- 0:16Speaker 1: Welcome to jag zamkayd Downie Stevens he or Brian Sexton
- 0:18Speaker 1: John Osier with us this morning. After a trip out
- 0:21Speaker 1: west to Las Vegas and an eventful game that went
- 0:23Speaker 1: into overtime, Jaggs walked away with a win. Let's go
- 0:26Speaker 1: into our big things today, brought to you by GEAJ
- 0:28Speaker 1: Government Employee Health Association Benefits for federal employees and retirees.
- 0:33Speaker 1: Big think Number one is lucky Cats, because Brian, that
- 0:35Speaker 1: first half was not good football and there's a lot
- 0:38Speaker 1: of mistakes made, but some way, somehow did team walked
- 0:40Speaker 1: away with a win out of overtime.
- 0:42Speaker 2: Well, I'd rather be lucky than good, but in this case,
- 0:45Speaker 2: I think they were pretty good when they needed to be.
- 0:47Speaker 1: Kai.
- 0:47Speaker 2: I mean, the eighteen yard pass from Trevor Lawrence to
- 0:50Speaker 2: Parker Washington at the end of the half that set
- 0:52Speaker 2: up the record field goal was beautiful and it was
- 0:55Speaker 2: at a moment in the game where normally you're just
- 0:57Speaker 2: trying to find a way and I thought it was
- 0:59Speaker 2: a great It was very heads up of Parker to
- 1:02Speaker 2: put the ball down.
- 1:03Speaker 3: You know.
- 1:03Speaker 2: Then they went under score on their next six possessions,
- 1:06Speaker 2: and that doesn't happen very often. It certainly hasn't happened
- 1:08Speaker 2: often in Jaguars history. So they were lucky at the
- 1:12Speaker 2: end when Devon Hamilton saved the safety who should have
- 1:15Speaker 2: been deep and protecting against Tyler Lockett. But John I
- 1:18Speaker 2: tend to think that they were good.
- 1:20Speaker 3: Yeah, I think a lot of times in the NFL,
- 1:23Speaker 3: you're gonna have on a normal season six seven games
- 1:27Speaker 3: to come down to the wire, you have to put
- 1:30Speaker 3: you you have to play well enough to put yourself
- 1:32Speaker 3: in a position to get breaks at the end. And
- 1:34Speaker 3: then in the NFL a lot of things, you know,
- 1:36Speaker 3: it can go either way. Considering that they did exactly
- 1:41Speaker 3: what they didn't want to do early, which to make
- 1:43Speaker 3: a lot of mistakes and play like the old way
- 1:46Speaker 3: last couple of weeks. To come out and play that
- 1:50Speaker 3: well through the second half, I thought it was a
- 1:53Speaker 3: gutty impressive NFL win. Considering how beat up they were.
- 1:59Speaker 3: It felt like the end of Rocky right with both
- 2:01Speaker 3: teams were just which one and all of them and
- 2:06Speaker 3: then one of them had to get up and the
- 2:07Speaker 3: Jags got up.
- 2:08Speaker 2: Credit to him, and you do you have to win
- 2:11Speaker 2: games like this over the course of n NFL season
- 2:13Speaker 2: the best teams, the Chiefs and the Bills and the
- 2:15Speaker 2: Eagles and the Ravens. You know, go back and look
- 2:17Speaker 2: the last couple of years, they all win games like
- 2:19Speaker 2: this where people may question, well it's just a one
- 2:21Speaker 2: point game and you should have beaten them. But that's
- 2:23Speaker 2: the NFL.
- 2:25Speaker 4: Finding a way. Absolutely.
- 2:26Speaker 1: Second big thing today is going to be sick day
- 2:28Speaker 1: because I'm sure Trevor Lawrence would have appreciated this sick day.
- 2:31Speaker 1: He was sick all weekend, still found a way to
- 2:33Speaker 1: play the game. On Sunday, weim call and talked a
- 2:35Speaker 1: little bit about his performance.
- 2:38Speaker 5: It was awesome. I mean, I'm really proud of Trevor. Obviously,
- 2:41Speaker 5: he was little. He was thrown up all night, all morning,
- 2:46Speaker 5: you know, as pale as a ghost throughout the whole game,
- 2:48Speaker 5: and obviously started a little bit obviously the frustrating interception
- 2:52Speaker 5: down on the goal line. But man, I was I'm
- 2:54Speaker 5: very proud of the way he responded, the way that
- 2:57Speaker 5: he played, especially later on when the game really was
- 3:00Speaker 5: on the line, critical third down conversions, had the draw
- 3:04Speaker 5: that he walks in on. I mean, he competed his
- 3:07Speaker 5: tail off. Very proud of him.
- 3:10Speaker 1: John Trevor Lawrence was sick. I think Jordan Lewis went
- 3:12Speaker 1: out on the first or second play of the game.
- 3:14Speaker 1: They played through a lot, they had like one tight
- 3:17Speaker 1: end at one point they battled through well.
- 3:20Speaker 6: I laugh.
- 3:20Speaker 3: I got an email from readers so well Trevor did
- 3:22Speaker 3: look sick because he looked sick.
- 3:24Speaker 1: He was sick.
- 3:25Speaker 4: Like if Brian walked in looking like that, I say, man,
- 3:28Speaker 4: go home, what are you doing?
- 3:30Speaker 1: He?
