Transcript
- 0:02Speaker 1: Here's your host, Alex Garrett.
- 0:06Speaker 2: All right, well lou Terminello, it's back to Terminello's take,
- 0:10Speaker 2: and uh, first of all, tonight, it's gonna be very
- 0:12Speaker 2: interesting first game as Mets Radio eight eighty. Aren't you
- 0:16Speaker 2: interested to know how, uh, how he's gonna address that?
- 0:19Speaker 2: Will they address that?
- 0:20Speaker 3: Change it all? Or no?
- 0:23Speaker 1: I don't. I doubt it, And Alex, thank you for
- 0:25Speaker 1: having me back. But I doubt it. I mean I
- 0:28Speaker 1: already was listening since the announcement was made when they
- 0:35Speaker 1: were talking about the switchover. They when they went to
- 0:39Speaker 1: commercial breaks, how we did not identify it as a
- 0:43Speaker 1: w CBS radio network for the last ten days, it's
- 0:47Speaker 1: it's the Odyssey Radio Mets network. So I don't. I
- 0:52Speaker 1: don't think he'll change it tonight with the new call letters,
- 0:56Speaker 1: which I think are our.
- 0:57Speaker 3: W H Yeah.
- 1:01Speaker 2: Yeah, So you know it's it's been a burden on
- 1:05Speaker 2: my heart that this has gone to the dust.
- 1:08Speaker 4: Well, I agree, it was a w CBS Adah listener,
- 1:15Speaker 4: I agree, it's just another another tradition that has been.
- 1:20Speaker 2: But guess what, whenever you post a show with me,
- 1:22Speaker 2: you get on Audissey anyway, So it kind of you know,
- 1:25Speaker 2: we can carry the torch if you will in that regard.
- 1:27Speaker 2: So I'm excited that we are on Audysey together through
- 1:30Speaker 2: these terminal takes.
- 1:31Speaker 3: I'm not sure if you were aware of that or not.
- 1:36Speaker 1: I guess yeah, I guess I was. I was aware
- 1:38Speaker 1: of that. But now that you've brought my attention to it, yeah,
- 1:42Speaker 1: I'm thinking about it again. So that's good.
- 1:46Speaker 3: Like that. It is a good thing. It is a
- 1:47Speaker 3: good thing, all right.
- 1:48Speaker 2: The other thing about tonight, I mean, yeah, Judge is
- 1:51Speaker 2: a thousand hits. That's great, and the Metsican Arizona for
- 1:56Speaker 2: a big series. People probably don't realize how big of
- 1:58Speaker 2: a deal this is because you know, on his hot again.
- 2:01Speaker 2: But lou in Somerset tonight an Italian Heritage Night, Anthony
- 2:07Speaker 2: Rizzo's making and making a rehab start. I mean, what
- 2:10Speaker 2: a perfect timing for Anthony.
- 2:13Speaker 1: You told Italian Heritage nine at Somerset.
- 2:16Speaker 2: Yeah, and he's gonna be there. And you've told me
- 2:18Speaker 2: time and time again. He has a bakery or something
- 2:21Speaker 2: like that down in New Jersey. Tell us more about that.
- 2:24Speaker 1: Well, uh, Lynnar's Bakery and len Nurse, New Jersey. Anthony
- 2:29Speaker 1: Rizzo is related to the owners of Lynnhurst Bakery and
- 2:34Speaker 1: they have great obviously Italian pastries, but they also have
- 2:38Speaker 1: the best Italian ice uh anywhere. And Anthony Rizzo has
- 2:46Speaker 1: a has a an Italian ice named after him. It's
- 2:51Speaker 1: the ones that is half yumium, which is which is vanilla,
- 2:55Speaker 1: half yum yum and half chocolate Italian eyes. It's called
- 2:58Speaker 1: the Anthony Rizzo. So if you go there and asked
- 3:00Speaker 1: for an Antony Rizzo, you'll get a You'll get half
- 3:03Speaker 1: a chocolate, half a yum yum, and it's delicious.
- 3:07Speaker 2: I think they got to go do that before the
- 3:09Speaker 2: game time. They're going out to summer set. But how
- 3:11Speaker 2: funny is that Anthony Rizzo coming back to do some rehab,
- 3:14Speaker 2: starts playing in Portland with the Patriots, comes back in
- 3:17Speaker 2: the first game home is Italian heritage.
- 3:20Speaker 3: Isn't baseball in life funny like that?
- 3:24Speaker 1: I mean, yeah, it really is. It really is. How
- 3:28Speaker 1: sometimes these things sync up and the Yankees need them.
- 3:32Speaker 1: The Yankees need them to to get his hitting eye back,
- 3:36Speaker 1: you know, as they approach the playoffs, because Alex, I
- 3:39Speaker 1: think the playoff teams are set in each league. We
- 3:42Speaker 1: talked about that a couple of weeks ago. I think
- 3:44Speaker 1: the only thing that unless somebody just takes a huge
- 3:48Speaker 1: nose dive, I think really the only thing that will
- 3:52Speaker 1: be playing for the rest of the years our playoff seedings.
- 3:56Speaker 1: But I mean, I think in the Al Theanks, Baltimore, Houston.
- 4:03Speaker 1: I know, Seattle's only three and a half games out
- 4:05Speaker 1: and Houston still banged up, but I think they'll get there.
