[rock music] Hey, Slouie's Lounge Chair number 33.
• 0:42
Um, I'm surprised you even remember that. It's been so long since we've done one. Um, tonight it's just, uh, Kayla and I.
• 0:47
Uh, she's returned from RAGBRAI, so, uh, we, we're gonna try to hook up with a few other RAGBRAI people, but I don't think they're sober yet. I'm not sure [laughs] how much longer- I'm not either.
• 0:56
[laughs] I have a drink in my hand right now. [laughs] I was gonna say, and Kayla's just where Kayla always is. It doesn't really matter. [laughs] So, um, yeah, this is podcast number 33. RAGBRAI ended almost a week ago.
• 1:09
Yep. Um, so we've got RAGBRAI to talk about, and, you know, in five days we leave for SingleSpeed USA in Kansas City, so there's, uh, there's a lot. And then, oh, we're also planning a trip to Milwaukee, by the way. Oh.
• 1:22
  Well, we've been planning that.
• 1:24
Well, no, I was gonna go to Colorado and ride, and I decided that a flight to Flagstaff was ridiculous when I could just jump in a car and drive with a bunch of drunks over to Milwaukee for a couple days of drinking, so that's our new plan.
• 1:34
Okay. Perfect. So just so you- Count me in... yeah, you can- Yeah... another, another reason for you to hang out with us and not go to work. Yeah. Oh, you ought to take a day off on that one, probably. Good.
• 1:44
Um- I need all the days off. Yeah, so let's see. So RAGBRAI this year, um, I didn't ride.
• 1:49
I was gonna ride a little bit, and then just too many things got in the way and I started coaching again, and that kind of put an end to that.
• 1:55
However, I'm not upset I didn't go because I looked at pictures from your guys' bus, um, and from Casey Clark and that group from the Jackhammers, and a few of my other friends that were out there, and that's a lot of people.
• 2:09
It was, yeah. It was crazy the amount of people. But I mean, for how hard the ride was, at the end of the day it wasn't that bad.
• 2:17
And surprisingly, the concerts weren't that crazy, though we didn't go out to the concerts every night. But, um, when we did go, like it wasn't abnormal for the concertgoers. The, the picture of at, um,
• 2:30
and this is sad to say 'cause I don't really like him, Hairball looked like a zoo. Like it w- looked like a- Oh... blocked line of people. We didn't go out that night. Yeah. Didn't ya? No. We did a...
• 2:40
It was kind of a nice year to get to know a lot of my team members more. Like, we did just more, like, campfire shenanigans, like- Nice... in our host homes. Yeah. Yep.
• 2:47
I mean, that's, that's, seriously, that's how, how, mostly how we did it- Mm-hmm... when we, when we rode a lot. It was- [laughs] You just strolling away... no, I got to... My ti- Watched the whole table just go...
• 2:57
my tippy, my tippy table's not cooperating with the mic either. What the fuck is going on here? There we go. We're okay. We'll survive. It's the character. I, I just have to change my head angle a little bit.
• 3:06
[laughs] I can see you now, though. Maybe I'll put it back. [laughs] I hate when that happens. [laughs] Yeah. Yeah, if it's not too- Professional over here. [laughs] Just gotta change the head angle.
• 3:17
[laughs] It's not the top of the head or nothing to do with it. [laughs] And we're back. [laughs] Yeah, it's nice to have you back. I'm kidding. Um, so okay.
• 3:29
We should probably start, I think of this every time- Mm-hmm... we talk about RAGBRAI. Let's start from the beginning because the beginning of your ride is hilarious.
• 3:35
[laughs] I always feel bad when we do day zero 'cause there's always something. Last year I, like, had Brad off the tip of the iceberg already 'cause he's like, "You guys struggle." They're old buses, okay?
• 3:46
But we've been preparing. Um, we had our biggest team this year of 57 people, uh, 37 those being full week, or ha- yeah, full weekers.
• 3:55
The rest, um, were, like, half weekers, and then we had a couple that were just, like, helping haul stuff back and forth. Okay. Um, and so Brad had put a lot of work into those buses getting 'em prepared.
• 4:05
They were all ready to go. Um, we literally are getting out of Rochester and we're like, "Hmm, kinda smells like smoke." And [laughs] Brad's like, "You need to pull over now."
• 4:14
So we pull over and all of a sudden I just hear them yelling, "Get off the bus. The bus is on fire." And I'm like, "Nah, this is a joke, right?" And they're like, "No, seriously. We see flames underneath the bus."
• 4:25
And we're like, "Oh fuck." And I'm like, "My bike is on the top." [laughs] I'm like, "Can I just get my bike? I need all my things." But yeah, we, uh, we called...
• 4:35
There was a sheriff at the, we had stopped at the gas station just south of Rochester there by my house. So I'm like, "I'm not that far from my house.
• 4:43
If shit's gonna go down, at least, like, I can just go home [laughs] and call it a day." That's right. [laughs] You know, you gotta think of the positives, but I was like, "Oh man, I feel bad for all the new people."
• 4:53
Like, this is their first experience. A lot of new people to RAGBRAI period, let alone to Roadster new, and they're just like, "Is this normal?" And I'm like, "Bus on fire? No, definitely not normal." [laughs] Oh.
• 5:06
But, uh- I, but, but you have to admit, it, I would bet because it was your brakes, right? Yeah, the brakes. Yeah. I would bet money with all the buses that are... And, and, and
• 5:17
what do you think, 80% of the people have old buses like that? Yeah. Yeah, yeah. They're all, like, you know, '90s or older buses. Right. They're old school buses. Yeah.
• 5:23
They're not meant to haul, like, the amount of stuff that we're trying to haul at the capacity or the mileage we're trying to do- Right, right... on the hot days that we're out.
• 5:31
But I'll bet every year there's a set of brakes that do that. There has to be. I don't know. All the teams seemed rather surprised when all of a sudden- Oh, really?... I was like, "SOS. Roadster bus on fire."
• 5:42
[laughs] Instantly, you know, that's the RAGBRAI charm though is, like, all these teams look out for each other, and instantly I was getting, like, phone calls and people like, "Hey, are you guys okay?"
• 5:53
And I'm like, "Yeah, the fire department's here. They're putting out the f- the fire right now."
• 5:57
Um, we lucked out that there was a sheriff at the gas station when the flames were, you know- Well, plus the fire station's just down the street. Yeah. The- So they...
• 6:05
Though it still seemed like it took a little bit of a time, but, um, yeah. Oh, I'm gonna tell you- We just sat there-... that... cracked. [laughs] Yeah. I'm gonna let them know too.
• 6:12
'Cause I do- I'm like, "Your response time, guys." I do know guys at that station. My bike was on top of the bus, so- [laughs]... the clock was ticking. Um, but yeah.
