- 0:03Speaker 1: Hey, Happy Monday, Tod Father Monday, Kevin Pollar Monday, Hey
- 0:07Speaker 1: j and Kratz doing who knows what, but let's have
- 0:10Speaker 1: some fun. We'll recap the weekend and also do some
- 0:13Speaker 1: shout outs at the top here before we dive into
- 0:16Speaker 1: news and what we saw. Here's one team that admitted
- 0:19Speaker 1: league guys. We're not going to do a whole segment
- 0:21Speaker 1: on today, but I just wanted to give them a
- 0:23Speaker 1: shout out so we don't miss them. You know, we
- 0:25Speaker 1: get a lot of I can't believe you did this
- 0:27Speaker 1: show without talking about this team. Well, there's thirty teams.
- 0:30Speaker 1: We're trying our best, but I just wanted to shout
- 0:32Speaker 1: one out, Todd Father. I feel like this applies to
- 0:35Speaker 1: some of the predictions that you make. You gotta give
- 0:38Speaker 1: it a little bit of time. The Mariners were off
- 0:40Speaker 1: to a slow start. They went into Game seven of
- 0:43Speaker 1: the Worlds of the Alcs last year, a deep run
- 0:46Speaker 1: against the Blue Jays, and then they were like, what
- 0:49Speaker 1: four or five games under for a while.
- 0:51Speaker 2: They've won six in a row. They're gonna be fine.
- 0:53Speaker 1: Those are some of the names where I'm like, pump
- 0:56Speaker 1: the brakes if you're in Seattle and you saw the
- 0:58Speaker 1: success last year, you're probably be like I expected this
- 1:01Speaker 1: team be fifteen over five hundred at the one third mark.
- 1:04Speaker 1: It's not always like that. But they're good.
- 1:07Speaker 3: They're very good.
- 1:08Speaker 4: It's just one of those teams where at the beginning
- 1:11Speaker 4: you're sitting there saying, like, oh boy, is.
- 1:14Speaker 3: This is this is not gonna happen again.
- 1:17Speaker 4: Like, listen, they have the pitching, they have the team.
- 1:20Speaker 4: I mean, are they gonna get five six runs of games?
- 1:23Speaker 4: Maybe not, but they're gonna find a way to win
- 1:25Speaker 4: those games eventually. Mister Rodriguez coming through. I mean the team. Listen,
- 1:31Speaker 4: they talk about the team striking out all the time.
- 1:33Speaker 4: This is a team that goes about their business the
- 1:35Speaker 4: right way. They have the staff, they have players that
- 1:38Speaker 4: could play the game. Is it the best game to
- 1:40Speaker 4: watch all the time? In my opinion, No, But they're
- 1:43Speaker 4: out West, They're playing against some tough competition. The Astros
- 1:46Speaker 4: are starting to play a little better. But this is
- 1:49Speaker 4: good for baseball to see the maners do what they do,
- 1:52Speaker 4: and yeah, let's give them a little credit.
- 1:53Speaker 3: They're gonna go on.
- 1:54Speaker 4: A little run here and let them be the ebbs
- 1:57Speaker 4: and flows of the year, which people need to really
- 1:59Speaker 4: understand if you're true fan.
- 2:01Speaker 5: Yeah, definitely.
- 2:02Speaker 6: I mean I think it was only a matter of
- 2:04Speaker 6: time before this team got back to kind of the
- 2:06Speaker 6: team we saw a little bit last year. And obviously,
- 2:08Speaker 6: as a person that covers the Toronto Blue Jays and
- 2:11Speaker 6: a team that I follow, you know, they're still going
- 2:13Speaker 6: through their ebbs and.
- 2:14Speaker 5: Flows a little bit too. But I think both of
- 2:15Speaker 5: these teams kind of went to uncharted territory.
- 2:18Speaker 6: Last year and getting so deep into the playoffs. The
- 2:21Speaker 6: hangovers real, the target on their back is real, and
- 2:24Speaker 6: I think it just took them a little bit of
- 2:25Speaker 6: time to understand that, you know, teams are not just
- 2:28Speaker 6: going to come into Toronto and Seattle and just kind
- 2:30Speaker 6: of roll over, like they're using that as a barometer
- 2:33Speaker 6: to see how successful they are. And this is a
- 2:35Speaker 6: question I'm gonna ask Bob later, but I kind of
- 2:37Speaker 6: want to ask you guys real quick, is at what
- 2:40Speaker 6: point of the season are we deepen up into the
- 2:42Speaker 6: season that we believe like a certain team that is
- 2:45Speaker 6: having success is sustainable. And then do we believe that
- 2:48Speaker 6: some of these bad teams, you know, we're teams that
- 2:50Speaker 6: are underperforming, Like do we have a big enough body
- 2:53Speaker 6: of work to say that's just who they are yet.
- 2:57Speaker 2: I mean Todd.
- 2:58Speaker 1: For me, it's case by case, and I think if
- 3:03Speaker 1: you're looking at a team trying to make a judgment
- 3:05Speaker 1: and they're five games under, five games over, somewhere in
- 3:09Speaker 1: that range or between right or a five hundred team,
- 3:13Speaker 1: I don't know if you can do much because we've
- 3:14Speaker 1: seen so many instances in the past half decade where
- 3:17Speaker 1: a team's hanging around the five hundred range June, July,
- 3:21Speaker 1: even some getting close to August, and then all of
- 3:23Speaker 1: a sudden, they go on a run. Guys get healthy,
- 3:26Speaker 1: they get a streak going, and then that carries into
- 3:28Speaker 1: the postseason. For me, to answer KP's question, it's more
- 3:32Speaker 1: like the Tigers being fifteen ish games under five hundred
- 3:37Speaker 1: and going, Okay, that's going to be really tough to
- 3:39Speaker 1: climb out of.
- 3:40Speaker 2: This doesn't look like good ball.
- 3:42Speaker 1: I know they're missing their big boy, but is this
- 3:43Speaker 1: team capable of winning twelve in a row whatever it
- 3:47Speaker 1: is to get themselves back into the mix. That's where
- 3:49Speaker 1: I do the judgments on the teams that are way
- 3:51Speaker 1: back in terms of the five hundred mark.
- 3:53Speaker 3: What about you, I don't think you could say, any team.
- 3:57Speaker 4: And this is my sole reason why, because I'm looking
- 4:00Speaker 4: at the standings. The worst team, as you said, the
- 4:02Speaker 4: Tigers are seven games out of the wildcard and we're
- 4:04Speaker 4: not even halfway through. So I think that's the I
- 4:09Speaker 4: don't say issue, but that's the understanding that, yeah, there's
- 4:13Speaker 4: some teams that are doing bad. The Orioles, they don't
- 4:15Speaker 4: look really good, but they're what one game out of
- 4:17Speaker 4: the wild card. It's insane to think there's how many.
- 4:21Speaker 4: I mean, you can name five to eight teams right
- 4:23Speaker 4: now that are playing underperforming. So but all those five
- 4:28Speaker 4: to eight teams have an opportunity to make the playoffs.
- 4:31Speaker 4: So that's where I just can't pinpoint one team. But understandably, like, yeah,
- 4:36Speaker 4: the Angels six games.
- 4:37Speaker 3: Out of the wildcard.
- 4:39Speaker 4: Yeah, there's opportunities for every single at least American League team,
- 4:43Speaker 4: and as we dive in the National League, same thing.
- 4:45Speaker 4: Besides Colorado, I mean, they're ten games out. But still
- 4:48Speaker 4: I can't pinpoint one team. But you know, I look
- 4:50Speaker 4: at the Orioles. I look at the Blue Jays truthfully,
- 4:53Speaker 4: like they got to pick it up a little bit.
- 4:54Speaker 1: Yeah, yeah, the Orioles, right, I think they just finished
- 4:58Speaker 1: up a seven and three runs. It doesn't take much
- 5:01Speaker 1: to get yourself right back into the mix. Okay, let's
- 5:04Speaker 1: get to a couple powerhouses in the National League and
- 5:07Speaker 1: recap their weekend's charge out. All right, we're charging talking
- 5:13Speaker 1: Phillies and Dodgers and KP. The Dodgers won two out
- 5:17Speaker 1: of three against Philly. Fun series, a lot of star power,
- 5:22Speaker 1: as I usually say with series really in general. In
- 5:25Speaker 1: the regular season, do you learn about how these two
- 5:27Speaker 1: teams match up? No, you just see one team going
- 5:29Speaker 1: against another good team, and if anything, this could be
- 5:32Speaker 1: a scary stat that's on the screen. Corey Seideman on Twitter,
- 5:34Speaker 1: posting the Phillies leave LA eight and seventeen against teams
- 5:37Speaker 1: currently occupying playoff spots. Their next twelve games are against
- 5:41Speaker 1: teams occupying playoff spots. For me, KP, I'm not too
- 5:45Speaker 1: concerned about the eight and seventeen number. The team looked
- 5:47Speaker 1: like crap for the first few weeks of the season,
- 5:49Speaker 1: and that's why their manager got fired. And it wasn't
- 5:51Speaker 1: you know it is the personnel just not living up
- 5:53Speaker 1: to what they usually do in a short sample size.
