- 0:16Speaker 1: mom is the coolest place to be. Here in the

- 0:23Speaker 1: make a great story later. And let's face it, you
- 0:27Speaker 1: don't laugh sometimes you're gonna cry. Join us in having
- 0:31Speaker 1: a good laugh together. I'm Monica Samuels. You are now
- 0:35Speaker 1: inside the Mom's Club, your private destination for all things.
- 0:39Speaker 2: Mom Monny, I'm right. Welcome moms.
- 0:46Speaker 1: Welcome to Inside the Mom's Club. I'm your host, Monica Samuels,
- 0:50Speaker 1: and I'm here with my co host, Julie Orchideo July.
- 0:54Speaker 3: So thrilled to be here.
- 0:56Speaker 1: It's fun to be here now. We have been traveling
- 0:58Speaker 1: so much. I mean I've been going from one trip
- 1:01Speaker 1: to the next.
- 1:02Speaker 3: Yeah.
- 1:02Speaker 1: And a few weeks ago, I was scheduled to go
- 1:06Speaker 1: to disney World because we have an annual trip with
- 1:09Speaker 1: my mother, sister, and niece to the Epcot Food and
- 1:12Speaker 1: Life that's so beautiful. And there was a hurricane coming,
- 1:16Speaker 1: Hurricane Milton. And I guess your daughter is in Orlando.
- 1:21Speaker 2: So is she Georgia?
- 1:22Speaker 3: You are working for a Universal Orlando.
- 1:24Speaker 2: And what did you do when you heard the hurricane
- 1:26Speaker 2: was coming.
- 1:27Speaker 3: I was out Saturday night. It's feeling a little rough
- 1:30Speaker 3: on Sunday morning, not gonna lie rolled over and I
- 1:33Speaker 3: was like, oh lord, she's only twenty two, but she's
- 1:36Speaker 3: you know, adultine ish. And I called her. I said,
- 1:40Speaker 3: you're on a flight tonight. She goes, ah, I'm gonna
- 1:42Speaker 3: ride this out. Okay, you know, no one, it's gonna
- 1:48Speaker 3: you don't know what's gonna happen, and you need to
- 1:50Speaker 3: come home. I mean, your job is not going to
- 1:53Speaker 3: be going on. So I couldn't deal with it at
- 1:55Speaker 3: the time. I rolled over. I said, call me back
- 1:57Speaker 3: in an hour when you have your head screwed on
- 1:59Speaker 3: stream and she got on the flight.
- 2:02Speaker 2: And so while you were doing that, yeah, I was,
- 2:06Speaker 2: oh god.
- 2:07Speaker 1: I forgot looking at YouTube videos on how you get
- 2:11Speaker 1: through a hurricane at Walt Disney World, and then I
- 2:14Speaker 1: researched on ARII like, what do you buy to take
- 2:17Speaker 1: with you if you're going to a hurricane.
- 2:20Speaker 3: I envision you, like wearing the long yellow with the
- 2:23Speaker 3: hat like on the salt container going yeah, flying into
- 2:27Speaker 3: the hurricane, trying to have it first, get it done.
- 2:29Speaker 1: The next day, my sister when it was we're supposed
- 2:31Speaker 1: to leave, and I said, how are we going to
- 2:33Speaker 1: do this? And she said, Monica, we are not flying
- 2:38Speaker 1: to a hurricane.
- 2:39Speaker 3: Yeah, take your eighty two old mona into a hurricane.
- 2:41Speaker 3: That sounds great.
- 2:42Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 2:42Speaker 1: So thank goodness had wiser people in charge of me.
- 2:48Speaker 2: But I did reschedule, my true did go.
- 2:52Speaker 3: And last the only person I know who owns these.
- 2:54Speaker 1: Well, I'm just saying Disney is upping their ear games. Okay,
- 2:58Speaker 1: Now this is a podcast, so for those on YouTube
- 3:01Speaker 1: can see. So if you're into food, this is the
- 3:04Speaker 1: doll whip.
- 3:05Speaker 3: Oh, I get it. I get it again. You are
- 3:09Speaker 3: the only right I know who has those.
- 3:11Speaker 2: Oh well, you want to know what's evenson?
- 3:13Speaker 3: Who?
- 3:13Speaker 1: Okay, talk about limited edition specially, I'm the queen shopper
- 3:18Speaker 1: of everything in America. Actually, Duni and Burke has come
- 3:23Speaker 1: out with these limited editions. I'm protecting these with those
- 3:27Speaker 1: were cheap. Yeah, no, so don't tell my husband.
- 3:31Speaker 3: I won't tell them.
- 3:32Speaker 2: I won't tell Leather Mickey Mouse.
- 3:35Speaker 3: I mean they're everything, Monica.
- 3:37Speaker 1: I mean, I mean I have to be. I'm a
- 3:38Speaker 1: little embarrassed wearing them right now because they don't match
- 3:40Speaker 1: my outfit.
- 3:41Speaker 2: But aren't they great?
- 3:43Speaker 3: They're fantastic. They came with their own case. I mean, yeah, yeah,
- 3:47Speaker 3: they're very special. So there you go for those to
- 3:49Speaker 3: be buried in those I think that's what I say.
- 3:52Speaker 1: No, I don't think so, but but believe it or not,
- 3:56Speaker 1: there are people out there.
- 3:57Speaker 2: This is a big deal. Actually, I know, I know.
- 4:00Speaker 3: I was kind of okay, Well, while you're gone, you're
- 4:02Speaker 3: Christmas people also called you.
- 4:04Speaker 2: Oh yeah.
- 4:04Speaker 1: So when I got home, so I'd cut a special
- 4:08Speaker 1: deal with my luncare people that they would put my
- 4:12Speaker 1: Christmas lights in early and I'd get a ten percent discount.
- 4:16Speaker 1: So when I got home, my whole house house is
- 4:19Speaker 1: lit up. I'm the only one in the whole neighborhood
- 4:22Speaker 1: with Christmas lights on my house.
- 4:25Speaker 3: They're actually before Halloween.
- 4:27Speaker 2: They're on, yes, very early. But then I thought about it.
- 4:31Speaker 1: You know, we have a lot of friends for huge,
- 4:33Speaker 1: huge Hallmark fans, right, so I think I should just
- 4:36Speaker 1: have a big Christmas watching countdown to Christmas watching party
- 4:41Speaker 1: at my house.
- 4:42Speaker 3: You guys don't know, but Monica has a tree on
- 4:43Speaker 3: every floor of her house. And I mean it's not
- 4:48Speaker 3: like it's five floors, but when you walk around her house,
- 4:50Speaker 3: I think she should give kids tours at Christmas time.
- 4:53Speaker 1: I could, I could, But anyway, I'm trying to just
- 4:55Speaker 1: a lot of fun. Maybe I should just put the
- 4:57Speaker 1: little Hallmark thing out front so it looks like people
- 4:59Speaker 1: can think, oh, oh, I see what she's doing, not
- 5:02Speaker 1: what kind of person puts Christmas lights.
- 5:04Speaker 3: Up in Well, the five of us also do something
- 5:06Speaker 3: at Christmas with Hallmark, and we watch big time.
- 5:11Speaker 1: Yes, and so that is why we were so excited
- 5:15Speaker 1: to have with us our guest today. She has starred
- 5:18Speaker 1: as the lead in over twenty films across various Hallmark channels,
- 5:23Speaker 1: and she is part of that Upcoming or the Countdown
- 5:26Speaker 1: to Christmas lineup. Her upcoming film is Our Holidays Story,
- 5:31Speaker 1: which is airing on November two. She has reprised her
- 5:35Speaker 1: role as Goldie Berry in the fifth installment of the
- 5:37Speaker 1: popular Curious Caterer mystery series, Curious Caterer Forbidden. You and
- 5:43Speaker 1: I were talking about watching that as soon as we can.
