- 0:00SPEAKER_00: On this episode of the Tailgate podcast, we are proud to announce our new sponsor, Def Charts, the most innovative site to track player movements, ratings, where those NFL players stack up on their own teams.
- 0:14SPEAKER_00: And they also have some pretty awesome custom team merch.
- 0:18SPEAKER_00: I like to think of it as a PFF meeting our lads, but with a little bit more depth.
- 0:24SPEAKER_00: Check them out at def dash charts dot com or deaf underscore charts on Twitter and Instagram.
- 1:02SPEAKER_00: I am your host, Cameron Clark, and this is a special dual college football and NFL podcast here on the Tailgate.
- 1:11SPEAKER_00: I'm going to go through all of my college football reactions to week seven, our picks for week eight, and then we will switch over to the NFL and do our week six recap with our week seven tail, the tailgate picks.
- 1:25SPEAKER_00: Let's get to it.
- 1:26SPEAKER_00: So let's start out in college football.
- 1:29SPEAKER_00: Uh, this was the week of the upsets.
- 1:32SPEAKER_00: We saw upsets in the Big Ten, in the Big 12, in the SEC all day long on Saturday.
- 1:39SPEAKER_00: So let's get through them one by one.
- 1:41SPEAKER_00: The biggest one of the day, the biggest ranked matchup.
- 1:44SPEAKER_00: Two top five teams met in Bloomington, Indiana, Ohio State and Indiana.
- 1:50SPEAKER_00: Ohio State was able to squeak out a win.
- 1:53SPEAKER_00: Indiana looked like they were able maybe going to be able to take the lead in the waning seconds of the game, but Nick Marsh was unable to get his second uh his lead foot down in bounds, and his second foot kind of dragged across the sidelines.
- 2:09SPEAKER_00: And as time expires, Indiana went from thinking they maybe pulled off a miraculous comeback to losing a game to Ohio State 19 to 15.
- 2:19SPEAKER_00: So Ohio State improves to 6-1.
- 2:22SPEAKER_00: Indiana falls to 6-1, their first loss of the season.
- 2:26SPEAKER_00: But that's not really even the big story to take away from this game.
- 2:29SPEAKER_00: The big story here is the fact that Ohio State quarterback Julian Saiyan left this game.
- 2:34SPEAKER_00: He was replaced by um backup quarterback Luke Fehey on Ohio State's uh backup quarterback room.
- 2:43SPEAKER_00: And Fey didn't really do much.
- 2:46SPEAKER_00: He wasn't asked to do much at the end of this game.
- 2:48SPEAKER_00: He was 0 for 2, um, had a couple negative rushes in this game, but wasn't really asked to do a whole lot on those last couple possessions for Ohio State.
- 2:58SPEAKER_00: They really leaned into the run and just tried to get out of Bloomington with a win, which they did.
- 3:03SPEAKER_00: Um, right after the game, Ryan Day in his post-game press conference said he expected Julian Saiyan would be out for a couple of weeks, is what he said right after the game.
- 3:14SPEAKER_00: And then it turned out that that couple of weeks turned into the rest of the season.
- 3:19SPEAKER_00: So that is a major blow to Ohio State's playoff hopes, to the Big Ten's uh playoff hopes for getting a ton of teams into the playoff race.
- 3:30SPEAKER_00: And it really reopens the door for other Big Ten competitors.
- 3:34SPEAKER_00: Uh, I think immediately of USC, they come to mind.
- 3:38SPEAKER_00: Um, I think Oregon is pretty much out of this conversation completely now.
- 3:44SPEAKER_00: But obviously, Indiana, despite losing this game, you almost feel like they come out ahead of Ohio State, even though they lost.
- 3:52SPEAKER_00: The fact that Ohio State lost their quarterback and they have the same record moving forward.
- 3:58SPEAKER_00: This seems like a huge advantage now for Kurt Signetti's uh Hoosiers ball club there.
- 4:04SPEAKER_00: Um, some highlight performances from this game.
- 4:06SPEAKER_00: Obviously, we mentioned saying he kind of struggled at different points.
- 4:10SPEAKER_00: Josh Hoover, I thought, in the second half was was really, really impressive.
- 4:15SPEAKER_00: Um, he made some really good throws.
- 4:17SPEAKER_00: He had 296 yards.
- 4:19SPEAKER_00: Charlie Becker is just an absolute difference maker for Indiana.
- 4:23SPEAKER_00: He had nine catches for 165 yards.
- 4:26SPEAKER_00: He doesn't get enough credit.
- 4:28SPEAKER_00: He is very, very underrated as a playmaking receiver.
- 4:32SPEAKER_00: Um, but Ohio State in Indiana wasn't the only big game on Saturday.
- 4:36SPEAKER_00: So we'll move on to Notre Dame in BYU, which was the site of College Game Day, a religious war between Catholics and Mormons that we saw take place in Provo, Utah, the divine destination of the Mormon church, which is Provo, Utah.
- 4:53SPEAKER_00: BYU and the waning seconds of this game look like they might give up a game-winning touchdown to Notre Dame.
- 5:01SPEAKER_00: And a little bit of controversy swirled around the end of this.
- 5:05SPEAKER_00: Notre Dame gets all the way down to the field, uh, all the way down to the red zone, excuse me, at the end of the game.
- 5:11SPEAKER_00: And I I believe they got all the way down to uh the the eight-yard line um on their last play.
- 5:18SPEAKER_00: They they got a fourth and five conversion down to the eight-yard line with about four seconds left.
- 5:23SPEAKER_00: And on the last play that occurred during regulation, CJ Carr threw a kind of a fade jump ball into the corner of the short side of the end zone to Jaden Greathouse.
- 5:36SPEAKER_00: And when that ball came down, it was kind of the opposite of what we saw in the Western Michigan, Michigan game from week one, where it looked like there should have been a second left on the clock.
- 5:47SPEAKER_00: And BYU and those officials inside of Provo, Utah were calling it Manifest Destiny, and they decided that that game was over.
- 5:56SPEAKER_00: There would be no final attempt for CJ Carr in the fighting Irish, but a very, very entertaining game in Provo.
- 6:04SPEAKER_00: Uh, a huge win for Kalani Satake and the BYU Cougars.
- 6:09SPEAKER_00: Bear Bachmeyer is an absolute gamer.
- 6:11SPEAKER_00: He had 45 rushing yards, two rushing touchdowns.
- 6:14SPEAKER_00: He chipped in 224 passing yards and a passing touchdown as well.
- 6:21SPEAKER_00: Really impressive performances from a lot of their young guys.
- 6:24SPEAKER_00: Legend Glasker, that guy is a stud at the receiver position, kind of more of a gadget player, really, than a receiver.
- 6:32SPEAKER_00: But BYU is so versatile and they are so physical on defense.
- 6:37SPEAKER_00: Um, they had three tackles for loss in this game, seven pass breakups.
- 6:42SPEAKER_00: Um, a lot of guys, I mean, even Glasker's uh twin brother, Isaiah Glasker, had three pass deflections as well in this game.
- 6:51SPEAKER_00: Like I said, a very entertaining game.
- 6:54SPEAKER_00: I do not think that this immediately nixes any chances for Notre Dame to make it to the playoff.
- 7:00SPEAKER_00: But if they lose that game that they have coming up against Miami in a couple weeks, that may change because that is their real only opportunity to beat a quality opponent with the way that Notre Dame's schedule is set up.
- 7:14SPEAKER_00: And then on the BYU side, what I think this really does, we obviously see them move up in the rankings after this game from eight where they were heading into this game all the way up to number two in the AP poll heading into week eight.
- 7:28SPEAKER_00: And my big takeaway here is that this means for BYU that they do not have to win the Big 12 for them to get into the college football playoff.
- 7:37SPEAKER_00: If BYU finishes, you know, 11 and 1, maybe 10 and 2, there's still a really good opportunity for BYU to make it into the college football playoff because they have one of the best wins other than maybe Texas.
- 7:51SPEAKER_00: And Texas, we will get to in a second, is spiraling right now.
- 7:55SPEAKER_00: So the fact that BYU has this win to put onto their resume is huge for the Cougars moving forward.
- 8:01SPEAKER_00: Uh, but a really great game, entertaining game, and a tough loss there for Notre Dame in Provo.
- 8:08SPEAKER_00: Uh, but we're gonna keep the train rolling.
- 8:10SPEAKER_00: There were upsets all day long.
- 8:12SPEAKER_00: Let's move over to Knoxville, Tennessee, where the 14th-ranked volunteers hosted the number six ranked Alabama Crimson tide, fresh off of their loss to Georgia, Alabama, rolled over and and really kind of got dominated in this game by Tennessee's defense.
- 8:29SPEAKER_00: And Tennessee's defense, you know, you think of Josh Highball, you think of the Tennessee Volunteers that spread you out, light them up offense, and you think of a team that is going to be high, high pace, attacking, a lot of stats.
- 8:43SPEAKER_00: But this is a running football team.
- 8:46SPEAKER_00: This is a defensive focused football team.
- 8:50SPEAKER_00: Um, when you think about Arian Carter, when you think about um Redmond and Dejon Lane, they have real studs on that defense, and then they really lean into the running game with Deshaun Bishop.
- 9:01SPEAKER_00: He has been one of the best running backs in all of college football this year.
- 9:05SPEAKER_00: We do uh highlight great performances every single week on the Tailgate Camp podcast, and there's been multiple games where we have had to call out Deshaun Bishop and his performances in this game alone.
- 9:18SPEAKER_00: He had uh 32 carries for 159 yards and two touchdowns.
- 9:24SPEAKER_00: Um, really took control of this game and put took matters into his own hands.
- 9:29SPEAKER_00: On the Alabama side, I I really anticipated this being a low-scoring defensive slug fest.
- 9:36SPEAKER_00: I I took the Tennessee team total under 21.
- 9:39SPEAKER_00: And, you know, looking at the way this game played out, it felt like it fell right into that criteria.
- 9:46SPEAKER_00: The only you know thing that kind of set that behind and put Alabama um really kind of behind the eight ball was um some of the early turnovers that Alabama had in this game.
- 9:58SPEAKER_00: They they ended up having four turnovers in this game, two fumbles that they lost, and and uh Keelan Russell and one of his most challenging starts that he's had so far this year, had through two interceptions and no touchdowns.
- 10:11SPEAKER_00: He was held under 150 yards passing.
- 10:13SPEAKER_00: So a really impressive day for the Tennessee Volunteers defense at home in front of that crowd in Knoxville.
- 10:21SPEAKER_00: Big win against Alabama, and Alabama is gonna have to respond to this game and to this loss moving forward because this will set up a wonderfully entertaining matchup for Alabama coming off of their bye week this week.
- 10:36SPEAKER_00: Um, they will um actually, excuse me, they will play Texas AM this week, and then they have their bye, and then that sets up the game at number 18 LSU, which could be an absolute showdown between the Tigers and the Crimson Tide.
- 10:52SPEAKER_00: Um, staying in the SEC, number one Georgia, second week in a row, number one has fallen.
- 10:59SPEAKER_00: Number one, Georgia hosted Auburn off of their bye week.
- 11:03SPEAKER_00: And the story here, again, turnovers from the the ranked uh superior team heading into the matchup, turnovers up and down the game, turnovers at the end of the game at critical moments when Georgia could not have them.
- 11:18SPEAKER_00: They threw two interceptions from Gunnar Stockton and that critical loss fumble at the end of the game on the second to last possession, which set up Auburn's game-winning field goal drive that only took them four uh 58 seconds on five plays.
