Transcript
- 0:00Speaker 1: Beautiful.
- 0:01Speaker 2: All right, well thanks for joining us today at heavy.
- 0:04Speaker 2: We're coming at you from the Paddochavin in Brisbane, one
- 0:07Speaker 2: of the best places to go and drink it from myself,
- 0:10Speaker 2: and we are here with Chris Kale from five Figure
- 0:13Speaker 2: Death Punch and the guy who stands up to the comedy.
- 0:15Speaker 1: So yes, sir, good to see you. Certain things for
- 0:17Speaker 1: coming out and helping us out promoting these shows and whatnot.
- 0:20Speaker 2: I appreciate you absolutely pleasure. And speaking of the shows, mate,
- 0:23Speaker 2: you have two thirds of the way through the Joy.
- 0:25Speaker 2: You've done a couple of shows in Melbourne. Yes, have
- 0:26Speaker 2: they be going.
- 0:27Speaker 1: It's been incredible, Like we had very a very short
- 0:31Speaker 1: time to be able to promote these shows. So the
- 0:33Speaker 1: amount of support that we've had and the number of
- 0:35Speaker 1: people that we got in there, I'm basically a week
- 0:37Speaker 1: of promoting the show was awesome. Did a stand up
- 0:40Speaker 1: comedy show in Melbourne at the Comics Lounge on Friday
- 0:44Speaker 1: night and then we went to go see Metallica on Saturday.
- 0:47Speaker 1: That's basically all we're doing. Shit funding on vacation, that's
- 0:52Speaker 1: all it is. You know. I have found ways to
- 0:54Speaker 1: make money to be able to travel while off the
- 0:57Speaker 1: road with Death Punch and I saw the Male was
- 1:00Speaker 1: playing over here, so's I mean you know I am
- 1:05Speaker 1: a marketing aficionado for sure. Yeah, so yeah, what better
- 1:10Speaker 1: way to be able to go out and see my
- 1:11Speaker 1: old friends and Metallica because we toured with them the
- 1:14Speaker 1: last couple of years, going all around the world. But
- 1:17Speaker 1: we're working on a new record right now, so this
- 1:20Speaker 1: gave me the opportunity to come over see Metallica, get
- 1:22Speaker 1: the comedy show going. So we have those shows in
- 1:24Speaker 1: Melbourne and then tomorrow I'm not sure when this airs.
- 1:28Speaker 1: November eleventh. Here in Brisbane, we're playing over at the
- 1:32Speaker 1: Good Chat Comedy Club. We're doing a show at seven
- 1:34Speaker 1: o'clock and at eight thirty. So yeah, me and Craig.
- 1:38Speaker 1: Craig Gas is a stand up comedian, an actual stand
- 1:40Speaker 1: up comedian, not a bass player, who's brand new basically
- 1:44Speaker 1: telling stories about life on the road. He's been doing
- 1:48Speaker 1: it for about twenty five years. He's been on King
- 1:50Speaker 1: of Queens, the Howard Sterns Show. Funny story about Craig, Well,
- 1:54Speaker 1: I don't know if it's funny or not, but you know,
- 1:56Speaker 1: it's his story. When he was growing up, he was
- 1:59Speaker 1: the only person and his family who could hear his
- 2:02Speaker 1: entire family is death except for him. Oh yeah, indeed,
- 2:06Speaker 1: yeah that later in life he was telling me. He' said, yeah,
- 2:08Speaker 1: my therapist said that I've got communication issues. Duh, your
- 2:14Speaker 1: family's deaf, Craig, duh, yeah, he goes, Oh my god,
- 2:19Speaker 1: I got to use that. So I'm helping him with
- 2:21Speaker 1: his act too these days. But yeah, we're both going
- 2:24Speaker 1: to be doing some stand up comedy here in Brisbane
- 2:27Speaker 1: at Good Chat seven o'clock eight thirty on November eleventh,
- 2:31Speaker 1: and yeah, just having a really good time with it.
- 2:33Speaker 1: This has been nice for me. The whole thing started
- 2:35Speaker 1: when Craig gave me the opportunity to do some stand
- 2:38Speaker 1: up shows with him. I was originally going to write
- 2:41Speaker 1: stories like I wanted to be either a musician or
- 2:44Speaker 1: an author when I was growing up musician part I
- 2:49Speaker 1: get paid to play bass. I guess that makes me
- 2:51Speaker 1: a musician. But that's that's already happened. So I was
- 2:56Speaker 1: going to write a book about growing up in Kentucky,
- 2:58Speaker 1: being able to come up from Lexing, Kentucky to these
- 3:01Speaker 1: worldwide stages. I mean, I'm right next to where Metallica
- 3:04Speaker 1: is playing, and we have toured the world with Metallica,
- 3:07Speaker 1: with Death Punch, all my favorite mens Judas Priests been
- 3:10Speaker 1: out with those guys. So just coming from a small
- 3:13Speaker 1: town in Kentucky, all the stuff that had to happen
- 3:15Speaker 1: to get me to where I'm at to be able
- 3:17Speaker 1: to do all this stuff, and then all the craziness
- 3:19Speaker 1: that's behind the scenes being in a hard rock, heavy
- 3:22Speaker 1: metal band. I was going to tell those stories in
- 3:24Speaker 1: a book, but now I'm just kind of doing it
- 3:26Speaker 1: on stage because I like being able to have that
- 3:28Speaker 1: automatic response. I'm an entertainer, like you know, musician, yeah,
- 3:33Speaker 1: I guess, but entertainer. That's that's where I really thrive.