- 4:08Speaker 1: And Kansas City, Cleveland, Minnesota in the Central. It just
- 4:14Speaker 1: depends on where they're gonna end up. That was a
- 4:16Speaker 1: big double head to win by Kansas City.
- 4:19Speaker 2: Yeah, tell, I'll talk about that because I actually feel
- 4:22Speaker 2: like the Yankees Orioles, it seemed to be hammering. It's
- 4:27Speaker 2: about now. The Yanks of a two game lead, and
- 4:29Speaker 2: they may not look back. I don't want to drink
- 4:31Speaker 2: to anything, but they look storming on the Ools right now,
- 4:34Speaker 2: which is we didn't know if that was gonna be
- 4:35Speaker 2: possible in July.
- 4:36Speaker 3: But here we are two games up.
- 4:38Speaker 2: The Yanks are two games up against the Ools, but
- 4:41Speaker 2: the Central one game out for Kansas City. And yes,
- 4:45Speaker 2: Bobby Wood Junior is leading the charge. But the collapse
- 4:48Speaker 2: of the Guardians, so to speak. Are they injured?
- 4:51Speaker 3: What is it? They were up there for a while.
- 4:54Speaker 1: Yeah, but the league was never insurmountable. They're good, they're
- 4:59Speaker 1: not great. You know, like a lot of teams in
- 5:01Speaker 1: Major League Baseball nowadays, they go they go through scoring droughts.
- 5:06Speaker 1: The thing with Kansas City, it's remarkable. They were fifty
- 5:09Speaker 1: games under five hundred last year, fifty six and one
- 5:11Speaker 1: hundred and six. And they are led by baseball's next superstar,
- 5:16Speaker 1: Bobby Wood Junior. I mean, the guy's batt in three
- 5:18Speaker 1: forty seven, twenty seven home runs, ninety six RBIs of
- 5:22Speaker 1: four hundred on base percentage. He already has one hundred
- 5:25Speaker 1: and eighty two hits, one hundred eighty two hits. That's remarkable,
- 5:29Speaker 1: and he's added twenty seven stolen bases, and he plays
- 5:33Speaker 1: a brilliant shortstop. So if Aaron Judge wasn't having one
- 5:36Speaker 1: of these historic years, Bobby Wood Junior would be their
- 5:40Speaker 1: front runner for MVP. And he is as valuable a
- 5:44Speaker 1: player as there is in the American League, along with Judge.
- 5:47Speaker 1: But Judge is gonna win the MVP by by a
- 5:50Speaker 1: good margin and deservingly. So you know, the Royals also
- 5:54Speaker 1: have a guy who has been I wouldn't say I
- 5:58Speaker 1: don't want to say, mister Royal, he was, He's close
- 6:01Speaker 1: to it and catcher. You know, Salvatore Perez. You know,
- 6:04Speaker 1: he's been with them since they went to the World
- 6:05Speaker 1: Series back to back, winning it in fifteen, having a
- 6:09Speaker 1: great year twenty five home runs, ninety four RBIs two
- 6:12Speaker 1: eighty two batting average. I think he's a career that
- 6:17Speaker 1: is vastly underrated. I mean, this guy is a star,
- 6:21Speaker 1: and this guy is more than a borderline Hall of
- 6:23Speaker 1: Fame candidate. I mean he's the heart and soul, the
- 6:26Speaker 1: guts of the worlds. Yes, along with with Bobby Wood Junior,
- 6:30Speaker 1: but Salvatore Perez is the leader of that team and
- 6:34Speaker 1: all these young guys could look at.
- 6:35Speaker 2: Well he has he wont you won the World Series?
- 6:38Speaker 2: I mean he's been on both sides of that coin.
- 6:40Speaker 2: He won the World Series a year after losing. I mean,
- 6:43Speaker 2: the guy has led the team through so much and
- 6:46Speaker 2: I'm sure now has he announced his retirement?
- 6:49Speaker 3: Have we heard that yet?
- 6:50Speaker 1: I have I have not heard that yet. I mean,
- 6:52Speaker 1: I mean I would doubt it, having the year that
- 6:54Speaker 1: he's having. This year, he's going to drive in over
- 6:57Speaker 1: one hundred runs. The Royals are ahead of schedule. I
- 7:03Speaker 1: don't think. I think they thought if they went from
- 7:06Speaker 1: fifty six wins to seventy one, they would have been happy.
- 7:09Speaker 1: But they're already at seventy four. And you know they
- 7:12Speaker 1: with Cole Reagan's and Seth Lugo has done a great job.
- 7:16Speaker 1: That was a great three hundred free agent pickup for
- 7:19Speaker 1: the Royals. So they're ahead of schedule, just like the
- 7:23Speaker 1: Orioles were two years ago and or last year when
- 7:30Speaker 1: they won one hundred and one games. So it you know,
- 7:33Speaker 1: it's gonna be interesting, an interesting September. But I just
- 7:36Speaker 1: think it's receding. I think in both leagues we have
- 7:39Speaker 1: that we have the playoff teams. Yeah, I know the
- 7:41Speaker 1: Mets are only three out, but they have a very
- 7:44Speaker 1: tough schedule. They got a couple of series with the Phillies.