- 11:34SPEAKER_00: A really, really gutsy performance from quarterback Byron Brown.
- 11:38SPEAKER_00: This is the staple win in the first year for first year head coach Alec Golish in those Auburn Tigers.
- 11:45SPEAKER_00: His quarterback Byron Brown essentially carried them to this victory.
- 11:50SPEAKER_00: He had 26 carries, he had 115 yards and a touchdown, physically taking the beating himself all day long.
- 12:00SPEAKER_00: And this that was the difference in the game.
- 12:02SPEAKER_00: Auburn was not making mistakes, and Georgia was, and Auburn was leaning into what they do best, playing good defense and running the football.
- 12:12SPEAKER_00: They had 192 rushing yards, a a very imposing performance from the Auburn Tigers, and a great win, like I said, for Alec Golish in uh Athens, Georgia this weekend.
- 12:26SPEAKER_00: The the Florida Gators, they they have been an up and down roller coaster as a fan of the Florida Gators.
- 12:32SPEAKER_00: It has been quite a ride, obviously taking a hard beating in Columbia, Missouri for uh Mizzou's homecoming a couple weeks ago, and then following that up with a porous performance against a pretty bad South Carolina team.
- 12:50SPEAKER_00: Does not inspire a lot of confidence as the Florida Gators went from being ranked eighth two weeks ago to being unranked, and then having to travel into Austin, Texas, where Texas had just lost to their biggest rival, Oklahoma, in the Red River rivalry last week, thanks to an Arch turnover at the end of the game.
- 13:11SPEAKER_00: And I fully expected this game to be a low-scoring.
- 13:15SPEAKER_00: Texas really put the clamps down on defense, and Texas is able to shut down Florida.
- 13:21SPEAKER_00: But what happened was that Arch continues to show signs of immense regression.
- 13:27SPEAKER_00: He had one really amazing play, which kind of put this game in a little bit more interesting standing than it should have been late in the fourth quarter with about five minutes left on a fourth and three or four, I want to say.
- 13:39SPEAKER_00: And he was kind of rolling to his left as he was getting hit, kind of jumped and threw a cross-body pass all the way down the field, about 50 yards to Emmett Mosley, who hauled in the catch, uh, got around the defender and got tackled out about the two or three.
- 13:54SPEAKER_00: Texas scored a couple plays later on a touchdown to Cam Coleman.
- 13:58SPEAKER_00: But that besides that, that was really the only highlight of the entire day for Texas's offense.
- 14:04SPEAKER_00: That and a first quarter Relique Brown touchdown run.
- 14:08SPEAKER_00: Um, Texas was able to manage just two offensive touchdowns.
- 14:12SPEAKER_00: Uh, their third touchdown came by way of Ryan Nibblett's 63-yard punt return in the second quarter.
- 14:19SPEAKER_00: But Florida got down in this game 17-3 with a backup quarterback playing Tremel Jones.
- 14:25SPEAKER_00: And Tremel Jones stepped up to the plate.
- 14:28SPEAKER_00: It really kind of shifted the tide on a late in the first half, uh, fourth down attempt that they went for, where Tremel Jones was able to find uh Dallas Wilson streaking down the sideline for a big conversion.
- 14:42SPEAKER_00: Florida was able to score right before halftime and get another touchdown or get a touchdown on the board to go into the half only down by seven.
- 14:51SPEAKER_00: Florida started the second half with the ball and immediately went down the field and scored.
- 14:55SPEAKER_00: And it set up what was going to be a defensive struggle for these two teams heading into the fourth quarter, 17-17.
- 15:03SPEAKER_00: And then Arch continued to show negative signs.
- 15:07SPEAKER_00: Um, a pretty bad fumble on a fourth-down attempt on one of the last drives of the game.
- 15:13SPEAKER_00: Just doesn't look comfortable.
- 15:14SPEAKER_00: He was 14 of 20, 173 yards.
- 15:18SPEAKER_00: I mean, a QBR of 20.4.
- 15:21SPEAKER_00: He was outplayed by Florida's backup quarterback, Tremel Jones, in this game.
- 15:25SPEAKER_00: And there's frankly no other way to put it.
- 15:28SPEAKER_00: Um, they don't really lean into their running game at all.
- 15:31SPEAKER_00: They only ran the ball um to their designed running backs 20 times uh for 99 total yards, just not good enough from Texas's offense.
- 15:41SPEAKER_00: I do believe some of this blame needs to go to Steve Sharkeesian.
- 15:45SPEAKER_00: He has coached, you know, less talented teams besides this Texas roster in his career and found ways to get better results than this.
- 15:55SPEAKER_00: I feel like a lot of this falls on his creativity, his dedication to being a physical football team, especially with the the skill that Texas has on their offensive line, to not lean into that is a tremendous disservice.
- 16:09SPEAKER_00: But in a huge, huge program, um, you know, kind of uplifting win for John Summerall and the Florida Gators to be able to pick yourself up off the mat.
- 16:21SPEAKER_00: You're four and two.
- 16:22SPEAKER_00: You feel like your season might be starting to get away from you.
- 16:25SPEAKER_00: You know you have Georgia coming up after the bye in the world's largest outdoor cocktail party, and you are able to muster the ability to get a huge win.
- 16:35SPEAKER_00: The first time Florida has beaten an AP top 10 ranked team on the road in over 10 years.
- 16:42SPEAKER_00: So a massive, massive step in the right direction for the Florida Gators.
- 16:46SPEAKER_00: John Summerall, um, Jaden Ball had a pretty good game, especially in the second half where he really started to lean on Texas as this game became tied, and then Florida took the lead, and then Jaden eventually iced the game with a nice touchdown run in the fourth quarter.
- 17:02SPEAKER_00: Um, but a really awesome performance from the Florida Gators in this one on the road.
- 17:08SPEAKER_00: And moving on um into the Big 12, number 20, Houston, and number 18 Oklahoma State.
- 17:15SPEAKER_00: That was kind of the matchup of the day in the Big 12.
- 17:18SPEAKER_00: This was an exciting matchup, a back and forth game.
- 17:23SPEAKER_00: Um, both quarterbacks were as advertised.
- 17:27SPEAKER_00: Drew Mestermaker, uh, 365 yards and three touchdowns.
- 17:31SPEAKER_00: Um, but Houston, they just have an imposing willpower about them.
- 17:36SPEAKER_00: Their offense, led by quarterback Connor Wegman, is so dynamic.
- 17:41SPEAKER_00: Amari Thomas, um, Trent Walker, um, they just have so many guys.
- 17:45SPEAKER_00: Makai Hughes at the running back position, um, Wegman himself running the ball for 52 yards.
- 17:52SPEAKER_00: Just really impressive stuff.
- 17:54SPEAKER_00: Their defense um buckled up when it really mattered the most.
- 17:58SPEAKER_00: They were able to get out to a big lead and then hold on to that lead 35-32 for the 20th ranked Cougars to get a big win against Oklahoma State.
- 18:09SPEAKER_00: So huge win there for Willie Fritz.
- 18:11SPEAKER_00: They improved to six and one.
- 18:12SPEAKER_00: The Cowboys fall to four and two in their first Big 12 loss of the season, but ultimately a huge win for the number 20 ranked Houston Cougars.
- 18:23SPEAKER_00: Now let's bring it back to the state of Florida.
- 18:26SPEAKER_00: Um, number three, Miami took on one of their biggest rivals in Florida State this past Saturday.
- 18:33SPEAKER_00: And man, was this a good game for a lot of fans?
- 18:37SPEAKER_00: They were not anticipating how close this game would be.
- 18:40SPEAKER_00: We were tied at halftime.
- 18:42SPEAKER_00: Um, the second half was an answer by you know Florida State to start the second half.
- 18:47SPEAKER_00: They came out and scored in the third quarter.
- 18:49SPEAKER_00: Um, and then the fourth quarter was a back and forth affair.
- 18:52SPEAKER_00: Darien Minsa made some incredible plays.
- 18:55SPEAKER_00: Javion Mallory, who replaced an injured Mark Fletcher at running back for Miami, he was exceptional.
- 19:01SPEAKER_00: He had 108 yards um and two touchdowns in this game.
- 19:05SPEAKER_00: Malachi Tony himself had a had a great game.
- 19:09SPEAKER_00: Uh, a lot of great performances from the Miami Hurricanes on offense, a lot of great performances, honestly, from Florida State on offense.
- 19:16SPEAKER_00: Deuce Robinson is a true difference maker.
- 19:20SPEAKER_00: He had a crazy 75-yard touchdown catch in in the fourth quarter, which looks like which looked like it was going to give Florida State the victory.
- 19:30SPEAKER_00: Um, but Miami was able to muster a late touchdown drive and tie the game force overtime, where Miami was able to get the victory.
- 19:39SPEAKER_00: Um, Ashton Daniels threw four touchdowns himself.
- 19:42SPEAKER_00: He also ran for 31 yards and a touchdown.
- 19:45SPEAKER_00: So another great game for Ashton Daniels statistically.
- 19:48SPEAKER_00: Um, but at least, you know, when when those punches started to hold a little bit more weight, Ashton's gloves look a little bit light.
- 19:56SPEAKER_00: You know, when when those plays start to matter more on third, fourth down, late in the game, they don't have um you know the setup on the offensive line.
- 20:07SPEAKER_00: Um they don't have the multiple receivers that can win on the outside, and he's just not your typical dropback quarterback.
- 20:15SPEAKER_00: He is an athlete, he's a dynamic athlete playing the quarterback position.
- 20:19SPEAKER_00: Um, and then the last thing here, kind of on the Florida State side, was their star running back who has been tremendous all season.
- 20:26SPEAKER_00: Usman Cromaw had to be carted off the field, looked like a pretty bad uh leg injury that he suffered.
- 20:33SPEAKER_00: Uh, I did not see any official word if he was going to be out for the season.
- 20:38SPEAKER_00: Um, I would assume so that he will be out.
- 20:40SPEAKER_00: Um, I'm looking it up right now, getting research on our tailgate department on it.
- 20:45SPEAKER_00: Uh, it is confirmed that he is out for the season with a broken ankle, a terrible loss there for Florida State in their running back room.
- 20:53SPEAKER_00: Um, but what does this mean for Miami?
- 20:55SPEAKER_00: To me, I think it means that they survived a rivalry game.
- 20:58SPEAKER_00: These rivalry games are what make college football great.
- 21:01SPEAKER_00: I know they were favored by three scores heading into this game, but to me, these rivalry games are supposed to be close.
- 21:08SPEAKER_00: This is this is what you expect with college football.
- 21:11SPEAKER_00: Florida State is not supposed to roll over when they're playing their biggest rival in the Miami Hurricanes in their building.
- 21:18SPEAKER_00: It was a sold-out environment in Hard Rock Stadium.
- 21:21SPEAKER_00: This is exactly what the epitome of what college football can be at its best.
- 21:26SPEAKER_00: This was a very entertaining game late Saturday night and a big win for the Hurricanes to improve to 3 and 0.
- 21:33SPEAKER_00: Uh, a few other games to talk through.
- 21:36SPEAKER_00: Um, Kentucky got a nice win on the road, their fourth SEC win of the year for first year head coach Will Stein coming over from Oregon where he was their offensive coordinator.
- 21:47SPEAKER_00: I've continued to heap praise on that man and the leadership that he has brought to those Kentucky Wildcats.
