get a lot of we get the bloody gr which
- 17:58Speaker 4: doesn't really get seen outside Japan. March. I kind of
- 18:01Speaker 4: feel like maybe they don't want to bring it here
- 18:03Speaker 4: because it's not as good as people want it to be.
- 18:06Speaker 5: Or it may not be as safe.
- 18:07Speaker 6: If you look at the K cars they sell in Japan,
- 18:10Speaker 6: a lot of them, you can't really buy them here
- 18:13Speaker 6: because you hit anything, it would just completely collapse around you. Yeah,
- 18:19Speaker 6: so I wonder if this is more designed to compete
- 18:21Speaker 6: with Japanese market cars like K cars, where perhaps safety
- 18:24Speaker 6: is and as important.
- 18:25Speaker 4: Are you excited about an ev Ferrari Absolutely not, And
- 18:30Speaker 4: yeah it's weird.
- 18:31Speaker 6: My colleague Elbows, who have had on the show before,
- 18:34Speaker 6: he was over at the reveal they did for the
- 18:37Speaker 6: battery system, and Ferrari made all of these claims about
- 18:40Speaker 6: how it's the most energy dance battery in the world,
- 18:42Speaker 6: and how it's the most power dense battery in the world,
- 18:45Speaker 6: and I kind of just ran some of the figures
- 18:47Speaker 6: they claim through GPT and from what I could tell,
- 18:49Speaker 6: China already sells stuff that's more energy dance, which confused me.
- 18:54Speaker 5: So I don't know.
- 18:55Speaker 6: With Ferrari, when they release a product, they try and
- 18:58Speaker 6: be the best at it where where it's you know,
- 19:00Speaker 6: you look at the SF ninety. It is unbelievably fast,
- 19:03Speaker 6: it goes around track, it does everything right.
- 19:06Speaker 3: When they release a car, it's a supercar icon an electric.
- 19:11Speaker 6: Car, you have the ability to be outdone by a
- 19:15Speaker 6: Chinese car company, where the Chinese car company won't focus
- 19:19Speaker 6: as much on handling and we'll just have a car
- 19:21Speaker 6: that goes faster in a straight line.
- 19:22Speaker 5: So what's Ferrari got been.
- 19:23Speaker 4: Well, they've got two motors, they've got two point five seconds,
- 19:26Speaker 4: and they've got a badge.
- 19:27Speaker 6: But yeah, but it's like, okay, great fast in a
- 19:29Speaker 6: straight line. It's not going to handle particularly well because
- 19:32Speaker 6: it is very heavy. It's got one hundred and overwhell
- 19:34Speaker 6: over one hundred killow what our battery. So it's going
- 19:36Speaker 6: to handle like a bit of a dog because you
- 19:38Speaker 6: cannot make a car that heavy handle.
- 19:41Speaker 5: So what is the point? And I just don't get
- 19:44Speaker 5: that part.
- 19:44Speaker 4: I think options are the end of the day. Would
- 19:47Speaker 4: they be under some sort of scrutiny with the European
- 19:50Speaker 4: emission targe.
- 19:51Speaker 5: Yeah, they are a little bit.
- 19:52Speaker 6: But my understanding was that some of those lower volume
- 19:54Speaker 6: manufacturers are exempt. But there is a chance that pure
- 19:58Speaker 6: sung way you're moving into SUVs, that's pushing them up
- 20:01Speaker 6: through a volume threshold. But you look at the factory,
- 20:06Speaker 6: the factory, it's a bit of a masterpiece because You've
- 20:09Speaker 6: got this amazing production line for V twelves, You've got
- 20:11Speaker 6: the V six production line as well, but it is
- 20:13Speaker 6: all about internal combustion. You're now going to have to
- 20:16Speaker 6: roll out brand new factory, You're going to have to
- 20:19Speaker 6: roll out brand new architecture, brand new technology.
- 20:22Speaker 5: The resale value of plug in hybrid Ferraris is absolutely shit.
- 20:27Speaker 6: No one wants secondhand s F nine is secondhand two
- 20:30Speaker 6: nine sixers.
- 20:32Speaker 5: Just no one wants that sort of stuff.
- 20:33Speaker 6: So I just fear that this type of thing, and
- 20:36Speaker 6: they're already setting it up. One of the stories that
- 20:39Speaker 6: Obols wrote was about how Ferrari wants to stop people
- 20:42Speaker 6: sort of selling production slots and reselling their cars for profit.