- 5:56Speaker 2: If anything.
- 5:57Speaker 1: Okay, let's see what the next twelve look like and
- 5:59Speaker 1: how they stack up against some good teams.
- 6:01Speaker 6: Yeah, you took the words exactly out of my mouth.
- 6:03Speaker 6: I think we got to look like the season split
- 6:06Speaker 6: into two. It was the pre Don Mannley and the
- 6:08Speaker 6: post Don Mannley. But I think these next twelve games
- 6:10Speaker 6: is going to be kind of telling of the new
- 6:13Speaker 6: kind of Phillies, the Phillies that we kind of expect
- 6:15Speaker 6: every year. You know, over the last couple of years,
- 6:18Speaker 6: they have a lot of players underperforming, but they've actually
- 6:21Speaker 6: been playing pretty good baseball since Donnie Baseball took over.
- 6:24Speaker 6: And I mean when you play a three game series,
- 6:27Speaker 6: it's such a small sample size, but you know, the
- 6:29Speaker 6: overreaction is as if the Phillies didn't even win a
- 6:32Speaker 6: game there.
- 6:32Speaker 5: They did win one game.
- 6:33Speaker 6: Going to LA is a tough place. The Dodgers are
- 6:35Speaker 6: the back to back chances for a reason. But I
- 6:37Speaker 6: do think these next twelve games is going to set
- 6:41Speaker 6: us up to have a better understanding of the Phillies
- 6:43Speaker 6: moving forward.
- 6:44Speaker 5: To me, the Phillies are.
- 6:45Speaker 6: Probably the scariest team if they get going.
- 6:49Speaker 5: Because of that pitching, that starting pitching staff they have.
- 6:51Speaker 6: Imagine rolling out, you know, just Christopher Sanchez and Zach
- 6:55Speaker 6: Wheeler in a postseason scary series is terrifying for all hitters.
- 7:01Speaker 4: I mean, listen, we talked about this Phillies team underperforming
- 7:04Speaker 4: and then they dominate and then underperforming. Yeah, eight and
- 7:08Speaker 4: seventeen against some really good teams. Let's talk about this
- 7:11Speaker 4: in another sixty games and see where they're at. I
- 7:13Speaker 4: feel like this team will come back. I know they
- 7:16Speaker 4: played the next twelve games against occupying playoff spots.
- 7:19Speaker 3: Yeah, well guess what in those next twelve games, it
- 7:21Speaker 3: might be five other different teams.
- 7:23Speaker 4: So not really worried about the Philly Zach Wheeler has
- 7:26Speaker 4: been absolutely phenomenal. Sanchez has been there the whole time,
- 7:29Speaker 4: had a couple of mishaps.
- 7:31Speaker 3: Kyle Swarver is a beast. These guys know what they're doing.
- 7:34Speaker 4: It's more of a veteran team, one of the best
- 7:37Speaker 4: veteran teams you'll see out there, and I feel like
- 7:40Speaker 4: they're going to be just fine.
- 7:43Speaker 2: Kratz, I know you love dad jokes. This is not
- 7:45Speaker 2: a joke.
- 7:46Speaker 1: Ridge's five and one travel power bank is the answer
- 7:49Speaker 1: to all of your MESSI wires all over the place issues.
- 7:53Speaker 2: Yeah, one hundred percent.
- 7:54Speaker 7: I don't need more tube sucks. I need this because
- 7:57Speaker 7: somebody is going to use my phone that I fully
- 7:59Speaker 7: charged and then dies halfway through the softball game that
- 8:02Speaker 7: I go to. So this will lock it in and
- 8:05Speaker 7: my friend next to me who forgot to charge his phone.
- 8:08Speaker 1: Ridge makes life better. They revolutionize the wallet right now.

- 8:16Speaker 1: of your issues. So many elite features, mag Safe wireless charging,

- 8:34Speaker 1: one of their biggest discounts all year. Just head to
- 8:37Speaker 1: Ridge dot com slash foul and you're all set. After
- 8:40Speaker 1: you purchase the last where you heard about them. Please
- 8:42Speaker 1: support our show and tell them we sent you Todd
- 8:44Speaker 1: Father for me. The story of the series was the
- 8:48Speaker 1: first game where Zach Wheeler was outmatched and Justin Robleski
- 8:53Speaker 1: continues to make a name for himself in a starting role.
- 8:56Speaker 1: You know Karrien a no no for a while, finishing
- 8:58Speaker 1: up with seven innings a running nine pun Chaud's Wheeler
- 9:00Speaker 1: gave up four solo homers, so it wasn't his best outing.
- 9:03Speaker 2: And Robleski is doing it right now.
- 9:06Speaker 3: Yeah, he looks He looks really good.
- 9:08Speaker 4: And you know the part about Wheeler, if I mean
- 9:10Speaker 4: solo home runs, Carlos Ordan was the best at that
- 9:13Speaker 4: last couple of years.
- 9:14Speaker 3: He giving up those solo shots.
- 9:16Speaker 4: But you only give up four runs, you got to
- 9:18Speaker 4: find a way to fight back at least get four.
- 9:20Speaker 3: And it's that kind of game. You gotta find a way.
- 9:22Speaker 4: But I guess one of those things where when the
- 9:25Speaker 4: Dodgers get out in front right now, where they're at
- 9:28Speaker 4: in the season, there's no stop in them. You know
- 9:31Speaker 4: they got the tools, you know they got the players.
- 9:33Speaker 4: Pitching staff has been really good, has been really good,
- 9:36Speaker 4: and Robleski has been another bright little spot that people.
- 9:40Speaker 3: Aren't gonna say the sexiest pick.
- 9:42Speaker 4: You're the sexiest name out there, but if you're on
- 9:44Speaker 4: the Dodgers, you better fall in line.
- 9:46Speaker 3: That train is moving and it's moving towards more wins.
- 9:48Speaker 4: And if you're not on that, they're gonna find somebody
- 9:51Speaker 4: else waiting in the wings.
- 9:52Speaker 6: Yeah, and I want to just touch on that a
- 9:54Speaker 6: little bit too, because I know the CBA was a
- 9:56Speaker 6: big talk. But this is a thing that the Dodgers
- 9:58Speaker 6: don't get enough credit for too, is they're not drafting
- 10:01Speaker 6: at the beginning of the draft.
- 10:02Speaker 5: Every year. A lot of these.
- 10:03Speaker 6: Players that they draft them develop our guys that are
- 10:05Speaker 6: either drafted later in the first round or even later
- 10:08Speaker 6: than that in the draft. So you have to give credit. Yes,
- 10:10Speaker 6: do they have the ability to go out and sign
- 10:12Speaker 6: the best and biggest regent, Sure, but they also do
- 10:15Speaker 6: an unbelievable job of drafting and developing too.
- 10:19Speaker 8: What have you made up some of the plays that
- 10:21Speaker 8: Adrian Carson have made in the outfield?
- 10:24Speaker 9: They are great, man, they are great. They call each
- 10:27Speaker 9: other a psychopath and I'm like, yeah, you guys are.
- 10:31Speaker 9: I mean, it's just crazy. How hard are they going
- 10:34Speaker 9: into the wall or running around the field.
- 10:37Speaker 3: It's incredible. It's how much are you enjoying?
- 10:40Speaker 8: Just kind of being like a mentor to them.
- 10:44Speaker 3: I mean I don't try to be a mentor. I
- 10:46Speaker 3: tried to be one of them, you know.
- 10:47Speaker 9: I try to make them feel like they are part
- 10:50Speaker 9: of these They are the same as me. They is
- 10:52Speaker 9: that they have the same boys. They just you know,
- 10:55Speaker 9: some things that sometimes we got to help them, like,
- 10:59Speaker 9: you know, to get through it. And it's the first
- 11:01Speaker 9: time for them being the big leagues. But at the
- 11:04Speaker 9: end of the day, I tried to be one of them.
- 11:06Speaker 9: I just tried to enjoy the moment and have a
- 11:08Speaker 9: great time with them.
- 11:10Speaker 1: That's Wan Soto talking about psychopath rookie teammates in the outfields.
- 11:14Speaker 1: We have our resident outfield psychopath here today, a KP.
- 11:17Speaker 1: I'm sure you'd like to hear that.
- 11:19Speaker 3: I love to hear it.
