- 0:00Speaker 1: Jeff lagwalld time here on a Monday afternoon. Leggy joins

- 0:10Speaker 1: Jeff Legwald, we we were talking about the the career
- 0:14Speaker 1: in the travails of one Courtland Sutton. He's putting up
- 0:19Speaker 1: the best run of consistency over the course of his career.
- 0:26Speaker 1: What have you seen that him and bow Nicks are
- 0:28Speaker 1: getting discomfortable with each other?
- 0:30Speaker 2: Well, it's to me it's very clear that of all
- 0:35Speaker 2: the things bow Nicks thinks he has to worry about,
- 0:39Speaker 2: you know, don't do this, have this audible, be ready
- 0:43Speaker 2: with this check, you know, all of these million things
- 0:47Speaker 2: that Courtland Sutton is one thing he doesn't has to
- 0:50Speaker 2: worry about. And I think that comfort level is seen
- 0:55Speaker 2: in that, you know, Cortland has you know, he's top
- 1:01Speaker 2: fifteen in the league in tight window targets, which is
- 1:04Speaker 2: a nice metric for is your quarterback willing to throw
- 1:08Speaker 2: it in there to you a lot? And bo Nicks
- 1:13Speaker 2: is willing to throw it into Courtland something in tight spaces.
- 1:18Speaker 2: And I think it just shows that that comfort level
- 1:22Speaker 2: right now with that all he has to worry about
- 1:24Speaker 2: and avoiding mistakes and all the things you ask a
- 1:27Speaker 2: rookie quarterback, and he knows if he just gets the
- 1:30Speaker 2: ball by Courtland somewhere, it usually ends up good.
- 1:34Speaker 3: Yeah, it feels like a lot of quarterbacks have felt
- 1:36Speaker 3: that way playing with Courtland. All right, Legy, what does
- 1:39Speaker 3: this mean? I guess repeat question, are they gonna start
- 1:42Speaker 3: thinking about having to keep Courtland? What do they do?
- 1:44Speaker 3: Because again there was no extension over the summer. He
- 1:48Speaker 3: just moves some money around. Do you think he could
- 1:50Speaker 3: be the next Bronco they try to keep around?
- 1:53Speaker 2: Well, I mean again, you know their cat situation is
- 1:57Speaker 2: a little better next year, Andy, but it's still not,
- 2:00Speaker 2: you know, back to normal. And I think the two
- 2:03Speaker 2: big outstanding decisions for long time players here are Derrick
- 2:09Speaker 2: Bowles and Courtland Sutton. When the season's over now, they
- 2:12Speaker 2: did when they signed Certan, you know, after taking basically
- 2:17Speaker 2: the hard line against Courtland all off season. You know,
- 2:23Speaker 2: they took up pretty hard stands with Courtland. And after
- 2:27Speaker 2: doing that, when they signed their tan, they added a
- 2:30Speaker 2: couple of voidable years to Courtland's deal, which is a
- 2:33Speaker 2: really odd thing to do for a player you did
- 2:37Speaker 2: not renegotiate with significantly in the offseason, so it's kind
- 2:43Speaker 2: of a mixed message. So I am really intrigued to
- 2:46Speaker 2: see what they do with Courtland at the end of
- 2:49Speaker 2: the year because he is clearly their rookie quarterback who
- 2:55Speaker 2: they want over the long term to succeed. He's clearly
- 2:59Speaker 2: the favorite target of the rookie.
- 3:00Speaker 1: Quarterback along those lines, and again we're talking to Jeff
- 3:04Speaker 1: Legwald of ESPN. Leggy's appearance, as always, is brought to
- 3:08Speaker 1: you by the International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers IBW Local
- 3:12Speaker 1: sixty eight. You start with the job, you end with
- 3:14Speaker 1: a career. It's turning into a real nice career now, Leggy.
- 3:17Speaker 1: For Nick Benito, he is fourth in the NFL or
- 3:19Speaker 1: at least tied for third right now, with ten sacks
- 3:23Speaker 1: on the season, first double digit sack season for the
- 3:25Speaker 1: Broncos since Von Miller and Bradley Chubb in twenty eighteen.
