- 0:00I thought it would be a great idea if I interviewed my wife
- 0:06and see what you had to say. OK, you look good.
- 0:10Thank you. And I love you.
- 0:12I love you too. I love my wife.
- 0:15And before we even get started, I want everybody to know that
- 0:21we've been married 38 years, 38 years.
- 0:26But we met each other in night November.
- 0:30No, Yeah, November of 80 or when we started school.
- 0:34So we've been together 41 years, 40, something like that.
- 0:37We've been together 41 years. And Kim is my high school
- 0:41sweetheart and she has you have been with me through it all,
- 0:48everything. Because we met each other when
- 0:52we're 16 and 17 years old. Right.
- 0:54OK, so let's start out like this.
- 1:00Where were you born and raised? Where did where?
- 1:03Where did you come from, Kim? Saint Louis I was born and
- 1:09raised here in Saint Louis all over St.
- 1:11Louis in the city. Well, everywhere.
- 1:14From the time I started kindergarten to graduating, I
- 1:18had been to nine different schools.
- 1:20Yeah. Whoa.
- 1:23It's a lot say that. Again, you were at 9 different
- 1:27schools. In 13 years.
- 1:29Yes. Why?
- 1:29Why were you at 9 different schools?
- 1:31We. Just we moved a lot and so I
- 1:35have lots of friends now everywhere.
- 1:38You know what, no, take that, take that as positive mental
- 1:43attitude. People always say to me, man, is
- 1:45that Kitty Wallace really happy. So to me, moving 9 * 9 different
- 1:51schools sounds crazy, but I like the way you put it.
- 1:54You said I have more friends, I do, That's fantastic.
- 1:58So what I do like about you moving 9 different times is
- 2:05because of that we met each other and you moved out.
- 2:11You were in the city. You moved out with us rednecks
- 2:14in Arnold, MO, and I was in photography class at Fox High
- 2:22School 1980. And all of a sudden you come
- 2:26walking in that room and I was like, holy moly.
- 2:30I always tell everybody you look like Bo, Derek, Beautiful or
- 2:34Raquel. Wells.
- 2:35Or Raquel. Or Raquel Welch at Rick Mast He.
- 2:40Still calls me Raquel. Because because I was on
- 2:43SiriusXM or something like that and I said my wife remind me of
- 2:47Raquel Welch. Well, you are.
- 2:48You're dark skinned. Where does the dark skin and
- 2:52black hair, where does that come from?
- 2:54Because you, you really do stand apart.
- 2:58I mean, yes, I can see that your family, you're all one.
- 3:01You all are kind of dark skin, but you're really.
- 3:04Well, it's Italian, dark German and that's it.
- 3:09You're are you got? You're not Indian.
- 3:12Somewhere along the line there's a piece of it that I don't know.
- 3:16Because your maiden name is Pool, but your mom's maiden name
- 3:19is Sunshine. But it's Sun, Sunshine, and they
- 3:24changed. The spelling somewhere through
- 3:27the. German.
- 3:29So anyway, you moved out with us rednecks and I drove you nuts.
- 3:34I was flirting with you. What do you remember about us
- 3:37getting together? I remember that I missed you
- 3:43once you were gone, but you did drive me crazy.
- 3:48Why do you miss me? Because the class was kind of
- 3:51boring. Journal journalism is more
- 3:54boring than photography. So you were bored because I
- 3:58wasn't around anymore? Correct.
- 4:00So. So I'm the same way today.
- 4:02I drive people nuts, but when I leave then they get bored.
- 4:08Yeah, it's I'm 58 and they're they're the same.
- 4:11Thing drive me nuts. I'm used to it by now.
- 4:16So we'll get to that point, OK, When we were in school.
- 4:21So we ended up, we ended up, I had to go to, you know, third
- 4:26period or whatever it was, you know, we went to it.
- 4:29We separated because of the way it was school.
- 4:32But then we are in our race shop one night, the phone rings and I
- 4:38answer. Poor boy Chassis.
- 4:40Rusty's business. Poor boy Chassis.
- 4:43And do you remember what you said to me?
- 4:46I do. What'd you say?
