- 0:00Speaker 1: And here he is America's favorite phase on Donald Phaison.
- 0:04Speaker 1: What were you guys just talking about? We were talking
- 0:07Speaker 1: about Oculus, But I don't want to talk about it
- 0:09Speaker 1: anymore because we already gave them a seven minute ad today,
- 0:13Speaker 1: did we give Okay, we can talk about it a
- 0:15Speaker 1: little bit. Joelle tried. Joelle tried to gain the paint game. Joelle,
- 0:20Speaker 1: howd it go? It was so cool? Um, I really
- 0:24Speaker 1: liked the star like thing. That was great. You can't
- 0:28Speaker 1: see stars where I live in Los Angeles. Um, but
- 0:31Speaker 1: I'm from the country US to live where the corn grows,
- 0:34Speaker 1: and I miss stars. And so I just spent like
- 0:36Speaker 1: twenty minutes and there just stargazing. And then I found
- 0:39Speaker 1: out you could get like a dress bust, you know
- 0:42Speaker 1: where they like pin all the clothes to it so
- 0:45Speaker 1: that you can like design clothes with the light in
- 0:47Speaker 1: different textures they have. So I made pretty dresses for
- 0:50Speaker 1: like twenty minutes. Oh, I didn't know you could make
- 0:53Speaker 1: make clothes. I'm gonna try that. Fun as hell. And
- 0:56Speaker 1: then yeah, walking around in your own like design and
- 1:00Speaker 1: some of the colors will like flash and do like
- 1:02Speaker 1: pretty rainbow things. It's very Um. If you were a
- 1:04Speaker 1: Lisa Frank person. Um, enjoy this app. You can be
- 1:09Speaker 1: your own Lisa Frank. I don't know who Lisa Frank is.
- 1:12Speaker 1: Oh my god. Okay. In the nineties Lisa Frank made
- 1:15Speaker 1: like trapper keepers and binders and folders, but they were
- 1:18Speaker 1: all like meon tigers and elephants and dolphins. Selphins were huge,
- 1:23Speaker 1: just beautiful, beautiful stuff. But all the girls in the
- 1:25Speaker 1: nineties I have Lisa Frank binders and such. Oh got it? Hey?
- 1:28Speaker 1: Did you get more Instagram followers because I blew up
- 1:30Speaker 1: your hot picture that you posted? I did. I think
- 1:34Speaker 1: maybe a thousand more people. Maybe a thousand. Yeah, that's wow,
- 1:38Speaker 1: that's a lot. I was gonna I was gonna write
- 1:40Speaker 1: something like, you know, only slide into your DMS if
- 1:43Speaker 1: you mean business. But then I said, I'm just gonna
- 1:45Speaker 1: not go don't don't don't do that, don't do that,
- 1:47Speaker 1: don't do that. I was worried she'd get dick picks,
- 1:49Speaker 1: so I did, Yeah, let me just censor the uh.
- 1:54Speaker 1: I don't you know what? You know what's interesting? Do
- 1:57Speaker 1: you go through like all of your emails Joe my emails? Yeah,
- 2:02Speaker 1: not your emails, your your DMS I'm sorry when I'll
- 2:07Speaker 1: scroll through them, because sometimes people have very lovely things
- 2:09Speaker 1: to say and they're like, I don't know how to
- 2:11Speaker 1: reach you, but I just want to say and I'm like,
- 2:12Speaker 1: oh my god, that's so nice. Thank you. If you're
- 2:15Speaker 1: sending me a picture, they're all blurred out. I don't
- 2:17Speaker 1: know what they say. I can't see them. I don't
- 2:19Speaker 1: look at them. They're probably here's a couple. I've opened
- 2:23Speaker 1: a few. Wom been like, that's a screwed to man.
- 2:25Speaker 1: I don't want it. And you men? What is it
- 2:29Speaker 1: with men sending dicks? I mean it's I mean, it's
- 2:31Speaker 1: obviously just a fucking power power thing. But I never understood, like,
- 2:35Speaker 1: what do they think the responses they're going to get
- 2:37Speaker 1: from sending a picture of their dick? I want to
- 2:39Speaker 1: put it in my mouth. They're never gonna get that.
- 2:42Speaker 1: I mean, if you're the one woman in the world
- 2:44Speaker 1: or man who's responded, mmm, looks good, then you've ruined
- 2:48Speaker 1: it for everybody because people a lot of people give
- 2:56Speaker 1: me shipped for eating popcorn yesterday. I'm sorry everybody. I'm sorry,
- 3:01Speaker 1: but you edited Dane, Yeah, I mean I had to
- 3:06Speaker 1: cut some of it out some of it was very explicit.
- 3:08Speaker 1: I'm sorry, sorry, don't know what happened, Daniel, what happened
- 3:11Speaker 1: to your webcam? Man? We don't need it's just it's
- 3:14Speaker 1: not working, right. I want the audience to know. I
- 3:16Speaker 1: just want the audience to know that Dann a very
- 3:19Speaker 1: fancy webcam because he's missed her computer guy and you
- 3:22Speaker 1: can't see him because it doesn't work. Stream will look better.
- 3:25Speaker 1: All it says is image edge webcam. Yeah, you're you're
- 3:32Speaker 1: literal imaging image. I would tell you if you're out
- 3:37Speaker 1: in the market for webcam, don't get an imaging edge one. Hey, Daniel,
- 3:46Speaker 1: do you want to plug your stream? Since I gave
- 3:47Speaker 1: Joella a shout out for for Instagram? What what is
- 3:50Speaker 1: your streaming? What's your streaming thing? Wat? You play? Stream
- 3:54Speaker 1: on Twitch at twitch dot tv, slash dj Underscore Daniel
- 3:58Speaker 1: like my Twitter handle um my stream on Wednesdays and
- 4:01Speaker 1: Sunday nights seven pm onward and um And what game
- 4:05Speaker 1: do you play? Yeah? Game play everything. Playing a lot
- 4:08Speaker 1: of the new season of Fall. Guys, there's a brand
- 4:11Speaker 1: new GTA five heist that came out today. I play
- 4:14Speaker 1: a lot that that GTA heist looks fire. I haven't.
- 4:21Speaker 1: I haven't played I haven't played gt Granted, I haven't
- 4:24Speaker 1: played GTA or Red Dead in about a year now
- 4:26Speaker 1: since I got home and COVID happened. And you know,
- 4:29Speaker 1: you can't, you can't just immerse yourself in these world
- 4:33Speaker 1: worlds for hours when you got you know, uh, eight
- 4:37Speaker 1: seven year old and a five year old running round
- 4:38Speaker 1: of course, of course, but there used to be a
- 4:41Speaker 1: big GTA guy. He was addicted making scrubs. You were playing, dude,
- 4:45Speaker 1: GTA got to well, I wonder how they're gonna address
- 4:49Speaker 1: it with the ps what is it a five now? Yeah?
- 4:53Speaker 1: And the Xbox what is it an Xbox, Xbox series
- 4:56Speaker 1: X whatever the whatever it is? Right, Yeah, there's so many,
- 5:00Speaker 1: there's so many consoles. But anyway, I wonder how they're
- 5:03Speaker 1: gonna address that because the graphics and the fluidity of
- 5:08Speaker 1: the original were always fire anyway, Like you could do
- 5:11Speaker 1: everything and anything in GTA. You can fly, you can
- 5:14Speaker 1: rob somebody. They even made it so you could rob
- 5:16Speaker 1: banks and stuff like that. Like they it gets to it.
- 5:20Speaker 1: It's high level, uh you know, scum and villainy, villainy. However,
- 5:25Speaker 1: he's a scum and villainy. Yeah, it's high level. How
- 5:28Speaker 1: do they address that? How do they address that with
- 5:31Speaker 1: the new consoles? How do they make it? How do
- 5:32Speaker 1: you make it more realistic than is the question? And
- 5:36Speaker 1: and can you make it virtual? Like what would be
- 5:40Speaker 1: fire for these games now is if what's the thing
- 5:44Speaker 1: that they had in that movie who had a boy
- 5:47Speaker 1: jumped on a treadmill and could run in any direction
- 5:51Speaker 1: if you could? Yeah, I love them first that they do. Yeah,
- 5:59Speaker 1: they have things like like, um, well, I know they
- 6:01Speaker 1: got the best. I know you put like wheeled sneakers
- 6:04Speaker 1: on and you and you walk around in this um
- 6:09Speaker 1: uh circle. Rig right, Daniel, you know what I'm talking about? Yeah,
- 6:12Speaker 1: oh absolutely. What's it called? I think it's called like
- 6:14Speaker 1: an omni omni track. You have like a little wasting
- 6:17Speaker 1: that goes around you and then it's like a treadmill
- 6:19Speaker 1: that just moves in any direction. They're very cool. That
- 6:22Speaker 1: would be that would be a really cool But yeah,
- 6:25Speaker 1: I don't know how you would. That would be really
- 6:28Speaker 1: cool if you could figure out a way to be
- 6:29Speaker 1: actually jump into the universe like in Ready Player one.
- 6:32Speaker 1: That's next. Obviously we're so far away from that, we're
- 6:36Speaker 1: something We're that far away from it. I mean, just
- 6:39Speaker 1: just messing around with the oculus too. Now I'm seeing
- 6:41Speaker 1: we're not far away from it. All right, we should
- 6:43Speaker 1: get to the show because people don't want to hear
- 6:44Speaker 1: another long VR conversation. I'm sure it was. It's just
- 6:47Speaker 1: so listen for all of you out there, I'm just saying,
- 6:50Speaker 1: they've got the PS five's and the Xbox whatever it is.
- 6:53Speaker 1: But I'm telling you that oculus. Man. All right, it's
- 6:56Speaker 1: a very special show, you know what. Amazing. First of all,
- 7:00Speaker 1: it's an amazing show. It's I may not know. I
- 7:03Speaker 1: did not know how emotional I was going to get
- 7:05Speaker 1: at the end of this. You hit me up and
- 7:07Speaker 1: you were like, Yo, it's uh, it's it's it's My
- 7:11Speaker 1: screw Up. Yeah. Should we have raiding on? And immediately
- 7:15Speaker 1: I was like, oh, snap, we're already yet the rating episode. Well, listen,
- 7:19Speaker 1: I had thought for since we started. Here's the thing
- 7:21Speaker 1: about My screw Up. It's a lot of people's favorite episodes.
- 7:24Speaker 1: It's one of the highest ranking episodes in terms of
- 7:27Speaker 1: like the way they write ranked people, fans ranked things
- 7:31Speaker 1: on TV dot com. It's ranked I read, I read,
- 7:34Speaker 1: It's tied for highest with an episode called my lunch
- 7:37Speaker 1: from season five, so it is a lot of people's
- 7:40Speaker 1: favorite episode. We had planned to have Brandon on, We
- 7:42Speaker 1: had planned to have Johnny on, but you know, between
- 7:45Speaker 1: COVID and the holidays and our schedules, everything's all fa cocky.
- 7:48Speaker 1: So I just said to Um, to Donald, why don't
- 7:51Speaker 1: we have Josh Raiden on? Because Josh Raiden, for those
- 7:53Speaker 1: of you don't know, Um wrote the song Winter that
- 7:56Speaker 1: plays at the end of the show, and that that
- 7:58Speaker 1: song launched his entire career. It broke him. It broke
- 8:02Speaker 1: him literally, it broke him. It turned him into the
- 8:06Speaker 1: Josh raiding that Listen, Man, I remember going to see Josh. Wait, wait,
- 8:09Speaker 1: let's save it. Let's invite him in, danil is he here?
- 8:13Speaker 1: Bring it in. Let's see what he looks like. Oh
- 8:15Speaker 1: the bunderus. Applause, Dan, I'm thunderous. Applause. Josh write. Okay, okay,
- 8:31Speaker 1: someone's had some coffee. Someone's had some coffee. He's barking.
- 8:34Speaker 1: This is my first podcast. We have, we started, we'd
- 8:37Speaker 1: already begune. We did a whole we did We've been
- 8:39Speaker 1: talking about you on the podcast tap. It's happening all right,
- 8:43Speaker 1: and we're back in Everybody. We had a very interesting
- 8:47Speaker 1: thing we edited out trying to educate a professional magician
- 8:50Speaker 1: how to record himself. Josh, why do you call him
- 8:53Speaker 1: a magician? Did you just call him a magician a musician?
- 8:56Speaker 1: How come, Josh, you don't know how to record yourself?
- 8:59Speaker 1: I remember called intelligent. We're so happy you're here, everybody. So,
- 9:05Speaker 1: if you don't know, Joshua Rading is my friend from
- 9:08Speaker 1: Northwestern and um he also he's my friend. He's my friend.
- 9:13Speaker 1: I introduced him to Donald Phazon one Vegas trip. That's
- 9:17Speaker 1: all it took, even before Vegas, though I met in
- 9:21Speaker 1: New York. We met in New York, dude, Jeff Sucker,
- 9:24Speaker 1: I know we met in New York. Josh, you were
- 9:27Speaker 1: there that night, back when you had a whole other life, man,
- 9:30Speaker 1: back before you were a musician, back when you were
- 9:33Speaker 1: dating another girl. Now now you're freaking a freaking I'm
- 9:37Speaker 1: gonna say it. You're a playboy, dog, You're a true player.
- 9:40Speaker 1: You're a rock star. Man. Do you know how hard
- 9:44Speaker 1: it is to be single and a pandemic? Oh? I
- 9:46Speaker 1: not feel for him, dude, he's doing this all alone.
- 9:49Speaker 1: You can't date. And then Joel knows you can't date
- 9:52Speaker 1: during during COVID and die. So yeah, but you could
- 9:56Speaker 1: set up so much stuff and when COVID's over just
- 9:58Speaker 1: played out, you can. I mean, you got the gift, man,
- 10:01Speaker 1: you got the voice, and you got the guitar. That
- 10:04Speaker 1: is all you need. I know. But that should be
- 10:07Speaker 1: put on layaway and people out there. I'll be like, Okay,
- 10:10Speaker 1: I will wait until two twenty twenty two to give up.
- 10:16Speaker 1: Kind of somebody's good. It's one thing to be like
- 10:19Speaker 1: laying foundation, Joel. I'm sure is laying some foundation, right, Joel,
- 10:23Speaker 1: you're flirting too a little bit. I work, you're working.
- 10:28Speaker 1: I got the job done at a time. Well, but
- 10:32Speaker 1: I just I get the job done well anyway. So, Josh,
- 10:37Speaker 1: you met Donald for the first time our infamous Big night.
- 10:40Speaker 1: Josh was um my great friend in New York, and
- 10:43Speaker 1: then I got Scrubs, and um we went through it
- 10:46Speaker 1: all together. We went through the life change, right, Josh,
- 10:50Speaker 1: I watched some pretty hilarious things. Yeah, and Donald Donald
- 10:54Speaker 1: and I were instantly inseparable, and Josh was there with
- 10:58Speaker 1: us through many an adventure. Listen, man, your best friend
- 11:03Speaker 1: become famous is is a very interesting thing, and vice versa.
- 11:08Speaker 1: Dude and vice versa. No, I mean when I mean
- 11:11Speaker 1: when I say famous, I mean the kind of famous
- 11:13Speaker 1: that we'd walked down the street in New York and
- 11:14Speaker 1: sometimes I would walk like, you know, ten feet behind
- 11:18Speaker 1: Zach through the city just to watch people right after
- 11:21Speaker 1: they pass him go, oh my god, that was Zach breath.
- 11:23Speaker 1: Oh my god's the guy from Scrubs. You know. It
- 11:26Speaker 1: was so funny to watch people's reactions to see, um,
- 11:30Speaker 1: I still do that to myself in real time. It
- 11:32Speaker 1: was cool just to piggyback on that, you know, Josh,
- 11:37Speaker 1: at least I could say for myself. I remember going
- 11:39Speaker 1: to like the hotel cafe or to like you know,
- 11:44Speaker 1: I guess, yeah, just the hotel cafe really, and it
- 11:47Speaker 1: being empty and it just being me, Zach, Mandy Moore,
- 11:52Speaker 1: and Minka Kelly, and that was it in the in
- 11:55Speaker 1: the audience watching you perform, and you would go on
- 11:58Speaker 1: after like some other act and some other act, and
- 12:01Speaker 1: then it would be just you and you'd get to
- 12:03Speaker 1: do like three songs, and we'd wait the whole night
- 12:06Speaker 1: for you to go up and perform. Dude, and that's
- 12:08Speaker 1: you and now and then so and then so. It
- 12:12Speaker 1: blew my mind, And I'm gonna say this. You know,
- 12:15Speaker 1: it's great that you know, the music was on scrubs
- 12:17Speaker 1: and everything like that, but there was still struggle after
- 12:20Speaker 1: the music was on scrubs and people don't really know
- 12:22Speaker 1: that shit. You know, the song was brought and everything
- 12:24Speaker 1: like that, but you know, it wasn't like you know,
- 12:27Speaker 1: it wasn't like an overnight all of a sudden instant thing.
- 12:31Speaker 1: You know what I mean. It's I'm still waiting for
- 12:33Speaker 1: that big break. Well, Josh, tell everyone, do we ever
- 12:39Speaker 1: count in? I forgot about six seven eight stories about
- 12:43Speaker 1: show we made about a bunch of nurses and stories
- 12:52Speaker 1: never so yead around here, yeato around you here? Did
- 13:05Speaker 1: you guys see that? Josh, Josh Raydon kaijacking the Five Secrets.
- 13:09Speaker 1: Usually the guests wait for permission, but no, Josh, Um
- 13:14Speaker 1: longtime listeners, Zac tell everyone, Actually, Josh is one of
- 13:17Speaker 1: my few friends. Uh. Josh and my girlfriend's mom are
- 13:20Speaker 1: the only people left in my life that's still listened
- 13:22Speaker 1: to the podcast. Your mom doesn't listen anymore. I don't
- 13:25Speaker 1: think my mom, Well she might, but she doesn't mention it. Um.
