- 0:20Speaker 2: Sure and be a venue to the chaos that was
- 0:24Speaker 2: the Lamon, the Lamon Lamon because the French Grand Prix
- 0:28Speaker 2: really said crash is chaos and championship drama. We we
- 0:32Speaker 2: I have to tell you, guys, I have never used
- 0:34Speaker 2: so much French wording in the last four days that
- 0:37Speaker 2: I have been in Lamon, and it was the best.
- 0:40Speaker 3: But that's enough of that.
- 0:41Speaker 2: This episode of Pittalk is brought to you by Shannon's Insurance.
- 0:44Speaker 2: I'm your host, Rinita Varmiolan, joined by the men, the myth,
- 0:47Speaker 2: the legend that is mister Matt Clayton to unravel everything
- 0:51Speaker 2: that happened over the weekend because I was there, I
- 0:55Speaker 2: was on site and I'm still coming to grips with
- 0:58Speaker 2: the fact of all the drama, all the chaos and
- 1:02Speaker 2: all the craziness has come out of Lamont.
- 1:06Speaker 4: Yeah, there's a bit too unravel, isn't there. I mean,
- 1:08Speaker 4: this was not your standard. I mean Lamont is always
- 1:11Speaker 4: there's always something that happens, you know, whether it's raining,
- 1:14Speaker 4: which amazingly it didn't on Sunday until about an hour
- 1:16Speaker 4: after the race. But there's always something to unpack from
- 1:18Speaker 4: this Grand Prix. But man, there was a lot going
- 1:21Speaker 4: on over the course of the weekend from you wherever
- 1:24Speaker 4: you want to start this. There are a number of
- 1:26Speaker 4: different storylines, not so much that you know they are
- 1:28Speaker 4: interesting for the weekend, but it's the ramifications of the
- 1:31Speaker 4: longer term, I think is the thing that this we'll
- 1:34Speaker 4: look back at this rand and remember that because there
- 1:36Speaker 4: were several things that happened on the weekend where you're thinking, oh,
- 1:38Speaker 4: this is a bigger story than just Sunday or Saturday
- 1:42Speaker 4: at the French Grand Prix. Some of these things will
- 1:44Speaker 4: last long now for the remainder of the season. And yeah,
- 1:46Speaker 4: thoroughly enjoyable from this point of view, but probably more
- 1:49Speaker 4: enjoyable from where where you were. And I cannot believe
- 1:52Speaker 4: you did not get wet during the race, considering that
- 1:55Speaker 4: forecast was so dire and then it didn't happen, and
- 1:58Speaker 4: then anyone that saw any social media out of the
- 2:00Speaker 4: had a bit an hour after the grold refinished. It
- 2:02Speaker 4: was like a lake out there. It's crazy.
- 2:04Speaker 2: So yeah, let's before we dive into the chaos, let's
- 2:06Speaker 2: go into that. So I went on the grid for
- 2:09Speaker 2: Moto three. They declared it wet race. Took a photo
- 2:11Speaker 2: of the track to shine and show everyone at home
- 2:13Speaker 2: on Fox Motorsporok, okay, the track looks wet to me.
- 2:16Speaker 2: Fair Joe went out the new Slicks, we saw him crash.
- 2:19Speaker 2: Motor three was chaos, as it always is when writers
- 2:22Speaker 2: going down left, right, center. Then it came to Moto
- 2:24Speaker 2: two they declared that wet race. I went out on
- 2:27Speaker 2: the grid, was center, and I'm looking at it, going
- 2:29Speaker 2: there's a lot of dry lines here. It is majority dry.
- 2:33Speaker 2: I mean, luckily they had that situation, which we we'll
- 2:36Speaker 2: go into. And then by the time on a GP come.
- 2:39Speaker 2: It's funny because all weeken everybody talking to Jack Appleyard Bertie,
- 2:42Speaker 2: like you name it. Everyone's like looking at the weather
- 2:45Speaker 2: non stop, going that's going to rain on something, for sure,
- 2:47Speaker 2: it's going to rain on Sunday. And then you know,
- 2:50Speaker 2: full dry race.
- 2:51Speaker 3: As it was.
- 2:51Speaker 2: And then yeah, literally a couple hours after the heavens
- 2:54Speaker 2: opened up, the lightning and the thunder. It reminded me
- 2:57Speaker 2: of being in Southeast Queensland because it was like full
- 3:01Speaker 2: summer storm that came through and the flooding in the
- 3:04Speaker 2: tunnels trying to get out of the circuit was crazy.
- 3:07Speaker 2: But that's that's that drama. That's that on the side.
- 3:10Speaker 2: I feel like we have to start and everybody's going
- 3:12Speaker 2: to be talking about this Mark Marquez and the crash
- 3:15Speaker 2: that he had because first of all, that was a
- 3:19Speaker 2: massive high side that was huge. We haven't seen something
- 3:22Speaker 2: like that come from Grand Prix racing in such a
- 3:25Speaker 2: long time. But then the fact that you know, he
- 3:28Speaker 2: limped back. We saw him go to the medical center.
- 3:30Speaker 2: He then says, Okay, I've got a fraction in my foot,
- 3:33Speaker 2: but also I.
- 3:34Speaker 3: Was planning on having a surgery.
- 3:35Speaker 2: Anyway because I've still got a screw or something in
- 3:39Speaker 2: my shoulder similar to the Vinala situation that I need
- 3:42Speaker 2: to get removed because by the time I'm racing, and
- 3:45Speaker 2: by the time I get close to the end of
- 3:47Speaker 2: the race, my arm's gone dead and it's my right
- 3:49Speaker 2: arm and I can't feel my hand and amusing it.
- 3:52Speaker 3: For the throttle.
- 3:52Speaker 2: So that all of this has come out in the
- 3:54Speaker 2: span of like six hours of Mark crashing on Saturday
- 3:58Speaker 2: and then being like, Yeah, I was going to have
- 4:00Speaker 2: surgery anyway, so I may as well just do it
- 4:02Speaker 2: now while they repair my foot.
- 4:04Speaker 5: Yeah.
- 4:05Speaker 4: It was nuts, right, And I think it's interesting that
- 4:07Speaker 4: now that we know what the situation was, I think
- 4:09Speaker 4: it probably makes more sense when you look at Mark's
- 4:13Speaker 4: season this year, because we know that he came back
- 4:16Speaker 4: off the long injury layoff from last year at the
- 4:18Speaker 4: end of last year, but he's had this really weirdly
- 4:21Speaker 4: inconsistent season and that you can't say that he's just
- 4:23Speaker 4: been playing bad because he has won a couple of sprints,
- 4:27Speaker 4: and he has featured at the front towards some of
- 4:29Speaker 4: these Grand Prix as well, even though he hasn't won one.
- 4:31Speaker 4: And then you look back in retrospect. Now, the thing
- 4:33Speaker 4: I'm going to remember from this race weekend was qualifying
- 4:36Speaker 4: on Saturday, where he broke the circuit record in Q
- 4:40Speaker 4: one just to get out of Q one with a
- 4:43Speaker 4: lap that I wouldn't watch the on board afterwards.
- 4:45Speaker 5: It was just vintage.
- 4:46Speaker 4: How did he survive that corner? How did he survive
- 4:49Speaker 4: that corner? The thing was crossed up all over the plays,
- 4:51Speaker 4: the risks he was taking. The lap was four tenths
- 4:54Speaker 4: of a second faster than what became the eventual pole lap.
- 4:57Speaker 4: That's how good that lap was. You very rarely see
- 5:00Speaker 4: a lap in Q one be faster than Q two
- 5:02Speaker 4: unless weather gets in the way, which it didn't. It
- 5:04Speaker 4: shows you how on the edge he was. And then
- 5:07Speaker 4: the sprint he's kind of nowhere, and that he has
- 5:09Speaker 4: the big crash and smashes his foot and everything else.
- 5:11Speaker 4: But going back and doing some reading on this, so
- 5:14Speaker 4: there's clearly some metal work in his shoulder, which is
- 5:16Speaker 4: I'm touching my shoulder like I've got metalwork in mama.
- 5:19Speaker 4: I don't yet, And it's been in there for a while,
- 5:22Speaker 4: and he's known it's been damaged because there's some bent
- 5:25Speaker 4: screws in there and broken screws. You'd have to think
- 5:27Speaker 4: like he's had the right shoulder operated on at least
- 5:29Speaker 4: four times, right, So the weirdest part about the injury
- 5:32Speaker 4: was that it was affecting the radial nerve and his
- 5:34Speaker 4: right shoulder. So you, as you said before, when he
- 5:39Speaker 4: was riding a motor GP bike, his body is in
- 5:42Speaker 4: a certain position that the right arm was going numb,
- 5:46Speaker 4: but not all the time, and he couldn't work out
- 5:48Speaker 4: when it was going to happen. So evidently, in that
- 5:50Speaker 4: Q one lap that we're just talking about before, obviously
- 5:53Speaker 4: everything felt pretty good right, and then there were the
- 5:55Speaker 4: other points during races or sprints or qualifying sessions where
- 5:59Speaker 4: the arm wouldn't feel right. He didn't know when it
- 6:01Speaker 4: was going to happen and when it wasn't going to happen.
- 6:03Speaker 4: But the weird part about it was the position of
- 6:07Speaker 4: riding a Boto GP bike was the only time he
- 6:09Speaker 4: actually felt his arm going numm. He's doing training and
- 6:12Speaker 4: motocross and everything else just in everyday life, and he
- 6:14Speaker 4: shoulder felt completely fine. And so it came to over
- 6:18Speaker 4: the course of the weekend after her wrath where he
- 6:20Speaker 4: crashed out super early in that race, he went to
- 6:23Speaker 4: his doctors and said, look, I don't know what this is,
- 6:26Speaker 4: but there's something that's not right about this, because I'm
- 6:29Speaker 4: getting this feeling only when I'm in this particular position.
- 6:32Speaker 4: And then when they had to look at him and well,
- 6:33Speaker 4: there's actually a bits of broken metal work in there,
- 6:35Speaker 4: which makes sense, I guess, And because obviously you know,
- 6:38Speaker 4: when you have something plated and you've got screws in there,
- 6:41Speaker 4: they don't just stay in the one place for ever,
- 6:42Speaker 4: because your body's constantly changing with muscle mass and other
- 6:45Speaker 4: injuries and the training that you do. And you know,
- 6:48Speaker 4: obviously you see this with old people in your life.
