- 0:27Speaker 1: I'm Joe Alves, and you're listening to Movie Mountain.
- 0:44Speaker 2: It's showtime.
- 0:46Speaker 3: This episode is rated M for Misty. Yes, that's right,
- 0:49Speaker 3: this is a Misty episode, so it will be laced
- 0:51Speaker 3: with profanity even more than usual. If you're not comfortable
- 0:54Speaker 3: with this level of profanity, perhaps this isn't the episode
- 0:57Speaker 3: for you. But we have many other episodes to choose
- 0:59Speaker 3: from that do not feature Misty, and will probably be
- 1:02Speaker 3: far less offensive. Okay, maybe. That having been said, on
- 1:06Speaker 3: with the show.
- 1:07Speaker 4: Our nuclear reactor pumping out one million kilowatts of power.
- 1:37Speaker 4: to provide more cooling in the containment chambers.
- 1:39Speaker 3: To your stationers, we have a rebound.
- 1:42Speaker 5: One day when I'm rich and famous, I'll have better
- 1:44Speaker 5: things to do than answer people's stupid questions all day long.
- 1:47Speaker 6: Gregory, tell us about your childhood!
- 1:49Speaker 7: Were you always so smart and handsome?
- 2:01Speaker 6: What's up and welcome to Movie Meltdown. I'm Brian. I'm Misty.
- 2:04Speaker 6: And we're coming to you live via digital recording from Wonderfest.
- 2:06Speaker 7: Woo!
- 2:07Speaker 6: Our umpteenth year at Wonderfest.
- 2:09Speaker 7: Vajillions of years.
- 2:11Speaker 6: Holding down the fort like we do.
- 2:14Speaker 8: Fuckin' A.
- 2:15Speaker 9: It's awesome here as usual. We've returned to the family.
- 2:18Speaker 9: I think we're like the bastard stepchildren of the family.
- 2:22Speaker 6: They deal with us. They put up with us. But
- 2:25Speaker 6: sometimes I'm like, there's the cool kids in the family
- 2:28Speaker 6: over there. And then they look over and.
- 2:29Speaker 7: They shunt us over in the corner.
- 2:32Speaker 6: They came back again.
- 2:33Speaker 7: I'm not complaining, though.
- 2:34Speaker 6: I'm not either.
- 2:35Speaker 1: I love Warner Fest.
- 2:36Speaker 7: I like it better over here where there's nobody. I
- 2:39Speaker 7: feel more comfortable over here. If I had to actually
- 2:41Speaker 7: deal with people and like interact. Brian left the table
- 2:44Speaker 7: for a while and my phone immediately came out. I'm like,
- 2:47Speaker 7: who can I call? Who can I talk to? What
- 2:49Speaker 7: can I watch on my phone?
- 2:50Speaker 9: That is not the proper etiquette when dealing with people.
- 2:54Speaker 7: I did talk to people at some point. I expressed
- 2:57Speaker 7: bloody fingertips. And that was it.
- 3:00Speaker 6: Only in the circumstances that not really inappropriate. You were
- 3:04Speaker 6: talking about felting.
- 3:05Speaker 7: Needle felting.
- 3:06Speaker 6: Special felting.
- 3:07Speaker 7: Needle felting.
- 3:08Speaker 6: Extra felting.
- 3:09Speaker 7: Needle felting. Extra stabby pointy make your fingers bleed felting.
- 3:13Speaker 9: Because I brought with us to Wonderfest our, let's see,
- 3:17Speaker 9: according to the sign I made over here, the Movie
- 3:19Speaker 9: Meltdown Tales from the Cryptids Handmade Action Figures.
- 3:23Speaker 6: Which have been rather popular, I must say.
- 3:24Speaker 9: So people were snapping them up. They were from the
- 3:28Speaker 9: Tales from the Cryptids art show that we had. And
- 3:31Speaker 9: I was like, well, let's bring them out here. People
- 3:32Speaker 9: got to love them.
- 3:33Speaker 6: So they've been pretty excited about it.
- 3:36Speaker 7: I know, I said one girl, apparently she had attempted
- 3:38Speaker 7: needle felting at some point in her life too, and
- 3:40Speaker 7: she's like, yeah, the total fair prices, those are not
- 3:44Speaker 7: fun to make. They can be rather stress-relieving when you
- 3:47Speaker 7: sit there and feel like stabbing something repeatedly over and
- 3:50Speaker 7: over and over, which I often do. But then you
- 3:53Speaker 7: end up with blood on everything.
- 3:54Speaker 6: Which I often do.
- 3:56Speaker 1: Exactly.
- 3:57Speaker 9: I was also told I was a genius for this
- 4:00Speaker 9: rigging up version of the banner.
- 4:01Speaker 6: That I've done.
- 4:02Speaker 7: I was like, oh, don't encourage him.
- 4:05Speaker 6: No, no. It's official now. I have my status. I mean,
- 4:09Speaker 6: I don't have to learn anything else, right?
- 4:11Speaker 7: You've reached your pinnacle in life.
- 4:13Speaker 1: Good, I'm a genius.
- 4:14Speaker 7: I'm done. You're apexed. You're there.
- 4:18Speaker 6: Done.
- 4:19Speaker 9: But otherwise, we're just kind of getting rolling here for
- 4:23Speaker 9: the many, many other episodes that will soon be headed
- 4:26Speaker 9: your way, I'm sure. So, in our usual geek activity fashion, Misty,
- 4:31Speaker 9: what have you been watching lately?
- 4:33Speaker 7: Oh my gosh. Well, it's only been like a week
- 4:36Speaker 7: since we recorded anything.
- 4:39Speaker 6: But you forgot them all last time.
- 4:40Speaker 7: I did. I have watched several movies and some of
- 4:43Speaker 7: them I liked and some of them I'm still a
- 4:44Speaker 7: bit confused by and a little bit grossed out by.
- 4:48Speaker 7: I watched Honeymoon. Have you seen anything about Honeymoon?
- 4:51Speaker 1: I think.
- 4:52Speaker 6: You mentioned that there's a gross thing that happens.
- 4:54Speaker 7: There are several gross things that happen.
- 4:56Speaker 6: Before that, I do not think I'd heard anything about Honeymoon.
- 4:59Speaker 7: It's a recently married couple, and they go on their honeymoon.
- 5:03Speaker 7: It's kind of out in the middle of nowhere, and
- 5:06Speaker 7: there's a cabin. Then things start happening, and then it
- 5:11Speaker 7: was really boring up until a point. Until she broke
- 5:14Speaker 7: out the cooking fork, whatever it's called.
- 5:19Speaker 1: What's it called?
- 5:19Speaker 10: Skewer?
- 5:20Speaker 4: Skewer?
- 5:20Speaker 7: That's like a fork with a prong on the end.
- 5:22Speaker 7: A fork? A barbecue fork.
- 5:24Speaker 6: I'm going to call it a fork.
- 5:25Speaker 7: I'm like, honey, that is not where you put a
- 5:27Speaker 7: barbecue fork. Let me tell you that right now.
- 5:30Speaker 6: Well, it depends on what you're up to.
- 5:33Speaker 7: Well, apparently there's an alien. I don't know if I'm
- 5:35Speaker 7: going to ruin it. There are aliens apparently involved.
- 5:37Speaker 6: Potential spoiler alert.
- 5:39Speaker 7: There's potentially aliens. I'm still not sure what the fuck
- 5:41Speaker 7: happened in this movie. You know, it's weird, and then
- 5:44Speaker 7: there's things coming out of places that just stop. The
- 5:48Speaker 7: movie just needed to stop. Like I said, it was
- 5:50Speaker 7: so boring, and then you're just like, okay, stop. I mean,
- 5:52Speaker 7: there's a button on your remote that does that. I know,
- 5:55Speaker 7: but then I was so invested in it. I'm like,
- 5:56Speaker 7: I've already watched this much. If I just stop now,
- 5:58Speaker 7: I'm just a complete quitter. And I'm usually okay with
- 6:00Speaker 7: that in life, but the remote was halfway across the couch.
- 6:03Speaker 9: I'm with you at that, though. I mean, like, usually
- 6:05Speaker 9: if I start a movie... Not counting when I fall
- 6:08Speaker 9: asleep on it. I will finish it because I don't.
- 6:10Speaker 7: Like to bail. Have you ever made it through Cabin Fever?
- 6:12Speaker 7: Not Cabin Fever. Wrong turn? Not.
- 6:15Speaker 6: Totally.
- 6:16Speaker 9: I'm waiting until we get Douche Coup on and then
- 6:18Speaker 9: we can watch it together or something.
- 6:20Speaker 6: She's so cute.
- 6:22Speaker 7: Then I watched In Fear. Have you seen In Fear?
- 6:25Speaker 6: I know the title. I don't think I've seen it.
- 6:27Speaker 6: How recent is this?
- 6:29Speaker 7: Well, in the past couple years.
- 6:30Speaker 1: Okay.
- 6:30Speaker 6: I don't think I've seen it.
- 6:31Speaker 7: I don't know. All I know is I watched it
- 6:33Speaker 7: and it's a big... I'm like, why am I watching this?
- 6:35Speaker 7: It's kind of slow. Again, and it has, the ending
- 6:39Speaker 7: was kind of okay, but it had that one guy
- 6:42Speaker 7: from The Fades. Have you seen The Fades? It's another
- 6:45Speaker 7: BBC show.
- 6:46Speaker 9: Again, I remember you telling me about it. I have
- 6:48Speaker 9: to base everything around Misty stories.
- 6:50Speaker 7: Exactly. Well, it's about this, they've recently met, I guess,
- 6:53Speaker 7: and they're going to go on this road trip to
- 6:55Speaker 7: a concert festival maybe or something. It's been a couple
- 6:58Speaker 7: months since I watched this. It's been a couple months
- 7:00Speaker 7: since I've done the podcast regularly, so I'm trying to backtrack.
- 7:02Speaker 7: I don't remember what the hell I watched. Anyways, they
- 7:04Speaker 7: go on this road trip to go somewhere, and they
- 7:07Speaker 7: end up getting lost. They're trying to find this hotel.
- 7:10Speaker 7: And they end up in this woods, and it's very maze-like,
- 7:12Speaker 7: and they can't get their way out. And somebody starts
- 7:14Speaker 7: fucking with their shit.
- 7:15Speaker 6: Don't you hate when that happens?
- 7:17Speaker 7: There is a whole bunch of shitfuckery going on in there.
- 7:20Speaker 7: And then there's the end.
- 7:21Speaker 6: The end.
- 7:23Speaker 7: It was okay. I liked it. It wasn't fantastic.
- 7:26Speaker 6: I stole one of your other stories the other day.
- 7:28Speaker 6: Which one? Someone was telling about... possibly just going to
- 7:31Speaker 6: have to.
- 7:32Speaker 9: They were going on a road trip, but they didn't
- 7:33Speaker 9: know for sure where they were going to stay, so
- 7:35Speaker 9: they might just end up staying at some sort of
- 7:37Speaker 9: roadside motel.
- 7:39Speaker 6: So then I had to go in here. Wasn't the
- 7:42Speaker 6: Texas the guy with the machete?
- 7:45Speaker 7: No, that was in Memphis.
- 7:46Speaker 1: Memphis?
- 7:47Speaker 7: That was me, Mom, and Jesse. We were right across
- 7:51Speaker 7: from Graceland.
- 7:53Speaker 6: Okay, that part doesn't surprise me anymore.
- 7:56Speaker 7: We were in Memphis, and we were walking out of
- 7:57Speaker 7: the hotel, and there was this guy out there. I
- 7:59Speaker 7: don't even remember what he was doing. It's been years,
- 8:01Speaker 7: but there was some machete action in it, and I
- 8:03Speaker 7: was just like, we're gonna die.
- 8:04Speaker 6: I thought it was sharpening machetes.
- 8:06Speaker 7: I don't, either way, we're gonna die. This guy sharpened
- 8:08Speaker 7: his machete outside of our hotel room, right next to
- 8:10Speaker 7: the ukulele-shaped pool. I'm like, oh god, we're gonna die,
- 8:14Speaker 7: and I'm gonna die next to a ukulele-shaped pool. I'm
- 8:17Speaker 7: sure it's supposed to be a guitar, but this is
- 8:18Speaker 7: like the Days Inn down the street from Graceland, so
- 8:21Speaker 7: it's not like the fanciness, so it's like, more like
- 8:24Speaker 7: a ukulele.
- 8:25Speaker 9: Yeah, I mean, it's so cliche at that point, like,
- 8:29Speaker 9: A guy sharpening a machete outside of your cheesy motel
- 8:32Speaker 9: window seems like a scene out of Cabin in the Woods.
- 8:34Speaker 6: Like, it's so on the nose, it's probably fake, right?
- 8:37Speaker 6: I mean, that's kind of how I feel.
- 8:40Speaker 7: I'm sure there's some other explanation for it. I'm sure
- 8:42Speaker 7: there's some Tucker and Dale. He's doing something good over there.
- 8:45Speaker 7: He's going to go save kids from a fire, and
- 8:48Speaker 7: he needs to sharpen a machete to do so.
- 8:50Speaker 6: But I don't know.
- 8:51Speaker 7: I watched Housebound.
- 8:55Speaker 6: I've seen that. It's on the streamings, I believe.
- 8:58Speaker 7: So you have seen that?
- 8:59Speaker 6: No, I've seen it listed in our usual scan, scan. Hmm,
- 9:03Speaker 6: maybe I'll watch that scan, scan. Nah, not right now.
- 9:07Speaker 7: It was an odd one.
- 9:08Speaker 11: Alright.
- 9:08Speaker 7: That's all I got for that one. It's an odd one.