• 6:19
We grabbed, like, fire extinguishers and we were trying to put it out in the meantime. Uh, but yeah. We just cracked beers in the parking lot.
• 6:25
I have a really great meme of one of our team members, and he just has this, like, frumpy face, and he's like, "Everything's going to be fine." Meanwhile, the firefighters are, like, putting out the fire.
• 6:34
[laughs] Yeah, 'cause I... Well, you have to, you have to give me that picture of the, uh, firefighters sitting there hosing off your back wheels. Yeah. [laughs] That was pretty funny. [laughs] Yeah.
• 6:41
I- So yeah, day zero, a little bit rough. Um, we end up just, uh... We got a mechanic out there, so we lucked out on that too.
• 6:49
Like, all the RAGBRAI gods were just shining on us of, like, we're gonna figure out a way to get down there. 'Cause by the time we had started loading all these people into this... And thank God we had two buses.
• 6:59
So we had rented out the Bandits bus- Right... for the second bus- Yeah... 'cause we had so many people, and we didn't wanna bring the, uh, like a truck and trailer, extra stuff.
• 7:07
So we were starting to haul everybody, or put them in the second bus, and then they had put out the flames. A mechanic came. He's like, "You can just shut off those set of brakes and just run off three brakes."
• 7:17
And we're like, "Are you serious?" He's like, "Yeah, you'll be fine." So we, we ran on three brakes- Oh... all week long. Um- Oh, really? Yeah. Nice.
• 7:25
The problem was is the fire had, like, cracked the, I think it was the rim on one of the wheels, so they...
• 7:32
Or yeah, that night when we were, like, shuttling back and forth to the concert, all of a sudden one of our support guys is like, "Uh, we have a flat tire." And then we realized two of the other tires were also bad.
• 7:44
So we didn't have our s- our rotor bus for, like, the first two nights, 'cause we had to wait for a mechanic to come down to our host home and fix the tires. Fix the tires. Mm-hmm. So he got- So he br-...
• 7:55
three new tires... he brought the stuff to you and fixed it right there, there where- Yeah... you guys were sitting? Really? Yep. That's, uh... And we had, we, he blew a radiator hose. That's pretty common, yeah.
• 8:07
And the guy tried to t- the guy tried to tell us that he, uh, we blew the motor. What? Oh, yeah. Yeah, we, we wound up with a lawsuit against the guy. Oh, boy. Oh, no, it got ugly. It was like, there was a scam going on.
• 8:18
This is 20-some years ago probably. Yeah. But there were some guys that were like, buses were always breaking down. You know, like- Mm-hmm... the Bud Ice bus never made it anywhere.
• 8:26
And, uh, yeah, this guy was like, "Oh, I can make some money off of this deal," and thought he had us by the butt, and he didn't realize that there was some people are somewhat mechanically inclined.
• 8:34
And, and all of a sudden, he's in all kinds of trouble, and we had, uh, two of the guys with- that were, that owned the bus were well to do, and they're like, "Fuck that. We'll sue the son of a bitch.
• 8:44
We're going after him." So it was, it was a bit wicked. I didn't- Wow... I didn't need all that shit, but it w- Yeah... we had our bus fixed. All right. That's, that's fine.
• 8:51
But yeah, we just kinda rolled with it, so we didn't have a bus at the midway town the first two days, which was rough, 'cause the first day was kind of a hard day to have. And it was long, wasn't it?
• 9:00
Yeah, like, the average was, like, 80 mile days. Yeah. And they were, like, 3,500 feet of climb, so. That... Well, it was kind of a southern route.
• 9:08
And s- and people don't realize that the southern route is almost the, the hilliest. Yeah. 'Cause you're just in and out of the river valleys, right? Yep. Yeah. How many times- Um- Well, it wasn't a super southern one...
• 9:17
no, it was kinda more midway- Yeah... into Iowa, yeah. Um, but yeah, it, um, we made do. Like, people were super chill about it, and yeah. It was just really hot, though. That was my only complaint.
• 9:32
Like, I trained hard for this RAGBRAI knowing it was gonna be a tough route, and I, I still, there was one day where I debated if I needed to call an ambulance, 'cause I was, like, super sick. Really?
• 9:43
And my friend Luke was with me. And I don't think if he was with me, I don't think I would've made it to the host home, 'cause I was in pretty bad shape.
• 9:49
I, I- We had, uh, Todd couldn't eat or drink for, like, three days, and he was just, like, puking the whole time. And, and Todd's a really good rider. Yeah, he's a strong rider. Yeah. Yeah.
• 9:58
Well- And he was struggling, and, like, we had, like, a lot of people just dropping like flies. It was tough. I, well, I noticed that your guys' bus was slow.
• 10:05
You know, and usually I would give you shit about it, but in this weather, there's no way.
• 10:09
It, it's, it's, the, like, you and I were talking earlier, but the difference is when we did it, when it was, and I don't remember what year it was, but it was as hot as this, let's say. And, um,
• 10:19
we, and, and I think, I think n- the majority of the people on the ride decided that you might have a beer here, maybe one there, but for the most part, you drank water and got the ride done, and then got to the end town, and then you could start partying.
• 10:33
And nobody really, n- not, I would say nowhere near a normal RAGBRAI you would stop and have a couple beers every stop or something. It was, there was, like, no stopping.
• 10:41
I don't, I know we, I know at times we blew through, like, three, four towns before we'd stop. Yeah. So that sounds like, sounds like you guys did different.
• 10:46
I definitely tried to get m- majority of the miles behind me at the beginning, also because of the crowds. Like, I just got annoyed by the crowds, so I'd try to get ahead of the crowds.
• 10:55
Um, but I still made, you know me, I still made all my beer stops. Yeah. Well, I mean, there's- But there was a lot of, like, really fun, like, towny bars and that, and- And were they busy?
• 11:04
Um, yeah, 'cause everybody was just trying to get air conditioning. So- See, on ours, like I, I was telling you earlier, there w- I don't remember where it was at. They had, they had a stage and everything.
• 11:13
It was outside. They, they sent the band home, and we walked inside, and they had moved all the furniture out.
• 11:18
There's no bar tables or t- or, or stools or anything, 'cause they just figured they were gonna have this giant crowd and people would stand. Mm-hmm. And we were the only people in there. Oh, boy. Yeah.
• 11:27
And we're like, when we ride, like with the partying group, we'd probably be riding with you if we were riding. So we're in that, that mess of people that drink a lot, right? Mm-hmm.
• 11:34
And they're all like, "Nope, we're gonna get within the last 10 miles or all the way to the end," and then, you know. And then I think there was hardly any, any towns in between the 10-mile town and the end.
