- 0:00Speaker 1: Hi Catherine, Hi Chelsea. It's Thursday. Does anyone want to
- 0:05Speaker 1: know if I moved into my house? I do not yet.
- 0:07Speaker 2: No, delayed, delayed, delayed, delayed.
- 0:11Speaker 1: Is that why we're not at your house? We're not
- 0:13Speaker 1: my house recording right now.
- 0:14Speaker 2: I can't wait until I sell this house and to
- 0:16Speaker 2: give somebody our brand new podcast room that we never have.
- 0:19Speaker 1: Gotten to you, and we've used it a couple of times.
- 0:23Speaker 2: So I am still staying with my friend, yes, and
- 0:28Speaker 2: just planning your next move. I'm just we're going to
- 0:31Speaker 2: my Erica soon. I am going out to my Orca. Yes,
- 0:34Speaker 2: I'm going to my Orca. I'm doing I have the
- 0:36Speaker 2: month of September in LA. They say they are almost finished.
- 0:39Speaker 2: This is what they tell me every week, every time,
- 0:41Speaker 2: every time. I now, we're waiting for the power to
- 0:43Speaker 2: be turned back on so that I can go in
- 0:45Speaker 2: and live in my house through the final stages of
- 0:48Speaker 2: the construction, just to get out of my friend's house
- 0:51Speaker 2: so that she doesn't have to deal with me sleeping
- 0:53Speaker 2: in her fucking bed with her because her nephew moved
- 0:56Speaker 2: in and now I'm in her bed and I have
- 0:58Speaker 2: Doug and on see my friend Kat, who I'm staying
- 1:01Speaker 2: with shout out to Kat Samic. Actually I don't even
- 1:03Speaker 2: know if that's how you say her last name, because
- 1:06Speaker 2: someone someone the other day said Kat Samik and I
- 1:08Speaker 2: was like, wait, is it Samic or sa Mik?
- 1:10Speaker 1: And then I don't remember what she said after that.
- 1:12Speaker 2: But she has been the most accommodating, hispitable host ever,
- 1:16Speaker 2: Like she has made me food, she has given me
- 1:19Speaker 2: things to ice when I had my foot surgery. So
- 1:22Speaker 2: she has these ice packs at her house that like
- 1:24Speaker 2: I've never seen contraptions like this where she has. She
- 1:27Speaker 2: has a contraption that ice is your big toe and
- 1:32Speaker 2: the arch of your foot or the ball of your foot,
- 1:34Speaker 2: but not the other four.
- 1:35Speaker 1: Toes, so you put it on the big toe.
- 1:38Speaker 2: She has an ice contraption for like the back of
- 1:40Speaker 2: if you want to ice the bottom of your chin
- 1:43Speaker 2: and then strap it to your head like a facelipped
- 1:45Speaker 2: ice math.
- 1:46Speaker 1: She has one of those.
- 1:47Speaker 2: She has like like one of those knee sleeves but
- 1:50Speaker 2: for your shoulder.
- 1:51Speaker 1: She has every wow And like the.
- 1:52Speaker 2: Other day, I said, because my feet or my foot
- 1:54Speaker 2: is finally healing from my foot surgery, and it's just
- 1:57Speaker 2: it's a little bit still swollen. Still it's gonna be
- 1:59Speaker 2: for a couple of months, I think, they said. But
- 2:01Speaker 2: I'm able to do stuff. And she came home the
- 2:04Speaker 2: other night with this paraffin wax foot footholders. I of
- 2:08Speaker 2: course put them on and then get got up to
- 2:10Speaker 2: try and get Doug and went flying.
- 2:12Speaker 1: But that's on me.
- 2:14Speaker 2: But she's like a lover like cat. So shout out
- 2:16Speaker 2: to my friend Kat for having me and being the
- 2:18Speaker 2: best host and putting up with all of my shenanigans.
- 2:21Speaker 2: My bell's there every morning fucking chiding up my bullshit
- 2:24Speaker 2: on my side of the bed.
- 2:26Speaker 3: And maybe as a thank you, you can learn how
- 2:28Speaker 3: to pronounce your last name.
- 2:32Speaker 2: I don't know what's wrong with me. I mean, honestly,
- 2:34Speaker 2: I have nothing left to give.
- 2:36Speaker 1: Do you know that?
- 2:36Speaker 2: You know when I was using the analogy with my friend,
- 2:39Speaker 2: I said, you know what the problem with this house is.
- 2:40Speaker 2: I love to be involved in people's lives, like I
- 2:43Speaker 2: love to be the friend that's going to go the
- 2:44Speaker 2: extra mile, that's going to make the extra phone call,
- 2:46Speaker 2: that's going to be honest and tell you the truth,
- 2:48Speaker 2: and really show up when you have such a fucking
- 2:51Speaker 2: weight of coal on you. I my ability and bandwidth
- 2:56Speaker 2: is has shrunk total. I don't have any time for
- 3:00Speaker 2: any bullshit or any anyone else's problems, which is a
- 3:04Speaker 2: selfish thing to say, And it's not entirely true because
- 3:08Speaker 2: I have, you know, but my bandwidth is diminished by
- 3:12Speaker 2: a large margin.
- 3:14Speaker 1: And I I I that Manslow's hierarchy of needs.
- 3:17Speaker 3: Right, It's like your actual place we are living is nonexistent,
- 3:21Speaker 3: you know, it's not you don't have the safety of
- 3:23Speaker 3: somewhere to go home at night, well, your own place
- 3:25Speaker 3: to go home at night and right unload and unpack
- 3:28Speaker 3: and unwined and so like, you don't have.
- 3:30Speaker 1: That extra to be giving.
- 3:31Speaker 4: That makes total sense to me.
- 3:32Speaker 2: Okay, well then that's that explains yes, when you're off
- 3:37Speaker 2: the hook.
- 3:37Speaker 1: Yeah, everybody, that's my deal. That's my deal. Suck it up. Well,
- 3:41Speaker 1: I'm really excited about our guest.
- 3:43Speaker 2: Oh yeah, she's awesome. Okay, So our guest today has
- 3:45Speaker 2: a new special. It's called Life on the PTSD list.
- 3:49Speaker 2: It's now available on YouTube. Please welcome Kathy Griffin. Kathy
- 3:54Speaker 2: Griffin is here and I'm very excited a to have
- 3:56Speaker 2: a conversation, an open conversation about plastic search.
- 4:00Speaker 4: Five weeks ago, I had a facelift.
- 4:02Speaker 2: So fresh off a facelift, yes, okay, because I'm about
- 4:04Speaker 2: to do a little nip and tucking myself, I need
- 4:06Speaker 2: my neck.
- 4:07Speaker 1: A little bit.
- 4:08Speaker 4: I got the neck pull.
- 4:09Speaker 1: Yeah, yeah, that's what I'm not like.
- 4:11Speaker 4: Have you had it?
- 4:12Speaker 5: No?
- 4:12Speaker 4: It's painful, so you will have to turn like your
- 4:16Speaker 4: entire upper body for a while, which is kind of comical,
- 4:20Speaker 4: but just don't kid yourself. It is someone cutting the
- 4:23Speaker 4: back of your neck, open back of your neck, pulling
- 4:25Speaker 4: it as hard. Yes here, I have a little left
- 4:30Speaker 4: over here, but I also have one back there, and
- 4:33Speaker 4: so it's a yank. Okay, it is there's no other
- 4:36Speaker 4: way to put it.
- 4:36Speaker 2: And how do you get them to make sure that
- 4:38Speaker 2: you don't look pulled and that you look just fresh
- 4:41Speaker 2: rather than that.
- 4:43Speaker 4: I think I've had. I think the first one I had,
- 4:47Speaker 4: I was only thirty eight, which was dumb. It was
- 4:49Speaker 4: too young, and nobody even knew. I didn't even need it.
- 4:53Speaker 4: I just talked into it. And the second one I
- 4:56Speaker 4: think I looked pulled because that was the style of
- 4:59Speaker 4: the day, right, And now they started at like the
- 5:04Speaker 4: top of my ear, so they didn't start up like
- 5:07Speaker 4: in my forehead. So the poll was more lateral, and
- 5:11Speaker 4: I think that's why it doesn't look I don't have
- 5:14Speaker 4: like the I'm not dissing Joe Biden, but I don't
- 5:18Speaker 4: have the Joe Biden like eyes are going up.
- 5:21Speaker 2: How did Joe Biden have time to get a facelift
- 5:23Speaker 2: while he was the president?
- 5:23Speaker 4: Okay, here's what he didn't have time for. He didn't
- 5:25Speaker 4: have time to recover. Yeah, I mean you can get
- 5:28Speaker 4: the facelift. It takes five hours.
- 5:30Speaker 1: It does take a period of time to settle in.
- 5:32Speaker 4: Yes, it takes is that of time?
- 5:35Speaker 1: What is that period of time?
- 5:36Speaker 4: Okay, so my guy told me that it would be
- 5:39Speaker 4: three months till I could go on camera. Well, here
- 5:42Speaker 4: I am, it's five weeks. No one does and you
- 5:45Speaker 4: won't need three months.
- 5:47Speaker 5: Yeah.
- 5:47Speaker 4: I did do the hyperbar chamber every day.
- 5:51Speaker 2: Yeah, okay, great, But then you just told me that
- 5:53Speaker 2: two people exploded in hyper bear chain.
- 5:55Speaker 4: People have passed away in hyperbarl neighbors, and one was
- 6:00Speaker 4: a child in a hospital and one was a grown
- 6:02Speaker 4: man last week. And what the hyperbaric chamber place that
- 6:07Speaker 4: I go to told me was that it was related
- 6:09Speaker 4: to whatever batteries the person had taken into the chamber.
- 6:14Speaker 4: So for example, I would put my phone. They would
- 6:17Speaker 4: put my phone on top of the chamber on the outside.
- 6:20Speaker 4: Then I would have the battery operated speaker like right
- 6:23Speaker 4: next to my ear, and I'd be listening to audiobooks
- 6:26Speaker 4: during the ninety minutes. But I'll be honest now, I'm
- 6:29Speaker 4: spooked and I'm afraid to go back at.
- 6:32Speaker 2: All because when I've used that hyperbaric chamber center or
- 6:34Speaker 2: the one on Beverly, have you ever been there?
- 6:36Speaker 3: No?
- 6:36Speaker 2: Okay, well I've used that before when I had shoulder surgery.
- 6:38Speaker 2: I went in there a few.
- 6:39Speaker 4: Times and did it help?
- 6:40Speaker 2: I mean, I don't know, you can't. There's not I
- 6:42Speaker 2: mean everyone says it's great. I have one at home,
- 6:43Speaker 2: but it's a low pressure one. It's like called hyperbaric
- 6:47Speaker 2: chamber pressure like low U said, dog sea health or
- 6:50Speaker 2: some boxa health okay, and that's it's like you zip
- 6:54Speaker 2: yourself in so clearly, like you need an attendant for
- 6:56Speaker 2: the ones you're going in.
- 6:57Speaker 4: When I shot, they said you can't take your anymore,
- 7:00Speaker 4: so you just have to lay there for ninety minutes.
- 7:02Speaker 4: And I said, no, no, that's too boring. I can't
- 7:04Speaker 4: do it. No, exactly who I'd rather.
- 7:07Speaker 1: I need a book or a TV.
- 7:09Speaker 4: Need a book. I want to talk about books too,
- 7:11Speaker 4: because I've never read so much in my life since
- 7:13Speaker 4: this facelift.
- 7:14Speaker 1: Oh see, isn't that sounds like the recovery.
- 7:16Speaker 2: That's exactly what I'm looking forward to toocovery.
- 7:20Speaker 4: And really play the pity card. I mean, really play
- 7:23Speaker 4: up the pain and the pity and oh my god,
- 7:25Speaker 4: I can't move, and then of course blame society.
- 7:28Speaker 2: And then but also take tons of pills because I
- 7:31Speaker 2: love drug cool.
- 7:32Speaker 4: I mean, it's just another excuse to get don't go
- 7:35Speaker 4: with tyland On.
- 7:35Speaker 2: I know anyone who says to me and I've seen
- 7:37Speaker 2: a metafite at eight hundred, I'm like, don't talk to you,
- 7:40Speaker 2: like even be talking about melatonin.
