- 0:00Ezekiel chapter 34 Dear Lord, please open our eyes, our ears
- 0:06and our hearts to what you have to say.
- 0:08We ask this in Jesus name. The word of the Lord came to me,
- 0:14Son of Man, prophecy against the shepherds of Israel prophecy and
- 0:19say to them, this is what the sovereign Lord says.
- 0:23Woe to you, shepherds of Israel who only take care of
- 0:26yourselves. Should not shepherds take care
- 0:30of the flock? You eat the curds, clothe
- 0:33yourself with the wool, and slaughter the choice animals,
- 0:38but you do not take care of the flock.
- 0:40You have not strengthened the weak or healed the sick or bound
- 0:46up the injured. You have not brought back the
- 0:50strays or searched for the lost. You have ruled them harshly and
- 0:57brutally so. They were scattered because
- 1:00there was no shepherd, and when they were scattered, they became
- 1:03food for all the wild animals. My sheep wandered over all the
- 1:08mountains and on every high hill.
- 1:11They were scattered over the whole earth and no one searched
- 1:15or looked for them. There's a lot of symbology in
- 1:19here, and the shepherds of Israel are the leaders.
- 1:24The sheep as consistently applied throughout the Bible,
- 1:28are the followers, actually the followers of Christ, the
- 1:32followers of God, God's God's sheep, you know, he, Jesus is
- 1:38called the Good Shepherd. But right now in this time, in
- 1:42Ezekiel's time, there were leaders of Israel and they were
- 1:47probably the kings as well as the priests because there were
- 1:51both of them that were ruling the up until the Jerusalem was
- 1:57destroyed. So maybe it's just the priest at
- 2:01this time since they were taken into exile to Babylon and Judah
- 2:05was the last one since the 10 tribes of Israel were already
- 2:08take taken over by Assyria and scattered.
- 2:12So God is, you know, he's speaking to Ezekiel and he's
- 2:18telling him it's about the shepherds of Israel.
- 2:21Those are who are supposed to take care of the sheep, take
- 2:24care of his, his flock. And they're only taking care of
- 2:28themselves. They're not taking care of the
- 2:30flock. They're OK, let's just use the
- 2:34words of what it symbolizes. They're only taking care of
- 2:36themselves. They're not taking care of the
- 2:39people that are entrusted to them.
- 2:42And they're not strengthening those who are weak, perhaps weak
- 2:46in faith, not healing the sick or taking care of those injured
- 2:55and not bringing back those lost, those who have strayed
- 2:58away from the faith, those who have strayed away from the
- 3:02truth, from what all of the ancestors knew of God.
- 3:06Nobody's going to search for them.
- 3:09Instead, they are ruling them harshly and brutally.
- 3:14So it sounds like there's just giving judgement on them and
- 3:19that they're not, they're not doing anything to help them.
- 3:23They're just judging them. And that's something that we can
- 3:27all relate to. We can learn from this that we
- 3:32are not in a placement of judgement of others.
- 3:37That is what Jesus will do when he returns.
- 3:40We all of us, I think have a responsibility as Jesus
- 3:46commanded, to make disciples of others to share the news of the
- 3:53Kingdom of God so that people can make their choice and decide
- 3:57whether they are going to choose, choose it, choose to
- 4:01abide in Christ, or if they're going to reject it.
- 4:05But that's kind of what everyone has been the purpose everyone
- 4:10has been given who becomes a believer.
- 4:13Any believer is called to do that.
- 4:16So he's he also says that they're scattered, like all the
- 4:20people are scattered and they because they don't have a
- 4:23leader. And when they don't have a
- 4:26leader, then the enemy of God, or if you call it the wild
- 4:32animals here, the enemy of God swoops down and takes them,
- 4:37takes them away. So they're not going to be in
- 4:39the Kingdom of God because they're now enslaved by God's
- 4:44enemy. And he says that his people
- 4:47wandered all over the mountains and on every high hill.
- 4:51It's my sheep. That's what he said.
- 4:52But I believe this is a reference to all the altars that
- 4:57they pushed up on all the high hills to worship other deities.