- 3:32Speaker 4: I tell Brian go home.
- 3:33Speaker 1: Anyway, But.
- 3:36Speaker 3: It was impressive again two or three times this season.
- 3:41Speaker 3: Most teams you're going to get in a situation in
- 3:43Speaker 3: the second half where all of a sudden, you look
- 3:45Speaker 3: around and you're down at a position or two. And
- 3:49Speaker 3: I thought the receivers Austin Trammell, Tim Jones, these guys
- 3:52Speaker 3: weren't even on the active roster on Monday, and without.
- 3:56Speaker 4: Their two plays, I don't know that you win the game.
- 3:58Speaker 3: So in the NFL, after covering this league forever, you
- 4:02Speaker 3: sort of roll your eyes a little bit when you
- 4:04Speaker 3: hear next man up, and you okay, next man up,
- 4:07Speaker 3: this is going to be fun.
- 4:08Speaker 4: On Sunday. That was the story.
- 4:10Speaker 2: You know, I, like most people, just put my head
- 4:13Speaker 2: in my hands when he threw that interception. You know,
- 4:15Speaker 2: it's just like, oh boy, here we go. And I'm
- 4:18Speaker 2: not sure that what we witness was necessarily a Willis
- 4:20Speaker 2: Reid moment for all of those who are old enough
- 4:23Speaker 2: to remember the great Knicks moment when Willis Reid came
- 4:26Speaker 2: back onto the court. But I think in the locker room,
- 4:28Speaker 2: John and Kay, it might be seen as that because
- 4:31Speaker 2: you're talking about a guy that was throwing up on
- 4:33Speaker 2: Saturday night at the hotel, and on Sunday morning he
- 4:35Speaker 2: was sick, and his teammates saw their leader, the quarterback
- 4:40Speaker 2: who had made a critical mistake at the end of
- 4:43Speaker 2: a seventeen play, ten minute and twenty seven second drive,
- 4:47Speaker 2: pick himself up. As hard as that is when you're sick,
- 4:51Speaker 2: We've all been there. And then to play as well
- 4:53Speaker 2: as he did in the second half, it was huge.
- 4:56Speaker 2: I mean it was as big to me as getting
- 4:58Speaker 2: up off the ground and scoring again Kansas City on
- 5:00Speaker 2: Monday Night football. I think that his teammates will see
- 5:05Speaker 2: him in a renewed light as a guy that they
- 5:08Speaker 2: depend on.
- 5:09Speaker 4: I think that's fair.
- 5:10Speaker 1: You get credit for playing sick, but also playing well
- 5:13Speaker 1: even so and helping the team get a win. Our
- 5:15Speaker 1: final big thing is going to be record breakers. There
- 5:17Speaker 1: were two of them. Josh heinz Allen finally getting to
- 5:19Speaker 1: that franchise mark. He's tied right now and needs another
- 5:22Speaker 1: half sack or sack to.
- 5:23Speaker 4: Go above it.
- 5:24Speaker 1: But also Cam Little, he saw him take that seventy
- 5:26Speaker 1: yarder in the preseason. Now he has the official record
- 5:29Speaker 1: with the sixty eight yard field goal.
- 5:32Speaker 7: Like you're looking at it and I'm like, crap, this
- 5:34Speaker 7: is sixty eight yarder. And so yeah, you look at
- 5:37Speaker 7: it and it's like, you know, kick it straight enough,
- 5:40Speaker 7: kick it long enough, and it goes in. And it's simple,
- 5:42Speaker 7: simply put. We're playing indoors and we're on natural grass.
- 5:44Speaker 7: You kick it long enough and you kick it straight enough,
- 5:46Speaker 7: it's going to go in. And so Logan, me and
- 5:50Speaker 7: Logan kind of had like a one on one right
- 5:51Speaker 7: before the kick, and I said, it's ball as hard
- 5:53Speaker 7: as I can. And usually when I tell myself that,
- 5:56Speaker 7: I find success. So you know, it went out there
- 5:59Speaker 7: and just let it loose. I think that's why I
- 6:00Speaker 7: play my best.
- 6:02Speaker 1: Bran he didn't try to aim it, he said, he
- 6:03Speaker 1: just tried to kick it as far as he could.
- 6:05Speaker 1: What a way to bounce back after a couple of
- 6:07Speaker 1: weeks where people were saying maybe should bring in some
- 6:09Speaker 1: other kickers to challenge him, and he bounced back big time. Oo.
- 6:13Speaker 2: I think that's probably right. You just kick. How do
- 6:15Speaker 2: you aim from sixty eight yards away? That's a long way.
- 6:19Speaker 2: Patience is a virtue, but not in professional football, and
- 6:22Speaker 2: especially not when you have a team that's losing in
- 6:25Speaker 2: frustrating ways in back to back weeks. But when you
- 6:28Speaker 2: see talent John, when you recognize ability, you don't just say, well,
- 6:32Speaker 2: he couldn't do it today, he's got to leave. You
- 6:34Speaker 2: just work with it. And he's a young player. The
- 6:37Speaker 2: talent has been visible since the first time he kicked
- 6:39Speaker 2: a football on this practice field last year as a rookie.
- 6:43Speaker 2: You just calm down and you're patient because he has
- 6:46Speaker 2: extreme like strength, extreme kicking talent, and he's going to
- 6:51Speaker 2: win more games for the Jaguars than he's going to
- 6:53Speaker 2: cost them over the course of his career.