- 21:54SPEAKER_00: They are a formidable force, especially on defense, which is you know, in the years that we've Seen Kentucky be good, whether it was with offensive coordinator Liam Cohen, um, whether it was with um special quarterbacks that they had, like Will Levis in college, like Andre Woodson in the in the early 2000s.
- 22:13SPEAKER_00: Um those Kentucky teams with Randall Cobb of the like, they were always defined by their offense and usually by their running, like running game.
- 22:22SPEAKER_00: But this Kentucky team is defined by their defense.
- 22:27SPEAKER_00: They have won multiple games by by being a physical talented defense, especially in their front seven.
- 22:35SPEAKER_00: They set the tone against a you know bad Oklahoma team on the road, uh and they could have easily let Oklahoma mess around, stay in this game, establish an offensive rhythm and identity, but Kentucky shut that down.
- 22:49SPEAKER_00: They got a huge win in Norman.
- 22:51SPEAKER_00: Congrats to Will Stein and those Kentucky Wildcats.
- 22:55SPEAKER_00: Um, a few other results we're gonna run through here a little bit quicker.
- 22:58SPEAKER_00: Um, my number 13 ranked my Mizzou Tigers got a walloping when they got down to Oxford, Mississippi.
- 23:06SPEAKER_00: They got trounced Austin Simmons honestly still played really, really well.
- 23:10SPEAKER_00: The the biggest factor here was the fact that Mizzou could not get off the field on third downs consistently on defense.
- 23:17SPEAKER_00: Trinidad had an exceptional game in this in this game.
- 23:21SPEAKER_00: Um and the the big story, the reason that Mizzou ended up losing this game is they could not run the ball.
- 23:28SPEAKER_00: Um, when you when you look at the box score on this game, Mizzou had their lowest rushing total of the season.
- 23:34SPEAKER_00: They ran 20 carries to Jamal Roberts for 39 yards.
- 23:38SPEAKER_00: That it sets up a lot of second and longs, third and longs, um, fourth and you know, mediums, like the distances that you don't want to be in uh on offense.
- 23:49SPEAKER_00: And on the flip side, Old Miss ran all over Mizzou.
- 23:53SPEAKER_00: Makai Frazier had 101 yards, Kowan Lacey had 122 yards.
- 23:58SPEAKER_00: Um, they they had 257 yards rushing as a team, 241 passing yards from Trinidad Chambliss, just a really exceptional bounce back following that Florida loss for Old Miss to rebound and defeat Vanderbilt the way they did that they did last week, and then to follow that up with a really impressive win against uh the Missouri Tigers at home in Oxford.
- 24:24SPEAKER_00: Number 11, Utah, they survived a very close test from the Colorado uh Buffaloes.
- 24:31SPEAKER_00: They they were able to outlast Colorado 27 to 24.
- 24:35SPEAKER_00: This was a much closer than expected game.
- 24:38SPEAKER_00: Um, but this seems to kind of be the way that Utah plays.
- 24:41SPEAKER_00: Um, you know, early on in the season, they were absolutely blowing teams out.
- 24:46SPEAKER_00: Uh, they use a kind of unique two-quarterback system with Bird Ficklin, who will catch passes, he will run direct snaps, he will occasionally throw passes out of trick plays.
- 24:57SPEAKER_00: Um, but Devin Dampier, he played pretty well in this game.
- 25:01SPEAKER_00: Um, but the story here was the fact that uh Colorado was able to run the football.
- 25:06SPEAKER_00: They outrushed Utah.
- 25:07SPEAKER_00: They had 138 yards on 24 carries, a 5.8 yard per carry average.
- 25:13SPEAKER_00: Meanwhile, Utah, they were limited to just 39 carries for 139 yards or excuse me, 131 yards um in this game.
- 25:21SPEAKER_00: So they were they were really outrushed, outphysicled on the road in Boulder.
- 25:26SPEAKER_00: But nonetheless, Utah improves to 6-0 in Colorado Falls to 0-3 in the Big 12 and 2-4 overall.
- 25:35SPEAKER_00: Um, so tough game there for Deion Sanders and Coach Prime with the Buffaloes.
- 25:41SPEAKER_00: Despite losing their starting quarterback, Nico Imaliava for the season, uh UCLA remains undefeated.
- 25:48SPEAKER_00: They played a low-scoring um kind of slug fest with Wisconsin.
- 25:52SPEAKER_00: They won 17-7.
- 25:54SPEAKER_00: Uh, Wake Forest, they are not talked about enough.
- 25:57SPEAKER_00: They are not getting enough uh mention and praise from around the sports media world, but they improved to six and one.
- 26:04SPEAKER_00: They routed Cal 41 to 7, and suddenly Tosh Lapoy's team in Cal has completely gone off the rails.
- 26:12SPEAKER_00: Uh, you know, that season seems like it's completely lost for those Cal Bears, who I was pretty high on coming into the season, um, but a brutal loss there for Cal at home, hosting Wake Forest, who went all the way across the country in number 21 Wake Forest and proves to 6-1 on the season.
- 26:30SPEAKER_00: And then lastly, I got to give a shout out to Jesse Legree, the freshman receiver for Oregon State.
- 26:38SPEAKER_00: The Oregon State currently, right now, they are undefeated in the Pac-12.
- 26:44SPEAKER_00: Um, they are five and two overall.
- 26:46SPEAKER_00: Their two losses came to two of the best teams in the Big 12.
- 26:51SPEAKER_00: They lost on the road at number 23, Houston, by 13, and they lost at home to number 13, Texas at the time by 11.
- 26:59SPEAKER_00: So by no means were they blown out of those games.
- 27:02SPEAKER_00: And then since then, they defeated perennial FCS title contender Montana by 35 at home.
- 27:11SPEAKER_00: They went on the road, defeated UTEP by 26.
- 27:14SPEAKER_00: They beat UTEP worse than Michigan did.
- 27:16SPEAKER_00: Uh, they went on the road and defeated Colorado State by 30.
- 27:20SPEAKER_00: Uh, hosted San Diego State and beat them by 52, and then played Washington State this weekend and housed them 48 to 30.
- 27:30SPEAKER_00: Oregon State, like I said, improves to 3-0 in the Pac-12, 5-2 overall.
- 27:34SPEAKER_00: But the story is my guy, Jesse Legree.
- 27:39SPEAKER_00: He had eight catches for 108 yards in this game and two touchdowns.
- 27:44SPEAKER_00: This is his season stat line.
- 27:46SPEAKER_00: Keep in mind, he's a freshman, a 5'10 freshman out of Oregon, uh, out of Baltimore, Maryland, playing for the Oregon State Beavers.
- 27:54SPEAKER_00: Right now, he is first in the nation in receiving yards, first in the nation in touchdowns, and third in the nation in yards per catch from a freshman receiver playing on Oregon State.
- 28:06SPEAKER_00: He has 1,040 yards, 46 catches, and 14 touchdowns.
- 28:12SPEAKER_00: They played seven games and he has 14 touchdowns.
- 28:15SPEAKER_00: He's averaging two touchdowns per game.
- 28:18SPEAKER_00: This guy is an absolute stud.
- 28:20SPEAKER_00: I saw something the other day that Chad Ochosinko offered up$2 million of his own money to ensure that Jesse Legree stays in Corvallis, Oregon.
- 28:31SPEAKER_00: Uh, he has had an amazing season.
- 28:34SPEAKER_00: If he does enter the portal, he will be one of the most sought-after weapons in the portal.
- 28:40SPEAKER_00: But I would love to see that guy stay in Corvallis and develop a historic career for the Beavers.
- 28:46SPEAKER_00: Um, really great performance.
- 28:48SPEAKER_00: Some some other great performances from week seven before we move on to week eight.
- 28:53SPEAKER_00: Texas State running back Torrance Burgess.
- 28:57SPEAKER_00: He had a huge part in what was a historic night for Texas State.
- 29:01SPEAKER_00: Uh, he had 24 carries for 224 yards, four rushing touchdowns, and then chipped in three catches and 52 receiving yards for 276 total yards in this game.
- 29:15SPEAKER_00: Miami wide receiver.
- 29:16SPEAKER_00: I mentioned him a little bit, but Malachi Tony had 11 catches for uh 154 yards and two touchdowns against Miami's huge rival in FSU.
- 29:27SPEAKER_00: Uh, I also talked about this guy a little bit.
- 29:29SPEAKER_00: Tennessee running back Deshaun Bishop, 32 carries, 159 yards, and two touchdowns.
- 29:35SPEAKER_00: Also chipped in 16 additional receiving yards in Tennessee's massive upset win over number six Alabama.
- 29:42SPEAKER_00: Texas Texas running back Jacoby Williams, he made the most of his 11 carries by popping off for 165 rushing yards and two touchdowns against the Arizona State Sun Devils.
- 29:54SPEAKER_00: I also mentioned Byron Brown, Auburn's quarterback, had 26 carries on the ground for 115 yards and a rushing touchdown and a massive roll in Auburn's upset of Georgia.
- 30:07SPEAKER_00: And then despite the loss, Syracuse wide receiver Umari Hatcher brought in 13 catches for 224 yards and a touchdown against Louisville.
- 30:18SPEAKER_00: They lost the game, but Umari Hatcher had a fantastic Saturday afternoon against the Cardinal.
- 30:25SPEAKER_00: Let's move on to week eight in our tail the tailgate picks.
- 30:30SPEAKER_00: Our year-to-date record for college football.
- 30:32SPEAKER_00: We are 33-30 and one.
- 30:34SPEAKER_00: We are negative 0.3 units.
- 30:37SPEAKER_00: We had a few bad beats that brought our yearly record down.
- 30:42SPEAKER_00: We were two and six last week.
- 30:44SPEAKER_00: Tough losses.
- 30:45SPEAKER_00: Houston, we had minus four and a half.
- 30:47SPEAKER_00: They win by four.
- 30:48SPEAKER_00: They gave up a late touchdown.
- 30:50SPEAKER_00: Um, that was really kind of they they were just trying to not let Oklahoma State score too fast.
- 30:55SPEAKER_00: They ended up winning by three.
- 30:57SPEAKER_00: Indiana, who lost 19 to 15.
- 31:00SPEAKER_00: We had them plus three and a half when Nick Marsh could have maybe just got a foot a little further in bounds, and they would have not only covered, but they would have outright won the game against Ohio State.
- 31:12SPEAKER_00: And then the Tennessee team total under 21.
- 31:14SPEAKER_00: This was a defensive slug fest, and the fact that this went over was a disappointment, but that is the way it goes sometimes.
- 31:22SPEAKER_00: We are on to week eight.
- 31:24SPEAKER_00: It is time to tail the tailgate for college football.
- 31:27SPEAKER_00: Let's get started with the biggest matchup of the weekend.
- 31:31SPEAKER_00: Two teams that really feel like they are moving in completely opposite directions.
- 31:37SPEAKER_00: That is number seven, Ole Miss, their five and one record.
- 31:40SPEAKER_00: They take down to Austin, Texas against the number 19 Texas Longhorns, who are losers of two straight games, losing to Oklahoma and to the Florida Gators last week.
- 31:51SPEAKER_00: Texas is a home favorite, minus three and a half against Ole Miss.
- 31:55SPEAKER_00: The over-under is set at 53.5.
- 31:58SPEAKER_00: And when I think about this game, I think Sark has to do everything within his ability to set Arch up for success.
- 32:05SPEAKER_00: I know on the other side, Trinidad will get his.
- 32:08SPEAKER_00: I don't know how much they will score against this vaunted Texas defense, but it doesn't hurt that Colin Simmons was carted off the field in that game against Florida.
