Speaker 4: We left the door open. You said, come on down. Yeah,
2:53
Speaker 4: they'll be fun. They'll they'll be snacks. You said, there's nothing.
2:56
Speaker 2: There's nothing. Ryan was in charge of snacks. Horrible he failed, horrible,
3:02
Speaker 2: human being failed. His dudey Steve Animal is here you
3:06
Speaker 2: of course, ninety eights of the Mouth. It will be
3:08
Speaker 2: live that night at five Street. More than that coming
3:09
Speaker 2: up a little later on. Who's this cast of characters
3:11
Speaker 2: you have?
3:11
Speaker 4: I have Adam here from Mountain Stage and John Q
3:14
Speaker 4: from Fife. So it's kind of a party. We have
3:17
Speaker 4: a party going on every Thursday we're down there. Actually,
3:20
Speaker 4: Fife is a great place just to go anyway. However,
3:23
Speaker 4: tonight tonight is the night Mountain Stage invades Fife Street
3:27
Speaker 4: with me.
3:27
Speaker 2: All right, Adam Harris from Mountain Stage. He's he's no
3:31
Speaker 2: stranger to the show. He's been on many many times
3:33
Speaker 2: ya Bucks probably probably among other things, among other things.
3:37
Speaker 2: All right, so Adam from Mountain Stage.
3:39
Speaker 5: Good morning, how you doing man?
3:40
Speaker 6: Well, good man Lea the Mountain meets Mountain Stage tonight
3:43
Speaker 6: at five Street Brewery, first time ever.
3:46
Speaker 2: Yeah so and John Q from five Streets here, how
3:48
Speaker 2: you doing man?
3:49
Speaker 1: Great?
3:49
Speaker 2: Good morning gentlemen. You're well, that's that's that's a bit
3:53
Speaker 2: of us.
3:53
Speaker 5: He was talking to me.
3:54
Speaker 2: That's a bit of a stretch. So before we talk
3:58
Speaker 2: about how what's gonna happen with out and mety Mountain Stage, John,
4:01
Speaker 2: you want to talk about it for people that don't know,
4:03
Speaker 2: tell us about five straight now, man, Yeah, what's the
4:04
Speaker 2: whole what's the mission statement? As they say, Yeah.
4:07
Speaker 7: To provide great beer, great food for our friends and
4:10
Speaker 7: neighbors downtown and make sure we have a space for
4:12
Speaker 7: the community. It doesn't get much more community based than
4:15
Speaker 7: having Mountain Stage and ninety eight point seven the Mountain
4:17
Speaker 7: at Fife on the same night.
4:19
Speaker 1: Yes.
4:20
Speaker 2: So, how long has five Street been open? About three
4:22
Speaker 2: and a half years. May is going to be our
4:23
Speaker 2: fourth birthday. What led you to want to open this place?
4:28
Speaker 7: Well, I had four great partners from the area, Derek
4:30
Speaker 7: and Lisa Godwin, Jody Drags, Josh Dodd. All had a
4:34
Speaker 7: very clear vision of what they wanted to build. They
4:36
Speaker 7: just needed somebody on the food and beer side. They
4:38
Speaker 7: brought me in. We've had an incredible three and a
4:41
Speaker 7: half years. It's been a blast.
4:42
Speaker 2: All right. Now we talk about the beer in a moment,
4:44
Speaker 2: I want to talk about the food. What are some
4:45
Speaker 2: of the specialty food items you get there?
4:47
Speaker 7: Yes, we do elevated grilled cheese. You got twelve different
4:50
Speaker 7: kinds of grilled cheese on the menu right now, Yes,
4:52
Speaker 7: twelve different kinds, Yes, sir. What's the most exotic? One
4:55
Speaker 7: of the twelve, most exhaustion most exotic?
4:58
Speaker 2: Probably the crab Rangoon crab ran goodon grilled cheese.
5:01
Speaker 5: Yep, Okay, Dave's eyebrows just went off his head.
5:04
Speaker 2: You had me at both crabrand gooon and grilled cheese. Yeah,
5:07
Speaker 2: they they Saint your Mammall's grilled cheese.
5:10
Speaker 7: Yeah, that one has a cultish following. People get stuck
5:13
Speaker 7: on that one.
5:13
Speaker 5: What would you say is the most popular one?
5:15
Speaker 2: Black Friday, Friday Friday? Yeah, Turkey, spinach, cranberry mayo. Wow. Nice,
5:22
Speaker 2: nice talk about the beer selection you have down there.
5:24
Speaker 7: Yeah, twelve fresh local beers. Doesn't get any more fresh
5:28
Speaker 7: than that. Home to animal Ale, that's right, one of
5:32
Speaker 7: the only loggers we've ever made. We're kind of an
5:33
Speaker 7: ale place. Loggers take a little longer, but animal Ale
5:37
Speaker 7: one of the slowest to make and one of the
5:38
Speaker 7: quickest to sell.
5:40
Speaker 2: The first Steve Animals one of the slowest.
5:46
Speaker 5: The odds he drinks fast.
5:48
Speaker 2: All right, all right, So let's talk about this, what's
5:51
Speaker 2: going to happen? I mean, as I said, you know,
5:53
Speaker 2: a couple of times a month, we're down at five Street,
5:56
Speaker 2: you know, broadcasting live for Thursday Thursday, we call it
5:59
Speaker 2: with the Mountain But why the partnership with Mountain Stage.
6:02
Speaker 2: Exactly what are you gonna be doing down? What are
6:04
Speaker 2: you gonna be doing?
6:05
Speaker 6: So, yeah, we reached out to John just because, you know,
6:07
Speaker 6: looking to get the word out about Mountain Stage. We've
6:09
Speaker 6: got like eleven shows on stale right now, most of
6:11
Speaker 6: them are in the Charleston area, and so just working
6:13
Speaker 6: to get in front of the people in a way
6:15
Speaker 6: that is not a sponsored Facebook post. And so we
6:19
Speaker 6: wanted to be out in the community, help bring some
6:21
Speaker 6: people into five because January is typically a slow month
6:24
Speaker 6: in the restaurant business. And so we reached out to
6:26
Speaker 6: John Q. We got John Ingram and friends. Our friend
6:29
Speaker 6: John who works at Mountain Stage. An incredible bassist. A
6:32
Speaker 6: lot of people know him from the Bob Thompson band,
6:34
Speaker 6: member of Fletcher's Grove. He's done tons of great tributes
6:36
Speaker 6: here in town, including at Live on the Levee. And
6:38
Speaker 6: so John is bringing Bud Carroll and guitar Jordan price
6:41
Speaker 6: is on keyboards, and of course, since it's John Ingram
6:44
Speaker 6: and friends, you never know who's going to stop in
6:46
Speaker 6: and jam. Or we've invited the Mountain Stage band Larry
6:48
Speaker 6: Gross I think is going to make his way down
6:50
Speaker 6: Nice for a chance to, you know, just meet and
6:53
Speaker 6: greet with the public, and then we're going to share
6:55
Speaker 6: some of the info in our live shows.
6:56
Speaker 5: We do a couple giveaways.
6:58
Speaker 6: We've got some merchandise available as well, and we're running
7:01
Speaker 6: a deal on our twenty twenty six calendars.
