- 0:00Speaker: Hey. What's up?
- 0:01Speaker: This is Rae with Get Real Rae.
- 0:03Speaker: A place and space for life and
- 0:05Speaker: business tips from this creative
- 0:06Speaker: soul to hopefully inspire you on
- 0:08Speaker: your journey, or at the very
- 0:09Speaker: least, provide you with some
- 0:10Speaker: loves.
- 0:11Speaker: Yay!
- 0:12Speaker: And so let's get real.
- 0:15Speaker: Let's get real about the thing
- 0:18Speaker: that yoga and bank accounts have
- 0:22Speaker: in common.
- 0:23Speaker: Craving real advice.
- 0:25Speaker: Tired of feeling like every other small business owner or
- 0:28Speaker: solopreneur is raking in the dough while you just seem to be
- 0:32Speaker: raking secretly looking for a reminder that starting your own
- 0:36Speaker: business is not as glamorous as others make it look.
- 0:39Speaker: Whether you're looking to change the game in your relationships
- 0:43Speaker: at home or at the workplace, you've come to the right place.
- 0:46Speaker: My name is Rae.
- 0:47Speaker: I went from corporate America to running my own small business to
- 0:51Speaker: becoming a solopreneur.
- 0:52Speaker: I'm a professional actor and dare we say, a professional busy
- 0:56Speaker: body because this body is about to be busy all up in your biz.
- 1:00Speaker: So let's get real.
- 1:03Speaker: Doo doo doo.
- 1:04Speaker: Okay, so I haven't done a
- 1:12Speaker: movement video for my other
- 1:14Speaker: channel choreography by Rae in a
- 1:17Speaker: while.
- 1:18Speaker: I've recorded some stuff but just haven't posted it.
- 1:21Speaker: I've been super busy with going
- 1:25Speaker: between houses, editing other
- 1:28Speaker: things.
- 1:30Speaker: Actually, just yesterday, instead of being able to work on
- 1:35Speaker: recording some podcast episodes, what did I wind up doing with my
- 1:39Speaker: day for several hours?
- 1:41Speaker: Was trying to fix an issue with one of my websites because lo
- 1:46Speaker: and behold, when I tried to just click on anything, the site was
- 1:52Speaker: moving terribly slowly.
- 1:54Speaker: And then once I fixed the speed issue.
- 1:58Speaker: All of a sudden that meant that
- 2:01Speaker: I had to stop using a certain
- 2:05Speaker: plugin.
- 2:05Speaker: Will I need that plugin in order for people to get their content?
- 2:08Speaker: Oh, okay, now that I fixed that.
- 2:13Speaker: Oh well, I'm gonna use that plugin.
- 2:16Speaker: So is there something else that's slowing down the site?
- 2:18Speaker: All these images are slowing down the side.
- 2:20Speaker: I use a CDN, but apparently that's not enough.
- 2:23Speaker: So now I have to convert the images to a different format.
- 2:26Speaker: You see?
- 2:27Speaker: And there was more than one website having issues.
- 2:32Speaker: The server kept crashing.
- 2:34Speaker: I'm like, what is going on in
- 2:35Speaker: all these websites are on the
- 2:36Speaker: same server.
- 2:37Speaker: So now I have to go, why is this server crashing?
- 2:40Speaker: What's going on?
- 2:42Speaker: I switched hosting platforms so that I can have a reliable
- 2:45Speaker: server that is speedy.
- 2:48Speaker: Um, so yeah, hours gone.
- 2:51Speaker: And I realized this is not the first time this week that where
- 2:55Speaker: I was supposed to be doing something else, but I ended up
- 2:59Speaker: spending hours dealing with these web issues.
- 3:02Speaker: Now, if you were a solopreneur
- 3:03Speaker: and you have your tech person on
- 3:06Speaker: speed dial or I don't know what
- 3:09Speaker: you young people do, are you
- 3:11Speaker: texting your tech person,
- 3:13Speaker: messaging them?
- 3:16Speaker: Don't tell me you hit you slide into their DMs on TikTok.
- 3:19Speaker: Hey, regular tech person, just me up in your DMs.
- 3:22Speaker: That's just stupid.
- 3:24Speaker: Don't do that.
- 3:24Speaker: Don't do that.
- 3:25Speaker: Anyway.
- 3:27Speaker: I am the tech person most of the time.
- 3:30Speaker: On occasion, I go onto Fiverr.
- 3:32Speaker: I try to look up somebody that I've used in the past.
- 3:36Speaker: But when you have a very small
- 3:39Speaker: budget, you don't want to
- 3:42Speaker: outsource every single little
- 3:44Speaker: thing.
- 3:45Speaker: You want to be able to solve some stuff yourself.
- 3:48Speaker: And especially if you can't
- 3:51Speaker: solve it yourself, know what
- 3:53Speaker: you're giving to the other
- 3:54Speaker: person.
- 3:55Speaker: know enough about your setup?
- 3:56Speaker: Or you can say to somebody, okay, these are the things that
- 3:59Speaker: I did, or this is the error message that I'm getting.
- 4:03Speaker: Help me problem solve.
- 4:04Speaker: Anyway.
- 4:05Speaker: So hours gone and I am coming
- 4:11Speaker: towards the end of being in a
- 4:13Speaker: beautiful home with beautiful
- 4:15Speaker: dogs and just really loving life
- 4:18Speaker: over here.