- 5:47Speaker 1: She's currently the president of the Foundation the board of
- 5:49Speaker 1: Trustees for the Children's Hospital Los Angeles. She's a board
- 5:52Speaker 1: member of Mind What Matters and Putting These Mickey Ears.
- 6:00Speaker 1: She was part of the all New in the nineties,
- 6:03Speaker 1: the All New Mickey Mouse Club, where she starred with
- 6:06Speaker 1: Justin Timberlake, Britney Spears, Ryan Gosling, Carrie Russell, and Christina Aguilar.
- 6:12Speaker 1: Please welcome, Nikki DeLoach. Welcome to the Mom's Club. We're
- 6:15Speaker 1: so excited to have you here.
- 6:18Speaker 3: Hi, we are beyond you thrill.
- 6:21Speaker 1: Yes, I honestly meeting you from my mother, who is
- 6:25Speaker 1: a huge, huge fan. June is a huge fan. I
- 6:28Speaker 1: couldn't meet Elvis and she couldn't be more excited that
- 6:31Speaker 1: I was getting to meet you, so.
- 6:33Speaker 4: So so kind. Thank you, and shout out to June.
- 6:37Speaker 2: Thank you. She will appreciate. Oh well, she'll love that.
- 6:40Speaker 4: Thank you, Adam absolutely will love it.
- 6:43Speaker 1: Well, tell us about our holiday story. So if I'm
- 6:46Speaker 1: gonna have a Chris Christmas countdown party at my house
- 6:49Speaker 1: with lights and everything, what can they look forward to?
- 6:53Speaker 1: What can my guests look forward to?
- 6:54Speaker 4: Feel good movie? Obviously, But I've done a lot on
- 6:59Speaker 4: the the Homemark Drama Mystery Channel where I grieve a
- 7:03Speaker 4: lot and I cry a lot, and I've done five
- 7:06Speaker 4: years of those, and so this year I said to
- 7:08Speaker 4: the network, can I please just do a comedy this year?
- 7:13Speaker 4: Just to feel good company. I've cried a lot. I'm like,
- 7:19Speaker 4: just I'm tapped out on the crap.
- 7:21Speaker 3: Like I got that covered on my own totally.
- 7:24Speaker 4: Yeah, you know, I always feel like I'm Holly Hunter
- 7:26Speaker 4: and broadcast news. I find a place to cry once
- 7:29Speaker 4: a day just to get it over with, you know,
- 7:31Speaker 4: because inevitably will happen. Yes, but yeah, So our holiday story,
- 7:37Speaker 4: it takes place in two different time periods, so present
- 7:40Speaker 4: day and then when myself and my husband met many
- 7:46Speaker 4: years back, So there's a period piece aspect of it
- 7:49Speaker 4: where the clothes got to change. It was the nineties
- 7:52Speaker 4: or early two thousands, actually early two thousands, and so
- 7:56Speaker 4: that was super fun to kind of go back in
- 7:58Speaker 4: time and take makeup off and put makeup on and
- 8:02Speaker 4: make yourself look older in present day and younger in
- 8:06Speaker 4: the past. And so it's really a story about serendipity
- 8:12Speaker 4: and faith and if two people were meant together, if
- 8:15Speaker 4: something is meant to happen, there's nothing anyone or anything
- 8:19Speaker 4: can do to stand in the way of that. So
- 8:21Speaker 4: it's yeah, and it's fun and it's funny. It's very quirky.
- 8:25Speaker 4: I've never Joa Batkin wrote it, and she's one of
- 8:27Speaker 4: my favorite Hallmark Christmas. She just writes beautiful Christmas movies
- 8:33Speaker 4: and she did a beautiful job with this, so I
- 8:36Speaker 4: was really happy to go and do it and kind
- 8:38Speaker 4: of be funny and cry. I mean I do cry once,
- 8:41Speaker 4: but that's different than crying for a whole movie.
- 8:44Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 8:44Speaker 1: I wondered if they ever cry. And the Christmas movies
- 8:46Speaker 1: at all are.
- 8:48Speaker 3: Sad at all too.
- 8:49Speaker 4: Yeah. Yeah. So there's the Hallmark Channel proper right, it's
- 8:53Speaker 4: more you know, comedy and more happy and that kind
- 9:00Speaker 4: of thing. And then there's the Hallmark Mystery or homework
- 9:03Speaker 4: drama channel, and they also do their own movies and
- 9:07Speaker 4: those are more dramatic in nature. They're meaningful, they're beautiful.
- 9:10Speaker 4: I'd say the movies that I've made that I get
- 9:13Speaker 4: the most feedback from from fans are the ones I've
- 9:17Speaker 4: done on that network. Five More Minutes, which was about grief.
- 9:21Speaker 4: The Gift of Peace was also about grief, a woman
- 9:24Speaker 4: who found a grief group because she was stuck in
- 9:26Speaker 4: her own grief after the loss of her husband. Those
- 9:29Speaker 4: movies have been the most meaningful for people, for sure,
- 9:32Speaker 4: and probably the ones I'm most proud of, you know,
- 9:35Speaker 4: some of the ones I'm most proud of on the network.
- 9:37Speaker 4: But this year, I just really just the world is
- 9:41Speaker 4: heavy and I just want I wanted to be weird
- 9:44Speaker 4: and silly, and I wanted to laugh and make other
- 9:46Speaker 4: people laugh.
- 9:47Speaker 1: Well, and the world wants Hallmark because you anyone I
- 9:50Speaker 1: know that loves Hallmark, that you can like my mother,
- 9:53Speaker 1: you can sit her in front of Hallmarks.
- 9:54Speaker 2: He could stay there for four weeks and just never move, Yeah,
- 9:57Speaker 2: and be totally happy. And you know it's it's not
- 10:00Speaker 2: there's rare.
- 10:01Speaker 4: I know that joy like that. Oh no, well that's
- 10:06Speaker 4: the reason, you know. I did my first Hallmark movie
- 10:09Speaker 4: in twenty fifteen, and when I got the response from
- 10:12Speaker 4: my hometown because I had never watched a Hallmark movie.
- 10:15Speaker 4: I mean, of course I knew about the brand. It's
- 10:18Speaker 4: a massive brand. Yeah, you can't buy a card that's
- 10:21Speaker 4: not a Hallmark card. Really, I mean, they've been around
- 10:24Speaker 4: for so long, but I didn't know the world of
- 10:28Speaker 4: the movies that they make. And when I was with
- 10:31Speaker 4: people in my hometown and their response to the movie,
- 10:34Speaker 4: I was like, what is this? This is I've been
- 10:36Speaker 4: doing this since I was seven eight years old, and
- 10:38Speaker 4: I've never experienced this kind of.
- 10:41Speaker 3: Response like intense loving feedback.
- 10:45Speaker 4: So passionately loving and hopeful and happy, and the joy
- 10:50Speaker 4: that just joy was the world that just like would
- 10:53Speaker 4: come out of them. I thought, I think I want
- 10:58Speaker 4: to be a part of that. It's like, of course
- 11:01Speaker 4: we want to make the secessions of the world or
- 11:04Speaker 4: TV shows like Deep and some of you know, but
- 11:06Speaker 4: to actually bring people joy and comfort and peace, especially
- 11:10Speaker 4: those that are going through really hard things. There's no
- 11:14Speaker 4: greater gift if you're doing what we do in terms
- 11:18Speaker 4: of bringing people content.
- 11:19Speaker 1: Yeah, you started your career bringing people joy because the
- 11:22Speaker 1: Mickey Mouse Club a Mickey mouse Club that is so fun.
- 11:26Speaker 1: And when I'm thinking the whole cast, I mean, if
- 11:29Speaker 1: you announced that cast right now, it's like, oh.
- 11:31Speaker 2: Wow, you know, all of you are so successful.
- 11:34Speaker 1: Julie and I went to a justin Timberlake concert and.
- 11:38Speaker 4: A and he's coming back the recent one.