- 32:18SPEAKER_00: That is a huge loss if he is unable to come back this season for Texas.
- 32:23SPEAKER_00: I'm gonna lean towards the over here.
- 32:26SPEAKER_00: The over 53 and a half in this game.
- 32:28SPEAKER_00: I know I can trust Trinidad.
- 32:30SPEAKER_00: I know I can trust the running game for Ole Miss to get theirs at times and make plays when they are presented to them.
- 32:37SPEAKER_00: But I think Arch has to have a bounce back performance.
- 32:41SPEAKER_00: This is a narrative game.
- 32:43SPEAKER_00: This is for the dialogue around Texas for Arch for Sark.
- 32:48SPEAKER_00: I think I don't know if they'll win.
- 32:50SPEAKER_00: I don't know if they'll win, but they cannot lay an egg on offense, even if they lose, because they will not left it down in Austin.
- 32:58SPEAKER_00: Give me the over 53 and a half between Ole Miss and Texas.
- 33:02SPEAKER_00: Let's go over to the Big Ten, number 16 USC, a team that couldn't be more thrilled about Ohio State's recent loss.
- 33:10SPEAKER_00: They are 6-1, and they traveled to Wisconsin to take on the 4-2 Badgers.
- 33:17SPEAKER_00: USC is a three-point road favorite in this game.
- 33:19SPEAKER_00: The over-under is set at 49 and a half.
- 33:23SPEAKER_00: It is official.
- 33:24SPEAKER_00: We are officially a Badger podcast, and it is not intentional.
- 33:30SPEAKER_00: I am not a massive Luke Fickle fan by any imagination.
- 33:34SPEAKER_00: I am not truly a Colton Joseph fan by any imagination.
- 33:38SPEAKER_00: I continue to think Wisconsin finds themselves in these favorable spots, uh, facing these teams, you know, off of big wins, off of letdown spots.
- 33:49SPEAKER_00: Uh they they just find themselves in a good position here.
- 33:53SPEAKER_00: Uh I like Wisconsin in this in this spot plus three.
- 33:57SPEAKER_00: Give me the badgers to cover at home.
- 34:00SPEAKER_00: Uh I think they play really exceptional defense, and I think they can make just enough plays on offense to keep this one close.
- 34:09SPEAKER_00: Staying in the Big Ten, in number six, Indiana, fresh off of that loss to Ohio State.
- 34:15SPEAKER_00: They traveled to Ann Arbor to take on the also reeling Michigan Wolverines in their four-and-two record.
- 34:22SPEAKER_00: Indiana is a seven-point road favorite in the big house.
- 34:26SPEAKER_00: The over-under is set at 41 and a half.
- 34:28SPEAKER_00: I bet if we looked back through the history books, Indiana has probably never been a touchdown favorite in the big house.
- 34:36SPEAKER_00: That is a wild number to see.
- 34:39SPEAKER_00: If you had locked yourself into a box for the last five years and you didn't know anything about what was going on with Indiana football, and you came out of that box to see that Indiana was a touchdown favorite in Ann Arbor, you wouldn't know what to do with yourself.
- 34:54SPEAKER_00: That is one of the crazier things that I've seen in my lifetime.
- 34:57SPEAKER_00: But Indiana truly deserves it.
- 34:59SPEAKER_00: They have earned this type of respect.
- 35:03SPEAKER_00: And furthermore, I think both of these defenses legitimately can play.
- 35:07SPEAKER_00: Um, this will also be the first start for um quarterback Tommy Carr for Michigan.
- 35:14SPEAKER_00: Uh, Michigan decided to start Tommy Carr in this game as opposed to Bryce Underwood.
- 35:21SPEAKER_00: Um, Tommy Carr himself, I'm looking it up right now, is a freshman out of Celine, Michigan.
- 35:28SPEAKER_00: Um, this obviously related to Lloyd Carr, the former Michigan coach.
- 35:33SPEAKER_00: Um, he played okay last week.
- 35:36SPEAKER_00: He was five of seven, uh 47 yards, some mop-up duty in their win against Penn State.
- 35:43SPEAKER_00: Uh, really a game where they leaned into the running game, which I would expect them to do here.
- 35:48SPEAKER_00: I'm gonna take the under 41 and a half.
- 35:50SPEAKER_00: I know that's a low total, and I know Indiana has explosive, explosive wide receivers on offense, but I think there's a legitimate chance Michigan does not score more than one touchdown in this game.
- 36:02SPEAKER_00: Give me the under 41 and a half in Ann Arbor.
- 36:06SPEAKER_00: Let's go out to Salt Lake City.
- 36:09SPEAKER_00: The undefeated 6-0, number 10 Utah Utes are hosting those 14th ranked Cougars, their 6-1 record, uh that fresh off of that big win we just talked about against Oklahoma State.
- 36:22SPEAKER_00: Utah favored in this game by 6.5.
- 36:25SPEAKER_00: The over-under is set at 56 and a half.
- 36:28SPEAKER_00: I, you know, this one's simple for me.
- 36:31SPEAKER_00: This is a late game in Rice Eccles Stadium.
- 36:34SPEAKER_00: That crowd will be rocking.
- 36:36SPEAKER_00: I think both of these teams know how to run the football.
- 36:39SPEAKER_00: I think both of these teams will be up for the moment.
- 36:41SPEAKER_00: I do not see this being a blowout, an extended blowout where one of these teams quits in the middle of this game.
- 36:48SPEAKER_00: This is a monumental game in the Big 12 standings, a monumental game for both of these teams' efforts to make the college football playoff.
- 36:56SPEAKER_00: And I'm gonna roll with the over in this game.
- 36:59SPEAKER_00: I I was tempted to pick Houston by uh plus six and a half, but really what I what I trust more is these offenses to come into um a big, you know, a massive Big 12 game and show up and deliver and and play, you know, a well-oiled offensive machine game plan.
- 37:18SPEAKER_00: I'm gonna take the over 56 and a half between Houston and Utah.
- 37:24SPEAKER_00: Now let's go over to uh Orlando, Florida.
- 37:28SPEAKER_00: The UCF 3-3 UCF Knights host number two BYU, their 6-0 record in Orlando.
- 37:35SPEAKER_00: BYU is a six and a half point road favorite.
- 37:38SPEAKER_00: The over-under is set at 43 and a half.
- 37:41SPEAKER_00: We've done it all season.
- 37:43SPEAKER_00: We've we've done pretty well in the NFL doing this on the tail-to-tailgate segment, but I'm gonna take UCF and the points here.
- 37:51SPEAKER_00: They're at home.
- 37:52SPEAKER_00: UCF's crowd can get pretty loud in the Bright House.
- 37:56SPEAKER_00: I'm gonna take UCF plus six and a half.
- 37:58SPEAKER_00: This is a massive letdown spot for BYU.
- 38:02SPEAKER_00: That was one of their biggest games they've ever had in their stadium in in Provo, Utah.
- 38:07SPEAKER_00: And I I think UCF is is formidable enough to actually be able to get a um close result here.
- 38:15SPEAKER_00: I do not think that they will be able to pull off the upset, but I am going to take UCF plus six and a half.
- 38:20SPEAKER_00: I think it's too many points for BYU to take on the road and try to cover against a Big 12 opponent.
- 38:28SPEAKER_00: Um that is not, you know, they're UCF isn't dead yet.
- 38:32SPEAKER_00: They're they may be three and three, but they have played okay at stretches during the season.
- 38:37SPEAKER_00: This would be a huge win if UCF is able to get a victory here for Scott Frost and that coaching staff.
- 38:44SPEAKER_00: But I'm gonna roll with the Golden Knights.
- 38:47SPEAKER_00: Let's go back to the SEC.
- 38:49SPEAKER_00: We have three more picks left to go through before we get to the NFL.
- 38:53SPEAKER_00: Let's start with number 11, Tennessee, fresh off of that win against Alabama.
- 38:58SPEAKER_00: Their six and one record, they traveled to Columbia, South Carolina, not Columbia, Missouri, the lesser Columbia in the SEC.
- 39:08SPEAKER_00: Tennessee six and one heading into this game.
- 39:10SPEAKER_00: South Carolina 3-3, fresh off of their bye week.
- 39:13SPEAKER_00: South Carolina is a two and a half point favorite at home.
- 39:18SPEAKER_00: The over-under is set at 50 and a half.
- 39:20SPEAKER_00: That tells you one thing.
- 39:22SPEAKER_00: Vegas knows how this works.
- 39:25SPEAKER_00: There is a letdown coming.
- 39:27SPEAKER_00: Everyone and their mothers will be picking Tennessee, wondering why are they underdogs on the road to a bad South Carolina team?
- 39:35SPEAKER_00: Because South Carolina is going to win the game.
- 39:38SPEAKER_00: Give me the Game Cox.
- 39:40SPEAKER_00: Give me Lenora Sellers.
- 39:42SPEAKER_00: I think they have figured a little bit of their offense out.
- 39:44SPEAKER_00: They looked exceptional in their passing attack against the Gators in Gainesville a couple weeks ago.
- 39:50SPEAKER_00: Give me the Game Cox at home to pull a massive upset on Tennessee.
- 39:56SPEAKER_00: Let's go to some maxion football.
- 39:59SPEAKER_00: Western Michigan in their five and two record, really, I should say six and one record.
- 40:04SPEAKER_00: If we could redo that Michigan result in week one, they traveled to the Glass Bowl in Toledo, Ohio to take on the five and two Toledo Rockets.
- 40:15SPEAKER_00: Toledo is a three-point favorite in this game.
- 40:18SPEAKER_00: The over-under is set at 45 and a half.
- 40:22SPEAKER_00: And when I look at this game, I you know, Western Michigan certainly has um the running ability with running back Jalen Buckley.
- 40:31SPEAKER_00: Um, but really what this game is going to come down to is the passing attack from Toledo.
- 40:38SPEAKER_00: Um, the passing attack specifically from John Allen Richter.
- 40:42SPEAKER_00: Um, he's been fantastic for large stretches of the season.
- 40:45SPEAKER_00: He's almost 2,000 passing yards already, 14 touchdowns, only one interception.
- 40:50SPEAKER_00: Um, he's been really tremendous.
- 40:52SPEAKER_00: Uh, one of the best quarterbacks in the Mac.
- 40:55SPEAKER_00: I'm gonna take Toledo minus three at home to really set themselves up uh for a big Mac run heading further later into the season.
- 41:04SPEAKER_00: Western Michigan is currently 3-0 in the Mac.
- 41:07SPEAKER_00: Toledo 2-1.
- 41:08SPEAKER_00: So Toledo getting a win here keeps them in pace to be able to win the Mac and compete in Detroit for that Mac title.
- 41:17SPEAKER_00: And our last pick of the game, our last pick of the day goes in the Mountain West Conference.
- 41:22SPEAKER_00: We've had North Dakota State twice so far this year on our tail-to-tailgate picks, and North Dakota State, both times, has been friendly to us.
- 41:31SPEAKER_00: One time where we picked uh them to lose a game, which was their only loss.
- 41:35SPEAKER_00: They are six and one on the season.
- 41:37SPEAKER_00: The other was week one against Jacksonville State, which they destroyed the Game Cox in Jacksonville State in week zero.
- 41:46SPEAKER_00: But this is a different challenge.
- 41:48SPEAKER_00: They are traveling on the road to New Mexico to take on the five-one New Mexico football team.
- 41:56SPEAKER_00: And really, what this game is gonna come down to when we look at the Lobos and and their roster, um, we're you know, they are a primarily a running football team.