- 3:29Speaker 1: Yesterday had some great plays against the run. Even in
- 3:32Speaker 1: addition to getting a sack in that game. He's in
- 3:36Speaker 1: year three. They don't have any fifty year option available
- 3:40Speaker 1: on him. Double digit sack guys, when they hit the
- 3:43Speaker 1: open market, they're pretty pricey. We know what Jonathan Cooper got,
- 3:48Speaker 1: but where does a market start on Nick Benito right now?
- 3:52Speaker 2: Starts pretty high because he's not only you know, even
- 3:56Speaker 2: the sacks aren't everything, crowd and your personnel guy. I
- 4:00Speaker 2: can't say much about Bonito because he he scores in
- 4:03Speaker 2: the other metrics. He's one of the pressure players, pressures
- 4:07Speaker 2: created first, pressures. You know, he's last year he was
- 4:12Speaker 2: among the best of the best in the league and
- 4:16Speaker 2: you know this, Seri's very high in that category to
- 4:19Speaker 2: go with the sac So he's got all the components
- 4:23Speaker 2: for a guy who would get paid. So you know, again,
- 4:26Speaker 2: the Broncos cap is a little better next year if
- 4:29Speaker 2: they wanted to do something with him, but it's not
- 4:34Speaker 2: still like back to completely normal, you know type of thing.
- 4:37Speaker 2: They're still carrying a lot of dead money next year.
- 4:41Speaker 2: So I think it would take a commitment on their
- 4:43Speaker 2: part to a pay him at the top of the market,
- 4:46Speaker 2: because that's what you got to do to get a
- 4:47Speaker 2: guy to sign early, and b be ready to make
- 4:52Speaker 2: those maneuvers in house to get that done. And you
- 4:58Speaker 2: know they're even limited there already tweaked or done that
- 5:03Speaker 2: type of thing with mcglinchy's deal and Ben Powers's deal
- 5:08Speaker 2: and Zach Allen's deal. They've they've already done all of
- 5:11Speaker 2: that stuff to get through this year. So you know,
- 5:14Speaker 2: making those maneuvers would be difficult. But if you're going
- 5:18Speaker 2: to get a guy to sign early like Cirkan did,
- 5:21Speaker 2: you're gonna have to pay him at what you think
- 5:24Speaker 2: the top of the market's going to be, and he
- 5:26Speaker 2: has to be willing to go along with it.
- 5:29Speaker 3: All right, Legy, So the last two win team is
- 5:32Speaker 3: off the schedule. Now, what what is going to be
- 5:34Speaker 3: the key to these next couple games? What is Indianapolis?
- 5:39Speaker 3: We know Cleveland brings a real good defense in both
- 5:42Speaker 3: the games are at home. What is going to be
- 5:45Speaker 3: the key as far as do they need to keep throwing?
- 5:48Speaker 3: Does the run game need to get back in here?
- 5:49Speaker 3: How do you see it as far as what they
- 5:51Speaker 3: need to do? Because if they get these two, they're
- 5:53Speaker 3: in real great position, I think to finally break the
- 5:55Speaker 3: playoff streak.
- 5:58Speaker 2: Yeah, and I think you know, nobody wants to hear
- 6:00Speaker 2: because you know, bo Nicks has has played better, and
- 6:05Speaker 2: you know they have slashes that at times on offense,
- 6:08Speaker 2: but they're you know, for the number crunchers out there,
- 6:12Speaker 2: as Pat Shermer he used to call them. Their offensive
- 6:16Speaker 2: efficiency is still a negative number, you know, and that
- 6:19Speaker 2: always puts you near the bottom of the league. And
- 6:21Speaker 2: that's got to change. They've got to do better more
- 6:25Speaker 2: often on their drives and put the ball in the
- 6:30Speaker 2: end zone a couple more times, you know. They they
- 6:33Speaker 2: can't keep putting their own defense in high stress times
- 6:38Speaker 2: in the games that matter the most, because that's the
- 6:40Speaker 2: bad formula. And you know, again they're one of the
- 6:44Speaker 2: league's worst teams and drives that end without a first
- 6:48Speaker 2: down and they they've got to get that squared away
- 6:52Speaker 2: like the.