- 20:47Speaker 6: And I think they're saying that because a lot of
- 20:49Speaker 6: the cars they're producing today are just not reselling for
- 20:51Speaker 6: profit unless it's a super niche model that is just
- 20:55Speaker 6: internal combustion.
- 20:56Speaker 4: It's interesting, you know, like we've got a lot cars
- 21:00Speaker 4: are now doing it, Like the portion of carn is
- 21:02Speaker 4: now ev that's.
- 21:03Speaker 5: A well, that was a disaster diaster.
- 21:06Speaker 4: The tour rag is is that on my own saying
- 21:08Speaker 4: that's discontinued and they're moving that to an ev A
- 21:11Speaker 4: lot of that sort of space has been taken up
- 21:14Speaker 4: by evs. I mean, it's kind of cool that people
- 21:16Speaker 4: have options now, but oh geez.
- 21:18Speaker 6: Yeah, it's fine to have options, but don't take away
- 21:21Speaker 6: what people want.
- 21:22Speaker 5: Yeah, and I mean I keep saying this. If you
- 21:24Speaker 5: want to buy an EV, go buy an EV.
- 21:27Speaker 6: But if I don't want to buy one or it
- 21:28Speaker 6: doesn't suit my lifestyle, don't force me to buy it.
- 21:31Speaker 5: By forcing people to buy it.
- 21:32Speaker 6: They resent this, and I really just I don't understand
- 21:38Speaker 6: the logic behind it. And you're already saying that a
- 21:40Speaker 6: lot of companies are backflipping on promises for going full
- 21:43Speaker 6: EV because they just don't have the customer base for it.
- 21:46Speaker 6: People just do not care and are not interested in
- 21:48Speaker 6: a lot of cases, I.
- 21:50Speaker 3: Want a bit social.
- 21:52Speaker 4: Recently went to a car event o, a Deuce slash
- 21:58Speaker 4: Mini event excellent Genesis. No, I don't have the Genesis.
- 22:03Speaker 4: Got the MG still the MG five s EV. Oh,
- 22:07Speaker 4: by the way, you want a quick update, I'm about
- 22:09Speaker 4: to hand that back. I've always been completely honest about
- 22:12Speaker 4: these that that's been a pretty good car.
- 22:14Speaker 3: Like it's been.
- 22:15Speaker 4: I've raved on about the tech it's starts, some of
- 22:17Speaker 4: the tech. I've had to kind of go, hey, this guys, guys,
- 22:20Speaker 4: this one needs a bit of a look at, because
- 22:22Speaker 4: it's starting to revert back to being it never it
- 22:25Speaker 4: never was, but it's starting to kind of become very annoying.
- 22:29Speaker 4: It's starting to tell me like things like, hey, focus
- 22:32Speaker 4: on the road, focus on the road.
- 22:34Speaker 3: I'm like, I am looking straight ahead. I'm fine, there's
- 22:38Speaker 3: nothing wrong.
- 22:39Speaker 4: And so I'm starting to turn stuff off, and I'm like, guys,
- 22:41Speaker 4: can It would be usually the sort of thing where
- 22:45Speaker 4: if I was bringing it in for a service, I'd go, can.
- 22:49Speaker 3: We look at this because that's not accurate?
- 22:51Speaker 5: But I can't figure it. That's the problem.
- 22:52Speaker 6: And I actually, since we last spoke, I'd drive that car,
- 22:55Speaker 6: OKAYES five, and I found the safety stuff annoying.
- 22:59Speaker 5: Every single drive up. I'd set the custom that star
- 23:02Speaker 5: button to just turn it all.
- 23:04Speaker 4: Off, yes, which you can, which look, That's what I
- 23:06Speaker 4: enjoyed about it because you can.
- 23:08Speaker 3: You can do that and like save it all so
- 23:10Speaker 3: when you just get in, you've got to just push
- 23:12Speaker 3: that button. It's all gone.
- 23:13Speaker 6: But in terms of the other negatives, car play couldn't
- 23:16Speaker 6: it kept dropping out, I couldn't reacon it. It was so frustrating,
- 23:20Speaker 6: incredibly frustrating. But probably the biggest thing for me is
- 23:23Speaker 6: how inefficient it is. It uses so much power, like
- 23:27Speaker 6: it's averaging. When I had it, I did probably eight
- 23:30Speaker 6: hundred cars, did a lot of driving in it. I
- 23:32Speaker 6: was aver doing between eighteen and twenty one kill what
- 23:34Speaker 6: hours per hundred k's, which for a car with such
- 23:37Speaker 6: a small battery is absurdly inefficient. Positive though, it was
- 23:42Speaker 6: pleasant to drive, like it's real drive, it's sort of
- 23:44Speaker 6: it's got that fun factor to it. It's got room inside,
- 23:48Speaker 6: it's inoffensive to look at.
