- 0:15SPEAKER_01: Maxwell, it's final.
- 0:18SPEAKER_01: For listeners who are tuning in, we fucked up the first version of that.
- 0:21SPEAKER_01: And Sam did a note-for-note re-issue until he started laughing.
- 0:24SPEAKER_01: Yeah, I thought I'd just, you know.
- 0:25SPEAKER_01: It's beautiful though.
- 0:26SPEAKER_00: Bring the energy, bring the zest, bring the pep.
- 0:28SPEAKER_00: I feel serenaded.
- 0:29SPEAKER_00: Serenaded?
- 0:30SPEAKER_00: Yeah.
- 0:30SPEAKER_00: Lemonades brother.
- 0:31SPEAKER_00: Serenated.
- 0:32SPEAKER_00: Serenaded.
- 0:32SPEAKER_00: Yeah.
- 0:33SPEAKER_00: Don't talk about nodded in here.
- 0:35SPEAKER_00: That's gross.
- 0:36SPEAKER_00: How are you, Maxwell?
- 0:37SPEAKER_00: I'm uh quite well, Sam.
- 0:38SPEAKER_00: How are you doing?
- 0:39SPEAKER_00: Good, thanks, mate.
- 0:40SPEAKER_00: Love and busy.
- 0:41SPEAKER_00: Yeah, the kids.
- 0:41SPEAKER_00: Good.
- 0:42SPEAKER_01: How about those lions on the weekend?
- 0:44SPEAKER_00: How about those dockers on the weekend?
- 0:46SPEAKER_00: Keep it 50-50.
- 0:47SPEAKER_00: We don't record before the grand final.
- 0:49SPEAKER_00: No, I think we should, I think we should make a bold prediction.
- 0:52SPEAKER_00: I want scores now.
- 0:53SPEAKER_00: Final scores.
- 0:54SPEAKER_00: Well, I said earlier last week Lions by 56.
- 0:57SPEAKER_00: I think Lions wiped the floor.
- 1:00SPEAKER_00: Yeah, wow.
- 1:01SPEAKER_00: I think Frio choke.
- 1:03SPEAKER_00: Ooh.
- 1:03SPEAKER_00: Um, they can't handle the East Coast.
- 1:06SPEAKER_00: I just they don't play well at the G.
- 1:08SPEAKER_00: The Lions have been there the last three years.
- 1:10SPEAKER_00: A lot of Fremantle players haven't played in a grand final.
- 1:13SPEAKER_00: Most, if not all, of the Lions players have, minus two.
- 1:16SPEAKER_00: So when you're playing a team that's won the last two, 20 of the 22 have played in a grand final.
- 1:22SPEAKER_00: Um and Lockie Neal not only got off the charge, but he got the Norm Smith in Games.
- 1:28SPEAKER_00: I asked for a score, and Sam's giving me half the fucking game here.
- 1:31SPEAKER_00: I've given you if all goes to plan, I'm taking home 12 grand in a multi.
- 1:37SPEAKER_00: And I don't bet, but for the grand final, I'm like, fuck it.
- 1:39SPEAKER_00: Christ.
- 1:40SPEAKER_00: I want to clarify, we do not encourage gambling on this podcast.
- 1:42SPEAKER_00: No, we don't, but I was just feeling brave.
- 1:44SPEAKER_00: I only put five bucks on.
- 1:45SPEAKER_00: It's like a 30-leg multi.
- 1:47SPEAKER_00: Jesus Christ.
- 1:49SPEAKER_00: Anyway, what are you thinking?
- 1:50SPEAKER_01: Well, sorry, just that score line you that you uh didn't quite get to there.
- 1:53SPEAKER_01: I said 56 points.
- 1:54SPEAKER_01: Are you standing by that?
- 1:55SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 1:56SPEAKER_01: Oh, okay.
- 1:56SPEAKER_01: Okay, there.
- 1:57SPEAKER_01: Fair enough.
- 1:57SPEAKER_01: I think uh Brisbane will take the win, but I think it'll be closer.
- 1:59SPEAKER_01: I think we'll have a uh I think we'll have a pretty tight game up until about halfway through the fourth quarter, and then Brisbane will just absolutely start tearing away.
