- 0:14Speaker 1: with Greg Cosell and get to ask him their tape
- 0:17Speaker 1: breakdown questions directly and they get Greg's responses. It's one
- 0:22Speaker 1: of the most popular shows we have on Patreon. You

- 0:50Speaker 2: I was going to ask you about the offensive line,
- 0:52Speaker 2: and here's something I came away from with the game
- 0:55Speaker 2: the other day. I mean, we've seen all season that
- 0:57Speaker 2: they've been essentially a block away in the run game,
- 1:00Speaker 2: and you highlighted numerous times and you could see it
- 1:02Speaker 2: clear as day that they were a block away. This
- 1:04Speaker 2: was a game where I first time where I watched
- 1:06Speaker 2: them and I just felt like they were being asked
- 1:08Speaker 2: to almost make impossible blocks. I mean, I remember like
- 1:12Speaker 2: Fred Johnson having to slant down to make a block
- 1:14Speaker 2: that I don't care if he was prime Joe Thomas,
- 1:16Speaker 2: he wasn't making the block right, yep. And it's funny are.
- 1:19Speaker 3: You seeing that? Because I do notice that sometimes, not
- 1:23Speaker 3: just with the Eagles. So I want you to understand that,
- 1:25Speaker 3: you know, because it's not just but a lot of
- 1:27Speaker 3: times when I watch running plays and I see, you know,
- 1:30Speaker 3: a second level defender essentially be unblocked and make the
- 1:34Speaker 3: play right, you know, with the line of scrimmage basically
- 1:37Speaker 3: one or two yard gain at most, I go back
- 1:39Speaker 3: and I watch the play over and over, and believe me,
- 1:41Speaker 3: I'm not going to sit here and say I'm an
- 1:42Speaker 3: offensive line guru.
- 1:43Speaker 4: I'm not.
- 1:44Speaker 3: And you know, fortunately I've been able to have been
- 1:46Speaker 3: in meetings, you know, at camps over the years, but
- 1:49Speaker 3: I'm certainly not, you know, an offensive line coach. But
- 1:51Speaker 3: I try to figure out, like, who was supposed to
- 1:54Speaker 3: block that guy, and is it a realistic block to make? Like,
- 1:58Speaker 3: for instance, if you and I know what you referring to,
- 2:00Speaker 3: If you have a tackle, okay, and let's just say
- 2:04Speaker 3: it's a left tackle for sake of discussion, and you've
- 2:06Speaker 3: got a stacked linebacker who's inside of that tackle, it's
- 2:10Speaker 3: almost impossible for him to make a block where he's
- 2:14Speaker 3: going to get to the outside or the inside. I
- 2:18Speaker 3: guess it would be of that of that stackbacker. And
- 2:20Speaker 3: if that's the block you expect him to make, he's
- 2:23Speaker 3: just he's he's out athleted right from the start. And
- 2:27Speaker 3: you know what, And again I look, I see that
- 2:28Speaker 3: with a lot of teams at times, and I just wonder,
- 2:31Speaker 3: is that am I missing something? Is that the block
- 2:33Speaker 3: they really expected him to make? Or did the offensive
- 2:36Speaker 3: line not make a call right before? You know, based
- 2:39Speaker 3: on the front. Because a lot of times, and this
- 2:42Speaker 3: I can tell you for a fact, you know, being
- 2:44Speaker 3: in these in meetings as I've been fortunate enough to
- 2:46Speaker 3: be in, there's always calls by the old line.
- 2:50Speaker 4: You know.
- 2:50Speaker 3: So let's say they call whatever the play is, it's
- 2:52Speaker 3: it's inside zone or it's what whatever it is, it
- 2:54Speaker 3: doesn't matter. And the front is different than maybe you know,
- 2:58Speaker 3: they I don't want to say the anticipated, but you know,
- 3:00Speaker 3: there's there's a number of different fronts. Fronts move and
- 3:03Speaker 3: you know, the offensive line usually the center can make
- 3:06Speaker 3: a call. So sometimes I wonder, did they just not
- 3:10Speaker 3: make the call?
- 3:10Speaker 4: Did he not?
- 3:11Speaker 3: You know, I don't know, but you're right, there's times
- 3:13Speaker 3: where I just see, you know, someone appearing to be
- 3:16Speaker 3: asked to make a block that's just not realistic based
- 3:20Speaker 3: on the front and the second level defenders and the
- 3:22Speaker 3: line or what we would call the linebacker shell.