- 7:43Speaker 4: I will pay me pills, thank you.
- 7:46Speaker 1: That's anything over the counter. I'm not interested.
- 7:49Speaker 4: You want to be fighting with your pharmacist.
- 7:51Speaker 1: So this is your So this is amazing, So this
- 7:53Speaker 1: is your.
- 7:53Speaker 4: Third way hold on. So facelift, neck pull and upper eyes.
- 7:57Speaker 2: It isn't about it, Like doesn't a next goes with
- 8:00Speaker 2: a lower face lift?
- 8:01Speaker 4: Well yes, but I had them both because I gotta
- 8:05Speaker 4: say he really did give me my jaw line back,
- 8:09Speaker 4: not that I had like big jowls, but look, I'm
- 8:11Speaker 4: sixty four and a half and so just regular skin happens,
- 8:15Speaker 4: and so I just I'm not trying to look, you know, forty,
- 8:20Speaker 4: But I just thought, if he can do it in
- 8:22Speaker 4: a way where I don't look crazy done, then I'm
- 8:26Speaker 4: gonna do it. And I hope you think this is funny.
- 8:28Speaker 4: And she's openly talked about this, but I went to
- 8:32Speaker 4: Sia's doctor. And the reason I think that's funny is
- 8:35Speaker 4: because Cia the Chandelier songstress is known for wearing a
- 8:40Speaker 4: backwards wig, and we don't even know what her face
- 8:43Speaker 4: looks like exactly. I mean, you and I know because
- 8:45Speaker 4: we know it. But I thought, I still think it's
- 8:47Speaker 4: funny that she even got a facelift and no one
- 8:51Speaker 4: knows what she looks like.
- 8:52Speaker 2: But he has also adopted like some grown men. Right,
- 8:56Speaker 2: she's adopted two grown men, two eighteen year old masts.
- 8:59Speaker 1: Right, yes, so another.
- 9:01Speaker 4: Has a baby? Has an eighteen month old?
- 9:04Speaker 1: Did she have a baby or did she adopt a baby?
- 9:06Speaker 4: She did surrogate?
- 9:07Speaker 1: Okay, yeah, and you're the surrogate of course.
- 9:10Speaker 4: Obviously, she wondered as many of my genes as how.
- 9:12Speaker 1: Many babies have you been a surrogate too?
- 9:14Speaker 4: Seventeen? And I am sore. So I will, by the way,
- 9:19Speaker 4: I will not get the downstairs rejuvenation, no matter how
- 9:24Speaker 4: sexy it's supposed to make you feel. I don't believe
- 9:29Speaker 4: in it. I don't. I think a woman hating man
- 9:33Speaker 4: must have come up with that idea. But I will
- 9:36Speaker 4: tell you this. During my facelift, I believe they may
- 9:41Speaker 4: have taken my entire ears off and put them on
- 9:44Speaker 4: a side table and then just have line reattach them
- 9:48Speaker 4: and then reattach them.
- 9:49Speaker 2: Let me show you what something you can see the scars,
- 9:52Speaker 2: what looks also like your hairline was shaped.
- 9:55Speaker 4: I'm now doing rogaine, which says nothing on the bottle
- 9:59Speaker 4: except this is not for women. If you're a woman,
- 10:02Speaker 4: don't use this. And he was like, ignore that. So
- 10:06Speaker 4: I'm almost blowing up in hyperbaric chambers, reading a lot
- 10:10Speaker 4: and using men's real gain.
- 10:11Speaker 2: Yeah, and who knows if that's flammable or if that's
- 10:13Speaker 2: a component into well.
- 10:15Speaker 4: What if I get a bush again?
- 10:16Speaker 2: Let me show you something that is happening to my ears.
- 10:19Speaker 2: You see my ears, how they're a little bit flappy.
- 10:21Speaker 1: They look like labia.
- 10:23Speaker 2: Right, they look like a little bit like they've been
- 10:25Speaker 2: stretched out like a labia. So I'm getting my when
- 10:28Speaker 2: I do whenever we're talking about now, when I do
- 10:30Speaker 2: my next thing, I'm going to get my ears trimmed.
- 10:33Speaker 2: This is a surgical question where they cut them a
- 10:36Speaker 2: little bit and reattached because they only get longer as
- 10:38Speaker 2: you get older.
- 10:39Speaker 1: I mean, you just reminded me. And listen, I've asked
- 10:43Speaker 1: some friends.
- 10:43Speaker 2: Most people will be like, you don't need to do
- 10:45Speaker 2: anything age naturally, blah blah blah. As naturally as I'm
- 10:48Speaker 2: going to. Obviously, I'm not going to do it bad
- 10:49Speaker 2: after I'm gonna that's already.
- 10:51Speaker 1: Out, also the conversation, and also the truck has already
- 10:55Speaker 1: left the station.
- 10:56Speaker 2: So, but the ear thing is not very common for
- 10:58Speaker 2: people to do. But the people that I've asked, including
- 11:01Speaker 2: a plastic surgeon, he goes, you should definitely take care
- 11:04Speaker 2: of that.
- 11:04Speaker 4: I mean, first of all, it's not an issue. But
- 11:07Speaker 4: I didn't even know that existed. It's kind of genius.
- 11:10Speaker 4: So let me tell you about the mouth part, which
- 11:12Speaker 4: is weird my version of the ear thing because I
- 11:14Speaker 4: didn't know it existed. But by the way, I think
- 11:17Speaker 4: the doctor I went to might have invented this. His
- 11:20Speaker 4: name is doctor Tally. I recommend him.
- 11:22Speaker 2: Whatever does he give you free surgery because you him
- 11:25Speaker 2: at all.
- 11:27Speaker 4: He is incredibly expensive. Now he's not the Christian or
- 11:32Speaker 4: guy who's a million doctor in New York. I believe
- 11:36Speaker 4: I may be wrong. Allegedly doctor Levine is a million,
- 11:41Speaker 4: a million dollars million. And when I mentioned that, someone
- 11:47Speaker 4: said to me, oh, there's like six guys in LA
- 11:50Speaker 4: that are now up to a million, and these dames
- 11:52Speaker 4: are paying it and some guys are.
- 11:54Speaker 2: That's ridiculous, first of all, because cost a million dollars
- 11:57Speaker 2: to get a faceline.
- 11:58Speaker 1: No, that's just taking advance, right.
- 12:01Speaker 4: But no, I'm not. I am, in no way a
- 12:03Speaker 4: paid spokesperson. This is the first time I've even said
- 12:06Speaker 4: his name. Because so far the results are good, and
- 12:09Speaker 4: that's that. But there's a thing with the corners of
- 12:13Speaker 4: my mouth, where as you get older, the very end
- 12:17Speaker 4: corners start to go down a little a little bit
- 12:21Speaker 4: of drooling. I'm already doing a lot of drolling, running
- 12:25Speaker 4: and tearing for no reason. I'm sobbing right now, and
- 12:30Speaker 4: she's an emotional wreck. He sews just a little bit
- 12:38Speaker 4: of the outside of your mouth, and so I'm just
- 12:42Speaker 4: owning that as a hardcore feminist, I paid a man
- 12:48Speaker 4: to sew my mouth shut.
- 12:54Speaker 2: Is it hard to acclimate to having a smaller mouth?
- 12:57Speaker 3: Like?
- 12:57Speaker 1: Can you fix it? Does it physically feel?
- 13:00Speaker 4: I noticed it in an out burger because when I
- 13:03Speaker 4: got sprung from the Rich Lady Healing Place, which is
- 13:07Speaker 4: its own situation comedy.
- 13:09Speaker 1: Is that the center? Yeah, all recovery center. Yes.
- 13:13Speaker 4: I don't want to get in any trouble as I've
- 13:15Speaker 4: been sued seven times since my trump head photo. So
- 13:19Speaker 4: I won't say the real name, but in my act
- 13:22Speaker 4: I call it immortal, right, because that's how they want
- 13:25Speaker 4: you to feel. Did you just take your hand and
- 13:27Speaker 4: just move your face a little.
- 13:28Speaker 1: Bit while I'm watching you?
- 13:30Speaker 2: Actually, I'm giving my face lift a bit of a
- 13:33Speaker 2: face in your face and everything that you're talking about.
- 13:36Speaker 2: I mean, I can't be enjoying a conversation.
- 13:39Speaker 4: More you've got that.
- 13:42Speaker 1: I'm just like, where else can I pinch?
- 13:44Speaker 4: And it's like shopping.
- 13:45Speaker 2: But I wonder if because you got a facelift at
- 13:48Speaker 2: thirty eight, if that was too early?
- 13:50Speaker 1: Do you think that's too early?
- 13:52Speaker 4: Yes?
- 13:52Speaker 2: Because you said you've got three facelifts, like that seems
- 13:55Speaker 2: like too many.
- 13:55Speaker 4: Okay, it's too many because my forehead is so high
- 14:00Speaker 4: that he actually said, and I'm quoting, you have too
- 14:03Speaker 4: much real estate up there, so I can't give you
- 14:07Speaker 4: the very trendy ponytail facelift, which is the one everyone's getting,
- 14:12Speaker 4: where I believe I may be wrong. They cut a
- 14:16Speaker 4: circular basically a hole at the crown of your head,
- 14:20Speaker 4: yank all the skin evenly, then sew it up, so
- 14:25Speaker 4: it's like if you're wearing the tightest ponytail you've ever.
- 14:29Speaker 2: Worn, which we all know makes is already a facelift.
- 14:31Speaker 2: Getting a tight high ponytail is like anytime I.
- 14:33Speaker 4: Do anything, should have prescription drugs that go with it
- 14:37Speaker 4: as well as it hurt just for one day. Yeah,
- 14:39Speaker 4: and so I have too much real estate. I'm doing
- 14:42Speaker 4: your quotes to have gotten the ponytail. But that's really
- 14:46Speaker 4: if you want like the trendiest of the trend, it's
- 14:49Speaker 4: the million dollar ponytail.
- 14:51Speaker 2: Okay, we have so much to talk about, Kathy, because
- 14:54Speaker 2: so much has happened. You mentioned the trumpet thing, which
- 14:56Speaker 2: made me so irate that you thank you. This is
- 15:00Speaker 2: years ago, but like you know, always that still lives.
- 15:03Speaker 2: I know, and it's so unfair to you because I
- 15:05Speaker 2: just I feel like you have been treated so unfairly
- 15:08Speaker 2: in your career, and I know you've gone through so
- 15:10Speaker 2: much personal bullshit too, with all fucking men that you've married.
- 15:14Speaker 4: Such losers.
- 15:15Speaker 1: I know, Like, where do we even begin.
- 15:18Speaker 2: Let's I don't want to harp on the Trump stuff
- 15:20Speaker 2: because you've moved past that and.
- 15:22Speaker 4: You're but I did get a death threat to my
- 15:25Speaker 4: personal email last week, and I was like, how did
- 15:27Speaker 4: they get my like even in as ever happened.
- 15:30Speaker 1: But that's easy to get threats. I wouldn't take. Don't
- 15:34Speaker 1: be too flat of that, you know what I mean?
- 15:36Speaker 4: Like, I call the FBI anyway, and I know them.
- 15:39Speaker 4: I know them. They come to my house.
- 15:43Speaker 2: Seriously, I'm not tell because I'm sure I'll be interested
- 15:45Speaker 2: in helping.
- 15:47Speaker 4: I have been, Chelsea. I've been in Twitter fights with
- 15:51Speaker 4: all these people that are now in the cabinet. Like
- 15:54Speaker 4: during the first term, I was like, it's go time,
- 15:57Speaker 4: you know, before Elon bought Twitter and now it's a
- 16:00Speaker 4: Nazi playground. But I've been in fights with half of
- 16:03Speaker 4: the fucking cabinet I just I am not even in
- 16:06Speaker 4: a political comic. I just tell stories about celebrities, and
- 16:12Speaker 4: now I'm in fights with cash Ptel.
- 16:14Speaker 2: So tell me when that whole Trump backlash. And for
- 16:16Speaker 2: those of you who aren't familiar, Kathy posted a photo
- 16:19Speaker 2: or was it a photo?
