Transcript
- 0:00[SPEAKER_00]: Jacksonville Jaguar fans, welcome and to do ball daily, presented by gingag.com and fueled by brass tax coffee right now.
- 0:07[SPEAKER_00]: It's Wednesday, October 7th.
- 0:09[SPEAKER_00]: I am your host, Jordan Delugo out here on the
- 0:13[SPEAKER_00]: North Atlantic head and towards Sydney in Canada, not Australia, obviously.
- 0:20[SPEAKER_00]: Having a good time, but did want to talk about taking a look around the NFL power rankings landscape this week.
- 0:29[SPEAKER_00]: Things have shifted dramatically, and I think the jackwares are starting to be viewed by folks around the league, media members, analysts, etc.
- 0:43[SPEAKER_00]: And that's, you know, I've had the Jaguars in the top five all summer training camp, preseason, into the season, been very close to the situation, obviously.
- 0:56[SPEAKER_00]: And I think that the Jaguars are starting to show people and teams.
- 1:01[SPEAKER_00]: They're not just an offensive juggernaut.
- 1:04[SPEAKER_00]: They're not just a Liam Cohen offense in terms of like,
- 1:10[SPEAKER_00]: that's not all they have to bring to the table.
- 1:12[SPEAKER_00]: Anthony Camponele is a great defense of coordinator.
- 1:16[SPEAKER_00]: Some of the question marks that people have had about the team losing Devon Lloyd, losing Travis ETN.
- 1:22[SPEAKER_00]: It looks like instead of those being potential issues, I mean the guys that are playing in their stead are arguably playing even better than what you saw from the guys that left in
- 1:35[SPEAKER_00]: And so, we're going to dive into where the Jaguars are at, around the web, we're going to dive into statistically what they're doing really well.
- 1:45[SPEAKER_00]: And we're going to talk about some things that I still think need to improve.
- 1:48[SPEAKER_00]: So I'm excited to get into it.
- 1:50[SPEAKER_00]: Really appreciate y'all being here.
- 1:51[SPEAKER_00]: If you enjoy the content, please like and subscribe.
- 1:53[SPEAKER_00]: You can also hit that high button.
- 1:55[SPEAKER_00]: So,
- 1:56[SPEAKER_00]: I looked at, and these are the five ones I usually look at for power rankings.
- 2:00[SPEAKER_00]: I do my own AFC power rankings every week.
- 2:03[SPEAKER_00]: I have the Jaguars at two behind the Chiefs.
- 2:05[SPEAKER_00]: Anytime you have a Patrick Mahomes plan that well with a Chiefs Magnolo defense that has a lot of the pieces in place to be very, very good, hard to not rank the Chiefs at one.
- 2:19[SPEAKER_00]: But I do have the Jaguars at two, but looking around the web at these NFL powerings for the full league, the Jaguars
- 2:29[SPEAKER_00]: between Sports Illustrated NFL.com, ESPN, the athletic and Yahoo, their average rank is 4.6.
- 2:39[SPEAKER_00]: You have them at 2 on SI, I think 6 at NFL.com, 5 at ESPN, 5 at the athletic, and 4 on Yahoo.
- 2:48[SPEAKER_00]: So,
- 2:50[SPEAKER_00]: The average ranking is 4.6, let's say top 5 ranking, not in the AFC now, in the NFL at 3 and 1, the Jaguars obviously are in second place in the AFC right now, behind only the Kansas City Chiefs who are the only undefeated team in the AFC, but they've been doing what they've been doing, you know, 3 and 1 record.
- 3:18[SPEAKER_00]: Against teams that have been really good against other teams, right?
- 3:24[SPEAKER_00]: The Jaguars beat the Browns who are 3 and 1.
- 3:28[SPEAKER_00]: 3 and 0 against teams not named the Jaguars, right?
- 3:33[SPEAKER_00]: The Jaguars beat the Broncos who are 2 and 2.
- 3:38[SPEAKER_00]: The Patriots who are 2 and 2.
- 3:41[SPEAKER_00]: The Bengals who are 2 and 2.
- 3:42[SPEAKER_00]: I mean, all of these teams when they're not playing the Jaguars are playing winning football.
- 3:49[SPEAKER_00]: All these teams outside of the Broncos have a better record than the one team the Jaguar's lost to in the Broncos is the one team that actually doesn't have a winning record against other teams in the Jaguars.
- 4:09[SPEAKER_00]: The Broncos lost the chiefs, beat the Rams, lost to the 49ers.