- 11:41Speaker 2: Yeah, the world wasn't great.
- 11:43Speaker 3: I'm just going to ask you. I'm sure you've attended
- 11:45Speaker 3: many this tour.
- 11:47Speaker 4: Hell and I've seen five of his shows.
- 11:49Speaker 3: The dancing and his backup dancers and the way I
- 11:52Speaker 3: think he's the greatest hard I mean, his whole his
- 11:55Speaker 3: whole team.
- 11:56Speaker 4: People don't understand I have. I mean, he's family, so
- 12:02Speaker 4: of course I know what he does. I know how
- 12:05Speaker 4: hard he works. He's like the hardest working person I know.
- 12:09Speaker 4: And people don't understand what he puts into a show
- 12:12Speaker 4: to make it look like it's as effortless as breathing.
- 12:15Speaker 4: I was in a girl band where we sang and
- 12:17Speaker 4: we dance.
- 12:18Speaker 3: And mother managed. Is that right?
- 12:20Speaker 4: Yes, Okay, let me tell you it is so hard.
- 12:23Speaker 4: Get on a treadmill and try to sing, and then
- 12:26Speaker 4: try to sing like he sings. Then you'll know how
- 12:30Speaker 4: hard it is. Like literally, get on the treadmill and
- 12:32Speaker 4: run and try to sing. And that's what it's like.
- 12:36Speaker 4: You're dancing, you're bouncing around, you're moving, and he's doing
- 12:39Speaker 4: it for two and a.
- 12:40Speaker 3: Half hours, hours whatever night, And.
- 12:44Speaker 4: I just he is. He will go down in history
- 12:47Speaker 4: as being one of the greatest performers of all time,
- 12:49Speaker 4: all time.
- 12:50Speaker 3: He's incredibly, incredibly talented. Yeah, but so are you. And
- 12:54Speaker 3: so I want to tell you that not only does
- 12:58Speaker 3: she have done all these movies, but you actually have
- 13:04Speaker 3: a podcast I do, and you guys actually bring even
- 13:08Speaker 3: though it's talking about you know, caregiver vers of you know,
- 13:13Speaker 3: you've had deeply affected by dementia Alzheimer's, And I'm fanning
- 13:17Speaker 3: hard because I'm a nurse and so I know.
- 13:22Speaker 4: I listened to the podcast and heard you say that
- 13:24Speaker 4: you were a nurse. What kind of nurse I was?
- 13:25Speaker 5: Any?
- 13:25Speaker 3: Our nurse for fourteen years been really considering doing hospice nursing,
- 13:29Speaker 3: So of course I went cuckoo over Nurse Julie.
- 13:31Speaker 4: Not my name is Julie, but we have her in
- 13:33Speaker 4: our one of our episodes.
- 13:34Speaker 3: Yes, I mean that's what I was listening to. So,
- 13:36Speaker 3: but I just want to touch base on that, because
- 13:38Speaker 3: what you guys are actually doing is bringing a little
- 13:41Speaker 3: bit of joy in the grief.
- 13:42Speaker 2: That you have.
- 13:43Speaker 3: And what you said, they do this great dance party,
- 13:48Speaker 3: and what you said is it's really a love letter
- 13:50Speaker 3: to our parents, right, And I love the way that
- 13:53Speaker 3: you're honoring everything. So tell us a little bit about,
- 13:57Speaker 3: like mind, what matters?
- 13:58Speaker 2: How did it all start for you that you got
- 14:00Speaker 2: interested in that?
- 14:01Speaker 4: Well, So my road or my philanthropy with Alzheimer's and
- 14:07Speaker 4: dementia started really in twenty seventeen. So my dad, my grandfather,
- 14:11Speaker 4: actually passed away with vascular dementia and that was its
- 14:15Speaker 4: own journey in and of itself. And then in twenty seventeen,
- 14:20Speaker 4: in the same week, I was pregnant with my youngest son,
- 14:25Speaker 4: who was diagnosed with multiple congenital heart defects and without
- 14:29Speaker 4: immediate intervention, he would not survive. And in that same week,
- 14:33Speaker 4: my dad was diagnosed with Picks disease, which is a
- 14:35Speaker 4: rare and aggressive form of dementia for which there is
- 14:37Speaker 4: no cure. So I knew I was going to lose
- 14:39Speaker 4: my dad, and I knew there was a chance that
- 14:42Speaker 4: I could also lose my son, A big chance.
- 14:44Speaker 2: Wow.
- 14:44Speaker 4: And yeah, So talk about those moments, those markers in
- 14:48Speaker 4: your life that it's like BC, you know, like before Christ,
- 14:51Speaker 4: like right before that that forever will mark my life.
- 14:56Speaker 4: It changed me on such a cellular level, and there's
- 15:00Speaker 4: been a lot of trauma and pain and heartache and
- 15:03Speaker 4: loss and grief. And also I always say this because really,
- 15:08Speaker 4: what other choice do we have if we want to
- 15:10Speaker 4: live a happy, joyful, full life. I want to get
- 15:13Speaker 4: to the end of my life and be like I
- 15:15Speaker 4: squeezed every ounce I could out of this. I can't
- 15:20Speaker 4: do that if I'm only resting inside of the sad
- 15:26Speaker 4: or the victimization. It's so easy for us to be
- 15:28Speaker 4: like why us, why us? Why us? Well, why not us?
- 15:32Speaker 4: It happens to people every day, hard, sad, bad things,
- 15:37Speaker 4: So why not you as well? Right? So what do
- 15:40Speaker 4: we do with that? What do we do? I will say, like,
- 15:43Speaker 4: you know, sometimes life gives you a hand, like a
- 15:46Speaker 4: pile of crap in your hand and you're looking at
- 15:48Speaker 4: it and you're like, this is steamy, it's steams, it's horrible,
- 15:53Speaker 4: and what am I going to do with this? Well?
- 15:55Speaker 4: How do we spin that into gold? Right? So I
- 15:59Speaker 4: got involved with our Alzheimer's Association at first as a
- 16:02Speaker 4: spokesperson speaking at events. I led the walk to in
- 16:05Speaker 4: Alzheimer's in Los Angeles for many years. Kicked off that
- 16:08Speaker 4: event and then the dance party specifically was started by
- 16:14Speaker 4: Kimberly Williams Paisley. Her sister, Ashley Williams and I have
- 16:18Speaker 4: been friends since our twenties. We grew up in acting
- 16:20Speaker 4: class together. And Kimberly was ready to hand the party over.
- 16:24Speaker 4: So she handed it over to obviously her sister Ashley,
- 16:28Speaker 4: and Ashley needed a partner and so they you know,
- 16:33Speaker 4: I think it was her brother Jay because there's three
- 16:35Speaker 4: of them. Jay suggested, what about Niki? Why don't you
- 16:37Speaker 4: ask NICKI? So that's how I got involved with the dance.
- 16:41Speaker 4: And this year we just had our event, the Halloween Addition,
- 16:46Speaker 4: and we raised in that night and we're still we
- 16:48Speaker 4: have another couple weeks of fundraising. It's still open. We
- 16:51Speaker 4: raised two hundred and fifty thousand dollars, which is incredible,
- 16:55Speaker 4: and it all goes towards research grants. So really we're
- 16:59Speaker 4: focused on prevention. We now know because of the money
- 17:02Speaker 4: we have put into research in terms of prevention, we
- 17:06Speaker 4: now know we can prevent this disease. We have no cure,
- 17:10Speaker 4: but we know we can prevent it, and we have
- 17:12Speaker 4: ways in which we can prevent that. So this is
- 17:14Speaker 4: what we're not. I always say, nobody's coming to save you.
- 17:18Speaker 4: Now you have got to save yourself. Put your pants on,
- 17:23Speaker 4: get your shoes on. As you get put your shoes,
- 17:26Speaker 4: shoes on, get out there and do something about it,
- 17:29Speaker 4: because nobody's coming to save you. And then from mind,
- 17:32Speaker 4: what matters my friend who's become a dear friend? Elizabeth Humphries.
