- 0:00Welcome to Pomoja Podcast, a ministry of Life
- 0:03of Christ International Ministries, the place
- 0:06where stronger lives are built, faith is strengthened,
- 0:10hearts are encouraged, and Christ -centered homes
- 0:13are shaped through ordinary conversations that
- 0:17become extraordinary encounters with God's truth.
- 0:21One conversation, one story, one revelation at
- 0:26a time. As I have reflected on my father's story
- 0:31over the years, I have come to appreciate something
- 0:35I completely overlooked when I first heard it.
- 0:38He didn't simply tell me there were windows.
- 0:41He told me they were sealed. At first I thought
- 0:43the windows were simply there to keep the cold
- 0:46air out. But now I realize they were there to
- 0:49protect something far more valuable. The atmosphere.
- 0:54Everything inside that house depended on the
- 0:56atmosphere remaining the same. Warmth, peace,
- 1:00rest, safety, joy. The fire could continue burning,
- 1:06but if enough cold air entered, the entire atmosphere
- 1:10would change. And isn't that exactly what happens
- 1:13in many marriages? The love may still be there.
- 1:18The covenant may still exist. The family may
- 1:21still live under the same roof. Yet somehow,
- 1:25the atmosphere changes. The laughter becomes
- 1:29silence. Patience becomes irritation. Kindness
- 1:33becomes criticism. Conversation becomes obligation.
- 1:37The house is still standing, but it no longer
- 1:40feels like home. So today, I want us to walk
- 1:44slowly around that house again, not to inspect
- 1:48the walls, not to inspect the roof, but to inspect
- 1:52the windows. because every window represents
- 1:55something we allow to enter our lives, and every
- 1:58window deserves to be guarded. The first window
- 2:03is the window of words. If I were to ask you
- 2:07today, what creates the atmosphere inside your
- 2:10home? Many people would answer, our finances,
- 2:15our schedules, our children, our responsibilities.
- 2:20Those things certainly influence a home, but
- 2:24scripture points us somewhere much deeper. It
- 2:27points us to our words. Listen to what Solomon
- 2:31says in Proverbs 18 -21. Death and life are in
- 2:37the power of the tongue, and those who love it
- 2:39will eat its fruit. Think about that for a moment.
- 2:43Death and life are carried by the same instrument,
- 2:48the tongue. The words spoken inside your house
- 2:51are never neutral. They are constantly planting
- 2:55something. Every conversation plants a seed.
- 2:59Every compliment plants a seed. Every criticism
- 3:03plants a seed. Every encouragement plants a seed.
- 3:07Every insult plants a seed. And every seed will
- 3:11eventually produce a harvest. Perhaps this is
- 3:15why James devoted an entire chapter to the tongue.
- 3:18He compares it to the rudder of a ship. A tiny
- 3:22spark that sets an entire forest on fire. A small
- 3:26bit placed in the mouth of a horse. Something
- 3:30very small. With enormous consequences. James
- 3:34isn't exaggerating. He's describing what every
- 3:37married couple eventually experiences. Sometimes.
- 3:41One sentence spoken in anger remains in the heart
- 3:44for years. Not because it was loud. but because
- 3:48words have remarkable power. Words shape identity.
- 3:53Words shape memory. Words shape atmosphere. I
- 3:58have learned that people rarely remember every
- 4:00conversation they have with their spouse, but
- 4:03they almost always remember the words that deeply
- 4:07wounded them or deeply encouraged them. How many
- 4:10husbands still remember hearing, I'm proud of
- 4:14you. How many wives still remember hearing, I
- 4:17appreciate everything you do. And sadly, how
- 4:22many still carry words that should never have
- 4:25been spoken. Words like, you'll never change.
- 4:29You always fail. I regret marrying you. I don't
- 4:34respect you. Those words don't disappear when
- 4:37the conversation ends. They remain inside the
- 4:41house, like our traveler from the previous conversation.
- 4:46The voice stays. Paul understood this. That's
- 4:50why he writes in Ephesians 4 .29. Do not let
- 4:55any unwholesome talk come out of your mouths,
- 4:59but only what is helpful for building others
- 5:01up according to their needs, that it may benefit
- 5:05those who listen. Notice what Paul is teaching.
