  SPEAKER_04: Yeah.

  SPEAKER_04: I think we're gonna learn a lot.
• 2:25
SPEAKER_04: Like we've known you for a while.
• 2:27
SPEAKER_04: You were an illustrator at my wedding a couple years ago.
• 2:31
SPEAKER_04: And then you designed these beautiful scrunchies.
• 2:37
SPEAKER_04: Thank you so much for a little bit.
• 2:40
  SPEAKER_04: We love the press.
• 2:41
  SPEAKER_04: Gorgeous.

SPEAKER_04: Yes, we have gifts for all of our season one guests.
• 2:49
  SPEAKER_04: Yeah, and they're beautiful.
• 2:51
  SPEAKER_04: I love them.
• 2:51
  SPEAKER_04: So silky and sick.
• 2:52
SPEAKER_04: Yes, thank you for the smooth.
• 2:55
  SPEAKER_04: I love all right.
• 2:57
SPEAKER_04: Yeah, we are so excited for tonight.
• 2:59
SPEAKER_04: Thank you for our Sip Squad for being here.
• 3:01
SPEAKER_04: We have a lot to go over.
• 3:02
SPEAKER_04: Sip squad, you guys are amazing.
• 3:05
SPEAKER_04: We're live from Bubbles, like we mentioned.
• 3:07
SPEAKER_04: And yeah, I guess we have a lot to go over.
• 3:10
SPEAKER_04: But first, before we do anything, we're gonna just dive into this or that and rip the bank off.
• 3:15
  SPEAKER_04: Here we go.
• 3:17
  SPEAKER_04: I love it.
• 3:17
  SPEAKER_04: All right.
• 3:18
  SPEAKER_05: What do we got?
• 3:19
SPEAKER_05: I don't ever peek at those beforehand because I like being caught off guard.
• 3:22
SPEAKER_04: So this or that is a fun, a fun game that we like to play when we have guests on this podcast.
• 3:26
  SPEAKER_04: Or it's it's pretty simple.
• 3:28
SPEAKER_04: I'll read off a prompt and it's this thing or that thing.
• 3:31
SPEAKER_04: And then so you will tell us your answer and just kind of give us a little explanation wide, and then we'll go, and then I'll go, and then Rachel go, and then we'll just we'll get a new prompt and we'll do it again.
• 3:42
  SPEAKER_04: Okay, I love this.
• 3:43
  SPEAKER_04: Let's do it.
• 3:44
  SPEAKER_04: All right, all right.
• 3:45
SPEAKER_04: So we'll start off kind of easy.
• 3:46
SPEAKER_04: I'm excited to hear your answer.
• 3:48
  SPEAKER_04: Pencil or paint.
• 3:50
  SPEAKER_04: Oh man, that's a good one.
• 3:53
  SPEAKER_06: Pencil and paint.
• 3:57
  SPEAKER_06: Oh gosh, man.
• 4:00
SPEAKER_06: I definitely I think I would have to go with pencil because I'm always I always either have a pencil in my hair.
• 4:06
  SPEAKER_06: Oh yeah.
• 4:07
SPEAKER_06: Like in my purse or something like that.
• 4:08
  SPEAKER_06: So I'm always drawing.
• 4:10
  SPEAKER_06: I just I always gravitate towards specifically a 4-H pencil.
• 4:15
  SPEAKER_06: Okay.
• 4:15
  SPEAKER_06: Okay, well, yeah.
• 4:16
SPEAKER_06: So it means it's like the hardness of the lead.
• 4:19
  SPEAKER_06: Okay, gotcha.
• 4:20
SPEAKER_06: So like an H is it just stands for well, I don't know if it actually stands for hard, but it's like 4 H.
• 4:27
SPEAKER_06: Yeah, I guess I would say that.
• 4:29
  SPEAKER_06: I'm professional.
• 4:30
  SPEAKER_06: Yeah, I'm a professional.
• 4:32
  SPEAKER_06: I know what I'm talking about.
• 4:33
SPEAKER_06: Yeah, so yeah, I just think pencil for sure.
• 4:37
  SPEAKER_06: Yeah.
• 4:37
  SPEAKER_06: What about you guys?
• 4:39
SPEAKER_06: Oh do you guys do a lot of visual like art?
• 4:44
SPEAKER_04: Or he does way more than I do.
• 4:46
  SPEAKER_04: Yeah.
• 4:47
SPEAKER_04: I would say for me, uh I it bad things happen when they give me a pencil.
• 4:54
SPEAKER_04: Oh my give me penars and sometimes I turn humans into mermaids.
• 4:59
SPEAKER_04: So I'm gonna go, and I that's not necessarily a bad thing, but it happens.
• 5:03
SPEAKER_04: I would say paint because we might as well just dive in and commit for myself.
• 5:07
  SPEAKER_04: I love that.
• 5:08
SPEAKER_05: You're like, okay, you like we have done a paint and paint night.
• 5:12
SPEAKER_05: We did at my friend Esther's paint night that she had down at the what is it, the beach dive beach.
• 5:18
  SPEAKER_06: Yeah, the dive.
• 5:19
SPEAKER_06: Was it like a paint and sip?
• 5:20
  SPEAKER_06: Yes, okay.
• 5:21
  SPEAKER_06: So much fun.
• 5:22
  SPEAKER_05: Yeah.
• 5:22
SPEAKER_05: Um, so that was fun.
• 5:24
SPEAKER_05: Yeah, and you did it.
• 5:24
SPEAKER_05: You got yours done quicker than I did because I just overthink things too much.
• 5:27
SPEAKER_05: But Jen's just like, let's on there.
• 5:29
  SPEAKER_05: It's done.
• 5:29
SPEAKER_05: And there we are in a minute.
• 5:31
SPEAKER_06: I feel like I would overthink those things too.
• 5:33
SPEAKER_06: Like I've never gone to a paint and sip before, but I feel like I would be like, I don't know, the pressure's on.
• 5:38
SPEAKER_05: Like, you know, you're looking around and everyone else has theirs like a bit quicker than mine, even I'm like, okay.
• 5:43
  SPEAKER_05: It's pretty wild.
• 5:44
SPEAKER_05: Can I get more paint, please?
• 5:45
SPEAKER_05: Yeah, we're still that color.
• 5:47
SPEAKER_05: We have to mix it ourselves up on it.
• 5:49
SPEAKER_05: That's a tough one for me because Jen, I like to go off that.
• 5:52
  SPEAKER_05: I think we're more of a pen person.
• 5:54
SPEAKER_05: So I don't think that you gave yourself the introduce enough.
• 5:57
SPEAKER_06: Okay, so you're more of a pen person.
• 5:59
SPEAKER_05: Because you like to write with all you you always have so many pens.
• 6:02
  SPEAKER_05: So many colored pens.
• 6:04
SPEAKER_05: I feel like I want to say paint because I just love it.
• 6:07
SPEAKER_05: I think that's where like all of the fun is.
• 6:09
  SPEAKER_05: Yeah.
• 6:09
SPEAKER_05: But even with my paintings, I always start with a pencil.
• 6:12
  SPEAKER_05: Yeah.
• 6:13
SPEAKER_05: So I feel like that's where really like the I won't want to say like skill because that's not true.
• 6:17
SPEAKER_05: That's not how every artist works, but that's like kind of where the tact and where how my brain wants to work first.
• 6:21
SPEAKER_05: That's the outline I give myself before I have the balls to go in with the paint.
• 6:27
  SPEAKER_05: Yeah.
• 6:29
SPEAKER_05: So probably pencil for one reason.
• 6:33
SPEAKER_05: So I always do this, I always say both.
• 6:35
  SPEAKER_05: She does.
• 6:36
SPEAKER_05: Yeah, she doesn't paint because that's just what brings it all life.
• 6:40
SPEAKER_05: You find the beauty in both.
• 6:41
SPEAKER_06: Yeah, like I'm gonna stick with both.
• 6:43
  SPEAKER_06: Yeah, I'm a both sides.
• 6:45
  SPEAKER_06: I guess so.
• 6:47
SPEAKER_05: That's my answer, but I think definitely I could see that okay.
• 6:50
SPEAKER_05: You also work with different stuff too, don't you?
• 6:53
SPEAKER_06: I work with everything, yeah.
• 6:54
SPEAKER_06: Yeah, I see a lot of things.
• 6:56
SPEAKER_06: I mean, I I do I have oil paintings, acrylic paintings, watercolor, pastel, charcoal, like all the things.
• 7:03
SPEAKER_06: Like, I'll just kind of go ham.
• 7:05
  SPEAKER_06: I love that.
• 7:06
SPEAKER_06: Just do everything, I think as you should, yeah.
• 7:10
SPEAKER_06: So I like that, but I think there's so much not to get like too sentimental, but like there's so much beauty in a pencil, you know, and it's like the foundation, right?
• 7:18
  SPEAKER_06: That's where I'll start out.
• 7:19
SPEAKER_06: I think that's like without that, yeah.