- 2:05SPEAKER_01: I reckon we're looking at uh Brisbane by Brisbane by three goals, Brisbane by 18.
- 2:11SPEAKER_00: Who wins norm?
- 2:15SPEAKER_01: No, I'm just gonna I'm not fully analysing the game.
- 2:17SPEAKER_00: He doesn't know the players.
- 2:18SPEAKER_00: Like to say Will Ashcroft.
- 2:21SPEAKER_00: No, Zach Bailey.
- 2:22SPEAKER_00: I don't want to say Cam Rayner.
- 2:25SPEAKER_00: That's a question for off here.
- 2:27SPEAKER_00: I'll ask you that later.
- 2:27SPEAKER_01: Harris Andrews.
- 2:29SPEAKER_01: Go with the chief.
- 2:30SPEAKER_01: Go with Harris.
- 2:31SPEAKER_01: Sure.
- 2:32SPEAKER_01: Harris Andrews, sure.
- 2:33SPEAKER_01: He's not gonna win.
- 2:34SPEAKER_01: We are now uh about three minutes into this music podcast.
- 2:38SPEAKER_01: I know we've talked about it's football.
- 2:40SPEAKER_00: But it's important that we talk about Australian Reels football because you gave me some homework from an Australian artist.
- 2:45SPEAKER_01: I did, I gave from a Brisbane artist, even.
- 2:48SPEAKER_00: Yeah, Young Franco.
- 2:49SPEAKER_00: Yeah.
- 2:50SPEAKER_00: You gave me it's Frankie, baby.
- 2:52SPEAKER_00: And when I was researching this, I listened to the album, but I kept thinking his name was Little Jethro.
- 2:58SPEAKER_00: Little Jethro?
- 2:58SPEAKER_00: So in my thing it's Jethro Tull.
- 3:00SPEAKER_00: Little Jethro.
- 3:01SPEAKER_00: Why did you where did Little Jethro come from?
- 3:03SPEAKER_00: Lil Franco.
- 3:04SPEAKER_00: What's his name?
- 3:05SPEAKER_00: Young Franco.
- 3:07SPEAKER_01: So close.
- 3:08SPEAKER_00: Young Young Jethro.
- 3:10SPEAKER_00: Young Jethro, yeah.
- 3:11SPEAKER_00: Little Lil Jethro.
- 3:12SPEAKER_00: That's his rap name.
- 3:13SPEAKER_00: It is.
- 3:14SPEAKER_00: But uh you gave me It's Frankie Baby, and it's a journey.
- 3:17SPEAKER_00: This album goes through so many different um periods of RB and rap from across the world.
- 3:25SPEAKER_00: It's got tidbits from the US, it's got little UK influences, it's got Australianisms in there, and it's got so many different sounds from the 80s, 90s, and now.
- 3:36SPEAKER_00: Oh, big one oh five.
- 3:38SPEAKER_00: Fuck yeah.
- 3:38SPEAKER_00: No thanks.
- 3:39SPEAKER_00: Who listens to radio?
- 3:41SPEAKER_00: No one.
- 3:42SPEAKER_00: Exactly.
- 3:42SPEAKER_00: Trust me, I've seen the numbers.
- 3:43SPEAKER_00: Yeah, no one does.
- 3:45SPEAKER_00: Um, but it explores so many different electronic sounds and it blends this whole you know, decades worth of music into an album in a really cool way.
- 3:56SPEAKER_00: I think for me, this album, listening through it, I was thinking it's not for everyone, but there's a song on there for everyone.
- 4:03SPEAKER_01: Yep, okay.
- 4:04SPEAKER_00: As a whole, it's so different that you're not you're probably not gonna like all of it.
- 4:09SPEAKER_00: A very niche percentage will, but there is something for everyone.
- 4:12SPEAKER_00: Yep, yeah, I'm following you.
- 4:13SPEAKER_00: So track by track, TBT, TBT, wake up, the opening track is a bell toesn't not not easing you into it, does it?
- 4:22SPEAKER_00: Does not take a backward step, it's got that like spoken word UK rap um like energy to it.
- 4:30SPEAKER_00: Yeah, it's got this like really funky walking bass as if touch sensitive was on the track.
- 4:36SPEAKER_00: It's so simple, but it's so catchy.