- 4:13[SPEAKER_00]: They've had a gauntlet to start the season.
- 4:15[SPEAKER_00]: Jack Horst, chiefs, Rams 49ers, that's pretty incredible.
- 4:19[SPEAKER_00]: The Broncos have.
- 4:19[SPEAKER_00]: So I still think that they're a very good football team.
- 4:22[SPEAKER_00]: But just like the combined records of these teams that the Jaguars have beaten, I haven't even put this together yet.
- 4:30[SPEAKER_00]: But the Browns are three and one.
- 4:37[SPEAKER_00]: Patriots 2 and 2.
- 4:39[SPEAKER_00]: So what's that?
- 4:40[SPEAKER_00]: 5 and 3.
- 4:41[SPEAKER_00]: The Bengals 2 and 2.
- 4:45[SPEAKER_00]: That's 7 and 5.
- 4:51[SPEAKER_00]: The Patriots also.
- 4:54[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah.
- 4:55[SPEAKER_00]: Patriots 2 and 2.
- 4:56[SPEAKER_00]: Browns 3 and 1.
- 5:03[SPEAKER_00]: Bengals 2 and 2, and Broncos 2, I mean, these are good football teams it looks like.
- 5:08[SPEAKER_00]: I still have my questions about the Broncos, or excuse me, about the Browns, but these are good football teams.
- 5:18[SPEAKER_00]: from a record standpoint, from a just looking at the talent, the coaching, the construction of these teams.
- 5:24[SPEAKER_00]: The Jaguars haven't done this over the first four weeks against teams that are struggling against the rest of the league.
- 5:32[SPEAKER_00]: They've done this against really good teams.
- 5:34[SPEAKER_00]: They've gotten a 3-in-1.
- 5:35[SPEAKER_00]: Offensively, they're 12th-in points per game.
- 5:39[SPEAKER_00]: They could be higher, had they not called off the dogs, in two of their four games so far.
- 5:45[SPEAKER_00]: The fourth quarter, they basically completely called off the dogs against the Patriots and against the Browns.
- 5:54[SPEAKER_00]: So you could have more points here.
- 5:56[SPEAKER_00]: They're tinted and passing touchdowns.
- 5:58[SPEAKER_00]: They're tied for eighth with the least interceptions thrown.
- 6:03[SPEAKER_00]: So you're top 10 in the passing touchdown department.
- 6:07[SPEAKER_00]: You're one of the best teams in terms of not throwing interceptions.
- 6:10[SPEAKER_00]: You've allowed 13 sacs in past protections,
- 6:16[SPEAKER_00]: or excuse me, you've allowed the 13th most sex, right?
- 6:21[SPEAKER_00]: Excuse me, 13th few of sex, 13th in yards per carry, 11th in rushing yards per game.
- 6:28[SPEAKER_00]: When you talk about facial tuton alone, tuton is third in yards after contact per attempt, and third in Miss Tackle's forced, he is playing excellent football.
- 6:40[SPEAKER_00]: The Jaguar's passing attack,
- 6:42[SPEAKER_00]: I mean, you look at it, the bronchose pastie fence is excellent.
- 6:47[SPEAKER_00]: The Patriots pastie fence is very good.
- 6:49[SPEAKER_00]: I think the Brown's pastie fence has looked good against most teams, not the Jaguars, and the Bengals defense has looked better against most teams in the Jaguars.
- 7:05[SPEAKER_00]: And again, these numbers are skewed heavily in the fact that for two quarters of the NFL season so far, two quarters out of four games, basically a full half out of four games.
- 7:19[SPEAKER_00]: The Jaguars have just been trying to run out the clock, right?
- 7:25[SPEAKER_00]: General Lawrence has shown him command of the offense.
- 7:27[SPEAKER_00]: They have a plethora of receivers to throw the football to.
- 7:31[SPEAKER_00]: Liam Cohen knows how to dial it up.
- 7:33[SPEAKER_00]: He still gets guys open consistently.
- 7:37[SPEAKER_00]: Between Parker Washington, Jacobi Myers, Britain Strange, Brian Thomas Jr., Josh Cameron has become incredibly efficient for this team.
- 7:46[SPEAKER_00]: Nate Borkercher, not super involved in the passing game, but he's been efficient, Tutan's been efficient.
- 7:53[SPEAKER_00]: It just feels like there's more answers
- 7:56[SPEAKER_00]: Then defense can pose questions and almost every game so far outside of a quarter and a half against the Broncos.
