- 0:02Matthew chapter 18. Let us pray.
- 0:09Our Father, Our Father, Our Father, the whole world, every
- 0:23land, every continent, every geographical place.
- 0:28Our Father. You're a good Father.
- 0:40You are in heaven. You're here with us as well.
- 0:48You are omnipresent. You're everywhere, Father.
- 0:54You see everything. You know everything holy is your
- 1:02name. Let us keep your name, Holy
- 1:04Father, I pray against those that take your name lightly,
- 1:10those that blasphemy your name. Father, I pray that we will keep
- 1:14your name holy. Pray for your Kingdom, Father,
- 1:23to come on this earth. Lord, breakdown our Kingdom.
- 1:27Breakdown the Kingdom that we're trying to build for ourselves on
- 1:33this earth. Lord, I pray that you will
- 1:35demolish and destroy it, God. And we pray for your Kingdom to
- 1:41come. Lord, I pray that we can live in
- 1:45light of eternity. I pray, Lord, that we will not
- 1:48be selfish. Lord, I pray that we will not
- 1:52just be puffed up with pride and be lovers of self and lovers of
- 1:57money, lovers of pleasure. I pray we will not turn our
- 2:04backs on you, God, for the pursuit of wealth.
- 2:09Lord, I pray for your Kingdom to come.
- 2:15We pray for your will, God to be done, Lord.
- 2:18Not ours, not what we want, not life the way we think it should
- 2:24go, God, but your will. Lord, let us get out of our own
- 2:29way. We are acknowledging you and we
- 2:32are believing. You're going to direct our steps
- 2:34today. Lord, Your will come to this
- 2:39earth, and your Kingdom come here just as it is there, as you
- 2:45are planning it out, as you're going to prepare a place for us.
- 2:49Bring it here to this earth, and let heaven touch earth.
- 2:52God, let us be pure in heart. God, I pray that we'll see you,
- 2:56Father. Lord, I pray that you will give
- 3:07us Our Daily Bread today. Lord, I pray that we'll munch on
- 3:12these scriptures. We'll munch on the bread of
- 3:15life. We'll drink up the living water
- 3:18today. Lord, I pray that you'll forgive
- 3:26us for all the times that we have messed up and fallen short
- 3:30and trespassed and sinned. Lord, I pray that we will
- 3:37forgive others just as you have forgiven us, Lord.
- 3:41Lord, we will not be stingy with our forgiveness.
- 3:44We'll forgive those that haven't even asked us for forgiveness,
- 3:48God. We'll extend grace out to those
- 3:51that are still caught up in sin, Lord, that they don't even see
- 3:56it. Lord, we'll extend it out to
- 3:58him, Father. Lord, knowing that nothing that
- 4:02they have done could ever grieve us as much as the sin that we
- 4:08have committed has grieved you, God, and you have forgiven us,
- 4:12so we extend that out, Father. Lord, I pray that we will be not
- 4:18be LED into temptation. I pray that we will not be
- 4:23tempted, Father, by the tempter and the accuser of the brethren.
- 4:27God, I pray that we will do war today.
- 4:32Lord, I pray that we'll go to war today against our flesh and
- 4:36against the lusts and against the desires and against the
- 4:40temptations. God, I pray in the name of Jesus
- 4:43that you'll increase our footprint.
- 4:46Father, increase our tent stakes and strengthen them, Strengthen
- 4:51the cords. Father, I pray in the name of
- 4:54Jesus against the tares, God, I pray against the briars, God
- 5:02that are trying to choke us out. God, I pray in the name of
- 5:05Jesus, Lord, for a supernatural peace to come in to this camp,
- 5:11surround us and form a hedge around us.
- 5:13God of protection, deliver us, God, from all of the schemes of
- 5:23our enemy, our adversary, deliver us, God, make us more
- 5:28than conquerors today. Crush the head of rebellion.
- 5:32Father, I pray for yours is the Kingdom and the glory and the
- 5:39power forever and ever. Amen.
- 5:46We'll start in verse one. At the same time came the
- 5:53disciples unto Jesus, saying, Who is the greatest in the
- 5:57Kingdom of heaven? So you could see that they were
- 6:01just coming down from the mountain of Transfiguration, and
- 6:06they have driven out the demonic from the little boy.
- 6:10And you can see that they've walked on into Capernaum.
- 6:15And you can see that Peter has gone and paid the taxes.
- 6:20And then it was at that same time, here comes the disciples,
- 6:25and they want to know who is the greatest.