- 13:30Speaker 1: Carrie Brothers mentioned I was on Mark Marron's podcast. He
- 13:33Speaker 1: like Loved You on Mark Maron's podcast. He doesn't bring
- 13:35Speaker 1: up this podcast anymore. Um, but Josh raydon Um often
- 13:39Speaker 1: listens when he's hiking. As I understand it, right, Josh,
- 13:42Speaker 1: I know Johnny still listens to the podcast. Actually cast
- 13:45Speaker 1: your podcast for the Well, I've told you this, but
- 13:47Speaker 1: I'll tell your listeners right when the world shut down.
- 13:52Speaker 1: I live here in la as you guys do, and
- 13:55Speaker 1: I live up in the hills, and there's all these
- 13:56Speaker 1: like stone stairs that go through the hills. These secret
- 13:59Speaker 1: stone stairs that I COVID got me so scared that
- 14:02Speaker 1: I wanted to get in good cardiovascular shape because obviously
- 14:07Speaker 1: the better shape you're in for a respiratory disease of
- 14:12Speaker 1: you are. So I started running up and down these
- 14:15Speaker 1: stairs every morning, and the podcast was the only thing
- 14:18Speaker 1: that got me through. Well, that's great. We've had a
- 14:20Speaker 1: lot of people say they exercised and inspired them, and
- 14:24Speaker 1: that makes us very happy. I do have to say
- 14:25Speaker 1: I didn't get to see you guys for so long
- 14:27Speaker 1: until we like we formed a pod and then I
- 14:29Speaker 1: could see you in like in our backyards or just
- 14:31Speaker 1: our few, you know, tightest friends. But it was like
- 14:35Speaker 1: I went like a good six weeks, seven weeks without
- 14:37Speaker 1: seeing one single person, you know, just sitting in my
- 14:40Speaker 1: house by myself and so listening to you guys talk, uh,
- 14:43Speaker 1: you know twice a week. Was was just saved my life. Really,
- 14:48Speaker 1: you know, we don't never talk about that type of stuff,
- 14:51Speaker 1: being by yourself for six weeks, Josh, other than like,
- 14:55Speaker 1: I guess face timing, and how did you how did
- 14:59Speaker 1: you cope with that when COVID first hit, Joell, you
- 15:02Speaker 1: have your brother with you, right, yeah, Joel has her brother.
- 15:04Speaker 1: Josh was totally alone. You were dolo basically. It's it's
- 15:09Speaker 1: interestingly I finished my European tour. I was mid January
- 15:13Speaker 1: to mid February this year in a different city in
- 15:17Speaker 1: Europe every day, like hugging people, shaking hands, you know,
- 15:20Speaker 1: meeting so many different people every day, right when COVID
- 15:23Speaker 1: was kind of like starting, but it wasn't a big
- 15:25Speaker 1: thing yet. People were like, oh, what's this, you know,
- 15:28Speaker 1: And so I got really sick for the whole month
- 15:30Speaker 1: of that tour. I had this weird throat infection, but
- 15:33Speaker 1: it was before we knew really what it was. And
- 15:35Speaker 1: then I finally just got over it. And but it
- 15:37Speaker 1: culminated in Italy in mid February, you know, which was
- 15:40Speaker 1: one of the hot spots. Wow, which is one of
- 15:42Speaker 1: the hots wow? Right then, I mean I was like
- 15:45Speaker 1: I had to postpone a show in Rome because I
- 15:47Speaker 1: lost my voice and anyway, So I think I had it,
- 15:49Speaker 1: but I don't really know. Everybody. Everybody has that story, right,
- 15:53Speaker 1: everybody has it. I think I had it. I don't
- 15:56Speaker 1: have that. I don't. I don't think I had it.
- 15:57Speaker 1: But Josh, did you get the anybody test? Or did
- 15:59Speaker 1: it go away? I went into our doctor, as you know,
- 16:03Speaker 1: we share a doctor, and I got the antibody's test,
- 16:06Speaker 1: but it was like six months later, and they were
- 16:08Speaker 1: He said, you don't even know if these tests are
- 16:10Speaker 1: going to give a false positive or pulse negative. We
- 16:12Speaker 1: don't you know. Anybody's my only last two or three months,
- 16:16Speaker 1: you know. So it turns out I didn't have them
- 16:18Speaker 1: after all that time. But my point I was making
- 16:20Speaker 1: was that, right, I just finished touring this new album,
- 16:23Speaker 1: all of it, and I thought to myself, I'm gonna
- 16:25Speaker 1: go home and sit in my house by myself and
- 16:27Speaker 1: write a new album and not see anyone for like
- 16:30Speaker 1: three months. And then it's basically going to turn into
- 16:33Speaker 1: a year and a half of not seeing anyone. But
- 16:35Speaker 1: I did know we at least folded you into our pods.
- 16:38Speaker 1: We can see you, We see you. You're gonna come
- 16:40Speaker 1: over for for Jesus's birthday. That's true, and neither one
- 16:45Speaker 1: of you. You both are freaking yahweh is looking down
- 16:49Speaker 1: on YouTube like, no, y'all weighs down for us to
- 16:53Speaker 1: celebrate a very nice Jewish man's birthday. Yeah. Also it's
- 16:58Speaker 1: actually friend is not Jewish and is a huge Christmas
- 17:02Speaker 1: lover and she's very into so we're gonna very supportive
- 17:06Speaker 1: of her first Christmas in la Um. I wanted to
- 17:09Speaker 1: say that you give up your identity. You hate your
- 17:12Speaker 1: own people. You two, you hate your own people. Josh
- 17:15Speaker 1: is skimming over the fact that he didn't just get
- 17:18Speaker 1: in respiratory shape. He got in the sickest shape I've
- 17:20Speaker 1: ever seen him in. Yeah he had he No, he's
- 17:23Speaker 1: got the sea gutters, dude, He's got the whole thing.
- 17:25Speaker 1: I know him. Oh wait, Joel, you don't like head, Okay,
- 17:33Speaker 1: so what is this? I just want to know what
- 17:37Speaker 1: is a sea gutter? Um? I don't want to see
- 17:39Speaker 1: it in front Juell, Joel, can you take your headphones
- 17:41Speaker 1: off from go ahead? All right, Joel took her headphones off.
- 17:44Speaker 1: Um it's the calm cum gutters and um it's funder
- 17:47Speaker 1: the whoa whoa under the abs right here, um like
- 17:52Speaker 1: like the V and and theoretically I'm sorry ear moms
- 17:56Speaker 1: if you're in the car um with your kids. But um,
- 17:59Speaker 1: it's where the semen would would likely gather like a gutter. Okay,
- 18:03Speaker 1: so all right, Joel, put your head hold on hold
- 18:09Speaker 1: on no no no no no no no no no no no.
- 18:12Speaker 1: You don't necessarily have Okay, she's a grown ass woman.
- 18:15Speaker 1: You don't necessarily have to be in shape to have. Yes,
- 18:18Speaker 1: you do the kind of I have talking Brad. I'm
- 18:21Speaker 1: telling Brad pennon fight Club the v Wait, he could
- 18:26Speaker 1: catch it in all of it, he could catch it.
- 18:28Speaker 1: All right, we're traded on this podcast. It's all just audio. Right,
- 18:32Speaker 1: it's just audio. Show us. Yeah, show show Josh and
- 18:36Speaker 1: show this. See those look at this ship. Yeah you
- 18:44Speaker 1: didn't know that. Donald. I didn't know that. The last
- 18:46Speaker 1: time I saw him he was kind of getting into dude.
- 18:49Speaker 1: He looks like that now thanks thanks to the podcast.
- 18:52Speaker 1: What do you got the peloton. No, you got the stairs.
- 18:55Speaker 1: You got the stairs, the stairs, you got the stairs.
- 18:58Speaker 1: He was more than that. Though. You can't just high
- 19:00Speaker 1: can get abs like that dog. He changed his whole diet.
- 19:02Speaker 1: He changes. I don't know. I don't know where to
- 19:05Speaker 1: where I would put a peloton in my house. I'd
- 19:06Speaker 1: have to put it outside. I don't think you can
- 19:08Speaker 1: do that because then I could back. You eat in dog,
- 19:11Speaker 1: what you're eating, you're not eating. He doesn't. He doesn't
- 19:15Speaker 1: smoke weed because it gives him much. You stopped smoking weed. Yeah,
- 19:19Speaker 1: I've been eating healthy. He's smoking cigarettes. Oh, I haven't
- 19:23Speaker 1: smoke cigarettes in years. Good Josh was a big smoker,
- 19:26Speaker 1: and ladies and gentlemen. He is proof that a hypnotist
- 19:29Speaker 1: can work because he went to a hypnotist once and
- 19:31Speaker 1: never smoked again. Right, Josh, it you know I didn't
- 19:34Speaker 1: have a drag of a cigarette after that for about
- 19:38Speaker 1: ten years. And then I went through a bad breakup
- 19:40Speaker 1: with my ex girlfriend and started a little bit again.
- 19:44Speaker 1: And then about the hypnotists work. Speaking speaking speaking a
- 19:47Speaker 1: bad break he probably doesn't want to talk about his break. No,
- 19:50Speaker 1: but speaking a bad breakups, let's just get into the song.
- 19:52Speaker 1: Now then Ladies and Gentlemen, Paperweight, No No, Donald and
- 19:57Speaker 1: I have Donald and I share um. One of our
- 20:02Speaker 1: favorite Josh raids. We played it on the show Paperweight.
- 20:04Speaker 1: That's one of our favorites. I remember, thank you for
- 20:06Speaker 1: doing that. I listened to that episode us in so
- 20:09Speaker 1: many movies. Man Josh's music. All right, we gotta go back.
- 20:19Speaker 1: We're being bad interviewers here, we're jumping around. I got
- 20:22Speaker 1: distracted by his sea gutters. Now, Josh h Um, tell
- 20:29Speaker 1: everyone the story. So, Josh Um, I mean, because you
- 20:33Speaker 1: just just give everyone a cliff notes version of your trajectory.
- 20:37Speaker 1: Because you were a screenwriter in You're a screenwriter in Manhattan.
- 20:40Speaker 1: With with you and I we became friendly being young
- 20:43Speaker 1: aspiring writers in Manhattan. And then just give everyone some
- 20:48Speaker 1: some some bullet points of what happened to you. Well, yeah,
- 20:51Speaker 1: I was a struggling screenwriter. I had I was waiting
- 20:55Speaker 1: tables and doing you know, catering gigs and things like
- 20:58Speaker 1: that in New York star artists sort of stuff. And
- 21:03Speaker 1: then I'd go down to the cafe every morning and
- 21:06Speaker 1: you know, when I wasn't working some other gig and
- 21:09Speaker 1: write screenplays. I had written like six features, and you
- 21:11Speaker 1: and I would give each other notes. I remember the
- 21:15Speaker 1: first incarnation of Garden State when it was called Largest Arc,
- 21:19Speaker 1: and it was like sixty pages longer than what I'd
- 21:22Speaker 1: ended up becoming. But I remember when you gave that
- 21:24Speaker 1: to me after you had read a couple of mine,
- 21:26Speaker 1: and I was like, I was writing like big budget
- 21:29Speaker 1: romantic comedies or you know, things that might maybe like
- 21:31Speaker 1: a Will Ferrell or Ben Stiller. At the time, I
- 21:33Speaker 1: was like, that would be great if I could get
- 21:35Speaker 1: guys like that. And you gave me the Largest Arc
- 21:43Speaker 1: to read and to give you notes, and I just
- 21:45Speaker 1: remember thinking, this is like real, this is making me
- 21:49Speaker 1: feel something. I'm not doing it right, and I just
- 21:55Speaker 1: sort of felt like it sort of inspired me too.
- 21:59Speaker 1: I had never played music in my whole life. I
- 22:01Speaker 1: had never grown up playing music or taking any instrument
- 22:04Speaker 1: lessons or anything like that, and so I was about
- 22:08Speaker 1: to turn thirty years old, and I was struggling as
- 22:11Speaker 1: an artist, and I just thought, maybe I'm doing these
- 22:15Speaker 1: things for the wrong reasons. I'm trying to write these
- 22:17Speaker 1: screenplays to sell them, rather than like writing what I know,
- 22:20Speaker 1: or writing what I'm really passionate about, or making myself
- 22:24Speaker 1: vulnerable in some way with my writing. And so I
- 22:27Speaker 1: started playing guitar and learning a few chords and learned
- 22:31Speaker 1: a few covers, and then I knew enough chords on
- 22:36Speaker 1: the guitar after learning a couple of Dylan songs that
- 22:41Speaker 1: I was like, well, I'm a writer. Maybe I'll try
- 22:43Speaker 1: to write my own song. And I wrote this song Winter.
- 22:48Speaker 1: It was the first song I wrote. And I remember
- 22:50Speaker 1: we were sitting in You and I were sitting in
- 22:52Speaker 1: my apartment in the East Village in New York, and
- 22:54Speaker 1: you saw a guitar in my living room, sitting up
- 22:56Speaker 1: against the wall, and you were like, I didn't know
- 22:58Speaker 1: you played guitar. And I was like, well, I don't
- 22:59Speaker 1: really play. I'm just kind of learning. And I learned
- 23:02Speaker 1: a few chords and a few cover songs, and and
- 23:04Speaker 1: he said, uh, we'll play me something. I was like, oh,
- 23:07Speaker 1: I could never do that. I at the time, I
- 23:10Speaker 1: couldn't even open my eyes when I was playing the song.
- 23:14Speaker 1: I was so nervous to play in front of anybody anyway,
- 23:17Speaker 1: So I made you turn around. I don't know if
- 23:19Speaker 1: you remember it. I do remember that you said, don't
- 23:21Speaker 1: look at me. Don't you look at me wow, and
- 23:25Speaker 1: uh And I remember this vividly. I played this song
- 23:31Speaker 1: Winter and you turned around and your eyes were like
- 23:33Speaker 1: a little watery and it had affected you. And I
- 23:36Speaker 1: was like, Wow, that's cool. That nothing I've written, you know,
- 23:39Speaker 1: in terms of screenplays or paintings I painted or anything
- 23:42Speaker 1: like that, I'd ever I'd ever seen that kind of
- 23:45Speaker 1: response from someone other than like my mom, you know,
- 23:48Speaker 1: or dad or you know. And uh, so coming from
- 23:51Speaker 1: a dear friend, it was really cool and it's sort
- 23:54Speaker 1: of I don't know. I remember you said to me,
- 23:57Speaker 1: I really love that song. Um, you should probably maybe
- 24:01Speaker 1: make a demo of it or something, you know. Scrubs
- 24:03Speaker 1: and Bills, Bill and Christa. They're always looking for new music,
- 24:07Speaker 1: especially the music that they can afford, because at the time,
- 24:11Speaker 1: it wasn't sinks. It wasn't like it as now. You
- 24:14Speaker 1: wouldn't turn on the TV and hear a Stones song
- 24:18Speaker 1: or a Beatles song or something like that. They were
- 24:19Speaker 1: way too expensive. It was pre streaming, so people were
- 24:22Speaker 1: still making money in the music industry, big legends. It
- 24:26Speaker 1: was a good time for at the time we were
- 24:29Speaker 1: making Scrubs was an amazing time for singer songwriters like
- 24:33Speaker 1: Josh because, like he said, the big famous songs, they
- 24:38Speaker 1: might splurge a couple of times, as Bill did in
- 24:41Speaker 1: this show and pay for a big song. But in
- 24:43Speaker 1: Josh's you know, it was a great opening for a
- 24:46Speaker 1: singer songwriter because they were they were they were moving
- 24:48Speaker 1: and beautiful, but gettable and affordable. So essentially it was
- 24:51Speaker 1: the gold Rush for people like me. So we moved,
- 24:54Speaker 1: all these musicians moved from New York out to LA
- 24:56Speaker 1: where the music supervisors and the TV shows and the
- 24:59Speaker 1: movies are made. And I'd play in this little place
- 25:02Speaker 1: called though. Oh sorry, but I've skipped over this part
- 25:05Speaker 1: where the most important part actually, because it has to
- 25:07Speaker 1: do with scrubs. So you said, you know, maybe make
- 25:10Speaker 1: a demo of that song. So I went into carry
- 25:13Speaker 1: brothers are their best friend, into his bedroom. He had
- 25:17Speaker 1: a little pro tools rag on an old Mac, and
- 25:21Speaker 1: I just played it live and then recorded a harmony
- 25:24Speaker 1: over it. I mean, as demo as you can get.
- 25:26Speaker 1: It's not mixing, no mastering, nothing like, no, it's one take.
- 25:31Speaker 1: And sent the demo to you. You forwarded it onto
- 25:34Speaker 1: Bill Lawrence and like, I don't know, like two three
- 25:38Speaker 1: weeks later, I get a call from Bill, and he's like, hey,
- 25:41Speaker 1: do you mind if I that that song works perfectly
- 25:43Speaker 1: in this episode? Do you mind if we use it?
- 25:45Speaker 1: And I was like, are you kidding? Is the first song,
- 25:48Speaker 1: the first song you'd ever written that was only recorded
- 25:51Speaker 1: just with a mic and a guitar on pro tools,
- 25:54Speaker 1: no nothing else except for one pro tools back that
- 25:57Speaker 1: it was like Carrie didn't have, like a real studio,
- 26:00Speaker 1: was like a This was like a little rig we had.
- 26:02Speaker 1: So the recording we hear in the show is just
- 26:05Speaker 1: you in Carry's bedroom, Yeah, on a fifty eight mic,
- 26:09Speaker 1: Like I mean, as basic as you can get, well,
- 26:13Speaker 1: and then I'll take it from there. I just this
- 26:16Speaker 1: this section. I remember I always was playing music for
- 26:18Speaker 1: Bill and he flipped out over this. We I had
- 26:22Speaker 1: no idea this would become such a popular episode, but
- 26:24Speaker 1: it was obviously, you know, became enormous. And then everyone
- 26:29Speaker 1: started searching for Josh's music. But the thing is he
- 26:32Speaker 1: didn't have any songs. He only had one song, right Carry.
