Speaker 3: Everything changes over time.
• 1:58
Speaker 1: Well, it does, but that I went one time and we actually we did a broadcast from there, and we're talking about the one in Galveston and not to put anybody down or put it down.
• 2:08
Speaker 1: It for what it is it's.
• 2:11
Speaker 1: It's an okay show.
• 2:12
Speaker 1: They're on a whole lot of cars, a lot of vendors, and I think it's more about the trip getting there and the vendors than it is anything else and if you're down there it's fine.
• 2:22
Speaker 3: Hot wheels, bring beanie babies, all kind of stuff and some cars, bert beanie babies.
• 2:28

• 2:46
Speaker 1: Okay, now to see we're running behind.
• 2:50
  Speaker 1: Now.
• 2:50
Speaker 1: We got here two hours before we went on the air.
• 2:53
Speaker 1: This time now for the regular listeners and Participants in this show that listen on various and a sundry outlets Of the show started an hour ago, but those were recorded seven of them.
• 3:06

• 3:11
Speaker 2: Okay, okay, this is now live and in living color from the hammy hideout and everything has a pink hue and living color.
• 3:18
  Speaker 2: Well, it does.
• 3:19
Speaker 2: What happened to our light up there?
• 3:21
Speaker 2: Because all the new year's power yeah huh, we needed the power.
• 3:24
Speaker 1: Oh, you needed the power.
• 3:25
Speaker 1: So I went to light.
• 3:26
  Speaker 1: Yep.
• 3:26
Speaker 1: Oh Well, isn't that something special?
• 3:30
Speaker 3: I've got to say that every one of you looks great on the radio.
• 3:34
  Speaker 1: Thank you.
• 3:34
Speaker 1: Thank you, yeah, we do that.
• 3:36
Speaker 1: So Bill's so Bill Sight's has a Lot of hours involved in this Emmy hideout from the ground up.
• 3:47
Speaker 1: Actually, did you watch the concrete being poured were?
• 3:49
Speaker 3: you here for that?
• 3:50
Speaker 3: Oh, I was here for everything.
• 3:51
Speaker 3: We started putting little flags in the field where we're gonna build the building, and then it went from there.
• 3:57
Speaker 1: So yeah, from the very beginning, how did you meet John Hovis?
• 4:00
Speaker 1: Or do I even ask, sure?
• 4:03
Speaker 3: I do automotive artwork.
• 4:04
  Speaker 1: Yes.
• 4:05
Speaker 3: Illustrated one of his cars.
• 4:06
Speaker 3: That was in a local shop and whenever they do a big build they have me do an illustration.
• 4:11
Speaker 3: They give it to the owner when he picks car up and for a while he's wondered who did the artwork and I wanted to own the car.
• 4:18
Speaker 3: And finally our paths crossed about 15 years ago and Been buddies ever since.
• 4:22
Speaker 3: You know John is a likable guy and feel like family.
• 4:26
Speaker 3: Once you meeting one, yeah, and it grew from there.
• 4:28
Speaker 3: It was very fortunate meeting.
• 4:30
Speaker 3: I've Enjoyed every minute of it, yeah.
• 4:32
Speaker 1: Yeah, well, and it was you that called me, as I think that the Building was being built, and you said, don, when this thing is built, you've got to come out here and meet John Yep, and I finally got the invitation to come out here and I was wowed, needless to say.
• 4:53
Speaker 1: But, and and thanks to you, our friendship with him is grown as well.
• 4:59
Speaker 1: Yeah, and this was actually before you and had, I think, the in wheel time show, wasn't.
• 5:03
Speaker 1: I Believe it was well 15 years ago, because this shows now and it's 12th year, so I think it was about a little bit before that time.
• 5:13
Speaker 2: But and the wow factor is kind of beyond the cars and the collection of neon.
• 5:18
Speaker 2: To me, the wow factor is the structure.
• 5:20
Speaker 2: The building itself is just impressive to stand in the middle of and look at it.
• 5:26
Speaker 3: It's just pretty cool.
• 5:26
Speaker 3: I thought you were gonna say the people involved in it and the artwork surrounding the place.
