- 1:41Speaker 4: Was the more flooding. Uh, and you're at least in
- 1:46Speaker 4: the Kanaw Valley or at least Willoman know it's not
- 1:48Speaker 4: the kanav Valley. But on the turnpike was the disruption
- 1:51Speaker 4: and travel. We had people that were trapped on the
- 1:54Speaker 4: turnpike upwards of seven or eight hours yesterday. And uh,
- 1:59Speaker 4: we'll talk talk a little bit about that on the
- 2:01Speaker 4: local show, but so we'll primarily get into that to
- 2:03Speaker 4: actually talk to some people that were trapped on the
- 2:06Speaker 4: Turnpike for seven or eight hours on that Metro News Midday.
- 2:09Speaker 4: Coming up on this show today we have, of course,
- 2:13Speaker 4: it is Friday, which means Angie gilden Water from the

- 2:32Speaker 5: How are you?
- 2:33Speaker 4: I am doing fine? Amy, of course is a native Charlestonian.
- 2:37Speaker 4: And I've had actually guest hosted for me a couple
- 2:40Speaker 4: of a year or so ago, two years something like that.
- 2:44Speaker 4: Yeah you did? Did you came in on a Friday?
- 2:47Speaker 4: I did, Yes, And then I had you on Metro
- 2:49Speaker 4: News Midday just a couple of weeks ago, and you
- 2:51Speaker 4: and the family in town for summer. So appreciate you
- 2:54Speaker 4: being here. Talk to you a little bit later. And
- 2:57Speaker 4: by the way, next Thursday, I am going to be
- 3:00Speaker 4: taking off. I get Amanda gets a week vacation, I
- 3:04Speaker 4: get one day and I'm not quite I'm not really
- 3:06Speaker 4: happy about that.
- 3:06Speaker 5: I wan you to do that.
- 3:08Speaker 4: I'm kidding, I'm kidding, but I am taking next week off.
- 3:10Speaker 4: So Amy's gonna be guest hosting for me next week
- 3:13Speaker 4: on this show. Yes you are. Yeah, I forgot to
- 3:16Speaker 4: tell you that. Yeah, you're hosting. You're hosting the local
- 3:18Speaker 4: show next Thursday. Good nine to ten.
- 3:21Speaker 5: Hopefully I'll know which buttons to push.
- 3:24Speaker 4: Now, that's why we have a producer.
- 3:25Speaker 6: You're good.
- 3:26Speaker 4: All you gotta do is show up a script.
- 3:29Speaker 5: That's all I have to have.
- 3:30Speaker 4: Scripts, are you? Oh good? I got a bunch of them.
- 3:34Speaker 2: I got it.
- 3:34Speaker 4: But we're gonna get talked to Amy a little bit
- 3:36Speaker 4: later on the show. You're gonna be hearing a lot
- 3:38Speaker 4: from her. So let's go and bringing Angie Gillenwater from
- 3:41Speaker 4: the Gonaal Charleston Humaine Association with this week's adopt Me.
- 3:44Speaker 4: Please put her the week Angie, Good morning, Good morning,
- 3:48Speaker 4: and Angie. This is Amy Amy, this is Angie.
- 3:51Speaker 7: Hello, it's nice to meet Nice to meet you to Angie.
- 3:54Speaker 4: All right, so let's get into some news before we
- 3:58Speaker 4: introduce how it out me. Please spend of the weekend.
- 4:00Speaker 4: As always, the pictures posted on Dave Allen Radio and
- 4:04Speaker 4: Facebook and at Dave seventy on actual We had a
- 4:06Speaker 4: great We got a cat this week too, So that's
- 4:08Speaker 4: good news because Idio is kitten season, right it.
- 4:12Speaker 7: Is exploding kitten season. It is they are falling out
- 4:16Speaker 7: of our doors. There are so many kittens.
- 4:18Speaker 4: How many do you have? Approximately?
- 4:21Speaker 7: There are over at least one hundred and fifty cats
- 4:24Speaker 7: in our care right now. A lot of them are
- 4:26Speaker 7: in foster homes, but over one fifty.
- 4:29Speaker 4: Well, the cat that we have that is today is
- 4:31Speaker 4: not a kitten. He's around five years old. His name
- 4:33Speaker 4: is Turbo. Tell us about Turbo, so Turbo.
- 4:38Speaker 7: Is aptly named. He is living at the Pet Cockpit
- 4:41Speaker 7: Houses as we call it, in Southbridge. When we first
- 4:45Speaker 7: took Turbo up there, he had been freshly neutered. He
- 4:48Speaker 7: kind of didn't know where he was at, and he
- 4:51Speaker 7: escaped from Seth, who is our volunteer coordinator, and Seth
- 4:55Speaker 7: was chasing in their help the pet cohost store, but
- 5:00Speaker 7: Seth was able to secure Turbo. He is much calmer now.
- 5:04Speaker 7: He has slowed down incredibly. He no longer tries to escape.
- 5:09Speaker 7: But Turbo is just the sweetest cat. He loves getting
- 5:12Speaker 7: his head scratched, loves wet food, just your definition of
- 5:16Speaker 7: a lazy cat.
- 5:17Speaker 5: Oh, does he like other does he like other animals?
- 5:20Speaker 5: Does he mind being around puppies?
- 5:24Speaker 7: So dogs? I am not entirely sure. He actually belonged
- 5:28Speaker 7: to a colony in Tent City in Saint Albans, so
- 5:31Speaker 7: we know he has lived around other cats, and I'm
- 5:33Speaker 7: sure he's come across dogs in his lifetime as well.
- 5:37Speaker 7: But cats, for sure. With slow intros, cats are always
- 5:40Speaker 7: dramatic at first when you take him home, it's an
- 5:43Speaker 7: introducing new cats. So but give him a couple of
- 5:47Speaker 7: days with some new cat take it slow, and I'm
- 5:49Speaker 7: sure dogs would not be an issue if you also
- 5:51Speaker 7: took it slow.
- 5:52Speaker 5: That's a good thing. He's adorable, he is.
- 5:55Speaker 7: He has such a sweetheart.
- 5:58Speaker 4: Now, you folks just got a some kind of a
- 6:01Speaker 4: big award at the shelter. I saw on your social
- 6:03Speaker 4: media talk about that.
- 6:05Speaker 7: So we received a official no Kill Shelter plaque from
- 6:09Speaker 7: Best Friends Animal Society, and yeah, we're super excited about it.
- 6:16Speaker 7: But it is a plaque awarded to shelters that saves
- 6:19Speaker 7: over ninety percent of the animals that come into their care,
- 6:23Speaker 7: and we're very proud to say that last year we
- 6:25Speaker 7: had a ninety seven percent thing prae.
- 6:28Speaker 5: Wow, that is fantastic, yeap.
- 6:32Speaker 7: Our facebook post really put it into perspective. That means
- 6:35Speaker 7: literally almost every animal that came into our care, no
- 6:38Speaker 7: matter what condition they were in, almost every single one
- 6:41Speaker 7: of them was adopted.
- 6:43Speaker 5: Oh my gosh, I love it. Am I allowed to
- 6:45Speaker 5: ask how many dogs are for adoption too, So as.