- 5:03And because they didn't have a strong leader that was keeping
- 5:06them grounded in their faith of the one true God, they got
- 5:09absorbed into the enemy and started sacrificing on high
- 5:16hills all around. That we're not God.
- 5:20But God is looking to the leaders of Israel to say this is
- 5:24not what I wanted you to do. They were scattered all over the
- 5:27whole earth and no one looked for them.
- 5:28Nobody cared about them, says, Therefore you shepherds, hear
- 5:32the word of the Lord. As surely as I live, declares
- 5:34the Lord, because my flock lacks a shepherd and so has been
- 5:38plundered and become food for the wild animals, and because my
- 5:42shepherds did not search for my flocks, but cared for themselves
- 5:46rather than for my flocks, therefore you shepherds hear the
- 5:50word of the Lord. This is what the Sovereign Lord
- 5:53says. I am against the shepherds and
- 5:57will hold them accountable for my flock.
- 6:00I will remove them from tending the flock so that shepherds can
- 6:05no longer feed themselves. I will rescue my I think it says
- 6:10like I will rescue my flock from their mouths and it will no
- 6:16longer be food for them. For this is what the Sovereign
- 6:20Lord says. I myself will search for my
- 6:24sheep and look after them. As a shepherd looks after his
- 6:28scattered flock when he is with them, so will I look after my
- 6:32sheep. I will rescue them from all the
- 6:35places where they were scattered on a day of clouds and darkness.
- 6:40That sounds like Judgement Day to me.
- 6:43When Jesus is going to do this, when he gathers his people,
- 6:48gathers his flock, I will bring them out from the nations and
- 6:52gather them from the countries. I will bring them into their own
- 6:57land. Now this is, you know, spoken to
- 6:59Israel and there's going to be a time where they are out and, and
- 7:04some say that this already has happened prior to 1948 when
- 7:10Israel became a nation and people look to 1948, Israel's
- 7:14becoming a nation. Is this happening?
- 7:16And I see it as a precursor or a foreshadowing of what is yet to
- 7:23Gump to come. Because I believe that this is
- 7:28what scripture is telling us as we get into it further, that
- 7:32this is this is a future statement of what it's going to
- 7:35be because people are still just dispersed.
- 7:38I mean, there are Jews all over. In fact, I heard a statistic
- 7:42recently that said New York had the highest percentage or the
- 7:47highest number of Jewish people, even greater than Israel.
- 7:51I don't know if it was just by city, by city, or entire
- 7:54population. I don't recall what that was.
- 7:57But I was surprised when I saw that.
- 8:00And I didn't verify that. So somebody might need to verify
- 8:03that. So I probably shouldn't have
- 8:04even said that since I didn't verify it myself.
- 8:07But anyway, it's, it is true that people are still spread.
- 8:13Jewish people that have a Jewish heritage, that are descendants
- 8:17are spread all over. And so therefore, as and as more
- 8:22as stated in this chapter, I do believe that there is a future
- 8:27fulfillment of this. Maybe it's partially fulfilled
- 8:29in 1948, but it's not the full completion of it.
- 8:34Verse 13 I will bring them out of the nations and gather them
- 8:38from the countries, and I will bring them into their own land.
- 8:41I will pasture them on the mountains of Israel, in the
- 8:45ravines and in all the settlements in the land.
- 8:48I will tend them in a good pasture, and the mountain
- 8:52heights of Israel will be their grazing land.
- 8:55There they will lie down in good grazing land, and there they
- 9:01will feed in a rich pasture on the mountains of Israel.
- 9:06I myself will tend my sheep and have them lie down, declares the
- 9:12Sovereign Lord. I.
- 9:14I will search for the lost and bring back the strays.
- 9:18I will bind up the injured and strengthen the weak.
- 9:23But the sleek and the strong I will destroy.
- 9:27I will be. I will shepherd the flock with
- 9:30justice. As for you my flock, this is
- 9:36what the Sovereign Lord says. I will judge between 1 sheep and
- 9:42another, and between Rams and goats.
- 9:47Is it not enough for you to feed on the good pasture?