- 11:19Speaker 6: I mean, it's a great way for some young players
- 11:22Speaker 6: to kind of make a name for themselves and just
- 11:24Speaker 6: go out there and play hard. I think people, for
- 11:26Speaker 6: I think people don't understand this that at the big
- 11:29Speaker 6: league level, when you are a defensive player, or when
- 11:32Speaker 6: you're playing defense that is really not supposed to slump,
- 11:34Speaker 6: Like you're expected to go out there and make plays.
- 11:37Speaker 6: Pitchers make a ton of money and you put a
- 11:39Speaker 6: defense out there that's supposed to.
- 11:40Speaker 5: Make the plays.
- 11:42Speaker 6: The best way for you to kind of go through
- 11:44Speaker 6: the ebbs and flows that every player goes through offensively
- 11:47Speaker 6: is to be a great defender.
- 11:48Speaker 5: For me in my career, being able to go out
- 11:51Speaker 5: and play good, good defense.
- 11:52Speaker 6: Great defense at times allowed me to struggle at the
- 11:55Speaker 6: play and then to continue to give me at bats.
- 11:57Speaker 6: You know, a lot of people put a lot of
- 11:58Speaker 6: stock in their offense when they come up, but I
- 12:00Speaker 6: always try to remind young guys go on, play good defense,
- 12:05Speaker 6: all right.
- 12:06Speaker 1: This Jeff Passing tweet laid out the numbers. If you're
- 12:09Speaker 1: voting for picture of the Month and you can only
- 12:11Speaker 1: pick one, no cop outs. Christopher Sanchez thirty nine innings,
- 12:14Speaker 1: twenty five hits, no runs, three walks, forty five punch outs.
- 12:18Speaker 1: The Miz thirty eight and a third innings, fourteen hits,
- 12:21Speaker 1: one run, six walks, fifty seven punch outs.
- 12:24Speaker 2: I mean, good luck, KP. You want to go.
- 12:28Speaker 6: First, Yeah, considering I still don't understand FIP, I'm gonna
- 12:32Speaker 6: go Christopher Sanchez. And he's pitched a couple more innings,
- 12:35Speaker 6: but he's on a historic run.
- 12:37Speaker 5: He hasn't given up in a run and.
- 12:38Speaker 6: God knows when, and I I just love that he's
- 12:43Speaker 6: just kind of a true pitcher, not to take away
- 12:44Speaker 6: from the Miz obviously incredible for our sport.
- 12:47Speaker 5: You know, a unicorn in his own right.
- 12:49Speaker 6: But Christopher Sanchez man like he his story of kind
- 12:53Speaker 6: of just being very average, and then you could kind
- 12:55Speaker 6: of see the potential and the starter he's turned into
- 12:57Speaker 6: I think is incredible.
- 13:00Speaker 3: Well, this is a tough one.
- 13:01Speaker 4: I can agree with you, but I'm going to disagree
- 13:03Speaker 4: with Miz has been absolutely fantastic. I go by the hits.
- 13:06Speaker 4: There are only fourteen hits I saw Sanchez. I think
- 13:11Speaker 4: it was twenty five. Forget about the era. That's unbelievable.
- 13:15Speaker 4: Strikeouts as well, I would go with him with more
- 13:17Speaker 4: strikeouts and less hits.
- 13:19Speaker 3: In my opinion, you can't go wrong here.
- 13:22Speaker 4: This is what you want to see in baseball as
- 13:26Speaker 4: a baseball fan, whether you're a Phillies fan or Brewers fan,
- 13:29Speaker 4: or none of the above.
- 13:31Speaker 3: It's absolutely fantastic. Keep that going.
- 13:34Speaker 1: Yeah, two different profiles, right, this is just gonna overpower you.
- 13:39Speaker 1: Did you guys see the Jordan Alvarez matchup from the
- 13:42Speaker 1: weekend where he went three straight heaters and what was
- 13:45Speaker 1: the one of the pitches I think was what one
- 13:47Speaker 1: O three point something? Right, we're close to one O
- 13:52Speaker 1: four on three pitches in the ab all fastballs, just
- 13:55Speaker 1: challenge a few different locations.
- 13:58Speaker 2: It's beautiful.
- 14:00Speaker 6: It was a beautiful thing, because that's, uh, in my opinion,
- 14:03Speaker 6: one of the best hitters in baseball, and the fact
- 14:05Speaker 6: that he just didn't even try to fool him. He
- 14:08Speaker 6: just said, here's the fastball three straight times and it
- 14:11Speaker 6: didn't look like he had a really good shot at it.
- 14:13Speaker 6: So just imagine what the other hitters in the league
- 14:15Speaker 6: are feeling. If you're don Alvarez is not able to
- 14:18Speaker 6: square them up, what do guys like myself?
- 14:21Speaker 5: What kind of chance do I have?
- 14:24Speaker 1: There's a an interview from the Weekend Todd where someone's
- 14:30Speaker 1: asking what did you think of your month of May
- 14:31Speaker 1: and missus like it was pretty good, and then they
- 14:34Speaker 1: were like you had a two three in six starts,
- 14:37Speaker 1: and he's like, I mean that's decent.
- 14:43Speaker 3: Kind of humble bragground call that one exactly.
- 14:46Speaker 2: I like it. Competence Oozing hot Corner.
- 14:54Speaker 1: There will be a number of injuries. It's almost like
- 14:56Speaker 1: a mini hot corner slash injuries suck segment. But the
- 14:59Speaker 1: segment after the one, or the topic after this one
- 15:01Speaker 1: will be a little juicy with a player not able
- 15:04Speaker 1: to pitch right now. But before that Murakami Grade two
- 15:07Speaker 1: hamstring strain trying to.
- 15:09Speaker 2: Leg out a double play. You like to see that.
- 15:12Speaker 2: Of course he's hustling.
- 15:13Speaker 1: He's always hustling to Todd Father, I mean, that's like
- 15:15Speaker 1: the tenth tenth thing you'd bring up when you're talking
- 15:18Speaker 1: about him. But he busted as quick as he can
- 15:21Speaker 1: down the line, and he pulls up lame with the
- 15:23Speaker 1: hammy injury and he's gonna miss probably a month.
- 15:26Speaker 2: And a half.
- 15:28Speaker 1: That sucks on a number of levels. But for White
- 15:31Speaker 1: Sox fans, this is your best player.
- 15:34Speaker 3: Yeah.
- 15:34Speaker 4: I mean, listen, I've had a Grade one before and
- 15:37Speaker 4: it took a good month twenty five days to heal
- 15:40Speaker 4: up to feel like normal, and then you got to
- 15:42Speaker 4: rehab and go.
- 15:43Speaker 3: Through all of that.
- 15:44Speaker 4: This could be this could be close to two months.
- 15:47Speaker 4: You know, these these ham strings and they last forever.
- 15:50Speaker 4: You might feel well, but you'll always know that it's
- 15:53Speaker 4: their hamstrings are the worst. KP's probably been through a
- 15:57Speaker 4: bunch of them too. It's just, uh, they're nagging injuries.
- 16:00Speaker 4: And for what he was doing, I had Cratzy on
- 16:03Speaker 4: the rope there. I was saying forty plus home runs
- 16:06Speaker 4: and now I don't know what's going to happen. Man,
- 16:08Speaker 4: what a what a solid guy? I mean, we don't
- 16:10Speaker 4: know what's gonna happen for the White Sox. So even
- 16:11Speaker 4: though they won a couple of games without him, this
- 16:15Speaker 4: is a big one.
- 16:16Speaker 3: It's a big blow.
- 16:18Speaker 6: Yeah, I feel for the White Sox. I feel for him, Scott.
- 16:20Speaker 6: I remember in the offseason we were sitting here having
- 16:24Speaker 6: this debate about him, and we had people coming on,
- 16:27Speaker 6: you know, people that have seen him play in Japan,
- 16:29Speaker 6: and we were reading all the numbers about the fact
- 16:31Speaker 6: that he couldn't hit the fastball.
- 16:32Speaker 5: In fact, he's got.
- 16:33Speaker 6: Twenty home runs at this point of the season. Is
- 16:35Speaker 6: a huge loss for the White Sox. It's devastating for him.
- 16:39Speaker 6: He probably was going to go on and win the
- 16:40Speaker 6: Rookie of the Year in the American League. And honestly,
- 16:43Speaker 6: it's a big blow for baseball because I think when
- 16:46Speaker 6: the White Sox are good, it's great for baseball, and
- 16:48Speaker 6: losing your best player is never easy. I know that
- 16:50Speaker 6: they've been able to win five straight games and he's
- 16:52Speaker 6: been on the he's been out a couple of those games,
- 16:55Speaker 6: but what.
- 16:55Speaker 5: An incredible start.
- 16:56Speaker 6: Twenty homers, you know, almost a four hundred on base percentage,
- 17:00Speaker 6: nine thirty eight ops. I know the strikeout rates a
- 17:03Speaker 6: little bit high, but no one cares if you're striking
- 17:05Speaker 6: out and you're hitting the ball out of the ballpark.