7:03
Speaker 5: So if you don't have your desk calendar yet for
7:04
Speaker 5: this year, we're gonna have an opportunity for you.
7:06
Speaker 2: All right, talk about some of the upcoming shows you
7:08
Speaker 2: haven't mount oh Man.
7:09
Speaker 6: Well, this weekend we're in Morgantown with Don Was who
7:12
Speaker 6: was a collaborator with Bob Weir. We're in for a
7:13
Speaker 6: very special show this weekend, and then this next to.
7:17
Speaker 2: The we just lost last week.
7:19
Speaker 6: Yeah yeah, and then our first show home is on
7:24
Speaker 6: January twenty fifth. Really cool Nashville songwriter called Cam who
7:28
Speaker 6: had a couple of songs that were co writes on
7:31
Speaker 6: the Beyonce Country album that came out a couple of
7:33
Speaker 6: years ago. She's a wonderful singer and songwriter. Also Peter
7:37
Speaker 6: Bradley Adams, Jill Andrews from down in Nashville, and a
7:39
Speaker 6: West Virginia songwriter called Darren Hackward is going to be
7:42
Speaker 6: on the show. That's all the twenty fifth of January
7:46
Speaker 6: and then February fifteenth, we have a show and we're
7:47
Speaker 6: going to actually do a giveaway tonight at Fife Street Brewing.
7:50
Speaker 6: We're gonna if you sign up for our email list,
7:52
Speaker 6: one lucky winner is going to get a gift certificate,
7:54
Speaker 6: I believe for like the Valentine's Day dinner at Fife
7:57
Speaker 6: on Saturday, and then come to tickets, they get tickets
7:59
Speaker 6: to come to Mountain Stage Sunday the fifteenth.
8:02
Speaker 5: So we're gonna do a Valentine's weekend giveaway.
8:04
Speaker 2: All right, talk about Adam. What you know, Mountain Stage
8:08
Speaker 2: has been around for a long time and it is
8:10
Speaker 2: a true gem to West Virginia and we've taken to
8:13
Speaker 2: I mean taken to the nation, taken to the world,
8:16
Speaker 2: but there's a lot of people in West Virginia that
8:17
Speaker 2: may not have actually taken in that's true stage show.
8:21
Speaker 2: And the thing about what I'll say about Mountain stages.
8:25
Speaker 2: Is there are no matter what your type of music is,
8:29
Speaker 2: it's been done at some point at Mountain Stage. Is
8:32
Speaker 2: there any type of any genre music that you can
8:35
Speaker 2: think of in your time? They are even you know,
8:37
Speaker 2: preceding you that you can think of that's not been
8:39
Speaker 2: done a Mountain Well.
8:40
Speaker 6: I mean, we have not done a ton of hip
8:41
Speaker 6: hop or rap on the show, although we did bring
8:43
Speaker 6: Galactic on, which is like a New Orleans funk band
8:46
Speaker 6: I know John is very familiar with but they brought
8:48
Speaker 6: MC life with them and he rapped on a few songs,
8:51
Speaker 6: and so that was that was a big thing for us.
8:53
Speaker 6: But yeah, generally, you'd be hard pressed to look at
8:55
Speaker 6: the cannon of American music of the last thirty or
8:58
Speaker 6: forty years and not see someone on the list of
9:00
Speaker 6: Mountain Stage. I mean, there's a few who haven't graced
9:02
Speaker 6: our stage, Bob Dylan, Paul Simon, Neil Young, Joni Mitchell,
9:06
Speaker 6: but a lot of people of that ilk have been
9:08
Speaker 6: on the show over the years, and of course Larry
9:11
Speaker 6: Gross was the co founder and the host for all
9:13
Speaker 6: those years. This is our forty third season of Mountain Stage. Yeah,
9:17
Speaker 6: and you know what, we've received support from the legislature
9:20
Speaker 6: all of those years. We do have a line item
9:22
Speaker 6: in the state's budget to help us continue to do
9:24
Speaker 6: Mountain Stage, and I hope that support's going to continue
9:27
Speaker 6: into twenty twenty six. But yeah, So we record a
9:30
Speaker 6: radio show in front of a ticketed audience, and so
9:32
Speaker 6: a lot of people in Charleston sometimes it's something they
9:34
Speaker 6: go to. But around the country it's on two hundred
9:37
Speaker 6: and seventy public radio stations, so most of the people
9:39
Speaker 6: in the world think of it as something that they
9:41
Speaker 6: can hear on the radio. And then every week we
9:43
Speaker 6: have people traveling from all over the country. I think
9:46
Speaker 6: about twenty five percent of our traffic comes from outside
9:49
Speaker 6: the state of West Virginia of our ticket sales, and
9:51
Speaker 6: people come here to see the thing that they've only
9:53
Speaker 6: listened to on the radio.
9:54
Speaker 5: So it's a wonderful driver for tourism.
9:56
Speaker 2: It is it is, and it brings a lot of money.
9:59
Speaker 2: And I know that may not have been the initial
10:01
Speaker 2: driver behind why this thing was created all those years ago. However, however,
10:05
Speaker 2: it's an added benefit because it brings a lot of
10:07
Speaker 2: money into the Charleston air and into West Virginia. But
10:10
Speaker 2: Dave Island Show on five. Eedy Live is broad to You,
10:11
Speaker 2: a part about Live Healthy West Virginia presented by WVU Madison,
10:14
Speaker 2: a podcast promoting healthier lifestyles than to be on the state.
10:17
Speaker 2: Check out of latest episodes wv metronews dot com. Unto
10:20
Speaker 2: the podcast menu, Animal had a text here for you
10:23
Speaker 2: that so so animal Ale is a logger and maybe
10:25
Speaker 2: John youwant animal doesn't know what it is. He just
10:28
Speaker 2: knows that it tastes good, So it is a lagger.
10:30
Speaker 2: Is it is a logger? Yeah?
10:31
Speaker 7: And the hundreds and hundreds of styles of beer there's
10:33
Speaker 7: really can come down to two categories, ales and loggers.
10:35
Speaker 7: It depends on the kind of yeast used. Ales are
10:38
Speaker 7: just a much quicker style. We have a relatively small brewery,
10:41
Speaker 7: so we almost exclusively make ales.
10:43
Speaker 4: It's a Marsin by the way, Okay, very nice beer.
10:47
Speaker 4: How long does it take to make beer? I mean,
10:49
Speaker 4: I know absolutely nothing about it other than drinking it.
10:52
Speaker 4: So exactly how long does it take to make our beer?
10:56
Speaker 7: A batch of our beer is anywhere from twenty five
10:58
Speaker 7: to thirty days, which is a really you know, relatively
11:01
Speaker 7: quick styles. But most of your loggers, a lot of
11:04
Speaker 7: your American light loggers, are more like months that takes
11:07
Speaker 7: in the fermentation process.
11:09
Speaker 4: That's why animal ale is so special like me.