- 26:38Speaker 1: I remember Carrie when it was airing, Kerry's like, you
- 26:41Speaker 1: need a MySpace page, you know, so if people search
- 26:43Speaker 1: for you or whatever. So I didn't. I was even
- 26:46Speaker 1: more computer or literate back then, although nothing's really changed.
- 26:50Speaker 1: And so carry set up my MySpace page. It was
- 26:53Speaker 1: or a little website which is a picture of me
- 26:56Speaker 1: and a link where you could just listen to Winter
- 26:59Speaker 1: the demo. And it was really cool because Bill told
- 27:03Speaker 1: me afterwards, and you told me afterwards that after the
- 27:05Speaker 1: show aired, Uh, well, you guys were on NBC then
- 27:09Speaker 1: before you had switched to ABC. So the NBC website
- 27:12Speaker 1: crashed after the episode aired. From so many people around
- 27:16Speaker 1: the world trying to find out where to get that
- 27:18Speaker 1: song or whose song that wasn't Oh my god, well
- 27:21Speaker 1: there goes screenwriting. I'm moving to LA and become a musician. Yeah.
- 27:25Speaker 1: So I had goose bumps when you told me that.
- 27:27Speaker 1: Just now that was that's such a great story. I
- 27:29Speaker 1: mean yeah, and and and it's just like it's like
- 27:31Speaker 1: when Susan Boyle came out and sang lay miss, you know,
- 27:34Speaker 1: everyone was like, oh my god, but I hear I
- 27:38Speaker 1: didn't hear what you said. I didn't. I didn't. I
- 27:40Speaker 1: don't get the Susan Boyle. Susan Boyle was that. I know,
- 27:43Speaker 1: I know who she is. I just don't understand how
- 27:45Speaker 1: well it was so moving and it was one of
- 27:47Speaker 1: those moments where I'm very moved, as I'm sure the
- 27:50Speaker 1: world is, because these shows are so popular. When someone
- 27:53Speaker 1: comes out and it's Susan Boyle and you're not expecting
- 27:55Speaker 1: it and they have a voice that makes you just
- 27:59Speaker 1: your jaw drop and you clutch your head like, oh
- 28:01Speaker 1: my god, where has this woman been? It's so moving
- 28:03Speaker 1: she can perform like that, And I'm just saying it
- 28:07Speaker 1: was It reminded me of Josh being like, he's he's
- 28:09Speaker 1: thirty years old. He was he hasn't sold a screen play,
- 28:12Speaker 1: he was feeling, he was going through a bad breakup, um,
- 28:16Speaker 1: and all of a sudden his entire life changed because
- 28:19Speaker 1: he wrote, has had the courage to write his very
- 28:22Speaker 1: first song, and the talent well, and I happened to
- 28:25Speaker 1: be best friends with a guy who was the star
- 28:27Speaker 1: of a TV show looking for music. So I mean
- 28:28Speaker 1: it's a combination of as most people will tell you
- 28:31Speaker 1: in the entertainment business is it's a combination of talent
- 28:35Speaker 1: and work, but also who you know, and of course
- 28:39Speaker 1: of course, but but but but you know, all those
- 28:42Speaker 1: things line up. Of course access is key, um and
- 28:45Speaker 1: and but but still, Bill wouldn't have even listened to
- 28:49Speaker 1: four seconds of my friend's shitty song. You know well,
- 28:53Speaker 1: I will also say that even after that episode aired
- 28:55Speaker 1: and we're talking about it wasn't like this overnight thing
- 28:57Speaker 1: where all of a sudden I was like a rock star.
- 28:59Speaker 1: It was like, man, I remember, I remember to day.
- 29:03Speaker 1: I mean it was brick by brick still, I mean
- 29:06Speaker 1: sixteen sixteen years later, and it's still like your music
- 29:10Speaker 1: industries gets hurt every year, but you are able to
- 29:14Speaker 1: um make a living as an artist, and so you
- 29:17Speaker 1: are blessed as we all are in that way. And
- 29:19Speaker 1: in normal times, Josh tours all over the world, so
- 29:23Speaker 1: you should always look where what's your website? We'll get
- 29:26Speaker 1: your plug in now, Josh, what's their website to search
- 29:28Speaker 1: for where you tour? And shit? Well, uh, Joshua raidin
- 29:32Speaker 1: dot com and raidings spelled our A D I N
- 29:36Speaker 1: that's correct. And then what do you do? Josh? You've
- 29:38Speaker 1: been doing this. We're gonna talk with the episode. Everyone
- 29:40Speaker 1: stopped freaking out. Um, Josh, what are you're doing? This
- 29:43Speaker 1: interesting thing? Now? You're doing sort of private home concerts.
- 29:46Speaker 1: How do people find out about that? UM? On my
- 29:49Speaker 1: website you can you can see it it's just a link.
- 29:51Speaker 1: That's it's a company called Topeka Live that started, um
- 29:55Speaker 1: after when this pandemic started. It's just some guys I
- 29:59Speaker 1: knew that started this company to help musicians kind of
- 30:02Speaker 1: engage with their audiences all over the world and play
- 30:05Speaker 1: live through these zoom shows. UM So I've been doing
- 30:08Speaker 1: that a lot this year. Um So, you can have
- 30:11Speaker 1: about you could have a zoom part, like if your
- 30:13Speaker 1: friends all love Josh, you could have like a zoom
- 30:16Speaker 1: party in joshull you hire Josh to comply, or you
- 30:18Speaker 1: can even just have a song with your with your lover.
- 30:21Speaker 1: It's a bunch of different options, and it's it's been
- 30:24Speaker 1: very It's I might, I might get paperweight for me
- 30:27Speaker 1: and Donald. How much Donald do you want to want
- 30:29Speaker 1: to put that with me? It's pretty cool because the
- 30:32Speaker 1: company a portion of every zoom whether it's a serenade
- 30:36Speaker 1: that's like one song and you get like a chat
- 30:38Speaker 1: fifteen minutes, or it's like a forty five little minute
- 30:41Speaker 1: mini concert you get like six songs, you request the
- 30:44Speaker 1: songs whatever we chat. You can do like six different
- 30:47Speaker 1: windows of zooms of people all over the world. If
- 30:49Speaker 1: you have how much for you to show your Sea Gutters.
- 30:51Speaker 1: Is that is there an option for that for that, um,
- 30:56Speaker 1: maybe just for for for Zach and Donald. Wait, hold up,
- 30:59Speaker 1: do you have a only fans Josh? Only fans? I'm
- 31:04Speaker 1: not sure what that is. Okay, you need to get fans.
- 31:07Speaker 1: You need to get you only fans back right away.
- 31:09Speaker 1: I was gonna say, but um, what What also is
- 31:13Speaker 1: cool about this Topeka Live is that a portion of
- 31:15Speaker 1: every thing that people purchase goes to this really cool
- 31:18Speaker 1: charity UM that helps families get out of poverty. So
- 31:22Speaker 1: it's like a win for everybody. That's really awesome. But
- 31:24Speaker 1: you need to get an only fans. Yeah, we want
- 31:26Speaker 1: everyone's everyone wants to see. Only fans will allow you
- 31:29Speaker 1: to show nudes and let let all your fans really
- 31:31Speaker 1: enjoy all of you. If you got if you gotta
- 31:36Speaker 1: show Sea gutters, if you gotta show Sea gutters, get
- 31:38Speaker 1: you only fans. All right, let's talk. Donald. Are you
- 31:41Speaker 1: ready with your summary? Josh? We're gonna let you sit
- 31:45Speaker 1: in because you're a VIP guest as we discussed the episode. Donald,
- 31:49Speaker 1: as you know from being discussed the episode, am I
- 31:51Speaker 1: allowed to talk? But yeah, of course we want your input. Okay, Um, Okay, wait,
- 31:57Speaker 1: let me get my tire, I stop watch and go
- 32:02Speaker 1: Carlos keeping her last name, Turk's mole is alive, Doctor
- 32:06Speaker 1: Clox blames Jadep for the death of a patient, and
- 32:09Speaker 1: Elliot's Bunyan is nightmarish. This episode is a lot, so
- 32:14Speaker 1: it's hard to summarize in thirty seconds. Brendan Fraser and
- 32:17Speaker 1: Tara Reid are back, and all of our character storylines
- 32:21Speaker 1: blend together and intertwined. Other than the obvious, one storyline
- 32:26Speaker 1: really stood out for me. Who are we when we
- 32:29Speaker 1: show ourselves to the world? Are you your true self?
- 32:32Speaker 1: Or do you hide behind a persona? It's always a
- 32:36Speaker 1: pleasant surprise when you get a positive reaction from a
- 32:39Speaker 1: negative person. Kelso storyline really softens you up before the
- 32:44Speaker 1: big reveal at the end of this show. Yeah, that's true.
- 32:48Speaker 1: Forty six seconds for that one guy making the graph
- 32:51Speaker 1: every day of how long on Donald is one guy
- 32:54Speaker 1: can lick my my But he's not. It's not a
- 32:59Speaker 1: negative thing, he just is. He's just doing an artful
- 33:02Speaker 1: graph of help. Yeah. But the way you're the way
- 33:03Speaker 1: you're using him to criticize me makes me want to
- 33:10Speaker 1: tell him to eat a dick. Yeah, you know that's
- 33:13Speaker 1: sometimes or a guy just making a graph. Um, all right, listen, Um,
- 33:17Speaker 1: it's a legendary episode, guys. Um, I gotta say in
- 33:21Speaker 1: in in my eight point five years on this show, Um,
- 33:24Speaker 1: this is the one that people bring up most to me.
- 33:26Speaker 1: I think, right, Donald, would you say that I get this?
- 33:29Speaker 1: I get this one a lot in a musical episode.
- 33:31Speaker 1: It's like, it's like the sixth sense? Is that the right? Yeah?
- 33:35Speaker 1: I think that Bill. Bill has said that was an inspiration.
- 33:38Speaker 1: Obviously it is the because once you see it happen,
- 33:43Speaker 1: you get it automatically, like you see when it all
- 33:45Speaker 1: goes down. Were watching now, watching it right? Watching it now?
- 33:49Speaker 1: The last time you watch it, you don't necessarily pick
- 33:52Speaker 1: up on it. I don't think i'd never gone back,
- 33:55Speaker 1: Like Donald and I have said, we never we never really.
- 33:57Speaker 1: We'd occasionally watched these when I don't know about you,
- 34:00Speaker 1: but I would watch them maybe when they aired, and
- 34:01Speaker 1: then I eventually stopped. And I obviously saw cuts of
- 34:04Speaker 1: the ones I directed. I would probably seed them all
- 34:06Speaker 1: up until nine, but I never saw them again. And
- 34:09Speaker 1: so this one now, watching knowing what you know about
- 34:12Speaker 1: Ben is really interesting. It's really fun to watch. I
- 34:14Speaker 1: reckon if you're not watching these as we go back,
- 34:16Speaker 1: if this would be the one to do it, because
- 34:18Speaker 1: once you know the ben reveal, it's fun to watch
- 34:21Speaker 1: it and knowing what you know it really is because
- 34:26Speaker 1: when it happens, you automatically know exactly what JD's talking about.
- 34:31Speaker 1: First of all, JD's kind of like a real cavalier
- 34:36Speaker 1: about time. But also I was gonna say that I didn't.
- 34:40Speaker 1: I had trouble with the fact that JD's cavalier. Through
- 34:44Speaker 1: the rest of the episode, he's kind of like joking
- 34:46Speaker 1: around and meanwhile his heroes best friend just died and
- 34:52Speaker 1: he was at the helm. Yeah, yeah, yeah, and it
- 34:55Speaker 1: so that was that was really interesting to me. I
- 34:57Speaker 1: was like, wow, that's a I know they have to
- 35:00Speaker 1: throw a misdirect into in there somehow. I guess this
- 35:02Speaker 1: is the way to do it, because if you're a
- 35:05Speaker 1: if JD's affected by this screw up, then we know
- 35:10Speaker 1: that something it's more than just you know, we think
- 35:13Speaker 1: we'll think, we'll know it's more than just the old
- 35:15Speaker 1: guy that died. It's it's got to be something bigger.
- 35:18Speaker 1: It's really masterfully done. Directed by Chris Kotch and written
- 35:21Speaker 1: by Garet Donovan and Neil Goldman. Um, it's all the
- 35:24Speaker 1: writing and direction are pretty amazing. So let's go to
- 35:28Speaker 1: the top. Yeah, this aired, by the way, on February
- 35:31Speaker 1: twenty fourth, two thousand and four. Wow, just if you
- 35:34Speaker 1: want to sixteen think about think about your life sixteen
- 35:37Speaker 1: years ago. Sixteen years ago, what were you doing February
- 35:40Speaker 1: twenty fourth, two thousand and four, listener, The divorce was
- 35:44Speaker 1: like in effect, like I was in a you were thrown,
- 35:48Speaker 1: we were in courtroom times. I was this is like,
- 35:50Speaker 1: this is like we are doing it now this I
- 35:53Speaker 1: had moved out by this point. My film came out.
- 35:56Speaker 1: Garden State came out in two thousand and four. After this, though, Yeah,
- 36:01Speaker 1: it was um I think um fall or or must
- 36:05Speaker 1: have been octobersh um or maybe the summer was this.
- 36:08Speaker 1: This was our biggest season two, right? I think season
- 36:12Speaker 1: two is the highest ranked. I don't know, Joel, can
- 36:16Speaker 1: you look that up for us? What was the highest
- 36:17Speaker 1: rank season? I believe I read on on scrubs Wiki.
- 36:19Speaker 1: By the way, Scrubs Wiki, you guys know, I always
- 36:21Speaker 1: talk about it, but it's it's got a lot for
- 36:24Speaker 1: this episode. If you're into that sort of thing if
- 36:26Speaker 1: you want to do a deep dive on interpretations of
- 36:28Speaker 1: all the every day have so many moments that I
- 36:31Speaker 1: don't even know if Bill thought of or Kneel and Garrett,
- 36:34Speaker 1: but there's like, why is that poster behind Ben? It
- 36:36Speaker 1: must mean that anyway, Mickhead more important than anything. Mickhead
- 36:40Speaker 1: has his first line, Donald, thanks Nurses Pinoza. Yeah, he
- 36:44Speaker 1: doesn't say, that's it, and then he walks away. That
- 36:46Speaker 1: was his audition. That was his audition pretty much. That
- 36:49Speaker 1: was like, can you deliver this line? Now? We know
- 36:51Speaker 1: the characters just come back from huff huffing paint rehab. Yeah,
- 36:56Speaker 1: from paint which he'll never do again, which he'll ever
- 37:00Speaker 1: do again. Well, he looks pretty healthy. Um, you know,
- 37:02Speaker 1: he's just back from huffing paint rehab and then he
- 37:05Speaker 1: um and and he's but he's he's pretty he's back
- 37:08Speaker 1: to being a doctor's he looks like he's all right.
- 37:10Speaker 1: He says thanks to Nurse Espanoza. Pretty well. Does does
- 37:14Speaker 1: people know? Do people know that that's Mickhead yet? Have
- 37:17Speaker 1: people put two and two together? Like we know because
- 37:21Speaker 1: we know Frank and we know that he played Mickhead, right,
- 37:24Speaker 1: But has the audience put two and two together. Yet
- 37:26Speaker 1: has the audience said, oh, that's the Mickhead character. I
- 37:30Speaker 1: don't know, we talk about Mickhead. I don't know that
- 37:32Speaker 1: they know that that's Mickhead, that that's Mickhead. Because when
- 37:35Speaker 1: I realized that that was Mickhead, and I'm on the
- 37:37Speaker 1: freaking show, right when I realized that was with Mickhead
- 37:40Speaker 1: was when he tried to kill his wife un later
- 37:45Speaker 1: later must add a huffing paint relapse. Something must have happened, right, God,
- 37:51Speaker 1: huffing paint is a joke, bizarre addiction. How did that happen?
- 37:55Speaker 1: Who was like, I'm gonna spray all this paint in
- 37:57Speaker 1: this bag, all right, put it in this bag, and
- 38:00Speaker 1: I'm gonna try and breathe all of the paint in
- 38:04Speaker 1: the bag into my motherfucking knows, Yeah, and I'm gonna try.
- 38:08Speaker 1: I'm gonna breathe and breathe and breathe and breathe and breathe.
- 38:12Speaker 1: I want to see what happens. But it's what motherfucker
- 38:14Speaker 1: was just sitting there like it's one thing to get
- 38:20Speaker 1: you high, but to be like, let me go get
- 38:22Speaker 1: some fucking blue, right, I need more paint um, all right,
- 38:27Speaker 1: So Joel just told us in the chat that season
- 38:29Speaker 1: two is the highest rated, followed by season three. So
- 38:33Speaker 1: your wife's not taking your name. Now this happened in
- 38:35Speaker 1: your real life because your wife didn't take your name.
- 38:38Speaker 1: Did that upset you, Well, it was kind of like
- 38:41Speaker 1: a sabotage thing with me. So with this, she's telling
- 38:45Speaker 1: him way before the wedding, So there's like a cushion
- 38:47Speaker 1: he could he has an opportunity to be like, well,
- 38:49Speaker 1: I don't want to do this, or he can say
- 38:52Speaker 1: you know what, he can get over it, and I will.
- 38:54Speaker 1: You know, I'm gonna go turking. We'll go through it
- 38:58Speaker 1: with my wife. We were at the courthouse signing the
- 39:02Speaker 1: license and I'm like, Donald Faison and her name is
- 39:06Speaker 1: gonna be Casey and she goes Cobb, oh shit, And
- 39:10Speaker 1: I was like and I was like, no, but this
- 39:13Speaker 1: is the marriage part. We're going at the Casey pason,
- 39:16Speaker 1: this is the courthouse, this is the time in the place.
