- 0:00Speaker 1: Off the Bench with Jacob Hester and Matt Flynn.
- 0:03Speaker 2: Okay, here we go.
- 0:04Speaker 1: Where the plays get broken down and science gets denied.
- 0:07Speaker 3: Dude, they said I gotta come off the bench.
- 0:09Speaker 1: Hour two of Off the Bench, live from the Raising
- 0:12Speaker 1: Cane Studio.
- 0:46Speaker 3: All right, welcome back in our number two of OTB
- 0:50Speaker 3: here live from the Raising Cane Studio. Of course, our
- 0:55Speaker 3: Wednesday show is brought to you by Poncho, ponchooutdoors.com slash offthebench.com. Dr.
- 1:01Speaker 3: Steven Etheridge in the building with us, as he always is,
- 1:04Speaker 3: every single Wednesday. Doc, how we doing? How we living?
- 1:06Speaker 3: Doing awesome.
- 1:08Speaker 2: Fantastic. You look good, too. Look at these shoes. You
- 1:11Speaker 2: got the purple and golds on. Shiny.
- 1:14Speaker 3: We're getting ready for season. You got to start kind
- 1:16Speaker 3: of getting in game mode. Yeah.
- 1:18Speaker 4: The Jordans like to call those the Kobe's, the Laker colors,
- 1:22Speaker 4: but they're LSU colors.
- 1:23Speaker 3: They are. Yeah, 100%.
- 1:24Speaker 5: Yeah, I always like when there's a player for the
- 1:27Speaker 5: Lakers just because you kind of, you know, they copied
- 1:29Speaker 5: us with the color scheme.
- 1:29Speaker 2: Yeah, for sure.
- 1:30Speaker 3: Take advantage.
- 1:31Speaker 2: Might as well take advantage. I like those, too. They're shiny.
- 1:33Speaker 2: I don't have the shiny ones. I got the others.
- 1:35Speaker 2: I got the high top, just the flat colors. So,
- 1:38Speaker 2: all right. Respect. Mad respect.
- 1:41Speaker 3: He's getting ready for game day.
- 1:43Speaker 2: I know.
- 1:44Speaker 3: Not, you know, not this weekend, but very, very soon.
- 1:47Speaker 3: Got to get in season form. He's got to be ready. Yeah.
- 1:50Speaker 2: Doc, are y'all part of team pictures?
- 1:53Speaker 3: I'm not even sure what that is.
- 1:54Speaker 2: I'm sorry. Like the team pictures. Oh, the team pictures.
- 1:57Speaker 2: I'm sorry.
- 1:58Speaker 3: Yeah, it sounded like you said team pictures. It got
- 2:00Speaker 3: a little weird, and Doc said, what? I think you've
- 2:02Speaker 3: got to.
- 2:02Speaker 2: Probably use half the stadium for all the coaches.
- 2:05Speaker 5: A part of team pictures. I thought that was like
- 2:07Speaker 5: a thing on an app.
- 2:07Speaker 3: Yeah, I didn't know what that was either. It depends
- 2:09Speaker 3: really on the coaching staff. Some of them want us in.
- 2:11Speaker 3: Some of them don't.
- 2:12Speaker 5: I think I've probably been in a handful of them
- 2:14Speaker 5: since I've been there. And then sometimes just not there
- 2:16Speaker 5: the day they take them. And our schedules are real
- 2:20Speaker 5: schedules outside of that, so I have a clinic and things.
- 2:22Speaker 3: So if they take it on a day that we're
- 2:24Speaker 3: not already there.
- 2:24Speaker 5: So if you go back the past 15 years, you'll
- 2:27Speaker 5: find me in a handful of them.
- 2:29Speaker 2: I would like to.
- 2:29Speaker 4: See the coordinator of that picture because there is so
- 2:34Speaker 4: many coaches. You know, because it's usually the team in
- 2:37Speaker 4: the center, the support staff around them, right?
- 2:40Speaker 3: Yeah.
- 2:41Speaker 2: It might be the support staff in the middle now,
- 2:42Speaker 2: the team around them. Yeah.
- 2:44Speaker 3: Well, we did the ones in Houston before the bowl
- 2:48Speaker 3: for this past team.
- 2:48Speaker 6: Yeah.
- 2:49Speaker 5: And it was several different pictures. They did one with
- 2:52Speaker 5: just the team and, like, the core coaches, like the
- 2:54Speaker 5: main coaches, if you will.
- 2:55Speaker 3: Yeah.
- 2:55Speaker 5: And then they brought in, like– Each one. So, like,
- 2:57Speaker 5: we came in, like, in round three. And, I mean,
- 2:59Speaker 5: at that point, it was taking up half the stadium.
- 3:01Speaker 5: It felt like, you know, it was kind of outrageous.
- 3:04Speaker 3: I mean, remember, we talked about this. Well, maybe you
- 3:06Speaker 3: weren't on the show yet when, because Billy Napier, like,
- 3:10Speaker 3: before everybody had all the analysts, like, he would have, like,
- 3:14Speaker 3: he had a position director of game-changing moments was an
- 3:20Speaker 3: actual position on the Florida football staff. There was a
- 3:23Speaker 3: lot of blue polos in that one.
- 3:25Speaker 2: Oh, my God. I don't think it would rival the
- 3:28Speaker 2: amount of purple polos.
- 3:28Speaker 3: I think it was close.
- 3:30Speaker 2: Okay.
- 3:31Speaker 3: Well. We have a big staff. I told you. At
- 3:35Speaker 3: least everybody there was put to work.
- 3:38Speaker 2: Well, I wouldn't think they'd just be sitting around. All
- 3:42Speaker 2: the jobs necessary.
- 3:43Speaker 3: I had a chance to go. I felt necessary yesterday. Necessary?
- 3:47Speaker 3: Is it necessary that I?
- 3:49Speaker 6: Yeah.
- 3:50Speaker 3: So I went to my first practice yesterday and I
- 3:53Speaker 3: was very impressed with the efficiency of practice.
- 3:55Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 3:56Speaker 3: There was no wasted time. There was no wasted anything there.
- 3:59Speaker 3: Every coach was yelling at somebody like in a good way.
- 4:02Speaker 3: It just, it felt completely different than going a year ago.
- 4:06Speaker 3: So I just, my point was that yes, they have
- 4:09Speaker 3: a lot of coaches. I get that. But those coaches,
- 4:12Speaker 3: I'll give them credit. They were coaching somebody. Oh yeah.
- 4:15Speaker 3: The practices are, they're intense.
- 4:17Speaker 5: They, you know, and I think that was something that
- 4:19Speaker 5: immediately probably day one you could see a difference, you know,
- 4:22Speaker 5: the intensity level. And you'd see it some with the
- 4:23Speaker 5: off season stuff, but it's hard to really see how
- 4:24Speaker 5: that's going to transition. But yeah, the day one practices
- 4:28Speaker 5: are really intense. It's funny because it's now something I enjoy,
- 4:31Speaker 5: but the past few years it was something I sort
- 4:33Speaker 5: of clowned and made fun of was, you know, even
- 4:35Speaker 5: like down to the ball guys. And when we played
- 4:36Speaker 5: Ole Miss, their, their guys are running on our sideline.
- 4:39Speaker 5: The guys hand the ball, there's always a guy with
- 4:41Speaker 5: the ball on both sidelines. So on the visitor sideline,
- 4:43Speaker 5: you know, you're always going to have one of the other,
- 4:44Speaker 5: other teams guys. And these guys in between the, Plays
- 4:47Speaker 5: during the game are sprinting up the sideline with the ball,
- 4:49Speaker 5: getting the ball to the ref. Because, again, it's all
- 4:51Speaker 5: part of that hurry-up offense. And you can clearly tell
- 4:53Speaker 5: they practiced that. It wasn't– on the one hand, then
- 4:55Speaker 5: I made fun of it because they were the enemy.
- 4:56Speaker 5: I'm like, look at these– whatever.
- 4:59Speaker 3: And now I'm like, it's awesome. I had to kind
- 5:01Speaker 3: of catch myself there on the radio.
- 5:03Speaker 4: That is one of those little things that you don't
- 5:05Speaker 4: ever think about. You have to train your ball boy
- 5:09Speaker 4: to be in really good shape. He might be on
- 5:11Speaker 4: scholarship right now.