- 7:46Speaker 1: They got to they have to play even though the
- 7:49Speaker 1: Red Sox are heading south and have no chance for
- 7:52Speaker 1: the playoffs, they do have to play a Red Sox
- 7:54Speaker 1: team and you know that won't be easy. They got
- 8:00Speaker 1: a couple of series with the Braves. They have to
- 8:03Speaker 1: finish up at Milwaukee. But Milwaukee, by that time they're
- 8:06Speaker 1: up by ten games, so they should have everything locked up.
- 8:09Speaker 1: I think. I think the Mets, I'm gonna, you know,
- 8:12Speaker 1: are done. They have a big series tonight. Yeah, they
- 8:15Speaker 1: got to win two out of three. They almost they
- 8:18Speaker 1: almost did something fantastic by beating the Padres three out
- 8:23Speaker 1: of four and unfortunately they they couldn't hold onto that
- 8:26Speaker 1: to nothing eight eighth inning lead. But really the Mets
- 8:30Speaker 1: problem of the last month, and they've been okay. I mean,
- 8:34Speaker 1: I mean, I'm not they haven't collapsed or anything. But
- 8:37Speaker 1: the guys that were hitting at a great rate when
- 8:40Speaker 1: they were on that great push, Lindor still hitting. But
- 8:45Speaker 1: Martinez has come back to earth. He has not been
- 8:48Speaker 1: the hit or he was during that streak. Alvarez hasn't.
- 8:52Speaker 1: Nimo has had a terrible second half of the year's
- 8:57Speaker 1: post All Star break after you know, having a great
- 9:01Speaker 1: first hif year looked like he was going to drive
- 9:03Speaker 1: in over one hundred rounds and so that that's really
- 9:07Speaker 1: set them back. But that's where they are. I mean,
- 9:10Speaker 1: they're still in it. They're three out behind Atlanta. I
- 9:15Speaker 1: just don't I just think when the season ends, we
- 9:18Speaker 1: have the we have the all the playoff teams I
- 9:21Speaker 1: think are set. Like I said, we just have to
- 9:23Speaker 1: look at seating. That's what they'll be playing for in September.
- 9:31Speaker 3: So yeah, and the Philly You know. The other thing
- 9:34Speaker 3: is about these shaky teams. I mean, I noted to
- 9:36Speaker 3: you this morning. Man, nobody's over eighty wins.
- 9:39Speaker 2: Yet everybody's sort of in that seventy seven and seventy eight,
- 9:42Speaker 2: you know, seventy seven to seventy nine win plateau. It's
- 9:45Speaker 2: very strange because you would think in the in August
- 9:48Speaker 2: all these teams would be up. But those shakys kind
- 9:51Speaker 2: of stretches here are gonna show themselves in the postseason.
- 9:55Speaker 3: It's one way forming another, right.
- 9:58Speaker 1: No, you're correct, And just about every team that is
- 10:01Speaker 1: in the player position has had has had a down stretch.
- 10:06Speaker 1: The Yankees, the Phillies, the Orioles are going through it now.
- 10:10Speaker 1: The Indians, Minnesota, Cleveland loss still like nine out of ten,
- 10:16Speaker 1: you know, a couple of weeks ago. So everybody's gone
- 10:19Speaker 1: through Atlanta, has it. Remember the Atlanta was ten games
- 10:22Speaker 1: up on the Mets, and the Mets actually passed them
- 10:24Speaker 1: for a while. So you know, Seattle, and Seattle has
- 10:29Speaker 1: the best starting pitching in the major leagues, but they
- 10:32Speaker 1: don't score enough and that's why they're three and a
- 10:36Speaker 1: half games out, and they blew that ten game lead
- 10:38Speaker 1: that they had over the Astros and the astrog you
- 10:41Speaker 1: guy get him credit. Yes, they have the experience, they've
- 10:43Speaker 1: gone through the championship challenges, but they've had so many
- 10:47Speaker 1: injuries to their pitching staff, and Kyle Tucker is still out.
- 10:51Speaker 1: They don't know if he's gonna come back before the
- 10:53Speaker 1: end of the regular season. He's a terrific player. Again,
- 10:56Speaker 1: he's underrated in my opinion. But if Houston's healthy, they'll
- 11:01Speaker 1: be They'll be a problem for whoever plays them in
- 11:05Speaker 1: the American League. But as we said a couple of
- 11:07Speaker 1: weeks ago, right now, the race for the World Series
- 11:12Speaker 1: is wide open.
- 11:15Speaker 2: And I'm so focused on the three game set, Like,
- 11:17Speaker 2: I just think the Yankees cannot afford to be in
- 11:20Speaker 2: a three game set. I don't know that's gonna work
- 11:21Speaker 2: in a wild card situation, because yes, they can win,
- 11:26Speaker 2: you know, they can probably win in an extended you know,
- 11:29Speaker 2: three out of five or four out of seven, but
- 11:31Speaker 2: they in a three game set against say the Ashles
- 11:34Speaker 2: or whoever.
- 11:35Speaker 3: I'm a little concerned about that.
- 11:36Speaker 2: Am I wrong to be concerned about the Yankees specifically,
- 11:39Speaker 2: and even the Phillies in the three game set.
- 11:41Speaker 3: That's a that's a wild card for sure.
