Transcript
- 0:00Good morning. This is Dr. Kevin Hartung from
- 0:02Family Chiropractic Center here in Robinson Township,
- 0:04Pennsylvania. And you know what? I want to talk
- 0:07with you today about something that could change
- 0:09the way your entire day feels. We're talking
- 0:12about a simple morning mobility routine. Now
- 0:16here's the thing. Most of us roll out of bed,
- 0:19maybe shuffle to the coffee pot, and boom, we're
- 0:22off to start our day. But your body? It's been
- 0:24lying still for six, seven, maybe eight hours.
- 0:28Your muscles are tight, your joints are stiff,
- 0:30and everything's just kind of locked up. And
- 0:33then we wonder why our back hurts by lunchtime.
- 0:36So, let me walk you through a quick five -minute
- 0:39routine you can do right when you wake up. Nothing
- 0:41fancy. No equipment needed, just you and your
- 0:45body getting ready for the day ahead. First thing,
- 0:49while you're still lying in bed, do some gentle
- 0:51knee to chest stretches. Pull one knee up toward
- 0:54your chest, hold it for about 10 seconds, then
- 0:57switch sides. Do that maybe three times each
- 1:00leg. This wakes up your lower back and hips in
- 1:02the gentlest way possible. You're essentially
- 1:05telling your spine, hey, it's time to move. Now,
- 1:08once you're up and standing, let's do some spinal
- 1:11twists. Stand with your feet about shoulder -width
- 1:14apart and just gently rotate your upper body
- 1:17side to side. Let your arms swing loose like
- 1:21you're wringing out a towel. Do this for about
- 1:2330 seconds. You'll feel your mid -back start
- 1:25to loosen up. That's exactly what we want. Next
- 1:28up, neck rolls. And listen, go slow here. Drop
- 1:31your chin toward your chest, then roll your head
- 1:33gently to one side. back and around to the other
- 1:37side. Nice and easy. Do maybe three or four circles
- 1:40each direction. Your neck holds so much tension
- 1:44from sleeping, from your pillow, from everything.
- 1:48This helps release that. Here's one people forget
- 1:50about. Your shoulders. Bring them up toward your
- 1:53ears. Hold for three seconds, then drop them
- 1:56down. Do that five times, then roll your shoulders
- 1:59backward in big circles. Forward two. We carry
- 2:02stress in our shoulders and this simple move
- 2:05can save you from that tight hunched feeling
- 2:07later. And finally, let's get those hamstrings
- 2:10and lower back with a standing forward fold.
- 2:12Feet hip width apart. Bend at your hips and let
- 2:15your upper body hang down toward the floor. Don't
- 2:18force it. Just let gravity do the work. Hang
- 2:20there for 20 or 30 seconds. You should feel a
- 2:24nice stretch down the back of your legs and into
- 2:26your lower back. The whole routine, five minutes
- 2:28tops. But here's what I see in my practice every
- 2:31single day. People who start their morning with
- 2:33just a little bit of movement, they feel better,
- 2:36they move better, they have fewer aches and pains
- 2:38throughout the day. Now, if you're waking up
- 2:41with significant pain, or if these movements
- 2:44make things worse instead of better, that's your
- 2:47body telling you something's off. That's when
- 2:49you need to come see us. We can figure out what's
- 2:51going on and get you moving the right way. But
- 2:53for most of you listening, this simple routine
- 2:55is a game changer. Try it for one week, just
- 2:58one week. See how you feel. I think you're going
- 3:00to be surprised. Thanks so much for tuning in
- 3:02today. If you have questions or you'd like to
- 3:04schedule an appointment here at Family Chiropractic