- 9:12Speaker 1: Was it.
- 9:14Speaker 6: I won't even go so far as good. Are you
- 9:16Speaker 6: okay with the fact that you watched it?
- 9:18Speaker 7: I'm okay with the fact that I watched it. I
- 9:19Speaker 7: don't feel like I'm pissed off. I don't want to
- 9:21Speaker 7: punch the movie in the face for it having existed.
- 9:23Speaker 6: That is a standard level in your review system.
- 9:27Speaker 7: Well, because the basic thing is a girl, she's kind
- 9:30Speaker 7: of a delinquent, but she's like older, not like older,
- 9:33Speaker 7: but like an adult. Her punishment is to be sent
- 9:36Speaker 7: back home to live with her parents. That's why she's
- 9:38Speaker 7: got house arrest.
- 9:39Speaker 6: Sounds like a sitcom.
- 9:41Speaker 7: Well, anyways, her mom's pretty sure the house is haunted.
- 9:46Speaker 7: So these things are happening all wonky, and then you
- 9:48Speaker 7: find out, holy shit, what's really going on. And you're like, oh, okay.
- 9:52Speaker 10: Didn't see that.
- 9:53Speaker 7: One, I guess. Not bad. I liked it. I would
- 9:57Speaker 7: i would give it a thumb and a half up
- 9:59Speaker 7: not even like a half a thumb yeah a nub
- 10:02Speaker 7: like a tragic marine time accident thumb.
- 10:07Speaker 9: A tragic needle felting accident that left you with a
- 10:10Speaker 9: bloody nub.
- 10:11Speaker 7: No shit dude just hardcore but uh I'm sure I
- 10:17Speaker 7: watched other things. Since we recorded last, I've been watching
- 10:20Speaker 7: more Top Gear.
- 10:21Speaker 3: Of course.
- 10:22Speaker 6: And I can't help it.
- 10:23Speaker 7: I'm like addicted to this show. I never would have
- 10:24Speaker 7: saw that coming.
- 10:25Speaker 6: You have a problem. I do.
- 10:26Speaker 7: And it's a problem is that I have the biggest
- 10:29Speaker 7: crush on the guys on the show.
- 10:31Speaker 6: And he's British.
- 10:32Speaker 7: He's very British.
- 10:33Speaker 6: But he's adorably British. Long time Misty fans will know
- 10:35Speaker 6: it's a weird time in the world today.
- 10:38Speaker 1: It is.
- 10:38Speaker 7: There have been such evolutions. But he's adorably British. And
- 10:41Speaker 7: he's like, He's the small one, not like the big
- 10:44Speaker 7: tall one or the weird one or the really jackass-y one.
- 10:47Speaker 7: He's the smaller one. Richard Hammond. I am so smitten
- 10:50Speaker 7: with him.
- 10:50Speaker 6: It's ridiculous.
- 10:51Speaker 7: But it's good because it works out for me and Boyfriend.
- 10:53Speaker 7: Boyfriend likes cars and watching all that stuff. And I'll
- 10:56Speaker 7: just sit and watch Richard Hammond for hours. I don't
- 10:58Speaker 7: even care.
- 10:59Speaker 9: You found your couple activity now.
- 11:01Speaker 7: I know, right? But I'm not even sure that it's
- 11:03Speaker 7: so much that I like him, but that he reminds
- 11:05Speaker 7: me of another actor that I had a crush on.
- 11:07Speaker 7: Because he seemed like he could be the dad of C.J.
- 11:11Speaker 7: Thomason who was on... Harper's Island, because I fucking love
- 11:16Speaker 7: Harper's Island, even though I'm pretty sure I'm the only
- 11:18Speaker 7: person who probably watched Harper's Island.
- 11:21Speaker 6: The tangled web of Misty Brain.
- 11:25Speaker 7: I showed you a picture. Does he not look like
- 11:26Speaker 7: he could be the father of.
- 11:27Speaker 9: He might possibly be related.
- 11:30Speaker 7: I had to look it up just to make sure.
- 11:32Speaker 7: But he's not. But I could watch that show forever. Anyways,
- 11:35Speaker 7: Harper's Island. Which I've watched two or three times. I
- 11:39Speaker 7: gave that two thumbs up, too. But, Top Gear. That's
- 11:42Speaker 7: my show now. That's my jam.
- 11:44Speaker 9: So one of the few things I came across, I
- 11:47Speaker 9: won't even say watch because I don't actively watch movies
- 11:51Speaker 9: on regular television. But this came on while I was
- 11:54Speaker 9: doing something else. I was probably in the middle of
- 11:56Speaker 9: editing another episode. And it came on and I just
- 11:59Speaker 9: didn't change the channel. And then I ended up kind
- 12:02Speaker 9: of watching it. I don't know if I've seen it
- 12:04Speaker 9: since the initial run when probably you and I watched it.
- 12:08Speaker 9: I still know what you did last summer.
- 12:11Speaker 7: Ooh, I haven't.
- 12:13Speaker 6: Now, do you remember much about that one?
- 12:15Speaker 7: I do not, but it's weird because maybe two weeks ago,
- 12:18Speaker 7: I watched I Know What You Did Last Summer. I
- 12:21Speaker 7: totally forgot about that.
- 12:22Speaker 9: I feel like I've seen that one once or twice since,
- 12:24Speaker 9: but still, I do not think I've seen since I.
- 12:27Speaker 6: Watched it, that first one.
- 12:28Speaker 7: I will always know what.
- 12:29Speaker 1: You did last summer.
- 12:30Speaker 6: I'm going to always remember what happened that last time
- 12:32Speaker 6: I saw you last summer.
- 12:34Speaker 7: I don't remember the second one at all. I know
- 12:35Speaker 7: that it didn't have brandy in that one.
- 12:37Speaker 9: Brandy's in the second, yes. But there's someone else, and
- 12:41Speaker 9: that was really going to be my point. That was
- 12:42Speaker 9: the only thing I kind of took from it, because
- 12:45Speaker 9: I watched it... Okay, wait, there's two points, which then
- 12:48Speaker 9: become three points. Number one, in the middle of it,
- 12:51Speaker 9: as a.
- 12:52Speaker 6: I would say not.
- 12:54Speaker 9: Normally I would say unrecognizable, but he's always recognizable. Do
- 12:57Speaker 9: you remember Jack Black being in it?
- 13:00Speaker 7: I do not recall that.
- 13:01Speaker 6: Because at that point, nobody knew who Jack Black was.
- 13:03Speaker 6: But if you go back and look through.
- 13:04Speaker 9: His listing, he's in like like he did so many
- 13:08Speaker 9: things over the years and i guess only people who
- 13:10Speaker 9: watched airborne really remembered him from anything that early on
- 13:14Speaker 9: but he's a like dread wearing he's the dude that
- 13:19Speaker 9: tries to sell him weed basically which i suppose shouldn't
- 13:23Speaker 9: be a.
- 13:23Speaker 6: Surprise to your jack black fans.
- 13:25Speaker 9: Out there but that was sort of the role he
- 13:27Speaker 9: was playing he was the white guy with dreads trying
- 13:30Speaker 9: to deal weed to the people coming.
- 13:32Speaker 7: To the island yeah i thankfully have no recollection of
- 13:34Speaker 7: that whatsoever I don't remember any of that movie.
- 13:37Speaker 6: It's very silly.
- 13:39Speaker 7: They go to an island, don't they?
- 13:41Speaker 6: But here's the other thing I was going to say.
- 13:43Speaker 6: The other point. Literally. So we know who the star
- 13:49Speaker 6: of that first movie is, right?
- 13:50Speaker 7: Jennifer Love You, It's Boobs.
- 13:51Speaker 9: Well, they obviously learned their lesson because I think even
- 13:55Speaker 9: more so.
- 13:56Speaker 6: Like, I feel like at least that first one, it's
- 13:58Speaker 6: only like the I'm right here, you know, kind of scene.
- 14:00Speaker 8: What are you waiting for? Come and get me.
- 14:02Speaker 7: I don't remember how it goes.
- 14:03Speaker 8: But.
- 14:04Speaker 6: This one, like, midway in, they're on an island.
- 14:08Speaker 7: She what?
- 14:09Speaker 9: Well, no, they're, like, she gets locked. You might remember.
- 14:12Speaker 9: At one point, she gets locked into, like, the tanning
- 14:14Speaker 9: booth thing.
- 14:15Speaker 6: Like, he, like, zip ties her into the tanning booth.
- 14:17Speaker 7: I don't remember this.
- 14:17Speaker 9: Which I don't know if that would kill you. Like,
- 14:19Speaker 9: she starts freaking out. And they almost immediately bust her out.
- 14:22Speaker 9: I'm like, I don't think that would have killed you yet. Like,
- 14:24Speaker 9: hours maybe.
- 14:25Speaker 7: No, according to Final Destination movies. Oh, Lord.
- 14:27Speaker 6: It fries you in Final Destination.
- 14:29Speaker 1: But.
- 14:30Speaker 7: And she busts out of that. Is there a slushie involved?
- 14:33Speaker 7: Like a big gulp?
- 14:34Speaker 6: Most things involve a slushie, right?
- 14:36Speaker 9: As they bust her out, though, she really never puts
- 14:39Speaker 9: a shirt on after that.
- 14:41Speaker 6: So it's just her bikini top.
- 14:43Speaker 7: This is the highlight of her career.
- 14:45Speaker 9: Not really complaining. I'm just making an observation. And I
- 14:48Speaker 9: made a lot of them as that movie continued on.
- 14:51Speaker 9: She kind of puts like a shirt over it, but
- 14:53Speaker 9: she never bothers to button it.
- 14:55Speaker 6: The whole rest of the movie.
- 14:56Speaker 1: And I'm like, okay.
- 14:57Speaker 7: More important things to worry about.
- 14:58Speaker 9: I know you're running away from that dude about to
- 15:00Speaker 9: kill you, but you're trying to not get a hook
- 15:03Speaker 9: in you, but just for a second.
- 15:05Speaker 6: When you pause, you can cover those up. Nah, I
- 15:08Speaker 6: didn't have a problem with the fact that she didn't.
- 15:09Speaker 9: I'm just saying, as most girls go, that you'd probably
- 15:12Speaker 9: just go ahead and immediately button your shirt when you
- 15:15Speaker 9: got to a stopping point of not getting killed.
- 15:18Speaker 6: That does not happen in this movie.
- 15:20Speaker 7: Do you remember, did you watch the third one?
- 15:22Speaker 6: I still don't know. You told me it crosses into
- 15:24Speaker 6: these Fantasyland.
- 15:27Speaker 7: Yeah, where it becomes more of a, he's not really real.
- 15:29Speaker 7: He's kind of like a ghost specter thing or whatever.
- 15:32Speaker 7: That one was fucking stupid.
- 15:34Speaker 6: It was like an episode of Scooby-Doo.
- 15:36Speaker 7: I kept waiting for it. I would have got away
- 15:38Speaker 7: with it too if it wasn't for you rascally kids.
- 15:40Speaker 6: They are kind of the Scooby gang. I mean, they've
- 15:41Speaker 6: got Fred right there.
- 15:42Speaker 9: In the middle of this one, he comes running in
- 15:44Speaker 9: and he buys a gun.
- 15:45Speaker 7: Well, Daphne died in the first one.
- 15:48Speaker 6: Yeah, they had Fred and Daphne.
- 15:50Speaker 7: What the hell?
- 15:51Speaker 6: This really is the Scooby gang.
- 15:53Speaker 9: So, yeah, that was my take on it. Number one,
- 15:55Speaker 9: I had no recollection that Jack Black was in it.
- 15:58Speaker 9: And we know who the star of the movie is.
- 16:00Speaker 6: And it ain't Brandy.
- 16:02Speaker 7: Moesha.
- 16:03Speaker 6: Moesha, Moesha, Moesha.
- 16:04Speaker 7: Good times. I want to go see if I can
- 16:08Speaker 7: bust into Greg Nicotaro's room and see if Top Gear
- 16:11Speaker 7: is on.
- 16:12Speaker 6: Yeah, that's probably not how most of these fan interactions go.
- 16:16Speaker 6: If they're trying to bust into the celebrity's room.
- 16:17Speaker 7: Will you let me into your room and let me
- 16:18Speaker 7: watch Top.
- 16:19Speaker 11: Gear, please?
- 16:19Speaker 6: It's probably not to watch Top Gear. Once again, you're
- 16:22Speaker 6: very special.
- 16:23Speaker 7: I'm okay with that. Because his room is right across
- 16:26Speaker 7: from where our table is. If I had brought boyfriend's
- 16:30Speaker 7: lockpicking kit, I probably could have broke in there in
- 16:32Speaker 7: five to six hours.
- 16:34Speaker 9: We can just ask him when he comes over here,
- 16:36Speaker 9: and he might just let you go in the room.
- 16:38Speaker 9: He's got stuff to do, so while he's doing his talk,
- 16:41Speaker 9: you can go in there and watch Top Keep.
- 16:43Speaker 7: Dude, I don't want to go through your zombie shit.
- 16:45Speaker 7: I just want to sit and watch Richard Hammond. There's
- 16:47Speaker 7: nothing wrong with that. Leave me alone. We watched the
- 16:52Speaker 7: Burma episode this weekend. He wore those little jean cut-off shorts.
- 16:56Speaker 7: It was so sexy. I'm not even going to lie.
- 16:58Speaker 7: Jorts have never been so hot.
- 17:00Speaker 6: You're very special.
- 17:01Speaker 7: I know. Jorts and a wife beater.
- 17:04Speaker 6: Very special.