- 6:50Speaker 4: He is an older motor gp Rid, so his body's
- 6:53Speaker 4: going to be more brittle.
- 6:54Speaker 5: And take longer to recover.
- 6:55Speaker 4: So it came to light that he was he was
- 6:57Speaker 4: going to go in after Castalogia to get that metal
- 6:59Speaker 4: work taken out anyway, because there's obviously a two week
- 7:02Speaker 4: break before Barcelona and Magello. So the fact that he's
- 7:05Speaker 4: then busted his foot in this accident at the Lamon,
- 7:08Speaker 4: it's like, well, I'll go and get them both done
- 7:10Speaker 4: at the same time, which makes sense. So interestingly, he
- 7:13Speaker 4: was being operated on in Madrid on Sunday on the
- 7:16Speaker 4: day of the Grand Prix, so there was no mucking around.
- 7:18Speaker 4: It's like, get out of Lamont, get into surgery. The
- 7:20Speaker 4: quicker you get the surgery done, the quicker you can
- 7:22Speaker 4: start to recover. And so is there a chance we
- 7:25Speaker 4: see him back for Magello, which, as we're talking here,
- 7:27Speaker 4: is about two and a half week's time. Look, Motor
- 7:29Speaker 4: GP writers being who they are, yeah, probably because we
- 7:32Speaker 4: know what they're like when it comes to this sort
- 7:33Speaker 4: of stuff. But he's now I think it's seventy seven.
- 7:36Speaker 5: Points behind or something. Now. You never say never with.
- 7:40Speaker 4: Mark because we've known to you know, we've been burnt
- 7:42Speaker 4: with this before. He cannot win this World Championship.
- 7:45Speaker 5: He just can't.
- 7:46Speaker 4: There's two Look, there's a lot of rounds to go.
- 7:49Speaker 4: He's too far behind the ape ball from a points
- 7:51Speaker 4: point of view, but to expect him to come back
- 7:53Speaker 4: and just be completely right is probably not realistic. And
- 7:57Speaker 4: also he doesn't have a massive equipment advantage, where if
- 8:00Speaker 4: the Decuti was by far the best bike on the
- 8:03Speaker 4: grid like it was at the start of last year,
- 8:05Speaker 4: say you go, well maybe, but it's clearly not the
- 8:08Speaker 4: best bike right now. He's way too far behind some
- 8:10Speaker 4: other people in the standings. And he's also he's not
- 8:12Speaker 4: just going to come back and click his fingers into
- 8:14Speaker 4: one hundred percent right. So huge story for the season.
- 8:19Speaker 4: It'll be interesting. I wonder now if this season is
- 8:23Speaker 4: going to be a bit twenty twenty four in that
- 8:26Speaker 4: Mark obviously that was his first year of Grassini and
- 8:28Speaker 4: he wasn't fighting for the world championship because that was
- 8:31Speaker 4: Banai versus Martine Mark two. But Mark had a say
- 8:34Speaker 4: in how that championship went right because he was winning
- 8:37Speaker 4: Grand Prix and he was up the front again. So
- 8:39Speaker 4: you get this situation where I don't think Mark's going
- 8:42Speaker 4: to win this year's world title, but I think he's
- 8:44Speaker 4: going to have a say in who does, because as
- 8:46Speaker 4: his body gets better, as the season goes on, he
- 8:48Speaker 4: will be taking points off people. I just don't know
- 8:50Speaker 4: if he's going to be in a position to win
- 8:51Speaker 4: it again.
- 8:55Speaker 2: I sent you a message and I kind of seed
- 8:58Speaker 2: in my thoughts on this, but I'm going to put
- 9:00Speaker 2: this out here. I want to ask you a question.
- 9:02Speaker 2: I also want to invite all the viewers on YouTube
- 9:05Speaker 2: let us know your thoughts in the comments as well
- 9:07Speaker 2: with this.
- 9:07Speaker 3: But is this the turning point for Mark?
- 9:11Speaker 2: Is this him now possibly considering retirement once again or
- 9:15Speaker 2: going to retire, because I have this feeling that I
- 9:19Speaker 2: think is is he gonna wait for the eight fifties
- 9:23Speaker 2: or is he going to go?
- 9:24Speaker 3: You know what my body's done.
- 9:28Speaker 4: You do have to wonder. It's a really interesting conundrum,
- 9:31Speaker 4: and this part of me that will answer your question.
- 9:35Speaker 4: They're kind of in reverse. I don't think he would
- 9:38Speaker 4: consider it because of the eight fifties, not in spite
- 9:40Speaker 4: of them. So we know that he was driven for
- 9:44Speaker 4: so long by that seventh Motor GP World Championship that
- 9:47Speaker 4: by his own admission, he came back too early in
- 9:49Speaker 4: twenty twenty. He was the architect of a lot of
- 9:51Speaker 4: his own misery for those subsequent years. Got back to
- 9:54Speaker 4: the top of the mountain last year. You could see
- 9:56Speaker 4: by the way he reacted after Motegi last year motion
- 10:00Speaker 4: and the relief where he'd been obviously bottling that for
- 10:03Speaker 4: so many years. So that box is ticked. You do
- 10:05Speaker 4: wonder if this rule set was just going to rumble
- 10:08Speaker 4: on and there comes a point that and every racer
- 10:10Speaker 4: gets to this point, how many injuries is too many?
- 10:13Speaker 4: Like do I want to go through this again? And
- 10:15Speaker 4: it's not even so much the injury, it's the rehab
- 10:17Speaker 4: and the physio and the time. And you know, just
- 10:21Speaker 4: because you've done it before, it doesn't make it any easier.
- 10:24Speaker 4: You've got to have that external motivation to get back right.
- 10:27Speaker 4: So the motivation for Mark over the last six years
- 10:30Speaker 4: until the end of twenty twenty five was I want
- 10:32Speaker 4: to get back to where I was before I hurt myself.
- 10:34Speaker 4: That was the thing that drove him and so he
- 10:36Speaker 4: was able to cross that one off his list.
- 10:39Speaker 5: You do wonder now.
- 10:41Speaker 4: That because we've got this rule set coming in where
- 10:43Speaker 4: quite frankly, we do not know who's going to be
- 10:45Speaker 4: good next year. The whole thing. It's the hardest reset
- 10:48Speaker 4: in the sport we've probably had in the whole motor
- 10:50Speaker 4: GP era. If you will, Mark, you're thinking more along
- 10:53Speaker 4: the lines of what if I retired and the Decati
- 10:55Speaker 4: is amazing, and we've got this bike it's so much
- 10:58Speaker 4: better than everybody else's that I have to not ride it.
- 11:01Speaker 4: That would be something that would gnaw away at a
- 11:03Speaker 4: competitor like him. So the fact we've got this rule reset,
- 11:07Speaker 4: I would be enormously surprised if he's not on the
- 11:11Speaker 4: grid in twenty twenty seven. But the caveat for this is,
- 11:15Speaker 4: let's say it's the other way around and to Caddy
- 11:17Speaker 4: is not the best bike on the grid, or it's
- 11:18Speaker 4: not even the second best bike on the grid, and
- 11:20Speaker 4: they get out of the gate really slowly. He's not
- 11:23Speaker 4: going to be the sort of guy who just rolls
- 11:25Speaker 4: around to finish fifth and sixth every weekend. If he's
- 11:28Speaker 4: got a chance to fight for something meaningful, he'll be
- 11:30Speaker 4: right there. If he's just there to make up the
- 11:32Speaker 4: numbers because of the limitations of his body or his machinery,
- 11:36Speaker 4: then I don't think we'll see him hang around too long.
- 11:38Speaker 4: And it's really interesting. And I know we've talked about
- 11:40Speaker 4: this before, but that do you retire too soon or
- 11:43Speaker 4: too late? And we've seen modern examples of that Emoto
- 11:46Speaker 4: GP and that Casey Stoner probably went too soon, and
- 11:49Speaker 4: Valentine and Rossi probably went on for too long. Mark
- 11:52Speaker 4: will try and thread the needle between those two extremes,
- 11:55Speaker 4: but he'll be closer to the Stoner end of it
- 11:56Speaker 4: than the Rossi end of it. If I'm being honest,
- 11:59Speaker 4: I think because he's he's thirty three now, I don't
- 12:02Speaker 4: imagine that you're going to see a thirty eight year
- 12:03Speaker 4: old black bar cass in Boto GP. So to answer
- 12:06Speaker 4: your question, I think the eight fifties will keep him
- 12:08Speaker 4: interested in because you want to see how the story
- 12:10Speaker 4: plays out. But if it's not looking great soon after
- 12:14Speaker 4: that starts, I can't imagine that he's going to put
- 12:16Speaker 4: his body through too much more, because God knows it's
- 12:19Speaker 4: been through enough at this point.
- 12:21Speaker 3: Oh, it's ridiculous.
- 12:22Speaker 2: And you see him walking around and one thing that
- 12:24Speaker 2: Matt you really taught me is to pay attention to
- 12:26Speaker 2: body language. And you see him walking around. You see
- 12:30Speaker 2: him walk into what they call the media scrums here
- 12:32Speaker 2: where the writers will come and all the written journalists
- 12:35Speaker 2: will come and listen to them. And you watch him
- 12:37Speaker 2: like almost like put on like a character, and he
- 12:41Speaker 2: becomes herself what we see on TV. But then you
- 12:44Speaker 2: see him walk away and you're like, oh, there's something
- 12:47Speaker 2: else going on here, and clearly that's what we're learning. Oh,
- 12:50Speaker 2: you know, they've got metal in my shoulders causing my
- 12:52Speaker 2: arm to go numb. But I wasn't not going to
- 12:53Speaker 2: tell you guys about that, like what we saw in
- 12:55Speaker 2: the Big Dash in his arm and Harath like from Koda.
- 12:58Speaker 2: So there's all this stuff that happens behind the scenes
- 13:00Speaker 2: that clearly, you know, we don't get privy to and
- 13:03Speaker 2: they don't want us to know.
- 13:05Speaker 4: But you know, it's interesting.
- 13:06Speaker 3: I'm just going to be interesting.
- 13:08Speaker 4: I'm going to jump in just real quick here because
- 13:10Speaker 4: I was around in the paddic a lot more, probably
- 13:11Speaker 4: in his younger career than the last part of his career,
- 13:14Speaker 4: And I reckon a big part of that was when
- 13:17Speaker 4: he came in in twenty thirteen and fourteen, and even
- 13:19Speaker 4: for the start of fifteen, there was no filter with Mark.