• 11:45
Or that, you know, in that, that framework. So even that town didn't have a lot going on. It was like, that was probably the most I spent in the overnight towns ever on a RAGBRAI. Hmm.
• 11:55
Because it was, it was just too hot to do anything. Yeah. Yep. But we, uh, yeah, like I said, I, I was not gonna give you guys any crap about sagging or anything, 'cause [laughs] I didn't.
• 12:07
Yeah, I didn't sa- Like, I just, I just pushed through. Some of the people- You just have to...
• 12:11
couple of people that we used to ride with a lot [clears throat] did go out on it, and they kind of, I think, I think Lou does the whole thing. But
• 12:18
Sharon, a friend of mine from Decorah, um, kind of goes down and does part of it, and she broke her foot, so she was, she was kind of riding a little bit of it, but not really riding.
• 12:26
She's more driving and going to the correct towns and hanging out and partying and stuff. [laughs] But, but she posts a picture of Lou, and again, last summer when there was this heat, he did have heat stroke. Yes. Man.
• 12:36
And he's, and, and even [laughs] so she posts a picture of him [laughs] and says, and says, "Yo, hey, if you see this, this is my friend. He's out there. You know, he's had heatstroke. We're worried about him.
• 12:47
We don't know where he's at. He's not, he wasn't in the van sleeping overnight. We don't know if he made it," blah, blah, blah. And I just smart-assly put up there. It's like, [laughs] "Uh, that's Lou. I'll see him.
• 12:56
I'll, I'll pick him up. I'll look for him next week." And, and- [laughs]... and Decorah, guess who I saw Wednesday night? [laughs] Oh my God.
• 13:03
[laughs] I go walking in the T-Box and, and all of a sudden, "Lou, how you doing?" [laughs] Nice. Well, I'm glad he's okay. Oh, yeah. 'Cause it was definitely scary seeing- Oh, yeah... some people out there that...
• 13:14
And that was the thing with the, them not closing the registration early, like their sag wagons couldn't keep up. And so we had a couple team members- Oh...
• 13:21
where they literally waited, I think, three or four hours before a sag wagon showed up, and they just lucked out, 'cause they were, like, telling...
• 13:27
Like, once they got in, the sag wagon would pass people, and they're like, "Sorry, we're done for the day. Sorry, we're done for the day." Oh. It was, yeah, pretty crazy stuff.
• 13:36
Um, a senator, the Iowa senator got arrested on RAGBRAI. [gasps] Really? [laughs] Yeah. Something about, uh, um, I just kind of skimmed- Tell me-... through the article.
• 13:45
But- Tell me, tell me it was nudity, public nudity, please. No, unfortunately. [sighs] There was a nudist group, though. That was fun. I was glad to see it. Really? Yeah. Um. Two girls... Well, they weren't fully nude.
• 13:55
They had, like, shorts on, and then they had, like, kind of like a, I don't know, a bodere type thing, but, like, tits out. And, like, the guys just had fanny packs, like, covering them. Really? Yeah. Naked and afraid.
• 14:07
[laughs] It was the hottest day. I was kind of jealous. I was like, if I wasn't with people I knew, I would probably [laughs] be doing the same- [laughs]...
• 14:13
and going down every water slide, 'cause you just had to do what you needed to do. It was definitely- Was there more water slides? There... Let's see. I counted four water slides.
• 14:24
Um, only two of those were legit though, and the one, like I was having heat stroke, so I didn't go on it, 'cause I just wanted to get home. [laughs] Yeah. Which is super sad.
• 14:33
You know Kayla's not feeling good- Oh, oh, right... when she passes up a slip and slide. Yeah. Yeah, it was, it was, uh, I... There was, the pictures I saw from my friends that went, the ones that normally go, um, were,
• 14:47
other than the crowds, like, and I said, like, you know, I have, I have, I'm not gonna get into it, but I have a, I have a personal reason for despising Hair- Hairball.
• 14:56
And so the fact that they're bragging about, like they said there was 10,000 people in the streets, and it looked like it. I mean, it looked like it was wall-to-wall people. And I'm like- Oh, I'm glad I didn't go...
• 15:05
"Hey," that was what? Ames? Yeah. I don't think it- Ames was hairy. And it was, it was in the '90s, so I'm thinking- Yeah... 90 degrees- Super muggy... that close in a really shitty band.
• 15:12
You people are drinking far too much. Yep. 'Cause I couldn't, I couldn't do it. Uh- Yeah. We had, uh, Loudmouth Brass at our host home that night, so we just hung out at the host home. Nice.
• 15:22
And most of our host homes, the problem with bigger towns is you get into host homes that are, like, you know, four to 10 miles away from where actually all the activity is.
• 15:32
So that kind of deters you from wanting to go into town. Well, yeah, but I think generally speaking, the people that, I don't know, maybe not, I mean, j- when I did- I just get sketched out dr-...
• 15:44
the- Like, biking in city, like leaving my bike out somewhere to get stolen- Well, that's it, yeah... A, and then biking home at night, like, drunk and, like, in the cities. I don't wanna get hit by a car or something.
• 15:54
No, I totally agree. And, you know, and, and, um, it just seemed to me like when I did it, the people that stayed in host homes that were out had no intentions of ever coming into town. Mm-hmm.
• 16:06
And they were, they would ride to their place. They had their food there, whatever. What was with the, um, the guy with the tractors in the shed? Yeah. That was a really cool host home. Um, he just collected tractors.
• 16:18
He kind of did like Spinner's parents, where they, like, go around to shows and stuff and like- Oh, okay. Yep... um, do parades and whatnot. But yeah, his, he had all these giant pole sheds of just, like,
• 16:30
like old John Deere tractors. Like it was a museum. But what- And his house was amazing. Like the people you meet when you get some of these host homes, I'm just like blown away. I'm like, "What do you do for your job?"
• 16:41
[laughs] Like, "I need to rethink my career." Well, I mean, it, it is a thing on RAGBRAI. You have to admit that, you know. There's a guy like that.
• 16:47
He's got, they line their tractors up on their, in the front yard and stuff. Yeah, it was, it looked like there was a lot more ditch sitting going on, too- Yeah... than normal. I mean, we always did it anyway.
• 16:56
We didn't care. We would start a party in, in somebody's ditch that didn't want one there, but, but it just seemed like there was a lot more of it with, you know, just finding shade. Yeah. Yeah.
• 17:04
It was a struggle to find shade, and yeah, that's why we would make bar stops, so we can get some AC and shade for a little bit. Sure, yeah. Um, and I'd been training.
• 17:13
I wanted to keep up with the fast guys on the team, so that was kind of my whole goal. So it was a little bit different RAGBRAI for me, 'cause I was trying to keep up with those guys the whole time- [laughs]...