- 9:51Must you also trample on the rest of your pasture with your
- 9:55feet? Is it?
- 9:57Is it not enough for you to drink Clearwater?
- 10:00Must you also muddy the rest with your feet?
- 10:05Must my flock feed on what you have trampled, and drink what
- 10:10you have muddied with your feet? Therefore this is what the
- 10:13Sovereign Lord says to them. See, I myself will judge between
- 10:18the fat sheep and the lean sheep, because you shove with
- 10:22flank and shoulder, butting all the weak sheep with your horns
- 10:27until you have driven them away. I will save my flock, and they
- 10:31will no longer be plundered. I'm going to pause there because
- 10:35sounds like, you know, there's no leader, but the sheep are,
- 10:41you know, battling it out with one another.
- 10:43This seems very familiar to me, too.
- 10:47This is obviously written to Israel, but it does seem
- 10:51applicable in the world when we look at Christians and division
- 10:56among Christians that, you know, sheep are butting against sheep.
- 11:00And there needs to be care in that, that people are not driven
- 11:05away in that process. Because while there are
- 11:09disagreements among people, it's important from God's perspective
- 11:15that we're not driving away sheep from differing opinions.
- 11:21Just like God also said, Jesus said that a Kingdom divided will
- 11:26not stand. And so we have to remember those
- 11:30words of God and remember them in our daily lives.
- 11:34I will save my flock, and they will no longer be plundered.
- 11:38I will judge. See, I will judge this the Lord
- 11:42saying that between 1 sheep and another, I will place over them
- 11:46one shepherd, my servant David, and he will tend them.
- 11:52He will tend them and be their shepherd.
- 11:55I the Lord will be their God and my servant will be Prince among
- 12:02them. I the Lord have spoken.
- 12:06So here's another reason why I believe this is future because
- 12:11Ezekiel was written, you know, hundreds of years probably after
- 12:17David was king because the sequence of his David and then
- 12:22his son and then a whole bunch of kings came after a divided
- 12:27Kingdom. The northern was Israel and the
- 12:31southern was Judah. And so first the then the 10
- 12:37tribes of Israel were defeated by Assyria, and then the 2
- 12:41tribes of Judah and Benjamin were defeated by Babylon.
- 12:45So now to say to Ezekiel that my servant David will be their
- 12:51Prince. How does that work?
- 12:54Well, if we've read the New Testament and we've read the
- 12:58rest of Ezekiel, you can see that there is a resurrection
- 13:03that happens when Jesus returns. And, and, and there's actually a
- 13:09couple questions that I have and I don't have the answer and but
- 13:13it's something interesting. There's one of the gospels, and
- 13:15I forgot which one, if it was Matthew or Mark that talks about
- 13:18when Jesus died, the graves were open and people were seeing the
- 13:24dead were walking around Jerusalem.
- 13:27And there's nothing more after that.
- 13:28Like we don't know what happened to them after that.
- 13:31It that's all we know. And so I thought, wow, that's
- 13:35pretty significant. Like why is there not more
- 13:37written about that? And I don't have the answer to
- 13:41that. But you know, of course there's
- 13:44speculation. You know, what happened Were
- 13:47these with Jesus? The first fruits did was someone
- 13:52like David raised at this point? I don't know.
- 13:57I don't know. Or will David be resurrected
- 14:02when Jesus returns? And is he still in the grave
- 14:05today? We don't have the answers to any
- 14:08of that. But we do have a prophet,
- 14:11Ezekiel, who's saying my servant David.
- 14:13Now some may say, oh, that's, you know, talking about the
- 14:15David's line, but it doesn't say that.
- 14:18And it says my servant David will be Prince.
- 14:21Jesus is going to be King David. It would make sense that he
- 14:27would be Prince and and maybe there was more to, you know,
- 14:31there will forever be a throne, you know, like he will ever,
- 14:34forever be on a throne in some manner.
- 14:37So I just think it's interesting and there's further on.
- 14:41I mean, when you get into the Ezekiel's prophecy about the
- 14:44temple, it does talk about the Prince.