- 17:08Speaker 2: Yes, exactly.
- 17:09Speaker 1: You know, sometimes we go too far with that narrative,
- 17:12Speaker 1: right KP. Yeah, if you're if you're a fifteen homer bat,
- 17:15Speaker 1: it would be nice if you don't strike out thirty
- 17:17Speaker 1: five percent of the time.
- 17:18Speaker 2: If you're a forty you're okay.
- 17:21Speaker 6: I mean, he's also pretty much has a two to
- 17:23Speaker 6: one walk ratio too, so like he's striking out, but
- 17:26Speaker 6: he's also walking a ton too.
- 17:28Speaker 5: To me a strikeout rate.
- 17:29Speaker 6: Like you said, if you're not hitting the ball out
- 17:31Speaker 6: of the ballpark and you're not walking, I'm gonna need
- 17:33Speaker 6: you to kind of play your odds, put the ball
- 17:35Speaker 6: in play more and hope you get a hit.
- 17:37Speaker 5: But the fact that.
- 17:38Speaker 6: He's not super reliant on only getting a hit to
- 17:40Speaker 6: get on base. I mean, he has over forty walks
- 17:42Speaker 6: and two hundred backs. It's incredible, you know, I think,
- 17:45Speaker 6: what is that a I don't know, twenty that's like
- 17:48Speaker 6: a ten percent walk rate.
- 17:49Speaker 5: Which is way above league average, and he has twenty
- 17:52Speaker 5: home runs.
- 17:53Speaker 6: Like, you know, you got to take the strikeouts as
- 17:57Speaker 6: part of his game. You know, there's certain guys in
- 17:59Speaker 6: this game, and Todd maybe you were one of those guys.
- 18:01Speaker 6: When you have the ability to hit the ball out
- 18:03Speaker 6: of the ballpark, you got to pick and choose your spots,
- 18:06Speaker 6: like I don't need more COMI with two strikes and
- 18:09Speaker 6: no one on base, just trying to put the ball
- 18:10Speaker 6: in play, Like, continue to take your a swing. There
- 18:13Speaker 6: are certain times in the game that calls for you
- 18:15Speaker 6: to like, Hey, I need you to advance this runner.
- 18:17Speaker 5: I need you to put the ball in play. But
- 18:19Speaker 5: if he strikes out with no one on base and
- 18:21Speaker 5: two outs, we live with it. Take your a swing,
- 18:24Speaker 5: I agree.
- 18:25Speaker 3: Agree. Don't change just because of the situation. Be who
- 18:28Speaker 3: you are.
- 18:29Speaker 4: You know there might be a time where you know
- 18:32Speaker 4: you might have a situation to win the game. You know,
- 18:36Speaker 4: oh I might try and I might try and go
- 18:37Speaker 4: absolutely no, no, be who you are because you don't want nobody.
- 18:40Speaker 3: I say this all the time. You can. There's no
- 18:42Speaker 3: other Tony Gwinn in this world.
- 18:44Speaker 4: Rest in peace. There's no other Tony Gwinn. He could
- 18:46Speaker 4: do whatever he wanted with the baseball. So be who
- 18:49Speaker 4: you are. Don't try and change too much.
- 18:51Speaker 3: Yep.
- 18:52Speaker 1: And hopefully get well soon. It's a huge blow for
- 18:55Speaker 1: the White Sox. It really changes the way their lineup looks.
- 18:58Speaker 1: And if you watch enough of this team and the
- 19:01Speaker 1: impact that he was making, like the ripple effect for
- 19:03Speaker 1: the rest of the lineup.
- 19:04Speaker 2: This was the guy that were circling. He was changing game.
- 19:07Speaker 1: The swings were clutched too, right, I mean, this sometimes
- 19:10Speaker 1: can't be weighed, and I know there's win probability added,
- 19:12Speaker 1: but I mean he had a lot of clutch moments
- 19:14Speaker 1: already for the team with like late time, I.
- 19:18Speaker 5: Would say too.
- 19:19Speaker 6: I mean, I'm kind of just reading through the notes
- 19:20Speaker 6: here and obviously I saw and I don't know him personally.
- 19:23Speaker 6: I don't really follow the White Sox minor league system.
- 19:26Speaker 6: But the kid they brought up, Jake and Guzalez have
- 19:28Speaker 6: nineteen homers in Charlotte this year, and I know it's
- 19:31Speaker 6: not I know it's a very hitter friendly ballpark, but
- 19:34Speaker 6: you know, sometimes with injuries it kind of forces a
- 19:37Speaker 6: teen's hand and the fact that they're successful. Maybe they're
- 19:39Speaker 6: bringing up a guy maybe before they wanted to bring
- 19:41Speaker 6: him up. Imagine Jacob Gonzalez goes out and has a
- 19:44Speaker 6: nice month and a half two months and then you
- 19:46Speaker 6: bring more coming back.
- 19:47Speaker 5: It just adds to the depth of what the White
- 19:49Speaker 5: Sox are.
- 19:50Speaker 3: Trying to do.
- 19:51Speaker 2: Yep, good stuff.
- 19:52Speaker 1: Okay, Next up we'll get to the Pirates an injury
- 19:55Speaker 1: for them. But before that, a restricted list item that
- 19:58Speaker 1: carries over from a story that we covered on Friday.
- 20:01Speaker 1: Carmen Macginski was not ready to pitch this weekend. Ben
- 20:05Speaker 1: Charrington jam of the Pirates said this.
- 20:09Speaker 10: Karmis and Permanent informed us this morning he was not
- 20:13Speaker 10: ready to today, and so we made the decision to
- 20:17Speaker 10: place another string the list for today and recall Camp Sanderson.
- 20:22Speaker 10: So that's the headline. I'd like to work backward from that.
- 20:24Speaker 10: Share a little bit about context. We go back to
- 20:28Speaker 10: Wednesday when the conversation, the first conversation happened between Donnie
- 20:33Speaker 10: and Karman about the decision about the quotation. Going into
- 20:39Speaker 10: that conversation, we you know, decision was clear to us,
- 20:43Speaker 10: and we also understood that it would likely be a
- 20:46Speaker 10: challenging conversation.
- 20:48Speaker 2: We understood how.
- 20:51Speaker 10: Astronomy the Carmen desires to start, how important that is
- 20:54Speaker 10: to him, and we believe he can do that, would
- 20:57Speaker 10: believe that he can be a starting pitcher and can
- 21:00Speaker 10: be a starting pitcher.
- 21:01Speaker 3: In the future.
- 21:02Speaker 10: Also, well, we made that decision, had the conversation with.
- 21:07Speaker 3: Karly view it was going to be challenging.
- 21:09Speaker 10: And in the day since then, we've I think we've
- 21:12Speaker 10: made We've had very consistent communication with Carmen leading right
- 21:17Speaker 10: up till this morning, and I believe we've made a
- 21:20Speaker 10: lot of progress within him around what his role was
- 21:24Speaker 10: going to be and how we can work with him
- 21:26Speaker 10: in that role to help the team win. Confident that
- 21:30Speaker 10: we're going to see and pitch for this team very soon.
- 21:36Speaker 10: Buddy wasn't ready to do that today, and I think
- 21:39Speaker 10: going into the weekend we understood and communicated.
- 21:42Speaker 2: With Carmen that.
- 21:45Speaker 3: That's some work this weekend over.
- 21:46Speaker 10: I need him to be ready or we're gonna have
- 21:49Speaker 10: to replace on the team and in fairness to the team,
- 21:52Speaker 10: So that's what happened to him.
- 21:54Speaker 5: All right, I need a little clarity. You said you
- 21:56Speaker 5: covered this story on Friday. I saw it.
- 21:58Speaker 6: I didn't get going into the weeds on it, but
- 22:00Speaker 6: he was a storting pitcher that was taken out of
- 22:02Speaker 6: the rotation, put into the bullpen, and then they called
- 22:05Speaker 6: upon him to pitch out the bullpen and he wasn't ready.
- 22:08Speaker 5: That's accurate.
- 22:09Speaker 2: That's pretty much online.
- 22:10Speaker 1: I'll fill in a couple more blanks, but yeah, I
- 22:12Speaker 1: mean he had been pitching well, right, and he's been
- 22:14Speaker 1: vocal about wanting to be a starter in the past.
- 22:16Speaker 1: I know that doesn't really mean much. So there's a
- 22:18Speaker 1: lot of relievers that they want to be starters.
- 22:20Speaker 2: They get bumped to the bullpen. So Jared Jones comes back.
- 22:24Speaker 1: He's a young flamethrower that's going to be in the
- 22:27Speaker 1: rotation for them. Bubba Chandler has not pitched well so
- 22:29Speaker 1: far this year, but he's been one of their bigger
- 22:31Speaker 1: prospects and has big swing and miss stuff. His walk
- 22:33Speaker 1: grade has been crazy. But for Carmen here, if you're
- 22:39Speaker 1: a front office and you're looking at peripherals, first of all,
- 22:42Speaker 1: hard contact, low strikeout numbers, hit hard, third time through,
- 22:47Speaker 1: has had experience, this is the key as a swingman.