- 16:20Speaker 4: Yeah, it was a photo of me holding a Trump
- 16:23Speaker 4: Halloween mask that I had put one of my wig
- 16:26Speaker 4: heads behind because it kept folding, and I put ketchup
- 16:30Speaker 4: on it to look like blood, and I was holding
- 16:33Speaker 4: it like Perseus and Medusa, so I was holding it up.
- 16:37Speaker 1: Familiar with those two Greek mythology, got it.
- 16:40Speaker 4: And so I thought it was sort of a statement,
- 16:45Speaker 4: a very tongue in cheek. Obviously not a legitimate threat,
- 16:49Speaker 4: but the reaction to it was so seismic that to
- 16:53Speaker 4: this day, eight years later, Number one, it's it's the
- 16:57Speaker 4: thing I'm asked about more than anything. But people are
- 16:59Speaker 4: still in magaworld as pissed as if it was yesterday,
- 17:04Speaker 4: and they keep reposting the picture. Nobody reposts that picture
- 17:08Speaker 4: more than Maga people. So the I was then put
- 17:11Speaker 4: on the no fly list, the Inner Poll List, which
- 17:14Speaker 4: is the international version of the No fly list, the
- 17:17Speaker 4: Five Eyes List, which is the ISIS terror watch list.
- 17:21Speaker 4: I was out of work for six and a half years,
- 17:24Speaker 4: I mean six and a half one and my agents
- 17:29Speaker 4: even said the word they're using is squeamish. They're squeamish,
- 17:34Speaker 4: and especially now that he's back in office. And then
- 17:40Speaker 4: I did have one network be honest and say we
- 17:44Speaker 4: know you can do the job, we know you're an earner,
- 17:46Speaker 4: we know you've made a lot of money for a
- 17:48Speaker 4: lot of companies over the years. But we have Middle
- 17:52Speaker 4: America viewers also, and they just wouldn't have it. And
- 17:56Speaker 4: that is the part that I still am and kind
- 17:59Speaker 4: of shock about. Like it was a photo of a
- 18:04Speaker 4: Halloween mask, but he tweeted about it, then the wife
- 18:09Speaker 4: tweeted about it, and then all of MAGA world got
- 18:12Speaker 4: very involved and everyone turned on me, like left, right,
- 18:16Speaker 4: and center. It wasn't just MAGA. People like l Franklin
- 18:20Speaker 4: called me and I was supposed to do a book
- 18:22Speaker 4: event for him, and he broke my heart because he
- 18:25Speaker 4: was like, what were you thinking? I can't be seen
- 18:27Speaker 4: with you and I was just sobbing and like handed
- 18:30Speaker 4: the phone off to my assistant. It was dark, and
- 18:33Speaker 4: then I got fired on the ticker from CNN New
- 18:36Speaker 4: Year's Eve. I used to do New Year's Eve on
- 18:39Speaker 4: CNN with Anderson Cooper and then he made a statement
- 18:43Speaker 4: like everybody felt compelled to make a statement and call
- 18:47Speaker 4: me a terrorist and say that American service members were
- 18:51Speaker 4: going to be beheaded in my name and that I
- 18:54Speaker 4: was a recruiting tool for ISIS, and this went on
- 18:59Speaker 4: and goes on to this day.
- 19:01Speaker 2: Well, I'm so sorry that you had to go through that,
- 19:04Speaker 2: Thank you. I mean, six years is an incredibly long
- 19:07Speaker 2: time not to work, and it's just another testament to
- 19:10Speaker 2: your resiliency.
- 19:11Speaker 1: So talk about that a little bit, like.
- 19:13Speaker 2: Talk about how you pull yourself out of something like that.
- 19:16Speaker 4: Well, first of all, I didn't do very well. I
- 19:18Speaker 4: became addicted to pills to the point where I tried
- 19:21Speaker 4: to overdose and take my life. I was on a
- 19:23Speaker 4: fifty one to fifty psych hold for three days, which
- 19:26Speaker 4: ended up being a good thing for me because it
- 19:29Speaker 4: got me into AA and that's great. I went through
- 19:33Speaker 4: a very very painful divorce because I truly thought I
- 19:36Speaker 4: was going to be with this guy forever. And I
- 19:39Speaker 4: got lung cancer even though I've never smoked, and I
- 19:43Speaker 4: have half a lung on my left side. I was
- 19:46Speaker 4: injured during the lung cancer surgery and permanently paralyzed my
- 19:52Speaker 4: left vocal cord. So I was the comedian that couldn't
- 19:55Speaker 4: talk and I had a voice like mini mouse for
- 19:58Speaker 4: three years. And then Sea said, you know there's a
- 20:05Speaker 4: doctor in La doctor Anka Barbou, a woman of color,
- 20:09Speaker 4: and she can do an implant. And I was like
- 20:13Speaker 4: what none of the old white guy doctors. And I
- 20:15Speaker 4: went to every fancy doctor in La going there has
- 20:22Speaker 4: to be away you get fixed. My look god, And
- 20:26Speaker 4: I went to this woman and she was like, I
- 20:27Speaker 4: can fix your voice, and she goes, I can give
- 20:30Speaker 4: you at least thirty percent more of your speaking voice,
- 20:33Speaker 4: and she gave me eighty percent more. And then I
- 20:36Speaker 4: finally got a call from the Mirage in Vegas, even
- 20:40Speaker 4: though they had made a statement about me during the
- 20:43Speaker 4: Trump stuff saying she's a terrorist, she'll never be welcome
- 20:46Speaker 4: here again. And they called me for the first job
- 20:50Speaker 4: offer in six and a half years and said you
- 20:53Speaker 4: want to come back and do a show. And I
- 20:55Speaker 4: was like crying, going yes, of course, and then I go,
- 20:58Speaker 4: but wait, what happened to the guy that made that
- 21:00Speaker 4: statemid about me? And she goes, oh, he's dead. So
- 21:05Speaker 4: now I've decided to just wait them out. And I
- 21:08Speaker 4: think a lot of the resilience is just not quitting.
- 21:12Speaker 5: Well.
- 21:12Speaker 2: First of all, the irony and the fact that a
- 21:14Speaker 2: woman was able to give you your voice back and
- 21:16Speaker 2: then a man tried to sew your mouth shut.
- 21:19Speaker 4: Yes, yes, yes.
- 21:22Speaker 2: Second of all, I would like to say, at first,
- 21:25Speaker 2: I love you.
- 21:26Speaker 1: I hope you feel loved, because I would hate.
- 21:29Speaker 2: I can't imagine the loneliness that you must have felt
- 21:31Speaker 2: during that time.
- 21:33Speaker 4: Chelsey, Everybody don't me, Like seventy five percent of my
- 21:36Speaker 4: friends just headed for the hills, just didn't return calls
- 21:40Speaker 4: or would go out of their way to be what
- 21:42Speaker 4: were you thinking? And once again you're going to get
- 21:44Speaker 4: people killed like it was. And by the way, they
- 21:48Speaker 4: never came back, like when people are like it's got
- 21:52Speaker 4: to be so gratifying when people call you and say
- 21:54Speaker 4: they're sorry. I'm like, no, not one nobody's been like
- 21:58Speaker 4: oh sorry. That was kind of a reaction. And now
- 22:01Speaker 4: it's so clear because we see Trump and his machine
- 22:05Speaker 4: do this to Rosy o'dama last weekend, probably like when
- 22:10Speaker 4: my incident happened. It was three days after Robert Muller
- 22:13Speaker 4: was appointed. I think that's why he used me as
- 22:16Speaker 4: that deflection. I think he went after Rosie last weekend
- 22:20Speaker 4: because he's on videotape with Jeffrey Epstein dancing at a
- 22:24Speaker 4: party with miners.
- 22:25Speaker 1: This whole Epstein thing is so cartoonish.
- 22:28Speaker 2: He has been demanding to see these Epstein files for years.
- 22:32Speaker 2: He has been the one demanding, and now he's like,
- 22:35Speaker 2: shut up about It's like, can we please just put
- 22:38Speaker 2: a video of him saying where are these files?
- 22:41Speaker 1: In front of his face?
- 22:42Speaker 2: Yes, he's The style of interview that they're doing is
- 22:45Speaker 2: not cutting the muscle.
- 22:46Speaker 4: It's not an interview. Our press is letting us down. Now.
- 22:49Speaker 4: I know the good press has been excluded and they've
- 22:51Speaker 4: lost the press passes. I get it, but there's got
- 22:54Speaker 4: to be some way for our press to push back harder.
- 22:57Speaker 4: Because he is on video with the Eppsteen at a
- 23:00Speaker 4: party with minors.
- 23:03Speaker 2: This may be so ridiculous if this was the straw
- 23:07Speaker 2: that broke the camel's back, because the maga isn't letting
- 23:10Speaker 2: this Epstein tape go rapist. It's like, so what's different
- 23:14Speaker 2: because this is young girls, like that's their that's their baseline.
- 23:17Speaker 2: That's their line that you can't cross, you can rape,
- 23:20Speaker 2: but you can't rape.
- 23:21Speaker 4: Remember they've been What they've been feeding off is that
- 23:24Speaker 4: the they were so sure that Hillary Clinton and me
- 23:29Speaker 4: were in the basement of a pizza parlor harvesting baby parts,
- 23:34Speaker 4: then if I if you knew how many people sent
- 23:37Speaker 4: me pizza emojis.
- 23:44Speaker 2: Yes, apparently I've never been there, obviously, not.
- 23:51Speaker 5: As if.
- 23:52Speaker 4: And I've even made a video basically saying as if.
- 23:55Speaker 4: And they're like, that's an admission, and I'm like, no, no, no,
- 23:59Speaker 4: that's not I don't know where they is.
- 24:01Speaker 1: If I were, it would be stupid enough.
- 24:04Speaker 2: Hey, as if I would ever subscribe to that kind
- 24:06Speaker 2: of behavior.
- 24:07Speaker 6: Ever, people are taking advantage of young women.
- 24:10Speaker 4: Ever ever, Ever, look at our body of work. It
- 24:12Speaker 4: speaks for itself. Look at our outside behavior and speaks
- 24:15Speaker 4: for itself. And so I think the MAGA people are
- 24:19Speaker 4: still obsessed, and I think they paid attention more to
- 24:22Speaker 4: the Epstein news than things like the Egen Carol trials,
- 24:27Speaker 4: like the thirty four counts he was convicted of. Because
- 24:30Speaker 4: I know a lot of MAGA people, and I know
- 24:34Speaker 4: friends that have lost a cousin to MAGA or I
- 24:38Speaker 4: have a girlfriend who lost her son to MAGA and
- 24:41Speaker 4: she can't even talk to him. And they are very
- 24:45Speaker 4: invested in Epstein. But it's because they thought Hilary was
- 24:50Speaker 4: going to be caught red handed molesting girls with Jeffrey Epstein.
- 24:55Speaker 1: And also, why can't he just alter the list like
- 24:58Speaker 1: he lies?
- 24:59Speaker 4: He cann It's an ex self spreadsheet. They put Oprah's
- 25:02Speaker 4: name on there, for God's sake.
- 25:04Speaker 1: He can just edit his name off of it.
- 25:06Speaker 3: I know.
- 25:06Speaker 4: But maybe the cat's out of the bag, like maybe
- 25:10Speaker 4: this is the thing that could cause a fissure.
- 25:13Speaker 2: Maybe yeah, I mean that's what it's seeming like. But
- 25:17Speaker 2: I just don't understand why he didn't handle this differently.
- 25:19Speaker 2: Why not release a list that's fake. He lies about
- 25:22Speaker 2: everything anyway, Like poles aren't real, this isn't real. Economy
- 25:25Speaker 2: is doing great, blah blah blah. So just make up
- 25:27Speaker 2: a fake list and put it out there with them
- 25:29Speaker 2: Bondi's signature.
- 25:30Speaker 1: And Brodino or whoever these other idiots are.
- 25:33Speaker 5: I know.
- 25:34Speaker 2: Okay, we're gonna take a break and we're going to
- 25:36Speaker 2: be right back and we're back with Kathy Griffin. Okay,
- 25:43Speaker 2: so let's talk, keep talking, about resiliency because you've been
- 25:46Speaker 2: through a lot, as you just stated, and now you're
- 25:49Speaker 2: going you went through to another divorce.