• 7:22
  SPEAKER_06: I think so.
• 7:22
SPEAKER_04: I don't know, give some good guidance, yeah for sure.
• 7:26
SPEAKER_05: We'll have to look through the history of um utensils, like okay.
• 7:31
SPEAKER_04: That would be pretty fast, yeah.
• 7:32
SPEAKER_04: Yeah, that would be cool.
• 7:33
  SPEAKER_04: I like that.
• 7:34
  SPEAKER_04: Yeah, okay, good question.
• 7:36
  SPEAKER_04: I liked that one.
• 7:37
SPEAKER_04: Yeah, well, the next one is fun too.
• 7:39
SPEAKER_04: I think they're all gonna be pretty fun, actually.
• 7:41
SPEAKER_04: So this one is runway show or gallery opening.
• 7:44
SPEAKER_04: Now that can be whatever it means to you.
• 7:46
SPEAKER_04: Is that like you're in one or you're going to one?
• 7:48
  SPEAKER_04: Whatever it means.
• 7:49
SPEAKER_06: Okay, so I do a lot of fashion illustration at runway shows.
• 7:54
SPEAKER_06: So I travel a lot to London and New York for fashion shows and I do live sketching there.
• 8:02
SPEAKER_06: So the pace of it's pretty quick.
• 8:05
  SPEAKER_06: Yeah.
• 8:05
SPEAKER_06: And so you have like probably, I don't know, like a maybe max a 10-minute show.
• 8:11
  SPEAKER_06: Oh, wow.
• 8:12
SPEAKER_06: And you have to get as much as many sketches in as possible.
• 8:15
  SPEAKER_06: Yeah.
• 8:16
SPEAKER_06: And so I really love that.
• 8:19
SPEAKER_06: You know, I do love that.
• 8:20
SPEAKER_06: Gallery shows are more like chill, relaxed, and you have to talk to more people.
• 8:26
SPEAKER_06: Like when I'm sketching, I don't really want to talk to people.
• 8:30
SPEAKER_06: You know what I mean?
• 8:31
SPEAKER_06: Even though they want to talk to you, you're like, hey, what are you doing?
• 8:34
  SPEAKER_06: Like, I don't have a second.
• 8:43
  SPEAKER_06: Yeah.
• 8:43
SPEAKER_05: I think I would go with that.
• 8:44
SPEAKER_05: I've definitely noticed that in a lot of your like different work and the just the way that you paint stuff.
• 8:49
SPEAKER_05: I love how quickly you can make some image come from your from what you see or from what your mind is seeing, and then boom and put it together.
• 8:56
SPEAKER_05: For me, like I said, I take forever, even when they have it out there in front of me, telling me that, like, hey, paint this ghost that's shaped like this, this blob, and I'm gonna take 20 to 30 minutes just to do that because I'm gonna be like, it has to be perfect.
• 9:08
SPEAKER_06: I know when I'm doing the live sketching, I really can't think about it.
• 9:12
SPEAKER_06: Yeah, you know, I have to be really present and get that image that I see onto the paper, so it has to be really fast.
• 9:19
SPEAKER_06: Like we had a portrait party yesterday.
• 9:21
SPEAKER_06: Oh, yeah, and so people came in and we had we had so many people come in yesterday.
• 9:26
  SPEAKER_06: It was insane.
• 9:27
SPEAKER_06: It was probably our biggest one yet.
• 9:29
  SPEAKER_05: Oh, yes.
• 9:29
SPEAKER_05: I think you were talking about these with us.
• 9:31
SPEAKER_05: Um maybe when we had our meeting about the scrunchies or something like that.
• 9:34
  SPEAKER_06: Yes, I think.
• 9:35
SPEAKER_06: So, and I never know what those, but you know, everyone came in and I I take their picture and I draw the picture, and I can't spend more than like five minutes doing.
• 9:45
SPEAKER_06: So I have to really draw and get it done.
• 9:47
  SPEAKER_06: But I I honestly do.
• 9:49
SPEAKER_06: I was I'm thinking about the pencil thing again.
• 9:51
SPEAKER_06: Yeah, like I use the pencil first, but I got it to the point where I was like, I have to just get the ink on the paper and just do it really fast.
• 9:57
SPEAKER_06: And I know during the runway shows I I don't do the I don't do pencil at all.
• 10:01
SPEAKER_06: I just kind of go straight for the different mediums I have and just get it done.
• 10:06
SPEAKER_05: I think that's really good practice for anyone like me that struggles with like overthinking, like maybe I need to just be put on a timer, you know, like chess.
• 10:13
  SPEAKER_05: I think pocket.
• 10:14
SPEAKER_06: I think that's what happens with a lot of people, they get intimidated by art and they want to like overthink it.
• 10:21
  SPEAKER_06: And it's it's I I feel like it's very intuitive.
• 10:23
SPEAKER_06: So like you just go with and it there's no guidance with that.
• 10:27
SPEAKER_06: It's like, oh, use your intuition.
• 10:29
SPEAKER_06: It's like okay, all right, calm down.
• 10:31
SPEAKER_06: But you know, it's like you really do just kind of gravitate towards a certain material and use that, and just look at the different shapes and practice, like that's the only thing you can't do.
• 10:44
SPEAKER_05: Like who would choose to pick up a pencil first and then add color, or who chooses to do color first and then go back in with a ballpoint pen, or you know, to add those details?
• 10:53
SPEAKER_05: It's pretty cool to see how people grab each detail.
• 10:56
SPEAKER_05: Um, and I think the colors starting with colors makes so much sense too.
• 10:59
SPEAKER_05: That like activates different part of your mind.
• 11:01
SPEAKER_05: Yeah, you know, I think that I believe, like, just like people that are in nature more live longer and are healthier.
• 11:08
SPEAKER_05: I think the same for people that actually express themselves with art and color.
• 11:11
  SPEAKER_06: Oh, I love that.
• 11:11
SPEAKER_06: I mean, you're gonna have a long life ahead of you.
• 11:14
SPEAKER_05: Yeah, so many different media is making your brain work from all different directions with each different media you choose.
• 11:21
  SPEAKER_05: Yeah, yeah.
• 11:22
SPEAKER_05: So yeah, really building that plasticity.
• 11:25
  SPEAKER_04: Yeah, for sure.
• 11:26
  SPEAKER_04: I love that.
• 11:27
  SPEAKER_04: No, runway or gallery.
• 11:29
SPEAKER_04: Yeah, it was it was runway tower or gallery opening.
• 11:32
SPEAKER_04: And for me, I don't know, like the first time that I'd ever actually attended a fashion a fashion show was actually upstairs.
• 11:40
SPEAKER_04: Well, here at the workroom when they did one just recently, I think maybe it was in February or January or something like that.
• 11:47
SPEAKER_04: It was early in the year, but it was so much fun.
• 11:50
SPEAKER_04: It was so like I don't know, there was a lot of energy to it, and I really was eating the energy alive.
• 11:56
SPEAKER_04: I loved that so much.
• 11:56
SPEAKER_04: I also that's how I met Carrie from Happy Camper.
• 11:59
  SPEAKER_04: Yeah, that's right.
• 12:01
SPEAKER_04: Yeah, and so I I don't yeah, I feel like there's a little bit more of a social aspect to it in that way.
• 12:07
SPEAKER_05: And galleries if you're not doing the sketches, yeah.
• 12:09
SPEAKER_04: I feel like you're not doing it.
• 12:11
SPEAKER_04: If you're doing the work for the people that come, there's a little bit more of a social thing because I feel like when I go to like an art gallery, I feel like I feel the need to be a little bit more quiet and composed myself and to maybe take my my loud voice outside.
• 12:25
SPEAKER_04: But that just bring me overthinking that.
• 12:28
SPEAKER_05: Yeah, yeah, I guess that would depend on the type of gallery.
• 12:31
  SPEAKER_05: I think so too.
• 12:32
SPEAKER_05: Is it an interactive gallery?
• 12:33
SPEAKER_05: Like you see some wild ones in the big cities, but I don't know, even then, it just seems like there's some sort of rule.
• 12:39
SPEAKER_04: But you have to I always feel like there's a rule, even when I'm at the Nelson Atkins or something like that.
• 12:44
SPEAKER_05: I'm like, shh gen, shh, but that's we're so ugly.
• 12:47
SPEAKER_05: The spaces are echoes, so you're like, oh wait, it must matter.
• 12:50
SPEAKER_05: Yeah, but let's see, I've never actually been to a Broadway show or seen any sort of fashion show or anything like that I can think of, other than just when we used to do it at sleepovers when I was little.
• 13:01
SPEAKER_06: Oh my gosh, yeah, you know, I used to dress my brother up.
• 13:05
  SPEAKER_06: He's in the lover.
• 13:06
SPEAKER_06: I used to dress my brother up in like different outfits that I made and give him like pigtails.
• 13:12
SPEAKER_06: See, that's even cooler though.