- 6:55Speaker 3: Yeah. I wasn't surprised when they stuck with and mainly
- 6:58Speaker 3: because he had missed two fifty yards. One of them
- 7:00Speaker 3: was at Wembley and the field there is different. It
- 7:04Speaker 3: was a difficult kick and it was fifty yards, which
- 7:06Speaker 3: are not gimmes. It's funny. When he lined up for
- 7:11Speaker 3: sixty eight, I thought he's gonna make this.
- 7:15Speaker 4: I mean it.
- 7:16Speaker 3: I've been expecting him to be not necessarily break the records.
- 7:20Speaker 3: I thought you never know circumstance, but I've been thinking
- 7:27Speaker 3: that it would not be unusual if he broke the
- 7:29Speaker 3: record in his first couple of years. So when he
- 7:32Speaker 3: did it, I tweeted out Cam did it. Good for
- 7:34Speaker 3: him because he has the leg strength. He hits him
- 7:37Speaker 3: all the time. I expect maybe by the end of
- 7:40Speaker 3: the season he'll hit from seventy and at that point
- 7:43Speaker 3: Kai he may not hold the NFL record.
- 7:46Speaker 1: It seems like it's just every week, like even last night.
- 7:48Speaker 1: I know the Dallas kicker had a chance at sixty
- 7:50Speaker 1: eight as well. So it seems like kickers are beyond
- 7:53Speaker 1: what we've ever seen before. So it's pretty cool. Stay
- 7:55Speaker 1: with us here on jag Zam. We're gonna go over
- 7:57Speaker 1: some highlights on Sunday against the Raiders.
- 8:03Speaker 4: Yeah expans.

- 8:07Speaker 1: Zip Chair is furniture for fans.
- 8:11Speaker 7: I mean I turned around. I heard them, you know,
- 8:13Speaker 7: I turned around.
- 8:14Speaker 5: The balls on the ground, jacksmine, I'm exausted.
- 8:19Speaker 1: I think Josh summed it up for most of us.
- 8:21Speaker 1: That was an exhausting game to watch at points, which
- 8:23Speaker 1: is the Dramatics and the cardiac Cats for sure.
- 8:25Speaker 2: Well, it was a fun game to watch, at least
- 8:26Speaker 2: in the fourth quarter.
- 8:27Speaker 1: Yes, let's look at some of the highlights. We'll start
- 8:30Speaker 1: out with the non highlight, just because that interception early on,
- 8:33Speaker 1: because that's kind of how the first half was going.
- 8:35Speaker 1: It was frustrating to watch if you were a Jags fan.
- 8:37Speaker 1: And then this one is just one of those ones
- 8:39Speaker 1: where Trevor let's it go and you're like why.
- 8:42Speaker 2: We get those kinds of mistakes and they happen on
- 8:46Speaker 2: a regular basis, maybe even every single game. But it's
- 8:50Speaker 2: his ability, as he showed us to come back from
- 8:53Speaker 2: that kind of mistake. That's that's a confident arm putting
- 8:57Speaker 2: the charge football in.
- 8:58Speaker 4: There, well, a confident ar. There was no way that
- 9:01Speaker 4: it was ever gonna work.
- 9:03Speaker 3: He was trying to get a dtn early and it
- 9:05Speaker 3: wasn't there, and then obviously he just droved the ball,
- 9:08Speaker 3: and again, as you said, Brian, it's it's it's usually
- 9:12Speaker 3: once a game with something like that, where you go,
- 9:14Speaker 3: what's he doing, But then so often this season he's made.
- 9:17Speaker 4: Up for it with with gutty grit, which is what
- 9:20Speaker 4: we're about to see.
- 9:20Speaker 1: Let's take another look at this kick, because John, you
- 9:23Speaker 1: mentioned when we were sitting at each other in the
- 9:25Speaker 1: press box, he lined up. You're like, oh, yeah, he's
- 9:27Speaker 1: gonna make this because I mean, I had I had
- 9:30Speaker 1: no doubt their indoors with the way it was going,
- 9:33Speaker 1: and also how much they needed it at that point
- 9:35Speaker 1: in the game.
- 9:35Speaker 3: Well, and that's sort of the thing that I think
- 9:39Speaker 3: was cool for everybody was when he made it. I
- 9:43Speaker 3: got to admit, after watching the first half, I was like, well, okay,
- 9:46Speaker 3: I'll be writing about this because I'm not writing about
- 9:49Speaker 3: the game because it's you didn't feel like they were
- 9:52Speaker 3: gonna get anything going. But the fact that it got
- 9:55Speaker 3: them going, I think made it meaningful for everybody.
- 9:58Speaker 4: And again, he.
- 10:00Speaker 3: He does this so consistently that I wrote several times
- 10:06Speaker 3: last year that I expected to break the record at
- 10:07Speaker 3: some point and probably hit from seventy before the end
- 10:10Speaker 3: of the season.
- 10:11Speaker 4: So pretty smart.
- 10:13Speaker 2: Yeah, all you just ask you.
- 10:15Speaker 4: I was the only guy saying that, Oh sure, I
- 10:17Speaker 4: thought that.
- 10:18Speaker 2: It would be good indoors because he has the leg strength.