- 4:47Because I know. Something about being a crime to
- 4:52want to go out with you because once you were gone, I realized
- 4:55that I did like you. So you said, so I.
- 5:00Called you. I made the first phone call,
- 5:02yes. And you and I, I said, who is
- 5:05this? And you said, Kim Poole, is it a
- 5:08crime to want to go out with you?
- 5:10And I'm like, no. So so we set up.
- 5:14What made you say that? Just because I told a friend of
- 5:18mine, I said you're not going to believe who I think I like and
- 5:21she told me your name, so I'm. Like it makes me happy that you
- 5:28like me because I love you. I know so much.
- 5:32There's nobody like you. Yeah.
- 5:34What say that? There's nobody like you.
- 5:37That makes me happy. I'm going to cry if I don't
- 5:39stop. But anyway, moving forward.
- 5:43So we went on a date, you know, and now it's time to kind of
- 5:47Fast forward For a lot of people out there.
- 5:54I see it all the time. They they get married and their
- 6:00husband or boyfriend is a race car driver and they don't take
- 6:04kindly to the racing because the racing consumes my life.
- 6:11You never threatened me. You never said race car or me.
- 6:15Why did you? Why did you let me race?
- 6:20Well, there's a fine line there. You either accept it or you
- 6:25don't. It is a hard life, lot of
- 6:27sacrificing. But I don't know.
- 6:30I had the kids and I was busy. And we were boyfriend,
- 6:35girlfriend and we were leaving every week going.
- 6:39I was with Rusty every week. Nobody had to.
- 6:41Work. You worked.
- 6:45We were broke. Literally.
- 6:47I worked. You worked.
- 6:49What were your jobs? I worked in an accounting firm.
- 6:53I worked in. I was Jack of all trades at
- 6:56Pope's Cafeteria here in Saint Louis.
- 6:58You worked at a cafeteria. In bank buildings we did
- 7:02executive parties and we served the executives lunch so.
- 7:06Everybody always different. Everybody wants to know, did you
- 7:12so like say you made a whole bunch of spaghetti or what?
- 7:16Potato salad. How would you save it for the
- 7:19next day or would you just throw that food out?
- 7:23No, cause 'cause it kind of like you kind of like read a a
- 7:26cafeteria. Right.
- 7:28Well, some things were saved, some things went out.
- 7:31It just really depended. But you know, we knew how much
- 7:36to make based on the last time we made it or something.
- 7:41So we didn't have a lot of. Waste.
- 7:42So you didn't have a lot of waste.
- 7:44So I remember that you worked hard, You had a job.
- 7:49Tell me all your jobs. I worked at several of the
- 7:54different. Wendy's.
- 7:56I did Wendy's when I was 16. Well, I I was only I, I met you
- 8:01when I was. I know I was. 1617.
- 8:05Right. So I worked there, somebody that
- 8:09I had babysat for, he says. As much of A babysitter you are,
- 8:13we don't want to lose you, but I really need you at the store.
- 8:16I was a good worker, and so I worked at Wendy's, then I
- 8:21graduated, I went to Pope's cafeteria, worked at several of
- 8:25their different things, and then I worked at an accounting firm
- 8:29and then I was going. To a new.
- 8:33Job and you stopped me from going because you said we're
- 8:36moving. Well, you went to go to work
- 8:39downtown Saint Louis, rough area.
- 8:42And I came to pick you up after work one day and I went.
- 8:45No, no. It's one thing to work in the
- 8:47city, but you know, you were in a rough area.
- 8:50I didn't like that and it. Yeah.
- 8:52So we. So then you allowed me.
- 8:57When did you realize you were all in that we were going to
- 8:59race. Was there ever a point?
- 9:02Because I don't know if I remember that we were going to
- 9:05race like we like we were broke all the time.
- 9:10Yeah, it didn't matter. No, because we didn't care about
- 9:13money, we just were doing what we wanted to do.
- 9:16You did what you wanted to do, but, oh, I mean, inevitably I
- 9:21knew you were going to be a race car driver.
- 9:23I mean, it was in your family. That's what you were doing.
- 9:27I just didn't want you to leave me in Saint Louis and head to
- 9:30Charlotte. Oh yeah, So you, you knew I was
- 9:34going to race and we're boyfriend, girlfriend.