- 25:50Speaker 1: How many divorces?
- 25:51Speaker 4: Is this too?
- 25:52Speaker 1: Too?
- 25:52Speaker 3: So?
- 25:52Speaker 6: Three facelifts, two divorces, one cancelation right.
- 25:57Speaker 4: By the way, let's just call it what it is,
- 25:59Speaker 4: the cancelation the case, as far as showbiz, kind of
- 26:03Speaker 4: the ultimate and it really stuck.
- 26:05Speaker 2: How do you feel about your life?
- 26:09Speaker 1: Like do what do you think your purpose has been?
- 26:12Speaker 4: I think that this ultimately is my calling because, like
- 26:16Speaker 4: I mentioned, I've been in I've been sued seven times
- 26:20Speaker 4: since the Trump photo. I think I'm the most sued comedian.
- 26:23Speaker 4: I don't know about Lenny Bruce if he was sued,
- 26:26Speaker 4: because I know it was local police that harassed him,
- 26:30Speaker 4: and local police harassed George Carlin. But I had the
- 26:33Speaker 4: fence coming after me, and so I've had many maga
- 26:37Speaker 4: people sue me for things I tweeted.
- 26:39Speaker 1: And I did have any of them won these lawsuits,
- 26:42Speaker 1: not one.
- 26:43Speaker 4: I'm batting one thousand. My legal bills are insane, but
- 26:47Speaker 4: I love my lawyers. They're brilliant, and I have big news,
- 26:51Speaker 4: which is last Thursday, my last case was dismissed. So
- 26:58Speaker 4: knocking on wood, and I kind of doubt a lot
- 27:02Speaker 4: of maggi of people are listening to this, But hopefully
- 27:04Speaker 4: no one's listening to this thinking, oh wait a minute,
- 27:06Speaker 4: I want cat. They have a lawsuit at all times.
- 27:09Speaker 2: So when you say back to that question, when I
- 27:11Speaker 2: ask you what your purpose is and your purpose.
- 27:13Speaker 1: Is this, when you say this, what do you mean this?
- 27:15Speaker 1: I think it's the deal with lawsuits.
- 27:17Speaker 4: No, I think it's I'm wearing my First Amendment T shirt.
- 27:21Speaker 4: I think it's if I have a purpose. My number
- 27:23Speaker 4: one purpose, hopefully is to make people laugh. That's always
- 27:26Speaker 4: my goal. Like I said, I'm not a political comic.
- 27:30Speaker 4: I'm not Bill Maher, I never was. I tell stories
- 27:33Speaker 4: about the freaking Kardashians. And yet I think now my
- 27:39Speaker 4: purpose is to be able to tell people what the
- 27:43Speaker 4: First Amendment really is. And it's not when a private
- 27:46Speaker 4: company accuses you of defamation. It's when the government. And
- 27:51Speaker 4: I had the federal government. I was investigated by the
- 27:55Speaker 4: Department of Justice, two agencies within the DOJ, the Attorney's
- 28:00Speaker 4: Office and the Secret Service, and I was interrogated under
- 28:04Speaker 4: oath for the crime of conspiracy to assassinate the president
- 28:08Speaker 4: of the United States. Oh my god. And if I
- 28:11Speaker 4: had failed that interrogation, I could have gone to prison.
- 28:16Speaker 1: So now you're working now.
- 28:18Speaker 4: I can't believe it. I did a seventy five city tour.
- 28:21Speaker 4: I got to play Carnegie Hall again, I got to
- 28:24Speaker 4: play Boston Symphony Hall again. I got to play the
- 28:26Speaker 4: Will Turn here in Los Angeles, like every show was
- 28:30Speaker 4: a gift. And now I'm going back on the road
- 28:33Speaker 4: in November. I'll be at Planet Hollywood November eighth. I've
- 28:36Speaker 4: added more dates and I just can't wait. Every show
- 28:40Speaker 4: is special and I while I lost a large part
- 28:45Speaker 4: of my audience because I can't play the riverboats in
- 28:49Speaker 4: the South anymore, and those did pay well, but I
- 28:52Speaker 4: think I gained some like social justice warrior types.
- 28:56Speaker 7: I'm sure.
- 28:56Speaker 4: And when I was taping my special, which no one
- 28:59Speaker 4: bought so I'm just gonna put it on YouTube. So fine,
- 29:02Speaker 4: that's the story of my life. But when I even
- 29:06Speaker 4: mentioned the Trump photo as a reference point, the audience
- 29:10Speaker 4: spontaneously burst into a pause, and I almost weld up
- 29:15Speaker 4: because it was such a shock, after all of the
- 29:19Speaker 4: adverse to put a lightly adverse reaction. It was amazing
- 29:24Speaker 4: to me to hear people clapping at the mention of
- 29:26Speaker 4: that photo, which is not a threat. I just want
- 29:29Speaker 4: to reiterate that photo is not a threat. I have
- 29:32Speaker 4: no desire to kill the president. I'm not decapitating anybody.
- 29:40Speaker 2: I want to ask you a question for as from
- 29:46Speaker 2: a like a female standpoint. Do you feel respected as
- 29:50Speaker 2: a stand up comedian?
- 29:51Speaker 4: No, I don't. I feel like a lot of the
- 29:55Speaker 4: guys don't think I'm a real comic because I don't
- 29:58Speaker 4: tell traditional jokes with like a setup a punchline. I
- 30:01Speaker 4: tell stories and sometimes the story goes for two minutes
- 30:06Speaker 4: that's just a setup, and then there's seven jokes in
- 30:08Speaker 4: a row, and sometimes it has a joke every thirty.
- 30:11Speaker 4: So I don't know. But you know, I've never been
- 30:14Speaker 4: on the comedians and cars getting coffee or whatever. I
- 30:18Speaker 4: think there's a lot of you know, I have a
- 30:22Speaker 4: YouTube show now that i'm It's a money losing business proposition,
- 30:27Speaker 4: but I'm having a blast doing it. It's called Kathy
- 30:30Speaker 4: Griffin Talk your head off, get it. But I told
- 30:32Speaker 4: a story on there about the one time I went
- 30:36Speaker 4: on the Stephen Colbert Show because I'm such a fan
- 30:38Speaker 4: of his, and he really came at me hard about
- 30:43Speaker 4: the Trump Ahead picture and tried to convince me that
- 30:46Speaker 4: I had violated the First Amendment. And I walked off stage,
- 30:51Speaker 4: and I really did burst into tears the minute I
- 30:54Speaker 4: was in the wings and it was a pre tape,
- 30:57Speaker 4: and the executive producer said, I'll give you beautiful edit.
- 31:00Speaker 4: I'll give you a beautiful and I just said to him,
- 31:03Speaker 4: what was that? And he said, Stephen just couldn't get
- 31:06Speaker 4: beyond the picture. Like that shocked me because I feel like,
- 31:11Speaker 4: especially the Colbert Report, maybe more so than his current show,
- 31:15Speaker 4: was all about the First Amendment. And I said to him,
- 31:19Speaker 4: but Stephen, you know that that's our commodity, is the
- 31:22Speaker 4: First Amendment. You know that picture was covered by the way.
- 31:26Speaker 4: I did call my lawyer before I posted it, so
- 31:29Speaker 4: people think I just posted it because I'm so stupid. No,
- 31:33Speaker 4: I called my lawyer and he said, yes, it's covered
- 31:35Speaker 4: by the First Amendment. Any person who's not a well
- 31:39Speaker 4: known comedian could recreate that picture tomorrow and it's covered
- 31:43Speaker 4: by the First Amendment. Now in today's environment, I don't
- 31:46Speaker 4: recommend it, but it is definitely covered by the First Amendment.
- 31:51Speaker 3: But also like on TikTok, it's not like obviously an
- 31:54Speaker 3: easy visual, but people are having that conversation every single day.
- 31:59Speaker 4: You're just an early you know.
- 32:00Speaker 2: Do you think that are you open to having another
- 32:03Speaker 2: or taking another lover?
- 32:04Speaker 1: Husband, boyfriend? Are you done with men?
- 32:06Speaker 5: How?
- 32:07Speaker 4: I'm trying to get to the done with men stage
- 32:11Speaker 4: because the women that you and I know Jane fond
- 32:14Speaker 4: of Sharon Stone, the women that are like you know what.
- 32:17Speaker 4: I think women are leveling up right now. I think
- 32:20Speaker 4: that we're in a phase with guys, with the Joe
- 32:24Speaker 4: Roganization of America and the Andrew Tate and the Curtis
- 32:28Speaker 4: Jarvins going around. I'm not there yet because I was
- 32:33Speaker 4: a serial monogamist and I was with this guy for
- 32:36Speaker 4: twelve years. But I'm getting there, and that's where I
- 32:40Speaker 4: want to be. What about you?
- 32:41Speaker 2: I'm not interested in men right now and at all
- 32:44Speaker 2: I find the idea preposterous.
- 32:46Speaker 4: Okay, what is it about being without a guy that
- 32:50Speaker 4: you like?
- 32:51Speaker 1: Everything?
- 32:52Speaker 5: I like?
- 32:52Speaker 2: Am I to be alone? I want to sleep alone.
- 32:54Speaker 2: I don't want to hear you breathing. I don't want
- 32:57Speaker 2: to smell you, and I don't want I don't want
- 32:59Speaker 2: breath coming towards me, and I don't want sweating body
- 33:03Speaker 2: parts on me. I haven't met a man in the
- 33:06Speaker 2: last six months that I have felt like I want
- 33:09Speaker 2: to fuck this guy. Like I was in Glastonbury a
- 33:11Speaker 2: few weeks ago and I was talking to this guy
- 33:13Speaker 2: and he was French, and I've known this guy for
- 33:14Speaker 2: many years, and my girlfriends.
- 33:16Speaker 1: Are like, oh, look, look, look, look like what about him?
- 33:18Speaker 1: What about him?
- 33:19Speaker 2: And I was like, yeah, he's not gross. And then
- 33:21Speaker 2: I was talking to him. I had a couple of
- 33:23Speaker 2: drinks with him, he smoked a cigarette, and then afterward
- 33:25Speaker 2: I was like, Oh, I'm looking at him and I'm
- 33:28Speaker 2: thinking I could fuck this guy, and then I thought, no,
- 33:31Speaker 2: I can't, because you're fucking disgusting.
- 33:33Speaker 1: And he bring something, he bring something innately.
- 33:36Speaker 2: That is like there's like I have an I'm having
- 33:39Speaker 2: an allergic reaction to men right now. And I know
- 33:41Speaker 2: that it's because of, you know, the backdrop politically, the
- 33:44Speaker 2: fact that I know, like most of the men that
- 33:47Speaker 2: i'm dealing with arn Trump supporters. But it's a bigger, larger,
- 33:50Speaker 2: broader picture. It's because we're in this situation to begin
- 33:54Speaker 2: with that makes me angry at men. And I'm not
- 33:56Speaker 2: a man hater. I do want I want I want
- 34:01Speaker 2: to want to be with you, but I don't want
- 34:03Speaker 2: to be with you right, And I am so fiercely independent.
- 34:06Speaker 1: And when I travel since I mean, I know you
- 34:08Speaker 1: travel as much as I do.
- 34:09Speaker 2: I'm sure, I just don't want to do that with
- 34:13Speaker 2: the same person. Yeah, I want a variety.
- 34:15Speaker 4: You know, it's funny my last tour because I was
- 34:18Speaker 4: diagnosed with complex PTSD and you can make fun of it.
- 34:21Speaker 1: I can't imagine why.
- 34:22Speaker 4: I mean, he's I'm a drama queen. I'm a hysterical
- 34:25Speaker 4: woman and I'm on the rag. I'm on the rag
- 34:28Speaker 4: right now at sixty four.
- 34:29Speaker 2: Well, yeah, you're still getting your periods. Why do you
- 34:32Speaker 2: think your hair is so red?
- 34:33Speaker 4: Because I haven't stitched up my vagina yet, and that's
- 34:36Speaker 4: the only thing I haven't done. So I'm the last
- 34:39Speaker 4: tour of seventy five cities. What I did it was
- 34:41Speaker 4: life changing. You know, I don't have an opener. I
- 34:44Speaker 4: do two hours and I brought a friend Joe.