- 17:38Speaker 4: She this was a podcast that originally exitited isisted years ago.
- 17:42Speaker 4: She was caregiving for her mother who had Alzheimer's. She
- 17:46Speaker 4: was really just looking to talk to people to get
- 17:48Speaker 4: answers on how do you navigate this.
- 17:51Speaker 3: Her wildly unexpected and be a.
- 17:53Speaker 4: Caregiver young kids at home, she was taking care of
- 17:57Speaker 4: her mom, like how do you do this? And she
- 17:59Speaker 4: put it on pause because she had to take care
- 18:02Speaker 4: of her mom. And her mother passed away, not this
- 18:06Speaker 4: past September, but the september before that, And I had
- 18:10Speaker 4: a dream that we brought the podcast back, but it
- 18:13Speaker 4: was the two of us and we just focused on
- 18:16Speaker 4: caregiving and not just in the space of Alzheimer's and dementia,
- 18:20Speaker 4: because what I've noticed is we're all caregivers.
- 18:23Speaker 3: In some way.
- 18:24Speaker 4: Yes, as a nurse, for example, what I've watched these
- 18:27Speaker 4: nurses do at Children's Hospital Los Angeles, and it makes
- 18:30Speaker 4: me emotional to think about they take care of our
- 18:33Speaker 4: children all day long. They save their lives. Literally, they
- 18:39Speaker 4: cradle these day, are their.
- 18:41Speaker 3: Hair, and when you cannot be there or when you're there,
- 18:44Speaker 3: and like even when you're their bedside, they're the taking
- 18:49Speaker 3: giving the meds, soothing them, doing all the things.
- 18:52Speaker 4: And they're going from room to room to room to room,
- 18:54Speaker 4: caregiving all day long, and then they have to go home, right,
- 18:57Speaker 4: and then they have to give care to their kids
- 19:00Speaker 4: and their husband and their friends and their community. How
- 19:03Speaker 4: are we doing this? Women? How are we doing this?
- 19:07Speaker 3: So with each other and with people like you, it's
- 19:10Speaker 3: really important because today when I was listening to you
- 19:13Speaker 3: that you really pointed out that the suck is going
- 19:16Speaker 3: to come. Embrace it, right, So you actually say something
- 19:21Speaker 3: and I think it's you that said, you know, you
- 19:23Speaker 3: never really heal, you recover, yes, And I thought, oh
- 19:26Speaker 3: my god, because what we've been dealing with our parents
- 19:29Speaker 3: this year. I've basically been running without any disrespect to
- 19:33Speaker 3: my parents and adult day care. Sometimes I'll take my
- 19:36Speaker 3: mom somewhere and she comes out and we're in the
- 19:38Speaker 3: parking lot and she goes, now what I do? And
- 19:41Speaker 3: I was like, you get in the car. And so
- 19:43Speaker 3: it comes and goes. And so what you're bringing light
- 19:46Speaker 3: to is amazing because it can you know, like MS
- 19:49Speaker 3: we work on a cure, and Alzheimer's were working on
- 19:52Speaker 3: a cure. So I really wanted to talk about your
- 19:54Speaker 3: podcast because the caregivers and want to help spread the
- 19:57Speaker 3: word about it, because the care givers need to know
- 20:02Speaker 3: that they're not.
- 20:03Speaker 4: Alone, They're not alone. Yes, it's called Mind What Matters. Everybody,
- 20:06Speaker 4: Please check it out. Thank you for thank you for
- 20:09Speaker 4: bringing attention to it, because it really is a labor
- 20:13Speaker 4: of love. And you know, for me and Liz, I mean,
- 20:16Speaker 4: I get anywhere between one and two calls.
- 20:18Speaker 3: A week that this is happening.
- 20:21Speaker 4: A lot of people I don't even know, like whether
- 20:23Speaker 4: it's children's hospital. They know what I've gone through with
- 20:27Speaker 4: my kid, they know I'm involved. They reach out via
- 20:29Speaker 4: Instagram my child needs a liver transplant. I don't know
- 20:33Speaker 4: where to go. How do I get into the hospital.
- 20:36Speaker 4: I got you, what's your cell phone number? Let me
- 20:38Speaker 4: take care of this for you or my dad. I
- 20:41Speaker 4: think was just diagnosed with Alzheimer's, but I'm not sure,
- 20:45Speaker 4: Like what's going on? Can you talk me through this
- 20:47Speaker 4: or both of us? And so this podcast is really
- 20:52Speaker 4: a way for us to talk about all of that
- 20:56Speaker 4: and so much more, but especially caregiving.
- 20:58Speaker 2: Yeah, critic quite is so.
- 20:59Speaker 1: Bad, and especially as our parents are living longer, it's
- 21:03Speaker 1: becoming more of an issue. And you just learned things
- 21:06Speaker 1: that you don't intuitively understand until someone says to you, well,
- 21:10Speaker 1: my parent repeats the same story over and over and
- 21:14Speaker 1: over again, or tells me something three times in an hour,
- 21:17Speaker 1: and initially your reaction is to correct that person, and
- 21:21Speaker 1: instead we're told, don't correct that person because that makes
- 21:25Speaker 1: them think, well, what's wrong? Totally yeah, and so, but
- 21:27Speaker 1: you learned so much about how to be compassionate, because,
- 21:31Speaker 1: let's all face it, someday.
- 21:33Speaker 2: You may be sitting in that seat, you know what
- 21:34Speaker 2: I mean, fond exactly exactly.
- 21:39Speaker 4: So it's true, you know, with my dad, it's just
- 21:41Speaker 4: something I don't I innately knew how to do it.
- 21:44Speaker 4: I don't know if it's because I had a kid
- 21:45Speaker 4: that was very ill and for years and and so
- 21:50Speaker 4: caregiving was just something that I had to, Like, it
- 21:52Speaker 4: was like a crash course in it. Right, Oh, here's
- 21:54Speaker 4: this baby that just had open heart surgery that you
- 21:57Speaker 4: have to bring home from the hospital. And in that
- 21:58Speaker 4: first two years, we had three heart surgeries and it
- 22:01Speaker 4: was more hospital er visits than I can count. And
- 22:05Speaker 4: so when he said things like, you know, the sky
- 22:10Speaker 4: is purple, Yeah, Dad, that's the most beautiful purple sky
- 22:13Speaker 4: I've ever seen in my life, don't fight it, you know, like,
- 22:17Speaker 4: let the moments with them just be filled with joy and.
- 22:21Speaker 3: And you're too like you want to be like, that's
- 22:24Speaker 3: not right. It's just like you got to embrace it,
- 22:28Speaker 3: you do, because it is an uphill battle on that.
- 22:32Speaker 4: Yeah, Well with.
- 22:32Speaker 1: The children's hospital piece, so my son was in the
- 22:35Speaker 1: nick you So I was on bedrooms for two and
- 22:37Speaker 1: a half premature, he was premature, and so yeah, his
- 22:41Speaker 1: story is he was premature and so he was in
- 22:44Speaker 1: the nick you for like ten weeks and then he
- 22:46Speaker 1: had to have a surgery and all that, and then
- 22:48Speaker 1: later on in his life he had a bad accident
- 22:50Speaker 1: and had traumatic brain injury.
- 22:52Speaker 2: So like, how many lives does this kid have? And
- 22:54Speaker 2: he's still hanging in there and he's doing well. He does,
- 22:57Speaker 2: he does.
- 22:58Speaker 1: But yeah, it's hard to you know, have your child
- 23:02Speaker 1: going through now watching your parent is difficult.
- 23:04Speaker 2: But what was that like for you?
- 23:09Speaker 1: That's a lot to know your child is get born
- 23:12Speaker 1: in that situation and that you're going to face that immediately.
- 23:14Speaker 1: And we knew once I went into early labor we
- 23:17Speaker 1: were facing that's right.