- 9:37And in 1984, I get I end up becoming the crew chief in the
- 9:43Cup Series. Joe Rutner was the driver, Levi
- 9:46Garrett was the sponsor. And I never really heard that
- 9:49part. So the reason you went with me
- 9:51because. Because what?
- 9:53Well, before that I kept thinking, you kept talking about
- 9:56going to Charlotte, going to Charlotte, and I thought I can't
- 10:00go to Charlotte. But then I was afraid that you
- 10:03were going to leave me here and go.
- 10:06So anyhow, you went, I know you went first.
- 10:12We were getting married in the middle of that year that we just
- 10:15assumed. 23rd 1984 we got married.
- 10:17Yeah. And so I came down about a month
- 10:20later and we found a place and stuff so.
- 10:24So time moves on. You went through some of my
- 10:28toughest times in racing. So, you know, I remember on the
- 10:32back of our hauler, it, it, you know, I painted this thing, it
- 10:36said tough times last a while, tough people last forever.
- 10:40I went through a lot of I mean, I was always happy, always
- 10:44going, but but I never really got exactly everything I wanted.
- 10:47So you dealt with a lot of my depression.
- 10:52I was bummed out that I didn't get exactly what I want.
- 10:54Did you? What was your process there?
- 10:58I mean, how did you help me? I'm not sure because they, they
- 11:04were pretty tough and, you know, you find out who your friends
- 11:09are, but it affected our whole family, not just you, you know,
- 11:15the kids, the kids. I mean, you know, people that
- 11:20think that oh, well, you just get over it and you move on or
- 11:24you go to a new ride or whatever.
- 11:25But emotionally, it affects you and affect the kids.
- 11:31And I'll never forget a couple times they told us leave your
- 11:35phones here, don't answer any calls, go to Charleston, go.
- 11:39And we did. We took our phones with us.
- 11:41But I think something good turned out or wanted.
- 11:43Well, you know what? So we we can't, we're not going
- 11:46to do this in a timeline. However, you know, we start out,
- 11:51you know nothing, right? We've been together way.
- 11:55I mean, we had nothing right? Like 0, not even a car, a
- 11:58passenger car. And you've been with me through
- 12:02it all. But we went from racing in ASA
- 12:07kind of like, oh, how are we doing this?
- 12:09You know, we had sponsorship, John Childs, Don Kern.
- 12:13And then when we made it to NASCAR, it was a dream.
- 12:18It was a dream to make it to NASCAR.
- 12:20But for me, it was a nightmare for me, it wasn't at the start.
- 12:27How would you say as a wife and a mother, how is it like for you
- 12:32to be a NASCAR, especially for a driver?
- 12:35I consider myself like a, you know, now don't get mad at me.
- 12:39I consider myself like AC plus driver in NASCAR.
- 12:43We had nine NASCAR Xfinity wins and we had a lot of great stats,
- 12:49but I wasn't Jeff Gordon. Did that work hard on you during
- 12:54that? Because I didn't want to marry
- 12:55Jeff Gordon. Yeah, so you you don't.
- 12:58No, I just we are who we are. We don't try to be anybody else.
- 13:08And I just, we just did what we did, you know, we had parties,
- 13:14we had friends, the kids had things.
- 13:16We always had something going on at our house.
- 13:18Yeah, you. You were.
- 13:19You were into me for Kenny back in high school.
- 13:23Yeah. So you didn't care about finding
- 13:25a sponsor? No.
- 13:26In other words, you met me. I didn't.
- 13:28Marry you because you raced. You met me because you loved me.
- 13:33You didn't meet. We didn't have any money.
- 13:35Actually, you bought my very first Dylan trailer.
- 13:38Yes, like $2100. You save that up.
- 13:42Bought my first trailer so so you never so when I didn't run
- 13:45good in NASCAR. No, I felt really bad for you
- 13:49because there was a lot of behind the scenes struggles that
- 13:55went on in your racing career, you know, and I thought we did
- 14:01the best we could with all of that.
- 14:02Yeah, you know, I mean, there was some really hurtful things,
- 14:09but we just, I don't know, we just, we're in our house and we
- 14:12did our thing. What?