- 3:38Speaker 2: And you don't have to spell when you're choking about it.
- 3:41Speaker 1: I'm an incredible speller, even growing up in Kentucky. Yeah,
- 3:46Speaker 1: number forty eighth in the United States out of fifty
- 3:49Speaker 1: at education, and I somehow was in the advanced classes.
- 3:52Speaker 1: Granted it was the advanced classes in Kentucky, but it was.
- 3:56Speaker 3: Yeah, Craig does all these voices for all these TV
- 4:01Speaker 3: comedy shows, Like I know, like when I'm in trouble
- 4:04Speaker 3: for my parents, they called me by my full name,
- 4:06Speaker 3: but just say you mess up.
- 4:07Speaker 2: On stage. What voice does he use to chastise you?
- 4:10Speaker 1: He knows better, he knows better. We'll just leave it
- 4:15Speaker 1: at that. Yeah, like I said, I just look like
- 4:17Speaker 1: a nice guy fig was doing there. I don't need
- 4:22Speaker 1: a baseball bat. I got two shins, two shins, fifteen
- 4:27Speaker 1: years of more Thai zip It Craig.
- 4:29Speaker 2: Yeah, well you were not argument.
- 4:31Speaker 1: Actually no, he's kind of he's kind of like my
- 4:33Speaker 1: comedy manager because he's been doing it forever. So he
- 4:35Speaker 1: books these shows, he's great at promoting, does all the radio,
- 4:40Speaker 1: the TV, and then I take care of like the
- 4:41Speaker 1: heavy metal side of publications and whatnot and spreading the
- 4:44Speaker 1: word over here. So it's been a really cool, uh
- 4:46Speaker 1: team effort with the beard O and Weirdo podcast that
- 4:48Speaker 1: we're doing too. It highlights like the friendship that him
- 4:51Speaker 1: and I have because every musician wants to be a comedian,
- 4:55Speaker 1: every comedian wants to be exactly a musician. So it's, uh,
- 4:59Speaker 1: it's it's been fun sharing his life, sharing my life,
- 5:03Speaker 1: because every time we would get together, we would just
- 5:05Speaker 1: tell stories for you know, the two hours or whatever
- 5:08Speaker 1: we were hanging out, and at one point, I'm like,
- 5:09Speaker 1: why don't we like film these because it's so entertaining,
- 5:14Speaker 1: but just to talk between us and as the things
- 5:16Speaker 1: have progressed, like when we first started the podcast, both
- 5:20Speaker 1: of us had a girlfriend. Neither one of us had
- 5:23Speaker 1: a girlfriends Now, yeah, my girlfriend broke up with me.
- 5:26Speaker 1: His girlfriend broke up with him. Then he realized he
- 5:30Speaker 1: actually broke up with his girlfriend without knowing that it
- 5:32Speaker 1: was him that broke up with her. That's a long story.
- 5:34Speaker 1: It's in the episodes, you can check that out. And
- 5:36Speaker 1: it's just been a lot of fun. And then we
- 5:38Speaker 1: do a lot of self help talk, a lot of
- 5:40Speaker 1: sobriety talk. Both of us are sober as well, so
- 5:44Speaker 1: some of the struggles, some of the obstacles there, we
- 5:46Speaker 1: talk about that stuff. And it's been awesome because it's
- 5:50Speaker 1: a comedy based podcast, but there's also a lot of
- 5:53Speaker 1: elements of real life in there because I know with
- 5:56Speaker 1: five figure Death Punch, we got a lot of dudes
- 5:58Speaker 1: that looked like me, the strong, tough dudes who don't
- 6:02Speaker 1: necessarily want to talk about things. So I like to
- 6:04Speaker 1: be the example of how things work when you're able
- 6:08Speaker 1: to talk about your stuff. So that's kind of been
- 6:10Speaker 1: the impetus behind this whole thing. And we're getting a
- 6:13Speaker 1: lot of feedback. I think eleven million hits on the
- 6:17Speaker 1: social media platforms for the clips that we've got out.
- 6:21Speaker 1: And we've had everybody from Rudy Sarzo to Lizzie Hale
- 6:24Speaker 1: to Carry King from Slayer like Carry King is a
- 6:28Speaker 1: big surily guy like me and yeah, and to be
- 6:31Speaker 1: able to have like just a friendly conversation, it's we
- 6:35Speaker 1: give a platform for some of those that might not
- 6:40Speaker 1: might not enjoy doing a lot of press. I guess,
- 6:42Speaker 1: I don't know. I can't speak for Carrie, but might
- 6:44Speaker 1: not enjoy doing a lot of press. But it's just
- 6:45Speaker 1: a fun conversation over a table like this filmed in
- 6:48Speaker 1: Las Vegas, and things have been going good with Beard
- 6:51Speaker 1: and Widow. You can get that everywhere Apple, Spotify, YouTube,
- 6:54Speaker 1: all that stuff.
- 6:55Speaker 2: On thether subject, Like you say, you started off like
- 6:57Speaker 2: this just having a chat with you might yeah, and
- 6:59Speaker 2: then but did the dynamics change it all when you
- 7:01Speaker 2: were doing it in front of people for other people.