- 4:38SPEAKER_00: It's very like idols go funky.
- 4:41SPEAKER_00: Yeah, yeah, yeah.
- 4:42SPEAKER_00: Which I was a big fan of.
- 4:43SPEAKER_00: It's a good start.
- 4:44SPEAKER_00: Yep.
- 4:44SPEAKER_00: Then track two is a complete switch up.
- 4:46SPEAKER_00: So you go daydreaming, which is disco influenced and feels 80 synths and it feels shoulder boppy.
- 4:53SPEAKER_00: Yeah, exactly.
- 4:54SPEAKER_00: But it makes that's not on film.
- 4:56SPEAKER_00: Uh, but it makes me want to pull my pants up near my nippies.
- 4:59SPEAKER_00: I don't know where that was going for a second.
- 5:00SPEAKER_00: Up my nippies and uh put a blazer on and just have a little bit of a boogie John Travolta style.
- 5:05SPEAKER_00: I thought we had to find out about the surprise penis.
- 5:07SPEAKER_00: Uh no, that's uh specifically Wednesday's show last week.
- 5:12SPEAKER_00: It felt very cliently liaison.
- 5:14SPEAKER_00: Yeah, yeah, yeah.
- 5:15SPEAKER_00: I'm feeling you.
- 5:15SPEAKER_00: So yeah.
- 5:16SPEAKER_00: Well, at least buy me dinner.
- 5:18SPEAKER_00: Uh stunt like this.
- 5:19SPEAKER_00: Yeah.
- 5:20SPEAKER_00: What did you call me?
- 5:22SPEAKER_00: You mother stunter.
- 5:24SPEAKER_00: Classic.
- 5:25SPEAKER_00: Anyway, let's go.
- 5:26SPEAKER_00: Cutting stunts.
- 5:28SPEAKER_00: Cunning stunts.
- 5:29SPEAKER_00: Stunt in any moment.
- 5:31SPEAKER_00: Uh I said here, like if Missy Elliott went UK.
- 5:34SPEAKER_01: Yeah, sure, okay.
- 5:35SPEAKER_00: In a way.
- 5:36SPEAKER_00: Like not lose control, just like everyday Missy Elliott.
- 5:39SPEAKER_00: Yeah, yeah.
- 5:39SPEAKER_00: Um, but it's like a stripped back EDM rap thing.
- 5:44SPEAKER_00: It was kind of cool.
- 5:45SPEAKER_00: Yeah.
- 5:45SPEAKER_00: Not really for me, but I appreciated it.
- 5:48SPEAKER_00: Fallen Apart, very gorillas, but also like very 90s rap.
- 5:52SPEAKER_00: Going on, felt straight out of a Pink Panther S album.
- 5:56SPEAKER_00: Um, feel good sort of sunset vibes, that one.
- 5:59SPEAKER_00: Yep.
- 6:00SPEAKER_00: Lose Control, very Mac Miller.
- 6:02SPEAKER_00: I said Mac Miller R song.
- 6:04SPEAKER_00: Mac Miller R song.
- 6:05SPEAKER_00: Yeah.
- 6:06SPEAKER_00: Lo-fi rap vibes, like put it on in the background of a late night when you're getting, you know, sleepy and sexy.
- 6:13SPEAKER_01: Yeah, yeah, yeah.
- 6:14SPEAKER_00: Hi.
- 6:16SPEAKER_00: Paramela, I've thought about you all day.
- 6:19SPEAKER_00: Oh, don't you spat on that thing?
- 6:21SPEAKER_00: Yeah, don't look nervous, Paramela.
- 6:24SPEAKER_00: Talking about my hand, everyone.
- 6:25SPEAKER_00: Don't be creepy.
- 6:27SPEAKER_00: Uh, sing it back, a banger.
- 6:29SPEAKER_00: It was good for a Sunday AVO drink.
- 6:30SPEAKER_01: Yep.
- 6:31SPEAKER_00: Up and about for a coffee rave, you know.
- 6:33SPEAKER_00: Yep, yep, yep.
- 6:33SPEAKER_00: Um, my worst nightmare.
- 6:35SPEAKER_00: Or even a singles event.
- 6:36SPEAKER_00: Shout out dating with Gail.