• 17:22
you know, flying. Like, their average on a casual day is like 20 plus. So like [laughs] I was definitely, like, trying to... I was struggling- And-... to keep up. And- I did okay until we did the climbing part. Oh. Yeah.
• 17:34
Well, some of those climbs are pretty... They're, you know, if you can get a good run downhill, but even- Yeah... 'cause there were a lot of, there was a lot of deep valleys and then straight up out, right? Oh, yeah.
• 17:43
Yeah. The rollers are fine. It's when you go to a flat to, like, one of those, like, long graduals, then eventually I drop off, 'cause I just can't keep the power up.
• 17:52
Well, and, and you still don't wear cycling shoes, do you? Nope. Drives Casey and everybody insane. They're like, "Do you realize how much faster you'd be?"
• 17:59
And I'm like, "Somehow I keep on getting stronger, so I think I'm fine." [laughs] Fine. And I haven't crashed yet. No, I- I'm like the only one that hasn't crashed... no, no.
• 18:06
[laughs] I, it's, I don't know if you'd be a good spinner. You're more power. Yeah, I'm like a Clydesdale. Yeah, yeah. And so maybe you wouldn't like it, I don't know. Your feet- Well, I clip into my Peloton...
• 18:17
your- But I don't like it. I know, I already see that stink face. [laughs] I do clip in on an exercise bike. That, that's, that's possibly the dumbest thing I've ever heard. [laughs] Like, you're gonna f- Yeah...
• 18:28
it's g- it's like- You don't have to clip in on that... this, this, does it keep- But I do... does it keep you from falling off? Yeah, it does. From, from fucking boredom? Sometimes I go real fast. Oh, from boredom.
• 18:37
[laughs] I've done centuries on... It is boring. I can imagine. Yeah. I know Trevor and those guys used to ride theirs, and they, and they would watch movies. Yeah, that's what I do. Not a movie, like two movies.
• 18:48
Yeah, that's what I do. Yeah, you do the two? Yep. I have g- I have at least partial life that I would never do that [laughs] shit. [laughs] I tried, I did try it once with them.
• 18:56
Actually, they went to where we're using rollers. Oh, those things- So they actually had to focus for a bit. Yeah. Yeah. And try, and Trevor would do- That's tough... Trevor would do [laughs] two movies on rollers.
• 19:05
Oh my gosh. Yeah, he's nuts. Yeah, that's another level. I'm not there yet. Someday. No. [laughs] That's why they have fat bikes. You can go outside and ride your bike. You don't have to be inside.
• 19:14
[clears throat] Yeah, I do have those too. Um, what else? Uh... So we talked about the nudist. There was a guy that rode backwards on his bike, so like a little BMX bike- Yeah...
• 19:25
that was going forward, but he sat on it backwards, and he did over 500 miles backwards. He did it that way the whole way? Yep. And then the, the dude with the red, white, and blue, um, penny-farther- The, yeah...
• 19:34
high bike, he- I saw him- Yeah... quite a few times. I saw a bunch of people t- a lot of people were taking their pictures with him. Yeah. He looked like he was doing well. Um- There was also a double-decker. Yep.
• 19:42
So a guy had, like, welded two bikes together, and then, like- It was a-... chained... that was one of the Iowa guys. The Bike Iowa guys? Yeah. Well, no. I don't think so. No, I was thinking the Osage guys. Oh.
• 19:56
I, uh, 'cause- That would be cool. I'd like to- Because I got a-... talk to him more... I got a, and I thought it was from them, but I'd, I'd, whoever that was, I know. Okay.
• 20:04
I don't remember who it was now, but- It was, like, a red... Yeah, it was a double-decker- Yeah, yep... two bikes that were welded together, and then he, like, chained- Yep... them to- It was a cool setup.
• 20:13
Um, but yeah, he- You want one?... biked the whole thing. No, I don't need that bike. I know, I know s- I know, I know there's about- [laughs]... I know there's about four in this town that you can have, I bet you.
• 20:22
Oh my gosh. I can't get on it. I tried it a couple times. Yeah, that's the thing. I- I don't think I could either. [laughs] I don't have, I don't have the, I don't have the climbing ability.
• 20:30
[laughs] Um, the troopers were super fun this year. Looked like it, yeah. Yeah. They had, they officially named themselves Team Buzz Kill, and they handed out wristbands.
• 20:40
I'm not wearing mine tonight, but Team Buzz Kill wristbands. Did they really? Yeah. I love those guys. So they have their own team now, too.
• 20:46
Yeah, they really made a turnaround from a couple years ago when I think I'd talked on that podcast how they were really bad, and we had to have all these, like, meetings and stuff. I, but I, but
• 20:56
I, I will never blame the troopers themselves. We've had, we've had- You can't turn away people from getting water. It's not- That was the biggest thing that year... but that's their job. That, that, that's not them.
• 21:05
That's the directive they were given. I guarantee- Yeah... I will guarantee you that. That's, they're there to enforce somebody else's bullshit. Yeah. That's the problem.
• 21:12
And that- But yeah, the troopers were super cool this year. It was- I mean, if you have a buddy that's standing there sleeping with a beer can on his chest, and they go, "Hey, your buddy's still standing there."
• 21:20
You go, "Yeah, is he sleeping?" They go, "Yes." "How long can he do that for?" You go, "I don't know. Should we see?" He goes, "Yeah." [laughs] So, so they're all, they are good guys, but- Yeah... um, yeah.
• 21:30
We have a picture in front of our bus with our favorite, um, trooper. [laughs] Um, what else? They did do Tip Cup again this year. Uh, of course- Of course... Jackhammer won. Of course.
• 21:41
Um, our host home was, I don't know, again, far out of town.
• 21:45
Nobody wanted to bike into town, so we didn't partake, and it sounds like a lot of teams kinda, like, bailed just 'cause, again, bigger cities, it's hard to, like, congregate all the people into one place.
• 21:55
Well, and if it's a, if it's a normal RAGBRAI, they're not spread out that far either. Yeah. Don't you think? Yep. I mean, I mean, I was surprised at how many teams...
• 22:05
Um, was it you guys, or was it, or was it Jeremy that was looking for a place till, like, with a couple days to go before you left? Was it you guys, or was it Jeremy? Must've been Jeremy.
• 22:15
Mm, we pretty much, um, had all of our host homes taken care of except for, uh, Toma or Tama, Toledo. That, we had to rough it that night. We were, like, in a business, like, grassy lot.
• 22:28
Um, and we had to just fill our, um, bus tank with water and just- [laughs]... hope that 57 people could get through it. You, you do understand that that's our every RAGBRAI. Yeah. It's- No, not with Team Roater.
• 22:41
We're kinda bougie. That's what I like. God, I can't stand it. [laughs] Not at all. Though the meals is a bit much. I don't need the catered meals or any of that, 'cause I don't really eat a lot on RAGBRAI anyway.