- 17:05Speaker 7: A dirty wife beater, too. It was all gross. That
- 17:09Speaker 7: guy's wearing Crocs and socks.
- 17:11Speaker 6: That's the most horrifying thing we've seen. Sarah Karloff. Previous
- 17:16Speaker 6: guest on Movie Meltdown, Sarah Karloff, just wandered by.
- 17:22Speaker 7: Dude is talking a little special.
- 17:23Speaker 6: If you talk to him, he will never go.
- 17:26Speaker 7: What if I don't make eye contact?
- 17:29Speaker 9: So it was right here in this very building at
- 17:32Speaker 9: this very convention years ago that special character over there
- 17:36Speaker 9: who was nerding out just a minute ago was shut
- 17:40Speaker 9: down by Joanna Cassidy.
- 17:41Speaker 7: What did she say?
- 17:42Speaker 9: She basically told him, like again, we've been in many
- 17:45Speaker 9: a situation with geek type peoples. I'm sure you all
- 17:49Speaker 9: out there have had the same situation where there's somebody
- 17:51Speaker 9: that's like a level or two above where your normal
- 17:55Speaker 9: geek level is and where your comfort zone with you
- 17:57Speaker 9: know interacting with people is i have zero comfort zone
- 17:59Speaker 9: interacting with people and this guy is about 14 levels
- 18:03Speaker 9: above that but i mean.
- 18:04Speaker 6: He's he's kind of special so it's okay i mean
- 18:07Speaker 6: you want to you want to go along.
- 18:08Speaker 9: With it but there's there gets a point where like
- 18:12Speaker 9: it goes too far and like we're in the middle
- 18:14Speaker 9: of doing our interview and like he like he would
- 18:17Speaker 9: not stop he was like two feet away and would
- 18:19Speaker 9: not stop talking and kept talking really loud. And at
- 18:23Speaker 9: one point she's like, excuse me. He gets up and
- 18:25Speaker 9: goes over and like, has a talk with me. And
- 18:28Speaker 9: I'm like, oh, you're awesome. I was like, you may
- 18:32Speaker 9: be my favorite person I've interviewed.
- 18:34Speaker 7: Did she make him cry?
- 18:36Speaker 8: Almost.
- 18:36Speaker 9: I don't think he fully did, but like, she just
- 18:38Speaker 9: shut him down. She's like, hey, I don't even know
- 18:41Speaker 9: if I could hear what she said. It's probably a
- 18:42Speaker 9: little scarier because it was quiet because it was just like,
- 18:46Speaker 9: and then he stopped. And I'm like, oh, I don't
- 18:49Speaker 9: know what she just said. I'm like, you do not
- 18:52Speaker 9: mess with Joanna Kasem. So, message for all of you.
- 18:56Speaker 6: I made Boyfriend watch it. Yes, it's awesome.
- 18:58Speaker 7: Who framed Roger Rabbit?
- 18:59Speaker 6: Yes, that's also awesome. She's in many awesome movies. Those
- 19:02Speaker 6: two are pretty amazing.
- 19:04Speaker 7: I love that movie.
- 19:05Speaker 1: I don't even.
- 19:06Speaker 7: That movie has held up better than just about any
- 19:08Speaker 7: movie from that time frame. Because that movie is still
- 19:11Speaker 7: amazing by today's standards.
- 19:13Speaker 6: As far as just animation?
- 19:15Speaker 7: It's the way it fits together.
- 19:16Speaker 6: It's pretty impressive.
- 19:17Speaker 7: I mean, movies today, I'm like, that looks like shit.
- 19:20Speaker 7: That movie... When did that come out? 87?
- 19:23Speaker 6: 87?
- 19:23Speaker 7: That movie is fucking amazing. I could watch it today
- 19:26Speaker 7: and be like, this movie is amazing. How did they
- 19:29Speaker 7: do this? It's fucking magic.
- 19:31Speaker 6: It is pretty impressive.
- 19:32Speaker 7: I mean, I've seen movies that are made more recently
- 19:34Speaker 7: where they try to blend in. I'm like, this is just, no,
- 19:36Speaker 7: just stop it.
- 19:38Speaker 9: It doesn't look as good most of the time. So
- 19:41Speaker 9: I don't know what Touchstone did that was so magical.
- 19:44Speaker 9: but it's pretty amazing.
- 19:45Speaker 7: It's a classic. Probably one of the top ten most
- 19:49Speaker 7: perfect movies. That shoe-dipping scene is still traumatizing.
- 19:53Speaker 6: Yeah, I don't like to think about that one.
- 19:55Speaker 7: Because he was in pain.
- 19:57Speaker 6: Yeah, I don't like to think about that one.
- 20:01Speaker 9: It's in my never-ending story file of movie scenes that
- 20:04Speaker 9: traumatize me and I do not need to return to.
- 20:06Speaker 7: Swamps of sadness.
- 20:07Speaker 6: It's not cool, and I don't like to think about it.
- 20:11Speaker 7: The Gmork. Oh, the Gmork's so fucking terrifying.
- 20:14Speaker 3: I love him.
- 20:15Speaker 6: He's my favorite part of the whole movie. And it's
- 20:18Speaker 6: an awesome movie, but he's my favorite part.
- 20:21Speaker 9: So, I think we should go convince that Greg Nicotero
- 20:24Speaker 9: character to talk to us right now.
- 20:28Speaker 7: Good luck with that.
- 20:29Speaker 1: Oh, man.
- 20:30Speaker 6: You're not going to help? You're just going to wait
- 20:31Speaker 6: until I get talking to him and then go watch
- 20:33Speaker 6: Top Gear. I know what you're up to.
- 20:34Speaker 4: I know.
- 20:35Speaker 7: I totally would.
- 20:36Speaker 6: All part of your devious plan.
- 20:37Speaker 7: I could get it on my... I'll probably watch it
- 20:39Speaker 7: on my phone or I'll just sit here and look
- 20:40Speaker 7: up miscellaneous pictures because I have some saved.
- 20:44Speaker 9: You look up miscellaneous pictures from your Top Gear dude
- 20:46Speaker 9: and we'll go talk to Greg Nicotero.
- 20:48Speaker 7: Any dreamy?
- 20:50Speaker 6: Greg Nicotero, yes.
- 20:58Speaker 13: The cover is blown Familiar and strange You quoted a
- 21:10Speaker 13: film Only.
- 21:13Speaker 8: Just rearranged.
- 21:16Speaker 14: You drank the champagne You opened the doors With slighter hands.
- 21:26Speaker 8: But I was never yours. I see it through the magic.
- 21:32Speaker 8: And the views getting fewer.
- 21:34Speaker 15: Smile realistic through the smoke and the mirrors.
- 21:38Speaker 8: My eyes look for my brand new chance.
- 21:40Speaker 16: Never gonna fall for your special effects.
- 21:44Speaker 8: It's magic. And the views getting fewer. Smile realistic through
- 21:49Speaker 8: the smoke and the mirrors.
- 21:51Speaker 14: My eyes look for my brand new chance. Never gonna
- 21:55Speaker 14: fall Special effects. Special effects.
- 22:09Speaker 2: Drive away your worries and cares at this drive-in theater
- 22:14Speaker 2: where you will see the finest motion pictures of all
- 22:17Speaker 2: time soon to be released.
- 22:18Speaker 4: Drama.
- 22:20Speaker 2: Comedy, adventure, excitement, something for everyone. Here's a brief glimpse
- 22:26Speaker 2: of some of the truly fine pictures we've scheduled in
- 22:29Speaker 2: the near future.
- 22:33Speaker 11: George Romero's sensational new film, Zombies, brings you face to
- 22:38Speaker 11: face with the dawn of the dead.
- 22:42Speaker 1: They are multiplying too rapidly. We've got to survive. Somebody's
- 22:46Speaker 1: got to survive.
- 22:48Speaker 2: Zombies.
- 22:49Speaker 11: Certificate X. In the West End now and all over
- 22:52Speaker 11: London from Sunday.
- 23:15Speaker 5: All right, so we're here with Greg and Jotaro.
- 23:29Speaker 9: I guess I usually start early. I think I know
- 23:32Speaker 9: what your main movie that scarred you for life was.
- 23:35Speaker 9: Was there something earlier, I guess, before... the shark crept
- 23:39Speaker 9: into your life?
- 23:40Speaker 1: Yeah, there was actually. There was a movie called Horrors
- 23:46Speaker 1: of the Wax Museum. And it was like, I think
- 23:49Speaker 1: it was a Samuel Arkhoff movie, I want to say.
- 23:52Speaker 1: And I went to the theater to see it and
- 23:56Speaker 1: it was basically a remake of House of Wax. It
- 23:58Speaker 1: was like the rip-off of House of Wax. And there
- 24:01Speaker 1: was one scene where there was a guy in this haunted,
- 24:04Speaker 1: in this wax museum and Jack the Ripper turned and
- 24:07Speaker 1: looked at it and started approaching him and it scared
- 24:10Speaker 1: the piss out of me. So much so that my
- 24:15Speaker 1: standard when I was a kid was I would take
- 24:17Speaker 1: a book off my shelf and just read it over
- 24:19Speaker 1: and over again until I could fall asleep because I
- 24:21Speaker 1: would scare myself so much I couldn't sleep.
- 24:23Speaker 6: You're distracting your brain to go to sleep.
- 24:25Speaker 1: Yes, yes. Tricking my brain to, yeah. And it worked
- 24:29Speaker 1: for a time.
- 24:30Speaker 9: It's pretty advanced for a child. Psychology kicking in already.
- 24:35Speaker 11: Yeah.
- 24:35Speaker 10: Yeah.
- 24:37Speaker 6: Well, then I guess how old were you when you
- 24:38Speaker 6: saw Jaws?
- 24:40Speaker 1: I saw Jaws the second day it was in the theaters.
- 24:43Speaker 1: My parents were big, big movie buffs, huge movie buffs.
- 24:48Speaker 1: So I remember seeing Planet of the Apes in the theater.
- 24:51Speaker 1: I saw From Russia with Love in the theater. My parents, like,
- 24:54Speaker 1: any time it was a movie, they're like, come on,
- 24:55Speaker 1: we're taking the kids. That's awesome. And if I remember,
- 24:59Speaker 1: it came out June 20th, 1975, and I think my
- 25:01Speaker 1: parents went opening night to, to see it. And then
- 25:06Speaker 1: the next night they took us.
- 25:09Speaker 6: This is going to scar millions of children.
- 25:12Speaker 1: I think we should take ours. I was 13. Um,
- 25:16Speaker 1: and the two of the funniest things that I'll never
- 25:19Speaker 1: forget was I closed my eyes when they find Chrissy's
- 25:23Speaker 1: remains on the beach.
- 25:23Speaker 8: Yeah.
- 25:24Speaker 1: And it took me probably 11 viewings till I actually
- 25:28Speaker 1: had the nerve to look at it.
- 25:30Speaker 6: Is that all theater?
- 25:31Speaker 1: Yes. Wow. Yes. And, uh, Because I read the book.
- 25:37Speaker 1: And in the book, they describe what it looks like.
- 25:40Speaker 1: So I built this vision in my head of what
- 25:42Speaker 1: it looks like. So I was terrified. And then two
- 25:46Speaker 1: other things. I missed Ben Gardner's head popping out of
- 25:49Speaker 1: the boat. The big scare. At that one second, I
- 25:53Speaker 1: happened to turn away from the screen for two seconds.
- 25:57Speaker 1: I don't even remember why. And then I remember seeing
- 26:00Speaker 1: everybody's heads in the movie theater just rock back. And
- 26:04Speaker 1: I was like, what happened? What happened? I missed it.
- 26:07Speaker 1: And then, of course, at the end when Quentin was
- 26:08Speaker 1: getting eaten, my mom tried to cover my eyes. So,
- 26:13Speaker 1: I mean, at that point, everything else had gone.
- 26:15Speaker 6: It's a little late, Mom.
- 26:16Speaker 1: And she was trying to cover my eyes so that
- 26:19Speaker 1: I couldn't see it. But I think in that summer...
- 26:23Speaker 1: I think I probably saw it 15 times just in
- 26:26Speaker 1: the first month or so.
- 26:29Speaker 9: And that was just as fandom? Or were you already
- 26:32Speaker 9: building in your head, like, this is cool. Somebody made this.
- 26:36Speaker 6: Did it start clicking yet?
- 26:38Speaker 2: Both.
- 26:39Speaker 1: And I think what was most interesting about it was
- 26:42Speaker 1: I remember standing in the lobby. It was the Gateway
- 26:46Speaker 1: Theater in downtown Pittsburgh. And looking at the lobby cards,
- 26:49Speaker 1: and there was the one lobby card of.
- 26:52Speaker 1: Richard Dreyfuss in the cage with the shark going by.
- 26:55Speaker 1: And I remember looking at that and thinking in my head, like, wow,
- 26:58Speaker 1: that thing is huge. How did they do that? And then,
- 27:02Speaker 1: of course, the next week, it was Time Magazine had
- 27:05Speaker 1: that big, gigantic article about Jaws. And it was like
- 27:10Speaker 1: Summer of the Shark. And they had pictures of the
- 27:13Speaker 1: mechanical shark in the dry dock. And they talked a
- 27:17Speaker 1: little bit about how it was made. And that just
- 27:20Speaker 1: fascinated me. to no end, that somebody built a giant
- 27:24Speaker 1: shark and they put it in the ocean and it
- 27:27Speaker 1: just scared the fucking shit out of me so perfectly.
- 27:32Speaker 1: I was always interested in special effects and I think
- 27:38Speaker 1: up to Jaws, I was sort of leaning towards miniatures.
