- 0:16distinctions, possibilities, new ways of thinking, and just bring
- 0:20some joy into the world. So welcome to the Coop and let's
- 0:23start your day off in a fantastic way.
- 0:27Hey everybody, good morning from the Chicken Coop.
- 0:30We are talking today about how hard it is to understand in our
- 0:36businesses how emotions show up in business.
- 0:40Now this may be something that we don't like to talk about
- 0:43because nobody wants to admit that we have to deal with
- 0:45emotions in our business. But let me tell you my friends,
- 0:49it is without a question something that is real and it
- 0:53happens all the time. And it doesn't matter if your
- 0:55business is teeny tiny and you have a, you know, a food cart or
- 1:00you are dealing in a billion dollar business, emotions show
- 1:05up everywhere. I coach many people at many
- 1:09different levels, entrepreneurs, you know, people all the way up
- 1:14to traitors, you know, you name it, vast different types of
- 1:19people. And the one thing I can assure
- 1:22you that is across the board is this challenge of dealing with
- 1:26emotions. And there are a lot of people in
- 1:29leadership positions that do not want to face the fact that
- 1:34emotion is something you must deal with.
- 1:38And they, they, they think, oh, well, there's no place for it in
- 1:42this business. There's no place for it here.
- 1:44There's no place for it in the boardroom.
- 1:46OK, You can absolutely say that's an ideal thing to, to put
- 1:50together and say there's no place for it.
- 1:52But that does not mean that it's not present.
- 1:55That does not mean that you shouldn't take care of it.
- 2:00It's there and it shows up. And if you ignore it, my
- 2:05friends, if you ignore what's going on, it will come and bite
- 2:10you directly in the ass. And I'm just being very frank
- 2:12and saying it that way because it's true.
- 2:15Too many times we believe things will work itself out or let them
- 2:20deal with it on their own. And that's not how it works with
- 2:24human beings. Every decision that we make is
- 2:28predicated on emotion. And that is the rooster making
- 2:31that weird noise. And I have no idea what he is
- 2:33trying to warn everybody about. Or that strange little message
- 2:37coming from Rufus right now. Definitely weird.
- 2:40And he's staring here and staring at me.
- 2:43So back to this you, you can't trust one that the people around
- 2:50you are going to tell you the truth, they're going to tell you
- 2:53the truth. They want you to know.
- 2:55That is a fact. When I go into companies and I
- 2:58have this program that Ioffer for people where I come in and I
- 3:02like embed myself with my team in your company for a number of
- 3:06days. And we dissect the emotional
- 3:09state of affairs for your teams. And we tell you, OK, here's
- 3:15where they are, here's what's the challenges.
- 3:17We don't report what people specifically are saying.
- 3:19We don't tattle on people, but we say is, you know, 20% of your
- 3:22people are feeling this, 30% of your people are feeling this.
- 3:25And we give them an idea of where people are emotionally
- 3:30because they need to know, they need to understand.
- 3:33And nine times out of 10, they are completely unaware of what
- 3:38is really going on. And when people have the
- 3:40anonymity to come in and know, hey, this is confidential.
- 3:43We're not going to say what you said.
- 3:45We're just going to report trends and we're going to give
- 3:47them information. And then we create a plan that
- 3:49helps them understand how to move people emotionally so you
- 3:53can get the tasks done. Now, I developed doing this
- 3:57probably, I don't know, 10 years ago, maybe a little bit longer.
- 4:01And I will tell you, every single time I do it, I am always
- 4:05blown away by how much the companies don't know, how much
- 4:09the executives don't know, how much the team leaders don't
- 4:12know. And the ones that do know things
- 4:15stick their head in the sand pretending they're ostriches and
- 4:19it'll work itself out. My friends, it never works
- 4:22itself out. You must address it.
- 4:26There are big pink elephants in the middle of the room and
- 4:29people pretend they're not even there.
- 4:32And it doesn't do you any good and it costs you time, it costs
- 4:35you money, it costs you people. Good people will walk away from
- 4:40you at some point because they are fed up with it.
- 4:43So the reason we are talking about this today is if you are
- 4:47in business, if you are building a business, if you are working
- 4:50with people, if you are subcontracting with people, if
- 4:53you are have humans around you, you will encounter the situation
- 4:58and you must be emotionally aware of what's happening in
- 5:03order to navigate it. And you must understand the
- 5:06leader that you need to be in order to do that must take
- 5:11account of the emotions, because you can give them the best
- 5:14training programs, you can give them the best tools.
- 5:18But if they are emotionally I'll equipped to do the job,
- 5:22everything won't work. It doesn't matter how many times
- 5:26you teach them a sales script. It doesn't matter how many times
- 5:28you tell them to say it the right way.
- 5:30If they don't want to make the calls because they feel like
- 5:33they're stupid, they're still not going to get you what your
- 5:35outcome is. So nothing is more important
- 5:39than dealing with the emotions that are in front of you.
- 5:41Nothing. That's that's the bottom line.
- 5:44And quite honestly, it's the part that people overlook the
- 5:47most. So really take an inventory of
- 5:49that if this is something that is affecting your life.
- 5:53All right, my friends, I hope you have a blessed day and I
- 5:56will see you tomorrow. Bye.