- 23:18Speaker 4: Yeah, I mean, you know it's brutal. It is so brutal,
- 23:23Speaker 4: and in fact, I don't know if you experienced this,
- 23:26Speaker 4: but you know, for me, I had a moment earlier
- 23:30Speaker 4: this year, so it's been seven years been. It just
- 23:32Speaker 4: turned seven in September, So this year, seven years ago
- 23:37Speaker 4: he was born. And earlier this year, I went to
- 23:39Speaker 4: meet a friend for lunch, and I'm helping families to
- 23:42Speaker 4: learn how to give a mission moment at Children's Hospital
- 23:44Speaker 4: Los Angeles. People who want to, who want to share
- 23:47Speaker 4: their story, who want to like support the hospital. So
- 23:51Speaker 4: I'm helping them kind of give them a template first speech,
- 23:54Speaker 4: like this is kind of how it looks, and this
- 23:55Speaker 4: is what you can talk about and share and you know.
- 23:59Speaker 4: So I had to put a speech together as a
- 24:01Speaker 4: template with audio or with video and pictures. And so
- 24:05Speaker 4: because I talk about the first time leaving the hospital,
- 24:09Speaker 4: I needed to find that video. I'm sitting there in
- 24:12Speaker 4: the valet waiting for my car, and I finally get
- 24:15Speaker 4: to the video, and I'm thinking, like, how have I
- 24:17Speaker 4: not seen this video? I've watched the second time we
- 24:19Speaker 4: came home and the third time we came home. How
- 24:21Speaker 4: have I not seen this video? And I pull it
- 24:26Speaker 4: up and I'm watching and then I just my body
- 24:29Speaker 4: just starts shaking, like I just start shaking and tears
- 24:33Speaker 4: start coming up, and I'm like oh my gosh, if
- 24:35Speaker 4: I lose it waiting in this line, Ballet thinks he's
- 24:38Speaker 4: gonna get it, Like, that's wrong. My car needs to come,
- 24:42Speaker 4: and I needs to come. And I get in the
- 24:43Speaker 4: car and I just I sob so uncontrollably, it cannot breathe, sobbing.
- 24:50Speaker 4: It has taken me seven years for my body to go. Okay.
- 24:54Speaker 4: Now now you can begin to recover. Now it's okay.
- 24:59Speaker 4: It's safe to recover because for so many years, you know,
- 25:04Speaker 4: every time you got sick, it was an er visit,
- 25:06Speaker 4: every time something happened. Every you know, when you have
- 25:10Speaker 4: a kid that's gone through something like that, it gives
- 25:14Speaker 4: you PTSD. You have trauma from it. Your hypervigilant brain
- 25:18Speaker 4: goes into it drives the truck. And what that means
- 25:22Speaker 4: is it's driving all the time, rs it's not giving
- 25:27Speaker 4: you the breaks that you need. So last year I
- 25:30Speaker 4: went into really intense trauma therapy and I was able
- 25:35Speaker 4: to take that part of my brain and not make
- 25:38Speaker 4: it go away. Because we are who we are, and
- 25:41Speaker 4: I think so many of us sometimes don't succeed in
- 25:45Speaker 4: recovery in therapy because we're trying to get rid of
- 25:49Speaker 4: these pieces of us that don't feel good, and instead
- 25:52Speaker 4: of that, we need to get close to them and
- 25:54Speaker 4: get to know them and embrace them. That hyper vigilant
- 25:57Speaker 4: part of who I am saved my son's life.
- 26:00Speaker 5: Yeah.
- 26:00Speaker 4: It also saved my grandfather when he collapsed and we
- 26:04Speaker 4: didn't know what was going on and I sprung into action.
- 26:06Speaker 4: It saved my grandmother after she had two double strokes
- 26:09Speaker 4: on Christmas Day. It took care of my dad. That
- 26:13Speaker 4: part of my brain. I need that.
- 26:15Speaker 2: Yeh.
- 26:15Speaker 4: She just doesn't need to drive the car all the
- 26:17Speaker 4: time to drive this off a cliff.
- 26:20Speaker 2: Yeah, you know.
- 26:21Speaker 4: So it was about really taking her, putting her in
- 26:24Speaker 4: the back seat. And because I was able to do that,
- 26:27Speaker 4: I was able to.
- 26:28Speaker 2: Have that moment.
- 26:29Speaker 4: And now I'm back in traumatherapy really working on that
- 26:35Speaker 4: time within. I don't know how I did it.
- 26:37Speaker 1: That's what our doctor told me at one point, because
- 26:40Speaker 1: I was going through all that with Jared, and finally
- 26:42Speaker 1: she said, take a break, take a breath, Monica. She said,
- 26:45Speaker 1: he'll be fine. You'll be scarred for life, but he'll
- 26:48Speaker 1: be fine.
- 26:50Speaker 3: Thirteen year old Dillar, She'll be fine, but I'll be
- 26:53Speaker 3: scarred for life.
- 26:53Speaker 1: We have some moms who have some questions for you.
- 26:57Speaker 1: We have our Zoomer mom, So welcome Zooper moms. Welcome
- 27:01Speaker 1: to the Mom's Blood.
- 27:05Speaker 2: Hi.
- 27:06Speaker 1: Well, ladies, this is a very special treat, and it's
- 27:09Speaker 1: a special treat for you because you each get to
- 27:12Speaker 1: ask two questions. It's not usual that we do this,
- 27:16Speaker 1: so and don't you know, two very well thought out
- 27:20Speaker 1: questions because we only have a few minutes, So let's
- 27:24Speaker 1: start with Jan. Jan, tell us a little bit about yourself,
- 27:27Speaker 1: and what are your questions for Nicky?
- 27:31Speaker 2: You're on mute. You're on mute, Jan, She's like.
- 27:35Speaker 3: Someone push a button. Someone push a button.
- 27:38Speaker 4: I understand that.
- 27:40Speaker 3: No, there we go there, yeah, I go all right.
- 27:45Speaker 5: Sorry about that, Nikki.
- 27:47Speaker 4: Oh it's okay.
- 27:47Speaker 5: Jan. I'm really glad to meet you.
- 27:51Speaker 6: I had a limousine service here in Dallas for thirty years,
- 27:56Speaker 6: and I also sang with Patsy Kline's original band.
- 28:00Speaker 5: Many years, so I'm singer.
- 28:02Speaker 6: And I also had my own service. But I was
- 28:06Speaker 6: so happy to hear all this about the Alzheimer's. I
- 28:09Speaker 6: took care of my mother when she had Alzheimer's for
- 28:13Speaker 6: I guess three and a half years, and now I
- 28:14Speaker 6: have an autistic godson that I care for and it
- 28:18Speaker 6: lives with me full time.
- 28:19Speaker 4: Bless you. Thank you for doing that.
- 28:21Speaker 5: You're very welcome.
- 28:22Speaker 6: But I followed you for many years and I have
- 28:25Speaker 6: a girlfriend named Jenny Nolan who is addicted to Hallmark
- 28:31Speaker 6: on twenty four seven. She never changes it. And I
- 28:35Speaker 6: mean we took two trips to Hawaii last year and
- 28:38Speaker 6: it's on twenty four seves.
- 28:42Speaker 5: You go to Hawaii and all you have is Hallmark on.
- 28:45Speaker 5: It's just crazy. She's so as addicted to it.
- 28:48Speaker 4: Oh, thank you.
- 28:49Speaker 6: I'll ask you, first of all, thank you for being
- 28:53Speaker 6: on the show today. And I want to ask you
- 28:56Speaker 6: about the Hallmark Christmas movie, Our Holiday Story.
- 29:00Speaker 5: Can you tell us something about.
- 29:03Speaker 4: Yes, well I can tell you. You know my co star
- 29:06Speaker 4: Warren Christy, who's a phenomenal actor and so wonderful to
- 29:10Speaker 4: work with, and it's such an incredible cast on this one.