- 4:20Speaker: What I did this morning was I
- 4:23Speaker: woke up and I said, you know
- 4:24Speaker: what?
- 4:25Speaker: I'm just not just going to take my shower.
- 4:28Speaker: I'm going to take my shower and
- 4:30Speaker: I'm going to go outside and do
- 4:31Speaker: yoga.
- 4:32Speaker: The temperature is cool enough
- 4:34Speaker: where I'm not going to be
- 4:35Speaker: melting.
- 4:35Speaker: It's been so hot where we are.
- 4:37Speaker: Um, and the dogs really want to be next to me.
- 4:43Speaker: So me and the dogs went outside
- 4:45Speaker: and I thought, oh, I don't have
- 4:47Speaker: a yoga mat and I've only got one
- 4:49Speaker: yoga block.
- 4:52Speaker: It's okay.
- 4:53Speaker: Just go.
- 4:54Speaker: Just go.
- 4:54Speaker: Be outside.
- 4:54Speaker: So I put down a big old beach towel.
- 4:56Speaker: I grabbed my one yoga block and my, um, my yoga strap and I
- 5:03Speaker: said, okay, well, now I need to set up the cameras.
- 5:07Speaker: Maybe I should do two cameras
- 5:09Speaker: and see how that goes just for
- 5:12Speaker: something different with these
- 5:12Speaker: videos.
- 5:13Speaker: And I have to remind myself, okay, for these videos, you
- 5:16Speaker: don't have to talk out loud.
- 5:17Speaker: You're going to do the voice over afterwards.
- 5:20Speaker: And that's part of the reason
- 5:22Speaker: why it takes me to get the
- 5:23Speaker: videos up.
- 5:24Speaker: And then I'm thinking, oh, should I have music?
- 5:27Speaker: Do I play the music while I'm
- 5:28Speaker: moving so that I'm in my flow
- 5:30Speaker: when it feels good, really easy
- 5:31Speaker: for editing or just slap music
- 5:33Speaker: on later?
- 5:34Speaker: Well, let's play it.
- 5:35Speaker: So while I'm setting everything up, the dogs are so excited
- 5:37Speaker: because they want to be near me and they're like, oh, we're
- 5:39Speaker: gonna be outside!
- 5:40Speaker: Yay!
- 5:40Speaker: And so then they start fighting each other because that's
- 5:43Speaker: playtime for doggies.
- 5:44Speaker: And yesterday they spent most of their time just, just laying on
- 5:49Speaker: the floor being like, the heat is too much.
- 5:53Speaker: We love this air conditioning.
- 5:55Speaker: We wish you would take us for a walk.
- 5:58Speaker: But we know that she's sweating too, so she's not going to.
- 6:01Speaker: Oh, man.
- 6:03Speaker: And we took our walk really, really late in the day.
- 6:05Speaker: But I recognized these dogs have been just laying here on the
- 6:08Speaker: floor almost all day.
- 6:10Speaker: And their owners are probably
- 6:12Speaker: thinking like, are our dogs
- 6:14Speaker: alive?
- 6:14Speaker: They haven't moved in hours.
- 6:18Speaker: Um, so lo and behold, I. Do not want to put them in the house
- 6:28Speaker: while I was recording.
- 6:29Speaker: Just dogs be outside with me.
- 6:30Speaker: And while I'm recording, the
- 6:32Speaker: dogs are playing with each
- 6:33Speaker: other.
- 6:34Speaker: Then the play comes into my camera frame and at one point,
- 6:38Speaker: like, dog comes over.
- 6:40Speaker: It's just dog.
- 6:40Speaker: But in my face I'm like, oh man, dog got in my face.
- 6:44Speaker: And then they hit the camera and everything's going crazy.
- 6:47Speaker: But I stay in my practice.
- 6:49Speaker: I just keep doing my stretches.
- 6:52Speaker: And at one point I'm like, oh
- 6:53Speaker: man, I think I skipped a
- 6:55Speaker: stretch.
- 6:56Speaker: The thing is, the moral of the story is people.
- 6:59Speaker: I did not have a plan beyond I
- 7:02Speaker: want to do yoga outside this
- 7:04Speaker: morning.
- 7:04Speaker: That was it.
- 7:05Speaker: That was my plan.
- 7:07Speaker: Stan.
- 7:08Speaker: Nothing else.
- 7:10Speaker: Nothing else.
- 7:12Speaker: It wasn't.
- 7:13Speaker: I want to do yoga outside and really make sure that I do a
- 7:16Speaker: flow for bad back or stiff hips or shoulder pain.
- 7:22Speaker: A lot of times when I do my videos for choreography by Rae,
- 7:25Speaker: they're focused on certain parts of the body because that's what
- 7:28Speaker: I'm feeling that day.
- 7:29Speaker: Not as a, oh, I feel like talking about this.
- 7:32Speaker: As in, yo, I woke up and my back is messed up.
- 7:35Speaker: I need to figure out how to fix this.
- 7:37Speaker: Or my hamstrings are so tight, my legs really, really hurt.
- 7:39Speaker: How do I fix this?
- 7:42Speaker: That wasn't the feeling this morning.
- 7:44Speaker: This morning I woke up feeling pretty spanking, thinking good.
- 7:48Speaker: Mhm.
- 7:48Speaker: Mhm.