- 5:09Before a word leaves your mouth, it should pass
- 5:13through a question. Will this build or will it
- 5:17destroy? Will this heal or will it wound? Will
- 5:22this strengthen my home or weaken its atmosphere?
- 5:27Imagine how many marriages would change if every
- 5:30husband and every wife asked that question before
- 5:34speaking. One of my favorite examples in scripture
- 5:38is Barnabas. His name literally means son of
- 5:43encouragement. Think about that. His identity
- 5:46became connected to the words he consistently
- 5:49spoke. When everyone doubted Saul, Barnabas believed
- 5:53in him. When John Mark failed, Barnabas gave
- 5:57him another opportunity. He became known not
- 6:00for criticism, but for encouragement. Imagine
- 6:05if every husband decided, I will become the Barnabas
- 6:09of my wife. Imagine if every wife decided I will
- 6:13become the Barnabas of my husband. Homes would
- 6:16begin changing immediately because encouragement
- 6:19changes atmosphere. But the house still has more
- 6:23windows. As we continue walking through this
- 6:26house in the middle of the forest, we leave the
- 6:29window of words behind and we arrive at another
- 6:33window. A quieter one. A more subtle one. One
- 6:38that rarely announces its arrival. We've guarded
- 6:41our words. Yet another window quietly waits for
- 6:45us. One that has stolen the joy of countless
- 6:48marriages, broken families, and even faithful
- 6:52believers. It is a window that existed long before
- 6:57social media, long before television, long before
- 7:01the world we know today. Unlike the first window.
- 7:05This one doesn't usually enter through the mouth.
- 7:09It enters through the eyes. It begins with what
- 7:12we see, then grows into what we desire. It whispers.
- 7:18What God has given you isn't enough. It whispers.
- 7:23Someone else's life is better. Someone else's
- 7:26marriage is happier. Someone else's children
- 7:29are doing better. Someone else's ministry is
- 7:33growing faster. someone else's calling is greater.
- 7:37Little by little, comparison replaces gratitude.
- 7:41Contentment gives way to dissatisfaction. And
- 7:45before long, the atmosphere inside the house
- 7:48begins to change. So let's continue our walk
- 7:52around the house. Let's open the scriptures together
- 7:55and examine the second window, the window of
- 7:59comparison. Because the first comparison did
- 8:02not begin on Facebook, or Instagram, or YouTube.
- 8:07It began in a garden, the Garden of Eden, and
- 8:11the strategy of the serpent hasn't changed since.
- 8:16And that is exactly where the serpent began.
- 8:20Not with force, not with temptation, not even
- 8:24with the forbidden fruit. He began with comparison.
- 8:28Listen carefully to the conversation recorded
- 8:30in Genesis chapter 3. Did God really say? Then,
- 8:37only a few moments later, for God knows that
- 8:40when you eat from it, your eyes will be opened
- 8:43and you will be like God. Do you hear what the
- 8:47serpent is really saying? What God has already
- 8:50given you isn't enough. There is something better.
- 8:56There is another life waiting for you. God is
- 9:00withholding something from you. In other words,
- 9:03he opened a window. Not in the garden, in Eve's
- 9:07heart. Before Eve ever reached for the fruit,
- 9:10she first reached for an idea. The fall did not
- 9:13begin with eating, it began with believing. That
- 9:17is how the enemy still works today. He rarely
- 9:20begins with the visible sin, he begins with an
- 9:23invisible thought. a comparison, a suggestion,
- 9:27a dissatisfaction, because every visible fall
- 9:30is first conceived in the invisible world of
- 9:33the heart. James explains this with remarkable
- 9:36clarity. Each person is tempted when they are
- 9:39dragged away by their own evil desire and enticed.
- 9:43Then, after desire has conceived, it gives birth
- 9:47to sin, and sin, when it is full -grown, gives
- 9:51birth to death. James 1, 14 to 15. Did you notice
- 9:56the progression? Suggestion, desire, sin, death.
- 10:02Satan understands something many believers overlook.
- 10:05He knows he doesn't have to convince you to sin
- 10:08today. He simply has to plant a thought today
- 10:11that will produce a harvest tomorrow. That is
- 10:15why comparison is so dangerous. Comparison is
- 10:19rarely the destination. It is the doorway. It
- 10:22opens the heart to desires that never existed
- 10:26before. Think about Eve for a moment. She was
- 10:30already walking with God. Already living in abundance.