• 13:13
SPEAKER_06: You made it in fashion.
• 13:15
SPEAKER_06: He was part of your inspo.
• 13:16
  SPEAKER_06: He was better.
• 13:17
SPEAKER_06: He was the foundation of my company.
• 13:20
  SPEAKER_06: Really, really good stuff.
• 13:21
  SPEAKER_06: Mascot.
• 13:22
SPEAKER_06: Yeah, he is a bonita.
• 13:24
  SPEAKER_06: Yeah.
• 13:25
SPEAKER_04: Oh, that's kind of funny because my brother used to be my partner when I had a pretend radio show when I was a kid.
• 13:30
  SPEAKER_04: Really?
• 13:33
  SPEAKER_04: See how old?
• 13:34
  SPEAKER_04: I know.
• 13:35
SPEAKER_04: Like sometimes you're just born to you know that you're born.
• 13:37
  SPEAKER_04: There are signs.
• 13:39
  SPEAKER_04: Yeah.
• 13:40
SPEAKER_05: I probably have to pick gallery because I just like to see what everybody comes up with.
• 13:45
  SPEAKER_05: Yeah.
• 13:45
SPEAKER_05: Like I like to explore different medias that people use and not only just to see it and enjoy it and experience looking at it and what it makes me feel, but also giving me like getting my brain turning of like, oh, maybe I should try something like that.
• 13:57
SPEAKER_05: Or I wonder what did they do first?
• 14:00
SPEAKER_05: Or like what kind of you know, material did they use, what kind of brushes and tools did they use?
• 14:05
SPEAKER_05: And that really is interesting to me because you can use anything.
• 14:07
SPEAKER_05: Yeah, you can make a brush out of a twig in the woods.
• 14:11
  SPEAKER_05: Wow, you're there.
• 14:12
SPEAKER_05: Yeah, actually, yeah, that's probably what I would have to pick.
• 14:16
SPEAKER_05: Just but if I'm in it and I'm feeling myself, then that would be fun too.
• 14:21
  SPEAKER_05: Yeah, yeah.
• 14:21
SPEAKER_05: Maybe not in front of a lot of people.
• 14:23
  SPEAKER_05: I don't know.
• 14:24
SPEAKER_05: I'd have to print the outfit.
• 14:25
SPEAKER_05: I believe in picturing me like in white chicks in the big goose like outfit, you know, oh man.
• 14:34
SPEAKER_05: I'd end up tackling someone, having like paint fall on someone else.
• 14:37
SPEAKER_05: No, no, no, like in the movie.
• 14:39
  SPEAKER_05: I'd be a mess.
• 14:40
  SPEAKER_05: Let's go with gallery.
• 14:41
  SPEAKER_04: Yeah, that's amazing.
• 14:43
  SPEAKER_04: That's amazing.
• 14:44
SPEAKER_04: All right, so we have one more this or that question.
• 14:46
  SPEAKER_04: I love this one.
• 14:47
SPEAKER_04: Uh, studio day or event day.
• 14:49
SPEAKER_04: Oh, studio day or hands down.
• 14:52
SPEAKER_06: Yeah, I I am a very introverted person, and so I just like being at home in my studio, drawing and just not talking and like just hanging out with my cat.
• 15:06
  SPEAKER_06: I'm a I'm an old man.
• 15:08
  SPEAKER_06: I love that.
• 15:09
SPEAKER_06: I'm like an old, yeah.
• 15:10
SPEAKER_06: Just I I would love love to do that every day, all the time.
• 15:14
SPEAKER_06: I've had to like train myself to be more social, like doing this, yeah, yeah.
• 15:19
SPEAKER_06: And having our events at the space and things like that.
• 15:22
SPEAKER_06: Like, I I've had to really be like, okay, it's for the greater good, you know, yeah.
• 15:29
  SPEAKER_06: Let's do it.
• 15:30
SPEAKER_06: And I was I was a really like introverted kid growing up, and so I'm just like an introvert at heart.
• 15:37
SPEAKER_06: And so when I have these big events and things like that, I have to recharge for a day.
• 15:41
SPEAKER_06: Yeah, you know, just like kind of disconnect.
• 15:45
SPEAKER_06: Yeah, I have I really have a lot of extroverted friends who are very confused by it.
• 15:50
SPEAKER_06: They're like, no, let's go, let's go, let's go to the bars and so.
• 15:53
SPEAKER_06: And I'm like, oh my god, like I just want to stay home and watch Planet Earth and just I love a good documentary night.
• 16:01
  SPEAKER_06: Yeah, that's what I do.
• 16:02
SPEAKER_06: Me and my cat just chill and watch Planet Earth.
• 16:04
  SPEAKER_06: What's your cat's name?
• 16:05
  SPEAKER_06: Layla Marie.
• 16:07
SPEAKER_05: She has two names because she's a Debo adorable.
• 16:09
  SPEAKER_06: Layla Marie.
• 16:11
  SPEAKER_06: So yeah, yeah.
• 16:12
  SPEAKER_05: Love that.
• 16:12
SPEAKER_05: No, I think that there's something that really helps you hone in, especially because you do have to do both to be successful like you.
• 16:18
SPEAKER_05: And so doing both, I think that helps ground you and then remind you who you are and what why you're doing it.
• 16:24
  SPEAKER_05: Yes.
• 16:24
SPEAKER_05: So that totally makes sense.
• 16:26
  SPEAKER_06: Yeah, yeah, for sure.
• 16:27
  SPEAKER_06: Studio day for sure.
• 16:28
  SPEAKER_06: Wonderful.
• 16:29
  SPEAKER_04: Yeah.
• 16:30
SPEAKER_04: I think for me, I guess so.
• 16:32
SPEAKER_04: For me, it would be as a goer.
• 16:34
SPEAKER_04: Would I want to go to the studio and see the behind the scenes, or would I want to go to the event and interact with the artist there?
• 16:41
SPEAKER_04: I think honestly, like when I went into your shop, it was I felt like it was a little bit behind the scenes, like watching you, like I was just there for like watching you on the computer, but I've been to Hatman Jack's and watched his like whole process.
• 16:54
  SPEAKER_04: And oh fun.
• 16:55
SPEAKER_04: It's just kind of it is.
• 16:57
SPEAKER_04: I think I would maybe choose the behind the scenes the studio part as the person going.
• 17:03
SPEAKER_04: Yes, I love the storytelling.
• 17:04
SPEAKER_04: I love to know why and how about almost everything, and so I think and just something that's a little out of the ordinary for me is can be very fascinating.
• 17:14
SPEAKER_04: So, and I love your art reveals, the one the reveals they didn't know.
• 17:19
SPEAKER_04: Those are one of my favorite things.
• 17:21
SPEAKER_06: Like, that's the thing about social media, is like you post it and you're like, Oh, it's fine.
• 17:25
SPEAKER_06: And then I work, I work part-time at a restaurant, and I was hearing like a sound like a whole team on TikTok, and it was like the cooks, and they were just like looking at my own.
• 17:35
SPEAKER_06: Watching your god, I was like, I guess they're bonitas too.
• 17:40
  SPEAKER_06: I don't know.
• 17:40
SPEAKER_06: So it was it was just funny, and I was like, Okay, I guess people it's meant for people to see.
• 17:44
  SPEAKER_06: Yeah, yeah.
• 17:46
  SPEAKER_04: It's wonderful.
• 17:47
SPEAKER_04: I they they're like that now when I log in.
• 17:49
SPEAKER_04: If you've just done one, it's the top thing that comes up for me.
• 17:52
SPEAKER_04: I'm like, oh, this is so fun.
• 17:54
  SPEAKER_04: I love them.
• 17:54
  SPEAKER_04: Good, good.
• 17:55
SPEAKER_06: I'm glad that you do.
• 17:56
  SPEAKER_06: Yeah, they're gorgeous.
• 17:57
SPEAKER_06: Keeps me going, yes, keeps me going for sure.
• 18:00
SPEAKER_05: I guess because you kind of did a both thing with your answer because that is an event for you in a social aspect, but it's also kind of you're in the studio, but you're in the studio with the artist, yeah.
• 18:10
  SPEAKER_05: Yeah.
• 18:10
SPEAKER_05: When I first heard the question, I'm thinking of it from your aspect.
• 18:13
SPEAKER_05: We're like, do I want my alone time or do I want to like go out?
• 18:15
SPEAKER_05: And so my first instinct is to say, yes, I want just studio time.
• 18:19
  SPEAKER_05: Because I need we've been doing a lot.
• 18:22
  SPEAKER_05: I think I do craves.
• 18:23
SPEAKER_05: I always can craving that alone time, but I just can't seem to pull myself away from the events because I also am a social butterfly.
• 18:29
SPEAKER_05: Once I get once I'm out there, once I'm out there, I'm doing it, I'm flut fluttering around, but I also do it just you know need that recharge time.
• 18:39
SPEAKER_05: So that's a tough one because I think that you it comes in waves.