- 42:08SPEAKER_00: Um, they only have uh less than a thousand yards, 981 total passing yards on the entire season.
- 42:16SPEAKER_00: Um, they are not a pass first led offense.
- 42:20SPEAKER_00: They are led by Scottry Humphrey, um, Kiefer Sibley, uh, and a few other guys in that backfield.
- 42:27SPEAKER_00: I think they can present maybe a strong challenge um in a and a little bit of a back and forth here with North Dakota State.
- 42:35SPEAKER_00: But ultimately, with quarterback Nathan Hayes, with um some of the different running backs that North Dakota State has on their roster, um, Miles Mitchell, DJ Scott, um Pooney, they they have a lot of strong weapons.
- 42:49SPEAKER_00: The fact that this spread is set at four and a half implies to me that New Mexico might be able to escape with a big win in the Mountain West, but I'm gonna trust the bison here.
- 43:01SPEAKER_00: I think they have championship pedigree.
- 43:03SPEAKER_00: This roster is littered with guys who have competed in massive, massive games.
- 43:08SPEAKER_00: They will not be intimidated to play in a in a stadium like New Mexico.
- 43:13SPEAKER_00: Um, I'm gonna take North Dakota State plus four and a half.
- 43:16SPEAKER_00: I know that seems risky given how that line looks on paper, but I'm gonna take the bison plus four and a half here.
- 43:23SPEAKER_00: So let's recap our eight picks for the tail to tailgate segment on the college football tracker.
- 43:30SPEAKER_00: Ole Miss, Texas, over 53 and a half, Wisconsin plus three, Indiana, Michigan, under 41 and a half, Houston, Utah, over 56 and a half, UCF plus six and a half, South Carolina minus two and a half, Toledo, minus three, and North Dakota State plus four and a half.
- 43:50SPEAKER_00: Now let's go and switch gears a little bit and move over to the NFL.
- 43:56SPEAKER_00: We had some very, very exciting games.
- 44:00SPEAKER_00: In weeks uh week six in the NFL.
- 44:03SPEAKER_00: Um, we can start with the London game with my Jags.
- 44:07SPEAKER_00: This was a very, you know, exciting game for the most part.
- 44:11SPEAKER_00: This was back and forth, high scoring, 65 total points scored in this game.
- 44:16SPEAKER_00: Both of these quarterbacks, I have to give CJ Stroud some credit, looked absolutely tremendous.
- 44:22SPEAKER_00: Um, he made a couple touchdown throws in this game that were fantastic.
- 44:26SPEAKER_00: And then on the flip side, Trevor Lawrence just continues to rip in the middle of the field.
- 44:31SPEAKER_00: Uh, he finds Travis Hunter for a beautiful Texas route, Travis Hunter's second career receiving touchdown.
- 44:38SPEAKER_00: He finds Bajal Tootin on a few um kind of up the sideline passes where um Houston basically didn't have linebackers or uh didn't have defensive backs on Tootin.
- 44:49SPEAKER_00: And he was matched up with either Henry Tohoto on one or Aziz Al-Shayer on the other.
- 44:56SPEAKER_00: And Tootin was able to get the edge, and Trevor found him there.
- 44:59SPEAKER_00: Uh, and then Trevor's fourth touchdown throw was really incredible.
- 45:04SPEAKER_00: He did like kind of a fake jump pass thing, like almost Tebow-esque, and then stopped and kind of pop passed up to Nate Borkacher, who was the Jag's second-round pick, who brought down a really beautiful catch there uh in the end zone for his first career touchdown.
- 45:20SPEAKER_00: But again, this was a back and forth game.
- 45:23SPEAKER_00: Uh, a lot of uh good plays on offense made by both teams.
- 45:28SPEAKER_00: Both teams ran the ball for over a hundred yards.
- 45:30SPEAKER_00: Um, Houston was the first team since Liam Cohen became the coach to run for over a hundred yards against this Jacksonville defense, which has been a barometer that has been brought up time and time again, not only by the coaching staff, but by the players on defense particularly.
- 45:48SPEAKER_00: Um a good game.
- 45:51SPEAKER_00: I don't I don't really know that this changes my opinion too much about either team.
- 45:54SPEAKER_00: I think Houston still has a lot of deficiencies on offense, especially their running game.
- 46:00SPEAKER_00: I don't know that they'll be able to run the ball effectively week in and week out.
- 46:05SPEAKER_00: Um, what David Montgomery missed this game?
- 46:07SPEAKER_00: So this was uh Jawar Jordan, Woody Marks fest from the running backfield.
- 46:12SPEAKER_00: And then from the Jacksonville side, you know, I think they played pretty well.
- 46:16SPEAKER_00: I think there were a lot of penalties that I would like to have a second look at, um, especially that holding call on Brenton Strange, which negated a Bayeshall Tooton touchdown.
- 46:26SPEAKER_00: And then the very next play, Trevor throws an interception in the back of the end zone.
- 46:31SPEAKER_00: So you have that back.
- 46:32SPEAKER_00: Maybe this game plays out a little bit differently.
- 46:34SPEAKER_00: There were a few others, uh, a DPI on Travis Hunter deep down the right sideline, right before halftime, which allowed Houston to score a late first half touchdown and re regain the lead after Jacksonville had gotten the lead late in the first half.
- 46:50SPEAKER_00: Um, Marvin Harrison had a few catches in this game.
- 46:53SPEAKER_00: Jalen Knowle had a really fantastic game.
- 46:55SPEAKER_00: He had a 50-yard catch for the Texans.
- 46:58SPEAKER_00: Really fun game.
- 46:59SPEAKER_00: Um, but again, uh an enjoyable game, but not a lot of major takeaways here.
- 47:06SPEAKER_00: Um, just two teams that know each other very well that are going to play a hard game against each other uh every time they match up, essentially.
- 47:15SPEAKER_00: Uh going back to Thursday night football last week, the Broncos and the Seahawks put on a clinic of how not to play offense.
- 47:25SPEAKER_00: Bo Knicks was 17 of 27 for 107 yards.
- 47:30SPEAKER_00: He lost 13 yards on sacks, so Bo Knicks really netted out at 94 total yards.
- 47:37SPEAKER_00: Um just a really gross performance from the Broncos offense, as it has been all year.
- 47:45SPEAKER_00: That being said, they're 4-2, they're undefeated at home.
- 47:48SPEAKER_00: They got the win here.
- 47:50SPEAKER_00: On the flip side of things, the Seattle Seahawks, uh, they don't have a lot of answers on offense right now, outside of Jackson Smith and Jigba, who was again tremendous in this game.
- 48:00SPEAKER_00: He had 12 catches for 134 yards on 16 targets, uh, on 51 attempts, uh, 46 total targets he got out.
- 48:11SPEAKER_00: 16 targets is absurd for a target share, almost a 33% target share.
- 48:17SPEAKER_00: Um, actually a little bit over a 33% target share for JSN in this Thursday night matchup against the Broncos with no Pat's or Tan on the other side.
- 48:26SPEAKER_00: So what is the takeaway here for the Seahawks?
- 48:29SPEAKER_00: To me, I think it's the fact that Sam Darnold, I don't know if it's the the hip injury lingering from the beginning of the season, or it's really just the fact that they miss Kenneth Walker in that presence, that physical downhill presence that he would provide in games.
- 48:44SPEAKER_00: Also, I think it's obvious that they miss Zach Charbonnet and Jadarian Price.
- 48:49SPEAKER_00: Not having a true running game seems to really tie this team up because they continue to face third and longs, you know, second and eights, um, third and nines, and that is not a recipe for success with Sam Darnold.
- 49:04SPEAKER_00: He needs to be in quick game, moving in and up and down the field, mixing in those running plays here and there.
- 49:11SPEAKER_00: And um, like I said, both of these offenses were extremely disappointing in this game.
- 49:17SPEAKER_00: Poor performances all around, but Denver was able to squeak out yet another win 17 to 14 at home.
- 49:25SPEAKER_00: Over in Atlanta, Caleb Williams made his first start back this uh since the infamous towel over the head injury.
- 49:34SPEAKER_00: Um he looked great.
- 49:36SPEAKER_00: Uh he jumped out to uh or excuse me, the Bears jumped out to a great start in this game.
- 49:41SPEAKER_00: They were up 31 to 7 early on in the fourth quarter before we saw Michael Penix rally off two late touchdowns, one to Kyle, or both of them actually to Kyle Pitts in the fourth quarter.
- 49:54SPEAKER_00: Um, but really this was a game that the Bears dominated.
- 49:57SPEAKER_00: Um Caleb Williams himself was 30 of 36.
- 50:01SPEAKER_00: He completed his first 12 passes, hit 305 yards and a touchdown.
- 50:06SPEAKER_00: Um, DeAndre Swift had two touchdowns.
- 50:09SPEAKER_00: Roshan Johnson had a touchdown, Luther Burden, eight catches, 95 yards, Colston Loveland, six catches, 65 yards.
- 50:17SPEAKER_00: Um, not a lot of takeaways here on on the Falcon side.
- 50:21SPEAKER_00: I I felt like this was a mismatch.
- 50:23SPEAKER_00: Atlanta had been playing much better.
- 50:26SPEAKER_00: The the shocking thing about this game, specifically, though, is the fact that Atlanta is 0-3 at home.
- 50:32SPEAKER_00: I usually feel like they play pretty well in um the Mercedes-Benz dome in Atlanta, but not so far this season.
- 50:40SPEAKER_00: They're 0-3.
- 50:41SPEAKER_00: Um, obviously, two of those games came with Cooper Rush starting, and they put on pretty poor performances in both of those games.
- 50:49SPEAKER_00: Um, and then also got to give some love to Kyler Gordon, the corner for the Chicago Bears in this Dennis Allen defense.
- 50:57SPEAKER_00: He gave up a few plays to Drake London in this game, but for the most part, absolutely shut down Drake London.
- 51:04SPEAKER_00: He only had four catches on 10 targets.
- 51:07SPEAKER_00: Um, so he was getting tested, and he really held his own over there with Drake London.
- 51:12SPEAKER_00: Um, impressive win for the Bears.
- 51:14SPEAKER_00: They are now four and two.
- 51:15SPEAKER_00: The Falcons dropped to two and four on the season.
- 51:19SPEAKER_00: Um, the Rams, speaking of two and four, not only are they losing games, but they are losing players left and right.
- 51:27SPEAKER_00: They went into this game already missing Miles Garrett.
- 51:30SPEAKER_00: They left this game without Devontae Adams, who was out for up to 10 weeks potentially.
- 51:36SPEAKER_00: Um, six to ten weeks was the rumor on that hamstring injury for Devontae Adams.
- 51:41SPEAKER_00: They also lost Pune Ford.
- 51:43SPEAKER_00: Um, and then I saw as well that the Rams also suffered another defensive line injury.
- 51:50SPEAKER_00: I'm pulling it up here, getting research on that one.
- 51:53SPEAKER_00: Um, but a a porous, porous performance um from the Los Angeles Rams in this game.
- 52:02SPEAKER_00: Uh Kobe Turner was the other injury that they uh suffered in this game.
- 52:07SPEAKER_00: And you know, when you look at the box score, when you look at how this game played out, this was a field goal contest.
- 52:14SPEAKER_00: Uh, Arizona actually did not score a touchdown on offense or defense.
- 52:19SPEAKER_00: They scored six count them six field goals from Chad Rylan.
- 52:24SPEAKER_00: He went six for six.
- 52:25SPEAKER_00: His longest field goal was 43 yards.