- 5:12Speaker 3: Who knows? I really liked– Last year, watching them, I
- 5:15Speaker 3: appreciated their receiver could have the most badass catch in
- 5:19Speaker 3: the world, and they would quickly get up and start
- 5:22Speaker 3: looking to hand the ball to somebody. And the rules are, like,
- 5:25Speaker 3: for them, I think it was, if you catch it
- 5:28Speaker 3: outside the hash, like, you immediately go put it at
- 5:30Speaker 3: the hash, and, you know, if you catch it in
- 5:32Speaker 3: the middle of the field, like, you find the spot
- 5:33Speaker 3: right in the middle of the field, and you drive.
- 5:34Speaker 3: They had rules to it. And, look, I'm not saying
- 5:37Speaker 3: don't celebrate. Like, I like a good celebration, but it
- 5:39Speaker 3: wasn't all the look at me. It was like, let
- 5:41Speaker 3: me help the team and let me go spot this
- 5:43Speaker 3: ball for the referee.
- 5:44Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 5:44Speaker 5: And that's, again, that's all practice. And it's funny, you know,
- 5:46Speaker 5: to be out there. And like you said, that there's
- 5:48Speaker 5: always a purpose. There's an intensity to it. There's all
- 5:50Speaker 5: those things. And like I said, it's not even just the, the,
- 5:53Speaker 5: the coaches, but it's the players. It's the ball guys.
- 5:55Speaker 5: It's the equipment guys. It's all of everybody's hustling. And
- 5:58Speaker 5: I mean, they're doing it at practice because you got
- 6:00Speaker 5: to be ready for the game, but it's, it's been
- 6:02Speaker 5: interesting to watch.
- 6:04Speaker 2: Doc, did you.
- 6:04Speaker 4: Think that like a couple of months ago, your, uh,
- 6:09Speaker 4: physicals for, uh, new players was done.
- 6:13Speaker 5: Typically yeah yeah it's been interesting yeah it's it's uh
- 6:16Speaker 5: an interesting couple days yeah it's it's it's look we
- 6:19Speaker 5: all know what's going on it's crazy you know uh
- 6:22Speaker 5: everybody has their feelings about it but at the end
- 6:24Speaker 5: of the day yeah we you know look you're bringing
- 6:26Speaker 5: a new guy in he's got to get a physical
- 6:27Speaker 5: so we've gotten a few phone calls and texts over
- 6:29Speaker 5: the past couple weeks uh even when this was first
- 6:32Speaker 5: sort of brewing there were a couple kind of quiet
- 6:34Speaker 5: like hey you know we might have some guys coming
- 6:36Speaker 5: in because you would have to clear them yeah they
- 6:38Speaker 5: have to pass medical clearance and I will say this,
- 6:40Speaker 5: you know, the NFL has a very good system because,
- 6:43Speaker 5: you know, college is so big. It's hard to have
- 6:46Speaker 5: a uniform like medical records and that the guys that
- 6:49Speaker 5: did have something that we immediately had to pack it on.
- 6:52Speaker 5: It's just something which makes it a little easier. I
- 6:55Speaker 5: think college we're trying to get there, but it's just,
- 6:56Speaker 5: you know, we're catching up. Usually it's NFL calling you
- 6:59Speaker 5: for records. Now you're calling the NFL for records.
- 7:03Speaker 3: No, it's kind of kind of backwards. It feels like
- 7:06Speaker 3: nobody wants to share any information in college either.
- 7:08Speaker 5: No, it is so hard. It's so hard to get stuff. And,
- 7:10Speaker 5: and look, it's every, every, every situation is unique. I
- 7:12Speaker 5: won't say that's always the case, but you know, back
- 7:14Speaker 5: in January when we were in the portal, we have
- 7:16Speaker 5: two weeks to see God knows how many people and
- 7:18Speaker 5: you're trying to get that information.
- 7:19Speaker 3: It was really difficult.
- 7:20Speaker 5: And, and cause sometimes, you know, you can't like, you know,
- 7:23Speaker 5: most people don't know their medical background, that wellness, let
- 7:25Speaker 5: alone an 18, 20 year old kid, you know, it's
- 7:27Speaker 5: you ask him what they have.
- 7:28Speaker 3: And I don't think there are most of them are
- 7:29Speaker 3: trying to be deceptive. Some might've been, but yeah.
- 7:31Speaker 5: They don't remember, or they don't know, or they don't
- 7:33Speaker 5: know the terminology or whatever, and they don't know the
- 7:35Speaker 5: severity of things.
- 7:38Speaker 3: All right.
- 7:40Speaker 2: Getting close to kickoff and still thinking about physicals. Fascinating.
- 7:44Speaker 3: It is different. It is different. Real quick, I do
- 7:48Speaker 3: want to go to the NFL world with you because
- 7:51Speaker 3: the New Orleans Saints have had a ton of hamstring injuries.
- 7:57Speaker 3: It's not just Jordan Tyson, which we talked about last week.
- 8:00Speaker 3: I mean, it's been more than one guy. It's been
- 8:03Speaker 3: Oscar Delps dealing with one, Devin Nils dealing with one.
- 8:07Speaker 3: Is that, and I don't want to put words into
- 8:09Speaker 3: your mouth, but is that more a, hey, it's training camp,
- 8:11Speaker 3: we see more hamstring injuries during that time? Is there
- 8:15Speaker 3: an issue with something they're doing? Because it feels like
- 8:17Speaker 3: every time somebody goes down on the injury report for
- 8:19Speaker 3: the Saints, if it's not season ending, it's hamstring. Yeah,
- 8:25Speaker 3: it's hard to say. 100% there's going to be more
- 8:27Speaker 3: of this in camp.
- 8:28Speaker 5: You know, there's nothing that mimics the intensity and speed
- 8:31Speaker 5: of actual football for these football players. And we've learned that,
- 8:34Speaker 5: you know, no matter how well you trained offseason, no
- 8:37Speaker 5: matter how much you did with your OTAs, your offseason workouts,
- 8:40Speaker 5: guys are still going to have injuries in camp, and
- 8:42Speaker 5: especially soft tissue things. And now, if you prepare appropriately,
- 8:46Speaker 5: obviously that's better. If you come in having done those things,
- 8:49Speaker 5: you're less likely. But you're going to have some of them.
- 8:52Speaker 5: Could there be, you know, and look, I'm not saying
- 8:53Speaker 5: the Saints are anything wrong. Love the Saints, love the organization.
- 8:56Speaker 5: But just as a general, if you see a team
- 8:57Speaker 5: that has a bunch of them, yeah, sometimes you either
- 8:59Speaker 5: look towards their training or things like that. Sometimes it's
- 9:02Speaker 5: bad luck. Sometimes it just happens. You know, if I
- 9:05Speaker 5: go back and look at five camps in a row
- 9:07Speaker 5: or however many, even if it was basically the same staff,
- 9:10Speaker 5: you're going to see different levels of injuries. You know,
- 9:13Speaker 5: one year I remember here we had something like 12
- 9:14Speaker 5: concussions just in camp.
- 9:16Speaker 3: Yeah.
- 9:16Speaker 5: And this was like during an era when the previous
- 9:18Speaker 5: camp and the camp after, same coaching staff basically, and
- 9:21Speaker 5: they had like three. So, you know, sometimes weird things happen.
- 9:23Speaker 5: You can't always predict it.
- 9:24Speaker 3: Right. You know, obviously, I'm sure you all have done
- 9:26Speaker 3: the research.
- 9:27Speaker 5: There's no power facilities that opened up near the train
- 9:29Speaker 5: or anything like that.
- 9:31Speaker 3: So, you know, I know we always worry about that.
- 9:33Speaker 3: This would be the team that would do the research.
- 9:36Speaker 3: I can promise you about that.
- 9:37Speaker 5: So I'm assuming that's not the case because I don't
- 9:39Speaker 5: think you would even ask the question otherwise.
- 9:42Speaker 3: Hey, the 49ers went down to practice the Chargers and
- 9:46Speaker 3: they brought that bad juju energy down with them.
- 9:49Speaker 2: Cause it's contagious.
- 9:51Speaker 3: Contagious. It takes a few days to get that off.
- 9:53Speaker 2: Probably. It takes a few days. And if you hit
- 9:55Speaker 2: somebody full contact, it's going to transfer to.
- 9:57Speaker 3: Them. Absolutely. I believe I saw a study on that one.
- 9:59Speaker 2: It's science. He's a doctor. He agreed.
- 10:02Speaker 3: Sign off on it. I heard agree.
- 10:04Speaker 2: NFL, there is.
- 10:08Speaker 2: Things are so much different now.