- 27:42Speaker 1: I loved Poseidon Adventure and the Towering Inferno and all
- 27:45Speaker 1: the Irwin Allen things because they all had really cool miniatures.
- 27:48Speaker 1: You could blow up little buildings. You could blow shit up, yeah.
- 27:51Speaker 1: So aside from the Universal monster movies and stuff, I
- 27:55Speaker 1: was really into, like, even Star Trek and Lost in
- 27:58Speaker 1: Space and Land of the Giants. I loved the hardware.
- 28:00Speaker 1: I loved the spaceships, and I loved all that stuff.
- 28:02Speaker 1: So Jaws was one of those things where all of
- 28:05Speaker 1: a sudden I was like, ooh, this world of special
- 28:08Speaker 1: effects is kind of intriguing to me because it's not
- 28:11Speaker 1: just about makeup or it's not just about miniatures, but
- 28:14Speaker 1: it's about, like, building. And that really sort of opened
- 28:18Speaker 1: up kind of opened the world for me a little
- 28:20Speaker 1: bit and it wasn't until dawn of the dead uh
- 28:23Speaker 1: and friday the 13th and tom savini that it kind
- 28:26Speaker 1: of everything shifted now to like okay that's all cool
- 28:30Speaker 1: and that's all great stuff and i want to blow
- 28:31Speaker 1: shit up and i want to make a giant shark
- 28:33Speaker 1: but seeing dawn of the dead and that just i
- 28:36Speaker 1: went okay that's that's it that stuff's cool but that's.
- 28:40Speaker 9: Really To jump ahead a little, I'm assuming now you're
- 28:43Speaker 9: familiar with Joe Alves?
- 28:45Speaker 1: Yes, very much so.
- 28:46Speaker 9: Because we talked to him here last year, and he's
- 28:49Speaker 9: an amazing guy. His hands-on, so many things, and a
- 28:54Speaker 9: lot of movies that are epic. But that one, to
- 28:57Speaker 9: me it's funny. I still, I guess, have to give
- 29:00Speaker 9: a lot of credit to Spielberg. But listening to him
- 29:02Speaker 9: tell his stories, I'm like, there's a lot of that
- 29:05Speaker 9: that goes to him, like him just building this and
- 29:07Speaker 9: then him figuring out how to work it where, you know,
- 29:10Speaker 9: Steven's doing a lot of impressive stuff too, but I
- 29:13Speaker 9: think he gets all that credit. And then listening to
- 29:15Speaker 9: Joe tell those stories.
- 29:16Speaker 6: It's yeah.
- 29:17Speaker 14: Yeah.
- 29:17Speaker 1: Joe and I become really good friends. He lives like
- 29:21Speaker 1: 10 minutes away from me in Los Angeles. And I
- 29:24Speaker 1: can't even remember where we met the first time that
- 29:26Speaker 1: we met, but we've, we've been friends for a long time. And,
- 29:30Speaker 1: He comes up to the shop every once in a
- 29:32Speaker 1: while and he's funny because he's like four foot ten
- 29:37Speaker 1: and he just like zips around the shop. but you
- 29:40Speaker 1: know what's great about that is you know back then
- 29:43Speaker 1: when it was the studio system and he was a
- 29:45Speaker 1: studio art director so.
- 29:48Speaker 6: At Universal he was just on the payroll.
- 29:50Speaker 1: Yeah so he worked on Night Gallery and he worked
- 29:53Speaker 1: with Hitchcock and he was there you know so It's
- 29:59Speaker 1: so different now, but when they talk about Jaws and
- 30:03Speaker 1: you realize that the production designer was out location scouting
- 30:07Speaker 1: and then he was the guy who was basically hired
- 30:09Speaker 1: to interview everybody and figure out who was going to
- 30:13Speaker 1: build the shark. Because they talked about like, oh, we'll
- 30:15Speaker 1: do it in a miniature. No, we'll get a real
- 30:16Speaker 1: shark and put it in a tank. The Universal Prop
- 30:21Speaker 1: Shop or the Universal Effect Shop was too busy. Because
- 30:24Speaker 1: they were doing Hindenburg and they were doing other stuff.
- 30:26Speaker 1: So Joe had to go outside of Universal, which was,
- 30:29Speaker 1: even then, sort of unheard of. So, you know, finding
- 30:32Speaker 1: Bob Maddy, I was like, oh, this guy, Disney did
- 30:34Speaker 1: this big water creature for 20,000 Leagues. I always think about,
- 30:40Speaker 1: I was like, God, if I would have just been
- 30:42Speaker 1: born a little earlier, I could have been like, hey,
- 30:44Speaker 1: I'll build that shark for you and gone through the
- 30:47Speaker 1: hardest movie of my career like they all did.
- 30:49Speaker 3: Shove Joe out of the way.
- 30:50Speaker 6: Be like, no, I'll do it.
- 30:51Speaker 1: Yeah, it's fun because even shows that I, work on
- 30:55Speaker 1: now every once in a while. I'll look at the
- 30:57Speaker 1: call sheet and I'll see a name that I recognize.
- 30:59Speaker 1: I was like, wait a minute. We were doing Transformers
- 31:03Speaker 1: and I looked down at the special effects, the list
- 31:05Speaker 1: of who was working on the crew and it was
- 31:07Speaker 1: a guy named Richie Helmer. And Richie Helmer was one
- 31:10Speaker 1: of the guys that helped build the shark. So I
- 31:12Speaker 1: was like, oh my God. And I went over to
- 31:13Speaker 1: one of the other effects and I said, is Richie
- 31:14Speaker 1: Helmer here? He's like, yeah, he's a crotchety old dude.
- 31:17Speaker 1: He's in the trailer.
- 31:17Speaker 6: He's just, I want to talk to him.
- 31:18Speaker 1: He's a pissy all the time. I'm like, I want
- 31:20Speaker 1: to meet him. I want to go talk to him.
- 31:22Speaker 9: Um, Well, then, I guess just jumping back to, at
- 31:26Speaker 9: that point, how do you get, because you see Dawn
- 31:28Speaker 9: of the Dead, you end up working on the sequel
- 31:32Speaker 9: years later.
- 31:33Speaker 6: What's the in-between there? Like, how do you get from
- 31:35Speaker 6: liking that to.
- 31:36Speaker 1: The in-between is the weirdest Rubik's Cube of Hollywood that
- 31:41Speaker 1: you'll ever imagine. So, I live in Pittsburgh. I meet
- 31:49Speaker 1: George Romero, and of all places... I'm on a family
- 31:53Speaker 1: vacation in Europe. The first time, my parents took us
- 31:57Speaker 1: to Europe. And we went to, it was like three
- 32:02Speaker 1: days in London, three days in Paris, and four days
- 32:05Speaker 1: in Rome, something like that. And it was 1979. No,
- 32:10Speaker 1: earlier than that. Anyway, I'm sitting at a restaurant eating dinner,
- 32:16Speaker 1: and across the restaurant is George Romero and his wife, Christine.
- 32:22Speaker 1: And I knew who he was, of course, because in
- 32:25Speaker 1: Pittsburgh we had one Saturday night horror show called Chiller Theater.
- 32:29Speaker 3: Yeah.
- 32:29Speaker 1: And the host is named Bill Cardell. And he was
- 32:34Speaker 1: in Night of the Living Dead. He plays the reporter.
- 32:35Speaker 1: So what do you say, chief? How do you kill
- 32:38Speaker 1: these things? So he was like a local television newscaster
- 32:42Speaker 1: who was our horror host. So I had seen George
- 32:45Speaker 1: on Chiller Theater when they had played Night of the
- 32:47Speaker 1: Living Dead. So the irony, of course, was I went
- 32:51Speaker 1: all the way across town. the world the other to
- 32:54Speaker 1: meet the guy who was gonna open the doors for
- 32:57Speaker 1: me so we got to be friends and we exchanged
- 33:02Speaker 1: phone numbers i was 16 i think at the.
- 33:04Speaker 9: Time this just in the restaurant you're like hey you
- 33:06Speaker 9: don't know me well there this was my pickup line
- 33:09Speaker 9: i actually have a pickup line for george romero uh
- 33:12Speaker 9: my uncle.
- 33:14Speaker 1: Is an actor and was in the crazies so again
- 33:18Speaker 1: those the It's.
- 33:19Speaker 6: A nice tie-in.
- 33:20Speaker 1: Five separations, degrees of separation. And we went over to
- 33:24Speaker 1: him and said, hey, you know Sam Nicotero? He's our uncle. So,
- 33:29Speaker 1: of course, you're standing in the middle of a restaurant
- 33:31Speaker 1: in Rome and these two kids come up to you,
- 33:32Speaker 1: my brother and I. So we became friends. And my dad, again,
- 33:40Speaker 1: at the time was an avid movie fan and also
- 33:44Speaker 1: like a really big technology guy. So we owned one
- 33:47Speaker 1: of the first VCRs ever available. It was like reel-to-reel.
- 33:51Speaker 1: You'd have to thread it like those old tape players.
- 33:57Speaker 1: So we started a collection of movies. I remember the
- 34:01Speaker 1: first movies that we recorded were Seventh Voyage of Sinbad
- 34:05Speaker 1: and Horror of Dracula and The Time Machine. But you'd
- 34:08Speaker 1: have to record it off television. So you'd plug the
- 34:10Speaker 1: antenna into the back of the.
- 34:16Speaker 1: Video player and you'd record it but then the tapes
- 34:19Speaker 1: were only an hour long so if you were taping
- 34:21Speaker 1: an hour and a half movie you'd run out and
- 34:24Speaker 1: then you'd have to quickly re-thread another tape yeah exactly
- 34:28Speaker 1: so that was what my childhood was my childhood was
- 34:32Speaker 1: timing to when we got to a commercial where I
- 34:34Speaker 1: could change the tapes while I was recording stuff so
- 34:38Speaker 1: cut to me meeting George and I went to visit
- 34:41Speaker 1: him at his office once and I brought him a
- 34:43Speaker 1: list of all the movies that we had collected. Because
- 34:47Speaker 1: back then, video was just starting, but we had such
- 34:52Speaker 1: an early jump on it that we had been collecting
- 34:53Speaker 1: movies for quite a long time. And I find out
- 34:57Speaker 1: much later, of course, that George used to rent movies
- 35:01Speaker 1: from the library in New York where he lived, and
- 35:04Speaker 1: he and Scorsese used to fight over the same movies.
- 35:07Speaker 1: He'd go, there was a movie called Tales of Hoffman,
- 35:09Speaker 1: which is one of George's favorite movies. And he'd go
- 35:12Speaker 1: to Renton like, sorry, Mr. Scorsese has that movie. And
- 35:14Speaker 1: he'd be like, damn, whoever that guy is. And then
- 35:17Speaker 1: Scorsese would go to Renton and, oh, sorry, Mr. Romero.
- 35:19Speaker 1: I'd say, damn, whoever that guy is.
- 35:21Speaker 6: That guy making industrial films.
- 35:23Speaker 1: Yes, I hate those guys. So I went to George
- 35:28Speaker 1: and this just goes to my, I haven't told this
- 35:31Speaker 1: story in a long time, goes to my bottom of
- 35:33Speaker 1: my geekness. So I give him a list of all
- 35:36Speaker 1: of our movies and he circles, I don't know, 30 movies.
- 35:41Speaker 1: This was on a Thursday afternoon or a Friday. So
- 35:44Speaker 1: I spend the entire weekend dubbing every movie he wanted.
- 35:48Speaker 1: So Monday morning, I go to visit him again with
- 35:50Speaker 1: a box. And I go, hey, so remember those movies
- 35:54Speaker 1: that you were interested in? And he goes, yeah, well, here.
- 35:57Speaker 1: And I gave him all of them. And he said,
- 35:59Speaker 1: did you even sleep? And I was like, you're George Romero.
- 36:05Speaker 1: Why would I sleep? That's ridiculous. What are you, crazy?
- 36:07Speaker 1: What's the matter with you?
- 36:08Speaker 9: So.
- 36:10Speaker 1: That's kind of how we became friends was that I
- 36:12Speaker 1: was just like, George Romero needs this movie. I have
- 36:15Speaker 1: to make it for him immediately. And then, of course,
- 36:18Speaker 1: just one thing led to another. And I stayed in
- 36:21Speaker 1: touch with him. And then when they started shooting Creepshow,
- 36:24Speaker 1: they called. And they're like, hey, we're doing this movie.
- 36:27Speaker 1: Do you want a PA job? And I was like, well,
- 36:29Speaker 1: this is 1981. And I said, well, the only issue
- 36:36Speaker 1: is that I'm graduating from high school. And I'm going
- 36:41Speaker 1: to go to college. But thank you. And they said, well,
- 36:44Speaker 1: you should come visit. Maybe it was 1980, actually. It
- 36:48Speaker 1: wasn't 81. It was 1980. And they said, you should
- 36:53Speaker 1: come visit. So I went, okay. So the first time
- 36:55Speaker 1: I went to visit, they were shooting at an old
- 37:00Speaker 1: abandoned factory in Monroeville, like 10 minutes from the Monroeville Mall.
- 37:05Speaker 1: And I pull up. And I walk into this giant warehouse,
- 37:10Speaker 1: and they had built all the sets for the crate.
- 37:12Speaker 1: Remember the episode where they go in the basement of
- 37:14Speaker 1: the university and the crate's under the steps? So they
- 37:17Speaker 1: built all that. It was all a set that was
- 37:18Speaker 1: built in a warehouse. So I remember walking in, and
- 37:21Speaker 1: I walked through. I walked onto the set. Like, there
- 37:24Speaker 1: were no security guards or anything. It was just like
- 37:26Speaker 1: this kid, like, hey, well.