11:12
Speaker 2: Yeah, and it's aged like you age joke. It would
11:19
Speaker 2: be as long as you're older than I am, you
11:21
Speaker 2: will continue to get the age jokes. We're talking to
11:23
Speaker 2: Steve Annibal, John Q and Adam Harris. I want to
11:27
Speaker 2: ask you, Adam, and I don't want to get too
11:28
Speaker 2: serious on this, because well we've been not you and
11:30
Speaker 2: I are never serious.
11:31
Speaker 1: But but and I.
11:32
Speaker 2: Don't want to turn it political either, But but I
11:34
Speaker 2: do want to say there have been a lot of
11:36
Speaker 2: concerns out of the nation's capital because of cuts and
11:40
Speaker 2: things of that nature. It has Mountain Stage been impacted
11:42
Speaker 2: by that or do you anticipate you will be.
11:44
Speaker 6: That's a great question, and thank you for asking, and
11:47
Speaker 6: I'll try to speak within my means and my authority.
11:50
Speaker 6: But yeah, there were some cuts to the Corporation for
11:53
Speaker 6: Public Broadcasting, which brings you, you know, helps fund a
11:56
Speaker 6: lot of the shows that you think of as being
11:58
Speaker 6: from PBS and also from n p R. Mountain Stage
12:02
Speaker 6: does not get CPB money directly. West Virginia Public Broadcasting
12:06
Speaker 6: does or did, but we didn't receive funding directly from them. However,
12:11
Speaker 6: the stations that carry Mountain Stage use CPB money to
12:15
Speaker 6: pay for programs like hours, and so it affects our
12:17
Speaker 6: stations that carry the show. And as I mentioned, there's
12:19
Speaker 6: two hundred and seventy or so, and so the good
12:22
Speaker 6: news is NPR came up with a package for the
12:25
Speaker 6: stations to They gave reduced fees as long as they
12:29
Speaker 6: maintained their current programming, and so instead of having a
12:33
Speaker 6: sharp drop off in stations, which may have had to
12:35
Speaker 6: happen for those that were more financially strained, they were
12:39
Speaker 6: able to accept a lower rate as long as they
12:41
Speaker 6: keep carrying the program. And so MPR really helped prevent
12:44
Speaker 6: a possible drop off in stations for us in that regard,
12:47
Speaker 6: and I'm really glad they did because that was my
12:48
Speaker 6: number one fear is that Mountain Stage would be a
12:51
Speaker 6: first priority to cut just because we're a music show
12:53
Speaker 6: where two hours you can get a volunteer to come
12:55
Speaker 6: in and maybe play rect needle drop music for two
12:58
Speaker 6: hours and save that money. But thankfully we have maintained
13:03
Speaker 6: all our carriage and I hope that's going to continue.
13:05
Speaker 6: We signed a new three year deal with NPR for distribution.
13:07
Speaker 2: Awesome.
13:08
Speaker 5: Yeah, and that was another thing I was really encouraged by.
13:10
Speaker 5: And so they like what Mountain.
13:11
Speaker 6: Stage does for them, which is diversifies the programming that
13:13
Speaker 6: they offer. And as you mentioned, we've had every style
13:15
Speaker 6: of music that you can have, and if you don't
13:17
Speaker 6: like something on Mountain Stage, tune in fifteen minutes later
13:19
Speaker 6: you're going to hear something different, you know. And I
13:21
Speaker 6: think that's that formula has served us very well.
13:23
Speaker 2: All right, So back to the animal, Ale says, so
13:26
Speaker 2: why call it an ale if it's a logger for
13:28
Speaker 2: the alliteration?
13:29
Speaker 5: Come on, people, the alliteration. Yeah, animal marketing not a solution,
13:33
Speaker 5: that's right.
13:34
Speaker 2: We're trying to get buttson sins here soon, ye all right?
13:37
Speaker 2: And it kicked all right. So you'll start at six
13:39
Speaker 2: o'clock tonight with the live broadcast on ninety eight seven
13:41
Speaker 2: a month and wild a wonderful classic rock and Adam John,
13:43
Speaker 2: you guys are going to be down there, and again
13:45
Speaker 2: it's going to be big old jam session. John Ingram
13:48
Speaker 2: is going to be there, maybe some others in there
13:50
Speaker 2: as well. And that's as a and as listeners hear
13:52
Speaker 2: me say this all the time, guys, As a non musician,
13:55
Speaker 2: there is nothing that I like more than a good
13:57
Speaker 2: jam session. Definitely, I just set back. I can't even clasp,
14:00
Speaker 2: but I just set back. And when I did the
14:01
Speaker 2: Jewish Christmas Spectacular, you know last month with Pushkin, I
14:04
Speaker 2: had to aim a steel band in here and Alaysha
14:07
Speaker 2: was in here joining in, and I added nothing to
14:10
Speaker 2: the program other than the sexiness and charm to just
14:14
Speaker 2: set to, just set back here and go. Man. I
14:16
Speaker 2: like that, you know when people just set around a jam.
14:19
Speaker 2: I love it.
14:19
Speaker 5: Nothing like live music.
14:20
Speaker 6: I mean, just being in the room when it's being
14:22
Speaker 6: played is way different than hearing it on the radio
14:24
Speaker 6: or listening to it, god forbid on the little speakers
14:26
Speaker 6: of your phone. You know, like being in the room
14:28
Speaker 6: with the people who are making the music and experiencing
14:30
Speaker 6: it along with your fellow music lovers.
14:32
Speaker 5: There's nothing like it. That's the genuine experience.
14:34
Speaker 2: Having some tonight, some great food and some great to
14:38
Speaker 2: drink as well. That can only help you. All right,
14:41
Speaker 2: all right, I highly recommend it. All Right, an Animal,
14:43
Speaker 2: you'll have the Mountain, we'll have the prize vault there
14:45
Speaker 2: so you'll have different giveaways in.
14:47
Speaker 4: Our limited edition Animal t shirts. We will have flowers
14:52
Speaker 4: from arts flowers. I will raid the prize closet and
14:54
Speaker 4: your desk to give away some free stuff.
14:56
Speaker 5: Nice.
14:57
Speaker 2: Yeah, well, you know, my desk has a lot of
14:58
Speaker 2: Dallas Cowboys stuff on it, so I don't know if
15:01
Speaker 2: that's going to be a big hit with most of
15:02
Speaker 2: the people there. We'll drop it off somewhere, all right,
15:06
Speaker 2: all right, it starts to night at six o'clock. Again.
15:08
Speaker 2: It is Mountain Stage meets the Mountain at five Street.
15:11
Speaker 2: Give us the address, jown one to eighty Summer Streets,
15:14
Speaker 2: right across some slack plaza. And I love everything that's
15:16
Speaker 2: going on down there because it's become like not even
15:19
Speaker 2: when we're not there, there's always there's such a vibe
15:22
Speaker 2: going on down there. I mean with all the different
15:25
Speaker 2: places and you know, the different restaurants and so on
15:27
Speaker 2: and so forth.
15:28
Speaker 1: It's because I'm there too.
15:29
Speaker 2: Yeah, yeah, it's because you're there.
15:30
Speaker 6: I do want to say one thing, just because the
15:32
Speaker 6: the Animal mentioned it this morning. The Summer Street garage
15:34
Speaker 6: is free and open after hours, so no trouble parking.