• 18:43
SPEAKER_05: So again, I'm doing the both thing, I'm cheating.
• 18:47
SPEAKER_05: Okay, we understand so yeah, um, but I definitely do agree with you, Jenna.
• 18:53
SPEAKER_05: I like seeing behind the scenes with other artists too, because then like if I when I make time to go and like really have a good artsy experience with myself and my equipment, then like you know, that inspires me, that pushes me.
• 19:06
SPEAKER_05: And just like interacting with other people too, yeah.
• 19:09
  SPEAKER_05: Yeah, for sure.
• 19:10
SPEAKER_05: Yeah, I'd love to get behind the scenes.
• 19:12
  SPEAKER_04: That's good.
• 19:13
SPEAKER_04: Speaking of behind the scenes, that's a great segue to we're gonna go into the meat of this thing and we're gonna get to know Stella now.
• 19:19
SPEAKER_04: Yay! I am so excited.
• 19:21
  SPEAKER_04: Your story is fascinating.
• 19:22
SPEAKER_04: I'm so excited to dive further in.
• 19:24
SPEAKER_04: Okay, so you you were born in Russia, yeah, and you were raised across the United States.
• 19:30
SPEAKER_04: A life lived in Geneva, New York City, Paris, Savannah, before all before Wichita.
• 19:36
  SPEAKER_04: That's quite a journey.
• 19:38
SPEAKER_04: What did each of those cities teach you about who you wanted to become?
• 19:42
  SPEAKER_06: Wow, wow.
• 19:45
  SPEAKER_06: How's your introvert?
• 19:48
  SPEAKER_06: Yeah.
• 19:49
SPEAKER_06: Well, yeah, so I wasn't on the run, I promise.
• 19:53
SPEAKER_06: Um we just we moved a lot for my mom's job.
• 19:57
SPEAKER_06: And so yeah, we immigrated from Russia.
• 20:00
SPEAKER_06: My family's like fresh off the boat.
• 20:02
SPEAKER_06: Like I can kind of hide it, but when you meet my family, you're like, oh, okay.
• 20:06
SPEAKER_06: It's like my big fat Greek wedding with Russians.
• 20:09
  SPEAKER_06: I like amazing.
• 20:10
SPEAKER_06: Yeah, I do too now, but growing up, it was kind of it was kind of, I don't know, I kind of felt weird about it, especially growing up in Savannah, Georgia, where it's like in the south, yeah, you know, so there wasn't a lot of Russians around.
• 20:23
SPEAKER_06: And I just always felt different.
• 20:25
SPEAKER_06: So I think that you know, growing up like that, I learned how to just accept myself.
• 20:33
SPEAKER_06: I mean, it's been like a whole journey for sure.
• 20:36
  SPEAKER_06: Yeah.
• 20:36
SPEAKER_06: But I was like, well, I can't change having like, you know, my babushka or you know, like my Russian nesting dolphin, like the things that the you know, the crosses everywhere.
• 20:48
SPEAKER_06: I mean, like when you go in, yeah, it's just crazy.
• 20:51
  SPEAKER_06: And the food too.
• 20:52
SPEAKER_06: I remember when I when I went to school, it was after Thanksgiving, and we had like an American Russian Thanksgiving, because my stepdad was American.
• 21:00
SPEAKER_06: So we would have like all these people over at the house and like cook all this different food.
• 21:05
SPEAKER_06: And so I'm talking with my friends, I'm like in fifth grade or something, and I was like, Yeah, did you guys enjoy cow tongue?
• 21:10
SPEAKER_06: And they were like, What?
• 21:13
SPEAKER_06: They're like, No, that's not normal at all.
• 21:17
SPEAKER_06: And I was like, Oh, okay, I'm definitely a little different, like there's a definitely a cultural, you know, difference there.
• 21:25
SPEAKER_06: So I kind of just so like, yeah, that transition was for sure, like learning how to accept that.
• 21:30
SPEAKER_06: And but when I lived in Switzerland, it was crazy because the UN's there, there's so many different cultures there, and so everyone was different, yeah.
• 21:40
SPEAKER_06: So it wasn't like, hey, you're the different one.
• 21:43
  SPEAKER_06: It's like, no, I'm different too.
• 21:45
SPEAKER_06: And just learning how to like love different cultures, I think I I definitely learned that, and that influenced my art a lot.
• 21:53
SPEAKER_06: And so we moved from so Geneva, my family moved from Geneva to Wichita, and so I kind of came here and I was like, okay, this is a cool town, but I was living in New York, going to college.
• 22:06
  SPEAKER_06: Oh, okay.
• 22:07
  SPEAKER_06: Yeah.
• 22:08
SPEAKER_06: So like we were like hopping around all three places.
• 22:11
SPEAKER_06: And so New York was kind of very similar.
• 22:14
SPEAKER_06: It was like Geneva, where it was there's so many different cultures and things like that.
• 22:18
SPEAKER_06: But New York's really gritty too, you know.
• 22:21
SPEAKER_06: So you'll have someone just like scream at you while you're walking to your job and you're just like, what's happening?
• 22:28
SPEAKER_06: You know, it seems like a problem.
• 22:30
SPEAKER_06: So you definitely were like, I'm just gonna keep in my lane, you know, as much as possible.
• 22:34
SPEAKER_06: And so I think just having that and then moving here.
• 22:38
  SPEAKER_06: I I really love Wichita.
• 22:40
  SPEAKER_06: I really do.
• 22:43
SPEAKER_05: We do love always talk about that when you're here.
• 22:45
SPEAKER_05: It once you get ingrained into Wichita, you're stuck in the web of Wichita.
• 22:49
SPEAKER_05: Yeah, that's like what we've been saying.
• 22:52
SPEAKER_06: It's really cool, and it's it was super friendly to start a business here.
• 22:56
SPEAKER_06: And people really do love different ideas, and I definitely had something different.
• 23:02
  SPEAKER_06: Yeah, and I don't know.
• 23:03
SPEAKER_06: I was just like, you know, if it fails, then I can move to a bigger city and try it out there.
• 23:08
SPEAKER_06: You know, I just knew that I wanted to start my business, and but it's been working.
• 23:12
SPEAKER_06: Yeah, it has you've grown since we've met you.
• 23:15
SPEAKER_04: I know, yeah, yeah, yeah.
• 23:16
SPEAKER_04: You were gone from upstairs to across the street now to be a little bit more than a lot of people.
• 23:19
SPEAKER_04: Yeah, my little I know it's amazing.
• 23:22
  SPEAKER_04: I love her crazy.
• 23:25
SPEAKER_04: Okay, so we we've talked about Wichita being so wonderful, and as we all know, it is, but for you specifically though, what gave you what what what about your time in Wichita gave you the bigger flashier what okay, so what was the bigger flashier things about Wichita that the other cities didn't quite give you?
• 23:47
SPEAKER_06: I think there's definitely yeah, like there's a sense of I think in every city that I've been in, there is a sense of community, but here especially it's like the I I think once you're immersed in it, people really want to see you succeed.
• 24:01
SPEAKER_06: Yeah, I think that's and the thing is it's like for my store, for example, like I don't know if I'm gonna have it for you know the next five years, 20 years, or or what, you know, that specific store and that location, but it's a good start, you know.
• 24:15
SPEAKER_06: It's a great start, it's a good start, and it inspired me to want to open up more stores, and it's yours, yeah.
• 24:22
SPEAKER_06: More stores like in different Midwest cities and kind of grow within the Midwest.
• 24:27
SPEAKER_06: And it's like geographically too, like I can I go to events like on the West Coast, on the East Coast, and I you know, and it's it's pretty easy for me to travel here.
• 24:39
SPEAKER_06: Yeah, I mean it's like their capital of the world, so if you need to take a flight, it's probably one of your best.
• 24:45
SPEAKER_06: And it and it really helps with that.
• 24:47
SPEAKER_06: And I don't know, the sense of community here, like that event yesterday was just so cool, just seeing everyone come in and just be like, What is this place?
• 24:55
SPEAKER_06: And like me talking about my story, because it's like it's like you know, you're vulnerable a little bit, being like, Hey, here's my art, yeah, absolutely absolutely no, and like I'll have people be like, Oh, I don't, you know, yeah, not that they'll be like, I hate this or whatever, but they won't click with it, yeah.
• 25:10
SPEAKER_06: So they move on or they love it, or you never know what you're gonna get when you come into the store.
• 25:16
SPEAKER_05: So I definitely agree with that vulnerability aspect of it, but also we were talking too before, it's not just word of mouth and like you look at what you like and like what you look at, it's the feeling that you have when you walk in your store.
• 25:28
  SPEAKER_05: Yeah, yeah.
• 25:29
SPEAKER_05: And I know Jim's saying walking into your store, it's just it feels good.
• 25:32
  SPEAKER_05: Yeah, it feels good.
• 25:34
  SPEAKER_05: Thank you.
• 25:34
SPEAKER_05: It's not just really nice, the eye, it's everything behind it.
