- 0:12Hello friends, it's Sean here it is Tuesday.
- 0:16It's the 18th of June and you have tapped on play.
- 0:21Good day. Hello.
- 0:22Thank you. Well done and good on you.
- 0:24Great to have your company. We are today going to round out
- 0:28the smartest book of the Bible. That's right, today we are going
- 0:32to finish reading Ecclesiastes, which has to be the wisest book
- 0:36of the Bible, right? It has to be the book because it
- 0:38is filled with so many big questions that make even the
- 0:41wisest people throughout history scratched their heads and say,
- 0:45Yep, I got nothing. Yeah.
- 0:48And that is where we have been. And today we will hear the final
- 0:51concluding thoughts from the teacher and that they do not
- 0:56wrap everything up neatly with a little bow on top and say, there
- 1:00you go, I've sorted it all out for you and basically say, well,
- 1:04I'm not going to tell you what they say.
- 1:06We're going to read it together. And I'm going to let him tell it
- 1:09to you in his own words. But this is this book of wisdom
- 1:13that has been passed down through the generations,
- 1:16captured, refined, and brought to us all by God's design so
- 1:22that we can ponder these in the light of His glory and His love
- 1:27for us. How wonderful.
- 1:30What a privilege we have to be able to do that.
- 1:33So with that all said and done, come friends, let's read
- 1:36together Ecclesiastes chapter 12.
- 1:51Don't let the excitement of youth cause you to forget your
- 1:54Creator. Honour Him in your youth before
- 1:58you grow old and say life is not pleasant anymore.
- 2:03Remember him before the light of the sun, moon and stars is
- 2:08dimmed to your old eyes and rain clouds continually darken your
- 2:13sky. Remember him before your legs,
- 2:17the guards of your house start to tremble, and before your
- 2:21shoulders the strong men stoop. Remember him before your teeth,
- 2:28your few remaining servants stop grinding, and before your eyes
- 2:34the women looking through the windows see dimly.
- 2:39Remember him before the door to life's opportunities is closed
- 2:44and the sound of work fades. Now you rise at the first
- 2:49chirping of the birds, but then all their sounds will grow
- 2:53faint. Remember him before you become
- 2:58fearful of falling and worry about danger in the streets.
- 3:03Before your hair turns white like an almond tree in bloom and
- 3:08you drag along without energy like a dying grasshopper, and
- 3:13the caper Berry no longer inspires sexual desire.
- 3:17Remember him before you near the grave, your everlasting home,
- 3:24when the mourners will weep at your funeral.
- 3:27Yes, remember your Creator now, while you are young.
- 3:33Before the silver cord of life snaps and the golden bowl is
- 3:38broken. Don't wait until the water jar
- 3:42is smashed at the spring and the pulley is broken at the well,
- 3:47for then the dust will return to the earth and the Spirit will
- 3:52return to God who gave it. Everything is meaningless, says
- 3:59the teacher. Completely meaningless.
- 4:03Keep this in mind. The teacher was considered wise,
- 4:08and he taught the people everything he knew.
- 4:11He listened carefully to many Proverbs, studying and
- 4:14classifying them. The teacher sought to find just
- 4:17the right words to express truths clearly.
- 4:22The words of the wise are like cattle prods, painful but
- 4:26helpful. The collected sayings are like a
- 4:30nail studded stick with which a shepherd drives the sheep.
- 4:36That my child, let me give you some further advice.
- 4:41Be careful, for writing books is endless and much study wears you
- 4:46out. That's the whole story here.
- 4:50Now is my final conclusion. Fear God and obey His commands,
- 4:57for this is everyone's duty. God will judge us for everything
- 5:03we do, including every secret thing, whether good or bad.
- 5:20Lord, here we are, your children, whom you love, Him you
- 5:28forgive, whom you draw close to. You help us always to live as
- 5:39the Teacher says, fearing You, but not with fear in our hearts,
- 5:44but with reverence in our hearts that we would always continue to
- 5:48place You on the throne of our life.
- 5:51And everything we do is for Your glory, not our own.
- 5:55Because chasing our own glory, Lord, is meaningless.
- 5:59Endless study is wearisome and meaningless.
- 6:05Endless toil is not what you want from us.
- 6:09You want our devotion, our attention, and our lives lived
- 6:15in worship to You, our glorious, glorious and most worthy God.
- 6:22So here we are. Here we are your people, and we
- 6:26love you, and we offer ourselves to you as a living sacrifice
- 6:31today and every day, and we are able to come to you and pray
- 6:38these things in your presence. Thanks to everything that Jesus
- 6:42has done for us. So we pray this in his saving
- 6:45name, I mean.
