- 0:00Speaker 1: The Force will be with you always. Hello, and welcome
- 0:20Speaker 1: back to another episode of Star Wars Alliance. Of course,
- 0:23Speaker 1: I'm your host, Clay and with me like every single week.
- 0:28Speaker 1: Of course, is Katie, Katie, how you doing?
- 0:31Speaker 2: Hello, everybody, it's chaos.
- 0:35Speaker 3: Hopefully y'all can't see this, but this is hopefully the
- 0:38Speaker 3: last podcast from my parents house before we officially moved in.
- 0:44Speaker 1: So yeah, it won't be the last for me. I uh,
- 0:49Speaker 1: we're still looking. It's hard out here in Texas. But also, guys,
- 0:53Speaker 1: we have to kind of make this quick because we're
- 0:55Speaker 1: kind of running on a clock of Katie's headphones. Technology
- 1:01Speaker 1: is not on our side today.
- 1:03Speaker 3: My headphones got used this weekend and raycons apparently don't
- 1:06Speaker 3: like to be used while they're being charged.
- 1:08Speaker 2: So it is so.
- 1:13Speaker 1: As far as news, of course, this is our weekly show,
- 1:17Speaker 1: even though we are pre recording this, there is not
- 1:22Speaker 1: a whole lot of news. There is one piece of
- 1:25Speaker 1: speculation and then one that is just one of our
- 1:30Speaker 1: you know, little fun little leaks. As you can say,
- 1:35Speaker 1: it's not really a leak because it's posted on an
- 1:37Speaker 1: actual website without any more information. But there is a
- 1:43Speaker 1: book that is speculated to either be announced here at
- 1:49Speaker 1: San Diego Comic Con or sometime in the near future.
- 1:55Speaker 1: I tweeted the picture to Katie the other day. The
- 2:00Speaker 1: title of this book is going to be called Star
- 2:06Speaker 1: Wars Twin Crossroads. First thing Katie said was, is this
- 2:14Speaker 1: Leah's Vision spoilers for a future story that you will
- 2:19Speaker 1: be learning soon if you haven't already listened to our
- 2:23Speaker 1: review of last week.
- 2:24Speaker 3: Well, not technically spoilers, because the vision is tough Skywalker.
- 2:30Speaker 1: That's true. They talk about it in this book, but
- 2:32Speaker 1: they but they actually show it, like, yeah, they show
- 2:36Speaker 1: the actual conversation about the vision in the Rise of Skywalker.
- 2:41Speaker 1: Of course, the conversation that we're talking about is when
- 2:45Speaker 1: Luke was training Leah and Leah said, hey, I have
- 2:48Speaker 1: to stop trying to be a Jedi because if I
- 2:50Speaker 1: go forward, my entire lineage will be destroyed. And so
- 2:58Speaker 1: Katie's first speculation was like, oh my god, they're actually
- 3:01Speaker 1: going to make a story about that confrontation between Luke
- 3:04Speaker 1: and Lea and all that. And then what I have
- 3:07Speaker 1: been seeing online on both Instagram on threads I said both,
- 3:13Speaker 1: but all three Instagram, and that's what people are saying.
- 3:19Speaker 1: People are saying that we shouldn't look at the word
- 3:23Speaker 1: twin and we shouldn't take it so literal. So but Star.
- 3:30Speaker 3: Wars Legacy was posted as Star Wars Legacy, yes, and
- 3:34Speaker 3: that was the last one that got announced, was Star
- 3:36Speaker 3: Wars Legacy.
- 3:38Speaker 1: So well, I'm not saying that it won't be twin Crossroads.
- 3:43Speaker 1: But when we see the word twin, we shouldn't think
- 3:48Speaker 1: of Luke and Lea. We should probably look at crossroads.
- 3:52Speaker 1: And there's gonna be two of them, two crossroads, twin crossroads.
- 3:57Speaker 1: That's probably what like I'm looking at it like that's
- 4:02Speaker 1: actually more literal than the actual operation of like twins
- 4:06Speaker 1: as siblings. But that's kind of what I think. I
- 4:10Speaker 1: I I don't think of Luke and lam when I
- 4:12Speaker 1: think of when I see that. So we'll see, we'll
- 4:15Speaker 1: see how all of that turns out. Again, we should
- 4:19Speaker 1: know next week. I was gonna say, Sanheo Comic Con
- 4:21Speaker 1: is literally at the end of this weekend, so we
- 4:26Speaker 1: should see something. We'll keep you made it.
- 4:30Speaker 3: Obviously, we know from prior experience that cons don't always
- 4:33Speaker 3: mean an announcement. But yes, the herring is red.
- 4:39Speaker 1: Yes, and we know because we talked about it last
- 4:42Speaker 1: week that there is going to be two different panels
- 4:46Speaker 1: regarding Star Wars publishing, and one of them being Random
- 4:50Speaker 1: House World. So I think that there's a possibility that
- 4:54Speaker 1: it comes out this week. But that is it, guys,
- 4:58Speaker 1: That is it for the news. Oh well. The other
- 5:01Speaker 1: like speculation is that the Knights of the Older Republic
- 5:07Speaker 1: remake is going to get a re reveal in December
- 5:15Speaker 1: of this year for the Game Awards.
- 5:18Speaker 3: Because you ship the announce games before you're ready to
- 5:21Speaker 3: actually put a release date to him and make them
- 5:24Speaker 3: actually happen, so then you don't have to do two
- 5:26Speaker 3: re reveals and if not three re rebels like Lego
- 5:30Speaker 3: Skywalker did.
- 5:33Speaker 1: Agree, but like it has been a long debate from
- 5:39Speaker 1: actual producers of video games, to fans of video games,
- 5:45Speaker 1: of just everybody encompassed in the industry. Win is too soon?
- 5:53Speaker 1: And when is too late? You know?
- 5:57Speaker 3: So the clips by the stupid CEO guy who's an asshole.
- 6:04Speaker 3: Now it's the Old Republic. Like even Zero Company was
- 6:08Speaker 3: too early. There's three right there, Skywalker Saga four. Skywalker
- 6:16Speaker 3: Saga was way too damn.
- 6:17Speaker 1: Early, Okay, so I have to I have to look
- 6:21Speaker 1: at the release date. What about uh, Galactic.
- 6:25Speaker 3: Racer Galactic Racer, I feel like was reasonable because it
- 6:30Speaker 3: was announced in December of this past year and it's
- 6:32Speaker 3: coming out in October, right, I think.
- 6:34Speaker 1: Oh, it is coming out in October. Yeah, so that's
- 6:38Speaker 1: so so less than a year, you think, is the like, Hey,
- 6:43Speaker 1: this is when you should first announce a game, is
- 6:48Speaker 1: when you are this close to the release date.
- 6:51Speaker 3: So that because then you're a yes, because then you're
- 6:55Speaker 3: also not going to have a bunch of price jumps
- 6:58Speaker 3: like Lego Skywalker Saga did, because Lego Skywalker Second was first, like.
- 7:03Speaker 2: And then it jumped, and then it jumped again.
- 7:06Speaker 1: Yeah, through the through the new Gen Gen consoles and
- 7:11Speaker 1: everything else. That's true. Yeah, yeah, yeah, that's that is
- 7:15Speaker 1: so true. Unfortunately, uh but yeah, that is it for
- 7:20Speaker 1: our news.
- 7:22Speaker 3: That's my opinion on video game stuff as a non
- 7:25Speaker 3: video game person.
- 7:28Speaker 1: This week is another book review. Guys are very quote
- 7:34Speaker 1: unquote first romance novel, Why a romance novel? Yeah? Why
- 7:42Speaker 1: a romance novel titled Eyes Like Stars, And of course
- 7:48Speaker 1: it is rightfully so dealing with the characters that we have.
- 7:54Speaker 3: Katie and it's written by Ashley post It Yes, who,
- 8:00Speaker 3: by the way, is a South Carolinian. So I believe
- 8:04Speaker 3: we have our first South Carolinian Star Wars authors.
- 8:11Speaker 2: Yeah, she was having she was posting all the scenes,
- 8:14Speaker 2: and I was.
- 8:14Speaker 3: Like, does she live in South Carolina because she was
- 8:16Speaker 3: talking about like events and like Charleston and like Greenville,
- 8:19Speaker 3: and I was like, wait a second.
- 8:22Speaker 1: You should talk about possibly getting a signing. Yes.
- 8:27Speaker 3: And by the way, guys, apparently from all of my research,
- 8:33Speaker 3: this book is only coming out physically as a paperback novel,
- 8:39Speaker 3: I guess because of like they're testing the waters with
- 8:45Speaker 3: how this will do with people. But I have only
- 8:49Speaker 3: been able to find a paperback copy of the book.
