• 0:18
Yeah, man. Yeah, man. Full Spectrum Cycling, show number 61 today. Goodness. It's kinda like we've been doing this for a while now. Maybe. Like 61 weeks. [laughs] Had to wait till that, uh...
• 0:33
I had to wait till the toilet stopped filling up in the other room. Sorry for the urination station. At the end it goes, "Eh, eh, eh, eh, eh, eh, eh, eh, eh, eh, eh, eh, eh."
• 0:42
At least it didn't laugh at me while I was peeing. [laughs] A- and then you don't hear the valve shut when it goes kabang, but- That's what she said... right on. Right on. So what's going on? Got JK. Hey, hey. Got Mr.
• 0:56
Tony Burger. Ritter. Tony was a, an unexpected guest today, which kinda makes up for the fact that Schlabowski had a knee tweak and can't get to a phone right now- Oh, that's a bummer... and won't be on until next week.
• 1:10
So all right, folks. Thanks for coming. We'll see you next week. You rhymed a lot. You rhymed a lot- [laughs]... in that opening. I am- Wait, what?... impressed. A lot of rhyme- I wouldn't even known... all that time.
• 1:19
Had no idea. [laughs] Oh. Hey. Yeah, I saw a lot of, uh, Dice Clay. He's very social media active as of late. Really? And it's very interesting. I used to love him, and then he- Plays drums...
• 1:32
and, and then he got all kind of whiny and namby-pamby and you didn't- Yeah, yeah... wanna like him, and then now he's back to being Dice again, or? Kinda. I don't know. It w- I, it...
• 1:43
I kinda just flip by it, kinda like a headline. And he plays drums. Yeah. And I didn't really listen to it. I just saw him playing it. Speaking of- I mean, I could do that, too...
• 1:51
speaking of playing drums, have you seen any of the more recent King Crimson concert videos? No. No, I have not. They, they have- But I'm intrigued already. Well, they have a line of three drummers- Oh...
• 2:02
on the front of the stage. Oh, hell yeah. Of course, Robert Fripp and wh-... I don't know who the guy playing the stick is now, I forget his name, but he still plays a stick, which who knows what a stick is. Stick.
• 2:13
Percussionist. One of the coolest instrument ever made. Um, yeah, I, I... There's a really cool video of a concert in Mexico, uh, 2017.
• 2:23
So I'd started looking around, and they're somewhere in Indiana June 25th, but I'll- Gary? Gary, Indiana. I don't think they're gonna be there, though... Gary, Indiana. Gary, Indiana. Gary, Indiana. Gary.
• 2:33
Here's my thing, though. If they come here or anywhere near here, this is something we should see because, my gush- Hell, yeah... I haven't, I haven't seen King Crimson in, like, 30 years plus.
• 2:45
I think I saw them when I was two, so- Good to see... 33 years. [laughs] God, just keeps getting deeper and shit in this place. Hey-o. I gotcha. I gotcha. Ooh. Stuck in their own ankles here.
• 2:56
Speaking of deep shit, that guy that wanted to buy that beautiful prickly pear- Oh... one of the last of its kind ice cream trucks. Bailed? Can't, 'cause a nice lady came up from Illinois and is buying it, so [laughs]
• 3:08
Nice. Ah, yeah. A hold is only good until- She came up and wrote it? Yep... or... Nice. Yep. Do a couple changes. She's gonna be back next week and grab it and- Until-... hit the trails, man... until the cash is king.
• 3:19
[clicks tongue] That's a large, isn't it? She must have been a pretty tall lady. She fit it well, and you would not have thought so for some reason. Really? But yeah, she did. And it- Yeah... yeah.
• 3:28
We're all made different. We're gonna narrow the bars up a little bit, put a little different seat on there, and get rid of those ridiculous pedals that are on it. Oh, yeah. [laughs] Those gotta go.
• 3:36
Oh, those are- Those are horrible... yeah, those are- They're like, um, hologram pedals, basically. Ball pees. They kinda look like pedals- [laughs]... but they really aren't.
• 3:44
For the viewers, we'll, uh, zoom in on those pedals. Yeah. It's a, it's a, uh... You can zoom in by walking up to it if you take- [laughs]... your headphones off. Mr. Digital Zoom. [laughs] [laughs] Bite me.
• 3:56
[laughs] Can you not hear me when I yell, "Bite me," and I'm not on my headphones? Yeah, man. You're not even supposed to be here, dude. Yeah, we had a whole show about ripping on you.
• 4:08
[laughs] Can't, can't do that show now. Hey, wait. Ooh. I've got a whole new line. We can't hear you. Rips- But we can only rip on you. Yeah. [laughs] [coughs] Uh, Mr.
• 4:26
Burger is, is making a trip. This is something that we would like to, uh, discuss a little bit. Tony, where are you headed? I am heading to, headed to the Lake of the Ozarks in Ozark, Missouri.
• 4:39
Is it- Well, so they're o-... safe to be domestically traveling- I think so... during this time? Technically, the- I am just curious because- It, well-...