- 6:50Speaker 7: Far as available for adoption, I would say that number
- 6:52Speaker 7: is in the one hundred range, and that I would
- 6:55Speaker 7: say we probably have another one hundred in foster care
- 6:58Speaker 7: because they're too small, or they're they're stick anything like that.
- 7:03Speaker 5: Oh my gosh, you got a lot.
- 7:06Speaker 4: And did I see that you guys at this time
- 7:08Speaker 4: with dog? What are you doing about taking in new
- 7:11Speaker 4: animals at this time unless they're sick or something like that.
- 7:15Speaker 4: You're really not able to right now, Angie.
- 7:17Speaker 7: Right correct. So we are having to turn away healthy
- 7:20Speaker 7: adult dogs or owner surrenders at this time and limit
- 7:24Speaker 7: intake to animals that need immediate medical attention. So it's
- 7:28Speaker 7: been tough. We're trying to do what we can by
- 7:31Speaker 7: handing out supplies to people that need it. For their
- 7:33Speaker 7: healthy adult dogs in the meantime until we can take them.
- 7:36Speaker 7: So we've been handing out creates, dog food, leashes, anything
- 7:41Speaker 7: you might need to keep an animal secure for at
- 7:43Speaker 7: least a week or two.
- 7:45Speaker 4: Nine to fifteen The Dave Island showing five Any Live
- 7:47Speaker 4: is brought to you in parted by Husband's Pizza. This month
- 7:49Speaker 4: get a large at Nitch Pepperoni Pizza and a whole
- 7:51Speaker 4: tenants sub only twenty three to ninety nine. Find your
- 7:54Speaker 4: closest hustands for delivery, pickup or dining in by going
- 7:56Speaker 4: to Husbandspizza dot com. Now, we had some good news
- 7:58Speaker 4: with that award, but we all so had some Some
- 8:01Speaker 4: pretty horrific stories came out of the shelter this week, Angie, Right.
- 8:05Speaker 7: We certainly did. We actually got in a mom and
- 8:08Speaker 7: puppies that were left outside in this heat. One of
- 8:13Speaker 7: our staff member's husband just happened to be driving by
- 8:15Speaker 7: and saw this mama dog practically flag him down. She
- 8:19Speaker 7: was barking and chasing his car on an old dirt
- 8:22Speaker 7: road and nobody travels. He rolls down his window to
- 8:25Speaker 7: just you know, check on her, and he hears puppies
- 8:27Speaker 7: crying in the distance and finds them in a cardboard
- 8:30Speaker 7: box with no shade, no water, no food, and so
- 8:34Speaker 7: he gets the puppies to us. We you know, they're
- 8:37Speaker 7: hot to the touch, so we're suspecting that they are
- 8:40Speaker 7: having you know, heat exhaustion, heat stroke. Two of the
- 8:43Speaker 7: puppies passed away from Oregon failure due to being outside
- 8:47Speaker 7: in the sun. And then one puppy right now is
- 8:49Speaker 7: currently in critical condition. She actually had a sunburn so
- 8:54Speaker 7: bad that it has caused her skin to fall off.
- 8:56Speaker 5: Oh my god.
- 8:58Speaker 4: Yeah, yeah, it's pretty horrible. Uh story. Uh there, And
- 9:02Speaker 4: I'm gonna I'm gonna save editorial comments on how humans
- 9:05Speaker 4: suck uh so for for for another time.
- 9:09Speaker 8: Uh.
- 9:09Speaker 4: We did have a text here that says from somebody
- 9:12Speaker 4: that says that they saw Turbo at Petco and he
- 9:15Speaker 4: was such a sweetie. He loves to play with Okay,
- 9:18Speaker 4: hold on a second, my text disappeared. Uh loves to
- 9:22Speaker 4: loves to play with his uh uh loves you to
- 9:25Speaker 4: rub his head against your finger through the plexiglass. So, yes, Turbo,
- 9:31Speaker 4: as you said, Turbo is a fine Now, was Turbo
- 9:34Speaker 4: at the Petco in uh in Tays Valley or the
- 9:36Speaker 4: one out on the corridor so.
- 9:38Speaker 7: He's at the one on South Ridge on the corridor.
- 9:42Speaker 7: We will soon have kitties moving into the Tays Valley
- 9:44Speaker 7: pet co very very soon, so we're excited about that.
- 9:48Speaker 4: And I'll have to say, it was nice for me
- 9:50Speaker 4: to I told you yesterday or last week on the
- 9:52Speaker 4: air that I was gonna come see you, and my
- 9:54Speaker 4: wife and I were out running some arons on on
- 9:56Speaker 4: Saturday and we stopped by and it was great to
- 9:59Speaker 4: It was great to see you, to meet Seth there
- 10:00Speaker 4: last Saturday.
- 10:02Speaker 9: Yeah.
- 10:02Speaker 7: Absolutely, we love seeing you. And we definitely appreciated the
- 10:05Speaker 7: donation of towels that you gave us. We certainly needed them.
- 10:09Speaker 4: And that's what I wanted to bring this up. They
- 10:11Speaker 4: need towels amy up there because their dryer is on
- 10:15Speaker 4: the fritz and it's in an Angela.
- 10:18Speaker 5: All plenty of old towels.
- 10:19Speaker 4: There you go, Yeah, there you gone.
- 10:21Speaker 5: Oh and I have a question too, what about volunteer opportunities.
- 10:25Speaker 7: So volunteers in this weather with as many animals as
- 10:29Speaker 7: we have, we absolutely need volunteers. And Seth that you
- 10:32Speaker 7: heard me mention, is in charge of our volunteers. So
- 10:36Speaker 7: you can just come up to the shelter anytime. Let
- 10:38Speaker 7: seth know you want to volunteer and we will. Trust me,
- 10:40Speaker 7: we've got something for you to do.
- 10:42Speaker 5: Oh my goodness, I'm coming up.
- 10:43Speaker 4: But explain that to the people why it is that
- 10:45Speaker 4: you need the towels. Again, I didn't do a very
- 10:47Speaker 4: good job of explaining explaining why it is you need
- 10:49Speaker 4: the towels.
- 10:50Speaker 7: Oh gotcha. So any type of linens, blanket, towel, sheet,
- 10:53Speaker 7: we use it all. Our dryer actually caught on fire
- 10:57Speaker 7: and well roake it is in the process. One of
- 11:01Speaker 7: them is totally done for. It is a ten twenty
- 11:05Speaker 7: thousand dollars purchase for one of these industrial dryers. We
- 11:08Speaker 7: have small dryers throughout the shelter that can take small loads.
- 11:11Speaker 7: But again these days have lots of animals that we
- 11:15Speaker 7: are taking care of, so you know, the small dryers
- 11:17Speaker 7: can only do so much. So that is why we
- 11:21Speaker 7: are having to request for blanket donations. A lot of
- 11:24Speaker 7: our linens are outside hanging up drying. And if you
- 11:28Speaker 7: haven't noticed, it's been you know, raining sporadically throughout today.
- 11:33Speaker 7: So we put them out to dry. They'll get almost dried.
- 11:36Speaker 7: Then here comes rainstorm so and they're re wet. So
- 11:39Speaker 7: it's it's been an uphill battle with dry linens perfect.
- 11:43Speaker 5: I have blankets too, I have sheets. I was looking
- 11:46Speaker 5: at my linen closet yesterday and I'm like, I have
- 11:47Speaker 5: way too many sheets. So there you go.