- 34:47Speaker 1: Yeah, face off, you take your face off. I'm just
- 34:55Speaker 1: looking at our time to make sure we don't.
- 34:56Speaker 4: Now, would you sleep with him tonight?
- 34:58Speaker 1: No?
- 34:59Speaker 2: No, once I'm done, No, not any night ever. Again,
- 35:02Speaker 2: there's no circumstance.
- 35:04Speaker 7: There is no EI.
- 35:04Speaker 2: There is not one ex boyfriend of mine, okay, that
- 35:07Speaker 2: I would ever be able to fuck again.
- 35:09Speaker 1: Okay, once I'm done, it's a wrap, I say, and same,
- 35:13Speaker 1: no revisitation.
- 35:14Speaker 4: Even if you think about the honeymoon phase and how
- 35:17Speaker 4: the section is super hot.
- 35:18Speaker 2: At the beginning, the information I have about all of
- 35:21Speaker 2: my exposition doesn't have to not make me want to
- 35:24Speaker 2: have sex with them a gun. Yeah, you know, and
- 35:25Speaker 2: I come friends with most of them, but that took
- 35:28Speaker 2: a long time too, you know.
- 35:29Speaker 1: I need like a ten year breakoff.
- 35:31Speaker 4: Yep.
- 35:31Speaker 2: And then when I see you, I could be like, okay,
- 35:34Speaker 2: and it could be cool.
- 35:35Speaker 4: Yeah, I'm friends with one, but not well, there was
- 35:38Speaker 4: one boyfriend in between the two husbands, and I'm friendly
- 35:41Speaker 4: with him, but the two husbands no, Okay. So I
- 35:44Speaker 4: take a babysitter with me every pod. So you know
- 35:47Speaker 4: how like I go out like three cities, then I
- 35:50Speaker 4: come home for five days. Then I go out and
- 35:52Speaker 4: do four cities and I come home for six days.
- 35:55Speaker 4: So every time I would bring and I called them
- 35:59Speaker 4: a babysitter, and it would be a homosexual man or
- 36:03Speaker 4: one of my girlfriends or a gay woman or whatever.
- 36:06Speaker 4: But they would just have a coffee clutch with me
- 36:08Speaker 4: in the morning, maybe do a walk, hang out backstage
- 36:12Speaker 4: and just laugh. And it just helped tremendously because my
- 36:20Speaker 4: this is so bad. Both of my husbands, I made
- 36:23Speaker 4: them my tour manager. Yeah, well hello, I know, and
- 36:28Speaker 4: everybody told me at the time, and I went and
- 36:30Speaker 4: then you didn't.
- 36:30Speaker 1: Learn the first time. You did it again? No, what
- 36:35Speaker 1: about financially? How are you financially?
- 36:38Speaker 4: I'm really good. I'm good at two things. I'm funny
- 36:41Speaker 4: and I'm good with money.
- 36:42Speaker 1: Because it feels like you've given a lot of money away.
- 36:45Speaker 4: I have given a lot of money away. And like
- 36:47Speaker 4: I said, my legal and then I'm working for six years. Correct.
- 36:51Speaker 4: But I also was raised by depression parents, use it up,
- 36:55Speaker 4: where it out, make it do. And I also was
- 36:58Speaker 4: raised by Susie Orman, the financial advisor. And so all
- 37:03Speaker 4: those years of touring and being on TV shows, I
- 37:06Speaker 4: just socked it away, socked it away, stalked.
- 37:09Speaker 1: Do you just save your mind?
- 37:10Speaker 4: I have very conservative investments, like sure, I'll invest in
- 37:14Speaker 4: Berkshire Hathaway and I just let it sit there. I
- 37:17Speaker 4: don't day trade, I don't weak trade. I don't take
- 37:20Speaker 4: tips from people. I have my money in a third
- 37:24Speaker 4: real estate, a third stocks, a third bond, well I
- 37:27Speaker 4: should say quarters, and then a quarter cash.
- 37:29Speaker 2: Rosie was there for you when you went through your thing, right, Yes?
- 37:33Speaker 2: Did you have you spoken to her since her thing?
- 37:35Speaker 5: Yes?
- 37:36Speaker 4: She gave me a statement to put out.
- 37:38Speaker 1: Oh okay when that happened.
- 37:39Speaker 4: Yes, immediately, and she wrote the perfect statement. It was funny,
- 37:44Speaker 4: it was honest, and it hit him where he lived,
- 37:47Speaker 4: and of course he lost his mind. Remember she went
- 37:51Speaker 4: after him first eighteen years ago when she sat on
- 37:55Speaker 4: the view and said he was broke and had gone bankrupt,
- 37:58Speaker 4: and that ticked him off. Then you combine that with
- 38:02Speaker 4: the Seth Meyers hosting the amazing White House Correspondence dinner
- 38:06Speaker 4: and then former President Obama doing that hilarious monologue, which
- 38:11Speaker 4: also I sort of blame those two guys in a
- 38:15Speaker 4: way too, because they didn't mean to. But when I
- 38:18Speaker 4: picture Trump sitting there at that table watching Obama get
- 38:23Speaker 4: those monstrously huge laughs making fun of him and also
- 38:28Speaker 4: saying stuff that's true, I just and I know Donald
- 38:33Speaker 4: fairly well, I don't know if you know him.
- 38:35Speaker 2: No, he came up and introduced himself to me once
- 38:37Speaker 2: at one of these restaurants on Sunset Bulevard.
- 38:39Speaker 1: He's, yeah, hello, Chelsea, I'm Donald Trump. I want to
- 38:41Speaker 1: introduce myself.
- 38:42Speaker 2: This was before he was the president, before he ran
- 38:45Speaker 2: and I was disgusted at that moment as well.
- 38:47Speaker 1: Yes, the same reaction I've always had to him, which
- 38:49Speaker 1: is discussed.
- 38:49Speaker 4: And he loves celebrities, so it doesn't surprise me at
- 38:52Speaker 4: all that he would just go up and just say
- 38:56Speaker 4: as if he knows you already, Hi, Chelsea, you should
- 38:59Speaker 4: know me. Yes, I've known him since the nineties. He
- 39:02Speaker 4: hired me one time to roast him. I'm not a
- 39:05Speaker 4: classic roaster, but as part of a challenge, I'm the apprentice.
- 39:09Speaker 4: One of the challenges was put on a show and
- 39:12Speaker 4: he called me and he said, will you be the host?
- 39:15Speaker 4: And I said where is it? And he said my
- 39:17Speaker 4: club at Bedminster in Jersey. And I said, Donald, I
- 39:21Speaker 4: didn't want to fly all the way across the country.
- 39:23Speaker 4: And I said, but if you want me to mc
- 39:26Speaker 4: and I think he offered me ten thousand dollars and
- 39:29Speaker 4: I said, I'll do it for fifty and he did.
- 39:31Speaker 4: He paid me fifty and I said, but wait, if
- 39:34Speaker 4: I am C who's like the main act and it
- 39:37Speaker 4: was Liza Minelli, so I was like, I'm in So
- 39:41Speaker 4: I will say I did get to spend the day
- 39:43Speaker 4: with Liza Minelli at Bedminster, which was an amazing experience.
- 39:49Speaker 4: What was that like? Well, first of all, I love
- 39:52Speaker 4: her unconditionally, and if she enjoys a doll, then you
- 39:57Speaker 4: know what, girl, you earned it.
- 40:00Speaker 2: You when you have like a man with legos, women
- 40:03Speaker 2: with dolls.
- 40:04Speaker 4: Yeah right, No, I mean a pill valley of the dolls.
- 40:08Speaker 4: Oh my god, I don't mean like, no, not an
- 40:15Speaker 4: American girl.
- 40:16Speaker 1: I'm so sorry.
- 40:17Speaker 2: That was stupid, but you know what it is because
- 40:20Speaker 2: of my close relationship with pills, I just immediately disassociated.
- 40:25Speaker 1: Yeah, doll, you're.
- 40:26Speaker 2: Right, but that's a sixties term, that's a valley of
- 40:28Speaker 2: the dolls exactly.
- 40:30Speaker 1: But the point taken.
- 40:32Speaker 2: And I also would like to say on the record
- 40:33Speaker 2: for anybody who's just tuning in for the first episode.
- 40:36Speaker 1: I love dolls.
- 40:37Speaker 4: She loved dolls, and you know what, Liza deserves a doll.
- 40:41Speaker 4: And I can't confirm she was on dolls that day,
- 40:45Speaker 4: but she was delightful and maybe the highlight of the
- 40:49Speaker 4: day was watching her take a sharpie and put on
- 40:52Speaker 4: her beauty mark.
- 40:53Speaker 1: Anyway, this podcast is about love.
- 40:58Speaker 2: We're gonna take a and faces and divorces and getting canceled.
- 41:03Speaker 1: We're going to take a break and come back with
- 41:05Speaker 1: Kathy Griffin and take a caller too.
- 41:07Speaker 3: This week we'd like to hear from actors or people
- 41:10Speaker 3: who work in entertainment. If you have questions about your career,
- 41:13Speaker 3: life artistic expression, right into us at Dear Chelsea Podcast
- 41:17Speaker 3: at gmail dot com.
- 41:22Speaker 1: And we're back with Kathy.
- 41:24Speaker 4: We are.
- 41:24Speaker 2: It's great speaking with you. I'm really happy to catch
- 41:27Speaker 2: up with you. Yes, always, I'm.
- 41:28Speaker 4: Always excited to get a caller text from you.
- 41:31Speaker 1: I will sometimes I have to check in on you.
- 41:32Speaker 1: I that I really appreciate course, same yours.
- 41:36Speaker 2: I just I feel bad that I don't check in
- 41:38Speaker 2: more and that you didn't have more support during that time.
- 41:40Speaker 2: You know, it's really it's just such bullshit because I've
- 41:44Speaker 2: done things like that and not gotten the heat that
- 41:46Speaker 2: you've gotten.
- 41:47Speaker 4: I've done things like that, like I thought that that
- 41:50Speaker 4: picture was going to be on a gay blog for
- 41:52Speaker 4: two days. I never thought. And also I think the
- 41:56Speaker 4: photographer sold it to TMZ and Harvey in my humble
- 42:00Speaker 4: opinion is very much in bed with Trump and a
- 42:04Speaker 4: maga and he's a gay man, so I can't figure
- 42:07Speaker 4: that part out. But anyway, that didn't help. So it
- 42:11Speaker 4: was seismic. I know it doesn't make sense.
- 42:15Speaker 1: It doesn't make sense, but you're here with us now.
- 42:17Speaker 4: I'm back on tour and I'm on on my YouTube show,
- 42:20Speaker 4: and i have a Patreon and a sub stack and
- 42:22Speaker 4: I'm just being as productive as possible.
- 42:25Speaker 1: Are you on OnlyFans?
- 42:26Speaker 4: I should be you, definitely should. I have a bucket
- 42:29Speaker 4: list goal. I would like to win beaver Hunt, which
- 42:32Speaker 4: is about a beaver. Beaver Hunt is a column in
- 42:34Speaker 4: Hustler magazine. This is a euphemism for pills. Again, it's
- 42:38Speaker 4: no euphemism. It's the beaver, as in shoot the beaver,
- 42:42Speaker 4: and it's where ladies send in a picture spreading their
- 42:46Speaker 4: pussy and it's a contest and then every month someone
- 42:50Speaker 4: has chosen from the beaver Hunt to have the best beav.
- 42:54Speaker 4: And I have a bucket list and I would like
- 42:57Speaker 4: to be a beaver hunt champion and you, I think
- 43:00Speaker 4: you have a great beaver. I think I have a
- 43:01Speaker 4: shot at it.
- 43:02Speaker 1: Is it a redhead beaver?
- 43:03Speaker 4: Yeah, which you know there's a kink for that.
- 43:06Speaker 2: That's that's why I'm asking. Yeah, I mean, I know, yeah,
- 43:10Speaker 2: I know. I'm basically, do the curtain match the drapes? Yep, yeah,
- 43:14Speaker 2: do the curtains match the drapes. My syntax is a
- 43:16Speaker 2: little bit off lately. I think it's because of the
- 43:18Speaker 2: pain pills that I'm taking for my foot. Your dolls, Yeah,
- 43:22Speaker 2: the dolls I'm taking from my foot. Okay, Catherine, what
- 43:24Speaker 2: do we have? We have that's going to be fun
- 43:26Speaker 2: for Kathy.