- 8:53Speaker 3: So just so you guys are aware as something to
- 8:56Speaker 3: be prepared of. Now we are doing this. There's no
- 8:58Speaker 3: embargo date with this one, so we're releasing this with
- 9:03Speaker 3: the release of the book basically.
- 9:04Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 9:05Speaker 2: So, but that shocked me because I was not aware
- 9:09Speaker 2: of that.
- 9:11Speaker 1: So, Katie, my question to you is, well, first, non spoiler,
- 9:23Speaker 1: initial thoughts about this book.
- 9:26Speaker 3: Uh, I loved it and I actually felt like it
- 9:32Speaker 3: was more than I thought it was going to be.
- 9:38Speaker 2: Like I thought this was just gonna be.
- 9:42Speaker 3: A cute side story in Star Wars, but we actually
- 9:49Speaker 3: have like some pretty good cameos.
- 9:56Speaker 4: We have.
- 9:56Speaker 3: We have some cameos, we have some appearances, we have
- 10:08Speaker 3: a mysterious artifact.
- 10:11Speaker 1: Cut that out.
- 10:18Speaker 3: I'm sorry, y'all, I just had to cut that out,
- 10:25Speaker 3: and that maybe go in like a blooper reel or
- 10:28Speaker 3: something after this book, like it's been out for a bit.
- 10:33Speaker 3: But y'all, my life is chaotic right now, and I
- 10:39Speaker 3: am prepared for this. But I also was not super
- 10:42Speaker 3: prepared for this, so I didn't read the Submarine to
- 10:44Speaker 3: find out what the spoilers I needed to hold backward
- 10:47Speaker 3: in the non spoiler portion of the story of the review.
- 10:52Speaker 3: I haven't even had alcohol. Guys, this chaotic right now.
- 10:59Speaker 3: So there's there's a lot of cool things in here
- 11:01Speaker 3: that all tie in to because this book takes place
- 11:07Speaker 3: in roughly the year before the Force awakens, yes, and
- 11:14Speaker 3: so there's a lot of tie in here to kind
- 11:16Speaker 3: of get the ball rolling on some things and tying
- 11:18Speaker 3: it into the greater storyline, which was a lot more
- 11:21Speaker 3: than I thought it was going to be. I thought
- 11:23Speaker 3: we were gonna have some first order appearances, so and
- 11:26Speaker 3: that would be it.
- 11:28Speaker 1: That is one of my like spoilerish non spoiler like
- 11:32Speaker 1: grievances with this book is like every single time I
- 11:38Speaker 1: got like a deep reference to like the future of
- 11:42Speaker 1: Star Wars, I was like sort of a bitch, like
- 11:45Speaker 1: I don't want this. I wanted to be outside, like
- 11:48Speaker 1: I know where in the timeline it is, but I
- 11:50Speaker 1: don't want to deal with any of these characters. We'll
- 11:54Speaker 1: get more into that, yes we will.
- 11:57Speaker 2: But I also didn't think that was necessarily a bad thing.
- 12:01Speaker 3: With how people are nowadays with wanting it in a
- 12:04Speaker 3: greater universe. I actually think it will lend to its favor.
- 12:10Speaker 1: Yes and no, yes, because do they really like the
- 12:18Speaker 1: only real like I guess how do I word this?
- 12:26Speaker 1: Those characters or at least a couple of them, only
- 12:31Speaker 1: affect the story at the literal end of the story, right,
- 12:38Speaker 1: And so for me, I was like, okay, whatever, Like
- 12:45Speaker 1: I got like what this book was promoted as for
- 12:49Speaker 1: the first twenty four chapters. Yeah, like I got like
- 12:56Speaker 1: everything that this book was basically promoted as. And then
- 13:00Speaker 1: they're like, hey, by the way, this is still Star Wars.
- 13:04Speaker 2: Yeah I could see that.
- 13:06Speaker 3: I didn't think really about it because obviously this has
- 13:10Speaker 3: a Star Wars romance novel tag on it, So like
- 13:16Speaker 3: I do think it'll lend to its favor with the
- 13:18Speaker 3: greater audience. But like the different cameos that come in
- 13:25Speaker 3: are gonna be like, oh cool, Like there's enough there where,
- 13:29Speaker 3: Like it feels like a true cameo to an extent,
- 13:32Speaker 3: Like it's not like a oh like I must go
- 13:36Speaker 3: see who this person is. I feel like there's enough
- 13:38Speaker 3: information to really gather and call this a one and
- 13:42Speaker 3: done Star Wars story like for most people. Yeah, I
- 13:47Speaker 3: will also say, because this is this is a non spoiler,
- 13:52Speaker 3: but I would truly consider this book a young adult
- 13:56Speaker 3: book in terms of a romance novel. There's just no spice,
- 14:00Speaker 3: none of that involved. It gets close, it gets close,
- 14:05Speaker 3: but like it's just kissing.
- 14:07Speaker 1: Yes, yes, I will say, let me Uh it's a
- 14:18Speaker 1: young adult But I have in my notes this is
- 14:25Speaker 1: the note number twenty six third canonical shit in Star Wars.
- 14:34Speaker 2: True, there is cursing, uh star Wars, Star Wars cursing and.
- 14:42Speaker 3: Current cursing.
- 14:44Speaker 1: Yeah, it's like modern world cursing, which really threw me
- 14:47Speaker 1: into a loop because there is also My twenty eighth
- 14:50Speaker 1: note is I think this is the first canonical asshole
- 14:55Speaker 1: in Star Wars. It's like like it sometimes takes you out,
- 15:00Speaker 1: and I think that's the reason why they created like
- 15:04Speaker 1: Star Wars like curse words, so that way it could
- 15:08Speaker 1: still feel like in universe and like all of that.
- 15:12Speaker 1: But I understand the idea of like, hey, there's no
- 15:17Speaker 1: other way to say this without really laying it thick
- 15:21Speaker 1: so that the reader understands what I'm saying.
- 15:24Speaker 3: And to be fair, I don't think there's currently a
- 15:28Speaker 3: Star Wars curse word for asshole, Like there's something there's
- 15:34Speaker 3: something close to shit. Yeah, but it's two words. Yep,
- 15:39Speaker 3: it's not one word, so it's it. So to me,
- 15:46Speaker 3: you're merging in things like there's tea, there's actually coffee.
- 15:51Speaker 3: It's not just there's not just calf in Star Wars.
- 15:54Speaker 3: Calf is not coffee for Star Wars, that's actually coffee.
- 15:57Speaker 3: So there's a lot of things that have been kind
- 15:59Speaker 3: of merged where it bridges the sci fi aspect to
- 16:04Speaker 3: where you go, oh okay, like Earth could be here
- 16:07Speaker 3: somewhere there's seven hundred and eighty planets.
- 16:09Speaker 1: Like well, and like I also think more so it
- 16:12Speaker 1: might be a little bit more lenient in a young
- 16:15Speaker 1: adult novel rather than an adult Star Wars top.
- 16:20Speaker 3: And that's fully accurate because you're trying in, especially in
- 16:26Speaker 3: this imprint of a Star Wars young adult romance, like
- 16:30Speaker 3: with how romance is nowadays, you're also trying to appeal
- 16:33Speaker 3: and bring in new readers to Star Wars.
- 16:36Speaker 2: So totally makes sense.
- 16:41Speaker 3: This is also something I would consider non spoilery because
- 16:44Speaker 3: it has nothing to do with the plot of the
- 16:46Speaker 3: book other than the fact that our female main character,
- 16:51Speaker 3: Ardent Quay, who is an eighteen year old, is basically
- 16:56Speaker 3: first mate on a tour ship of the galaxy. Basically
- 17:03Speaker 3: like how the Empire got defeated is like kind of
- 17:06Speaker 3: the theme of the tour ship. They got all like
- 17:09Speaker 3: the different like main locations of how the Empire got
- 17:12Speaker 3: defeated and stuff.
- 17:14Speaker 2: I texted this to Clay.
- 17:17Speaker 3: Uh, but there is a throwaway line about the uh
- 17:22Speaker 3: star cruiser hotel, oh, the galactic star cruiser. Yeah, and
- 17:29Speaker 3: I died laughing.
- 17:33Speaker 2: I was like, I cannot believe that. They said, yeah,
- 17:41Speaker 2: sure you could put that in here.
- 17:43Speaker 3: Like I was dying of laughter so hard when I
- 17:51Speaker 3: texted you that, I laughed for a good ten minutes.
- 17:55Speaker 1: Well, like I read it and I had I did
- 17:58Speaker 1: like a double take. I was like oh, okay, I
- 18:04Speaker 1: mean canonically, I guess that makes sense.