- 37:27Speaker 6: It's Monroeville.
- 37:28Speaker 1: And I turned around and walked back out, and in
- 37:32Speaker 1: the corner of that warehouse was Tom Savini's lab. And
- 37:36Speaker 1: that's when I met Tom. And we got to be friends, very,
- 37:43Speaker 1: very good friends, so much so that we spent a
- 37:46Speaker 1: lot of time just hanging out, and I would go
- 37:48Speaker 1: and visit, and he would let me come and watch
- 37:50Speaker 1: while they were building everything. I would just hang out.
- 37:54Speaker 1: And so, of course, a couple years go by. I
- 37:58Speaker 1: stay in touch with George, and Tom and I stay
- 38:00Speaker 1: in touch, and the Day of the Dead comes up.
- 38:04Speaker 1: So it's now July of 1984.
- 38:05Speaker 11: And.
- 38:08Speaker 1: I go to visit George for lunch, and he's like, hey,
- 38:10Speaker 1: we just got a green light on Day of the Dead.
- 38:11Speaker 1: Do you want a job? And I was like, okay.
- 38:14Speaker 1: I already made this fucking mistake once. I'm not going
- 38:18Speaker 1: to make it again. So I said, yes. And at
- 38:22Speaker 1: this point, I had been in college for three years,
- 38:25Speaker 1: because it was three years, yeah, it was three years between,
- 38:29Speaker 1: four years between the two. And I was pre-med, and
- 38:32Speaker 1: I had one more year to go before I was
- 38:33Speaker 1: going to graduate and go off to college. And I
- 38:36Speaker 1: went to my folks, and I said, hey, so... funny
- 38:39Speaker 1: story I'm going to take a semester off school I'm
- 38:41Speaker 1: going to work on this movie and then I'm going
- 38:43Speaker 1: to go back and finish I'm going to be a
- 38:44Speaker 1: doctor so I don't have anything to worry about and
- 38:46Speaker 1: then I called Savini and I said listen I just
- 38:48Speaker 1: got hired on Day of the Dead I want to
- 38:49Speaker 1: be your assistant I want to be your like apprentice
- 38:52Speaker 1: and George and the producers loved that idea because that
- 38:57Speaker 1: allowed me to order all the supplies sift through the
- 39:00Speaker 1: resumes break down the script sort of kind of coordinate
- 39:05Speaker 1: the department And it left Tom sort of free to
- 39:08Speaker 1: just be Tom Savini, which at that time he was
- 39:11Speaker 1: really fucking good at. He's still good at it. He's
- 39:14Speaker 1: still Tom Savini. So that's how I got hired. It
- 39:17Speaker 1: was kind of a complete sort of fluke that it happened. And,
- 39:23Speaker 1: you know, the rest, I never went back to school.
- 39:28Speaker 1: my parents were never upset which is interesting because my
- 39:32Speaker 1: parents were more like listen he's a smart kid he's
- 39:35Speaker 1: got a good head on his shoulders whatever he does
- 39:38Speaker 1: I ended up dating the script supervisor who was 10
- 39:42Speaker 1: years older than me I moved to New York when
- 39:44Speaker 1: we wrapped Day of the Dead and then within a
- 39:45Speaker 1: year I was in Los Angeles so my parents were
- 39:48Speaker 1: never like, oh my God, we've lost him. My parents
- 39:51Speaker 1: were like, he's a smart kid. He's got a good
- 39:54Speaker 1: head on his shoulders. He'll be fine.
- 39:55Speaker 6: The evils of Hollywood.
- 39:57Speaker 1: Yes. Yes.
- 39:59Speaker 9: Well then, while we're at sort of that time period,
- 40:02Speaker 9: do you want to do Creepshow 2?
- 40:04Speaker 7: That movie traumatized me. I'm still terrified of large bodies
- 40:07Speaker 7: of water where I can't see.
- 40:09Speaker 1: See, that's what Jaws did for me. But Creepshow 2,
- 40:13Speaker 1: it's a very long story, but an interesting story. So,
- 40:17Speaker 1: We were working on Evil Dead 2. And again, when
- 40:23Speaker 1: I moved to New York after Day of the Dead,
- 40:26Speaker 1: Richard Rubenstein, who produced Day of the Dead and Dawn
- 40:28Speaker 1: of the Dead, he took a shining to me. And again,
- 40:31Speaker 1: I think he saw something like, oh, this kid's got some...
- 40:33Speaker 1: He's got moxie. I like this kid. I don't know.
- 40:35Speaker 3: That's what you want to hear.
- 40:36Speaker 1: That's what you want to hear. Well, back then, that's
- 40:37Speaker 1: what you did hear. They offered me a PA job
- 40:41Speaker 1: on Tales from the Dark Side. And Richard was kind
- 40:43Speaker 1: of grooming me, I think, at that point. Richard... They
- 40:46Speaker 1: were so appreciative of the fact that I kind of
- 40:50Speaker 1: wrangled Tom's department that everything went off so smoothly on
- 40:55Speaker 1: Day of the Dead that they were like, this kid,
- 40:58Speaker 1: maybe he's a producer. I don't know. So Richard hired
- 41:02Speaker 1: me on Tales from the Dark Side and I worked
- 41:04Speaker 1: on the TV show for a couple months in New York.
- 41:08Speaker 1: And then what ended up happening was I ended up
- 41:10Speaker 1: moving to Los Angeles. And I think Richard was a
- 41:12Speaker 1: little bit like, Where are you going? Why don't you stay?
- 41:16Speaker 1: But I wanted to do makeup effects. I didn't want
- 41:18Speaker 1: to be a producer. I wanted to make monsters. So
- 41:22Speaker 1: I worked in L.A. for a couple years, and then
- 41:24Speaker 1: Creepshow 2 happens. And we were just finishing Evil Dead 2,
- 41:29Speaker 1: and again, I got a call from Richard Rubenstein and
- 41:32Speaker 1: David Ball, the producer, and they're like, listen, we hired
- 41:35Speaker 1: this guy, Ed French in New York, but he needs
- 41:40Speaker 1: a crew. He needs people, and we know you guys.
- 41:43Speaker 1: We trust you guys, because... You worked on Day of
- 41:47Speaker 1: the Dead, so we need help. And I was like, yeah, well,
- 41:52Speaker 1: let me finish here, and then I'll go to New York.
- 41:56Speaker 1: So Howard Berger and Mike Tercik and myself went to
- 42:01Speaker 1: New York, and there was a big falling out, because
- 42:06Speaker 1: what ended up happening was Ed French was doing his
- 42:09Speaker 1: own thing, and Michael Gornick, who was the director, was...
- 42:13Speaker 1: They were starting to get nervous because they hadn't seen
- 42:15Speaker 1: anything and they wanted to start seeing progress. We had
- 42:18Speaker 1: started working on the Chief Wooden Head suit. So, again,
- 42:25Speaker 1: what ended up happening was they were starting to get
- 42:27Speaker 1: a little nervous because they hadn't seen a lot of
- 42:30Speaker 1: progress on stuff for the Raft episode. So, Ed French
- 42:35Speaker 1: got a little upset because they... basically said greg let
- 42:40Speaker 1: us know how things are going and ed french was
- 42:42Speaker 1: like well you're sort of acting like a spy so
- 42:45Speaker 1: you can't work here anymore so they weren't going to
- 42:48Speaker 1: fire me because richard and david ball those guys wanted
- 42:52Speaker 1: me on the movie so they sent me to arizona
- 42:55Speaker 1: and i worked with the special effects guys and i
- 42:58Speaker 1: built the blobs yeah so i spent uh i spent
- 43:02Speaker 1: like a week with a big roller latexing, latex onto
- 43:06Speaker 1: the floor and pouring polyfoam into the swirl and putting
- 43:08Speaker 1: all the little pieces into that. So much so, of course,
- 43:12Speaker 1: that I ended up getting blood poisoning from the polyfoam
- 43:15Speaker 1: because I was in this room. So, lo and behold,
- 43:19Speaker 1: that was my responsibilities on Creepshow 2. They were like, well,
- 43:22Speaker 1: he can't really, Ed French doesn't want him around, so
- 43:26Speaker 1: let's send him out here and he'll work with us.
- 43:27Speaker 1: And then, of course, you know, that department imploded and,
- 43:33Speaker 1: Howard Berger and myself and Everett Burrell, we sort of
- 43:36Speaker 1: took over the department and we rebuilt all the effects.
- 43:40Speaker 1: You know, we bought hundreds of gallons of ultra slime
- 43:44Speaker 1: and methacil and I ended up sculpting actually a lot
- 43:48Speaker 1: of pieces. I sculpted the rotted away arm for Paige
- 43:52Speaker 1: Hanna and a lot of that stuff. So what that
- 43:57Speaker 1: episode could have been and what it ended up being,
- 43:59Speaker 1: I look at it and I'm like, yeah, it's a
- 44:01Speaker 1: big piece of latex that we were pulling through the lake.
- 44:03Speaker 1: But people, I would love to remake that episode. Actually,
- 44:07Speaker 1: that's something that we should do because it was a
- 44:10Speaker 1: lot of fun and it was a great movie. It
- 44:14Speaker 1: was a fun movie to work on because we shot
- 44:17Speaker 1: two episodes in Prescott, Arizona and then we went to Bangor,
- 44:20Speaker 1: Maine and shot the last episode because Steve King lived there.
- 44:24Speaker 1: It's funny because Steve was writing Misery at the time
- 44:28Speaker 1: so he came and visited set a lot and you'd
- 44:29Speaker 1: go into his trailer and there was crumpled up little
- 44:32Speaker 1: pieces of paper And I took one and kept one
- 44:35Speaker 1: because I was a big fan of his. I love
- 44:36Speaker 1: Pet Sematary and Salem's Lot. And I still have it.
- 44:40Speaker 1: And it was, he was writing Misery and was like,
- 44:42Speaker 1: and I was like, Ooh, this is kind of cool.
- 44:44Speaker 1: I'm going to keep one of these. Ironically. And then
- 44:46Speaker 1: of course I ended up working on the movie. So
- 44:49Speaker 1: it was kind of funny.
- 44:49Speaker 9: Well, and then you, you mentioned Evil Dead too. That
- 44:52Speaker 9: was one of the other ones I was wondering, because
- 44:54Speaker 9: that seems like pure insanity. So like, I don't know how,
- 44:58Speaker 9: just coming up with such crazy ideas. And I, I
- 45:01Speaker 9: guess what was it like throwing in the middle of
- 45:03Speaker 9: that set and then coming off that first win and
- 45:05Speaker 9: then trying to take it to a whole new level,
- 45:07Speaker 9: which it definitely went to.
- 45:09Speaker 1: Well, it was, Evil Dead 2 was a blast. I mean,
- 45:12Speaker 1: it was another crossroads in my career. It's funny, every
- 45:15Speaker 1: movie you're talking about was like, now I'm realizing, wow,
- 45:17Speaker 1: that was great. I was in Pittsburgh for about three
- 45:22Speaker 1: months between Christmas and March waiting for Savini to get
- 45:29Speaker 1: a gig. Because I had moved to LA, I'd worked
- 45:32Speaker 1: for Mark Sjostrom, and then I went and worked at
- 45:36Speaker 1: DeLaurence's studio in North Carolina, and I wanted to go
- 45:39Speaker 1: home for Pittsburgh and see my girlfriend and hang out.
- 45:42Speaker 1: And Savini was, I was waiting around, and finally I
- 45:47Speaker 1: said to Tom, I'm like, I can't wait any longer,
- 45:49Speaker 1: I gotta get back to work. So I went back
- 45:51Speaker 1: to LA, and I got hired at Mark Sjostrom's on
- 45:54Speaker 1: Evil Dead 2.
- 45:54Speaker 10: And.
- 45:57Speaker 1: Like a week later, Tom called, hey, I'm doing Texas
- 45:59Speaker 1: Chainsaw Massacre 2 with Toby Hooper and Austin. I need
- 46:02Speaker 1: you to meet me in Texas. And I said, I can't.
- 46:06Speaker 1: I made a commitment and I'm here. I have to
- 46:08Speaker 1: stay here. So we prepped that show until May and
- 46:14Speaker 1: then we all flew to Wadesboro, North Carolina, South Carolina
- 46:22Speaker 1: and shot Evil Dead 2 from like, June, July, August.
- 46:28Speaker 1: Or May, June, July. And, you know, it was all
- 46:31Speaker 1: in the script. I mean, all the wackiness and the weirdness.
- 46:34Speaker 1: The funny thing was when I read, I had seen
- 46:36Speaker 1: the first Evil Dead, of course. So, I always remember
- 46:40Speaker 1: thinking that that movie was so terrifying, but that the
- 46:43Speaker 1: effects were so shitty that it took you right out
- 46:45Speaker 1: of the movie. But you take that movie, like if
- 46:48Speaker 1: Dick Smith had been hired on the first Evil Dead,
- 46:50Speaker 1: that would have been the, by far, the scariest, creepiest,
- 46:56Speaker 1: movie ever made.
- 46:57Speaker 6: I still think that first one holds up.
- 46:59Speaker 1: It does, but it's really scary. The effects are a little...
- 47:04Speaker 1: When you.
- 47:04Speaker 7: Watch it in the middle of the woods by yourself
- 47:07Speaker 7: in a sleeping bag. As a young teenager, I watched
- 47:10Speaker 7: it by myself. Our house was in the middle of
- 47:12Speaker 7: the woods by myself.
- 47:15Speaker 6: There's a reason you're like this.
- 47:17Speaker 7: There's many, many reasons. I can't go in the woods.