- 7:49Speaker: I was like, whoa.
- 7:51Speaker: I don't have any achy breaky pain.
- 7:55Speaker: And this was a really nice thing, especially since the last
- 7:58Speaker: week or so, I've been dealing with a lot of pain in my legs.
- 8:03Speaker: I stopped taking my creatine, y'all.
- 8:06Speaker: I ran out and I thought, I'm not
- 8:07Speaker: gonna buy more creatine while
- 8:09Speaker: I'm only in this town for
- 8:11Speaker: another week.
- 8:13Speaker: Two weeks.
- 8:14Speaker: Okay.
- 8:15Speaker: I ran out over a week ago, so
- 8:16Speaker: I'm only gonna be here for two
- 8:17Speaker: weeks.
- 8:18Speaker: I'm not gonna buy more creatine.
- 8:20Speaker: Also, they, um.
- 8:22Speaker: I knew that mayo wasn't coming
- 8:24Speaker: to the house, so getting more
- 8:25Speaker: creatine unless I was doing it
- 8:27Speaker: through Amazon, it was going to
- 8:28Speaker: be kind of complicated because
- 8:29Speaker: you have to make sure that it's
- 8:30Speaker: going to be not put something
- 8:32Speaker: that the postal person would
- 8:34Speaker: bring anyway.
- 8:36Speaker: Look, I'm gonna be fine.
- 8:37Speaker: There was years, months when I haven't taken creatine.
- 8:41Speaker: Maybe this is all hype.
- 8:42Speaker: Anyway, I'll be fine.
- 8:44Speaker: I tell you, and this is probably
- 8:46Speaker: just aging, but I been
- 8:51Speaker: struggling.
- 8:52Speaker: I did do the rowing machine.
- 8:55Speaker: Um, a little bit.
- 8:57Speaker: And I thought maybe it's because I was doing the rowing machine
- 9:01Speaker: that my legs are so sore.
- 9:04Speaker: This is crazy.
- 9:05Speaker: It should not be like this.
- 9:06Speaker: I don't know if I can teach more dance classes.
- 9:09Speaker: I found myself sitting through most of my classes just because
- 9:11Speaker: my legs hurt so bad.
- 9:14Speaker: I was wondering if I had inflammation again.
- 9:20Speaker: I'm like, oh, I think my pants fit okay, but this isn't right.
- 9:25Speaker: No one's legs should feel like this.
- 9:27Speaker: I tried one night.
- 9:28Speaker: I just had my legs up the wall and like, okay, I'm supposed to
- 9:33Speaker: be going to sleep, but I'll just have my legs elevated,
- 9:35Speaker: completely perpendicular while I try to sleep.
- 9:39Speaker: And just maybe for like ten
- 9:40Speaker: minutes, just have them
- 9:41Speaker: perpendicular.
- 9:42Speaker: Maybe that'll help with the drainage.
- 9:44Speaker: I don't know what's going on.
- 9:46Speaker: Finally I broke down and I said, you know what?
- 9:49Speaker: I'm only going to be here for a
- 9:51Speaker: few more days, but I can't take
- 9:54Speaker: this anymore.
- 9:54Speaker: I can barely walk.
- 9:56Speaker: Even when I'm just sitting, I'm in pain.
- 10:00Speaker: This is not okay.
- 10:02Speaker: I ordered the creatine with a Costco order.
- 10:05Speaker: Thank you.
- 10:06Speaker: Costco.
- 10:07Speaker: Because I don't know why I didn't think of them, but I knew
- 10:10Speaker: I needed groceries.
- 10:11Speaker: I was like, maybe Costco has creatine.
- 10:13Speaker: Oh, oh, Costco got creatine.
- 10:18Speaker: And it's like this big old container, y'all.
- 10:22Speaker: So good thing I'm gonna be checking my suitcase on the way
- 10:25Speaker: back this time, because this container is so big, it's gonna
- 10:29Speaker: take up a good portion of space in my suitcase.
- 10:34Speaker: So there's that.
- 10:36Speaker: I'm flying home with a big old
- 10:38Speaker: one hundred and thirty some odd
- 10:40Speaker: serving container of creatine,
- 10:42Speaker: plus a two pound bag of bamboo
- 10:46Speaker: fiber.
- 10:47Speaker: There's another cookie video coming I got.
- 10:50Speaker: I gotta tweak the recipe today,
- 10:52Speaker: but lo and behold, I was like,
- 10:54Speaker: okay, I know this doesn't make
- 10:56Speaker: any sense.
- 10:57Speaker: This container is so big, but I desperately need to fix my legs.
- 11:01Speaker: And this is the solution as
- 11:04Speaker: opposed to waiting longer for
- 11:06Speaker: Walmart, waiting longer for
- 11:07Speaker: Amazon.
- 11:09Speaker: This Costco order is coming today along with my tofu.
- 11:13Speaker: We gonna be good.
- 11:15Speaker: And sure enough, that night I took my creatine and I this was
- 11:23Speaker: a powder form.
- 11:24Speaker: I'm not used to it in powder, but I mixed it up in water and
- 11:28Speaker: after a little bit I was like, oh, sitting here feels okay.
- 11:34Speaker: Oh, getting off the floor feels okay.
- 11:39Speaker: Oh, child, I feel like I got new legs.
- 11:41Speaker: Woof woof woof.