15:37
Speaker 6: You can just pull right into the garage walk. It's
15:39
Speaker 6: not even half a block. It's probably fifty steps over
15:41
Speaker 6: to bundle up and walk.
15:42
Speaker 2: Into that's right, that's right, free, all right, guys, appreciate
15:45

18:49
Speaker 11: Good morning, Dave. Thanks so much for having me.
18:51
Speaker 2: Thank you for being here. And I know you rearrange

19:00
Speaker 11: Hey, listen, I won't rearrange anything anything you need, Dave,
19:03
Speaker 11: I'm here for you, but I appreciate the opportunity to
19:05
Speaker 11: come on today. So I was more than happy. I'm
19:07
Speaker 11: actually in a meeting right now, stuck out, and I said,
19:10
Speaker 11: I'll be back. I gotta I gotta talk to my brother.
19:12
Speaker 12: Dave.
19:12
Speaker 2: Well, I appreciate it. So all right, before we get
19:15
Speaker 2: to the dinner, I want to haven't had you on
19:17
Speaker 2: the show, And while what's what's making news in Putnam
19:20
Speaker 2: County these days? I know we've got an influx of
19:22
Speaker 2: people moving in and business is opening up and so
19:24
Speaker 2: on and so forth. Can give us stay overall on
19:26
Speaker 2: Puttnam these days?
19:27
Speaker 11: Yeah, we do. We've got a lot. We've got a
19:29
Speaker 11: lot of new small businesses popping up. You'll you'll see
19:33
Speaker 11: some new bakery in the area, Sugar Maples, So if
19:36
Speaker 11: you're looking for a sweet treat, we've got that. In
19:40
Speaker 11: some of our larger retail spaces, you'll see some National
19:45
Speaker 11: stores going in side below. Things like that are going
19:48
Speaker 11: to be opening up pretty soon. So we've got a
19:50
Speaker 11: lot of stuff going on, and I think over the
19:52
Speaker 11: next year you'll see some great new additions to the
19:55
Speaker 11: valley as well.
19:56
Speaker 2: All Right, Puttingham is the place to be, all right,
19:59
Speaker 2: so let's talk about give us the date and tell
20:02
Speaker 2: us what's going to go on there and tickets and
20:03
Speaker 2: so on and so forth.
20:05
Speaker 11: Yeah, we are thrilled. They are annual dinner is always
20:08
Speaker 11: one of our most favorite events that we host. Is
20:12
Speaker 11: the largest networking event here in Putnam County. It is
20:14
Speaker 11: going to be held on January thirtieth at Valley Park.
20:18
Speaker 11: We are so thrilled to be able to have that
20:20
Speaker 11: evening to celebrate all the great successes of our chamber members.
20:24
Speaker 11: We're over five hundred members now strong and so having
20:27
Speaker 11: that opportunity to celebrate our business community is great. We'll
20:30
Speaker 11: also be given away our Mayle Lester Community Service Award
20:33
Speaker 11: that day as well as our Putnam Crew Young Leader
20:35
Speaker 11: Award and tickets are available as well as sponsorships. Tickets
20:39
Speaker 11: are one hundred and fifty dollars per person and you
20:41
Speaker 11: can purchase them on the Chambers website. Or if you
20:44
Speaker 11: are interested in sponsoring and want to be a part
20:46
Speaker 11: of that celebration in that capacity, you just give us
20:51
Speaker 11: a call out to office and we'll get you set.
20:52
Speaker 8: Up with that.
20:54
Speaker 2: What is the deadline if somebody wants to be a sponsor?
20:57
Speaker 2: Because I know the date's coming up, and you got
20:59
Speaker 2: signage and programs and things of that nature so to
21:02
Speaker 2: contend with. So what would be the absolute drop dead
21:06
Speaker 2: time for if somebody wants to be a sponsor?
21:08
Speaker 11: If you want to be a sponsor, I'd love to
21:10
Speaker 11: have it today or tomorrow, but I can take it
21:13
Speaker 11: up until Wednesday of next week.
21:15
Speaker 2: Okay, it's on Wednesday of next week. What about for
21:17
Speaker 2: tickets for sponsor? And the reason I said bring this
21:19
Speaker 2: up about tickets because as you said, I attend the
21:21
Speaker 2: dinner every year and half for like the last you know,
21:24
Speaker 2: ten eleven years or so ever since I've lived in
21:26
Speaker 2: Putnham County, and I mean it sells out. I mean
21:29
Speaker 2: there's not a seat to be had.
21:31
Speaker 11: Yeah, that's true, there is not a seat to be had.
21:34
Speaker 11: We do still have some options though, a lot of
21:35
Speaker 11: people like to get their tickets this week and next week.
21:38
Speaker 11: So the ticket deadline is next Friday, So a week
21:41
Speaker 11: from tomorrow.
21:42
Speaker 2: Now you got mine taking care.
21:43
Speaker 11: Of right, You're all good. You're on the list.
21:46
Speaker 2: I'm on the like the waiting list. Or so I
21:48
Speaker 2: want to talk about this. I want to talk to
21:50
Speaker 2: this Mail Leicester award that you give. That's like the
21:53
Speaker 2: top award that somebody in Putnham County can get. Who
21:56
Speaker 2: was Mail Lester.
21:58
Speaker 11: Mail Lester was one of the founding members of the
22:00
Speaker 11: Putnam County Chamber of Commerce, and he was so influential
22:03
Speaker 11: in our business community back in the late seventies and
22:06
Speaker 11: early eighties when the chamber started. And so that is
22:10
Speaker 11: he was, you know, the epitome of a community minded
22:14
Speaker 11: chamber member, a community you know leader, and so he
22:18
Speaker 11: he was one of the founding members of the Chamber.
22:20
Speaker 11: And so every year we honor him by giving out
22:23
Speaker 11: a by giving out a Community Service Award in his honor.
22:27
Speaker 11: And yes, it is the top award you can get
22:29
Speaker 11: in Putnam County for the business community. And so if
22:33
Speaker 11: you we are still taking nominations for that until tomorrow.
22:37
Speaker 11: So if you would like to nominate somebody, you just
22:41
Speaker 11: shoot me an email or give me a call and
22:43
Speaker 11: I'll let you know how to make that nomination.
22:47
Speaker 2: And one of the things I love and you we're
22:48
Speaker 2: talking with Ashley offered Glances from the Putnam County Chamber
22:51
Speaker 2: of Commerce. One thing that I really really love about
22:52
Speaker 2: what you folks do there is that you always celebrate
22:56
Speaker 2: young people, young entrepreneurs, young folks that are doing good
23:00
Speaker 2: things in the community because sometimes, you know, when you
23:02
Speaker 2: think about events like this, it can kind of be
23:05
Speaker 2: like me an old person kind of a thing. So
23:07
Speaker 2: you guys go above and beyond to celebrate young leaders
23:10
Speaker 2: in Putnam County. Talk about that we do.
23:13
Speaker 6: So.