- 18:07Speaker 3: It does now I will say there is a Star
- 18:11Speaker 3: Cruiser comic, and my comics are still packed up. It
- 18:15Speaker 3: will be packed up for another two to three weeks,
- 18:18Speaker 3: so I can't go look at this. But there is
- 18:20Speaker 3: a Star Cruiser part in that that takes place with
- 18:23Speaker 3: the first Order, but they could very easily place that
- 18:27Speaker 3: around the same time because it's about it potentially closing down,
- 18:31Speaker 3: or like the rumor that's closing down.
- 18:33Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 18:34Speaker 2: So again, it's a throw away line.
- 18:39Speaker 3: It's not really gonna mean anything to somebody who doesn't know,
- 18:43Speaker 3: but I found it absolutely hysterical.
- 18:46Speaker 1: Yeah it was. It was funny. I thought it was funny.
- 18:51Speaker 1: I'm trying to think of any other non spoiler that
- 18:56Speaker 1: I wanted here.
- 18:59Speaker 3: Let's so are just as ah. Sorry. Just as a
- 19:06Speaker 3: little more comment about our male main character.
- 19:13Speaker 2: He is his name is Cyan.
- 19:16Speaker 3: We don't know how old he is, but he appears
- 19:18Speaker 3: to be relatively teenage years and he is a Loosien,
- 19:28Speaker 3: which does get confirmed at the end of the book,
- 19:31Speaker 3: but it the Loosom previously has really only been featured
- 19:37Speaker 3: in uh the Higher Republic Adventures so far, so this
- 19:43Speaker 3: is their second appearance here, and it like, if you
- 19:49Speaker 3: read the Higher Republic Adventures, know that like Rue who
- 19:53Speaker 3: is that character was talked about how his eyes were
- 19:58Speaker 3: so black, but then all of his pupils like it
- 20:01Speaker 3: looked like you were staring into the sky. So that
- 20:04Speaker 3: kind of brings in like the eyes like stars vibes.
- 20:09Speaker 2: In there.
- 20:10Speaker 3: And I really enjoyed how Ashley played with a species
- 20:13Speaker 3: that we really haven't known a whole lot about before
- 20:16Speaker 3: the Higher Public Adventures and bring that in. And we
- 20:19Speaker 3: do get some more information about the species towards the
- 20:24Speaker 3: end of the book that I'm not going to go
- 20:25Speaker 3: into because I'm interested to see how this comes to
- 20:28Speaker 3: play further. But I did find it a little bit
- 20:30Speaker 3: shocking for people who do read everything canonical. It makes
- 20:35Speaker 3: you curious about what happened.
- 20:37Speaker 2: So, yeah, do you remember what I'm talking about?
- 20:45Speaker 1: Yes?
- 20:46Speaker 3: Oh wait, it's where it's where one of the first
- 20:53Speaker 3: order people goes elusive, like you're basically like you're all
- 20:58Speaker 3: supposed to be dead.
- 21:01Speaker 1: Oh yeah, yeah yeah, Uh what I what I was
- 21:07Speaker 1: gonna mention before you mentioned? Uh, the other main character
- 21:11Speaker 1: is our representation in this book. We have two technically
- 21:18Speaker 1: three members of the lgbt Q plus community. We have Uh,
- 21:26Speaker 1: a ex leader of Naboo.
- 21:34Speaker 3: Uh.
- 21:35Speaker 1: And then we have the main character's father who is bisexual.
- 21:46Speaker 1: And the only way we can confirm that is by
- 21:49Speaker 1: one of the shipmates who is also on the ship.
- 21:54Speaker 1: And we learn in here small spoilers for this for
- 21:58Speaker 1: this explanation, but there has been like years of like
- 22:04Speaker 1: back and forth teasing but not really doing anything with that,
- 22:09Speaker 1: going any further with it. And we'll talk a little
- 22:12Speaker 1: bit about that relationship and how it really is the
- 22:17Speaker 1: reason why that kind of flirtatious relationship is even there
- 22:23Speaker 1: to begin with.
- 22:26Speaker 3: And the ruler of Naboo that he's talking about was
- 22:30Speaker 3: the one during the Empire, like the end of the
- 22:33Speaker 3: Empire civil war, yeah, yeah, the galactic Civil War. Her
- 22:37Speaker 3: name was Socia Sbruna.
- 22:42Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 22:42Speaker 3: And she declared that she only enjoys the company of women.
- 22:47Speaker 1: So yep, I put in my notes note number twenty four.
- 22:55Speaker 1: She's gay with the rainbows and unicorns. So and that's well,
- 23:03Speaker 1: that's one thing I did want to show you. Like
- 23:05Speaker 1: this book I enjoyed so well. I sat down and
- 23:10Speaker 1: like legit just notated the crap out of this story.
- 23:16Speaker 3: I had such a blast with this and I can't
- 23:19Speaker 3: wait to actually get my physical copy because we did
- 23:23Speaker 3: receive this early guys from.
- 23:28Speaker 2: The imprint of Random House World's Penguin Random House.
- 23:39Speaker 1: So yeah, one of the very first comments that I
- 23:44Speaker 1: sent to you though about this book, Yes, I said, hey,
- 23:49Speaker 1: I just got finished with like the first chapter. But
- 23:52Speaker 1: this is definitely our type of book. Oh yeah, and
- 23:55Speaker 1: this and this is where I'm gonna jump into spoilers,
- 23:59Speaker 1: so three to one. When our main character Ardent appears
- 24:10Speaker 1: in the book, which is of course very first chapter,
- 24:12Speaker 1: we are introduced to her as a nerd, as a
- 24:16Speaker 1: book nerd. She is going to a old uh I
- 24:22Speaker 1: wouldn't even say bookstore. It's more of like a like
- 24:26Speaker 1: antiquities antiquity like knickknack store. Yea, and the receptionist, the
- 24:35Speaker 1: owner or whatever get into a small conversation about the
- 24:40Speaker 1: serial Hollow series that she is wanting to complete. And
- 24:46Speaker 1: this is also where we learn that her mother has
- 24:50Speaker 1: died already. She has she she does not have a mother.
- 24:54Speaker 1: In this current story, we learn more about her. There
- 24:59Speaker 1: is one piece of information that's very important to this
- 25:03Speaker 1: and like, I'm not entirely I think we can share
- 25:06Speaker 1: about that, but like all the background stuff, I really
- 25:09Speaker 1: want you guys to read and enjoy yourself.
- 25:14Speaker 3: Yeah, but so we could talk briefly about that, I
- 25:17Speaker 3: feel like, because I did want to bring that up
- 25:19Speaker 3: as part of the conversation.
- 25:21Speaker 1: Yeah, go ahead.
- 25:23Speaker 3: So aardn't quake. Basically, the Quays come from a line
- 25:29Speaker 3: of hyperspace prospectors. Basically, if you've listened or read any
- 25:36Speaker 3: of the High Republics, if listened to our reviews and
- 25:39Speaker 3: heard us talk about Mari Santeka and how she could
- 25:43Speaker 3: basically plot hyperspace lanes and was basically why the path
- 25:48Speaker 3: engines were created. The Quays have a similar talent and
- 25:54Speaker 3: they call it wayfinding, which I I always forget this,
- 26:01Speaker 3: so I went to Wikipedia and was like, is it
- 26:03Speaker 3: way seeker or wayfinder? And so the Jedi that goes
- 26:09Speaker 3: off and does their own thing is called a way seeker,
- 26:12Speaker 3: so kind of in that similar vibe. But it's a
- 26:16Speaker 3: very similar in this case what I feel like the
- 26:19Speaker 3: Quays are doing compared it's different compared to Mari Santeca.
- 26:24Speaker 3: The Quays are doing something very similar to the Chiss Skywalkers. Yes,
- 26:30Speaker 3: in those books where they are literally they don't just
- 26:35Speaker 3: disc like, they don't search and like plot coordinates. They
- 26:40Speaker 3: literally navigate through space by feel versus. And they can
- 26:46Speaker 3: plug in coordinates and stuff and go, oh yeah, this
- 26:49Speaker 3: is the direction I feel like we should be going.
- 26:52Speaker 3: But there's a scene in the book where Arden is
- 26:55Speaker 3: driving the ship basically and is doing it by herself.
- 27:01Speaker 3: She's hand piloting the whole way through.