• 4:47
I am, I am of the mind and of the question of doing that this weekend. Well, I am, um- And I'm hesitant... I, I am very hesitant.
• 4:57
Um, however, I have since watched the long range forecast, and it is supposed to rain and thunderstorm every day that we're there.
• 5:05
So basically, I am driving a rental piece of shit General Motors Corporation vehicle- To do this... to Missouri- [laughs]... to sit in a vacation VRBO.
• 5:18
Saturday might be okay, in which case I'll go out on a, on a boat and burn up about 100 gallons of fuel, more than I use in my car all year. Hey, emissions are down- You know?... like 30%, though, so.
• 5:28
I'm, I'm fine with that. I'm not paying for it. A- as the- You, you-... comedian who... I don't know what comedian said this- Yeah, the whales are coming into the Hudson now...
• 5:33
yeah, I don't know what comedian said this, but- I don't know what to say about that... you don't wanna be- [laughs] He said, "You don't want to be the guy that owns the boat.
• 5:40
You wanna be the guy that brings the beer to the guy that owns the boat." Right. I'm gonna be that guy. Exactly. 'Cause twin 496s tends to burn a lot of fuel. Two best days you...
• 5:54
of when owning your boat, like the- Day you buy it, day you sell it... the day you bought it, the day you sell it. [laughs] Yeah, exactly. [laughs] The boat's just a big hole in the water- Oh... you throw money in.
• 6:02
Do you... You've been doing so much, let me get the gas today Oh, no No... a worse you'd ever want to occur. No. [laughs] This thing takes several hundred gallons of fuel. Hell, uh, yeah.
• 6:14
And, you know, so I am going to the Lake of the Ozarks. I expect that I'll spend a lot of time in a rental home playing games with my family- So you know what we need to do... and possibly drinking beer...
• 6:28
A, we need to take a call. [gasps] Oh, Lord. A, caller. B, we need to take a call. Yo. Hey. Welcome to the radio program- How are you doing, guys?... caller. Who do we have on the line? [laughs] Big Sexy. Big Sexy.
• 6:43
Big Sexy. Big Sexy. Did you, did you hear the f- Big... did you... Hey, Jason, did you hear the fact that, that Mr. Tony Burger's coming down to Lake of the Ozarks? Yeah, where are you? Yeah.
• 6:53
Um, well, I'm, I'm over, uh, across the ri- um, I'm, I'm over Illinois now. I'm in Sparta, Illinois. Sparta. Sparta. In Sparta. [laughs] Check. [laughs] And, uh, he- I'm heading, heading to Springfield.
• 7:10
I'm got yet another overnight package to order from Schwinn in the morning. Is it a wheel? He just keeps on breaking on me, dude. It was a brake last time that broke.
• 7:22
Yeah, the b- the brake broke, and now, um, I found out what broke the brake. So it's not just a clever name. What, what broke the brake? Yeah, no, the,
• 7:31
there's a little chunk of my, um, my, uh, front rim missing, and it's exposing the innards of the tire, and I think that, um, got caught and ripped off and b- and snapped the brake back, I think.
• 7:47
It's probably a good call. But yeah, new, new, new front tire and then, uh, and probably a, a new s- a new main chain because it's not a bad idea. It's getting a little crunchy. And, [laughs]
• 8:01
and then I don't think there's anything original on Heather anymore. Ah. It's the, the- She's had some plastic surgery... the front, the front frame and the handlebars. That's it. Yeah. You, she, you gotta upgrade her.
• 8:11
Right. [laughs] Well, I'll tell you what, guys. If you, if you, if you ever go biking
• 8:16
around, um, s- um, southern Missouri is, uh, um, you know, central Missouri and, um, very southern Illinois, do not cross the bridge to Chester, Illinois. That is the scariest bridge I've ever been on in my life.
• 8:32
I wouldn't, I wouldn't even be comfortable riding in a car over it. Ooh. It was just- Oh... it was a two-lane, two-lane bridge, o- one, one lane going against the other. No, no shoulder, no sidebar, nothing.
• 8:48
Indiana Jones- And here's some-... over the bridge type thing? Yeah. C- and, and the cement was all crumbling. Oh. You could see the rebar inside the cement. Ooh.
• 8:58
And that thing was jumping up and down every time a truck went over, and oh my God, I, I thought I was gonna die. Infrastructure- Yeah... in the United States is crumbling. Gone. Do you see the two dams- Oh...
• 9:08
or at least one, maybe two- Michigan, both of 'em failed... in Michigan have failed? Yeah. Yep. Things are failing. I, I, I heard about that. I heard about that just today. Like 20,000 people displaced.
• 9:18
There's gonna- Yep. Right? And, and you know, and, uh, 20, 20,000 people homeless or, and evacuated trying to stay six feet away from each other with a mask on. [laughs] Oh, shit. Right. Yeah.