• 5:32
Speaker 1: Well, the family of people that surround and now he's trying to dance around what he said, it's okay thank you, I know you are, I know bills done all the artwork out here a lot of it.
• 5:45
  Speaker 3: A few pieces.
• 5:46
Speaker 3: Including the center, the centerpiece as you walk in the tiles and the logo design and the Big murals and some of the smaller paintings.
• 5:54
Speaker 1: So yeah, that's been fun, yeah.
• 5:56
Speaker 1: So when was that up?
• 5:59
Speaker 1: When they open the building, your artwork yes, on all the walls.
• 6:02
Speaker 1: Yes, so while the building was being built, or before the building was being built, you were working on the artwork was working on the Designs, for John wanted everything.
• 6:11
Speaker 3: All the state wanted everything unique in here, not something that you're gonna go down to another collection somewhere and see the same thing.
• 6:19
Speaker 3: So that was our challenge, and it took a while to come up with the ideas, and then the actual artwork didn't take as long.
• 6:25
  Speaker 1: So so what?
• 6:25
  Speaker 1: What did?
• 6:26
Speaker 1: Did you go through his car collector?
• 6:28
Speaker 1: The car collection is already.
• 6:30
Speaker 1: Was already in place for the most part.
• 6:32
Speaker 3: He had all the cars.
• 6:32
Speaker 3: Yeah, so we knew we wanted to include the cars and in the murals and in the tiles, that artwork.
• 6:40
Speaker 3: So you, we knew the content, wise, you just want to know how to present it.
• 6:44
Speaker 3: Yeah, so that's, that was a challenge.
• 6:46
Speaker 3: I told John, I said I wanted to do the artwork, but I didn't know I was gonna have to help him build a building before I could.
• 6:54
Speaker 2: Make sure he had the wall space for yeah, exactly.
• 6:58
Speaker 1: Well, I'll tell you what.
• 7:00
Speaker 1: At the time, the first time I came out here, there may have been, I don't know, a dozen or so neon signs at the most, am I right?
• 7:10
Speaker 3: More than that, but it looked well.
• 7:12
Speaker 1: This is how many square feet?
• 7:13
  Speaker 1: Is this 22,000?
• 7:14
  Speaker 1: 22,000 square feet.
• 7:16
Speaker 1: So all right, let's just say two dozen signs.
• 7:19
Speaker 3: Let's say 180 signs originally when we opened up.
• 7:23
Speaker 1: Yeah, Really, yeah, I would have never known, john.
• 7:27
Speaker 1: The building swallows them up.
• 7:28
Speaker 1: It truly does, and every time we come up here, which is a little less than once a year, it's like wait a minute, that's new.
• 7:38
  Speaker 1: What's the new?
• 7:39
  Speaker 2: one.
• 7:39
Speaker 1: Yeah, and you picked out one outside.
• 7:41
  Speaker 2: Yep the.
• 7:42
  Speaker 2: Valentine's beer signs.
• 7:44
Speaker 2: First time I noticed it and the other reason I noticed it my grandfather drank Valentine beer and I'm sure the reason he drank it because he knew I wouldn't, because it was so bad.
• 7:55
Speaker 2: Yeah, it's the beer that created bitter beer.
• 7:58
Speaker 2: Face Gosh, that stuff is horrible.
• 8:00
Speaker 2: Yeah it's like a New York City beer.
• 8:03
Speaker 1: It's just horrible then people drink it apparently my grandfather did oh, and they had nice signs.
• 8:10
Speaker 2: And they had nice signs.
• 8:10
Speaker 2: They were all over the place.
• 8:12
Speaker 3: Yeah, I won't tell you how long that signs went out there, but Still go up to some of the signs.
• 8:21
Speaker 3: I said John, when'd you get this?
• 8:22
Speaker 3: And he said 2012.
• 8:26
Speaker 1: We're not by ourselves then I've lost.
• 8:28
Speaker 3: I can't keep up with the new signs.
• 8:30
Speaker 2: Yeah well, the cool thing about the building is there's so many Nooks and crannies in a place to place a sign it's.
• 8:38
Speaker 2: You really can't look anywhere in here without seeing 15 or 20 Various neon signs of different brands and stuff, and most of it automotive.