- 11:42Speaker: This morning.
- 11:43Speaker: The first thing I did have a glass of.
- 11:45Speaker: Okay.
- 11:45Speaker: After I brushed my teeth and
- 11:47Speaker: showered glass of water with the
- 11:50Speaker: creatine, and part of me was
- 11:53Speaker: like, oh, this powder is kind of
- 11:55Speaker: gritty.
- 11:56Speaker: Mhm.
- 11:57Speaker: But I am so grateful for how my legs feel.
- 11:59Speaker: I, I'm gonna love this grit every morning.
- 12:03Speaker: And I think this is gonna have to come before my morning cup of
- 12:07Speaker: tea or morning cup of coffee.
- 12:10Speaker: There's like, this Trader Joe's
- 12:11Speaker: coffee alternative thing that I
- 12:13Speaker: am loving.
- 12:14Speaker: And I am not a coffee person.
- 12:16Speaker: Never like the taste of coffee.
- 12:17Speaker: Took me a while to get used to the flavor of this because it
- 12:20Speaker: tastes like coffee.
- 12:21Speaker: Um, but now I'm like, oh, this coffee thing is just rocking my
- 12:25Speaker: world and there's no caffeine.
- 12:27Speaker: Yay!
- 12:28Speaker: So here we are.
- 12:32Speaker: And I had my creatine.
- 12:35Speaker: My legs are feeling good.
- 12:37Speaker: I woke up feeling good.
- 12:38Speaker: And when you wake up feeling good, this can really Change
- 12:42Speaker: your whole day.
- 12:44Speaker: I feel like I have a ton of time today.
- 12:46Speaker: I would normally be getting
- 12:49Speaker: ready for my classes, getting
- 12:53Speaker: into teaching, checking my
- 12:55Speaker: emails a bunch of times,
- 12:56Speaker: checking my bills a bunch of
- 12:57Speaker: times.
- 12:58Speaker: Uh. I've already checked things.
- 13:03Speaker: I actually woke up later today
- 13:04Speaker: because I stayed up late last
- 13:05Speaker: night and I've already been
- 13:08Speaker: outside.
- 13:09Speaker: It is not even quite nine o'clock.
- 13:12Speaker: Okay, so I've started recording this video.
- 13:16Speaker: I went outside and did a yoga video.
- 13:19Speaker: I fed the dog, checked my bills,
- 13:23Speaker: check my bank account, check my
- 13:25Speaker: email.
- 13:27Speaker: I've already got stuff going.
- 13:29Speaker: And I feel good.
- 13:30Speaker: And I'm so excited about the rest of the day.
- 13:33Speaker: I took time to do my hair,
- 13:35Speaker: recorded some acting stuff and
- 13:37Speaker: I've only been up since six
- 13:39Speaker: thirty.
- 13:42Speaker: it's amazing how much you can
- 13:44Speaker: get done a when you're not in
- 13:46Speaker: pain.
- 13:47Speaker: Ooh, child.
- 13:50Speaker: B when you allow yourself to just do.
- 13:56Speaker: And yes, as I was going through that yoga video, I was thinking,
- 14:01Speaker: oh, do I want to do a full focus on my hips?
- 14:06Speaker: Don't want to do full focus on my back.
- 14:07Speaker: What do I want to do this flow focus on?
- 14:09Speaker: I didn't plan anything.
- 14:11Speaker: And then I told myself, no, it doesn't really matter.
- 14:14Speaker: Just do it.
- 14:16Speaker: Just move.
- 14:18Speaker: Even if you don't even use this video on YouTube, just move.
- 14:23Speaker: Give yourself that gift of movement.
- 14:26Speaker: Don't stop.
- 14:29Speaker: Just do it.
- 14:31Speaker: Just go.
- 14:33Speaker: Why?
- 14:36Speaker: Partly because I want to practice yoga more.
- 14:40Speaker: I always like it when I do it, so why not?
- 14:44Speaker: Two.
- 14:46Speaker: Creating content for my movement YouTube channel has dropped to
- 14:55Speaker: the bottom of my priority list.
- 14:58Speaker: Oh, it's never going to be as good as all those other
- 15:00Speaker: YouTubers, so I'll do it when I can do it when I can.
- 15:07Speaker: I have been in a number of locations recently where doing
- 15:10Speaker: these videos just would have been too complicated.
- 15:15Speaker: Small spaces, lots of construction, my energy, my
- 15:21Speaker: nervous system, my stress levels, all of it.
- 15:25Speaker: Just all over the place.
- 15:26Speaker: So trying to create some calm feeling video of stretching and
- 15:33Speaker: not feeling pain.
- 15:35Speaker: I'm just too stressed.
- 15:37Speaker: I got construction going on, you know, six to eight hours a day
- 15:43Speaker: next door, starting early with the banging and the drilling
- 15:47Speaker: cats crying constantly, or the room is ridiculously hot and I'm
- 15:54Speaker: just sweating like a pig, or there's stuff all over the walls
- 16:01Speaker: of the home.
- 16:02Speaker: And so I don't want someone
- 16:05Speaker: else's family photos being in my
- 16:07Speaker: videos.
- 16:07Speaker: That's an invasion of their privacy and an editing nightmare
- 16:12Speaker: and too hot to go outside all the bugs on you.
- 16:17Speaker: So this location has been a blessing.