- 6:53Speaker 1: Along those lines. And we were talking about this in
- 6:55Speaker 1: the first hour of the show yesterday. As much as
- 6:58Speaker 1: we celebrate the that Sean Payton has done over the
- 7:01Speaker 1: course of the season, and I do think he's had
- 7:03Speaker 1: a great year, and I do think he is a
- 7:05Speaker 1: worthy Coach of the Year candidate. I think he had
- 7:09Speaker 1: a great day yesterday, a tough especially his fourth quarter
- 7:13Speaker 1: game management was shaky at best. Uh Plus, to harp
- 7:19Speaker 1: on a point that you often make, he never wanted
- 7:22Speaker 1: to just go double tight end and try and run
- 7:24Speaker 1: directly into the blitz in that game yesterday. They threw
- 7:27Speaker 1: it forty two times to running it twenty two times.
- 7:31Speaker 1: Shawn even sort of admitted after the game, Yeah, kind
- 7:33Speaker 1: of got away from it more than he would have liked.
- 7:37Speaker 1: But ultimately the Broncos won that game on making fewer
- 7:41Speaker 1: mistakes than the Raiders. What did you think of the
- 7:44Speaker 1: way that Sewan operated that thing yesterday?
- 7:47Speaker 2: Well, you know, he's pretty adamant today about the you
- 7:50Speaker 2: know that three and out late in the game when
- 7:53Speaker 2: they ran about thirty seconds off the clock. You know,
- 7:56Speaker 2: that's the kind of stuff that gets you in trouble
- 8:00Speaker 2: against a much better team, which, you know, if you're
- 8:04Speaker 2: going to be in the playoffs or you want to
- 8:06Speaker 2: you want to hang around more than a week in
- 8:08Speaker 2: the playoffs, you can't have those kinds of drives late
- 8:11Speaker 2: in games and the timeout saying, I don't think that's
- 8:14Speaker 2: all on bon Nicks or anything, but to use all
- 8:18Speaker 2: of your time outs, you know, you don't have a
- 8:20Speaker 2: challenge at your disposal at that point. You know, if
- 8:23Speaker 2: something happens, uh, you know, they're just lucky and fortunate
- 8:28Speaker 2: that those things happened against the Raiders and not you know,
- 8:33Speaker 2: week fifteen or Week seventeen rather against the Bengals when
- 8:38Speaker 2: you might really need a game to stay in it.
- 8:42Speaker 2: And and but again he defended. He defended the three
- 8:48Speaker 2: and out, especially today, saying that you know, Quote's trying
- 8:51Speaker 2: to win the game, But I just think those are
- 8:54Speaker 2: the kinds of possessions that come back and get you
- 8:58Speaker 2: in those big games that really matter.
- 9:01Speaker 3: A bit of a surprising move, although I don't know,
- 9:03Speaker 3: maybe it isn't because they do have to make room
- 9:06Speaker 3: for two new guys to come off the ir and
- 9:08Speaker 3: Sanders and Reynolds here over the next two weeks. But
- 9:11Speaker 3: great Dulcice released it's done, It's over. I just saw
- 9:15Speaker 3: I don't know, somebody else tweeted it might have been
- 9:17Speaker 3: one of your colleagues just tweeted. They're expected to have
- 9:19Speaker 3: he's expected to have interest on the waiver wire. What
- 9:22Speaker 3: do you think ends up with Dulcage, Does he find
- 9:24Speaker 3: himself on a team before the end of the year,
- 9:26Speaker 3: What do you think happens there?
- 9:28Speaker 2: I think there's enough athleticism there and people will people
- 9:32Speaker 2: will remember their own draft grades on them, you know,
- 9:35Speaker 2: when the Broncos took them. So yeah, I always I
- 9:41Speaker 2: always think, and I've told people. I speak to GMS often,
- 9:45Speaker 2: and some of them say a day one or a
- 9:49Speaker 2: day two pick on the waiver wire as almost an
- 9:52Speaker 2: automatic claim unless you know some piece of information that
- 9:56Speaker 2: would prevent you from doing that. So it would shock
- 9:59Speaker 2: me if he isn't claimed by somebody when he does
- 10:04Speaker 2: hit the wire officially.
- 10:06Speaker 1: Jeff Lagweld ESPN Broncos victorious yesterday against the Raiders. They
- 10:12Speaker 1: handle their business. What do we know about Riley Moss
- 10:16Speaker 1: and what looked like a bad knee injury, although Sean
- 10:19Speaker 1: Payton downplayed it.