- 10:11Speaker 4: We talked about this yesterday, how Tom Brady recently said
- 10:13Speaker 4: that he threw a touchdown to Randy Moss in the
- 10:15Speaker 4: third quarter of a preseason game one time. Things are
- 10:18Speaker 4: a lot different now because starters are not playing as much.
- 10:21Speaker 4: I don't know if there's a higher probability for injuries
- 10:25Speaker 4: in the NFL these days or people played through it more.
- 10:27Speaker 4: We just didn't hear about it in the past as
- 10:29Speaker 4: much as we are, but it seems like all over
- 10:31Speaker 4: the NFL, just so many injuries. And that's why people
- 10:34Speaker 4: are just not like, I wouldn't play a starting quarterback
- 10:37Speaker 4: or a receiver or running back in the preseason. But
- 10:40Speaker 4: from a doctor standpoint, like if you were on an
- 10:42Speaker 4: NFL team and the coaches are asking your opinion, like
- 10:46Speaker 4: what would you do for training camp or for preseason games?
- 10:51Speaker 4: And what would your suggestion for these things? Like don't
- 10:53Speaker 4: play the starters do play the starters. Like, do you
- 10:55Speaker 4: need to get calloused in a game like situation? Like
- 10:59Speaker 4: what would be your suggestion?
- 11:00Speaker 5: It's a hard question because yeah, the, the, I will
- 11:03Speaker 5: tell you as medical staff, and I'm sure that anybody
- 11:05Speaker 5: involved with football feels the same way, there is nothing
- 11:08Speaker 5: more disheartening than you lose a guy before the season
- 11:11Speaker 5: even starts.
- 11:12Speaker 3: Whether it's camp, whether it's spring.
- 11:13Speaker 5: Ball, you get a guy that has a major season-ending
- 11:15Speaker 5: injury in a time that on the one hand is meaningless.
- 11:19Speaker 5: It's not a meaningful game. And I say meaningless, some
- 11:22Speaker 5: air quotes, because obviously we all know you've got to
- 11:23Speaker 5: prep and get ready. Because I also feel like if
- 11:25Speaker 5: you look at a lot of teams right now, you
- 11:27Speaker 5: see more injuries during the season. You see teams that
- 11:30Speaker 5: come out, honestly, just not looking quite ready. I feel
- 11:32Speaker 5: like maybe it's just me. Maybe it's an old man curmudgeon.
- 11:35Speaker 5: But I watched the first few weeks, and they just
- 11:37Speaker 5: look sloppy. And that's both college and NFL. I feel
- 11:39Speaker 5: like the past several years, and I feel like maybe
- 11:42Speaker 5: some of that is because we're going too light, too soft.
- 11:44Speaker 3: I think so, too. And I think there's something to it.
- 11:46Speaker 3: I caught up with a bunch of head coaches over
- 11:48Speaker 3: the summer, like some older, like Mike McCarthy. And he's like,
- 11:53Speaker 3: you've got to get forged in the fire during training camp.
- 11:55Speaker 3: And if you don't, then what you're talking about is
- 11:58Speaker 3: going to happen. Andy Reid said the same thing. I
- 12:00Speaker 3: still think that's true 100%.
- 12:02Speaker 5: As a guy that played ball, a guy that loves ball,
- 12:04Speaker 5: been around a long time, I think that is true.
- 12:07Speaker 5: But I also understand if you're the coach and if
- 12:10Speaker 5: I'm talking to you, if you're interviewing me as a
- 12:11Speaker 5: coach for whatever team and you're grilling me because my
- 12:15Speaker 5: starting quarterback got hurt because I left him in the
- 12:17Speaker 5: third quarter of a preseason game, you might not recover
- 12:20Speaker 5: from that as a coach. It might be a season,
- 12:22Speaker 5: a job ending move for you, even though I probably
- 12:25Speaker 5: think it's the right decision from a football standpoint. So
- 12:27Speaker 5: finding that balance, I don't envy the coaches having to
- 12:29Speaker 5: do it. I do think guys got to practice. I
- 12:32Speaker 5: love the intensity. I think practice is the entire thing.
- 12:34Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 12:35Speaker 3: Even in the NFL.
- 12:35Speaker 5: We're talking about the intensity with LSU this year. Our
- 12:38Speaker 5: intensity has been better. And look, we haven't looked great
- 12:41Speaker 5: out of the game. They actually run nine on seven
- 12:43Speaker 5: at practice this year.
- 12:44Speaker 2: Stop it.
- 12:44Speaker 3: Inside runs a thing. Oh, they've done a lot of
- 12:46Speaker 3: focus on that. Yesterday I was like, oh my God.
- 12:49Speaker 5: I'm not saying, but I feel like we weren't ready
- 12:51Speaker 5: the past few seasons. There's a reason why we had
- 12:53Speaker 5: struggled game one.
- 12:54Speaker 2: Yes.
- 12:55Speaker 5: And this is not me throwing stones or maybe it
- 12:56Speaker 5: is whatever. I don't care, but you got to be.
- 12:58Speaker 3: Ready with you. Yeah.
- 12:59Speaker 2: Well, you paid 50 million to get rid of that reason.
- 13:02Speaker 3: Yeah. But I also understand, I do understand that mentality though, too.
- 13:04Speaker 3: I do.
- 13:05Speaker 5: It's a, it's a fine line. It's very easy to
- 13:07Speaker 5: probably fall off on the wrong side of it. Cause
- 13:09Speaker 5: on the other hand, if we're talking about 37 major
- 13:12Speaker 5: injuries at this point, LSU's camp, everybody's like, what are
- 13:14Speaker 5: y'all doing? So, I mean, it, it, you got to
- 13:16Speaker 5: find that line, but yeah, you got to play. I
- 13:18Speaker 5: don't know where that line is.
- 13:19Speaker 3: Football's tough. Football's hard. Football's violent. Like you can't just
- 13:22Speaker 3: go out there and do it. No, you can't. You
- 13:23Speaker 3: can't just expect to flip the switch on in game
- 13:25Speaker 3: number one and be okay. Like you got to be sore.
- 13:28Speaker 3: You got to go through something.
- 13:29Speaker 4: Do you think that it's, I mean, we've talked about this,
- 13:31Speaker 4: how the athlete themselves, the individual is so much bigger, stronger, faster.
- 13:37Speaker 4: Like they do parts of the body, not evolve to
- 13:40Speaker 4: the point to where they can handle that athleticism. And
- 13:43Speaker 4: like there, I think they're, There might be something to that.
- 13:46Speaker 4: We talked about kickers a couple days ago, how it's
- 13:49Speaker 4: commonplace in the NFL to kick 60-yard field goals, right?
- 13:52Speaker 4: It's because you understand the body mechanics and creating levers
- 13:56Speaker 4: and training the body correctly to do something they've never
- 13:59Speaker 4: done before. Well, translate that to a defensive end or
- 14:02Speaker 4: a linebacker or a running back. They are also evolving
- 14:06Speaker 4: to where they're playing with more power, more speed. They're
- 14:10Speaker 4: hitting harder. So I think the proclivity for injury... goes
- 14:14Speaker 4: up because the athlete is stronger and more powerful. You
- 14:18Speaker 4: take what kickers are doing now. Well, the people that
- 14:22Speaker 4: are hitting are also doing the same thing. It's just
- 14:25Speaker 4: in a hitting form. So it's just like, how can
- 14:28Speaker 4: the body stand up?
- 14:29Speaker 5: Well, I think it's too hard to look at any
- 14:30Speaker 5: one thing. It's something I tell my patients in my clinic.
- 14:32Speaker 5: Everybody always wants the why. We want a very simple explanation.
- 14:35Speaker 5: Your knee hurts because you fell down the stairs. Your
- 14:37Speaker 5: whatever happened because of this. But so often, it's not
- 14:40Speaker 5: the case. And I think in football, it's the same.
- 14:41Speaker 3: Is it just.
- 14:43Speaker 5: The way they're practicing, well, no, it's guys are bigger, faster, stronger.
- 14:45Speaker 5: They're training different. They're playing more games. They're practicing longer.
- 14:48Speaker 5: The seasons for almost every sport is changing, even at youth.
- 14:52Speaker 5: Because even if the guys maybe don't play football like
- 14:54Speaker 5: they do in baseball year-round, you have seven-on-seven camps.
- 14:56Speaker 3: You have all these other things. You're adding more. You're
- 14:59Speaker 3: adding more.
- 14:59Speaker 5: That's more reps, more volume, more injuries. So it's going
- 15:03Speaker 5: to happen. But on the other hand, I don't think
- 15:06Speaker 5: it's simple. I don't think everybody wants to know why
- 15:08Speaker 5: are there more of this. I think it's eight variables
- 15:10Speaker 5: that are all contributing.