- 7:04Speaker 1: I'll tell you how the dynamic changed. Now. Craig will
- 7:08Speaker 1: come to me with a story and be like, ah,
- 7:10Speaker 1: should I save this for the podcast? So yeah, So
- 7:13Speaker 1: some of the stories instead of sharing it right here
- 7:15Speaker 1: are now saved for the podcast because he likes to
- 7:17Speaker 1: get my reaction. Yeah, like I said, I look like
- 7:20Speaker 1: a nice guy, but I get pissed real quick. So
- 7:22Speaker 1: we even have a segment called Chris is Pissed, which yeah,
- 7:25Speaker 1: it's yeah. Actually, Andy James from five Death Punch, our guitarist,
- 7:30Speaker 1: I told him I sang out what I wanted for him.
- 7:33Speaker 1: He recorded that I went over to this house put
- 7:35Speaker 1: the vocals over it. So the intro music four beard
- 7:38Speaker 1: on weardough and the intro music for the Chriss piss segment.
- 7:42Speaker 1: Andy James, you haves a little fine thing the Death
- 7:44Speaker 1: Punch tie in there too, So thank you Andy. Andy,
- 7:46Speaker 1: I would say the checks in the mail that is
- 7:48Speaker 1: not welcome to the band.
- 7:52Speaker 2: How are your fun austraying crabs made like our sense
- 7:54Speaker 2: of humor is vastly different to that in the States,
- 7:57Speaker 2: Like are they relating?
- 7:59Speaker 1: Geez for sure? Because like I said, doing this stuff,
- 8:03Speaker 1: I know that five Finger Death Punch has such a
- 8:06Speaker 1: big following, such a big draw. I'm basically telling stories
- 8:11Speaker 1: about being on the road. So people who are coming
- 8:14Speaker 1: out no Five Finger Death Punch know me want to
- 8:17Speaker 1: hear stories about that. So I'm not like you're traditional
- 8:20Speaker 1: you know, punchline. I'm sorry, set up punchline. Guys. See
- 8:23Speaker 1: I can't even get that right. Shows why I play bass. Yeah,
- 8:28Speaker 1: but yeah, so it's that's been translating really well because
- 8:32Speaker 1: they know me from following me on Instagram, they know
- 8:35Speaker 1: the band, and you know, just telling these stories in person.
- 8:40Speaker 1: It's so fun because going to these shows to see
- 8:43Speaker 1: me doing stand up comedy, it is the closest you're
- 8:46Speaker 1: getting to me. Ever, because death punch complaining is huge places,
- 8:50Speaker 1: there's very little chance of you actually meeting me unless
- 8:53Speaker 1: you get one of like the meet and repackages, you know.
- 8:55Speaker 1: But I think it's twenty five bucks to come see
- 8:57Speaker 1: the show tomorrow and we will say hi to every
- 9:00Speaker 1: single person after the show. So not only do you
- 9:03Speaker 1: get the stand up comedy show, you get to hang
- 9:05Speaker 1: out and chat with your boy here, mister Chris Kle Yeah,
- 9:09Speaker 1: comedian that day.
- 9:10Speaker 2: Yeah, I wanted a bit of role reversal here with
- 9:12Speaker 2: our playes on. But like you'll tell.
- 9:15Speaker 1: Me, that's different here in Australia.
- 9:19Speaker 2: But like you're telling stories about your make and far
- 9:21Speaker 2: think of death. Fine, just say the roles were reversed
- 9:23Speaker 2: and one of them was telling the story about you.
- 9:25Speaker 2: What do you reckon? They'd say, Oh, man, what's the
- 9:30Speaker 2: funny story that they tell us that you probably.
- 9:31Speaker 1: Wouldn't they would tell you about. So we'll talking Andy
- 9:39Speaker 1: and Charlie very like they're new in the band. Then
- 9:43Speaker 1: you got me Ivan and Zultan. We've been in the
- 9:46Speaker 1: band for a little bit. Those two kind of started
- 9:48Speaker 1: off the band, and then I joined, and now Charlie
- 9:51Speaker 1: and Andy are in the band. So Charlie is a
- 9:54Speaker 1: very like incredible drummer, doesn't necessarily stand out in a crowd.
- 10:00Speaker 1: I definitely stand out in a crowd. So they would
- 10:03Speaker 1: tell you about the time that they went to this
- 10:06Speaker 1: amusement park in Hershey, Pennsylvania, came back in the afternoon.
- 10:10Speaker 1: I'd just done pressed. I was coming off the bus
- 10:13Speaker 1: and they was like yeah. I was like, Hey, where'd
- 10:14Speaker 1: you guys go. It's like, oh, we've been over at
- 10:16Speaker 1: the amusement park. You're gonna go. And this amusement park
- 10:19Speaker 1: was right next to where we were playing. So the
- 10:22Speaker 1: stage is here, the amusement park is here, tone the
- 10:24Speaker 1: Death Punch fans over there. They asked me, Hey, we
- 10:28Speaker 1: just got back from the amusement park. Are you going
- 10:30Speaker 1: over there? No, I'm not going over there. I love
- 10:35Speaker 1: hanging out and meeting people, but I am very full frontal.
- 10:39Speaker 1: I would not have been able to ride any of
- 10:41Speaker 1: their rides. I would have been kissing hands and shaking
- 10:44Speaker 1: babies all day long. Yeah. So, yeah, that's that's what
- 10:47Speaker 1: they would say. And I remember one time Zultan actually
- 10:52Speaker 1: said he told the tour manager he's like, I believe
- 10:55Speaker 1: Chris kle was a good acquisition. He makes the rest
- 10:58Speaker 1: of us looked not so much like dicks. So I'm
- 11:01Speaker 1: like the public relations guy. I've always been mister mister friendly.