- 14:13Pissed you off the most. Oh God, at least too many.
- 14:17Do you remember one thing that just, like stands out to you?
- 14:20Like for me, you know, the worst time in my NASCAR career was in
- 14:241993 when when Felix Sabatas fired me.
- 14:30That was the greatest. Thing that happened to us.
- 14:33Yeah, it was. It was because my favorite
- 14:38filbert, Mertasi, came into play and to this day, that man is my
- 14:45favorite. And Filbert just passed away.
- 14:49He did. Very sad.
- 14:50What a good man out of Nashville, TN That was that red
- 14:53dog car and we won races and and when when Felix fired me Filbert
- 15:02hired me right away. We didn't miss a beat and we
- 15:06went on to have a killer year. We won, we won like 3 races and
- 15:10I think we won three races in 1994.
- 15:13And yeah, from then on, you know, it was just kind of it was
- 15:18just we were living. It wasn't just us.
- 15:20I I know other drivers, they, you know, go through that too,
- 15:25you know, and it's like, oh, this is rough, you know, But I
- 15:28will say this, the majority of your career was racing as we all
- 15:34knew it. It was fun.
- 15:36It's competitive. You weren't worrying about your
- 15:37job every week. You weren't, you know, it, it
- 15:40was fun. It was just the last four years
- 15:43that were a little bit stressful.
- 15:45Yeah. So basically it was a good life.
- 15:48So I'm looking at my notes here. I wrote some notes down.
- 15:52You're you're hardcore. So I'm AI pacify.
- 15:56In other words, I want people to be happy.
- 15:58You, you know, we're Ying and Yang, you know, opposites
- 16:03attract. So when people cock you wrong,
- 16:06you're done with them. Me, I like try to mend the
- 16:09fence. You know, I'm so having I'm so
- 16:12used to having a, you know, work with racers.
- 16:15You know, you see them in the pit air.
- 16:16You, you, you write people off. But you've always been that way.
- 16:20Why are you like that? Why are you so hardcore?
- 16:24I probably get that from my grandma pool.
- 16:26However, you can ask any woman out there and she will tell you
- 16:31that if you cross her husband or her kids, you're done right?
- 16:34And and that's it. Because you're a good person,
- 16:37Guinea. Nobody, nobody should treat you
- 16:41bad. You have helped more people from
- 16:441 extreme to the next and I know that you know.
- 16:47So you know, I know. So what?
- 16:50What about, you know, the interview's about you, which you
- 16:55know, we just want to know your feelings.
- 16:57Well, go ahead. Those are my feelings, you know,
- 16:59that I some people get a second chance.
- 17:03It's kind of depends on what it is.
- 17:05But some people, they're just not worthy of a second chance,
- 17:10just. So you just write them off.
- 17:11I just write them off, I don't go on talking.
- 17:13About and I'm always trying to please them.
- 17:15But it's like, good guy, I never knew you, you know, only because
- 17:21I'm a nice person too. And I do a lot.
- 17:25And you know, I just, you know. So let's move forward now, OK,
- 17:35we have 3 awesome girls Brooke, Brandy, Brittany.
- 17:40But during that period you tied your tubes and you always told
- 17:49me you wanted to have seven kids because you came from a big
- 17:53family, correct? So we went back and we tried to
- 18:00retie your tubes, right? So we have 3 wonderful kids, but
- 18:06you wanted to have more, correct?
- 18:08You tie your tubes and here we are with these kids.
- 18:13What was going on during that time?
- 18:16I. I'm not going to talk about why
- 18:22I made the decision to do that, right, but I did.
- 18:28And when Brittany was 4, you were gone.
- 18:32And all of a sudden I'm picking her up in the preschool line and
- 18:35I'm like, oh, this is my last year.
- 18:37You want more kids? But I shouldn't have listened to
- 18:41that person. I should have just did it so
- 18:43anyhow. So somebody convinced you?
- 18:45Yeah. Which?
- 18:46Which we don't need to talk about that anyhow.
- 18:49So we did. And so we decided to check into
- 18:54IVF. Right.
- 18:56And it and it didn't take. It did not.
- 18:59Well, we did. That twice and yeah, it didn't.