- 11:43Speaker 1: Well you're playing Russian roulette, as they say, it's better
- 11:47Speaker 1: than a you know, one game playoff like they had
- 11:51Speaker 1: with the wild card a couple of years ago. But yes,
- 11:53Speaker 1: you should try to win the division, try to avoid
- 11:55Speaker 1: the two out of three, get those four days off,
- 11:58Speaker 1: get healthy, you know, have those little knicks that that
- 12:02Speaker 1: you might have from the end of the regular season,
- 12:06Speaker 1: all cleaned up and be ready to go. But you know,
- 12:10Speaker 1: the Yankees are going to go as far as the
- 12:13Speaker 1: complimentary hitting takes them in the postseason. Obviously, Aaron Judge
- 12:18Speaker 1: is just having another historic season. He's going to be
- 12:23Speaker 1: around sixty home runs one way or the other. I mean,
- 12:28Speaker 1: the guy has had a tremendous year, which is amazing
- 12:34Speaker 1: because of the year he had two years ago. I
- 12:36Speaker 1: don't know if there's ever been without steroid usage. And
- 12:41Speaker 1: can you imagine if Aaron Judge took steroids, what would
- 12:43Speaker 1: he hit ninety home runs?
- 12:45Speaker 2: That's very true because you think if he was on something,
- 12:49Speaker 2: he hit more than fifty two fifty one nine now,
- 12:52Speaker 2: but you make a very good point and actually, speaking
- 12:55Speaker 2: of steroids, the fact that Barry Bonds did do steroids
- 12:59Speaker 2: did not bother the Pirate, the Pirates organization.
- 13:01Speaker 3: He's in the Hall of Fame with the Pirates and
- 13:04Speaker 3: the Giants, and you know, to me, that's okay. Maybe
- 13:09Speaker 3: that's you, but to me it's fine.
- 13:11Speaker 2: But what are your thoughts on Barry Bones going in
- 13:13Speaker 2: to the Pirates Hall of Fame where actually it was
- 13:14Speaker 2: a skinny kind of stick back in those years.
- 13:18Speaker 1: The thing is, when he was with the Pirates, he
- 13:20Speaker 1: certainly wasn't on steroids at that point. He started his
- 13:24Speaker 1: steroid usage when he signed with the Giants. He didn't
- 13:28Speaker 1: need to do that. And if he didn't do that,
- 13:31Speaker 1: if he didn't take steroids, he would be in the
- 13:33Speaker 1: Baseball Hall of Fame right now. He's one of the
- 13:35Speaker 1: best players that I ever saw. I mean, he's a
- 13:38Speaker 1: seven time MVP. Yes, some of those m vps were
- 13:42Speaker 1: with steroids somewhere without. But I really have no problem
- 13:47Speaker 1: I guess the Pirates putting him in, especially since he
- 13:50Speaker 1: wasn't on the stuff when he was with Pittsburgh for
- 13:55Speaker 1: the most part. So but you, but again getting back
- 13:58Speaker 1: to mister Judge, I mean, you got just the guy
- 14:01Speaker 1: leads the ale and home runs RBIs, on base percentage,
- 14:05Speaker 1: slugging ops ops plus. He leads the American League intentional
- 14:12Speaker 1: based on balls. Ironically, he only has sixteen intentional bases
- 14:16Speaker 1: on balls, so you think he would have more. And
- 14:21Speaker 1: you know, you think about you think about his career.
- 14:25Speaker 1: He won a Rookie the Year in twenty seventeen, MVP
- 14:29Speaker 1: twenty twenty two, he saw in the huge deal. He
- 14:31Speaker 1: became captain of the Yankees. He won home run Derby
- 14:37Speaker 1: in college, and I, as you know, Alex, I think
- 14:40Speaker 1: these home run Derbys are a joke. But just a
- 14:42Speaker 1: little tidbit here. He won the college home run Derby
- 14:45Speaker 1: in twenty twelve, and he won the Major League Home
- 14:48Speaker 1: Run Derby in twenty seventeen as a rookie, So you.
- 14:52Speaker 3: Know it was hitting go.
- 14:53Speaker 2: You know who was hitting instructor was when he started
- 14:55Speaker 2: that old thing was Richard Skank was actually his hitting
- 14:58Speaker 2: instructor during the twenty seven teen derby.
- 15:00Speaker 3: How about that?
- 15:01Speaker 1: Yep? No, And like I said to anybody who hasn't
- 15:04Speaker 1: heard that interview that you did with him, that's a
- 15:09Speaker 1: musclessen on the art of hit it.
- 15:11Speaker 2: But you know the most important part to me about
- 15:13Speaker 2: Aaron Judge is the hell runs are great, but if
- 15:15Speaker 2: he can get his doubles and singles, that's even more important.
- 15:19Speaker 2: That shows he's got a rhythm. I keep saying the
- 15:21Speaker 2: last two weeks of twenty twenty two, when he did
- 15:24Speaker 2: not even get a hit of a single or a double,
- 15:26Speaker 2: and he was pressing so much. Finally, I think he
- 15:29Speaker 2: just relaxed his body and was able to just do
- 15:31Speaker 2: those hits. When he can hit doubles and singles, that's
- 15:34Speaker 2: how he knows he's on not just the homers. When
- 15:36Speaker 2: he can to go those other base hits, that's a
- 15:39Speaker 2: very important sign, especially for Aaron Judge.