- 8:04[SPEAKER_00]: One big key for this offense, there are second and red zone scoring percentage when it comes to touchdowns.
- 8:10[SPEAKER_00]: Second in the NFL and scoring touchdowns once they get in the red zone, once they get there, it's been pretty close to automatic, which is obviously huge for them.
- 8:20[SPEAKER_00]: The new look defensively.
- 8:22[SPEAKER_00]: They are second and points allowed per game.
- 8:25[SPEAKER_00]: Second and points allowed.
- 8:26[SPEAKER_00]: They are second and rush yards allowed.
- 8:30[SPEAKER_00]: They're tied for eighth and sacks.
- 8:32[SPEAKER_00]: Just pretty darn good, especially compared to where they were last year and I feel like they're moving in the right direction there, getting pressure on the quarterback, getting the quarterback to the ground.
- 8:43[SPEAKER_00]: They're tied for the most interceptions in the NFL.
- 8:46[SPEAKER_00]: They're second in the NFL and turn over his forced
- 8:50[SPEAKER_00]: They are fifth and third down percentage allowed.
- 8:54[SPEAKER_00]: They're not allowing teams to convert third downs at a high rate, which was an issue for the Jaguar last year at times on the defensive side of the ball.
- 9:02[SPEAKER_00]: They are second in red zone defense, keeping teams out of the end zone once they reach the red zone.
- 9:08[SPEAKER_00]: So you have a team that is very good statistically on both sides of the ball.
- 9:13[SPEAKER_00]: The defense is statistically performing better than the offense.
- 9:18[SPEAKER_00]: and you could argue the offense has had a little bit stiffer tests so far.
- 9:22[SPEAKER_00]: But both sides are playing very well.
- 9:24[SPEAKER_00]: Both sides are basically functioning as if the defense is functioning like top five in the NFL.
- 9:31[SPEAKER_00]: The offense is functioning close to top 10.
- 9:33[SPEAKER_00]: I think the offense can get even better.
- 9:37[SPEAKER_00]: But both sides of the ball are excellent in the red zone.
- 9:42[SPEAKER_00]: Both sides of the ball,
- 9:44[SPEAKER_00]: or excellent in the turnover battle.
- 9:46[SPEAKER_00]: The Jaguars are first in turnover differential.
- 9:49[SPEAKER_00]: They are not turning the ball over on offense and they are turning the ball over and extremely high clip on the defensive side of the ball.
- 9:55[SPEAKER_00]: People say that turnovers aren't sticky.
- 9:58[SPEAKER_00]: Well, they have been sticky from 2025 to 2026 for the Jaguars.
- 10:03[SPEAKER_00]: And this is a team that focuses on turnovers every single day.
- 10:06[SPEAKER_00]: They teach it.
- 10:08[SPEAKER_00]: They talk about it.
- 10:09[SPEAKER_00]: They focus on it.
- 10:11[SPEAKER_00]: Is there going to be games where you struggle to force turnovers?
- 10:13[SPEAKER_00]: Yes.
- 10:13[SPEAKER_00]: But then you can fall back on the fact that you have a great run defense as well.
- 10:18[SPEAKER_00]: And honestly, think the more Travis hunters out there, the more turnovers are going to happen because you can't just throw the ball at him.
- 10:25[SPEAKER_00]: Then you start throwing the ball up.
- 10:28[SPEAKER_00]: and other guys are getting opportunities, right?
- 10:30[SPEAKER_00]: So I think that this team is extremely well-coach on both sides of the bowl.
- 10:34[SPEAKER_00]: He also have the fact that special teams is kind of rounding into form.
- 10:38[SPEAKER_00]: Cam little is seven evade, if you don't include the 70 yarder.
- 10:41[SPEAKER_00]: I mean, he's been excellent this year.
- 10:42[SPEAKER_00]: And I'm not gonna blame any kicker ever for missing a 70 yard kick unless things dramatically change with the way, and of course,
- 10:50[SPEAKER_00]: You know, as in 10 years, maybe 70 yards will be like the new 60 yards, but as of right now, a 70-yarder is extreme still.
- 10:59[SPEAKER_00]: But Cam Little is kicking field goals well, Logan Cook.
- 11:03[SPEAKER_00]: I think is kicking it very well.
- 11:05[SPEAKER_00]: They're eighth in net punning.
- 11:07[SPEAKER_00]: That'll probably improve a little bit as the season goes on.