- 19:02And then my sister decided to get pregnant and so we just
- 19:06played with hers. But we have 3 wonderful girls.
- 19:10We do. And that was you wanted a house
- 19:13full of kids. I did.
- 19:14I had a. Great.
- 19:15You're a great mother. I mean, we're running through
- 19:17the Indianapolis airport with three girls and there's Dick
- 19:21Trickle saying here, let me help you.
- 19:23I mean our. I have a lot of patience too.
- 19:26I don't. I do, and when it comes to
- 19:28motherhood and stuff like that, I'm very organized when it comes
- 19:33to that and my girls are great. Why do you listen?
- 19:37I'm with you. My life with you has has been
- 19:41awesome with the kids, but I just find it unbelievable now.
- 19:45Do you think you wanted too many kids because your mom is one of
- 19:4810? Your mom is one of 10.
- 19:51Yeah, it just kind of runs in our family.
- 19:54We're Catholic, so all these families, you have huge
- 19:58families, but I don't know. I just I love the kids that me
- 20:03having girls. All their friends were always
- 20:06over at our house so I still ended up.
- 20:08We all was these bonus daughters.
- 20:11We always had parties. I mean, our house was just
- 20:13party, party, party. Yeah, You know, not parties, but
- 20:17I mean birthday parties, you know.
- 20:19Yeah. Easter, Christmas, Thanksgiving,
- 20:21I mean, every, every event. You.
- 20:23Well, well, you know, it was important for me.
- 20:25Like I missed quite a few couple few years in there while I was
- 20:31raising my kids and they're in school, but it was more
- 20:34important to me to be at home raising them so they didn't miss
- 20:39out on sleepovers or they didn't miss out going and doing these
- 20:42things. I did all these things with
- 20:44them. I I find it fascinating that you
- 20:48are the ultimate racer's wife. Like, like you could teach
- 20:52everybody else a lesson. I mean, I will brag on Kim.
- 20:55Kim is the ultimate I mean, if they're if we're going to have
- 20:59like a group, she's the queen of racing wise.
- 21:02So like, I mean, you've you've threatened to kick people's ass.
- 21:06You've lived at the race tracks, You've literally lived at the
- 21:10race tracks. But now that I go dirt racing,
- 21:14I'm not saying you don't want nothing to do with it.
- 21:16Why? Why don't you go dirt racing
- 21:18with me? Probably because we did asphalt
- 21:22racing for 30 years and it was all about him. 30 years of
- 21:27racing and when I decide to go dirt racing it, it's for a
- 21:30hobby. You're like screw this.
- 21:33Yeah, and I and I do go and you know, but I had you.
- 21:36Support me. I do, but my grandbabies came
- 21:39along and I was babysitting for them and now I'm kind of solo
- 21:43again because they're all going to school.
- 21:45So I can go with you. But you know me.
- 21:48I'm going to be pick and choose. So we'll kind of Fast forward a
- 21:54lot. Like I said, we're not my new
- 21:57word is time stamp. We're not time stamping this
- 22:00interview. We're getting to know Kim.
- 22:02So I've announced that this is going to be my last year racing
- 22:08all over America and and then I'm going to right size even
- 22:14more. And then in 2023, I'm going to
- 22:17race right around a home. Now you and I have talked about
- 22:22this over and over. What do you think about my idea
- 22:27that's? Funny, yeah.
- 22:29You, you, you good with me slowing my racing down?
- 22:32Yeah, yeah, I'm good. Yeah, OK, good.
- 22:35I I have. I have things that keep me busy
- 22:37when you're gone. So, right, So a lot of people
- 22:45like my face, like this is the real me.
- 22:47The way I'm talking, this is the way I really AM.
- 22:51And, and as I'm talking to you, I'm realizing that, you know,
- 22:54this is really me. You know, when people ask you,
- 22:58is Kenny really like, I mean, you know, I know and, and, but
- 23:03I'm dead serious about this. I, there's two or three of me.
- 23:07It depends what person I want to give to that person.
- 23:10Do they want the entertainment guy?
- 23:12Do they want the businessman? Who?
- 23:16Who is who? Tell them who is Kenny Wallace?