- 10:23Speaker 2: But I wasn't sure until I saw Logan Cook's hands
- 10:26Speaker 2: go up, which I thought was cool immediately. And halfway
- 10:28Speaker 2: through that and they're showing the end zone view and
- 10:31Speaker 2: his hands go up. That amazing.
- 10:33Speaker 1: He knows better than I, so absolutely, And it's also
- 10:35Speaker 1: just really cool. I mean, we've talked about this before
- 10:37Speaker 1: because kickers can kind of be their own little thing
- 10:39Speaker 1: and the specialists can kind of have their own thing
- 10:41Speaker 1: going on. But they all embrace him so much, even
- 10:43Speaker 1: when it's you know, in the preseason even people were
- 10:45Speaker 1: freaking out, So it's kind of cool to see the
- 10:47Speaker 1: whole team embrace.
- 10:48Speaker 4: Him as much as they do well.
- 10:50Speaker 2: And it was cool to see the coach be the
- 10:51Speaker 2: first one out there doing that great big bear hug.
- 10:54Speaker 2: I mean especially and then afterwards in the post game
- 10:57Speaker 2: press conference to talk about people wanted me to to
- 11:00Speaker 2: question him and give up on him, and you just
- 11:03Speaker 2: you don't give up on talent.
- 11:04Speaker 1: Like that, especially young talent like that. Let's look at
- 11:07Speaker 1: one of Trevor's rushing touchdowns early on. After the second half,
- 11:10Speaker 1: they came out inspired a little bit by the kick
- 11:13Speaker 1: and got some scoring going early, which they needed and
- 11:16Speaker 1: wasn't always there with the offense obviously, the kinds of
- 11:18Speaker 1: changes to the game plan with all the injuries and
- 11:21Speaker 1: you know, Travis Hunter going down earlier this week, but
- 11:23Speaker 1: he made it happen with his legs and kind of
- 11:24Speaker 1: got it going a little bit there, Trevor did at
- 11:28Speaker 1: that point in the second half.
- 11:29Speaker 6: Well, they were you know, I thought it was a
- 11:33Speaker 6: good coaching job by Liam and just by all the players.
- 11:36Speaker 6: You could tell for the first you know, half three quarters,
- 11:41Speaker 6: they were just trying to find something that worked. As
- 11:45Speaker 6: Trevor said, stuff was working, and then they weren't getting
- 11:48Speaker 6: at home, so they were just trying to figure out
- 11:50Speaker 6: a way to get in the end zone.
- 11:51Speaker 4: And you know, they found it here.
- 11:55Speaker 3: Trevor's legs are a weapon as long as they're not overused, and.
- 11:59Speaker 4: I thought they used him in the right spot here.
- 12:01Speaker 2: I'm not sure how much he wants to run after
- 12:03Speaker 2: the injuries the last couple of years. I mean, listen,
- 12:05Speaker 2: I'm not sure how much they want him right well,
- 12:08Speaker 2: not too much, but the threat of him running changed
- 12:11Speaker 2: the way that the Raiders approached him the rest of
- 12:15Speaker 2: the way. The threat of him getting out of the
- 12:17Speaker 2: pocket and going so four or five times a game
- 12:20Speaker 2: in a very controlled setting right as best you can
- 12:25Speaker 2: let him loose and let him go because just the
- 12:27Speaker 2: threat of that six foot six frame it's moving towards
- 12:31Speaker 2: the goal line. You could tell that it made a difference.
- 12:33Speaker 3: And important to note there is what we're both saying.
- 12:37Speaker 3: I get emails all the time, why doesn't he run more?
- 12:39Speaker 3: Because he finished the last two seasons, you know, carrying
- 12:43Speaker 3: him right away. He's not a running quarterback that you
- 12:48Speaker 3: build that around, but he does need the threat of.
- 12:51Speaker 2: Well well, and you just look at Lamar Jackson right
- 12:52Speaker 2: who has had the hamstring injury. He's a guy who
- 12:54Speaker 2: can move and get out, but doesn't want to. He
- 12:58Speaker 2: wants to stay in the pocket as much as possible
- 13:01Speaker 2: because he understands the beating that you take when you're
- 13:03Speaker 2: in the open field, it's not going to be sustainable
- 13:05Speaker 2: for the long term.
- 13:06Speaker 1: I think Trevor did a really good job of running
- 13:08Speaker 1: just enough without taking it out of the game plan
- 13:11Speaker 1: where he just felt like he had to run every time,
- 13:12Speaker 1: So he did a good job. Let's take a look
- 13:14Speaker 1: at rock Bauer's second touchdown on the day. He had
- 13:16Speaker 1: three on the day. He is tremendous. We saw it
- 13:20Speaker 1: last year when they played this team, but he had
- 13:22Speaker 1: them and fits on defense trying to cover him every day.
- 13:25Speaker 2: I'm not sure that there's anybody that could cover him.
- 13:28Speaker 3: I mean on that play, some of the other ones,
- 13:31Speaker 3: or that was special that I'm not sure anybody in
- 13:34Speaker 3: league stops that point.
- 13:35Speaker 2: No, but listen his size, his length, his quickness, the
- 13:41Speaker 2: way that he drops his hips and pivots like a
- 13:44Speaker 2: wide receiver. I mean, for such a big guy, he's
- 13:47Speaker 2: a tough matchup. I mean, think about anybody in the league.
- 13:49Speaker 2: You go, oh, we'll put him on him. I mean,
- 13:51Speaker 2: if you had Travis Hunter, I think you would have tried.