- 29:16Speaker 4: And you know the thing is my character in Warren's character,
- 29:20Speaker 4: you meet us in the beginning of the movie and
- 29:22Speaker 4: we're in twenty twenty four. You know, we're aged up
- 29:26Speaker 4: a little bit, and he has a daughter in her
- 29:30Speaker 4: twenties and her boyfriend or the person that she's currently
- 29:37Speaker 4: dating shows up at the house and he unfortunately ask
- 29:43Speaker 4: us about our love story and how we found each other.
- 29:45Speaker 4: And the movie is about us telling that story and
- 29:47Speaker 4: going back in time and seeing it happen in real life.
- 29:50Speaker 4: And while this youngen is dealing with, like, well, his
- 29:54Speaker 4: own love story workout right. So that's kind of the
- 29:57Speaker 4: fun in it is that we go back and worth
- 30:00Speaker 4: in time. And you know, what I was saying earlier
- 30:04Speaker 4: is just some if people are meant to be and
- 30:06Speaker 4: if something is meant to happen, you know, there's nothing
- 30:10Speaker 4: we can do to ruin that. There's nothing that we
- 30:13Speaker 4: can do to make that not happen, right, And I
- 30:16Speaker 4: have to, by the way, I have to remind myself
- 30:18Speaker 4: of this all the time. I think the anxiety of youth,
- 30:20Speaker 4: so much of that is is having anxiety that things
- 30:23Speaker 4: are not going to work out that we wish or
- 30:25Speaker 4: that we dream. And my grandmother, my Nana, always used
- 30:29Speaker 4: to say when something didn't happen, she would say, well, honey,
- 30:34Speaker 4: it just means that it's either not meant to happen,
- 30:37Speaker 4: man's rejection is God's protection, or it's not meant to
- 30:40Speaker 4: happen now, not not today exactly. So it's you know,
- 30:45Speaker 4: it's a story that reminds us all of that. Yeah,
- 30:48Speaker 4: that's great.
- 30:49Speaker 1: You know you just mentioned your grandmother, and your grandmother
- 30:52Speaker 1: was a very important part of your.
- 30:53Speaker 3: Whole career from what so I wouldn't have different?
- 30:57Speaker 2: Yeah, isn't that?
- 30:58Speaker 1: I mean, she tell just a little bit about so
- 31:01Speaker 1: she she moved you out here to LA to help
- 31:04Speaker 1: you with your career.
- 31:05Speaker 4: Well technically like I was going to do it with
- 31:07Speaker 4: her without anyone I was, so they figured they might
- 31:13Speaker 4: as well send an adult adult Like people ask me
- 31:15Speaker 4: all the time, like would you put your kids in
- 31:17Speaker 4: this like this industry? The answer is like, I would
- 31:20Speaker 4: never put my kid in this industry, But if they
- 31:23Speaker 4: were the kid that I was, which was come hell
- 31:26Speaker 4: or high water, I was doing this. If I had
- 31:29Speaker 4: to run away from home and do this, I was
- 31:31Speaker 4: going to do I wanted. I started at three, that
- 31:35Speaker 4: was all I wanted to do. And if that was
- 31:38Speaker 4: my kid, I would support them and give them the
- 31:40Speaker 4: tools and do whatever. And that's what my grandmother did.
- 31:43Speaker 4: Dance lessons, vocal lessons, you know, whatever, competition. She bought
- 31:47Speaker 4: my dresses for the competitions or for my talent competition.
- 31:51Speaker 4: She bought my outfits and she was.
- 31:53Speaker 3: Like, kid, I'm all in behind you.
- 31:56Speaker 4: I won a talent competition that brought me to LA
- 32:00Speaker 4: and I was eleven at the time, and there was
- 32:03Speaker 4: a bunch of agents that wanted to sign me and
- 32:07Speaker 4: wanted us to move to LA and my mom was like,
- 32:09Speaker 4: I'm my daughter or not moving to LA.
- 32:10Speaker 3: I don't tell you about you and in her Georgia exit.
- 32:14Speaker 4: My grandmother kind of sidled up to one of the
- 32:17Speaker 4: agents and said, well, what can she do where we live?
- 32:21Speaker 4: And one of the agents said, there's going to be
- 32:23Speaker 4: auditions for the new Mickey Mouse Club. They're going to
- 32:25Speaker 4: be casting new members. If you have a local agent,
- 32:29Speaker 4: tell them to look out for that. And sure enough,
- 32:33Speaker 4: a year from then, Yeah, I was twelve years old,
- 32:35Speaker 4: got my first audition. But all the reason I have
- 32:38Speaker 4: a career and my biggest cheerleader in the world is
- 32:41Speaker 4: my grandmother.
- 32:42Speaker 1: So when you're up there giving give me your speech
- 32:44Speaker 1: accepting your Emmy awards, I.
- 32:46Speaker 3: Know for her, Yeah, I guess that. I mean, I
- 32:50Speaker 3: know we have another question, and I guess the support
- 32:52Speaker 3: I should be giving my daughter, Georgia is moving to LA.
- 32:55Speaker 3: In February, I had to kindly remind her she doesn't
- 32:58Speaker 3: have a job, but.
- 32:59Speaker 5: Go for it.
- 33:01Speaker 1: Yeah. Yeah, well she said, she was like, you're just
- 33:04Speaker 1: a buyer. Yeah, she expects to doesn't have a job
- 33:07Speaker 1: or anything.
- 33:07Speaker 3: I don't think I'll find that for that, but yeah,
- 33:09Speaker 3: I like that.
- 33:11Speaker 1: Angel, Welcome to the Mom's Club. Tell us a little
- 33:14Speaker 1: bit about yourself and do you have a question?
- 33:17Speaker 4: Yes, I do.
- 33:18Speaker 7: Thank you so very much, and I'd like to thank
- 33:21Speaker 7: your guests today for such an incredible story and being
- 33:25Speaker 7: so transparent. My background is in radio as well as television,
- 33:29Speaker 7: among some other things. But I do have a question
- 33:31Speaker 7: for you. Most people look at success or they want
- 33:33Speaker 7: to be on television, or they want to be in
- 33:36Speaker 7: the lights and whatnot. But is there a specific lesson
- 33:39Speaker 7: you've learned through your challenges with your family that has
- 33:43Speaker 7: shaped your view on success?
- 33:46Speaker 3: Yes, got good question, Angel, I mean.
- 33:51Speaker 4: Way to bring it, bringing the ps you could even
- 33:55Speaker 4: look on the Instagram and says small talk survivor. Because
- 33:58Speaker 4: I do not know how to do I'll talk like
- 34:01Speaker 4: I just like I'm the person that's like who invited
- 34:03Speaker 4: this girl that wants to talk about grief and stuff
- 34:06Speaker 4: for the party. I love this question and the reason
- 34:10Speaker 4: I love it is it's because I struggled so much. Right,
- 34:15Speaker 4: My mother and I had a very complicated relationship and
- 34:18Speaker 4: we now have a beautiful relationship that we've worked so
- 34:21Speaker 4: hard for. But she was twenty one when she had me,
- 34:23Speaker 4: and you know, I chased I wanted her love so deeply,
- 34:29Speaker 4: and I just spent my childhood not getting that right.
- 34:32Speaker 4: And so when you're a kid that doesn't get the
- 34:35Speaker 4: love that she really needs, then you get into an
- 34:38Speaker 4: industry and you're chasing that love from the people in
- 34:42Speaker 4: an istry. You're constantly chasing love and acceptance and validation
- 34:48Speaker 4: through external sources. And you know where I'm going with this.
