- 0:40Today, we're going to zoom into the world of fast motorcycles,
- 0:44daring races, and one of the greatest riders ever, Valentino
- 0:48Rossi. If you love learning about
- 0:50sports stars, teamwork, and chasing big dreams, you're in
- 0:54for a treat. Let's get started by answering a
- 0:57big question, Who is Valentino Rossi?
- 1:00Valentino Rossi is a famous Italian motorcycle racer.
- 1:04He's known all around the world for winning races and
- 1:07championships on super fast bikes.
- 1:10He was born on February 16th, 1979 in a town called Urbino in
- 1:16Italy. Valentino's dad, Graziano Rossi,
- 1:19was also a motorcycle racer. So Valentino grew up in a family
- 1:24that loved racing. Even when he was a young kid,
- 1:27Valentino was interested in motorcycles and speed.
- 1:31When Valentino was very young he started riding go karts and mini
- 1:35motorbikes. A go Kart is a small car that
- 1:38kids and adults used to race for fun.
- 1:41Valentinos first go Kart had a tiny engine, but he loved going
- 1:46as fast as he could. He quickly learned how to handle
- 1:49speed and control, which is super important for any racer.
- 1:53Soon Valentino moved from go karts to mini motorbikes, which
- 1:57are small motorcycles made for children and beginners.
- 2:00Now you might be wondering what makes motorcycle racing
- 2:04different from car racing. Well, in motorcycle racing,
- 2:08riders have to balance on two wheels while going really fast.
- 2:12They need to lean their bikes into sharp turns, sometimes just
- 2:15inches from the ground, and they have to wear special suits,
- 2:18helmets, gloves and boots to protect themselves.
- 2:22Motorcycle racing is all about speed, balance, bravery and
- 2:27quick reactions. Valentino's first big step into
- 2:30racing happened when he was just 14 years old.
- 2:33He raced in the Italian 125 Cubic Centimeters Championship.
- 2:38The 125 cubic centimeters means the size of the engine in the
- 2:43bike. It's a way to keep races fair,
- 2:46so all the bikes are similar in power.
- 2:48Even as a teenager, Valentino was talented, and he quickly
- 2:53made a name for himself by winning races and showing great
- 2:56skill. Did you know that Valentino
- 2:58Rossi has a special nickname? People call him the Doctor.
- 3:03Isn't that interesting? Nobody is completely sure why he
- 3:06picked that nickname, but some say it's because in Italy, the
- 3:10Doctor is a way to show respect for someone who is an expert in
- 3:13their field. Valentino is definitely an
- 3:16expert on motorcycles. Let's take a moment for our
- 3:19first trivia question. Can you guess how many World
- 3:23Championships Valentino Rossi has won during his career?
- 3:29The answer is 9. Valentino Rossi has won nine
- 3:33motorcycle World Championships. That means he was the best in
- 3:37the world nine times in his career.
- 3:40That's a huge achievement. Valentino started racing in the
- 3:44World Championships in 1996 when he was just 17 years old.
- 3:49He began in the 125 cubic centimeters class, which is the
- 3:54entry level for the world championship.
- 3:56Valentino quickly showed his talent and won his first world
- 4:00championship in 1997. After that, he moved up to
- 4:04bigger and faster bikes, racing in the 250 cubic centimeters
- 4:08class and then finally the top class, which is called Moto GP.
- 4:13Moto GP is the highest level of motorcycle racing in the world.
- 4:17The bikes in Moto GP can go over 350 kilometers per hour, which
- 4:22is about 217 mph. Imagine going that fast on two
- 4:27wheels. It takes a lot of training,
- 4:30courage and skill to ride at those speeds.
- 4:33Valentino Rossi won his first Moto GP World championship in
- 4:372002, and then he kept winning more titles in the following
- 4:41years. Here's a did you know moment.
- 4:44Valentino Rossi is the only rider in history to win World
- 4:47Championships in four different classes. 125 cubic centimeters,
- 4:52250 cubic centimeters, 500 cubic centimeters and Moto GP.
- 4:58That shows how adaptable and talented he is.
- 5:01No matter how much the bikes changed, he could win on any of
- 5:04them. Now let's try a yes or no
- 5:07question to keep you thinking. Do you think Valentino Rossi
- 5:11ever raced for a Japanese team called Yamaha?
- 5:17The answer is yes. Valentino joined the Yamaha team
- 5:21in 2004 and he helped them win many races and championships.
- 5:26Yamaha is famous for making fast, reliable bikes and
- 5:30Valentino became a legend riding for them.
- 5:33Valentino Rossi is not just famous for winning races.
- 5:37He's also known for his fun personality and for celebrating
- 5:40his victories in creative ways. Sometimes after winning a race,
- 5:45he would stop his bike and do something silly like putting on
- 5:48a wig, waving a funny flag, or making jokes with his team.
- 5:53Fans loved these celebrations and it made watching the races
- 5:57even more exciting. Valentino also started his own
- 6:00racing team called the VR46 Academy.
- 6:04This team helps young Italian riders learn how to race and
- 6:07improve their skills. Valentino wanted to give back to
- 6:11the sport and help the next generation of racers follow
- 6:14their dreams. Many current Moto GP riders
- 6:17trained with Valentino and learned from his experience.
- 6:21Let's take another trivia question.
- 6:23What does VR in VR46 Academy stand for?
- 6:30The answer is Valentino Rossi. The number 46 is his racing
- 6:34number, which he used throughout his entire career.
- 6:38Valentino picked the number 46 because it was the same number
- 6:41his dad used when he was a racer.
- 6:43Even when Valentino became very famous, he kept the number 46 to
- 6:48honor his family and his roots. Fans all over the world wear
- 6:52hats, shirts, and flags with the number 46 to support him.
- 6:57Here's another yes or no question.
- 6:59Do you think Valentino Rossi ever raced in Formula One, which
- 7:03is the top level of car racing? The answer is no.
- 7:10Valentino never raced in Formula One, but he did test drive a
- 7:14Formula One car for fun. He loved trying different types
- 7:18of racing, but he always chose to stay with motorcycles.
- 7:22Valentino's career lasted for over 25 years, which is a very
- 7:26long time in professional sports.
- 7:29He raced against many other great riders and won more than
- 7:32100 races. That's more than most riders
- 7:36ever dream of. Even when he was older than many
- 7:39of his competitors, he still raced at the top level and was
- 7:42always a fan favorite. Let's try another trivia
- 7:45question. Can you guess in which year
- 7:48Valentino Rossi retired from Moto GP racing?
- 7:54The answer is 2021. Valentino announced his
- 7:58retirement at the end of the 2021 season after an amazing
- 8:02career filled with excitement, success, and memories.
- 8:06After retiring from Moto GP, Valentino didn't leave racing
- 8:11behind. He started racing cars in
- 8:13different competitions and continued to run his VR46
- 8:17Academy to help young racers. He also spends more time with
- 8:21his family and friends, but you can still see him at the race
