- 0:00Speaker 1: This is the Ben and Ashley I Almost Famous podcast
- 0:03Speaker 1: with iHeartRadio.
- 0:06Speaker 2: Welcome back to Almost Famous the Ogs. We're here for
- 0:09Speaker 2: round two with our favorite Golden Bachelor bachelorettes, the three
- 0:16Speaker 2: I think, the three biggest stars from that whole franchise,
- 0:19Speaker 2: that whole series. We've got Kathy, Susan and Nancy with
- 0:23Speaker 2: us and we're going to get right into the nitty gritty.
- 0:25Speaker 2: So I can tell you, guys, this so twenty some
- 0:27Speaker 2: years ago when I did Trista's show, right and a
- 0:30Speaker 2: lot of those guys are still my very good friends.
- 0:33Speaker 3: Very good were getting rid of me. So this this
- 0:36Speaker 3: has legs. Guys. This this is something that you know
- 0:39Speaker 3: is tried and true.
- 0:41Speaker 2: You go through these experiences together and it doesn't mean
- 0:43Speaker 2: that every one of you are going to be best friends,
- 0:45Speaker 2: but when you do find that connection with your with
- 0:47Speaker 2: your with your your tribe, and you just keep it
- 0:49Speaker 2: going as long as you wanted to, you know, and
- 0:51Speaker 2: we've always wanted it to.
- 0:52Speaker 4: I also think that are because the Golden Bachelor, and
- 0:56Speaker 4: you know the premise, and most of us had a
- 1:00Speaker 4: Susan had a horrible divorce. Kathy and I both lost
- 1:04Speaker 4: our husbands from death. I mean yours by suicide, mind cancer.
- 1:09Speaker 5: But when you all.
- 1:11Speaker 6: Get together by boredom, so it wasn't bad.
- 1:16Speaker 5: I didn't say, Okay, horrible divorce.
- 1:19Speaker 4: Okay, sorry sorry friends, Okay, right, you're right, but you've.
- 1:23Speaker 6: Had loss, that's a loss.
- 1:25Speaker 4: But my point was that when you have all these
- 1:28Speaker 4: women who come together and we've all lost something.
- 1:34Speaker 3: Lost, humpo one another.
- 1:36Speaker 5: And I think we all.
- 1:39Speaker 4: Connected because of that, and we all were there for
- 1:43Speaker 4: each other and we were rooting each other on, like
- 1:46Speaker 4: hope you.
- 1:46Speaker 5: Like Gary, I don't. I don't, but you do.
- 1:49Speaker 3: You're like, no, you know, it's funny.
- 1:50Speaker 2: So I remember that from when we were doing trist
- 1:52Speaker 2: this season. You know, I was the elder Statesman, right,
- 1:55Speaker 2: so I was time. Everyone else was like late twenties.
- 2:00Speaker 3: I was your age.
- 2:03Speaker 2: Yes, So I was thirty two when I was on
- 2:05Speaker 2: the Bachelor atte thirty one going on. And I was
- 2:08Speaker 2: thirty two when I was a Bachelor. Yeah, and I
- 2:10Speaker 2: was the oldest Bachelor at that point.
- 2:12Speaker 3: That's for many years. Yeah.
- 2:15Speaker 2: No, you know what I remember say to those guys,
- 2:17Speaker 2: I was like, guys, it doesn't matter if we need
- 2:20Speaker 2: to get along, because we're going to be like dealing
- 2:22Speaker 2: with each other for the next few weeks.
- 2:24Speaker 3: I really did. Yeah, I got in trouble. We didn't.
- 2:26Speaker 6: We didn't have to say that.
- 2:27Speaker 3: Well, that's just say we were dealing.
- 2:28Speaker 2: We were dealing with people that like the goal at
- 2:30Speaker 2: that time, because it was the first season the Bachelorette,
- 2:33Speaker 2: the goal was they were like, we need the guys
- 2:35Speaker 2: to be you know, kind of at each other, you know,
- 2:37Speaker 2: the thing like they are now.
- 2:39Speaker 3: We weren't like that. We were like, we were good friends,
- 2:41Speaker 3: we got along great.