- 23:49Speaker 3: Yeah, interiors rolls out pretty well.
- 23:52Speaker 5: How many cas are you getting out of a charge?
- 23:53Speaker 4: Probably about It's hard to say. I generally, as a
- 23:56Speaker 4: general rule, charge it once every two weeks, and I'm
- 24:00Speaker 4: by the way, I'm putting it on the bloody granny
- 24:02Speaker 4: charger like the thing in the wall, So I just
- 24:04Speaker 4: kind of know I'm barely going to use it on
- 24:06Speaker 4: a Sunday, use that day and a half to kind
- 24:08Speaker 4: of just fill the thing up. And look, it's getting
- 24:11Speaker 4: me around town easily without even thinking about it. It's
- 24:14Speaker 4: getting me to work and back, it's getting me out
- 24:16Speaker 4: to ride to pick up the kid and do groceries
- 24:18Speaker 4: and do all that sort of stuff out that way.
- 24:20Speaker 5: Like it's what is your average? Text it to me later,
- 24:23Speaker 5: So i'd be curious to see you look at it.
- 24:25Speaker 6: And then the other thing I'm curious about as well,
- 24:28Speaker 6: is are you driving the a bigger battery version of
- 24:31Speaker 6: the small battery version.
- 24:31Speaker 3: That's a good question. I feel like I'm driving. I know.
- 24:34Speaker 4: When I charge it, it's weird because I'm like, oh,
- 24:37Speaker 4: I claimed that was saying for over four hundred kilometers,
- 24:40Speaker 4: like say, four hundred and twelve, and I think I'm
- 24:42Speaker 4: getting about three ninety yeap, three eighty three ninety yep,
- 24:46Speaker 4: So that's a bit how's it going, mate? But yeah,
- 24:51Speaker 4: look I get around Towner doing all the things I
- 24:54Speaker 4: need to do. I think it looks really good. I
- 24:56Speaker 4: think the interior has been good. I think all in all,
- 24:59Speaker 4: it's been a good car. It's just of late in
- 25:02Speaker 4: the last week or two, some of the electronics on
- 25:04Speaker 4: it are starting to play funny buggers.
- 25:07Speaker 3: And usually it'd be something i'd take.
- 25:09Speaker 4: In for a service, as I said, but I'm just like, hey, guys,
- 25:11Speaker 4: let's swap it around. So I think I'm getting the
- 25:13Speaker 4: QS which is a big eight seed or something. Yeah,
- 25:16Speaker 4: big ass car, so that'd be fun. And then summer drives.
- 25:19Speaker 4: Oh you know what I was thinking we should do?
- 25:21Speaker 4: We should do next episode. Let's do like the top
- 25:25Speaker 4: five fun best road trip fun summer cars. Let's just
- 25:31Speaker 4: get a bit, you know, went to my mini launch
- 25:33Speaker 4: through a cabrolelet.
- 25:34Speaker 3: Yeah, let's do that. What was there?
- 25:36Speaker 5: Tell me?
- 25:37Speaker 4: It's basically there was. They've got an EV of the
- 25:40Speaker 4: Mini Cooper s and it's been given the Deuce kind
- 25:43Speaker 4: of treatment.
- 25:44Speaker 3: Which is a fashion brand.
- 25:46Speaker 4: And they do do motorcycles and stuff.
- 25:48Speaker 3: You wouldn't know. You've really need to overhaul.
- 25:55Speaker 6: I haven't ridden a fat boy before. Isn't is that
- 25:57Speaker 6: a motorcycle? I know you're quite fond of them.
- 26:00Speaker 3: As a fat boy myself.
- 26:03Speaker 4: I can tell you right now, Jesus daughter wouldn't mind
- 26:06Speaker 4: to go in the bloody Mini if she could. She
- 26:07Speaker 4: actually sat around the mini and she literally engulfed me.
- 26:12Speaker 4: Have you heard from Donna lately?
- 26:14Speaker 5: No? I haven't. Actually why not? She wasn't allowed back
- 26:18Speaker 5: into the KFC.
- 26:19Speaker 3: Oh really yeah? Yeah yeah yeah.