- 6:29And Jesus is going to dismantle all of their puffed up pride
- 6:34too. And Jesus called a little child
- 6:37unto him, and he set him in the midst of them.
- 6:41Jesus loves the little children. Here you can see how Jesus was a
- 6:50man who was so kind, so passionate.
- 6:58He was not scary. He was not somebody who
- 7:03disfigured his face so that he would look hardened.
- 7:10He was a kind man and he was the representative of God in the
- 7:17flesh. We could see the heart of God
- 7:21here, Friends. 3 And he said, truly I say unto you, except you
- 7:26be converted and become as little children, you shall not
- 7:31enter the Kingdom of heaven. What a statement.
- 7:33When you become a blood bought, born again Christian, you will
- 7:37understand this. You will know what it means to
- 7:41be humble and have humility and think of others as better than
- 7:44yourselves. You will not try to push your
- 7:47weight around. You will not try to act as if
- 7:51you were big and bad. You will be like a little child.
- 7:55There is nothing that is scary about a little child and that is
- 8:02what Jesus is saying. You must become like little
- 8:06children. You must have the faith like
- 8:08little children. They don't worry about if
- 8:12they're going to be fed. They know that they're going to
- 8:15be fed because their parents have their thinking about these
- 8:18things for their little children.
- 8:20And we must become like little children.
- 8:22And that is how we will be when we give our lives to the Lord
- 8:27and we're completely sold out, and we lay down all of the cares
- 8:30of this life, friends, And we trust ABBA.
- 8:38For whosoever therefore shall humble himself as this little
- 8:43child. The same is the greatest in the
- 8:46Kingdom of heaven. So you can see here that it is
- 8:49an upside down, inside out kind of Kingdom.
- 8:53And the greatest shall be called the least, and the least shall
- 8:56be called the greatest. And there are many who have
- 8:59their reward here and now, but whenever they get there, it will
- 9:02be as if they escaped out of a fire.
- 9:05And there are many who are subsisting off of just rice and
- 9:11polluted water. And there they will be called
- 9:14the greatest and they will be greatly rewarded for their
- 9:18faith. Friends, it's an upside down,
- 9:21inside out kind of Kingdom when it comes to following after the
- 9:24Lord God Almighty. And we need to understand that
- 9:29yes, he can give us good gifts now and we can start to live
- 9:33inside of the sphere of heaven now.
- 9:36And praise the Lord, Hallelujah, He gives good gifts to his
- 9:40children. But you need to know that heaven
- 9:44will be the place where we truly come in to the fullness of what
- 9:50God has for us here. We only get to see pieces and
- 9:54glimpses of it, friends, and it's fleeting like a shadow. 5
- 10:00And whoso shall receive one such little child in my name,
- 10:04receives me. We need to have the faith of
- 10:07little children. Yes, this is likened to small
- 10:11children, but it is also likened to the believer who has humility
- 10:17and is humble and thinks of others is better than
- 10:20themselves. 6 But whoso shall offend one of these little ones
- 10:26which believe in me, it would be better for him that a millstone
- 10:30were hung about his neck, and that he was drowned in the
- 10:33depths of the sea. What a statement from Jesus
- 10:38Christ Himself. He is saying to the world at
- 10:44large that even if you offend one of these little ones, it
- 10:49would be better than if you were never born.
- 10:51For those who have been born and who died in their offenses and
- 10:57they never received the Lord Jesus Christ as their Savior, it
- 11:03would be better for them if they had never been born, because
- 11:07they're going to a place where they will be tormented.
- 11:11And the worm never dies, and it is a death a billion times over,
- 11:15and you could never die. 7 Woe unto the world because of
- 11:26offenses, for it must needs be that offenses come.
- 11:30Well, woe to the man by whom the offense comes.
- 11:33Here we can understand that all of these things must happen, but
- 11:37woe to the one whom they come through.
- 11:39We can see that it's all adding up.
- 11:42We can see that everything is moving according to the plan,
- 11:45but it doesn't excuse the ones that are bringing about all of
- 11:50the offenses that are coming into the world.
- 11:52The offenses of false religion, the offenses of pornography, the
- 11:56offenses of of the drugs, the offenses of all of the open
- 12:05promiscuity friends, you can see it all around us.
- 12:09We can see that whenever people lie and push their weight
- 12:13around, we can see they get promoted.
- 12:15We can see the greed. We can see how everything
- 12:20rewards those that are sinful in this lifetime.
- 12:24And Jesus said that it would be this way.
- 12:26But woe to the one whom creates all these systems, Friends,
- 12:32creates all of the applications that you put on your phone that
- 12:36lead you down into the depths of hell.