- 10:35Already surrounded by beauty. Already created
- 10:38in God's image. Already entrusted with dominion.
- 10:43She lacked nothing. Yet after one conversation
- 10:46with the serpent, Abundance suddenly felt like
- 10:50deprivation. One forbidden tree became more attractive
- 10:55than every tree God had already given her. Isn't
- 10:59that exactly what comparison still does? It has
- 11:03an amazing ability to make us overlook 99 blessings
- 11:07while becoming consumed by the one thing we don't
- 11:10have. It quietly shifts our eyes from God's provision
- 11:14to God's prohibition. from gratitude to entitlement,
- 11:20from worship to dissatisfaction. And once gratitude
- 11:26leaves the house, the atmosphere begins to change.
- 11:31As we continue walking around this house, we
- 11:34come to another window, one that many people
- 11:37leave wide open without ever realizing it. Unlike
- 11:41the window of words or the window of comparison,
- 11:45This one doesn't always feel dangerous. Sometimes
- 11:49it feels comforting. Sometimes it feels helpful.
- 11:54Sometimes it even sounds wise. Because this window
- 11:59doesn't usually open for strangers. It opens
- 12:02for voices. The window of influence. Every house
- 12:06has an atmosphere. But every atmosphere has influences.
- 12:10No atmosphere remains unchanged. Someone or something
- 12:15is always shaping it. The question is not whether
- 12:19you are being influenced. The question is, who
- 12:23are you allowing to influence you? Because every
- 12:26voice carries a direction. Every conversation
- 12:30leaves an impression. Every relationship plants
- 12:33something. Every book, every movie, every podcast,
- 12:38every social media account, every friendship,
- 12:42every counselor. Every coworker, every mentor,
- 12:47every family member leaves something behind.
- 12:51The question is, what are they leaving behind?
- 12:55Are they strengthening your covenant or slowly
- 12:58pulling you away from it? The scriptures speak
- 13:02often about influence because God understands
- 13:05something we sometimes forget. No one walks alone.
- 13:09We all become, little by little, like the voices
- 13:13we repeatedly welcome into our lives. Listen
- 13:16to the wisdom of Proverbs 13 -20. Walk with the
- 13:20wise and become wise, for a companion of fools
- 13:24suffers harm. Notice what Solomon doesn't say.
- 13:27He doesn't say, try harder. He doesn't say, be
- 13:31smarter. He says, walk with the wise, because
- 13:36wisdom is contagious. But so is foolishness.
- 13:40Character is formed in company. Atmosphere is
- 13:44created by association. The people you consistently
- 13:47listen to will eventually shape the person you
- 13:51become. Paul says the very same thing in 1 Corinthians
- 13:5615 33. Do not be misled. Bad company corrupts
- 14:01good character. That verse has often been used
- 14:05to warn young people about choosing friends wisely,
- 14:09and it certainly applies. But I believe the principle
- 14:12is much broader. Paul is teaching us that influence
- 14:16is never neutral. Character is either being built
- 14:20or slowly eroded. Think about that. He doesn't
- 14:24say, bad company destroys character overnight.
- 14:28He says, it corrupts. That word describes something
- 14:32gradual, almost unnoticed, like rust slowly covering
- 14:37steel, like termites quietly weakening a house,
- 14:41like a window left open, allowing cold air to
- 14:45enter one gentle breeze at a time. The Bible
- 14:50gives us remarkable examples. Consider Rehoboam.
- 14:54When Solomon died, The kingdom stood at a crossroads.
- 14:58The elders gave wise counsel. They urged the
- 15:02young king to serve the people with humility.
- 15:05Then Rahoboam did something that changed history.
- 15:08He walked away from the elders and sought advice
- 15:11from the young men who had grown up with him.
- 15:14They told him, be harsher, be stronger. Show
- 15:20them who's in charge. He listened. The result.
- 15:24The kingdom was divided. One decision. One influence.
- 15:29One voice. An entire nation changed. Never underestimate
- 15:34the power of the voices you choose to trust.
- 15:38We see the same pattern much earlier in the garden.
- 15:41The serpent didn't force Eve to eat. He simply
- 15:44offered another voice. Until that moment, God's
- 15:48voice had been enough. Then another voice entered
- 15:51the conversation. Every temptation begins with
- 15:54competing voices. One voice says, trust God.