- 15:43Speaker 1: Well, the other thing about Judge, obviously he is clearly
- 15:48Speaker 1: the best player in baseball. And you know the Yankees
- 15:52Speaker 1: were a lot of people question the Yankees when they
- 15:55Speaker 1: moved into center field, and really, since day one in
- 15:58Speaker 1: center field, he's done tremendous job. And I'm not talking
- 16:02Speaker 1: about the two great catches and the one throw that
- 16:04Speaker 1: he made last night in Washington. Since he's played center
- 16:10Speaker 1: field on a consistent basis, he's terrific. I mean, he's
- 16:15Speaker 1: no problem to management, and he's one of these perfect
- 16:23Speaker 1: professional players. He's totally professional.
- 16:26Speaker 2: And you know what, he has Skipper's back. He actually
- 16:28Speaker 2: has Boon's back a lot more than people realize, and
- 16:31Speaker 2: that holds weight. When Aaron Judge has that opinion of
- 16:35Speaker 2: a manager, then that means you know the manager's doing
- 16:38Speaker 2: something right. And I will say, Aaron Boone has his
- 16:40Speaker 2: team on a trajectory of one hundred wins. Again, they
- 16:43Speaker 2: haven't gotten there in a little bit. But I I
- 16:47Speaker 2: know people get pissed at him. I can't be because
- 16:50Speaker 2: I think he's doing the best he can with what
- 16:51Speaker 2: he's got right now.
- 16:53Speaker 1: Well, I mean, he has two of the top five
- 16:55Speaker 1: players in baseball in Aaron Judge and one so and
- 17:00Speaker 1: just think, Aaron Judge, the Yankees drafting them with a
- 17:03Speaker 1: compensation pick for losing Nick Swisher in free agency. That
- 17:09Speaker 1: was a pretty good trade for the Yankees, Aaron Judge
- 17:11Speaker 1: for Nick Swisher.
- 17:13Speaker 3: That was fun to see him.
- 17:15Speaker 2: You know, a lot of those guys were back for
- 17:16Speaker 2: the weekend at Old Timers and they had a lot
- 17:19Speaker 2: of fun.
- 17:19Speaker 3: That was fun.
- 17:19Speaker 2: But yeah, Aaron Judge that that trade certainly paid off. Now, Lou,
- 17:25Speaker 2: I know you want to talk about some other things. Obviously,
- 17:27Speaker 2: we got the US Open coming on as well, but
- 17:30Speaker 2: we'll get that as the week's progress. With baseball, though,
- 17:34Speaker 2: I want to stick with this because the Yankees did
- 17:37Speaker 2: something very important last night. So you had Sodo, Stanton
- 17:41Speaker 2: and Judge basically go cold for a game, and normally
- 17:45Speaker 2: when that happens, nobody else producers. But finally you have
- 17:49Speaker 2: a bottom of the order that actually came through. I'm
- 17:51Speaker 2: sure you saw some of that, and I think that
- 17:53Speaker 2: that's gonna be vital too. You cannot rely on those
- 17:55Speaker 2: three every night, so to see the bottom of the
- 17:58Speaker 2: order coming through when the top of the order wasn't.
- 18:01Speaker 2: Although Labor that greatly off, Homer, the point is you
- 18:05Speaker 2: need all nine guys, not just three or two of
- 18:07Speaker 2: them every game. And I think that was a well
- 18:09Speaker 2: rounded win last night. And and can we expect more
- 18:12Speaker 2: of those?
- 18:12Speaker 3: Do you think? Down the road here?
- 18:14Speaker 2: As you know, Austin Weill's coming to his own with
- 18:16Speaker 2: the bad and Bolpi another Italian, right, he's been doing
- 18:20Speaker 2: really well again and of course last time with that
- 18:22Speaker 2: big double.
- 18:23Speaker 3: You need those guys to come through.
- 18:24Speaker 1: Though.
- 18:24Speaker 3: You can't rely on Judge, stand and Soto every night.
- 18:27Speaker 1: You cannot, and that's going to be that. That's going
- 18:31Speaker 1: to be the pressure that the Yankee batting order will
- 18:34Speaker 1: phase when they when they get to the playoffs. Let's
- 18:39Speaker 1: face it, these teams aren't going to get beat most
- 18:42Speaker 1: of the time unless they were if the situation is
- 18:45Speaker 1: where they're they're they're just caught in a corner and
- 18:50Speaker 1: can't get out of you know, and this is this
- 18:53Speaker 1: is a big postseason for Aaron Judge. I mean his
- 18:55Speaker 1: lifetime banning average postseason is two eleven. Yes, he has
- 18:58Speaker 1: thirty thirteen home run but with those thirteen home runs,
- 19:01Speaker 1: he only has twenty five RBIs. He has a high
- 19:04Speaker 1: strikeout rate in postseason. So for all his amazing greatness,
- 19:08Speaker 1: and it is amazing, there's gonna be and he knows
- 19:12Speaker 1: these Alex don't think. These guys don't know it, So
- 19:15Speaker 1: they don't they don't have to hear it from a
- 19:17Speaker 1: reporter or watch Baseball Tonight or Quick Pitch on MLB Network.
- 19:23Speaker 1: These guys know it. So how they handle that pressure
- 19:28Speaker 1: for I don't want to say past failues, but where
- 19:31Speaker 1: they might have they think they've left their team down.
- 19:33Speaker 1: That's real pressure. Whether it's stanton who they're gonna look at,
- 19:40Speaker 1: but you know, like I said, Judge camp back to eleven.
- 19:45Speaker 2: So you know only here before we no sorry, let
- 19:52Speaker 2: you finish.
