Latest / Brandon Fogal Evolution / #87 - Inside the Signal Chat with Trump’s Inner Circle
Transcript
- 0:00Atlantic reporter Jeffrey Goldberg finds himself in the middle of a group chat
- 0:05on Signal with 18 Trump officials, and they're discussing matters of national intelligence.
- 0:12This is wild, wild stuff. My name is Brandon Fogle. This is Evolution.
- 0:18Let's get into it. So have you ever found yourself in a place that you're like,
- 0:22am I really supposed to be here? I'm not really supposed to be here.
- 0:26I immediately go to Black Sheep with Chris Farley, and he finds himself on stage.
- 0:30When his, for his brother's campaign, who's running for governor,
- 0:33he's like, I'm not really supposed to be here.
- 0:36And then he, he just goes off the rails and he ends up saying, kill Whitey.
- 0:41And I, everybody, no, no, this is, this is almost to that level.
- 0:48This is almost to that level.
- 0:49How do you find yourself in the middle
- 0:50of a group chat with top government officials and you're a reporter.
- 0:57Did something happen? Did the NSA kind of sneak them in there?
- 1:00Are there still some levels in the deep state that are behind the scenes trying
- 1:04to just mess up this administration?
- 1:08Or was this a blunder by the Trump officials by doing this?
- 1:13Were they just not careful? I mean, we've all been there. We've all been there.
- 1:16You're like, why am I a part of this chat?
- 1:18Why am I a part of this chat? Your phone's just going off the roof.
- 1:22Notification, Bing, bing, bing, bing, bing.
- 1:23Take me out of this chat, please. We've all been there.
- 1:27We know what it's like. So it's like, why didn't he say something, you know?
- 1:32I'm not really supposed to be here, guys. You know, I am a reporter.
- 1:36I mean, it could have been just a regular guy.
- 1:38So either a blunder by the Trump officials or something else was working.
- 1:44Something else was working. He claims complete, you know, he had nothing to
- 1:48do with it. He doesn't even know how to work his phone.
- 1:50He doesn't know how to do a lot of things. He doesn't know how to take a screenshot
- 1:53on his phone or anything like that. So he couldn't have done it.
- 1:55But doesn't mean that other people couldn't have done something.
- 1:58You know, everybody is always trying to trip them up.
- 2:01But either way, it's wild nonetheless. There's either a screw up on one side
- 2:05or there's some nefarious working that is happening that is trying to thwart
- 2:10this administration at every turn.
- 2:12Let's take a look at the, this is a report from CBS News. You can see on the
- 2:17screen, this is Jeffrey Goldberg.
- 2:21So I'd never heard of him until this event that just happened. So you can see his face.
- 2:27There he is. And you should check out the whole video. You can go to CBS news
- 2:30and it's all over the internet.
- 2:31It's on the app called signal. I don't use signal myself, but it's not a secure chat, you know?
- 2:39And it's like, so now the argument is, were they doing something wrong?
- 2:42Were these, was this a mistake? And they're talking about like bombing Yemen.
- 2:47And after they, these Hudi, Hudi, Hudi rebels,
- 2:51you can pronounce it Hudi, Hudi and the blowfish, these
- 2:54hootie rebels and they're and they're they're they're
- 2:57throwing emojis out there that they they just drop some
- 3:00bombs they're like we don't want to step in and save europe's butt again you
- 3:04know and it's peak headseth it's it's vp vance john ratcliffe and even like
- 3:12vance is saying crazy things i can understand why they're talking like this
- 3:16this is just how regular people talk But they're talking about national security.
- 3:20Sending bombs just to step in and save someone's butt,
- 3:24you know, and the phrasing that they use is just wild, just saying you would
- 3:28say in a text message, but they're not doing it on a secure line.
- 3:32And then this reporter finds himself just front and center.
- 3:35He thinks it's a joke at first. He says he does. I don't know. I don't know.
- 3:40I would give him the benefit of the doubt. I think he just, but he didn't voice
- 3:44anything. He didn't say anything. He's just watching it happen.
- 3:48And that he came forward with this. It's kind of a weird deal in itself.
- 3:52And he says he's doing it because that Trump is saying that it was nothing.
- 3:56There was no top secret information that was happening, whereas they had to redact.
- 4:02Not everything was revealed and put out there. There was redacted information.
- 4:06Then not everything got put out there. So we got J.D. Vance, Peek Head Seth.
- 4:12What else we got? John Ratcoult. There's a lot of different people that are
- 4:15on on this, this message, you know, it's like, but they don't know.
- 4:18I mean, why couldn't we have done this through email?
- 4:21But I mean, they got to talk through something that maybe they just,
- 4:24they, they, I think these guys, they, they expect the people that are.
- 4:31The the administration people underneath them would kind of secure this.
- 4:35They're not they're just stepping in it and they're having conversation,
- 4:37maybe not doing their due diligence of everything.
- 4:40Who's on this chat? We need to make sure we got every name. But it's like,
- 4:44why don't they got a little checkmark or something that validates every person on there?
- 4:47I don't know. It's just a whole weird situation.
- 4:50But like they're just it's just absolutely wild.
- 4:54But I think from both ends, the reporter needs to say something immediately.