- 12:38Woe to them. They must happen.
- 12:41But woe to the ones who created it.
- 12:44God is using it for prophecy, but He does not excuse the ones
- 12:50who thought about it and brought it into existence.
- 12:57Therefore, if your hand or your foot offends you, cut them off
- 13:01and cast them from you. Is better for you to enter into
- 13:05life halted or maimed, rather than having two hands and two
- 13:09feet and be cast into everlasting fire.
- 13:13Verse 9 And if your eye offends you, pluck it out and cast it
- 13:16from you, For it is better for you to enter into life with one
- 13:20eye, rather than having two eyes and be cast into Hellfire. 10
- 13:26Take that you despise not one of these little ones, for I say
- 13:30unto you, that in heaven their angels do always behold the face
- 13:36of my Father, which is in heaven.
- 13:38You can see what the the writer of Hebrews tells us when he says
- 13:43that angels are ministering spirits sent to protect those
- 13:48that will inherit eternal life. And you can see it right here.
- 13:52And Jesus is not telling us to actually cut our hand off.
- 13:56Jesus is not telling us to actually pluck our eyes out.
- 14:00And by the way, this is the second time that Jesus has
- 14:03referenced this just in Matthew. And you can see that he means
- 14:07what he says, that it is far better for us us to suffer now,
- 14:12but to be welcomed into eternity than for us to have all of our
- 14:17pleasantries now, but to be cast into hell forever, hell fire
- 14:22forever and ever and ever and ever and ever.
- 14:27It is like being burned and charred and wanting to die, but
- 14:33you can't. 11 For the Son of Man has come to save that which was
- 14:41lost. So here we can see that people
- 14:46that are healthy do not need the doctor, but it is the sick who
- 14:50need the doctor. He came to seek and to save
- 14:53those that are lost. If you think that you don't need
- 14:57God, if you think that you're holier than thou, if you think
- 15:01that you're perfect and you don't need a savior, there is no
- 15:05more saving for you. It is only Jesus and Jesus and
- 15:09Jesus that's going to get us into the fold, friends.
- 15:12And he says he came to seek and to save the lost.
- 15:17We need to know that we're lost, friends, before we cry out for
- 15:22help. 12 How do you think if a man have 100 sheep, and one of
- 15:28them is gone astray, does he not leave the 99 And he goes into
- 15:33the mountains, and he seeks that which is gone astray?
- 15:3713 And if it if so be that he finds it, truly, I say unto you
- 15:43that he rejoices more of that sheep than of the 99 that did
- 15:47not go astray. 14 Even so, it is not with the will of your
- 15:52Father, which is in heaven, that one of these little ones should
- 15:55perish. We can see that there's more
- 15:57rejoicing in heaven over the one Sinner who sees his need for
- 16:01repentance than for the 99 who are sitting on their blessed
- 16:05assurance and who think that their church attendance is going
- 16:08to get them into heaven. Friends, we need to know that
- 16:11we're lost. We need to we need to cry out to
- 16:16Jesus and we need to reach out our hands and grab a hold of His
- 16:20and let Him pull us up out of the muck and the mire.
- 16:23We do not need to think that we are so good and we have been
- 16:27perfected and that we have arrived somehow.
- 16:30If you have breath in your lungs, you have need for the
- 16:33Savior. Friends cry out to Him. 15
- 16:41Moreover, if your brother shall trespass against you, go and
- 16:45tell him his fault between you and him alone.
- 16:49If he shall hear you, you have gained your brother. 16 But if
- 16:53he will not hear you, then take with you one or two more, that
- 16:56in the mouth of two or three witnesses every word may be
- 16:59established. 17 And if he shall neglect to hear them, tell it
- 17:03unto the church. But if he neglect to hear the
- 17:05church, let him be unto you as a heathen man and as a publican.
- 17:1018 Truly I say unto you, Whatever you shall bind on earth
- 17:14shall be bound in heaven, and whatsoever you shall loose on
- 17:17earth shall be loosed in heaven. 19 And again I say unto you,
- 17:21that if 2 of you shall agree on earth, as touching anything,
- 17:26that shall, that they shall ask, it shall be done for them of my
- 17:30father which is in heaven. This is discipline in the future
- 17:33church to come. This is where Paul would have
- 17:37went, and whenever he was writing to Timothy and telling
- 17:40him how the church should look in all of the ways that the
- 17:43church should be structured, it was bringing out verses 15
- 17:48through 19. And you can see this binding and
- 17:51losing, and you can see when we're praying the will of the
- 17:54Father that these things are happening around us.