- 27:04Speaker 1: It is it is a very it is described as
- 27:07Speaker 1: very supernatural, and in of course, in the Star Wars universe,
- 27:10Speaker 1: like the legit only supernatural thing that we know about
- 27:14Speaker 1: is the force. So like we've talked about how forced
- 27:17Speaker 1: sensitivity in many different ways in the Star Wars universe
- 27:22Speaker 1: is different for different species. You know, we've talked about
- 27:25Speaker 1: how uh the Night Sisters have a different way of
- 27:30Speaker 1: using the force. Uh the what was the other group
- 27:35Speaker 1: that was also on data mer I can't remember their
- 27:40Speaker 1: name off the top of my head, but like they
- 27:42Speaker 1: use legends, I thought it was the same group of
- 27:47Speaker 1: individuals that took uh what's your name, Uh, Thron's right hand.
- 27:58Speaker 2: The girl, the girl in Ahsoka. Uh yeah, she's still
- 28:03Speaker 2: a Night Sister.
- 28:04Speaker 1: Yeah, but there was another group of individuals that weren't
- 28:09Speaker 1: Night sisters that took her in remember I don't remember, Okay, Yeah,
- 28:16Speaker 1: there's like like they used the force in a different way.
- 28:19Speaker 1: Jedi used the force in a different way. And now
- 28:23Speaker 1: we have basically confirmation that way Seekers use the force
- 28:32Speaker 1: in a completely different way. And I think this is
- 28:36Speaker 1: really really cool. The way that it is explained both
- 28:42Speaker 1: verbally and then as like an actual experience when we
- 28:48Speaker 1: actually see it happen, I think is very very cool
- 28:50Speaker 1: and very unique. Yeah, I would be really interested because
- 28:56Speaker 1: like this, of course being a romance novel with this
- 29:03Speaker 1: like way Seekert kind of like lingering and it's like, okay,
- 29:08Speaker 1: like we're going to like by the time we saw
- 29:12Speaker 1: the first description of it, I was like, Okay, it's
- 29:14Speaker 1: gonna happen. We just don't know when it's going to
- 29:15Speaker 1: happen in this book. Yeah, I almost want like a
- 29:21Speaker 1: way secret pirate book, Like that's what I want.
- 29:25Speaker 3: Would well, And I will say, I need to get
- 29:29Speaker 3: you to read the Thron Ascendency trilogy because there's a
- 29:32Speaker 3: lot of that in there. Don't get me wrong, It's
- 29:35Speaker 3: still a lot about Thron and how he plots and stuff,
- 29:39Speaker 3: but it's from other people's perspectives. But it does delve
- 29:43Speaker 3: into the skywalking.
- 29:45Speaker 1: Okay, okay, but going back to like the very first
- 29:53Speaker 1: point that I was bringing up of like, oh, this
- 29:56Speaker 1: is a this is really a book for us, My
- 29:59Speaker 1: little very first highlight in the entire book was the
- 30:07Speaker 1: receptionist the owner of the store owner told ardent or
- 30:12Speaker 1: in many cases people also called her ari called told ari. Uh.
- 30:20Speaker 1: One of the plot points of this serial book series
- 30:23Speaker 1: that they're talking about is that like they didn't know
- 30:27Speaker 1: if somebody was alive at the end of a book
- 30:29Speaker 1: or not. And he's like, oh, you always have to
- 30:31Speaker 1: check for a pulse. And I literally highlighted it. I said,
- 30:35Speaker 1: this is going to come up. I know it's gonna
- 30:37Speaker 1: come up. And at the very end of the chapter,
- 30:43Speaker 1: he has a blaster burn on the back of his back.
- 30:49Speaker 1: He's seemingly dead. She went back because he snuck in
- 30:54Speaker 1: something into her purchase, which we later find like literally
- 30:59Speaker 1: find out the very end of the book what it
- 31:01Speaker 1: really is. I also part, yeah, me too, but she
- 31:08Speaker 1: realizes that she purchased what she wanted, that he had
- 31:11Speaker 1: put this in her bag, and she's like, oh, no,
- 31:14Speaker 1: I have to give it back. I never steal anything,
- 31:17Speaker 1: Like what is what is wrong with me? She goes
- 31:19Speaker 1: in there, there's some chaos happening. She finds him seemingly dead,
- 31:26Speaker 1: and then he wakes up, grabs her and says, always
- 31:34Speaker 1: check for a pulse run and then the very last
- 31:37Speaker 1: word of the chapter is Her reaction is oh, like,
- 31:41Speaker 1: oh my god. I was like, yep, oh, this book
- 31:44Speaker 1: is going to be so much fun. Uh yeah.
- 31:47Speaker 3: I once I got into it, I was having a ball.
- 32:00Speaker 3: I think probably grand total. I read the book in
- 32:03Speaker 3: about two and a half hours, but it was a
- 32:08Speaker 3: blast the entire way through. And I definitely is there
- 32:16Speaker 3: some romance tropes, yes, But I also feel like posting
- 32:24Speaker 3: was like playing with the trope factor a little bit,
- 32:28Speaker 3: because there would be points where I was like, oh, okay,
- 32:30Speaker 3: I know what's about to happen, and then it actually
- 32:33Speaker 3: wouldn't happen, and I was like whoa waite second, dude,
- 32:39Speaker 3: Like this is not at all what I expected here.
- 32:43Speaker 3: And I really dug that aspect of it, because especially
- 32:47Speaker 3: with how romance is nowadays, where it's like, oh okay,
- 32:51Speaker 3: everybody and their mother can write a romance novel. Now,
- 32:55Speaker 3: people don't play with things enough to inject whimsy. It's
- 33:02Speaker 3: like they're like, oh, okay, we have to follow the
- 33:04Speaker 3: Sarah J. Mass formula, or we have to follow the
- 33:07Speaker 3: Rebecca Garros formula or the Emily Henry like all these things.
- 33:12Speaker 3: Like sometimes it's just enough to kind of play with
- 33:16Speaker 3: things and do your own thing. And I feel like
- 33:18Speaker 3: that's what post An accomplished here.
- 33:20Speaker 1: Yeah. So I have my first initial question to you
- 33:27Speaker 1: that I had to stop and talk about that one
- 33:29Speaker 1: moment in chapter one. This is what I had to
- 33:33Speaker 1: cut out at the very beginning of non spoilers because
- 33:38Speaker 1: I have to ask you because you texted me and
- 33:40Speaker 1: you're like, oh, I finally understand what this book is.
- 33:46Speaker 1: I haven't notated note number eleven. Ah, Ifing knew it,
- 33:54Speaker 1: page eighty one, that's chapter seven, is when I clocked it.
- 33:59Speaker 1: I I clocked it a little ahead because I said, oh,
- 34:02Speaker 1: Ifing knew it, I clocked it probably the third mention
- 34:09Speaker 1: of the Again this is spoiler talk, at the third
- 34:12Speaker 1: mention of the lightsaber, I knew what it was. When
- 34:17Speaker 1: did you clock it?
- 34:20Speaker 3: So there was never like a great description of the lightsaber.
- 34:26Speaker 1: No, there wasn't.
- 34:27Speaker 3: So I was like, okay, well mos is here.
- 34:32Speaker 2: Moz is one of the cameos.
- 34:33Speaker 1: Guys.
- 34:34Speaker 2: Yes, So I was like, okay, like, could this be.
- 34:38Speaker 3: The Skywalker Saber? Like, is this the story of how
- 34:42Speaker 3: she gets it? And then we got to I think
- 34:45Speaker 3: it's like chapter. I'm not gonna say the chapter. Actually
- 34:49Speaker 3: we got to a point and that's when I texted Clay.
- 34:52Speaker 3: I was like, okay, so this is the story of
- 34:54Speaker 3: how Mos gets the Skywalker Saber.
- 34:57Speaker 1: Okay, so you're talking about one of the later chapters.
- 35:01Speaker 1: I'm just gonna say that.
- 35:02Speaker 2: Yes.
- 35:03Speaker 1: So, yes, one of the later chapters. I clocked it
- 35:07Speaker 1: very early, and this is I will say, I still
- 35:10Speaker 1: thought it was.
- 35:11Speaker 2: A Skywalker saber.
- 35:13Speaker 1: Yeah, I didn't.
- 35:14Speaker 2: That was when the point I.
- 35:16Speaker 3: Was like, okay, this is how Mos gets the saber?
- 35:18Speaker 3: And literally, guys, literally not even two pages later, it's
- 35:25Speaker 3: revealed that this is basically Luke's yellow Lightsaber from the
- 35:29Speaker 3: comics that everybody pitched a fit about.
- 35:31Speaker 1: Yeah, basically yeah. I was like what yeah when it
- 35:38Speaker 1: when it was when it said yellow, I went huh
- 35:42Speaker 1: and then it went like the little light in my
- 35:45Speaker 1: head was like, hey, hello, this is what they're talking about.
- 35:49Speaker 1: And I was like, oh, okay.
- 35:54Speaker 2: So yeah, I figured. I was like I kept going
- 35:58Speaker 2: back and forth.