• 22:51
Well, you're supposed to eat on RAGBRAI. You're not supposed to, like, pig out at the end of the night. Yeah, I don't- I mean, you-... do either. Yeah.
• 22:56
I literally [laughs]- It, it, I have to admit, it is hard to eat during the day. Yeah. 'Cause there's a beer in your way. Yeah. And there's a- I'm trying to save room for my drinks. Yeah, yeah.
• 23:06
And all the water, and I was getting yelled at 'cause I wasn't drinking enough water, which was legit. I needed to get yelled at for that. I probably should've been- Oh... water shamed a few times.
• 23:13
There, there should've been, like, a, a loudspeaker just announcing every 10 miles- Yeah... "How much water have you drank?" You know? Yep. "Do you fill your water bottles?"
• 23:20
It was the, um, did the Air Force have their truck out? Their truck? Well, the Air Force used to bring a tru- a water truck. Nope, didn't see that. Oh. But the Air Force was in full fledge helping people.
• 23:31
They had a ton of people this year. Nice. Oh, really? Yeah. That's, that's an amazing group. I mean, they- Yeah... and they, and it's like,
• 23:39
I, I, I do know for a fact that, that locally, if you join the Air Force, they do ask if you ride a bicycle about RAGBRAI. It is- Oh, really? It is a, it is a question that the, um, recruiters will ask you. Oh, okay.
• 23:52
Because it's, it, it, it is a thing. Yeah. I mean, they, they, around here, they understand it, but I, I just in general though, it just, uh, blows me away how many Air Force people are huge into cycling. Yep.
• 24:02
Yeah, they're strong. I did have a proud moment where I helped pull some Air Force guys, 'cause they were getting tired, and I don't mind.
• 24:09
I don't like climbing, but I don't mind the wind, so I will help pull as much as I can on, like, the flats, and I was super proud that I was, like, pulling these Air Force guys. I'm like, "I made it." [laughs] I wish...
• 24:18
Somebody should've got a picture. [laughs] That would've been awesome. You deserve that. [laughs] Yeah. I was super proud of that. But yeah, it was, it was crazy.
• 24:25
Like, that was kinda how you had to survive RAGBRAI too, was just all the pace lines. But there was some days where it was all the climbing.
• 24:32
It's really hard to keep a pace line when [laughs] you're doing all those climbs. That's, that's hilarious, 'cause you know what Turner gave me? Huh? A sign that said, from RAGBRAI, that those...
• 24:40
I mean, it's a really nice plastic sign that says something about no pace lines. [laughs] Oh, yeah. It says it right- Yeah. Oh... when you register every year. It's like, "Here's all the rules, and no pace line here."
• 24:47
Well, there was, there was like a big yellow, like, a yield sign, and it says that. It's... Anyway, he, he brought me one back. It's hanging up in my garage in Decorah right now. Oh my gosh.
• 24:55
I need a picture of that, for sure. [laughs] Oh, I, I'll send it to you. [laughs] Yeah, it's funny. It, it's, um... So anyway, but I mean, overal- so finishing town, was it everybody got there and just blew out?
• 25:06
When it was- Where was the fini- what was the finishing town? Um, the finishing town was Davenport. Oh. We had a really awesome, awesome host home that night, too. Um, relatives of Lily, I believe.
• 25:17
They had, you know, like, those graduations where they have, like, the little s- the signs where, like, congratulations, whatever. Yep.
• 25:23
They had that with, like, RAGBRAI, like fancy signs out front, and then they had, like, tents set up back with Spotted Cow on kegs, and, like, a full-fledged, like, dinner of, like, nachos and desserts and oh my gosh.
• 25:38
We were definitely spoiled that night. Wow, nice. They took very good care of us. No, it's, and- And we got indoor sleeping. We don't normally, we didn't normally, I mean, seldom did we stay in the overnight towns.
• 25:47
The, the ending town. We would usually try to get partway back to Decorah- Yeah...
• 25:51
and then stay someplace like, again, like, you know, at a relative's place or something like that where we could all crash in the yard or something.
• 25:57
Normally we do the same, too, but 'cause they were such great hosts and, like, we were still far enough away, we were like, "We might as well just stay."
• 26:03
Well, and that's a, and, and- And that way you don't have to rush people to the finishing area. I was gonna say, after a full day of riding- Yeah... how, how much was the last day?
• 26:10
Uh, I think it was still 70 to 80 miles. Was it really? Yeah. 'Cause usually it was like 40. But the climbing wasn't as bad, 'cause I remember- Sure... 'cause the day before, so day six was where I, like, almost died.
• 26:20
[laughs] And so day seven I was surprised that I felt so good again, but I think that's 'cause it wasn't so much climbing again. It was still windy, but, like, it was, um, still I think like 70 miles.
• 26:32
That's, yeah, because I remember them being like 35, 40. Like, nothing just to get you done. So you put in- S- yeah, 70...
• 26:38
I would've stayed then, too, 'cause a 70-mile day and then, and then you guys have to drive back from Davenport, and that's a shitty drive. To, from Davenport to Rochester. Jack Hammer's did it.
• 26:47
They drove all the way back to Des Moines and then drove to Rochester. What? Yeah. Why'd they have to go back to Des Moines? Um, 'cause that's where a lot of, like, their people, like, met up. Oh.
• 26:57
Either they met in Rochester or Des Moines, and they, like, crashed at Joel's house. So, you know there's a group, you know, y- you know, the, um, the Bad Boys.
• 27:05
So they used to ride to the end and then turn around and spend the next week riding back. Yeah, they bike out from Colorado. Yeah. Well, they don't, they bring their stuff. Mm, they still, I think, bike from Colorado.
• 27:16
Oh, they've always just, what they used to do is come and drop off at the starting point and ride the route, and then turn around and ride the route back.
• 27:24
Yeah, that was last year or the year before he told me that he biked out from... I talked to one of the guys- Oh, cool... 'cause Todd was giving him shit.
• 27:30
Well, I started giving him shit, 'cause you know how they used to have, like, the big bar set-ups and all the, you know, the blenders and the coolers. Oh, yeah.
• 27:38
And the one guy, he just had, like, a tote set, like a table like this with, like, a tote on it, and I was like, "Oh, we're getting soft, huh?"
• 27:45
And then Todd started laying into it, and then all of a sudden we go into the bar and some guy comes behind us and he's like, "I heard yous think we're getting soft these days." [laughs] And I'm like, "Oh, shit."
• 27:54
[laughs] And he's like, "I still bike from Colorado with this," and I'm like, "Okay, yeah, you're legit." Wow. I didn't know they did that. Back, back when I knew them, I'm assuming it's the same guys.