- 15:12Speaker 3: Doc, you're the man. We appreciate it every single week.
- 15:14Speaker 3: Look forward to it every single week. Thanks for coming in, brother.
- 15:16Speaker 3: Almost game week, baby. Almost there. We are almost there.
- 15:19Speaker 3: All right. When we come back, LSU's announced who's wearing
- 15:23Speaker 3: number 18 next year. Not 15. Nobody cares. We'll break
- 15:27Speaker 3: it down when we come back here on OTB.

- 16:45Speaker 1: Welcome back to Off the Bench. Wednesday's show is brought
- 16:48Speaker 1: to you by Poncho.
- 16:52Speaker 3: These headphones, these big-ass headphones with, like, this song, make
- 16:55Speaker 3: me feel like I'm, like, doing something over here. You
- 16:57Speaker 3: know what I mean?
- 16:58Speaker 2: Like, on the turntable.
- 16:59Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 17:00Speaker 3: Like, just waiting for the drop.
- 17:03Speaker 2: Turned resident Calvin Harris over there.
- 17:06Speaker 3: Somebody. I don't know. Feel important. Yeah, that's me. That's
- 17:11Speaker 3: me doing that.
- 17:12Speaker 2: I feel like DJs are overrated.
- 17:19Speaker 3: Elaborate. Yeah, because we have a loyal DJ that listens
- 17:22Speaker 3: to this show that probably just wrecked his car.
- 17:25Speaker 2: He was like, what? Okay, that was the wrong term
- 17:30Speaker 2: that I used.
- 17:30Speaker 3: Everywhere you go, there's a DJ.
- 17:33Speaker 7: Everywhere you go, there's a DJ.
- 17:34Speaker 2: Having a DJ is incredible.
- 17:36Speaker 3: But sometimes... A great DJ that can feel the vibe
- 17:41Speaker 3: of the room and knows exactly what to do, that's
- 17:44Speaker 3: an elite skill set.
- 17:46Speaker 4: But you watch a DJ, and I see these guys.
- 17:48Speaker 4: There's these guys in Vegas that get paid like a
- 17:50Speaker 4: quarter of a million every time they go and DJ
- 17:52Speaker 4: for two hours. And they sit there, and you watch them. Granted,
- 17:57Speaker 4: the music's great. They feel the vibes. They keep the
- 17:59Speaker 4: juices going. But they're sitting there like this, and they
- 18:02Speaker 4: watch this. They go, they get this finger pointing, going
- 18:04Speaker 4: like that. Then they go like this.
- 18:06Speaker 3: And they push a button.
- 18:08Speaker 7: So you mean more like the Chainsmokers kind of DJs?
- 18:11Speaker 2: And then they go like this. And then they just
- 18:13Speaker 2: push a button.
- 18:14Speaker 3: And that's it.
- 18:15Speaker 4: And the crowd goes wild. They act like they're turning something,
- 18:19Speaker 4: but there's nothing to turn.
- 18:21Speaker 2: And watch this. Watch this finger here. Button push.
- 18:28Speaker 6: Boom. Enter.
- 18:29Speaker 7: I agree with this. I agree with what you're saying.
- 18:31Speaker 3: But can you agree that a good DJ at a party,
- 18:34Speaker 3: a wedding, whatever, can feel the vibe and change the vibe?
- 18:37Speaker 2: I think at a wedding, when we were putting our
- 18:39Speaker 2: wedding together.
- 18:39Speaker 3: You didn't play shout, I promise you that.
- 18:41Speaker 8: When we were putting our wedding together, Victoria's like, all right,
- 18:44Speaker 8: what are you focusing on?
- 18:45Speaker 2: I was like, food, DJ. That's it.
- 18:47Speaker 8: I was like, those are the two things that I
- 18:48Speaker 8: want to be in charge of because I want it
- 18:50Speaker 8: to be good. But to your point, Matt, the DJs
- 18:52Speaker 8: at the raves and stuff, they do all that.
- 18:54Speaker 2: Yeah, I don't get it. Now, okay, so I think
- 18:57Speaker 2: a lot of the plan, how they... I got an email!
- 19:01Speaker 2: That was a DJ email. I'll let you hit that button.
- 19:08Speaker 3: Hey, cut his microphone off.
- 19:09Speaker 2: You know what he's doing?
- 19:11Speaker 3: He's trying to sabotage me announcing that LSU has named
- 19:17Speaker 3: their next number 18.
- 19:18Speaker 2: A little bit louder now.
- 19:20Speaker 6: Woo!
- 19:20Speaker 3: Who is it? It is center Braylon Moore. He is
- 19:25Speaker 3: going to wear 18. Now, you know he can't wear 18, actually,
- 19:29Speaker 3: like on the jersey because, well, he plays center. And
- 19:32Speaker 3: you can't have that on the offensive line. But just
- 19:34Speaker 3: like Lloyd Cushenberry did in 2019, he's going to wear
- 19:37Speaker 3: a number 18 patch on his jersey. That's where I
- 19:41Speaker 3: went yesterday. I wasn't leaving you just to go to practice, Matthew.
- 19:45Speaker 2: Well, you went there for this?
- 19:46Speaker 3: I went there for that.
- 19:48Speaker 2: For a jersey number?
- 19:49Speaker 3: We had a chance. me and Richard Dixon and Benny
- 19:52Speaker 3: Logan and Greg Penn, we got a chance to go
- 19:54Speaker 3: over there, talk to the team a little bit, kept
- 19:57Speaker 3: it short and sweet. They're trying to get ready to practice,
- 19:59Speaker 3: but very appreciative of everyone over at LSU, Coach Kiffin,
- 20:04Speaker 3: for having us over there, letting us talk to the team.
- 20:07Speaker 3: You talk. Yeah, we did.
- 20:08Speaker 2: Did Richard talk? Did they ever dip him? They made
- 20:10Speaker 2: him take it out.
- 20:11Speaker 3: No.
- 20:11Speaker 2: Of course.
- 20:15Speaker 3: He had it. He had it. You know Richard. I mean,
- 20:18Speaker 3: he lives with one. And they're like, hey, maybe we're
- 20:20Speaker 3: not supposed to have tobacco in here. You maybe could
- 20:23Speaker 3: throw that away. He did.
- 20:24Speaker 2: Oh, good for him.
- 20:26Speaker 3: Richard was great. Benny was great.
- 20:27Speaker 2: Greg was great.
- 20:28Speaker 3: It was a lot of fun. Like I said, I mean,
- 20:30Speaker 3: very short and sweet. Here's what it means to us.
- 20:33Speaker 3: Congratulations to whoever's about to get it. And then... jack
- 20:37Speaker 3: marucci announced because jack's such a large huge part of
- 20:41Speaker 3: how number 18 became a thing and so very cool
- 20:43Speaker 3: then we got a chance to watch practice and that's
- 20:45Speaker 3: why we were there for the entire day but braylon
- 20:48Speaker 3: was great very excited like when they announced it you
- 20:51Speaker 3: could tell kind of surprised him a little bit and
- 20:54Speaker 3: all the guys were fired up.
- 20:55Speaker 7: For him he wasn't even like a thought whenever yeah.
- 20:59Speaker 4: Is jack kind of like the the commissioner of 18
- 21:01Speaker 4: i think so yeah Because he's all– so Jack's incredible. Like,
- 21:05Speaker 4: the analytics that he does over there. But he tracks–
- 21:08Speaker 4: he's got these metrics that he tracks for player character.
- 21:11Speaker 3: He does.
- 21:12Speaker 4: And he's been doing it a long time. He's done
- 21:14Speaker 4: it for every LSU team dated back to, like, 2000.
- 21:17Speaker 3: He's got it all the way. Like, the breakdown is
- 21:19Speaker 3: character guys by area code they came from. Yeah.
- 21:21Speaker 4: And then, like, with skill set and rankings and things
- 21:24Speaker 4: like that. And he's got it broken down, like, dated
- 21:28Speaker 4: back to when he got here, like around 2000.
- 21:30Speaker 2: He's got every team– skill level, ranks, like you.
- 21:34Speaker 4: Said, area codes, character, all these different metrics and how
- 21:38Speaker 4: they line up and build a team. And like the
- 21:41Speaker 4: highest ratios that he had ever had since we'd been
- 21:44Speaker 4: there had been 03, 07, 11, 19 was in like
- 21:50Speaker 4: all his metrics added up. What he's doing over there
- 21:52Speaker 4: is incredible. So it doesn't surprise me in the least
- 21:56Speaker 4: that he would be the commissioner of kind of this
- 21:58Speaker 4: 18 jersey.