- 14:49And when I was first reading that, I was like, who is this
- 14:53Prince? And I started searching and I
- 14:55did come to the conclusion that it was David.
- 14:58And I don't know if it was actually this chapter that
- 15:01helped me get to that conclusion.
- 15:04But like later on, and I know I'm jumping ahead and we haven't
- 15:07even read it yet, but in the future temple, there's
- 15:11sacrifices that are being made and it says the Prince does it
- 15:15and he does it for the people of Israel and for his own sins.
- 15:21So I don't quite comprehend why sacrifices are I I don't know.
- 15:30I don't understand that yet because we know that Jesus was
- 15:35the final sacrifice that was required.
- 15:38And I don't know if it's a teaching process for Jesus with
- 15:43his people, if that's what occurs in the Millennium.
- 15:47I'm not really sure why this happens.
- 15:50And maybe, well, I guess when it happens, we'll understand.
- 15:53But anyway, I just thought this was really interesting because I
- 15:57do believe that David will be resurrected and will be a Prince
- 16:02over Israel. So verse 25, I will make a
- 16:08covenant of peace with them and rid the land of savage beast so
- 16:12that they may live in the wilderness and sleep in the
- 16:15forest in safety. I mean, this has not happened
- 16:20yet where you could where you could have, especially in
- 16:26Israel. I mean, we all know that the
- 16:28Middle East has, is a source of major conflict that has never
- 16:32ceased. Ever since biblical days, it's
- 16:35been in conflict. I remember it as a child first,
- 16:40like hearing about conflict in the Middle East.
- 16:43And I thought, what is wrong with those people?
- 16:44Why are they always fighting? And I didn't quite understand
- 16:49until I finally read the Bible. And then I'm like, oh, now I
- 16:52understand. And this is a spiritual battle.
- 16:55It's nothing less than that and it's a battle over territory and
- 17:01God said Jerusalem is going to be where he reigns from, where
- 17:06Jesus reigns from as king. And the enemy doesn't doesn't
- 17:10want that to happen. So verse 26, I will make them
- 17:14and the places surrounding my hill a blessing.
- 17:18I will send down showers in season.
- 17:20There will be showers of blessing.
- 17:22The trees will yield their fruit and the ground will yield its
- 17:26crops. The people will be secure in
- 17:29their land. They will know that I am the
- 17:32Lord. When I break the bars of their
- 17:35yoke and rescue them from the hands of those who enslaved
- 17:41them. They will no longer be plundered
- 17:45by nations. Well we already know like
- 17:47October 7th 2023 they were plundered but it says they will
- 17:53no longer be plundered. So this is future.
- 17:56Nor will wild animals devour them.
- 17:59They will live in safety. Israel does not live in safety.
- 18:04So this is future also and no one will make them afraid.
- 18:09You can't say that of Israel right now.
- 18:12I will provide for them a land renowned for its crops, and they
- 18:16will no longer be victims of famine in the land or bear the
- 18:21scorn of the nations. Then they will know that I the
- 18:26Lord their God and with them, and that they, the Israelites,
- 18:32are my people, declares the sovereign Lord.
- 18:35You are my sheep, the sheep of my pasture, and I am your God,
- 18:41declares the sovereign Lord. So this is God again, affirming
- 18:47his covenant with the Israelites.
- 18:51And that should be something that all of us should pay
- 18:54attention to today when people are saying, you know, that the
- 18:58Israelites aren't God's chosen and all of this, like that's
- 19:02contradictory to the Bible and the Bible is truth.
- 19:05So no one who calls themselves a Christian can say that because
- 19:14if you do, you're saying that your opinion is greater than
- 19:17God's Word. So anyway, I will read the
- 19:22questions and answers for this chapter 34 and then probably go
- 19:28into chapter 35 because it's very short.
- 19:30So who were the shepherds of Israel?
- 19:32They were Israel's spiritual and political leaders.
- 19:36A shepherd responsible for a flock of sheep was a common
- 19:39sight in Ezekiel's time. It was an image the people
- 19:42associated with leadership. Our spiritual leaders held to a
- 19:46higher standard of responsibility.