- 22:50Speaker 1: So they're adding all of this up and they're like, hey,
- 22:51Speaker 1: the more natural fit for us is to put this.
- 22:54Speaker 2: Guy in the bullpen and not Bubba.
- 22:56Speaker 1: Even though if we had to be weighed right now
- 22:58Speaker 1: on who's been a better starter, it's definitely Majinski.
- 23:01Speaker 2: So that's the context.
- 23:02Speaker 1: Then on Friday KP he said that he would have
- 23:05Speaker 1: to kind of talk to his inner circle and paraphrasing
- 23:07Speaker 1: like family agent was included in the quotes there. I
- 23:11Speaker 1: was actually one that was like, that's probably no big deal,
- 23:13Speaker 1: Pirates fans, you should just be excited that you have
- 23:15Speaker 1: such an embarrassment of riches that you're sending a three
- 23:17Speaker 1: and Alfbra.
- 23:17Speaker 2: Got to the bullpen.
- 23:18Speaker 1: Well, I was at least partially wrong here because now
- 23:21Speaker 1: he's actually disrupting the flow of the team by not
- 23:23Speaker 1: being ready to pitch. Lastly, it sounds like he will
- 23:26Speaker 1: be ready starting for Tuesday's game, but like he just
- 23:29Speaker 1: took almost you know, a week off to recalibrate while
- 23:33Speaker 1: he's clearly disgruntled with his role.
- 23:36Speaker 6: I don't know if you can see the discuss in
- 23:38Speaker 6: my face listening to this story, but I don't know
- 23:41Speaker 6: where we've gone wrong in terms of the way that
- 23:44Speaker 6: players think that they have the right to kind of
- 23:49Speaker 6: determine what they want to do within a team.
- 23:52Speaker 5: You should just be thankful that you're up. I know
- 23:54Speaker 5: you were pitching well.
- 23:55Speaker 6: You know there was times in my career I was
- 23:57Speaker 6: hitting well and yeah, I wanted to be the leadoff hitter,
- 23:59Speaker 6: but that's out of my control. You just kind of
- 24:02Speaker 6: do what the organization feels like it's best for not
- 24:05Speaker 6: only maybe you, but also the greater good of the team.
- 24:08Speaker 6: So good for them for putting them on the restricted list.
- 24:11Speaker 6: You know, you ask a guy to go to the
- 24:14Speaker 6: bullpen and then he tells you he needs to talk
- 24:16Speaker 6: to his inner circle.
- 24:17Speaker 5: He's not prepared to pitch, doesn't want to pitch out
- 24:19Speaker 5: of the bullpen.
- 24:19Speaker 6: It's the only thing you can really do at the
- 24:22Speaker 6: end of the day. Players care about one thing, and
- 24:24Speaker 6: it's playing time, and it's opportunity. You know, money's gonna
- 24:28Speaker 6: come and go. But when you take that away from
- 24:30Speaker 6: a guy, it's a wake up Cole.
- 24:33Speaker 3: Yeah, I mean not to dwell on it too much.
- 24:36Speaker 4: You would want him to be a team player all
- 24:39Speaker 4: first and foremost, but you also got to understand your standards.
- 24:43Speaker 4: If you believe in something, okay, but there's a limit
- 24:46Speaker 4: on some of these things too as well. It's a
- 24:48Speaker 4: business played for the pirates. Understand some of the moves
- 24:53Speaker 4: they make are not they're bewildering, they're they're confusing.
- 24:57Speaker 3: At times, and yeah, you see it with the Yankees.
- 25:02Speaker 4: They didn't call up Volpi because guess what, they didn't
- 25:05Speaker 4: think he was better than Kabaya or they made the
- 25:07Speaker 4: right decision.
- 25:08Speaker 3: Did they make the rights in here? I don't know.
- 25:11Speaker 4: I haven't watched him all that much, but from seeing
- 25:14Speaker 4: everything else and hearing from everybody else, he was the
- 25:16Speaker 4: better picture. And I guess he's disgruntled and pissed off.
- 25:19Speaker 4: But again, this can only hurt a team too as well,
- 25:22Speaker 4: because this is the issue. Every time you come and
- 25:23Speaker 4: you see him, it's like, oh no, what is he
- 25:25Speaker 4: gonna do. Hopefully this is all taken care of and
- 25:28Speaker 4: they can move forward.
- 25:29Speaker 5: Yeah.
- 25:30Speaker 2: The thing too.
- 25:31Speaker 6: The thing too is young players have to understand, like you,
- 25:34Speaker 6: it's like you said, it's okay to be upset, it's
- 25:36Speaker 6: okay to voice your opinion that you believe you're a
- 25:38Speaker 6: starting pitcher, but an air in judgment like this to
- 25:42Speaker 6: like say, I need to talk to my inner circle.
- 25:45Speaker 6: I'm not pitching on the bullpen, needing to take some
- 25:47Speaker 6: time off to go on the restriculous. This is something
- 25:50Speaker 6: that follows you throughout your career. When you're a young
- 25:53Speaker 6: pitcher and you do believe that you're a starting pitcher,
- 25:55Speaker 6: and you be asked to pitch in the bullpen, you
- 25:57Speaker 6: just do do your job. At the end of six
- 26:00Speaker 6: or at some point when the trade deadline comes down, quietly,
- 26:03Speaker 6: he could probably ask for a trade, but this is
- 26:05Speaker 6: something that's going to prevent other teams from potentially giving
- 26:08Speaker 6: him an opportunity in the future.
- 26:12Speaker 2: Yeah, we'll see what he looks like.
- 26:13Speaker 1: I mean, the best thing you can do now is
- 26:15Speaker 1: you go to the pen, you absolutely shove, put together
- 26:17Speaker 1: five scoreless appearances, and then someone get hurt yet bump
- 26:21Speaker 1: back to the rotation, and then teams can say, Okay,
- 26:23Speaker 1: there's this little blit. We're good, We're back because you
- 26:26Speaker 1: know my thing. KP also was like, yeah, I want
- 26:28Speaker 1: the guy to be competitive. I want him to want
- 26:30Speaker 1: to start. But then ultimately I was like, but he'll
- 26:32Speaker 1: go to the bullpen and do his thing.
- 26:33Speaker 2: And then I was like, oh, I guess.
- 26:34Speaker 1: He's not going to the bullpen at least for a
- 26:36Speaker 1: few days. Here they were having a tough time convincing him.
- 26:39Speaker 2: Okay.
- 26:39Speaker 1: Some other items including for the Pirates, Connor Griffin hits
- 26:43Speaker 1: the injured list and the injury for him is a
- 26:46Speaker 1: right elbow strain. Well, that's not great, and you know
- 26:48Speaker 1: he's been off to a pretty nice start. He's not
- 26:50Speaker 1: you know, blowing the doors open yet offensively and mixed reviews.
- 26:55Speaker 1: On defense, I think he'll be fine sometimes, you know,
- 26:57Speaker 1: defensive run saved out's above average. Those kind of staf
- 27:00Speaker 1: go against each other, like he's good on drs, he's
- 27:02Speaker 1: bad on outs above average. Usually I'm like, okay, he's
- 27:04Speaker 1: also a rooki. You don't even know how to grade
- 27:05Speaker 1: him yet it's fine, base runnings exceptional. So overall this
- 27:08Speaker 1: is a loss.
- 27:09Speaker 2: Ryan A. Hearn does come back, that helps a lot.
- 27:11Speaker 1: He had been a top maybe their top bat, and
- 27:14Speaker 1: he's been awesome for them. So kp thoughts on what
- 27:16Speaker 1: goes down here, and I'll give you one more layer
- 27:18Speaker 1: to consider. He doesn't say this often, so that's why
- 27:20Speaker 1: I'm going to throw this out there. Ken Rosenthal on
- 27:22Speaker 1: fair territory earlier today was like, injuries, they're bad, but he's.
- 27:27Speaker 2: A fresh twenty years old.
- 27:29Speaker 1: If he was going to get a drop of time
- 27:31Speaker 1: off for an injury, that shouldn't hamper him long term.
- 27:35Speaker 1: It's okay, because you don't want him to weigh down
- 27:38Speaker 1: in September when the team might be in a Wildcard race,
- 27:40Speaker 1: and then you're like, ah, damn, are starting shortstops, kind
- 27:42Speaker 1: of running out of gas.
- 27:43Speaker 2: He's never played even close to this many games.
- 27:46Speaker 6: No, I agree with him, and from everything I read,
- 27:48Speaker 6: it's going to be a short ten day il stint.