- 39:19Speaker 1: They're like, no, we're gonna she was like. She was
- 39:21Speaker 1: like cop. She's like, but what I will do is
- 39:24Speaker 1: I'll make it so that if I do decide to
- 39:28Speaker 1: change it, we don't have to go through all of
- 39:29Speaker 1: this legal legal paperwork and stuff like that. It's like
- 39:32Speaker 1: once it's like a one signed thing, and then she
- 39:35Speaker 1: can change her name. Like to change your last name
- 39:37Speaker 1: after the marriage thing. It's like this whole big thing.
- 39:40Speaker 1: But if you sign, if you do a couple of
- 39:41Speaker 1: things while you're there, you can make it a little
- 39:44Speaker 1: bit less strenuous to change your last name. So she
- 39:48Speaker 1: dangled it. She dangled it in front of me to
- 39:50Speaker 1: keep me from saying, we'll fuck this shit. I'm not
- 39:52Speaker 1: don't want to get married in oh shit. She's like, no, no, no, no, no, wait,
- 39:56Speaker 1: before we before you get all upset in all puffy chest,
- 40:00Speaker 1: here is what I'm going to do for you. There's
- 40:03Speaker 1: a possibility that i'll change it later. I'll make it
- 40:06Speaker 1: so that it's not a problem for me to do that. Okay,
- 40:09Speaker 1: well you know, huh, I complicated, right? No. I like
- 40:15Speaker 1: that old tradition. I understand why women are more of
- 40:18Speaker 1: them more over it like why you don't own me?
- 40:20Speaker 1: Why am I taking your fucking name? But I think
- 40:23Speaker 1: that there's um, I guess there's it's one old school
- 40:26Speaker 1: tradition I really liked, but it's not it's not up
- 40:29Speaker 1: to the man anymore. It's very calm. I have quite
- 40:34Speaker 1: a few friends, as you know. I spend a lot
- 40:36Speaker 1: of time in Sweden over the last twelve thirteen years.
- 40:40Speaker 1: And yeah, for sure, from Sweden. I know a lot
- 40:43Speaker 1: of Swedish guys that are friends of mine that got
- 40:46Speaker 1: married and took their wives names. Wow, we heard them correctly, don't. Yeah,
- 40:52Speaker 1: So I'm just gonna start calling me Donald Cob, Donald Cop.
- 40:55Speaker 1: By the way, I'm gonna call you Donald Cob from
- 40:57Speaker 1: now on. They already got already got a white person's
- 41:02Speaker 1: last name. I don't need another white persons. I feel like,
- 41:05Speaker 1: if you already got already got another white person's last name, name,
- 41:11Speaker 1: are you fucking kidding me? What about frank That's that
- 41:14Speaker 1: sounds African to you? What about Frankie fair? That just
- 41:16Speaker 1: means we came from the same plantation, Joshua Raydon Come on, now,
- 41:21Speaker 1: come on, now, come on, now, they don't notice y'all
- 41:25Speaker 1: don't know wahund on. Now, how come they ain't no
- 41:27Speaker 1: black Washington. How come they know white Washington's? How come
- 41:30Speaker 1: they know white Jefferson's. You know a white Jefferson? You
- 41:33Speaker 1: know a white person with the last name Jefferson. I
- 41:34Speaker 1: don't know a white person with the last name Washington,
- 41:36Speaker 1: white person. I know, why is that? Why is that?
- 41:42Speaker 1: I don't know, Pason could have been like a made
- 41:45Speaker 1: up I didn't I hear what you're saying. I know,
- 41:48Speaker 1: I know what you're saying about slaves taking their master's names.
- 41:51Speaker 1: There's a phase on North Carolina. Where do you think
- 41:54Speaker 1: my ancestors parked when they got when they got taken
- 41:58Speaker 1: from Africa. I didn't know that. I didn't know that.
- 42:00Speaker 1: There's a raid in Poland, and I think that's where
- 42:03Speaker 1: possibly my name comes from. It is very possible that
- 42:05Speaker 1: you are that one of your Radinsky or Radinovich, you
- 42:10Speaker 1: know something. I always imagine my name was longer like
- 42:13Speaker 1: Braftberg or Brafowitz or but you could probably there probably
- 42:17Speaker 1: is a town or something like that. There is somewhere
- 42:20Speaker 1: where your name originated. And it's not necessarily a person.
- 42:25Speaker 1: It's like the right am I correct me if I'm wrong.
- 42:27Speaker 1: It sounds like about right. No, Like all my grandparents
- 42:30Speaker 1: have unfortunately passed away, so I don't really have a
- 42:35Speaker 1: great resource to find out where my relatives are from.
- 42:37Speaker 1: But I think it's probably Polish German like I imagine, like,
- 42:42Speaker 1: you know, somebody like you know, I'm making up a name,
- 42:45Speaker 1: but somebody like Jason York was from York in England
- 42:51Speaker 1: back in the day, and when having to describe himself,
- 42:54Speaker 1: I'm Jason from York and then he became Jason York,
- 42:57Speaker 1: you know what I mean? Like, I imagine that's how
- 42:59Speaker 1: to ship probably happened. So all right, Well we learned
- 43:02Speaker 1: that JD has a Pinionta helmet. And not only does
- 43:05Speaker 1: he have a Piniona helmet, he has his own SpongeBob
- 43:08Speaker 1: SquarePants costume, which he says was a gift from me
- 43:12Speaker 1: to me. Yes, yes, can I Why does JD have?
- 43:18Speaker 1: How many times has JD been hit in the head?
- 43:23Speaker 1: He is a helmet that's specifically for Pinonta parties. Yeah,
- 43:28Speaker 1: because he that one. There was that one time or
- 43:32Speaker 1: maybe twice and he's like, you know what, I gotta
- 43:34Speaker 1: get my Piniona helmet. Um so, um so here's an
- 43:39Speaker 1: interesting Ben is back. He's not treating he's not treating
- 43:43Speaker 1: his cancer. Um as we told you last time, um
- 43:49Speaker 1: um Brendan was on. He was actually he is a
- 43:52Speaker 1: super big photographer and had all sorts of really cool
- 43:57Speaker 1: cameras in this one for those camera geeks out there.
- 43:59Speaker 1: He's got a polaroid back on a Holga, which is
- 44:02Speaker 1: something I hadn't even ever seen before. I had to
- 44:04Speaker 1: google that it was a real thing. But Holga is
- 44:07Speaker 1: a Holga is a very cheap plastic camera that people
- 44:10Speaker 1: love because if you put film in it, it takes
- 44:13Speaker 1: really cool interesting it has a plastic lens. It's really cheap.
- 44:17Speaker 1: And then he put a polaroid back on it, which
- 44:19Speaker 1: bought you Alga. Remember that. Yeah, I get them as
- 44:23Speaker 1: one because people know I love cameras and they're not
- 44:24Speaker 1: that expensive. It's a great gift. Yeah, I didn't have
- 44:27Speaker 1: any money, and I know you're like cameras. Yeah, I
- 44:29Speaker 1: got like forty Holgas. If you want one, I'll give
- 44:30Speaker 1: you one back for a hank. It's kidding. And then
- 44:33Speaker 1: so the polaroid back is um is, I don't know,
- 44:36Speaker 1: I've never seen it, and then I googled. Yeah, but
- 44:37Speaker 1: they didn't even make that film anymore unfortunately anywhere. That's
- 44:41Speaker 1: just a moment for the camera geeks. And anyway, my
- 44:43Speaker 1: point is is that later on Ben says, I'll take
- 44:48Speaker 1: pictures until the day I die. Wow. And then the
- 44:52Speaker 1: second he first appears, and as a hallucination, he no
- 44:55Speaker 1: longer has the camera ever again at all. Wow, I
- 44:58Speaker 1: didn't to you said that. I didn't even I didn't
- 45:01Speaker 1: put that together. I got that from Scrubs with you.
- 45:05Speaker 1: I have to there's a few things that that were
- 45:07Speaker 1: cool that I didn't even know, and that that was
- 45:10Speaker 1: one of them. This is some sixth cent shit, I'm
- 45:12Speaker 1: telling you, man. Yeah. Well, the obvious thing is that
- 45:13Speaker 1: no one, no one sees Ben other than Cox because
- 45:18Speaker 1: once he's dead. And when you go back and watch,
- 45:22Speaker 1: it's really clever. How how Chris Cotch directed all of that.
- 45:25Speaker 1: It's very very well done. There's a whole interaction with
- 45:28Speaker 1: Sarah where he's pretending to be a public mass. Amazing
- 45:30Speaker 1: physical comedy by both him and Sarah. And then when
- 45:33Speaker 1: she walks away and he's still holding onto the string,
- 45:36Speaker 1: imaginary string and he falls off of the counter amazing
- 45:40Speaker 1: physical comedy by Brendan Frazo. Yeah, Brandon was so good
- 45:43Speaker 1: in this episode, so good, so good. He's just so
- 45:46Speaker 1: freaking charming, that guy he is, he is and and
- 45:49Speaker 1: and I'm gonna I'm gonna be honest with you. The
- 45:52Speaker 1: doctor Kelso storyline is so important for this episode. It's
- 45:56Speaker 1: so important because it's the hard, this this hard character
- 46:02Speaker 1: who softens at the end, right, And when he softens,
- 46:07Speaker 1: that's when we as an audience also are let in
- 46:12Speaker 1: on the big reveal that Ben's Ben's dead and he's
- 46:16Speaker 1: been dead for a while, and that I personally feel like,
- 46:21Speaker 1: I don't think that would be as impactful if you
- 46:25Speaker 1: don't see a journey throughout the show, because there is
- 46:29Speaker 1: no journey throughout the show and this other you know
- 46:32Speaker 1: what I mean, there's no journey. Ben's there in the
- 46:34Speaker 1: beginning and he's dead. There's no journey for Cox Cox.
- 46:36Speaker 1: There's nothing for Cox really to accept other than the
- 46:39Speaker 1: fact that his that his best friend's dead and everything.
- 46:41Speaker 1: There's no journey for him. There's no journey for jd
- 46:44Speaker 1: there's no journey for anyway. The only person that has
- 46:46Speaker 1: a journey in this is Kelso and his Kelso and
- 46:49Speaker 1: and Kelso's journey is so important that it's it has
- 46:53Speaker 1: to land at the end for Ben's death to be
- 47:00Speaker 1: even more impactful. Yeah, you know what I mean, I do.
- 47:02Speaker 1: Is it the first time Kelso's shown any heart at all,
- 47:05Speaker 1: Because there's a moment in the closet where Judy says
- 47:07Speaker 1: it's been a hard week. Now, the audience first time
- 47:11Speaker 1: through assumes that's solely because she's arguing with you about stuff. Um,
- 47:15Speaker 1: they don't realize that she's also processing this death. And
- 47:18Speaker 1: then then we know Kelso also is processing stuff. Friends
- 47:22Speaker 1: with Ben, but you know he shows he I mean
- 47:24Speaker 1: to me, it was the first time he showed real
- 47:26Speaker 1: humanity at all. Right, And it's so important for this,
- 47:31Speaker 1: for this moment to land at the end, because now
- 47:34Speaker 1: he softened everybody up, He's given everybody the he's he's
- 47:38Speaker 1: made it so everybody is a relaxed Oh. This is
- 47:41Speaker 1: a great ending for Scrubs where I feel fuzzy inside.
- 47:46Speaker 1: And so then when you get punched in the gut
- 47:48Speaker 1: that we're at the we're at a funeral at the end,
- 47:51Speaker 1: and Josh's song starts to play, it's even more impactful.
- 47:57Speaker 1: It's because of Ken's storyline. It's because of kel so
- 48:00Speaker 1: storyline and how well he plays it at the end
- 48:03Speaker 1: the closet with Carla, it's so great. It's so I
- 48:07Speaker 1: wanted to mention that Randall Winston's credit comes up at
- 48:10Speaker 1: the exact moment that Leonard the security guard is mentioned Wow,
- 48:17Speaker 1: So someone cleverly timed it. So just as we're talking
- 48:20Speaker 1: about Leonard the security guard and his afro and his
- 48:22Speaker 1: hook hand, Randall's credit comes up, because have you ever
- 48:26Speaker 1: done that? What timed it? So when your name comes
- 48:29Speaker 1: up a specific no usually key or music key or
- 48:36Speaker 1: a you know whatever, a music note or whatever whatever.
- 48:38Speaker 1: Well I'm going in style. Was the first time a
- 48:40Speaker 1: first feature I directed that had the full hundred piece
- 48:44Speaker 1: orchestra score. So I think when my card comes at
- 48:47Speaker 1: the end, directed by I made sure that there was
- 48:49Speaker 1: a hundred piece orchestra flourish because like in some movies,
- 48:56Speaker 1: In some movies, like you'll see like in Eddie Murphy
- 48:59Speaker 1: movies are great for like the beginning of The Golden Child,
- 49:01Speaker 1: there's all of this montage stuff and then when Eddie
- 49:03Speaker 1: Murphy shows up, you see Eddie Murphy like he turns
- 49:06Speaker 1: to camera just like a sitcom damn Near and he
- 49:09Speaker 1: had the big smile on his face, and it's like
- 49:11Speaker 1: Eddie Murphy the Golden Child, you know what I mean?
- 49:13Speaker 1: Like I wonder. I wonder, like even even when directors
- 49:17Speaker 1: or well music people, when they when their title card
- 49:20Speaker 1: comes up, do they put a little spruce in it,
- 49:23Speaker 1: maybe you know what I mean, maybe subliminate. The credits
- 49:26Speaker 1: are added so much later after you've locked and and
- 49:28Speaker 1: there's and there's a there's a an order that everyone
- 49:31Speaker 1: has to go and just per contracts, so it would
- 49:34Speaker 1: be pretty tricky to do it after the fact unless
- 49:37Speaker 1: you planned on doing it. I don't mean, I don't
- 49:39Speaker 1: mean to imply that they cut this to Randall's picture.
- 49:42Speaker 1: I just mean it probably was close and then it
- 49:45Speaker 1: was kind of like, you know, if he fledge it
- 49:46Speaker 1: a few seconds, it'll because in the beginning of scrubs,
- 49:49Speaker 1: for those of you never I mean, I don't think
- 49:51Speaker 1: we've ever discussed this. They have to do all these
- 49:53Speaker 1: opening credits because you know, I mean, that's that's just
- 49:56Speaker 1: part of the rules, the contracts, the guild rules and everything,
- 49:59Speaker 1: and and they can be distracting. So there's times when
- 50:04Speaker 1: they'll pause them for a few seconds if a joke
- 50:06Speaker 1: is playing out to not upstage the joke, and then
- 50:09Speaker 1: they'll bring them back in and it's just very subtle.
- 50:12Speaker 1: The audience wouldn't really notice it. So I'm just saying
- 50:14Speaker 1: they may have fudged a little bit so it timed
- 50:16Speaker 1: out perfectly as he's mentioned Carla hates Turk's mole his
- 50:20Speaker 1: tickle button. Yeah, I imagine that's a lot of people's
- 50:25Speaker 1: first reaction. I remember one time I was at my
- 50:28Speaker 1: best friend's house. We were kids, and her dad kept
- 50:33Speaker 1: looking at me like really weird, like staring really hard
- 50:36Speaker 1: at my face. And I kept looking back at him like, hey,
- 50:41Speaker 1: is everything okay? And he kept staring so hard, and
- 50:46Speaker 1: finally he was like, I'm sorry, man, but what the
- 50:48Speaker 1: fuck is that on your face? Oh? My god? And
- 50:53Speaker 1: I was like what. He was like, what the fuck
- 50:57Speaker 1: is that on your face? You got some shit on
- 50:58Speaker 1: your face? Oh? What a dick? He thought was food
- 51:03Speaker 1: or something. He thought I had, like doo doo oh
- 51:07Speaker 1: on my lip. That feels a little bad. I want
- 51:11Speaker 1: to hug a baby dude who lived Donald. I laughed
- 51:15Speaker 1: so hard at that moment. Oh, really, you weren't upset.
- 51:18Speaker 1: I would have been upset. No, I was old enough.
- 51:22Speaker 1: I was like sixteen. It was that embarrassed after you
- 51:25Speaker 1: didn't know. It was like it was more like, dude,
- 51:27Speaker 1: what do you You've known me my whole life and
- 51:29Speaker 1: you don't You've never noticed this before. He's known me
- 51:32Speaker 1: before puberty. He knew me before everything, and he never
- 51:35Speaker 1: noticed that I had a mole off. It's embarrassing, though, though.
- 51:38Speaker 1: Don't you think, like, were you always awkward around that guy?
- 51:40Speaker 1: From then on, I would feel so like cringey. No,
- 51:43Speaker 1: not at all. Man. When I arrived the Northwestern I
- 51:45Speaker 1: had just done Manhattan Murder Mystery. Uh one scene, As
- 51:48Speaker 1: I think I mentioned before, I was Woody Allen movie. Yeah,
- 51:51Speaker 1: I was their son. And this kid I was always
- 51:55Speaker 1: a good friend of mine. Um, I really liked him.
- 51:58Speaker 1: And we were walking and he's and we start talking
- 52:01Speaker 1: about Manhatt Murmistry and he said, supposedly that kid who
- 52:04Speaker 1: plays the son goes to school here, and I kind
- 52:08Speaker 1: of chuckled, and he went, I don't really think he
- 52:10Speaker 1: was that good though, And it was clear he hadn't
- 52:13Speaker 1: seen the movie. Dude. I thought he was doing a bit,
- 52:16Speaker 1: but he wasn't, and it told we weren't really able
- 52:20Speaker 1: to ever recover. Yeah, but it was It was clearly, dude,
- 52:24Speaker 1: he hadn't seen the movie though. No, I think he'd
- 52:26Speaker 1: seen the movie. There's no way he'd seen the movie
- 52:28Speaker 1: and not recognized you, though I don't. I just don't.
- 52:31Speaker 1: Maybe I didn't have the same haircut and he just
- 52:33Speaker 1: didn't put two. Dude, I'm telling you, it was so
- 52:35Speaker 1: cringing and awkward that our friendship died a quick death.