- 22:00Speaker 3: He did a great job. Again, very appreciative of them
- 22:03Speaker 3: asking us. That's the first time they've ever asked us
- 22:06Speaker 3: to come be a part. I've gone to the practice.
- 22:09Speaker 3: They've reached out, hey, we're going to do it today
- 22:11Speaker 3: if you want to come to the practice. Off to
- 22:13Speaker 3: the side, talk with the guys that are wearing the jersey.
- 22:16Speaker 3: It was very cool. Coach O was in the building.
- 22:18Speaker 3: Gave him a shout out. Coach O kept it going.
- 22:21Speaker 3: Coach Kiffin is keeping it going as well. They don't
- 22:23Speaker 3: have to. It's not like it's in their contract. We
- 22:26Speaker 3: appreciate That they do. And so, Braylon Moore going to
- 22:29Speaker 3: be the next 18. I'm sure seven is coming in
- 22:33Speaker 3: a couple of days. I'm sure that's going to be
- 22:34Speaker 3: coming down the wire. Those typically kind of go somewhat together.
- 22:39Speaker 3: Sometimes it's the same day. Sometimes it's one. Then the
- 22:41Speaker 3: next day you'll have the other. So, I'm sure that
- 22:44Speaker 3: will come down the wire here pretty soon. And you
- 22:45Speaker 3: know what? It feels so good because this is like
- 22:47Speaker 3: actual football field stuff. Yeah. Like what jersey they're going
- 22:51Speaker 3: to be wearing and numbers.
- 22:53Speaker 2: This one's not controversial.
- 22:55Speaker 3: No, it's not. Like I told the team yesterday, like
- 22:59Speaker 3: one of the biggest senses of pride that me and
- 23:02Speaker 3: my family have is that every single year we get
- 23:05Speaker 3: to see a new number 18 run out of the
- 23:07Speaker 3: tunnel and that everybody in whatever stadium they play in
- 23:10Speaker 3: knows exactly what that means on and off the field.
- 23:13Speaker 3: I love number 18 being shared. I love being a
- 23:16Speaker 3: part of the group. I love being a part of
- 23:18Speaker 3: the fraternity that, you know, is talking throughout the year,
- 23:21Speaker 3: talking throughout football season together. So no. I know all
- 23:25Speaker 3: jokes aside, I am very glad that it becomes a
- 23:28Speaker 3: thing that we get to restart every single year and
- 23:31Speaker 3: add somebody new to the mix. So shout out to
- 23:34Speaker 3: Braylon Moore.
- 23:36Speaker 8: Thank God it's only one person. I don't know why,
- 23:39Speaker 8: but every time they give out two 18s in a year,
- 23:41Speaker 8: it just doesn't feel right.
- 23:44Speaker 4: It takes a little bit of oomph away from it, right?
- 23:46Speaker 4: And as much as I make fun of it, rightfully so.
- 23:51Speaker 2: It is a great thing.
- 23:53Speaker 4: Having the number, the pass it on, having something mean,
- 23:58Speaker 4: like something meaningful like that for your program, it's good
- 24:01Speaker 4: for the program. And it's something to cheer for, you know,
- 24:05Speaker 4: as much as I, you know, make fun of 18.
- 24:08Speaker 4: Big shout out to Philip Wright III and Jaden Breaker.
- 24:12Speaker 4: Both weren't 15 this year.
- 24:14Speaker 2: Big shout outs. Did you go for that? Not yet.
- 24:21Speaker 3: Not yet.
- 24:22Speaker 2: Not yet? Not yet.
- 24:22Speaker 7: You haven't got the call yet?
- 24:23Speaker 4: We haven't got the call yet. I'm... You don't want
- 24:26Speaker 4: to seem too eager. I'm expecting a text any day now.
- 24:29Speaker 3: Yeah.
- 24:30Speaker 8: If you just show up at the facility and tell them, like, hey,
- 24:32Speaker 8: when are we giving out 15? They'll probably let you in.
- 24:34Speaker 2: With my jersey on. Yeah. But, guys, this one's game-worn.
- 24:39Speaker 2: Game-worn jersey.
- 24:42Speaker 3: A lot of seven chatter in the old chat here.
- 24:49Speaker 2: So.
- 24:50Speaker 3: Yeah, actually... Might know who it is.
- 24:52Speaker 2: Did y'all know who 18 was before, like, going into
- 24:55Speaker 2: the meeting?
- 24:57Speaker 3: Very, like, had a conversation with Jack because there was
- 25:00Speaker 3: a handful of guys that we've been talking about. Yeah.
- 25:04Speaker 3: And for different reasons, and it's like that every single year. There's, like,
- 25:08Speaker 3: three people that are up for it, and it comes
- 25:09Speaker 3: down to the wire because, like, training camp's a part
- 25:12Speaker 3: of it. So there was three guys that we were
- 25:14Speaker 3: talking about, and then Jack's like, here's who it's going
- 25:17Speaker 3: to be and, you know, the reasons why. Because Jack's
- 25:19Speaker 3: there every single day.
- 25:20Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 25:21Speaker 3: He sees how they interact with everybody in the building
- 25:23Speaker 3: every single day. So, yeah, right before we went in,
- 25:26Speaker 3: we knew who it was. Any surprises for you? Not
- 25:30Speaker 3: with the three that were mentioned, no. Not with the three.
- 25:33Speaker 3: Like I said, they're there. We're out there every day. Yeah,
- 25:36Speaker 3: we're not there every day.
- 25:37Speaker 4: We're speculating based on what we see, and obviously we
- 25:40Speaker 4: talked about different names, and that wasn't one of the names,
- 25:42Speaker 4: but we're not there.
- 25:43Speaker 2: We're not there every day.
- 25:44Speaker 4: And offensive line isn't like, the sexiest position.
- 25:47Speaker 3: Sometimes I forget that they can do it. They just
- 25:49Speaker 3: won't be able to technically wear it.
- 25:50Speaker 2: Sure.
- 25:51Speaker 3: It's just a patch situation. Yeah.
- 25:53Speaker 2: Congrats, young man. Yeah. Very cool.
- 25:57Speaker 3: Glad to have him. Got to add him to the
- 25:59Speaker 3: group text. Do kids still group text?
- 26:01Speaker 1: Oh, yeah.
- 26:02Speaker 3: Okay. Did you do that?
- 26:03Speaker 7: Yeah, we group text every day.
- 26:05Speaker 3: I know we do. Yeah. But we're not kids anymore.
- 26:07Speaker 7: I guess so.
- 26:08Speaker 3: No, we're not. It's true.
- 26:09Speaker 7: We're mature adults. I think the kids still be texting.
- 26:12Speaker 2: Is he like, hey, add me on Snapchat?
- 26:14Speaker 3: That's what I'm saying. They do that? It's like, Add
- 26:16Speaker 3: me on this social media that you've never heard of,
- 26:17Speaker 3: old man.
- 26:18Speaker 2: Messages that delete.
- 26:20Speaker 7: What did he just think was an app earlier? Or
- 26:22Speaker 7: somebody thought was an app? What were we just talking about?
- 26:26Speaker 3: We don't remember because we're old.
- 26:27Speaker 7: I don't remember either.
- 26:28Speaker 2: Why'd you say?
- 26:30Speaker 3: Speak up. I can't hear you.
- 26:32Speaker 7: I'm getting old, too.
- 26:32Speaker 3: All right.
- 26:34Speaker 2: We're all very mature in this room. I mean, super.
- 26:38Speaker 2: Everyone says it. Actually, we pronounce it mature. That's my bad.
- 26:42Speaker 2: I got to catch up, then.
- 26:43Speaker 6: Yeah.
- 26:48Speaker 2: How does the team room look?
- 26:50Speaker 3: Good.
- 26:51Speaker 2: Any changes?
- 26:53Speaker 8: It looks like behind you in that picture. I can
- 26:57Speaker 8: tell you all the Kelly sayings and stuff on the wall.
- 27:01Speaker 3: Go on. Again, my favorite thing yesterday was when the
- 27:05Speaker 3: strength coach walked in and said one thing, and then
- 27:07Speaker 3: everybody was like deadly silent. That was my favorite thing.
- 27:11Speaker 3: I was like, oh, yeah. Yeah, this is how it's
- 27:14Speaker 3: supposed to be.
- 27:16Speaker 2: Coach speaks, everybody listens.