- 27:52Speaker 6: And I think he makes a good point. Obviously, he's
- 27:55Speaker 6: super young. He's twenty years old. I mean, the high
- 27:57Speaker 6: school season isn't that long. He barely played a long
- 28:01Speaker 6: season in the minor leagues. And even he was in
- 28:04Speaker 6: Toronto last week, and I think they gave him a
- 28:06Speaker 6: day off on Sunday because he struggled on Friday and Saturday.
- 28:11Speaker 6: So yes, he probably has a little bit of a
- 28:14Speaker 6: flare up in his elbow, but this little mental reset,
- 28:16Speaker 6: this little physical reset, I'm sure even with the elbow injury,
- 28:19Speaker 6: he could probably still get in the cage and he
- 28:21Speaker 6: can kind of work on his swing.
- 28:22Speaker 5: But I do agree with him.
- 28:24Speaker 6: You know, it's not something that you necessarily want to do,
- 28:27Speaker 6: but when an injury pops up, I do see his
- 28:30Speaker 6: point in giving him, you know, the ten days off
- 28:32Speaker 6: mentally reset, physically reset, and allow him to stay fresh
- 28:35Speaker 6: throughout the rest of the season.
- 28:38Speaker 2: AJ gave me a line on Blue chew.
- 28:41Speaker 8: Well, do you need help with your love life, Scott, perhaps,

- 29:44Speaker 1: Now let's get to Luis Severino, former teammate of yours,
- 29:48Speaker 1: I think is placing him on the shelf with a
- 29:51Speaker 1: right shoulder strain. So that's not good. So he left
- 29:55Speaker 1: his start the other day after an inning, goes back,
- 29:57Speaker 1: warms up.
- 29:58Speaker 2: No good, not good, No, not good at all.
- 30:03Speaker 4: And you know he's he's usually mister reliable you'll go
- 30:06Speaker 4: after and pitched a long time too. He's just starting
- 30:10Speaker 4: to come and come into his own per se with
- 30:13Speaker 4: the athletics.
- 30:17Speaker 3: Yeah, I mean, injuries suck. I mean, we know the headline.
- 30:20Speaker 3: It's hard.
- 30:21Speaker 4: As you get older, you have to maintain your body.
- 30:23Speaker 4: And even when you maintain it and do all things right,
- 30:26Speaker 4: you could still be that guy that gets injured. You know,
- 30:29Speaker 4: injuries are not afraid or they're not precuous to anybody.
- 30:32Speaker 4: They will go after you and find you. So poor
- 30:35Speaker 4: guy right shoulder strain. You know he's he was thrown fine.
- 30:39Speaker 4: You know, he's a guy that you could rely on
- 30:41Speaker 4: and hopefully this is just a couple of week little
- 30:44Speaker 4: stint and he'll be back fresh, ready to go.
- 30:46Speaker 2: Yeah, he was starting better this year.
- 30:48Speaker 1: He had a lot of trouble getting adjusted to the
- 30:50Speaker 1: minor league facilities that the A's are using during this
- 30:54Speaker 1: stretch here, but was in the low fours on the season,
- 30:57Speaker 1: yet the home road splits were insane for him last
- 30:59Speaker 1: year I remember exactly, but I want to say it
- 31:00Speaker 1: was like three versus six and a half on the
- 31:03Speaker 1: home road split, So so much better, much closer to
- 31:05Speaker 1: what you were seeing a couple of years ago with
- 31:07Speaker 1: the Mets at a three nine to one mark. And
- 31:09Speaker 1: I know he had some injury issues with the Yankees
- 31:11Speaker 1: back in the day, But you're right, Todd Father. I mean,
- 31:13Speaker 1: last year, twenty nine starts. Year before that, thirty one
- 31:15Speaker 1: starts like he had been. He had been racking up
- 31:17Speaker 1: innings for this team.
- 31:18Speaker 2: So KP.
- 31:19Speaker 1: For me, it's like the A's are one of those
- 31:21Speaker 1: teams where you got to have most things at the
- 31:23Speaker 1: margins go your way to be a wildcard club when
- 31:26Speaker 1: you're matching up against the Mariners. And you know, I
- 31:28Speaker 1: put the A's more in the category maybe of the Astros,
- 31:32Speaker 1: maybe even still a tick behind them, even though the
- 31:34Speaker 1: Astros have had a million injuries.
- 31:36Speaker 2: So your thoughts on the A's chances.
- 31:38Speaker 5: Yeah, I mean it's definitely a huge blow.
- 31:40Speaker 6: I mean, they're not a team that has a luxury
- 31:42Speaker 6: of a ton of pitching depth, right and he was
- 31:45Speaker 6: their kind of big ticket item going into that first
- 31:47Speaker 6: season in Sacramento. Yeah, it's a big blow because I
- 31:51Speaker 6: know they're right around five hundred. I know that entire
- 31:54Speaker 6: al West has kind of just been right around five hundred.
- 31:57Speaker 6: So him being out for you know, at least two
- 32:00Speaker 6: or three starts is definitely a big blow for them.
- 32:03Speaker 1: And it looks like we're getting some breaking news here
- 32:05Speaker 1: as we keep running through some injuries. Francis Romeiro reporting
- 32:10Speaker 1: on Twitter that the Reds are planning to bring up
- 32:12Speaker 1: one of their top prospects, Edwin Arroyo, in the coming hours.
- 32:16Speaker 2: He's twenty two.
- 32:17Speaker 1: Years old, Puerto Rican native, a top three prospect on
- 32:20Speaker 1: most publications, and in conjunction, it'll be Ellie de la
- 32:24Speaker 1: Cruz hitting the injured list. So Todd father, he was
- 32:27Speaker 1: having the best start of his career. The hamstring, he
- 32:31Speaker 1: said he felt like he avoided significant damage because he
- 32:34Speaker 1: felt it right away and then kind of stopped and
- 32:36Speaker 1: pulled up and then it was taken out and got
- 32:39Speaker 1: testing today.
- 32:41Speaker 2: But he'll take some time off.
- 32:43Speaker 1: Remember last year he was playing banged up and they
- 32:45Speaker 1: kind of revealed that later in the year. He played
- 32:47Speaker 1: I think all one sixty two, and so again you
- 32:50Speaker 1: don't want Ellie to miss time, but you don't want
- 32:52Speaker 1: Ellie playing at fifty percent the rest of the year either.
- 32:56Speaker 4: No, And like we said, these things linger, and you
- 32:58Speaker 4: have to maintain them each and every day as much
- 33:02Speaker 4: as the paint of and a butt to come in
- 33:04Speaker 4: two hours before you're really supposed to be in with
- 33:06Speaker 4: a trainer, loosening things up, getting a hot tub, stem ice,
- 33:11Speaker 4: move it around, get on the bike, whatever it is,
- 33:13Speaker 4: put some you know, movement into there, get it rubbed out.
- 33:17Speaker 4: The hamstring that is, you know, like making sure everything
- 33:21Speaker 4: is put together and everything's in the right motion. And
- 33:24Speaker 4: for him, I think they need this guy. He's been fantastic.
- 33:28Speaker 4: He's been just on the ball on everything. And you know,
- 33:32Speaker 4: let's see what this young man's got. This is a
- 33:34Speaker 4: royal kid man. I can't wait to see him play.
- 33:38Speaker 1: Hey, let's hit data dish for a couple of stat
- 33:40Speaker 1: segments while the TV crowd is in a little break,
- 33:43Speaker 1: and then we'll come back with Pete Fairbanks.
- 33:46Speaker 2: Let's go to Jacob de Graam. He's pitching a night.
- 33:49Speaker 1: Opponents have a chase percentage of thirty four percent against
- 33:52Speaker 1: the Groam going back to last year's second highest AM
- 33:54Speaker 1: unqualified starters, KP.
- 33:56Speaker 2: I know you just played with them recently.
- 33:57Speaker 1: I feel like we still don't talk about de gram
- 33:59Speaker 1: and and how he's able to still create the swing
- 34:03Speaker 1: and miss. You know, like there's tons of you know,
- 34:06Speaker 1: it's schemes, it's miss, it's schooble, it's all that. Man,
- 34:09Speaker 1: I'm good with the ground pitch in game one of
- 34:11Speaker 1: a playoff series.
- 34:12Speaker 5: For me, I think we take him for granted a
- 34:14Speaker 5: little bit.
- 34:14Speaker 6: And I know he's had some injury history recently that's
- 34:17Speaker 6: kind of derailed what we would have probably considered, you know,
- 34:21Speaker 6: one of the greatest right handed pictures of my generation
- 34:24Speaker 6: and maybe our generation. But you know, it's part of
- 34:28Speaker 6: it's part of the job description. You know, it's very
- 34:30Speaker 6: rare that a starting pitcher, you know, goes without injury,
- 34:33Speaker 6: just especially when you're a guy like Jacob de Grohm,
- 34:35Speaker 6: who throws so darn hard. You know all of his pitches.