- 43:26Speaker 3: So Diego will be joining us here, and he says,
- 43:29Speaker 3: Dear Chelsea, I'm a thirty four year old male who's
- 43:32Speaker 3: a bit bored with life. I enjoy sitting around, playing
- 43:35Speaker 3: games on my phone and hanging out with people over fifty,
- 43:37Speaker 3: as I seem to connect with them more so than
- 43:39Speaker 3: peers my age. I interned as an assistant in the
- 43:42Speaker 3: entertainment industry during college for a few names you'd know,
- 43:45Speaker 3: and dropped out of too many law schools to count.
- 43:48Speaker 3: I'm really content not working and being lazy, but it
- 43:51Speaker 3: turns out I need the minimum wage to survive.
- 43:53Speaker 4: Yeah.
- 43:54Speaker 3: My family is well off and I grew up in
- 43:56Speaker 3: the country club scene, so now I feel retired and content,
- 43:58Speaker 3: which really seems to pay off people my age as
- 44:01Speaker 3: well as my family. Do you have any advice for
- 44:03Speaker 3: what I should do vocationally or do any of your
- 44:06Speaker 3: fun friends need a lazy assistant? I enjoy dogs, vaping,
- 44:09Speaker 3: going to lunch, and taking xanax. Cheers to you, Diego.
- 44:13Speaker 1: First of all, Diego, we have a ton in common.
- 44:16Speaker 1: We have a ton in common, except.
- 44:18Speaker 6: I fucking hustle my ass off so that I could
- 44:21Speaker 6: do those things.
- 44:22Speaker 1: I don't sit.
- 44:22Speaker 2: Around on my lazy ass and just wait for xanax
- 44:27Speaker 2: and vape pens and whatever.
- 44:30Speaker 1: And people have evict me to pop in and out
- 44:31Speaker 1: of my life. I mean, you really are a lazy fuck.
- 44:34Speaker 1: How old are you?
- 44:35Speaker 5: Oh? I'm thirty four, and yes, I admit I'm a
- 44:38Speaker 5: lazy fuck.
- 44:39Speaker 2: Lazies this is Kathy, by the way, A second.
- 44:43Speaker 5: Question for you, Kai, Kathy.
- 44:45Speaker 4: My question is very simply, will you marry me?
- 44:48Speaker 5: Because here's my time to marry you. I will go
- 44:51Speaker 5: down on you. I'll do whatever you need.
- 44:54Speaker 1: Well, thank you.
- 44:55Speaker 2: Lazy going down on someone is actually not lazy, it's
- 44:58Speaker 2: at active.
- 44:59Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 45:00Speaker 5: No, I mean I'm not lazy in the bedroom. I'm
- 45:02Speaker 5: lazy Okay, the rest of your life.
- 45:05Speaker 2: So if you chose not to work for the rest
- 45:07Speaker 2: of your life, would that be a possibility with your
- 45:10Speaker 2: family's money.
- 45:11Speaker 5: God? No, So now I'm totally fucked because I know
- 45:15Speaker 5: both of you are Trump supporters. Look like it, I
- 45:19Speaker 5: don't know, but he's garnishing our wages for student loans.
- 45:23Speaker 5: And I owe about two hundred grand. So I can't
- 45:27Speaker 5: call mommy and Daddy and say, hey, I need two
- 45:30Speaker 5: hundred K. Can you wire it over? So I have
- 45:34Speaker 5: to get my shit together. I have to pull it
- 45:37Speaker 5: together and get a job quickly. And that's why I'm
- 45:41Speaker 5: reaching out.
- 45:42Speaker 4: Now, why did you keep dropping out of law school?
- 45:44Speaker 4: And can you go back and become a lawyer?
- 45:46Speaker 5: So I think I would rather die than be a lawyer. Okay,
- 45:52Speaker 5: five law schools. I did hustle in law school, but
- 45:55Speaker 5: it was just awful. It was just not for me.
- 45:59Speaker 5: And I learned, know, I learned a lot, And now
- 46:01Speaker 5: I'm sort of content. I'm really content and happy I was.
- 46:04Speaker 5: I was miserable in law school and now i'm happy.
- 46:07Speaker 1: Well, of course you're content and happy. You're not doing
- 46:10Speaker 1: any vaping all day you're vaping and taking I know exactly,
- 46:15Speaker 1: and I think.
- 46:15Speaker 4: Might be on one. You're just gonna.
- 46:18Speaker 5: Say, I'm actually not, but I have one love of
- 46:22Speaker 5: a rethal.
- 46:22Speaker 4: Soon I'll bet you know exactly when that refill is do.
- 46:27Speaker 1: I know what my refills do.
- 46:28Speaker 5: Refs do in a day. But I'm reaching out for advice.
- 46:33Speaker 5: That's why I'm here.
- 46:34Speaker 6: Well, I mean it's that's a long like a long
- 46:38Speaker 6: reel to what is the word?
- 46:40Speaker 1: My word retrieval is off. I'm actually I had some
- 46:43Speaker 1: foot surgery.
- 46:44Speaker 2: You can see my little foot thing here, So I'm
- 46:46Speaker 2: not as sharp as I normally am because I couldn't
- 46:48Speaker 2: take all my supplements and all my you know, brain
- 46:51Speaker 2: brain juice.
- 46:51Speaker 4: And all my ship.
- 46:53Speaker 2: I had enough all my supplements, so my word retrieval
- 46:56Speaker 2: the last couple of weeks, I'm pretty disappointed in my
- 46:58Speaker 2: level of mental acuity.
- 47:00Speaker 1: But anyway, we're here and we're going to talk about it.
- 47:03Speaker 4: Well, can you follow your bliss? What makes you happy
- 47:05Speaker 4: in life?
- 47:07Speaker 5: So the retirement thing, I like sitting around. I don't
- 47:12Speaker 5: like to do shit, that's the problem. But I don't
- 47:15Speaker 5: have motivation.
- 47:16Speaker 2: Yeah, we can tell that, But like you want us
- 47:18Speaker 2: to give you a prescription to do something with your life,
- 47:21Speaker 2: and you're giving us nothing to work with. You're telling
- 47:23Speaker 2: us that you want to be retired, but you also
- 47:26Speaker 2: need to find a job.
- 47:27Speaker 5: Okay, I did entertain it, like assistant work during college,
- 47:31Speaker 5: so that's my that's my background.
- 47:34Speaker 1: But nobody wants a lazy assistant all.
- 47:36Speaker 4: And nobody wants awful.
- 47:38Speaker 6: It's like the worst person to be lazy for is
- 47:41Speaker 6: a celebrity because.
- 47:42Speaker 5: They're so high and they used to say that, like,
- 47:45Speaker 5: who's that dick that just answered the phone?
- 47:47Speaker 1: That's not your day?
- 47:48Speaker 4: Oh boy, oh boy.
- 47:49Speaker 2: I think you need to get through some soul searching
- 47:52Speaker 2: first of all, before you make any move, because you're
- 47:54Speaker 2: clearly not going to make one anyway.
- 47:56Speaker 1: You need to like maybe.
- 47:57Speaker 2: Lay off the xanax and lay off the vaping kind
- 48:00Speaker 2: of tight trait off of it. I know that doesn't
- 48:02Speaker 2: sound like fun to you. I can see by the
- 48:04Speaker 2: disgust on your face at me even recommending that.
- 48:07Speaker 4: Tight trade was a good word. So your retrieval is good.
- 48:10Speaker 1: It's getting there. Okay, good. I just have to practice,
- 48:12Speaker 1: I know. But you have to get like.
- 48:14Speaker 2: Your shit together, like this is not something that we
- 48:16Speaker 2: can help you with. You're in a deficit and you
- 48:18Speaker 2: need to get out pull yourself out of this. You're
- 48:21Speaker 2: in a malaise, like you're not really functioning on a
- 48:25Speaker 2: real level that you have the capability of functioning on.
- 48:28Speaker 1: Like I would almost say, you have to go back
- 48:30Speaker 1: to law school.
- 48:30Speaker 2: You owe it to yourself to be a productive member
- 48:32Speaker 2: of society.
- 48:33Speaker 1: But clearly you can't do that.
- 48:35Speaker 2: So why can't you go get a job in the
- 48:36Speaker 2: interim at fucking Starbucks and get yourself in the That's
- 48:40Speaker 2: what I do.
- 48:40Speaker 5: I hop around with the people there. They don't like me,
- 48:44Speaker 5: and I get annoyed extremely easily. I get I have
- 48:48Speaker 5: very bad, irritable issues with people. So I have to
- 48:52Speaker 5: work autonomously. I need an autonomous job where I can
- 48:55Speaker 5: be by mich You don't.
- 48:56Speaker 4: Have the motivation to be a self starter, that's the thing.
- 48:59Speaker 4: You gotta have the motivation to get your ass up
- 49:01Speaker 4: every day and do it.
- 49:02Speaker 1: I've never even heard anything like this.
- 49:05Speaker 2: You sound like one of my nephews who wants like
- 49:08Speaker 2: a get rich quick scheme but isn't willing to put
- 49:10Speaker 2: in any of the work.
- 49:12Speaker 5: Well, I did hustle for so many years in school,
- 49:15Speaker 5: and it's just but.
- 49:16Speaker 1: Then you didn't graduate, So like what no.
- 49:19Speaker 2: Yeah, so that doesn't matter because you didn't get anything.
- 49:22Speaker 1: From that hustle.
- 49:23Speaker 2: So you now are left with nothing and you need
- 49:26Speaker 2: money and you need a job. So you kind of
- 49:28Speaker 2: have to do You kind of have to take your
- 49:30Speaker 2: attitude of wanting to be autonomous and throw it out
- 49:32Speaker 2: the fucking window and actually put a whole new personality
- 49:36Speaker 2: on your you get along with others.
- 49:38Speaker 5: Yeah, you have to like wha, Well, I try, I
- 49:42Speaker 5: do try hard, but they can see through it. You know,
- 49:45Speaker 5: they can see you know, I'm not meant to be.
- 49:49Speaker 1: This isn't a real phone call. This is not a
- 49:51Speaker 1: real phone call.
- 49:52Speaker 3: I do have a suggestion for like an avenue for
- 49:55Speaker 3: you to explore after.
- 49:56Speaker 1: You do some soul searching.
- 49:58Speaker 3: I have found that people I know who are successful
- 50:02Speaker 3: in business, there are some people I know who are
- 50:05Speaker 3: very successful who are the most lazy people I know.
- 50:08Speaker 3: And it's because they figure out workarounds to not have
- 50:10Speaker 3: to work that hard. Not saying all business people are lazy,
- 50:13Speaker 3: but there are a few I know who are like
- 50:15Speaker 3: very successful, And I feel like you have personality.
- 50:19Speaker 1: You don't want to do a lot of prep work
- 50:21Speaker 1: before you go back into a job.
- 50:22Speaker 3: Find something in sales. Find something in sales. Find the
- 50:26Speaker 3: most expensive thing that you can sell, whether that's cars,
- 50:28Speaker 3: whether that's houses, whatever, and like go explore that and
- 50:33Speaker 3: get yourself an assistant to actually do all the work.
- 50:34Speaker 2: You know, who's what would be good for sales. Air
- 50:37Speaker 2: conditioning in Europe. They're gonna need it too, because it's
- 50:39Speaker 2: fucking hard over.
- 50:40Speaker 5: There out of the country anyway, great.
- 50:46Speaker 2: Dual citizenship, you need to go to Europe and start
- 50:49Speaker 2: selling air conditioning units?
- 50:52Speaker 5: Is that like legitimate? Are you?
- 50:54Speaker 3: Well?
- 50:54Speaker 4: They really need it?
- 50:55Speaker 1: I mean, think about it, conditioning.
- 50:58Speaker 2: I just came from Europe for two months now, except
- 51:01Speaker 2: for hotels, and they have so all they're going to
- 51:03Speaker 2: be doing. And because to actually install air conditioning into
- 51:07Speaker 2: a house is a major like undertaking.