- 27:17Speaker 3: I love it.
- 27:18Speaker 4: I will say one of my favorite pictures from our
- 27:21Speaker 4: time at LSU was a picture of us in that
- 27:25Speaker 4: room when they announced that we were playing in the
- 27:27Speaker 4: national championship. It's like a renaissance painting. Like looking in
- 27:31Speaker 4: the background. Look at every different reaction. There's a story
- 27:34Speaker 4: to every single person. You can find that some way, somehow.
- 27:36Speaker 7: Doc just texted me. It's the team picture app.
- 27:40Speaker 3: Oh, yeah. Team picture app. It was Doc. Doc was
- 27:44Speaker 3: being an unk.
- 27:48Speaker 7: It's like as soon as you walk through this door,
- 27:51Speaker 7: you get the unk.
- 27:53Speaker 2: You should get 30.
- 27:53Speaker 3: Years on you. I know these are new seats. But
- 27:56Speaker 3: in the old seats, right before they redid it, see
- 27:59Speaker 3: these little wooden handles?
- 28:00Speaker 7: Yeah, what's with those tiny-ass desks that they have?
- 28:02Speaker 3: Well, yeah, just so you can take notes. Yeah, because
- 28:04Speaker 3: in the team room.
- 28:05Speaker 7: What notebook fits on that?
- 28:07Speaker 3: A small one.
- 28:08Speaker 2: It's like a spiral notebook.
- 28:09Speaker 3: And if you're left-handed, you're screwed because they're all right-handed.
- 28:10Speaker 7: Yeah, they're all on the other side.
- 28:12Speaker 3: But these little wooden armrests right there, they used to, like,
- 28:15Speaker 3: pop off. And, like, when you're in meetings all day,
- 28:17Speaker 3: you get bored, so you figure out things. And we
- 28:19Speaker 3: popped one off, and we all signed it. Like, underneath, like,
- 28:25Speaker 3: Stelzi and a bunch of us all signed it or
- 28:27Speaker 3: whatever and put it back. I meant to steal that
- 28:30Speaker 3: before they redid the.
- 28:33Speaker 2: Locker.
- 28:33Speaker 3: It was probably in a landfill somewhere. Yeah, probably so.
- 28:36Speaker 3: I don't know.
- 28:38Speaker 2: Someone might have it.
- 28:39Speaker 3: I'll just be selling anything to make some money. They
- 28:41Speaker 3: might have sold that puppy.
- 28:42Speaker 7: Weren't the Bengals selling, like, their TVs or something?
- 28:45Speaker 3: Oh, they were selling, like, their 13-inch TVs.
- 28:47Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 28:48Speaker 3: Like Sony TVs that they had up in the stadium.
- 28:50Speaker 2: This was watched by Joe Burrow.
- 28:52Speaker 3: No, they weren't even watching. They were like by the
- 28:53Speaker 3: concession stand.
- 28:55Speaker 2: Joe Burrow walked past these TVs one time.
- 28:58Speaker 3: Probably not even that.
- 28:58Speaker 2: You want to pay for them? It's a write-off.
- 29:00Speaker 7: I would buy a TV that Joe Burrow watched.
- 29:04Speaker 3: Even a 13-inch Sony that's not a flat screen? Just
- 29:07Speaker 3: walk by. Just walk by that TV. If Joe Burrow
- 29:10Speaker 3: had eyes on it.
- 29:11Speaker 2: Just walk by the TV and go. The 13-inch could
- 29:15Speaker 2: fit on your bedside table, too, so. I think I
- 29:20Speaker 2: smelled him.
- 29:21Speaker 7: I HDMI like a picture of him on there.
- 29:23Speaker 8: Matt, you go, that's what I thought it would smell like.
- 29:29Speaker 3: That's what I.
- 29:32Speaker 2: Thought.
- 29:33Speaker 3: Tristan said, Dick Dixon looks insane in the 18 photo.
- 29:36Speaker 3: Intense stare. He's always had that.
- 29:37Speaker 7: He's not very photogenic.
- 29:39Speaker 3: Really? has always had that stare that you're like, are
- 29:42Speaker 3: you mad at me? Did I do something? Are you
- 29:44Speaker 3: happy with me? Where are we right now in our relationship?
- 29:47Speaker 2: I know.
- 29:48Speaker 3: He's always had that.
- 29:49Speaker 2: He's quite getting us in trouble, too.
- 29:53Speaker 3: With what?
- 29:54Speaker 2: Oh. Making up stories around here.

- 32:50Speaker 2: How's Benny doing?
- 32:51Speaker 3: Benny's great.
- 32:52Speaker 2: Benny's a good dude, man.
- 32:53Speaker 3: Benny's one of the best.
- 32:54Speaker 2: Shout out to Benny.
- 32:56Speaker 3: Great dude. Great human being. Mm-hmm. We play Benny this weekend.
- 33:01Speaker 6: Ooh.
- 33:01Speaker 3: He's coaching a Catholic. Ooh. A little new high Catholic. Jamboree? Right? Yeah.
- 33:09Speaker 3: Is that when we tab that?
- 33:10Speaker 2: Jamboree?
- 33:10Speaker 3: Yeah.
- 33:11Speaker 2: And then week one next week, right, for you?
- 33:14Speaker 3: Yes, Rummel. Hey, just you high easing into the season.
- 33:18Speaker 6: St.
- 33:19Speaker 3: Charles Catholic, Catholic of Baton Rouge, Rumble.
- 33:22Speaker 2: And then the Rumble Raiders?
- 33:24Speaker 3: Rumble Raiders. That's Craig Stelz.
- 33:26Speaker 7: Yeah, the Legion Capital City kickoff.
- 33:29Speaker 3: Yeah.
- 33:30Speaker 7: Friday, August 28th.
- 33:31Speaker 3: What time is that, Alondra?
- 33:34Speaker 7: JV kicks that 6 p.m.
- 33:35Speaker 3: All right, so Knox Hester, 6 p.m. What time is that, Varsity?
- 33:40Speaker 7: I'm assuming right after.
- 33:41Speaker 3: Jackson Hester right after.
- 33:43Speaker 6: Mm-hmm.
- 33:44Speaker 7: It's presented by Legion and Walk-Ons. And McDonald's.
- 33:49Speaker 3: And Braden Landry. And whoever owns McDonald's.
- 33:51Speaker 6: Us.
- 33:52Speaker 8: Ronald.
- 33:53Speaker 7: And WBRZ and Lamar Advertising.
- 33:56Speaker 3: Us.
- 33:57Speaker 7: You can get us as an ESPN radio. And you
- 34:00Speaker 7: can get your tickets now at itutickets.com.
- 34:03Speaker 2: That's right.
- 34:03Speaker 7: Don't miss it.
- 34:05Speaker 3: I'll be there. I'll be there at 530. Get in
- 34:08Speaker 3: my parking spot. Get in my seat. Getting ready to
- 34:11Speaker 3: watch a little JV. And my brother coaches the Catholic.
- 34:17Speaker 2: I always forget that. Yeah.
- 34:19Speaker 3: He's the head freshman coach. We don't have a freshman
- 34:21Speaker 3: team at U High. We're not big enough. They had
- 34:24Speaker 3: like 111 freshmen or something wild like that.
- 34:25Speaker 2: Dude, we played them.
- 34:27Speaker 8: Their JV team in high school, when I was like
- 34:30Speaker 8: a sophomore, they had 60 kids on JV.
- 34:34Speaker 2: Yeah. I mean, they got a squad.
- 34:36Speaker 3: They got a huge, huge freshman class. So we don't
- 34:38Speaker 3: have one of those. But JV varsity, U High Catholic.
- 34:42Speaker 3: I think they're going to try to make this like
- 34:43Speaker 3: a yearly thing. They used to play in the regular season.
- 34:47Speaker 3: That went away. So now they're going to play in
- 34:48Speaker 3: the Jamboree, I believe, every year. So looking forward to it.
- 34:51Speaker 2: It's going to be fun.
- 34:52Speaker 3: J-Bones right there in the middle of the defense.
- 34:54Speaker 7: J-Bones.
- 34:54Speaker 2: Here we go. Picking up right where Lamar Brown left off.
- 34:59Speaker 3: Well, he's actually– well, he's playing the same position. He's
- 35:02Speaker 3: playing a zero nose and an odd front. So just
- 35:04Speaker 3: all the guards.
- 35:05Speaker 2: Here we go.
- 35:07Speaker 3: He's not sore, is he? We didn't hurt his back.
- 35:10Speaker 2: The other day?