- 13:53Speaker 4: Yeah.
- 13:54Speaker 3: Yeah, this is a young athlete who's in his prime.
- 13:57Speaker 3: Kelsey gets open by savvy by knowing had to find zones, etc.
- 14:02Speaker 3: This kid is like guy came down and said, you're
- 14:05Speaker 3: gonna be a tight end.
- 14:06Speaker 2: Well, he has that little savvy sense about him like
- 14:09Speaker 2: Travis Kelsey does.
- 14:10Speaker 4: So he is.
- 14:12Speaker 2: He is tremendous and he's gonna get his Yeah, if
- 14:14Speaker 2: he can stay healthy.
- 14:15Speaker 1: He's going to be absolutely up there in the record books.
- 14:17Speaker 1: I am sure. Let's look at some of this overtime action.
- 14:20Speaker 1: Austin Trammell who got called up from the practice squad
- 14:23Speaker 1: with a kick return putting them in good position in
- 14:26Speaker 1: ot And you know, I think we all have some
- 14:28Speaker 1: flashbacks of tramble kick return last year when they called
- 14:31Speaker 1: him up. But he rose to the moment in this
- 14:33Speaker 1: in this moment here.
- 14:34Speaker 3: Yeah, I don't know Austin very well, but or at all.
- 14:39Speaker 3: I was happy for him because it's just what he said.
- 14:41Speaker 1: Guy.
- 14:42Speaker 3: Last year he had the most circumstantially weird season fas
- 14:45Speaker 3: we have one play fumble, right, so to continue to grind,
- 14:50Speaker 3: he probably earned a chance to make the team during
- 14:53Speaker 3: training camp.
- 14:53Speaker 4: He played that well and it's been a different direction.
- 14:56Speaker 4: So good for him.
- 14:58Speaker 3: And one of the it is hidden plays Brian that
- 15:01Speaker 3: you don't think about necessari at the end of the season.
- 15:03Speaker 4: But I'm not say they win that game without this playoff,
- 15:05Speaker 4: Oh no, I.
- 15:06Speaker 2: Don't think they do. And he is a guy that
- 15:08Speaker 2: you're always thinking, well, we're replacing he's undrafted, he landed
- 15:12Speaker 2: on your team as a free agent. Every year he's
- 15:15Speaker 2: on your practice squad, but I think he keeps earning
- 15:18Speaker 2: more and more looks. And the punt return in Philadelphia
- 15:21Speaker 2: was unfortunate. He more than made up for it here.
- 15:23Speaker 2: And I'm telling you now he's going to have to
- 15:25Speaker 2: play a role as a wide receiver the next couple
- 15:28Speaker 2: of weeks with the Jaguars as beat up with Diammy
- 15:30Speaker 2: Brown and Brian Thomas Junior at Travis hunter On is
- 15:34Speaker 2: your reserve. And I'm gonna say it right now, I
- 15:36Speaker 2: think he is going to make more plays with the.
- 15:40Speaker 3: Way the league structure now. I always say during August,
- 15:43Speaker 3: every ask him what's going to be the fifty three?
- 15:44Speaker 3: I said, you can't think of it as a fifty
- 15:47Speaker 3: three anymore. You have a sixteen player practice squad, and
- 15:49Speaker 3: the reality is to function in the NFL right now,
- 15:52Speaker 3: you've got to have guys on your practice squad like
- 15:55Speaker 3: him waiting who are really part of your team.
- 15:57Speaker 4: So it's really a sixty He won sixty two man
- 16:00Speaker 4: roster these days.
- 16:01Speaker 2: He may not have blazing speed, but if you watch him,
- 16:03Speaker 2: he is really athletic. He can change directions on a dime.
- 16:07Speaker 2: He's got suddenness about him, He's crafty, he's a Wes
- 16:11Speaker 2: Welker kind of guy, and perhaps they can find a
- 16:14Speaker 2: role for him going forward.
- 16:16Speaker 1: Let's take a look at these final two plays of
- 16:17Speaker 1: the game, because right down to the wire, as they do,
- 16:21Speaker 1: the Raiders have an opportunity. They find brock Bowers again
- 16:25Speaker 1: for the third time of the day, in the back
- 16:26Speaker 1: of the end zone and they're going for two. And
- 16:28Speaker 1: I thank them for that because I didn't want to
- 16:30Speaker 1: tie myself so eat away. It was going to be
- 16:32Speaker 1: some sort of outcome to this game. And then Gino Smith,
- 16:36Speaker 1: who had time the locket open, doesn't get it to
- 16:39Speaker 1: him because Von Hamilton's big mits were up there and
- 16:41Speaker 1: knock the ball down.
- 16:44Speaker 2: I'm just gonna say, in hot takes coming up, I
- 16:47Speaker 2: point to the fact that on those two plays that
- 16:49Speaker 2: you just talked about, the touchdown and the two point conversion,
- 16:53Speaker 2: they went right towards the safety open. Yeah, they had
- 16:55Speaker 2: people open, and they went right at the Jaguar cities.
- 16:58Speaker 4: So now he get a break, and so we talked
- 17:01Speaker 4: about that a little bit.
- 17:02Speaker 3: I'll go a different direction here, not to be boring,
- 17:05Speaker 3: but really impressive in overtime, eight straight runs to get
- 17:08Speaker 3: in the end zone.