- 16:22Speaker: I've walked into every room
- 16:25Speaker: feeling inspired to do
- 16:28Speaker: something.
- 16:31Speaker: We're going to come back to that.
- 16:34Speaker: So we said.
- 16:38Speaker: Just do.
- 16:40Speaker: Even if you don't have a plan.
- 16:42Speaker: The perfect plan.
- 16:44Speaker: Just do.
- 16:47Speaker: We did mention bank accounts at the beginning, did we not?
- 16:50Speaker: Mhm.
- 16:51Speaker: So if you are someone who's been
- 16:54Speaker: in the financial YouTuber
- 16:56Speaker: sphere, then you might already
- 16:59Speaker: know.
- 16:59Speaker: And if you've never looked at any financial videos on YouTube
- 17:03Speaker: or peruse any financial podcasts, you might like.
- 17:07Speaker: What the h are you talking about, lady?
- 17:09Speaker: I came here because my life is a mess and you're supposed to give
- 17:14Speaker: it to me.
- 17:15Speaker: Real.
- 17:16Speaker: Rae, what am I gonna do?
- 17:18Speaker: My life is a mess.
- 17:19Speaker: Okay, chill.
- 17:24Speaker: Look, when you put money into
- 17:29Speaker: any kind of account that bears
- 17:31Speaker: interest.
- 17:33Speaker: High interest savings account.
- 17:36Speaker: Basic savings account stocks, funds.
- 17:44Speaker: There's a term called compound
- 17:47Speaker: interest, meaning when you put
- 17:50Speaker: something in and you let it sit
- 17:53Speaker: there.
- 17:54Speaker: Mhm.
- 17:56Speaker: The institution you've invested in will give you a little money
- 18:00Speaker: just for leaving your money there, just for trusting them.
- 18:04Speaker: Let's let's leave it that way.
- 18:05Speaker: You trust it.
- 18:06Speaker: Let's just think of a savings bank account.
- 18:08Speaker: You trusted us.
- 18:10Speaker: Thanks so much.
- 18:12Speaker: We're gonna give you a few pennies just for trusting us.
- 18:15Speaker: Thank you.
- 18:17Speaker: Now, we know it's way more complicated than that, but just.
- 18:20Speaker: Just take it at that baby.
- 18:22Speaker: Simple step.
- 18:24Speaker: And if you let the money sit there long enough, at the end of
- 18:29Speaker: the year, you might be like, oh, hey, I've got a few extra
- 18:33Speaker: dollars, depending on how much you let sit there.
- 18:36Speaker: A few extra hundred dollars when you're looking at the world of
- 18:40Speaker: stocks and investing.
- 18:42Speaker: Now that could be beyond a few extra hundred, depending on how
- 18:46Speaker: much you've got invested.
- 18:47Speaker: A few extra thousand, right?
- 18:51Speaker: You took money and you invested in that ETF.
- 18:56Speaker: And then that money was given to the companies that are a part of
- 19:02Speaker: that portfolio because they're taking the money.
- 19:09Speaker: I know I'm explaining it a little weird, but I've tried to
- 19:11Speaker: keep it super simple.
- 19:12Speaker: So these companies, they take money from the people who've
- 19:16Speaker: invested in them and they keep their businesses running.
- 19:20Speaker: They make investment in different infrastructure.
- 19:23Speaker: They try to generate more
- 19:24Speaker: revenue, they generate more
- 19:25Speaker: revenue.
- 19:25Speaker: And as a thank you to all the
- 19:27Speaker: investors, they have to give
- 19:29Speaker: back some money to the
- 19:30Speaker: investors.
- 19:31Speaker: And that's your for dividends.
- 19:32Speaker: And so you could certainly be looking like, wow, I've got a
- 19:37Speaker: few extra thousand this year.
- 19:40Speaker: And all I had to do was invest and trust compound interest.
- 19:50Speaker: You put something in and over time it grows.
- 19:57Speaker: And whereas it could have just been, oh, I just got a few extra
- 20:03Speaker: hundred a month or an extra fifty, not a month, a year, an
- 20:08Speaker: extra fifty dollars a year or extra twenty dollars a year
- 20:11Speaker: after a few years, because all of that pool of that money has
- 20:17Speaker: been growing, suddenly it seems like there's a leap.
- 20:21Speaker: And that compound interest goes
- 20:23Speaker: from, oh, look at me, I got
- 20:25Speaker: twenty dollars to all of a
- 20:27Speaker: sudden I got an extra two
- 20:31Speaker: hundred.
- 20:33Speaker: I got an extra two thousand.
- 20:34Speaker: I got an extra twenty thousand.
- 20:37Speaker: Compound interest is a beautiful thing, and a lot of people don't
- 20:42Speaker: trust the markets.
- 20:43Speaker: Totally understandable.
- 20:44Speaker: Markets are always going up and
- 20:45Speaker: down, but that does not mean you
- 20:48Speaker: should not trust compound
- 20:49Speaker: interest.
- 20:51Speaker: And there are people out there going I don't trust the banks.
- 20:54Speaker: Okay.
- 20:55Speaker: Depending on what country you
- 20:56Speaker: are in, that might be you might
- 20:58Speaker: not want to trust your bank,
- 21:00Speaker: right?
