- 0:02SPEAKER_00: Hey there.
- 0:03SPEAKER_00: This is Mark, and this is Fierce Encouragement.
- 0:06SPEAKER_00: I want to thank you for tuning in.
- 0:09SPEAKER_00: Just a quick overview.
- 0:10SPEAKER_00: I created this podcast to help people that have that sour self-talk, that feel doubt and fear, and maybe just have a hard time encouraging themselves.
- 0:22SPEAKER_00: I think the idea of fierce encouragement isn't something about ego or being pompous.
- 0:29SPEAKER_00: Instead, more often than not, it helps us show up in those tough moments with families and friends and work.
- 0:36SPEAKER_00: So practice some of the fierce encouragement techniques.
- 0:40SPEAKER_00: And I just want to thank you for sharing some time with me.
- 0:46SPEAKER_00: Today I just wanted to make this one nice and punchy and quick.
- 0:50SPEAKER_00: And it really kind of comes off the idea that I've heard again and again this past few weeks.
- 0:57SPEAKER_00: I don't have time.
- 1:00SPEAKER_00: I heard this from a couple leaders this week as we were going through some coaching sessions one-on-one.
- 1:07SPEAKER_00: And it's basically that.
- 1:10SPEAKER_00: I don't have time for this.
- 1:12SPEAKER_00: I'm too busy.
- 1:14SPEAKER_00: My team needs me.
- 1:15SPEAKER_00: Those projects are due.
- 1:17SPEAKER_00: There is no room on my calendar.
- 1:20SPEAKER_00: And that's it.
- 1:22SPEAKER_00: And maybe I'll prompt you.
- 1:24SPEAKER_00: How often have you said this to yourself?
- 1:28SPEAKER_00: How often have you used this as an excuse?
- 1:31SPEAKER_00: And I I'll highlight that.
- 1:33SPEAKER_00: That is an excuse.
- 1:35SPEAKER_00: How are you saying that?
- 1:37SPEAKER_00: Where are you saying it?
- 1:40SPEAKER_00: And maybe underneath it all, why?
- 1:45SPEAKER_00: I think there's a new way we can look at this.
- 1:49SPEAKER_00: And it's a helpful way to look at it.
- 1:52SPEAKER_00: Because busyness is just a symptom.
- 1:57SPEAKER_00: It's not the obstacle.
- 2:00SPEAKER_00: Busyness isn't holding us to some standard.
- 2:05SPEAKER_00: And busyness is not good business practice.
- 2:12SPEAKER_00: I've heard so many great coaches and leaders talk about how we can take things personally, especially with projects, right?
- 2:22SPEAKER_00: Or whether it's a habit we want to change.
- 2:25SPEAKER_00: And they'll say this, they'll say, Well, you know, something's wrong with me.
- 2:29SPEAKER_00: Why can't I do this?
- 2:31SPEAKER_00: Why can't my team do this?
- 2:34SPEAKER_00: But the fact is, it's not a personal flaw or a team flaw, it's a systems problem, a design problem, a leadership problem.
- 2:48SPEAKER_00: And before you're too quick to point at the leaders and blame them, leadership is something that comes from within, too.
- 2:57SPEAKER_00: How are we leading ourselves?
- 3:01SPEAKER_00: How are we noticing those patterns and tendencies underneath all of it?
- 3:08SPEAKER_00: And asking ourselves, how am I creating and contributing to the chaos?
- 3:15SPEAKER_00: How am I trying to outrun myself and my bad mindset, my bad habits?
- 3:22SPEAKER_00: And maybe how am I hating myself or chastising myself or avoiding those honest problems that I have?
- 3:33SPEAKER_00: And again, my hands up.
- 3:36SPEAKER_00: I'm not forgiven from this either.
- 3:40SPEAKER_00: I've struggled mightily with avoidance and being overactive.
- 3:46SPEAKER_00: It's really easy for me to avoid my financials, my creative building, even creating things like this, and then be busy on low-value work.
- 4:01SPEAKER_00: One of my good friends often shares this in her coaching sessions and the programs I've gone through.
- 4:09SPEAKER_00: But, and I believe it comes from Dan Hardy.
- 4:14SPEAKER_00: There's always a clear path to lesser goals.
- 4:20SPEAKER_00: There's always a clear path to lesser goals.
- 4:24SPEAKER_00: And I'm sorry, that's not Dan Hardy, Benjamin Hardy.
- 4:30SPEAKER_00: We can use those clear goals to avoid the things that scare the hell out of us.
- 4:39SPEAKER_00: Especially when we use a sense of busyness to mask what's really going on.
- 4:46SPEAKER_00: We even get so busy that we're scared to say the real part out loud, too.
- 4:55SPEAKER_00: So I wanted to teach something here.
- 4:58SPEAKER_00: It's something I come back to again and again in my one-on-one sessions with my clients and kind of going back to tuning up the nervous system.
- 5:09SPEAKER_00: And I think there's something honest here.
- 5:11SPEAKER_00: There's a balance.
- 5:12SPEAKER_00: It is good to be busy.
- 5:13SPEAKER_00: It is good to have hard problems.