• 8:47
Speaker 2: Not necessarily every bit of it automotive, but all of it's gorgeous.
• 8:51
Speaker 3: John's expanded his interests past automobiles and Petroleum to just Americana in general.
• 8:58
Speaker 3: Yeah, and it's good, and you can look at a sign and 20 minutes later come back and you'll see 10 other things you didn't see the first time.
• 9:04
Speaker 1: So it's, it draws you in well, I will say this that I see that they keep getting higher in the rafters.
• 9:11
Speaker 1: Now, oh, he'll go right to the top.
• 9:12
Speaker 1: I know he will eventually.
• 9:13
  Speaker 1: He will.
• 9:15
Speaker 2: Yeah, there's still all that space up there that isn't filled in yet exactly, and I'm sure that we're working on that.
• 9:21
Speaker 2: No doubt, yeah, daily Do you go out with him when he's collecting.
• 9:26
Speaker 3: Not anymore, when I went on some memorable trips, believe me, but haven't done that in a while.
• 9:31
Speaker 3: I think we're all cutting back a little bit John and Tom and myself and a few others.
• 9:36
Speaker 3: It's kind of like you know, rumor has it we're getting older.
• 9:40
Speaker 4: No, yeah, well, I'm not well, you're an exception.
• 9:45
Speaker 3: Believe me in many ways.
• 9:48
Speaker 1: Yeah yes, most definitely, jeff.
• 9:52
Speaker 1: You could ask John if we could get us another Electric cord to light up the light, because I can tell you that the video is going to be extremely pink.
• 10:01
Speaker 1: Well, trust me on this, I can tell you that on the playback it won't be good.
• 10:07
Speaker 1: But at any rate, sorry for the background stuff, but You'll notice that we don't have the big in wheel time.
• 10:15
  Speaker 1: Sign back here.
• 10:16
Speaker 1: I was going to ask you about that.
• 10:17
Speaker 1: It's in front now Because we didn't.
• 10:19
Speaker 1: We're not trying to cover up anything.
• 10:21
Speaker 1: I'm sure there's a lot of things and we were there.
• 10:23
Speaker 1: You go, we're covering up the motorcycle collection.
• 10:25
  Speaker 3: Yeah, it's.
• 10:26
Speaker 3: Any place you put a barrier in here, it's going to be something.
• 10:29
Speaker 2: Exactly it's going to tie something where it's looking at.
• 10:31
Speaker 3: Yeah, good point, yeah.
• 10:34
Speaker 1: And we've actually thought about doing some broadcasts where we actually have our back to the live audience but we're shooting them.
• 10:41
  Speaker 1: That's cool.
• 10:42
Speaker 1: It's kind of like they do on the network stuff every once in a while, mainly football games, Just say it.
• 10:49
Speaker 2: Especially like when we're at a car show or an event, and that way we can kind of see the cars cruising around as opposed to switching to a different camera that we can't get to work on Jeff's laptop.
• 11:02
Speaker 1: Oops, mars, mars, you're very quiet over there.
• 11:08
Speaker 6: What are you doing?
• 11:09
  Speaker 6: I'm monitoring everything.
• 11:11
Speaker 3: He's working on his phone.
• 11:13
Speaker 1: And you found that we're not on the air.
• 11:14
Speaker 1: Is that what it?
• 11:15
Speaker 3: is no, we're here.
• 11:17
  Speaker 1: We're up.
• 11:17
Speaker 1: Okay, Well, just checking.
• 11:19
Speaker 1: I did want to have you been keeping up with the UAW Strike out of Detroit at all.
• 11:25
  Speaker 3: Not much.
• 11:25
Speaker 1: Well, okay, Well, we're a car show so we try to keep up with it on a weekly basis.
• 11:30
Speaker 1: Stellantis is pulling out of the specialty equipment market association show that's in Las Vegas and the Los Angeles auto show to cut costs during the ongoing UAW Strike.
• 11:41
Speaker 1: Automaker Friday yesterday said it is canceling its displays and presentations at the two events as part of its strike contingency plan.
• 11:49
Speaker 1: It announced the moves just days after saying it was canceling plans to participate in the 2024 CES Tech Expo in January.