• 9:31
And we got hurricane season coming right up. It's just, it, this whole thing's a mess. Yep. You know, I don't know how much I talked to you guys last week. [laughs] I have no idea. Were you drinking?
• 9:44
You were- I- You, I think you had the, um- Oh, I was- You had the, the Rumplestiltskin- I was... smile or whatever it is that you were. [laughs] Oh my God, I had no idea. I have no idea- You were fine, Big Sexy...
• 9:55
what I even said to you guys. You were good. You were fine. You can listen to the podcast. Yeah, fine. You hear everything you said. Yeah, just listen to yourself. You're a star on the radio.
• 10:02
[laughs] I get embarrassed enough when I'm, when I remember what I said. [laughs] So tell me about your- But, uh- Tell me about your live streaming.
• 10:11
Are you doing that, uh, regularly, or is it just when you get to something that's interesting? Yeah, when I get to something that's interesting.
• 10:19
I'm gonna do a virtual field trip when I get to Springfield and do the, um, the Lincoln, the Lincoln Presidential Library and the, the State Capitol and all that.
• 10:28
All that's right there in, like, a, a two, three block radius, so I'd love to do a live one there. I try to do a live Mi- Mississippi River crossing whenever I cross it,
• 10:39
but that shit wasn't happening today 'cause I didn't wanna, I didn't wanna be crying live on Facebook. [laughs] How many times are you gonna go back a- And, uh-...
• 10:48
back and forth across the old, uh, the mighty Mississippi? ISS. ISS, IPPI. IPPI. Well, the, the, that's an interesting question 'cause I, uh, I know for sure I'm gonna cross it one, two, at least two more times.
• 11:02
I might have to- [laughs]... cross it if I bike, bike out to my sister's house once I get to Minneapolis, 'cause she lives on the other side of it than my brother.
• 11:11
So that's, that's maybe once or twice more, and then I'm gonna go... I'm going to the top of it, too. I'm gonna go to the beginning of the Mississippi River. Definitely doing a live, a live stream there. Right on.
• 11:23
Yeah, that sounds awesome. Yeah, it depends on what side it- It'd be... You could make- Yeah. It- You could actually make the live stream up there at the beginning of the Mississippi 'cause it's really small.
• 11:30
You could just kinda add- Yep... to the volume. Yeah, and I can, uh, and, and I don't have to take a bridge to cross the Mississippi River there. It's, like, a little creek that comes out. Right.
• 11:39
You can slap your foot with... You, you just have to water-whip your foot up there. You could just kinda jump across it. [laughs] I, I con- I control the flow. [laughs] He- Heather, Heather doesn't jump.
• 11:52
Let's make that clear. [laughs] Oh, come on. Just do an endo. [laughs] Oh, man. Anyway. So, are- So, yeah.
• 12:01
Uh- Are, are all these parts for Heather on your dime, or are they helping you out by, uh, knowing what you're doing- Yeah... and just sending you parts- Yeah... because you're the Big Sexy?
• 12:12
The la- uh, the, the last two, the, the la- I bought, I bought both right and left wheels. I bought those.
• 12:21
I mean, I ca- and, and because they've, they've replaced my right wheel for free a couple times, and they're like, they're like, "No more." I didn't even ask for the free, a free left one. [laughs] I, I didn't care.
• 12:30
That, that, that left one, that left one had, has over 6,000 miles on it, so does the front. Never had any trouble with it. I don't care. I bought one. Yeah. Now, the brake they sent me for free.
• 12:41
Well, that was nice of them. Yeah. I, I can see what might- 'Cause they had one-... have happened there just visually in my head, so. Yeah. Well, I, I bought one, I bought a new brake,
• 12:50
um, in December, so, and, and they, they got records of that and it's on- it's only been like four months and a couple hundred miles. That sh- that brake shouldn't have snapped like that. Right.
• 13:01
But, you know, so it's kind of both. Sweet.
• 13:06
I'm, I'm not sure what they're gonna do about the front wheel and the chain, but, um, they, they, if they, if they offer to send it to me for free, I'll take it, but I'm not, you know-
• 13:15
Yeah, I mean, you know- I'm definitely not ca- calling, calling Schwinn and say, "You owe me something." Yeah, stomp your feet. You know? I, I don't do that. "Hey, why? Hey, uh, uh."
• 13:20
Well, the, the chain's definitely a wear, a wear item, so you know. Yeah, but- But yeah... but they're, they're like...
• 13:27
The, um, my favorite customer service girl is, uh, is a little worried that I'm, that I'm, uh, getting, getting too close to her house 'cause she, 'cause I'm in Southern Illinois now and that's where- [laughs]...
• 13:38
that's where they are. That's like- And she's like, "Hey, wait a minute." He's like, "I'm-" "You know I'm gonna have to opt those out." "Soldier comes for Annie." [laughs] I'm like, I'm like...
• 13:47
She, they're all working from home, too, the, the customer service reps, so.