- 19:48Without question, God has given them gifts to lead, and He has
- 19:54called them to provide for His people.
- 19:57Leaders must govern wisely, ensure that God's plan is
- 20:02carried out, and give people every opportunity to worship
- 20:06God. When leaders fail, they must
- 20:09shoulder the blame for their people's spiritual distress.
- 20:17How did the Lord intend to be Israel's shepherd?
- 20:20Since Israel's leaders had failed to care for the people,
- 20:23God declared that He would again lead them himself.
- 20:27Israel had earlier been ruled by God's direct decree, not by
- 20:31kings. Following their return from
- 20:34Babylonian captivity, the Israelites again would have no
- 20:38king, but only leaders raised up by God.
- 20:43This prophetic word found ultimate fulfillment in the
- 20:47coming Messiah, the Good Shepherd.
- 20:52Why would God destroy the best sheep?
- 20:54The sleek and strong sheep were not the best sheep in God's
- 21:00eyes. They were the opposite of those
- 21:03described as weak, sick, injured, and lost.
- 21:07The shepherds of Israel or the spiritual and political leaders
- 21:10of Israel, had catered to the wealthy and privileged and had
- 21:14despised the scattered sheep of God.
- 21:18God was warning them here that after He gathered His remnant,
- 21:23He would destroy those who had acted unjustly toward His flock.
- 21:29So the remnant that I believe they're talking about in the
- 21:32study Bible question and answer is the 12,000 from each tribe.
- 21:37Whether that's a literal 12,000 or a figurative one or symbolic
- 21:41one, we'll we don't know. But the Bible says 12,000 and it
- 21:46lists each tribe and they were sealed.
- 21:50An Angel seals them on their head, anoints them, I guess,
- 21:56perhaps sealed, maybe with the Holy Spirit, so they are given
- 22:00protection and they are the remnant.
- 22:02But destruction is going to come upon the others, the wrath of
- 22:06God. So anyway, that's in the Book of
- 22:11Revelation. How could David, long dead, lead
- 22:15Israel again? The people of Ezekiel's day had
- 22:18no trouble recognizing that this was not a promise that Kim, King
- 22:22David himself, would return from the dead.
- 22:24It was clear to them that this was a promise of the coming
- 22:28Messiah, a descendant of David. To them, a person's name was an
- 22:32expression of character, perhaps more so than identity.
- 22:36David's name in this prophecy indicated not only his
- 22:39descendant, but also someone who would be, like David, a man
- 22:43after God's own heart. So I disagree with the study
- 22:47Bible here because of the things I said already about the Prince
- 22:53sacrificing it says for himself. Because at one point I did
- 22:57consider that the Prince that they talk about in the temple
- 23:01was Jesus because I followed that same train of thought.
- 23:05But then I was like, no, Jesus wouldn't be sacrificing for his
- 23:09own sins because it says that's what the Prince does.
- 23:13So that's clearly not Jesus that's being talked about
- 23:17anyway. So when we get to that chapter,
- 23:19we can talk more about it. So now I'm going to read chapter
- 23:2335. The word of the Lord came to me.
- 23:26Son of Man set against what? Set your face against Mount
- 23:31Sier, prophecy against it, and say this is what the sovereign
- 23:35Lord says. I am against you, Mount Sier,
- 23:39and I will stretch my hand against you and make you a
- 23:43desolate waste. I will turn your towns into
- 23:48ruins and you will be desolate. Then you will know that I am the
- 23:54Lord. So this land that's being
- 23:58referred to as the land of Edom from back in Ezekiel's day, it's
- 24:03the current land of Jordan. So it's here's the reason why.
- 24:10So God does, when he gives these prophecies, he does say like why
- 24:14this is going to happen. So he just said that Edom or
- 24:17Jordan is going to become desolate.
- 24:20And why is he doing this? Here's why.
- 24:22Because you harbored an ancient hostility and delivered the
- 24:27Israelites over to the sword at the time of their calamity, the
- 24:31time their punishment reached its climax.