- 51:09Speaker 1: It takes like it's like hundreds of thousand of dollars.
- 51:11Speaker 2: So in the interim, people are going to be buying
- 51:13Speaker 2: these little units and having those units installed into their windows.
- 51:16Speaker 2: So you could either sell those or you could choose
- 51:18Speaker 2: to install those. And I don't know how you're going
- 51:20Speaker 2: to get your European visa because you're too lazy to
- 51:23Speaker 2: wait online at the embassy.
- 51:24Speaker 4: And there is a line.
- 51:26Speaker 1: Yeah, yeah, but food.
- 51:29Speaker 7: Yeah.
- 51:29Speaker 5: I mean, look, I'm open to it all. I'm open
- 51:32Speaker 5: to it all, and I do like the sales idea.
- 51:35Speaker 5: I mean, I don't know if I have the personality
- 51:37Speaker 5: for it.
- 51:37Speaker 2: Well, you do have a kind of funny personality, so
- 51:40Speaker 2: like maybe you should augment that. Like, you do have
- 51:43Speaker 2: some good qualities in your personality. So I think you
- 51:46Speaker 2: have to stop talking about how lazy you are. Like,
- 51:49Speaker 2: that's not going to bring I know. I know, for
- 51:52Speaker 2: for the purpose of this phone call, it's very helpful,
- 51:54Speaker 2: but for the purpose of you living your life, it's
- 51:56Speaker 2: going to have a deleterious impact on everything you do.
- 51:59Speaker 2: Nobody wants to be around people that are lazy. People
- 52:02Speaker 2: want to be you know, we live in an ambitious society.
- 52:05Speaker 2: People want money, they want success. You are sitting here
- 52:08Speaker 2: telling us you want money. You don't really care about
- 52:11Speaker 2: the success, You just want the money.
- 52:13Speaker 5: Yeah.
- 52:14Speaker 4: Yeah, he loves retiring. He wants to retire.
- 52:17Speaker 1: What about working at a retirement community.
- 52:19Speaker 5: Yeah, you know what, I have thought of that, and
- 52:21Speaker 5: I think you might be right.
- 52:23Speaker 4: Yep.
- 52:23Speaker 5: And I hang out with the old people all day.
- 52:25Speaker 5: I make minimum wage, which is fine.
- 52:27Speaker 2: And then move slowly transition into moving into the retirement community.
- 52:31Speaker 4: Change A couple diapers won't kill you.
- 52:33Speaker 5: Do I have to wipe bass? I mean I don't
- 52:35Speaker 5: know if you have to.
- 52:36Speaker 2: Yeah, white ass, think in the beginning you're going to
- 52:38Speaker 2: have to wipe aass. But but but the other thing is,
- 52:40Speaker 2: listen to this.
- 52:41Speaker 1: This is a great idea.
- 52:42Speaker 2: Actually, you start working at a retirement community and then
- 52:45Speaker 2: slowly you enter that retirement community because you want to
- 52:48Speaker 2: be retired. That's the lifestyle you want, right, you want
- 52:51Speaker 2: to like play? Do you play video games? What do
- 52:53Speaker 2: you do with your downtime?
- 52:54Speaker 5: I play video games?
- 52:55Speaker 1: Okay?
- 52:55Speaker 5: Absolutely right?
- 52:56Speaker 1: Do you golf?
- 52:57Speaker 5: No?
- 52:57Speaker 1: That's too much energy?
- 52:59Speaker 5: A little bit.
- 52:59Speaker 4: Yeah, he said he's a country club guy.
- 53:01Speaker 1: But he's probably online at a country club.
- 53:03Speaker 2: You know what I mean?
- 53:04Speaker 1: He's is he physically actually going to golf?
- 53:07Speaker 5: Oh? I grew up on the course.
- 53:08Speaker 2: So okay, well excuse me, okay, well okay. These are
- 53:13Speaker 2: your two options. You are either going to start working
- 53:16Speaker 2: at a retirement community or moving to Europe and selling
- 53:19Speaker 2: air conditioning units.
- 53:21Speaker 4: I like the latter, it's very specific.
- 53:23Speaker 5: I think you've just nailed it. I think I need
- 53:25Speaker 5: to work at a retirement home.
- 53:27Speaker 4: There you go, there go.
- 53:29Speaker 5: I mean, I'm not even joking.
- 53:30Speaker 1: You can be the entertainment activity.
- 53:32Speaker 4: I don't believe your conditioning idea is you every detail.
- 53:37Speaker 1: But except for the visa that we don't have the user.
- 53:40Speaker 4: Gesturing the size of the unit, everything. And she said
- 53:45Speaker 4: you could install them for more money.
- 53:47Speaker 1: You could sell them, or you could install them.
- 53:50Speaker 2: I would believe selling them would yield a better profit
- 53:52Speaker 2: margin than installing them, don't you.
- 53:54Speaker 4: You should find out.
- 53:55Speaker 2: It's like blue collar to white collar. So but you
- 53:57Speaker 2: should definitely find out. You could even talk about it.
- 53:59Speaker 2: I mean, you could even do the air conditioning idea
- 54:01Speaker 2: here because there are plenty of regions of this country
- 54:04Speaker 2: that probably need air conditioning too.
- 54:06Speaker 4: And therese retirement homes that probably have faultier conditions.
- 54:10Speaker 1: This is even better.
- 54:11Speaker 2: You can install air conditioning units in the retirement home
- 54:16Speaker 2: when when.
- 54:17Speaker 5: There you go. You just got it. But if that
- 54:20Speaker 5: doesn't work, If it doesn't work, I'm marrying Kathy.
- 54:23Speaker 4: Yep, And it always works.
- 54:25Speaker 1: Kathy will marry you.
- 54:27Speaker 2: She's proven herself to marry one idiot after another, so.
- 54:30Speaker 4: She is okay, I married.
- 54:32Speaker 2: Yeah, as long as you're willing to take her money.
- 54:34Speaker 2: When you guys, when she divorces you, I promise, promise.
- 54:38Speaker 5: I don't care about the money. I just want a
- 54:40Speaker 5: peaceful life.
- 54:42Speaker 1: He sounds like you also want the money.
- 54:44Speaker 5: Well, I need I need to pay back that loan,
- 54:46Speaker 5: that student loan.
- 54:48Speaker 1: That you didn't get it to Plomba.
- 54:49Speaker 4: I would probably do that during the ceremony, Like that's
- 54:52Speaker 4: how bad I am.
- 54:53Speaker 1: I would get these.
- 54:55Speaker 4: I would just pay off the two in ok.
- 54:57Speaker 2: Okay, right, so there's three options and here now, yeah, okay,
- 55:01Speaker 2: so we are three.
- 55:02Speaker 4: Just really up her game.
- 55:03Speaker 2: I just want to actually yes, And that's kind of
- 55:06Speaker 2: amalgamating all three.
- 55:07Speaker 1: Well, it's not.
- 55:08Speaker 2: It's a new idea because him marrying you, then he
- 55:11Speaker 2: doesn't have to move into the retirement community and he
- 55:12Speaker 2: doesn't have to do the air conditioning.
- 55:14Speaker 4: Okay, I'm happy to move into a retirement community, like
- 55:17Speaker 4: and I'll have a ball or one like I'll redo it.
- 55:20Speaker 4: I'll have seventeen air conditioning units. All the ideas can
- 55:24Speaker 4: be one.
- 55:25Speaker 5: Are you fifty five yet? I don't know if you're
- 55:27Speaker 5: up there or.
- 55:28Speaker 4: No, I'm sixty four and a half.
- 55:30Speaker 5: Oh well, fuck o, there you go, let's move in together.
- 55:33Speaker 4: My fuck is right.
- 55:35Speaker 1: She doesn't need that yet, do you feel chemistry with him?
- 55:38Speaker 1: Be honest?
- 55:39Speaker 4: I okay, technically, to be honest, I don't feel chemistry,
- 55:43Speaker 4: but he does fit my pattern.
- 55:47Speaker 5: Once you get to the point where you need someone
- 55:49Speaker 5: to wipe your butt, I can be that.
- 55:51Speaker 2: You just said ten minutes ago that you don't want
- 55:53Speaker 2: to wipe anyone's ass.
- 55:54Speaker 1: You're a flipsydoodle.
- 55:56Speaker 4: He's growing.
- 55:56Speaker 5: Well, if I'm marrying her, then it's part of what
- 56:00Speaker 5: happens in life. She is my wife.
- 56:02Speaker 1: Yeah as a newlywed.
- 56:04Speaker 4: Yeah, are you going to be faithful to me?
- 56:06Speaker 5: Yeah?
- 56:07Speaker 2: Yeah, he's too lazy to cheat on you. I mean, honestly,
- 56:11Speaker 2: it takes time.
- 56:12Speaker 4: It takes time. Yeah.
- 56:15Speaker 6: Well, I guess we've sorted your life out for you, right,
- 56:17Speaker 6: I mean it feels like.
- 56:19Speaker 5: I genuinely think you did. I'm going to start applying
- 56:23Speaker 5: and I'm not joking.
- 56:24Speaker 2: Okay, Great, that was a solid call, in solid rounded
- 56:27Speaker 2: advice that we gave.
- 56:28Speaker 4: I like how you're mimicking a fake tie, like almost
- 56:32Speaker 4: like you're manifesting yourself in a suit.
- 56:35Speaker 2: The interview, Ye, what are you going to do when
- 56:37Speaker 2: we hang up this phone call?
- 56:39Speaker 5: I'm gonna play video games?
- 56:41Speaker 4: And what time will you take the xenax.
- 56:43Speaker 5: I'm trying to ration because I only have one love. Okay,
- 56:46Speaker 5: maybe you can help me out.
- 56:48Speaker 2: Yeah, save that one. I got a whole bunch when
- 56:50Speaker 2: I went to Europe because I was traveling. So I'm
- 56:52Speaker 2: set for the next six months because I just like
- 56:54Speaker 2: have a full supply. That has nothing to do with you,
- 56:57Speaker 2: because I'm definitely not sharing my xanax with you because
- 56:59Speaker 2: you need more or I need you to show some gusto,
- 57:02Speaker 2: you know what I mean.
- 57:06Speaker 1: Does it feels like he already took some?
- 57:08Speaker 2: I mean I mean he's got a little stash. Yeah,
- 57:11Speaker 2: are you taking propofole?
- 57:13Speaker 5: And I'm not, but I would be down to open.
- 57:17Speaker 4: He's a what do you say, flipsy doodle?
- 57:19Speaker 1: He's a whoopsie doodle.
- 57:21Speaker 2: Okay, he's a flipp it and reverse at whoopsie doodle
- 57:23Speaker 2: flipsy doodle. Okay, all right, Well this was very entertaining
- 57:26Speaker 2: and mind blowing.
- 57:30Speaker 1: Thanks great talking to you. See at the wedding, bye
- 57:33Speaker 1: bye bye. Wow.
- 57:37Speaker 4: Okay, that was a lot. Wow. And I thought it
- 57:41Speaker 4: wasn't a preak. It could have known.
- 57:42Speaker 1: I don't think it was. Now I think he was.
- 57:45Speaker 4: He had a lot of detail.
- 57:46Speaker 2: He I think he's so far removed from reality that
- 57:51Speaker 2: he wasn't even put.
- 57:52Speaker 1: Together a serious phone call. Okay, you know what I mean.
- 57:56Speaker 4: He covered many bases, many bases, Okay, although I will.
- 57:59Speaker 1: Say he I've been while not covering any at.
- 58:01Speaker 4: All, No, and being lazy and really doubling down on
- 58:05Speaker 4: the like you guys don't are not hearing me. I
- 58:08Speaker 4: don't like people. I'm irritable, I have a fake tie,
- 58:11Speaker 4: and I am lazy.
- 58:14Speaker 1: He told himself a little short. He was helping his
- 58:15Speaker 1: grandma move. That would have been helpful, and I mean
- 58:20Speaker 1: anything like that.
- 58:21Speaker 2: He needs to move in with his grandmother into that
- 58:23Speaker 2: retirement community.
- 58:24Speaker 1: Yeah, do you have time for one more call? Yes,
- 58:30Speaker 1: we're at We're at an hour, but let's I'd love
- 58:32Speaker 1: to do one more.