- 11:06Speaker 1: I like to use the word charming, very charming, very approachable,
- 11:11Speaker 1: and am very aware. I am the best to be.
- 11:15Speaker 1: There's nobody better at being humbled than me. I am
- 11:18Speaker 1: the king of humility. Look around, nobody's doing humility like me.
- 11:22Speaker 1: I am the most humble person in the world. Nah,
- 11:27Speaker 1: I'm confident. I wouldn't say I wouldn't say cocky, but
- 11:29Speaker 1: confident for sure. There's a fine line between cocky and arrogant.
- 11:33Speaker 1: Like I said, say confidence and ego. Ego has to
- 11:37Speaker 1: take away from people confidence. That's just like I know.
- 11:40Speaker 1: I'm good at what I do. I know I'm friendly
- 11:42Speaker 1: and whatnot, and I am definitely very much a guy
- 11:46Speaker 1: who rising tide lifts all ships kind of guys. So yeah,
- 11:49Speaker 1: I love. If I'm doing good, I want those around
- 11:52Speaker 1: me to do good as well. So nothing wrong with that, brother, No,
- 11:55Speaker 1: I don't need to take away from other people.
- 11:57Speaker 2: Now. What there is something wrong with it is you
- 11:59Speaker 2: might we spit?
- 12:00Speaker 1: Where do we start?
- 12:01Speaker 2: You made me spit my cocoa pops all over my bedroom.
- 12:03Speaker 1: Just wanted what happened?
- 12:04Speaker 2: You made me spit my cocoa pops all over my
- 12:06Speaker 2: bedroom because I was reading Facebook and there was a
- 12:08Speaker 2: little ad came up from you about your show in
- 12:10Speaker 2: Brisbane and you had three letters in there that made
- 12:14Speaker 2: me spin my cocoa pops at DCP. Yes, now I'm
- 12:17Speaker 2: gonna let you explain that.
- 12:19Speaker 1: That's right. We're coming to Brisbane. Two comics to DCP
- 12:24Speaker 1: the shit out of Brisbane. That's double comic penetration. Two
- 12:29Speaker 1: comics penetrating the vibe here in Brisbane doing some comedy
- 12:32Speaker 1: for you. Yeah, so I knew dirty people like this dude,
- 12:35Speaker 1: he would know what I was talking about.
- 12:37Speaker 2: I had to look it up.
- 12:39Speaker 1: My children indeed the TikTok crowd.
- 12:42Speaker 2: Knows now, but what do I really want to know
- 12:44Speaker 2: with that? And I've already had this mental picture. You're
- 12:47Speaker 2: gonna be getting anyone up from the crowd just to
- 12:50Speaker 2: show them what DVP is.
- 12:52Speaker 1: I don't want my D to get anywhere near his
- 12:54Speaker 1: d So no, no, we will be penetrating the building
- 12:57Speaker 1: at the same time, but that will be the only
- 13:00Speaker 1: orifice is that front door walking through at the same time. Yeah. Now,
- 13:03Speaker 1: we actually we had a fan up on stage at
- 13:06Speaker 1: the podcast recording that we did in Melbourne. We recorded
- 13:10Speaker 1: a live studio audience of the Beard on Wido podcast
- 13:14Speaker 1: in Melbourne, and the night before when I was at Metallica,
- 13:18Speaker 1: I met this young lady bumped into her an accident
- 13:20Speaker 1: and I was like, oh, hey, I'm sorry. I'm sorry.
- 13:22Speaker 1: It was in the snake pit so it was packed
- 13:23Speaker 1: bumped into her and I was like, oh, I'm sorry.
- 13:25Speaker 1: She turned around, She's like, wait do you This is
- 13:30Speaker 1: funny because she didn't ask me, are you Chris Kle
- 13:32Speaker 1: From Five Feet Death Points, she goes, wait do you knit?
- 13:36Speaker 1: From the Jacqueline Hyde video. When I'm in the babysit, Yeah,
- 13:39Speaker 1: I go yeah, that's me. And she immediately started crying,
- 13:42Speaker 1: Oh my god, my god. I was like, oh, calm down.
- 13:45Speaker 1: I'm trying to be as incognito as I can be
- 13:47Speaker 1: right here in front of the stage so I can
- 13:48Speaker 1: see Withsalika in the middle with everybody. She was bald,
- 13:53Speaker 1: you're done, and she had lyrics from death Punts Jacqueline
- 13:56Speaker 1: Hide tattooed on her side. Yeah, she showed me that.
- 13:59Speaker 1: Craig said that she was like starting to do this.
- 14:01Speaker 2: He's like, oh, yeah, here, we got it.
- 14:02Speaker 1: Now we got a rush show man. Just positively affecting lives. Man,
- 14:07Speaker 1: That's what I do. So I invited her to the
- 14:11Speaker 1: comedy show. Her husband, incredible human being, was like, yeah,
- 14:15Speaker 1: you go to the comedy show. I'll watch the kids.