- 52:38Speaker 1: Oh dude, that's nothing. I remember sitting in a movie theater,
- 52:41Speaker 1: freaking behind two ladies watching Wait in the exhale and
- 52:45Speaker 1: there throughout the movie talking about how much they love
- 52:47Speaker 1: the movie. Oh, this is such a great movie. I'm
- 52:50Speaker 1: quiet behind them, just enjoying the ride with them and
- 52:53Speaker 1: everything like that, laughing when they're laughing, and then I
- 52:55Speaker 1: come on screen and my scene's over and they go, yeah,
- 52:59Speaker 1: I don't like him. Him though the movies good, he
- 53:03Speaker 1: is not. And I remember being like, oh, and that's
- 53:07Speaker 1: when you just fade right back into that's like real
- 53:09Speaker 1: time trolling, real time trolling, right in my face. It
- 53:12Speaker 1: happened to Oh my god. All right. On that note,
- 53:15Speaker 1: we're gonna go to break and we come back. We're
- 53:16Speaker 1: gonna have a guest who, hopefully we'll have questions for.
- 53:18Speaker 1: Josh Radon will be right back after these fine ones,
- 53:28Speaker 1: and we're ba bring him in, Donald, I mean, bring
- 53:32Speaker 1: him in, Daniel, no problem, Josh, you're excited. It's your
- 53:35Speaker 1: first um guest caller on the Scrubs. Rewatch program. Lena
- 53:42Speaker 1: is joining Lena Lena. Ladies and gentlemen, give it up
- 53:46Speaker 1: for Lena, Lena, Lena, Lena. Everybody raid that's the josh

- 53:59Speaker 1: don phase on Joel Monique, Joshua Rading Uh, Daniels and
- 54:04Speaker 1: a broken camera. Lena. If you're ever in the market
- 54:06Speaker 1: for a webcam, do not buy the Imaging Edge webcam.
- 54:09Speaker 1: It doesn't work. Apparently the Imaging Edge webcam is really expensive. Yeah,
- 54:15Speaker 1: but it doesn't ever. If I would, if I had
- 54:17Speaker 1: the time, I would go on Amazon and give it
- 54:19Speaker 1: one star. Well, my webcam was about forty nine dollars
- 54:23Speaker 1: and it's doing great, maybe I sid Yeah, you look great.
- 54:29Speaker 1: Do you notice how Lena, we're able to see you? Yeah,
- 54:32Speaker 1: Daniels webcam didn't come with that feature. Oh and and
- 54:37Speaker 1: hear that, Daniel. Yeah. You guys need merch webcams. Yeah,
- 54:43Speaker 1: you have every merch thing that is known to man.
- 54:46Speaker 1: We're gonna sell h fake doctor's real friends webcams, but
- 54:50Speaker 1: they're not We're not going to source them from Imaging
- 54:54Speaker 1: EdgeCAM Edge web I I'm still trying to get my
- 54:57Speaker 1: hands on the onesie, So I have to wait on
- 54:59Speaker 1: the webcam restocked to Joel. Do you know I'm working
- 55:03Speaker 1: on that. But I'll give you guys an update. No
- 55:06Speaker 1: idea we had. We we kind of thought it would
- 55:09Speaker 1: be funny. We thought we ordered six hundred because we
- 55:11Speaker 1: were like, there's a lot of people listening to this
- 55:14Speaker 1: all over the world. Maybe maybe we'll sell six hundred eventually,
- 55:17Speaker 1: and and that won't be too many to order. And
- 55:19Speaker 1: they were gone in twenty four hours, all of them. Yes,
- 55:23Speaker 1: I can't even get one from my from my from
- 55:25Speaker 1: my family, my wife. Same of it is. We have
- 55:28Speaker 1: a PJA day coming up at work? And where do
- 55:32Speaker 1: you work? Where do you work? I'm a nurse. Oh shit,
- 55:36Speaker 1: it got real. It just got interesting. Where are you at?
- 55:41Speaker 1: Where are you working at? Yeah? So I'm working for
- 55:44Speaker 1: the largest healthcare organization in western Pennsylvania. So anyone from
- 55:49Speaker 1: Pittsburgh will know exactly who I'm talking about. That's where
- 55:53Speaker 1: I work. Oh, so you're going to be one of
- 55:55Speaker 1: the first to get the vaccine. So, um, I'm in
- 55:58Speaker 1: home care, so the vaccine will go to the acute
- 56:01Speaker 1: care staff first in the hospital. That started yesterday And
- 56:04Speaker 1: actually my organization was the first to give it, and
- 56:08Speaker 1: then home care will be the second round. Okay, so February,
- 56:14Speaker 1: I hope, sooner than that. They're saying by the end
- 56:16Speaker 1: of January. Okay. Yeah, when you say at home care,
- 56:20Speaker 1: do you mean you care for people in their homes. Correct,
- 56:22Speaker 1: So we take care of people who either came out
- 56:25Speaker 1: of the hospital. So our COVID patients who come out
- 56:27Speaker 1: of the hospital really they're really deconditioned, so they really
- 56:31Speaker 1: take more therapy than nurses. But what's also happening is
- 56:35Speaker 1: that we are so understaffed in the hospitals, understaffed in
- 56:39Speaker 1: home care, we're running out of beds, so unfortunately, they're
- 56:42Speaker 1: having to send patients home from the hospital faster than
- 56:45Speaker 1: they should. So in home care, we're now taking care
- 56:48Speaker 1: of people with central lines, chess tubes, chemo, and so
- 56:53Speaker 1: we've become an extension of acute care, and so we're
- 56:55Speaker 1: taking care of people trying to keep them out of
- 56:57Speaker 1: the hospital so that hospital beds are open for the
- 57:00Speaker 1: patients who really need it. So you're providing care at
- 57:03Speaker 1: how in the home? Yeah? How do you how do
- 57:07Speaker 1: you staff a team large enough to take care of
- 57:13Speaker 1: all of the people that you're sourcing now out of
- 57:16Speaker 1: the hospitals say it sounds like they're because they're running out. Well,
- 57:22Speaker 1: they have to stretch it some way. How are you
- 57:24Speaker 1: stretching it right now? So it's funny that you ask that, Donald,
- 57:27Speaker 1: And if I really figure out the right way to
- 57:31Speaker 1: do it, I'm going to write a book and I'm
- 57:32Speaker 1: going to be a trillionaire and then i won't have
- 57:35Speaker 1: to be a nurse anymore. But here's what we're doing.
- 57:37Speaker 1: So I'm a supervisor. I actually am in the office
- 57:41Speaker 1: money through Friday, making sure that the nurses get the
- 57:43Speaker 1: ppe they need, that all of the patients who need
- 57:45Speaker 1: to be covered are covered. If we have to prioritize.
- 57:48Speaker 1: I'm the one who's picking who gets seen and who
- 57:50Speaker 1: doesn't get seen. So I'm also coordinating with the hospitals
- 57:54Speaker 1: to say, no, we're not taking anymore. You need to
- 57:56Speaker 1: find another home care. It's not a safe discharge. You
- 57:59Speaker 1: need to keep them. So then on the weekends, I'm
- 58:02Speaker 1: going out and seeing patients. So we're all just doing
- 58:04Speaker 1: the best that we can. And it's scary because our
- 58:06Speaker 1: patient list is growing and our staff list is shrinking. Yeah,
- 58:11Speaker 1: I was seeing something today in LA that there there
- 58:14Speaker 1: there are people that are waiting in ambulances because there's
- 58:16Speaker 1: just there's no beds and La La is running out
- 58:21Speaker 1: of ICU beds, so they had people. There was something
- 58:24Speaker 1: I read, I think it was on Deadline about how
- 58:27Speaker 1: they're literally just the ambulances are pulling up and just
- 58:29Speaker 1: holding people because they just there's a backlog. What are
- 58:32Speaker 1: you guys doing there? So I'm in Pittsburgh and we
- 58:36Speaker 1: locked down Saturday morning. We went back on lockdown, and
- 58:40Speaker 1: they were saying, don't have a stroke or a heart
- 58:43Speaker 1: attack in Pittsburgh because there's no ICU beds left. And
- 58:47Speaker 1: that's a really scary thought. So in home care, what
- 58:50Speaker 1: we are doing to help is if we can keep
- 58:52Speaker 1: them out of the hospital, we are so if that
- 58:54Speaker 1: means that we get telehealth, or we get a social worker,
- 58:56Speaker 1: or we get family involved, We're trying to critically think
- 58:59Speaker 1: and keep out of the hospital. But at the same time,
- 59:02Speaker 1: I went about three weeks ago, patient was discharged from
- 59:06Speaker 1: the hospital Friday night. I went in Saturday morning, and
- 59:09Speaker 1: I sent them right back to the hospital. So it's
- 59:11Speaker 1: just knowing what can I handle in the home, what
- 59:14Speaker 1: do I need to send back to the hospital, it's
- 59:16Speaker 1: getting the doctors on the phone and trying to think
- 59:19Speaker 1: and talk and figure out what we can do. Because
- 59:21Speaker 1: in home care, you're you're in the living room. There's
- 59:24Speaker 1: no X rays, there's no blood work, there's no doctor
- 59:27Speaker 1: that I can grab and say, hey, what do you think?
- 59:29Speaker 1: It's just a nurse standing in a living room. So
- 59:31Speaker 1: we're doing the best we can with the resources we have.
- 59:34Speaker 1: Our health system is huge. They have their own insurance,
- 59:37Speaker 1: they have their own long term care facilities. So we're
- 59:39Speaker 1: trying to think out, can we just get the patient
- 59:41Speaker 1: on telehealth and open them, open up a nurse for
- 59:44Speaker 1: another visit. Is this somebody who just needs to go
- 59:46Speaker 1: back to the hospital, as much as I hate to
- 59:48Speaker 1: do that, So we're just doing the best we can.
- 59:50Speaker 1: We're critically thinking trying to get the patients who can
- 59:53Speaker 1: stay out of the hospital what they need, and then
- 59:55Speaker 1: get the patients who need to be in the hospital
- 59:58Speaker 1: into the hospital. Thank you so much for what you're doing.
- 1:00:01Speaker 1: And if you could, let's say you're in a position
- 1:00:05Speaker 1: like you are right now where you could speak to
- 1:00:07Speaker 1: thousands and thousands and thousands of people across the world,
- 1:00:12Speaker 1: what would you tell them in terms of from your
- 1:00:17Speaker 1: point of view, what's the best thing they could be
- 1:00:20Speaker 1: doing to keep themselves healthy. Oh my gosh, I might
- 1:00:25Speaker 1: actually start crying right now, because if you do an
- 1:00:27Speaker 1: opportunity that every nurse wishes they could have right now,
- 1:00:31Speaker 1: wear your masks, even if you think it's stupid and
- 1:00:34Speaker 1: it doesn't work. What if there's a one percent chance
- 1:00:39Speaker 1: that you could protect your parents, or your children or
- 1:00:42Speaker 1: the neighbor. If there's a one percent chance that we're
- 1:00:44Speaker 1: all right and you should wear your mask, then why
- 1:00:47Speaker 1: risk it? So wear the mask? Only go out when
- 1:00:50Speaker 1: you have to. If you do have to go out,
- 1:00:51Speaker 1: be really smart about it. Like I said, use that
- 1:00:53Speaker 1: critical thinking and say, okay, well can I outsource what what?
- 1:00:57Speaker 1: Maybe I can ask my neighbors what they need and
- 1:01:00Speaker 1: one person can make the trip the healthiest of us.
- 1:01:04Speaker 1: I understand it's Christmas. I understand it's Tonica. I understand
- 1:01:07Speaker 1: it's d I understand that all of these beautiful holidays
- 1:01:11Speaker 1: are happening and that you want to be with your families.
- 1:01:13Speaker 1: But this is It's not a normal year, and the
- 1:01:16Speaker 1: best gift that you can give to the world right now,
- 1:01:19Speaker 1: including your own family, is to stay home. If you
- 1:01:23Speaker 1: can and if you can't be smart about it, be
- 1:01:28Speaker 1: really smart and really think it through. And if you
- 1:01:30Speaker 1: don't believe it, but there's a one percent chance we're
- 1:01:34Speaker 1: all right, then why risk it? Yeah? Beautifully said? Beautifully said,
- 1:01:39Speaker 1: and right from from someone on the front lines. I mean,
- 1:01:42Speaker 1: you guys all hear me and Donald talk about it
- 1:01:44Speaker 1: because we lost a friend and Josh lost a friend
- 1:01:47Speaker 1: as well. But um, but I think people are just
- 1:01:50Speaker 1: used to hearing it now and they roll their eyes.
- 1:01:52Speaker 1: So to hear it from from a nurse who is
- 1:01:54Speaker 1: on the front lines and seeing it day in and
- 1:01:56Speaker 1: day out, I really appreciate that. All Right, have any questions.
- 1:02:01Speaker 1: I feel silly to segue to this because you have
- 1:02:03Speaker 1: a question. We we we anything scrubs related, anything Josh
- 1:02:07Speaker 1: Ray related. Yeah, So if I have the opportunity for too,
- 1:02:10Speaker 1: I'm gonna ask a scrubs question, and then I'm gonna
- 1:02:11Speaker 1: ask a non scrubs questions. Okay, Oh, that's okay. Josh.
- 1:02:16Speaker 1: Josh is just happy to be here. He's happy to
- 1:02:18Speaker 1: be eavesdropping. Oh wait, if you know any nice women,
- 1:02:22Speaker 1: I feel like a Jewish mother. If you know any
- 1:02:24Speaker 1: nice women in the LA area. He's wonderful, he paints.
- 1:02:28Speaker 1: He sings, Pittsburgh, I'm available. Oh Josh, you got a
- 1:02:35Speaker 1: beautiful nurse right here for you. But I don't think
- 1:02:38Speaker 1: a crazy though, yeah crazy. And also I just don't
- 1:02:42Speaker 1: think Pittsburgh is going to be where Josh plants his roots.
- 1:02:44Speaker 1: But listens and I understand, um, but I'd be lucky
- 1:02:49Speaker 1: to have you Len. He's also a charmer. Lena and
- 1:02:53Speaker 1: Um and nurses. Being with the nurse is one of
- 1:02:56Speaker 1: those things that you hope you never need, but then
- 1:02:58Speaker 1: if you suddenly do, you're so well out, there's there.
- 1:03:01Speaker 1: I would I think that's great to be with a nurse,
- 1:03:03Speaker 1: because you could because I'm always like, what's this thing?
- 1:03:05Speaker 1: What is this? Is this? Am I gonna die from this?
- 1:03:08Speaker 1: Josh and I am the same doctor and we um
- 1:03:11Speaker 1: and he's retiring actually. But the thing I loved about
- 1:03:13Speaker 1: him is like, if I hawked up a lugie, I
- 1:03:15Speaker 1: could send him a text of it and I'd be like,
- 1:03:17Speaker 1: do I need antibiotics? And he'd be like, yes, and
- 1:03:20Speaker 1: that's gross. Yep. I get pictures you can't imagine. You know.
- 1:03:24Speaker 1: Some people worry about like, oh, there's going to be
- 1:03:26Speaker 1: a dick pick I can't like about to say up
- 1:03:31Speaker 1: on my phone what I get texted? Oh my god,
- 1:03:36Speaker 1: we were talking about Joel getting lots of inappropriate pictures.
- 1:03:39Speaker 1: All right, what's your question? Go ahead? Oh my god,
- 1:03:41Speaker 1: are you talking about online dating Joel? Yeah, I've gotten
- 1:03:46Speaker 1: yeah out there. I would I would like to discuss this. Okay,
- 1:03:52Speaker 1: let's be let's be respectful and tactful. She's a she's
- 1:03:56Speaker 1: a classy woman. Absolutely. Um, what which for you? One?
- 1:04:00Speaker 1: Is it the tender that you're getting all these invit
- 1:04:02Speaker 1: I tried to do it right and I went like
- 1:04:05Speaker 1: frommatch dot com. I paid the money and everything, and um,
- 1:04:09Speaker 1: you upload pictures, you describe yourself, and you put this
- 1:04:12Speaker 1: nice little narrative like listen, I'm very busy. If you
- 1:04:15Speaker 1: need a lot of attention, don't bother to talk to me.
- 1:04:18Speaker 1: This is what I'm looking for. And then just the
- 1:04:22Speaker 1: DM start and there will be things out of like
- 1:04:26Speaker 1: I had one that just said, I bet you taste great. Wow,
- 1:04:32Speaker 1: screechy violins on that cow. I don't know if I could.
- 1:04:37Speaker 1: I don't know if I could do that. I don't
- 1:04:38Speaker 1: know if I met I think, don't you when you
- 1:04:40Speaker 1: hear tales about how gross fucking men are, don't you
- 1:04:44Speaker 1: just like I'm just always so. I mean, I know
- 1:04:47Speaker 1: about this, but we men don't get sent I don't get.
- 1:04:50Speaker 1: I don't I don't want and and and please don't start,
- 1:04:52Speaker 1: please don't don't want to hear these But when I
- 1:04:55Speaker 1: hear these tales, I just can't believe how fucking gross
- 1:04:58Speaker 1: men back dick picks aren't even the most shocking. That's
- 1:05:03Speaker 1: not that, it's the stuff and they say to you,
- 1:05:07Speaker 1: I don't get any of that stuff. Like I I
- 1:05:09Speaker 1: go through my DMS like looking for the ship, like,
- 1:05:12Speaker 1: let you see what. No, I don't want to dick pick.
- 1:05:15Speaker 1: I want to see what my fans are saying to me.
- 1:05:17Speaker 1: So sometimes i'll scroll through it and it'll be some
- 1:05:20Speaker 1: of the stuff I'm like, oh god, that's heart wrenching,
- 1:05:23Speaker 1: Oh my god, I shouldn't have opened this. Why did
- 1:05:25Speaker 1: I open this? And then some of it it's like
- 1:05:28Speaker 1: some of it's like yo, man, fuck you man, Yo,
- 1:05:31Speaker 1: your your your podcast is shit. Man. All y'all do
- 1:05:33Speaker 1: is talk about shit on the right and on you
- 1:05:35Speaker 1: for you let the shit on the left. Y'all know,
- 1:05:38Speaker 1: you know you need to be newcast, right. I get
- 1:05:43Speaker 1: I get a lot of that with the red siren emoji.