- 35:59Speaker 1: I never.
- 36:01Speaker 3: So you're probably right up until that later chapter, I
- 36:03Speaker 3: probably was like, well, this could be anybody's lightsaber, but
- 36:06Speaker 3: couldn't beat the Skywalker lightsaber.
- 36:09Speaker 1: So I went ahead and of course thought about Anakin's lightsaber, right.
- 36:17Speaker 3: So yeah, and that's where I was like Anakin's lightsaber.
- 36:20Speaker 3: I was just like the Skywalker sabery.
- 36:22Speaker 1: Yeah. So my notes go into this order. I think
- 36:31Speaker 1: knew it page eighty one, and then the very next page,
- 36:36Speaker 1: Oh shit, that's Anakin's epic lightsaber. That's page eighty two.
- 36:43Speaker 1: And then I also have page one hundred and fifty three,
- 36:48Speaker 1: still talking about the lightsaber. That lightsaber killed a lot
- 36:52Speaker 1: of children. I don't know what they were talking about.
- 36:55Speaker 1: I think it was I think at one point Ari
- 36:59Speaker 1: was talking about how like, because this is another reason
- 37:04Speaker 1: why you can say way seekers are just another form
- 37:09Speaker 1: of force users, the really really cool thing way finding,
- 37:15Speaker 1: the really really fun thing about this. Ari has an
- 37:20Speaker 1: actual conversation, almost an actual conversation with the lightsaber. I
- 37:28Speaker 1: got goose bumps when it was like almost talking to
- 37:32Speaker 1: her and she was like, wait was that in my head?
- 37:36Speaker 1: And I was like, this is the kyber crystal literally
- 37:39Speaker 1: speaking to you. This is amazing.
- 37:43Speaker 4: So I.
- 37:47Speaker 1: Really loved this book. There was so much I loved
- 37:51Speaker 1: about this. Of course, every good Star Wars book needs
- 37:58Speaker 1: its droid VB. VB is probably up there for me
- 38:08Speaker 1: the last chapters.
- 38:12Speaker 2: I it does so good. I'm not gonna say what happens.
- 38:18Speaker 1: Okay, but the understanding of what happened and the words
- 38:28Speaker 1: that VB spoke saying oh, because here's again, I can't
- 38:35Speaker 1: even say that. I don't want to spoil that part.
- 38:39Speaker 1: I don't I don't want to spoil that part with
- 38:41Speaker 1: with that one character in in in with with, I
- 38:48Speaker 1: don't want to spoil that. I don't want to even
- 38:50Speaker 1: talk about it. I will just say, like, there is
- 38:54Speaker 1: a phrase that there's a phrase that VB speaks, and
- 38:59Speaker 1: then and Ardent takes that phrase and she's like, oh,
- 39:04Speaker 1: I understand now that was just chef's kiss. I I
- 39:11Speaker 1: like it was. It's it's it's a really hard moment.
- 39:17Speaker 1: But when you like really look at what like Ardent
- 39:21Speaker 1: is really understanding at that point, beautiful. I really really
- 39:26Speaker 1: enjoyed it. So uh. There is the the fact that
- 39:39Speaker 1: she is a way seeker there right way finder.
- 39:46Speaker 2: I got you confused I'm sorry.
- 39:48Speaker 1: A wayfinder. We talked about her now dead mother. We
- 39:56Speaker 1: learned that she died like on her sixth birthday or
- 40:00Speaker 1: her seventh birthday, trying to find her way, trying to
- 40:04Speaker 1: find her regardless of what it was. It was when
- 40:06Speaker 1: she was young, trying to get back to her for
- 40:10Speaker 1: her birthday. That was the main reason, was like, oh,
- 40:13Speaker 1: I promised her, I'll be there shortly, and she never returned.
- 40:20Speaker 1: The other thing that I wanted to bring up there was, oh, shoot,
- 40:35Speaker 1: we're what was let's talk about because we haven't really
- 40:39Speaker 1: talked about him a whole lot science. He is this
- 40:46Speaker 1: very suave like he like, I'm not gonna say it's
- 40:58Speaker 1: really funny to say this. I'm not gonna say he's
- 41:00Speaker 1: a Han Solo type character. Yeah, because the and the
- 41:04Speaker 1: only reason why I say it's hilarious is because he's
- 41:09Speaker 1: an archaeologist. Harrison Ford Indiana Jones archaeologist. Like I could
- 41:17Speaker 1: see why people would make the connection and why I
- 41:23Speaker 1: can't remember her name. The author posted, uh, posting, yes,
- 41:30Speaker 1: Ashley would go this route, like I think if that's
- 41:34Speaker 1: the connections she made to create cion bravo, very clever.
- 41:40Speaker 1: I loved it.
- 41:42Speaker 2: I totally dug it.
- 41:43Speaker 3: And I will say, and this was probably just me
- 41:46Speaker 3: being like I read everything in Star Wars. I really
- 41:50Speaker 3: thought for a hot minute, especially when he talked about
- 41:53Speaker 3: how his mentor as an archaeologist, kept getting drunk and
- 41:56Speaker 3: like stumbling over things, and was like, I really thought
- 42:01Speaker 3: he was gonna say Afra, but it's not Afra.
- 42:04Speaker 1: Yeah, no, it's not. But Moz ends up knowing his mentor,
- 42:14Speaker 1: which he kind of like he got all flustered and
- 42:16Speaker 1: he got like really happy about near the end. One
- 42:22Speaker 1: thing I did want to mention because I did have
- 42:24Speaker 1: it in my notes with science background. He does talk
- 42:33Speaker 1: about like places he's been, what he's done, and he
- 42:39Speaker 1: says place it so mongy, you can cut the air
- 42:42Speaker 1: with a knife. A continent overrun with vermin and people
- 42:47Speaker 1: in flesh eating plants, old temples, city slums, and spaceports
- 42:52Speaker 1: ruled by pirates. Is this I have it in my
- 42:58Speaker 1: notes port Borg that was in Skeleton Crew.
- 43:06Speaker 2: That's what I thought, because he mentioned that it's.
- 43:08Speaker 1: On the edges of wild space.
- 43:10Speaker 2: That's what I thought too. Yeah.
- 43:13Speaker 1: Yeah, so there's a possible like and I will I
- 43:18Speaker 1: will also say this in the very beginning uh. Cyan
- 43:22Speaker 1: is seemingly described as almost having a Matthew McConaughey esque
- 43:31Speaker 1: Southern draw so, like, I that's how I envied because
- 43:38Speaker 1: Ardent actually like describes how he says her name, and
- 43:43Speaker 1: I'm like, that's almost Matthew McConaughey ish.
- 43:47Speaker 3: Yeah, And I loved it, especially with the parts because
- 43:51Speaker 3: he has a nickname for her, which I won't go into,
- 43:54Speaker 3: but the parts where he does say her name, I
- 43:57Speaker 3: was like, oh, dreaming, So I like, I don't know.
- 44:04Speaker 3: I just got done reading book two of Where the
- 44:08Speaker 3: Moon When the Moon Falls book, and so I've been
- 44:12Speaker 3: in like a romanticy kick and I'm about to go
- 44:14Speaker 3: into everflame again.
- 44:16Speaker 2: So I'm just like writing this high of like such
- 44:20Speaker 2: great romance.
- 44:22Speaker 1: Okay, when the Moon Falls or when the Moon hatched?
- 44:25Speaker 2: When the Moon hatched.
- 44:26Speaker 3: I'm sorry because book two is called The Ballad of
- 44:29Speaker 3: Falling Dragons.
- 44:31Speaker 1: Okay, I I I want to share a little bit
- 44:36Speaker 1: of story about this book. I have not read it yet,
- 44:40Speaker 1: but this was in the middle of like that one
- 44:44Speaker 1: year that I was reading like three freaking books a
- 44:48Speaker 1: week or whatever, and like was going crazy and stuff.
- 44:51Speaker 1: So I was literally just buying books off the shelf
- 44:53Speaker 1: like crazy. My best friend of all time when he
- 44:57Speaker 1: saw one of my posts that sh like, oh this
- 45:01Speaker 1: is what I got this week, he was like, I
- 45:04Speaker 1: read it. I read it. This book's amazing. This book's amazing.
- 45:06Speaker 1: And when it showed up, when the title when A
- 45:10Speaker 1: Moon Hatched showed up, he commented, I think this is smut.
- 45:18Speaker 1: And I was like okay, because I was just grabbing
- 45:23Speaker 1: literally just everything off the shelf that was either recommended
- 45:28Speaker 1: by like actual retailers, like the employees, or like things
- 45:33Speaker 1: that they were just highlighting on the shelves, and so
- 45:36Speaker 1: I was just like, oh, this is a really hefty book.