- 14:18Speaker 1: And I asked how old are the kids, because I
- 14:19Speaker 1: knew we had fifteen and up that could go see
- 14:21Speaker 1: the taping of the show. He had a thirteen and
- 14:24Speaker 1: a fifteen year old, and I said, well, let me
- 14:26Speaker 1: check with the comedy club, and they ended up allowing
- 14:29Speaker 1: the thirteen year old to come as well, as long
- 14:31Speaker 1: as he was with his mom the whole time. So
- 14:34Speaker 1: I invited her to the show. The two kids and
- 14:37Speaker 1: the husband. They all came out and we had her
- 14:39Speaker 1: come up on stage and tell her side of running
- 14:42Speaker 1: into me at the Metalican. She now, she didn't show
- 14:47Speaker 1: it up. No, No, that's a probably. Ye. She was
- 14:50Speaker 1: a married woman. So you know, I'm very respectful as well,
- 14:53Speaker 1: humble and respectful.
- 14:55Speaker 2: What's to Troy effected, It's going to be one more.
- 14:58Speaker 1: Funny as fuck do that and you can find that
- 15:02Speaker 1: out tomorrow. That the comedy club. That's right, good Chat
- 15:06Speaker 1: comedy club right here in Brisbane, seven o'clock, eight thirty
- 15:09Speaker 1: Dopple penetration. Yeah, yep, indeed I have. I have been
- 15:15Speaker 1: building up a lot of testageuone, building up a lot
- 15:17Speaker 1: of energy. And my god, is everybody pretty out here
- 15:21Speaker 1: in Australia. The majority of them I went down too.
- 15:25Speaker 2: Wanted to say yes to me.
- 15:26Speaker 1: Yeah, the majority of my I mean, what was the
- 15:28Speaker 1: name of the place I went to? A beer place
- 15:30Speaker 1: last night? That's not damn felons with the felons last night.
- 15:37Speaker 1: Oh my god, I'm glad that I can't allow distractions
- 15:40Speaker 1: in my life right now because there were so many distractions.
- 15:43Speaker 1: I don't even like blonde girls, and my god, Craig
- 15:49Speaker 1: says Craig says that whenever I'm talking about a new
- 15:52Speaker 1: girl that I'm dating, he already knows the color of
- 15:54Speaker 1: that crayon. I have a type. I have a type. Yeah,
- 15:57Speaker 1: and blonde is not it usually, But god, you're willing
- 16:01Speaker 1: to make exceptions. No, it's as an as a recovering addict.
- 16:05Speaker 1: I haven't had drug alcohol in UH in just over
- 16:08Speaker 1: four years now, and UH celebrated that back a couple
- 16:11Speaker 1: of months ago. But man, I do still love the ladies.
- 16:15Speaker 1: So the addict in me is fending ladies, fiending. I'm trying.
- 16:21Speaker 1: I'm trying to do the right thing. I'm staying focused.
- 16:25Speaker 1: I mean, when I'm this built up, some songs are coming.
- 16:28Speaker 1: I'm not coming. The songs are definitely coming.
- 16:31Speaker 2: I'm gonna get that mental picture out of my head
- 16:33Speaker 2: right now. I'm either too tiny different base might.
- 16:37Speaker 1: But now let's talk about these girls again.
- 16:38Speaker 2: Okay, let's go back to one.
- 16:41Speaker 1: Gosh, probably my ex wife. Actually that's been I want
- 16:46Speaker 1: to say, we've been divorced for eight years.
- 16:48Speaker 2: Congratulations.
- 16:50Speaker 1: Yeah, both of them calls equal amount of problems. Yeah,
- 16:55Speaker 1: I've got next and just as expensive too, I promise you,
- 16:59Speaker 1: like it's stay together. Kids, go to school, stay together,
- 17:05Speaker 1: and if you're Asian, please come to the show. Please
- 17:07Speaker 1: come to the show, because that's what I'm looking for.
- 17:10Speaker 2: And nah, No, I liked a long I always used
- 17:14Speaker 2: to think it was like just the long, dark hair
- 17:16Speaker 2: that I liked until I dated like three Asian girls
- 17:18Speaker 2: in a row and my friends like.
- 17:19Speaker 1: Dude, you got an Asian thing.
- 17:21Speaker 2: Okay, yeah, I guess that's interest.
- 17:22Speaker 1: I guess I do.
- 17:23Speaker 2: You're in the wrong country for that.
- 17:26Speaker 1: I must have radar. Much like when I was back
- 17:30Speaker 1: in the day when I would party, I could walk
- 17:32Speaker 1: into a room and see exactly who I needed to
- 17:34Speaker 1: talk to continue that party. I see that other stuff
- 17:39Speaker 1: out here. Yeah, I'm very driven, very focused, very motivated,
- 17:43Speaker 1: but at this time, no distractions, fully focused on comedy,
- 17:46Speaker 1: fully focused on heavy metal.
- 17:49Speaker 2: But Diane on the inside, But you performed on sites
- 17:56Speaker 2: to ship lights of people, mostly with five finger back
- 17:58Speaker 2: a comedy. But what do you get.
- 18:01Speaker 1: Out of do you guys know that dig? Do you
- 18:02Speaker 1: guys hear that dig? Right there? It was like that.
- 18:08Speaker 2: But what sort of different things can you get out of?
- 18:10Speaker 2: Biketh Like you in front of crabs by the times,
- 18:12Speaker 2: But you have to get some different animals.
- 18:15Speaker 1: The big difference is when I am on stage with
- 18:18Speaker 1: five figure Death Punch, I got four of my best
- 18:21Speaker 1: friends up there with me that I can lean on.
- 18:23Speaker 1: So if I'm having a bad day, those four dudes,
- 18:26Speaker 1: if I need carried, they can carry me. I can
- 18:28Speaker 1: carry those guys that they're having an off day. When
- 18:31Speaker 1: it's comedy, it's just me on stage, and I love
- 18:37Speaker 1: putting myself into uncomfortable situations and figuring out a way
- 18:41Speaker 1: to find comfort in those things and overcome those obstacles.