23:13
Speaker 11: We have a young professionals group called Putnam Crew. It
23:16
Speaker 11: was previously known as Generation Putnam and one of the
23:19
Speaker 11: things that we did many many years ago was create
23:24
Speaker 11: an award to recognize some of our young and rising
23:28
Speaker 11: leaders in the community. We know that, you know, Putnam
23:30
Speaker 11: County is a great place to live, to work, and
23:32
Speaker 11: to raise your family, and to show that we're investing
23:36
Speaker 11: in folks when they're you know, just starting out in
23:38
Speaker 11: their career. Really for the long term, mix them, you know,
23:42
Speaker 11: shows who our future leaders are going to be. And
23:45
Speaker 11: so every year, for the last I believe this is
23:47
Speaker 11: that award is about twelve years old. Now we have
23:51
Speaker 11: been acknowledging one of our young and rising leaders here
23:54
Speaker 11: in Putnam County and so that list is filled with
23:57
Speaker 11: some really great people that you still see in leadership
23:59
Speaker 11: roles today.
24:00
Speaker 2: That's good stuff, Ashley offered. Glance from the Putnam County
24:02
Speaker 2: Chamber of Commerce is here? Or what about the entertainment?
24:04
Speaker 2: That's always a big deal. I know sometimes you like
24:06
Speaker 2: to try to keep it under wraps. So if that's
24:08
Speaker 2: that's the case this year, I don't want to give
24:10
Speaker 2: it too much away. But what can you tell us
24:12
Speaker 2: about the entertainment.
24:12
Speaker 11: I can tell you that you just need to be
24:14
Speaker 11: ready to shake, rattle and roll.
24:16
Speaker 2: Shake, rattle and roll. That's all you need to know,
24:18
Speaker 2: right right, That's all you need to know. And because
24:20
Speaker 2: I'm always interested in this, talk about the food.
24:23
Speaker 11: Oh the food, Fireside Grill is going to be there again.
24:26
Speaker 11: We're gonna have some delicious food. We haven't quite finalized
24:28
Speaker 11: all all the menu items yet, but I can promise
24:31
Speaker 11: you that you will.
24:33
Speaker 2: You will love it all right again, give us your
24:35
Speaker 2: phone number, website and all this stuff. Then we'll let
24:37
Speaker 2: you get back to the meeting that you left hanging.
24:40
Speaker 11: It's okay. They don't need me, you know. I'm just
24:42
Speaker 11: there for the joke. Get to tell the jokes. The
24:45
Speaker 11: phone number for the Chamber is three O four seven
24:48
Speaker 11: six five one zero, or you can find out more
24:50
Speaker 11: information on our website Putnam Chamber dot org.
24:53
Speaker 2: All right, Ashley offered Glance, the executive director of the
24:56
Speaker 2: Putnam County Chamber of Commerce. Get back to your meeting
24:58
Speaker 2: and we'll talk soon. Thanks a lot, talk toon.
25:00
Speaker 11: Thanks again for having me.
25:01
Speaker 2: Have a great day, right you as well. Twenty eight
25:03
Speaker 2: minutes away from Tampa, Day Island showing five dye line
25:05
Speaker 2: is brought to you apart by Morgadi Morgan with more
25:08
Speaker 2: than twenty billion dollars recovered. They believe that when you're injured,
25:10
Speaker 2: you deserve more. Morgative Mortgan, America's largest injury law firm.
25:13
Speaker 2: And I met that what I said, and talking about
25:15
Speaker 2: the folks with the Putnam County Chamber, I love the
25:16
Speaker 2: fact that there is an emphasis placed on younger folks there.
25:21
Speaker 2: They have done that for some time. As she said,
25:24
Speaker 2: I think for like the last twelve years or so
25:25
Speaker 2: when they give a Young Leader award, And to be fair,
25:30
Speaker 2: I think the folks in Charleston do a great job.
25:31
Speaker 2: Charleston Airy Lights and other organizations such as that do
25:34
Speaker 2: a great job as well getting younger people involved, because
25:37
Speaker 2: I mean, let's face it, I'm old and we've got
25:40
Speaker 2: to get young people involved in these organizations and in
25:43
Speaker 2: the business community and as far as the businesses go.
25:45
Speaker 2: As somebody who lives in the Day's Valley area, I
25:48
Speaker 2: can tell you every time I turn around, there's a
25:49
Speaker 2: new ribbon cutting for another business that's coming in. There's
25:54
Speaker 2: some quality restaurants that are coming in. There's some national
25:57
Speaker 2: chains that are coming in. It is a great, great mix. Again,
26:01
Speaker 2: I kind of like to be the cheerleader, you know,
26:03
Speaker 2: for Putnam County since I've lived there for the past.
26:06
Speaker 3: See.
26:06
Speaker 2: Next month will be Math, Dave Math. Next month will
26:10
Speaker 2: be about twelve years I think, is that right, twelve, fourteen,
26:15
Speaker 2: thirty or something like that. I don't know. But anyway,
26:18
Speaker 2: they do a lot of great things at Putnam County.
26:19
Speaker 2: It's a great place to be and it's not just
26:21
Speaker 2: a bedroom community as a lot of people think. You know,
26:24
Speaker 2: between Charleston and Huntington, there's a lot of exciting things
26:26
Speaker 2: going on there, so do appreciate. Ashley offered glance from

32:15
Speaker 2: WVRC Media Charleston and Union Mission invite you to our
32:18
Speaker 2: annual sock drop, happening one week from to day next
32:21
Speaker 2: Thursday on our parking lot eleven eleven Virginia Street, dast
32:23
Speaker 2: And Charleston. We'll start at seven in the morning, go
32:25
Speaker 2: to six pm in the evening. You know the way
32:27
Speaker 2: these drops happen. We collect food, We collect turkey, so
32:31
Speaker 2: at this time it socks. And the reason behind socks
32:34
Speaker 2: is because what we have learned is is that the
32:37
Speaker 2: number one most requested item for those who need assistance
32:40
Speaker 2: in this sort of thing is warm socks. And you
32:44
Speaker 2: can get some great deals on them at your local
32:46
Speaker 2: discount stores. The only thing we ask is that they're
32:49
Speaker 2: new socks. We don't want your smelly ones that you've
32:51
Speaker 2: had since the Carter administration, you know, with some holes
32:54
Speaker 2: in them and things of that nature. We appreciate the thought,
32:56
Speaker 2: but we'd like to have new ones. You can drop
32:58
Speaker 2: off a pair of soft you can drop off two
33:01
Speaker 2: or three boxes of socks, which is what we had
33:03
Speaker 2: last year. Whatever you want to do, and we'll start
33:08
Speaker 2: things on the parking lot at eleven eleven where we
33:11
Speaker 2: are seven am. Next Thursday morning we'll go to six
33:15
Speaker 2: and again we're working with Union Mission on that. We
33:17
Speaker 2: can also accept cash or check donations as well. You
33:20
Speaker 2: guys are the greatest listeners in the world. Anything we're doing,
33:24
Speaker 2: from this to the turkey drop, to the snack attack
33:29

33:34
Speaker 2: you know, the the when we collect the school supplies
33:37
Speaker 2: to you guys always come out in force for us
33:39
Speaker 2: and we do appreciate that. So it's next Thursday, one
33:43
Speaker 2: week from the day seven am until six pm on
33:46

33:59
Speaker 2: to three five zero zero Texas Dave. I watched the
34:02
Speaker 2: City of the State yesterday. You could go back several
34:05
Speaker 2: years with different governors and basically the same speech. After
34:08
Speaker 2: their terms are over the state. It's pretty much in
34:10
Speaker 2: the shape as when they started. Tex says the Punky QB. Yeah,
34:16
Speaker 2: that's Jim McMahon. He was known as the Punk. And
34:19
Speaker 2: you know, I will watch a documentary. I've told you
34:22
Speaker 2: this bore about myself. I will watch a documentary and
34:24
Speaker 2: just about anybody, especially entertainment, you know where it's music, actors,
34:28
Speaker 2: but especially sports. I live for the thirty for thirties
34:30
Speaker 2: on ESPN, Things that Nature. I watched one a couple
34:33
Speaker 2: of weeks ago and it was a few years old,
34:35
Speaker 2: and it was about the making of the Super Bowl Shuffle.