- 1:05:47Speaker 1: I'll tell you to make a nurse blush, you have
- 1:05:50Speaker 1: to you gotta really, you gotta really put it out there.
- 1:05:52Speaker 1: And some of the messages I've gotten have made me blush.
- 1:05:55Speaker 1: I have yet to get one of those messages. I'm
- 1:05:57Speaker 1: very happy that I've yet to get one of those messages.
- 1:06:00Speaker 1: Yet to get the messages, the real question is, well,
- 1:06:03Speaker 1: not there's many questions I have about this, but when
- 1:06:06Speaker 1: you're asking how crazy men are, which is totally true,
- 1:06:09Speaker 1: it's it's insane. But I have female friends that have
- 1:06:14Speaker 1: told me things like that before, have stories like that,
- 1:06:16Speaker 1: and all these um inappropriate messages, and you're like, my
- 1:06:19Speaker 1: first thought was, okay, so you're a guy who goes
- 1:06:23Speaker 1: on on match dot com and sends these inappropriate pictures
- 1:06:26Speaker 1: or messages wherever, Like is there are you sending those
- 1:06:29Speaker 1: to like one hundred women hoping it one time it
- 1:06:32Speaker 1: works there? It has to be. It has to be that.
- 1:06:36Speaker 1: It's like fishing. They're they're hoping that they catch one.
- 1:06:39Speaker 1: But I'm saying, like, if it's let's say it's one
- 1:06:42Speaker 1: out of five hundred, A woman actually responds like, are
- 1:06:45Speaker 1: you won you won you did. We spoke about this earlier,
- 1:06:48Speaker 1: that one women woman is ruining it for every other
- 1:06:50Speaker 1: woman every you, especially if it happens like in the
- 1:06:55Speaker 1: first week or the first you know, a couple of
- 1:06:58Speaker 1: times you try it where you're like, here's a dick
- 1:07:00Speaker 1: pick and you get the response like, wow, I can't
- 1:07:05Speaker 1: I know if that would have happened to anybody, they'd
- 1:07:07Speaker 1: be like, I'm doing this for the rest of the time.
- 1:07:10Speaker 1: I don't know if you watched that UM, that last
- 1:07:12Speaker 1: Amy Schumer stand up special, but she had a great um.
- 1:07:16Speaker 1: She had great advice for women who get dick picks,
- 1:07:19Speaker 1: and she said, if you get a dick pic, send
- 1:07:21Speaker 1: back a picture of a bigger dick. When when he responds,
- 1:07:29Speaker 1: what's this, you just go, oh, sorry, I just thought
- 1:07:31Speaker 1: we were sending pictures of cool dicks. I don't think.
- 1:07:36Speaker 1: I don't think. When you get a text, you have
- 1:07:40Speaker 1: time to think of the response. You don't have to
- 1:07:42Speaker 1: be really clever, really fast, so it gives you the
- 1:07:45Speaker 1: opportunity with to come up with something great. So I
- 1:07:48Speaker 1: had a guy and feel free to censor this if
- 1:07:50Speaker 1: you'd like to, but I not his name. We don't
- 1:07:53Speaker 1: want to sense or anything. I don't I don't remember
- 1:07:55Speaker 1: his name on one of a thousand whom. I opened
- 1:07:58Speaker 1: it up and it said when's the last time you
- 1:08:00Speaker 1: got ben over? And made come hard? Oh? And it
- 1:08:03Speaker 1: was all misspelled, which is super hot. And so I responded,
- 1:08:07Speaker 1: ask your brother. I think he wrote down the date. Wow, okay,
- 1:08:12Speaker 1: it gives you time, Like I got it. I have
- 1:08:14Speaker 1: to have some coffee think about it. How do I
- 1:08:16Speaker 1: want to respond to that? All right? As fun as
- 1:08:19Speaker 1: that is, Lena, I don't know that you shouldn't. I
- 1:08:21Speaker 1: mean I wouldn't engage, but not to be paternal. I
- 1:08:24Speaker 1: don't think you should engage because they can be scared. Okay,
- 1:08:27Speaker 1: Oh yeah, I'm about to say. You gotta I gotta say, Lena,
- 1:08:30Speaker 1: you're such a You're a nurse, You're a very beautiful woman.
- 1:08:33Speaker 1: I feel like Joell, we could if you want, we
- 1:08:36Speaker 1: could put your well, I don't know if that's going
- 1:08:38Speaker 1: to encourage it. I'm trying. If you're in the Pittsburgh area,
- 1:08:40Speaker 1: how can what do we do? We could put your
- 1:08:42Speaker 1: Instagram on our show notes or something that's gonna I'm
- 1:08:49Speaker 1: trying to help beverbody calm down. This isn't we're not
- 1:08:51Speaker 1: We're not even not fixed your life yet. We haven't
- 1:08:53Speaker 1: even gotten The show is gonna be so fucking long.
- 1:08:55Speaker 1: But I just wanted to say, Lena, Um, I don't
- 1:08:59Speaker 1: want to encourage that behavior, but gosh, I wish I
- 1:09:01Speaker 1: could set you up with someone. Oh no, that's fine.
- 1:09:03Speaker 1: I'm so busy right now. You're busy, busy freaking handling
- 1:09:07Speaker 1: COVID man romance. Everyone's got time for the a little
- 1:09:13Speaker 1: bit of romance. A right, go ahead, Lena, Sorry, what's
- 1:09:15Speaker 1: your question? So my question is for Zack and Donald.
- 1:09:20Speaker 1: So let's say that somebody says, I want to make
- 1:09:23Speaker 1: a movie about the making of Scrubs, how it came
- 1:09:27Speaker 1: to fruition, behind the scenes. What young actors now are
- 1:09:31Speaker 1: playing YouTube in your mid twenties. Oh wow, good question,
- 1:09:36Speaker 1: great question. Well I would play myself obviously, I mean black,
- 1:09:42Speaker 1: don't crack, you know. Yeah, so I think Ben Platt
- 1:09:46Speaker 1: would play me. Oh that's a good answer, because I
- 1:09:51Speaker 1: like so it would be me and Ben Platt pretty much. Yea,
- 1:09:54Speaker 1: and more musical episodes too. Ben Platt has a beautiful voice,
- 1:09:57Speaker 1: so I would sound even better when I sang, and
- 1:10:00Speaker 1: and I think he does. Um, I saw him and
- 1:10:04Speaker 1: dearman Hanson and he and obviously he's playing a very
- 1:10:08Speaker 1: different character. But but there were a lot of jdisms
- 1:10:11Speaker 1: that I liked and saw and respected. I think he's
- 1:10:15Speaker 1: very talented. Donald out a kid, the kid from Stranger Things. Man,
- 1:10:20Speaker 1: that's my dude. Okay. Yeah, although he's a teenager, you
- 1:10:24Speaker 1: need to be he's getting he's getting. He'sn't he's almost eighteen. Man,
- 1:10:28Speaker 1: boy got mustache and everything. Now he's growing up. Okay,
- 1:10:30Speaker 1: he's getting tall. There you go. There is your scrubs,
- 1:10:33Speaker 1: behind the scenes movie cast right there. Um, all right,
- 1:10:36Speaker 1: what's your next question? You said you had another one. Yeah,
- 1:10:39Speaker 1: So I'm actually working on my doctorate and nursing. Sorry, Joel,
- 1:10:43Speaker 1: this is not the question I told you, but I
- 1:10:44Speaker 1: promise it's PC. Okay, you working on your doctor and nursing.
- 1:10:47Speaker 1: That's so awesome. Do not apologize to me. Yeah, and
- 1:10:49Speaker 1: you don't have to, and you don't have to censor yourself.
- 1:10:51Speaker 1: You know, we liked anything inappropriate. I'm my doctorate project
- 1:10:58Speaker 1: is on decreasing the stress in our frontline managers, so
- 1:11:02Speaker 1: the managers who are between the patient care staff and
- 1:11:05Speaker 1: the executive management team. So these are our frontline managers.
- 1:11:09Speaker 1: M So my question for all of you, especially right now,
- 1:11:13Speaker 1: is what are you guys doing to decrease your stress?
- 1:11:18Speaker 1: Drinking lots of pino noir, going outside. I like going.
- 1:11:24Speaker 1: I broke my toe. I was If you listen to podcast,
- 1:11:27Speaker 1: you know I was cycling a lot. The peloton was
- 1:11:29Speaker 1: a great source of leaving stress for me. I broke
- 1:11:33Speaker 1: my toe. So I'm a little on time out with
- 1:11:35Speaker 1: exercise cardio. But I've been going to the dog park.
- 1:11:38Speaker 1: We have a big dog park near us, and I
- 1:11:40Speaker 1: love I get endorphins when I go and watch my
- 1:11:42Speaker 1: dogs print around the dog park, and I don't know
- 1:11:48Speaker 1: those are and those are my first ones that come
- 1:11:51Speaker 1: to mind. What about you, Josh, We know that you're
- 1:11:53Speaker 1: you're hiking. Yeah. I like walking around in nature as
- 1:11:58Speaker 1: much as I can, and reading and you know, just
- 1:12:04Speaker 1: just getting through it, basically getting through it. We lost Donald.
- 1:12:07Speaker 1: What happened to Donald? It's like your question dropped out.
- 1:12:12Speaker 1: Daniel will deal with that. Joel, Joel, what is your
- 1:12:14Speaker 1: answer to the question. It was like doing Christmas things
- 1:12:20Speaker 1: like which sounds crazy, but like you have to go
- 1:12:22Speaker 1: all over the place, and like it was like researching
- 1:12:26Speaker 1: with a friend and then like calling shops to see
- 1:12:28Speaker 1: how we could do it safely. And it is like
- 1:12:31Speaker 1: in the spirit of giving back, and it was like
- 1:12:34Speaker 1: it was a great way to like both like physically
- 1:12:36Speaker 1: get myself out of the house because I you know,
- 1:12:39Speaker 1: I'm an anxious person I ADHD and it like going
- 1:12:42Speaker 1: outside a pre pandemic. Well like I have um social anxiety,
- 1:12:48Speaker 1: m post pandemic being inside so much now, I's like
- 1:12:51Speaker 1: just going to my friend's house is like four or
- 1:12:53Speaker 1: five times much higher. I'm so anxious. Um So having
- 1:12:57Speaker 1: like a goal something to do, a partner that I
- 1:13:00Speaker 1: has been safe throughout this whole thing to go do
- 1:13:02Speaker 1: it with It's been like the greatest dress reliever. And
- 1:13:05Speaker 1: then now I get to send people packages and they
- 1:13:08Speaker 1: over going to open them on Zoom And there's that
- 1:13:10Speaker 1: whole like giving back like aspect of it that I'm
- 1:13:12Speaker 1: just really excited to participate in. So Christmas season for
- 1:13:16Speaker 1: the win, I agree that, um you know there is
- 1:13:20Speaker 1: I am having a lot of fun buying presents for
- 1:13:21Speaker 1: people and and and then we took a lot. We
- 1:13:24Speaker 1: had a lot of joy in decorating the house and
- 1:13:26Speaker 1: getting I've never done a real full out Christmas because
- 1:13:30Speaker 1: I'm Jewish, or at least I'm not. I'm secular, but
- 1:13:32Speaker 1: you know, we just never did it. Yeah, congrats on
- 1:13:35Speaker 1: your Christmas tree. Yeah, we went all out. We went
- 1:13:37Speaker 1: all out, and uh, it's it's fun. I'm having that is,
- 1:13:41Speaker 1: you know, decorating the house and making it all super
- 1:13:44Speaker 1: cozy has been has been a source of joy. How's
- 1:13:48Speaker 1: it going with Donald there, Daniel? He has not responded, well, Daniel,
- 1:13:52Speaker 1: what do you do to distress? What do I do
- 1:13:54Speaker 1: to distress? You know, I am a big fan of
- 1:13:57Speaker 1: electronic music. Um, I've really like biking, riding my bicycle,
- 1:14:02Speaker 1: and so there are times usually after work, usually late
- 1:14:06Speaker 1: at night, I would say around ten pm. I have
- 1:14:08Speaker 1: a very flat neighborhood, and so it's also a very
- 1:14:12Speaker 1: quiet at night, not a lot of cars. So I'll
- 1:14:15Speaker 1: throw it in my helmet, throw on some headphones, turn
- 1:14:17Speaker 1: the light onto my bike, and i will just do
- 1:14:20Speaker 1: laps around my neighborhood, blasting drum and bass in my
- 1:14:22Speaker 1: ears and just going as hard as possible and letting
- 1:14:28Speaker 1: the music just like plow through me like I'm in
- 1:14:31Speaker 1: an action film. I always feel like I'm being chased
- 1:14:33Speaker 1: by like the bad guys in the matrix. Whenever I'm
- 1:14:35Speaker 1: like biking around my neighborhood just listening to super super
- 1:14:38Speaker 1: fast electronic music. I come home, I'm exhausted, I've sweat
- 1:14:42Speaker 1: dripping all over me, and I just feel, you know,
- 1:14:45Speaker 1: alive and released and just like loose and it's it
- 1:14:49Speaker 1: feels great, it feels great. I would think that that
- 1:14:52Speaker 1: would I mean, that sounds awesome, but I would think
- 1:14:54Speaker 1: that would amp you all up. You'd come home like
- 1:14:56Speaker 1: all Like, there's definitely a degree it. Also, I really
- 1:15:00Speaker 1: try to do that when I am really trying to
- 1:15:03Speaker 1: get rid of stress. So I'm already kind of tensed
- 1:15:06Speaker 1: up and ready to go and working it out, Yes,
- 1:15:09Speaker 1: gets my heart rate going, but also just helps me
- 1:15:11Speaker 1: released that stress. So while there's still like a worked
- 1:15:14Speaker 1: up heart rate and stuff, there's a much more turned
- 1:15:16Speaker 1: down mental state that's like, Okay, we are released from this,
- 1:15:20Speaker 1: we are done, and now we can just move on
- 1:15:23Speaker 1: with the night and go take a hot shower and
- 1:15:25Speaker 1: you know, have a glass of something and go to bed. Yeah,
- 1:15:30Speaker 1: how about you, Lena, what do you do? You cut you?
- 1:15:32Speaker 1: I mean you you're writing this dissertation, right? Is that
- 1:15:36Speaker 1: what it is? So when you're a nurse, you're it's
- 1:15:40Speaker 1: called a scholarly project, and it actually lasts the entire
- 1:15:45Speaker 1: five semesters of doctor at school. So I've just completed
- 1:15:49Speaker 1: my first semester. So all I've had to do at
- 1:15:52Speaker 1: this point is just come up with the idea and
- 1:15:56Speaker 1: turn that in and say this is the background of
- 1:15:59Speaker 1: why this is a problem in nursing. I haven't got
- 1:16:01Speaker 1: to the actual like getting it approved or putting together
- 1:16:05Speaker 1: the actual study design, I think and then actually having
- 1:16:08Speaker 1: the experiment I think will be the really stressful part.
- 1:16:11Speaker 1: But so for now, Um, the stressful part is so
- 1:16:15Speaker 1: I'm a I'm a mom, I'm a full time doctorate student,
- 1:16:18Speaker 1: and i'm a single mom of I'm sorry, I'm a nurse,
- 1:16:21Speaker 1: I'm a doctorate student, and i'm a single mom of
- 1:16:23Speaker 1: two active teenage girls your plate. So I'm busy and
- 1:16:29Speaker 1: so um, you know, I'm sorry, sorry, sorry interrupt you, Daniel,
- 1:16:33Speaker 1: And he's waiting to be let back in Donald. There
- 1:16:35Speaker 1: we go. Oh there is right. Stop talking about him.
- 1:16:45Speaker 1: Stop talking about him. Hearing you what happened not a
- 1:16:52Speaker 1: good signal in that closet. Yeah, I can't tell you
- 1:16:56Speaker 1: what I do to relieve stress. That's all. She's a nurse.
- 1:17:07Speaker 1: That's my business. She's a nurse, and it's very healthy. Right,
- 1:17:12Speaker 1: it's normal, but it's normal. It's normal. Rights, normal, Right,
- 1:17:17Speaker 1: it's normal. Right, it is normal, Lena is not. It
- 1:17:21Speaker 1: is probably abnormal for a forty six year old man
- 1:17:25Speaker 1: to have the libido of a sixteen year old right, No, no, yeah,
- 1:17:29Speaker 1: she's shaking her head. You're normal, that's a normal. Yeah,
- 1:17:35Speaker 1: that's what. Yeah. I told you, I told you and
- 1:17:40Speaker 1: my wife that shit. But nobody wanted to listen to me, Lena.
- 1:17:43Speaker 1: Nobody wanted to listen to me. Everybody is like, no,
- 1:17:46Speaker 1: there's something wrong with you. There's something wrong with you,
- 1:17:49Speaker 1: and there's something wrong with your insides, and you need
- 1:17:51Speaker 1: to see therapy. You need to see therapy. You need
- 1:17:53Speaker 1: to go talk to somebody about your freaking libido. Well,
- 1:17:59Speaker 1: maybe Lena King, maybe Lena can give you a note
- 1:18:01Speaker 1: for Casey that says this is perfect prescription in prescription
- 1:18:07Speaker 1: to Yeah, all right, let me go get a hold
- 1:18:11Speaker 1: on no no, no, no no, no no no no no
- 1:18:13Speaker 1: no no no, come on, all right, let's talk about
- 1:18:16Speaker 1: fix your life. I don't know if we can fix
- 1:18:18Speaker 1: your life, but if there's any way we can you
- 1:18:19Speaker 1: missed Donald. She's got two teenage daughters in addition and
- 1:18:23Speaker 1: as a single mom in addition to being a nurse.