• 25:37
  SPEAKER_05: Yeah, so I think that's perfect.
• 25:39
SPEAKER_06: Yeah, I definitely wanted something to be like really empowering for for women, and that's been a huge part of the identity of Bella Bonita this empowerment for women, and and that's what I I don't know, that's what I really think about when I'm designing the space and and just designing things and absolutely and having it fun and putting your mark on it.
• 26:01
  SPEAKER_05: I love it, yeah.
• 26:04
SPEAKER_04: Yeah, we couldn't do these scrunchies without her mark.
• 26:06
SPEAKER_04: Her mark is so awesome.
• 26:09
SPEAKER_05: I can't wait to see it in all the forms.
• 26:11
  SPEAKER_05: I'm excited.
• 26:11
SPEAKER_05: Yeah, that's gonna be a fun season tour for sure.
• 26:15
SPEAKER_04: I know I can definitely see these in scarves for sure.
• 26:17
SPEAKER_04: Oh yeah, these beautiful scarves.
• 26:20
SPEAKER_04: So you talked about your work is like we were just talking about part performance, part storytelling, and and part fine art.
• 26:28
SPEAKER_04: And you've worked with Prada, Tiffany, Dior, Fendi, all of these incredible names, which is fantastic.
• 26:35
SPEAKER_04: What is it like to capture a stranger like in minutes in front of a crowd?
• 26:40
  SPEAKER_06: It's pretty crazy.
• 26:41
SPEAKER_06: I do it now, like no problem, you know.
• 26:44
SPEAKER_06: Like it doesn't, I don't think I would get too like intimidated by anybody, but there there's definitely been some times like there's this one time I I did a like a smaller event at I think I was at Dillard's, and there was this older lady, and she came up to me and I did her portrait, and she didn't really speak English, but she looked at it and she goes, No.
• 27:06
SPEAKER_06: And I was like, Oh no! Oh my gosh, I just offended the hand too, yeah.
• 27:12
SPEAKER_06: The whole thing, oh my gosh, I have no idea.
• 27:15
SPEAKER_06: Her husband comes right behind her and was like, I am so sorry she doesn't know like English, and he was like trying to save the situation.
• 27:24
SPEAKER_06: I was like, you know what?
• 27:25
  SPEAKER_06: It's totally fine.
• 27:26
SPEAKER_06: Like, I get it, you know.
• 27:28
SPEAKER_06: Like I did this in like five minutes.
• 27:31
  SPEAKER_06: I don't know what she was, I don't know.
• 27:33
SPEAKER_06: Like, it's not gonna be a renaissance painting by any means, but like I just I'm so sorry, I'm gonna practice the more, you know, and I was like just going on and on about this.
• 27:43
  SPEAKER_06: Oh no.
• 27:44
SPEAKER_06: And he was like, and he just like puts all the I swear, all the cash he had in my tip jar.
• 27:48
SPEAKER_06: Oh just like, I don't think so.
• 27:51
SPEAKER_06: I'll take the no and the wallet of cash.
• 27:55
SPEAKER_06: I was like, this is awesome.
• 27:57
SPEAKER_06: So there's only been like I'm getting mixed signals here.
• 28:02
SPEAKER_06: Yeah, I don't know what the universe is trying to tell me, but yeah, I'm alright.
• 28:06
  SPEAKER_06: Yeah.
• 28:06
SPEAKER_06: So, but usually, you know, you'll have those experiences sometimes.
• 28:11
SPEAKER_06: But I think when I first started doing the live illustration, my first gig that I booked was for Fendi, you know.
• 28:19
  SPEAKER_06: So that was crazy.
• 28:20
  SPEAKER_06: No big deal.
• 28:21
SPEAKER_06: I know, and I I have no idea how I got it, you know what I mean?
• 28:25
SPEAKER_06: They just like found me on Instagram.
• 28:26
SPEAKER_06: They're like, hey, we need a live illustrator, we're gonna fly you out.
• 28:28
SPEAKER_06: And I was like, Oh yeah, totally prepared for this.
• 28:31
  SPEAKER_06: You know, incredible.
• 28:32
SPEAKER_06: And I had practice, yeah.
• 28:34
SPEAKER_06: I had practiced people, you know, and I was practicing day in, day out at the studio.
• 28:38
SPEAKER_06: Yeah, I get there and the VIP customers that they were getting the illustrations for, they're like, Oh no, they actually want to have their pets drawn.
• 28:46
  unknown: What?
• 28:47
SPEAKER_06: And I was just like, oh great.
• 28:49
  SPEAKER_06: I haven't practiced any animals, I've never, I don't really like animals, yeah.
• 28:55
SPEAKER_06: I don't draw like shihtzus or terriers or whatever.
• 28:59
SPEAKER_06: So they were just like, Yeah, can you draw my little dog?
• 29:02
SPEAKER_06: And I was like, Oh my gosh.
• 29:03
SPEAKER_06: So I just kind of like prayed and I was like, uh, so I just like was like it's done.
• 29:08
SPEAKER_06: But I'm sure they love it.
• 29:09
SPEAKER_06: But it yeah, they did, you know, and and that's another thing.
• 29:12
SPEAKER_06: It's like you overthink everything in your head.
• 29:14
SPEAKER_06: Yeah, it could have been like, I don't know what it could have just been like possum and play dead.
• 29:19
  SPEAKER_06: I I can't do this, you know.
• 29:21
SPEAKER_06: But I just kind of had to like just do it.
• 29:24
  SPEAKER_06: Yeah, seriously.
• 29:25
SPEAKER_06: Yeah, it's definitely there, there's some stories for sure, but overall, it's like it's a great experience to like capture somebody and show them what my interpretation is of them.
• 29:35
SPEAKER_06: So yeah, I love doing it.
• 29:37
  SPEAKER_06: Yeah, I love that.
• 29:38
SPEAKER_04: Yeah, so and so now you're you're here in Wichita and you launched Bellabanated Designs during COVID, yeah, which is to start a business.
• 29:47
  SPEAKER_05: Yeah, yeah.
• 29:48
  SPEAKER_05: Love, love that chapter.
• 29:50
SPEAKER_05: We've actually had a lot of entrepreneurs that we've spotted with because they all started it then because that's when their job spelled.
• 29:57
SPEAKER_05: So they're like, well, let's now I finally have time to focus on my job.
• 30:01
SPEAKER_06: I definitely had time for sure.
• 30:04
SPEAKER_04: Yeah, is that the thing?
• 30:05
SPEAKER_04: Is that what made it the moment to start?
• 30:07
SPEAKER_06: No, no, I started it January and I was like, it was like a new year's resolution.
• 30:12
SPEAKER_06: I was like, all right, let's start my business, and then COVID hit, and I was like, Great, the world's falling apart.
• 30:18
  SPEAKER_06: Just started a business.
• 30:20
SPEAKER_06: This was like four years too late, or whatever I was thinking, and yeah, we we pivoted into making you know masks and doing mask drives and things like that.
• 30:34
SPEAKER_06: So that's what that's what helped their business.
• 30:36
SPEAKER_06: Yeah, and we had I was because I I've been nine nine years sober, so we that was an NA shamblong, by the way.
• 30:44
  SPEAKER_06: That's right.
• 30:45
SPEAKER_06: Everyone's probably like sneezed, they're like disclaimer, yeah, yeah.
• 30:49
SPEAKER_06: Yeah, yeah, red full, like we're good.
• 30:52
SPEAKER_06: Um my sponsors watching this, like, what's going on?
• 30:56
SPEAKER_06: Um, but so I was I was helping these or not helping, but I was teaching these women how to sew, and we were doing everything locally.
• 31:06
SPEAKER_06: So I had about like nine women sewing and making masks, and that's how we were able to sustain because it was like nobody was looking to buy luxury scarves at the time, and that's what I wanted to start the business with.
• 31:18
SPEAKER_06: Yeah, and I wasn't doing the live illustration and events weren't happening, and so we kind of I was just like, Well, what do people need right now and what can I help with?
• 31:27
SPEAKER_05: What a great way to get your name out there too.
• 31:29
SPEAKER_06: And I'm wondering if COVID too, like because everyone was maybe on their phones more, maybe there's a lot of online shopping, so yeah, there was like huge, like my my friends who had small businesses already, like their businesses were doing pretty that's pretty great because everyone is online shopping.
• 31:46
  SPEAKER_06: That's right.
• 31:47
SPEAKER_04: Yeah, yeah, it's and like getting bigger, yeah.
• 31:50
SPEAKER_04: So then you go from that, and then now six years later, you you now have a storefront in downtown which shop in one of the most walked locations, like on like the prominent corners downtown.
• 32:03
SPEAKER_04: That is something to celebrate.
• 32:04
  SPEAKER_04: That is incredible.
• 32:06
SPEAKER_04: So cheers to you, yeah.
• 32:11
SPEAKER_04: So what what was the day-to-day like with that?