- 2:43Speaker 2: They come back from a dam. How was it genuinely
- 2:45Speaker 2: wanting it to be good?
- 2:46Speaker 7: How do you think the Golden Bachelors that are on?
- 2:50Speaker 3: Yeah, I think it's going to be I think it's
- 2:53Speaker 3: gonna be awesome. Have you checked them out? I have
- 2:55Speaker 3: some really good looking dudes there. Yeah. But I also
- 2:59Speaker 3: I will say, like one of my favorite.
- 3:00Speaker 2: Things about your all season of the show, and you
- 3:03Speaker 2: two know I said this a lot. I thought they
- 3:05Speaker 2: were going to do the kind of bull crap stuff
- 3:09Speaker 2: that they do. Right, Oh, here comes a couple, you know,
- 3:12Speaker 2: forty year olds that.
- 3:12Speaker 3: We're going to parade in here. Who are gonna you know?
- 3:14Speaker 3: And I was so glad they didn't do that.
- 3:16Speaker 2: It was age appropriate casting, and it was all these
- 3:19Speaker 2: successful and beautiful women and a really nice guy and Gary. Yeah,
- 3:24Speaker 2: I thought it was like it was really cool to
- 3:26Speaker 2: see that well done.
- 3:27Speaker 3: Yeah, it was.
- 3:29Speaker 5: But I will be honest, and I think the casting
- 3:31Speaker 5: was fast.
- 3:31Speaker 3: Casting was amazing that I agree.
- 3:35Speaker 6: Yes, kat, I would like to say this about that.
- 3:40Speaker 8: When I honestly, when I went on it or applied
- 3:44Speaker 8: for it, it said women sixty five and over, and
- 3:48Speaker 8: when I got there.
- 3:49Speaker 6: That's true.
- 3:50Speaker 8: Eleven of the twenty two women were beneath. They were
- 3:55Speaker 8: younger than sixty four. Okay, And so so for me,
- 4:00Speaker 8: you know, I'm strong, I'm healthy, you know I don't
- 4:04Speaker 8: I'm not the best looking, but I don't stop a clock.
- 4:07Speaker 6: I thought, okay, you know I can compete with this.
- 4:10Speaker 8: But when you have a sixty year old and you
- 4:14Speaker 8: know there were a fifty nine year old women and
- 4:17Speaker 8: there were women as old as seventy four, that's a
- 4:21Speaker 8: really wide age span to compete for one guy.
- 4:25Speaker 6: I mean, so that was a little I'm being honest.
- 4:28Speaker 6: For me, that was a little tough.
- 4:29Speaker 7: My biggest thing on the show. And we've all agreed
- 4:32Speaker 7: upon this as well. I wish especially for the senior ones,
- 4:36Speaker 7: because we're serious, not that the young ones aren't. You're
- 4:39Speaker 7: time with people, like everyone should have a one on one.
- 4:43Speaker 3: I agree that.
- 4:47Speaker 5: Nice, and I think everybody gave us a back.
- 4:52Speaker 8: Sure, but I don't think that is the formula. I
- 4:55Speaker 8: don't think that's the formula for the show. We've all
- 4:58Speaker 8: talked about that not but you have to air it.
- 5:02Speaker 8: You don't have to air every one on one day.
- 5:04Speaker 8: But it sure would be nice for everyone to have
- 5:06Speaker 8: that moment.
- 5:07Speaker 2: Especially when you are giving, Like when you're a twenty
- 5:10Speaker 2: two year old fresh out of college working at the
- 5:12Speaker 2: dairy Queen.
- 5:13Speaker 3: You know, it's you're just glad to.
- 5:15Speaker 2: Be doing something right, when you're when you're and you're
- 5:19Speaker 2: taking away.
- 5:20Speaker 8: We were up in our room at nights saying, you know,
- 5:22Speaker 8: we don't care about a one on one. We just
- 5:24Speaker 8: want a date with Gary. We don't want much. We
- 5:27Speaker 8: want a helicopter ride with Diamond. As I get the
- 5:32Speaker 8: diamon I wanted.
- 5:34Speaker 5: I wanted the diamond earrings.
- 5:35Speaker 2: So I remember saying, am I season of the Batcher.