- 1:18:25Speaker 1: So she's got a lot of doctorate student yeah kind
- 1:18:28Speaker 1: of doctor. Got a lot on your plate there, right,
- 1:18:30Speaker 1: How can we fix your So this is um. I
- 1:18:37Speaker 1: just want your advice. This is what I really need
- 1:18:40Speaker 1: from you guys, because you are artists and you understand
- 1:18:43Speaker 1: what this is like. Yes, being a nurse was never
- 1:18:47Speaker 1: my dream. I actually went to college for musical theater
- 1:18:50Speaker 1: and then got pregnant, had to get a real job
- 1:18:53Speaker 1: with health insurance, went to nursing school, probably because of scrubs.
- 1:18:58Speaker 1: I'm not gonna lie the time up. And now I'm
- 1:19:03Speaker 1: I'm a mom and I'm a nurse. And so I
- 1:19:07Speaker 1: did a lot of community theater and then that wasn't
- 1:19:10Speaker 1: an option anymore because I was too busy. So what
- 1:19:13Speaker 1: I did was I sat down and wrote a book.
- 1:19:16Speaker 1: I wrote a fiction. I sort of just wrote my
- 1:19:18Speaker 1: own fantasy world that I got to escape into since
- 1:19:21Speaker 1: I couldn't be an actress anymore. And I felt really
- 1:19:25Speaker 1: good about it. I was really passionate about it. I
- 1:19:27Speaker 1: was very excited. And then eighteen rejections later from agents.
- 1:19:34Speaker 1: I had somebody who said, I'll take a look at it,
- 1:19:37Speaker 1: but you have to cut out roughly forty thousand words.
- 1:19:41Speaker 1: So I said, I don't. I don't want to do that.
- 1:19:44Speaker 1: I have all these people who have read it, they
- 1:19:46Speaker 1: love it. I've read it, I've edited it. I don't
- 1:19:49Speaker 1: want to take any more out of it. I'm gonna
- 1:19:50Speaker 1: self publish. So I got the website, I got the TikTok,
- 1:19:57Speaker 1: I got seventy five hundred followers on tick talk. I
- 1:20:00Speaker 1: put a little teaser about the book. Everyone seemed excited, um,
- 1:20:04Speaker 1: and then I really started looking at self publishing, and
- 1:20:07Speaker 1: I thought, if I really want to do this, I
- 1:20:10Speaker 1: need to get a kickstarter. But I don't have the time.
- 1:20:14Speaker 1: I don't know we're gonna be your grit kickstarter because
- 1:20:17Speaker 1: we're gonna look your website, what's the name of the book,
- 1:20:21Speaker 1: and how do people find out about the book? So
- 1:20:25Speaker 1: I guess my question was do I go for it
- 1:20:27Speaker 1: or do I shelve it? But it sounds like you're
- 1:20:29Speaker 1: saying just go for it. This is a place where
- 1:20:31Speaker 1: dreams come true. We're sit we tip pick, we'd pick up,
- 1:20:36Speaker 1: we go to the store. We go to staples, we
- 1:20:39Speaker 1: get white boards, we get erasable markers, okay, yes, and
- 1:20:44Speaker 1: we take those markers to set board and and we
- 1:20:48Speaker 1: write down our dreams and goals. Why do you have
- 1:20:53Speaker 1: like a why do you sound like a preacher something?
- 1:20:55Speaker 1: I like it because I'm trying to get Lena. She
- 1:20:58Speaker 1: needs to get up off her ass, go to the
- 1:21:01Speaker 1: white bull and race and right down. Wants to self
- 1:21:10Speaker 1: publish our own book. Write it down, alright, reverend, reverend, reverend,
- 1:21:15Speaker 1: there's so many babies unlatching right now, so many babies
- 1:21:18Speaker 1: aren't eating right now. But I'm super excited. All right, Well,
- 1:21:21Speaker 1: Donald's right. We we really believe that you can manifest.
- 1:21:24Speaker 1: We're big believers in manifesting. From the white board. It
- 1:21:26Speaker 1: sounds like it's already on your white board and you're
- 1:21:28Speaker 1: about to get the biggest plug you you could ever get. Um,
- 1:21:32Speaker 1: which is so funny you say that, sack, because the
- 1:21:34Speaker 1: way that I got on this podcast is that I'm
- 1:21:36Speaker 1: a witch and I wrote a spell and I did
- 1:21:40Speaker 1: a spell to get on this podcast. That was a
- 1:21:45Speaker 1: big that's a big right angle turn. By the way,
- 1:21:49Speaker 1: much like much like this episode, there's a reveal at
- 1:21:51Speaker 1: the end of the Caller, She's a witch. I didn't
- 1:21:54Speaker 1: want to ruin Joel's big, big twist, but yeah, I'm
- 1:21:59Speaker 1: a witch. And that's how I got myself on here.
- 1:22:01Speaker 1: And so, just like you said, Jack, I wanted to
- 1:22:02Speaker 1: manifest this happening. Are you serious? Are you really a which?
- 1:22:05Speaker 1: Because some people really are? Which? Really? Which? So that's
- 1:22:08Speaker 1: my altar right behind me with your whiteboard right above it. Okay,
- 1:22:13Speaker 1: so I'm not I'm not trying to. I'm not trying to.
- 1:22:16Speaker 1: I'm not trying to make jokes or anything like. No,
- 1:22:17Speaker 1: don't make jokes because it's not religion. How do you
- 1:22:19Speaker 1: how do you practice and science at the same time?
- 1:22:23Speaker 1: How are you able to do? Donald? That's such a
- 1:22:26Speaker 1: good question, very good questioned. Must be wearing off, it's
- 1:22:31Speaker 1: such a good question. So, no, the weed is kicking it.
- 1:22:34Speaker 1: You thought that you thought I took a break because
- 1:22:35Speaker 1: the computer went down? Yeah, yeah, yeah, I need to
- 1:22:38Speaker 1: go smoke some red. So yeahbuddy, something tells me you
- 1:22:40Speaker 1: dropped out of the zoom right around the time when
- 1:22:43Speaker 1: you needed a fucking dropped right around four twenty. That's
- 1:22:46Speaker 1: dropped out. Yeah all right, so Lena, we can't go
- 1:22:49Speaker 1: down a giant witchcraft world. But Donald, that's a great question.
- 1:22:52Speaker 1: How do you reconcile spells and science. So the human
- 1:22:57Speaker 1: body is made up of energy and electricity, so everything
- 1:23:00Speaker 1: around us, and if you go all the way back
- 1:23:03Speaker 1: to the pagan belief, back back, back, back back, their
- 1:23:07Speaker 1: belief was very much about manipulating the energy that is
- 1:23:10Speaker 1: around us, that all the energy is, we're all connected,
- 1:23:13Speaker 1: all of us, and they believed in honoring that. So
- 1:23:17Speaker 1: if you very quickly to make this super super quick,
- 1:23:21Speaker 1: if you look at the rivers of chi that are
- 1:23:24Speaker 1: drawn out by the Chinese back back back back, it
- 1:23:29Speaker 1: actually lines up with the nervous system. So way way
- 1:23:33Speaker 1: back before we even had science, people knew that there
- 1:23:36Speaker 1: was something greater than all of us, that we were
- 1:23:38Speaker 1: all connected, that by caring for the earth, we were
- 1:23:40Speaker 1: caring for ourselves, for caring for each other, we're caring
- 1:23:43Speaker 1: for ourselves. And so I think there is a room
- 1:23:47Speaker 1: for Western medicine and Eastern medicine. If you want to
- 1:23:52Speaker 1: manifest something in your life, Zach, you actually save us
- 1:23:54Speaker 1: a lot on the podcast. You have more magical thinking
- 1:23:57Speaker 1: than you probably realize. But if you want to man
- 1:24:00Speaker 1: infest things, you're manipulating energy around you and you're creating
- 1:24:02Speaker 1: it to happen. However, if somebody in front of you
- 1:24:05Speaker 1: goes into respiratory to stress and drops, you don't want
- 1:24:08Speaker 1: to burn incense. You want to care for them. And
- 1:24:11Speaker 1: that we were lucky that we were able to understand
- 1:24:15Speaker 1: Western medicine but still hold on the Eastern medicine. So
- 1:24:18Speaker 1: I do believe that there is a place for both things.
- 1:24:22Speaker 1: But I do think that when it comes to things
- 1:24:24Speaker 1: like creating what you want in life, that there is
- 1:24:27Speaker 1: a way to honor that and honor the things around you.
- 1:24:29Speaker 1: And I think that my job is a nurse honors
- 1:24:32Speaker 1: all of the people out in this world. It cares
- 1:24:35Speaker 1: for life, and because of that I get a lot
- 1:24:37Speaker 1: of abundance back in return. I'm very lucky in that sense.
- 1:24:41Speaker 1: But I do think that there's room for everything. I
- 1:24:44Speaker 1: think that all of us can be in harmony, and
- 1:24:46Speaker 1: that includes Western and Eastern. So that includes magical thinking
- 1:24:50Speaker 1: as well as science. If that makes sense. Yeah, I mean, sorry,
- 1:24:55Speaker 1: it was really quick. It wasn't It makes a lot
- 1:25:00Speaker 1: a sense. It's like, you know, it's believing in religion
- 1:25:03Speaker 1: and also believing that scientist can exist with religion as well,
- 1:25:07Speaker 1: and I totally get it, absolutely absolutely So if you're
- 1:25:11Speaker 1: sitting at the bedside of somebody who's dying, of course
- 1:25:13Speaker 1: you're going to pray for them, but you're also going
- 1:25:16Speaker 1: to want the doctor to do everything they can to
- 1:25:17Speaker 1: try and keep that person alive. And that's where I
- 1:25:20Speaker 1: really try to honor both things. Um, well, we hear you,
- 1:25:25Speaker 1: and we respect you, and we respect all religions, um
- 1:25:27Speaker 1: and belief systems. Um. So wait, so tell everyone, um
- 1:25:31Speaker 1: how to find do you do you got a cat?
- 1:25:33Speaker 1: I just want to know, do you have a cat?
- 1:25:35Speaker 1: I do? Is it a black cat? No? You are right?
- 1:25:42Speaker 1: And its name is Sebastian, all right? And the interest
- 1:25:46Speaker 1: of and the interests of episode lines? How do we
- 1:25:49Speaker 1: how do We're out of time? Lena? But tell us
- 1:25:51Speaker 1: how to find your book? Tell everyone how to find
- 1:25:53Speaker 1: your book. Yeah. So if you want to find my TikTok,
- 1:25:56Speaker 1: I'm all nurse all the time. All my information is
- 1:25:59Speaker 1: on there, and my website is uh Lena l E
- 1:26:03Speaker 1: Na nasri and a z as in zebra a r
- 1:26:07Speaker 1: ei dot com. And you can find all the information
- 1:26:10Speaker 1: on there. And I guess I'm gonna make a Kickstarter,
- 1:26:12Speaker 1: so watch for it. What's the title of the book.
- 1:26:14Speaker 1: But what's the title of the bight Shift. It's about
- 1:26:16Speaker 1: a night shift nurse who becomes a vampire. Night shifts
- 1:26:21Speaker 1: were you know, you know how we do because we
- 1:26:23Speaker 1: got a little story that we like to talk about
- 1:26:25Speaker 1: about a doctor who becomes a vampire and his name
- 1:26:28Speaker 1: is doctor Acula. Yea nice, Donald, you like it. There's
- 1:26:31Speaker 1: a lot of sex in the book. It's very sexy.
- 1:26:34Speaker 1: There's a lot of what sex sex Donald could use it. Wait,
- 1:26:39Speaker 1: hold on, I'm sorry, Lena, I think you have me
- 1:26:42Speaker 1: confused for someone else. Oh, sorry, apologize, I I I
- 1:26:49Speaker 1: can't even continue this with a straight face. All right,
- 1:26:51Speaker 1: I'm very Intrina. You've been an awesome guest. Um, thank
- 1:26:55Speaker 1: you for being a frontline worker and for all that
- 1:26:57Speaker 1: you're doing. And um, and please staycy and thank you
- 1:27:00Speaker 1: for coming on. You're an awesome guest. Thank thank you,
- 1:27:03Speaker 1: very body. Thank you. Let's take a break. We'll be
- 1:27:13Speaker 1: right back after these fine words. Well, there were so
- 1:27:22Speaker 1: many chapters to that call. That was a big that
- 1:27:25Speaker 1: was that was truly I mean, she's jo Well did
- 1:27:28Speaker 1: you know she was going to drop the witch bomb
- 1:27:30Speaker 1: at the end hell, yeah, why do you think I
- 1:27:32Speaker 1: picked her? I was, sister, let's do that. You were
- 1:27:36Speaker 1: you were? You were probably like, what's she gonna start
- 1:27:37Speaker 1: talking about the witches? Which I was worried. I wasn't
- 1:27:40Speaker 1: gonna get in there. Well, she had a lot to
- 1:27:43Speaker 1: say and she's very interesting. But I thought that Donald
- 1:27:46Speaker 1: thought that she was kidding. And that's why I was like,
- 1:27:49Speaker 1: oh wait, I didn't think she's kidding because she's like,
- 1:27:51Speaker 1: she has all her witch gear behind her. I didn't
- 1:27:54Speaker 1: think she would of like frontline work and nursing and dating,
- 1:27:59Speaker 1: and then all of a sudden it's so Also, yeah,
- 1:28:01Speaker 1: I'm a witch, and so your book is about the
- 1:28:05Speaker 1: book is a sexy book about a nurse vampire. I
- 1:28:08Speaker 1: mean that woman in America. I'll doorly Lina, thank you. Yeah, yeah,
- 1:28:14Speaker 1: you should go on that pitch that pitch thing. What's
- 1:28:16Speaker 1: the pitch thing on Twitter? Joel pitch thing on Twitter?
- 1:28:20Speaker 1: Do you know what I'm talking about? I thought you
- 1:28:21Speaker 1: might know about it. It's like when writers pitch their
- 1:28:23Speaker 1: ideas and they they like it's like, um, they they
- 1:28:29Speaker 1: put out like a byline or not a byline. They
- 1:28:31Speaker 1: put out like a one sentence thing about what the
- 1:28:33Speaker 1: plot of their thing is, and then they hope that
- 1:28:36Speaker 1: publishers or agents um respond to them. Do you know
- 1:28:39Speaker 1: what I'm talking about? Yes, they do. It's called a
- 1:28:41Speaker 1: Twitter pitch. It's sometimes they're by different publishing companies. This
- 1:28:44Speaker 1: is according to Google. UM sometimes just sort of ramped
- 1:28:47Speaker 1: up where people are like, hey, just go for it.
- 1:28:48Speaker 1: I guess agents do it sometimes too, but it's sort
- 1:28:51Speaker 1: of it's called like pitch mod or something. I don't know.
- 1:28:53Speaker 1: There's like there's days where it's like, hey, everybody, it's
- 1:28:55Speaker 1: pitch mod and I'll be pitching my new book and anyway,
- 1:28:59Speaker 1: I digress. Um, So Donald, what's up? Brother? We should? Um?
- 1:29:04Speaker 1: We have a surprise for everybody, and that is that
- 1:29:07Speaker 1: when we're done with our show, Joshua Raden is gonna
- 1:29:11Speaker 1: sing and perform Winter Live for all of you, which
- 1:29:14Speaker 1: is a pretty nice treat. Donald, don't you think you know?
- 1:29:19Speaker 1: I was hoping for a concert the whole episode. I
- 1:29:23Speaker 1: thought that's what we were gonna do. I didn't realize
- 1:29:25Speaker 1: we were gonna, you know, talk about the show, and
- 1:29:27Speaker 1: I didn't think Lena was going to be that interesting,
- 1:29:29Speaker 1: to be honest with you. But you know, okay, she
- 1:29:32Speaker 1: she spoke my language obviously. Yeah, I think it's only
- 1:29:38Speaker 1: right that if we have Josh on the show, of course,
- 1:29:43Speaker 1: that we ask him he could say, he could decline,
- 1:29:45Speaker 1: he could say no, I wouldn't have had him on.
- 1:29:47Speaker 1: I just want to go through a couple more things
- 1:29:49Speaker 1: I love in the show before Josh sing gay Chicken
- 1:29:51Speaker 1: along Gay Chicken was funny. You and I used to
- 1:29:53Speaker 1: actually play gay chicken. Yeah. I uh, that's a that's
- 1:29:57Speaker 1: a tough one to win, you know what I mean?
- 1:29:59Speaker 1: That always winds that one. Well, I'm willing, I'm willing
- 1:30:02Speaker 1: to kiss you because you're willing to make out. If
- 1:30:04Speaker 1: you're willing to make out, if you're willing to make out,
- 1:30:06Speaker 1: then you're always the winner. I wanted to say. Leonard
- 1:30:10Speaker 1: playing playing gin and smoking a cigarette in the hospital
- 1:30:14Speaker 1: using his claw hand I thought was funny. I think
- 1:30:17Speaker 1: it's hilarious that JD slept with both Sullivan sisters. Right,
- 1:30:22Speaker 1: I've had sex with both Sullivan sisters, Um, I laughed.
- 1:30:25Speaker 1: I mean shower shorts. Did you think that shower shorts
- 1:30:28Speaker 1: was in this episode? I didn't. I didn't know it
- 1:30:30Speaker 1: was in there. And also this went on into a
- 1:30:35Speaker 1: different television show didn't. It didn't. It's become your Arrested
- 1:30:38Speaker 1: Development character. Didn't your arrested No no no, because in
- 1:30:41Speaker 1: Arrested Development they have a running them where never nude.
- 1:30:44Speaker 1: David Cross is a never knude. He's never naked. He
- 1:30:47Speaker 1: wears jean shorts underneath all his clothes. Josh Raiden loves
- 1:30:49Speaker 1: that show and I was lucky enough to be on
- 1:30:52Speaker 1: that show as a fellow never nude. So yes, I
- 1:30:56Speaker 1: guess that's that's wise that you're saying there is overlap
- 1:30:58Speaker 1: and that both JD and my character and Arrest of
- 1:31:01Speaker 1: Development do not shower fully nude. You're a fucking never nude.