- 11:50Speaker 4: So it looks like you're going to get a visit
- 11:51Speaker 4: from Amy coming up a little bit later on, just
- 11:53Speaker 4: so you know ahead of time. Great, all right, we
- 11:56Speaker 4: look forward to it, all right, angel I do as
- 11:58Speaker 4: always appreciate you being here. You get the next week
- 12:01Speaker 4: off because we're not doing a show on July fourth,
- 12:03Speaker 4: but we'll talk to you here in a couple of weeks.
- 12:04Speaker 7: Okay, alrighty sounds great. I'll have a good one as.
- 12:08Speaker 4: Well, Angie Gilliwater from then Cannell and Charleston. You made
- 12:10Speaker 4: association with Turbo Amy. This week's doctor phone was so
- 12:14Speaker 4: cute a pet of the week picture posted over on
- 12:17Speaker 4: a Dave Island Radio on Facebook and at Dave a
- 12:19Speaker 4: seventy on X. Sounds like he would be a perfect
- 12:21Speaker 4: little gentleman. And I'm always on Angie got text here
- 12:24Speaker 4: every Thursday night and kind of remind her to send
- 12:26Speaker 4: me a pet. And last night she said, and I
- 12:28Speaker 4: put like just dog question mark and she says, No,
- 12:31Speaker 4: We're doing a cat this week, which makes me happy
- 12:33Speaker 4: because I like dogs too, but I'm a cat person too.
- 12:36Speaker 5: I like all animals absolutely. And the best thing about
- 12:39Speaker 5: Turbo for me is because he's out of the kiddy
- 12:42Speaker 5: stage too. He's five, so you know he's not going
- 12:44Speaker 5: to be going around.
- 12:46Speaker 4: Yeah, although he's the curtain. He is an escape artist though,
- 12:49Speaker 4: as you heard at the beginning, he got out in petco.
- 12:52Speaker 4: But once you get I mean, you know, once you
- 12:54Speaker 4: get him inside the full environment. But he is already
- 12:57Speaker 4: neutered and he's already vaccinated five years old. Herbo is
- 13:00Speaker 4: his named. Beautiful cat picture posted Go Adopt Turbo. Dave

- 15:21Speaker 4: We had a question and we'll get to doctor Casey
- 15:24Speaker 4: Sachs here from Bridge Valley momentarily. But we had a
- 15:26Speaker 4: question yesterday when I said you were going to be here,
- 15:28Speaker 4: you of course were on the air at V one hundred.
- 15:30Speaker 4: Did we determine when that was.
- 15:32Speaker 5: Ninety five through ninety nine?
- 15:37Speaker 4: Okay, all right, keep talking because we're having some issues
- 15:39Speaker 4: here getting doctor Casey Sachs.
- 15:41Speaker 5: So oh uh ninety five through ninety nine?
- 15:46Speaker 4: Yeah, okay? And what was your air name here?
- 15:50Speaker 5: It was? I had two air names, Amy Nutter and
- 15:53Speaker 5: also Amy Rain.
- 15:54Speaker 4: Okay, Amy, I like Amy Rain? Where did that come from?
- 15:57Speaker 5: I because I love the rain?
- 16:00Speaker 4: All right?
- 16:00Speaker 5: There you came out of the air.
- 16:03Speaker 4: And of course Amy Nutter was was your maiden name.
- 16:06Speaker 5: That's how I believe I was going to go with
- 16:08Speaker 5: Amy Delaney because when I was in Anchorage, my on
- 16:10Speaker 5: air name was Delaney Parks.
- 16:12Speaker 4: So but where did the Delaney come from?
- 16:16Speaker 5: There is a Delaney Park strip in Anchorage. It's like
- 16:20Speaker 5: the central Park of Anchorage. So I was Delaney Parks.
- 16:23Speaker 4: Okay.
- 16:24Speaker 5: My boss actually wanted me to be Marsha Potter because
- 16:26Speaker 5: there's Potter's Marsh. I really don't want to be a Marsha,
- 16:32Speaker 5: not that there's anything wrong with the mar Marsh is beautiful,
- 16:34Speaker 5: but I wouldn't you Delaney felt more like me?
- 16:37Speaker 4: Okay. And of course you're now a world renowned, much
- 16:40Speaker 4: sought after voiceover artists, and that's what you know. We
- 16:42Speaker 4: had you on the air to talk about that, and
- 16:44Speaker 4: we'll have you on. But you're back in town. You're
- 16:47Speaker 4: and your husband for the summer. Is that right?
- 16:48Speaker 5: Correct?
- 16:49Speaker 4: And so I appreciate you stopping mind hanging out with us,
- 16:51Speaker 4: and you're gonna let you host the show next Thursday.
- 16:53Speaker 4: I think we do have doctor Casey Sachs, now of
- 16:55Speaker 4: Bridge Valley. Doctor Sachs, Welcome to the show.
- 16:58Speaker 12: Good morning, Gabe. How how are you today?
- 17:00Speaker 4: I am doing fine. I've got with me Amy Breedlove,
- 17:03Speaker 4: who is a native of Charleston, who is a much
- 17:06Speaker 4: sought after, world renowned I keep adding these superlatives voiceover artist.
- 17:11Speaker 4: And so Amy meet doctor Sacks, Doctor Sax, meet Amy.
- 17:16Speaker 5: Hello, nice to meet you.
- 17:17Speaker 12: Pleasure you too.
- 17:18Speaker 4: I was telling Amy, I was telling Amy a little
- 17:21Speaker 4: bit of your story, doctor Sax, about how you aren't
- 17:24Speaker 4: from West Virginia. But as the saying goes, you got
- 17:25Speaker 4: here as quickly as you could. Right, you like it?
- 17:27Speaker 12: Here, and you know I've chosen it twice.
- 17:30Speaker 4: Wow, I didn't know you chose it twice.
- 17:32Speaker 5: Fantastic.
- 17:33Speaker 4: Tell us that story real quick and then we'll get
- 17:35Speaker 4: into why you're here. But go ahead.
- 17:37Speaker 7: Yeah.
- 17:37Speaker 12: I moved to West Virginia in twenty sixteen, and then
- 17:40Speaker 12: I moved to Washington, DC to work in the first
- 17:42Speaker 12: Trump administration, and then when that was over, I moved
- 17:45Speaker 12: back to West Virginia in twenty twenty one.
- 17:48Speaker 4: What is it about this place that made you want
- 17:49Speaker 4: to come back here twice? Because you're not from here,
- 17:51Speaker 4: So what made you want to come here?
- 17:53Speaker 12: There's nowhere prettier than West Virginia right on.
- 18:00Speaker 4: So you got a lot of stuff going on out there,
- 18:02Speaker 4: Bridge Valley, and I want to talk a little bit
- 18:05Speaker 4: about some of you had your first Win Academy student
- 18:08Speaker 4: to become a nurse. Tell us about that.
- 18:10Speaker 12: Oh my gosh, yes, Save You've got to be so
- 18:13Speaker 12: excited for his kids.
- 18:15Speaker 7: So the Win.