34:38
Speaker 2: That they did remember that song. The Bears had that
34:41
Speaker 2: incredible run. They went fifteen to one of the nineteen
34:43
Speaker 2: eighty five season, beat my Dallas Cowboys by the way
34:47
Speaker 2: forty four to nothing on national television that year, went
34:50
Speaker 2: on to beat the Patriots in the super Bowl in
34:52
Speaker 2: January of nineteen eighty six. But they recorded the song
34:57
Speaker 2: the Super Bowl Shuffle after they had gotten beaten for
35:01
Speaker 2: their only loss of the season on Monday Night Football
35:04
Speaker 2: by the Miami Dolphins. And if you ever get a
35:07
Speaker 2: chance to watch the documentary on the making of the
35:10
Speaker 2: Super Bowl Shuffle, it's fascinating. I mean it really really
35:14
Speaker 2: is the way that they did it because none of
35:15
Speaker 2: the very few people on the team could dance. And
35:19
Speaker 2: not to spoil it if you decide to watch it,
35:21
Speaker 2: but Jim McMahon and Walter Peyton did not want to
35:25
Speaker 2: do it after they agreed to do it, but then
35:28
Speaker 2: after the Bears lost that game, but they both said, hey,
35:32
Speaker 2: we just got embarrassed on Monday Night football. We are
35:35
Speaker 2: not going to do this. So the other guys talked
35:38
Speaker 2: them into it and they actually had to be added later.
35:41
Speaker 2: So if you watch the video of Super Bowl Shuffle,
35:44
Speaker 2: and they did all that for charity for some I
35:46
Speaker 2: think with some homeless organizations there in the Integrated Chicago
35:49
Speaker 2: Land they did that. They did that video and it
35:53
Speaker 2: was really fascinating because they actually added them later. Peyton
35:57
Speaker 2: and McMahon were not there when they filmed it. So
36:00
Speaker 2: I don't know whether Jim will get into that on
36:01
Speaker 2: his interview with Carl Lee and Lisa and Hollis tonight
36:03
Speaker 2: or not, but we'll check it out. You can catch
36:05
Speaker 2: that interview with Jim mc mahon coming up the night
36:06
Speaker 2: and Let's talk at seven o'clock. Texa's favorite Jim McMahon memory.
36:10
Speaker 2: He backed up Brett Farv when when the Packers won
36:13
Speaker 2: the Super Bowl the team was invited to the White House,
36:15
Speaker 2: Jim showed up at his bears Jersey to meet the president.
36:20
Speaker 2: I did not know that. I really get into the
36:22
Speaker 2: Governor's speech coming up a little bit later on. I
36:25
Speaker 2: do want to do something a little bit personal though
36:27
Speaker 2: here for a moment. If you follow me on social media,
36:30
Speaker 2: you know I'm pretty much an open book about things
36:33
Speaker 2: in my life that's good and bad. Sometimes mostly on
36:36
Speaker 2: my personal page. It's usually you know, food and sports
36:39
Speaker 2: and things like that. But I do I got some
36:44
Speaker 2: confirmation yesterday on a little bit of a health issue.
36:46
Speaker 2: I had some concerns about I. I went for a
36:50
Speaker 2: check up and doctor was concerned about my PSA level,
36:56
Speaker 2: and for those of us in radio and television, PSA
36:58
Speaker 2: means public service announcement. I said, hey, I've read, I've
37:01
Speaker 2: read plenty of these, and they said, no, it's something
37:03
Speaker 2: totally different. So they were concerned about it. They sent
37:06
Speaker 2: me for a MRI, which I did a couple of
37:11
Speaker 2: weeks ago, and then last week last Thursday, I was
37:14
Speaker 2: away from the microphone here. Big shout out to Dale
37:18
Speaker 2: Cooper who entered the local show, and then Jeff Jenkins
37:21
Speaker 2: and Daniel Woods who handled the afternoon show. Because I
37:24
Speaker 2: had to have a biopsy last week and was scheduled
37:27
Speaker 2: to have an appointment to follow up with a doctor
37:30
Speaker 2: next week. Well, they called me Tuesday night and they said,
37:32
Speaker 2: we'd actually like you to come in sooner. And that
37:35
Speaker 2: can be That can be one of two things if
37:37
Speaker 2: you've ever gone through that. That can either be a
37:41
Speaker 2: a don't we want to put in your mind at
37:44
Speaker 2: ease it's all good, or be the opposite. Well, in
37:48
Speaker 2: my particular case, and I met with the physician yesterday.
37:53
Speaker 2: Big shout out to doctor Roger Robertson. It wasn't the
37:58
Speaker 2: news that I wanted to hear. I was told yesterday,
38:03
Speaker 2: got the definitive that it is cancer. The good news,
38:08
Speaker 2: if there's good news and getting the cancer diagnosis, is
38:12
Speaker 2: it's prostate cancer, which is one of the most treatable
38:15
Speaker 2: cancers that there is. I've learned more about prostates ryan
38:19
Speaker 2: in the last month than I ever wanted to know. Okay,
38:23
Speaker 2: I can tell you that these statistics are if you
38:26
Speaker 2: are a male, one in three males will get prostate cancer.
38:30
Speaker 2: If they live long enough, it's pretty much gonna happen.
38:34
Speaker 2: So I would say two people, get yourself checked. You know,
38:39
Speaker 2: it's not always the most pleasant thing in the world,
38:41
Speaker 2: but once you get to be a certain age used
38:43
Speaker 2: to be that's said in your fifties. I'm fifty five now.
38:47
Speaker 2: Probably should have had the checks done before then. I
38:54
Speaker 2: don't know. You can you can play the game and
38:56
Speaker 2: say what it could have should have. But I did
38:59
Speaker 2: get the diagnosis yet they did tell me it's one
39:01
Speaker 2: hundred percent I do have cancer. Okay. Now the next
39:05
Speaker 2: question is where do we go from here?
39:07
Speaker 3: Uh?
39:08
Speaker 2: And well, next thing I get to do is called
39:10
Speaker 2: a pet scan. You know I love pets, but that's
39:13
Speaker 2: not really kind of scan I want to have, which basically,
39:16
Speaker 2: from what they tell me, determines how far the cancer
39:18
Speaker 2: has spread.
39:19
Speaker 6: Uh.
