- Lucas: Welcome back to Learn Swahili with Fexingo. I'm Lucas. Luna: And I'm Luna. Hey, Lucas, last time we did numbers from one to ten. Are we doing more numbers today? Lucas: Sort of. Today we're learning ordinal numbers — first, second, third, up to tenth. Luna: Oh, like the order of things. That's useful. I remember kwanza from somewhere. Lucas: Exactly. Kwanza means 'first'. Let's start with that. Repeat after me: kwanza. Luna: Kwanza. Lucas: Good. Now 'second' is pili. Pili. Luna: Pili. Lucas: Third is tatu — same as the number three. Tatu. Luna: Tatu. Lucas: Fourth is nne. Nne. Luna: Nne. Lucas: Fifth is tano. Tano. Luna: Tano. Lucas: Sixth is sita. Sita. Luna: Sita. Lucas: Seventh is saba. Saba. Luna: Saba. Lucas: Eighth is nane. Nane. Luna: Nane. Lucas: Ninth is tisa. Tisa. Luna: Tisa. Lucas: And tenth is kumi. Kumi. Luna: Kumi. So first to tenth: kwanza, pili, tatu, nne, tano, sita, saba, nane, tisa, kumi. Lucas: You've got it. Now let's use them in a sentence. Imagine you're talking about floors in a building. 'First floor' is ghorofa ya kwanza. Luna: Ghorofa ya kwanza. Lucas: Second floor — ghorofa ya pili. Luna: Ghorofa ya pili. Lucas: Third floor — ghorofa ya tatu. Luna: Ghorofa ya tatu. That's easy because the numbers are the same. Lucas: Right. Now let's try a little test. I'll say a number, you give me the ordinal. Number one? Luna: Kwanza. Lucas: Number two? Luna: Pili. Lucas: Number five? Luna: Tano. Lucas: Number ten? Luna: Kumi. Lucas: Perfect. Now let's put them in a real context. Imagine you're at a race and someone asks, 'Who came first?' You'd say, 'Ali ni wa kwanza.' — Ali is first. Luna: Ali ni wa kwanza. Lucas: Who came second? 'Juma ni wa pili.' — Juma is second. Luna: Juma ni wa pili. Lucas: Who came third? 'Amina ni wa tatu.' — Amina is third. Luna: Amina ni wa tatu. Lucas: Great job. Now let's do a quick review. I'll say the ordinal in English, you say it in Swahili. First. Luna: Kwanza. Lucas: Fourth. Luna: Nne. Lucas: Seventh. Luna: Saba. Lucas: Tenth. Luna: Kumi. Lucas: Excellent.