- 23:20You're all of the above. You really are like, you're very
- 23:24smart and you are fun. Always, never, never, ever a
- 23:29dull moment around here, you know, So I mean, you know.
- 23:34So when when I see people reach out to you on social media, is
- 23:38he as great? Is he as am I?
- 23:40Crazy number one question. When you were doing speed TV,
- 23:44they would ask me. And speed with entertainment.
- 23:47Is he as crazy that home at home and I'd sit back and I'd think
- 23:51I'm like, well, if you mean if he's jumps on my furniture, you
- 23:55know, I mean you're just fun and every day is you know, I mean
- 24:01even. So I'm not crazy.
- 24:03You're not crazy, but I think even when you had bad years or
- 24:08bad times at the race tracks, I we never felt that.
- 24:12I mean, we knew it, but you never come home and threw that
- 24:18on top of us. In other words, we never felt
- 24:20like you were. You hit a lot, I think.
- 24:23Or you could handle that better. I was, you know, you're you're
- 24:28right, though. You said it right.
- 24:29So during my whole racing career, it only got any bang,
- 24:34bang at the end, correct. Yeah.
- 24:36Because ASA was awesome. The Bush Series was awesome.
- 24:40You know, we had some good cup runs, but the cup rides were
- 24:43super hard to come by. And when we did get the good cup
- 24:46rides, we ran good, you know, like, like that Pennzoil car and
- 24:50the Havilland car. So those were good times.
- 24:54And, and it takes you to remind me.
- 24:57So the reason I asked you about am I crazy is because you know,
- 25:06it's, it's funny because there are racers that really know me.
- 25:09And but for the people that don't know me, they ask
- 25:13questions. I'm like, you know, people And
- 25:16I'm, I'm like, do you think I go down the straightaway?
- 25:18Like, you know, there's people like that.
- 25:20I know they really think that I'm crazy.
- 25:22You know, I know they do. It has always caught me off
- 25:27guard that you know I'm in the end of the day if you're.
- 25:30And I always know when you're stirring the pot when you're on
- 25:34social media. How do you know I'm?
- 25:35Because you start laughing and I'm like, what are you doing
- 25:40over there? But The thing is, is that not
- 25:43everybody is laughing, you know? So like when you say or do
- 25:50something and they come back with something, I think, oh,
- 25:54really? You don't know Kenny better than
- 25:56that. To know that he's just pulling
- 25:59your leg or something. I don't 'cause you're not a,
- 26:02you've never been mean to anybody.
- 26:04So I find social media, I find social media fascinating from
- 26:10the fact that when me and you were kids in Saint Louis, I used
- 26:15to listen to KMOX AM talk radio. I've always said that you I love
- 26:20debate radio. And, and when people debate,
- 26:23that means it means they don't agree they're debating something
- 26:27and it, it fascinates me. So I'll just, sometimes I won't
- 26:31even bring up a subject. I'll just say a name and Oh my
- 26:34God, all it takes is a name, like a name, like 4 letters.
- 26:39I just put it up. I just say it and everybody
- 26:41starts fighting. And I find that funny because it
- 26:46doesn't take anything for people to start.
- 26:49I won't say arguing, but just yes, no, yes, no.
- 26:53Debating but some. It depends on the temperament of
- 26:57the person. To some people you could really
- 27:00get under their skin and laughs. So you know, that's why whenever
- 27:05anything is very controversial, I will try and tell.
- 27:08You. You tell me.
- 27:09I do tell you because I don't want people to get mad at you
- 27:12because you're not that person. And.
- 27:14You don't like really? You don't like it when I talk
- 27:16politics? I don't at all because I'm not
- 27:20right. So let's let's come to not the
- 27:25end, but let's get to where we are right now.
- 27:29We're downstairs in our 2600 square foot home.
- 27:35I feel like we have a modest home, but you have done a lot
- 27:39with this basement. You what got you into making
- 27:44wreaths? When was that moment you said
- 27:46I'm going to make wreaths? Somebody just asked me if I had
- 27:53done this and I said no, I haven't.
- 27:56So I went and took a class at Ben Franklin Crafts when they
- 28:00were in business. And I never ever thought, I
- 28:05mean, I've had a lot of hobbies. I've always been active in that.