- 52:27SPEAKER_00: So clearly, Arizona was getting down the field, unable to finish these drives.
- 52:32SPEAKER_00: This seems like a game that the Rams would typically have no issue with.
- 52:37SPEAKER_00: They were able to hold their opponent to field goals instead of touchdowns.
- 52:42SPEAKER_00: But there are some real issues with this Rams offense.
- 52:46SPEAKER_00: Um, Stafford was 25 of 33 in this game for 222 yards with two touchdowns, so not a terrible stat line.
- 52:54SPEAKER_00: Um, they ran the ball just 20 times, though, and in what was never a game where they were losing by much.
- 53:00SPEAKER_00: They ran the ball 20 times for 92 yards.
- 53:04SPEAKER_00: Um, Corum had nine carries, Kyron Williams had 10, so pretty even split there.
- 53:09SPEAKER_00: Um, I mentioned that Devante had to leave this game, so they were working with guys like Colby Parkinson, Kanata Mumfield, Puka Nakua, um taking on the lion share of the targets there for the offense.
- 53:21SPEAKER_00: But there's just not a lot of creativity in what the Rams are doing.
- 53:25SPEAKER_00: That um it's it they are really limited by these injuries, honestly.
- 53:32SPEAKER_00: Um, and by the play calling right now, you know, I I give Sean McVeigh as much credit as anybody in the NFL.
- 53:39SPEAKER_00: Uh, but this has been a pretty poor start from the Rams.
- 53:44SPEAKER_00: Um, when you when you look at all of the games they played in totality, they you know were down 10 in the fourth quarter to the Eagles, but squeaked out a win there.
- 53:53SPEAKER_00: Um, they blew a 16 to nothing lead against the Broncos and lost in Denver.
- 54:00SPEAKER_00: They beat the the Giants 28-6, where their quarterback got hurt on the first play of the game.
- 54:06SPEAKER_00: And then the Bills game, where they decided not to put the ball in Matthew Stafford's hands and ended up losing that game in overtime to the Bills 37 to 34.
- 54:16SPEAKER_00: So just a number of tough results for the Rams.
- 54:20SPEAKER_00: They are two and four.
- 54:21SPEAKER_00: I by no means am going to say that they are done or toast at this point.
- 54:27SPEAKER_00: There's still a lot of room in front of the Rams to be able to rebound and and pick things up.
- 54:32SPEAKER_00: Um, but really, you know, things have to happen now.
- 54:36SPEAKER_00: You know, thing they have to start winning some of these games now.
- 54:39SPEAKER_00: They have a big matchup set up this week with the Las Vegas Raiders.
- 54:44SPEAKER_00: So um it really needs to begin this week.
- 54:48SPEAKER_00: Um, and we'll see if it does.
- 54:50SPEAKER_00: There are a there is another team in Los Angeles that shares the stadium with um those same Los Angeles Rams I just was talking about, and that is the LA Chargers.
- 55:03SPEAKER_00: And maybe there's something in the water fountains there in SoFi Stadium because the Chargers are 0-6, and they look like roadkill right now.
- 55:14SPEAKER_00: They look like a dead animal on the road that has been run over and passed by all day, and there's no hope in sight.
- 55:24SPEAKER_00: This offensive line is terrible.
- 55:26SPEAKER_00: They do not run the ball at all.
- 55:29SPEAKER_00: They, you know, I'm looking at the box score.
- 55:31SPEAKER_00: Kamani Vidal had seven carries for 21 yards.
- 55:34SPEAKER_00: Omarion Hampton had seven carries for 18 yards.
- 55:37SPEAKER_00: Justin Herbert was the leading rusher in this game.
- 55:39SPEAKER_00: He had five carries for 26 yards.
- 55:42SPEAKER_00: That's just never going to be good enough, especially when you look on the other side.
- 55:46SPEAKER_00: When Kenneth Walker, the third, was 19 for 128 and two touchdowns.
- 55:51SPEAKER_00: Um, Mahomes was 23 of 30 with 272 in this game.
- 55:55SPEAKER_00: Xavier Worthy had a really nice game.
- 55:57SPEAKER_00: Um, but man, the wheels have completely fallen off uh for the Chargers roster.
- 56:04SPEAKER_00: Uh, a team that I was pretty high on coming into this season.
- 56:07SPEAKER_00: I thought maybe they could finally get things figured out in the in LA uh with Herbert, with Harbaugh, with that crew of characters along their offensive and defensive lines.
- 56:20SPEAKER_00: But man, has it not happened?
- 56:22SPEAKER_00: Man, has it not worked out.
- 56:23SPEAKER_00: This has been the most disappointing start to a season uh out of any team um this entire NFL season so far, through six weeks.
- 56:32SPEAKER_00: A brutal loss.
- 56:33SPEAKER_00: I don't have a lot of takeaways here from the Chiefs.
- 56:35SPEAKER_00: They did kind of what I expected them to do in this situation.
- 56:39SPEAKER_00: They are unfeated, so that is a huge um early mark for the Chiefs in Patrick Mahomes' return from that ACL injury.
- 56:48SPEAKER_00: They are 5-0.
- 56:49SPEAKER_00: They are 3-0 at home.
- 56:51SPEAKER_00: Um, they are not the only undefeated team.
- 56:53SPEAKER_00: The San Francisco 49ers, they squeaked out a win against the Washington Commanders on Monday night football.
- 57:01SPEAKER_00: Another close, close loss for Jaden Daniels and the Washington Commanders.
- 57:07SPEAKER_00: Um, Jaden actually played tremendous in this game.
- 57:10SPEAKER_00: He was 29 of 40 um for 300 yards and two touchdowns.
- 57:14SPEAKER_00: But what really held Washington back was the end of game execution yet again.
- 57:21SPEAKER_00: Um, Brock Purdy was exceptional in this game, 21 of 29, 264, and a touchdown.
- 57:27SPEAKER_00: He also had five carries for 28 rushing yards.
- 57:30SPEAKER_00: Christian McCavry chipped in two rushing touchdowns as well.
- 57:34SPEAKER_00: But the story of this really is the fact that the 49ers continued to find ways to win.
- 57:40SPEAKER_00: They had four sacks in this game.
- 57:42SPEAKER_00: Um, I as I mentioned, they also got critical stops late in this game on defense.
- 57:48SPEAKER_00: Um, San Francisco was held to just three points in the second half by that commander's defense, but it was no matter for the San Francisco 49ers defense.
- 57:58SPEAKER_00: They were able to hold the line uh and hold Washington at just 14 points in the second half and get out of there at 6 0.
- 58:08SPEAKER_00: Uh last game from week six before we get into our week seven picks and previews.
- 58:13SPEAKER_00: Uh, great game between the Las Vegas Raiders and the Buffalo Bills.
- 58:17SPEAKER_00: Um, Buffalo survived this game 33 to 30.
- 58:21SPEAKER_00: Uh, but but it never really felt like Vegas was out of this.
- 58:24SPEAKER_00: I know Buffalo kept extending the lead.
- 58:27SPEAKER_00: They Vegas would answer, Buffalo would respond again.
- 58:31SPEAKER_00: But a great uh performance from both of these quarterbacks.
- 58:35SPEAKER_00: Kirk Cousins continues to just absolutely rip it every single week.
- 58:39SPEAKER_00: Um, Josh Allen, you know, what else was there to say about him?
- 58:43SPEAKER_00: He had 255 yards, two touchdowns.
- 58:46SPEAKER_00: Um, he let James Cook score uh for an occasion this week.
- 58:51SPEAKER_00: James Cook had 95 yards and a touchdown himself.
- 58:54SPEAKER_00: Keon Coleman looks like a brand new receiver.
- 58:58SPEAKER_00: Another touchdown in this game, four catches for 59 yards and a touchdown.
- 59:02SPEAKER_00: Um, and like I said, uh a really impressive performance from the Las Vegas Raiders.
- 59:07SPEAKER_00: They scored 17 points in the fourth quarter, um, would not go away quietly at home.
- 59:14SPEAKER_00: Um, they were able to get back in and cover the spread on this game, get an exciting finish where they were actually able to go for an onside kick at the end of this game.
- 59:23SPEAKER_00: Um, really, really fun game there between Vegas and Buffalo.
- 59:28SPEAKER_00: So now we have to move on to week seven and do our tail, the tailgate picks and all of our analysis for the games this week.
- 59:36SPEAKER_00: So let's start with Thursday night football.
- 59:38SPEAKER_00: The four and two Patriots travel to the four and two Chicago Bears.
- 59:43SPEAKER_00: Chicago is a three-point favorite heading into this game with the over-under set at 50 and a half.
- 59:50SPEAKER_00: What I think about this game, normally I tend to lean towards lower scoring Thursday night matchups.
- 59:56SPEAKER_00: Um, but both of these teams seem to be kind of hitting their stride on offense right now.
- 1:00:01SPEAKER_00: Obviously, Caleb just had his first game back in Atlanta last weekend.
- 1:00:05SPEAKER_00: The Patriots have played two good games in a row, albeit against lesser competition on defense, the Jets and the Raiders.
- 1:00:12SPEAKER_00: But Drake May is starting to um show signs of what we saw last year from Drake May.
- 1:00:20SPEAKER_00: But what I'm gonna lean towards in this game is points.
- 1:00:24SPEAKER_00: Normally, I I would say that you know, Thursday night games are gonna be a little bit more lower scoring.
- 1:00:30SPEAKER_00: Um, I'm gonna take the Bears to win this game.
- 1:00:33SPEAKER_00: I I think they have a lot of advantages on offense right now.
- 1:00:37SPEAKER_00: Um I still think the Patriots are trying to work in AJ Brown, and I trust Dennis Allen's defense at home to get critical stops and force turnovers.
- 1:00:48SPEAKER_00: So I'm gonna roll with the Bears in this game on Thursday night football.
- 1:00:52SPEAKER_00: Let's move to the AFC North, get out of the NFC North with the Bears, get over to the AFC North, the three-and-two Bengals fresh off of their bye week, travel to Baltimore to take on the four-and-two Baltimore Ravens, fresh off of a tough loss to um the Cleveland Browns uh last weekend.
- 1:01:12SPEAKER_00: Uh Cleveland was able to improve to four and two on the season.
- 1:01:18SPEAKER_00: Um and in this game, we should expect to see uh Lamar Jackson come back for this one.
- 1:01:27SPEAKER_00: I I would also anticipate seeing a very refreshed Bengals offense led by Joe Burrow.
- 1:01:34SPEAKER_00: Um, the Ravens, as I said, are three-point favorites in this game.
- 1:01:37SPEAKER_00: The over-under is set at 51 and a half.
- 1:01:40SPEAKER_00: I'm gonna go with the Bengals here.
- 1:01:42SPEAKER_00: I think they're gonna be fresher.
- 1:01:44SPEAKER_00: Um, I do think that this could be a very, very entertaining game, a very high-scoring game back and forth.
- 1:01:51SPEAKER_00: Um, maybe more from this game to come as we get to the tail the tailgate picks.
- 1:01:57SPEAKER_00: Um, let's keep it moving, keep it rolling.
- 1:01:59SPEAKER_00: The four and two Green Bay Packers.
- 1:02:01SPEAKER_00: Let's go back to the NFC North.
- 1:02:03SPEAKER_00: They travel for a divisional matchup to Detroit to forward field to take on the three-and-two Detroit Lions.
- 1:02:10SPEAKER_00: Detroit is a three-point favorite.
- 1:02:12SPEAKER_00: The over-under is set at 53 and a half.