- 21:01Speaker: However, at least in the US, the
- 21:04Speaker: banks are what are called FDIC
- 21:06Speaker: insured, which means that up to
- 21:07Speaker: a certain amount, if your money
- 21:09Speaker: is gone because the bank goes
- 21:11Speaker: out of business or the bank is
- 21:12Speaker: robbed, you are insured, which
- 21:14Speaker: means you will get your money
- 21:15Speaker: back.
- 21:16Speaker: You can't say the same thing about the money.
- 21:18Speaker: You keep it under the mattress in your house.
- 21:20Speaker: Your house is robbed.
- 21:22Speaker: That mattress money is gone.
- 21:23Speaker: House burned.
- 21:24Speaker: Right?
- 21:25Speaker: There's a house fire.
- 21:26Speaker: Your mattress money is gone.
- 21:28Speaker: There's no insurance on the mattress money.
- 21:31Speaker: Okay, I think we get the point here.
- 21:33Speaker: So don't be a silly Billy.
- 21:37Speaker: If you if your bank has insurance.
- 21:41Speaker: Please, please.
- 21:43Speaker: Goodness gracious people, help yourself out and put money in
- 21:48Speaker: the bank into an account that bears interest and put a little
- 21:54Speaker: bit of money into account.
- 21:55Speaker: That bears interest, where you
- 21:57Speaker: won't have to touch that money
- 21:59Speaker: so you can get compound
- 22:01Speaker: interest.
- 22:04Speaker: And just like my yoga practice.
- 22:09Speaker: Doing a little bit every day, even if it's not perfect.
- 22:14Speaker: I almost fell once doing a dancer pose.
- 22:17Speaker: Mhm.
- 22:18Speaker: When I was in downward dog dogs, but came on to the camera view
- 22:23Speaker: when I was sitting in a Squat, but again, just right up in my
- 22:31Speaker: face and I'm thinking, I don't want dog bone in my face.
- 22:36Speaker: But I do want to complete my practice.
- 22:41Speaker: And actually, the stress is good for me because I am committed to
- 22:46Speaker: my movement right now and chaos is all around me.
- 22:52Speaker: There is construction out back and I'm hearing people hammering
- 22:55Speaker: things and the dogs are barking and all over the place.
- 22:58Speaker: But that's okay, because I'm gonna finish this practice.
- 23:04Speaker: I thought I was out there for like a half an hour, probably
- 23:07Speaker: was only out there for ten minutes, but that's okay.
- 23:10Speaker: I finished my practice, I
- 23:12Speaker: finished my flow, and I ended
- 23:14Speaker: where I wanted to end with bank
- 23:20Speaker: accounts.
- 23:20Speaker: Right.
- 23:22Speaker: We said you would vest a little
- 23:24Speaker: bit and over time it grows with
- 23:27Speaker: the yoga practice, with any
- 23:30Speaker: movement practice.
- 23:31Speaker: Let's not even just focus about
- 23:33Speaker: yoga because being that rowing
- 23:34Speaker: machine, we don't get it again
- 23:36Speaker: today.
- 23:36Speaker: Mhm.
- 23:38Speaker: Just doing a little bit, even if
- 23:41Speaker: it's not perfect compound
- 23:44Speaker: interest.
- 23:45Speaker: Now I'm not making money, but my body will be stronger, more
- 23:53Speaker: flexible, less stiff, happier.
- 23:58Speaker: I'm doing a good thing for my body, my mind, which had been
- 24:05Speaker: really sad because I was so sore for so long.
- 24:09Speaker: And also all kinds of things
- 24:11Speaker: going on up here, stressing
- 24:13Speaker: about audits and having to
- 24:16Speaker: figure out where am I going
- 24:18Speaker: next, where's the next house
- 24:19Speaker: sit?
- 24:19Speaker: Do I have enough money for this?
- 24:21Speaker: Do I have enough money for that?
- 24:22Speaker: I want to level up this other thing in my business.
- 24:25Speaker: Can I do that right now?
- 24:26Speaker: Doesn't need to wait till next month.
- 24:29Speaker: None of that mattered in that moment.
- 24:33Speaker: Taking the time to just do a short practice.
- 24:39Speaker: Not an hour.
- 24:42Speaker: Just a short practice.
- 24:44Speaker: Some of these YouTubers like
- 24:46Speaker: let's do a yoga flow and I'm
- 24:48Speaker: like, yoga flow for an hour and
- 24:50Speaker: a half.
- 24:51Speaker: You trying to kill me?
- 24:53Speaker: If I haven't figured out how to be calm or less sore in an hour
- 25:00Speaker: and a half.
- 25:00Speaker: I ain't, I ain't if it if it take me that long, I'm just
- 25:04Speaker: never going to figure it out.
- 25:05Speaker: I'm sorry.
- 25:06Speaker: I can't do it.
- 25:08Speaker: And you want me to do that every day with you, lady?
- 25:11Speaker: Oh, no. But geez.
- 25:14Speaker: No, I can't do it.
- 25:17Speaker: Homegirl got a life to live and
- 25:19Speaker: I need to do something else with
- 25:21Speaker: my time.
- 25:21Speaker: I cannot be over here.
- 25:22Speaker: Yoga flowing for an hour and a half or an hour.
- 25:29Speaker: Can't do it.
- 25:31Speaker: Now, to be fair, when I go out into the world and if I want to
- 25:36Speaker: go to a yoga studio, you kind of expect to pay for an hour class.