- 28:11But I just went. I made my first.
- 28:13I remember you telling me, Dave. Wreath.
- 28:15I remember how it was. Pretty nice.
- 28:17I remember when you said, Kenny, I'm going to Ben Franklin to
- 28:21learn how to make wreaths. I'm like, you're doing what
- 28:24you're going to bet is Ben. I don't even think Ben
- 28:26Franklin's all around. Anymore.
- 28:27No, they're not. Darn it, they were a good they
- 28:29were. They time stamped my life.
- 28:32Ben Franklin. I mean kind of like Kmart or
- 28:35Sears. Ben Franklin was the Hobby
- 28:37Lobby. So you learn how to make these
- 28:40rates now. Did.
- 28:41And I didn't think that I would make them to the altitude.
- 28:45I do now, yeah, but I love it, Yeah.
- 28:49I don't think I sold all my cake decorating stuff.
- 28:52I sold all my scrapbooking and stamping stuff for this because
- 28:56I didn't need it anymore. So you don't have to talk about
- 29:01this, but I'm going to bring it up.
- 29:04I tell people I, I tell some of my closest friends.
- 29:07The reason Kim makes Reese is because you were diagnosed with
- 29:11anxiety. One night we're laying in bed
- 29:15and you're like, you feel this and I'm like, what?
- 29:18And you and I didn't feel anything but when you went to
- 29:21the hospital a couple times. Yes, we did.
- 29:25You know, 1-3 in the morning and you end up being diagnosed with
- 29:29anxiety. And I know a lot of famous,
- 29:31famous people, a lot of people have anxiety.
- 29:34Do you feel like the wreaths help you with anxiety?
- 29:40I do personally, because, you know, I start with a wreath.
- 29:46I just pull out, make it, and I don't know what I'm going to do
- 29:51with it until it's all finished. I mean, it's hard to say.
- 29:54Oh, Haiti, you got pictures of it?
- 29:56No, not what I'm making because I don't know.
- 29:59I think it does help me with my anxiety.
- 30:04You're really talented. Thank you.
- 30:06I mean, no, I mean, you're really good at that.
- 30:08You know what? Though I put my heart and soul
- 30:10into building these wreaths, I do so many custom orders for
- 30:17people, and I don't think I've ever got a negative review at
- 30:21all from anybody. I mean, like, they're like, you
- 30:24captured it or whatever. I mean, they just start throwing
- 30:27things at me and I'll go to the other end of the earth to find
- 30:31what? I see, you know, so some of
- 30:35these wreaths become part of our house.
- 30:37So like, you have people that had been in war and they died
- 30:42and I've seen you and Brandy Brandy's got a cricket machine.
- 30:45Which I've learned how to use now.
- 30:47Tell me about those wreaths where the people want a shield
- 30:49and and they're. And then they came in the, yeah,
- 30:53some people. I mean, I do them for
- 30:55everything. And it's almost like my saying,
- 30:59if you can dream it, I'll build. Your wreaths, you make memories
- 31:04for people. They're, they're not just
- 31:06baseball, football. I mean, these wreaths are like
- 31:08these people's that you capture people's lives.
- 31:13I do and you work. Hard at that.
- 31:15I do because I'm trying to reach.
- 31:18I'm trying to like reach into their head to see what they're
- 31:23picturing because sometimes they don't even know until.
- 31:26But you know, I don't glue nothing until it's done.
- 31:29I let them see everything. If you don't like something,
- 31:32please tell me because I have all of this stuff.
- 31:35You're really, although you're having fun.
- 31:38I think it it what you know, I'm a fan of yours.
- 31:43So when I watch you, I'm like, you're like me.
- 31:46You're like, we're racing and we're building Reese because
- 31:49it's fun, but we're really serious.
- 31:51No, we are really serious. And when when this pandemic
- 31:56started a couple years ago, I was scared to death because I
- 32:00also have diabetes and I spent, I couldn't take the news no
- 32:05more. I spent either in my room
- 32:09watching Hallmark or down here. And everybody else was in the
- 32:12same boat I was. We were all afraid to go
- 32:14outside. We were inside, so I was just as
- 32:18busy as I am at Christmas time. I was getting wreath orders and
- 32:22I was just down here. Happy you you mentioned that
- 32:26you've always told me you don't watch the news.