- 13:22Speaker 4: He was one of the more authentic people you could
- 13:24Speaker 4: ever be around because he was so young and it
- 13:26Speaker 4: was just happy to be there, and my god, this
- 13:28Speaker 4: guy's good and so on and so forth. He was
- 13:30Speaker 4: a pretty open book back in those days. And I think,
- 13:33Speaker 4: you know, we always cycle back to Malaysia twenty fifteen,
- 13:35Speaker 4: but what happened there in the fallout from that, and
- 13:38Speaker 4: he saw the other side of perhaps Motor GP that
- 13:40Speaker 4: maybe he wasn't maybe he was aware of it and
- 13:42Speaker 4: a bit naive to it or whatever it might be.
- 13:44Speaker 4: But there's been a much harder exterior shell to Mark
- 13:48Speaker 4: and that now he turns up and he acts as
- 13:51Speaker 4: Mark Marquez, Motor GP racer when he's at the races. Now,
- 13:54Speaker 4: that's his professional persona. And so if he had injuries
- 13:58Speaker 4: back in those early days, you would know about it,
- 14:00Speaker 4: wouldn't try to mask him. But as you said, then
- 14:02Speaker 4: he comes into these media engagements now and the mask
- 14:04Speaker 4: goes on and he acts like Mark Marquez, and he's
- 14:07Speaker 4: not going to give too much away, and he'll give
- 14:09Speaker 4: you a sound bite, and he'll give you a smile,
- 14:11Speaker 4: and he'll do all the things he has to do
- 14:12Speaker 4: to get by. But he's a lot cagier about these
- 14:15Speaker 4: sorts of things now. And it happens to older people
- 14:17Speaker 4: in any sport, I suppose, but your health as a
- 14:20Speaker 4: professional athlete is something that you can protect. And he's
- 14:24Speaker 4: just not going to be as open a book now
- 14:26Speaker 4: as say a twenty year old in any category who
- 14:29Speaker 4: just say, oh, yeah, I broke my foot and I've
- 14:30Speaker 4: got a shoulder problem and whatever. He is much more
- 14:33Speaker 4: circumspect now with what he says and when he says it.
- 14:35Speaker 4: And that's just a function of maybe the way his
- 14:37Speaker 4: careers evolved, but also just a function of age. And
- 14:40Speaker 4: you know, it's a terrible thing to say, but he's
- 14:43Speaker 4: very experienced in being injured because he's just done it
- 14:45Speaker 4: so many times now. It's a horrible thing to think
- 14:47Speaker 4: about someone, but he knows how this goes.
- 14:50Speaker 2: Oh yeah, no, one hundred percent, he knows how this goes.
- 14:54Speaker 2: I just want to segue quickly before we talk about.
- 14:57Speaker 3: The I mean Prilio obviously the clear talking point.
- 15:00Speaker 2: But pekko vanyaya this weekend, let's let's go from the
- 15:04Speaker 2: highs of you know, making it to Pole Q two.
- 15:08Speaker 2: Then the sprint was on the podium. We saw obviously Martin,
- 15:11Speaker 2: which we need to talk about that as well, Martin,
- 15:13Speaker 2: Peco and then Bez.
- 15:15Speaker 3: But it was almost like giving.
- 15:16Speaker 2: Those like.
- 15:18Speaker 3: Twenty four vibes again.
- 15:19Speaker 2: I was seeing Peco and Martin battling it out and
- 15:22Speaker 2: then to go into Sunday and then Sunday we'll get there.
- 15:26Speaker 3: But he was angry.
- 15:28Speaker 2: He was so angry, and I've never seen him visibly
- 15:32Speaker 2: frustrated on the side of the track. But how to
- 15:35Speaker 2: go from from Pole being like the leading dow caddie
- 15:39Speaker 2: when lately it's been Digia. Peco just seemed to this
- 15:42Speaker 2: magic make everything work and then Sunday to crash out
- 15:46Speaker 2: talk about highs to low.
- 15:48Speaker 5: Yeah.
- 15:49Speaker 4: He I think the frustration is that, you know, there's
- 15:52Speaker 4: a repeat of perhaps what had happened at her Reath
- 15:55Speaker 4: the previously. It is a breaking issue that he is
- 15:57Speaker 4: adamant that is the cause of a lot of his problems.
- 15:59Speaker 4: Now he look, the results clearly aren't there just like
- 16:02Speaker 4: they were for a lot of last year, But I
- 16:04Speaker 4: think it's slightly different circumstances. I think last year he
- 16:06Speaker 4: was a bit shell shocked and a bit I'm not
- 16:09Speaker 4: fighting for anything meaningful, and my teammates just come in
- 16:11Speaker 4: here and cleaned everything up, and he sort of was
- 16:14Speaker 4: a bit, you know, the shoulders were dropped a bit
- 16:15Speaker 4: last year. This year, I feel like he's riding a
- 16:18Speaker 4: bit better, and he's a bit more adamant about sticking
- 16:22Speaker 4: to his guns on things now.
- 16:23Speaker 5: Now.
- 16:23Speaker 4: That could be because clearly he's going somewhere else next year,
- 16:27Speaker 4: and he maybe doesn't have to be as as politically
- 16:30Speaker 4: kind as he perhaps once was. He knows he's not
- 16:33Speaker 4: the Decati favorite sign every more or anymore, and all
- 16:35Speaker 4: that sort of thing. But the frustration, I think it's
- 16:38Speaker 4: like I just keep having the same issue, and it's
- 16:41Speaker 4: the same issue and the same issue. I actually think
- 16:43Speaker 4: he's riding quite well at the moment. Like he's not
- 16:45Speaker 4: twenty twenty three, twenty twenty two level pecko, but I
- 16:48Speaker 4: don't think he's twenty twenty five level pecko. I think
- 16:50Speaker 4: he's better this year than he was before. I have
- 16:52Speaker 4: absolutely no doubt that he'll go to a brilliant next
- 16:54Speaker 4: year and be very very good on that eight fifty.
- 16:56Speaker 4: I don't think he's forgotten how to ride by any means,
- 16:59Speaker 4: but he such a I mean, you know what it's
- 17:01Speaker 4: like when you listen to him in these media debriefs.
- 17:03Speaker 4: He's a very He's very thoughtful, is the way I'd
- 17:07Speaker 4: probably describe him, Like he's a guy who he thinks
- 17:09Speaker 4: but about what he says before he says it. And
- 17:12Speaker 4: he's very quite considered with things, and he will put
- 17:15Speaker 4: his hand up when things are not going right, and
- 17:16Speaker 4: so on and so forth. There's just this massive frustration.
- 17:18Speaker 4: It's like I've told you, guys, this is an issue.
- 17:20Speaker 4: I've told you, and I've told you, I've told you,
- 17:23Speaker 4: and it's happened again, and yeah, you're right, Like you
- 17:25Speaker 4: don't often see Peco get super angry like that. And
- 17:28Speaker 4: I don't even know if it was that issue. It
- 17:30Speaker 4: wasn't even that incident per se. It was more just like,
- 17:33Speaker 4: this is just an accumulation of stuff now where I've
- 17:36Speaker 4: run out of patience. But he wasn't slow at lamon
- 17:39Speaker 4: which you know we have said in the past twelve months,
- 17:41Speaker 4: like where has he been he's been kind of nowhere.
- 17:43Speaker 4: He was actually pretty quick over the course of the weekend.
- 17:46Speaker 4: He was probably Ducaddy's most convincing writer over the course
- 17:48Speaker 4: of the weekend and got nothing to show for it
- 17:50Speaker 4: on Sunday again, No, And like.
- 17:53Speaker 2: I said, I I was actually standing on the service road.
- 17:56Speaker 2: Funny enough, I was trying to chase Isaac Hadja, the
- 17:58Speaker 2: F one driver.
- 18:00Speaker 6: Made some social content for Fox and K because he's.
- 18:04Speaker 3: There, right and so I was.
- 18:07Speaker 2: One and is in the Chicane goes under the bridge
- 18:09Speaker 2: blah blah blah. So I was right there and I
- 18:12Speaker 2: was actually walking back to get to the media center
- 18:14Speaker 2: when Pego crash. I didn't see it myself, but there's
- 18:16Speaker 2: all those clips on socials of him kicking you know,
- 18:20Speaker 2: cones and stuff that are lying around for the marshals,
- 18:23Speaker 2: and that really caught me off guard because I'm going,
- 18:25Speaker 2: that's so unlike him.
- 18:27Speaker 3: To be like that.
- 18:28Speaker 2: So I think you're right there.
- 18:29Speaker 3: I think he's kind of letting the guard down. All
- 18:33Speaker 3: the frustrations built up enough that he's.
- 18:36Speaker 4: Like a again, yeah, completely, And this is one of
- 18:40Speaker 4: the other random stories that this year. You know, once
- 18:42Speaker 4: we get all these writer announcements, eventually the manufacturers and
- 18:46Speaker 4: MC can actually come to an agreement on this. The
- 18:49Speaker 4: season is still so long, it's got seventeen more rounds
- 18:51Speaker 4: to go. Once all these things become public. The back
- 18:55Speaker 4: end of this season, like it's obviously really compacted because
- 18:57Speaker 4: we do the flyaways and what have you the last
- 18:59Speaker 4: sea or eight races, they'll be two thirds of the
- 19:02Speaker 4: grid that are writing for someone else the following year.
- 19:05Speaker 4: So the filter and the willingness to toe the party line,
- 19:08Speaker 4: there's going to be a lot of truth, a lot
- 19:09Speaker 4: of truths coming get whether the teams want them or not,
- 19:12Speaker 4: because a lot of these writers will just be well,
- 19:13Speaker 4: I'm not going to be here next year, so who cares.
- 19:16Speaker 4: So there might be some repigne, some relationships might be
- 19:20Speaker 4: a little bit damaged, and there'll be some people giving
- 19:22Speaker 4: out some good soundbites because no one's going to feel
- 19:24Speaker 4: the need to edit themselves.
- 19:25Speaker 5: Are they.