- 58:33Speaker 3: Okay, this one is a little more sedate. I know
- 58:36Speaker 3: you have said that you've made a lot of new
- 58:37Speaker 3: friends recently, and where Chelsea's always making friends. I thought
- 58:40Speaker 3: this could be a good question. So we've got Dina
- 58:43Speaker 3: calling in. She's sixty three. Dear Chelsea, I'm writing in
- 58:47Speaker 3: because your books and comedic storytelling put me in mind
- 58:50Speaker 3: of a true sage well versed in books and letters
- 58:52Speaker 3: across with Joan Rivers, hope you can help me. I'm
- 58:55Speaker 3: a sixty three year old married woman who over the
- 58:57Speaker 3: last five years lost all my close female friends either
- 59:00Speaker 3: to moving away or like my two sisters in law,
- 59:03Speaker 3: to death. Life without these anchors feels turbulent and lonely.
- 59:07Speaker 3: For the past year, I've been actively trying to make
- 59:09Speaker 3: new friends, doing things that interest me, and hoping to connect.
- 59:12Speaker 3: I'm discouraged that it takes a long time to move
- 59:14Speaker 3: past the small talk. According to Mel Robbins, it takes
- 59:17Speaker 3: two hundred hours to make a close friend, and anecdotally
- 59:20Speaker 3: that tracks I'm daunted, Chelsea.
- 59:22Speaker 1: What would you do?
- 59:23Speaker 3: Dina?
- 59:24Speaker 1: Hi, Dina, Hi, Dina. This is Kathy. Say hi to Kathy.
- 59:28Speaker 4: A frown Kathy.
- 59:29Speaker 7: Oh my god, Kathy Griffin, I love you.
- 59:33Speaker 4: We're friends now, that's your newest friend.
- 59:35Speaker 7: Yep, very much.
- 59:37Speaker 2: I think you have to listen. There is no prescription
- 59:39Speaker 2: to making friends. I think you have to remain open hearted,
- 59:42Speaker 2: open minded. And also the pattern of people that have
- 59:45Speaker 2: been in our lives doesn't necessarily resemble the pattern of
- 59:48Speaker 2: people that are going to be in our lives. So
- 59:50Speaker 2: like you should always look at you know, like what
- 59:53Speaker 2: types of people haven't you been friends with?
- 59:55Speaker 1: You know what I mean?
- 59:56Speaker 2: Think about like opening your spirit more and opening your
- 1:00:00Speaker 2: kind of the way that you look at friendships in
- 1:00:03Speaker 2: a different way because you're at a different stage in
- 1:00:05Speaker 2: your life and you really never know who is going
- 1:00:08Speaker 2: to come into your life. But I don't believe your
- 1:00:10Speaker 2: friendship making years are over. And I'm sorry that both
- 1:00:13Speaker 2: of your sisters in law have passed away, But that's okay.
- 1:00:16Speaker 2: You're still here and you're still vibrant, and you're still alive,
- 1:00:19Speaker 2: and you have an ability to have fun and have
- 1:00:23Speaker 2: things that are in common and whatever your hobbies are,
- 1:00:25Speaker 2: I would just double down on those things that are
- 1:00:27Speaker 2: going to allow you to meet people that are more
- 1:00:29Speaker 2: that are like minded, but also be open to people.
- 1:00:32Speaker 2: Like if you're in a coffee shop or if you're
- 1:00:34Speaker 2: out of wine tasting or whatever it is, like, what
- 1:00:36Speaker 2: do you do for.
- 1:00:37Speaker 1: A good time? What do you do when you want to.
- 1:00:38Speaker 7: Go out all of those things wine tasting, book club?
- 1:00:42Speaker 2: I think go up to people that you normally wouldn't
- 1:00:44Speaker 2: go up to. Also, in those situations, go up to men.
- 1:00:47Speaker 2: It doesn't have to be romantic, Like at your age,
- 1:00:49Speaker 2: you can have a regular relationship with a man that
- 1:00:51Speaker 2: doesn't have to be sexual. You should think outside of
- 1:00:55Speaker 2: the box of what you typically expect your friendships to
- 1:00:57Speaker 2: look like and think like, oh, this would be a
- 1:01:00Speaker 2: nice time.
- 1:01:00Speaker 1: To have in a relationship like this. And who knows
- 1:01:03Speaker 1: what's going to happen in any of those situations.
- 1:01:05Speaker 2: But it sounds like you have all of the things
- 1:01:08Speaker 2: set up for meeting more friends.
- 1:01:10Speaker 7: I think the structure is there, and that's why I
- 1:01:13Speaker 7: wrote to you because I was starting to feel a
- 1:01:15Speaker 7: little daunted and sometimes I feel like I'm dating I'm
- 1:01:19Speaker 7: dating women.
- 1:01:22Speaker 4: Have you considered trying to win beaver Hunt? Have you
- 1:01:27Speaker 4: to do what trying to win beaver Hunt?
- 1:01:30Speaker 2: This is a contest or a competition magazine, Hustler magazine
- 1:01:34Speaker 2: that Cappy interested.
- 1:01:35Speaker 4: And a beaver anyway, sorry, it was a bucket list.
- 1:01:38Speaker 4: Now I'm a big reacher outer, so I will cold
- 1:01:42Speaker 4: call people, i will guilt them. I've done stuff like
- 1:01:48Speaker 4: and this is gonna maybe not this most sound advice,
- 1:01:51Speaker 4: but I've actually met people on TikTok or the old
- 1:01:55Speaker 4: Twitter prior to Elon, I would DM somebody and then
- 1:01:59Speaker 4: end up meeting them in real life. After you know
- 1:02:02Speaker 4: you vet them and correspond with them and FaceTime with them,
- 1:02:05Speaker 4: and you're not being catfished. But how are you a
- 1:02:08Speaker 4: reaching out?
- 1:02:09Speaker 7: So so I'm a little on the shy side, I'll
- 1:02:11Speaker 7: admit it. I'm not out.
- 1:02:13Speaker 4: Yeah, like Chelsea is.
- 1:02:14Speaker 1: Are you on social media and stuff?
- 1:02:17Speaker 7: Very active on LinkedIn?
- 1:02:18Speaker 2: Okay, Well that's a great place to also meet people
- 1:02:20Speaker 2: and reach out. You don't have to be super aggressive.
- 1:02:22Speaker 2: You can just say hi, I love your profile or
- 1:02:24Speaker 2: whatever people say on LinkedIn. I don't know what LinkedIn
- 1:02:26Speaker 2: really is. Is that for business, like for resumes and stuff.
- 1:02:30Speaker 7: For business to business?
- 1:02:32Speaker 5: Yeah?
- 1:02:32Speaker 2: So, but that's also a great way to just be
- 1:02:34Speaker 2: casual with something and be like, oh, hi, I liked
- 1:02:37Speaker 2: your profile. What do you do in this area or
- 1:02:39Speaker 2: do you live you know people that live in your
- 1:02:41Speaker 2: area also, But just broaden the horizons a little bit
- 1:02:44Speaker 2: more than they are and I think that that will
- 1:02:46Speaker 2: yield a bigger, you know, kind of field of options.
- 1:02:51Speaker 7: I like that idea. One of the things I've found
- 1:02:53Speaker 7: is I'm sixty three and people my age aren't like me.
- 1:02:57Speaker 7: So I do think I need to broad my horizons
- 1:03:01Speaker 7: because I'm not a mom, I'm not a grandmom and
- 1:03:03Speaker 7: I'm not right.
- 1:03:04Speaker 2: Yeah, exactly, so you need to find exactly Kathy sixty
- 1:03:08Speaker 2: four say the same thing.
- 1:03:09Speaker 1: So I think.
- 1:03:10Speaker 2: And also you can be friends with people that are younger,
- 1:03:12Speaker 2: you know what I mean, like approach people that are
- 1:03:14Speaker 2: younger that kind of have that sensibility.
- 1:03:17Speaker 1: And I think that's a good point. You're not a mom,
- 1:03:19Speaker 1: you're not you know, you're not all. You're not a grandmother,
- 1:03:21Speaker 1: you're not all of these things. So but but don't
- 1:03:23Speaker 1: lose hope.
- 1:03:24Speaker 2: Be positive and be optimistic because there's a magnetism just
- 1:03:27Speaker 2: by being those things that brings things into your life.
- 1:03:30Speaker 2: So like, don't forget about that. It's positive like positive
- 1:03:33Speaker 2: and happy energy and actually.
- 1:03:35Speaker 1: Being present with people yields good things. It brings good things.
- 1:03:39Speaker 4: I would actually consider hopping on like blue Sky or
- 1:03:42Speaker 4: Threads or even TikTok or Instagram, because sometimes you get
- 1:03:46Speaker 4: to see someone's life so much that if you're comfortable
- 1:03:49Speaker 4: dming them, sometimes it can actually get you a friend
- 1:03:53Speaker 4: that doesn't take two hundred hours.
- 1:03:55Speaker 7: Yeah, what is the beaver thing you mentioned?
- 1:03:59Speaker 2: Oh beaver, you wanted to show her beaver and win
- 1:04:01Speaker 2: a contest because it's red.
- 1:04:02Speaker 4: It's in hustler magazine, and it's a monthly competition, and
- 1:04:06Speaker 4: I have what I think.
- 1:04:08Speaker 1: A monthly competition is her goal.
- 1:04:10Speaker 4: And I believe I'm a real competitor.
- 1:04:12Speaker 1: I believe.
- 1:04:12Speaker 7: So I'm sure yours is beautiful. And I wish you
- 1:04:15Speaker 7: the best of luck.
- 1:04:16Speaker 1: Thank you.
- 1:04:16Speaker 4: Okay, so thank you. She's not going to join, she's
- 1:04:19Speaker 4: not going.
- 1:04:19Speaker 1: To behalf of Kathy. I thank you for that compliment.
- 1:04:22Speaker 4: I thank you as well.
- 1:04:23Speaker 1: Okay, you have your marching orders. You're going to be fine.
- 1:04:26Speaker 2: You've already made three new friends today, so we're your friends.
- 1:04:29Speaker 2: Be positive, put yourself out there. If somebody's not interested
- 1:04:33Speaker 2: in a friendship with you, don't take it personally.
- 1:04:35Speaker 1: Nothing's personal.
- 1:04:36Speaker 4: And if you can go to a place or an
- 1:04:39Speaker 4: event where you are going to be surrounded by people
- 1:04:42Speaker 4: that you wouldn't normally meet, for example, like if you're
- 1:04:46Speaker 4: even if you're not a foodie, go to like a
- 1:04:49Speaker 4: big food festival and you'll just sort of be around
- 1:04:52Speaker 4: people that maybe you wouldn't cross paths with.
- 1:04:55Speaker 7: That's a great idea. Thank you very much. I appreciate it.
- 1:04:59Speaker 2: That's a it's a great idea, Kathy. That is a
- 1:05:02Speaker 2: great idea.
- 1:05:04Speaker 7: It's a great job with this advice show, Chelsea.
- 1:05:08Speaker 1: Oh, well, I just want we just want to help people.
- 1:05:10Speaker 1: We want to I want people to be happy. I
- 1:05:12Speaker 1: want people to be happy and live their best lives. Right, yeah, I.
- 1:05:15Speaker 7: Feel thank you very much, that's why I called in.
- 1:05:18Speaker 1: Okay, give you a bob your thanks so much, Dina,
- 1:05:22Speaker 1: Bye bye, Dina.
- 1:05:24Speaker 4: Oh she's gonna make friends.
- 1:05:25Speaker 3: Oh yeah, for sure.
- 1:05:26Speaker 4: She's so nice. And I liked what you said.
- 1:05:28Speaker 3: About going back to the wall of people you already
- 1:05:31Speaker 3: know and like you know, dming people or you know,
- 1:05:33Speaker 3: texting people. Sometimes people come back into our lives. I
- 1:05:36Speaker 3: thought maybe that friendship has run its course, but people
- 1:05:39Speaker 3: stircle back around.
- 1:05:40Speaker 5: Yep.
- 1:05:40Speaker 2: Yeah, okay, Well that wraps up another episode of Dear