- 11:10[SPEAKER_00]: I think that the kickoff coverage has improved throughout the season
- 11:19[SPEAKER_00]: You look, and you can make the argument that they have a top 10 offense against statistically, the offense is a little bit below top 10 in some areas, but I think that had you not call it off the dogs in two of your games, you're probably talking about an offense that is easily top 10 in most categories, and then the defense is, you know.
- 11:45[SPEAKER_00]: top two, top three, top five.
- 11:48[SPEAKER_00]: It looks like right now.
- 11:50[SPEAKER_00]: Anytime you have that much balance, plus the good special teams players that you have, special teams coaching and performance that you have, it makes you a very complete team and balanced team and difficult team to beat.
- 12:04[SPEAKER_00]: They have a lot of different ways to win football games.
- 12:08[SPEAKER_00]: But I do think the offensive line has to improve.
- 12:12[SPEAKER_00]: Still think there's too many, just miscuse offensive line-wise.
- 12:17[SPEAKER_00]: Whether that be executing an assignment, losing a one-on-one, not picking up a blitzer, whatever it may be, I think the offensive line has to get better.
- 12:26[SPEAKER_00]: And it's mostly for me just one-on-one's called Van Lannon and Anton Harris, and I think need to perform in a little bit higher clip than what they showed against the Bengals.
- 12:35[SPEAKER_00]: And the interior of the offensive line, it wasn't great, but they were going up against
- 12:43[SPEAKER_00]: You have to manage these cornerback injuries, well, don't know about Buster Brown.
- 12:49[SPEAKER_00]: We do know Christian Browsewell has headed to, well, he's wave slash injured, so if he doesn't get claimed by another team, he will head to injured reserve for the Jaguars.
- 13:01[SPEAKER_00]: So you have some depth issues there at corner, they went and signed Elijah Hussie and Jalen Jones.
- 13:12[SPEAKER_00]: And you also have Caleb Branson at safety getting placed on injured reserve.
- 13:17[SPEAKER_00]: They obviously have.
- 13:20[SPEAKER_00]: a lot of guys at safety, they feel pretty good about.
- 13:23[SPEAKER_00]: But you have to manage those secondary injuries.
- 13:26[SPEAKER_00]: The past rush, I think, needs to keep leveling up.
- 13:28[SPEAKER_00]: You're seeing signs of this past rush being very, very good, but I think it needs to keep leveling up.
- 13:33[SPEAKER_00]: The kick coverage is improving.
- 13:35[SPEAKER_00]: It needs to continue to move in the right direction and not regress back to what you saw early in preseason and early in the season.
- 13:44[SPEAKER_00]: The Jaguars, I mean, call it what you will, they committed 13 penalties against the Bengals.
- 13:49[SPEAKER_00]: The penalty thing cannot become a trend where the penalty numbers are that high moving forward.
- 13:56[SPEAKER_00]: Early on last year, first half of the year, Jaguars were one of the most penalized teams in the league, right?
- 14:02[SPEAKER_00]: I think you move into
- 14:06[SPEAKER_00]: The back half of 2025, and they really cleaned it up, and then early on in 2026, it felt like it was really cleaned up.
- 14:12[SPEAKER_00]: Then it rears its ugly head against the bingles.
- 14:14[SPEAKER_00]: You just need to make sure that doesn't become a trend.
- 14:16[SPEAKER_00]: Outside of that, they look like a damn good football team.
- 14:19[SPEAKER_00]: And it's not like the offensive line's been atrocious, it's been pretty good.
- 14:24[SPEAKER_00]: But Trevor Lawrence is playing great ball.
- 14:28[SPEAKER_00]: The running backs are getting the job done.
- 14:30[SPEAKER_00]: The receivers are getting the job done.
- 14:32[SPEAKER_00]: The play calling is on point on offense.
- 14:35[SPEAKER_00]: The tie-dance being able to get into 12 personnel or 11 personnel pretty much without any sort of drop off, I think is huge.
- 14:43[SPEAKER_00]: You'll look at the defense.
- 14:45[SPEAKER_00]: I mean, stopping the run, forcing turnovers, keeping teams out of the end zone when they do reach the red zone.
- 14:52[SPEAKER_00]: There is a lot to like about this checks and Bill Jaguar's team.
- 14:56[SPEAKER_00]: And if you enjoy the content here, please like and subscribe that's gonna do it for us.
- 15:00[SPEAKER_00]: And also hit that high button, y'all have great one.