• 32:13
SPEAKER_04: It had to be the buildup I know for the store, like so.
• 32:17
SPEAKER_04: I know that you went, so you started during COVID.
• 32:19
SPEAKER_04: Yeah, um, I I found you for my wedding through Voo events, my wedding planner.
• 32:25
SPEAKER_04: Yeah, and then we see you upstairs last year, and then now you're across what was like that.
• 32:32
  SPEAKER_06: It's amazing.
• 32:33
SPEAKER_06: It happened so fast, it happened so fast.
• 32:34
SPEAKER_06: Yeah, I mean, it's kind of like you just I really my whole philosophy with life is to be present and to connect, right?
• 32:43
SPEAKER_06: So I I try to just look at what life is presenting my way and just evaluate the situation and be like, okay, yes, I'm in so for the store, for example, I got approached to be in that space.
• 32:57
SPEAKER_06: So my landlord came up to me at an event that I was illustrating at and was like, Hey, I think you need a retail space.
• 33:03
  SPEAKER_06: And I was like, I think you're crazy.
• 33:05
SPEAKER_06: I think you're I don't need that stress, I don't need a retail space, like all these stores, like you know, I was just like not in that head space.
• 33:13
SPEAKER_06: And then we met for coffee.
• 33:15
SPEAKER_06: He's like, Describe your perfect store.
• 33:17
SPEAKER_06: And I was like, Okay, I was like, for right now, I just want a room.
• 33:21
SPEAKER_06: Yeah, I want white walls, windows, and just one room.
• 33:26
SPEAKER_06: I don't want all these like subrooms or anything like that, just an open space.
• 33:29
SPEAKER_06: And he's like, Okay, let's just look at this space.
• 33:32
SPEAKER_06: And I was like, I was like, all right, so we went over and I looked at it and I was like, God damn it.
• 33:37
SPEAKER_06: You're like, you get it perfect, what?
• 33:39
SPEAKER_06: And I was like, we have a new tenant, you know, like I'm gonna do it.
• 33:44
SPEAKER_06: And so I I just did it.
• 33:45
  SPEAKER_06: I just took a risk.
• 33:46
SPEAKER_06: I think taking not necessarily, I don't want to say like a calculated risk, but taking risks with your career, yeah, yeah, pays off.
• 33:55
  SPEAKER_06: Yeah.
• 33:56
SPEAKER_05: And things like that too, like there was some sort of alignment that happened prior to that led him to come to them to come to you and be like, hey, listen, this is what I think needs to happen.
• 34:06
SPEAKER_05: And look at that, you described the perfect space he had.
• 34:08
SPEAKER_05: We deal with stuff like this all the time.
• 34:11
SPEAKER_05: Like even you being here today with us on our you know, episode two, season two, like it just makes total sense.
• 34:17
SPEAKER_05: And so I feel like just like you said, if you're taking opportunities and being present and like making the right connections along the way, boom, here we are.
• 34:26
SPEAKER_05: Yeah, and we're doing something.
• 34:27
SPEAKER_05: I don't know what we're doing, but we're kind of doing it, yeah.
• 34:31
SPEAKER_06: Here we do, it's where it's calculated, it's all about that, and it's all about yeah, just like just like looking at things and just being like, okay, like I this is the big picture I have for my company, you know, which is for me, it's pretty big.
• 34:46
SPEAKER_06: And so how do I break that apart and do things daily to get to that bigger picture?
• 34:52
SPEAKER_06: Yeah, you know, and it is it is about working, it is about hustling, but it's also about taking risks, yeah.
• 34:58
SPEAKER_06: And and they always pay off.
• 34:59
SPEAKER_06: I mean, I wanted to stop my company or not do it anymore a couple of times, you know, within the couple within the six years, you know, like where there wasn't any momentum and things like that.
• 35:12
SPEAKER_06: But I look back at it now and I'm like, why wasn't there momentum?
• 35:15
SPEAKER_06: Oh, because I wasn't doing anything, you know, or I wasn't, you know, so taking accountability for that.
• 35:21
  SPEAKER_06: And thank you, Austin.
• 35:23
  SPEAKER_06: Yeah, staying hydrated.
• 35:26
SPEAKER_06: So taking accountability for that and being like, okay, this is my responsibility, this is how much I'm exerting, and I see the the result of payback.
• 35:35
  SPEAKER_06: Yeah.
• 35:35
SPEAKER_06: So so it's just being like, you know, honest with yourself in that aspect, and just yeah, I think, but I think taking risks is like the coolest thing you could do.
• 35:45
SPEAKER_05: I think it's like a really great way to be your own hype man, anyways, because it shows like you're like, I'm paying myself by doing this, or like you're your own hype man by being like, Yeah, you've got this, do it.
• 35:54
SPEAKER_05: Yeah, yeah, you can do it, you know.
• 35:55
SPEAKER_05: Yeah, and I was like, What's the worst that can happen?
• 35:57
SPEAKER_06: And that that was really the conversation with the store at least.
• 36:00
SPEAKER_06: I was like, what's the worst that can happen?
• 36:02
SPEAKER_06: Because nobody comes in and I end up living in my store, and I'm that crazy woman that lives in the store with all the stretchies, you know what I mean?
• 36:11
SPEAKER_06: So it's like it would still look cute, I would still visit comfortable with that identity.
• 36:18
SPEAKER_06: Like if worse comes worse, you know, like I I'm fine with that.
• 36:21
SPEAKER_06: I could be known as something else.
• 36:23
  SPEAKER_06: I don't know.
• 36:23
SPEAKER_06: So I was just like, let's do it.
• 36:25
SPEAKER_06: And so I signed the lease, and yeah, it was a done deal.
• 36:29
SPEAKER_06: Well, we are so proud of you.
• 36:30
SPEAKER_06: I am proud of you.
• 36:37
  SPEAKER_04: Yeah, yes, indeed.
• 36:38
SPEAKER_04: And I'm sure there will be very many more.
• 36:41
SPEAKER_04: Um, but as an entrepreneur, yeah, you I know that there's those struggles, like and just wow, the days that you got to push through and really do that self-help.
• 36:50
  SPEAKER_04: It's huge.
• 36:51
SPEAKER_04: But I'm so glad that you pushed through and did that for yourself because look at this, this is so cool.
• 36:55
SPEAKER_05: Look, we've got a room filled with our sip squad and bonitas, yeah.
• 37:00
SPEAKER_05: And so not only can we be our only hype women and men, but we also have a good hype crew, I think, behind it.
• 37:07
  SPEAKER_06: I think so too.
• 37:07
  SPEAKER_06: Yeah, very happy.
• 37:09
SPEAKER_04: Yeah, so let's let's dig into that struggle a little bit.
• 37:13
SPEAKER_04: So we we've mentioned the season of your life has been sobriety.
• 37:17
SPEAKER_04: We talked about just briefly on that a minute ago, and and you mentioned rebuilding after a breakup while working on your path, you know.
• 37:27
SPEAKER_04: And so, however much you want to share tonight, whatever, yeah.
• 37:31
SPEAKER_04: This is such a powerful discussion because it's a struggle for so many people out there.
• 37:36
SPEAKER_04: So let's just we'd love to hold some space for that tonight and talk about it.
• 37:41
SPEAKER_06: Yeah, so I I actually, you know, uh I think it's been like five months, but it's been a while being unhappy.
• 37:49
SPEAKER_06: But like, yeah, I went through I was in a relationship for eight years, and I just had to go through that whole breakup and separation basically.
• 37:58
  SPEAKER_06: So sober.
• 37:59
  SPEAKER_06: Wow.
• 38:00
SPEAKER_06: So that's been yeah, that's been cool.
• 38:02
  SPEAKER_06: Um proud of you.
• 38:04
SPEAKER_06: I love emotions so much.
• 38:07
SPEAKER_06: Yeah, I know, but you know, it's been a lot of like going on spontaneous trips, yeah, going to the shooting range, yeah, yelling in my car.
• 38:16
SPEAKER_06: Like there's there's there's so many uh different outlets.
• 38:19
SPEAKER_06: Painting like a crazy person, you know, like there's outlets that I've been discovering of how to deal with some of that like emotional charge that I I have.
• 38:28
SPEAKER_06: So and yeah, the breakup, I mean it's crazy.
• 38:31
SPEAKER_06: It's you know, we I saw marriages come and go within that eight years, you know.
• 38:36
SPEAKER_06: So it's like it is a long time, yeah.
• 38:38
  SPEAKER_06: It's a long time.
• 38:39
SPEAKER_06: So it's like absolutely, you know, so um, and then all of a sudden you're like not talking to that person, you're not communicating with that person, you don't want anything.
• 38:49
SPEAKER_06: It changes your whole routine, it changes your whole routine.
• 38:53
SPEAKER_06: Yeah, and so like and I I I love like Bridget Jones, for example, right?