- 45:39Speaker 1: This will take me some time. Like maybe if I
- 45:43Speaker 1: start reading this, it'll stop me from buying more books,
- 45:46Speaker 1: which technically it did because I was like, hey, I'm
- 45:50Speaker 1: not going to buy any cause it was around the
- 45:53Speaker 1: time where I was finally making the decision of like, hey,
- 45:57Speaker 1: I need to actually start reading these books before I
- 45:59Speaker 1: start buying more. And so it's a hefty book, especially
- 46:05Speaker 1: like if you look at the paperback, it's like so thick. Uh,
- 46:09Speaker 1: And he was like, yeah, I think that's fut.
- 46:10Speaker 3: I was like also a comment on that, just because
- 46:14Speaker 3: there is smut in, It doesn't mean it's all smut.
- 46:22Speaker 2: So uh.
- 46:25Speaker 1: On that note, there's no smut in this book, No
- 46:29Speaker 1: there is, And that was one of the things, like
- 46:31Speaker 1: we had said that it gets close when there there
- 46:35Speaker 1: is a moment where there is a lot of intimacy,
- 46:38Speaker 1: and that's that's the one thing about this book. There
- 46:41Speaker 1: is like little like heart fluttering moments between these two
- 46:45Speaker 1: characters throughout the entire book. But there's finally a moment
- 46:50Speaker 1: where there is intimacy, very quickly interrupted. Not going to
- 46:55Speaker 1: say why because that is another like plot twist, but
- 47:01Speaker 1: when it does get intimate, I was like, whoa, this
- 47:04Speaker 1: is why he hold like calm down now, like what
- 47:07Speaker 1: are you doing? And then it gets interrupted and I
- 47:10Speaker 1: was like, ah, okay, so that's how they diverted to
- 47:16Speaker 1: not get so adult all right.
- 47:20Speaker 3: Which and we've talked about it before, but the hya
- 47:24Speaker 3: line has definitely blurred and things with smut in it
- 47:30Speaker 3: should be new adult or yeah, oh my gosh, excuse me,
- 47:41Speaker 3: but I think this one stays in the lines of
- 47:44Speaker 3: what I would consider young adults. So yes, my mom,
- 47:51Speaker 3: I don't know what she would say.
- 47:57Speaker 1: Uh, there was uh something, what was it? Oh? One
- 48:09Speaker 1: of the other cameos that popped up here again little
- 48:16Speaker 1: to no like real effect towards the actual story is
- 48:24Speaker 1: Lea Organa. She pops up near the very end. I'm
- 48:30Speaker 1: not gonna say why again, there's another part of this
- 48:32Speaker 1: book that gets really in deep with like, hey, we're
- 48:36Speaker 1: moving towards force awakened stuff. So she pops up and
- 48:42Speaker 1: I have a note here. I literally read in this
- 48:46Speaker 1: book quite possibly the best descriptor I have ever read
- 48:51Speaker 1: in my entire life. Yes, so there is. It's on
- 48:58Speaker 1: page three hundred and sixty four in the day digital version.
- 49:01Speaker 1: And I'm totally fine with sharing that. It's my thirty
- 49:07Speaker 1: seventh note. Oh sorry, thirty sixth note. I said, this
- 49:12Speaker 1: has to be one of the best descriptors I have
- 49:14Speaker 1: ever read. And this is Ardent describing Princess Leah. And
- 49:22Speaker 1: she says, I'm shoot this year. Oh didn't even go
- 49:28Speaker 1: to that page. It's three sixty four, fifty five, up up,
- 49:34Speaker 1: up sixty four. She said, Uh, I had never met
- 49:46Speaker 1: a story before. It's simple. It's like you you kind
- 49:57Speaker 1: of think nothing of it, but just the descriptor a
- 50:03Speaker 1: story for a person.
- 50:06Speaker 3: Yeah, because you think about it her entire life has
- 50:09Speaker 3: been about exploring those stories that.
- 50:14Speaker 2: Have been told. And it's just so.
- 50:18Speaker 3: Epic the way they It's epic because of how simple
- 50:25Speaker 3: it is, really like because you could have gone, you
- 50:28Speaker 3: could have had her go on and on about how
- 50:33Speaker 3: Leoana was this famous person, but truly, like they talk
- 50:38Speaker 3: about they talk about in this how Jedi are just
- 50:41Speaker 3: nothing but stories basically, and like that the relic that
- 50:47Speaker 3: Cyan is holding of a lightsaber doesn't even work, and
- 50:51Speaker 3: like so what's the proof that it really did work?
- 50:54Speaker 5: All a lot kind of things and it's all building
- 50:57Speaker 5: up to this final end where wow, I this woman
- 51:01Speaker 5: is a story like I did.
- 51:04Speaker 2: It is like I didn't even know she existed, but
- 51:06Speaker 2: really she does.
- 51:09Speaker 1: Yeah. I really really liked that descriptor. I thought that
- 51:13Speaker 1: was very very good writing. Again, very simple. Really wouldn't
- 51:17Speaker 1: think anything like it. But in the context of how
- 51:20Speaker 1: this story goes, like you said, it means a lot,
- 51:24Speaker 1: and I think that's really really cool. Is there anything
- 51:29Speaker 1: else that you kind of want to like tackle like
- 51:32Speaker 1: straightforward in this story, because there's there's there's a lot
- 51:35Speaker 1: of good stuff, but like I don't want to wrote
- 51:37Speaker 1: it for anybody.
- 51:38Speaker 3: Yes, because I think we've tackled everything really major. I
- 51:43Speaker 3: know the Lightsaber is a big point, but guys, there's
- 51:47Speaker 3: just a lot too it that I think we wanted
- 51:50Speaker 3: to discuss, as like background and like times and things,
- 51:54Speaker 3: so it keeps it definitely interesting. And this book definitely
- 52:02Speaker 3: follows a plotline of a simple romance novel, but there's
- 52:07Speaker 3: a lot of depth here that really builds on the
- 52:12Speaker 3: connection that Cyan and Artent hold, but then also the
- 52:16Speaker 3: greater Star Wars Galaxy as a whole. So if you're
- 52:22Speaker 3: a romance fan, I would definitely recommend picking this up.
- 52:28Speaker 2: And then if you're a Star Wars fan, as long
- 52:31Speaker 2: as you don't mind romance.
- 52:32Speaker 3: If you are not a romance person, this is not
- 52:36Speaker 3: going to be a book that you're gonna want to
- 52:38Speaker 3: read because if you're just I hate tropes, you like
- 52:43Speaker 3: a more in depth plot line, this is just not
- 52:46Speaker 3: gonna be the book for you. And that's okay. You
- 52:48Speaker 3: don't have to read everything in the Star Wars Galaxy.
- 52:52Speaker 3: We still love you.
- 52:53Speaker 1: Yes, and that's very true. And and one thing for me,
- 52:59Speaker 1: you know, my I dive into the romance genre. I
- 53:06Speaker 1: dabbled in it before, and then of course Katie had
- 53:12Speaker 1: some recommendations for me, and I jumped into those, so
- 53:16Speaker 1: I'm still newer to it. I still saw this as
- 53:21Speaker 1: a Star Wars book, though, and so when I was
- 53:24Speaker 1: reading it, I really didn't feel like hey. Like the
- 53:30Speaker 1: thought that really hit my mind was around chapter seventeen
- 53:35Speaker 1: to twenty somewhere between there. I was like, so, when's
- 53:39Speaker 1: the other shoe gonna drop? And what I mean by
- 53:45Speaker 1: that is like, I'm getting all of the romance novel,
- 53:48Speaker 1: which is good. I like this, but when is it
- 53:52Speaker 1: going to feel like Star Wars? Because there's a lot
- 53:55Speaker 1: of planets mentioned, there's a lot of Star Wars things
- 53:59Speaker 1: in this book. I'm waiting for, like, hey, cause again,
- 54:03Speaker 1: one of the things about me as a Star Wars
- 54:06Speaker 1: fan and Star Wars book reader is how is this
- 54:10Speaker 1: moving the needle forward for the story that we know
- 54:14Speaker 1: as the greater Star Wars story. It's like, I wouldn't
- 54:25Speaker 1: say it's my kryptonite. It's just like, it is that
- 54:29Speaker 1: thing that is that makes me an annoying Star Wars fan.