39:20
Speaker 2: If it's if it's localized or if it's spread. There
39:22
Speaker 2: is a possibility either way.
39:25
Speaker 3: Uh.
39:25
Speaker 2: And then you know, as timely as today's headlines, as
39:28
Speaker 2: David Letterman used to say, it comes to the news
39:29
Speaker 2: a couple of days ago that Scott Adams, who was
39:32
Speaker 2: the creator of the Dilbert cartoon series, diagnosed with prostate
39:38
Speaker 2: cancer which spread to his bones and he died at
39:40
Speaker 2: like sixty or something like that. That's just the one
39:43
Speaker 2: thing that I wanted to hear on the evening news
39:46
Speaker 2: the other night. But the thing you need to know
39:49
Speaker 2: about me, and I think you've already figured this out
39:52
Speaker 2: and listening to me on this show for the past,
39:54
Speaker 2: it'll be this may be six years, and in radio
39:58
Speaker 2: in thirty eight years. In general, I take absolutely nothing
40:01
Speaker 2: too seriously, mainly myself. Ain't nobody ever going to make
40:07
Speaker 2: fun of Dave Allen more than Dave Allen does. All Right,
40:09
Speaker 2: I'll just tell you that straight up, and I'm gonna
40:14
Speaker 2: tackle this with however, I need to tackle it. And
40:16
Speaker 2: a lot of my great friends have come and said, look,
40:18
Speaker 2: had the same thing I've got. I've got messages, I've
40:21
Speaker 2: got text people say, hey, my dad had the same
40:23
Speaker 2: thing I went through. My good friend Danny Jones, who's
40:25
Speaker 2: on to showed me every Monday prostate cancer survivor. There's
40:29
Speaker 2: a couple of other folks that are I don't won't
40:31
Speaker 2: mention their name. Danny doesn't care, but there are a
40:35
Speaker 2: lot of folks here in the area that have gone
40:37
Speaker 2: through the same thing. So we'll just see what the
40:39
Speaker 2: treatment is. That's that's kind of where we are from there,
40:42
Speaker 2: as I said, and I'm not going to dwell on
40:44
Speaker 2: this a whole lot. I just wanted to let people
40:46
Speaker 2: know that that's where I am. So if I'm away
40:48
Speaker 2: from the microphone from time to time, it's because I'm
40:51
Speaker 2: getting something done, getting something looked at, you know, things
40:55
Speaker 2: I don't want to have looked at, looked at basically,
40:57
Speaker 2: but you know, hashtag Logan County strong. And I got this.
41:02
Speaker 2: And I got a great wife at home who went
41:05
Speaker 2: with me yesterday and set with the doctor with me.
41:09
Speaker 2: I got a great support staff here. I've got great
41:11
Speaker 2: friends like Steve Animal and Robbriel who are going to
41:13
Speaker 2: make fun of me no matter what and are going
41:15
Speaker 2: to use every opportunity that they can to kidney about this,
41:19
Speaker 2: which is exactly what I want. By the way, I've
41:22
Speaker 2: had a lot of people that have come out in
41:23
Speaker 2: the last twenty four hours, actually less than that, and
41:26
Speaker 2: you know, with a lot of heartfelt wish and I
41:27
Speaker 2: appreciate all that, but you know, I kind of I
41:30
Speaker 2: kind of like the funnier things, so you know, make
41:33
Speaker 2: fun of me. I don't care. I don't care. We
41:35
Speaker 2: got this hashtag Logan County s Trump, I keep you

41:45
Speaker 2: Your career starts here. Tex says. We had nothing better
41:49
Speaker 2: to do. We kept a tally sheet on Governor's speech
41:52
Speaker 2: last night. He only mentioned Trump's name about seven times.
41:56
Speaker 2: If he had mentioned him more than ten and a
41:59
Speaker 2: half hour, We're change channels. It's a tester, you know.
42:02
Speaker 2: I had a text to the Midday Show yesterday where
42:07
Speaker 2: somebody said they were going to do a drinking game,
42:10
Speaker 2: and the number of times that Patrick Morrisey mentioned the
42:12
Speaker 2: term Trump. They were going to do a shot, and
42:15
Speaker 2: the texture said they'd be totally out of it by
42:17
Speaker 2: like seven fifteen. I watched the entire speech. There were
42:21
Speaker 2: a couple of Trump references. I don't think they were
42:22
Speaker 2: that early on though. And I did not like this
42:25
Speaker 2: person did I did not keep I did not keep it.
42:29
Speaker 2: Tally text says, if you don't mind saying, what made
42:31
Speaker 2: you get checked? I don't know what makes you go
42:35
Speaker 2: other than an annual checkup. Did you have some kind
42:37
Speaker 2: of symptoms? No, no symptoms whatsoever. Went for an annual checkup,
42:41
Speaker 2: just just with my general practitioner, and they sent me
42:45
Speaker 2: for what they did the blood work there. No, I
42:48
Speaker 2: have no symptoms whatsoever. I can tell you that you
42:53
Speaker 2: can have an enlarge prostate and not have prostate cancer,
42:57
Speaker 2: and you can have prostate cancer and not have it
42:59
Speaker 2: large part I do. I have learned that. And when
43:02
Speaker 2: you have the enlarge prostate, that's when you have the symptoms.
43:05
Speaker 2: You know, the urination issues and you know difficulty. I
43:08
Speaker 2: got none of that, Okay, so yeah, I got one
43:11
Speaker 2: out of two nine fifty. I'll tell you what we're
43:14
Speaker 2: gonna do. We are going to take a break and
43:17

43:19

46:20
Speaker 2: the Governor's speech last night good Morning You're on the air.
46:23
Speaker 16: Good morning only speech last night. He said he wants
46:26
Speaker 16: to give all the state employees a three percent rate increase?
46:30
Speaker 16: Does that include the teachers also three.
46:33
Speaker 2: Percent pay raise? And I would presume that, yes, that
46:36
Speaker 2: would be all state employees. That's the way that I
46:39
Speaker 2: understand him.
46:40
Speaker 16: That's what I thought. That I thought to you, but
46:42
Speaker 16: I just wanted to see what you said.
46:44
Speaker 2: Yeah, that's I mean.
46:45
Speaker 16: We'll be thinking about.
46:46
Speaker 13: You bet all right.
46:46
Speaker 2: Appreciate you, James, Thanks a lot, uh, Tex says Dave.
46:49
Speaker 2: On a lighter note, As the mayor of tays Valley,
46:51
Speaker 2: how do you feel about the West Virginia Bureau of
46:53
Speaker 2: Business and Development basically calling Tayes Valleys growth overrated and overhyped. Well,
46:57
Speaker 2: I appreciate it. Referring to a Deskins there, you know,
47:03
Speaker 2: that's John, smart guy. Smart guy. I live there though,
47:06
Speaker 2: and I know what I see, and I see the
47:09
Speaker 2: U hauls. Appreciate Tex, says Florida guy Dave. Good luck man.
47:12
Speaker 2: As a retired flight medic, remember it's easily treatable, easily defeatable.