- 19:26Speaker 2: It was like deja vou of this this time last
- 19:29Speaker 2: year thanks to our friends over at the race Moto GP,
- 19:32Speaker 2: who pointed out that it was Jugem Martin came here
- 19:35Speaker 2: and said I'm not writing for you guys, and we
- 19:37Speaker 2: had all of that off track drama. Yeah, and then
- 19:40Speaker 2: he goes and does the double this weekend for a
- 19:43Speaker 2: Prillia talk about the tables of turn for Juwai Martin,
- 19:47Speaker 2: I think it's a testament also to a Prillier not
- 19:50Speaker 2: holding a grudge or not showing us that they are,
- 19:53Speaker 2: but it's the fact that they're like, no, no, it's okay,
- 19:55Speaker 2: like we'll sort all this out. We're still going to
- 19:57Speaker 2: give you the package. And I think Joemar team getting
- 20:01Speaker 2: rid of like the fames in front of his face
- 20:03Speaker 2: and kind of cooling down. Now he's learning to ride
- 20:06Speaker 2: the bike. Now he's coming after Macro bad Zeki one
- 20:09Speaker 2: point between them both in the championship, and look at
- 20:12Speaker 2: what he's doing after last year, look at what he's
- 20:15Speaker 2: able to achieve. I think if Martin can get his
- 20:18Speaker 2: qualifying down pat and that's like a whole different skill
- 20:21Speaker 2: set that we know to pull off one lap. But
- 20:23Speaker 2: if he can start getting qualifying, I think he's going
- 20:27Speaker 2: to start to run away in the sprint once again.
- 20:30Speaker 2: I posted it on socials and the first like three corners.
- 20:34Speaker 3: How many places did he wake up?
- 20:36Speaker 4: Yeah, it was he was eighth, eighth on the grid
- 20:39Speaker 4: and he was first at effectively, what is the main
- 20:42Speaker 4: the main corner the first quarter is of the Chicai
- 20:44Speaker 4: and they caught turned three there and he went around
- 20:46Speaker 4: the outside of Bano Mark Marquez and Berzeki and took
- 20:49Speaker 4: the lead. That's like, it was absolutely astonishing. It was
- 20:51Speaker 4: one of those ones that the aerial view it looked
- 20:53Speaker 4: like a video game. I actually paused it and went back.
- 20:56Speaker 4: I just tried to track him through that first sequence
- 20:58Speaker 4: of corners, like how has he ended up there again?
- 21:00Speaker 4: That it didn't seem real at the time, but it's
- 21:03Speaker 4: so interesting that you mention the you know, in twenty
- 21:07Speaker 4: twenty four he did the double at Lamol for Pramac
- 21:09Speaker 4: Ducati as it then was, and then twenty twenty five
- 21:12Speaker 4: and I wrote about this as well. On the Sunday
- 21:14Speaker 4: after the race where he'd had that massive accident in
- 21:17Speaker 4: Qatar and was airlifted back to Andorra in an air ambulance.
- 21:21Speaker 4: He couldn't actually fly to Lament, so he drove his
- 21:24Speaker 4: car eight hundred and fifty kilometers from Andorra to Lament
- 21:27Speaker 4: to meet Massima Rivla to say I don't think I
- 21:30Speaker 4: want to do this anymore, and you know, and then
- 21:32Speaker 4: you come a year later and he's backwitting the sprint
- 21:34Speaker 4: in the Grand Prix at Lamon. Again we've gone full circle.
- 21:37Speaker 4: But the interesting thing for me, and look, any frequent
- 21:40Speaker 4: listeners to this podcast know how much I rate the
- 21:43Speaker 4: managerial job that Rivlla has done there. I wonder with
- 21:47Speaker 4: someone who's as impulsive and pretty hot headed as Martine,
- 21:50Speaker 4: as he's obviously Bertie's way through a couple of manufacturers previously,
- 21:54Speaker 4: it's almost like the first time someone turns to a
- 21:56Speaker 4: kid and says, no, you can't have that. There's a
- 21:59Speaker 4: bit of that going on with the way Rival has
- 22:01Speaker 4: handled Martine, and that we know that he worked his
- 22:03Speaker 4: way out of a casey end deal before he got
- 22:05Speaker 4: to motor GP with Dakati, and then he rage quits
- 22:08Speaker 4: Ducatti because they're got to promote Mark Marquez and he
- 22:10Speaker 4: goes and signs with the Prelier. And then last year
- 22:12Speaker 4: he's trying to get out of a contract and go
- 22:13Speaker 4: to Honda, and I think a lot of people have
- 22:15Speaker 4: just said yes, because I don't want to deal with
- 22:17Speaker 4: a rooting, moody.
- 22:19Speaker 5: Jorge Martine a lot of the time.
- 22:21Speaker 4: And the way Rivela handled that last year and he said, well,
- 22:26Speaker 4: I think you can win here, and I don't think
- 22:28Speaker 4: you should leave. And then when they pushed back and
- 22:31Speaker 4: said well we want to leave, we want to leave,
- 22:33Speaker 4: revels like, well, you've signed a contract for two years
- 22:35Speaker 4: and if you'd like to go through the courts with this,
- 22:37Speaker 4: there's no guarantee that you're going to win, and it's
- 22:38Speaker 4: going to be really expensive and take a really long time,
- 22:42Speaker 4: and sort of did that stern parent thing almost that
- 22:44Speaker 4: you just stared him down and said, well, go ahead,
- 22:46Speaker 4: if you want to do this, that's fine. I'm not
- 22:48Speaker 4: going to get caught up in all the emotion. And
- 22:51Speaker 4: whether that's just a product of Revaler's personality or whether
- 22:53Speaker 4: he's dealt with more Prima Donna types of Formula one before,
- 22:57Speaker 4: I don't know. It could be any of these things,
- 22:59Speaker 4: but it was really interesting. And he put the ball
- 23:01Speaker 4: back in jjey Martin's court and said, well, if you
- 23:03Speaker 4: don't think you can win here and you're desperate to
- 23:04Speaker 4: get yourself out, then off you go. Then take your chances.
- 23:08Speaker 4: I think it's a massive win for that manufacturer to
- 23:15Speaker 4: not refuse the demand to leave and say you can
- 23:18Speaker 4: win here, just trust us. And the fact that it's
- 23:21Speaker 4: now come to fruition. I mean, you know, being around
- 23:24Speaker 4: Jus like he's on a very big emotional rollercoaster. Everything's
- 23:28Speaker 4: the greatest thing ever, all the worst thing ever. There's
- 23:30Speaker 4: kind of nowhere in between, and it pruly has just
- 23:33Speaker 4: been so clever with the way they've handled this and
- 23:35Speaker 4: that they've said, look, come here, we'll stick an arm
- 23:37Speaker 4: around your shoulder.
- 23:38Speaker 5: You could win with us.
- 23:39Speaker 4: And now, of course we also know that Jgy Martine's
- 23:41Speaker 4: decided to go off and ride for Yabahah next year,
- 23:43Speaker 4: which him trading the best Vike in Motor GP for
- 23:46Speaker 4: the worst is the most Wollgey Martine thing of all time,
- 23:49Speaker 4: of course, because he's just so impulsive. It's a classic
- 23:51Speaker 4: Jujey Martine play. But you know what's in play now
- 23:55Speaker 4: and again, going back to twenty twenty four, he quit
- 23:58Speaker 4: Docti and then won the world championship for them and
- 24:01Speaker 4: then took the number one plate to another manufacturer. We
- 24:04Speaker 4: could have history repeating itself this year in that he's
- 24:06Speaker 4: going to Yamaha. He might be going there as a
- 24:08Speaker 4: world champion again.
- 24:11Speaker 6: Imagine you're seeing how the number one, the number one
- 24:14Speaker 6: go to a Brillier and then not that long after
- 24:17Speaker 6: the number one, go over to Yamaha once again, it's phenomenal, phenomenal.
- 24:22Speaker 3: I don't think we've ever had a story like that
- 24:24Speaker 3: in Mato GP. Well.
- 24:25Speaker 4: And then next year when he's trumbling around qualifying fifteenth
- 24:29Speaker 4: thirty Yamaha, that might be a still bit a bit undercooked.
- 24:32Speaker 4: You'll be thinking to yourself, why did I.
- 24:33Speaker 5: Do this again?
- 24:34Speaker 4: But look, he's been very much in character. Once he
- 24:37Speaker 4: gets to Yamaha, he's basically been through the entire grid.
- 24:40Speaker 5: At this point, it's just going to be the way
- 24:41Speaker 5: that he rolls.
- 24:42Speaker 4: But I love the fact that Aprillier have got this
- 24:45Speaker 4: bike now that's clearly the best in the field. They've
- 24:47Speaker 4: got two guys coming at it from really really different
- 24:51Speaker 4: starting points, I guess, and they're one point apart in
- 24:54Speaker 4: the championship after five rounds. And sometimes these championship fights
- 24:57Speaker 4: can be awesome when there's three, four five guys in it.
- 25:00Speaker 4: If we had a season long Berzeki Martine title fire
- 25:04Speaker 4: between two teammates knowing that one of them is going
- 25:07Speaker 4: to stay next year and one of them is not,
- 25:08Speaker 4: that's going to be so interesting.
- 25:12Speaker 2: I'm curious to see now how this starts to play
- 25:15Speaker 2: with Marco though, because we knew this weekend he just
- 25:18Speaker 2: he said itself, he wasn't comfortable, it wasn't quite jelling
- 25:22Speaker 2: enough for him this weekend, and clearly we saw that.
- 25:25Speaker 2: But how does this start to play Because we go
- 25:28Speaker 2: from Lemon, which is you know, quite tight, it's.
- 25:31Speaker 3: Quite short track.
- 25:33Speaker 2: Then we go to Barcelona, a tract that they've all
- 25:35Speaker 2: done like a billion laps around, but we know it's
- 25:38Speaker 2: quite slippery because there's all different, you know sort of
- 25:41Speaker 2: there's there's basically stuff happening at that circle every weekend,
- 25:44Speaker 2: every day day, every day, almost every day.
- 25:48Speaker 3: It's actually funny.
- 25:49Speaker 2: I've got a friend here in Barcelona and they're doing
- 25:52Speaker 2: a twenty four hour race, so they're prepping for that,
- 25:54Speaker 2: which is in like the weekend after, so there's.
- 25:56Speaker 3: Always stuff going on.
- 25:57Speaker 2: So then you the Spaniard two have done like a
- 25:59Speaker 2: billion laps around Catalonia coming up. But then this is
- 26:02Speaker 2: notoriously it's the track for a Brillier where they have
- 26:06Speaker 2: had success in the past with Elisias Bugro. So there's
- 26:09Speaker 2: all that going on, and I'm really curious to see
- 26:11Speaker 2: how this sort of plays out because you've got obviously
- 26:14Speaker 2: Martin and yeah, we spoke about this.
- 26:16Speaker 3: Martin came in as the.