• 28:04
Maybe n- I don't know if all of them do it... I, I was gonna say, b- b- back then w- because they had, so they originally started out, they had the grill and a cooler. Mm-hmm.
• 28:13
And then the third guy started the bar and it got bigger and bigger, and the bar was probably, I'll bet by the end of it, the bar had to be the heaviest thing out there. Oh, for sure.
• 28:21
And they were just riding shitty mountain bikes if I remember, right? I don't know what they're riding now. I guess I never even paid attention to the bike.
• 28:28
Honestly, all of them- I'm just paying attention to the stuff they carry... you know, this day and age, I wonder if they're riding cargo bikes. I bet it was more cargo bikes now. Yeah. Yeah.
• 28:34
I mean, you can build everything you want onto it. I'll tell you. Yep. I, I, I really am kinda bummed I didn't go, but I'm not disappointed at all that I didn't go, you know what I mean?
• 28:43
It's- It was just a very different, and, like, I was just biking with Casey the other night and we were kinda catching up, trying to get over the RAGBRAI blues, and, uh, he just said, "It's just a very different-" Yeah, so I guess, you guys went out to Douglas, right?
• 28:54
Yeah. [laughs] Yep. Of course. Yeah, we went out to Pine Island and back. It was nice. Like, I was surprised how well my legs still felt. Like, I thought I was gonna be dead yet.
• 29:03
Um, but he also said, he was like, "It's just a different RAGBRAI."
• 29:06
Like, it wasn't, there was still parties, but it wasn't like the normal, like, big parties that we normally have with the teams, and, like, just harder to- I wonder, I wonder if would, that makes me almost feel like-...
• 29:16
push through stops. Yeah... that almost makes it feel like it would be more back when we did RAGBRAI, 'cause it wasn't big... The stuff that you guys do was, I mean, there was teams, but all the teams stayed
• 29:28
in the main campgrounds and- Oh, lame... and, and no, no, we had a blast. You know, your team is here, my team's over there, and we all hung out and- Oh...
• 29:36
hung out on your buses and, you know, slept in camps and- We would pick a bar, in previous years where we always try to get together, we pick, like, a bar, and we have, like, our team chats in our captain forums, and we'll pick a bar and be like, "Hey, this is where all the, this is where Casey's gonna be DJ-ing tonight," or, "This is where we have a daiquiri bar," or whatever.
• 29:54
And we'd all, all the teams would meet up there. Um, this year there wasn't as much of that. We were kinda all over the place. Well- And, and I suppose next year... So there's, there's still, is there still talk of a...
• 30:09
'Cause we used to do is we used to ride off route There, so the Ames and Des Moines day, a lot of teams did go off route Yeah, and then, and then do, like, but it turns into a bunch of gravel.
• 30:19
So isn't there, are they still talking about doing an official gravel road? They did do a gravel ride this year, too. But just a day. Yeah, just a day.
• 30:27
They're, weren't they talking about doing a full gravel across to Iowa that somewhat mimics, that follows or at least uses the same towns? Isn't there another ride that's gravel across to Iowa?
• 30:37
Well, there's, there's Trans Iowa, but that's- Oh, yeah... that's a race, and that's different time of year. Oh, okay. This would be more casual. Just I, I was- Yeah...
• 30:45
under the impression they're trying to get something that, like, mimic the route so you kinda use the same towns and stuff, but you could ride the whole route in gravel. Yep. Um- Which to me would be a bitch...
• 30:54
no one did the sewing day. Mm. Kinda, 'cause then you're getting less support. Like, we really relied on the towns to get water this year. So if you're doing gravel,
• 31:04
you're gonna miss a lot of those towns Then you go back to old ride, right, like we used to do, you just go up and knock on a farmer's door and say, "Can we borrow some water?" Yeah.
• 31:11
And they're always really good about it. I did that, too. [laughs] Definitely had to do that this year, too. That's good. I mean, that's- Um, fun vendors. So Farm Kids was back. That was super exciting. Oh, nice.
• 31:25
They're that really good breakfast joint- Yep... that, uh, and it's, they're, it's a family-run vendor. And, uh, yeah, they killed it again this year.
• 31:33
Like, the way that they just get people through those lines is awesome.
• 31:37
And then, uh, there was a really fun, like, kind of daiquiri truck, or, um, wine slushy truck that had, like, really fun stuff that people were in love with.
• 31:46
Um, we got to go through the, um, Iowa State University, um- Oh, I saw pictures. I don't- And also- Was that you guys?... University of Iowa. Our group- Somebody said five schools Five schools?
• 32:00
That they got to ride through the stadiums. Oh, I only recall ISU and Iowa. Yeah, that's all I could think of. But, but they, somebody said they did five. Oh, maybe.
• 32:10
There must be some s- there's a lot of schools along the way. Yeah. But that was- I mean, we were definitely going through college territory, for sure. I think, I think Brett took a picture.
• 32:18
It was, that must've been at Iowa. Yeah. And the Jackhammer's got a really good, like, video going through the Iowa, like, stadium. Well, maybe that's what it was. I couldn't remember.
• 32:26
One of the, one of your, one of your two groups did, yeah, yeah. Yep. Um, my group, when I left with them, we had just missed...
• 32:34
I remember seeing a sign, but I was like, you know, [laughs] still trying to, like, get recuperated from the day before, so I just kept biking.
• 32:40
And then that night we're like, "Oh, we totally missed going through the stadium," which is fine. Like, would, would it have been a cool experience? Yes.
• 32:48
But we also, again, long days, just wanting to get through the day. I, I don't think I could bring myself to be the guy walking through Iowa Hawkeyes stadium and taking pictures.
• 32:57
That would be just, like, A, wrong, and B, I'd never be able to live it down if I did, so I, that's not gonna happen. Why, 'cause you're a Minnesota boy?
• 33:05
Just because, yeah, and we, and we make fun of Iowa Hawkeye fans, so. Oh my gosh. So- And you're friends with Spinner and me? He's not a Hawkeye fan. Thought he was. No, he's a Viking fan. He's retarded.
• 33:17
[laughs] Do you hear that, Spinner? Yeah, no, he's- You're not here, dude... those guys are, those guys are in Bentonville. They left- Spinner's in Bentonville right now? They left, uh, Thursday.
• 33:27
And I didn't get an invite? You- Rude... uh, no, I'm sure you, you weren't gonna be invited on this ride. This is- [laughs] This is kinda like, I think this is the old, it used to be all the wrestlers that went.
• 33:37
There's a group of wrestlers that rode bike, and it was Spinner and, and O'Gara. And so Spinner and O'Gara are going. I don't remember who else was- Yeah, but I've gone to Bentonville, like, how many times now?