• 38:57
SPEAKER_06: So Bridget Jones is great, and but there's a scene where she's going through a breakup and she's just pounding wine, and I was like, Oh no, if I could only do that without wanting to like flee to Mexico at the same time, you know, like I cannot drink, yeah, you know, so I was just like, you know, how do I process this and and be open about it?
• 39:21
SPEAKER_06: Because it is something that I think in our society, like going through a breakup or a life change, we do turn to substances, yeah.
• 39:29
  SPEAKER_05: Absolutely.
• 39:30
SPEAKER_05: Any any sort of life change in any regard, any relationship type of relationship breakup can be very difficult.
• 39:37
  SPEAKER_05: Yeah, yeah.
• 39:38
SPEAKER_05: Do you find yourself being more social to kind of help deal with that?
• 39:42
  SPEAKER_05: Oh, yeah, yeah.
• 39:43
SPEAKER_06: I've been going out like all the time around here.
• 39:46
  SPEAKER_06: It's crazy, like it's it's insane.
• 39:47
SPEAKER_06: Like, say you were extroverted.
• 39:49
SPEAKER_06: I'm seeing a new side of me in the past, I don't know, five, six months.
• 39:53
SPEAKER_06: I've just turned into like this whole other person because I think I was so unhappy for so long, and I'm a very extreme kind of personality.
• 40:01
SPEAKER_06: So, like if I'm going through a breakup, I'm like, okay, we're doing this breakup and we're doing it right, and we're doing it, and I'm going on these trips, not just one trip, but five trips, and like, you know, and I'm not going on one date, but five dates this week.
• 40:15
SPEAKER_06: It's like it's crazy, it's too, it's like very to that extreme, and then I balance it out, right?
• 40:20
SPEAKER_06: Yeah, so I've noticed that about my personality.
• 40:23
SPEAKER_06: So it's just like I think that yeah, I have been way more social, yes, and it's pushed me in that aspect because you know, I I don't know, I just I want to meet more people and attract the people that will be good in my life.
• 40:38
SPEAKER_06: So I got rid of this relationship that wasn't good for me, and now it's opening up so many more doors and space for people that are good for me, you know.
• 40:49
SPEAKER_06: So and that's that's the been the biggest learning experience of all this is that once you get rid of that block, it opens up so many other channels, yeah.
• 40:58
SPEAKER_06: You know, so which is cool.
• 41:00
SPEAKER_05: Doesn't mean it's not so painful, but it definitely does open it all, especially when you surround yourself with good people and stay and staying busy is a big part of that.
• 41:08
SPEAKER_05: Yeah, like I've done that too, staying very busy for sure, yeah, and becoming more extroverted.
• 41:13
SPEAKER_05: Like even if I do have a night at home, I don't have anything to go do, and like I and I'm having a down day or going through to breakup or something.
• 41:20
SPEAKER_05: I'd catch my sister-in-law in the kitchen and be like, Hey, what are you doing?
• 41:24
SPEAKER_05: You want to hang out?
• 41:25
SPEAKER_05: Oh no, you want to hang out, you want to watch TV, and she's like, fine, okay, yeah.
• 41:32
SPEAKER_05: Actually, she'd be like, Okay, yeah, and come up and hang out with me.
• 41:35
SPEAKER_05: But yeah, so I'm lucky to have that, but that's awesome.
• 41:38
SPEAKER_05: I think that we can see it, you're growing bigger and badder.
• 41:41
SPEAKER_04: Yeah, and so let's talk about your art during that time.
• 41:46
SPEAKER_04: Was there like any kind of were you doing other things on the side, just like personal, like did that become kind of an outlet for you in any way or was it kind of yeah, it's weird because like art for me is what I do for a living.
• 42:00
SPEAKER_06: So it's it's been a weird transition into that over the last six years of okay, this is a hobby, and I'm like, hey, this will be a cool business, and now it's actually business.
• 42:11
  SPEAKER_06: I'm like, oh, okay.
• 42:13
SPEAKER_06: So how do I process things now?
• 42:17
SPEAKER_06: You know, and I do, I I sketch all the time.
• 42:20
SPEAKER_06: I'm not the most, I don't feel like I'm the most articulate with my feelings sometimes.
• 42:25
SPEAKER_06: So I draw a lot, or and I I try to journal, it just I don't know.
• 42:33
SPEAKER_06: It just turns into drawing.
• 42:34
SPEAKER_06: It's just like no, yeah, or it's like one run-on sentence, you know.
• 42:39
SPEAKER_06: Like I start overthinking grammar.
• 42:40
  SPEAKER_06: I'm like, okay, calm.
• 42:41
SPEAKER_06: Oh my god, you know what I mean?
• 42:43
SPEAKER_05: I've I've done that too, but no, it's just your journal.
• 42:46
  SPEAKER_06: Yeah, no, yeah.
• 42:48
SPEAKER_06: So I've tried to journal, I take a lot of pictures, you know.
• 42:51
SPEAKER_06: So like I've been documenting through photos a lot and just different things like that.
• 42:56
SPEAKER_05: Do you use a Polaroid?
• 42:58
SPEAKER_06: No, I use I use my old smartphone.
• 43:01
  SPEAKER_06: My my phone's a dinosaur.
• 43:03
SPEAKER_06: Okay, I love it to death, but it it is struggle city right now with that phone.
• 43:07
SPEAKER_06: But yeah, I use that and I just document through that.
• 43:10
SPEAKER_06: So my art has kind of like yeah, it's been it's been foundational in that.
• 43:15
SPEAKER_06: And then I I go to AA meetings all the time too.
• 43:18
SPEAKER_06: Oh, yeah, and so that's really helpful.
• 43:20
SPEAKER_06: I talk to my sponsor, I talk to friends in in the program, and and I'm like, I'm just going crazy right now.
• 43:27
  SPEAKER_06: Like let's just talk.
• 43:29
SPEAKER_06: So that's been a huge thing is like talking and kind of understanding what I'm going through and being present for that for myself.
• 43:35
SPEAKER_06: So yeah, you know, it's been it's definitely been a whole journey.
• 43:40
SPEAKER_05: Well, have you tried a rage room yet?
• 43:42
SPEAKER_05: I've really been wanting to do one, so please array.
• 43:45
  SPEAKER_05: A rage room?
• 43:47
  SPEAKER_05: Like five years now?
• 43:48
  SPEAKER_05: Oh my god.
• 43:49
SPEAKER_05: Did you guys have a car show that was downtown?
• 43:51
SPEAKER_05: I didn't meant to, but I was so tired because I spent so much.
• 43:54
SPEAKER_06: It was right outside my apartment.
• 43:56
SPEAKER_06: Yeah, you would smash a car.
• 43:58
  SPEAKER_06: Whoa.
• 43:59
SPEAKER_06: Yeah, we had a bad stuff to smash a car.
• 44:03
SPEAKER_06: And I I was with my really good friend.
• 44:06
SPEAKER_06: I wanted her to do it.
• 44:08
SPEAKER_06: She's she's more like I said, like I have extroverted friends, and she's yeah, she would be great at that, but I I I feel like I'd be like or I would get really into it and people would be like, Oh my god, that's a therapist ASAP.
• 44:23
SPEAKER_05: Throw on the point down with a sickness and just go crazy.
• 44:26
SPEAKER_05: But that's the thing about the rage room, you can rent it out to you and like a group of your friends, so like it doesn't matter, you can go crazy, you know.
• 44:33
  SPEAKER_05: I don't know about that.
• 44:35
SPEAKER_05: Or land or we can go to Goodwill and buy some breakables and bring some stuff.
• 44:41
SPEAKER_05: I can see that being something incredibly therapeutic.
• 44:44
SPEAKER_05: Yeah, I've been gonna do it for a while.
• 44:45
SPEAKER_05: We can play like baseball with glass cups, that'd be fun.
• 44:48
SPEAKER_06: Yeah, no, we wrong with that.
• 44:49
SPEAKER_06: Me and my mom have gone to a shooting range, so that's been fun.
• 44:52
SPEAKER_01: Yeah, are you guys saying that the next podcast should be over at a rage room?
• 44:56
  SPEAKER_06: Yes.
• 44:57
  SPEAKER_05: I don't know.
• 44:57
SPEAKER_05: How are you gonna deal with the side in that time?
• 45:00
SPEAKER_05: Yeah, we're gonna have to dress you up in like a full like astronaut suit projection.
• 45:04
SPEAKER_04: Yeah, they'll be like our next sip spot activity.
• 45:10
  SPEAKER_04: I love that.
• 45:11
  SPEAKER_04: Being crazy.
• 45:11
  SPEAKER_04: That would be great.
• 45:12
SPEAKER_04: All right, so okay, what do you want people who are sitting with something difficult, whether they're sober or not?
• 45:18
SPEAKER_04: What what would you like to know about going through something?
• 45:21
SPEAKER_04: What would you like them to know about going through something like that?
• 45:24
SPEAKER_06: You know, I think the best advice I've gotten, which I mean, it's the best advice now, but at the time I was kind of like, okay, you know, yes, but it's like that time does heal everything, yeah.