- 18:16Speaker 12: Academy, as longtime listeners are aware, is an early college
- 18:19Speaker 12: starter high school that I Bridge Valley, so students do
- 18:23Speaker 12: college while they do high school. We had a young
- 18:28Speaker 12: man graduate from high school last year and he spent
- 18:31Speaker 12: this year finishing up his nursing degree and he just
- 18:34Speaker 12: passed his Nurse Nursing State boards, so he's a full
- 18:37Speaker 12: fledged RN. Now he's one year out of high school
- 18:40Speaker 12: and he's exceptional. Wow, a better smile.
- 18:43Speaker 4: Yeah, And because Amy's new here, explain to her and
- 18:46Speaker 4: maybe some of the listeners that are listening for the
- 18:48Speaker 4: first time what the WIN Academy is.
- 18:51Speaker 12: So what we did was we started an early college
- 18:54Speaker 12: high school with the college. And the way those work
- 18:57Speaker 12: is that kids decide, gosh, I want to nurse or
- 19:00Speaker 12: I want to go into manufacturing, and they come and
- 19:03Speaker 12: they do that curriculum while they're in high school, so
- 19:06Speaker 12: it really gets them ahead. They get a huge head start.
- 19:09Speaker 12: They're taking college classes. So it is really hard, and
- 19:12Speaker 12: we try and be very honest with families upfront that
- 19:15Speaker 12: there are kids who want to do this and who
- 19:17Speaker 12: are really excited, and they are kids who are like, yeah,
- 19:20Speaker 12: this is maybe not quite as easy as I wanted
- 19:23Speaker 12: it to be, and that's okay. It's great to grow
- 19:26Speaker 12: up a little bit and then decide to go to school,
- 19:29Speaker 12: but for people who are ready, it's a terrific opportunity
- 19:31Speaker 12: to earn all these college credits completely free and really
- 19:35Speaker 12: get a jump start on your career.
- 19:37Speaker 5: I love it. Education, it's the best.
- 19:39Speaker 4: Well, and again we're talking about these kids that are
- 19:42Speaker 4: this young man is just what do you say, doctor?
- 19:44Speaker 4: A year out of high school and he's already in
- 19:46Speaker 4: r M.
- 19:47Speaker 13: That's right.
- 19:48Speaker 4: And in West Virginia we have an incredible nursing shortage.
- 19:51Speaker 4: I mean we have we have an incredible nursing shortage.
- 19:54Speaker 4: And for this gentleman to where was he from? If
- 19:57Speaker 4: you don't mimad, was he a local guy here in
- 19:58Speaker 4: Charleston or where was he?
- 20:00Speaker 2: You know?
- 20:00Speaker 12: Local local kids?
- 20:03Speaker 4: Okay, very good? I mean, and as long as a're
- 20:05Speaker 4: getting in education, they're greed to stay here in West Virginia.
- 20:08Speaker 4: And that's a big part of it too, because we
- 20:11Speaker 4: play some local right.
- 20:13Speaker 12: That's right. So almost everybody who graduates from Bridge Valley
- 20:16Speaker 12: stays right in the valley. Right Around ninety percent of
- 20:20Speaker 12: our graduates stay local, which is terrific. It's something we're
- 20:24Speaker 12: really proud of. And we specifically are interested in serving
- 20:28Speaker 12: people who live in Putnam County, Stayette County, Clay County,
- 20:31Speaker 12: and Kenna County.
- 20:32Speaker 4: Yeah, that's good stuff. I mean, you've got a lot
- 20:34Speaker 4: of a lot of great things going on at Bridge Valley.
- 20:36Speaker 4: Gain we're talking without doctor Casey Sachsobridge Valley to Day
- 20:38Speaker 4: Island Show in five eighty Live is brought to you
- 20:40Speaker 4: in part by Pinnacle Consultants. Poor indoor air quality can
- 20:43Speaker 4: cause a variety of health issues. Allergies, respiratory problems are more.
- 20:47Speaker 4: Pinnacle offer specialized indoor air quality services for residential, commercial
- 20:51Speaker 4: and industrial type settings. Visopinnacle Court dot net. Because what
- 20:54Speaker 4: you don't know can hurt you. I know you do
- 20:56Speaker 4: a lot of stuff with veterans there at Bridge Valley
- 20:59Speaker 4: and something else that you've been into. As far as
- 21:02Speaker 4: honoring veterans, being involved in veterans programs, talk about that
- 21:06Speaker 4: we do so.
- 21:07Speaker 12: For years, Bridge Valley has been a proud recognition. We
- 21:11Speaker 12: get the recognition of being a military friendly school. And
- 21:15Speaker 12: this year the woman, one of the two women who
- 21:17Speaker 12: runs that program, Tammy mccallahan. She has retired Army. She
- 21:22Speaker 12: was up. She was nominated to be the twenty twenty
- 21:24Speaker 12: five Veteran of Deer and she won. So Tammy is
- 21:28Speaker 12: the Military Friendly Schools Veteran of Deer and she's right
- 21:31Speaker 12: here local at Bridge Valley.
- 21:33Speaker 4: We have a text question here, and I think this
- 21:36Speaker 4: is a very good question to ask, and I'll let
- 21:39Speaker 4: you explain it, Doctor Saxon, what said? Can I ask
- 21:41Speaker 4: the difference between Bridge Valley and other schools, like say
- 21:44Speaker 4: Ben Franklin.
- 21:47Speaker 12: Sure, there's several differences. Ben Franklin is part of the
- 21:52Speaker 12: school district, and so they're specifically designed to serve folks
- 21:56Speaker 12: who are still in high school, who are making other
- 22:00Speaker 12: kinds of technical choices. They're a great open if they
- 22:03Speaker 12: have a program that interests your family, I would certainly
- 22:07Speaker 12: encourage you to send a kid there. Bridge Valley's a
- 22:10Speaker 12: lot more focused on adults, are average ages thirty. We
- 22:14Speaker 12: also are accredited differently than some of the local technical schools,
- 22:18Speaker 12: so we are authorized by the US Department of Education
- 22:21Speaker 12: to issue college degrees. So Bridge Valley is actually a
- 22:25Speaker 12: college college. Ben Franklin can't do that. They could issue
- 22:30Speaker 12: a certificate, or they could help you get some really
- 22:32Speaker 12: good industry training. But if you're thinking about, you know,
- 22:35Speaker 12: maybe five or ten years in the future, you want
- 22:37Speaker 12: to go to Marshall or you want to go to
- 22:39Speaker 12: WVU and be able to transfer and take those credits
- 22:41Speaker 12: with you, you can only do that from Bridge Valley. You
- 22:44Speaker 12: wouldn't be able to do it from a school like
- 22:46Speaker 12: Ben Franklin.
- 22:47Speaker 4: All Right. The acronym that I think that most parents
- 22:52Speaker 4: dread more than any as FAFSA, the Financial Aid program,
- 22:56Speaker 4: and you guys workshops devoted to FASA. Talk about that.
- 23:01Speaker 7: Yep.
- 23:02Speaker 12: So FASTA is the free application for Federal Student Aid.
- 23:06Speaker 12: It has gotten better over here, it is. I can
- 23:12Speaker 12: only say so much for it.
- 23:14Speaker 4: All right, all right, are you there? I think we
- 23:17Speaker 4: lost doctor Sachs. We lost doctor Sachs. So all right, well,
- 23:25Speaker 4: uh that's some things happens technology. Yeah, you gotta love it.