• 13:51
[laughs] So that's what we were, we were trying to figure out what route Tony's taken down and if he's gonna see you as he passes by going the other direction. Yeah, that'd be hilarious.
• 14:00
[laughs] He'd be like, "Hey, hey, there he goes. Oh." Well, he goes Big Sexy. And then To- Tony- Yeah... will do a big e-brake U-turn. Oh, I'll turn the fuck around, man. The, the, the ex- what now? Oh, I'm sure.
• 14:11
It's a GM, uh- GMC Yukon... Yukon will be- Yukon?... will be s- flipping over on its back- Yeah. If you see-... as he does a U-turn... a big white Yukon flipping over- Yeah, doing a barrel roll... that's my rental.
• 14:19
[laughs] Trying to like, stop. Ah. No, you're, you're gonna- I'm not going, uh, I'm ta- I'm taking a, I'm taking a l- a left at, uh, Springfield, and I'm heading, I'm heading almost directly west to, um, Des Moines.
• 14:34
It's a little to the northwest, but- Yep... going into Des Moines, Iowa after that. So, I mean, if we cross paths, it's cool, man. I'm o- I'm, I check out Facebook, uh, like on the hour.
• 14:43
Well, I am the only driver, so trust me, if I see anyone on a bicycle, let alone- Tricycle... a tricycle. If I see a trike- Oh, okay...
• 14:51
you can make damn sure, Big Sexy, I, I, d- I, you know, I, I almost hate to tell you I'm gonna have a white GMC 'cause I wanna just kinda, kinda, kinda like pull up behind you, lay on the horn- Roll up on you...
• 15:03
and then roll down the window, and go, "Big Sexy" Oh, man. And then shoot the shit with you. It...
• 15:07
[laughs] If you, if you did it in that order, pulled up right behind me and started creeping on me, then honked your horn- [laughs]...
• 15:14
and then pulled up to me and said, "Big Sexy," I would like, I'd probably pop because I would be so pissed- [laughs]... and then so happy at the same like right away.
• 15:22
[laughs] [laughs] Flip you off and then wanna kiss you. [laughs] Like o- one of those, o- one of the, one of the things... Okay, so, uh, I, I'm sorry to bust into a quick story, so I'll try to make it quick at least.
• 15:33
This morning, I'm on this two-lane road with no shoulder, of course, um, this is in Missouri still, and this big rig refused to pass me. And I mean, there was plenty of room.
• 15:45
I don't know why he wouldn't pass me, and I'm like, "Come on, go around me." And there's a big line of cars following behind. Oh, of course there is. They're honking their horns. And, and I'm like, I'm like, "God."
• 15:55
All right. I'm, I pulled off into a driveway- And let him go...
• 15:59
and the big rig go, uh, goes by me, and the line of cars starts going by me, and the second to last was a truck with a car behind it, and the truck stops right before the driveway. And I'm like, "What?"
• 16:12
He's like, "That's my driveway." [laughs] Like, goddammit. [laughs] [claps] That's awesome, Joe. Are you fucking kidding me? [laughs] What's the chance? That's classic, dude. Very classic. Ugh.
• 16:27
I mean, I was already ready to, ready to burst into flames right there, and then, and then- [laughs]... "That's my driveway." I'm like, "God, son of a bitch." [laughs] Got a beer?
• 16:38
[laughs] So- Dude, if I had, I would have probably ch- I gotta remember, I gotta bring back the beer hill. We- There's always a hill. Speaking of a beer hill- There's a hill... wait a second. Oh, there?
• 16:51
[bell ringing] Yeah, it's, you know, it's like- This is what it, this is what it sounds like. We're at the top of a hill, folks. And we need beer. Y- yeah.
• 16:58
A- a- and that's, when I, when I drag Heather to the top of this, to, to the top of the hill, I have to chug a beer from now on. I forgot about it. I haven't brought back the beer hill yet. Gotta do it. Huh?
• 17:07
'Cause I got, uh, like in flat-ass Florida, there wasn't no beer hills. Well, they got, they got, uh, uh, freeway overpasses. Th- those kinda count in Florida. Yeah, we'll, we'll accept those. Overpasses.
• 17:17
So, um- Over, overpass beer... Big Sexy, we always have a show beer. Today's show beer is Three Floyds Laser Snake, which I would not consider- Really?... a chugging beer. Mm. It's, uh, it's a very tasty IPA, though.
• 17:30
Yes. It's quite, um- In the 7%, 7% alcohol... in the 7% neighborhood. So, uh, I don't know if you wanna slam- Usually drinkable... 'em on every hill. Maybe every other. Yeah, every other hill maybe. Right. Yeah.
• 17:39
Or go up two hills before you have this one. So I don't, I don't know if you remember this from last week, but I know you're gonna be in Des Moines.
• 17:45
We talked about, um, you being there, and my buddy Kim does a show out of Des Moines, Kim West Radio Cycling show. Uh, I, and if you could- Great...