- 18:45Speaker 1: So Death Plunch it's like the back of my hand,
- 18:48Speaker 1: reading the back of my hand. Comedy, it's definitely in
- 18:51Speaker 1: the front of the hand. It smacks me in the
- 18:52Speaker 1: face every single time. I am nervous every time I
- 18:54Speaker 1: get up there, and I am never nervous about nothing.
- 18:57Speaker 1: But yeah, I got They asked, you know, do you
- 19:00Speaker 1: get nervous before you go on stage with five figure
- 19:02Speaker 1: Death Punch. No, that's more of like an anxious like
- 19:05Speaker 1: I'm excited to go comedy. There's definitely like that anxious
- 19:10Speaker 1: let's go that kind of thing. But there's still a
- 19:11Speaker 1: bit of like, ooh, this is on me.
- 19:13Speaker 2: What if that like me?
- 19:16Speaker 1: Impossible? They might not like my jokes, so they'll like me.
- 19:22Speaker 1: I do tend to go uh, I like pushing buttons.
- 19:24Speaker 1: So there's there's a couple of things on stage that
- 19:27Speaker 1: there will be no cameras in the crowd, that's for sure. Yeah,
- 19:30Speaker 1: I wouldn't take pictures after if I catch your recording.
- 19:33Speaker 1: Much like Craig Shen's The Chins, Baby, that's a call
- 19:39Speaker 1: back learning the business.
- 19:40Speaker 2: I suddenly feel violated.
- 19:43Speaker 1: My hands have been up here the whole time, right there,
- 19:46Speaker 1: right there.
- 19:47Speaker 2: Yeah, So anyway, figure that's punch for it now. Then
- 19:52Speaker 2: might like you just released based off the volume two
- 19:55Speaker 2: couple of weeks you got how's for a sponge spin
- 19:57Speaker 2: to byth albums?
- 19:58Speaker 1: Dude, it's been incredible. We did a song with Baby
- 20:01Speaker 1: Medal on this thing and it went to number one
- 20:05Speaker 1: in Japan, gone gold already, Zoltan and I Even't just
- 20:09Speaker 1: went to La to present that gold plaque to the
- 20:11Speaker 1: girls from Baby Medal, and yeah, just incredible reactions. I
- 20:16Speaker 1: am hoping that, uh, it's been a long time since
- 20:18Speaker 1: we've been over this way, and I'm hoping that with
- 20:20Speaker 1: success of that record, it gets us into Japan, gets
- 20:24Speaker 1: us back over to Australia, New Zealand. I really want
- 20:27Speaker 1: to get back. It's been a long time since we've
- 20:28Speaker 1: been back here and chomping at the bit. Yeah yeah,
- 20:32Speaker 1: but again I'll play bass. I'll probably find out that
- 20:35Speaker 1: we are playing over here the same way you do
- 20:37Speaker 1: once those days are released online in a heavy Bag. Yes,
- 20:40Speaker 1: in heavy Mag. I will go to Heavy Bag, just
- 20:43Speaker 1: like are there yet? Yeah? Must like being back in
- 20:46Speaker 1: the car when you're a little kid, Dad, are we
- 20:48Speaker 1: the area? I go to heavy Mag wondering if we're
- 20:51Speaker 1: back in Australia by then, what do you go see?
- 20:55Speaker 1: Charming people?
- 21:00Speaker 2: One the reasons why you did the albums, and I
- 21:01Speaker 2: don't want to focus on the negative button, so let's
- 21:03Speaker 2: go on the positive that it's twentieth or very three
- 21:05Speaker 2: foot qua beat a dead punch. Now, you could have
- 21:07Speaker 2: easily just plighted those songs and put them out there
- 21:10Speaker 2: and people would have loved it. But you chries to
- 21:12Speaker 2: re record them. Oh yeah as well, Like that's a
- 21:14Speaker 2: lot of extra Why why do that when you could
- 21:17Speaker 2: have got to why you were doing it the other way?
- 21:19Speaker 1: Well? The extra work was when they say when you
- 21:23Speaker 1: do what you love, it's not work at all. And
- 21:26Speaker 1: it was a nice chance to get back with you know,
- 21:28Speaker 1: all the new tools that are available and recording. You know,
- 21:32Speaker 1: I think it was Exodus Forever Ago re recorded a
- 21:35Speaker 1: bunch of their older stuff and just the guitar tones
- 21:38Speaker 1: on that thing, it's like, my God made it sound incredible.
- 21:42Speaker 1: So to be able to go back and revisit these
- 21:44Speaker 1: with the new technologies, and it's not like we're writing
- 21:47Speaker 1: the songs. The song's already done, so you just go
- 21:49Speaker 1: in and perform. So to be able to go in
- 21:51Speaker 1: and play those songs and get the whole band back
- 21:53Speaker 1: together and hanging out and really much like for the
- 21:57Speaker 1: fan when they're listening to these songs, just taking them
- 21:59Speaker 1: back in life, like, oh, I remember where I was
- 22:01Speaker 1: when I heard that song. This is going on? This
- 22:03Speaker 1: kind of gave us a chance to reflect as the
- 22:05Speaker 1: very first record was recorded in Zoltan's apartment in Los Angeles,
- 22:09Speaker 1: in his living room. The new record that we're working on,
- 22:13Speaker 1: we're going back to those roots, recording in Zultan's living room.