- 1:02:15SPEAKER_00: I do not trust the Green Bay Packers.
- 1:02:18SPEAKER_00: That is as simple as I'll make it.
- 1:02:20SPEAKER_00: I think that they continue to win games and they continue to uh win games with good coaching, which is a credit to LaFleur and that coaching staff there.
- 1:02:31SPEAKER_00: Um, their defense, I think, is better than I want to give them credit for, and will only get better as this season goes on, getting guys like Lucas Van Ness rolling, and then once they get Micah Parsons into the mix, things will dramatically change for that defense.
- 1:02:46SPEAKER_00: I don't know when that could happen.
- 1:02:48SPEAKER_00: Um, I haven't seen any rumblings of him being activated off the pub list yet.
- 1:02:53SPEAKER_00: Uh, but in this matchup, I trust the Lions offense at home much more than I trust the Packers' offense in Ford Field.
- 1:03:01SPEAKER_00: Give me the Lions to win this game at home against the Packers.
- 1:03:05SPEAKER_00: Uh, that takes us to Sunday night football.
- 1:03:08SPEAKER_00: The Chiefs in their 5-0 record, they travel out to Seattle, where Seattle kind of had an extended bye week, a mini bye.
- 1:03:15SPEAKER_00: They played on Thursday in Denver last week, and now they host another AFC West opponent, the Kansas City Chiefs.
- 1:03:22SPEAKER_00: Seattle is a two and a half point home favorite.
- 1:03:25SPEAKER_00: The over-under is set at 42 and a half.
- 1:03:27SPEAKER_00: And simply enough, I think this is a bounce back spot for the Seattle Seahawks.
- 1:03:32SPEAKER_00: I think that team plays exceptionally well at home.
- 1:03:36SPEAKER_00: I think that defense feeds off of the 12th man at home.
- 1:03:39SPEAKER_00: And I think finally we see some um regression for Kenneth Walker and his return to Seattle.
- 1:03:45SPEAKER_00: I'm gonna pick the Seahawks here in this big Sunday night football matchup between the Chiefs and the Seahawks.
- 1:03:53SPEAKER_00: We have an international game taking place in Paris.
- 1:03:57SPEAKER_00: Paradise, France.
- 1:03:59SPEAKER_00: Uh Pittsburgh and the Saints, the 4-2 Steelers in the 2-4 Saints.
- 1:04:04SPEAKER_00: Pittsburgh is a three and a half point favorite in this international contest with the over-under set at 44 and a half.
- 1:04:11SPEAKER_00: I trust the Saints.
- 1:04:13SPEAKER_00: I know what the records say, but I trust the Saints way more than I trust the Steelers on offense.
- 1:04:18SPEAKER_00: Tyler Shuck in the Saints offense.
- 1:04:22SPEAKER_00: Give me that team every day over Aaron Rodgers and what I continue to see from that Steelers offensive line.
- 1:04:28SPEAKER_00: I'm gonna take the Saints to win this big international game.
- 1:04:32SPEAKER_00: Give me the Saints because when the Saints go marching in.
- 1:04:37SPEAKER_00: Oh, when the Saints go march in wins.
- 1:04:41SPEAKER_00: And let's move on and get to the next game where the 6-0 San Francisco 49ers and their undefeated record, they traveled to Atlanta to take on the 2-4 Atlanta Falcons.
- 1:04:54SPEAKER_00: Um, I think that this is just a tough travel spot.
- 1:04:58SPEAKER_00: San Francisco played Monday night a close game that they were fighting until the very end.
- 1:05:03SPEAKER_00: Uh, they looked a little sluggish at the end of that game.
- 1:05:06SPEAKER_00: I think they are just due for some regression, and I think Atlanta is finally due for some positive regression at home in Mercedes-Benz dome.
- 1:05:15SPEAKER_00: I just mentioned that they are 0-3 at home on the season.
- 1:05:18SPEAKER_00: I'm gonna take the Falcons to win this game and kind of an upset.
- 1:05:21SPEAKER_00: They are three-point dogs, the over-under set at 50 and a half.
- 1:05:24SPEAKER_00: I could see this being a higher scoring game.
- 1:05:27SPEAKER_00: I could see Bichon getting his, I could see CMC getting his, but I like the Falcons at home in Mercedes-Benz for the travel aspect, um, for the bounce back aspect for the Falcons as well.
- 1:05:40SPEAKER_00: Uh and then the Colts, the two and four Colts, they kind of made some news already this week on Monday by letting go of their 10 year uh tenured general manager Chris Ballard.
- 1:05:55SPEAKER_00: Um, you know, his fate really got tied to that Daniel.
- 1:06:00SPEAKER_00: Jones contract extension slash sauce gardener trades that took place last year where they committed.
- 1:06:07SPEAKER_00: They started last season 8-2.
- 1:06:09SPEAKER_00: They have since then won two games.
- 1:06:12SPEAKER_00: They just lost to the 0-5 and previously winless Tennessee Titans at home.
- 1:06:19SPEAKER_00: It was no surprise to me.
- 1:06:21SPEAKER_00: I was honestly kind of surprised he wasn't fired heading into the season.
- 1:06:24SPEAKER_00: I talked about it with Tony Wiggins on the AFC South podcast that earlier in the offseason, Chris Ballard was talking about the pressure that he might be other, and he was almost shocked in that press conference.
- 1:06:35SPEAKER_00: He just gave such a smug answer.
- 1:06:47SPEAKER_00: You know, I thought he was doing an exceptional job, if I'm going to be honest.
- 1:06:51SPEAKER_00: I thought he was doing great.
- 1:06:53SPEAKER_00: I thought he was really building a contender, especially on offense, especially the way that Chris Ballard was able to identify quarterbacks.
- 1:07:00SPEAKER_00: Enough kidding aside, it has been terrible.
- 1:07:03SPEAKER_00: Um they've had different starting quarterbacks every single year, other than the last two years since Chris Ballard has been the GM.
- 1:07:11SPEAKER_00: They have rolled out a different week one starting quarterback year after year, except for last year and this year with Daniel Jones.
- 1:07:19SPEAKER_00: And that's where his fate was tied.
- 1:07:21SPEAKER_00: That's where his fate lied, and that is how he died.
- 1:07:25SPEAKER_00: That is Chris Ballard's fate.
- 1:07:27SPEAKER_00: The two and four Colts, they travel to the 5-0 Minnesota Vikings.
- 1:07:31SPEAKER_00: The Vikings are six and a half point favorites.
- 1:07:33SPEAKER_00: The over-under set at 41.5, giving the Vikings no explanation needed.
- 1:07:38SPEAKER_00: They are the best defense in the NFL.
- 1:07:40SPEAKER_00: Daniel Jones cannot run right now, and they are the highest pressure rate team in the NFL.
- 1:07:45SPEAKER_00: They blitz at the highest percentage of any team in the NFL, led by defensive coordinator Brian Flores, who we continue to heap praise on on the Tailgate Cam podcast.
- 1:07:55SPEAKER_00: Give me the Vikings at home.
- 1:07:56SPEAKER_00: I think they cover.
- 1:07:57SPEAKER_00: I think the under hits.
- 1:07:58SPEAKER_00: I'm taking the Vikings all day long here against the Colts.
- 1:08:03SPEAKER_00: The 2-4 Rams, we just talked about them.
- 1:08:06SPEAKER_00: They have significant injuries on offense, significant injuries on defense.
- 1:08:12SPEAKER_00: They travel to a pesky Raiders team that is 3-3 on the season.
- 1:08:16SPEAKER_00: The Rams are four and a half point road favorites.
- 1:08:19SPEAKER_00: The over-under is set at 48 and a half.
- 1:08:22SPEAKER_00: And I'll tell you what, they better have an answer for Brock Bowers.
- 1:08:26SPEAKER_00: I'm going to take the Raiders in this game.
- 1:08:28SPEAKER_00: I keep picking the Raiders.
- 1:08:29SPEAKER_00: They keep playing these tough teams really well, with the exception of that Patriots game.
- 1:08:35SPEAKER_00: But I'm going to pick the Raiders here.
- 1:08:37SPEAKER_00: I think that they are a live dog.
- 1:08:38SPEAKER_00: I think the Rams might be reeling.
- 1:08:41SPEAKER_00: I, you know, had the Rams in the Super Bowl before the season, like many others.
- 1:08:47SPEAKER_00: So for their sake and for my prediction's sake, I hope the Rams turn this around.
- 1:08:53SPEAKER_00: I think the Raiders are a pesky uh spot right here for an upset.
- 1:08:59SPEAKER_00: I'm going to take the Raiders to win this game.
- 1:09:01SPEAKER_00: So let's go through the rest of the remaining games before we get into our tail the tailgate picks.
- 1:09:07SPEAKER_00: Let's start with the 4-2 Cleveland Browns traveling to the 1-5 Titans fresh off of their first win on the season.
- 1:09:13SPEAKER_00: Cleveland is a one and a half point favorite.
- 1:09:15SPEAKER_00: I'm going to pick the Titans to win this game at home, keep that momentum rolling.
- 1:09:20SPEAKER_00: Think there is some regression in line for Deshaun Watson and the Browns.
- 1:09:25SPEAKER_00: The 0-5 Dolphins, they travel to the 2-4 Jets, where the Jets are four and a half point favorites.
- 1:09:30SPEAKER_00: I'm going to take the Jets here.
- 1:09:32SPEAKER_00: I think the Jets are a live dog than most people will give them credit for with Geno Smith, Braylon Allen, and that offense.
- 1:09:40SPEAKER_00: I like Garrett Wilson there.
- 1:09:42SPEAKER_00: I like uh Mason Taylor.
- 1:09:44SPEAKER_00: I like Adonna Mitchell, um, who I've seen uh is hurt, but it's possible that he could play as he's a limited participant in practice today.
- 1:09:53SPEAKER_00: Um but I'm gonna take the Jets there in that AFC East matchup.
- 1:09:56SPEAKER_00: Let's go down to the NFC South where the one and five Bucks.
- 1:10:00SPEAKER_00: Unlikely to still see uh Baker Mayfield in this game, but it's possible.
- 1:10:04SPEAKER_00: Uh they travel to the 3-2 Carolina Panthers, where the Panthers are three and a half point favorites.
- 1:10:10SPEAKER_00: The over-under set at 44.5.
- 1:10:12SPEAKER_00: Give me the Panthers at home.
- 1:10:14SPEAKER_00: Get Sir Per pound in that drum.
- 1:10:17SPEAKER_00: Let's go Panthers.
- 1:10:18SPEAKER_00: Keep it pounding.
- 1:10:19SPEAKER_00: Let's go, Panthers.
- 1:10:20SPEAKER_00: Three and two Giants.
- 1:10:22SPEAKER_00: Uh, they are rolling with new quarterback JJ McCarthy.
- 1:10:26SPEAKER_00: Jameis Winston is heading back to the bench.
- 1:10:30SPEAKER_00: The Giants are traveling to the two and four Texans.
- 1:10:34SPEAKER_00: The Texans are 10-point home favorites following that win against the Jags in London.
- 1:10:40SPEAKER_00: The over-under set at 42 and a half.
- 1:10:42SPEAKER_00: I'm going to roll with the Texans here.
- 1:10:44SPEAKER_00: I do not like this angle for JJ McCarthy getting his first start for a Texans defense that desperately needs to play better.
- 1:10:52SPEAKER_00: They have not played well all season.
- 1:10:55SPEAKER_00: I'm going to take the Texans here at home.