• 17:56
give me a heads-up when you're, you know, a day or two away, I would like to see if we can hook you up with Kim 'cause I think that would be a l- a really good thing for both of you guys. Excellent. Yeah.
• 18:05
That, that's, that's awesome. I'm, I'm r- ready and willing to, to meet anybody on the road, 'cause, you know, like I always tell people, I talk, I talk to the tricycle all the-...
• 18:15
and then talk back, so [laughs] [laughs] Good thing for her. It w- r- right. It when, it when, it, when she does talk, it's bad news. What was she saying last week? Always. My, my wings. My wing, baby. Fish tape.
• 18:29
[laughs] My legs hurt. [laughs] Not as bad as mine. Not as bad as they're gonna- Is that right? When you carry me across the state line, baby. [laughs] Right.
• 18:42
Oh my God, I, and y- I, y- just, I wouldn't b- I couldn't believe this bridge this morn- when I crossed that bridge to the Mississippi River, I don't, I c- I could not believe it Like some creepy, like- It was-...
• 18:53
covered, like creepy degenerate, like, covered bridge where you kinda freak out a little bit- It's like-... going across? If the, i- yeah, if the entire city of New Orleans is a bridge, that's exactly what it is.
• 19:06
[laughs] There you go. So how, how far across was the river at the point you crossed it? Is it we're talking a mile, mile and a half, couple miles? No. No way. No way.
• 19:15
This is, I, I was only on that bridge, it couldn't have e- even been a half a mile. Oh, right on. Oof. It, it couldn't- That's scary... it couldn't have been. Was it, uh- It wa- it was- Was it, was it flowing good?
• 19:24
Uh, we had a lot of rain. I don't know if it came down that far yet. No. Nah, nah. It was- A lot, a lot of rain this fall... it, it was, um, it- A lot of rain. In that storm...
• 19:32
it w- it's only been, only been enough rain, like a, a drizzly, a drizzly, misty rain. Just enough to piss you off. The shitty misties. I love the sh- The shitty misties. I love them. Great band name. Trademark.
• 19:44
Yeah, I mean, y- i- if you're not trying to keep your camping gear dry, it's kinda fun to ride in that. Mm-hmm. Mm. [laughs] All right. [laughs] The shitty misties. Well, cool.
• 19:55
I'm glad you called in, uh- Yeah, yeah, man... we, we had another guest, but he, he hurt himself- He got himself darn hurt...
• 20:00
and he's outta phone range right now, so he's, he's temporarily recuperating till next week when he's gonna be on the show, so. Ah. He went north up into- Well, yeah, dude... northern Wisconsin.
• 20:09
I always enjoy telling, telling y'all my stories and letting y'all know where I'm at. Cool. Oh, yeah. We always enjoy having you, dude. Right on. Keep up with us. Cool. We'll keep up with you. All right, man.
• 20:21
Ro- yeah, rock and roll. Just, um, r- just ro- rolling and rolling and rolling and rolling. Hey, remind everybody- I'm gonna come in next week. Is that cool? Oh, yeah. Yeah. Give, give us a shout.
• 20:30
But, uh, remind everybody if they wanna help Jason on his roll across the country to every state capital- What do we do?... at some point in the future. What's your, uh, your, your PayPal, um, address?
• 20:43
Uh, pay- uh, the Pay- the PayPal is, uh, Beckhouse504. Right on. Put that in the show notes. The PayPal.me/beckhu- Was that... We'll put that in the show notes. Yeah, excellent. Yep. Everybody help- Thank you.
• 21:01
Thank you so much... help Jason out. Okay, brother. Thanks for calling. Rubber side down, brother. Thank you, guys, so much. Take it easy. Thank you. Talk to you. Hope I see you tomorrow. [laughs] All right.
• 21:11
[laughs] Peace. [laughs] All right. Jason Big Sexy Beckhouse. I, I will shit bricks if I see him. [laughs] And I will turn around and I will, like, I will not social distance myself from that gentleman.
• 21:26
Well- I do think he should listen to last week's show Yeah, he was pretty funny. [laughs] Jason, if you're still listening, you were kinda drunk last week. Yeah, it was a good show. It was a good show. Loved it. Yeah.
• 21:38
You know what? I'll be- I've had, I've had shows where I had that slurred thing. No, you? Yes, I did. No. To be fair- To be fair... to be fair- Ah... I basically never listen to our shows after they're done. Why?
• 21:47
Because I was here. I do once a week. [laughs] I was there. I have to do it once. I sat there. [laughs] I, I listen to every one of them once a week. No. I gotta hear.
• 21:54
Because I remember getting this shit from, I, not so much you, but from Gomez on the, uh, Weekly Dose. That one. [clears throat] Well- On occasion. "Did you listen?" And I'm like, "No, I was there." Yeah.
• 22:07
So, well- [laughs] And I was like... It w- so for the Weekly Dose, though, that was an entirely different setup. I listened- Oh, yeah, yeah... to each show- But in the same... Well, mentally, for me. Right.