• 11:58
Speaker 1: The SEMA event begins October 31st in Las Vegas and the LA show starts November 16th.
• 12:04
Speaker 2: It's huge because it's a late pullout for SEMA.
• 12:07
  Speaker 1: It is.
• 12:07
Speaker 1: And the other thing that concerns me, mr Mars, is the fact are they going to have the Jeep and Ram display at the Houston Auto Show?
• 12:17
Speaker 1: And I'm hoping that we'll be able to get ahold of somebody from the Houston Auto Show to we will.
• 12:26
Speaker 3: We need to talk to them next week.
• 12:27
Speaker 3: She's out of town right now.
• 12:28
Speaker 1: We need to talk to them next week.
• 12:30
Speaker 6: Well, it's not just her, you know, yeah, no, but she knows a lot of stuff about it, but I don't know that Houston and it's not, and a lot of the other shows are not like SEMA and the LA Auto Show from an expense perspective.
• 12:43
  Speaker 1: I understand.
• 12:44
Speaker 6: I mean, they have monstrous displays and stuff at those and they're very expensive, especially the SEMA show.
• 12:51
Speaker 2: Well, the Jeep ride and drive's a pretty monstrous display.
• 12:54
  Speaker 6: It is.
• 12:54
Speaker 6: That would be the thing It'd probably be the first thing.
• 12:57
Speaker 2: But isn't the Houston Auto Show as Houston dealer funded though?
• 13:00
  Speaker 2: No, yes, partially.
• 13:03
  Speaker 1: Partially.
• 13:03
Speaker 1: Some of the manufacturers help cushion the blow.
• 13:10
Speaker 2: But you know, there were a lot of.
• 13:13
  Speaker 1: Am I hearing?
• 13:13
Speaker 1: Am I hearing us somewhere?
• 13:15
Speaker 1: Is that your phone?
• 13:18
  Speaker 2: It's not mine.
• 13:18
Speaker 1: Somebody's phone over there that needs to have the volume turned down.
• 13:21
  Speaker 1: Thank you, Professionalism.
• 13:28
  Speaker 6: No, my earplugs.
• 13:28
Speaker 6: I forgot to put my earplugs in to hear it for the monitor.
• 13:31
Speaker 6: Well thank you it's okay, but I'll do that now.
• 13:34
Speaker 1: Okay, no, we were talking about the Houston Auto Show, but waiting till the second.
• 13:39
Speaker 1: There were a lot more manufacturers that aren't showing up, for instance, last year, cadillac.
• 13:44
Speaker 1: The only reason that there were a few Cadillac cars there was because the dealers themselves contributed to that, and so to me that's huge.
• 13:54
Speaker 1: I don't know how you can have a car show and not have Cadillac back your presentation at a car show.
• 14:01
Speaker 1: You got to have that rely on the dealers.
• 14:04
Speaker 2: What, especially when they're trying to launch the Lyric.
• 14:07
Speaker 2: Yeah, you know that's their big new launches the Lyric, and I don't know what the inventory looks like at local dealers.
• 14:14
Speaker 2: I can't imagine it's very much, but that's going to be such an important car for the Cadillac brand you.
• 14:21
  Speaker 1: Have you checked?
• 14:21
Speaker 1: Are you into the car stuff at all anymore?
• 14:24
Speaker 1: What are you doing?
• 14:25
  Speaker 1: What good are?
• 14:26
Speaker 3: you, yeah, what do you do?
• 14:27
Speaker 3: Why are you here?
• 14:28
Speaker 3: Most seniors do we kind of hang around?
• 14:32
Speaker 1: Are you playing cribbage down at the country club?
• 14:36
Speaker 3: Strictly shuffleboard and pickleball oh great, I'm kidding.
• 14:39
Speaker 3: Now Don't get me on that, I'm just trying to keep.
• 14:43
Speaker 1: Because you know all of your fans out there where you live.
• 14:46
Speaker 1: Both of them, both of them, they're going to go.
• 14:49
Speaker 1: He just called us out.
• 14:51
Speaker 1: Well, we'll show him.
• 14:55
Speaker 2: It's a whole pickleball club, you see.
• 14:57
Speaker 1: I can tease Bill, because well, bill needs teasing for one.