- 26:17Speaker 2: Number one writer, he was the man. Then the injuries happened,
- 26:20Speaker 2: so then Marco stepped up. Then he's become the man
- 26:23Speaker 2: and then had that such incredible strong start to the season.
- 26:27Speaker 2: But he comes to Hawaii Martin and he's making his way.
- 26:29Speaker 2: Now it's just that one point between the two of them.
- 26:32Speaker 3: How is this now going to start to play? Is
- 26:34Speaker 3: it all just going to be like a case of
- 26:37Speaker 3: the opposite to McLaren in F one, where they're actually
- 26:40Speaker 3: going to go let them race.
- 26:42Speaker 4: Look, because my motor GP is motor GP, I think
- 26:45Speaker 4: they will let them RaSE. So I don't think there's
- 26:46Speaker 4: going to be a heap of interference there. I don't think.
- 26:49Speaker 4: I can't imagine team orders or that sort of thing
- 26:52Speaker 4: playing into the narrative for this, which thank goodness for that,
- 26:56Speaker 4: because we want to see this decided on the track.
- 26:58Speaker 4: But it's the contrast of personalities and approaches. It's really
- 27:01Speaker 4: interesting for me. And sometimes we talk about these riders
- 27:05Speaker 4: like they're just like a finished product and they don't evolve.
- 27:08Speaker 5: It's like, oh, this writer does this this right? Does that?
- 27:11Speaker 4: The interesting thing with Berzeki for me now is So
- 27:14Speaker 4: you go back the last seven Grand Prix, so five
- 27:16Speaker 4: this year and two at the back end of last year.
- 27:19Speaker 4: He has finished no worse than second in a Grand
- 27:21Speaker 4: Prix for seven rounds, and you get the sense that
- 27:26Speaker 4: if he's going to win this, he's going to have
- 27:28Speaker 4: to be the consistent, ever present, just be there all
- 27:32Speaker 4: the time, because I would imagine that Martin's form line
- 27:35Speaker 4: will maybe be a bit more up and down over
- 27:38Speaker 4: the course of the season. So there'll be some weekends
- 27:40Speaker 4: like this weekend at Lamont where Martin was just the
- 27:42Speaker 4: fastest rider, whether he gets to the first corner first
- 27:45Speaker 4: or whether he gets to the first corner seventh, as
- 27:46Speaker 4: he did in the Grand Prix, he just had a
- 27:48Speaker 4: level that no one else could really stay with. So
- 27:51Speaker 4: if you're Berzeki on those days when that happens, what's
- 27:53Speaker 4: the next best thing he can do? Finish second, you
- 27:56Speaker 4: mitigate the points damage, you're right there, and you just
- 28:00Speaker 4: keep pounding the rock until it breaks. And there's an
- 28:03Speaker 4: obvious area for Berzeki to improve, because he's left a
- 28:05Speaker 4: lot of sprint points on the table this year. We
- 28:07Speaker 4: know that, but in terms of the way he approaches
- 28:10Speaker 4: grandporin now, like the last two races, he was never
- 28:12Speaker 4: going to catch Alex Marquez at Hareth and basically didn't try.
- 28:15Speaker 4: He just made sure he covered off everybody else and
- 28:17Speaker 4: did the same thing this weekend. I mean, he said
- 28:19Speaker 4: on Sunday that he was actually surprised to lead for
- 28:22Speaker 4: as long as he did in the race at Lamon
- 28:24Speaker 4: because he never really felt like he had the best
- 28:26Speaker 4: pace in the field. And you know, I'm sure we're
- 28:29Speaker 4: about to get to this particular guy too. Had that
- 28:31Speaker 4: race gone for another one or two laps, he wouldn't
- 28:33Speaker 4: have finished second either, quite frankly, so for him to
- 28:35Speaker 4: bank twenty points on a weekend where everything wasn't feeling
- 28:38Speaker 4: great is almost the best possible outcome. But yeah, God,
- 28:42Speaker 4: an intra team fight is so interesting. We haven't had
- 28:46Speaker 4: a really good fight for two riders in the same
- 28:49Speaker 4: team for the championship. And this will be the second
- 28:52Speaker 4: reference to this particular year in this week's podcast since
- 28:54Speaker 4: twenty fifteen, because the whole reason that Sapang twenty fifteen
- 28:58Speaker 4: happened was because it was Lorenzo versus Rossi at Yamaha.
- 29:01Speaker 4: That was the last time we had a fight with
- 29:03Speaker 4: inner team for a Championship. We've got a bit of
- 29:06Speaker 4: material out of twenty fifteen, so maybe twenty twenty six
- 29:08Speaker 4: all we the same.
- 29:10Speaker 3: I mean, I can.
- 29:11Speaker 2: Kind of see it from Jugayes's side of things. I
- 29:13Speaker 2: don't know, Marco Verzeki just seems way too chill for
- 29:16Speaker 2: me to do anything. But when the helmet goes on
- 29:18Speaker 2: and that visor goes down, they become totally different people.
- 29:21Speaker 2: As alluding a great way to allude to our next
- 29:24Speaker 2: person to talk about our next writer. I agree that
- 29:30Speaker 2: man is so chill, like phenomenal, and then you go
- 29:35Speaker 2: and see you can't see what he did.
- 29:36Speaker 3: On the weekend. We knew this was coming for so long.
- 29:39Speaker 2: I had the pace like we saw it in Coda
- 29:42Speaker 2: for example, like oh that was so close.
- 29:44Speaker 3: I'm so happy for track als this weekend.
- 29:47Speaker 2: I think with I, once again, he's got a weakness
- 29:49Speaker 2: and for him it's qualifying. He needs to work on
- 29:52Speaker 2: that one lap pace. And it's funny because I've heard
- 29:55Speaker 2: it referenced to quite a lot. Now they just need
- 29:57Speaker 2: to go and do a Jack Miller where they turn
- 29:59Speaker 2: their brain off and they just go.
- 30:01Speaker 3: And do that one lap place. Qualifying is everything. We
- 30:04Speaker 3: know this in this sport.
- 30:06Speaker 2: But like you said, if that race was two or
- 30:08Speaker 2: three laps longer, sure I would have been yeah, one
- 30:13Speaker 2: hundred percent because of that pace and the consistency. You
- 30:16Speaker 2: could see it lap after lap after lap once he
- 30:18Speaker 2: got through all the traffic that he had to. I mean,
- 30:21Speaker 2: brilliant for track House being you know the I keep
- 30:25Speaker 2: when you say privateer as the motocrosser, but the satellite team,
- 30:29Speaker 2: and I think it's it's great Prillian being.
- 30:33Speaker 3: Once the manufacturer.
- 30:34Speaker 2: That was the lower end of one of all of them,
- 30:38Speaker 2: to have them now at the top and they're leading
- 30:40Speaker 2: the team standings because obviously it's factory Aprillier, it's Trackhouse.
- 30:44Speaker 2: Are Prillier are one two on the team standings. I
- 30:47Speaker 2: think it's brilliant. But I think I once again he's
- 30:50Speaker 2: mastering this bike. He's getting those final points sorted.
- 30:54Speaker 3: But he's also going to Yamaha next year.
- 30:57Speaker 4: No, I know, but you do have to look a
- 31:00Speaker 4: couple of points on that. I mean, going back to
- 31:01Speaker 4: the Masimo Rivla thing. The first four years Riverler was
- 31:03Speaker 4: a Prillier, they finished last in the Constructor's championship. Remember
- 31:07Speaker 4: how much of a complete joke they were a lot
- 31:08Speaker 4: of the time, they had one or two circuits a
- 31:10Speaker 4: year where they were good, like you mentioned Barcelona, but
- 31:13Speaker 4: they're always randomly good. In Argentina they were good for
- 31:15Speaker 4: some reason. Everywhere else the bike could catch fire or
- 31:17Speaker 4: break down or something. The thing with a Gura now
- 31:20Speaker 4: that's so interesting is that there's two aspects to him. No,
- 31:25Speaker 4: he's not able to turn his brain off and just
- 31:27Speaker 4: do the lab, but it's because he's not able to
- 31:30Speaker 4: turn his brain off because that's just the way he
- 31:31Speaker 4: approaches the craft. It's just really different for him, the
- 31:35Speaker 4: way he goes about it, very analytically minded. But the
- 31:38Speaker 4: other thing with him now is that you know, I've
- 31:40Speaker 4: wrote about this after Harath in that he's now got
- 31:43Speaker 4: this his second half race pace, once the tires start
- 31:48Speaker 4: going down and the fuel starts coming out, is the
- 31:50Speaker 4: best on the grid right now. And it's one of
- 31:52Speaker 4: those things that every single one of his opponents knows
- 31:55Speaker 4: what's coming and there's nothing you can do about it.
- 31:58Speaker 4: And that's the crazy part of it. Doesn't matter what
- 32:01Speaker 4: the track is, what the conditions are. You watch the
- 32:04Speaker 4: tower beside the coverage on the TV, and you see
- 32:07Speaker 4: where the riders are, and he just starts coming from
- 32:09Speaker 4: mid race, it'd be tenth, and then near be eighth,
- 32:11Speaker 4: and then he'll be seventh, and then he's fifth all
- 32:13Speaker 4: of a sudden, and you just watch the seconds come down.