- 26:22Speaker 5: Through a piece of chicken at someone.
- 26:25Speaker 4: I thought it was chicken, but I remember seeing her
- 26:28Speaker 4: at that time at the at the Hen's Night, she
- 26:31Speaker 4: literally had one entire bucket over each tit just don't
- 26:35Speaker 4: ask as she was keeping the chicken wall. I know
- 26:39Speaker 4: these finger looking good, that's for sure. Needed a couple
- 26:42Speaker 4: of refresher towels for that job.
- 26:47Speaker 5: I'm sorry, Matte. Can we just hold for a second,
- 26:49Speaker 5: just going to get this. Hello, this is Paul speaking.
- 26:52Speaker 3: Yeah, I have a Kentucky in the box and family.
- 26:59Speaker 5: We were literally just talking about you.
- 27:02Speaker 8: I just got some fucking potato and gravy in me
- 27:04Speaker 8: belly button.
- 27:05Speaker 5: I am jealous.
- 27:08Speaker 8: Yeah, I wouldn't mind some of fucking potato and Pavely's
- 27:11Speaker 8: baby gravy and me belly button. That's for sure, Hetty,
- 27:16Speaker 8: as as her commercial.
- 27:18Speaker 3: Or grain doll.
- 27:19Speaker 8: And it's time for Donna's Word of the day. Thanks
- 27:25Speaker 8: to Dobby. Thanks to Dobbie, Donna.
- 27:32Speaker 5: Each time we talk, you sound more and more like Gordon.
- 27:35Speaker 5: It's so weird.
- 27:36Speaker 8: I don't send anything like that bloody puff to shut
- 27:39Speaker 8: up badly stoody offensive to poor old Donna. Now it's time.
- 27:44Speaker 3: For Donna's words. You're on the second.
- 27:53Speaker 8: I'm in the bloody k s a kitchen just looking
- 27:56Speaker 8: for some extra talents and the one of me tids
- 27:58Speaker 8: dropped on the deep right.
- 28:00Speaker 3: Oh Jesus cross, that's a sizzle.
- 28:04Speaker 8: Are you ready for Donner's word of the day? Daland
- 28:08Speaker 8: Donna's word of the day is colors. Saam you know
- 28:12Speaker 8: the cal of Sam as in I've got a couple
- 28:16Speaker 8: of fighters of me, big jugs, call of Sam.
- 28:23Speaker 3: That those sids.
- 28:26Speaker 2: Col of Sam?
- 28:32Speaker 3: How does that mean? If you want some fighters of me?
- 28:37Speaker 8: Flaps coliseum.
- 28:43Speaker 3: That was Donna's word of the day.
- 28:45Speaker 8: Thanks to Donnor, Kebabs and stubby holders.
- 28:50Speaker 5: Thank you, thank you so much for Colly.
- 28:53Speaker 8: Stumping to hold your stubby.
- 28:56Speaker 3: Give your chubby. Call Donner, call I love.
- 29:03Speaker 5: Oh God, she's a hood, isn't she.
- 29:07Speaker 3: Jesus so wow, Donna?
- 29:09Speaker 5: You didn't you didn't say you never speak up.
- 29:11Speaker 8: I don't know.
- 29:12Speaker 3: I didn't want to speak to Donna. She did? You
- 29:16Speaker 3: get her jokes? Not really? What was she on about?
- 29:19Speaker 5: I don't know that she's all that bright?
- 29:21Speaker 3: Oh well, she's a she's a working girl. She's a
- 29:25Speaker 3: working girl. She's the mattress actress Hicky.
- 29:33Speaker 5: Go down under.
- 29:34Speaker 4: Oh yeah, are we still looking for a sponsor for
- 29:37Speaker 4: this program?
- 29:38Speaker 5: Yeah?
- 29:41Speaker 3: You believes Jesus. Whatever happened to it a midso why
- 29:45Speaker 3: they failed so badly? Wow? Jesus. Anyway, that was that
- 29:52Speaker 3: was a good shot. We should get out of here
- 29:53Speaker 3: and get some food.
- 29:54Speaker 5: Yeah, I'm bloody hungry.
- 29:55Speaker 3: A bit of a fast app Yeah, bloody hell. We
- 29:58Speaker 3: were quick in and out. We were almost quick. Donna
- 30:00Speaker 3: likes it, doesn't she? Ever?
- 30:03Speaker 5: Yeah, I'm going to be Japan next week for the
- 30:05Speaker 5: motor Show.