- 34:53Speaker 4: So I think as a society, it's not even just
- 34:56Speaker 4: about the entertainment business. I look at my son, who's
- 34:58Speaker 4: not in the entertainment business, who's eleven, who's constantly seeking
- 35:02Speaker 4: his self worth on the outside, and I'm constantly reminding
- 35:05Speaker 4: him that is an internal job. You will if you
- 35:09Speaker 4: are trying to get that outside of yourself, you will
- 35:12Speaker 4: be empty and you will be chasing that your entire life,
- 35:15Speaker 4: and you will never find satisfaction. And so I think
- 35:20Speaker 4: it's something that's relatable to everybody. My idea of success now?
- 35:26Speaker 4: Is am I a safe person? Am I a safe
- 35:30Speaker 4: person for myself? Am I a safe space for other people?
- 35:34Speaker 4: Am I a person that people can depend on? Am
- 35:37Speaker 4: I a person that people can come to and say,
- 35:39Speaker 4: this is what I'm going through? Can you help hold
- 35:42Speaker 4: this for me? And So my whole definition of what
- 35:47Speaker 4: success means it is not financial. It is not my resume,
- 35:51Speaker 4: It is not the things I've accomplished in terms of
- 35:54Speaker 4: awards or whatever. That is not real, right, And while
- 35:59Speaker 4: I love it, and while it matters because we have
- 36:02Speaker 4: to pay bills and health insurance and all of that,
- 36:04Speaker 4: So it's legit life and death in terms of being
- 36:07Speaker 4: able to support our families, true, but it does not
- 36:11Speaker 4: determine our worth. So yeah, it's changed a lot.
- 36:15Speaker 3: I love that you've worked on your legacy.
- 36:18Speaker 2: So I love this, I love it. I love it.
- 36:21Speaker 2: You know who I'm going to ride in for president?
- 36:23Speaker 2: From my ballance? I think I mean an inspiring person.
- 36:28Speaker 3: I do you think she wants the job?
- 36:29Speaker 2: I know, I know, but yes, you are. You are
- 36:34Speaker 2: because you're just so You're a problem solver, which I
- 36:37Speaker 2: love solving problems, and I think that's just amazing. I
- 36:39Speaker 2: actually may enjoy it.
- 36:41Speaker 3: She's also a judge. You do know this. She's judging
- 36:43Speaker 3: mister Christmas, which I need to know what the qualities
- 36:47Speaker 3: are to be mister Christmas.
- 36:50Speaker 2: What is that?
- 36:51Speaker 4: Angel? I don't know if you've heard of this show.
- 36:53Speaker 4: It's called Finding Mister Christmas. It's on Hallmark Streaming and
- 36:59Speaker 4: my dear, dear and Jonathan Bennett he hosted with Melissa Peterman.
- 37:02Speaker 4: And when Jonathan texted me and said, I need you
- 37:06Speaker 4: to come and judge the finale and I need you
- 37:08Speaker 4: to be a part of the finale. And I was like,
- 37:09Speaker 4: what was that? What am I doing? He's like, don't
- 37:11Speaker 4: worry about it. I tell you when you get here,
- 37:12Speaker 4: just say yes, just say yes. I got on a plane,
- 37:16Speaker 4: I showed up to set. He gives me this script
- 37:19Speaker 4: and I read it. I'm reading it. I'm reading and
- 37:21Speaker 4: I'm seeing that I'm doing the climax resolution scene with
- 37:25Speaker 4: the boys. So there's the remaining contestants and I realize
- 37:30Speaker 4: I have to kiss every single.
- 37:37Speaker 3: I was like, I have to ask her, what is.
- 37:40Speaker 2: Wow?
- 37:41Speaker 4: You tell me to kiss all of them? And he goes,
- 37:44Speaker 4: You're welcome, You're welcome anyway. It's more than that. It's
- 37:48Speaker 4: really it's so fun and.
- 37:50Speaker 3: So they have to be a good kiss there. That's
- 37:51Speaker 3: one of the qualities.
- 37:52Speaker 4: Part of the qualities is really you know, being able
- 37:55Speaker 4: to act in the scenes. But what they're really looking
- 37:58Speaker 4: for is like at Hallmark, and I think anybody who
- 38:01Speaker 4: gets to know the talent, it's so funny. We'll have
- 38:03Speaker 4: new executives come in, new people come in in terms
- 38:05Speaker 4: of leadership, and they come in with this like these
- 38:09Speaker 4: ideas right of like well, we're going to do this,
- 38:12Speaker 4: and we're going to do that, and like you know,
- 38:14Speaker 4: I have these people have been here forever and blah
- 38:16Speaker 4: blah blah blah, and they're not really family, you know,
- 38:19Speaker 4: they're not really they can't be like, I love each
- 38:21Speaker 4: other as much as they do. And then they are
- 38:24Speaker 4: with us for like a week and they go, oh wow,
- 38:27Speaker 4: everybody actually really does love each other. They are a
- 38:30Speaker 4: family like and so then their hearts are changed inside
- 38:35Speaker 4: of that, right because they're like, I love being a
- 38:37Speaker 4: part of this family, I mean. And so it really
- 38:41Speaker 4: is about like the show itself and Jonathan calling on
- 38:44Speaker 4: the family to come in and you have to kind
- 38:48Speaker 4: of embody. It's a feeling that you have to have
- 38:53Speaker 4: when when you work for Hallmark as an actor, it's
- 38:56Speaker 4: not just what you're doing on the screen, it's how
- 38:57Speaker 4: you live at your life and how you're showing up
- 39:00Speaker 4: up big open hearts, love, really appreciating the audience and
- 39:06Speaker 4: getting it, getting what we do, what we get to
- 39:09Speaker 4: do for other people.
- 39:11Speaker 3: Well, no cast, did I know? And I think you
- 39:14Speaker 3: do this with the Hallmark chan y'all did that tour
- 39:17Speaker 3: and at the East Coast and you went to Chop
- 39:20Speaker 3: We did. And Chop is a very special place for
- 39:23Speaker 3: those you know, Children's Hospital of Philadelphia is one of
- 39:26Speaker 3: the best in the world. Yes, And so to do
- 39:29Speaker 3: that and get to live that and work that and
- 39:32Speaker 3: spread that, I can't say enough about the people you
- 39:35Speaker 3: work with.
- 39:35Speaker 4: Thank you. Yeah. We got to literally start in Washington,
- 39:39Speaker 4: d C. It was a grain child of Annie Howell.
- 39:42Speaker 4: I have to give her a shout out and Shane
- 39:43Speaker 4: Ray Julian who put together this entire thing. It was massive,
- 39:47Speaker 4: it was huge. I'm blown away by what they put together.
- 39:51Speaker 4: And we started Washington, d C. And did Christmas rallies
- 39:55Speaker 4: all yep and stopping at Chop along the way, which
- 39:58Speaker 4: was something that I I had really wanted to do
- 40:01Speaker 4: when they started.
- 40:02Speaker 3: Dreaming, You're a puddle through the whole tour that.
- 40:05Speaker 4: Day, like you got say, hug so many mothers and
- 40:07Speaker 4: that's the thing, it's like I've been that mother that
- 40:11Speaker 4: you know. Of course, all the focus needs to be
- 40:13Speaker 4: on the children, and of course all the resources and support,
- 40:16Speaker 4: and there needs to be a light that is shown
- 40:19Speaker 4: on the doctors and nurses and stuff and what they're
- 40:21Speaker 4: the amazing things they're doing at chop and also the
- 40:25Speaker 4: people who are forgotten inside of it, right are the
- 40:28Speaker 4: mothers that are at bedside day in and day out,
- 40:30Speaker 4: and they are terrified fired. I said, that's what I say,
- 40:34Speaker 4: that bone tired.
- 40:36Speaker 3: That they get to see you, but they may not
- 40:38Speaker 3: be able to register that getting to meet you because
- 40:41Speaker 3: of the exhaustion mentally, physically.
- 40:43Speaker 2: Well, it is so true.
- 40:45Speaker 1: That's another the caregivers because yeah, being the mom okay,
- 40:50Speaker 1: zoomer moms, Yes, you each get one rapid fire question,
- 40:55Speaker 1: So like what's your favorite call and whatever?