- 6:37SPEAKER_00: Oh, well, if that's if what's that's what you know, so tickles your fancy.
- 6:41SPEAKER_00: Well, it's not dating with Gail, it's dating Gail.
- 6:43SPEAKER_00: Well, yeah, yeah.
- 6:44SPEAKER_00: Anyway, I hope you find the love of your life, Gail.
- 6:47SPEAKER_00: Shout out our Brisbane audience.
- 6:49SPEAKER_00: Give thanks, give praise.
- 6:51SPEAKER_00: This was my favourite of the album.
- 6:53SPEAKER_00: Interesting, okay.
- 6:54SPEAKER_00: The break beat is hard as fire.
- 6:55SPEAKER_00: Yeah, it's pretty cool.
- 6:56SPEAKER_00: It's so sick.
- 6:56SPEAKER_00: The energy was needed because for a while there, like stunt like this falling apart, going on, lose control.
- 7:02SPEAKER_00: It all kind of molds into one and they all have different energies and vibes, but there's nothing like in your face, upbeat, get up and about.
- 7:11SPEAKER_01: Yep.
- 7:11SPEAKER_00: Whereas give thanks, give praise very much was.
- 7:14SPEAKER_00: It was like very 90s, the flow of the vocals was insane.
- 7:20SPEAKER_00: Like I was a big, big fan of that one.
- 7:23SPEAKER_00: Juice, I think you've brought this to the show before.
- 7:25SPEAKER_00: I have brought definitely brought juice to the show before, yeah.
- 7:27SPEAKER_00: And I said it's sort of like if Daniel Caesar wasn't depressed.
- 7:30SPEAKER_01: Yeah, that's fair enough.
- 7:32SPEAKER_01: Yeah, you got the you got the juice.
- 7:33SPEAKER_00: Exactly.
- 7:34SPEAKER_00: Yeah, yeah.
- 7:34SPEAKER_00: It's it feels very Daniel Caesar in the vocal, but if Daniel Caesar fucking cracked a smile and got on with it, yeah.
- 7:40SPEAKER_01: Daniel Caesar goes for a dance.
- 7:41SPEAKER_00: Exactly.
- 7:41SPEAKER_00: Dance your Caesar.
- 7:43SPEAKER_00: Daniel Caesar, that's quite hard to wrap your head around.
- 7:45SPEAKER_00: And then the last one, Sunrise.
- 7:47SPEAKER_00: I said it's John Mayer if he saw a Spanish sunset.
- 7:51SPEAKER_00: Juan Mayer.
- 7:52SPEAKER_00: Juan Mayer, which I think is pretty accurate.
- 7:55SPEAKER_00: It's sort of sensual, it's mellow, but then it's got this cool little um European vibe to it.
- 8:01SPEAKER_00: Yeah.
- 8:01SPEAKER_00: Um, but overall, I did enjoy the album.
- 8:03SPEAKER_00: I'm not too familiar with young Francis, but yeah, I had fun with it.
- 8:09SPEAKER_00: I probably wouldn't revisit it in a hurry, but if he was performing at a festival and I needed to just kill an afternoon before I went and saw my favorite band, I'd I'd go see him.
- 8:18SPEAKER_01: I've seen him play a few times with DJ Sets um at venues around Brisbane uh back in the day.
- 8:24SPEAKER_01: Always a good time.
- 8:25SPEAKER_00: Yeah.
- 8:25SPEAKER_01: Um, and I think what he's done so well on this record is like, as you said, he's blended so many different types of EDM sound into this record.
- 8:36SPEAKER_01: And but I think he's pulled together like such a good list of collaborators that he's pulled, like that he's working with his album.
- 8:41SPEAKER_01: He's got Denzel Carey, excuse me, he's got Parallel, he's got uh Earth Gang, he's got Pell, Maroki, Masterpiece, Frank Moody, like all these different people popping all these songs, and I'm just like fuck yeah.
- 8:53SPEAKER_01: Fuck yeah.
- 8:54SPEAKER_01: I really enjoy the vibe that you're putting down here.
- 8:56SPEAKER_00: Yeah, it's collaboration stations, if you will.
- 8:59SPEAKER_00: Yeah, but um no, I very much it opened my mind to a lot of things, which was good.
- 9:04SPEAKER_00: Yeah, enjoyed it.