• 45:35
SPEAKER_06: And especially for my my breakup, like on you know, it wasn't the best circumstance, like I tried to give it a second chance, you know, after he he cheated and things like that.
• 45:50
SPEAKER_06: And so I I was like, I'm gonna, I love him, let's do this, yeah, and then it just didn't work, yeah.
• 45:58
SPEAKER_06: Like the universe is like, it's not going to work, yeah, you know.
• 46:01
SPEAKER_06: So just I think with that situation, just listening to those signs and just being like, hey, like this isn't working for you, yeah.
• 46:11
SPEAKER_06: You need to pay attention to this and wake up and start honoring what will work for you and have faith and trust that process, you know, and that's been a huge thing for me.
• 46:22
SPEAKER_06: And so I feel like if you're just you know, just trying to be, I keep saying be present, but I mean for me that was like the most difficult thing to do.
• 46:32
SPEAKER_06: And I think that being present and paying attention to what the world is trying to tell you is is ultimately the best thing to do, and time does feel it, you know, it really does, like you just gotta give it the time.
• 46:45
SPEAKER_05: Yeah, I do agree with you.
• 46:46
SPEAKER_05: I said, like it's not abnormal, and you should never guilt yourself for giving it that extra second try.
• 46:51
SPEAKER_05: Like, that is so, so common.
• 46:54
  SPEAKER_05: I've been there, yeah.
• 46:56
SPEAKER_05: Oh, yeah, I've been there.
• 46:58
SPEAKER_05: We've all been there, yeah.
• 46:59
SPEAKER_05: But I think that's like because that's a long time, you know, that's how big your heart is.
• 47:04
SPEAKER_05: But just don't wait, maybe don't wait too long the second time, you know, to read the feelings and just pay attention to this.
• 47:11
SPEAKER_06: No, I was definitely like fighting it.
• 47:13
SPEAKER_06: I was like, no, it's gonna go my way, like I want this to work out.
• 47:17
SPEAKER_06: Like it's been, you know, we were together for seven years at that point, and then he he cheated, and then I was like, okay, we're gonna give this one more go.
• 47:26
SPEAKER_06: It was a year I was in that, yeah, and I was really unhappy.
• 47:30
SPEAKER_06: A lot of wrestling, yeah, and I was really unhappy, and I was just like throwing myself into work, and I was just like, I don't want to, you know how you don't want to deal with something, yeah.
• 47:39
SPEAKER_06: Like that it was for me, it was like this person, and I was like, Oh, I was like, that's a sign, yeah.
• 47:46
SPEAKER_06: So I was like avoiding my partner, and I was just like, What is happening?
• 47:50
SPEAKER_06: You know what I mean?
• 47:51
SPEAKER_06: Yeah, so so one day I was just like, This is not clicking anymore, like I can't do this, and I just was like done.
• 48:00
SPEAKER_05: Snaps, that's so true, for sure, you know, but yeah, I think that that's great.
• 48:07
SPEAKER_05: You can put that energy towards your other things now, you know, and like so, no matter even if it is painful times with the business or any relationship, yeah, yeah.
• 48:16
SPEAKER_05: I think just now you have all the power behind you and a book.
• 48:19
SPEAKER_05: You learn a lot too, yeah.
• 48:20
SPEAKER_05: You strengthen yourself quite a bit too.
• 48:22
SPEAKER_04: You learn a lot about yourself, yeah.
• 48:24
  SPEAKER_04: I think that's great.
• 48:26
  SPEAKER_04: Absolutely.
• 48:27
SPEAKER_04: Well, Stella, this is it has been fascinating getting to learn quite a bit more about you.
• 48:32
SPEAKER_04: This has been a lot of fun, but now I think we'd like to open the floor up to our lovely sip squad.
• 48:37
SPEAKER_04: If you guys have any questions or comments that you have for Stella, we just pop up here to visit Tony with the microphone and and have at it.
• 48:46
SPEAKER_04: We'd love to hear from you.
• 48:47
SPEAKER_04: Come on, come on, give us a we got Michelle.
• 48:50
  SPEAKER_04: Hi, Michelle.
• 48:52
SPEAKER_04: Oh, lovely to see you again.
• 48:54
  SPEAKER_03: Hi, hi.
• 48:55
SPEAKER_03: I really appreciate that you work in a variety of mediums, especially with like fabric art.
• 49:02
SPEAKER_03: What is your preferred medium?
• 49:03
SPEAKER_03: Like, do you have silk or do you do dyed fabrics or anything like that?
• 49:08
  SPEAKER_06: Oh, preferred medium.
• 49:10
SPEAKER_06: Yeah, I I love working with silk.
• 49:13
SPEAKER_06: I just I've always been gravitated towards it.
• 49:15
SPEAKER_06: Most of our products that we have, all of our products are silk.
• 49:19
SPEAKER_06: And so I think why I resonated with that so much was when I started my business, I didn't know how to transfer an image onto fabric.
• 49:29
SPEAKER_06: Like I had to teach myself how to do that, like sublimation printing.
• 49:32
SPEAKER_06: I we used to print our own fabric.
• 49:34
SPEAKER_06: So Lexi would come with me and we would like put it through the press and put the image onto the fabric.
• 49:41
SPEAKER_06: So we did it from like from the very beginning of it.
• 49:45
SPEAKER_06: So I before that, before learning that process of the sublimation printing, I was painting on silk.
• 49:53
  SPEAKER_06: Yeah.
• 49:53
SPEAKER_06: So I was I was literally like I had like a year sober, and I was like, I'm gonna start this cool company, and I was like, I don't know how to start this cool company, and I don't know how to do anything.
• 50:06
SPEAKER_06: So I was like, I just got a bunch of paint, and my my cat was like going in the paint and messing up everything.
• 50:15
SPEAKER_06: That whole kind of animal print right there.
• 50:17
SPEAKER_06: Yeah, I was just like, I was just like crying, like oh god, I'm gonna do anything, I don't know what I'm doing.
• 50:22
SPEAKER_06: And my mom's like, You got this, and I was like, Yay! So that's you know, the support, but yeah, so I I think that it's like an emotional connection with silk, I think.
• 50:34
  SPEAKER_05: So yeah, great question.
• 50:37
SPEAKER_05: Thank you for your question, Michelle.
• 50:39
SPEAKER_04: We got another one over here.
• 50:41
  SPEAKER_04: That's uh Mr.
• 50:42
SPEAKER_04: Timothy Larson over there with connection.
• 50:44
  SPEAKER_00: Thank you, thank you.
• 50:45
SPEAKER_00: Long time listener, first time caller.
• 50:49
  SPEAKER_00: What's next?
• 50:50
SPEAKER_00: What's your next big project that you want to tackle?
• 50:54
SPEAKER_06: Yeah, uh, so we are planning like for next year in terms of products.
• 51:01
SPEAKER_06: I want to get into the makeup space, and so we're developing products right now for makeup.
• 51:07
  SPEAKER_06: Oh my gosh.
• 51:08
SPEAKER_06: And I would love to get into denim and you know, just basically world domination.
• 51:14
SPEAKER_06: Yeah, but like subtly dominate everything.
• 51:21
SPEAKER_06: Can we go PowerPoup girls on this?
• 51:22
SPEAKER_05: Yeah, can we get like a can we do like a PowerPoint pose?
• 51:25
SPEAKER_06: Yeah, just like subtle, but I you know, I I want my brand to be as big as possible.
• 51:31
SPEAKER_06: You know, I work at brands like Kendra Scott, Spain, you know, these like legacy brands made by women, like and they were in their rooms, you know.
• 51:41
SPEAKER_06: Like Kendra Scott had three kids, and she was a single mom, and and she hustled and made it to what it is now.
• 51:48
SPEAKER_06: So, like hearing those stories really inspire me.
• 51:51
SPEAKER_06: And I'm like, why not think big and why not do that?
• 51:55
  SPEAKER_06: Heck yeah.
• 51:55
  SPEAKER_06: So that's it's why I got chill bumps.
• 51:57
  SPEAKER_06: I know that's what I want to do.
• 52:01
  SPEAKER_06: That's what I'll do.
• 52:02
  SPEAKER_06: That's what you'll do.
• 52:03
SPEAKER_05: All right, so look out for her, makeup.
• 52:05
  SPEAKER_05: I'm loving world domination.
• 52:07
SPEAKER_05: Yeah, that's what you should name your makeup line.
• 52:09
  SPEAKER_05: I like it.
• 52:10
  SPEAKER_05: I do too.
• 52:10
SPEAKER_05: I think we're on the same line.
• 52:12
  SPEAKER_05: See, that's fun.
• 52:13
SPEAKER_05: This is why we love collaborating.
• 52:15
  SPEAKER_04: Yeah, I love it.
• 52:17
SPEAKER_04: Do we have any other questions from Marsip Squad?
• 52:20
SPEAKER_04: We're all right, all right, all right.