- 5:38Speaker 2: I remember saying to the ladies. I was like, ladies,
- 5:39Speaker 2: you might be surprised by this, but whoever goes home tonight,
- 5:43Speaker 2: you're the lucky ones because if you come home with me,
- 5:46Speaker 2: we're not taking a helicopter into a volcano tonight.
- 5:50Speaker 3: Okay, living in Detroit, Michigan, I love.
- 5:55Speaker 7: Do you think that has something to do with that
- 5:57Speaker 7: falling for this?
- 5:59Speaker 2: Are you?
- 6:00Speaker 3: You're doing these amazing experiences? Right, it's like.
- 6:05Speaker 8: Doorphins going and then and then the show is over,
- 6:07Speaker 8: and it's like pick your damn socks up off the floor.
- 6:14Speaker 4: Well, and also like, which is you still and after
- 6:18Speaker 4: this show is over, I'm sure you know, are you
- 6:21Speaker 4: still going to color your hair like you did on
- 6:23Speaker 4: the show?
- 6:24Speaker 2: Are you.
- 6:27Speaker 5: You're still going to dress like you did.
- 6:29Speaker 6: On the show?
- 6:29Speaker 1: Right?
- 6:30Speaker 2: Yeah, not a lot of opportunities for evening gowns every
- 6:33Speaker 2: you know, every week those heels chairs.
- 6:40Speaker 3: Six inch Susan was rocking every week now.
- 6:47Speaker 8: But you know what it truly it was the most
- 6:51Speaker 8: amazing experience for me and I think for the three
- 6:56Speaker 8: of us, and and truly, I mean we always talk
- 6:59Speaker 8: about it, and I'm sure people get tired of hearing it,
- 7:02Speaker 8: but the experience of being on the show and the
- 7:06Speaker 8: friendships and just the day to day life for all
- 7:10Speaker 8: of us since then and the friendships that we've developed
- 7:15Speaker 8: was worth everything. We didn't find love with Gary, but
- 7:18Speaker 8: we found love with each other. And that sounds so hokey,
- 7:21Speaker 8: but it and.
- 7:23Speaker 7: It's about reaching people that have shared with all of
- 7:25Speaker 7: us their story and said, you guys gave me some.
- 7:29Speaker 5: Hosts and hope for other making me feel like maybe
- 7:32Speaker 5: it would be right.
- 7:34Speaker 3: Yeah.
- 7:34Speaker 5: And I also I remember being at the we did.
- 7:38Speaker 4: A talent show and I remember sitting there watching and.
- 7:46Speaker 5: We had all been together for a few days.
- 7:48Speaker 4: I don't know five days or ten days, whatever, but
- 7:52Speaker 4: we're sitting there and I remember the feeling of everybody.
- 7:57Speaker 4: Each of us got up on stage in front of
- 8:00Speaker 4: three hundred Bachelor Nation fans.
- 8:02Speaker 5: It was crazy, never happened, totally, the whole thing, and
- 8:08Speaker 5: I remember thinking, this is so cool. I felt like
- 8:12Speaker 5: I was watching my six year old at that time,
- 8:17Speaker 5: like in her first ballet performance. Like we were all
- 8:23Speaker 5: rooting for each other. It was like you had your
- 8:25Speaker 5: child up on the.
- 8:26Speaker 4: Stage, but we were all do it, do it, Like
- 8:30Speaker 4: we were so proud of each other for getting up
- 8:33Speaker 4: and being vulnerable and.
- 8:37Speaker 3: Totally and I'll say this, Cat, I disagree with you.
- 8:50Speaker 2: I don't think people are sick of hearing about it
- 8:51Speaker 2: at all, because I think people are excited to hear
- 8:54Speaker 2: about it, which is why you know, you guys are
- 8:57Speaker 2: doing what you do with your podcast, and why the
- 8:58Speaker 2: three of you together.
- 9:00Speaker 3: You can just tell the three of you is vibe.
- 9:01Speaker 2: People love hearing that because a lot of people don't
- 9:04Speaker 2: feel like they're even at a stage in their life
- 9:06Speaker 2: where they can make new friends.
- 9:07Speaker 3: Right. Well, you're right when I say sick.