- 17:09Speaker 4: I thought it was really impressive how.
- 17:11Speaker 3: They figured out with the receivers out how they had
- 17:16Speaker 3: to win this game, and they stuck with the run enough.
- 17:20Speaker 3: I think what we saw in overtime offensively, if they
- 17:23Speaker 3: can get through the next couple of weeks, I think
- 17:25Speaker 3: that's how they're going to do it. With all the injuries,
- 17:28Speaker 3: they may have found a key to trying to navigate
- 17:30Speaker 3: this next stretch.
- 17:31Speaker 2: We talked last week in the locker room with the
- 17:32Speaker 2: players about toughness, about returning to that physical style of
- 17:35Speaker 2: play that they had early. Did that drive convince you
- 17:39Speaker 2: that they have rediscovered the style of play that they
- 17:43Speaker 2: had early that helped them get to form one.
- 17:45Speaker 3: Well, I think that's what they want to be I
- 17:47Speaker 3: think with this team right now my senses. I don't
- 17:50Speaker 3: know if everybody says, well, if they did that, wasn't
- 17:53Speaker 3: you Why don't they just do that the whole game?
- 17:55Speaker 4: I think that's difficult because you've.
- 17:57Speaker 3: Got to wear teams down and get to where you
- 18:00Speaker 3: can do that. Uh, But I think they'll game plan
- 18:03Speaker 3: to try to get to that point where they can.
- 18:05Speaker 4: Use that late in the game. It'll be interesting to
- 18:07Speaker 4: see the creatients and diligence.
- 18:08Speaker 3: Yeah.
- 18:09Speaker 2: Yeah, it's It's be interesting this week guy, to see
- 18:11Speaker 2: if they can do it against an excellent defense in Houston,
- 18:14Speaker 2: one of the very best in the league with Ezra
- 18:16Speaker 2: Cleveland on the injury report.
- 18:17Speaker 4: Yeah, it's a tougher.
- 18:18Speaker 1: Task and a team that knows you very well in
- 18:20Speaker 1: the division with the Texans. Stay with us after the break,
- 18:22Speaker 1: we'll tell you our hot takes from from this week.
- 18:30Speaker 1: Jagg xam brought to you by Firehouse Subs and also
- 18:33Speaker 1: bringing hot takes today as well.
- 18:37Speaker 2: Uh, which we got tired of being myselves, I guess. Uh,
- 18:39Speaker 2: we just locked into the game.
- 18:41Speaker 1: You know, we got locked on it earlier.
- 18:42Speaker 3: Uh be better than the.
- 18:44Speaker 7: Residents, especially earlier in the game, even when you put.
- 18:46Speaker 3: Ourselves in those positions late in the game. But just
- 18:48Speaker 3: probably the way that we caught where we responded and
- 18:50Speaker 3: when we came.
- 18:51Speaker 1: On the second half so easy and played well as
- 18:54Speaker 1: uh setting up that touchdown and overtime and just overall
- 18:58Speaker 1: some big plays throughout the game and consistent, which is
- 19:01Speaker 1: nice to see when they get him involved a little
- 19:03Speaker 1: bit more.
- 19:03Speaker 3: Yeah, and I'll go first on the hot takes because
- 19:05Speaker 3: I can sort of work Travis into this. Who I thought,
- 19:08Speaker 3: by the way, I know he's had bigger yardage games.
- 19:12Speaker 3: I don't know what his future with the team is,
- 19:15Speaker 3: contract whatever. When he leaves here, I'll think of this
- 19:18Speaker 3: game with him because he was a different I don't
- 19:22Speaker 3: think he would have had this game as first year playing.
- 19:25Speaker 3: He was knocking off guys. He was playing as tough
- 19:29Speaker 3: and physical. He was playing like a fullback, which I
- 19:32Speaker 3: was remarkable. So my take is, embrace these cats, and
- 19:37Speaker 3: I think Travis are gonna be a big part of this.
- 19:39Speaker 4: I don't think they're gonna be pretty certainly with the
- 19:42Speaker 4: injuries the.
- 19:43Speaker 3: Next few weeks, I think they're going to have to
- 19:46Speaker 3: sort of walk wounded through this thing, play some games
- 19:50Speaker 3: like they did the other day. I think if you
- 19:52Speaker 3: can get through this next stretch sort of keeping your
- 19:55Speaker 3: head above water, I think you're in good shape for
- 19:58Speaker 3: the end of the season.
- 19:59Speaker 4: But I think they could give you some great memories
- 20:03Speaker 4: this year with possible postseason run. You're not gonna love
- 20:08Speaker 4: it every week.
- 20:09Speaker 3: You're gonna be frustrated if you're a fan thinking is
- 20:12Speaker 3: Lea's supposed to be about seventeen point blowouts. But I
- 20:15Speaker 3: think they're gonna be a team that you can kind
- 20:17Speaker 3: of hug at the end of the season and go guys,
- 20:19Speaker 3: that was fun.
- 20:20Speaker 2: So what team does that remind you of Jaguars history?
- 20:24Speaker 2: The great ninety six team that there was four and
- 20:27Speaker 2: seven and they won by bouncing the ball off the
- 20:29Speaker 2: uprights and crazy things like that and a missed field
- 20:33Speaker 2: goal by Morton Anderson. And it's just it's the most
- 20:36Speaker 2: fun season in Jaguars history. And so if what you
- 20:39Speaker 2: say is true, then buckle up because it could be
- 20:42Speaker 2: a great ride.