- 47:20Speaker 7: I can't go in ponds or lakes.
- 47:23Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 47:24Speaker 9: But even the creature designs, did he have all that?
- 47:26Speaker 9: Like the rotten apple head is always like, that one at.
- 47:29Speaker 1: The end, the big giant window.
- 47:31Speaker 12: Yeah, yeah.
- 47:32Speaker 6: Did he already have all that stuff kind of planned out?
- 47:34Speaker 4: He did.
- 47:34Speaker 1: You know, the funny thing about Sam was is that
- 47:37Speaker 1: I didn't really, you know, going off the first Evil Dead,
- 47:40Speaker 1: I was like, okay, we're in store for like the
- 47:43Speaker 1: most horrifying, terror-filled excursion ever. And when we started shooting,
- 47:50Speaker 1: they had done a couple of rewrites and they rewrote,
- 47:52Speaker 1: they wrote the scene where Ash is in the woodshed
- 47:58Speaker 1: and the door flies open and Linda's headless body comes
- 48:01Speaker 1: in with the chainsaw. And I was like, oh my God,
- 48:04Speaker 1: that's unbelievable. What a scary, horrifying, creepy image. And then
- 48:10Speaker 1: when we started shooting, I really started getting a sense
- 48:13Speaker 1: of like, Sam's got kind of a Three Stooges sense
- 48:16Speaker 1: of humor here.
- 48:18Speaker 6: It definitely starts to come out in that second one.
- 48:20Speaker 6: It really did. The first, not as much.
- 48:22Speaker 1: The first, not as much. But the second one certainly,
- 48:26Speaker 1: you know, Bruce Campbell breaking plates over his head for
- 48:29Speaker 1: three days straight was certainly something that I didn't, you
- 48:34Speaker 1: don't read it in the script and you don't read
- 48:35Speaker 1: the script and go, this is a wacky, crazy, you know,
- 48:38Speaker 1: sort of cult movie. So I remember being like sort
- 48:42Speaker 1: of minimally disappointed that it wasn't scary because I wanted
- 48:48Speaker 1: it to be, I wanted it to be like Evil
- 48:49Speaker 1: Dead 1, like super scary. And then, of course, once
- 48:54Speaker 1: they finished it and we saw it, it was just
- 48:55Speaker 1: so outrageous. And, you know, I remember making the gelatin
- 49:00Speaker 1: eyeballs that go into Cassie Wesley's mouth and putting them
- 49:05Speaker 1: in the freezer and keeping them cold because they were
- 49:07Speaker 1: made of gelatin and they were melting. And just the
- 49:11Speaker 1: eyeball with the monofilament and all that crazy stuff, which
- 49:16Speaker 1: when we were prepping it, it never really came across as...
- 49:20Speaker 1: as like this sort of wacky stuff. It came across
- 49:26Speaker 1: much more like, okay, well, here's Evil Ed and here's
- 49:29Speaker 1: Evil Ash and here's Henrietta and here's the pee we
- 49:33Speaker 1: had and here's these gags. And even the moment where
- 49:38Speaker 1: Ash chops up evil ad and i think that the
- 49:42Speaker 1: footage was lost the only piece that exists is the
- 49:45Speaker 1: video that i shot on set of all the pieces
- 49:48Speaker 1: on the ground and people were like wow what what
- 49:51Speaker 1: happened to that scene like they he was supposed to
- 49:53Speaker 1: chop it up and all the pieces were still going
- 49:55Speaker 1: to be alive and he goes give me the chainsaw
- 49:57Speaker 1: and he's like and cuts everything up into little pieces
- 50:01Speaker 1: uh so when we started shooting and it was you
- 50:04Speaker 1: know the peewee head's eyeball gets in the trap door
- 50:07Speaker 1: and they jump on it and The eyeball flies out.
- 50:10Speaker 1: I really don't remember ever being like, oh, yeah, this
- 50:13Speaker 1: is the wacky shot with the eyeball flying around.
- 50:16Speaker 6: It's all technical. It's like, how do I shoot?
- 50:18Speaker 1: Yes, exactly. But it was fun. I mean, it was
- 50:22Speaker 1: really one of the most fun experiences. And, again, K
- 50:27Speaker 1: & B was born from Evil Dead 2. Me, Howard,
- 50:30Speaker 1: and Bob, we worked together so well that it kind
- 50:34Speaker 1: of– like solidified this idea of like, wow, we really
- 50:39Speaker 1: should start doing our own stuff.
- 50:41Speaker 9: So I guess, I mean, you've ended up doing such amazing,
- 50:45Speaker 9: just conceived special effects and they, they continue even like
- 50:49Speaker 9: even in The Walking Dead now.
- 50:51Speaker 6: Do you come up with that stuff well ahead of time?
- 50:54Speaker 6: Is it really planned out or is it on the fly?
- 50:57Speaker 1: No, it is. It's, it's, there's some happy accidents that
- 51:02Speaker 1: do happen on the fly.
- 51:03Speaker 3: Yeah.
- 51:04Speaker 1: But that's the most rewarding part of prepping a movie
- 51:09Speaker 1: is those first few meetings with the director where you
- 51:12Speaker 1: have the script in front of you and you sit
- 51:13Speaker 1: with the director and you start throwing ideas around because
- 51:16Speaker 1: that's when you're the most creative. Oh, what if we
- 51:18Speaker 1: tried it this way? What if we tried it this way?
- 51:20Speaker 1: What do you think about this idea? A lot of
- 51:22Speaker 1: times the directors will have, no, this is exactly what
- 51:25Speaker 1: I want. And other times the directors will want you
- 51:27Speaker 1: to help guide the process. So, We were always involved
- 51:32Speaker 1: in sort of helping the directors guide that process and
- 51:35Speaker 1: develop where the effects would go. And I think that
- 51:41Speaker 1: has a lot to do with where I am in
- 51:43Speaker 1: my career now because of having that freedom. There was
- 51:48Speaker 1: one time I remember on a set where a director
- 51:52Speaker 1: was like, I was like, listen, we should set this
- 51:55Speaker 1: shot first. And I remember the director saying, well, what
- 51:59Speaker 1: the fuck do you know your makeup? You don't know anything.
- 52:02Speaker 1: I'll never forget that because I was like, well, but
- 52:06Speaker 1: you're hiring me for my expertise. And if you're asking
- 52:10Speaker 1: me how to shoot something and I'm giving you my
- 52:14Speaker 1: expert opinion and you don't want to take it, then
- 52:16Speaker 1: you're a fucking idiot.
- 52:17Speaker 6: Did that plant that seed for directing? Because it took
- 52:20Speaker 6: you a while, it seemed like.
- 52:21Speaker 1: Before you decided. No, I never really imagined that I
- 52:24Speaker 1: was going to be a director. I made my.
- 52:27Speaker 1: United Monster Talent Agency short just because it was something
- 52:30Speaker 1: I wanted to try I just wanted to do it
- 52:32Speaker 1: just to see if I could do it it wasn't
- 52:34Speaker 1: like I'm going to become a director now I did
- 52:37Speaker 1: it I had a lot of fun I didn't fuck
- 52:39Speaker 1: it up I wasn't I didn't blow it and directing
- 52:44Speaker 1: just kind of fell into place I mean the truth
- 52:48Speaker 1: is I've had the best film school in the world
- 52:51Speaker 1: I've been on set with Steven Spielberg and Quentin Tarantino
- 52:54Speaker 1: and Robert Rodriguez and Frank Darabont the best John Carpenter
- 52:58Speaker 1: and John Landis and Wes Craven and George Romero. Every
- 53:03Speaker 1: director that has had an impact on society in the
- 53:07Speaker 1: last 40 years, I've had the good fortune of working with.
- 53:13Speaker 1: I read an interview somewhere where somebody said, I learn
- 53:17Speaker 1: more from the directors that don't know what they're doing.
- 53:20Speaker 1: I found that to be kind of a ridiculous comment
- 53:23Speaker 1: because every director is different and when I watch Quentin
- 53:29Speaker 1: Tarantino spend three weeks rehearsing a scene with actors before
- 53:33Speaker 1: a frame of film is even rolled, I understand what's
- 53:38Speaker 1: important to him. And then I watch other directors that
- 53:41Speaker 1: those performances aren't as important, and it's the visuals that
- 53:43Speaker 1: are important. It's just how people... That's why every director
- 53:47Speaker 1: is different. I never thought I was going to be
- 53:48Speaker 1: a director. I was just fortunate enough to... realized that
- 53:55Speaker 1: I had had enough experience on movie sets and had
- 53:59Speaker 1: downloaded enough with the people that I worked with to
- 54:03Speaker 1: guide me into being able to visualize what my vision
- 54:06Speaker 1: of things are.
- 54:08Speaker 9: I think even beyond that it's different going into.
- 54:11Speaker 6: It just wanting to be kind of competent and take
- 54:13Speaker 6: care of everybody. You've done some really stylish stuff these
- 54:16Speaker 6: last couple of seasons.
- 54:17Speaker 1: I've been trying and I directed a pilot last year
- 54:21Speaker 1: for AMC that didn't get picked up but Even though
- 54:25Speaker 1: it didn't go, I still learned a tremendous amount. And
- 54:30Speaker 1: I was in Los Angeles editing the first episode of
- 54:33Speaker 1: season six for Walking Dead. And the editor even said,
- 54:36Speaker 1: you shot this episode so different than anything else that
- 54:41Speaker 1: you've ever done. What's different? And I said, well, I
- 54:45Speaker 1: learned a lot. Even though that pilot didn't go, I
- 54:48Speaker 1: learned a lot about how to interpret how I want
- 54:52Speaker 1: to shoot things. And it was really fascinating for him
- 54:55Speaker 1: to say that because I actually physically set out to
- 54:59Speaker 1: put a different visual style on the way I was
- 55:01Speaker 1: shooting things. And when he said, wow, this episode is
- 55:05Speaker 1: shot so beautifully and the composition and just the way
- 55:08Speaker 1: you blocked everything and it just, it's so much more polished.
- 55:12Speaker 1: And that's something that Frank Darabont said when we wrapped
- 55:14Speaker 1: the first season of Walking Dead. I got a call
- 55:16Speaker 1: from Vampire Diaries and they said, hey, we need a
- 55:20Speaker 1: second unit director. Are you available? And I went, sure.
- 55:22Speaker 1: And I flew to Georgia and directed a couple days
- 55:27Speaker 1: for them and I remember saying to Frank yeah I
- 55:30Speaker 1: got offered to direct second unit on Vampire Diaries he's
- 55:33Speaker 1: like go he said any opportunity to get behind the
- 55:36Speaker 1: camera is a good opportunity because you can only get
- 55:39Speaker 1: better I hate to say this but I have to run.
- 55:43Speaker 6: Do you have anything you need to tell people as
- 55:45Speaker 6: far as watch Walking.
- 55:46Speaker 1: Dead or more specific keep watching Walking Dead no I
- 55:50Speaker 1: mean I'm grateful for the fans of the support of
- 55:53Speaker 1: the show Uh, season six will be on, on the
- 55:57Speaker 1: air in October. You know, we're always October through March
- 56:01Speaker 1: and it's shaping up to be something spectacular. Awesome.
- 56:06Speaker 6: And spoiler alert, who do I have to blame for
- 56:08Speaker 6: the Beth situation?
- 56:11Speaker 1: Uh, you have to blame our writers.
- 56:12Speaker 6: I was not pleased.
- 56:14Speaker 1: I know.
- 56:15Speaker 6: Mostly because, maybe it's just because she's so adorable.
- 56:18Speaker 1: She is adorable and that has a lot to do
- 56:19Speaker 1: with it because people never said, well, what are we
- 56:21Speaker 1: going to do that Tyrese is now gone?
- 56:23Speaker 8: Yeah.
- 56:23Speaker 1: Tyrese is not as adorable as Beth is.
- 56:25Speaker 6: I just saw her perform.
- 56:27Speaker 1: I know, she's great.
- 56:28Speaker 6: She's a great songwriter, too.
- 56:29Speaker 1: I just talked to her the other day.
- 56:30Speaker 8: She's awesome.
- 56:31Speaker 1: I think it caught her a little off guard, but
- 56:33Speaker 1: the truth of the matter is, you've got a great career.
- 56:36Speaker 9: It's good to keep people guessing, but yeah, that was
- 56:39Speaker 9: just such a weird turn of events.
- 56:43Speaker 1: I told Marta Kristen I would have dinner with her
- 56:45Speaker 1: at 6.30.
- 56:45Speaker 7: All right.
- 56:46Speaker 1: I'm holding up Judy Robinson. Thank you.
- 56:49Speaker 11: Bye.
- 56:49Speaker 8: Thanks again.
- 56:50Speaker 3: Yeah, of course.
- 56:51Speaker 1: Okay.
- 56:51Speaker 8: They hung a sign up in our town If you
- 56:56Speaker 8: live it up, you won't live it.
- 56:59Speaker 17: Down So she left Monroe, son.
- 57:07Speaker 9: Just like a bullet leaves a.
- 57:11Speaker 8: Gun Charcoal eyes and Monroe.
- 57:16Speaker 16: Hips She went and took the California trip.
- 57:24Speaker 8: Well, the moon was gold and her hair like wind. Said,
- 57:28Speaker 8: don't look back now, just come on, Jim. You gotta
- 57:33Speaker 8: hold on, hold on. You gotta hold on. Take my
- 57:39Speaker 8: hand and stand right here. You gotta hold on.
- 57:43Speaker 6: I can hear you just fine.
- 57:45Speaker 11: Huh?
- 57:46Speaker 6: You don't have your headphones on.
- 57:48Speaker 9: I don't like putting things in my ears.