- 25:41Speaker: But there's also lots of slow
- 25:43Speaker: moving and teacher talking, and
- 25:45Speaker: you're waiting for people to
- 25:46Speaker: come into the room and all the
- 25:48Speaker: things.
- 25:50Speaker: Do you really need?
- 25:52Speaker: Do I really need that level of
- 25:56Speaker: commitment daily just to
- 26:00Speaker: improve?
- 26:02Speaker: No. Could I benefit from that level of commitment daily?
- 26:06Speaker: Sure.
- 26:07Speaker: But I don't have to jump in right then.
- 26:10Speaker: I don't have to jump in and say,
- 26:11Speaker: well, if I can't do an hour of
- 26:14Speaker: movement, I can't do an hour at
- 26:16Speaker: the gym.
- 26:16Speaker: If I can't invest one hundred dollars, one thousand dollars,
- 26:20Speaker: Ten thousand dollars.
- 26:22Speaker: If I can't make the perfect
- 26:26Speaker: product for my business, if my
- 26:29Speaker: website isn't perfect, if my
- 26:32Speaker: website doesn't look the way I
- 26:34Speaker: need it to look, I'm not gonna
- 26:36Speaker: do it.
- 26:37Speaker: I'm not gonna do it.
- 26:39Speaker: It'll just have to wait until I can do it.
- 26:42Speaker: Perfect.
- 26:45Speaker: Do a little something.
- 26:47Speaker: Do a little something.
- 26:48Speaker: Keep doing a little something every single day.
- 26:51Speaker: It will change your life.
- 26:54Speaker: Whatever it is that.
- 26:55Speaker: That thing you want to do.
- 26:56Speaker: I'm not saying do little drugs every day.
- 26:57Speaker: Don't do that.
- 26:58Speaker: Don't do that.
- 26:59Speaker: But I like to sing.
- 27:02Speaker: I claim to be studying the piano.
- 27:05Speaker: I make it.
- 27:07Speaker: I don't miss my French practice, even if it's only the five
- 27:11Speaker: minutes on Duolingo.
- 27:12Speaker: I don't miss that.
- 27:13Speaker: Um, the Duolingo said I missed
- 27:15Speaker: it on Sunday and I questioned
- 27:16Speaker: that.
- 27:17Speaker: I questioned you very much.
- 27:18Speaker: Duolingo.
- 27:19Speaker: But aside from these whole streak freezes up.
- 27:26Speaker: For over a thousand days, I made
- 27:31Speaker: it my mission to practice French
- 27:33Speaker: every day.
- 27:38Speaker: I need to.
- 27:40Speaker: I want to figure out how can I
- 27:44Speaker: make that kind of commitment to
- 27:47Speaker: my singing, to playing piano, to
- 27:51Speaker: studying Japanese, to studying
- 27:54Speaker: Scottish Gaelic.
- 27:56Speaker: Don't ask me why.
- 27:57Speaker: I just think it's a fun language to reading to my business.
- 28:06Speaker: Just every single day, five minutes.
- 28:12Speaker: Even looking at one part of my
- 28:15Speaker: business and doing one thing
- 28:16Speaker: towards marketing.
- 28:19Speaker: or one thing to improve something about my business.
- 28:30Speaker: And, and podcast people, I apologize because I paused to
- 28:37Speaker: collect my thoughts, dramatic effects and podcast.
- 28:40Speaker: You're like, is she still talking?
- 28:42Speaker: She's still going.
- 28:43Speaker: What's happening here?
- 28:44Speaker: I was still going through my, my brain just, I had to like, I had
- 28:47Speaker: to let it sink in for myself.
- 28:50Speaker: Okay.
- 28:51Speaker: Sorry about that.
- 28:53Speaker: Um, so lo and behold, I did have a chart, a checklist chart that
- 28:59Speaker: I loved using.
- 29:01Speaker: And I did not bring that with me on this trip.
- 29:05Speaker: I was just taking up so much space in my suitcase.
- 29:07Speaker: I'm like, oh, I don't have all that space.
- 29:09Speaker: And I know that I do very well when I use that chart, I also
- 29:13Speaker: feel like I'm an adult.
- 29:14Speaker: I shouldn't have to have a chart all the time.
- 29:17Speaker: What's wrong with me?
- 29:18Speaker: I should just do it.
- 29:19Speaker: I don't have to have a child for my friends.
- 29:24Speaker: But I also know I should practice French a lot more than
- 29:28Speaker: I do five minutes of something.
- 29:30Speaker: But I used to practice French for an hour a day.
- 29:35Speaker: It's gotten harder.
- 29:37Speaker: It's gotten harder.
- 29:38Speaker: Oh, I don't know.
- 29:40Speaker: That's a lot of time.
- 29:42Speaker: Girls busy, I think.
- 29:45Speaker: Uh, no one's paying me to study
- 29:46Speaker: this French, so, you know, I
- 29:49Speaker: might want to do something else
- 29:50Speaker: right now, but I haven't
- 29:54Speaker: stopped.
- 29:55Speaker: And that's the moral of our story.
- 29:58Speaker: So what do yoga and bank accounts have in common?
- 30:03Speaker: You invest a little every day and like compound interest, you
- 30:10Speaker: will gain a little every day.
- 30:14Speaker: And at some point you will look around and be like, I've gained
- 30:17Speaker: so much, gained so much.