- 20:43Speaker 4: Yeah, because again, the inbox is amazing.
- 20:49Speaker 1: It was.
- 20:50Speaker 3: It was just chaos in the first half and even
- 20:54Speaker 3: after the game, you know they're frustrating guys. This is
- 20:58Speaker 3: the NFL, I mean frustrating wins or how you get
- 21:02Speaker 3: into the postseason.
- 21:03Speaker 2: And it was a fun win. I mean it was
- 21:05Speaker 2: ugly as it may have seen. By the way Etn
- 21:09Speaker 2: I think has reinvented himself this year. Yeah, underneath Liam
- 21:14Speaker 2: Cohen and the way I wouldn't have I wouldn't seen
- 21:17Speaker 2: him with the tough running between the tackles. We didn't
- 21:20Speaker 2: see it last year. So credit to him. He's as
- 21:23Speaker 2: fun a player as there is to watch it right now.
- 21:25Speaker 2: He's your best player on offense.
- 21:27Speaker 3: Yeah, I mean the stat is what yack yards after contact.
- 21:31Speaker 3: His is like yeaf yards after violent contact because he
- 21:35Speaker 3: I mean he was getting hit hard and still getting yaft.
- 21:38Speaker 2: Yards in earlier career.
- 21:40Speaker 4: He put on the sideline next generation.
- 21:42Speaker 2: Yes, you were saying earlier how smart you are?
- 21:44Speaker 4: Well, well, I don't need to say. People know.
- 21:47Speaker 1: People know I'm gonna go next because this leads into
- 21:50Speaker 1: what my hot take is. John, thank you for setting
- 21:53Speaker 1: up how wonderful Etn played, because mine has run the
- 21:56Speaker 1: damn ball. We talked every week about how we want
- 21:58Speaker 1: the wide receivers to get involved. We thought was this
- 22:01Speaker 1: team was going to be in the preseason and what
- 22:03Speaker 1: they look like right now. Iam Cullen came in here
- 22:06Speaker 1: and said, we need to establish the run if we
- 22:07Speaker 1: want to do anything on offense. That is how they
- 22:09Speaker 1: win football games. That's just their identity at this point.
- 22:12Speaker 1: That's the way it's going to be and they need
- 22:14Speaker 1: to do that. And that includes Trevor Lawrence running a
- 22:16Speaker 1: little bit, which we think. I think he did the
- 22:18Speaker 1: best version of that against the Raiders where he ran
- 22:22Speaker 1: just enough, but he still was focused on throwing the football.
- 22:25Speaker 1: Travis Etn is having a renaissance. Toot and when he
- 22:28Speaker 1: gets the ball, I think he can be good as well.
- 22:30Speaker 1: And then also the Quinn Allen is out there. I
- 22:32Speaker 1: just get the running backs involved as much as you
- 22:34Speaker 1: possibly can. That's the recipe at this point.
- 22:37Speaker 2: Man, You're going to love Sunday then, because with as
- 22:40Speaker 2: many receivers as are banged up in that great pass
- 22:42Speaker 2: rush that Houston has with Will Anderson and Daniel Hunter,
- 22:46Speaker 2: you better be able to run the ball this week
- 22:47Speaker 2: and run it and run it and run it. You
- 22:50Speaker 2: have got to use the run to set up any
- 22:52Speaker 2: sort of passing game that you expect to have.
- 22:54Speaker 3: Yeah, it's funny. I saw that graphic. I'm thinking if
- 22:56Speaker 3: Liam says that he's going to be like, I get it,
- 22:58Speaker 3: I mean I'm trying to run the ball. And by that,
- 23:02Speaker 3: I mean it's hard in this league right now to
- 23:05Speaker 3: come out the way this offense is structured and just
- 23:08Speaker 3: run eight straight plays at the beginning of the game.
- 23:11Speaker 3: You have to get to it. You have to stay
- 23:14Speaker 3: with it while you're trying other things. Keep sort of punching.
- 23:17Speaker 3: It's almost like you're doing this and you kind of
- 23:19Speaker 3: going this underneath and get to it. In the second half.
- 23:23Speaker 3: This team needs to stay close enough and establish it
- 23:25Speaker 3: in the first half where they can have the wear
- 23:28Speaker 3: down effect that they had the other day, because that's
- 23:30Speaker 3: exactly how they want to do. They would have loved
- 23:32Speaker 3: to have done that against Seattle and especially the Rams,
- 23:35Speaker 3: but you can't do it when you're down fourteen twenty
- 23:37Speaker 3: one to seven. So they need the circumstances to allow
- 23:41Speaker 3: them to run the damn ball.
- 23:43Speaker 2: I'll finish it up then with better safety than sorry.
- 23:46Speaker 2: As we sit here right now, Tony Piselli, James Gladstone,
- 23:49Speaker 2: Lie and Cohen are engaged with the trade market. They
- 23:53Speaker 2: are investigating. Who knows whether they will find because it
- 23:56Speaker 2: takes two sides to make a deal and it has
- 23:59Speaker 2: to be a good one. But listen, you saw those
- 24:00Speaker 2: two plays at the end of overtime. They went right
- 24:04Speaker 2: at Dewey, they went right at Antonio Johnson. The safeties
- 24:08Speaker 2: that the Jaguars and Visions starting the season with aren't injured.