- 15:59The other says, you deserve more. One says, wait.
- 16:04The other says, take it now. One says, forgive.
- 16:08The other says, protect your pride. One says,
- 16:12honor your covenant. The other says, you'd be
- 16:15happier somewhere else. Every day, those voices
- 16:19compete for the atmosphere of our homes. The
- 16:22question is, which voice have we been listening
- 16:25to? Jesus said something that has always captured
- 16:29my heart. My sheep hear my voice. I know them
- 16:34and they follow me. John 1027. Notice what he
- 16:38did not say. My sheep hear every voice. He said,
- 16:44they know my voice. There is a difference. Spiritual
- 16:48maturity is not learning to hear more voices.
- 16:51It is learning to recognize the shepherd's voice
- 16:54above every other voice. The closer you walk
- 16:57with Christ, the easier it becomes to recognize
- 17:01what does not sound like Him. Because not every
- 17:05good idea is God's idea. Not every popular opinion
- 17:09is biblical truth. Not every encouraging voice
- 17:13is leading you toward Christ. Discernment is
- 17:16one of the greatest gifts God gives to those
- 17:19who walk closely with Him. as we leave this window
- 17:24behind. I want you to ask yourself one simple
- 17:28question. Who has access to the atmosphere of
- 17:31my house? Who has permission to shape the way
- 17:34I think about my spouse, my children, my calling,
- 17:39my future, and even my relationship with God?
- 17:44Because whatever voice repeatedly enters through
- 17:47this window will eventually echo inside your
- 17:50own heart. But the house still has another window.
- 17:55This one may be the most dangerous of them all.
- 17:59Because unlike the others, it doesn't invite
- 18:03something into the house. It hides something
- 18:08inside the house. Let's continue our walk together.
- 18:13As we close today's conversation, our walk around
- 18:17the house is far from over. There are still windows
- 18:21we have yet to examine. Windows that have quietly
- 18:24threatened not only marriages, but families,
- 18:29ministries, callings, and entire generations.
- 18:34In our next conversation, we will continue exploring
- 18:38these subtle, yet incredibly dangerous windows
- 18:41that have silently destroyed homes and marriages
- 18:45for centuries. But let me leave you with one
- 18:49final thought. The consequences of an open window
- 18:53extend far beyond the walls of your own house.
- 18:57They reach your children. They shape your grandchildren.
- 19:01They influence generations that have not yet
- 19:04been born. They affect your church, your community,
- 19:09your ministry, your witness, your legacy. Because
- 19:14every marriage is preaching a message. Every
- 19:17family is leaving an inheritance, and every life
- 19:21is influencing someone, whether we realize it
- 19:24or not. That is why the enemy fights so relentlessly
- 19:28against God's design for marriage and the family.
- 19:32He understands something many people fail to
- 19:35see. It has never been only about you. If he
- 19:39can weaken a husband, he may discourage a wife.
- 19:43If he can discourage a wife, He may confuse the
- 19:47children. If he can confuse the children, he
- 19:50may alter the course of generations. If he can
- 19:54destroy one home, he may silence a testimony
- 19:57that God intended to reach hundreds, perhaps
- 20:01thousands. One broken covenant can echo through
- 20:05generations, but one faithful covenant can bless
- 20:09generations as well. Scripture reminds us that
- 20:13God shows steadfast love to thousands of generations
- 20:17of those who love Him and keep His commandments.
- 20:22Never underestimate the power of a home surrendered
- 20:26to God. Your obedience today may become someone
- 20:30else's inheritance tomorrow. Your faithfulness
- 20:33may become your children's foundation. Your prayers
- 20:37may become your grandchildren's testimony. And
- 20:41your marriage may become the example that gives
- 20:44another couple the courage to keep fighting for
- 20:47theirs. So don't guard your house only for yourselves.
- 20:52Guard it for those who are watching. Guard it
- 20:55for those who are following. Guard it for those
- 20:58who will one day bear your name. And above all,
- 21:03guard it for the glory of Christ. Because from
- 21:06the very beginning, It has never been only about
- 21:10you. It has always been about God's kingdom being
- 21:16revealed through your home. Until next time,
- 21:20may the Lord bless your home, strengthen your
- 21:25covenant, protect every window, and fill your
- 21:29house with His presence.