- 32:28You don't like the news. But.
- 32:30But I believe in current affairs.
- 32:32I watch the news. I watch it watch it and then I
- 32:35turn it off and I leave. When in your life did you?
- 32:39I mean, because I ever since I met you, you're like, I ain't
- 32:42watching the news. What is it that you don't like
- 32:44about the news you? Don't like anything bad so I
- 32:48want maybe I live in a fairy tale.
- 32:51No, don't you just don't. You know, but I always want to
- 32:56think or find the good in somebody.
- 32:59So I'm always that stuff is negative.
- 33:04Yeah, and it's and it's worse and it's worse now.
- 33:06Oh, it's terrible. And so I don't watch the news.
- 33:10Did you ever hear that? Song about the news.
- 33:11I don't watch horror films, you know?
- 33:13That we'll go to scary movies. So everything we, I didn't let
- 33:18my kids watch Ninja Turtles or any of that stuff, my kids
- 33:21watched # puppies and My Little Pony when they were little.
- 33:24And so I've always been like that to try and want everybody.
- 33:30To be in our in our day. There was that song.
- 33:35You got the bubble headed bleach pond.
- 33:37She comes on at 5. She can tell you about the plane
- 33:40crash with it. The leam in her eye.
- 33:43People love it when you die. Give me dirty laundry.
- 33:46So you're saying F song is accurate?
- 33:49Yeah, I, no, I I just don't. Yeah, I don't watch any of that
- 33:55stuff. Well, Kimberly, this has been
- 33:57fantastic. I hope, I hope that you all
- 34:00learned a little bit about Kim. And you know, I want to thank
- 34:07you for letting me race. I think that our relationship
- 34:15sometimes as work is so good because I go racing and I come
- 34:18home and I think you love me more, no.
- 34:23No, but it does give me a break to do what I wanted to.
- 34:27Oh, no. But here's the reason for that.
- 34:29OK, When you're home, I feel like my duty is to do whatever
- 34:38we're going to do or whatever you need me to do.
- 34:42You know God only knows your schedule changed daily before.
- 34:45I want to say something though. I told your mom this.
- 34:50Kim is tough. Kim is hardcore.
- 34:55But our marriage is truly 5050. Because I don't ever tell you
- 34:59what to do. No, you don't.
- 35:00You're your own boss. I I don't tell you what to do.
- 35:04You don't tell me what to do. It's always been like that
- 35:07because I know what pisses you off, you know, and you know
- 35:10what, But I, I truly think you know, people say how you been
- 35:13married so long. I'm like, dude, you know, I
- 35:16mean. It's a partnership.
- 35:18Yeah, you know, I think it is. It is.
- 35:22You're a bad ass. All right, So thank you for
- 35:27letting me interview. I hope you learned a little bit
- 35:31about Kim. So here we are.
- 35:35We're both 58 years old now. It's only like this until
- 35:39August. Then I turned 59, but we're both
- 35:43the exact same age and so we are going to start.
- 35:49So I, I want to talk about this real quick last week.
- 35:54It's been happening to me a lot lately where I'll be sleeping
- 35:57and I'm like in my mind towards the end of my sleep, I'll be
- 36:00calculating ages. I'm like I'm 5868, in 20 years
- 36:06I'll be dead. I'll be 78 and you tell me that
- 36:10I'm totally crazy. You are totally crazy.
- 36:12Yeah, that's like the news. That's news.
- 36:16Why do I think like that? I I do everything that revolves
- 36:20around happiness comedies you do when I watch movies every time
- 36:25when it be a happy movie. Yeah, you do.
- 36:28Good movie. Every movie has got to be about
- 36:30my whole. House is comedy.
- 36:33Yeah, you've helped me, because I'll tell you what I've laughed
- 36:35at. 58 is young. The the life expectancy is so
- 36:39much, yeah. Higher now Are we buying a
- 36:42motorhome? Yeah, let's.
- 36:44Do you want to buy a motorhome? Let's 'cause we're going to buy
- 36:47one. Yeah.
- 36:48All right then. Take them babies out.
- 36:50Take our kids out.