• 22:17
It- I wouldn't have listened to them either if I would've done them the way we're doing them now, but we ha- we were doing them differently, and I had to listen to the show at least a half a dozen times- [laughs] Oh, shit.
• 22:28
All right... to mix it down and get it all- Get it right... polished up and- Gotcha, gotcha... take all the, take all the shitty parts out. And I'm like, "You know what? The shitty parts can stay- Yeah...
• 22:36
'cause I'm not working on them." [laughs] Yeah. You know? It just like- The endearing parts- It's, it's live-... are the shitty parts... it's live radio, dammit. It's- It's Letterman, not Leno. It's recorded live radio.
• 22:46
[laughs] Kinda. [laughs] Sort of. [laughs] You know, it's like, uh, we're kinda like the greatest radio station in the world, WMSC.org. But- Oh, yes That's good... not as good. That's good.
• 22:57
[laughs] It's fundraising time, folks. And- If you do listen to WMSC wherever you are- And you're not, it currently, uh- And you can stream it on the dang old computer Donate now. That would be at WMSC.org..org.
• 23:11
So what I like about the new fundraising drive that, uh, that Station Manager Tom Crawford talks about is it's not an algorithm that is- Mm-hmm... picking the music that you're listening to.
• 23:22
Basically, it's 70 DJs who are passionate about music and are playing things that they really, really think you're gonna like and they think you should hear. Yeah. It's kinda like music ed- education. Yeah.
• 23:34
They have 74, uh- 101... se- 70 program directors instead- Right... of one- Yep And-... that says d- no... and they're all volunteers. These people- Oh, yeah. Exactly... don't get paid to do this. No, true that.
• 23:45
This is how much they love music. Right. This station does not have any advertisements on it. And if you- It is 50%- If you-... powered by the- Yeah...
• 23:52
people that listen to it, and the rest is all local businesses or businesses that- B- yeah... that- That believe in it... believe in it, absolutely. Yep. And if you didn't listen to, a couple of days ago, Wednesday,
• 24:04
for the noon to 3:00 show with Squid Ink- I did not... get your ass back there and listen to that show. And that's something- You can download the entire archives... they have the archives for. Incredible. Yep.
• 24:17
And it's, uh- It is such an-... is it 40 years yet? It's 39 or 40 years. 39. It's 39 years. Yep. 39. So it'll be 40 years next year.
• 24:23
And I have been a sustaining mem- well, I have been a donating member since 19- A sound citizen sustaining member... well, I, before they set that up, so I have dog tags. Yeah. Mm. I have no dog tags for you. 19...
• 24:37
I wanna say, like, '94 or three is when I started donating, and I still donate every freaking pledge drive because- I'm, I'm, I'm, I'm on a sustaining member now-... I will not- 'cause I c- I used to forget y- year.
• 24:48
One year, I'd forget. Cannot lose this radio station. I'd be like... Yep. Well, that, that, that's what got me, uh... [clears throat] [laughs] my sustaining one was I did math, which I hate,
• 25:00
but it was during Von Munn's show. He's like, "Anyone that- Thursdays, noon to 3:00. Exactly. There you go. Best show ever. It was, it was, uh, like, anyone who, uh, do- you know, donates or commits, uh, 66
• 25:14
bucks or, you know- Yeah... whatever will get the, uh, fan club T-shirt. Got it. And I, I did the math, and I was like, if you... which is funny. If you
• 25:23
donate, uh, $5.55 for 12 months, it comes out to $66 and- And 66... 60 cents [laughs] for the year. [laughs] And I'm like, "Hey, I got, I got- That's a-... I got your 66 right, right here."
• 25:41
You see, my- And that was aw- I, like- I, I know we're not just d- we're not just spouting out about how great WMSC is. Oh, yeah. Oh, sure. But we should. We can say.
• 25:48
And there was one time where they was- We gotta celebrate shit... they, they were in the mid- middle of their pledge drive- We are in the middle of their pledge drive, so we'll pledge-... and someone-... for them.
• 25:55
Why the fuck not?... someone called in and pledged. We can say, "Fuck." [laughs] Yeah. And also tell them that, uh, Full Spectrum Cycling sent you. Sent you. Yeah. Yeah. Um- For sure...
• 26:02
one of my coworkers, which I did not know- [clears throat]... called in and made a donation towards the end of the pledge drive, and then they said, "Look,
• 26:12
we can end this pledge drive if someone'll donate X amount of dollars." And I'm like, "Molly, screw it. We're ending this pledge drive." So I called up, and I said, "What do you need?"
• 26:24
And they gave me the amount, and I'm like, "This pledge drive is over." As soon as I hung up the phone and they made the announcement, my coworker, Paul, called, and he's like, "Did you just end the pledge drive?"
• 26:34
I'm like, "Did you just donate the last donation before that?" He's like, "How cool are we?" [laughs] Pretty damn cool. So yes, yes. I, I... There is no better radio station in the world- Yes...
