- 0:00Vox Liturgica: The propers of the day according to the Roman Missal before 1955. The feast of Saint Leo the second, July 3 in the year of our Lord, 2026.
- 0:19A note from Dom Gaspar LeFevre. Leo the second, a Sicilian by birth, participated in the full priesthood of Christ on becoming pope. Guided by the Holy Ghost, he gave their full value to the spiritual riches of the church committed to his care by Jesus who is in heaven.
- 0:45He approved the acts of the sixth council which condemned those who taught that Christ has only one will. Well versed in sacred singing, he perfected the melodies of the Psalms and of the hymns of the church. He was truly the father of the poor and by his example and preaching led everyone to virtue. He died in the year of our Lord 06/1983 and was buried in the Basilica Of Saint Peter. Let us imitate the example of this Saint who was one of the successors of Saint Peter on the Pontifical Throne.
- 1:34In the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Ghost. Amen.
- 1:43The Introit. Let thy priests, oh, Lord, be clothed with justice and let thy saints rejoice for thy servant David's sake turn not away the face of thine anointed. Oh Lord, remember David and all his meekness.
- 2:05Glory be to the father and to the son and to the holy ghost as it was in the beginning is now and will be through all ages of ages. Amen. Let thy priests, O Lord, be clothed with justice and let thy saints rejoice for thy servant David's sake turn not away the face of thine anointed. The Collect. Let us pray.
- 2:39O God, who didst raise up blessed Pope Leo to rank with thy saints in merit. Grant in thy mercy that we who keep his festival may also follow the example of his life. A commemoration of the octave of the holy apostles Peter and Paul. Oh, God, who has made this day holy by the martyrdom of thine apostles, Peter and Paul, grant that thy church may in all things follow the precepts of those through whom she received the beginnings of the faith through our Lord Jesus Christ, thy son, who liveth and reigneth with thee in the unity of the Holy Ghost, God through all ages of ages. Amen.
- 3:33A lesson from the letter of Saint Paul the Apostle to the Hebrews. Brethren, there was made a succession of priests since death denied them permanence. Whereas Jesus continues forever and his priestly office is unchanging. That is why he can give eternal salvation to those who through him make their way to God. He lives on still to make intercession on our behalf.
- 4:09Such was the high priest that suited our need. Holy and guiltless and undefiled, not reckoned among us sinners, lifted high above all the heavens. One who has no need to do as those other priests did, offering a twofold sacrifice day by day. First for his own sins, then for those of the people. What he has done, he has done once for all.
- 4:44And the offering was himself, Jesus Christ, our lord. The gradual. I will clothe her priests with salvation, and her saints shall rejoice with exceeding great joy. There will I bring forth a horn to David. I have prepared a lamp for my anointed.
- 5:11Alleluia. Alleluia. The Lord hath sworn and he will not repent. Thou art a priest forever according to the order of Melchizedek. Alleluia.
- 5:29A continuation of the holy gospel according to Matthew. At that time, Jesus spoke this parable to his disciples. A man went on his travels and called his trusted servants to him, entrusting them with his money. He gave 5 talents to one, two to another, and one to a third, each according to their abilities, and set out on his journey. The servant who received 5 talents traded with them and gained five more.
- 6:10While the one who received two talents earned two more in the same way. However, the servant who received one talent dug a hole in the ground and hid his master's money there. After a long time, their master returned and settled accounts with them. The servant who had received five talents came forward and presented five additional talents saying, Lord, you gave me five talents. See, I have made a profit of five more.
- 6:54His master replied, well done, my good and faithful servant. Since you were faithful over little things, I will commit greater things to your charge. Come and share the joy of your Lord. Then the servant who had received two talents also came forward saying, Lord, you gave me two talents. See, I have made a profit of two more.
- 7:30His master responded in the same way. Well done, my good and faithful servant. Since you were faithful over little things, I will commit greater things to your charge. Come and share the joy of your Lord. The offertory.
- 7:58I have found David, my servant. With my holy oil, I have anointed him. For my hands shall help him, and my arm shall strengthen him. The secret. Grant, oh, Lord, we beseech thee that by the intercession of blessed Leo, we may profit by the offering of this sacrifice by which thou didst loosen the sins of the whole world.
- 8:29A commemoration of the octave of the holy apostles, Peter and Paul. May the prayer of the apostles accompany the sacrifices which we bring to thee, O Lord, to be consecrated to thy name. And through that prayer, grant that we may be cleansed and defended through our Lord Jesus Christ, thy son, who liveth and reigneth with thee in the unity of the Holy Ghost, God through all ages of ages. Amen. The common preface, just it is indeed and fitting, right and for our salvation, that we should at all times and in all places give thanks unto thee, oh, Lord, father almighty, everlasting God.
- 9:24Through whom the angels praise thy majesty, the dominions worship it, the power stand in awe, The heavens and the hosts of heaven together with the blessed Seraphim joyfully do magnify. We entreat thee that thou command it be permitted us to join with them in confessing thee while we say with lowly praise. Holy, holy, holy, Lord God of hosts, the heavens and the earth are full of thy glory. Hosanna in the highest. Blessed is he who comes in the name of the Lord.
- 10:09Hosanna in the highest. The communion. Blessed is the servant whom when his Lord cometh, he shall find watching. Amen. I say to you, he shall place him over all his goods.
- 10:33The post communion. Let us pray. O God, who has granted to the soul of thy servant Leo the reward of everlasting bliss that we who are weighed down by the burden of our sins may be relieved by his intercession. A commemoration of the octave of the holy apostles, Peter and Paul. Through the intercession of the apostles, do thou, oh Lord, guard from all adversity, those whom thou hast filled with heavenly food through our Lord Jesus Christ, thy son, who liveth and reigneth with thee in the unity of the Holy Ghost, God through all ages of ages.