- 9:05SPEAKER_01: You know, that's I think I I've I've Liz and I often put this on if people come around just for high energy, but not like holy fuck energy, you know what I mean?
- 9:14SPEAKER_00: Yeah, not my EDM section from last week.
- 9:16SPEAKER_01: Yeah, you're not like man, I need to double drop and go fucking nuts.
- 9:20SPEAKER_00: Yeah, it's like it's dinner dinner energy, yeah.
- 9:24SPEAKER_01: Vibe dinner energy, dinner party energy.
- 9:26SPEAKER_00: Yeah, like yeah, yeah, maybe crack out a board game, but it's a fun board game.
- 9:30SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 9:31SPEAKER_01: Settles of Catan.
- 9:34SPEAKER_00: I see you bought more wheat.
- 9:37SPEAKER_00: Interesting decision.
- 9:38SPEAKER_00: My resource tiles are diminishing.
- 9:40SPEAKER_00: Yes.
- 9:41SPEAKER_00: I think I'm gonna go wood.
- 9:43SPEAKER_00: I've never played Catan.
- 9:44SPEAKER_00: I think I'd rather kill myself.
- 9:46SPEAKER_01: And also, geez, fucking entertainment dinner first.
- 9:48SPEAKER_01: If you're gonna go wood.
- 9:50SPEAKER_00: Is that a a resource in Catan?
- 9:52SPEAKER_01: I believe I'll be honest, I played Catan once.
- 9:55SPEAKER_01: Yeah, you don't strike me as you don't quite get it.
- 9:57SPEAKER_00: No, I have seen people playing it.
- 9:59SPEAKER_00: I'm like, looks a bit complicated for me.
- 10:02SPEAKER_01: I would it's a game that I would quite like to get into because I think I would enjoy it.
- 10:05SPEAKER_01: Um, but I also think you need to play with someone who knows how to play.
- 10:08SPEAKER_00: Yeah, yeah, yeah.
- 10:09SPEAKER_00: Yeah, it's the same with like Age of Empires, didn't get into it, but you need to shut the fuck up right now.
- 10:13SPEAKER_01: How do you not like age of everyone like man?
- 10:15SPEAKER_01: Did you eat neutral game as a kid?
- 10:17SPEAKER_00: Yeah.
- 10:17SPEAKER_01: What the fuck?
- 10:18SPEAKER_00: I was playing like Finding Nemo and Matt Hoffman's Pro BMX and Brother.
- 10:25SPEAKER_00: What else was I playing um with myself?
- 10:28SPEAKER_01: And at the age that you're playing Finding Nemo, you should not have been playing with yourself.
- 10:33SPEAKER_00: No, accidentally, you don't do it in a weird way.
- 10:36SPEAKER_01: I was 23.
- 10:37SPEAKER_00: Yeah, I still play it.
- 10:38SPEAKER_00: It's great.
- 10:38SPEAKER_00: I actually bought Matt Hoffman's Pro BMX on PS2 the other day.
- 10:41SPEAKER_00: Wow.
- 10:42SPEAKER_00: Fuck yeah, so keen.
- 10:43SPEAKER_00: It's the uh the quarry first level.
- 10:45SPEAKER_00: Quite good.
- 10:46SPEAKER_00: The warehouse, I thought it was the first level.
- 10:48SPEAKER_00: Maybe I've got ProBMX.
- 10:49SPEAKER_00: Maybe I have ProBMX too.
- 10:51SPEAKER_00: Ah, right, fair enough.
- 10:52SPEAKER_01: Anyway, got me into technicality.
- 10:54SPEAKER_01: Uh Sam, have you got any homework that you want to impart on me for the week?
- 10:58SPEAKER_01: No.
- 10:58SPEAKER_01: Yes, I do.
- 10:59SPEAKER_01: Ladies and gentlemen, this is actually the last episode of anyway.
- 11:02SPEAKER_01: We're wrapping it up.
- 11:03SPEAKER_01: Surprise.
- 11:04SPEAKER_00: Uh Max got engaged and I was so behessed and uh offended.
- 11:09SPEAKER_00: I've packed up shop.
- 11:11SPEAKER_00: Uh no, I've got Brutalist by Saatchi Six.