- 40:56Speaker 2: Okay, jan question for Nikki.
- 40:59Speaker 5: Nikki, I want to know about Mine What Matters?
- 41:02Speaker 4: Oh great, okay, I.
- 41:04Speaker 5: Hate to watch your podcast, thanks so much.
- 41:07Speaker 4: Well, Mine What Matters nonprofit, which the podcast is now
- 41:11Speaker 4: an extension of it's a nonprofit organization where we give
- 41:14Speaker 4: financial grants to caregivers of loved ones with neurodegenerative illnesses.
- 41:19Speaker 4: So that's Alzheimer's, dementia, als Parkinson's, any newer degenerative illness.
- 41:25Speaker 4: And so it's a way for us to go because
- 41:30Speaker 4: caregivers sometimes need help, need help now, So what can
- 41:33Speaker 4: we do right? And Liz dreamed up this idea. She
- 41:38Speaker 4: founded the organization of like literally putting money in the
- 41:41Speaker 4: pockets of caregivers so that they can go to their
- 41:43Speaker 4: doctor's appointment, they can bring somebody in for the day,
- 41:47Speaker 4: for the week and say, can you help me with
- 41:49Speaker 4: my mom or my dad this week? Because I got
- 41:52Speaker 4: to go get my heart checked. I haven't had a
- 41:53Speaker 4: physical in two years. I need to get my hair
- 41:57Speaker 4: done because I haven't had my hair done, like whatever
- 42:00Speaker 4: it is. There was one woman that we were able
- 42:01Speaker 4: to give a care grant to. She has alopecia, and
- 42:05Speaker 4: she was able. Her dream was to compete in a
- 42:08Speaker 4: pageant where the women had alopecia. And she went and
- 42:13Speaker 4: she did it, and she put her dress on and
- 42:16Speaker 4: man did she look amazing. And because of the care grant,
- 42:21Speaker 4: she was able to go and do this thing that
- 42:24Speaker 4: had been a dream of hers for so many years.
- 42:27Speaker 4: Was just to take back and show the world like, yeah,
- 42:30Speaker 4: I might have this thing, but look how beautiful and
- 42:33Speaker 4: strong and courageous and brave I am. And it allowed
- 42:36Speaker 4: her to be able to go back to return to
- 42:38Speaker 4: caregiving with something in her motor. She did something for herself.
- 42:43Speaker 4: So that is the impact of mind. What matters nonprofit
- 42:47Speaker 4: and what?
- 42:47Speaker 5: Well, thanks so much for your inspiration.
- 42:51Speaker 2: Yeah that was I.
- 42:52Speaker 5: Would love to talk about beets, but that she's from Dallas.
- 42:57Speaker 3: She's from Dallas, hear. Yeah, anyway, go ahead.
- 43:00Speaker 2: No quick question.
- 43:01Speaker 7: Okay, I've got like a thousand questions. It has to
- 43:04Speaker 7: be rapid fire. Yes, I just want to know what
- 43:07Speaker 7: was your favorite role you ever played?
- 43:09Speaker 3: And what great questions I would have to say.
- 43:13Speaker 4: Lacey Hamilton on Awkward, I had the just the dream
- 43:17Speaker 4: of playing her for almost six years of my life,
- 43:20Speaker 4: and she was a totally ridiculous human being. I mean
- 43:24Speaker 4: I had, like, I like this contraption that made me
- 43:28Speaker 4: look like I had giant breast and I wore this
- 43:31Speaker 4: tightest little outfits and heels, and you know, her whole
- 43:34Speaker 4: story was that she had this. She's the most popular
- 43:37Speaker 4: girl in high school and had a fall from grace
- 43:39Speaker 4: when she was sixteen and got pregnant, and so her
- 43:43Speaker 4: daughter and her are so close in age, and she's
- 43:47Speaker 4: trying to live her life vicariously through her young daughter
- 43:50Speaker 4: who was so different from her and who was no
- 43:52Speaker 4: interest in being popular or any.
- 43:55Speaker 3: Of the things that she was terrifying.
- 43:56Speaker 4: And so it's a comedy, but it's also Heartfeltlton Lauren
- 44:01Speaker 4: Uneric created it, and she just like, she just created
- 44:05Speaker 4: something so special and that role for me, will go
- 44:08Speaker 4: down in history is being my favorite. That's far.
- 44:10Speaker 3: Yeah, yeah, I mean.
- 44:13Speaker 2: This is so great.
- 44:15Speaker 1: You're you're truly, as we say on the Mom's Club
- 44:18Speaker 1: low amazing, not just amazing, the word extraordinary I would
- 44:22Speaker 1: put on you. You're I mean all the things you
- 44:24Speaker 1: do and you're so talented and so giving and so
- 44:28Speaker 1: I mean it's you.
- 44:30Speaker 3: You glow girl. You blow, You really do, and I
- 44:33Speaker 3: know you're exhausted at you glow and you know all
- 44:36Speaker 3: the stuff that you have going on. You remind me
- 44:38Speaker 3: of my friend Lacey we had.
- 44:41Speaker 2: On the show.
- 44:41Speaker 3: She she has a clever podcast called Every Widow Thing,
- 44:45Speaker 3: and it's less deep less dark, less often and you
- 44:49Speaker 3: you know what I mean because you teach that through
- 44:51Speaker 3: your podcast as well, because these things are going to come.
- 44:55Speaker 4: Yeah, So we have to learn how to find joy
- 44:59Speaker 4: and cell great even when we're in the valley. We
- 45:02Speaker 4: tell ourselves all the time, well I'll do that trip
- 45:05Speaker 4: when I will go and do this thing when I
- 45:09Speaker 4: will do And there might not be a when. That
- 45:12Speaker 4: is what I've learned, because you're just there might be
- 45:15Speaker 4: another hard thing. And the more that we can learn
- 45:18Speaker 4: to find be comfortable and the uncomfortable, the more that
- 45:21Speaker 4: we can learn that we can celebrate and find joy
- 45:23Speaker 4: and find moments of happiness inside the valley, Like that
- 45:28Speaker 4: is the full life. That is what we're seeking. That's
- 45:31Speaker 4: what we're wanting and hungry for. And we can do it.
- 45:34Speaker 3: Say yes, and your dad would want you to do it.
- 45:36Speaker 4: Yeah, Well he was the one, like I was coming
- 45:38Speaker 4: out of my first year of grief with him and
- 45:42Speaker 4: I after that first year, that first year anniversary, something
- 45:47Speaker 4: horrific happened to a really dear friend and she lost
- 45:49Speaker 4: her son and we had the funeral services on the
- 45:53Speaker 4: first anniversary my dad's passing, and I have never seen
- 45:59Speaker 4: that was the the most horrific thing I've ever witnessed
- 46:04Speaker 4: in my life. And I went and crawled in bed
- 46:06Speaker 4: and I didn't get out, and my dad came to
- 46:08Speaker 4: me in a dream and he said, baby girl, it
- 46:10Speaker 4: is time for you to get out of bed. And
- 46:12Speaker 4: if this can't wake you up and teach you that
- 46:16Speaker 4: you got to celebrate and find the joy and do
- 46:19Speaker 4: all the things, then nothing's going to So get up
- 46:22Speaker 4: and and and and so it was my dad who
- 46:25Speaker 4: did wake me up.
- 46:28Speaker 2: We're so happy to see so many.
- 46:30Speaker 3: People out there are as benefits.
- 46:32Speaker 2: Well, thank you.

- 46:39Speaker 1: can our listeners find you? On social media?

- 47:53Speaker 4: It also has magnesium in it. I just want to say,
- 47:55Speaker 4: and you could do your own research, but magnesium is
- 47:58Speaker 4: really really really good for women.
- 48:01Speaker 2: Very yes, yeah, that's going to be another show I
- 48:03Speaker 2: think about all of that.