- 23:31Speaker 4: It's good. It's good when it works. Uh. Now, I
- 23:34Speaker 4: think I think we pretty much covered everything with doctor
- 23:36Speaker 4: sax So, well, the doctor Sachs. We do apologize for
- 23:39Speaker 4: that if she well, she's calling back. Okay, all right,
- 23:44Speaker 4: all right, doctor Sacks. We lost you, but you're there now, right.
- 23:48Speaker 12: Great, So we're talking about the radio gods we're not interested.
- 23:53Speaker 4: Well, I mean I told you it's FASSA is. It's
- 23:56Speaker 4: I won't say it's bad news, but it could be
- 23:58Speaker 4: stressful for everybody, including the lines apparently, so go ahead,
- 24:02Speaker 4: that's right, that's right.
- 24:04Speaker 12: So anyway, SASSA is a federal form that folks fill
- 24:07Speaker 12: out to get access to federal student aid. And one
- 24:10Speaker 12: of the things we found is that college is really
- 24:12Speaker 12: affordable in community colleges, especially in West Virginia. Do you
- 24:16Speaker 12: have to fill out this form? So we have dedicated
- 24:18Speaker 12: support all through the summer on Tuesdays and Thursdays to
- 24:22Speaker 12: help people so that it doesn't seem too dark. All right?
- 24:26Speaker 4: Where can people learn more about FAFSA, these workshops or
- 24:28Speaker 4: anything else we got going on at Bridge Valley?
- 24:31Speaker 12: Bridge fast to it's.
- 24:33Speaker 4: Bridge Valley Dot ed you hey, doctor Sachs. If I
- 24:36Speaker 4: don't talk to you, which I probably won't have yourself
- 24:38Speaker 4: a good for the July holiday. We'll be talking to
- 24:40Speaker 4: you again next month. How's that?
- 24:43Speaker 12: Thank you? I was great fourth to July and it's
- 24:45Speaker 12: so nice to meet you Amy.
- 24:46Speaker 5: You as well.
- 24:48Speaker 4: All right, doctor Casey Sackson, Bridge Valley, appreciate you being here.
- 24:51Speaker 4: Apologize for the technical difficulties it happens, as you may know,
- 24:55Speaker 4: twenty eight minutes now in front of ten o'clock and
- 24:58Speaker 4: we'll get to the Charleston did since run. Folks are
- 25:00Speaker 4: going to stop by the studio here momentarily, but Amy,
- 25:02Speaker 4: I want to go back to you just for a moment.
- 25:04Speaker 4: I mean, we're very proud of our partnership that we
- 25:06Speaker 4: have with the Bridge Valley because they're doing some incredible things.
- 25:09Speaker 4: And I mean the fact that you can have a
- 25:11Speaker 4: college student, I mean, what was a high school student
- 25:13Speaker 4: and a year or so later they're now a full
- 25:15Speaker 4: on r N when we have major nursing shortages in
- 25:20Speaker 4: West Virginia. That's good stuff.
- 25:21Speaker 5: What a fantastic resource it is. Indeed, it is awesome.
- 25:25Speaker 4: It is. We had a little bit out in the
- 25:27Speaker 4: green room earlier, a little bit of a Marshall University
- 25:31Speaker 4: reunion because Amy and I were at Marshall at the
- 25:34Speaker 4: same time in the early five years ago. Yea, more
- 25:40Speaker 4: like in the early nineteen nineties. But Amy was there,
- 25:42Speaker 4: I was there, seventy Paul who is our producer of
- 25:45Speaker 4: Metro News Midday was there at that time. And ron Gasnick,
- 25:49Speaker 4: who is one of our sales weasels here, Ronnie Lee,
- 25:52Speaker 4: the famous Ronnie Lee WMO. We were all there at
- 25:55Speaker 4: the same time, and we just had a little bit
- 25:57Speaker 4: of a WMO reunion. It seems like it should be
- 26:00Speaker 4: nineteen ninety all over again out there ninety one.
- 26:03Speaker 5: Ye feels like it kind of. Yeah. Ron and I
- 26:07Speaker 5: used to sit in the back of and he doesn't
- 26:08Speaker 5: remember this, in the back of one of the Spanish
- 26:10Speaker 5: classes and just chat chat chat chat chat.
- 26:13Speaker 4: I can see that. I mean, especially on Ron's behalf.
- 26:15Speaker 4: That's why he's such a good salesman.
- 26:17Speaker 5: I would say so.
- 26:18Speaker 4: Right, all right, Amy Breedlove is here with us. She's
- 26:22Speaker 4: going to be serving as a host for me next Thursday,
- 26:24Speaker 4: but she's also hanging out with me today. We're going
- 26:26Speaker 4: to talk about the Charleston Distance Run when we come
- 26:29Speaker 4: back here momentarily. If you want to weigh in on anything,

- 29:56Speaker 4: Yeah, I said yesterday on Metro New Midday, you know,
- 30:00Speaker 4: because I'm a proud southern West Virginian and Dave Weekly
- 30:04Speaker 4: and I on Hotline were going back and forth over
- 30:06Speaker 4: something and I forget now what it was. He was
- 30:09Speaker 4: coming into preview the show and I said, I'm gonna

- 30:13Speaker 4: but all my families from Wyoming County, And I said,
- 30:16Speaker 4: I'm gonna drop a little Wyoming County on you, and
- 30:18Speaker 4: I said, y'all have words for you fell out? Now
- 30:23Speaker 4: does anybody here know what I just said? When I
- 30:24Speaker 4: said y'all have words for you fell out? And you

- 31:07Speaker 4: All right, So I'll talk about the history of the
- 31:08Speaker 4: distance run.
- 31:10Speaker 8: Well, it started in nineteen seventy one and we're it's
- 31:18Speaker 8: our fifty second year of the race and we're super excited.
- 31:23Speaker 8: We basically travel all over the city of Charleston. We
- 31:26Speaker 8: start currently at the Capitol and we end at Laidley
- 31:31Speaker 8: Field and we run up quarter Ge and run through
- 31:34Speaker 8: Land Heights and then back down running through the streets
- 31:37Speaker 8: of Charleston. So during the regatta, they wanted another event
- 31:43Speaker 8: back in fifty two years ago, and so a group
- 31:46Speaker 8: of guys decided that they would like to have a race,
- 31:50Speaker 8: and they did the course and it turned out it
- 31:52Speaker 8: was fifteen miles and so and then it was nicknamed
- 31:55Speaker 8: America's fifteen mile Race. So that's kind of the history.
- 32:00Speaker 4: And when is it this year?
- 32:02Speaker 8: It is August thirtieth at seven point thirty.
- 32:05Speaker 4: So it actually started as part of the regatta, but
- 32:07Speaker 4: it's not a part of the regatta. This year, it's
- 32:09Speaker 4: it's moved. It's in August.
- 32:11Speaker 8: Rank, yes, it's in August. So when the regatta they
- 32:14Speaker 8: ended the regatta, we continued and then the regatta changed
- 32:18Speaker 8: to over fourth of July, but we've always stayed over
- 32:22Speaker 8: Labor Day weekend.
- 32:23Speaker 4: How many people take part in this approximately?
- 32:25Speaker 8: Oh goodness, about a thousand people. We have so many.