- 32:16Speaker 4: He was zero point eight seconds off the win by
- 32:19Speaker 4: the time that last slap rolled around on Sunday at Lamol,
- 32:22Speaker 4: and so literally one or two more laps, one more
- 32:24Speaker 4: lap he probably had PERSEEKI and two more laps he
- 32:26Speaker 4: might have won it. And I'm pretty confident that he
- 32:29Speaker 4: is going to win a Grand Prix this year. I
- 32:31Speaker 4: can absolutely see it happening, because there will just be
- 32:34Speaker 4: that day where he qualifies just that little bit better
- 32:37Speaker 4: in that it won't be amazing, but instead of being
- 32:39Speaker 4: tenth on the grid, he'll be sixth. He starts a
- 32:41Speaker 4: full row in front of where he normally starts, so
- 32:44Speaker 4: when he starts the mid race charge to the end,
- 32:47Speaker 4: instead of doing it from tenth place, you'll be doing
- 32:49Speaker 4: it from fifth place. Less traffic to overcome, less things
- 32:53Speaker 4: to trip you up on the way through. I mean,
- 32:54Speaker 4: he kind of snooking himself a little bit on Sunday
- 32:56Speaker 4: because he went for an early overtake on Couscerero. It
- 32:58Speaker 4: didn't really work. And sort of stunted his progress a
- 33:01Speaker 4: little bit. But that's all it's going to take. He'll qualify,
- 33:04Speaker 4: you know, six seventh something like that, and then he'll
- 33:07Speaker 4: win the race from there. Because what he's doing in
- 33:10Speaker 4: the second half of races right now, everyone knows it's
- 33:12Speaker 4: coming and you can do absolutely nothing about it. And
- 33:15Speaker 4: you know, it's really interesting. When they all pulled into
- 33:16Speaker 4: part for May, it was really I was really keen
- 33:20Speaker 4: to see the shot where they shove all the three
- 33:21Speaker 4: bikes together because I wanted to see what his tires
- 33:23Speaker 4: look like relative to everybody else's. He looked like he
- 33:26Speaker 4: could have done another half of Grand Prix distance on
- 33:28Speaker 4: those things. So he's clearly got this sort of Yeah,
- 33:32Speaker 4: he's got this magic touch where he doesn't just abuse
- 33:35Speaker 4: the tire when the bike's fat with fuel and super
- 33:38Speaker 4: heavy at the start of the race. He just has
- 33:39Speaker 4: a certain technique that allows him to have so much
- 33:43Speaker 4: more at the end of the race. You combine that
- 33:45Speaker 4: with you Apriori is clearly a very very good bike
- 33:47Speaker 4: and he is going to win a Grand Prix this year.
- 33:49Speaker 4: I would absolutely put my house on it.
- 33:52Speaker 2: I've heard that speaking with some of the crew from trackhouses.
- 33:56Speaker 2: He's almost to the extreme where he conserves tires too
- 33:59Speaker 2: much because he is thinking about that full race distance.
- 34:02Speaker 2: We're quite often you know, we see the other way around.
- 34:05Speaker 2: So for him, yeah, it is really fascinating to see
- 34:07Speaker 2: if he can almost just I mean it's easy for
- 34:10Speaker 2: us to sit here on the sofa and be like, yeah,
- 34:12Speaker 2: just go do this, go do that. But I think
- 34:13Speaker 2: there's that that that point. But it's he's a diesel train.
- 34:18Speaker 2: He had to take his time. Last year, he had
- 34:20Speaker 2: to learn the tracks Alamoto GP bike. Now we're seeing
- 34:23Speaker 2: it's no one hundred percent.
- 34:24Speaker 3: Think you're right.
- 34:25Speaker 2: I think this year we will see another track house
- 34:27Speaker 2: victory and I think, yeah, I think it's going to
- 34:29Speaker 2: be i Gura. I think we saw it from Rol
- 34:31Speaker 2: last year at Phillip Island. I think now it's going
- 34:33Speaker 2: to be Iagura. And then, like I said, he scoops
- 34:36Speaker 2: over to Yamaha. But let's let's let's touch on Yamaha
- 34:40Speaker 2: this weekend and fabo can I just say off track
- 34:46Speaker 2: delivery like it's so fabuo, Like it was just fabuary
- 34:50Speaker 2: to the tea. But the coolest thing is he did
- 34:53Speaker 2: a drop of merchandise and it was only a thousand
- 34:55Speaker 2: of each item, so it was like best fun in
- 34:58Speaker 2: get it. So you'd see these caps, you see flags
- 35:01Speaker 2: the crowd here, so it's like over three hundred thousand
- 35:04Speaker 2: people here this weekend. Canal Plus is the broadcasters for
- 35:09Speaker 2: Mooto GP in France, set it with the accent and
- 35:13Speaker 2: they do a live show here on Thursday, and it's
- 35:16Speaker 2: a fabria. It's it's phenomenal fabriar the crowd when he
- 35:21Speaker 2: is out there. Then when it was Saturday night and
- 35:25Speaker 2: he launched his livery for Sunday, the helmet, the bike,
- 35:30Speaker 2: the leathers, everything. I was up in the media center
- 35:32Speaker 2: and you could just hear it going through. Like I thought,
- 35:37Speaker 2: Mark Marquez was like a like a like a celebrity.
- 35:40Speaker 3: When we go to like the Spanish races Fabio.
- 35:43Speaker 2: Cordero but also for Zako, they would come past, whether
- 35:47Speaker 2: it was like a session or whatnot, and then the
- 35:50Speaker 2: MC over the speaker would be like, you know, here
- 35:51Speaker 2: comes Fabrio Cordero and you could hear the entire circuit just.
- 35:59Speaker 3: Phenomenal goosebum like.
- 36:02Speaker 2: Oh it's it's Australia.
- 36:04Speaker 3: We need to get like this.
- 36:06Speaker 4: Oh man, he strikes me is like whatever whatever the
- 36:10Speaker 4: ownership of Liberty Media does for the media profile and
- 36:13Speaker 4: the cutthrough of Motor GP on a wider scale than
- 36:16Speaker 4: it already is. There's certain guys that are really benefit
- 36:19Speaker 4: from that bigger exposure and you know, being a bit
- 36:22Speaker 4: more in the sporting mainstream and quaatearero ticks every box
- 36:25Speaker 4: because there's the fashion side and the lifestyle side and
- 36:29Speaker 4: the you know, the cars and the you know, like
- 36:31Speaker 4: that you mentioned the livery it was like it was
- 36:33Speaker 4: a T shirt that he was wearing. You just basically
- 36:35Speaker 4: transported into his bike as that look to me, but
- 36:39Speaker 4: like yes, completely, But you know it's interesting right now
- 36:43Speaker 4: you mentioned that huge crowd, three hundred one thousand people
- 36:45Speaker 4: there for three or four days. Pressure is a funny
- 36:48Speaker 4: thing for home races, right because some people really don't
- 36:51Speaker 4: handle it that great. And you've seen people that have
- 36:54Speaker 4: just really struggled at their home grownd Prix, and we
- 36:56Speaker 4: see it in two Wheels and four where there's just
- 36:58Speaker 4: way too much expectation and it becomes something that almost
- 37:01Speaker 4: like is it sort of locks you up mentally or physically.
- 37:05Speaker 4: You just can't get there because you've got people pulling
- 37:07Speaker 4: at you from every different direction. And demands on your
- 37:10Speaker 4: time and you just exhaust it by the time the
- 37:11Speaker 4: race even starts. Someone like Fabio, he takes an unbelievable
- 37:17Speaker 4: amount of energy from that. It doesn't wear him at it.
- 37:20Speaker 4: Actually it's almost like an extra battery pack for him.
- 37:23Speaker 4: And so the fact that he was what half a
- 37:25Speaker 4: minute ahead of the next Beeck's Yamaha, He's within seven
- 37:28Speaker 4: seconds of the race. We're on a bike that should
- 37:29Speaker 4: be nowherey of that, Let's be perfectly honest, And it's
- 37:32Speaker 4: just testament we know how good the guy is. But
- 37:34Speaker 4: rising to the occasion with that level of support and
- 37:37Speaker 4: pressure and expectations pretty amazing. But also for him it's
- 37:42Speaker 4: not surprising. It's just kind of what he does because
- 37:43Speaker 4: he's done this year before, like he's taken pole positions
- 37:46Speaker 4: and he's had amazing results that Laman before. With that
- 37:49Speaker 4: amount of scrutiny and pressure on him, it does show
- 37:51Speaker 4: you just how good the guy is.
- 37:53Speaker 2: Oh he all we can was just riding the absolute
- 37:56Speaker 2: wheels off that Yamaha, and you can.
- 37:59Speaker 3: See it.
- 38:01Speaker 4: In the Grand Prix. He's second of the first lap,
- 38:04Speaker 4: is like, come on, what are we doing? Like, how
- 38:06Speaker 4: are you second on that thing? And you knew that
- 38:08Speaker 4: he was going to slide back through the pack a
- 38:09Speaker 4: little bit. But it wasn't like he just got annihilated
- 38:12Speaker 4: by everybody and finished twelfth or something. But to see
- 38:14Speaker 4: him in second on that bike on the first lap,
- 38:16Speaker 4: like it's one of those ones you just shake your heads, like,
- 38:18Speaker 4: how's he doing this?
- 38:20Speaker 3: No, you're so right.
- 38:21Speaker 2: He relishes in the fact that being at home, that
- 38:24Speaker 2: home environment, the fans and everything in relation. I'll say,
- 38:29Speaker 2: I remember, like Chris never really liked it. He felt
- 38:32Speaker 2: a lot of pressure. Case he was the same Senna
- 38:35Speaker 2: loves it.
- 38:36Speaker 3: Senner.
- 38:37Speaker 2: Yes, it's so funny how the riders are just so different.
- 38:42Speaker 5: Yeah, but that's not the norm though.
- 38:44Speaker 4: That's what I think is one of the most optimistic
- 38:46Speaker 4: things I am about with Ags is that he you
- 38:49Speaker 4: know a lot of people hide from that sort of stuff,
- 38:51Speaker 4: like he absolutely loves it. I remember that first Motor
- 38:54Speaker 4: two year when he finished that first podium that he had,
- 38:56Speaker 4: so it was at twenty four where I've never seen
- 38:59Speaker 4: someone busy off the bike at a Grand Prix week
- 39:01Speaker 4: and he's just getting pulled left and right, and yet
- 39:03Speaker 4: he goes out there and has what at the time
- 39:05Speaker 4: was the best result you'd ever had. Quatrero's in that
- 39:07Speaker 4: category too, But there's a lot of guys like the
- 39:09Speaker 4: way your brother was or Casey was. Quite frankly, that's
- 39:12Speaker 4: how most people are. I mean my experience on four
- 39:15Speaker 4: wheels with Australian drivers at the Australian Formula One Grand Prix.
- 39:18Speaker 4: I remember, you know, early Mark Webber days or Daniel
- 39:20Speaker 4: Ricardo days. They were just shattered by the time they
- 39:23Speaker 4: actually got to get to the race. Because I've just
- 39:26Speaker 4: spent the previous eight hours being taken somewhere different every
- 39:29Speaker 4: ten minutes to do something for somebody else. Your whole
- 39:32Speaker 4: preparation's completely gone. You've got every random relative that you
- 39:36Speaker 4: probably haven't seen for fifteen years texting you say, oh
- 39:38Speaker 4: you've got any spare tickets and can I get into this?
- 39:40Speaker 4: And you know, all this sort of stuff, and yet
- 39:42Speaker 4: you know, Katuro just handles it like a pro and
- 39:44Speaker 4: it actually gives him life.
- 39:46Speaker 5: It doesn't.