- 1:31:06Speaker 1: That ship was hilarious. Portion Rossi goes, you're a fucking
- 1:31:10Speaker 1: never nude. Yeah, it was so funny. I got to
- 1:31:13Speaker 1: be an ever nude. Um and um shower shorts for
- 1:31:17Speaker 1: the man who has nothing to hide but still wants
- 1:31:20Speaker 1: to That is one of the funniest jokes. And it's
- 1:31:27Speaker 1: got a wallet, It's got a shower short. That's had
- 1:31:29Speaker 1: me rolling the shower shorts with the with the wallet
- 1:31:32Speaker 1: that zips back. And when he pulls it and it
- 1:31:36Speaker 1: zips back, where does it smack him? That's what I
- 1:31:38Speaker 1: want to know as no in the ass, I do
- 1:31:42Speaker 1: a little jump. Okay um and your male talking, Your
- 1:31:51Speaker 1: male talking is hilarious. Dude, your mole, your mold, what
- 1:31:54Speaker 1: does it say? It says, um that you know that's
- 1:31:59Speaker 1: my voice. And I actually did the puppet for that too,
- 1:32:01Speaker 1: for the mole. As we operated the puppet, I operated
- 1:32:04Speaker 1: the puppet for the mold. The mold was my voice
- 1:32:07Speaker 1: and my hand in the mold. Well, the mall was
- 1:32:11Speaker 1: very funny. I don't know why the mall wasn't a
- 1:32:13Speaker 1: recurring character that I would have thought the mole would
- 1:32:16Speaker 1: have come back, but I guess not. I don't know
- 1:32:18Speaker 1: why Bill didn't ever bring the moll back, but that
- 1:32:20Speaker 1: was great. Elliot's Bunyan at the end when the doctor
- 1:32:25Speaker 1: sees and the nurse passes out, you know whenever these
- 1:32:33Speaker 1: whenever a nurse is like a not a normal one
- 1:32:35Speaker 1: of the regular like background nurses, and you just know
- 1:32:38Speaker 1: she's going to be a stunt woman, because I was like, oh,
- 1:32:40Speaker 1: I don't recognize that woman. And then all of a
- 1:32:42Speaker 1: sudden she took a big fall when she fainted it
- 1:32:44Speaker 1: and I was like, oh, she must have been a
- 1:32:45Speaker 1: stunt woman. That was funny. That was very funny. She
- 1:32:48Speaker 1: must have been a stunt woman because it was a
- 1:32:49Speaker 1: perfect fall too. Um. Yeah, and then the word was peons.
- 1:32:53Speaker 1: We should talk about this the whole show before Ted
- 1:32:57Speaker 1: the lawyer has lost one of his band members, is
- 1:33:03Speaker 1: threatening to quit, and the show opens up even with it,
- 1:33:05Speaker 1: You'll always be a worthless peon. You're nothing more than
- 1:33:10Speaker 1: a worthless peon. And then he turns to you know.
- 1:33:13Speaker 1: After Ted hangs up, the pony turns to Kelso and
- 1:33:15Speaker 1: he goes, doctor Kelso, my band, the Worthless Peons has
- 1:33:20Speaker 1: just lost a member. I think this must be the
- 1:33:25Speaker 1: moment that we learned the name of the band the word. Yeah,
- 1:33:27Speaker 1: it is because they are all worthless peons. I mean
- 1:33:30Speaker 1: that's how they all work at the hospital and feel
- 1:33:33Speaker 1: like they're they're peons to everybody. Yeah. And then also
- 1:33:37Speaker 1: Carla talking about how she's a candy bar. The Espinoza
- 1:33:43Speaker 1: is a candy bar, and then Ted asks her does
- 1:33:48Speaker 1: the Espinoza have nugata in the middle. Yeah, that was funny.
- 1:33:52Speaker 1: I thought I thought he was doing that like as
- 1:33:54Speaker 1: a sexual thing, like trying to be like trying to flirt. No,
- 1:33:58Speaker 1: he just like no, I think he's trying to flirt.
- 1:34:01Speaker 1: I think it's a flirty flirt. Let's let's get to
- 1:34:03Speaker 1: the cemetery where it all goes down. Eighteen forty nine
- 1:34:07Speaker 1: is when we see the first shot of the cemetery.
- 1:34:10Speaker 1: And you know, this has been like the most common
- 1:34:12Speaker 1: meme that's ever been sent to me. Though, where do
- 1:34:14Speaker 1: you think we are? A moment that happens at nineteen
- 1:34:17Speaker 1: thirty five, I got goosebumps. I have to say when
- 1:34:21Speaker 1: when it happened, even though I knew it was coming.
- 1:34:24Speaker 1: It's just a really cool sixth sense reveal. Yeah, and
- 1:34:28Speaker 1: well acted by John C McGinley. Also, yes, and the
- 1:34:32Speaker 1: whole episode well, yeah, Zach, absolutely absolutely, you know what.
- 1:34:38Speaker 1: I know you need it so absolutely I don't need it.
- 1:34:41Speaker 1: It's not about me. Johnny's incredible in this episode, and
- 1:34:43Speaker 1: especially at the end when he's crying, it's very moving.
- 1:34:46Speaker 1: He's very good at it. And and watching them all
- 1:34:49Speaker 1: sit Jordan, Danny and Johnny's sitting watching the funeral as
- 1:34:58Speaker 1: he's you know, lowered into the ground and everything like that,
- 1:35:03Speaker 1: I was wondering, who's going to be the one that,
- 1:35:05Speaker 1: you know, because you forget these things, who's the one
- 1:35:08Speaker 1: like I was wondering, does Danny lean on Jordan? Is
- 1:35:10Speaker 1: Jordan's gonna lean on Cox's Cox? You know, how does this?
- 1:35:14Speaker 1: How does this end? Because there needs to be a
- 1:35:16Speaker 1: moment that you know, this family can you know, grieve together,
- 1:35:22Speaker 1: because we're not really you don't really see it. You
- 1:35:25Speaker 1: just see, you know, And this is a very strong
- 1:35:27Speaker 1: and stone wall fan Like these guys are very mean
- 1:35:30Speaker 1: to each other. And I was like, where's the break?
- 1:35:32Speaker 1: Who's gonna break? And when Jordan grabs Cox, that's the
- 1:35:36Speaker 1: first one. But then when jd puts his hand on
- 1:35:39Speaker 1: Cox and he's willing to ast, He's willing, and he's
- 1:35:43Speaker 1: willing to receive the love from well he's gonna receive
- 1:35:48Speaker 1: it from Jordan, but to receive it from his from
- 1:35:50Speaker 1: his colleague, from his work buddy. Very powerful moment. Yeah,
- 1:35:54Speaker 1: it's very moving. And Jordan's character isn't someone who's going
- 1:35:57Speaker 1: to emote, and sob and Johnny sees you thinking isn't either,
- 1:36:01Speaker 1: but he just finally lets go and she looks over
- 1:36:06Speaker 1: at him, and it's very moving. It's beautifully done. I'm
- 1:36:09Speaker 1: so we're very blessed and lucky to have the Josh
- 1:36:12Speaker 1: here who's going to sing live for you and Josh,
- 1:36:16Speaker 1: are you ready? Is everything tuned? Is the capo set?
- 1:36:19Speaker 1: I know all the lingo. Well, I just want to
- 1:36:21Speaker 1: say one last thing before we get into the raiding situation.
- 1:36:24Speaker 1: Josh Man, I didn't get to finish this earlier. I
- 1:36:27Speaker 1: remember watching you in Hotel Cafe me Manny Moore, Mega Kelly,
- 1:36:34Speaker 1: and Zach Braft, the only people in the place, us
- 1:36:38Speaker 1: and the bartender and you and the sound guy. That's
- 1:36:42Speaker 1: it flash cut to you at the Troopadore the first
- 1:36:46Speaker 1: time you played at the Troopadoor Fire one of the
- 1:36:49Speaker 1: best moments of my life to this day, to be
- 1:36:52Speaker 1: able to say, to be able to say I knew
- 1:36:56Speaker 1: you when this was freaking a whimsical idea and now
- 1:37:02Speaker 1: look at you now. It's it's always it always makes
- 1:37:05Speaker 1: me smile to walk into an auditorium and hear you perform,
- 1:37:10Speaker 1: and then not only that, to watch the people listening
- 1:37:13Speaker 1: to you, like I've seen a thugged out dude, like
- 1:37:16Speaker 1: somebody that looks like the dude that's on the skateboard
- 1:37:19Speaker 1: with the um with the with the ocean Spraye, seen
- 1:37:22Speaker 1: somebody like that at your concert doing exactly what he's
- 1:37:26Speaker 1: doing to the Stevie Nick song, singing and along to
- 1:37:29Speaker 1: the Fleetwood Max song. I've seen that, I've seen I've
- 1:37:31Speaker 1: seen you touch people like that, and it's just so
- 1:37:33Speaker 1: powerful to see. So without any further to do, y'all,
- 1:37:36Speaker 1: I've said enough, Joshua. All right, here's josh Raiden with
- 1:37:39Speaker 1: with Winter, the first song he ever wrote. I know
- 1:37:57Speaker 1: who I am, I know I walk the record stands
- 1:38:03Speaker 1: somehow thinking of Unter your name is the splendor inside me.
- 1:38:14Speaker 1: While I'm wait, I remember the sound of your November Downtown,
- 1:38:33Speaker 1: and I remember the truth. I won't December, will you?
- 1:38:41Speaker 1: But I don't have to make this mistake, and I
- 1:38:48Speaker 1: don't have to stay this way. If only I wade
- 1:38:56Speaker 1: walk as sob and clear by now. Your voice it's
- 1:39:03Speaker 1: all I hear somehow you're calling out Winter. Your voice
- 1:39:13Speaker 1: is the splendor inside me while I wait, and I
- 1:39:24Speaker 1: remember the sound. If you want November downtown, I remember
- 1:39:36Speaker 1: the truth. I want December with you. But I don't
- 1:39:44Speaker 1: have to make this mistake, and I don't have to
- 1:39:51Speaker 1: stay this way. If only I I could have lost
- 1:40:00Speaker 1: myself in rough blue waters in your eyes and I
- 1:40:09Speaker 1: miss you still. I remember the sound off your November downtown.
- 1:40:25Speaker 1: I remember the truth. I wanted December with you. But
- 1:40:33Speaker 1: I don't have to make this mistake and I don't
- 1:40:40Speaker 1: have to stay this way. If only I waited. M Yeah, wow, wow,
- 1:41:00Speaker 1: that's so beautiful. Josh. Thank you. When I hear that song,
- 1:41:04Speaker 1: I go, I can't believe I know the guy who

- 1:41:10Speaker 1: Thank you so much. It's very kind and uh, thank
- 1:41:14Speaker 1: you for starting my career. Well, I I if it
- 1:41:19Speaker 1: wasn't me, it would have been somebody else. Um. Well,
- 1:41:23Speaker 1: but you never know. Um. Josh, remind people how if

- 1:41:59Speaker 1: travels all over the world. Um, it's very popular in Europe, right, Josh,
- 1:42:04Speaker 1: Josh is like um, Bruce Springsteen and Sweden. Not very
- 1:42:08Speaker 1: popularly of Sweden. No, I have a small cult following
- 1:42:12Speaker 1: group of people who know my songs from medical shows.
- 1:42:15Speaker 1: But that's fair. No, And and Josh, that's that's that
- 1:42:18Speaker 1: you're you're exactly you're you're you're what are you being here?
- 1:42:21Speaker 1: Just being dismissive of yourself? You're being self deprecating, Josh Donald,
- 1:42:26Speaker 1: you're still here with us? Well I'm here though. Can
- 1:42:29Speaker 1: we can we just have Donald admit to everyone that
- 1:42:32Speaker 1: I did not mess up my own song? Okay? Fine?
- 1:42:35Speaker 1: Is that is that what you're waiting for? Yeah, it's anyways,
- 1:42:37Speaker 1: we came on the podcast. Look all right, So here's
- 1:42:39Speaker 1: the thing. Here's the thing. Here's the thing. Remind you
- 1:42:41Speaker 1: were mess you did? Mind listeners, what was said? I
- 1:42:45Speaker 1: said that he blew, he messed up his own song.
- 1:42:47Speaker 1: We didn't mess up his own song. You messed it
- 1:42:51Speaker 1: up by not singing the whole song straight through, like
- 1:42:55Speaker 1: you forgot some words here. I didn't forget anyone. This
- 1:42:58Speaker 1: is the thing. I will say this, sirs, say that
- 1:43:02Speaker 1: has happened. And I'm listening you. You've been talking all day, Okay,
- 1:43:09Speaker 1: go ahead, let him have his moment. I'm running the
- 1:43:11Speaker 1: stairs when the podcast started listening to this thing, and
- 1:43:14Speaker 1: all of a sudden, you start talking about me and
- 1:43:15Speaker 1: how you asked me to play your for your in
- 1:43:17Speaker 1: Casey's first dance at your wedding, and you asked for
- 1:43:19Speaker 1: one of my songs and it was you asked for
- 1:43:22Speaker 1: the song Paperweight, which at the time, UM, I went
- 1:43:26Speaker 1: for about eight years or something without playing that song live.
- 1:43:29Speaker 1: It was too painful. I wrote it with my X
- 1:43:30Speaker 1: and when we split up, I just decided I didn't
- 1:43:32Speaker 1: want to play anymore. Now I played It's been whatever
- 1:43:34Speaker 1: it's been time. Have you has played it together yet? No? No,
- 1:43:37Speaker 1: we haven't seen. We haven't hung out in years and years.
- 1:43:40Speaker 1: I would love to see that. Oh we should get
- 1:43:42Speaker 1: down on the show Dome. That would be dope, but
- 1:43:44Speaker 1: I would for sure either way. What I'm saying is,
- 1:43:47Speaker 1: you asked me to play a song of mine called
- 1:43:49Speaker 1: they Bring Me to You, and so I did. But
- 1:43:51Speaker 1: the live version of that song, it's a different version
- 1:43:54Speaker 1: than the recording. Oh, I know because you have a
- 1:43:55Speaker 1: female singing with you and it's just so much different production.
- 1:43:59Speaker 1: But when you play solo acoustic life, so you have
- 1:44:02Speaker 1: to remember. I'm running the stairs listening to your podcast
- 1:44:05Speaker 1: and I hear you do your Oprah voice. Of like,
- 1:44:08Speaker 1: then he fucked up his own song, and I'm like,
- 1:44:11Speaker 1: I spit out my water. I started laughing. So and
- 1:44:15Speaker 1: then of course I texted you right afterwards. I'm like,
- 1:44:17Speaker 1: what are you talking about it? Right away? You were like,
- 1:44:20Speaker 1: first of all, I did not fuck up. I just
- 1:44:22Speaker 1: want the audience to know that. Donald asked Josh to
- 1:44:24Speaker 1: sing him and his wife's first song in his wedding
- 1:44:26Speaker 1: and then made fun of him on front of thousands
- 1:44:30Speaker 1: of people because he didn't like the version. Josh sang,
- 1:44:33Speaker 1: it's me, It's me, all right, we've gone two hours.
- 1:44:37Speaker 1: Don't know. We don't entertain you. I know, right, I
- 1:44:40Speaker 1: just but ye that being said, But I do love
- 1:44:44Speaker 1: and I love you too, that being said, though. Man.
- 1:44:47Speaker 1: At my wedding, when we were sitting up in Zach's
- 1:44:51Speaker 1: house getting ready myself, Josh and zach Um, Josh sits
- 1:44:57Speaker 1: down and he starts strumming on the guitar and just
- 1:45:00Speaker 1: start singing, and he writes a song at my wedding,
- 1:45:05Speaker 1: and I then hear the song maybe like a year
- 1:45:08Speaker 1: later on a plane ride to New York, and I
- 1:45:11Speaker 1: remember hitting him up and being like, dude, that song
- 1:45:13Speaker 1: you wrote at my wedding is playing on the plane
- 1:45:17Speaker 1: and it's the one where it's like it's a wedding,
- 1:45:20Speaker 1: it's a freaking love song, man, And I can't remember,
- 1:45:23Speaker 1: but it's like, if you go something like, I'll find
- 1:45:28Speaker 1: you something. Come on, I haven't played that song and forever.
- 1:45:32Speaker 1: You wrote that at my wedding, and so I have
- 1:45:35Speaker 1: to find it now so that Daniel could play it
- 1:45:38Speaker 1: out if you laid it down, josh right. It's available
- 1:45:40Speaker 1: to an album called of mine called Waxwings. Daniel, It's
- 1:45:45Speaker 1: on Waxwings. Thank you everybody. The onesies Joel told me
- 1:45:48Speaker 1: are are restocked on twelve eighteen, if you want to
- 1:45:51Speaker 1: give the love of me and Donald on your body,
- 1:45:55Speaker 1: and thank you to Daniel, Joelle, Lena, our guests. And
- 1:45:59Speaker 1: here is Joshua Raden with the song Donald, just beautifully.
- 1:46:08Speaker 1: What's the call? When we're together? When we're together, y'all,
- 1:46:11Speaker 1: bae Angsky of the water Fire at Nights no pleasure
- 1:46:18Speaker 1: without sacrifice. Shore and the ocean, the moon sun, one
- 1:46:25Speaker 1: way without the other hand boat done. Now, I believe
- 1:46:31Speaker 1: you what's supposed to be supposed to be you and
- 1:46:36Speaker 1: me ah you forever because we are the best. Gather
- 1:46:47Speaker 1: ah with you forever. You are the old one, and
- 1:46:54Speaker 1: we've just been done. Let the waiting new lotion fall
- 1:47:07Speaker 1: on my shore. Your glass is empty, porson more. I
- 1:47:13Speaker 1: left the table lack of news any time to search
- 1:47:20Speaker 1: for you. Now, I believe you what's supposed to be

- 1:48:25Speaker 1: and we've just begun with you forever, with you forever