• 26:45
than 88pardon- Go to your internets-... 91.7... and hit... Yes. If you're in Milwaukee- Search for WMSC-... dot listen... listen anywhere you want. Yes. It is a phenomenal- The stream is very consistent and rock solid.
• 27:00
And you will learn a new band every day. Oh, yeah. That's- Every day. You will be like, "Wait, what is this? I have to check this out." I, I am a music omnivore, and- Yes, you are... it, it just...
• 27:09
Yeah, I, I get new shit constantly. They are, they... Yeah. I mean- You won't get that from, uh, the-... e- every so of- every so often, I'm going like, "Hey, did you just ta- "What is this?"...
• 27:17
you just tapped one of my damn playlists. I just heard this last night. Why am I listening to... You know, damn it. And, uh- Where else can you hear Windhand on the radio? Right, right. Or Bong Ripper or...
• 27:30
[laughs] Or insert here. Right. I mean, they play so many bands that no one else plays. It's like- Oh, yeah... Juicebox was on today. When, when, uh- I'm like, where... Who else plays Juicebox? Uh- Triple X. I would...
• 27:42
88.9 does, actually. Oh, do they on occasion? Yeah, yeah. Oh, yeah, I think they do. He's a local boy, so you gotta. Um, but, but who would play at least the first 30 minutes of, uh, Dopesmoker- Yeah...
• 27:54
when Sleep was in town? Jesus Christ, that was awesome. Or no, no, I think they played a full fucking hour. They just had, like, stopped at the half hour going like, "Hey, you know, this is WMSC 91.7." Yeah. You know?
• 28:08
It, it was like a legal ID on the bottom of the hour just to make sure everyone, you know, knew what the hell was going on- Yeah... 'cause there were no breakers in the- No breakers.
• 28:15
[laughs] We should go back and look at how many times we promote WMSC on this podcast, 'cause it's often, and you know what? It's not enough. We gotta get Billy back, goddamnit. We need to WMSC. I can't... We- Yeah...
• 28:25
he, he can't come in as Four Eyes, though. He has to come in as- Four Eyes... DJ Heavy Set?... DJ Heavy Set. Oh, my God. That's the best. I can get John Ziegler in here, I bet. He- oh, right on.
• 28:35
We can, we can get, uh- That would be ex- We can get Forward John in here, too. That would be exotic. Bulicki. Oh, that's right. Bulicki's a DJ, too. And I, I forgot about that. Yeah. What's Bulicki's slot?
• 28:45
It's, it's, it's the metal- Midnight to 3:00... it's the doom metal slot, right? Yeah. Uh, no, it's, uh- No, 3:00 AM to 6:00 AM, isn't it, on Saturdays? Yeah, Friday into Saturday, I think it is. Yeah. Brucity Brutality.
• 28:56
Metal. All right. All up metal. Well, I think WMSC got their money out of us. Well, I mean, they did get their money- Yeah, they did... out of us [laughs]... yeah, we donated, you donated, he donated.
• 29:04
Yeah, we're all good. But also- At, at, at, at the first of our- Even five bucks, people... in the first of the month, so $5.55 over 12 months comes out to 666. And, you know- [laughs]...
• 29:15
if you're really into the kinda branding thing, different pledge levels have different, uh- That's great stuff... stuff. I love my T-shirt I got this year. Your T-shirt was badass. Badass. I saw that T-shirt right away.
• 29:24
10 bucks a month, baby. That's what you get. That is a great T-shirt. All right. Long sleeve and everything. Yeah, and soft. As I'm wearing, you know. Soft. It's very- There we go. Look at-... soft...
• 29:34
JK's pulling out the old WMSC bottle opener. Oh. You know, that basic bottle opener design is in the Museum of Modern Art- 'Cause it's shit... in, in New York damn City. 'Cause it's gorgeous.
• 29:45
Minus the MSC logo and whatnot, but... [laughs] Uh, hey, we wanted to talk a little bit about active streets today. Yes. Oh, yeah. So I, I think- Mm... this is going on in other cities besides- Oh, yeah...
• 30:01
Milwaukee, but- Yeah, this is national... so cocky...
• 30:03
we may have mentioned in the past that just west of us, a half a block from the shop, may be a bike boulevard coming up by the end of the year, and it is now an active street, which is really cool because- Yeah...
• 30:13
it's blocked off to anything but local traffic, and it is spectacular. And it seems... Yeah.
• 30:19
On, on my, uh- It seems to be the active street in Bu- I, when, uh, the- Schlabowski was here, he was kind of, you know, yeah He was- Talking like the verbiage- Verbiage... are kind of interchangeable.
• 30:32
Well, on my, uh- You know, kind of thing. And I get it, and this is kind of what it will be. Yeah. It, it just kind of accel- On my way in today, there was a family walking in the street. Yeah.
• 30:40
Oh, yeah, there were, uh, roll, uh, roller- Yeah. Roller derby people? Roller, roller, roller skaters. Cool. No, no, just little kids roller skating- Yeah... in front of Messmer like, [singing] Yeah.