• 15:02
Speaker 1: But it's always been our relationship, yeah, yeah, giving out a hard time.
• 15:08
Speaker 3: Starting to offend me now, though, so you need to back up, okay.
• 15:10
Speaker 1: I'm going to back off.
• 15:11
  Speaker 2: Thanks, karen, yeah.
• 15:16
Speaker 1: And with that I think, I'm going to.
• 15:18
Speaker 1: Okay, yes, please go right ahead.
• 15:20
Speaker 1: You're good to go, but we love you.
• 15:22
  Speaker 1: Thank you, conrad.
• 15:24

Speaker 6: Just not gonna leave that one alone.
• 17:32
Speaker 6: Leave that one alone.
• 17:36
  Speaker 2: Ever the.
• 17:37
Speaker 1: Mercedes Benz GLS 450.
• 17:40
  Speaker 1: What is it?
• 17:42
Speaker 6: This is an SUV.
• 17:44
Speaker 6: They've kind of quit calling things CV's.
• 17:46
Speaker 6: Apparently that's not a good word.
• 17:47
Speaker 6: No, it's not anything everything's come back to be an SUV.
• 17:49
  Speaker 6: It's the GLS 450.
• 17:51
Speaker 6: It comes in three trim levels.
• 17:53
Speaker 6: The 450 is the base trim level for the GLS series of SUVs and then there's the GLS 580 and then there's the AMG GS, gls 63.
• 18:03
Speaker 6: Now this is the formatting, so it is the all-wheel drive and, again I said, it's the base of the full-size luxury SUV.
• 18:11
Speaker 6: Now it's a six passenger vehicle because it's two.
• 18:13
Speaker 6: Two and two is two Captain chairs in the second row and then the third row has seating for three.
• 18:20
Speaker 6: It comes with several different packages on it, like the AMG line package, so you got a lot of AMG body styling cues on the trim on the outside of it, the 21 inch AMG wheels.
• 18:30
Speaker 6: It also had the night package where you've got a lot of things blacked out, like the grill, the side mirrors, roof rails, but it also has the LED lighting package, which is pretty much standard these days.
• 18:40
Speaker 6: We had the panoramic sunroof.
• 18:41
Speaker 6: We had the power liftgate.
• 18:42
Speaker 6: Again I mentioned the 21 inch AMG 5 spoke wheels on it that look really nice.
• 18:46
Speaker 6: Now you get into the inside of it, you got black leather seating.
• 18:49
Speaker 6: That's brushed aluminum trim all throughout it.
• 18:52
Speaker 6: Now the front seats are heated and massaging and I used the front seats front seats both front
• 18:58
Speaker 1: seat heated, you can be going down the freeway at a hundred miles an hour and have your Speedometer says a hundred sixty, it does.
• 19:05
Speaker 1: I don't want to be in it at a hundred.
• 19:08
Speaker 6: So it's the second row has captain's chairs as well and they are also heated.
• 19:13
Speaker 6: And the third row is a power folding 50-50 arrangement that works pretty good, has lots of nice.
• 19:18
Speaker 6: One of the better ambient lightings is the only reason I pointed out.
• 19:21
Speaker 6: And on the interior there Was fun to play with twelve point three inch monitor and that's where you're gonna find all your convenience controls and navigation.
• 19:28
Speaker 6: You surround set your surround view camera whenever you're using that.
• 19:32
Speaker 6: They had the 590 watt Burmeister surround sound audio with 13 speakers.
• 19:38
Speaker 6: It didn't have the Armstrong System in no, it did not it's a string in a can now I will say that this one had I seem like it had a button for everything and knobs and everything.
• 19:47
Speaker 6: It wasn't so much on the touchscreen, a lot of it was dual on the touchscreen, but some of them were small.
• 19:52
Speaker 6: Some of it I couldn't read and I had to.
• 19:53
Speaker 6: Just I played with it and I finally figured out what would do what.
• 19:56
Speaker 6: So it's been your problem for many years, many many years trial and error got me through that and it has USB C ports through the whole thing, no USB a.
• 20:04
Speaker 6: So if your normal USB, like you plug in your computer something, it wouldn't work.