- 34:38Speaker 6: But ask any one of these young pitchers, man, Jacob
- 34:42Speaker 6: de grom was probably their role model, their idle in
- 34:45Speaker 6: terms of stuff and you know, pure mechanics and stuff,
- 34:48Speaker 6: and I just think it gets taken for granted a
- 34:49Speaker 6: little bit his greatness and the fact that he's been
- 34:52Speaker 6: able to come back from TJ number two and kind
- 34:55Speaker 6: of hit the ground running. He's just one of those
- 34:56Speaker 6: guys that just still kind of falls under the radar.
- 35:00Speaker 6: Is he the cy young candidate that he once previously was?
- 35:03Speaker 6: But you're talking about a guy that I would want
- 35:06Speaker 6: starting Game one of any postseason series. There's probably only
- 35:08Speaker 6: a handful of starters in the major leagues that I
- 35:10Speaker 6: would take over him right now.
- 35:12Speaker 2: Mm hmm, yeah, yeah.
- 35:15Speaker 3: And just one thing.
- 35:16Speaker 4: Length When he gets on that mound, the length it
- 35:18Speaker 4: seems like from sixty points six inches away.
- 35:21Speaker 3: Or inchest Jesus feet away.
- 35:23Speaker 4: His length makes it that much more closer, and he
- 35:27Speaker 4: gets some run, he gets some tilt, maybe in a
- 35:30Speaker 4: little more extra m font to that ball and rise
- 35:32Speaker 4: And people say, but there's no way a ball can rise.
- 35:35Speaker 3: I've seen it before. It's ridiculous.
- 35:39Speaker 2: A ball cannot rise. Yes, it can. I've seen it.
- 35:42Speaker 3: I've seen Maybe I'm saying things, but I've seen him rise.
- 35:46Speaker 2: That is the effect.
- 35:47Speaker 3: Uh.
- 35:48Speaker 1: One more, I'll mix in Jose Soriano, who I feel
- 35:51Speaker 1: like we talked about a ton at the start of
- 35:52Speaker 1: the year, and I know he's proven a little bit
- 35:54Speaker 1: more human, but still slug percentage of two twenty two
- 35:57Speaker 1: and behind in the count this season is best among
- 35:59Speaker 1: qualified starts. See that's an impressive stat to me too.
- 36:01Speaker 1: You fall behind and you're still preventing damage.
- 36:05Speaker 6: Yeah, I mean we talked about this too a little
- 36:07Speaker 6: bit a couple of times ago when I was on
- 36:09Speaker 6: when he was going on his run of pretty much
- 36:11Speaker 6: being unhittable. But you know when I saw him a
- 36:14Speaker 6: couple of years ago when I was his teammate, you
- 36:15Speaker 6: saw all the potential. But you got to give credit
- 36:18Speaker 6: to Mike Maddox and the adjustments he's made.
- 36:22Speaker 1: Todd Father, what do you have for me? On the
- 36:24Speaker 1: Yankee series from the weekend, they saved all their runs
- 36:27Speaker 1: in that one game for one inning and then they
- 36:30Speaker 1: didn't even They were like, you know, we're good, save
- 36:32Speaker 1: the hits for tomorrow.
- 36:33Speaker 4: After that, that was crazy, And it wasn't like it
- 36:38Speaker 4: was Homer after Homer. It was just here, hit there,
- 36:43Speaker 4: air boom bank thirteen runs. I mean, that's when you're like,
- 36:48Speaker 4: all right, well you got your thirteen runs in that
- 36:51Speaker 4: ending pretty much game over. Let's just and then they
- 36:54Speaker 4: almost came back and made the game close up. Thirteen
- 36:58Speaker 4: eight had thirteen runs, and nah, I guess that's why
- 37:02Speaker 4: there's no ten run rule. But I would love to
- 37:04Speaker 4: see them put the ten run rule after after six
- 37:06Speaker 4: innings in my opinion, But that's just me. That'll never happen.
- 37:10Speaker 4: Maybe it's part of the collective bargain and greement coming up.
- 37:13Speaker 4: But yeah, Now the Yankees, they did well. They look
- 37:16Speaker 4: great on the road. There, did fantastic on the road.
- 37:18Speaker 4: And you know, you thought for a second there there
- 37:21Speaker 4: all of a sudden like, ah, here they go again.
- 37:23Speaker 4: But they just do what they do best, find ways
- 37:26Speaker 4: to win games, and uh, will Warren pitch really well?
- 37:30Speaker 4: And away they go.
- 37:32Speaker 2: Yeah, one and a half games clear of the lead
- 37:34Speaker 2: on the Al East.
- 37:36Speaker 6: I was at a I was at a family family's
- 37:39Speaker 6: house for a kid's birthday party, and I just happened
- 37:42Speaker 6: to turn the TV on. It was the third inning,
- 37:44Speaker 6: it was three to one, and just kind of casually
- 37:47Speaker 6: watching the game, and it like Judge comes up, so
- 37:49Speaker 6: you watch and then he hits this blooper and then
- 37:53Speaker 6: you're kind of like talking and you're seeing the numbers
- 37:55Speaker 6: and the scoreboard go up and there's still no outs,
- 37:57Speaker 6: and then Judge comes up the hit again, and then
- 37:59Speaker 6: you're like, they just score thirteen runs. It was crazy.
- 38:05Speaker 1: Hey, one more shoutout like I did at the top
- 38:07Speaker 1: of the show. How about Ronald Dacunya Junior's home run
- 38:11Speaker 1: Binge Todd Father Four in a row, four games in
- 38:14Speaker 1: a row with at least a homer.
- 38:16Speaker 2: He's got five total during that span.
- 38:19Speaker 1: He didn't wait long yesterday first pitch, so he looks
- 38:23Speaker 1: like he's on quite the heater.
- 38:24Speaker 2: He looks like Ronald Lacuna Junior. Again he does.
- 38:27Speaker 4: He doesn't doutch want. I'm trying to making sure I'm
- 38:30Speaker 4: getting this straight. They played in.
- 38:33Speaker 3: Cincinnati, my favorite ballpark of all time too.
- 38:36Speaker 4: I'm not saying that's why he hit the home runs,
- 38:38Speaker 4: but we understand it's a nice park to hit in.
- 38:41Speaker 4: I've played there for a good amount of years to
- 38:43Speaker 4: understand that. But if ever you want to get hot hot,
- 38:46Speaker 4: get in, get in a stadium like that and just
- 38:48Speaker 4: start flipping balls over. I mean, yeah, his swing path
- 38:51Speaker 4: is beautiful. He's got great hands in and out of
- 38:55Speaker 4: the zone. He comes up real slow and then whack.
- 38:59Speaker 4: Beautiful thing to see. We want this guy to be healthy.
- 39:02Speaker 4: We want this guy to perform. We want to be
- 39:05Speaker 4: talking about him because he's good for baseball. And I
- 39:07Speaker 4: say it all the time. These guys are good for
- 39:09Speaker 4: baseball when they're doing well, when production is high, everything
- 39:13Speaker 4: else is really fun. So for him to get going again,
- 39:16Speaker 4: I mean, the Braves team has been fantastic all year.
- 39:18Speaker 3: Good for him and it's a good sight to see.
- 39:22Speaker 6: Yeah, I got a chance to play with a lot
- 39:23Speaker 6: of great players in my career, but I will sit
- 39:26Speaker 6: here and tell you he's the most talented baseball player
- 39:28Speaker 6: I've ever seen. There's nothing on a baseball field he
- 39:31Speaker 6: can't do. It's just keeping him engaged every single day, defensively, offensively,
- 39:37Speaker 6: on the basis. But when you talk about no ceiling
- 39:41Speaker 6: on what he can do on a baseball field, it's
- 39:43Speaker 6: the most talented player I've ever seen. He can throw
- 39:44Speaker 6: you out from deep brightfield at third base. He can
- 39:47Speaker 6: go out and steal seventy bags. He can go on
- 39:49Speaker 6: streaks like this where he's hitting five homers in four
- 39:51Speaker 6: games like I've never seen anything like it.
- 39:54Speaker 1: Yeah, incredible, And obviously you got him at the right
- 39:57Speaker 1: time in the postseason.
- 39:59Speaker 2: You know he can this team get to a title.
- 40:02Speaker 2: He was not part of that mix.
- 40:03Speaker 1: He was on the roster, of course, but in twenty
- 40:05Speaker 1: one when they won, remember he was out. So this
- 40:08Speaker 1: playoff run, they'll have Acunya to try and make things happen,
- 40:12Speaker 1: you know, have him involved in a playoff run where
- 40:14Speaker 1: they can win a World Series title. The Braves look
- 40:16Speaker 1: like one of the best teams in baseball. They were
- 40:18Speaker 1: the first team to forty wins. They got there on Saturday,
- 40:21Speaker 1: and that home run on that first pitch was from
- 40:24Speaker 1: Lodolo too. I know he hasn't had a great year
- 40:26Speaker 1: when he's been on the mat so far this year,
- 40:28Speaker 1: but that's some of the nastier stuff that you're gonna
- 40:29Speaker 1: get from the left side, and uh Acunya handled it
- 40:33Speaker 1: pretty nicely, very impressing.