- 4:58Like I'm in this chat guys do you understand so it's like remove some culpability there,
- 5:03but then also these it was
- 5:06a blunder if they did screw this up they have said that we did we did not do
- 5:10anything wrong they're standing by that position they're not saying they're
- 5:14not saying oh we screwed up right here and just taking it from there I think
- 5:18it's because that they know what the other side would do and it's just the double
- 5:21standard so it's hard to take these things seriously,
- 5:24when we're like so upset about this top secret clearance kind of issue.
- 5:30But when Hillary Clinton and Joe Biden and all the, it's like whatever team
- 5:34you're on, it's all about teams.
- 5:36So it's like, you can't give the other side an inch because they'll just tear
- 5:40you to pieces where they don't hold their own side accountable.
- 5:44So it's ridiculous from both ends, but it's hilarious in a huge sense.
- 5:50So it's absolutely wild that this happened, but it's human fallibility. People are not perfect.
- 5:58Our politicians aren't perfect. J.D. Vance isn't perfect.
- 6:02The people that are in our government aren't perfect. So should they have said,
- 6:07we screwed up, but yeah, we made a blunder.
- 6:10Or should they have a hard stance, no, we did nothing wrong, nothing to see here.
- 6:15Is that going to get them in more hot water by that? I don't think they should
- 6:19show any weakness. They shouldn't say, oh, we screwed up here.
- 6:23Because you think that the Dems, the left is going to stop.
- 6:26They're going to like try to,
- 6:28and it's that double standard that they wouldn't hold their own side to.
- 6:31So I think that my opinion, they screwed up. They screwed up by allowing this to happen.
- 6:36But I don't think they screwed up by just, they don't need to just say we did something wrong.
- 6:41They need to have that hard stance and just correct it, correct it on their side.
- 6:47But we all know that they might have screwed up unless there is something underneath
- 6:52the surface, some person pulling the strings in that deep state that is doing something here.
- 6:57So there could be that as well. So I'm not going to discount that.
- 7:01I just watched a video just a little bit ago of a couple years ago with Tucker
- 7:06Carlson in his personal group chat, in his chat that he's messaging back and forth.
- 7:12The NSA is watching. They're always watching. They're always watching.
- 7:15And he's like, what the heck?
- 7:18If we don't have privacy, like
- 7:20if we don't have freedom of thought and privacy, we don't have freedom.
- 7:24And this is where I get into the new age, the new, like the new generation.
- 7:30We are like, we are, we come to expect.
- 7:33And I mean, and we, and really the up and coming, the up and coming new youngins
- 7:40and even my generation, I don't really care that all my information is out there.
- 7:44I don't really care that the government is listening.
- 7:48I don't really care that we're being watched every second and all the only privacy
- 7:51we have is inside of our head anymore.
- 7:54And but the older generation, that was their firm stance. We cannot have this.
- 7:59You need to be able to have privacy.
- 8:01You can't be expected to just bend over and let the government just have everything
- 8:06at you that they just have all free reign and they can just watch you.
- 8:11They can listen to you, everything. You know, there's no freedom in that privacy.
- 8:15It's just this balance now.
- 8:16Like maybe the earlier generation had it right.
- 8:19Maybe we shouldn't give an inch. But I think it's just where everything in our,
- 8:23in the youngins, especially the new ones, everything is out there.
- 8:27You post everything because you want everybody to watch. So it's like the...
- 8:33Who cares if the government's watching? We're putting everything out there anyways.
- 8:36So it's this complete flip. So is, I don't know, is that a bad direction?
- 8:40Is that a good direction?
- 8:41Is that neutral? Does it matter?
- 8:44I have my opinion. Like, I don't really care that, I mean, I've just taken for
- 8:48granted that the government's always watching.
- 8:50It doesn't, you know, but like, I can understand why that's a bad deal.
- 8:54And we probably shouldn't just do that.
- 8:56You know, I think it's just, we are frogs just heated up in a pot and we've
- 9:00just, we're just there now. We're like burning alive, but we had no idea.
- 9:05And they've just done this slow burn and we're just like, whatever,
- 9:08you know, and, and this is all the new, the new kids on the block know these
- 9:12days, this is all they know. So that's just the way it is.
- 9:15But so you find yourself in a group chat. What are you going to do?
- 9:18Are you going to be like Jeffrey Goldblum and just wait it out and watch these,
- 9:22them talk about that they're going to send some bombs and then it happens.
- 9:26And then you're just like, oh my gosh.
- 9:28And then a couple weeks later you come out and say hey i
- 9:31actually saw this i'm releasing the transcript and all that who's on
- 9:34the who's in the right who's in the wrong there's a lot of gray in
- 9:37there there's a lot of like undisclosed information i
- 9:40think more stuff is going to come out because this is the news cycle this is
- 9:44what the left wants to talk about they got some news they got something they're
- 9:47going to try to pin on trump you know pin on his administration trump and the
- 9:52guys they're doing the right thing they're not don't give them an inch they
- 9:55might be in the right completely They might not have done anything wrong,
- 9:58but maybe talk about these things in a more secure manner.
- 10:03Maybe talk about them in a more secure manner. So what do you all think?
- 10:07Keep evolving to become the greatest person that you know you can become.