- 19:54Speaker 1: No. But last night a couple of those little things
- 19:57Speaker 1: came came through for the Yankees. Mayo had two sacrifice flies.
- 20:02Speaker 1: Something as simple as that, just making contact when you
- 20:05Speaker 1: have a chance to score a run on the out
- 20:08Speaker 1: could be the difference between winning and losing and helps
- 20:11Speaker 1: alleviate the pressure of putting the burden on Judge Soto.
- 20:16Speaker 3: Stand yeah, and it was great to see Soto get
- 20:20Speaker 3: to think.
- 20:21Speaker 2: And by the way, DJ, a healthy DJ, or even
- 20:23Speaker 2: a guy hitting above one ninety five. The Mendoza line
- 20:26Speaker 2: DJ would be nice right now because he's been having
- 20:29Speaker 2: his moments then he gets cold. I'd love to see
- 20:32Speaker 2: him to go with the Mendoz line, and that should
- 20:33Speaker 2: be a goal for him in this moment before we
- 20:37Speaker 2: hit September.
- 20:37Speaker 3: All right, Lou I told you this all air. I'm
- 20:40Speaker 3: gonna say it here. While we didn't report this earlier,
- 20:44Speaker 3: it could still.
- 20:44Speaker 2: Be breaking news because, as we both know, the digital space,
- 20:48Speaker 2: people just find out things like they found out from
- 20:50Speaker 2: WCBS was closing for my TikTok. I mean, of all
- 20:53Speaker 2: the things, right, Anyway, the point is in the digital space,
- 20:57Speaker 2: this could be breaking news you're delivering because might not
- 21:00Speaker 2: have heard what Yukon just did before the you know,
- 21:03Speaker 2: the college sports world gets Underwigham what happened with yukat.
- 21:08Speaker 1: Well, I was talking to somebody last week very close
- 21:14Speaker 1: to the Yukon Big Twelve situation, and Yukon has agreed
- 21:20Speaker 1: to come to the Big Twelve. They agreed with the
- 21:23Speaker 1: Big Twelve management team, Commissioner at your Mark, and the
- 21:28Speaker 1: Big Twelve Conference administration to join the Big Twelve. In
- 21:36Speaker 1: all sports, there's a twenty seven month out, so in
- 21:43Speaker 1: the Big East you have to give the Big East
- 21:45Speaker 1: twenty seven months notice if you're leaving the conference. So
- 21:49Speaker 1: if that holds up and yu Khan is voted in
- 21:54Speaker 1: by the presidents of the Big Twelve, it would be
- 21:58Speaker 1: twenty the twenty six twenty seventh season, so they'll have
- 22:02Speaker 1: two more years in the Big East in all sports.
- 22:04Speaker 1: As you know, they're independent and football and the Big
- 22:09Speaker 1: Twelve is very the presidents are very skeptical about the
- 22:15Speaker 1: future of the Yukon football program. So what Yukon has proposed,
- 22:22Speaker 1: we won't join until twenty thirty one. In football, giving
- 22:27Speaker 1: them six.
- 22:29Speaker 2: Or seven years, basically their own probationary period, right probably, Well.
- 22:33Speaker 1: Again, they what the Big Twelve presidents are afraid that
- 22:37Speaker 1: they're not going to be competitive if they join right away,
- 22:41Speaker 1: and they're not going to get the media money right away.
- 22:43Speaker 1: Neither is basketball is the basketball program. But what they're
- 22:50Speaker 1: trying to do, what the Big Twelve is trying to do.
- 22:52Speaker 1: And I know that the commissioner, your Mark, thinks that
- 22:56Speaker 1: basketball is undervalued and the Big Twelve being a small
- 23:01Speaker 1: basketball a strong basketball conference, he believes they can they
- 23:05Speaker 1: can almost have their own separate Metea Rights Steel when
- 23:10Speaker 1: the new Meteor Rights Steel ends in twenty thirty one,
- 23:13Speaker 1: it's they can have a basketball Media Rights Steel and
- 23:16Speaker 1: they can have a football Media right steel. And I
- 23:18Speaker 1: think that's something that that can happen. And remember, you're
- 23:23Speaker 1: not only going to take the great men's basketball program
- 23:27Speaker 1: and you're going to take the great women's basketball program
- 23:29Speaker 1: in so that would be a bonus for the Big Twelve. Obviously,
- 23:35Speaker 1: the Big Twelve presidents say, well, Yukon is in Connecticut.
- 23:42Speaker 1: We have schools in Arizona and in Utah and in Kansas.
- 23:49Speaker 1: That's you know, that adds to the travel expenses for
- 23:55Speaker 1: all these athletic programs. So we'll see now I know
- 24:00Speaker 1: that six.
- 24:02Speaker 3: So is this official?
- 24:03Speaker 2: Is this a sort of an official thing, Lou like
- 24:05Speaker 2: when the Big East, when the college basketball world starts,
- 24:09Speaker 2: Daniel will be coaching in the Big twelve.
- 24:11Speaker 3: Is this official?
- 24:12Speaker 1: Or is this?
- 24:12Speaker 3: Where are we with it? Now?
- 24:14Speaker 1: Here's where here's where we are with it? They they met,
- 24:17Speaker 1: they met yesterday.
- 24:19Speaker 5: Six schools I don't know which, six in the Big
- 24:24Speaker 5: twelves have accepted Yukon into the Big twelve to have
- 24:30Speaker 5: already have already voted against it.