- 9:11Speaker 8: I guess really what I was saying is we but
- 9:14Speaker 8: we both get a lot of comments on our Instagram
- 9:18Speaker 8: saying are you two still friends? Are you know? Are
- 9:21Speaker 8: you friends? Did you really make friends? And the and
- 9:24Speaker 8: the truth is the three of us are very good friends,
- 9:29Speaker 8: and we we she knows my friends now right right, children,
- 9:36Speaker 8: we know each other's children, We FaceTime with each other's children.
- 9:39Speaker 6: We are we are very good friends.
- 9:42Speaker 8: And so I guess what I'm saying is sometimes people
- 9:45Speaker 8: doubt that sure and it's and I'm like, don't doubt it,
- 9:50Speaker 8: celebrate it because at our age friendships are really important.
- 9:55Speaker 8: Not everybody can get the guy, not everybody.
- 9:58Speaker 7: People have a hard time time when they're older and
- 10:01Speaker 7: they don't have as many people around them making friends
- 10:06Speaker 7: had that gifted.
- 10:07Speaker 4: We had experience right.
- 10:11Speaker 7: Together without social media, with that walls, we had was
- 10:15Speaker 7: each other and you've got to get to.
- 10:17Speaker 3: Know and you going to make it or break it
- 10:18Speaker 3: in those moments. Did you miss your phone?
- 10:21Speaker 6: Not a second?
- 10:23Speaker 5: It was refreshing, fresh, was hard.
- 10:27Speaker 7: A couple of times I went to get the iPad,
- 10:30Speaker 7: it was, it was refreshing.
- 10:32Speaker 3: Oh god, I didn't miss I didn't.
- 10:34Speaker 6: I'm always have my phone in my hand. I don't
- 10:36Speaker 6: go anywhere. I didn't miss my phone.
- 10:38Speaker 8: And you know why, because that kept you busy because
- 10:41Speaker 8: I had people that I wanted to interact with. Sure,
- 10:44Speaker 8: And that's and honestly, that's a lesson for everyone. Is
- 10:48Speaker 8: if you put down your phone, if you put down
- 10:50Speaker 8: your social media. After you listen to this podcast, you
- 10:55Speaker 8: know there's so much to be gained from making friendships and.
- 10:59Speaker 4: Be present, Yeah, and not have the phone right, be present?
- 11:03Speaker 6: Yeah.
- 11:03Speaker 2: I try to do that with my It's funny that
- 11:05Speaker 2: you say that about friendships, but I try to do
- 11:07Speaker 2: it with my kids right now because I want them.
- 11:09Speaker 3: I want to be able to tell them.
- 11:10Speaker 6: Your children five and three phones?
- 11:12Speaker 2: No, no, but I do, and I'm on it a
- 11:15Speaker 2: lot for you to be when I'm around them.
- 11:18Speaker 3: My goal is and I'm not good at it. I'm
- 11:20Speaker 3: not gonna lie. I'm really bad at one of us.
- 11:22Speaker 2: But as an older dad, I'm fifty three, I have
- 11:24Speaker 2: a five year old and the three year old. Right,
- 11:25Speaker 2: most of my friends' kids are in college, so it's like,
- 11:28Speaker 2: I'm like, I want to make sure my kids learn
- 11:30Speaker 2: by my example. So I'm trying really hard to make
- 11:34Speaker 2: mental notes of doing it.
- 11:35Speaker 4: I remember hearing somebody Simon Senek said if I if
- 11:41Speaker 4: you come to a meeting and you're sitting at a meeting,
- 11:45Speaker 4: and he said, this is true for families, this is
- 11:47Speaker 4: true for couples, this is true for girlfriends, whoever, and
- 11:51Speaker 4: you have your phones and the person puts their phone
- 11:57Speaker 4: on the table, he said, do you feel like you're
- 12:02Speaker 4: the most important person in the room. They're waiting for
- 12:06Speaker 4: their phone, and if they put their phone, if they
- 12:09Speaker 4: turn it over, do you still feel like you're the
- 12:12Speaker 4: most important person? No, he said, the phone should not
- 12:16Speaker 4: be on the table. The phone should be turned off
- 12:21Speaker 4: while you're having a conversation, and you should never I
- 12:24Speaker 4: mean it's hard for us to do in this, you know,
- 12:27Speaker 4: now with everything going on but at the same time
- 12:31Speaker 4: it's really important.