• 20:08
  Speaker 6: It won't work.
• 20:08
Speaker 6: You got to have the sea or you got to have an adapter to get to a C port front and rear.
• 20:12
Speaker 6: I thought you know you're gonna change sooner or later but they're gonna rush in and Mars always has a pocket full of adapters.
• 20:18
Speaker 6: Yeah, yes now, up under the hood we had the 3.0 liter turbo.
• 20:21
Speaker 6: That's considered a mild hybrid, so it does out 375 horsepower this year, which is up from 362 369 pound-feet of torque with a line speed transmission.
• 20:31
Speaker 6: Now you properly equip this vehicle and it'll pull 7700 pounds.
• 20:35
Speaker 6: Whoa and, and I thought that was a pretty hefty chunk, but this is a big, heavy car.
• 20:39
Speaker 6: The EPA says you should be looking for 19 miles to the gallon in the city, 24 on the highway, combined, 21.
• 20:46
Speaker 6: Now I drove this thing 356.8 miles and I got 19.5 miles to the gallon and I was pretty happy with that.
• 20:54
Speaker 6: It's lots of power, lots of smooth power that you really didn't notice too much.
• 20:57
Speaker 6: Now it does come with the standard air suspension and it does have the acoustic comfort package.
• 21:02
Speaker 6: So it's got increased insulation.
• 21:04
Speaker 6: The windshield is all insulated glass, the side glass, so it's pretty quiet on the inside with all the extra insulation and it rides really smooth the lanes with the air suspension.
• 21:13
Speaker 6: Now this is the base model.
• 21:16
Speaker 6: So you're gonna start out at $87,000 for this vehicle, the as tested price, after we added all these trim packages with 95,720.
• 21:25
Speaker 6: Oh boy, base trim level.
• 21:26
Speaker 6: You kind of styling it last there was, I was good.
• 21:31
  Speaker 1: Compared, you didn't.
• 21:31
Speaker 1: You didn't take Becky in it and you didn't bring her over here in it.
• 21:35
Speaker 6: Yes, no, I didn't bring her.
• 21:36
Speaker 6: We don't have it now.
• 21:37
  Speaker 6: It's it's gone.
• 21:38
Speaker 6: We had to bring the truck, let's see.
• 21:40
Speaker 6: So if you leave something to compare it to, you might look at the infinity QX 80 that starts at 74 150 for the base trim level.
• 21:46
Speaker 6: The Cadillac escalate sets up at 81 895 Whenever you start getting into the base.
• 21:51
Speaker 6: Even the Lincoln navigators up at 87 655, and there's several more out there and the price goes up as you get into them.
• 21:57
Speaker 6: So that is the 2024 Mercedes-Benz GLS 450 for Maddie Cool.
• 22:03
Speaker 6: Nice it was, it was very nice.
• 22:07
Speaker 2: If you're looking for a hundred thousand dollar SUV well.
• 22:10
  Speaker 4: I like it.
• 22:11
Speaker 4: I like the, the styling and the view of the rear portion of it to the hatch area with the wide tires underneath.
• 22:17
Speaker 4: There it's, it looks good.
• 22:19
Speaker 6: Well, that's a lot of the AMG styling because of that package and it really to me it without going up to the AMG vehicle itself, you really get a lot of a lot of yes.
• 22:28
Speaker 1: That's really what it amounts to and it looks really good.
• 22:31
  Speaker 1: I'm looking for a story.
• 22:33
Speaker 1: Well, I think that this would be the appropriate place to put that story.
• 22:38
Speaker 1: I think you should, and it's a Mercedes-Benz story and I haven't found it yet, but I have lots of stories.
• 22:46
  Speaker 2: Is that?
• 22:46
Speaker 2: Is this about the Let?
• 22:48
Speaker 6: me tell you a w striking the no.
• 22:51
Speaker 2: Let me tell you a story about the very it's the very last story, of course, it is Mercedes-Benz.
• 22:56

• 23:07
Speaker 1: The brand reported its US EV sales surged more than fourfold in the first nine months of the year, largely because of the higher volume, eqe crossover and sedan.
• 23:17
Speaker 1: Now that effort is flailing.