- 57:50Speaker 1: I don't.
- 57:50Speaker 7: I don't like hats. I don't like things on my head.
- 57:53Speaker 6: That's our running pad.
- 57:54Speaker 7: Except hoods. I'm okay with like hoods. Like if I
- 57:56Speaker 7: have a hoodie.
- 57:57Speaker 6: There's a whole ad of you saying that nonsense that
- 57:59Speaker 6: I listen to all the damn time.
- 58:01Speaker 11: What?
- 58:01Speaker 6: I don't like things in my ears.
- 58:04Speaker 7: I don't like things in my ears.
- 58:06Speaker 6: You're the worst pitch person ever.
- 58:08Speaker 4: I am.
- 58:08Speaker 6: That's how this goes. We're recreating the ad that we
- 58:12Speaker 6: did at whatever that place is.
- 58:14Speaker 1: I have mine.
- 58:15Speaker 6: They're awesome. They're the wood ones. They're deluxe. Look at
- 58:17Speaker 6: this shit. That's hardwood.
- 58:19Speaker 7: I guess if I were to shove any implement in
- 58:22Speaker 7: my ear, it would be those.
- 58:23Speaker 9: We don't recommend you shove anything else in your ear.
- 58:25Speaker 9: That's kind of why we were hooked up with Tweaked Audio.
- 58:27Speaker 9: It's the only thing we recommend you shove in your
- 58:29Speaker 9: ear for medical purposes, really. If you damage your eardrum,

- 58:47Speaker 1: It's awesome.
- 58:47Speaker 7: Is it better than 5% discount?
- 58:48Speaker 9: Not that 5% discount that you were looking at in
- 58:50Speaker 9: that catalog.
- 58:52Speaker 7: The discount you will be getting from Tweaked Audio will
- 58:54Speaker 7: be a hell of a lot better than the 5%.
- 58:55Speaker 7: It's a third off.
- 58:56Speaker 8: You get a third off.
- 58:57Speaker 6: Holy shit.
- 58:58Speaker 7: If I had math, that would be awesome.

- 59:56Speaker 6: This is Scott Wilson.
- 59:58Speaker 16: I played Herschel Green on The Walking Dead, and this
- 1:00:01Speaker 16: is Movie Meltdown.
- 1:00:03Speaker 3: Stay tuned. It's part of your problem, you know.
- 1:00:13Speaker 1: You haven't seen enough movies.
- 1:00:14Speaker 4: All of life's riddles are answered in the movies.
- 1:00:17Speaker 2: And now, on with the show.
- 1:00:20Speaker 8: The Walking Dead.
- 1:00:26Speaker 14: You push all the buttons, you seem to enjoy.
- 1:00:31Speaker 16: They're larger than life to one little approach.
- 1:00:40Speaker 8: Let me hear your voice. Well, be on your approach.
- 1:00:45Speaker 8: I see you through the magic. And I hear you
- 1:00:48Speaker 8: spin your mirror. Smile real and stick through the smoke
- 1:00:53Speaker 8: and the mirrors. My eyes love all my brand new checks.
- 1:00:57Speaker 14: Never gonna fall for.
- 1:00:58Speaker 8: Your special effects. It's magic, and the view is getting clearer.
- 1:01:04Speaker 14: Smile realistic through the smoke and the mirrors.
- 1:01:08Speaker 8: My eyes love what my brain rejects. Never gonna fall
- 1:01:11Speaker 8: for your special effects. Special effects. Special effects. I thought
- 1:01:16Speaker 8: my picture was in.
- 1:01:25Speaker 11: Here.
- 1:01:27Speaker 6: You got your picture with Greg Nicotero?
- 1:01:28Speaker 7: I did. I get my picture taken with Greg Nicotero.
- 1:01:31Speaker 6: Was he awesome?
- 1:01:32Speaker 7: He was pretty. He seemed really nice.
- 1:01:34Speaker 6: He's pretty damn cool.
- 1:01:35Speaker 7: They had somebody in there waiting to take pictures for you.
- 1:01:38Speaker 7: They were only letting one person in at a time.
- 1:01:41Speaker 6: That's for the best.
- 1:01:42Speaker 7: I know, but still.
- 1:01:43Speaker 9: You don't want these nerds to get all excited and
- 1:01:45Speaker 9: a big zombie horde breaks out.
- 1:01:46Speaker 7: I was kind of waiting for it. He had nice shoes, too.
- 1:01:51Speaker 7: I liked his shoes.
- 1:01:52Speaker 6: Good to know.
- 1:01:54Speaker 7: He didn't smell either. I liked that. It didn't smell
- 1:01:57Speaker 7: like zombies. I was kind of afraid of that, but
- 1:02:00Speaker 7: it was all good.
- 1:02:01Speaker 6: That would be an issue.
- 1:02:02Speaker 7: It seemed really nice and smelled decent, so that's good.
- 1:02:06Speaker 7: You probably should have recorded hours ago before I was
- 1:02:09Speaker 7: tired again.
- 1:02:10Speaker 9: You're always kind of loopy.
- 1:02:13Speaker 6: I hate to tell you.
- 1:02:14Speaker 7: If you caught me right after my Pop-Tarts, I might
- 1:02:16Speaker 7: have been better.
- 1:02:17Speaker 6: You did sit here eating Pop-Tarts at the table.
- 1:02:19Speaker 7: I did, and I was so glad nobody wanted to
- 1:02:20Speaker 7: shake my hand because I was mid-Pop-Tart, and that would
- 1:02:22Speaker 7: not have gone over well.
- 1:02:24Speaker 6: They did try to shake you. They did not. You
- 1:02:26Speaker 6: kind of growled at them.
- 1:02:28Speaker 7: I thought you were trying to talk about Pop-Tarts.
- 1:02:30Speaker 6: Dog with a toy.
- 1:02:33Speaker 1: Okay, never mind.
- 1:02:34Speaker 6: I'll just.
- 1:02:34Speaker 7: Don't come between Misty and her food.
- 1:02:37Speaker 9: Luckily, I had to be our public relations while you
- 1:02:39Speaker 9: sat over there and growled at people while eating Pop-Tarts.
- 1:02:43Speaker 7: Then again, it's kind of like that when I'm not
- 1:02:45Speaker 7: eating Pop-Tarts.
- 1:02:45Speaker 6: Yeah, kind of.
- 1:02:47Speaker 7: I'm not a friendly person.
- 1:02:49Speaker 9: Alright, well, it has been another wonderful year, and I'm
- 1:02:52Speaker 9: sure many other Wonderfest episodes will be coming your way
- 1:02:55Speaker 9: in the near future of lots and lots of coverage.
- 1:02:59Speaker 7: I love Wonderfest.
- 1:03:01Speaker 1: It's awesome.
- 1:03:02Speaker 6: And you should come here, too.
- 1:03:03Speaker 7: I like their carpet. I've been the whole way, not
- 1:03:07Speaker 7: the one in here.
- 1:03:08Speaker 9: It is a very homey place, but that's just because
- 1:03:10Speaker 9: we've been here for like 17 years or however long
- 1:03:12Speaker 9: it's been.
- 1:03:13Speaker 7: We're right by the ice water, too, so just in
- 1:03:15Speaker 7: case we get parched.
- 1:03:16Speaker 6: That is something I wanted to mention.
- 1:03:18Speaker 9: They're I get back to our levels of geekiness that
- 1:03:21Speaker 9: are a little above certain others. Some people, and I'll
- 1:03:25Speaker 9: say people, but it's mostly guys that I see at
- 1:03:27Speaker 9: these conventions that are just like, okay, no, I have
- 1:03:31Speaker 9: to take pictures of everything.
- 1:03:33Speaker 6: And I'm like, that's cool. But sometimes I'm like, what
- 1:03:37Speaker 6: are you doing?
- 1:03:38Speaker 9: Because there were two guys earlier, one of which was
- 1:03:41Speaker 9: assigned the camera, and he had this pretty big, real camera.
- 1:03:45Speaker 6: They don't even need those anymore. Your phone takes a
- 1:03:47Speaker 6: better picture sometimes.
- 1:03:48Speaker 7: Did you take a picture of the water pictures? He
- 1:03:50Speaker 7: stood in front of our table and took a picture
- 1:03:52Speaker 7: of the water. They're shiny.
- 1:03:54Speaker 9: I mean, it's nice ice water area over here, but
- 1:03:58Speaker 9: there's like a stack of cups and some metal containers
- 1:04:01Speaker 9: holding water.
- 1:04:02Speaker 6: And he took a picture of it.
- 1:04:03Speaker 7: They are fancy.
- 1:04:05Speaker 9: I'm just like, what are you going to do with
- 1:04:07Speaker 9: that picture? Like, what do you need that picture for?
- 1:04:10Speaker 9: I'm taking a lot of weird pictures of conventions, but never.
- 1:04:12Speaker 1: Of the water.
- 1:04:13Speaker 7: If you took it crooked, it's art.
- 1:04:16Speaker 6: That's your thingy.
- 1:04:17Speaker 7: That's not mine.
- 1:04:18Speaker 6: You are an artiste.
- 1:04:20Speaker 7: I was mocking somebody else's fantastic art photos. Let's tilt
- 1:04:24Speaker 7: the camera a little bit. Fucking art.
- 1:04:26Speaker 6: Sad thing is I think I know who you're talking about.
- 1:04:28Speaker 7: Her name's Judy.
- 1:04:31Speaker 6: No names will.
- 1:04:32Speaker 7: Be used, but I think I know who you're talking about.
- 1:04:37Speaker 7: You can censor it. I don't give a shit. I'm
- 1:04:39Speaker 7: not her friend on Facebook anymore.
- 1:04:40Speaker 6: That's official. We're not friends. I don't know if she's
- 1:04:42Speaker 6: anybody's friend.
- 1:04:44Speaker 7: I'm kind of disappointed there haven't been that many costumes
- 1:04:46Speaker 7: here as they normally used to be, it seems like.
- 1:04:47Speaker 7: It's just like you couldn't spin a stick without hitting
- 1:04:50Speaker 7: like a Boba Fett. What the hell is that over there?
- 1:04:55Speaker 17: Bosk.
- 1:04:56Speaker 7: That's Bosk.
- 1:04:57Speaker 6: I think Bosk was here last year.
- 1:04:59Speaker 7: But it seems like the first couple years was him here.
- 1:05:00Speaker 7: There'd be aliens everywhere, predators everywhere. Like I said, you
- 1:05:03Speaker 7: couldn't swing a stick without hitting at least one. Now
- 1:05:05Speaker 7: it's like you'd have to get a way bigger stick.
- 1:05:08Speaker 6: That's why they don't let you in here with a stick.
- 1:05:09Speaker 3: I know.
- 1:05:10Speaker 7: Remember that guy who did the really good Anakin?
- 1:05:13Speaker 11: No.
- 1:05:14Speaker 7: I mean he looked just like Anakin Skywalker.
- 1:05:18Speaker 6: And he used to come here.
- 1:05:19Speaker 7: Yes I think I blocked him out there's a picture
- 1:05:22Speaker 7: of me with.
- 1:05:22Speaker 18: A guy okay no I kind of do remember because
- 1:05:24Speaker 18: I think I took that picture so now that you
- 1:05:25Speaker 18: say that I do kind of remember taking a picture
- 1:05:28Speaker 18: of you and an Anakin kid he wasn't a kid
- 1:05:32Speaker 18: he was Hayden Christensen he was Hayden Christensen that guy.
- 1:05:35Speaker 7: Sucks anyways but this guy probably could have done a
- 1:05:37Speaker 7: better job am I the only one who doesn't give
- 1:05:40Speaker 7: a shit about Star Wars.
- 1:05:42Speaker 6: Yes Okay, that's what I thought. In, I'd say, at
- 1:05:45Speaker 6: least America, but probably the world over, you're the only one.
- 1:05:48Speaker 7: Because in a movie, I'm like, I don't even fucking
- 1:05:51Speaker 7: care about this.
- 1:05:52Speaker 6: Get out.
- 1:05:53Speaker 7: There's only like one movie.
- 1:05:53Speaker 9: You're not allowed to stay at a geek convention and
- 1:05:56Speaker 9: talk bad about Star Wars.
- 1:05:58Speaker 7: I've only seen him maybe once each. And the first
- 1:06:00Speaker 7: times I watched him was with you and Sammy overdubbing
- 1:06:03Speaker 7: the entire fucking thing.
- 1:06:05Speaker 9: Phantom Menace, you can trash all you want, and you
- 1:06:07Speaker 9: can pretty much talk bad about.
- 1:06:08Speaker 6: The other two as well.
- 1:06:11Speaker 7: At least Phantom Menace had Darth Maul.
- 1:06:13Speaker 6: Darth Maul is the only.
- 1:06:14Speaker 7: Not that I hate them, I just don't give a
- 1:06:16Speaker 7: shit about the new ones.
- 1:06:18Speaker 9: But the new ones have potential. I'm looking forward to
- 1:06:21Speaker 9: the new ones. Because George isn't involved anymore. No offense,
- 1:06:24Speaker 9: I've gotten to the point, I've come back around, like.
- 1:06:26Speaker 6: Now that he's not.
- 1:06:28Speaker 9: Now that he's not involved in any way, shape, or form,
- 1:06:32Speaker 9: I've actually come back around and I'm like, actually.
- 1:06:35Speaker 6: I'm talking about good things that he did on those first... Well,
- 1:06:38Speaker 6: that one. The one that he directed.