• 33:45
Not with those guys. Yeah, but I would show them the cool spots. Oh, like they don't already know. They don't know. Huh? They don't know the cool spots.
• 33:52
I got money that says they, they've been, they were probably to those places before you were born. No. Yeah. Nuh-uh. This, Spinner has never been to Bentonville before. Mm-hmm. I didn't think he was. Oh, yeah.
• 34:06
Well, we'll see. We almost got, but then Spinner had to go down and talk to the captain, but we almost got, we got the start of... But that wasn't Bentonville. It was, it was Ozarks, I think.
• 34:16
Have you ever heard the, uh, the O'Gara-Spinner story where Spinner got lost? No. Oh my God, it's two hours long. [laughs] Okay, so not today. And we do, and we do, and we do have to make this a podcast.
• 34:26
The problem is, is I don't think either one of them have the video. Because you would literally stop a bonfire, and those guys would go and they'd bring their phones. Because, and then, and then
• 34:37
O'Gara's telling his, but they, they're riding together and then they get separated, right? And then, and he was, and, and Burkart was with them, makes the story even funnier.
• 34:45
But, uh, the long story, they get separated, and so there's O'Gara's story where, with the cops and stuff, and the, and the DNR, and there's Spinner's story of being lost in the woods, right?
• 34:57
[laughs] So the, the two stories are like, well, he's doing this, he's doing this, and they get, and they've got photo history to go with it, which is even funnier yet, right? Oh my gosh.
• 35:04
And it, but I'm not kidding you, it takes two hours to tell the story, and you stop laughing for about five seconds 'cause it's just, they go from one guy to the other. It's fucking hilarious.
• 35:14
Between those two, there's never a dull moment- Oh, I know, I know... so I'm not surprised. No, and they, and they stop. [laughs] So we, we took the speedy bike out here,
• 35:22
the, the, uh, one-by-one with the, with the aero bars. Mm-hmm. And so everybody stopped by the house on Wednesday night down there. And we, uh, it was sitting out front. People got all excited.
• 35:32
O'Gara drove by, like, twice and then had to stop. [laughs] And then everybody, and everybody took it, and we all were riding down.
• 35:37
So by the time you got to Sean's house, who's the local roadie and always, always in aero bars, you had to be in a tuck in the aero bars. [laughs] And, uh, and everybody's like, "This is stupid."
• 35:46
We're going, "Yeah, it's stupid all right." So it's a Surly one-by-one, the, their anniversary bike that was, uh, their 11th anniversary bike. And so it's a one-by-one. Super cool. And then super stock. Yeah.
• 35:57
I mean, everything on it, it's these different saddle, and he changed the chain ring up front type of thing. But otherwise, it's all stock.
• 36:03
And then he put aero bars on it 'cause he had a bad back, and he thought this was gonna be better. And it, and it was [laughs]... Oh, by the way, the selling point to buying this bike, so this, this, this is funny.
• 36:12
There's this little black dude from the cities, and he goes, "And you know what?" He goes, "I keep this thing well oiled." He goes, "You know, so three, four pedal strokes, you can coast forever."
• 36:20
And I'm like, "You're on a single speed." [laughs] Oh, my- You've go- y- you're commuting, and you take three, four pedal strokes, and you coast in aero bars.
• 36:28
It, it would've been just the funniest [censored] thing to see in my life. Oh, my gosh. I, I get it what he was trying to do. Yeah. You know? And he just said, "It doesn't work."
• 36:34
He goes, "Five minutes, my back still hurts, so"- Oh... so he, he sold it for 200 bucks. And I'm like, "My-" He got that for $200? Yeah. That's a sick bike.
• 36:41
So, so S- so Spinner sends it to me, and I'm like, I, I, you know, was on a Facebook messa- or Facebook Marketplace, and it was in here in Rochester. And I, I sent the guy a note, you know.
• 36:50
It's the, "Is this bike still available?" And on the back side, I added, "Size?" with a question mark. And then I go, "I don't really care. I'm buying it anyway." [laughs] So I got...
• 37:01
So it's a large, so it fits all of us. I mean, we could all... Their, their frames aren't that big. Awesome. It's too big for me to ride. Oh, no, you could ride it. So Gira rode it. A large?
• 37:09
It, it's, it's only like a 19. Small large? Yeah. Oh, okay. It's only like a 19, you know? And don't forget, I mean, my measurement is seat post or seat tube. Oh, okay.
• 37:17
And don't forget, there's like an inch and a half seat tube above the top tube. Gotcha. So I mean, you still have to go by that because that's as low as the seat goes. But- Yeah...
• 37:25
but, um, but yeah, so, so I bought it, and I took it down to Decorah. [laughs] And so, so as I'm gonna go get it, I told Spinner, "I'm going to get it." And I go, I send him back, "I got it."
• 37:35
And I go, "Did I buy this or did you buy this?" [laughs] And then he just laughs and goes, "Well..." And he, jokingly, he goes, "How about we split it?" I'm like, "Okay." So he comes to the house.
• 37:45
He brings his- Split custody of a bike. [laughs] You know. You guys are cute. So he goes, "That's really funny." So he gives me 100 bucks for the bike, right?
• 37:52
And then now we're in discussion on, on, uh, on, uh, w- Every other weekend. Yeah, I, I wanted Monday, Wednesday, and every other weekend.
• 38:01
[laughs] And he's already trying to figure out that it doesn't work out because you ne- we already need to switch weekends. [laughs] Oh, gosh.
• 38:08
And then, and then he hands, and when he hands me the 100 bucks, I go, he goes, "Here, here's your alimony payment." [laughs] So, so and it's, and it's like it's gonna wind up...
• 38:20
The, the only bad thing is I, I'm probably gonna do it. I know you can still buy the stickers. Oh, yeah. Because they had the stickers.
• 38:26
I think I'm gonna put new stickers on it 'cause most of the stickers were w- I mean, legitimately, the guy used this as a commuter bike. Mm-hmm.
• 38:33
The guy he bought it from, I kinda thought it was stolen, not because the person that had it, just because it's like who's selling this bike for 100, for 200 bucks? Right? They just didn't know any different.
• 38:44
You know, the guy who bought it probably bought it when they were, like, kinda, they kinda, like, blew out the last couple. And they were like 500 bucks or something, so he bought it. Oh, okay.
• 38:51
He bought it, and then he rode it for a while. And he sold it to his buddy for, and this, he sold it to me for a couple hundred bucks. You know, they just get their money back out of it. Mm-hmm.
• 38:58
[laughs] And I, I don't really care, but also thinking is it's got flip-flop pedals on it. You know, it's, somebody wants those, it's 25 bucks. Aero bars, they can, I'll sell to some fucking nerd for 10 bucks.