- 17:57When you're truly in touch with the Lord God Almighty, you will
- 18:01hear His heart, and those will become your prayers, and that's
- 18:04when you get to see things truly happen all around you. 20 For
- 18:09where two or three are gathered together in my name, there I am
- 18:15in the midst of them. This is the simplest form of the
- 18:18local church. And you can see that Jesus's
- 18:21heart was for the future church that he had established with
- 18:25Peter all the way back there and promised that the gates of hell
- 18:28would never prevail against it. And this is where you can see
- 18:32the structure of the church, where two or three are gathered
- 18:36together. This is the most simple form of
- 18:39the uppercase C church friends, the called out ones.
- 18:44It's not about numbers, friends. Jesus turned the whole world
- 18:48upside down with 12 men. 21 And then came Peter to him and said,
- 18:54Lord, how often shall my brother sin against me, and I forgive
- 18:58him? Till 7 times.
- 19:01Peter thought that he was so super spiritual.
- 19:04He thought that he was superseding with all the
- 19:07Pharisees and all the Sadducees and all the religious people of
- 19:11the time. They were saying up to three
- 19:13times. And here Peter thinks 7 times is
- 19:17very. Is Peter is sitting here
- 19:24thinking that the seven times would be abundant and Jesus is
- 19:31going to knock him down a peg and he's going to get him to
- 19:35understand the heart of God here, friends 22 Jesus said unto
- 19:41him, I say not unto you until 7 times, but until 70 * 7.
- 19:51Wow, what a thought. This is not a numerical number.
- 19:58This is unlimited. If there's breath in your lungs,
- 20:02then God's not done with you. When we take our final breath,
- 20:08there is no second chances. But if you woke up today and you
- 20:15have breath in your lungs. Then you have another chance,
- 20:19friends, and aren't you glad that God is a God of unlimited
- 20:23chances, as long as there's breath in our lungs?
- 20:2823 Therefore is the Kingdom of heaven likened unto a certain
- 20:32king, which would take account of his servants. 24 And when he
- 20:36had begun to reckon, one was brought unto him, which owed him
- 20:4010,000 talents. This would be modern day a
- 20:44billion dollars. Friends, he owed his master a
- 20:50billion dollars. In our financial world, just
- 20:54imagine this lock in and pay attention to what Jesus is
- 20:58trying to teach us and what he was telling Peter who thought
- 21:03that it was sufficient for seven times.
- 21:06And here Jesus is going to show Peter the heart of God towards
- 21:11us. He owed him a billion dollars,
- 21:1725 But for as much as he had not to pay, his Lord commanded him
- 21:24to be sold, and his wife and his children and all that he had,
- 21:28and payment to be made. This was a payment that could
- 21:32never be paid back. How he was able to rack up that
- 21:37much debt is beyond understanding.
- 21:40Perhaps the King thought that he had the ability to be able to
- 21:46make that much and more with whatever venture he had set out
- 21:51on and somehow something had went awry and he was not able to
- 21:55pay it back. And the king here is wanting his
- 21:58billion dollar investment back, his return on investments.
- 22:03Let's see what he has to say. He's throwing his wife and his
- 22:06kids and him into prison and he's going to put him into the
- 22:11indentured servant. He's going to put him into the
- 22:14work camp. He's going to get him to work
- 22:16off his debt that he could never repay.
- 22:20And this is what it looks like. Our sin was something we could
- 22:23never pay back. There was something within our
- 22:27sin nature that we could never ever make right.
- 22:30We could never atone for our own sins.
- 22:33We could never work our way into heaven, friends.
- 22:36And that is what Jesus is showing. 26 And the servant
- 22:41therefore fell face down, and he worshipped him, saying, Lord,
- 22:49have patience with me, and I will pay you all. 27 Then the
- 22:56Lord of that servant was moved with compassion and loosed him,
- 23:01and forgave him the debt. This is what it looks like when
- 23:04we come to Jesus. This is what it looks like when
- 23:06we admit that we're a Sinner. This is what it looks like when
- 23:09we admit that we need a savior and we can never save ourselves
- 23:14from our own sinful behavior and nature.
- 23:20And Jesus is moved with compassion, and he says, I
- 23:23forgive you, forgive you, but go and sin no more. 28 But the same
- 23:30servant went out, and he found one of his fellow servants,
- 23:33which owed him 100 pence, And he laid hands on him, and took him
- 23:38by the throat, saying, Pay me what you owe.