- 1:10:58SPEAKER_00: The four and two Broncos, they travel out to the desert in Phoenix, Glendale, Arizona, where they are four and a half point road favorites.
- 1:11:07SPEAKER_00: The Broncos are favorite on the road with an over-under set at 43 and a half.
- 1:11:12SPEAKER_00: The simple thing here is the Cardinals got a exceptional win last week against the Rams.
- 1:11:30SPEAKER_00: But I'm going to pick Denver here.
- 1:11:32SPEAKER_00: I think the Cardinals could be sort of a live dog here, given that the spread is four and a half.
- 1:11:38SPEAKER_00: But I'm going to pick Denver.
- 1:11:40SPEAKER_00: I just think that their defense is too good.
- 1:11:42SPEAKER_00: I think they shut down anything that the Cardinals try to do on offense.
- 1:11:46SPEAKER_00: And that takes us to our Monday night football matchup between the two and four Cowboys and the two and four Eagles.
- 1:11:53SPEAKER_00: Look, somebody from this division needs to win a game finally.
- 1:11:56SPEAKER_00: Two weeks in a row.
- 1:11:58SPEAKER_00: That's never happened before in the history of the NFL.
- 1:12:01SPEAKER_00: Two weeks in a row, an entire division went winless when every single team played both games, both weeks.
- 1:12:09SPEAKER_00: Just an incredible feat of disappointment for the NFC East.
- 1:12:14SPEAKER_00: But the two and four Cowboys, they are four and a half point road favorites at Philadelphia in the two and four Eagles.
- 1:12:21SPEAKER_00: The story here is Jalen Hurts.
- 1:12:23SPEAKER_00: Um he has now been ruled out for the season.
- 1:12:26SPEAKER_00: Obviously, on our podcast last week, Brandon and I mentioned that Jalen Hurts would not be playing against the Panthers this past weekend.
- 1:12:34SPEAKER_00: And then it came out that these superficial blood clots that they discovered in his lungs were a more serious matter than they initially anticipated.
- 1:12:42SPEAKER_00: And he has been ruled out for the entire season.
- 1:12:45SPEAKER_00: So a lot of questions sitting up in the air for the Philadelphia Eagles.
- 1:12:49SPEAKER_00: They are starting backup quarterback Tanner McKee.
- 1:12:53SPEAKER_00: I'm going to take the Cowboys.
- 1:12:55SPEAKER_00: They have to find a way to get stops on defense.
- 1:12:58SPEAKER_00: If they can't get stops against Tanner McKee on Monday night football, they're not going to get stops against anybody.
- 1:13:03SPEAKER_00: Give me the Cowboys.
- 1:13:05SPEAKER_00: This is the Alamo for the Cowboys.
- 1:13:07SPEAKER_00: You guys have to win this game.
- 1:13:09SPEAKER_00: Give me Dallas on the road on Monday night football.
- 1:13:13SPEAKER_00: And now it is time to tail the tailgate for the NFL.
- 1:13:18SPEAKER_00: Our year-to-date record is a glorious 28-20 through six weeks.
- 1:13:24SPEAKER_00: We are plus 4.45 units.
- 1:13:27SPEAKER_00: Last week we juiced out a little bit.
- 1:13:29SPEAKER_00: We went 4-4 down negative 0.7 units.
- 1:13:34SPEAKER_00: So not the best week, not the worst.
- 1:13:36SPEAKER_00: We'll certainly take 4-4 over a worser outcome.
- 1:13:40SPEAKER_00: But Brandon, my my guest last week, I got to give him a shout out.
- 1:13:43SPEAKER_00: He was 5-3.
- 1:13:45SPEAKER_00: He was up 1.75 units on his picks.
- 1:13:49SPEAKER_00: Some of his wins last week were the Panthers first quarter, um, the Titans plus seven.
- 1:13:54SPEAKER_00: They won outright.
- 1:13:55SPEAKER_00: The Saints and the Bears on the money lines, they both won.
- 1:13:59SPEAKER_00: And then his Chiefs, Bills Parlay, took him home to get to a five and three record.
- 1:14:04SPEAKER_00: And he is currently the highest ranked guest so far on the season, slightly edging out Nate Smith and his 1.6 units that he had in week one.
- 1:14:17SPEAKER_00: So now it is time for our tail the tailgate picks for week seven.
- 1:14:21SPEAKER_00: So let's get to it.
- 1:14:22SPEAKER_00: My first pick, I already talked about it.
- 1:14:24SPEAKER_00: The Cleveland Browns uh traveling to Tennessee to take on Cam Ward and the Titans.
- 1:14:30SPEAKER_00: This is not an endorsement of Cam Ward.
- 1:14:33SPEAKER_00: This is a, you know, a disavowment of what I've seen from the Cleveland Browns in their four-and-two record.
- 1:14:39SPEAKER_00: I think they have a giant fraud stamp written across their forehead.
- 1:14:44SPEAKER_00: I'm going to take the Titans on the money line as home dogs plus 108.
- 1:14:50SPEAKER_00: I also mentioned Sunday night football.
- 1:14:53SPEAKER_00: The Chiefs traveling out to Seattle to take on the defending Super Bowl champions.
- 1:14:58SPEAKER_00: I think this sets up well for a bounce back off of that mini buy for Seattle.
- 1:15:03SPEAKER_00: Um they played last Thursday, so they got about a 10-day break, and then they play in another night game.
- 1:15:10SPEAKER_00: Some travel here involved for the Chiefs getting out to Seattle and playing on the West Coast.
- 1:15:15SPEAKER_00: Give me the Seahawks money line.
- 1:15:17SPEAKER_00: Uh moving over to the uh Vikings and the Colts, fresh off of firing their leader of their front office, Jim Chris Ballard, and taking on one of the best defenses in the NFL.
- 1:15:29SPEAKER_00: I'm going to take the Colts team total under 17 and a half against the Vikings on the road.
- 1:15:36SPEAKER_00: I don't trust it.
- 1:15:38SPEAKER_00: I'm out on it.
- 1:15:39SPEAKER_00: Give me the under team total for the Colts.
- 1:15:41SPEAKER_00: I mentioned that I thought this game could be sort of high scoring between the Bengals and the Ravens.
- 1:15:47SPEAKER_00: We expect to see Lamar Jackson back on the field for the Ravens.
- 1:15:50SPEAKER_00: The the Bengals fresh off of a bye should have a healthy T.
- 1:15:54SPEAKER_00: Higgins, should have a healthy Jamar Chase.
- 1:15:56SPEAKER_00: I'm going to take the over 51.
- 1:15:58SPEAKER_00: I like uh this number for a couple reasons because it is a key number.
- 1:16:03SPEAKER_00: Um, you could get this with a 34 to um 20 win, um, a 31 to 23 win gets the job done.
- 1:16:10SPEAKER_00: I think that that's kind of the expected range of outcomes that we'll see here in this AFC North clash.
- 1:16:16SPEAKER_00: Give me the over between Cincinnati and Baltimore.
- 1:16:20SPEAKER_00: I also talked about on Thursday night that I thought that this game could be a higher scoring game.
- 1:16:27SPEAKER_00: My specific angle, I don't know that I like the entire game uh over given that it's at 50 and a half.
- 1:16:33SPEAKER_00: But what I do like is the Bears' first half team total over 13 and a half.
- 1:16:39SPEAKER_00: I think they come out with a plan.
- 1:16:41SPEAKER_00: I think they started the game strong last week.
- 1:16:43SPEAKER_00: I think they start the game strong this week.
- 1:16:45SPEAKER_00: I think Ben Johnson is one of the most skilled play callers in the NFL, especially scripting his opening drives.
- 1:16:52SPEAKER_00: Give me the Bears' first half team total over 13 and a half.
- 1:16:56SPEAKER_00: The Falcons uh hosting the San Francisco 49ers and their undefeated 6-0 record.
- 1:17:02SPEAKER_00: I said that I thought they could bounce back, and I believe that it's true.
- 1:17:05SPEAKER_00: I'm putting my money where my mouth is.
- 1:17:08SPEAKER_00: Give me the Falcons plus three at home.
- 1:17:10SPEAKER_00: I think there's potential for them to get an upset, but I like them better to cover.
- 1:17:15SPEAKER_00: And then the Raiders.
- 1:17:16SPEAKER_00: I I think that the Rams are teetering with uh a dangerous spot to be in on this season.
- 1:17:24SPEAKER_00: They are four and a half point road favorites here.
- 1:17:26SPEAKER_00: I'm gonna take the Raiders to cover that spread at home, but for the sake of Rams fans everywhere and our dear friend Nate Smith, who listens to this podcast, I hope that the Raiders cover and the Rams win.
- 1:17:40SPEAKER_00: I mean, they have a lot to overcome here.
- 1:17:43SPEAKER_00: I'm taking the Raiders plus four and a half.
- 1:17:45SPEAKER_00: And then our last pick, I mentioned JJ McCarthy would be starting on the road against Houston.
- 1:17:51SPEAKER_00: I think Houston might be a little sluggish in this game, given that they are traveling back from their um London game against the Jags.
- 1:17:58SPEAKER_00: I'm gonna take the under 42 and a half uh between the Texans and the Giants.
- 1:18:02SPEAKER_00: So just to recap all of our NFL picks, Titans on the money line, Seahawks on the money line, Colts team total under 17 and a half, Bengals, Ravens over 51, Bears first half team total over 13.5, Falcons plus three, Raiders plus four and a half, and the Texans Giants under 42 and a half.
- 1:18:26SPEAKER_00: Man, so that is our show for today.
- 1:18:28SPEAKER_00: So it's time to wrap up with our gold star of the week.
- 1:18:32SPEAKER_00: We got to go to the NBA.
- 1:18:34SPEAKER_00: We got some NBA games finally with final results.
- 1:18:37SPEAKER_00: Former NBA NBA MVP Shea Gilges Alexander and the team who owned the best record in the NBA season started their campaign against uh the defending Western Conference champion San Antonio Spurs and Victor Wimbenama.
- 1:18:52SPEAKER_00: They had revenge on their mind to account for that Western Conference Finals loss that the Thunders suffered last year to the Spurs.
- 1:19:00SPEAKER_00: They were led by a great performance from SGA.
- 1:19:03SPEAKER_00: The Thunder defeated the Spurs 116 to 104.
- 1:19:07SPEAKER_00: SGA is my gold star so far of the week.
- 1:19:10SPEAKER_00: He dropped 32 points, six rebounds, and four assists to go with three steals and three blocks.
- 1:19:16SPEAKER_00: A super impressive opening night performance and a massive victory for the Oklahoma City Thunder.
- 1:19:22SPEAKER_00: What to watch this weekend?
- 1:19:24SPEAKER_00: I mentioned Bengals and Ravens.
- 1:19:25SPEAKER_00: I think that is the game of the weekend in the NFL, especially if Lamar comes back.
- 1:19:30SPEAKER_00: I think that is going to be a tremendous matchup on offense for both of those teams.
- 1:19:35SPEAKER_00: Um, also some Trey Hendrickson return uh rivalry back against his old team in the Cincinnati Bengals, now a member of the Baltimore Ravens.
- 1:19:46SPEAKER_00: On the flip side, we also have the opening of the World Series game one starting Friday night, October 23rd at 8 p.m.
- 1:19:54SPEAKER_00: Eastern time between the Tampa Bay Rays and the Milwaukee Brewers.
- 1:19:59SPEAKER_00: And that is our show for the day.
- 1:20:01SPEAKER_00: Thank you so much for everybody that listens to the Tailgate Cam podcast.