- 35:11Speaker 8: You prepped him for it. I mean, he's taking on
- 35:12Speaker 8: two guards at once. He's like, this is nothing compared
- 35:14Speaker 8: to Matt's treadmill.
- 35:15Speaker 2: That's exactly right.
- 35:16Speaker 3: Let me tell you something. Matt's treadmill can go fly kite.
- 35:24Speaker 3: I told him after we set it up for the final,
- 35:26Speaker 3: I said, you and Lacey better be the most fit
- 35:28Speaker 3: couple in Baton Rouge.
- 35:30Speaker 2: If there's a nuclear war, just get behind that thing.
- 35:33Speaker 6: Jeez.
- 35:33Speaker 2: Because it ain't budging.
- 35:35Speaker 3: It was industrial. You know what I mean? It wasn't
- 35:38Speaker 3: one of those walking pads that everybody has, and you
- 35:41Speaker 3: go and you can put it in the back of
- 35:42Speaker 3: your truck and set it up.
- 35:43Speaker 2: It doesn't fold or anything.
- 35:45Speaker 3: Hell no, it doesn't fold.
- 35:46Speaker 2: It folds you.
- 35:48Speaker 3: It looked like he went and got the wheels on
- 35:52Speaker 3: a John Deere tractor.
- 35:53Speaker 2: It's on tracks. Once you run on tracks, though.
- 35:57Speaker 3: Actually, you know what's even bigger than that? You ever
- 35:59Speaker 3: seen the movie Fury with Brad Pitt? Oh, yeah. They
- 36:01Speaker 3: drive the tanks. It looked like one of the tank wheels, actually.
- 36:04Speaker 3: That's more... of a correct description of what it was.
- 36:09Speaker 4: Yeah, you want to run on the tracks because you'll
- 36:12Speaker 4: never go back to one of those band treadmills again.
- 36:14Speaker 2: Those are the worst. Once these feet have felt running
- 36:18Speaker 2: on that woodway, my God. It's impressive.
- 36:24Speaker 7: My gosh.
- 36:25Speaker 2: My God.
- 36:27Speaker 3: Golly.
- 36:29Speaker 2: But they're heavy. I'll give them that. They were well built,
- 36:32Speaker 2: well constructed, probably in America. Right here. Actually, they're both
- 36:37Speaker 2: in Wisconsin.
- 36:38Speaker 3: Oh, Wisconsin.
- 36:39Speaker 2: Wisconsin.
- 36:40Speaker 4: So when I left Green Bay, I had our strength
- 36:42Speaker 4: coach in Green Bay give the Woodway guy a call.
- 36:45Speaker 3: This guy's always looking for a deal.
- 36:47Speaker 2: I was.
- 36:47Speaker 4: I got me a refurbished, like new, Woodway back in
- 36:51Speaker 4: the day. She's lasted a long time. Back in 2015,
- 36:58Speaker 4: I think. That's not interesting at all.
- 37:05Speaker 2: They make them curved? The curved ones, I do like
- 37:07Speaker 2: the curved ones.
- 37:08Speaker 3: How many times have you had that? How many times
- 37:11Speaker 3: have you been on that treadmill?
- 37:12Speaker 2: Quite a bit. Quite a bit.
- 37:15Speaker 4: And let me tell you, when Lacey was going through
- 37:19Speaker 4: the pregnancy days, she was on that thing a lot.
- 37:23Speaker 3: Okay, that's fair.
- 37:24Speaker 2: There it is. That's it.
- 37:25Speaker 3: There it is.
- 37:26Speaker 2: That's it.
- 37:27Speaker 3: That's the one. Right there. If you told me it
- 37:30Speaker 3: weighed 1,000 pounds, I'd say yep.
- 37:33Speaker 2: No, you'd say you're lying.
- 37:35Speaker 4: Because it weighs at least 2,000.
- 37:38Speaker 2: That's a ton right there. It's a unit.
- 37:42Speaker 3: Hey, Matt, just sitting there like this.
- 37:45Speaker 2: Yep.
- 37:45Speaker 3: Over here. That way. Yep. Sand it up. Go around here.
- 37:50Speaker 3: Go through that door.
- 37:51Speaker 2: I helped take the door off.
- 37:53Speaker 3: You did. Not of the, like, the treadmill. Just, like,
- 37:57Speaker 3: the door, the entryway for us to get it out.
- 37:59Speaker 2: Yeah. I got to swing it. I'll tell you what.
- 38:04Speaker 3: Swing it.
- 38:05Speaker 4: The human beings that day did a great job moving,
- 38:07Speaker 4: but I was more impressed with those dollies. They looked
- 38:10Speaker 4: like they were made of plastic, but my God, they
- 38:12Speaker 4: handled some weight that day.
- 38:14Speaker 3: Who brought the dollies to the guy's house? Y'all did.
- 38:17Speaker 3: Y'all brought it. Y'all brought the heat. Not our first radio.
- 38:24Speaker 2: Y'all brought the chief, too.
- 38:25Speaker 3: Yeah, we did. Katie Hester, if you're ever moving and
- 38:29Speaker 3: you need somebody to make sure the plan is going
- 38:31Speaker 3: to work out, invite my wife.
- 38:35Speaker 4: The only bad decision is no decision when you're doing
- 38:37Speaker 4: something like that. So you've got to have somebody making
- 38:39Speaker 4: those decisions. You can't be like, I don't know, what
- 38:41Speaker 4: should we do first? Where should it go? How should
- 38:43Speaker 4: it fit? No, just start doing it.
- 38:45Speaker 3: That's right. Inside the chat from Steven. Odds on Joe
- 38:52Speaker 3: Sloan winning the Broyles Award this year.
- 38:55Speaker 2: Long shot. The Broyles Award.
- 39:01Speaker 3: That goes to the nation's best assistant football coach, Matt.
- 39:08Speaker 6: No.
- 39:08Speaker 2: No, he's not going to win that one. Will Stein's
- 39:11Speaker 2: got to be running their offense, right?
- 39:14Speaker 3: I think Joe is actually calling plays. That's what Will
- 39:17Speaker 3: told me at media day.
- 39:19Speaker 2: I mean, Stein was good at Oregon.
- 39:21Speaker 3: It depends on what kind of quarterback, too, though. For
- 39:26Speaker 3: Joe's offense, he can't have a pocket passer. Not in
- 39:29Speaker 3: due the things that they did a year ago.
- 39:31Speaker 2: What did we do a year ago?
- 39:33Speaker 3: That's what I'm saying. He ran his offense like they
- 39:35Speaker 3: had a dual-threat quarterback, and they did not have a
- 39:37Speaker 3: dual-threat quarterback. They ran the offense like they had a
- 39:40Speaker 3: quarterback that could run. I'm not saying Garrett's not athletic,
- 39:44Speaker 3: but he's not a runner. The throws that they were
- 39:46Speaker 3: asking him to make were throws that were from a
- 39:49Speaker 3: quarterback that can't make the throws, he could make the throws.
- 39:52Speaker 3: You know what I'm saying? Like, so, like, the offense
- 39:54Speaker 3: just– it was oil and water, to say the least. Yeah. Because, like,
- 39:59Speaker 3: we see what Garrett's doing in training camp and in
- 40:02Speaker 3: preseason games. He can make every throw, and you were
- 40:06Speaker 3: asking him to make the most– And.
- 40:07Speaker 4: Maybe it is unfair analysis of Joe Sloan because he
- 40:12Speaker 4: was dealing with a quarterback that was– That was injured.
- 40:14Speaker 2: That injured.
- 40:15Speaker 4: So, you know– Maybe they just went too far one direction.
- 40:18Speaker 4: I think they overcorrected way too much. And then once
- 40:22Speaker 4: they did that, they couldn't bring themselves out of it.
- 40:25Speaker 2: But it was so bad, we will make fun of you.
- 40:29Speaker 3: Yes.
- 40:29Speaker 2: No matter whose fault it was.
- 40:30Speaker 3: I do remember last year, our first film review, we
- 40:35Speaker 3: were like, did we see what we think we saw?
- 40:37Speaker 3: Because we were surprised by it. Because it was bad.
- 40:41Speaker 3: And we kind of like– we were not tiptoeing around it.
- 40:43Speaker 3: I mean, we laid it out there.
- 40:45Speaker 2: We beat Clemson last year.
- 40:46Speaker 3: Yeah, but we feel like we had issues with some
- 40:48Speaker 3: stuff that we saw. I remember going into the next week,
- 40:53Speaker 3: I guess it would have been maybe the Ole Miss
- 40:54Speaker 3: game after you lost. We were like, hey, we just
- 40:56Speaker 3: got to do it. We got to let the people
- 40:58Speaker 3: know what this is.