- 10:21Speaker 2: Yeah, I asked him after the game about Moss and
- 10:25Speaker 2: some of the things they had to adjust to when
- 10:27Speaker 2: he left the game, and in the answer, he said
- 10:29Speaker 2: that it was an MCL, which is a knee a
- 10:33Speaker 2: knee sprain sometimes that takes a month, depending on the
- 10:38Speaker 2: grade of the sprain. But he termed it quote not
- 10:42Speaker 2: too serious. But he has often said guys are quote
- 10:47Speaker 2: going to be okay, And all that really means is
- 10:51Speaker 2: he's not going to ir So we won't know yet,
- 10:55Speaker 2: you know what kind of timetable Moss is looking at
- 10:58Speaker 2: until we we see how practice goes this week. Now
- 11:02Speaker 2: they are benefited. You got a Monday game and then
- 11:05Speaker 2: the bye, So in theory he could get a good
- 11:10Speaker 2: rest before, you know, playing after the bye if it
- 11:14Speaker 2: really isn't too serious. But an MCL is a spraying,
- 11:18Speaker 2: and often it takes a month. So we'll see what
- 11:21Speaker 2: happens there.
- 11:22Speaker 3: All right, let's go to Zach Allen. What do you
- 11:24Speaker 3: think happens with him? I know we talked to you
- 11:27Speaker 3: a little bit about it Friday. You weren't too sure
- 11:29Speaker 3: what was going to happen. Ultimately he doesn't go. Do
- 11:31Speaker 3: you think he'll be available for Cleveland? Or if I'm noad,
- 11:34Speaker 3: I'm asking you to guess, But any idea what might
- 11:37Speaker 3: happen there?
- 11:39Speaker 2: I was gonna need to improve. I think you know
- 11:41Speaker 2: he was. He was limping pretty pretty pretty good at
- 11:46Speaker 2: the game yesterday in the stadium, and you know, I
- 11:49Speaker 2: saw him leaving, and when the team arrived, I saw him,
- 11:53Speaker 2: and it is a you know, it's obviously a painful
- 11:56Speaker 2: injury right now, and you can't do much of anything
- 12:01Speaker 2: without being paid free in your feet in some fashion.
- 12:05Speaker 2: So I think it's gonna bear watching. And frankly, you
- 12:09Speaker 2: could see the difference. It took a while in that
- 12:12Speaker 2: game for them to sort of figure out how they're
- 12:15Speaker 2: going to generate more consistent pressure and upfield movement without
- 12:21Speaker 2: Zach Allen in the lineup, because again, you're talking about
- 12:24Speaker 2: a guy who's played ninety percent of the defensive snaps
- 12:26Speaker 2: before yesterday. So, uh, I think that's another one. I
- 12:31Speaker 2: think it's a pain issue, a movement issue, and you
- 12:34Speaker 2: know you're not gonna be able to predict that until
- 12:36Speaker 2: he's back on the practice field in some fashion to
- 12:39Speaker 2: see how he's.
- 12:40Speaker 1: Moving around folks, believe it or not, We will talk
- 12:43Speaker 1: to Jeff Leagwell two more times before the Broncos play again,
- 12:46Speaker 1: because with the Monday nighter coming up against the Browns.
- 12:51Speaker 3: I want to rethink your math there.
- 12:54Speaker 1: Yeah, he'll do the show this week, this week.
- 12:57Speaker 3: At that, look at that, you're not you're not promising
- 13:01Speaker 3: that it's going to be Friday. Well, maybe I don't
- 13:02Speaker 3: agree with a Wednesday appearance. What do you think of that?
- 13:04Speaker 1: It's uh, I need I need three days between, Leggy.
- 13:10Speaker 2: Most people would add a lot more days to.
- 13:13Speaker 1: That, Frankly, Yeah, no, it's it's it's you. You got
- 13:16Speaker 1: a lot more work to do here, my friend. Uh, Leggy,
- 13:19Speaker 1: good stuff is always, buddy. We appreciate it, thank you,
- 13:22Speaker 1: thank
- 13:22Speaker 2: You, folas we'll see you