47:15
Speaker 2: That's the way I am looking at him. Tex says, dude,
47:18
Speaker 2: you're the man. You came here to chew bubble gum
47:20
Speaker 2: and kick cancer's ass, and you're all out of bubblegum
47:22
Speaker 2: appreciate it. Uh tex says Morrison wants to be Trump
47:25
Speaker 2: so bad, so obvious that he kisses the ring. I
47:28
Speaker 2: know he's hoping so bad Trump was watching. Trump could
47:30
Speaker 2: care less, says the Texter. A couple of guys that
47:33
Speaker 2: always care about everything. Wilson and Meadows live at the
47:37
Speaker 2: State Capitol, gearing up for another talk line, which comes
47:39
Speaker 2: your way at ten o six morning Fellers mourning David.
47:44
Speaker 2: All Right, all right, somebody, somebody in the company told
47:47
Speaker 2: me that Wilson refer to you as Minor Dave. It's like,
47:50
Speaker 2: I guess I'm major Dave in your minor Dave. Who
47:52
Speaker 2: said that? I don't know, but his name rhymes with
47:56
Speaker 2: John Holford.
47:58
Speaker 13: Uh, well that makes sense coming from how well.
48:01
Speaker 2: I mean, look, I am guessing that makes me major Dave.
48:04
Speaker 2: Maybe it's Dave Weekly that's major Dave. Now that is
48:08
Speaker 2: very pause Dave Jacklin, you.
48:09
Speaker 18: Know, because well that's not Dave Jacquelin. We know that,
48:12
Speaker 18: all right, possibly Dave. I mean he has been around
48:15
Speaker 18: longer than both of us.
48:16
Speaker 2: Yeah, that's true, Big d and Little d Which one?
48:21
Speaker 2: Which one's we don't know which? Okay, I'm no, no, no,
48:26
Speaker 2: I refuse. All right, So, uh, all right, let's talk
48:30
Speaker 2: about let's talk about the governor's state of the uh
48:33
Speaker 2: state of the state last night, Wilson. Let's start with you,
48:36
Speaker 2: uh give me your thoughts. And I know you guys
48:39
Speaker 2: are gonna get into it more and on talk. I
48:40
Speaker 2: don't want to spoil them.
48:41
Speaker 18: But overall, uh, overall, it was it was an okay.
48:45
Speaker 3: Speech. It was tight.
48:46
Speaker 18: He stuck to the script. He's He's certainly not Jim Justice,
48:49
Speaker 18: who came in with a general idea of where he
48:51
Speaker 18: was going to go, but you never know.
48:52
Speaker 2: Where he would end up.
48:54
Speaker 18: And a lot of it we kind of he had
48:56
Speaker 18: been telegraphing a lot of what he had in that
48:57
Speaker 18: speech last night. We knew he was requesting the personal
49:01
Speaker 18: income tax cut. We knew he was going to request
49:04
Speaker 18: a pay raise for teachers. I find the idea of
49:08
Speaker 18: having more flood prevention works efforts in the works, I
49:13
Speaker 18: find that to be intriguing, getting more people trained to
49:16
Speaker 18: go to work. I find some of that to be intriguing.
49:18
Speaker 18: But a lot of it, because he had telegraphed it
49:20
Speaker 18: prior to the speech, was very much expected last night.
49:25
Speaker 2: TJ.
49:25
Speaker 19: Yeah, I think ten percent also gives him a window
49:28
Speaker 19: if he wants to cut back a little bit. Start high,
49:30
Speaker 19: gives you some room for negotiation if you end up
49:32
Speaker 19: more around five.
49:33
Speaker 2: Look a lot of looking back.
49:35
Speaker 19: And I get that these kinds of speeches are of
49:36
Speaker 19: Pep Browley. You want to tell people what you've done, but.
49:39
Speaker 2: Looking forward, a little light on the detail.
49:43
Speaker 19: Dave Allen, if I'm being honest with you, and that's
49:45
Speaker 19: where the rubber meets the road.
49:46
Speaker 2: Look, we all want big things.
49:48
Speaker 19: I want a third house in Barbados, but I got
49:49
Speaker 19: to figure out how I'm going to pay for it.
49:51
Speaker 19: And so that's what we need to hear moving forward,
49:54
Speaker 19: and we'll hear that in the budget meetings today. But
49:55
Speaker 19: how are we going to balance? How are we going
49:57
Speaker 19: to afford a tax cut when you've got a couple
49:59
Speaker 19: hundred million dollars up to four hundred million dollars according
50:02
Speaker 19: to the governor's own budget document in the out years,
50:05
Speaker 19: that we have a gap we have to fill. Last
50:06
Speaker 19: year we were broke. What changed in a year we'll
50:08
Speaker 19: find out.
50:09
Speaker 18: Well, and I was trying to go ahead, Wilson, Well,
50:12
Speaker 18: I was just going to say, I'm trying to figure
50:13
Speaker 18: out how to say make rural America healthy again?
50:16
Speaker 1: Is that?
50:16
Speaker 18: Maraha?
50:18
Speaker 2: Maraha? I like Raha, I like that, Maraha, I like that.
50:21
Speaker 2: But to be fair to governor more see, I don't know.
50:24
Speaker 2: And there was a texture that said something to this effect,
50:27
Speaker 2: that said something to the effect of, you know, it
50:31
Speaker 2: was a lot like a lot of other government speeches,
50:33
Speaker 2: a lot of other governor's speeches if you go back
50:35
Speaker 2: over the years, you know, fifteen, twenty, twenty five years,
50:38
Speaker 2: whatever the case may be, the governors come out on
50:41
Speaker 2: the say of the state speech be it, no matter
50:43
Speaker 2: who it is, and they throw a lot of stuff
50:45
Speaker 2: out there, knowing that a lot of it's not going
50:47
Speaker 2: to sick. It's just kind of like their wish lists.
50:49
Speaker 2: So I agree there wasn't a lot of detail, but
50:52
Speaker 2: I don't think any other governors have given a lot
50:54
Speaker 2: of specific details either over the years.
50:58
Speaker 19: Look, I think it's fair, but when you're asking for
51:01
Speaker 19: ten percent and last year you're talking about we're broke
51:03
Speaker 19: and now we're going to do another ten percent pay cut,
51:05
Speaker 19: I think you got to sell that a little bit.
51:06
Speaker 19: And guys like me, I like details. Maybe I'm in
51:09
Speaker 19: the minority there, and look they're doing that today. We'll
51:11
Speaker 19: see what happens. But I did not hear about economic development.
51:15
Speaker 19: I didn't hear anything about what the House wants to
51:17
Speaker 19: do with Team West Virginia that's hanging out there. Labor
51:20
Speaker 19: participation rate, Sure it sucks, we all know that, But
51:23
Speaker 19: how are we going to get more people to work?
51:25
Speaker 19: Those are the kind of things I wanted a little
51:26
Speaker 19: more meat on.
51:27
Speaker 3: But that's me.
51:27
Speaker 2: I know, you guys are going to have the governor
51:29
Speaker 2: on the show today. We've also got him on the
51:30

51:51
Speaker 2: Is it day two? Is there anything that we have

Speaker 2: in like, you know, anything good? Like I don't know
51:55
Speaker 2: broadworst day or anything like that.