- 54:33Speaker 1: I understand that if if I was having a conversation
- 54:37Speaker 1: with just other Star Wars fans, they would be like, Oh,
- 54:42Speaker 1: this is this is great. Bla blah, and I'd be like,
- 54:45Speaker 1: but does it really move the needle? And then everybody's
- 54:47Speaker 1: mood would just be like, Clay, why'd you have to say? Like,
- 54:49Speaker 1: why do you have to bring back up? That's just
- 54:52Speaker 1: who I am. And I apologize to every single author
- 54:55Speaker 1: out there who's going to write a Star Wars story
- 54:57Speaker 1: in the future.
- 54:59Speaker 3: He's not root about it at least fair warning.
- 55:06Speaker 1: But at least you get there. That's the thing is
- 55:09Speaker 1: in this book. You get there, and I'll be quite
- 55:14Speaker 1: honest because of the fan that I am. There's a
- 55:18Speaker 1: lot of my notes that is here. I'll even share
- 55:21Speaker 1: one with you very first note. Outside of the you
- 55:27Speaker 1: should check for a pulse very first note, a lightsaber.
- 55:31Speaker 1: Should I be mad? No? Am I mad? Kinda? We
- 55:35Speaker 1: have plenty of non Jedi stories and novels, but sometimes
- 55:38Speaker 1: it would be really nice to not deal with Jedi.
- 55:40Speaker 1: And technically I don't even know if this person is
- 55:42Speaker 1: a Jedi, so maybe I'm upset for no reason. This
- 55:48Speaker 1: was on page twenty five, and then.
- 55:54Speaker 5: I go.
- 55:56Speaker 1: Into page two hundred and fifty two. I really don't
- 56:01Speaker 1: want Cion to be a lost Jedi. Well, this would
- 56:04Speaker 1: be different. This would be from Luce's academy because there
- 56:07Speaker 1: was a there was a quick like uh, like there's
- 56:11Speaker 1: there's like a hold on is it? What did he
- 56:16Speaker 1: personally survive a Kylo rinnattach question mark. Now I'm even
- 56:19Speaker 1: more confused do I want this or not? Like that's
- 56:23Speaker 1: just who I am as a reader and as a fan,
- 56:26Speaker 1: like like I want the Star Wars stuff, but then
- 56:30Speaker 1: sometimes I don't want the Star Wars stuff.
- 56:32Speaker 2: Well.
- 56:32Speaker 3: I also early on when the eyes like stars came
- 56:37Speaker 3: up and she was talking about his eyes, I was like,
- 56:42Speaker 3: wait a second, we've only ever had one. I'm that person, guys,
- 56:46Speaker 3: I'm always that person who's like, could this be rude?
- 56:50Speaker 3: I was like, ya's rue hiding because we all know
- 56:53Speaker 3: that Star Wars has liked to take characters.
- 56:59Speaker 2: And like send.
- 57:00Speaker 3: Lifespans for those species basically that you wouldn't expect. And
- 57:04Speaker 3: so I was like, wait a second, this is the
- 57:07Speaker 3: guy on the cover. Please please don't let this be
- 57:10Speaker 3: a two hundred and fifty year old man flirting with
- 57:12Speaker 3: an eighteen year old like and.
- 57:15Speaker 1: Get I could see that. I didn't really think about
- 57:18Speaker 1: that because the way you explained it in your text
- 57:21Speaker 1: was like, oh, this is the species. So I never
- 57:23Speaker 1: I never made that connection, but I can see how
- 57:26Speaker 1: people could.
- 57:27Speaker 3: Again, I'm that person who is like, wait, this the
- 57:31Speaker 3: only character that we've previously known of this species is
- 57:34Speaker 3: this guy?
- 57:36Speaker 2: Did this happen?
- 57:37Speaker 3: And thankfully it did not. But that's just the way
- 57:39Speaker 3: my brain works is I'm like, I'm trying to relate
- 57:41Speaker 3: it to a character, and then I go on Wikipedia
- 57:45Speaker 3: and I'm like, wait, this is the only character that
- 57:47Speaker 3: we've actually seen of this species, Like what? So I
- 57:54Speaker 3: had to step there and again was not dating a
- 57:58Speaker 3: two hundred fifty year old man. And I also, just
- 58:00Speaker 3: as another like canonical aspect, I do understand that species
- 58:05Speaker 3: mature at different rates, but it's still weird, especially in
- 58:09Speaker 3: the terms of a specific romance novel. So I'm glad
- 58:12Speaker 3: we didn't go there.
- 58:13Speaker 1: Yeah. Yeah, there's two more points that I want.
- 58:17Speaker 3: Especially when the lightsaber came out that was my other
- 58:19Speaker 3: connection to the character, I was like, wait a second,
- 58:22Speaker 3: so yeah.
- 58:23Speaker 1: Yeah, yeah, no, I totally get that. Two other things
- 58:26Speaker 1: that I wanted to bring up in this story, and
- 58:28Speaker 1: I think I'm kind of done other than like getting
- 58:31Speaker 1: really deep into the stuff that we don't even want
- 58:33Speaker 1: to talk about. First mentioned was uh, Oh shoot, did
- 58:41Speaker 1: I lose it? Oh Olderan, Yes, there is a now
- 58:50Speaker 1: spaceport in the location of where Aldron used to reside.
- 59:00Speaker 1: Canonmically in universe, there is people really happy about this,
- 59:05Speaker 1: and there's other people who are really mad about this.
- 59:09Speaker 1: I can understand both sides, but I do think this
- 59:14Speaker 1: is a very interesting development within the universe because in
- 59:21Speaker 1: a lot of the books that we've read, there is
- 59:24Speaker 1: conversations that include people who are Alderanian, and they kind
- 59:33Speaker 1: of are known as people who don't have a planet anymore.
- 59:36Speaker 2: Yep.
- 59:38Speaker 1: This space station is literally for those people. Like it's like, hey,
- 59:46Speaker 1: you do have a home, It's here if you need it.
- 59:51Speaker 1: And there's like a memorial on one of the floors
- 59:53Speaker 1: of the spaceport, which is really cool. Like, I actually
- 59:58Speaker 1: really really like this new Devi element in Star Wars Cannon.
- 1:00:01Speaker 1: I think that it should be something that is more developed, and.
- 1:00:08Speaker 3: Because I can appreciate that too, because in Star Wars Legends,
- 1:00:11Speaker 3: which we're actually about to kind of sort of get
- 1:00:15Speaker 3: into with our New Jedi Order review series on Patreon,
- 1:00:22Speaker 3: like Alduron actually settles on a planet that didn't have
- 1:00:27Speaker 3: a population on it, and so like cal Omas who
- 1:00:33Speaker 3: we've talked about before, is actually the senator of the
- 1:00:37Speaker 3: alder Iranian people and in the courtship of Princess Leah.
- 1:00:41Speaker 3: Leah is actually looking for somewhere to put her like
- 1:00:46Speaker 3: the remaining Alderanians and like try to establish an Alderan
- 1:00:50Speaker 3: colony and stuff. And so the reason that they're on
- 1:00:57Speaker 3: Dafamir in that book is because Han actually quote unquote
- 1:01:03Speaker 3: one the planet of Dafamir because it was previously reported
- 1:01:07Speaker 3: to be unpopulated, and so he won it in a
- 1:01:11Speaker 3: game of Sabak and offered it to Leah as the
- 1:01:16Speaker 3: planet to house the alt around people.
- 1:01:21Speaker 2: So there was a lot of that build.
- 1:01:24Speaker 4: Up in Legends, and so I'm glad to see that
- 1:01:27Speaker 4: it's kind of coming into Cannon because I do think
- 1:01:30Speaker 4: it matters to know where those people end up and
- 1:01:34Speaker 4: where the refugees end up and stuff.
- 1:01:36Speaker 1: So yeah, I thought that was I thought that was
- 1:01:39Speaker 1: really really cool. Second mention, uh, and this is a
- 1:01:43Speaker 1: very stupid mention, but it made me chuckle and I
- 1:01:46Speaker 1: kind of rolled my eyes. Have you ever seen the
- 1:01:51Speaker 1: interview of Carrie Fisher when she explains like to I
- 1:01:57Speaker 1: can't remember who was interviewing her, but she tells this
- 1:02:01Speaker 1: story about how she had a conversation about her wardrobe
- 1:02:06Speaker 1: in a New Hope about how like she's just wearing
- 1:02:12Speaker 1: this own dress and they're like, oh, can I have
- 1:02:16Speaker 1: like a brawl? And they're like, oh, there's no bras
- 1:02:19Speaker 1: in Star Wars.
- 1:02:20Speaker 3: Uh huh.