- 1:06:40Speaker 9: But I'm like, I've actually come back around to being like, Wow,
- 1:06:43Speaker 9: he really was visionary. Wow, he really did a great
- 1:06:45Speaker 9: job directing that movie. He did a good job running
- 1:06:48Speaker 9: that first two and a half-ish. He did some pretty
- 1:06:52Speaker 9: amazing things. He totally revolutionized the film industry, the toy industry, marketing, sound,
- 1:07:00Speaker 9: special effects.
- 1:07:01Speaker 6: He really made an.
- 1:07:03Speaker 9: Impact on film that will forever massively have changed it.
- 1:07:08Speaker 9: So I'm glad that he's not involved because it gives
- 1:07:11Speaker 9: me a reason to like him again. It's like I
- 1:07:14Speaker 9: got so annoyed with the prequel nonsense that I really
- 1:07:17Speaker 9: was not.
- 1:07:18Speaker 6: Thrilled with him.
- 1:07:19Speaker 9: So I think a lot of geeks were in that
- 1:07:22Speaker 9: place and maybe now we can come back around and
- 1:07:24Speaker 9: be like, you know what? He made us a great
- 1:07:25Speaker 9: movie that led to this franchise. That's not one I
- 1:07:28Speaker 9: think I need to go see in the theater.
- 1:07:31Speaker 6: You're doing it wrong.
- 1:07:32Speaker 7: There's only one movie coming out this year that I
- 1:07:34Speaker 7: feel like, it's like, okay, I need to go.
- 1:07:36Speaker 6: See this movie.
- 1:07:37Speaker 7: Crimson Peak.
- 1:07:39Speaker 6: It did look very cool.
- 1:07:40Speaker 7: It looked fucking fantastic. It did look very cool. Well,
- 1:07:45Speaker 7: first of all, it's got Tom Hiddleston, who we all
- 1:07:47Speaker 7: know I gotta thank for. Again, British.
- 1:07:49Speaker 9: Yeah, again, I don't know who this Misty is that
- 1:07:52Speaker 9: has emerged in the last few years, but she has
- 1:07:54Speaker 9: definitely killed.
- 1:07:55Speaker 6: The old Misty.
- 1:07:56Speaker 7: But it's different because I still stick with hating British comedy.
- 1:08:00Speaker 6: Well, it is a very specific thing.
- 1:08:02Speaker 7: British comedy sucks.
- 1:08:04Speaker 6: It's an acquired taste. I'll put it that way.
- 1:08:07Speaker 9: Because there's a lot of it that's a lot of
- 1:08:09Speaker 9: what is considered the popular stuff that I never took to.
- 1:08:12Speaker 9: I was all about some young ones. But even that,
- 1:08:14Speaker 9: it took me a long time to eat. If MTV
- 1:08:17Speaker 9: didn't just repeat it every week and there's only a
- 1:08:19Speaker 9: handful of episodes.
- 1:08:20Speaker 6: So I saw them over and over and over again.
- 1:08:22Speaker 9: And eventually I started to get how their humor were,
- 1:08:26Speaker 9: especially those guys.
- 1:08:27Speaker 6: They have a very specific style. So it's like I
- 1:08:30Speaker 6: got on board with that and then I tried.
- 1:08:32Speaker 11: But.
- 1:08:32Speaker 9: Most of what most people like is British, especially the
- 1:08:36Speaker 9: older run of, like, TV British comedy.
- 1:08:39Speaker 6: I really wasn't that taken with either.
- 1:08:41Speaker 7: Well, Boyfriend's all about absolutely fabulous. I remember that got huge, like,
- 1:08:47Speaker 7: out of nowhere. And I remember them, like, selling.
- 1:08:49Speaker 6: Boxes of the VHSs. That's how far back this goes. And, like,
- 1:08:54Speaker 6: there's moments that are funny.
- 1:08:55Speaker 9: Like, i that one's funnier than a lot of the
- 1:08:57Speaker 9: other stuff before that but i feel like even that
- 1:09:01Speaker 9: is it's got such a weird british spin to it
- 1:09:04Speaker 9: that like you kind of have to either get it
- 1:09:06Speaker 9: or you don't.
- 1:09:07Speaker 7: But anyways i was kind of afraid because i figured
- 1:09:09Speaker 7: my love for tom hiddleston was it seemed like it
- 1:09:12Speaker 7: was getting kind of narrowed down like Is he just
- 1:09:14Speaker 7: going to be Loki for me? Is that all I'm
- 1:09:16Speaker 7: going to have? I only love Loki. For a while,
- 1:09:18Speaker 7: I was beginning to wonder because he kept doing other
- 1:09:19Speaker 7: things and I'm like, no.
- 1:09:21Speaker 1: No, dude.
- 1:09:21Speaker 7: Keep on moving. But then I saw the trailer for
- 1:09:23Speaker 7: Crimson Peak and I'm like, holy shit. He's my new
- 1:09:27Speaker 7: Loki in this one because he's not Loki, but he's
- 1:09:29Speaker 7: my new... I'm like, I can dig this.
- 1:09:33Speaker 6: I can get into this guy. I can.
- 1:09:34Speaker 7: I can totally dig this. And the trailer looks so
- 1:09:37Speaker 7: fucking amazing.
- 1:09:38Speaker 6: You sent it to me. It looks really good.
- 1:09:40Speaker 7: No, you watched it at my house. On my couch.
- 1:09:43Speaker 7: I made you watch the trailer because you were like, yeah,
- 1:09:46Speaker 7: that's why you like it. It's got Loki in it.
- 1:09:48Speaker 9: I remember.
- 1:09:49Speaker 7: What's the director's name? Did he write it too? I
- 1:09:51Speaker 7: can't say his name, so I'm trying to pawn it
- 1:09:52Speaker 7: off on you.
- 1:09:53Speaker 6: Isn't it Del Toro?
- 1:09:54Speaker 7: See, that's when you go for the first names. I
- 1:09:56Speaker 7: couldn't do the first. It's Guadalamo. I can't do it.
- 1:10:01Speaker 6: Guillermo Del Toro.
- 1:10:02Speaker 11: Yeah.
- 1:10:02Speaker 7: I can't say it, so that's why I was, you know.
- 1:10:04Speaker 7: But anyways.
- 1:10:05Speaker 6: I butcher most names. I just heard that one a lot.
- 1:10:09Speaker 7: I didn't watch Pacific Rim.
- 1:10:09Speaker 1: Was that his last movie?
- 1:10:10Speaker 8: Yeah.
- 1:10:10Speaker 9: I believe so, because I feel like he kind of
- 1:10:13Speaker 9: needed to redeem himself a little bit.
- 1:10:15Speaker 7: Anyways, the trailer for Crimson Peak looks fucking amazing.
- 1:10:17Speaker 6: And he is, based on that trailer, he is redeeming.
- 1:10:20Speaker 6: Not that Pacific Rim's bad.
- 1:10:23Speaker 7: It just wasn't.
- 1:10:24Speaker 9: I expected a little more out of him and just
- 1:10:27Speaker 9: from what they built it up to be.
- 1:10:28Speaker 6: And it's fun.
- 1:10:29Speaker 9: It's serviceable as an action, you know, things hitting each
- 1:10:33Speaker 9: other kind of a movie.
- 1:10:33Speaker 6: It's fine. But this looks above and beyond that. It
- 1:10:37Speaker 6: looks pretty impressive. There's ghosts.
- 1:10:41Speaker 8: Oh my god.
- 1:10:43Speaker 7: So spooky.
- 1:10:47Speaker 6: You're special.
- 1:10:48Speaker 1: I like spooky movies.
- 1:10:50Speaker 6: Very special.
- 1:10:51Speaker 7: I like scary movies and there's not very many good
- 1:10:53Speaker 7: ones of those. There's not. Anything else? Are we done now?
- 1:11:03Speaker 6: You did say your jibber-jabbers.
- 1:11:04Speaker 7: Jibber-jabbers. That's what I do. I jibber-jabber a lot.
- 1:11:08Speaker 6: Do you have more jibber-jabbers for them?
- 1:11:11Speaker 7: I might need more Pop-Tarts, though. I'm getting hungry again.
- 1:11:14Speaker 6: That does not surprise me.
- 1:11:15Speaker 1: All right.
- 1:11:16Speaker 9: I think that rounds out this episode. There will be
- 1:11:18Speaker 9: more Wonderfest coverage coming your way in the near future.
- 1:11:22Speaker 9: But in the meantime, tell them goodbye, Misty.
- 1:11:24Speaker 7: Goodbye, Misty.
- 1:11:25Speaker 6: Otherwise, that about does it. We will return next time.
- 1:11:27Speaker 6: Same geek feed. Thanks for listening.
- 1:11:29Speaker 17: There's a humming in the rest of summer air. And
- 1:11:32Speaker 17: we're slipping off the course that we prepared. But in
- 1:11:36Speaker 17: all chaos, there is calculation. Dropping glasses just to hear
- 1:11:41Speaker 17: them break. You've been drinking like the world was going
- 1:11:44Speaker 17: to end. Took a shot from a fist of your
- 1:11:47Speaker 17: best friend. It's clear that someone's got to go. We
- 1:11:52Speaker 17: mean it, but I promise we're not mean.
- 1:11:55Speaker 8: And the cry goes out. Oh, oh, oh.
- 1:12:01Speaker 17: Feels are mine for us and how it plays out.
- 1:12:06Speaker 17: And now we're in the ring and we're coming for blood.
- 1:12:11Speaker 12: You could try and take us. But we're the gladiators.
- 1:12:16Speaker 15: If you wanna rage at us.
- 1:12:20Speaker 16: We're secretly the saviors. Glory and gore go hand in hand.
- 1:12:27Speaker 8: That's why we're making headlines.
- 1:12:31Speaker 12: You can try and take us But.
- 1:12:34Speaker 8: Victory's contagious.
- 1:12:39Speaker 17: Delicate in every way but one God knows we like
- 1:12:43Speaker 17: our clear kinds of fun Chance is the only game
- 1:12:47Speaker 17: I play with, baby We let our battles choose us
- 1:12:52Speaker 17: And the choir goes loud They lose their minds for
- 1:12:58Speaker 17: us and how it plays out And now we're in
- 1:13:03Speaker 17: the ring and we're coming for blood.
- 1:13:07Speaker 12: You could try and take us.
- 1:13:11Speaker 15: But with the gladiators Everyone a ranger They're.
- 1:13:17Speaker 16: Secretly their saviors Glory and gore go hand in hand
- 1:13:24Speaker 16: That's why we're making headlines.
- 1:13:27Speaker 8: You can try.
- 1:13:29Speaker 14: And take us But.
- 1:13:31Speaker 8: Victory's contagious.
- 1:13:36Speaker 17: No one around here's good at keeping their eyes closed
- 1:13:42Speaker 17: The sun's starting to light up when we're walking home
- 1:13:49Speaker 17: Tired little laughs, gold lie promises We'll always win at this,
- 1:13:54Speaker 17: I don't ever think about death It's alright if you do,
- 1:13:59Speaker 17: it's fine We gladiate, but I guess we're really fighting
- 1:14:05Speaker 17: ourselves Roughing up our minds so we're ready when the
- 1:14:12Speaker 17: kill time comes wide awake in bed words in my
- 1:14:18Speaker 17: brain secretly.
- 1:14:20Speaker 8: You love this do you.
- 1:14:21Speaker 17: Even want to go free let me in the ring
- 1:14:25Speaker 17: i'll show you what that big word means.
- 1:14:31Speaker 12: I thought the show was over. Why am I still talking?
- 1:14:36Speaker 8: Because you talked.
- 1:15:01Speaker 7: I do talk. I talk a lot.
- 1:15:04Speaker 9: Oh, by the way, the building might be on fire
- 1:15:07Speaker 9: and you might all die. You might want to exit
- 1:15:09Speaker 9: any time in the near future.
- 1:15:10Speaker 7: That was weird.
- 1:15:18Speaker 6: I'm hungry.
- 1:15:19Speaker 7: Part of me really wants some nachos, but I know
- 1:15:22Speaker 7: they will kill me. Yeah, my blood is not on these.
- 1:15:28Speaker 11: Yet.
- 1:15:30Speaker 7: Kind of like his boogie eyes. Yeah.
- 1:15:36Speaker 6: What was that?
- 1:15:37Speaker 7: All I heard was because of a pervert. The things
- 1:15:41Speaker 7: you hear at the Wonderfest.
- 1:15:46Speaker 1: I don't believe that.
- 1:15:47Speaker 7: She's fine.
- 1:15:49Speaker 8: She does have issues.
- 1:15:51Speaker 7: I do have issues.
- 1:15:54Speaker 1: Who doesn't?
- 1:15:55Speaker 8: I have all of the issues.
- 1:15:58Speaker 6: That's possibly true.
- 1:16:00Speaker 7: Oh, sweet baby Jesus, I just heard him talk.
- 1:16:05Speaker 6: I told you.
- 1:16:07Speaker 7: If ever there was a nerd who was a nerd,
- 1:16:09Speaker 7: that's the nerd.
- 1:16:09Speaker 1: I made it in the bathroom with Romero.
- 1:16:13Speaker 7: It's Godzilla the Ninja. I couldn't even sleep last night.
- 1:16:18Speaker 7: I had nightmares about not being able to find the
- 1:16:21Speaker 7: free things.
- 1:16:22Speaker 6: The sad thing is, this is all real.
- 1:16:24Speaker 7: I can't make this shit up.
- 1:16:27Speaker 3: Why would you?
- 1:16:27Speaker 7: Exactly.
- 1:16:29Speaker 6: No, really, why would you?
- 1:16:32Speaker 1: We're keeping all this on the podcast, by the way.
- 1:16:36Speaker 10: This episode is a production of Movie Meltdown, produced and