- 3:25Speaker 2: And let me ask you this and then we can
- 3:26Speaker 2: go on. Do you think a lot of that had
- 3:27Speaker 2: to do with I just felt like the Bear's pre
- 3:30Speaker 2: snap were diagnosing where we were going with the run
- 3:33Speaker 2: very like more evidently in this game that I've seen
- 3:35Speaker 2: all season, and I felt like they were shifting and
- 3:37Speaker 2: essentially they were shifting and the play was starting and
- 3:39Speaker 2: the Eagles were already out, Like you know what I
- 3:41Speaker 2: mean that like that that being able to make that
- 3:44Speaker 2: block was just not possible due to that late shift.
- 3:46Speaker 2: And I was just saying, that's what you noticed.
- 3:49Speaker 3: I mean, that's hard to know. You know. Again, it's
- 3:51Speaker 3: always easy to say, gee, they knew what was coming,
- 3:53Speaker 3: But you know, I struggle with that. And I'll give
- 3:56Speaker 3: you an example this week the h and I don't
- 3:59Speaker 3: know if you watch this game at all, the Bills
- 4:01Speaker 3: ran for whatever number of yards. Okay, they ran basically
- 4:06Speaker 3: the same play over and over. Now not every play,
- 4:09Speaker 3: of course, you know, but they basically ran the same
- 4:12Speaker 3: play over and over Now, if they gained no yards,
- 4:15Speaker 3: and you would be a Bills fan. If that was
- 4:16Speaker 3: the Eagles doing that, you'd say, what are they doing?
- 4:18Speaker 3: They ran, They're just running the same play and it's
- 4:21Speaker 3: not working. But meanwhile, the Bills did, and you know what,
- 4:24Speaker 3: it worked, and they ran for what was a record
- 4:26Speaker 3: by an opponent at the Steelers Stadium, and you know,
- 4:30Speaker 3: the numbers were crazy. But you know, so I'm always
- 4:34Speaker 3: leary of saying that something didn't work because, oh, the
- 4:38Speaker 3: defense knew. You know, sometimes the defense knows, and you
- 4:40Speaker 3: know what, you out execute them in the run game
- 4:43Speaker 3: and you gain yards. So I'm always leary of saying that,
- 4:46Speaker 3: oh the defense knew. You know, when you're a good
- 4:48Speaker 3: running team, you know what the defense knows, and you
- 4:51Speaker 3: normally run well because you block them.
- 4:52Speaker 5: Hey, one thing that always scares me is the latest
- 4:55Speaker 5: financial scam. And with the holidays, it's all about finding
- 4:58Speaker 5: the perfect gift. But this time the year, not every
- 5:01Speaker 5: deal is actually what it seems. You've got these scammers
- 5:03Speaker 5: getting more creative to trick people into sharing their payment

- 6:04Speaker 4: It seems to me there's been a lot more lack
- 6:08Speaker 4: of communication in the back end this year. Of course,
- 6:12Speaker 4: not all the time, but many more instances where it
- 6:15Speaker 4: looks like somebody got the coverage wrong or was in
- 6:19Speaker 4: the wrong place or whatever like that. Have you seen
- 6:22Speaker 4: any of that on tape? And does this make sense
- 6:26Speaker 4: to you? Or am I just out and right field?
- 6:29Speaker 3: Well, I'd say this the Eagles, and this I know
- 6:31Speaker 3: for a fact they may make adjustments on every play
- 6:35Speaker 3: more than any team in the league. It's foundational to
- 6:38Speaker 3: a vic Fanjo defense, which is why linebackers and safeties
- 6:42Speaker 3: and his defense are absolutely critical, maybe more so than
- 6:45Speaker 3: in any defense in the league. So you started a
- 6:48Speaker 3: rookie next to Blankenship, and he was getting better and
- 6:52Speaker 3: better as the year progressed. And I thought over the
- 6:54Speaker 3: last four or five games before mccooba got hurt that
- 6:57Speaker 3: he was playing his smartest football that he's played all season.
- 7:02Speaker 3: And now you got into a situation where you're playing
- 7:04Speaker 3: Sidney Brown. And believe me, I'm not saying anything. I'm
- 7:08Speaker 3: just telling you about the tape Sidney Brown at this
- 7:11Speaker 3: moment in time, and who knows what the future holds.
- 7:14Speaker 3: I'm not one who makes these bold statements about a
- 7:16Speaker 3: guy's future when he hasn't played a lot. But right now,
- 7:19Speaker 3: Sidney Brown is not ready to do any of that.