- 22:17Speaker 1: It's a lot bigger, a lot bigger than what it was,
- 22:23Speaker 1: but the vibe is still the same. You know, five
- 22:26Speaker 1: friends in one room writing, putting things together and going
- 22:31Speaker 1: back and doing those old songs. It gave us a
- 22:33Speaker 1: chance to reflect where it came from and then all
- 22:37Speaker 1: those little steps in between. So it was a retrospective
- 22:40Speaker 1: for us. And man, just incredibly grateful that we have
- 22:45Speaker 1: such support that so many people love Death Punch, go
- 22:49Speaker 1: to the shows, buy the records, allow us to do
- 22:54Speaker 1: all the things that we do. If it were if
- 22:55Speaker 1: it wasn't for five figure Death Punch, I would not
- 22:57Speaker 1: be over here doing stand up comedy. So all of
- 23:00Speaker 1: that stuff goes through all of our lives and allows
- 23:03Speaker 1: us to do all the wonderful things that we love
- 23:05Speaker 1: to do. And it's all because of you guys connecting
- 23:08Speaker 1: to the stuff that we do. And man, it's it's
- 23:11Speaker 1: a it's a knucklehead army out there. And man, just
- 23:15Speaker 1: very very fortunate and just want to think each and
- 23:17Speaker 1: every single one of you, because yeah, this life would
- 23:19Speaker 1: not be the life that it is without each and
- 23:21Speaker 1: every one of you.
- 23:22Speaker 2: So twenty twenty eight, twenty years, that's crazy, somebody, it's crazy.
- 23:27Speaker 1: I would say it's more than half my life.
- 23:28Speaker 2: But yeah, yeah, die twenty eight.
- 23:30Speaker 1: Yeah, if I'm not a day over twenty eight. There's
- 23:34Speaker 1: been some rough rough years.
- 23:36Speaker 2: But you can find out all about that at the
- 23:38Speaker 2: sight or not.
- 23:38Speaker 1: Indeed, indeed, I do reveal my age on stage. You see,
- 23:44Speaker 1: I didn't write that down. That's when a long somewhere
- 23:47Speaker 1: I just can't help but be creatives.
- 23:49Speaker 2: You know, now, I spite this all chain about this
- 23:53Speaker 2: not long ago. It's you better tell me the truth
- 23:55Speaker 2: because if the answer is conflicting on it another, why
- 23:58Speaker 2: don't use this full of shit?
- 24:00Speaker 1: A couple of the songs were completely uninformed.
- 24:03Speaker 2: You didn't get that.
- 24:05Speaker 1: Yeah, the last time that we did an interview the
- 24:10Speaker 1: email whoever wrote this too said sorry, it's Chris because
- 24:14Speaker 1: somebody else had to cancel. So whoever wrote that email,
- 24:17Speaker 1: We're having a chat when I get back. I'm going
- 24:19Speaker 1: to I'm going a good chat tomorrow. I'm having a
- 24:23Speaker 1: not very good chat with you, whoever wrote that email
- 24:26Speaker 1: when I get back to Vegas. Sins the chins, Baby,
- 24:28Speaker 1: they're just threatening label. I think I'm.
- 24:33Speaker 2: La.
- 24:33Speaker 1: I don't know, I don't know who, I don't know
- 24:35Speaker 1: who wrote the things. I'm not threatening anybody. I'm threatening everybody.
- 24:39Speaker 2: You get the right way.
- 24:40Speaker 1: Hey, I'm a comedian, guys, these are jokes. These are jokes. Allegedly,
- 24:43Speaker 1: I'm threatening.
- 24:44Speaker 2: Everybody allegedly makes a big difference when you re recorded
- 24:50Speaker 2: the album. There's a few songs from there that are
- 24:52Speaker 2: slightly different to the originals, and they're all they're all
- 24:55Speaker 2: improvements as far as I'm just saying. But when you
- 24:57Speaker 2: went into it, did you did you plan out what
- 24:59Speaker 2: you're going to do? You different like, did you've written
- 25:01Speaker 2: that or did it come into the studio and you
- 25:02Speaker 2: made those changes.
- 25:04Speaker 1: I wasn't really part of that part of the thing
- 25:06Speaker 1: once once those decisions had been made. I was part
- 25:09Speaker 1: after that. But those those decision makings, that's that's out
- 25:12Speaker 1: of my pay grade.
- 25:13Speaker 2: That's not what said. You said every funk up was
- 25:17Speaker 2: down to you and you're not gonna argue with him.
- 25:20Speaker 2: That's why.
- 25:21Speaker 1: That's why I do stand up common.
- 25:23Speaker 2: And that's why I'm sitting down. If you mentioned new
- 25:29Speaker 2: new music from fucking Death fun, I'm sorry. What can
- 25:32Speaker 2: you tell us about the next album?
- 25:34Speaker 1: Working on it right now? Luckily I have all the
- 25:38Speaker 1: time in the world to be able to put this
- 25:40Speaker 1: thing together. Got some stuff coming up next year, big
- 25:43Speaker 1: window in between, and really just I mean, like with
- 25:46Speaker 1: Andy and the band, Charlie and the band, New Dynamics
- 25:50Speaker 1: and whatnot in there. So yeah, it's a it's it's
- 25:52Speaker 1: been awesome, like the technical prowess between those two my god.