- 24:36Therefore, as I live, declares the sovereign Lord, I will give
- 24:39you over to bloodshed, and it will pursue you.
- 24:43Since you did not hate bloodshed, bloodshed will pursue
- 24:47you. I will make Mount Sier A
- 24:49desolate waste. Cut it off, or cut off from it
- 24:54all who come and go. I will fill your mountains with
- 24:58the slain. Those killed by the sword will
- 25:01fall on your hills and in your valleys and in your ravines.
- 25:05I will make you desolate forever.
- 25:09OK, when you see forever, it says your towns will not be
- 25:14inhabited, then you will know that I am the Lord.
- 25:20So I think there's a lot of things that point to the future.
- 25:22First of all, forever that hasn't happened yet, then you
- 25:26will know that I am the Lord. I don't think the majority of
- 25:30people in this area that we're talking about are Christian.
- 25:35So if they're not Christian, they don't know that he is the
- 25:40Lord. So again, the other thing that
- 25:44it says, the time their punishment reached its climax.
- 25:49So we know from these prophecies that there is a time that people
- 25:54do refer to as Jacob's trouble. And I believe that's what the
- 25:58great tribulation is, or the wrath of God.
- 26:01It's for all of those who are unrepentant, who stay in their
- 26:06sin, who don't acknowledge Jesus.
- 26:09And this is a word of warning. And right now, while we have
- 26:13time, there's time for people to learn more about God, about
- 26:21Jesus, who he is, what he did come to faith and, and we have
- 26:27that time, but there's going to come a time when God says, OK,
- 26:32this is it, time's up. All who have done it, you know,
- 26:36you're, you're protected. But all who are who have
- 26:39rebelled against me and reject, reject my son, It's it's time
- 26:45for judgement and wrath or wrath, I guess.
- 26:49And and so that's yeah, that's what it's talking about here,
- 26:54verse 10, because you have said these two nations and countries
- 26:59will be ours and we will take possession of them.
- 27:02Even though I the Lord was there.
- 27:06I'm going to pause there. So when I read this, I thought
- 27:11God always, Jesus, God, you know, the Lord always said I'm
- 27:15going to rule from Jerusalem. So he's claimed that territory.
- 27:20And over all these years there is a battle between Jordan and
- 27:25Israel over who controls the Temple Mount, who can be on
- 27:31there, who can worship, what can be done?
- 27:33All those things are happening today and there is not.
- 27:38I mean there's some talk about a two state solution that would be
- 27:42dividing the land. And it's interesting here
- 27:46because the Lord is prophesying through Ezekiel about Jordan and
- 27:50saying these two nations and countries will be ours and we
- 27:54will take possession of them. So somebody is claiming
- 27:58territory that is not theirs. Like God said, it was his.
- 28:04And here's another interesting thing that just popped into my
- 28:06head just because of what's going on in Gaza right now and
- 28:10all the different nations that are there.
- 28:12And they're talking about like building up Gaza and making it
- 28:15into this city. And, you know, they, they have
- 28:18all these plans and there's some, you know, they're taking
- 28:21control of Gaza and, you know, making nice plans for buildings
- 28:27and, you know, businesses and things like that, that that's
- 28:30all good. But did anybody consult God
- 28:32about that? Because that's part of God's
- 28:35territory. God's territory does go from the
- 28:40rivers to the sea. That's God's land.
- 28:42And so I think this might, you know, could this perhaps be
- 28:48talking about the Temple Mount and Gaza?
- 28:52I don't know. These two nations and countries
- 28:55will be ours, and we will take possession of them even though
- 28:59I, the Lord, was there. Therefore, surely, as I live,
- 29:02declares A sovereign Lord, I will treat you in accordance
- 29:06with the anger and jealousy you showed in your hatred of them,
- 29:10and I will make myself known among you among them.
- 29:14When I judge you, then you will know that I, the Lord, have
- 29:19heard all the contemptible things you have said against the
- 29:23mountains of Israel. You said they have been laid
- 29:28waste and have been given over to us to devour.