- 7:22Speaker 3: So now you're asking Vic, So what do you have
- 7:25Speaker 3: to do as a coach. Do you still try to
- 7:28Speaker 3: do all the adjustments and put Sidney Brown in a
- 7:30Speaker 3: tough spot because he's physically and mentally not ready to
- 7:35Speaker 3: do those things, or do you have to scale back
- 7:38Speaker 3: everything you're doing, which no coach really wants to do. So,
- 7:43Speaker 3: you know, it's a tough situation for Vic Fangil and
- 7:47Speaker 3: I don't know what is the next move is Sidney
- 7:50Speaker 3: Brown is overmatched right now. I don't know if they'll
- 7:54Speaker 3: look at Michael Carter at safety who played safety in college.
- 7:58Speaker 3: I don't know if they'll think about, you know, with
- 8:00Speaker 3: an extra couple of days of practice before their next game,
- 8:05Speaker 3: which is a Monday night or so they even get
- 8:06Speaker 3: an extra day. I don't know if they'll think about
- 8:08Speaker 3: any kinds of changes, you know, Cooper de ge who knows.
- 8:12Speaker 3: We don't know the answer to that, and they're certainly
- 8:13Speaker 3: not going to make a public announcement. But this is
- 8:16Speaker 3: a defense mark that relies so much on adjustment. It's,
- 8:20Speaker 3: by the way, why johat Campbell and he didn't get
- 8:23Speaker 3: any defensive snaps this week because he struggled with that.
- 8:26Speaker 3: And you know, Dean doesn't obviously because he's very familiar
- 8:29Speaker 3: with Vick's defense having been in it, so you know
- 8:32Speaker 3: it's a difficult, difficult thing. And when you start getting
- 8:35Speaker 3: with backups who are just not able to do what
- 8:39Speaker 3: you know normally is required, it makes it hard.
- 8:42Speaker 5: Hey, it's Jeff Mosher. And if you have a family
- 8:44Speaker 5: and kids at home, like me, you always want them

- 10:02Speaker 6: So I haven't gotten to listen to your inside of tape,
- 10:04Speaker 6: but I'm sure you went over it. But there's been
- 10:06Speaker 6: a lot of discourse on the throw to DeVante Smith
- 10:09Speaker 6: on the choice route, and I just kind of wanted
- 10:12Speaker 6: to see what you thought, because I thought Kurt Warner
- 10:15Speaker 6: did a really well explanation of the of what he
- 10:18Speaker 6: saw from his eyes and how Jalen would have wanted
- 10:21Speaker 6: to go outside because it's a safer throw as opposed
- 10:24Speaker 6: to going inside. But I just wanted to see what
- 10:28Speaker 6: you saw from him on that play, from his footwork
- 10:30Speaker 6: standpoint on, from his decision, and like he's been with
- 10:34Speaker 6: Devonte since twenty twenty one, so I'm not sure.
- 10:37Speaker 3: How there's miscommunication.
- 10:39Speaker 6: You should know what he wants at that point, and
- 10:43Speaker 6: I just kind of wanted to see what you thought
- 10:45Speaker 6: on that play.
- 10:46Speaker 4: Thank you well.
- 10:46Speaker 3: I personally didn't think it's a choice route. I think
- 10:48Speaker 3: it was an inbreaker, and I think that, first of all,
- 10:52Speaker 3: Godard was irrelevant on the play, So the people who
- 10:54Speaker 3: are like you should have thrown it to God or
- 10:56Speaker 3: God it's irrelevant. It was the Bears showed a four
- 10:59Speaker 3: across quartershell and they ended up rushing six and the
- 11:04Speaker 3: linebacker Jackson was a spy on hertz On. They basically
- 11:08Speaker 3: had feign coverage. They blew the coverage because the Eagles
- 11:10Speaker 3: weren't empty and they only had a four across quarters shell.
- 11:14Speaker 5: Hey, Philly fans, game day is stressful enough. Parking, traffic,

- 12:12Speaker 5: one and up.
- 12:14Speaker 3: So what the Eagles had was they had a stack
- 12:16Speaker 3: to the left. Okay, they had So what happened is
- 12:19Speaker 3: is that DeVante Smith ran basically a quick slant underneath
- 12:25Speaker 3: I think it was aj Brown or it was underneath
- 12:28Speaker 3: Thoughts and excuse me, it was underneath thoughts In's vertical
- 12:30Speaker 3: stem and Smith was wide open. That was the throw.