- 5:15SPEAKER_00: It is important to attack the goals for the company and the outcomes that you want to affect.
- 5:22SPEAKER_00: I'm not saying to go to a cave in the Himalayas and give up.
- 5:29SPEAKER_00: But I am saying that we need to teach or train our nervous system and especially allow our teams that grace to slow down in order to speed up.
- 5:45SPEAKER_00: So I wanted to teach something here live and not have a filter or gate.
- 5:58SPEAKER_00: The first thing I want you to do is calm the body down, relax the eyes down, order to close them, and take a long, slow, deep breath into the belly and let it out nice and slow.
- 6:13SPEAKER_00: And remind yourself, you are the instrument.
- 6:18SPEAKER_00: We study the body and we check in with the mind with that first breath.
- 6:25SPEAKER_00: With the next breath, we want to see what's going on in our mind, what's running on autopilot.
- 6:33SPEAKER_00: Name the thing that's up coming up for you, that feeling tone in the mind, the mask that you're wearing.
- 6:38SPEAKER_00: What are you protecting?
- 6:43SPEAKER_00: We can't put down a mask we don't know we're wearing.
- 6:48SPEAKER_00: And with the last breath, we lead from awareness.
- 6:53SPEAKER_00: We practice a calm, warm, confident body, mind, and presence.
- 7:03SPEAKER_00: Our awareness determines how much we can turn on our ability to help and serve and connect with others.
- 7:12SPEAKER_00: And really, that's the practice.
- 7:15SPEAKER_00: It's called the three breath pause.
- 7:18SPEAKER_00: And that's the step-by-step way to use it in the moment.
- 7:22SPEAKER_00: It takes less than one minute and it changes your whole day.
- 7:28SPEAKER_00: I want to give that to you.
- 7:30SPEAKER_00: And I want you to feel that and put that into play at work and at home.
- 7:35SPEAKER_00: But let it stand on its own.
- 7:38SPEAKER_00: So often we get committed to having a big meditation practice or doing an hour of yoga or doing that 15, 20 minutes of breath work.
- 7:50SPEAKER_00: And all of that's good.
- 7:52SPEAKER_00: But where can we practice the three-breath pause that tunes the instrument, that exposes the ego, and lets us lead from awareness and presence?
- 8:08SPEAKER_00: I hear it again and again in the one-on-one conversations I have with people.
- 8:14SPEAKER_00: And I'm lucky enough to have been practicing this for over 15 years with my meditation teacher and a great group of meditators and learning these deeper breath work practices and presence practices from an esoteric side.
- 8:34SPEAKER_00: I'm truly blessed.
- 8:36SPEAKER_00: But I also want to share with you, it doesn't take tons of time.
- 8:40SPEAKER_00: You don't have to wait to give yourself the gift of a three-breath pause.
- 8:47SPEAKER_00: So take this, use it.
- 8:50SPEAKER_00: Don't pretend that it's something small.
- 8:52SPEAKER_00: Let it stand by itself in your day and change the way you show up for your workers, your team, your family and friends.
- 9:02SPEAKER_00: Because this tool isn't just a practice.
- 9:05SPEAKER_00: This is something that's connected to a bigger thing that I've created called the Awareness Lab.
- 9:12SPEAKER_00: And it's real.
- 9:15SPEAKER_00: And it really isn't about adding another framework or structure or another book or another course.
- 9:22SPEAKER_00: It's helping you practice with presence.
- 9:25SPEAKER_00: And it actually hands time back in your day.
- 9:31SPEAKER_00: So when leaders or team members or even moms and dads or anyone says, I don't have time for this.
- 9:41SPEAKER_00: I want to tell them directly, what if it hands time back to you?
- 9:47SPEAKER_00: What if instead of needing clarity, it encourages you encourages your mind to be clear in that moment?
- 9:56SPEAKER_00: What if it gives you back time?
- 10:00SPEAKER_00: Thank you for listening in.
- 10:01SPEAKER_00: I'm going to cut this one nice and short and punchy.
- 10:04SPEAKER_00: I'd love to hear how it lands with you.
- 10:07SPEAKER_00: And of course, if you're interested in checking in with what the awareness lab is, depending on what you're listening when you're listening to this, well, it's happening soon.
- 10:17SPEAKER_00: Check out the link in the show notes.
- 10:20SPEAKER_00: The doors close soon, and I'm keeping it small intentionally.
- 10:24SPEAKER_00: I want people to be connected and have that authentic growth and feel like it's a place where they can practice awareness and practice exposing that ego and really tuning in to that instrument, which is our nervous system.
- 10:40SPEAKER_00: Otherwise, please practice that three-breath pause.
- 10:44SPEAKER_00: Give that as a gift to yourself, to your family and your team.
- 10:47SPEAKER_00: And I'm really thankful that you took the time to listen into the awareness lab, what I'm sharing.
- 10:53SPEAKER_00: And of course, tuning in to Fierce Encouragement.
- 10:57SPEAKER_00: Much love to you and yours.
- 10:59SPEAKER_00: Have a great day, a great evening, wherever you're at.
- 11:02SPEAKER_00: And we'll catch you next time on Fierce Encouragement.
- 11:04SPEAKER_00: Bye bye.