- 25:57Speaker 2: Yeah, and it's gonna be what made me.
- 25:58Speaker 1: Expect, makes me realize I got practice, Carl Camton, and
- 26:03Speaker 1: I'm wasting and doing comedy. Yeah, you see where my
- 26:06Speaker 1: priorities are. Yeah, no, but yeah, it's everything's firing on
- 26:10Speaker 1: all cylinders. With us only having done like six shows
- 26:13Speaker 1: this year, maybe I think it was it really gave
- 26:15Speaker 1: each of us uh some time to do our own things.
- 26:18Speaker 1: And yeah, we are all chomping at the bit ready
- 26:21Speaker 1: to get back out there. And uh, I know, Parkway
- 26:25Speaker 1: Drive big big here in uh in Australia and around
- 26:29Speaker 1: the world really, but they bring a lot of fire
- 26:32Speaker 1: and we got a lot of fire burning inside. See
- 26:34Speaker 1: that's my connection with Australia right there. They're pyro with
- 26:37Speaker 1: our pyro inside. But yeah, we got a lot of
- 26:39Speaker 1: stuff coming and super excited to get back out there
- 26:42Speaker 1: and blow the world up.
- 26:44Speaker 2: Very This is more of a personal question for me,
- 26:46Speaker 2: but you guys have done quite a few competes. Maybe
- 26:49Speaker 2: the album you do a different sort of cover on
- 26:51Speaker 2: the band. What's your favorite one to download personally, I
- 26:54Speaker 2: love the Bad Company cover you've done.
- 26:55Speaker 1: Yeah, that one was huge because that one opened up
- 26:57Speaker 1: a lot of doors four five figure death points. So
- 26:59Speaker 1: that's probably been the most influential on our career. Was
- 27:03Speaker 1: that one, oh Man favorite one that we've done. I
- 27:06Speaker 1: don't know, there's been there's been a couple. I probably
- 27:12Speaker 1: Mama said knock you out. Yeah, yeah, because we have
- 27:16Speaker 1: Tech nine on that one as well. Yeah, so uh yeah,
- 27:19Speaker 1: and they played that one at our GM a lot,
- 27:22Speaker 1: So that's that's the one that's most in my head. Yeah,
- 27:24Speaker 1: that was fun And we got to do that song
- 27:25Speaker 1: live with Tech nine in Los Angeles years ago. You
- 27:29Speaker 1: know that was fun.
- 27:30Speaker 2: Did you just going into the album, like, do you
- 27:32Speaker 2: just have a meeting and decide this is a couple
- 27:33Speaker 2: we're gonna do this album or does it just come
- 27:36Speaker 2: when you're there and someone Guy's.
- 27:37Speaker 1: Should be cool? Yeah. Genuinely speaking, you'll have like a
- 27:39Speaker 1: few songs that you kind of want to work on
- 27:41Speaker 1: and we all kind of like think about it. But
- 27:44Speaker 1: genuinely speaking, it's like it's what can we what cover
- 27:48Speaker 1: song can we add death punch elements to? We don't
- 27:51Speaker 1: want to get in there and just do exactly the
- 27:53Speaker 1: same way that the original was. We want to add
- 27:55Speaker 1: death Punch kind of flare onto it. And also, it's
- 27:57Speaker 1: got to be something that I haven't connected with as well,
- 28:00Speaker 1: because you're gonna hear that in his vocals. You would
- 28:02Speaker 1: really want to hear him feel the song that we're doing.
- 28:04Speaker 1: So a combination of those two things, what I have
- 28:06Speaker 1: been feeling and what can death Punch add to it
- 28:10Speaker 1: to make its death Punch.
- 28:11Speaker 2: Ask you've got any idea at all, what's gonna be
- 28:14Speaker 2: on the next one, I couldn't tell you.
- 28:15Speaker 1: Now. We're focused on the We're focused on the original
- 28:18Speaker 1: stuff right now. So yeah, that's the that's that's the priority,
- 28:21Speaker 1: number one, getting those originals. And uh, anytime you get
- 28:25Speaker 1: to do a cover again, talking about retrospectives and whatnot,
- 28:28Speaker 1: it gives us a chance to feel like, you know,
- 28:30Speaker 1: every kid growing up, we learned cover songs when we're
- 28:33Speaker 1: learning music, So it gives us a chance to feel
- 28:36Speaker 1: like those the high school bands that we were in,
- 28:38Speaker 1: you know, just doing covers and whatnot. So that's a
- 28:40Speaker 1: lot of fun. So heah, that's another part of the
- 28:42Speaker 1: process is being back and revisiting songs that we love.
- 28:46Speaker 2: No, I said, well, I'm gonna let you guy, brother,
- 28:48Speaker 2: because oh no, I'm fucking hungry, and I'm sure you
- 28:49Speaker 2: must be too. Yes, but November the eleventh, the gig
- 28:52Speaker 2: is that there's something comedy cubs.
- 28:54Speaker 1: Good chat, good check, comedy clubs us like this. We've
- 28:56Speaker 1: had a good chat.
- 28:57Speaker 2: But it's gonna be better.
- 28:59Speaker 1: Yes, it's gonna be better. Comedy club. All right, brother,
- 29:02Speaker 1: thanks very much for jim appreciation, my friend, Thank you
- 29:04Speaker 1: so much. Thank you. Check out Beardo and Weirdo see
- 29:07Speaker 1: you tomorrow and Brisbane. It's gonna be a good time.
- 29:10Speaker 1: M hm.