- 32:29Speaker 8: We have hundreds of volunteers, which we absolutely love. We
- 32:33Speaker 8: couldn't do the race without our volunteers. And then we
- 32:37Speaker 8: have about right now we have almost four hundred people
- 32:40Speaker 8: signed up for our three races. So we have a
- 32:42Speaker 8: fifteen mile race, which we're known for, we have a
- 32:46Speaker 8: five k run and walk, and we have a relay
- 32:51Speaker 8: as part of our fifteen miles, so people can run
- 32:54Speaker 8: three miles, five miles, or seven miles, and so that
- 32:58Speaker 8: takes three people to join us.
- 33:00Speaker 4: You're getting a little bit more into my territory here.
- 33:03Speaker 4: That's Victoria. She said you can run, you can walk,
- 33:06Speaker 4: and I said drive and she said no, you cannot rive.
- 33:08Speaker 8: Please don't drive.
- 33:10Speaker 4: So what this relay, what you're saying is I could
- 33:11Speaker 4: get like fifteen of us here from the radio station.
- 33:14Speaker 4: Because that's about that's about what it would take for
- 33:17Speaker 4: us to do it. What is it about the running
- 33:20Speaker 4: in general that that interest you any of you?
- 33:24Speaker 13: To me, it's just like a social hour with my friends,
- 33:28Speaker 13: because it's just a fun thing, and miles miles go
- 33:34Speaker 13: by fact of your friends.
- 33:37Speaker 4: To kind of melt away as your You.
- 33:39Speaker 13: Don't realize how much you need your friends when you're
- 33:43Speaker 13: out trying to get the miles in. It's much easier
- 33:46Speaker 13: to give up quicker when you're alone. You have your
- 33:50Speaker 13: friends pushing you. And also, you know, just just having
- 33:54Speaker 13: like fun conversations on the run, and it's it's just
- 33:59Speaker 13: you know, makes so for the pain that you.
- 34:03Speaker 4: As a non runner, I would say the fact that
- 34:05Speaker 4: you can run and talk at the same time, that
- 34:07Speaker 4: would be a skill in and of itself. For me,
- 34:09Speaker 4: I'm just saying it develops you get there.
- 34:12Speaker 13: You get there with long distance mostly for me anyways,
- 34:16Speaker 13: I mean endorphins. Yeah.
- 34:21Speaker 4: And but you build this as America's fifteen miler, so
- 34:25Speaker 4: I mean again this you've kind of got that brand
- 34:28Speaker 4: and people always look forward to this thing.
- 34:30Speaker 8: Every it's rain or shine, yes, just as long as
- 34:33Speaker 8: there's no lightning.
- 34:35Speaker 4: No lightning just means you got to run faster, right.
- 34:37Speaker 8: That's exactly right. And I tell you why I think
- 34:41Speaker 8: people do enjoy the Charleston Distance Run is to just
- 34:46Speaker 8: get out there and see. We encourage the community to
- 34:49Speaker 8: come out and cheer people along. We've had numerous Olympians come.
- 34:55Speaker 8: It has a rich history here in Charleston. And just
- 35:00Speaker 8: a few seconds ago, I'm wearing a kind of a
- 35:02Speaker 8: vintage shirt right now from nineteen seventy nine and Amy
- 35:08Speaker 8: and she was just like, oh my gosh, do you
- 35:09Speaker 8: have shirts available? And we do have some of the
- 35:12Speaker 8: older shirts because it is such enriched in our communities.
- 35:17Speaker 8: When I go out and talk to people, they're like, oh, yeah,
- 35:20Speaker 8: I remember seeing everybody used to run. And because it
- 35:24Speaker 8: used to be over a couple of thousand people running
- 35:27Speaker 8: through the streets of Charleston. And so now that there's
- 35:30Speaker 8: so many races, it's we're just striving to about one thousand.
- 35:35Speaker 5: Was it or is it still a qualifier for the
- 35:38Speaker 5: Boston Marathon.
- 35:39Speaker 8: It is not a qualifier for the Boston Marathon. It
- 35:43Speaker 8: has to be a half my or a third of
- 35:46Speaker 8: true marathon to five for the Boston Marathon.
- 35:49Speaker 4: Now, you give me some information here, a little QR
- 35:52Speaker 4: code for something called girl Gang Runners and I like
- 35:55Speaker 4: it spelled g r r L gang runners. Talk about this.
- 35:58Speaker 13: Organization, Girl Gang Runners and friends now they started Actually
- 36:05Speaker 13: I started it when I met a bunch of really
- 36:08Speaker 13: cool ladies when I started running about six years ago
- 36:13Speaker 13: five K races and that was really my jam for
- 36:16Speaker 13: a really long time. And then I just kind of
- 36:19Speaker 13: met a bunch of people and we showed up to
- 36:22Speaker 13: all the races and ran together and thought, you know,
- 36:26Speaker 13: maybe we could try this distance thing out. So ran
- 36:30Speaker 13: a half marathon and decided, you know, I would like
- 36:33Speaker 13: to have all my girl gang out on Sundays and
- 36:36Speaker 13: we could just run miles and have fun. And that's
- 36:39Speaker 13: kind of where it started. But we picked up a
- 36:43Speaker 13: bunch of people along the way from our Charleston Park
- 36:47Speaker 13: run family, and we have now we have a bunch
- 36:51Speaker 13: of different uh there's all ages, all paces, guys, girls,
- 36:59Speaker 13: everybody just comes out and that's how we get our
- 37:02Speaker 13: miles in.
- 37:03Speaker 5: So that's really how it started.
- 37:05Speaker 13: But we've grown to include so many people and we
- 37:08Speaker 13: have kind of a following now, so even when folks
- 37:12Speaker 13: come to visit in Charleston, they look us up and
- 37:16Speaker 13: come and join us for our Sunday runs. And that's
- 37:18Speaker 13: how we meet a bunch of our friends.
- 37:21Speaker 4: Talking about the Charleston distance run. Dave Island showing five
- 37:23Speaker 4: eighty Live is Brown, Chew and park Bare your hometown
- 37:25Speaker 4: baseball team, the Charleston Dirty Birds. After a long, long
- 37:28Speaker 4: road trip, the Birds are finally back at home to
- 37:30Speaker 4: begin a weekend series against Gastonia. Tonight at the ballpark,
- 37:33Speaker 4: Night's Blanket Giveaway Night. Tomorrow West Virginion Lottery Night with
- 37:36Speaker 4: lottery tumblers and super Mega fireworks after the game. Sunday
- 37:39Speaker 4: is Bluey Day at the Ballpark with picks with Blue
- 37:42Speaker 4: and Bingo and kids twelve a nunder get in for free.
- 37:45Speaker 4: I have no idea what any of that means, to
- 37:47Speaker 4: be honest with you, take us the schedule, promotions, merchant
- 37:49Speaker 4: more visit Dirtybirds Baseball dot com. I'm sorry, I that's
- 37:53Speaker 4: I mean. I'm showing my ignorance and my non child
- 37:58Speaker 4: my childless life here. I guess I agree with all
- 38:03Speaker 4: that I'm looking at. Can you help us out on this?
- 38:11Speaker 4: Bluey Okay, Blue Blue. He's aware he's got a child.
- 38:17Speaker 16: So the thing about Blue and Bingo is, uh, you
- 38:20Speaker 16: guys are huge fans, right, you got to be big fans.