- 24:33Speaker 1: They need twelve out of the sixteen Big Twelve presidents
- 24:38Speaker 1: to give them a ya. So they need six more.
- 24:44Speaker 1: Eight schools did not vote yesterday. So while I don't
- 24:50Speaker 1: know if it's gonna happen in the next week, last
- 24:52Speaker 1: week I heard it was gonna happen in two three weeks,
- 24:55Speaker 1: or it's been or they're gonna slow it down. But
- 24:58Speaker 1: the only thing that can hold Connecticut from joining the
- 25:01Speaker 1: Big twelve is if the presidents, who are very skeptical,
- 25:07Speaker 1: vote against it. They need five negative votes, and right
- 25:11Speaker 1: now they got they have six positives, two negative and
- 25:15Speaker 1: eight are still undeciding.
- 25:19Speaker 2: Well, this is very much a developing story, and I guy,
- 25:21Speaker 2: we're ahead of it in the end of summer here,
- 25:22Speaker 2: because imagine we weren't, and and all of a sudden,
- 25:25Speaker 2: the Yukon's in the.
- 25:27Speaker 3: In the Big Twelve, and they're gonna be like, well,
- 25:29Speaker 3: we didn't hear about that.
- 25:30Speaker 2: Well now you did, Now you hear there's a possibility
- 25:33Speaker 2: of Yukon during the Big Twelve thanks to who else
- 25:37Speaker 2: lou Terminella Terminilla's take, lou I hope you get the
- 25:41Speaker 2: summer set and take an Italian Heritage night and watch Riza.
- 25:44Speaker 2: I know you're a Met fan, but come on, make
- 25:46Speaker 2: the drive tonight, Louis.
- 25:48Speaker 1: I would like to drive to Lynnhurst and get some
- 25:50Speaker 1: Italian eyes, a nice, a nice big cup of charcolate
- 25:57Speaker 1: Italian eyes. It's fantastic, Alex, they have great, great, great
- 26:02Speaker 1: Italian ice.
- 26:03Speaker 2: Well, I will, I will, I will take up on that.
- 26:05Speaker 2: Maybe we'll go together and do a live show from there.
- 26:07Speaker 2: That would be kind of cool.
- 26:08Speaker 1: That's great.
- 26:09Speaker 3: Yeah, lou Terminello Terminilo's take.
- 26:11Speaker 2: Once again, thanks for breaking some news with us and
- 26:15Speaker 2: for giving us your take on mister one thousand Aaron
- 26:18Speaker 2: Judge one thousand hit in about eight year span. That
- 26:22Speaker 2: feels like a fast paced, right, lou Well, it comes out.
- 26:26Speaker 1: To about and again we'll say, and I'm gonna let's
- 26:28Speaker 1: give him seven years because that COVID year of sixty games,
- 26:32Speaker 1: it wasn't really a full year. So that's one hundred
- 26:34Speaker 1: and forty three hundred forty five. It's a year. Obviously
- 26:39Speaker 1: gets pitched around a lot. That that's that's that's pretty good.
- 26:43Speaker 1: He's not gonna get three thousand hits unless he plays.
- 26:46Speaker 1: He plays forty five and he's effective unto least forty five.
- 26:50Speaker 1: But he's a slugger, he's a run producer. You can't
- 26:53Speaker 1: ask for a better run producer than Aaron Judge. I mean,
- 26:57Speaker 1: I don't know if he's gonna win the MVP unanimously,
- 27:00Speaker 1: because there might be one or two votes, especially from
- 27:03Speaker 1: the Al Central, that might give Bobby with Junior a vote.
- 27:07Speaker 1: But that doesn't matter. The guy's the best player in baseball,
- 27:10Speaker 1: and he's the best player in baseball by a pretty
- 27:13Speaker 1: good margin. Yes, shany O'tani has the opportunity to achieve
- 27:17Speaker 1: fifty home runs and fifty steals and he leads you know,
- 27:21Speaker 1: the National League and home runs he was leading the
- 27:24Speaker 1: Nation League and RBIs up until last night when Nosuna
- 27:27Speaker 1: passed them, but he could still lead there. He has
- 27:30Speaker 1: a three to seventy on on base percentage. He has
- 27:34Speaker 1: one hundred runs scored. Judge has one hundred and four
- 27:38Speaker 1: runs scored. I mean, this guy might have one hundred
- 27:41Speaker 1: and thirty five runs squed by the end of the year.
- 27:43Speaker 1: But both of these guys are having tremendous, tremendous offensive seasons.
- 27:48Speaker 1: The difference is Judge plays the field, and he plays
- 27:51Speaker 1: the field well. He's an excellent outfielder.
- 27:55Speaker 2: Oh yes, I think him and center is just it's
- 27:58Speaker 2: a perfect fit for the Yankees. And now so it's
- 28:01Speaker 2: like your captain out there leading the team in center.
- 28:03Speaker 3: I love it.
- 28:04Speaker 2: I love what he does out there, and it's great. Hey,
- 28:07Speaker 2: one last thing, well two things really before we sign out. First,
- 28:11Speaker 2: as some breaking news here with you, Lou Naomi Issaka
- 28:14Speaker 2: being tendering ostin Panka today in straight sets. So Naomi
- 28:19Speaker 2: Issaka moving on at the US Open.