- 23:42So here is this wicked servant who has received this
- 23:47forgiveness of a billion dollars and here this guy owes him
- 23:51around about $10,000 an hour time and he's saying pay me back
- 23:57the 10,000 that you owe and he's throttling his throat here
- 24:01friends 29 And his fellow servant fell down at his feet
- 24:07and begged him saying have patience with me and I will pay
- 24:10it all. This is the same response that
- 24:13this wicked servant had towards the king that he had towards his
- 24:17debtor. And he had so much compassion
- 24:21upon him that he forgave a billion dollar debt, didn't even
- 24:24make him come up with some kind of payment plan.
- 24:27He just forgave him the billion dollar debt.
- 24:30And that's what God does for us. And then what do we do?
- 24:33We turn around and find somebody who has offended us, find
- 24:37somebody who has wronged us and we've refused to forgive them of
- 24:42their little $10,000 debt. And it's not about the money,
- 24:46friends. It's the principle behind what
- 24:48Jesus is trying to show us, that there is nothing that man could
- 24:53ever do to you, friend, that would even equate to the amount
- 24:58that you owed God. And for what is to come of you
- 25:02either in heaven or in hell. For those of us who have placed
- 25:06our faith in the Lord Jesus Christ, it is there is no
- 25:10comparison to what is to come. But for those who refuse him,
- 25:15there is no comparison here to what is to come.
- 25:18Friends. And we would do well to keep
- 25:20these things in our minds. 30 And he would not.
- 25:25And he went and cast him into prison until he should pay the
- 25:28debt. The prison is the prison that he
- 25:32is formed around his own self of unforgiveness.
- 25:36You, believer, have been forgiven of all of your sins,
- 25:40but when you have unforgiveness in your heart, it is a prison
- 25:44wrapped around you. 31 So when his fellow servants saw what was
- 25:50done, they were very sorry and came and told unto their Lord
- 25:54all that was done. So it wasn't even the person
- 25:59that was thrown into the prison. It wasn't even the person who
- 26:02was forgiven of the billion dollar debt.
- 26:05It was those that were looking upon the situation that felt
- 26:08sorry and went and told the Lord.
- 26:11And this is what happens whenever people that were
- 26:14supposed to be witnesses to when they see that your walk with the
- 26:19Lord, you are stumbling. It is a stumbling block to them
- 26:23friends. 32 Then his Lord after that he had called him, and he
- 26:30said unto him, Oh, you wicked servant, I forgave you all that
- 26:34debt because you desired me. 33 Should not you also have
- 26:39compassion on your fellow servant, even as I had pity on
- 26:43you? 34 And his Lord was wroth, and
- 26:46delivered him to the tormentors, until he should pay all that was
- 26:51due unto him. This is the prison that the
- 26:56unforgiving form around themselves.
- 27:00It is torment here on this earth.
- 27:02And if they are to die without receiving the forgiveness of the
- 27:07Lord Jesus Christ through the blood of the sacrifice, and if
- 27:11they do not put on that blood and enter into the throne room
- 27:19of God, covered by the blood of Jesus, the forgiveness that
- 27:22makes them white as snow, they will be cast into the lake of
- 27:27fire. They will be cast into hell
- 27:29where there is the torment. Friends, what a spin for old
- 27:36Peter when he just thought 7 times would be enough.
- 27:42Hear. Jesus accurately shows Peter and
- 27:45He shows us what it looks like when God Forgives us.
- 27:49It's not a small thing friends. And so when you live in light of
- 27:53that, it's easy to forgive those who wronged you.
- 27:58It's easy to have joy in your heart, even though there are
- 28:01those who got over on you. Will end on 35.
- 28:12So likewise shall my heavenly Father do also unto you, if you
- 28:18from your hearts forgive not everyone, His brother, their
- 28:23trespasses. It's in the model prayer.
- 28:27It's in the Lord's Prayer. Forgive us our trespasses as we
- 28:33forgive those who trespass against us.
- 28:36How can you expect to receive forgiveness when you refuse to
- 28:41forgive those that have wronged you and hurt you?
- 28:51What a beautiful chapter this has been.
- 28:55What a beautiful journey this has been.
- 28:59Somehow this old bus of ours has sprouted wings and it's gone up
- 29:05into the clouds here, friends. So school buses flying high.
- 29:13I hope you've been blessed by this chapter here and Matthew.
- 29:17I know I sure have. I love you.
- 29:23I'm praying for you. We'll see you back here
- 29:27tomorrow. God bless you.