- 38:22Speaker 4: Oh well, yeah, yeah, I live for it. Yeah.
- 38:24Speaker 16: And and my daughter is is she's seven, and so
- 38:28Speaker 16: it's one of the oh I'm sorry, everybody's okay, everybody's
- 38:32Speaker 16: on headphones, go ahead. My daughter's seven. She's huge into
- 38:35Speaker 16: blue am Bingo. That's like one of her biggest things.
- 38:38Speaker 16: And when she saw that this was coming to the
- 38:41Speaker 16: to uh, that this was coming to town, she was
- 38:42Speaker 16: really big into it. But Blue a Bingo is the
- 38:44Speaker 16: like the biggest thing in her life. We play keep
- 38:46Speaker 16: You Uppy all the time. We got to do things
- 38:48Speaker 16: like that. Oh yeah, keep you upy, she has. That's
- 38:51Speaker 16: the balloon game, you know. And it's really simple. You
- 38:54Speaker 16: just can't let the balloon hit the floor, and you
- 38:56Speaker 16: can use any strategy at all to keep it from
- 38:58Speaker 16: hitting the floor. And we have balloons. One quick thing,
- 39:01Speaker 16: and I'll let you. We have balloons because we play
- 39:02Speaker 16: keep you up you so much. And we have this
- 39:04Speaker 16: weird stairway in our house that sort of descends down
- 39:07Speaker 16: into the basement, so you can kind of throw things
- 39:09Speaker 16: down into there from above, and so the balloons all
- 39:13Speaker 16: get down into that little stairwell. And then when I
- 39:16Speaker 16: go downstairs to do laundry and stuff like that, I
- 39:18Speaker 16: open the door and the like the pressure sucks them
- 39:20Speaker 16: into that room. When you go into my basement now
- 39:22Speaker 16: and open the door, there's balloons everywhere, just from years
- 39:25Speaker 16: and years and years of these balloons being powered up
- 39:27Speaker 16: in my basement. So you could go down there and
- 39:28Speaker 16: there's a little bit of airflow. So you go down there,
- 39:30Speaker 16: it's like a ball pit. These little balloons are just
- 39:32Speaker 16: kind of popping around everywhere, and it's all from previous
- 39:34Speaker 16: games of keep up. It's a good time.
- 39:36Speaker 4: So you see, we've all learned something here today. Girls,
- 39:38Speaker 4: we've all learned something there. So there you go. We
- 39:40Speaker 4: didn't know about the bloe cells. Yeah, I appreciate I
- 39:43Speaker 4: appreciate it very much. All right, Okay, we're good now.
- 39:48Speaker 4: All right, so let's talk about it. Let's get back
- 39:50Speaker 4: to Charleston. Just run again. Oh, by the way, we
- 39:51Speaker 4: had a texture, says anyone know the hottest temperature on
- 39:54Speaker 4: past distance runs.
- 39:56Speaker 13: We would definitely welcome a shower every year, but we
- 39:58Speaker 13: never get.
- 39:59Speaker 4: That sh anybody have any idea, I have no idea.
- 40:03Speaker 8: Last year was really hot, you know, and we we
- 40:07Speaker 8: do have menal we have the best Charleston Fire Department
- 40:11Speaker 8: and ambulance. They really do take care of our people
- 40:14Speaker 8: out there. Last year we had a few incidents and
- 40:19Speaker 8: I'm so thankful that everybody is healthy. Actually, I know
- 40:23Speaker 8: some of them are coming back, so I'm super excited
- 40:27Speaker 8: that they weren't afraid to come back and try to run.
- 40:31Speaker 8: So yeah, it does get Yeah, we have a lot
- 40:34Speaker 8: of volunteers with the water stations to keep everybody cool.
- 40:37Speaker 8: Last year we actually had some people in the community
- 40:41Speaker 8: bring wet wash cloths and they were out on the course.
- 40:45Speaker 8: We have other people that kind of put up other
- 40:47Speaker 8: core water stops that are unofficial just to kind of
- 40:51Speaker 8: keep us hydrated. So that's very important. A lot of
- 40:55Speaker 8: our runners take their own hydration to keep hydrated.
- 41:00Speaker 4: That's key, all right, So give us the website or
- 41:02Speaker 4: the Facebook or how we're gonna people learn more.
- 41:05Speaker 8: Charlestondistance run dot Com is our website and it will
- 41:09Speaker 8: take you to run sign up and it will have
- 41:11Speaker 8: all the information where packet pickup is, which is at
- 41:14Speaker 8: hadd Park this year on Friday, August twenty ninth, from
- 41:19Speaker 8: three to eight. We'll also have a pasta dinner that's
- 41:21Speaker 8: being catered by catering Ladies at a Hurricane And we
- 41:25Speaker 8: have a kids run at six point thirty on Friday,
- 41:28Speaker 8: so we have two different age groups for that. That's
- 41:32Speaker 8: going to be run on from Capitol Street to Court
- 41:34Speaker 8: Street and we'll have some awards at six o'clock. And
- 41:40Speaker 8: your girl.
- 41:41Speaker 13: Gang is my girl gang runs on Sundays and we
- 41:46Speaker 13: do our training runs for the CDR. We train all
- 41:49Speaker 13: year round, but in the summer we amp it up
- 41:52Speaker 13: for the CDR training. And so every Sunday we hold
- 41:56Speaker 13: a training run and I post on our Girl Gmean
- 42:00Speaker 13: Facebook page and on the Charleston Distance Run Strava page
- 42:06Speaker 13: if you have that app, it's a running app, and
- 42:09Speaker 13: so the events are always posted the Friday before Sunday,
- 42:13Speaker 13: and so every other week. This week is a flat run,
- 42:17Speaker 13: next week will be a rollie run. And I say rollies,
- 42:21Speaker 13: but it's basically straight up incline. So you know, we're
- 42:26Speaker 13: just trying to get you in there.
- 42:27Speaker 4: That sounds like fun. I'll tell you what. I'll have
- 42:31Speaker 4: you yeahs on before the event. And then because I
- 42:33Speaker 4: know there's a big need for volunteers and thin can
- 42:35Speaker 4: people also volunteer at the website or get information about volunteers.
- 42:38Speaker 8: And they can email us through the website and we
- 42:42Speaker 8: can definitely always take volunteers. And we do have a
- 42:45Speaker 8: price increase coming up on June thirtieth, so if you
- 42:48Speaker 8: want to take advantage of the.
- 42:49Speaker 4: Can get in now, christ right, sign up. All right, ladies,
- 42:53Speaker 4: and again we'll have you on before the run. I
- 42:55Speaker 4: appreciate you everybody from being here. Thanks, and we all

- 45:31Speaker 4: Nine fifty three. Hamy Breedlove is here and uh she's
- 45:36Speaker 4: been promising. This is a professional voiceover artist extraordinaire. Native
- 45:39Speaker 4: of the Charleston area but living in Florida. Back here
- 45:42Speaker 4: for the summer quickly, though people don't know your story
- 45:45Speaker 4: a radio person voiceover artist, that's t J Meadows, just
- 45:48Speaker 4: don't pay attention to him. Uh so, uh, let's let's
- 45:51Speaker 4: quickly talk about how you got into this whole voiceover thing.