- 39:46Speaker 4: It doesn't seem to be a drain on him anyway.
- 39:49Speaker 3: It's crazy.
- 39:50Speaker 2: I don't know if if people at home know how
- 39:52Speaker 2: much like media they these riders actually have to do.
- 39:55Speaker 2: So I flew into Paris earlier because we got invited
- 39:58Speaker 2: to a really the event with Joge Martine, so you
- 40:01Speaker 2: would have seen I got a chance to do a
- 40:03Speaker 2: quick this all that social video with Joge. Literally two
- 40:08Speaker 2: shops down was the Duke Catti dealership where the Mark
- 40:11Speaker 2: Marquez was doing it with du Caddie. We're on the
- 40:13Speaker 2: Champs Lease, We're right near the archty tree on from
- 40:15Speaker 2: right in the middle of Paris. These guys are doing
- 40:18Speaker 2: this before they've even got to the track, and then
- 40:19Speaker 2: when they get to the track, it's press, it's media,
- 40:21Speaker 2: it's this, it's that.
- 40:22Speaker 3: Is, it is non stop. Then they have to go a.
- 40:25Speaker 2: Muscle a bike around and then to do crazy stupid
- 40:29Speaker 2: things on a circuit. Like I mean, their job's pretty
- 40:32Speaker 2: cool and we get to talk about it. So I mean,
- 40:34Speaker 2: I'm not taking like the same like go and cry
- 40:36Speaker 2: me a river for it, but is phenomenal what these
- 40:39Speaker 2: guys have to do on and off track. Anyway, we're
- 40:42Speaker 2: fully side quested here. I'm back to racing. Just looking
- 40:44Speaker 2: at the results, did you Antonio. I'm not surprised that
- 40:47Speaker 2: he's still up there. He is, like right now, I'm
- 40:50Speaker 2: the best ju Caddi rider just seems to be gelling
- 40:53Speaker 2: with whatever's going on. But did you know because weekend
- 40:56Speaker 2: did you see?
- 40:57Speaker 3: Oh sorry, just talk about the arrow?
- 41:00Speaker 2: Mark was the only one who was running different arrow
- 41:02Speaker 2: than the rest of them this weekend.
- 41:05Speaker 5: Did notice that? Did you? Has been?
- 41:07Speaker 4: He's having an amazing year. Quite frankly, it's an amazing year.
- 41:10Speaker 4: That's probably got him a factory contract with Katie which
- 41:12Speaker 4: is yet to be announced, but that sort of broke
- 41:13Speaker 4: over the course of the weekend as well. I'm really
- 41:17Speaker 4: happy for him because I think he goes about it
- 41:19Speaker 4: the right way. But it's been really interesting this whole season.
- 41:22Speaker 4: He's been Adamant's like, don't add stuff to my bike.
- 41:24Speaker 4: Just leave me to get on with this and I
- 41:26Speaker 4: will understand this bike, and it seems to be working.
- 41:29Speaker 4: But the thing I was going to say is, I'm
- 41:31Speaker 4: hoping that some of the listeners saw this, But did
- 41:33Speaker 4: you see what happened at the last corner when he
- 41:36Speaker 4: overtook Pedro Acosta and the fact that that got a
- 41:38Speaker 4: little bit surly afterwards?
- 41:39Speaker 5: You're on top of this one.
- 41:41Speaker 3: No, I'm not fill me in.
- 41:44Speaker 4: Okay, So two corners from the end of the race,
- 41:46Speaker 4: Degan Antonio makes this amazing pass of a Costa for
- 41:50Speaker 4: fourth at into the.
- 41:51Speaker 5: Last two left handers.
- 41:53Speaker 4: That recorded Mott at right hand is rather at record
- 41:55Speaker 4: a Mott, which is not an overtaking place at all.
- 41:59Speaker 4: And when he accelerated out of the last corner, he
- 42:02Speaker 4: looked back over his shoulder at A Costa, and I
- 42:05Speaker 4: don't know whether he was taunting him or whether he
- 42:07Speaker 4: was just giving them well, I've just got you there
- 42:08Speaker 4: when you were a bit sleeping there, ild mate sort
- 42:10Speaker 4: of thing, and a cost was pissed about it. Afterwards,
- 42:13Speaker 4: He's not happy at all about it. And Gen Antonio
- 42:17Speaker 4: only reference he made to it was he said, well,
- 42:20Speaker 4: I did this in a Moto three race here in
- 42:22Speaker 4: twenty eighteen, Tobacco.
- 42:23Speaker 5: Bozeki, you can actually go find it.
- 42:25Speaker 4: He actually did it on the last lap of the
- 42:27Speaker 4: Moto three race and surprised Berzeki so much that Bozeki
- 42:31Speaker 4: high sighted in the last corner. And the rider riding
- 42:34Speaker 4: behind Berzeki in the last corner of that race that
- 42:36Speaker 4: also crashed out was a guy named Jorge Martin.
- 42:38Speaker 5: Whatever happened to those two guys funnily enough, and so.
- 42:41Speaker 4: The Jen Antonio ended up winning that race, but he
- 42:43Speaker 4: ended up losing the race win because of a penalty
- 42:45Speaker 4: that he picked up earlier in the race, but regardless,
- 42:48Speaker 4: he just stuck at the end of the inside of the
- 42:49Speaker 4: second last corner and just caught Bozeki napping. And this
- 42:52Speaker 4: was twenty eighteen, and so gen Antonio said, I was
- 42:55Speaker 4: trying to make an attack earlier in the lap, wasn't
- 42:58Speaker 4: close enough, and then I remembered what happened to here
- 43:00Speaker 4: when I was in Moto three, and I thought, I'm
- 43:02Speaker 4: going to try this, and he put the move on.
- 43:04Speaker 4: A Costa takes fourth place and then looks back over
- 43:07Speaker 4: his shoulder at him as he comes out of the
- 43:09Speaker 4: last corner, and a Costa was just like, nobody looks
- 43:12Speaker 4: back at me when they've passed me like that. So
- 43:14Speaker 4: this one's going to rumble a little bit, I think,
- 43:16Speaker 4: because Pedro could be pretty hot edited as we know,
- 43:19Speaker 4: he's also a guy I reckon that keeps receipts.
- 43:21Speaker 5: He'll remember that one.
- 43:22Speaker 4: And Di gen Antonio is just given him the look
- 43:25Speaker 4: over the shoulder like yeah, I've got you covered there,
- 43:27Speaker 4: and you know, ended up taking fourth byo point one
- 43:30Speaker 4: or whatever it was. But with an attack. We didn't
- 43:32Speaker 4: see it at the time because they were following the
- 43:33Speaker 4: three priliers over the line and I got winded. I
- 43:36Speaker 4: sort of went back in the coverage trying to find
- 43:38Speaker 4: some on boards and then saw it. Went oh boy, okay,
- 43:41Speaker 4: there's something to this. So when you get off doing
- 43:42Speaker 4: this podcast, you need to go find it.
- 43:44Speaker 2: I will I will have for those listening at home,
- 43:46Speaker 2: we'll definitely try and get that up to the show.
- 43:49Speaker 3: Yeah, same thing.
- 43:49Speaker 2: I didn't get to see that on the broadcast, but
- 43:51Speaker 2: that that's brilliant. Yeah, Pedro Acosta fifth and then home
- 43:55Speaker 2: hero Fabiocudoro. I just want to say this weekend as well.
- 44:00Speaker 2: I think Zarko did really really well this weekend. You know,
- 44:03Speaker 2: we saw leading practice sessions, we saw him like we
- 44:07Speaker 2: know what the Honda's capable of and what is not
- 44:09Speaker 2: capable of, and racing. He has had so much going
- 44:13Speaker 2: on like elsewhere with things. So I think for Zarco
- 44:17Speaker 2: once again his home race, I think, well, if they Chippo,
- 44:21Speaker 2: I think.
- 44:22Speaker 3: He can't stop to him. He is doing so well
- 44:25Speaker 3: on that Honda.
- 44:26Speaker 2: Being you know, one of the oldest guys on the grid.
- 44:29Speaker 2: I was really impressed this weekend, really really impressed.
- 44:32Speaker 4: He It was a different I mean, he's obviously been
- 44:35Speaker 4: around a fair while, but coming back here after being
- 44:37Speaker 4: the first Frenchman to win your home Grand Prix for
- 44:40Speaker 4: seventy years or whatever it was last year, the pressure
- 44:43Speaker 4: on him and the expectations on him was massive, and
- 44:46Speaker 4: you know a little bit of inside baseball as a
- 44:49Speaker 4: saying goes here, and you would have seen this on
- 44:50Speaker 4: the Saturday night or Sunday morning at Lebon where the
- 44:55Speaker 4: Elsie Ours press team have basically came out with a
- 44:58Speaker 4: little statement and said, look, you guys, it's like, can
- 45:00Speaker 4: we just not really talk about last year anymore? Because
- 45:03Speaker 4: you know, every whatever result Johan gets today, it's going
- 45:07Speaker 4: to be, well, what about last year? Is like, can
- 45:08Speaker 4: we just sort of park twenty twenty five and do
- 45:11Speaker 4: the twenty twenty six thing and move on? Because they
- 45:13Speaker 4: could obviously see how it was going and it was
- 45:15Speaker 4: clearly getting to a point where he gets sick of
- 45:17Speaker 4: talking about something that happened twelve months ago. Amazing as
- 45:20Speaker 4: it was, but that wasn't going to help him on
- 45:22Speaker 4: Sunday and there was just a little bit of like,
- 45:24Speaker 4: we've probably done this story to death, can we just
- 45:25Speaker 4: drop it a little bit?
- 45:26Speaker 5: Which I thought was kind of interesting.
- 45:29Speaker 3: No, definitely. I think it was.
- 45:31Speaker 2: It makes sense because we need to focus on it
- 45:32Speaker 2: and we had like such a phenomenal weekend. Anyway, rain
- 45:35Speaker 2: I did a piece first Fox. Look at the way
- 45:37Speaker 2: they're going, it's.
- 45:38Speaker 3: Definitely going to rain.
- 45:39Speaker 2: Oh my god, maybe it's give me two thousand and
- 45:41Speaker 2: seven vibes.
- 45:41Speaker 3: Maybe Jack will be in for the win. And obviously
- 45:44Speaker 3: that I've got.
- 45:45Speaker 4: To say my predictions of the weekend I predict. I
- 45:48Speaker 4: think my headline for my preview had the word rain,
- 45:50Speaker 4: and I've spent about three paragraphs talking about rain, so that.