- 1:02:23Speaker 1: This is totally stupid, but nope, Number twenty two, page
- 1:02:27Speaker 1: one to fifty four. This is so stupid. But the
- 1:02:29Speaker 1: mention of underwear just reminds me of the Carrie Fisher
- 1:02:32Speaker 1: interview where she explains that George Lucas told her that
- 1:02:35Speaker 1: there's no underwear in space because like, the one of
- 1:02:40Speaker 1: the things is when Ari and Cyan get onto her ship,
- 1:02:48Speaker 1: her cruise ship, he has to be a stowaway, and
- 1:02:54Speaker 1: in a little bit of bartering, he has this lightsaber,
- 1:02:57Speaker 1: which is like a big reveal. In the very first
- 1:03:00Speaker 1: few chapters, she takes it from him. It's like, hey,
- 1:03:04Speaker 1: I know that you will be on your best behavior
- 1:03:07Speaker 1: because I have this and you want this. I'm gonna
- 1:03:10Speaker 1: go hide this and she hides it in an underwear
- 1:03:12Speaker 1: drawer and when it mentions that, I kind of just chuckled.
- 1:03:16Speaker 1: I'm like, there's no underwear in space. George Lucas.
- 1:03:21Speaker 3: George Lucas doesn't roll Star Wars anymore.
- 1:03:25Speaker 1: What I just, I just I just thought it, like
- 1:03:27Speaker 1: I thought about it, and it made me chuckle. But yeah,
- 1:03:32Speaker 1: that's that's all I have on Well, that's all I
- 1:03:36Speaker 1: am willing to share because again, uh, there's little things
- 1:03:42Speaker 1: like there's a small reference to I hate sand there
- 1:03:47Speaker 1: is I note number thirty four a loosim Katie was right.
- 1:03:57Speaker 1: Oh and the very last note that I had was
- 1:04:01Speaker 1: full teary eyed emojis because of the small little monologue
- 1:04:08Speaker 1: that Arden's dad gives to Ari as a father to
- 1:04:15Speaker 1: a young three year old. Right now, I know that
- 1:04:18Speaker 1: I'm gonna have to have this conversation with her when
- 1:04:20Speaker 1: she's older, and I don't want it.
- 1:04:23Speaker 3: I had to have that conversation with my mother, so
- 1:04:27Speaker 3: I didn't tear up as bad because I was the
- 1:04:29Speaker 3: one gimick it.
- 1:04:32Speaker 2: I like, but.
- 1:04:35Speaker 1: Well, like because like even earlier in the story, I
- 1:04:38Speaker 1: have a I have like a notation about like how
- 1:04:41Speaker 1: he doesn't even know her, and like because there's a
- 1:04:44Speaker 1: whole thing with her birthday guys, and and that's something
- 1:04:46Speaker 1: that is also like a big like it's not it's
- 1:04:48Speaker 1: not a big reveal, but it kind of shows their
- 1:04:51Speaker 1: relationship and he like mistake, he mistakens an emotion of
- 1:04:57Speaker 1: hers for like happiness, and so he's like, yeah, all right,
- 1:05:01Speaker 1: party and he like walks away, and I'm like, you
- 1:05:03Speaker 1: stupid idiot, like you don't even know who your daughter is.
- 1:05:06Speaker 1: And then he turns around and has this conversation at her,
- 1:05:09Speaker 1: like to her at the very end, and I'm just like, oh,
- 1:05:14Speaker 1: it was heartwarming, it was sad, like I it was
- 1:05:17Speaker 1: a good book. Yes, uh, here's here's something. And I
- 1:05:23Speaker 1: think this might be a regular question that I ask
- 1:05:27Speaker 1: from now on because I think it's a fun question. Ashley,
- 1:05:34Speaker 1: I can't remember her last names actually posting, sorry Ashley
- 1:05:39Speaker 1: Ashley posting. This is our first hy A romance novel,
- 1:05:46Speaker 1: not the technical first romance novel in Star Wars, because
- 1:05:51Speaker 1: we did read I'm I'm Lost Stars, Lost Stars.
- 1:05:58Speaker 2: There was another one. I can't think of it.
- 1:06:01Speaker 1: Oh princess scoundrel.
- 1:06:04Speaker 2: Scoundrel, but convergence cataclysm technically.
- 1:06:11Speaker 1: Oh yes, yes, yes, very true, very sure with this
- 1:06:16Speaker 1: being a y A romance novel, and I am pretty
- 1:06:22Speaker 1: sure because again I do apologize. Actually I do not
- 1:06:26Speaker 1: recognize your name for any of the books that we
- 1:06:27Speaker 1: have currently read. I'm newer, I say newer. We've been
- 1:06:31Speaker 1: doing this for six years. I just haven't read any
- 1:06:33Speaker 1: Legends with Ashley's name on it. I haven't canonical books
- 1:06:38Speaker 1: with Ashley's name on it other than this one. So
- 1:06:42Speaker 1: I think this is her first Star Wars novel. If
- 1:06:46Speaker 1: you could choose a time period in which Ashley could
- 1:06:57Speaker 1: stretch her legs a little bit in her right capabilities,
- 1:07:02Speaker 1: where would you want her to go? We asked this
- 1:07:05Speaker 1: of Rue last time, so I'm gonna ask the same
- 1:07:09Speaker 1: thing from posting what do you think.
- 1:07:22Speaker 2: You know where I'm gonna go? And you're not gonna
- 1:07:25Speaker 2: like this?
- 1:07:26Speaker 1: Probably not am.
- 1:07:30Speaker 3: I'm gonna say. And I can't remember their names for
- 1:07:37Speaker 3: the life of me for some reason, but our duo
- 1:07:43Speaker 3: on uh.
- 1:07:45Speaker 2: Planet X and the way they spend their time in
- 1:07:50Speaker 2: the pining and the you did?
- 1:08:01Speaker 1: Are you so you're talking about the two characters that
- 1:08:03Speaker 1: I think you're talking about, because again, we haven't talked
- 1:08:05Speaker 1: about that in the Republic since the review. Yes, Katie,
- 1:08:10Speaker 1: you have now broke me.
- 1:08:14Speaker 2: I said, you're not gonna like that.
- 1:08:15Speaker 1: I can't believe I didn't even think about that. Yes, yes,
- 1:08:23Speaker 1: forget my answer. Yes, I just want like.
- 1:08:26Speaker 3: A diary kind of thing, like I saw him today.
- 1:08:32Speaker 3: I still can't believe I can't touch him. But I
- 1:08:34Speaker 3: must do this for the benefit of us all. Like
- 1:08:40Speaker 3: because in the epilogue, please.
- 1:08:47Speaker 1: Please, yes, I was I was gonna go do you
- 1:08:53Speaker 1: know what my answer was going to be, Oh, the
- 1:08:57Speaker 1: High Republic so it could be a little bit more
- 1:09:00Speaker 1: light hearted. That was all that was gonna be. That
- 1:09:04Speaker 1: I was leaving it open. And I say lighthearted like
- 1:09:09Speaker 1: I I would say, like, hey, with everything that is
- 1:09:14Speaker 1: going on with the uh, with the blight and everything else,
- 1:09:19Speaker 1: Like I do think that would still be an interesting
- 1:09:23Speaker 1: story with you know, a mix of romance in there,
- 1:09:27Speaker 1: but that one specifically, Yes, I needed to happen. Ashley
- 1:09:37Speaker 1: Tom Michael Lucasfilm Publishing. I think we need to be
- 1:09:45Speaker 1: on the board of creating stories. I just think I
- 1:09:51Speaker 1: I think, I think I thought of it.
- 1:09:58Speaker 2: I'm so tired and my I twit driving me insane.
- 1:10:02Speaker 1: So just but you know, I that's a that would
- 1:10:05Speaker 1: be beautiful, that would be amazing. But with that, guys,
- 1:10:09Speaker 1: that's where we're gonna end it again. Uh, there's a
- 1:10:13Speaker 1: lot of stuff in this book that we really do
- 1:10:15Speaker 1: hope that you guys enjoy when you guys have this
- 1:10:19Speaker 1: in your possession when you finished reading it, let us
- 1:10:22Speaker 1: know your favorite parts, let us know some of your
- 1:10:28Speaker 1: debates with our takes, whatever you would like to have us,
- 1:10:32Speaker 1: you know, talk about on the show. So yeah, of
- 1:10:36Speaker 1: course you can always find me at Fanboy play on Instagram,
- 1:10:40Speaker 1: on Threads, and as of right now, uh, there is
- 1:10:46Speaker 1: going to be a new show that we are reviewing
- 1:10:50Speaker 1: over at Ranger Alliance because of the way that Super
- 1:10:54Speaker 1: Sentai is kind of like doing their thing now in Tokusatsu,
- 1:11:00Speaker 1: they're only twenty ish episodes a show and so they're
- 1:11:04Speaker 1: like completely changing the shows up. So now we have
- 1:11:07Speaker 1: a new show which is a mix of common Writer, Pokemon,