• 39:08
[laughs] I'm like, I'll give him... The frame, it's got the original tires on it, and they're 24 by 3 inch, they're 24-inch w- rims on there. Mm-hmm. So you can fit the 3-inch tires on there, right? Mm-hmm.
• 39:19
That's how they kinda did that back then. So I mean, it's got everything. I mean, it's, it's like they're red Surly hubs.
• 39:25
They're, the only time they did really is the red hubs are for that bike, so- Yeah, that's pretty cool... uh, yeah, you know?
• 39:30
And they're, there's Surly hubs that you can rebuild those suckers things, so they, they'll, they'll last forever. So everything on this- Oh, okay... it's pretty cool. Yeah, it's, uh... Now I have two.
• 39:38
[laughs] Well, technically, one and a half. Why not? Yeah. I have technically one and a half because- Yeah... this one, the other one's in a custody battle right now. [laughs] You guys are cute.
• 39:50
So, uh, one more thing that we forgot to add, and, and, um, the full spectrum guys are coming. Um, is it October? First week in October is Osage, and we're camping. Wait, first weekend of October? I think so.
• 40:05
Like, the first, like, the first and second? I don't know. That's the Kentucky Bourbon duathlon. Is it really? And then you were talking of Baro- Barcelona. Is that still a thing?
• 40:15
No, I'm off 'cause I have to go to culture clinic. Okay, so do it that weekend. Like, I'll fly back from Las Vegas, and then we can go to Osage. So I'll probably get back that Saturday. Yeah.
• 40:28
I have to, I'm gonna have to go to Facebook, sadly. Um- Oh, like, it's already a Facebook event? Yeah. Oh. Well, you've already- It's on, it's on the, the GOATS, and I'm signed up for it.
• 40:41
Oh, and I can't do the Filthy 50 'cause that's Mike V.'s birthday party. [gasps] Filthy 50 might be the same weekend. Uh, the Oktoberfest, here it is. Yeah. That's October 14th is Filthy 50. Oh.
• 40:51
And then I have a wedding reception on my birthday weekend, which I might try to get out of. What in the hell is going on here? Or if I- Every day we struggle. [gasps] I have glasses. Never mind. I got this.
• 41:01
[laughs] Oh, funny what those things show. I got this. October 7th. Mm-hmm. That works. Perfect. For Osage? Yeah, that's Sat- Sat- Saturday's the 7th, so we probably go over Friday and camp. Okay.
• 41:14
I'll be flying back, but, um, I'll meet you guys eventually. Okay. Oh, that's also the Mankato River Ramble. I think that's supposed to be fun, too, but Osage- I've seen a lot of stuff posted about that. Mm-hmm.
• 41:25
You know, the funny thing is, is Facebook is... Oh, [censored], we're almost over. No, we're okay. Um, Facebook has made it so it's so easy to find stuff now. Yeah. I don't wanna say find stuff.
• 41:36
It just automatically comes to your face, if you think about it. I mean- I think it's called AI. It's got AI... and that's kinda scary, and it's kinda scary, too. Ooh. Like, but I don't like it for hockey
• 41:47
because I get stuff from other associations and little, and little tournaments and cool little things that are going on just because I do a lot of hockey stuff on there. Yeah. And, and, uh,
• 41:58
half of them don't tell you where it's at. You think, "Well, this sounds cool." It's New England, for Christ sake. [laughs] I'm not going to New England. God. Yeah, you can switch those up so you don't see those
• 42:14
Uh, it sounds like work. I'll just wheel by them. I'm not seeing a lot for November or December yet, so. So, so here's a question. Do we, because you are this... Do we need to start doing a calendar?
• 42:26
I'm not sure the three people that listen to this podcast give two shits, but should we start doing a calendar of rides? We could. We probably should. Yeah. And then Greg can just post them for us.
• 42:39
Would it just be, like, a direct link on the page? I don't know. We'll have to find out. Yeah. We'll have to find out what our boss says. Yeah. I don't know what to do. Is that Greg? Yeah. Okay.
• 42:48
Find out what he says, what he wants to do. He probably has a good way to do it. It'd be something... It would, it would, it would be on a full spectrum cycling site of some sort.
• 42:55
'Cause then they can add, like, theirs, too. Right. Like, I have all the ones that I'm interested in, but those are the only ones that I know about.
• 43:01
There's, I think there's a, I think there's a big cross where the other thing is, you know, Milwaukee's not that far away. Mm-hmm. And they, they have a lot of cool...
• 43:07
If you're into- They have a lot, especially in the winter... the... And, no, the thing is, well, because it's, the winters are so much milder. Yeah, I've noticed that. Um, and, you know, and the cities guys do, too.
• 43:17
We don't, I don't get the... Mini- I've always loved Minneapolis cycling. That, that scene up there is the greatest ever. Mm-hmm. That being said, they're a bit pompous. They don't bother to post it anywhere.
• 43:32
They have enough- I think you just gotta find the right pages. That's how I finally- Yeah... found the Taco Bell. It's one of the race teams up in the cities. Oh, okay. Whale, Whale Cycling, Whale Racing- Oh, yeah...
• 43:42
or something. Yeah. Yeah. Um, you know, and, and- But there are so many... and Hollywood and those guys post a lot of stuff, but that's- Yeah...
• 43:46
on the rides that they're going on and the stuff that they're doing, you know, the... And, and it's usually post. Like, they're on the way there. They don't, like, post it up ahead of time.
• 43:54
That's, that's- And we should put, like, on the calendar, 'cause we can post all the ones we know about, but put, like, a star on the ones we're actually planning on going to. Perfect. So that way our listeners know.
• 44:03
So everybody co- so the one listener can come hang out with us. [laughs] Yeah. Yeah. It's good. This one. [laughs] Yeah, that one. Yeah. You and, yeah, and you. [laughs] People, there's been more people listening.
• 44:14
I can tell because all of a sudden I had a bunch of Snapchat ads after that one where I put... Brad's like, "What's your Snapchat name?" [laughs] No shit. Really? Yeah. Wow. So- So now we got six people listening? Yeah.
• 44:26
Well, or, or you've got some nerd that does advertising shit just, just kinda, like, ghosting you. Probably. [laughs] It's all right. Ghosting is fun. [laughs] Ghosting is fun. And that's our takeaway, folks.
• 44:38
Ghosting is fun. Mm-hmm. Yeah. Why not? All right. That's enough for tonight, don't you think? Mm-hmm. Let me see if I can make this work. I tried this before. We're gonna see if it works. Here's the ending.
• 44:46
See if it works. Oh, does it- Oof. That was terrible. That'll hurt somebody's ears. Okay, bye.
• 45:01
[upbeat music] Oh, and then it just died. Shit. Oh, all right. We're done. Goodbye. Whale shit. Bye. [laughs] That's the best possible way to end. [laughs]