- 45:54Speaker 4: I guess I should turn your microphone on. That would
- 45:56Speaker 4: help go ahead.
- 45:57Speaker 5: The thing on. Here we go, let's see.
- 46:00Speaker 3: So.
- 46:00Speaker 5: Yeah, radio basically just transitions from radio to voiceover. I
- 46:04Speaker 5: was doing voiceover part time while in radio, and thankfully
- 46:07Speaker 5: all of my bosses were like, sure, if you want
- 46:08Speaker 5: to use the production room and do what you need
- 46:12Speaker 5: to do, as long as everything else is done, I'm
- 46:15Speaker 5: good with that. So once I built my client base up,
- 46:19Speaker 5: I just built my little home well husband built the
- 46:22Speaker 5: home studio. I did not. I am not techie whatsoever,
- 46:25Speaker 5: and just started rolling and went to some voiceover conventions.
- 46:31Speaker 5: I took some classes from folks who are definitely way
- 46:37Speaker 5: better than me, and I continue to learn and continue
- 46:41Speaker 5: to evolve, and I also teach voiceover.
- 46:44Speaker 4: Now, and that's what you said on your social media.
- 46:47Speaker 4: You said you're going to give me a voiceover lesson?
- 46:48Speaker 4: Are you gonna make TJ do this too? All right?
- 46:52Speaker 4: What are we doing here?
- 46:53Speaker 3: All right?
- 46:53Speaker 5: So I gave you some scripts.
- 46:55Speaker 4: Yeah, the headphones turned up a little loud of there apparently.
- 46:58Speaker 4: So all right, we got scripts. Here, go pick one.
- 47:01Speaker 4: I'll pick this one. You want TJ to take one? Sure,
- 47:04Speaker 4: I mean well, it says, okay, I'll do one to
- 47:06Speaker 4: let TJ do one. How's that?
- 47:07Speaker 5: Okay? Now I want you to analyze this and think
- 47:11Speaker 5: you know well, I mean you do commercials.
- 47:13Speaker 4: Yeah, so I'm already a professor, that's true. No, I'm
- 47:17Speaker 4: not all right. So so you want me to read
- 47:20Speaker 4: it as I would read it? Yes, okay. The comeback trail.
- 47:25Speaker 4: There's no map, no mile marker, no welcome signe. Yes,
- 47:29Speaker 4: there is at the corner of life and heartache. One
- 47:32Speaker 4: day you may find yourself here and you'll need some
- 47:35Speaker 4: help to bring you back, to carry you home. At
- 47:38Speaker 4: our insurance, we believe that at every setback, there's a
- 47:40Speaker 4: chance to come back and rise. Our insurance Auto Home Life.
- 47:46Speaker 5: Not bad little announcery, So we're gonna don't.
- 47:50Speaker 4: I can't imagine what you're talking about.
- 47:56Speaker 5: So we pull that announcer out and we just make
- 47:58Speaker 5: you nice and kind of flat gravitas little drama with
- 48:02Speaker 5: the comeback trail. There is no map, no mile marker
- 48:07Speaker 5: to where you're just kind of chatting.
- 48:08Speaker 4: Okay, all right, his turn nowt Okay, I didn't come
- 48:11Speaker 4: in here for this. Yeah. Well, if you can't humiliate
- 48:14Speaker 4: your friends and coworkers, who can you have?
- 48:16Speaker 6: I have a voice for comic books, for current all right, uh,
- 48:19Speaker 6: animation too?
- 48:20Speaker 4: Okay?
- 48:21Speaker 6: Well yeah, United States Postal Service, tangled lights, mall parking,
- 48:27Speaker 6: and some assembly. Required a few reasons to get a
- 48:30Speaker 6: head start on the holidays.
- 48:32Speaker 4: Fly like an eagle. United States Postal Service.
- 48:35Speaker 5: All Right, you were reading that, Yeah, I do that, Okay,
- 48:38Speaker 5: so I know. Okay, So what you have to do
- 48:42Speaker 5: is take those first three things and we're going to
- 48:44Speaker 5: put it into real life, make it believable. So tangled lights,
- 48:47Speaker 5: like a tangled lights, drive to the mall, mall parking,
- 48:52Speaker 5: and then you get home. You have your Ikia thing
- 48:55Speaker 5: that you're putting together, and it's like, oh, I'm gonna
- 48:56Speaker 5: be up to three am doing this, and Emily required
- 49:02Speaker 5: you're good.
- 49:03Speaker 2: I'm not.
- 49:04Speaker 4: I'll stick. I'll stick to politics. But to be to
- 49:07Speaker 4: be fair, she's a trained professional and we're pretty much
- 49:09Speaker 4: trained monkeys. So so they just put us behind a
- 49:12Speaker 4: micros So you're telling me I'm not donal la Fontan.
- 49:14Speaker 4: Is that what you're telling? Well, I mean you're barely
- 49:17Speaker 4: not not. But that's okay, it's all good. It's all good.
- 49:20Speaker 4: I know where I stand. At a text here says
- 49:22Speaker 4: do I remember Amy telling his story on air about
- 49:24Speaker 4: driving to Alaska?
- 49:26Speaker 5: Yes, a husband and I drove to Alaska right after
- 49:30Speaker 5: we got married, and it was a blast. Got to
- 49:33Speaker 5: see a lot of states.
- 49:35Speaker 4: And how do you drive to Alaska? I mean, what's
- 49:38Speaker 4: what's the time here?
- 49:40Speaker 5: Let's see. It took us a week. Gosh, I can't
- 49:43Speaker 5: remember this.
- 49:43Speaker 4: For a week.
- 49:45Speaker 5: We drove from Charleston to Bellingham, Washington, boarded a ferry,
- 49:51Speaker 5: and then the fairy took us to whitty Er, Alaska,
- 49:55Speaker 5: and then we drove into Anchorage.
- 49:57Speaker 4: You missed with Alaska, you know, I missed the food.
- 50:00Speaker 5: I missed, my friends.
- 50:01Speaker 4: What is Alaskan food, by the way, very healthy? Okay,
- 50:06Speaker 4: it's uh seafood?
- 50:09Speaker 5: There is there, the fresh salmon, the fresh halibit is.
- 50:14Speaker 5: You know, you just walk down to ship Creek, which
- 50:16Speaker 5: is right there in the middle of town and grab
- 50:19Speaker 5: your fish and you can cook it. Or you just
- 50:21Speaker 5: caught that day, so you can just go to Humpies
- 50:22Speaker 5: and yeah.
- 50:25Speaker 4: But I mean, I'm still trying to wrap my head
- 50:27Speaker 4: around the fact that you drove for a week. I
- 50:30Speaker 4: mean I complained about driving from Chane's Valley to Charleston.
- 50:34Speaker 5: You know, well we were young, we were young men
- 50:39Speaker 5: and just married, right, Yeah, exactly. We were in love,
- 50:44Speaker 5: so you know, I didn't think about anything else. But

- 50:50Speaker 5: because I kind of wanted to take my time at
- 50:52Speaker 5: certain parts. He's like, Nope, we got to do this
- 50:54Speaker 5: and do this and do this because we had to
- 50:55Speaker 5: get to the ferry. And I did get to see
- 50:59Speaker 5: soon on the ferry. Had no idea what I was
- 51:02Speaker 5: in for, but it was a storm, a winter storm