- 29:33So it sounds like there's a future calamity ahead for Israel
- 29:37that's going to happen. And then sounds like Jordan is
- 29:42going to say, OK, this is our time to take this land.
- 29:45But God has the last word. You boasted against me and spoke
- 29:51against me without restraint, and I heard it.
- 29:54This is what the sovereign Lord says while the whole earth
- 29:57rejoices. That sounds like close in our
- 30:01time because while the whole world rejoices, think of all the
- 30:05people right now that do not like Israel.
- 30:08And if Israel is removed from their land, there'd be a lot of
- 30:12cheering. I mean, there's a lot of like
- 30:15protesters, probably paid protesters who are, you know,
- 30:18saying free, free and all this stuff.
- 30:21And and so you can, you could see how if this would happen in
- 30:26our day, that there would be cheering and rejoicing saying,
- 30:30yeah, we got, we got rid of them.
- 30:32We, we got this, we got this land, this is ours now.
- 30:36But God's going to say, uh huh, nobody, it's not yours because
- 30:41you rejoiced when the inheritance of Israel became
- 30:44desolate. That is how I will treat you.
- 30:48You will be desolate. Mount Sier, you and all of Edom,
- 30:55then you will know that I am the Lord.
- 30:57So that's the outcome of them thinking they know.
- 31:02What is the final outcome? God's not going to let it
- 31:07happen. So what is?
- 31:10These are questions and answers and then I'll wrap this up.
- 31:12What is Mount Seir? Mount Seir is the country of
- 31:15Edom where the descendants of Esau lived.
- 31:19So this is the long time and it's also modern day Jordan, but
- 31:23it's the long time animosity. Esau and Jacob were brothers and
- 31:29Esau cared more about, if you want to call it like fleshly
- 31:34desires, worldly desires. He was hungry, he was out
- 31:36hunting, he was hungry, he wanted food and he was so hungry
- 31:40that he he was like that Jacob, you know, said had Stew and
- 31:45said, well, I'll give you this if you give up your first, your
- 31:50rights as the first born and Esau did, it wasn't that
- 31:54important to him. And so I think that's a
- 31:59principle that we can all apply to our lives.
- 32:02Like where is is God our as our priority?
- 32:05Like there are certain promises that God has made to his
- 32:10children and, and warnings and guardrails and all these
- 32:15different things that God has given us in his word.
- 32:20And do we just dismiss them? And do we just live for today
- 32:25and live for our own desires? Or do we consider what does God
- 32:31want and are we obedient to God? And do we seek God and do we do
- 32:39we put God as a priority? And those are all questions that
- 32:44we all have to answer for ourselves and, and consider when
- 32:51we think about eternity. Because a lot of these people in
- 32:55the Bible, I think are given to us documented so that we can
- 32:58learn from others mistakes. Like Esau made a mistake.
- 33:03He didn't think so much about his being first born and his
- 33:07inheritance and he gave it away for momentary satisfaction.
- 33:13I would certainly, if I was Esau, I would regret that
- 33:16because to have one meal and to give away your inheritance for
- 33:19all of that. And anyway, it's we should, we
- 33:25should think about, you know, like do we go after a fleshly
- 33:30desire and give up our inheritance?
- 33:33That would be our question today.
- 33:36And do we choose sin over obedience to God?
- 33:41That's a question that we have to ask ourselves anyway.
- 33:46Then the next, the last question and answer says what caused
- 33:51their grudge against Israel? It started when Jacob tricked
- 33:56his brother Esau out of his birthright.
- 33:58You can read about that in Genesis chapter 25, verses 29
- 34:02through 34. And then cheated out of his,
- 34:06cheated him out of his blessing as the first born.
- 34:09That's in Genesis chapter 27, verses 35 through 36.
- 34:14Since that time, their descendants had been at odds.
- 34:19This ancient hostility kept the Edomites from coming to Israel's
- 34:23aid during the Babylonian invasion, and you wonder if that
- 34:29still perpetuates today. So anyway, these are things to
- 34:34consider, to think about. And that's the end of chapters
- 34:3834 and 35. If you got anything out of this,
- 34:44please subscribe. And if you feel like this would