- 40:59Speaker 4: At a certain point when there was enough losses, we
- 41:01Speaker 4: were like, okay, we bleed purple and gold, but we
- 41:05Speaker 4: are going to have to hate on purple and gold
- 41:08Speaker 4: for a second.
- 41:11Speaker 2: I forget– That's how we showed our love.
- 41:13Speaker 3: What was the emoji game? Was that A & M?
- 41:17Speaker 3: This one? Yeah, where you just had the thumbs down.
- 41:19Speaker 2: I think so.
- 41:20Speaker 4: The one that really just– the one that– it was
- 41:23Speaker 4: the one where Harold Perkins loafed on the long touchdown.
- 41:26Speaker 2: I think it was A & M. Was it Marcel?
- 41:28Speaker 3: I think so.
- 41:29Speaker 4: Who scrambled out, and he loafed. That was when I
- 41:31Speaker 4: was like, all right, Jake, we've got to take the
- 41:33Speaker 4: gloves off here.
- 41:34Speaker 3: Yep. And we've also got to take a break.
- 41:37Speaker 2: Yep.
- 41:37Speaker 3: And we'll do so now. More OTV when we come back.
- 41:40Speaker 1: Off the bench.
- 41:42Speaker 3: All right, go to FABT.com. FABT.com. First American Bank and Trust.
- 41:47Speaker 3: They've been in the game for over a century. Well,
- 41:49Speaker 3: you don't do anything for over a century unless you're
- 41:51Speaker 3: doing it the right way. We know that. But certainly
- 41:53Speaker 3: handling other people's money. But that's what they do at
- 41:56Speaker 3: First American Bank and Trust. They handle your money. They
- 41:59Speaker 3: have a relationship with you. Your face, your name, not
- 42:03Speaker 3: just another account number. That's because they are local. But
- 42:06Speaker 3: they're local with all the bells and whistles of any
- 42:08Speaker 3: national bank. They also make every decision right here locally.
- 42:11Speaker 3: They don't call. They don't pick up the phone. Hey,
- 42:13Speaker 3: San Francisco, can we do this? Hey, New York, can
- 42:14Speaker 3: we do that? They don't do that. They make decisions
- 42:17Speaker 3: in the branch because they are a local bank that
- 42:19Speaker 3: cares about you. F-A-B-T.com.
- 42:22Speaker 4: Yeah, just think about you running a business and you
- 42:23Speaker 4: have a Louisiana company that serves Louisiana people and Louisiana folks.
- 42:27Speaker 4: And you need a loan. You want a Louisiana company
- 42:30Speaker 4: making those decisions for you. Like Jake said, not calling California,
- 42:34Speaker 4: not calling New York City for those. So Make sure
- 42:36Speaker 4: you're doing it with the people that are local. And
- 42:37Speaker 4: they got all the bells and whistles as the big
- 42:39Speaker 4: boys right over there. First American Banking Trust, FABT.com.
- 42:53Speaker 1: Welcome back to Off the Bench. Wednesday's show is brought
- 42:56Speaker 1: to you by Poncho.
- 42:58Speaker 6: Turn the lights off in this place And she shines
- 43:03Speaker 6: just like a star And I swear I know her face.
- 43:09Speaker 6: I just don't know who you are. Turn the music
- 43:15Speaker 6: up in here.
- 43:17Speaker 3: All right, welcome back in OTV. Here live from the
- 43:20Speaker 3: Raising Cane Studio.
- 43:22Speaker 4: Dude, this SpaceX stuff is fascinating to me.
- 43:27Speaker 2: You know I love space.
- 43:29Speaker 3: You got three minutes to elaborate.
- 43:33Speaker 2: Well, SpaceX, come to Louisiana. Big old rocket site.
- 43:39Speaker 4: It's going to be 14,000 acre area, 12 miles, like
- 43:44Speaker 4: a whole site that measures 12 miles. They're going to
- 43:46Speaker 4: have a, what is this, a star factory, I guess,
- 43:50Speaker 4: where they're going to make the rockets. It's going to
- 43:51Speaker 4: be 7.6 million square feet large.
- 43:55Speaker 3: That feels big.
- 43:56Speaker 4: Multiple launching sites that are all going to be like
- 43:59Speaker 4: a mile and a half apart. So, like, if you
- 44:00Speaker 4: look at the, like, I'm looking at a picture on
- 44:02Speaker 4: Twitter here that's, You look at the overhead view of it,
- 44:05Speaker 4: and it looks like they're right next to each other.
- 44:06Speaker 4: It's just so massive. They're a mile and a half
- 44:08Speaker 4: apart from each other, these launch sites. And there's multiple
- 44:10Speaker 4: launch sites. We're taking humanity to the next level here.
- 44:15Speaker 4: But could create what Elon said yesterday.
- 44:18Speaker 2: He was meeting.
- 44:19Speaker 4: There's some really cool videos of him and Governor Landry
- 44:22Speaker 4: talking about the project and what it means to Louisiana.
- 44:25Speaker 4: And could bring up to 10,000 jobs to Louisiana. So
- 44:29Speaker 4: fascinating stuff.
- 44:31Speaker 2: To the moon. Actually, past the moon. Love space. It's horrifying.
- 44:41Speaker 3: Scarier, space or the deep ocean? The ocean.
- 44:44Speaker 2: The ocean.
- 44:45Speaker 3: Deep ocean.
- 44:45Speaker 2: I don't know, man.
- 44:47Speaker 3: Not deep ocean.
- 44:48Speaker 2: The deep ocean is awful.
- 44:50Speaker 3: I feel like we.
- 44:51Speaker 7: Know more about space than we know about the ocean.
- 44:53Speaker 2: It would do.
- 44:54Speaker 3: There's like creatures down there, like real creatures.
- 44:57Speaker 2: In space, I'm just worried about being alone.
- 44:59Speaker 7: Creatures we've never seen.
- 45:00Speaker 2: In space, I'm worried about what's with me in the ocean.
- 45:03Speaker 3: Yeah.
- 45:04Speaker 4: The ocean's scary because it's, you could probably go, you
- 45:08Speaker 4: could attain that.
- 45:09Speaker 2: You could go to that.
- 45:11Speaker 4: Like, space is a little bit, like, that's, to us,
- 45:14Speaker 4: that's science fiction almost because it's so far away. But, like,
- 45:18Speaker 4: deep ocean right here. You could access it if you
- 45:22Speaker 4: wanted to. In a man-made submarine. There's a lot that
- 45:28Speaker 4: we have not seen, though.
- 45:29Speaker 3: Just like space.
- 45:30Speaker 2: For sure. But it's here. But there's an end to
- 45:33Speaker 2: it at some point. Space, there's no end, bro.
- 45:37Speaker 3: Eventually it ends.
- 45:38Speaker 7: How do you know that the ocean ends?
- 45:39Speaker 2: Is the Earth flat?
- 45:43Speaker 4: Who knows?
- 45:43Speaker 3: Who's to say?
- 45:44Speaker 2: Who's to say?
- 45:45Speaker 7: How am I supposed to know if the Earth is
- 45:47Speaker 7: flat or not?
- 45:48Speaker 4: What's the one thing? The Earth's a donut shape? Yeah,
- 45:50Speaker 4: which is even wilder. Is that the Kyrie thing? The
- 45:54Speaker 4: donut-shaped Earth?
- 45:55Speaker 7: No, Kyrie was a flat Earth.
- 45:56Speaker 2: But there's a faction that's even more.
- 45:58Speaker 7: There is a donut one.
- 46:00Speaker 2: Like, when I looked, In the horizon, it doesn't curve.
- 46:03Speaker 2: You see?
- 46:06Speaker 3: Was that supposed to be Taylor?
- 46:09Speaker 2: That's just flat earthers. I like the donut thing, though.
- 46:14Speaker 2: Like the ocean. Like the sky is actually the ocean,
- 46:17Speaker 2: I think is what it is.
- 46:17Speaker 7: Yeah, somebody was telling us about that. It has a name.
- 46:24Speaker 2: It does have a name.
- 46:24Speaker 3: What did y'all talk about?
- 46:25Speaker 2: Delusion, I think is the name.
- 46:27Speaker 7: No, it has a real name.
- 46:30Speaker 3: And we've got a real owl. Hour number three, coming
- 46:32Speaker 3: up next.
- 46:33Speaker 1: Off the bench.