- 28:21Speaker 3: I love to see that. She's she's a success.
- 28:23Speaker 2: Story in her own right. And then of course, so
- 28:27Speaker 2: you have that. And then last night Danny Jansen becoming
- 28:30Speaker 2: a first in baseball playing for the same two different
- 28:35Speaker 2: teams in the same game.
- 28:37Speaker 3: What a year.
- 28:38Speaker 1: She was watching that yesterday afternoon. It was really I mean,
- 28:41Speaker 1: it's not it's it's weird. But obviously I don't know
- 28:46Speaker 1: how big a deal it is. But what they suspended
- 28:50Speaker 1: the game. Danny Jansen was at bat for Toronto and
- 28:55Speaker 1: he took a strike or or he found it off.
- 28:57Speaker 1: He had an old one count, so that they called
- 29:00Speaker 1: the game. They suspended the game that was back in May.
- 29:03Speaker 1: So then he gets traded, so then he's catching in
- 29:07Speaker 1: the same game for the Red Sox and he was
- 29:10Speaker 1: supposed to be up at the plate for the for
- 29:13Speaker 1: the Blue Jays when the game resumed, so they had
- 29:15Speaker 1: to put a pinch hitter up for him that had
- 29:18Speaker 1: an er in one count. It really is bizarre, but uh,
- 29:23Speaker 1: that's baseball.
- 29:24Speaker 2: Alex, that baseball. That's tennis. Congrats Osaka, straight sets over
- 29:30Speaker 2: the tenth ranked. I mean, remember she had some off
- 29:32Speaker 2: time because of what happened at the US Open. I think, yes,
- 29:35Speaker 2: she had to take a mental health break, and maybe
- 29:37Speaker 2: she's back at it, yep.
- 29:39Speaker 1: But we'll see, you know. I was surprised less night
- 29:43Speaker 1: I was watching Sloan Stevens and looked like she had
- 29:47Speaker 1: she had her match set and then she just she
- 29:51Speaker 1: won the first nine games and it looked like she
- 29:53Speaker 1: was going to breeze to a two set victory and
- 29:55Speaker 1: she fell apart. So but Djokovic, he won straight sets.
- 30:00Speaker 1: Bad knee and all that guy's competitive.
- 30:04Speaker 2: Oh yeah, I asked Ted Demonez, I'm gonna ask you,
- 30:06Speaker 2: are we done? Will there be a big you know,
- 30:11Speaker 2: encore at the at the French Open for the dollar?
- 30:14Speaker 3: Is he done? What? What's your take on all of that?
- 30:18Speaker 2: I would you mean at the US Open or or
- 30:23Speaker 2: well the prediction that Ted Teleman, he's a professional player
- 30:26Speaker 2: we just talk to.
- 30:27Speaker 3: He thinks they're.
- 30:28Speaker 2: Gonna do one more hurrah for him in the in
- 30:31Speaker 2: the French Open next year, but that maybe that's it.
- 30:34Speaker 2: I mean, do you see him continuing on later?
- 30:37Speaker 1: I think I think Alex, I think he's physically broken down.
- 30:41Speaker 1: I mean, you saw how we lost quickly initiates French Open,
- 30:46Speaker 1: and he lost in the first round of the Olympics.
- 30:49Speaker 1: They might do something since he is the king of clay.
- 30:52Speaker 1: Next year, you know, at Roland Galarus in Paris. But
- 30:58Speaker 1: you know, we'll have to see Meg again, if he
- 31:00Speaker 1: still has the competitive juices and if he can get
- 31:03Speaker 1: himself to a point physically where he thinks he can compete.
- 31:06Speaker 1: You know, Andy Murray tried that with his you know,
- 31:08Speaker 1: with those hip injuries that he had, and he tried.
- 31:11Speaker 1: It's tough, you know, and now, especially when you're at
- 31:14Speaker 1: that age and then you're a movement sport where you're
- 31:18Speaker 1: going diagonally horizontally, it's you know, it's it's not easy.
- 31:23Speaker 1: And you got these young these young guys that are
- 31:28Speaker 1: just incredible athletes. So we'll see. I mean, I would
- 31:33Speaker 1: doubt it. I think this is it. I think the
- 31:35Speaker 1: dell Is is done from playing any any major tennis events.
- 31:42Speaker 3: Wow.
- 31:43Speaker 2: Well, Luter maanel on that note, what a career he had.
- 31:47Speaker 2: And we'll have to track that with with you in
- 31:50Speaker 2: the upcoming weeks, you know, in not coming months with Nadal.
- 31:53Speaker 2: But right now, we got to track the rest of
- 31:55Speaker 2: the US Open, and so we'll see what happens and
- 31:57Speaker 2: enjoy it and hopefully get to see you soon Louis
- 31:59Speaker 2: May with that bakery, I.
- 32:00Speaker 1: Don't know yet, we'll see, Okay, all right, Alex, thank you. Yes,
- 32:04Speaker 1: a lot of good sports coming up now, as you
- 32:06Speaker 1: go past Labor Day, NFL college football, uh, the two
- 32:10Speaker 1: weeks of the US Open, the beginning of the hockey
- 32:12Speaker 1: and basketball seasons. It's gonna be it's gonna be fun.
- 32:16Speaker 2: Then one leg up on sports, but terminals take Luke
- 32:18Speaker 2: Urmandello on the Alex Garrett Podcast Network