- 45:53Speaker 5: Was really really bad.
- 45:54Speaker 4: I am going to put my hand up and give
- 45:56Speaker 4: myself a victory lap because this doesn't happen very often.
- 45:59Speaker 4: This right here picked Juje Martine to win the race,
- 46:02Speaker 4: considering he had won one for two years. Golf quite
- 46:05Speaker 4: for me, and if I get the next one wrong
- 46:07Speaker 4: for Catalonia, I am not going to mention eshell, yes.
- 46:11Speaker 3: So fast. Honestly, that's so fair. Like I wouldn't have
- 46:14Speaker 3: picked Peko Vanyaya to be.
- 46:16Speaker 2: On pole, yeah, especially after a lot that marked.
- 46:18Speaker 3: It in Q one, et cetera.
- 46:20Speaker 2: So yeah, honestly, you just don't know, and that's what
- 46:22Speaker 2: we love about proto GP before we get onto Barcelona,
- 46:27Speaker 2: which is literally back to backs. Can't be the back
- 46:29Speaker 2: to backs are already happening. Let's touch Moto to Sena
- 46:32Speaker 2: agis seventh, he said. Overall decent weekend. Obviously coming from
- 46:37Speaker 2: wins and whatnot. You want to be back up on
- 46:39Speaker 2: the top step. But I think for him consistency is key.
- 46:43Speaker 3: We spoke about that.
- 46:44Speaker 2: If the rumors are true and he is going up
- 46:46Speaker 2: to Moto GP next year, the best thing for him
- 46:48Speaker 2: is to say, ideally top five, I mean under top
- 46:51Speaker 2: ten to great, but just stay consistent.
- 46:54Speaker 5: Yeah. Completely.
- 46:55Speaker 4: This is one of those race weekends where it never
- 46:57Speaker 4: really quite looked like it was going to happen, like
- 46:59Speaker 4: it had happened at the previous too with Harath and
- 47:01Speaker 4: Texas so bank some decent points. He didn't drop a
- 47:03Speaker 4: place in the championship, but he's still third. There'll be
- 47:06Speaker 4: better races ahead for him, I'm sure. I mean, he's
- 47:07Speaker 4: done a million laps around Barcelona, so he'll he'll be
- 47:10Speaker 4: ready for that.
- 47:12Speaker 2: And then in Moto three, jolieh it was tricky conditions
- 47:16Speaker 2: because the track was where like we could see that
- 47:19Speaker 2: just tuck the front like there's a Looking at the
- 47:23Speaker 2: list of non finishes, there's quite a few because it
- 47:25Speaker 2: is just those conditions. But I tell you what, I
- 47:28Speaker 2: was talking to him this weekend and I said, how
- 47:30Speaker 2: you feel and how you're going with the Honda, and
- 47:32Speaker 2: he goes harassed for me, just did I couldn't gel
- 47:36Speaker 2: with it. He goes coming into this weekend, He's like,
- 47:38Speaker 2: I just felt so comfortable. And we saw that he
- 47:40Speaker 2: was on the front row for the Moto three race
- 47:42Speaker 2: as well, so scenes like now things are starting to
- 47:45Speaker 2: come into place with Joel on the Honda.
- 47:48Speaker 4: Yeah, agreed, it's the most comfortable he's looked all year.
- 47:50Speaker 4: I think, like there's been a few races where you
- 47:52Speaker 4: watch them earth he's not really sort of in the mix,
- 47:54Speaker 4: he's not in that front group. But most convincing weekend
- 47:57Speaker 4: he's had. And I'm sure he'd be disaported to go
- 47:59Speaker 4: down from it good qualifying like that, but he wasn't
- 48:01Speaker 4: exactly on his own. There plenty of guys did that
- 48:03Speaker 4: over the course of the weekend. But yeah, five rounds
- 48:06Speaker 4: in the best one he's had so far, and yeah,
- 48:08Speaker 4: let's hope it's the springboard to something better exactly.
- 48:11Speaker 2: So, like we said, back to back weekends. The Moto
- 48:13Speaker 2: GP is heading to Barcelona Circuit de Catalunya, which is
- 48:18Speaker 2: just outside the city, a circuit, like we said, that
- 48:20Speaker 2: gets used literally every day. So coming into this weekend, Matt,
- 48:25Speaker 2: you know the age old question, the age old question.
- 48:29Speaker 2: Who do you thinks it's going to be this weekend?
- 48:31Speaker 2: Because we know Mark Marcus is out, he's not racing.
- 48:34Speaker 2: Maverick Vinalez has also said that he's not going to
- 48:37Speaker 2: be here. So who do you think is on for
- 48:39Speaker 2: this weekend?
- 48:41Speaker 5: I'd be looking.
- 48:43Speaker 4: I think the Aprilia now used to be a bike
- 48:45Speaker 4: that only worked at Barcelona. I think it's now a
- 48:47Speaker 4: bike that works at Barcelona and everywhere else. So it'll
- 48:50Speaker 4: be really interesting to see whether they translate. Now, this
- 48:54Speaker 4: is a very very slippery racetrack for not because of
- 48:57Speaker 4: the surface. It's an old surface and as you said,
- 49:01Speaker 4: it gets used so often that sometimes it looks like
- 49:04Speaker 4: they're riding in the wet around here with the amount
- 49:06Speaker 4: of just lack of grip and inability to get purchase
- 49:09Speaker 4: on this track. So I'm wondering if someone who's able
- 49:13Speaker 4: to preserve tire life on a normal in inverted Commas
- 49:17Speaker 4: circuit is not going to have that same advantage as
- 49:19Speaker 4: they normally have, so I'm not sure this is an
- 49:20Speaker 4: Igura weekend necessarily. Someone to watch out for who was
- 49:25Speaker 4: basically invisible until he crashed at Lamon was Alex Marquez.
- 49:28Speaker 4: This is an Alex Marquez track. A lot of right
- 49:31Speaker 4: handers won here last year against Mark when Mark was
- 49:33Speaker 4: on that crazy what fifteen races in a row that
- 49:36Speaker 4: he won between the sprints and the Grand Prix. I
- 49:39Speaker 4: don't see Alex Marquez having this sort of season he
- 49:42Speaker 4: had last year where he was just there all the
- 49:44Speaker 4: time because he was on the GP twenty four. It's
- 49:46Speaker 4: going to be a lot more spiky this year. There'll
- 49:48Speaker 4: be certain tracks that he was going.
- 49:50Speaker 5: To be good. He was always going to be good
- 49:51Speaker 5: at Herrath.
- 49:52Speaker 4: I think he'll be good in Malaysia because he's always
- 49:54Speaker 4: really good there. Castilogy is a circuit of a lot
- 49:57Speaker 4: of right handers, and you know, we know that he's
- 50:00Speaker 4: not on the standard of the Apillia right now, but
- 50:03Speaker 4: I'm not sure if you can win it. But I
- 50:05Speaker 4: would be very surprised if he's not front row podium
- 50:07Speaker 4: this weekend in that sort of area because it's a
- 50:10Speaker 4: track where he can really make a difference. But it's
- 50:12Speaker 4: such a weird race track in that it's hard to
- 50:15Speaker 4: tell from the TV pictures. I've been there a bunch
- 50:18Speaker 4: of times for two and four wheels, and it's it's
- 50:21Speaker 4: like riding in the wet a lot of the time
- 50:23Speaker 4: because the surface is just old and very, very worn.
- 50:26Speaker 4: So it's weird. This year we're back in the early
- 50:29Speaker 4: part of the year again. Last year it was round
- 50:31Speaker 4: fifteen Catalonia. It was super late in the season. We're
- 50:34Speaker 4: sort of back in that traditional May spot now and
- 50:36Speaker 4: I haven't looked at any forecast. You're living it, so
- 50:38Speaker 4: you'll have to tell me. But when it gets hot
- 50:41Speaker 4: there and the track temp is super high, that thing
- 50:43Speaker 4: is like a skating rink. So it's a lot of
- 50:46Speaker 4: you know, front end front end washouts, and you know,
- 50:49Speaker 4: we've seen some pretty dramatic races there over the years
- 50:51Speaker 4: because there just isn't any group. It is a bit
- 50:53Speaker 4: like riding in the wet. So if it's super hot
- 50:55Speaker 4: there over the course of the weekend, then yeah, it
- 50:57Speaker 4: could be pretty unpredictable.
- 50:58Speaker 5: I think we'll.
- 51:00Speaker 2: Remember back when it replaced Valencia the Solidarity Grand Prix
- 51:05Speaker 2: and Martine did the double right, he was on fire.
- 51:08Speaker 5: Then won the championship.
- 51:10Speaker 3: Well obviously yeah, but he.
- 51:11Speaker 4: Yeah, yeah, but it's weird in the you know that
- 51:14Speaker 4: was right at the end of the season when the
- 51:16Speaker 4: problem with the surface was that it was too cold
- 51:18Speaker 4: rather than too hot. But yeah, you get a really
- 51:20Speaker 4: really hot you know, early sort of you know, precursor
- 51:24Speaker 4: to summer in Barcelona, and it can get super super
- 51:26Speaker 4: hot there. Yeah, the track is it's just weird, like
- 51:30Speaker 4: you just look at on the TV. It's a weird
- 51:31Speaker 4: color and it's just it looks mega slippery, looks look
- 51:35Speaker 4: it's got too much oil in it or something.
- 51:36Speaker 5: It's super super slippery.
- 51:38Speaker 4: And yeah, the one thing we are going to see,
- 51:40Speaker 4: of course in Barcelona, it's the best slow mo shot
- 51:43Speaker 4: of the year. Joge Martine three turn five. You know
- 51:45Speaker 4: you're going to get to see that shot where basically
- 51:47Speaker 4: his entire body on the super slow is going to
- 51:50Speaker 4: be dragging itself along the ground.
- 51:51Speaker 5: I'm very much looking forward to seeing that.
- 51:54Speaker 3: Oh, that is the best. That is the best.
- 51:55Speaker 2: Note Right now, it is nearly twelve noon and it
- 51:59Speaker 2: is twenty degrees here, so it's quite the cooler than
- 52:01Speaker 2: it normally is this time a year in Barcelona, so
- 52:04Speaker 2: keep that in mind for you predictions and I guess
- 52:06Speaker 2: you're betting for this weekend, But.
- 52:08Speaker 3: Motor GP is back.
- 52:10Speaker 2: We love back to back Grand Prix because we just