- 12:32Speaker 3: No, I agree, you presently shut it off, but I
- 12:35Speaker 3: keep it in my pocket months.
- 12:38Speaker 7: I don't bring it to bed. I charge it in
- 12:41Speaker 7: the kitchen and go up to bed.
- 12:43Speaker 6: And now she takes a guy with her.
- 12:47Speaker 7: She in my room because I get the guy.
- 12:52Speaker 2: So this has become this is an annual thing for
- 12:54Speaker 2: us right now. And now we got Nancy. This is
- 12:59Speaker 2: so we got to.
- 12:59Speaker 3: Keep this guy. You got to give me advanced dates.
- 13:02Speaker 6: Yes, I like being here.
- 13:03Speaker 3: I do too, do you. I enjoy everybody?
- 13:06Speaker 2: Well, I love you guys. I love your friendship. I
- 13:09Speaker 2: love what you three came away from this.
- 13:11Speaker 3: I'm telling you.
- 13:12Speaker 2: I say this all the time about like they'll say,
- 13:13Speaker 2: what's the new advice for the new bachelor guy? And
- 13:16Speaker 2: I think you guys have heard me say this before,
- 13:17Speaker 2: but I'm always like, well, first of all, it's not
- 13:19Speaker 2: about you, right, and so it could be a monkey
- 13:21Speaker 2: hand and out flowers and the girls are going to cry.
- 13:24Speaker 3: Same for the same with the lis. The you know,
- 13:26Speaker 3: the general is reversed.
- 13:28Speaker 2: But the other part of it is make sure you
- 13:29Speaker 2: make make sure you make time to make friends because
- 13:32Speaker 2: you're going to have this experience the shared experience that
- 13:34Speaker 2: you're not going to have with all but twenty five
- 13:36Speaker 2: or thirty people for the rest of your life.
- 13:39Speaker 3: Right away from.
- 13:41Speaker 4: These people, enter and savor what you have and savor
- 13:46Speaker 4: what you get from it.
- 13:47Speaker 2: Yeah, and make the most of it, because you guys
- 13:49Speaker 2: are going to have some really fun moments.
- 13:51Speaker 6: Get Jones leftovers.
- 13:55Speaker 4: We're hopefully, hopefully we're going to have a chance at
- 13:59Speaker 4: the left overs because we're the well.
- 14:04Speaker 7: We're not.
- 14:05Speaker 6: I'm not left though.
- 14:06Speaker 2: I don't care what you call them. I want one said. See,
- 14:09Speaker 2: do you guys know do they can you?
- 14:10Speaker 3: Can you spill?
- 14:11Speaker 2: Do they possibly bring any of you out to provide counsel?
- 14:16Speaker 3: You bring me? I told them to let them know
- 14:20Speaker 3: I'm local in case they need just in case I'm
- 14:22Speaker 3: just I'm just a stone throw away. Right.
- 14:26Speaker 8: Let me tell you there is one guy that was
- 14:29Speaker 8: uh from Austin, Texas, where I'm from.
- 14:31Speaker 6: Oh yeah, he's a ranch, a rancher.
- 14:34Speaker 3: I'm here, Kathy.
- 14:36Speaker 6: You have to get the rancher from Austin publicly.
- 14:38Speaker 8: I don't know if Joan chose them, because I don't
- 14:40Speaker 8: know how it worked out, but I'm here to tell
- 14:43Speaker 8: you there are no ranches in the city limits of
- 14:49Speaker 8: He's already done.
- 14:51Speaker 6: Your homework either, David.
- 14:54Speaker 8: I think his name is David. David David. If you're
- 14:57Speaker 8: in Austin, I'd like to know where the hell your ranch.
- 15:00Speaker 3: You think.
- 15:02Speaker 8: It's it's it's ranches, but yeah, exactly.
- 15:06Speaker 6: Giddy up, let's find out where that ranches.
- 15:10Speaker 3: I love you, ladies, Thank you for Let's have a
- 15:13Speaker 3: great weekend. Okay, yes on the course.