- 11:14SPEAKER_00: Ah, Friends of Sam, the show.
- 11:15SPEAKER_00: Friends of the show, a band that is blowing up at the moment.
- 11:19SPEAKER_00: They combine sort of like that Chase Atlantic Cynthia pop, like sexy pop with really jarring, super heavy guitars.
- 11:29SPEAKER_00: And it is very brutalist in sound.
- 11:32SPEAKER_00: So have fun with that one.
- 11:34SPEAKER_00: I'm sure you've listened a little bit.
- 11:35SPEAKER_01: I have definitely listened to this album before prior to the interview we did with them.
- 11:38SPEAKER_01: Um, but I've listened to it once and I that was months ago, so I'll be very keen to go check that out check this out and kind of get back around it now that I know more about them.
- 11:47SPEAKER_01: I'm not discovering for them them for the first time.
- 11:49SPEAKER_01: Yep.
- 11:49SPEAKER_01: And also that I've found out about the production process from the band themselves.
- 11:54SPEAKER_01: So yeah, thank you.
- 11:55SPEAKER_01: I'll be looking forward to this.
- 11:56SPEAKER_01: Enjoy it.
- 11:57SPEAKER_01: Listeners, chime chime in, chirp, hit the DMs, tune in even.
- 12:01SPEAKER_01: No, let us know what you think about Sachi 6 Brutalist.
- 12:04SPEAKER_01: Yeah, true.
- 12:05SPEAKER_01: We might if if you send us some uh notifications ahead of time, we might consider even including them in the show.
- 12:11SPEAKER_01: Putting them on the show.
- 12:12SPEAKER_00: Max is pretty big on the uh the chop.
- 12:15SPEAKER_01: Yeah, my editing suite is uh pretty brutal.
- 12:18SPEAKER_01: I won't lie.
- 12:19SPEAKER_01: Well, any vinyl thoughts, Maxwell?
- 12:21SPEAKER_01: Um, I've got a lot of vinyl incoming, which I realized that I purchased like ages ago, and then I got a notification like the other day being like all of these are coming.
- 12:29SPEAKER_01: And I was like, oh, I pre-ordered heaps.
- 12:32SPEAKER_01: You can still get pregnant from pre-order.
- 12:33SPEAKER_01: You can still get pregnant from pre-order, Sam.
- 12:34SPEAKER_01: So I'm gonna have uh I'm gonna be flush with discs soon.
- 12:37SPEAKER_01: Fuck.
- 12:38SPEAKER_01: Uh, what about yourself?
- 12:39SPEAKER_00: Uh I've I just received uh Holding Absence new album.
- 12:44SPEAKER_00: Ooh, very pretty.
- 12:45SPEAKER_00: Uh and that's about it.
- 12:46SPEAKER_00: I don't have too many on the radar.
- 12:48SPEAKER_00: I'm sort of waiting for some new albums to drop.
- 12:52SPEAKER_00: And yeah, we'll see how we go.
- 12:54SPEAKER_01: Well, I mean, we are it's now as of time of drop, the end of September.
- 13:00SPEAKER_01: Statistically speaking, the winner of the hottest 100 is already out.
- 13:06SPEAKER_01: So, you know, I think we're we're coming towards the end of the year when albums are gonna start to slow down.
- 13:10SPEAKER_01: We'll see some pretty big announcements for next year, but slow down a little bit through uh this back end.
- 13:16SPEAKER_00: It's gonna be interesting.
- 13:17SPEAKER_00: We're gonna have to start putting together our uh best of list.
- 13:21SPEAKER_01: Yeah, yeah, yeah, absolutely.
- 13:22SPEAKER_00: Ahead of the uh I think we need to do like a best of list and then we need to do like our wrapped and replay and stuff like that as well.
- 13:28SPEAKER_00: Yeah, yeah.
- 13:28SPEAKER_00: Because they're very different.
- 13:29SPEAKER_01: Yeah.
- 13:30SPEAKER_01: Listeners, start putting yours together.
- 13:31SPEAKER_01: Um because we will come and knockin'.
- 13:34SPEAKER_01: We'll need your input.
- 13:36SPEAKER_00: Album of the year, best new find, artist of the year, typically.
- 13:40SPEAKER_00: Song of the year is too hard.