- 24:11Speaker 2: Reserve tayleab brand'sa always supposed to be on the field,
- 24:13Speaker 2: same with Eric Murray, and they're playing with two guys
- 24:16Speaker 2: that they would rather have coming in in situations. I
- 24:20Speaker 2: don't know who the right guy is. I mean, micka
- 24:21Speaker 2: Fin Patrick. His name has been floated out of Miami.
- 24:24Speaker 2: I don't know who fits the scheme that Anthony Campanelli
- 24:26Speaker 2: wants to run. I don't know who makes sense from
- 24:28Speaker 2: a salary perspective. But you can talk about tight end,
- 24:32Speaker 2: you can talk about wide receiver, you can talk about
- 24:35Speaker 2: defensive tackle all you want. I think the most glaring
- 24:38Speaker 2: issue the Jaguars face as we sit here right now
- 24:41Speaker 2: with the trade deadline coming up at four o'clock Eastern time,
- 24:44Speaker 2: is a safety. Maybe it's post traumatic stress from last
- 24:47Speaker 2: season where they gave up all those big plays. But
- 24:50Speaker 2: I'm telling you, and you see this for yourself. They're
- 24:53Speaker 2: attacking the Jaguars safeties. They need help, better safety than sorry.
- 24:59Speaker 1: Hope help is coming. I don't know for this.
- 25:01Speaker 4: Yeah, we'll see. I mean it's it can be tricky.
- 25:04Speaker 3: And if they can't get that, then they got to
- 25:06Speaker 3: get more pass rush because you can't have time to
- 25:08Speaker 3: attack those guys.
- 25:09Speaker 1: All right, Trade deadlines at four will have updates on
- 25:11Speaker 1: that for you tomorrow. But stay with us here we'll
- 25:13Speaker 1: tell you what's coming up the rest of the week.
- 25:24Speaker 1: Jaggs fans, you're invited to the official dou Baal watch party.
- 25:26Speaker 1: Presented by uf Health be at the Bank as the
- 25:29Speaker 1: Jaguars take on the Texans on November ninth. Attendance is free.
- 25:32Speaker 1: Take if they're limited, secure your spot, visit Jaguars dot
- 25:34Speaker 1: com Slash watch party.
- 25:42Speaker 2: God real quick.
- 25:43Speaker 8: Okay, so many dudes stepped up today. So many guys
- 25:47Speaker 8: stepped up today. Unbelievable job Devon Hamilton, end the game,
- 25:58Speaker 8: tig down and tie in the Franchi. How about our
- 26:05Speaker 8: quarterback man online running unbelievable. Hey, that's the NFL football win.
- 26:18Speaker 8: That's called responding.
- 26:21Speaker 1: It's an NFL football win. And I will say that's
- 26:25Speaker 1: the cleanest version of that we've ever seen those. And
- 26:29Speaker 1: he's all us, guess we'll harm but there we go.
- 26:32Speaker 4: I think he was too tired.
- 26:33Speaker 2: Yeah, I think they've got You think about coaches with tenure,
- 26:37Speaker 2: I mean, I think they've got there, Mike Tomlin, I
- 26:39Speaker 2: think they've got their John Harbaugh. I mean Bill Cower.
- 26:42Speaker 2: You know, you think of those guys who are in
- 26:43Speaker 2: one place for a long period of time. And it's
- 26:46Speaker 2: hard to watch his team, which is five and three
- 26:49Speaker 2: after eight games, right, but also to listen to him
- 26:52Speaker 2: and to see the way that he connects personally with
- 26:55Speaker 2: these guys and the way they responding him and not
- 26:57Speaker 2: think he's going to be your while and he's going
- 27:02Speaker 2: to be that guy that they've been hoping to have
- 27:04Speaker 2: here gosh forever.
- 27:08Speaker 3: Yeah, I think people, you know, you have so many
- 27:11Speaker 3: people who analyze the NFL, and they talk about play
- 27:13Speaker 3: calling and x'es and o's and personnel and it all matters.
- 27:16Speaker 3: But the one overlooked thing I think sometimes is belief
- 27:20Speaker 3: in direction of the franchise. Where you don't have guys going, hey,
- 27:23Speaker 3: this shouldn't be going this year, right, everybody believes this
- 27:26Speaker 3: is the direction. When you're pulling together and everybody believes
- 27:30Speaker 3: in it, it makes a lot of difference.
- 27:32Speaker 2: In close games, and it's hard to find that guy,
- 27:34Speaker 2: you know, that fits the city and the owner and
- 27:37Speaker 2: all of that, as evidenced by the fact that since
- 27:41Speaker 2: Tom Kauflin, I mean, they've gone through, you know, six
- 27:43Speaker 2: other coaches and they finally, you know, the eighth version
- 27:46Speaker 2: of Jaguars head coach turns out to be that guy
- 27:50Speaker 2: good for good for con and what he did to
- 27:53Speaker 2: pull the thing back from the edge last year and
- 27:57Speaker 2: to make the changes pretty good fit.
- 27:59Speaker 1: As we mentioned, it's the try a deadline today, so
- 28:01Speaker 1: we'll have the details for you tomorrow morning if anything
- 28:03Speaker 1: goes down at all with that, and we'll be back
- 28:05Speaker 1: here on Jack's Am. We'll see then