- 30:22Speaker: Huge amounts.
- 30:24Speaker: Maybe you win the lottery.
- 30:27Speaker: Maybe your business wins the no stress lottery.
- 30:33Speaker: Just organized and money making lottery, right?
- 30:37Speaker: Maybe you invest a little bit,
- 30:40Speaker: just a little bit into your
- 30:44Speaker: relationships.
- 30:46Speaker: Relationships with your kids, relationships with your spouse.
- 30:50Speaker: Can you imagine if every day you did without being asked, without
- 30:57Speaker: thinking about what you're going to get back?
- 31:00Speaker: Just one thing to make your spouse smile.
- 31:06Speaker: Oh my goodness.
- 31:10Speaker: How would that change your relationship?
- 31:16Speaker: It's probably a lot easier when you were dating.
- 31:18Speaker: But if you are married, were you living together?
- 31:24Speaker: How does that change your relationship?
- 31:27Speaker: Were you two are not just going through the motions, but you are
- 31:34Speaker: actively doing something just to make that other person's life a
- 31:41Speaker: little easier, a little happier.
- 31:45Speaker: It goes a long way.
- 31:48Speaker: Not about expectations, not stuck in the routine, but just
- 31:53Speaker: being active and invested.
- 31:56Speaker: I'm not saying go out and buy your kids a bunch of stuff.
- 31:59Speaker: Go out and buy your spouse a bunch of stuff.
- 32:01Speaker: You don't have to do that.
- 32:02Speaker: You don't have to do anything with money.
- 32:06Speaker: What if instead of making some big plan.
- 32:14Speaker: of this big vacation you're going to take with the kids.
- 32:18Speaker: What if instead you turned off your phone, turn off the TV?
- 32:26Speaker: And you ask your kid, hey, will you pick some music for dinner?
- 32:31Speaker: And you guys sit at the table and you eat together or.
- 32:40Speaker: And they're probably like, you.
- 32:42Speaker: You want me to pick music?
- 32:43Speaker: You want to hear my music?
- 32:45Speaker: Huh huh?
- 32:47Speaker: Or maybe no music.
- 32:50Speaker: And you ask them about their day.
- 32:57Speaker: And now you might feel like, oh, great, I've never done that.
- 33:00Speaker: My teenager.
- 33:00Speaker: Don't talk to me no more.
- 33:02Speaker: So that might be a lot.
- 33:04Speaker: So instead.
- 33:08Speaker: Have them pick some music.
- 33:10Speaker: Come help you cook.
- 33:15Speaker: They might be surprised.
- 33:17Speaker: That might be like, why?
- 33:20Speaker: But chances are you express you need them.
- 33:26Speaker: Let's pick something together.
- 33:28Speaker: Let's pick a recipe together.
- 33:33Speaker: Chances are.
- 33:36Speaker: They won't resist so much they'll get involved.
- 33:42Speaker: As much as it may seem like teenagers hate their parents.
- 33:46Speaker: A lot of times.
- 33:50Speaker: They don't.
- 33:51Speaker: They do want to be loved.
- 33:53Speaker: They're just not sure what they
- 33:55Speaker: want that expression of love to
- 33:57Speaker: look like, especially coming
- 34:00Speaker: from you.
- 34:02Speaker: Yeah.
- 34:04Speaker: So I need to go ahead and start
- 34:09Speaker: getting ready for today's
- 34:11Speaker: lessons.
- 34:13Speaker: Um, but man, I feel really good.
- 34:18Speaker: Was there a crack in that creatine?
- 34:21Speaker: Because I, I, I feel good.
- 34:26Speaker: All right.
- 34:28Speaker: There wasn't any crack in that creatine.
- 34:31Speaker: I hope not.
- 34:33Speaker: So I guess I better work on that audit stuff and then get ready
- 34:39Speaker: for my lesson.
- 34:41Speaker: I'm excited about today and I hope you are too.
- 34:44Speaker: Be excited about today.
- 34:46Speaker: You alive.
- 34:47Speaker: Be excited.
- 34:48Speaker: You made it another day.
- 34:50Speaker: It's only what, six years ago where the world was on lockdown
- 34:55Speaker: and people were wondering if they or their loved ones would
- 35:00Speaker: make it another day.
- 35:03Speaker: And some of you lost people you cared about during that time.
- 35:09Speaker: So pretty sure the ones we lost, they could speak to us.
- 35:17Speaker: They would say.
- 35:21Speaker: Cherish the time you have and enjoy it.
- 35:28Speaker: Don't waste it.
- 35:31Speaker: And if that means investing just
- 35:34Speaker: two minutes or five minutes a
- 35:36Speaker: day into doing something you
- 35:41Speaker: want to do, be better at
- 35:43Speaker: something.
- 35:43Speaker: You want to be better at learning something, having the
- 35:47Speaker: relationship you want, or just having the money in the bank
- 35:50Speaker: account that you want and do it.
- 35:55Speaker: Huh?
- 35:55Speaker: Yoga and bank accounts.
- 35:57Speaker: They have a ton in common.
- 35:59Speaker: Until next time.
- 36:01Speaker: Peace.
- 36:03Speaker: Thanks for listening.
- 36:04Speaker: If you think this podcast would help a friend, then please feel
- 36:07Speaker: free to share it with them.