- 40:35Speaker 6: I mean, he's so dynamically enough the game like he
- 40:39Speaker 6: makes you kind of think when you were a pitcher
- 40:41Speaker 6: and you're in your pitchers meeting, like do I throw
- 40:43Speaker 6: the first pitch fastball? And then obviously there's this idea
- 40:45Speaker 6: if you don't throw the first pitch fastball, you're almost.
- 40:48Speaker 5: Kind of conceding right there. But he's a game changer.
- 41:04Speaker 1: Hey, did you guys see this from the weekend the
- 41:07Speaker 1: little ABS error, Dallas Braden said, I believe this is
- 41:11Speaker 1: the first ABS operator error. How in the world can
- 41:14Speaker 1: we be asked to accept a clear error? We're gonna
- 41:16Speaker 1: start challenging challenges. How do we just take a take?
- 41:19Speaker 1: How are we justifying taking a challenge away from a
- 41:21Speaker 1: team when it's clear there was an error on the
- 41:22Speaker 1: ABS operator bad form? And you know a lot of
- 41:24Speaker 1: people were like, oh, it's just one time that it happened,
- 41:27Speaker 1: and that is true. I mean, it's not like we're
- 41:29Speaker 1: seeing this very frequently. But also, you know, Dallas was
- 41:34Speaker 1: just calling out. I know it's only one time, but still,
- 41:37Speaker 1: you know, he's like, what if this happened in a
- 41:38Speaker 1: playoff game or one of those big moments. Let me
- 41:41Speaker 1: see the other tweet that he said that I was
- 41:44Speaker 1: pulling up before.
- 41:46Speaker 2: But your thoughts here, guys. While I find that.
- 41:49Speaker 6: Boy, it alls me to wonder how the ABS system works,
- 41:53Speaker 6: Like is there an actual operator where like if the
- 41:56Speaker 6: ball misses the rectangular shrike zone they're inserting ball or strike,
- 42:02Speaker 6: because if that's the air, then it's unacceptable. You would
- 42:05Speaker 6: think that technology would be like if the ball is
- 42:08Speaker 6: inside the box or it is touching the box, then
- 42:10Speaker 6: it would just come up ball or strike. But I
- 42:12Speaker 6: don't really know what the operator means.
- 42:16Speaker 1: I think it malfunctioned from what I know, And so
- 42:18Speaker 1: then they just kind of did like a call stands.
- 42:20Speaker 3: Thing but cannot cannot bottom right.
- 42:26Speaker 2: Yeah, Well, and.
- 42:28Speaker 6: Even if it does happen, even if it does happen
- 42:30Speaker 6: like you said, it's only happened once, it's still new technology,
- 42:33Speaker 6: like they're still getting.
- 42:34Speaker 5: Kind of used to the thing.
- 42:35Speaker 6: But like if it's visually showing up on the scoreboard
- 42:39Speaker 6: in the stadium, like there has to be umpire discretion, Like, Okay,
- 42:43Speaker 6: they said it was a strike, but the ABS system
- 42:45Speaker 6: is clearly telling me it's not in the zone. Like
- 42:48Speaker 6: he should have the ability as a human to like
- 42:50Speaker 6: be like, whoa, I know they're buzzing me and telling
- 42:52Speaker 6: me it's a strike, but really it's a ball. So
- 42:55Speaker 6: I think that maybe something that has to be implemented
- 42:57Speaker 6: into the ABS is there is visually watching the boar too,
- 43:01Speaker 6: and if it comes up wrong, then he goes, wait,
- 43:03Speaker 6: hold on a second, he's got his little microphone and
- 43:06Speaker 6: be like there was an air in the system as
- 43:08Speaker 6: we all see in the stadium.
- 43:09Speaker 5: It didn't touch the box. It's a ball.
- 43:12Speaker 1: So Dallas in the next week said, at the very
- 43:13Speaker 1: least they should have had their challenge returned with the
- 43:15Speaker 1: ability to see there was a mistake made. Imagine a
- 43:18Speaker 1: postseason game with this happens, team losing because of a
- 43:20Speaker 1: glitch or miscommunication, even with evidence to support a cracked call.
- 43:24Speaker 2: He said, because it's made no big deal.
- 43:26Speaker 1: Every pitch in every AB and you know, every game,
- 43:29Speaker 1: all that, right, yeah, spot, yep, yeah.
- 43:34Speaker 6: And I think even beside the ABS system, I think
- 43:37Speaker 6: that's the reason the ABS system was implemented is because
- 43:40Speaker 6: the importance of every pitch in a game.
- 43:42Speaker 5: You know, before we.
- 43:43Speaker 6: Had these rules and regulations to you know, challenge the
- 43:47Speaker 6: authority of an umpire.
- 43:48Speaker 5: That's the reason we brought this in is because you know,
- 43:51Speaker 5: they're humans. They're going to make mistakes. But as Todd.
- 43:54Speaker 6: Knows, when you're hitting, you know, whether it's your first
- 43:57Speaker 6: at bat, your third at bat, the scores a lopsided
- 43:59Speaker 6: one where or another, all these bats matter to us.
- 44:02Speaker 6: So if there was an air and you feel like
- 44:04Speaker 6: it's wrong, we now have the ability to say, hey,
- 44:07Speaker 6: I don't agree with your call.
- 44:08Speaker 5: We're going to challenge it. So it just speaks to
- 44:10Speaker 5: the importance of every call in a Major League.
- 44:12Speaker 1: Baseball game, and just to provide the full context here,
- 44:16Speaker 1: so I could bring it up because I mean, you're
- 44:17Speaker 1: watching a lot of games over the weekend. I didn't
- 44:19Speaker 1: remember the exact situation. It was soderstrump on a pitch
- 44:24Speaker 1: ron wether. Adam Beck ruled a distress and replay. It
- 44:29Speaker 1: was clearly outside of the zone by significant margins about
- 44:32Speaker 1: point eight inches low, but the system appeared to experience
- 44:37Speaker 1: a delay, so his strike call was upheld. So the
- 44:40Speaker 1: usual graphics showing the location never showed up on the
- 44:43Speaker 1: video board even after delay. So it's possible that it
- 44:46Speaker 1: glitched out there in the minor league ballpark, which may
- 44:50Speaker 1: have meant the review process then defaults to the umpire's
- 44:53Speaker 1: call of the original strike one. So again then now
- 44:57Speaker 1: this is me speaking. If that's the case, then you say, hey,
- 45:00Speaker 1: technical glitch, We're gonna revert back. They keep their challenge.
- 45:04Speaker 1: We'll try to fix this in the meantime. In the meantime,
- 45:07Speaker 1: you know, because Marc post game, yeah, Todd Marconte said
- 45:13Speaker 1: the explanation on the field as the umps were told
- 45:14Speaker 1: from the com upstairs that the call was confirmed. Obviously
- 45:18Speaker 1: they didn't have access, so they only have access to
- 45:20Speaker 1: the information told through their earpiece. So that I mean
- 45:24Speaker 1: you can't say they should actually say like, no, call
- 45:27Speaker 1: is not that's not call confirmed, that's technology broken.
- 45:32Speaker 2: Uh just can't challenge that one.
- 45:35Speaker 4: No, exactly, give it back to home there. You tried,
- 45:38Speaker 4: we screwed up here. It is right back there.
- 45:41Speaker 6: Yeah, yeah, now that you mentioned it. I remember seeing
- 45:43Speaker 6: this because I was watching the game where they scored
- 45:45Speaker 6: thirteen runs and I think it was the next inning,
- 45:47Speaker 6: but the sound was off on the TV, and I
- 45:50Speaker 6: remember there being a delay, and then when you brought
- 45:52Speaker 6: this up, I was wondering if this was the same play.
- 45:56Speaker 6: But it seems like a very easy fix. Like the
- 45:59Speaker 6: umpire as a microphone. Now he could just say, hey,
- 46:01Speaker 6: there's a there's a glitch in the system. Call stands
- 46:05Speaker 6: at home plate. No challenge awarded or denied or nothing like.
- 46:09Speaker 5: They remain their challenge.
- 46:11Speaker 2: YEP, I'm with you. Maybe we'll make a segment out
- 46:14Speaker 2: of it tomorrow.
- 46:15Speaker 1: Ken Rosenthal, Matthew Boyd, Aaron Ashby, Dodger's territory hopping on
- 46:20Speaker 1: right now If you want to watch that show on
