- Lucas: Ciao, and welcome back to Learn Italian with Fexingo. I'm Lucas. Luna: And I'm Luna. Ready for another tiny Italian lesson? Lucas: Absolutely. Today, we're going to describe a fountain in a park. You know, those lovely fountains you see in Italian piazzas? Luna: Oh, I love those! I always stop and watch the water. Lucas: Me too. So let's start with the word for fountain: la fontana. Luna: La fontana. Lucas: Good. And water is l'acqua. Luna: L'acqua. That one is easy because it's like 'aqua'. Lucas: Exactly. Now, to say 'the fountain is beautiful', you say: La fontana è bella. Luna: La fontana è bella. Lucas: Perfect. È bella means 'is beautiful'. Notice that we use 'bella' because fontana is feminine. Luna: Right, Italian words have genders. So if it were a masculine word, we'd say 'bello'? Lucas: Exactly. Now, to say 'the water falls', you can say: L'acqua cade. Luna: L'acqua cade. Cade means 'falls'? Lucas: Yes, from the verb cadere, to fall. And to describe the height: La fontana è alta – the fountain is tall. Luna: La fontana è alta. So 'alta' means tall. Lucas: Right. Let's put it together. Imagine we're looking at a fountain. I'll say: Guarda la fontana! L'acqua cade. La fontana è bella e alta. Luna: Guarda la fontana! L'acqua cade. La fontana è bella e alta. That's a nice sentence. Lucas: Now you try. Describe the fountain. Luna: Uhh... La fontana è bella. L'acqua cade. La fontana è alta. Lucas: Perfect! You did it. Let's practice a bit more. Repeat after me: la fontana. Luna: La fontana. Lucas: L'acqua. Luna: L'acqua. Lucas: È bella. Luna: È bella. Lucas: L'acqua cade. Luna: L'acqua cade. Lucas: La fontana è alta. Luna: La fontana è alta. Lucas: Excellent. Now, a quick scene. Imagine you're at a park in Rome. You see a big fountain. You want to tell your friend: 'Look at the fountain! The water falls. The fountain is beautiful and tall.' How would you say that? Luna: Guarda la fontana! L'acqua cade. La fontana è bella e alta. Lucas: Perfect! That's exactly it. You're ready to describe any fountain now. Luna: You know, I've been using Fexingo to practice, and it really helps. If you've gotten something out of these lessons, a couple of dollars a month makes a real difference. You can support us at buy me a coffee dot com slash fexingo. Lucas: Yeah, it's a small thing that keeps the show ad-free and running. We appreciate every bit of support. Luna: Totally. Now, back to our fountain. Let's try a longer description. I'll say: 'I see a fountain. The water falls slowly. The fountain is very beautiful.' In Italian: Vedo una fontana. L'acqua cade lentamente. La fontana è molto bella. Lucas: That's great, Luna. 'Lentamente' means slowly. And 'molto' means very. So 'molto bella' – very beautiful. Luna: Can you repeat that sentence slowly? Lucas: Of course. Vedo una fontana. L'acqua cade lentamente. La fontana è molto bella. Luna: Vedo una fontana. L'acqua cade lentamente. La fontana è molto bella. Lucas: Perfect. Now you try, but change 'lentamente' to 'velocemente' – quickly. Luna: Vedo una fontana. L'acqua cade velocemente. La fontana è molto bella. Lucas: Yes! Velocemente – quickly. You're picking it up fast. Luna: It's all the repetition. So, to review today: we learned la fontana, l'acqua, è bella, l'acqua cade, and la fontana è alta. Lucas: That's right. And you can combine them to describe any fountain. Let's do one more quick call-back. Remember last episode we described a fountain? Today we built on that with water falling and height. Luna: Yes, and it's all connected. Practice these phrases, and you'll be describing fountains like a local. Lucas: That's all for today. Keep practicing, and we'll see you next time. Ciao! Luna: Ciao!