• 30:49
And like, what the hell on? I played in my street as a kid. I did not. [laughs] I lived on Grange. [laughs] Yeah, you don't want to do that. That's like a city, uh, or county highway.
• 31:00
[laughs] Yeah, that's a highway over there. [laughs] We didn't have no streets where I grew up. I just threw, I threw- We, we, we-... pine cones at cars driving by... we, we called them, we called them trails back then.
• 31:09
Yeah. Got your metal- Daddy used to run the wagon down the hill there. It was nice. Mm-hmm. Mm. [laughs] I beat him. I like, I, I like them French fry taters, I tell you. [clears throat] Don't hurt the boy.
• 31:25
That's why, mm. All right, so yeah. So it, it's really cool because it's starting to come together and it's, it's a little preemptive of the actual- Yeah...
• 31:33
build-out of the street, where they're gonna do some improvements to the actual- They're, they're showing the-... infrastructure Well, just to get- I think it's a really great idea they're closing the road ahead of time.
• 31:41
Yeah. And they're doing it to get- To get drivers to notice that, hey- Get the, get everyone ready for it... right. So- It's great. Brilliant... this is what you get.
• 31:46
You know, around the city of Milwaukee, there's approximately 10 miles of these streets in various neighborhoods, and there's, you know, a dozen of them. One, two, three, four, five, six of them.
• 31:56
So some of- So half a dozen of them. Yeah. And some of them are in parks, and some of them are in neighborhoods, and this is a- Some of them will get pushback and be like, "Hell no." Yeah. Well, you know what?
• 32:04
That's what we're here for. Those people- We'll fight them... those are the same non-wet, non-mask wearing motherfuckers. Non-mask- That, that, that-... wearing. Ma, ma, ma, ma... very easy for you to say.
• 32:13
Non-mask wearings. It wasn't that easy. Or it was terribly difficult for you to say that. I non-mask wearing. N-M-W-M-Fs. Anyway, so it is a- So buttons... on your underwear. [laughs] Zippers are out of style. Right?
• 32:28
Right. What's with that little flappy thing on underwear where you... Why don't you just, I don't know- That's for you to poop. Not that one. [laughs] The front one I think is what he's referring to.
• 32:36
[laughs] Yeah, my, my, my front poo. [laughs] Front poo. Maybe if you wear them backwards, you could use that for a trapdoor. Yes, for my mag- I think that's a good idea...
• 32:44
yes, I need to wear them backwards for my magnum cock. Who put the fo- [laughs] Who put the, who put the 4.3 meter social dist tandem on the thing? That would be me. What's that all about?
• 32:54
[laughs] Well- Well, did you click the link? Oh, that's a great one. I clicked in the link. I don't know. That's the, that's the [laughs] super wide tandem. Oh, yeah. Oh, for fuck's sake. Look at that thing.
• 33:02
[laughs] That is awesome. And I don't think that's a current picture. [laughs] No, no, that was, uh, start of May. Well, I'm kind of thinking it's a real one that they took- Well, it was start of May.
• 33:10
They took the middle out of it... they, they photoshopped out the two people in the middle of it. That's what I'm gonna guess too. Yeah, that's kind of what I'm guessing, but- Mm-mm.
• 33:16
That's a bottom bracket spot right there- Read the story... where that tube comes down. I don't know. You read the story, I didn't. [laughs] I just put the link up. [laughs] Well, the link's in the show notes, folks.
• 33:25
Make up your own minds. Is this a real thing or did they Photoshop out the people? Yeah. Please call in to 717- And then-... 27-2453 and let us know what you think... that spells bike.
• 33:34
And then you say, "I'm on Team JK," or, "I'm on Team Craig." It's Sven, you fuck. Sven. [laughs] Bike. God, we're throwing out vulgarities and shit. Whoa. Shit, fuck, piss, balls. Well, that's what 7% will get you.
• 33:48
Cocksuck, motherfucking tits. [laughs] Why is tits even there? Oh, yeah, the seven words you can't say on television. [laughs] Exactly. All right, George Carlin. Oh.
• 33:58
I guess, uh, uh, we'll be back next week with Dave Schlabowski, gonna talk about his, uh, up north adventures. And he- You're better, Dave... he did call up there and check with all the chamber- [laughs]...
• 34:09
as Dave would, the chambers of commerce or the, uh, the, the local authorities to see if it was okay to come up and- They were okay... his, his report is gonna be on what it's like now to do kind of a
• 34:22
bike-packing off the... You know, it, it, that's... There's not a lot of people up there. Sure. Right.
• 34:26
So it's, it's one of those areas like maybe in your state where it's not the big city, and what it's like to do a, a week-long, you know, kind of bike-packing trip like you wanna do
• 34:36
in the era of the dang old- COVID times... COVID thingamajigger. So next week, Schlabowski. Don't worry about it. See you, Dave. Bye, everyone.
• 34:48
  [upbeat rock music]
